While not every thriller features a deeply surprising moment that rattles viewers, some of the very best movies in the genre are famous for their startling revelations. For instance, the publication Collider recently spotlighted a few thrillers with major curveballs by releasing a ranking of “20 thriller movies with the best plot twists.”

The list, published on August 26, featured films like 2001’s Mulholland Drive, Oldboy, released in 2003, 2019’s Parasite, and Se7en, from 1995. According to Collider, the thriller with “the best plot twist” is 1960’s Psycho, adapted from Robert Bloch‘s 1959 novel. The publication referenced that the Alfred Hitchcock film includes a very iconic twist involving Norman Bates (Anthony Perkins) and the identity of his “mother.”

Psycho, which also stars Janet Leigh and Vera Miles, holds a score of 97 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Hitchcock, who died in 1980 at the age of 80, discussed Psycho in a 1960 interview for Picture Parade. He said that Psycho was his “first attempt at a shocker.”

“In other words, it has in its content certain episodes which do shock in some sense, it could be called a horror film, but the horror only comes to you after you’ve seen it when you get home in the dark,” teased the filmmaker, who also directed The Birds (1963), Rear Window (1954), and Vertigo (1958).

He also shared that he believed audiences enjoy being scared from the safety of their theater seats.

“Audiences love to enjoy the very thing that they have built in, and that’s fear. That all started when the mother said, ‘Boo,’ but for some inexplicable reason they like to, how shall I say, put their toe in the cold water of fear to see what it’s like. That’s why they go for rides on switchbacks and scream and scream, and then get off, giggling,” said the director in the 1960 interview.

Megan then acknowledged, “I guess moving forward, it’s just, in my mind, it is what it is.”

Additionally, Bri shared, “It’s even more frustrating for you to sit here and say, ‘It is what it is,’ and take no accountability or apologize. You’re dragging my name through the mud for something that I never did. I’m being thrown under the bus. This is something you put out there that now I have to deal with. And you don’t care.”

To end the clip, Bri said, “Megan was my best friend. So yeah, this feels like a slap in the face.”

But when the country icon thought about her own funeral, she had a different song in mind—one that wasn’t hers at all.

One of the nation’s most prolific and influential gospel songwriters with more than 800 songs in his own catalog, Albert E. Brumley was famous for tunes like 1929’s “I’ll Fly Away” and 1936’s “I’ll Meet You in the Morning.” It was in 1945, however, that he wrote the country-gospel hymn that would put him directly in the spotlight more than eight decades later, courtesy of the Queen of Country Music.

According to Brumley & Sons Music, Brumley was inspired to write “If We Never Meet Again (This Side of Heaven)” after attending a singing convention in Memphis, Tennessee. A master of shape-note gospel music and deeply emotive songs rooted in church traditions, he was struck by the likelihood of never seeing the same group of people together in the same room ever again.    

“As he was returning home, he realized that group of people would likely never all be together again until they were in heaven,” Brumley & Sons Music wrote.

With lyrics that contemplate the finality of death and imagery that paints an eternal afterlife, the song has become a fitting choice for funerals, memorials, and celebrations of life. Its promise of moving beyond “this world and its strife,” where “charming roses bloom forever and where separations come no more,” offers comfort and reassurance of a heavenly reunion.

Before Parton chose the song for her final farewell, “If We Never Meet Again (This Side of Heaven)” had already passed through the hands of two of country and rock’s biggest legends. Elvis Presley recorded the hymn in 1960 for His Hand in Mine, while Johnny Cash recorded it the following year for Hymns From the Heart. Merle Haggard, Porter Wagoner, and Parton herself have also covered the song.

Beyond its appropriateness and star-studded legacy, though, this song held a deeply personal meaning for Parton. It was the favorite song of her father, Robert Lee Parton, who died in November 2000. Dolly even sang a rendition of the song at his funeral. And even though she was very aware of her association with her song “I Will Always Love You” and the high probability that it would be sung at her own funeral, she was once quoted saying she’d much rather Brumley’s song be performed.

