Since releasing her first record, 1978's The Kick Inside, months before turning 20, Kate Bushfans have appreciated her ability to make unique chart-topping songs. One of the more popular tracks of The Kick Inside is "The Man with the Child in His Eyes." According to American Songwriter, Bush penned "The Man with the Child in His Eyes" six years before the album was released. The publication also reported that she took the song to the recording studio three years after writing it.

American Songwriter reported that Bush's ex-boyfriend, television personality, Steve Blacknell, said he was the subject of the tune while speaking to the Daily Mail in 2010.

"I thought 'Oh my God'. What I heard made my soul stand on end. I realised there and then that I was in love with a genius," said Blacknell during the Daily Mail interview, as reported by American Songwriter. "As things hotted up for her, so our relationship cooled and we drifted apart. But I've been told by those around her that I was indeed 'The Man With the Child in His Eyes' and I know that those words were given to me by someone very special."

According to Kate Bush Encyclopedia, Bush said she came up with the tune, which secured the No. 85 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 during the month of March 1979, to express a theory she held during a 1979 interview promoting The Kick Inside.

"The inspiration for ‘The Man With the Child in His Eyes’ was really just a particular thing that happened when I went to the piano. The piano just started speaking to me. It was a theory that I had had for a while that I just observed in most of the men that I know: the fact that they just are little boys inside and how wonderful it is that they manage to retain this magic," said Bush in the 1979 interview.

Bush discussed the making of The Kick Inside, specifically its title track in a 2011 interview with Interview magazine. She said that she believed "some of those early songs are quite dramatic really—melodramatic almost" because of her youth.

"I think that’s quite often something that goes hand-in-hand with youth. I was always trying to look for something a little bit different I suppose," said Bush in the 2011 interview.

Toy Story 5 opened in theaters back June 19 with a record opening of $160 million and is looking to gross over $800 million worldwide. Even so, many will likely wait for it to come to streaming to catch it again or for the first time. The franchise that features the voices of Tom Hanksand Tim Allen as toys Woody and Buzz Lightyear, respectively, has grossed over $3.3 billion across the five films so far.

While we're not speaking for everyone, many of us are prone to interrupting during a conversation. Cutting someone off when they're speaking is a normal—albeit frustrating—part of society, and a lot of people don’t even know when they're doing it. And this habit is not just limited to adults. Whether your child or grandchild does it frequently, or if you remember from your own childhood, you probably know that kids tend to interrupt conversations between grownups quite a bit. And for a variety of reasons (hint: they're not just outspoken).

“Frequent interrupting is often seen when there is some level of executive functioning challenge, particularly in what we call inhibition,” Dr. Cari Alvarez, Ph.D., tells Parade. “Inhibition is our ability to resist our impulses (for example, the urge to speak out of turn). Executive function, and inhibition in particular, are part of the frontal lobe, which is one of the last parts of the brain to develop, meaning it is expected for younger children to struggle more and for them to get better with age and with adult support and guidance.”

Dr. Alvarez—who is a licensed psychologist specializing in neuropsychological evaluations for kids and giving practical support to parents—adds that it’s common to see a higher degree of impulsivity into late adolescence through early adulthood, since that is the timeline for our brains to fully mature.

As she says, “interrupting can be developmentally appropriate,” and it only becomes a point of concern if its frequency is out of proportion or if it is impacting the child's social relationships (others are annoyed by them or comment on the behavior).

What Do These Frequent Interruptions Mean?

According to Dr. Alvarez, it all comes down to a simple principle: children love and need adult attention. But a kid who is constantly interrupting could be communicating that their brain is working differently, or that they need to meaningfully connect with you.

“Neurodevelopmental conditions such as ADHD greatly impact executive function and, in fMRI studies, have been shown to result in slower cortical maturation, meaning a child with ADHD might have executive functioning abilities that are two to four years behind their peers,” she explains.

She says that "this is worth noting," along with a few other issues:

• "If your child's interrupting is tied to a broader pattern of difficulty resisting impulses," she states.
• Acting without thinking.
• Not measuring consequences.
• The "behavior seems beyond what peers their age experience, or they seem ‘immature for their age,'" she shares.

