A fatal roller-coaster incident at Six Flags Over Georgia has put the company’s Halloween plans in the spotlight.

Days after a man died on the Goliath coaster, Six Flags confirmed it will keep its Final Destination-themed maze in its Fright Fest lineup, something some say is in poor taste.

“Six Flags Magic Mountain will operate its Fright Fest programming as scheduled,” a spokesperson told TMZ on Thursday, October 15. The representative also said the maze does not contain scenes related to a theme park.

“Distasteful,” one person commented on an Instagram post sharing the news, with another agreeing, “Six flags dgaf.”

“And people still gonna ride the ride too that’s the crazier part,” another said.

Another noted, “I can just only imagine the marketing and sales have sky rocketed we are so desensitized…”

What happened at Six Flags Over Georgia?

The fatal incident happened on Monday, October 12. A 42-year-old man named Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem died after falling from Goliath, and several other guests were injured. The Cobb County Department of Emergency Communications confirmed the death, and the department’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating.

Six Flags Over Georgia addressed the tragedy in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by the guest incident at our park today. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones,” the park said.

What is Final Destination about?

For those unaware, the Final Destination horror franchise is closely associated with elaborate death scenes, including a roller-coaster disaster in Final Destination 3. That familiar premise gives the maze’s continued place in the Halloween lineup an unsettling context, even though the attraction is at a different park and, according to the spokesperson, does not depict a theme park.

As far as the incident at Six Flags Over Georgia, that remains under investigation.

More than just a Las Vegas legend, singer, actor and musician Wayne Newton turned a modest five-acre lot into a sprawling 39.5-acre private estate known as Casa de Shenandoah, one of the city’s most famous celebrity properties.

Earning the nickname “Mr. Las Vegas,” the “Daddy, Don’t You Walk So Fast” hitmaker was described by The Washington Post as “America’s number one nightclub act” and became one of the highest-grossing entertainers in Las Vegas history.

Even at the height of his fame, Newton maintained his lifelong passion for raising and breeding Arabian horses, which became a defining feature of his extraordinary estate.

In 1966, he bought the property in Paradise, Nevada, in the Las Vegas Valley, which was then undeveloped land.

A year later, the “Danke Schoen” singer turned it into a ranch where his family members, including his parents, brother and sister-in-law, also moved.

The land was also home to ten horses and several dogs.

Newton’s wife, Elaine, joined him in the main house after they married in 1968.

With his continued success, the singer and actor bought more land between 1969 and 1972, eventually expanding the estate to 39.5 acres.

Throughout the years, the property grew from a three-bedroom main home with three-and-a-half baths to a sprawling estate with seven additional houses, according to Realtor.com.

Newton’s love for horses was also reflected in his multimillion-dollar estate, which included 37 stables for his prized Arabian horses, equestrian facilities and a pool for the animals.

In addition, Casa de Shenandoah also served as a home to all sorts of animals, including penguins, wallabies, sloths, birds and several other winged creatures.

Another standout feature of Newton’s estate was its car museum, which showcased some of his prized automobiles. The property also featured a runway and a private jet terminal, allowing him to fly in and out with ease.

Other amenities included a gaming room, a green room and a tennis court.

However, in 2010, Newton and his wife sold the property for $19.5 million after facing significant financial difficulties. It was later purchased by a Texas-based development company named CSD LLC.

One of the company’s major investors and its primary owner was wealthy Texas businessman Lacy Harber, who was also a self-professed Wayne Newton fan.

At that time, one of the goals was to partner with Newton, who would retain a 20% stake, with plans to convert the estate into a public museum.

Harber, meanwhile, was expected to hold a 70% to 80% stake in the property venture.

Newton’s Casa de Shenandoah officially opened as a public museum in September 2015, becoming a Nevada tourist attraction that offered tours of the music icon’s home and showcased his memorabilia.

A few years later, Newton’s former property was sold for $5.56 million in 2019.

The sale was part of the liquidation of the bankrupt property. A separate parcel containing commercial buildings was sold to another buyer for $4.97 million.

Trader Joe’s shoppers may soon be deciding whether the grocery store’s latest beauty find deserves one spot in their routine—or two.

The new Milky Hydrating Bi-Phase Face Mist has already earned a strong first review from Instagram account @traderjoeslist, whose tester says she wants one bottle for her purse and another for her bathroom.