“I’m sure they’ll be playing ‘I Will Always Love You’ when I die, just like they did with Whitney Houston,” Parton told Entertainment Weekly in 2014. “When they picked her coffin up and started in on that song, I started to cry, and I thought, ‘Oh my Lord.’ That’s when it hit me that she was really gone.”

She added, “But there’s a song called ‘If We Never Meet Again.’ It’s an old country-gospel church song that talks about if we never meet this side of heaven again, I will meet you on that beautiful shore. That was my daddy’s favorite. We did sing it at his funeral, and I would like it to be sung at mine.”

Parton’s family honored her request for a small, private funeral, with the service held Aug. 28 at Nashville’s Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum, E! News reported. Whether “If We Never Meet Again (This Side of Heaven)” was performed at the service has not been publicly confirmed, and the family has yet to announce a public memorial service.

But the song’s place in Parton’s final wishes gives it an especially poignant connection to her legacy. For a woman whose voice carried millions through heartbreak, joy, and every emotion in between, she chose a song about the promise that goodbye is never truly goodbye.

Actress Mayim Bialik, who famously played Dr. Amy Farrah Fowler on the hit CBS sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, is getting candid about not being comfortable at red carpet events.

During an August 2026 interview on The Official Big Bang Theory Podcast, Bialik, who started her career as a child actress on the ’90s series, Blossom, disclosed she didn’t feel at ease attending red carpet events for The Big Bang Theory. She explained that she had stepped away from Hollywood following the end of Blossom in 1995.

“I was out of the industry for 12 years, and when Blossom ended, that was a time in history like when you didn’t hire a $5,000 stylist to dress you. It just wasn’t like that. Like nothing was at that level. No one was wearing false lashes. Spanx didn’t exist. Like what does your body look like the best way you can hide it if you’re not a size two?” said Bialik, who joined the Big Bang Theory cast during its third season, which began airing in 2009.

She said that when she ended up attending the Emmy Awards for The Big Bang Theory, it felt “like a whole other world.”

“There’s like publicists, and like all the photo paparazzi, like, everything was much, much different,” said the actress.

In addition, she said stylists had a difficult time dressing her for award shows while she was starring in The Big Bang Theory, which had a 12-season run until 2019.

“If you’re not a size two or below, you’re very hard to dress. And I remember in those early days like, I had stylists who were like, ‘We just can’t fit a size 6. It’s just we can’t, I’m sorry. I can’t dress you.’ Like what? But that’s what it was like. So it was like a lot of like custom things because you’re maybe a 6 or an 8 and you have breasts and a butt,” said the actress, who holds a PhD in neuroscience.

She clarified that she enjoyed attending award shows alongside her Big Bang Theory castmates, which included Jim Parsons, Johnny Galecki, and Kaley Cuoco.

“When we were nominated as a cast and we got to like go together and be together, that was super fun. But when you’re by yourself, you know, it’s very, very different. It’s fun doing things as a group. It was always fun doing things as a group. Much better than being by yourself,” said Bialik during the podcast interview.

Science fiction films from the 21st century tend to be a favorite among movie enthusiasts. The publication Collider recently highlighted a few acclaimed and beloved 21st science fiction films, with a list of “the 6 best sci-fi movies released since 2000.”

The ranking, published on August 29, included science fiction films like 2014’s Ex Machina, Dune: Part Two from 2024, and 2010’s Inception. The James Cameron-directed and written film, Avatar, released in 2009, took home the title of the “best sci-fi movie released since 2000.” Collider pointed to the impact of the Oscar-nominated film’s visual effects in Pandora as a reason the movie deserved the ranking’s top spot.

Avatar holds a score of 81 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Meanwhile, its sequels, Avatar: The Way of Water (2022) and Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025), have the respective Rotten Tomatoes scores of 76 percent and 66 percent.

James Cameron Shared Behind-the-Scenes Information About the Making of ‘Avatar’

In a 2010 interview with Discovery, Cameron explained that the idea for Avatar came out of his desire to make a CGI-heavy film to help propel the visual effects company, Digital Domain, which he “was the CEO of at the time.” He said that he and the company’s co-founder, Stan Winston, had started Digital Domain “to do great CG [computer-generated] characters and creatures” in films.