If those seem to describe the behavior you're seeing, she suggests discussing it "with a qualified provider, such as a clinical psychologist or developmental pediatrician."

7 Reasons Why Children Interrupt Conversations Constantly, a Child Psychologist Says

Here are some of the most common reasons that kids interrupt, according to a psychologist.

1. They’re suffering from executive dysfunction 

As mentioned, the child might be dealing with executive dysfunction due to a variety of causes. If you suspect that this might be the root of the frequent interruptions, Dr. Alvarez recommends consulting with a professional to obtain a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation.

2. They want to feel heard

At the end of the day, your child or grandchild might just want to feel heard by you. For this, Dr. Alvarez says that you should set aside time each day (preferably at a predictable time) where you practice active listening with them—that means no phones or distractions.

3. They feel disconnected from you

On a similar note, another need your kid might be expressing is the desire to feel connected with you.

“They feel disconnected from you and are trying to find ways to connect,” Dr. Alvarez states. “Dedicate five to 10 minutes a day to playing with them, focused on what they are doing, reflecting on what they say and not giving them any directions, commands or bombarding them with questions. Instead, let them lead the conversation.”

4. They may be responding to “overparenting”

There’s a chance that, as Dr. Alvarez says, you may have fallen into something called “an overparenting dynamic” where you are always available to the child, so they expect constant, undivided attention. 

“Enforce a waiting period,” she advises.

To enforce this, she suggests saying something like, “I am busy right now. I will find you in three minutes."

5. They’re lacking structure

“There isn't a structured time for them to voice their concerns and questions, so they feel they will never get the chance unless they interrupt,” Dr. Alvarez observes as another need. “Institute a ‘family meeting’ where they are part of the decision-making process.”

6. They’re modeling after adults

The child might be mirroring what they’re seeing around them, and they might be modeling the interrupting that they’re witnessing. 

“Children are constantly absorbing our actions, and they mimic how we, as their grown-ups, move through the world,” Dr. Alvarez explains. “If the adults around them struggle with interrupting, them doing the same could be learned behavior."

So how do you go about addressing this need?

"Take note of your own conversation style—do you interrupt other adults or the child themselves?" the psychologist shares. "Be mindful of your behavior and pause while someone else is speaking, as you intentionally listen to the message rather than preparing a rebuttal. Challenge yourself to wait three seconds before jumping in with your thoughts.” 

7. They’re anxious

Since anxiety can make things feel urgent, Dr. Alvarez says that for adults and children alike, our brains try to protect us by creating the worst-case scenario. 

“If a child is in this headspace, it might appear ‘life or death’ for their parents to hear them,” she states. “If parents have a habit of solving all problems immediately for the child, this can intensify interrupting, because they ‘need’ the parent, since they have learned they can't do things on their own without the parent doing the heavy lifting.”

What To Do When a Child Interrupts

As a parent or grandparent, when a child interrupts a conversation, Dr. Alvarez suggests that you can validate that the child has something to share, provide a waiting period and let the child know you want to hear what they have to say. 

She advises saying something like, “You want to tell me something/share something, too. Mommy is busy right now. I will come find you in three minutes when I can give you my full attention.” Or you can begin the same way and say, “Mommy and Daddy are speaking right now. We'll make space for you to share in a minute.”

Kids need a lot of guidance, and their parents and/or grandparents are their first teachers in manners, life skills and communication. Knowing how to proceed with your children is always a good first step.

As the oldest of four singing sisters, she helped guide a family act into one of disco's most joyful and enduring success stories.

Debbie Sledge, the singer and founding member of Sister Sledge, turns 72 on July 9. As one of the original voices behind the legendary family group, Sledge helped carry some of the most recognizable sounds of the disco era into pop culture history.

Sister Sledge formed in Philadelphia with sisters Debbie, Joni, Kim and Kathy Sledge. The group began performing as children and eventually became one of the defining vocal groups of the 1970s, blending disco, R&B, soul and pop into a sound that was polished, joyful and unmistakably family-rooted.

Their biggest breakthrough came with the 1979 album We Are Family, created with Chic members Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards. The album produced several of the group's signature songs, including "He's the Greatest Dancer," "Lost in Music," "Thinking of You" and the title track that became not only one of their biggest hits, but one of the genre's most unforgettable.