At $6.99, the face mist comes in two layers, so it needs a good shake before each use. The retailer describes it as a bi-phase formula, with an oil phase and a water-based phase.

Trader Joe’s is expanding

Back in June, Trader Joe’s announced plans to open nine new stores across eight states. The planned locations included Phoenix, Arizona, Sarasota, Florida, Chicago, Illinois, Quincy, Massachusetts, Farmington Hills, Michigan, Syracuse and Yonkers, New York, University Heights, Ohio, and West Jordan, Utah.

At the time, opening dates had not been announced. A company representative told PEOPLE that the nine locations were part of a larger plan to open 21 stores across 13 states over the following six months.

Steven Soderbergh is stepping in to help Matt Reeves complete The Batman Part II while the filmmaker takes a temporary break to attend to an ongoing family matter.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker will look after the remaining weeks of principal photography and will be working closely with Reeves to make sure that the much-anticipated sequel remains true to the original vision.

Soderbergh approached Reeves regarding his taking a hand in the production, per Variety. DC Studios supported the arrangement and decided to let the two filmmakers work with the cast and crew on the rest of the film. As per the statement issued by a studio representative, Soderbergh would assist Reeves in carrying out the final weeks of filming and added that both directors would collaborate in order to keep Reeves’ creative vision intact.

“As Matt Reeves continues to attend to an ongoing family matter, Steven Soderbergh, as an admirer of Matt’s work, approached Matt and will step in, with the full support of DC Studios, to help the writer-director complete the final weeks of principal photography on ‘The Batman Part 2,'” the studio said in a statement.

Soderbergh, who has directed films such as Traffic, Erin Brockovich and the Ocean’s Eleven series, also expressed his appreciation for Reeves’ work on the 2022 film and stated that his aim had been to produce footage which would mix in perfectly with the footage that had already been shot.

Talking about the development, Soderbergh said, “I thought Matt Reeves’ work on ‘The Batman’ was stunning; it was intentional, specific and rigorously coherent. The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”

However, Reeves didn’t shy away from clarifying on social media that he is “not” leaving the film and expressed gratitude towards Soderbergh for stepping in during challenging times. He wrote on X, “Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes.”

The news of Soderbergh helping Reeves comes after it was reported earlier this month that filming had been put on hold while Reeves looked after a family issue. Both Warner Bros. and DC Studios have made it clear that they are supporting the director, though they have not given any additional information about the situation.

Reeves’ comments have made it clear that he has not been replaced as director; the arrangement is meant to aid in finishing the filming while he is dealing with his family matter. The film is still scheduled for a theatrical release on February 18, 2028.

Robert Pattinson will be reprising the role of Bruce Wayne/The Batman, with the series’ regulars Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright also taking part. The new additions in the cast are Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan.

Since it was announced at CinemaCon in 2022, the sequel has taken a long time to get to production. Warner Bros. first set the release date for October 3, 2025, before changing it to October 2, 2026, then to October 1, 2027, and finally to February 2028. Reeves and Mattson Tomlin finished the script in June 2025, and filming started in London earlier this year, which is more than four years after the project was announced. The most recent delay now introduces yet another obstacle to this much-anticipated sequel.

Jimmy Carter spent decades interviewing some of the biggest names in music and Hollywood. Still, one of the most unexpected experiences he listed among his career highlights involved Elvis Presley and his famous Memphis home, Graceland.

The longtime Nashville entertainment reporter died on Oct. 13 at 73. On his personal website, Carter recalled meeting Presley twice and eventually taking a bath at Graceland.

He also worked in country radio and served as a correspondent for the nationally syndicated Crook & Chase shows.

In 1976, the Brian De Palma-directed screen adaptation of Stephen King’s now-iconic novel Carrie premiered in theaters. Fifty years later, the film is still a hit — with a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

While the original big-screen blockbuster, starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, is still highly rated, the 2026 Prime Video version isn’t as successful. With an 85% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s not exactly a flop. But the eight-episode streaming series isn’t as well received as its predecessor.

What do fans think about Prime Video’s ‘Carrie’? 

Even though the “Tomatometer” provides a pretty accurate picture of a film or TV show’s popularity, the fans always have something to say. One commenter on the Stephen King subreddit pointed out, “The series was going really well, but the ending was a huge disappointment because so many of the decisions just didn’t make sense to me.” Another added, “I don’t think it’s a disappointment, but I agree it missed the mark a bit.” 