Cameron also said he began penning the script for Avatar in 1995. However, he benched the project for 10 years because he and Winston soon realized there needed to be other films made that would “improve the CG” so Avatar could be exactly what he envisioned.

“Avatar couldn’t be that project because if we tried it, we wouldn’t be able to complete within the cycle of a single movie all of the stuff that we needed to do. There needed to be movies in between,” explained the filmmaker.

He then said that he eventually showed the Avatar script to Jon Landau, who produced his film Titanic (1997), in 2005. According to Cameron, Landau encouraged him to start working on the project.

“We started a process which ultimately took about two years, a little over two years, of in parallel designing everything, every creature, every plant, every tree, the floating mountains, the whole nine yards,” said Cameron. “And in parallel designing, our process for doing the performance capture now, interestingly, I didn’t have to create the 3D camera ’cause we were ready on that. We were good to go. The fusion camera was ready.”

He clarified that filming for Avatar didn’t start until 2007.

“I know to the entire world, she was a superstar, but to me, she was my Dolly Momma,” she wrote. “She was the sister who would climb into bed with me when I was little because we were both afraid of the dark. She was the woman who stepped up and became my Momma, raising me from ages 13 to 18.”

Her memories also included lighter moments. Dolly once tried to persuade Freida to wear her wigs while performing at Dollywood.

“Sorry, sister, but I definitely didn’t listen to you on that one,” Freida added.

Freida acknowledged that their bond included the same tensions many sisters experience. “Like all sisters, we definitely had our share of arguments and disagreements throughout the years, but even through all the highs and lows, and all the laughter and tears, I never stopped loving her,” she wrote.

Months before Dolly’s death, Freida had publicly requested prayers for her sister. She is now asking that support be extended to everyone mourning the loss.

What Did Dolly Parton’s Sister Ask of Fans?

“I asked you all months ago to pray for Dolly, but now I’m going to ask you to please pray for me and my entire family as we navigate this insurmountable loss,” Freida wrote.

She told fans that her sister could never be replaced and admitted that continuing without her will sometimes feel impossible.

Still, Freida plans to honor Dolly by carrying her generosity forward. “I know she would want me to keep going, keep smiling, and keep sharing the love she gave so freely with others,” she wrote. “That is what I’m going to try to do, even on the days when it feels impossible.”

Freida ended her message by revealing that she has begun work on an undisclosed project celebrating her sister. “I’m working on something very special for all of you in her honor,” she wrote. “It’s my way of keeping a little piece of my Dolly Momma with me, while sharing her with all of you who loved her, too.”

Dolly was one of 12 children born to Robert Lee Parton Sr. and Avie Lee Parton. She grew up in Tennessee alongside six brothers, Willadeene, David, Denver, Bobby, Randy and Larry, and five sisters, including Frieda, Stella, Cassie, Rachel and Floyd.

Martsolf was recently interviewed by The Soap Scene’s Erin Goldsby, during which the two discussed Martsolf’s desire for a super-couple pairing and his career, both on and off camera, including his work with The Day Players.

During the conversation, Martsolf teased a new crisis that would prompt Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) and Brady (Martsolf) to embark on an investigation. “We actually have a big storyline coming up that actually affects the whole town.”

The actor explained that Brady is in full “Scooby-Doo mode” and is excited for his character to continue following in his late father’s footsteps by working as a P.I. with Steve.

Following the real-life death of Drake Hogestyn, Brady Black has been going through a transitional period and has decided to leave the corporate world behind. Brady has now joined Steve at Black Patch (named after John Black and Steve’s nickname Patch).

No specific storyline details have been revealed at this time regarding the upcoming mystery that Brady and Steve find themselves involved in. Still, viewers can stay tuned as the story is expected to air over the coming months.

Elsewhere, Martsolf recently reflected on working with the late Hogeystyn while appearing on the Soapy Podcast. The actor revealed that while Hogeystyn was still alive, he gave Executive Producer Ken Corday his blessing to film the character of John Black’s funeral. “he’s like, ‘Tell the story. Tell the story.’ That’s a guy who is dedicated to what he’s been doing for the last 40 or 50 years. So, that’s my memory of him.”