"We Are Family" became far more than a disco hit. The song reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and eventually became a staple at weddings, sporting events, political gatherings and celebrations across generations. In 2017, it was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress for its cultural, historical or artistic significance.

Sledge later said the group survived its long climb because of the support around them and the faith she carried from childhood. "As a family we've been through an awful lot," she told Talented Ladies Club. She added that her faith gave her strength through the early years and everything that followed, saying, "I believe that there is nothing you can't accomplish as long as you choose love."

The success of Sister Sledge gave Debbie Sledge a permanent place in 1970s music history, but her career did not end with the height of the disco era. She has continued performing and now leads Sister Sledge featuring Sledgendary, a newer family-centered version of the group that includes younger members of the Sledge family.

According to her official biography, Sledge remains active as a vocalist, recording artist, principal member and vocal director, continuing to bring the group's music to audiences decades after its original rise. In 2022, Sister Sledge featuring Sledgendary released "FREE," marking their first release as a collective in almost 20 years.

As she turns 72, Sledge's legacy remains tied to one of the most beloved songs of the 1970s, but it also expands far beyond a single hit. Through Sister Sledge, she helped create music that continues to fill dance floors, soundtrack family moments and remind listeners why the group's name still carries so much meaning.

In July 1968, Simon & Garfunkel weren’t just dominating the charts; they owned them.

After their legendary soundtrack to The Graduatespent seven weeks at No. 1, the folk-rock duo followed it with Bookends in May, creating a rare musical showdown that kept two of their biggest albums battling atop the Billboard 200 for a staggering 16 weeks.

The story behind one of the most unforgettable runs in music history began 15 years earlier, when Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel first met as grade schoolers. The future legends were cast in their sixth-grade graduation production ofAlice in Wonderland, with Garfunkel playing the Cheshire Cat and Simon taking on the role of the White Rabbit.

Bonding over their love for rock and roll, the two friends formed a partnership that would quietly—then loudly—change the course of music forever.

By their early teens, Simon and Garfunkel were performing under the band name Tom & Jerry—”Arty was the most famous singer in the neighborhood,” Simon told NPR in a 2004 interview. Their first song, “That Girl for Me,” became a “hit” with their friends and family, and two years later, they broke out of small-time Queens, New York, and into American Bandstand.

“We were discouraged from having written our own tunes for a couple of years and not being lucky enough to get on the radio, which was our goal,” Garfunkel explained of the duo's early days, just before their big break, in the same joint interview. “We thought, 'We have this one last song, ‘Hey Schoolgirl.’ … We went to the demo studio and paid $7 for an hour of recording … it was our swan song.”

The singer-songwriter thought they’d record the song and, at the very least, have a fun memory to look back on. But fate had other ideas: Music promoter Sid Prosen, who was in earshot, heard them, liked them, and signed them to Big Records. “Hey Schoolgirl” then reached No. 49 on the Billboard Hot 100, sold more than 100,000 copies, and earned them a spot on the music-and-dance television show.

In 1963, the two regrouped as Simon & Garfunkel. Recognizing the public’s growing interest in folk music, the pair signed with Columbia Records and began laying the foundation for their signature sound. Despite some setbacks, an electric remix of their 1964 song "Sound of Silence" hit No. 1 on the charts and turned the duo into superstars.

Their cultural footprint grew even bigger after their songs were featured in Mike Nichols’ The Graduate, which included the mega-hit “Mrs. Robinson.” By 1970, with the release of their final studio album, Bridge Over Troubled Water, Simon & Garfunkel became one of the best-selling acts in the highest tier of global music.

“What a song,” Garfunkel said of “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” with Simon adding, “I was playing my guitar alone one night … and all of a sudden I sang that. I couldn't believe it. I was dumbstruck. I have no idea where that came from. It was a gift. And I was just emotionally very moved by it.”

Today, the two continue to perform separately, decades after their childhood friendship changed music forever. Garfunkel recently surprised fans by joining pop star Charlie Puthonstage at Madison Square Garden, and Simon’s performances continue to move fans around the world.