In another post, Redditors had critical words for show creator/director Mike Flanagan, complaining that he “missed the mark on the feminine rage element here. Girls can be plenty kind and vicious and still be simmering with rage below the surface. Carrie deserved to let all that inner turmoil explode all on her own,” and, ”I don’t like Flanagan’s weird take of, ‘oh they have to be good and vicious’ to be sympathetic when book Carrie had intrusive thoughts about hurting the people who tormented her for years.”

What do critics think of 1976 and 2026 ‘Carrie’? 

Back in 1976, the original cinematic version of King’s novel didn’t have to contend with social media slams. But it wasn’t immune to critiques. That said, it did receive its fair share of praise. Roger Ebert wrote (at the time of the movie’s release), “Just let me say that Carrie is a true horror story. Not a manufactured one, made up of spare parts from old Vincent Price classics, but a real one, in which horror grows out of the characters themselves.”

Ebert wasn’t the only critic to applaud the film. The New Yorker’s Pauline Kael wrote in 1976, “Carrie is a terrifyingly lyrical thriller. The director, Brian De Palma, has mastered a teasing style — a perverse mixture of comedy and horror and tension, like that of Hitchcock or Polanski, but with a lulling sensuousness.” 

Like the ‘70s version, 2026 Carrie has gone over well with critics. Variety called it “a captivating reimagining of the oft-told story,” and The Guardian raved, “This witty, smart remake takes bullying and telekinetic violence to new extremes.”

Is local storage or cloud storage better for security cameras?

Local storage gives homeowners direct control over recorded video and avoids recurring cloud-storage fees, while cloud storage makes footage easier to access remotely and keeps recordings away from a damaged or stolen camera. The right option depends on how much video you need to retain, how often you access it and how much equipment you want to manage.

How Does Local Storage Work on Security Cameras?

Local storage saves recorded footage on a physical device inside or connected to your home security system. The simplest version is an SD card inserted directly into the camera. Larger systems can use a digital video recorder (DVR) or network video recorder (NVR).

ADT notes that some cameras use SD cards for local storage, but the available capacity depends on the card and camera settings. Once the storage fills, older footage may be overwritten or the homeowner may need to transfer recordings elsewhere.

SD Card Storage

An SD card is compact and relatively simple. It can also eliminate a separate subscription for storing footage in the cloud.

There are trade-offs:

• Storage capacity is limited by the card and camera.
• Footage can be lost if the camera or card is damaged or stolen.
• Full storage requires management, depending on how the camera handles older recordings.
• Physical access provides another privacy consideration, since someone who obtains the card may be able to access its contents.

ADT specifically warns that locally stored footage on a memory card could fall into the wrong hands and might stop recording when the card is full.

NVR Storage

An NVR is designed for larger camera systems and can provide substantially more storage than a single SD card. It can also support continuous recording across several cameras.

For example, ADT’s Streaming Video Recorder has 1TB of storage, supports up to eight cameras and can continuously record footage for up to 30 days, although actual retention varies with the number of cameras and recording resolution. Older footage is automatically deleted when the hard drive fills.

An NVR, therefore, makes more sense for homeowners who want continuous recording from multiple cameras without relying entirely on cloud storage.

What Are the Advantages of Cloud Storage for Security Cameras?

Cloud storage sends recorded footage to remote servers operated by the security-camera provider. That changes how homeowners access and protect their recordings.

Cloud storage is especially useful when remote access is important. ADT says cloud-based systems allow homeowners to access recorded footage through an app or website, while cloud storage also keeps recordings available if a camera is damaged.

Remote Access

With cloud storage, you can typically sign into your security app from another location and review recorded clips. This is useful when you’re away from home and need to check an event immediately.

Local storage can also support remote viewing, but the exact setup depends on the camera, recorder and network configuration.

Protection From Physical Damage

A recording stored inside a camera could disappear with the camera. An NVR inside the home has similar physical risks if the equipment is stolen or damaged.

Cloud storage separates the recording from the camera itself. ADT’s business video-surveillance guidance describes cloud storage as off-site storage that can protect video data from damage or destruction.

The Privacy Trade-Off

Cloud storage isn’t automatically more private or less private than local storage. It changes who has responsibility for securing the data.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) identifies cybersecurity, data security and privacy as important considerations for internet-connected devices, including devices that send information to cloud services. Its guidance recommends considering how data is protected both on devices and in remote storage.