While many Big Bang Theory fans will agree that Brian Thomas Smith was quite memorable as his character, Zack Johnson, the actor revealed that he wasn’t sure if the show’s writers would remember him.

During an August 2026 interview on The Official Big Bang Theory Podcast, Smith noted that he first appeared as Zack, a simple but sweet love interest of Penny’s (Kaley Cuoco), during the show’s season 3 finale. After filming three episodes of season 4, he didn’t return until the show’s seventh season. Zack later appeared in seasons 9, 10, 11, and 12, per IMDb.

“There was a couple seasons where they forgot about me, and I was like, ‘I think I’m done. The run’s over,'” said Smith.

He clarified he was initially just cast for the season 3 finale. However, he was given the seal of approval by the show’s creator, Chuck Lorre, while working on said episode.

“So, I always thought like, ‘God, it’d be fun if they brought Zack back.’ He’s a good mix to the [group]. I mean, it sets up Kaley for jokes ’cause she gets to make fun of how dumb I am. And she’s usually on the other end of those jokes,” said Smith during the podcast episode.

Smith then said he expected Zack to have a larger role during the show’s 12th and final season, which ended in 2019. He noted that in Season 12, Episode 12, Zack approached Penny’s husband, Dr. Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), to be a sperm donor so he and his wife, Marissa (Lindsey Kraft), could start a family. The actor said that after the episode was shot, he was congratulated by members of the crew and cast for his performance, leading him to believe there would be more Zack-focused episodes. However, after the cast came “back from the holiday break,” he received the script for Season 12, Episode 15, where it’s revealed that Leonard has decided against being Zack and Marissa’s donor.

“Then that storyline’s over and Zack says bye for the rest of the show,” said Smith.

Smith then shared that he was informed by one of the show’s writers that Lorre changed his mind about Zack being involved in the latter half of the show’s finale season.

“I talked to a writer, and they said, ‘Yeah, I think over break Chuck kind of had a different vision for the way it ended,'” said Smith.

The actor clarified that “as a fan of the show,” he was pleased with how The Big Bang Theory ended, even if his character wasn’t included.

The 2022 Amazon Prime Video science-fiction series Night Sky has earned a spot among the greatest TV shows with fewer than 20 episodes, despite lasting only one season.

The series, starring Oscar winners Sissy Spacek and J.K. Simmons, was ranked No. 9 on Collider’s list of “The 10 Greatest Shows With Fewer Than 20 Episodes.” 

Night Sky premiered on Amazon Prime Video on May 20, 2022, with all eight episodes released at once. Amazon canceled the science-fiction drama in July 2022, roughly six weeks after its debut. Despite its short run, the series continues to stand out for its unusual story, its veteran lead actors, and its mix of science fiction, family drama and mystery.

Collider described Night Sky as “a breath of fresh air in the science fiction genre.” It also praised the decision to place older characters at the center of the story, with Spacek and Simmons leading the cast as married couple Irene and Franklin York.

Created by Holden Miller for Amazon Studios and Legendary Television, Night Sky follows Irene and Franklin York, an elderly couple living in Illinois who have kept a major secret for years.

Hidden beneath their property is a chamber that leads to a viewing platform on another planet. The Yorks have discovered a way to reach the strange world but have never fully understood the portal or what lies beyond it.

Franklin says the couple has visited the chamber 856 times. For years, the portal becomes part of their quiet life together, giving them a private place away from the problems they face at home.

Their lives change when a mysterious young man named Jude suddenly appears near the portal. Jude, played by Chai Hansen, is connected to a secret group and becomes part of the Yorks’ increasingly complicated situation.

The story also moves beyond Illinois. In Argentina, Stella, played by Julieta Zylberberg, guards another portal located near a church. Her teenage daughter Toni, played by Rocío Hernández, eventually learns about the secret.

The series therefore brings together several storylines involving the York family, the portals and secret groups connected to the mysterious worlds.

At the center of it all are Spacek and Simmons. The Guardian praised their work as Irene and Franklin, noting how their performances show the history and closeness of a couple who have spent more than 50 years together.