And to think, one of the greatest partnerships in music history began not in a recording studio, but on the set of a stage play—it’s the kind of story that sounds almost too perfect to be true. Like a fairy tale.

It's official: Rick Devens will be entering the Big Brother house. And Angela Murray will be re-entering it.

While 14 of Big Brother 28's houseguests were announced on July 7, a press release from CBS confirmed that additional players would possibly be revealed in the season premiere. That tune has properly changed, however, as the network has officially unveiled that both the two-time Survivor player and the Big Brother 26 star will be joining the fray this season. It's assumed they'll both show up at some point in tonight's premiere, though details of said entrance are currently a mystery.

Hours after the Big Brother 28 cast was announced, Entertainment Weekly came in with quite the headline, which is only proper for a former newscaster. The outlet revealed that allegedly two-time Survivor player Rick Devens will be entering the game and playing as a full-fledged houseguest. Devens was arguably the biggest star of his reality TV debut in Season 38, Edge of Extinction, ultimately going out in fourth place. He returned to the game more than a half-decade later on Survivor 50, where he placed in seventh after yet another standout performance. If hiding fake idols and flipping a do-or-die MrBeast coin is any indication, Devens is ready to create some shenanigans inside the house!

Describe yourself in 3 words: Fun, chaotic, and loyal.
What made you want to spend your summer in the Big Brother house? I wanted to spend my summer in the Big Brother house because it's the next great adventure, and I love an adventure!
How do you think Survivor has prepared you for Big Brother? On that island, you're dealing with some big personalities, you're trying to figure out how things work, and you're causing a little bit of chaos. And I think those are things that are going to transfer well into the house.
What aspects of Big Brother do you think will be harder than Survivor? I think the main thing that's going to be harder on Big Brother than Survivor is the pace. You're in here for such a long time. I really like to get going, and I'm really going to have to slow myself down just a little bit. Also, being away from my young kids is going to be really tough. It was tough out there on the island for 26 days. Now I'm going to be here all summer, hopefully!
What's one Survivor skill that you think will translate to the Big Brother house? I think fire making is something that's...oh, wait, no. [Laughs.] Probably relationships with people. Understanding how to bounce back when a relationship goes bad, not take it too personally, but be able to get right back on that horse and let them know we didn't vote together this time, but that doesn't mean we can't vote together next time.
What would you anticipate being scarier: Tribal Council or being on the block? think being on the block is going to be scarier than Tribal Council, because Tribal Council is where I do some of my best business. Whereas being on the block, you know you're one of two people that has a chance of going home. It's not everybody that could be going home, it's just you and that one other person.
What do you think is your reputation coming into Big Brother? I think the reputation I developed in Survivor is that I can be a chaotic player, and then I can make it hard for other people to play the game they want to play. They have to spend too much time reacting to me. So I need to kind of give the impression, whether it's true or not, that, "No, I'm easy to play around! You don't have to worry about me."
Who from your previous Survivor seasons do you think would thrive in the Big Brother house? I think that Christian Hubicki and Rizo [Velovic] — R-I-Z-G-O-D, RizGod — baby, would both thrive in the Big Brother house. They both have such social games. I think Christian would crush the challenges. Rizo doesn't really do challenges. I think Ozzy would be in misery because that dude needs to be outdoors. That guy needs to be catching fish, he needs to be swimming, making fire. And as far as I know, you can't do any of that in the Big Brother house. I think people would get upset if he tried to cook one of the fish that's in the Big Brother house.
What's your strategy going into the house? I do have a strategy coming into the Big Brother house. I have some things that I like to think of as my equivalent to planting a fake idol at Tribal Council that I'm looking forward to bring it into the house. And I just think that letting people know that when I find my group I'm super loyal is going to be a big thing to me, even though it might not be true this time around. We'll have to see how it goes!

After much speculation among Big Brother fans of the possibility of returning players, Men's Journalconfirmed that indeed, a previous houseguest will be walking back through the door. Angela Murray immediately made a name for herself two years ago, becoming the first HoH on Big Brother 26, where she went on an iconic rant against Matt Hardeman. After that, she was labeled a house pariah, nominated a whopping seven times. But she was also involved in some of the most chaotic moments of the season, including the veto being used on her thrice. After taking a brief stopover to Europe on The Amazing Race 38 with her daughter Lexi Murray, Angela is ready to take another bite of Big Brother like a fresh charcuterie plate.

What have you been up to since we last saw you in the house? What haven't I been up to? I have been traveling. Very exciting for me, because I went on my first cruise. I got to go to New York. I went through Europe. I was on The Amazing Race, so that was super cool. And just loving life, loving my family. So many opportunities I've been afforded since being on Big Brother and The Amazing Race.
How did being on The Amazing Race prepare you for Big Brother again? I have to tell you, it was very unexpected to be asked back. Very unexpected, super exciting. Honestly, I feel like Big Brother is more of a marathon, where Amazing Race is just that: It is a race for your life. Here, Big Brother, you can just chill just a little bit, and maybe now I won't be so anxious and paranoid. Who am I fooling? Yes, I'm gonna be paranoid! Yes, I'm gonna be anxious! I'm just gonna wear my heart on my sleeve, like I always do.
Why did you feel like now was the time to come back on Big Brother? I definitely feel like there's unfinished business in the Big Brother house. I felt it in my core that I could win, and had I just made a few slight adjustments there at the end, I very well could have been one of the Final Three. So, this time around, I have a little bit of a strategy going in that I hope I can pivot where I need to. And now that I've been through it, I feel like I can see and recognize things that you know that I should be aware of more. I have a plan, I think, somewhere in my head of what I'm gonna do. But you know me! I wear my heart on my sleeve, I tell it like it is. I really just don't have a filter, so I'm going to have to really bite my tongue a little bit more. Maybe, but probably not.
What was the biggest mistake you made on your first season? The biggest mistake I probably made was not aligning myself with Chelsiea. I should have conveyed to her that I was less of a threat and wanted her to be there and wanted to see her, Cam and Makensy and solidify something with them. I wish I had done that, and kind of seen more clearly what was going to happen now. Looking back, I can clearly see the way that the events happened, and a pivotal point where I could have really ensured my stay.
What can we expect from a second season of Angela Murray? I think fans can expect to have the same old Angela. I don't know how to be anybody but me. I'm 52 years old, and I've come this far, and I just feel like you're just gonna get the same. I can tell you all day long I've got strategy, which I do. But it always changes. Things change in life, and you just have to roll with it. I roll with my emotions. I'm a very emotional type of girl; Big Brother brings that out in you. And so you'll probably just get the same old Angela. Sorry!

Everyone loves a birthday bash, and Mohegan Sun is making sure its upcoming milestone anniversary receives the fanfare it deserves with its completely star-studded 30th Birthday Celebration. The unique Connecticut-based casino resort and entertainment venue first opened on Oct. 12, 1996, and this October, two weekends of performances will bring some of the most celebrated names in the music industry to the Mohegan Sun Arena.

Among the names on this all-star list is '90s music icon and rock legend Alanis Morissette, whose fan-favorite 1995 studio album Jagged Little Pill went on to sell more than 30 million copies worldwide. In fact, this album was so successful that it ultimately inspired a Broadway show of the same name, which in turn won Grammy and Tony awards.

Morissette will perform at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Friday, Oct. 2, kicking off this two-weekend concert run celebrating three decades of events and history at Mohegan Sun. That Sunday, Oct. 4, the Foo Fighters will round out the first weekend of the 30th Birthday Celebration with their concert, and the next weekend will also comprise performances from some major names.

On Friday, Oct. 9, John Mayer will be performing, followed by Lainey Wilson on Saturday, Oct. 10. The final day of this massive celebration will include DJ Cassidy'sPass The Mic Live! concert experience, featuring Busta Rhymes, Fat Joe, Ja Rule, Jadakiss and Nelly.

If that wasn't exciting enough, Mohegan Sun has already teased that, in the months leading up to this celebration, even more anniversary events and surprises will be announced. What exactly that will entail remains unknown for now, but with how much anticipation will be built up around the two weekends of performances alone, fans of these music legends shouldn't wait.