The Guardian also pointed to the emotional side of the series. Irene and Franklin are dealing with the realities of growing older. Irene’s mobility becomes more limited after a fall, while Franklin begins experiencing memory problems. They are also dealing with the loss of their son, Michael.

The show received largely positive reviews but failed to make a major enough impact with viewers to justify the sizable production costs connected to its science-fiction elements.

Rotten Tomatoes later listed the first season with a 75% Tomatometer score based on 48 reviews and an 80% Popcornmeter score based on more than 250 audience ratings.

The series also received a 66 out of 100 score from Metacritic based on 18 critics, indicating generally favorable reviews.

Although the cancellation ended the story after one season, Night Sky had already made an unusual mark outside the episodes themselves.

In one of the biggest moments of her young career, Belle Frantz stepped onto the Grand Ole Opry stage for the first time Saturday night, Aug. 29, and used her long-awaited debut to honor one of the women who helped give her the courage to make the music she wanted to make: Dolly Parton.

Frantz paid tribute to the late country legend during the Opry’s celebration of Parton, becoming emotional after the audience gave her a standing ovation. You can watch a replay of the livestream here.

“This moment and you and this, I will never forget this for my entire life,” Frantz told the crowd in video captured by a Parade editor at the Opry. Fighting back tears, she stopped herself and admitted, “I need just one second. I’m sorry, Opry.”

Earlier in her performance, Frantz admitted that she was struggling to put the significance of her Opry debut into words.

“I’ve dreamed about this since I was a little girl,” she told the audience. “I don’t even have words for it right now, but I do have words for Miss Dolly Parton.”

Frantz then spoke about a side of Parton that particularly resonated with her: the country icon’s willingness to openly embrace her faith without imposing it on anyone else.

“Dolly was a bold person,” Frantz said. “And she was never afraid to talk about her faith and to sing the gospel. She loved the gospel so dearly.”

“She knew she could be two things at once,” Frantz continued. “She was witty and a little naughty, and she was faithful. She never shied from it. But she also never made anyone feel like they had to be faithful too.”

In Parton’s honor, Frantz performed the gospel song “Where No One Stands Alone.”

The moment carried another layer of significance for Frantz. She had been scheduled to open for Parton during the country legend’s planned Las Vegas residency last year before the shows were canceled, making Saturday’s tribute a poignant connection between a performance that never happened and Frantz’s first night on country music’s most famous stage.

The audience’s response left Frantz visibly overwhelmed, but after collecting herself, she returned to Parton and explained just how much the late singer’s example had influenced her own career.

Frantz is preparing to release her debut album Hymns From a Barstool on Nov. 6. For a young singer trying to establish herself as a country artist, making a gospel album as her first full-length project could have felt like a risk.

Parton, Frantz said, helped give her the confidence to take it.

“I’m a country artist and I’m making my debut album this year, November 6th, and it is so scary to make a debut album in general,” Frantz told the Opry crowd. “It’s even a little bit scarier for your debut album, for some people to say, to be a gospel album.”

“But I felt bold enough to do that because of Miss Dolly Parton,” she added.

Frantz also reflected on the extraordinary response to Parton’s death, telling the crowd that despite how divided people can be, “we came together as one person” to mourn her.

“She was a great example,” Frantz said.

For Frantz, gospel music isn’t separate from her country roots. It’s woven directly into them.

“I love hymns,” she said. “And I love the Lord. And that is such a big part of me and how I was raised. But I also believe that God is way more of a feeling than a building.”

That connection is at the heart of Hymns From a Barstool, which will feature collaborations with Wynonna Judd and Frantz’s longtime hero Reba McEntire.

Part of the album was recorded at Elvis Presley’s childhood church, a location that carries its own family connection for Frantz: It was also her great-grandfather’s church.

Frantz, a Greenwood Springs, Miss., native, has built her career around the traditional country music she grew up loving. After releasing her debut EP Why I Sing This Way in 2023, she went on to share stages with Willie Nelson, Alabama and Tracy Lawrence. She also co-wrote “Lonely’s What I Do” with Vince Gill, who later recorded the song.

But on the night Frantz finally realized her childhood dream of performing at the Grand Ole Opry, she kept returning to Parton.