Tickets for the first weekend of concerts, including Alanis Morissette and the Foo Fighters, will go on sale on Friday, July 10, and tickets for the second weekend, comprising performances by John Mayer and Lainey Wilson, as well as the Pass The Mic Live! show, will become available starting on July 17. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster or at Mohegan Sun’s box office.

Japanese musician and songwriter Haruomi Hosono is celebrating his 79th birthday.

Hosono, who is also sometimes credited as Harry Hosono, is considered to be one of the most influential musicians in Japanese rock and pop music history. The producer is credited with shaping the sound of Japanese indie pop for decades, inspiring the sub-genres of city pop and Shibuya-kei.

The grandson of Titanic survivor Masabumi Hosono, the only Japanese passenger on the ship, began his career with the psychedelic rock band Apryl Fool in 1969 before the group disbanded three years later. In 1973, his first solo album, Hosono House, was released, and he has since been associated with the EDM genre throughout that decade.

In 1978, Hosono, Yukihiro Takahashi and Ryuichi Sakamoto created the Yellow Magic Orchestra (YMO) in Tokyo. The trio became pioneers in popular electronic music, thanks to their use of synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, drum machines, computers and digital recording technology. Even to this day, the group is considered one of the most influential and innovative musicians in the genre of EDM and pop music.

The release of their debut self-titled album made them national and international superstars, making them one of the most popular groups in the 1980s. In a lecture with Red Bull Music Academy back in 2014, Hosono spoke about his career and the inspirations behind his most popular songs.

"The '80s was really a period when great changes occurred in terms of making music. This was because the equipment quickly evolved," he explained. "When I made [Philharmony], a musical sampler called the Emulator was released, and I bought one even though it was expensive. I was really excited. Sampling was an important concept at the time."

The EDM trio released eight studio albums from 1978 to 1993. Over the past 50+ years, YMO had broken up three times, calling it quits for good in 2012, but had multiple brief reunions before Takahashi and Sakamoto both passed away in 2023. Hosono is the only surviving member of YMO.

What is Haruomi Hosono Doing Now?

Though Yellow Magic Orchestra ended more than a decade ago, Hosono is still very active in the industry and still releasing new music. His 23rd studio album, Yours Sincerely, is set to be released on streaming platforms on Sept 11 via the record label Echoes. His more recent music spans a vast blend of the folk, indie rock, EDM and avant-pop genres.

"It started with a simple question: how do you express the Japanese ideas of omoiyari (思い遣り), jihi (慈悲), or boseiai (母性愛) in English? I searched, but no word felt quite right. Each came close, yet carried a slightly different nuance. Perhaps the nearest was ‘compassion.’ It is often translated as ‘omoiyari’ in Japanese, but its original meaning is ‘to suffer together.’ It tends to carry a sense of sympathy or pity—something that feels distinct from the Japanese sense of omoiyari. In Japanese, omoiyari also includes the feeling of ‘rejoicing together.’ In that sense, it may even seem like the opposite," Hosono wrote in an Instagram caption announcing the new project on May 18. "The perspective, the emotional angle—subtly but fundamentally different. For that reason, I chose not to use ‘compassion.’ Instead, I turned to a more familiar word often used to close a letter: ‘Sincerely.'"

The lead single from Yours Sincerely, titled "Note of Mothership," was released on his birthday. In addition, Hosono is also set to embark on The Yours Sincerely Tour to support his first album in seven years, where he will perform a show in New York City's Radio City Music Hall on Sept. 16 and another on Sept 20 in Los Angeles at the Greek Theater.

"This is the first piece of the music from the album and we are truly happy to share this with you," Hosono wrote on Tuesday in an official announcement posted to Instagram. "We wish to celebrate the record with every one of you. We hope you enjoy this one."

Over the years of my Bob Dylan fandom, I haven't had very many hot takes. My favorite albums of his are celebrated classics, my favorite songs are considered masterworks, and I generally enjoy the same live performances as most Dylan fans. The key place I deviate from the rest of the fandom is that I think "Self Portrait" is a really great Bob Dylan record.