Before performing an original song from her upcoming album, Frantz explained that she wanted to honor not only Parton’s faith, but the songwriter in her as well.

“I wrote this next song a lot about her,” Frantz told the audience.

And after a standing ovation brought Frantz to tears on the stage she’d dreamed about since childhood, Parton’s lesson about being “bold” suddenly felt less like a tribute and more like something Frantz was already putting into practice.

It’s been nearly 40 years since Full House first came to TV screens, and 10 years since the Tanner family returned in Fuller House. Although the latter ended in 2020, Candace Cameron Bure would love to see the Tanner family get one more installment.

When asked by Woman’s World what role she would like to reprise, Cameron Bure, who played DJ Tanner, said, “I would love to do the third iteration of Full House, like Fullest House or something. That would be the dream.”

While Cameron Bure didn’t elaborate on her idea for a Fullest House series, she did speak with the magazine about the significance of the original series.

“It’s been a dream to have been a part of a show that has a real, true legacy,” she said in the interview. “It’s never been off the air in over 35 years. Full House means so much to so many people. I was on the show from [age] 10 to 18, and you never know how something’s gonna go and what it’s gonna mean to people. So when I look back, I have so much appreciation.”

Cameron Bure continued, saying that she loved getting to play DJ and reprising her role in Fuller House.

“It’s just a huge, special part of my life that still lives on,” she said. “There’s always new fans and new generations that watch both of the shows, and it means a ton to me.”

On Sept. 24, Cameron Bure will step into a new role as a celebrity recruit on season 5 of Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test. Set in the jungles of Malaysia, the recruits will face military-inspired challenges, endure harsh environments and complete endurance tests.

When asked which of the Tanner sisters would be the first to agree to join Special Forces, Cameron Bure answered, “Oh, DJ would.”

“She’s kind of me,” Cameron Bure said. “She’s like a little hyper version of me, but DJ was always into physical fitness too, so she would definitely say yes.”

There was not a dry eye in the crowd as soon as Sarah McLachlan took a seat at her piano for a stirring rendition of “Angel” alongside Olivia Rodrigo.

The Gen Z pop star’s inaugural Daisy Chain Fields Music Festival took a moment to honor the pioneers who demonstrated what a woman could do in the music industry, without whom they wouldn’t be standing there today. And who better to pay tribute to than “matriarch, beautiful goddess of Country Music, the biggest philanthropist in the history of Country Music, Dolly Parton.”

McLachlan nodded powerfully to the late performer, whose legacy of good deeds through literacy for children and more has resonated in the wake of her passing, as she and Rodrigo dedicated McLachlan’s moving, timeless 1997 hit to the memory of Dolly Parton.

More than seven decades after Hank Williams recorded one of country music’s most enduring songs, “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” remains as heartbreaking today as it was in 1949.

Per Classic Country TV Journal, Williams recorded the classic on Aug. 30, 1949, during a single afternoon session at E.T. Herzog Studio in Cincinnati. The remarkable session also produced several other songs, including “My Bucket’s Got a Hole in It,” making it one of the most celebrated recording dates of his legendary career. 

Williams was only 26 years old, but the emotional depth of the song has resonated with generations of listeners ever since.

Its opening lyric has become one of the most recognizable in country music:
“Hear that lonesome whippoorwill / He sounds too blue to fly…”

A whippoorwill is a small nocturnal bird famous for its haunting nighttime call. Williams used the bird as a symbol of loneliness, suggesting it sounded so sorrowful it could barely take flight. The image immediately establishes the aching mood that has made the song one of country music’s most unforgettable ballads. 

The song’s influence only grew with time. More than 75 years after its release, a YouTube upload of “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” has topped 29 million views, with listeners calling it one of the saddest — and most beautiful — songs ever written.

Originally released as the B-side to “My Bucket’s Got a Hole in It,” “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” eventually became one of Williams’ signature recordings. It has since been covered by hundreds of artists, including Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Al Green, Little Richard, The Everly Brothers, and B.J. Thomas. 

Elvis once called it “probably the saddest song I’ve ever heard” before performing it during his landmark Aloha from Hawaii television special in 1973.