For a songwriter so beloved and respected, I can understand how an album featuring a ton of covers could be really off-putting for a lot of people. The album comes at a strange time in his discography where he was going through the growing pains of reinvention. When people think '70s Dylan they think of "Blood on the Tracks" and "Desire." These are both albums that see Dylan refracting himself and the world around him through a poetic looking glass. It's a decade of great reflection for him, both internally and externally. All of that started on "Self Portrait."

The Album That Gets Dylan the Best

Many people deride the structure, performances, and lack of original material on the record. To me however, I see it as Dylan trying to discover what he's all about by charting his musical history. I see the "Self Portrait" as an almost ethnographic work, charting the anthropological history of the music and the country that made Dylan who he is.

The album sees Dylan with some originals steeped in Americana, such as "Alberta," a song that models itself after classic American love songs. The piece bookends the album with two different versions, one a more mellow soft rock take, and the other a larger country style arrangement. The way Dylan takes this same song and creates two different stylistic profiles with it suggests a sense of universality to his music. Almost as if he's an avatar for some greater American truth or understanding.

The covers side of the record follows this idea, pulling from country, blues, folk, and contemporary songwriting, Dylan charts a history of the American songbook, all the way from traditional songs with no author in memory, to himself and his contemporaries, including covers of Paul Simon and Gordon Lightfoot.

This all really gets to the bottom of what I think it takes to understand Bob Dylan. His art and his music are a tapestry of the American culture. He embodies all parts, eras, and ideas of this nation. There's perhaps no artist that embodies the art and history of this nation better.

I always compare this album to the Todd Haynes film I'm Not There, a "biopic" that tells the story of Dylan's life with seven different actors across different periods and personas of his life. Using Dylan, he tells the story of America, and within that story is the best portrayal of Dylan I've seen in anything outside of his own music.

The American songbook is a self portrait for Dylan. It is a place and a collection of music that made him who he is in, and in return he understood and depicted the culture of America better than anyone ever has and maybe ever will.

Iconic '80s rock band U2 has released the lead single for their upcoming album. The exciting news was shared on Tuesday via Instagram, surprising longtime fans.

The new single, titled "Street of Dreams" is the official lead single for the band's highly anticipated 15th studio album. The upcoming, currently untitled project marks the band's first all-new full-length work in nine years since the release of Songs of Experience in 2017.

Accompanying the single's release is a music video directed by Pasqual Gutiérrez and Raúl "RJ" Sanchez of the directing duo Cliqua. The four-minute and 39-second video was filmed inside and on top of a transit bus as it traveled around Mexico City. The video captures raw reactions from fans and U2's passionate performance—perfectly complementing the song's uplifting themes through a visual lens.

"Street of Dreams" arrives amid U2's 50th anniversary celebration. The group was formed in 1976 in Dublin, Ireland by 14-year-old drummer Larry Mullen Jr. who recruited the rest of the original lineup by posting a note on his high school's bulletin board.

Since their debut album in 1980, the band members have experienced massive commercial success, scoring two No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and earning 16 Platinum or Multi-Platinum certifications from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

In the comments section of the announcement post, the fanbase expressed overwhelming enthusiasm for the new track.

Per MLB, Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlanderwrote a personal letter to his fans, teammates, coaches, fellow players, and clubhouse colleagues and posted on his official X account.

But baseball's favorite star couple is being cast back in the spotlight as he, of course, thanked his wife for standing by him through the years as she had previously been quoted as saying she had no idea what she was signing up for by marrying a pro athlete.

Upton said in 2024, "I accidentally fell in love. I had no idea. There's how many games? I was like, 'Wait, I thought this was a cute summer thing."

Hitched back in 2017, Upton has made plenty of public appearances cheering on her husband during his stints in New York (Mets), Houston, San Francisco, and back where it all began as Verlander is set to cap off his career in Detroit, where his legendary MLB journey first kicked off.

Verlander's letter read, "To my family, especially my wife Kate, thank you for standing beside me through every season, every rehab and every high and low. I couldn't have done this without you".

Not many athletes remain on the big stage well into their 40s.

Verlander may be having a full-circle moment by retiring with the Tigers, the team that drafted the lanky right-hander in 2004, but he hasn't been shy about why he's kept playing this long.

Prior to the 2026 season, he sounded more determined than ever. According to Forbes, Verlander said, "I want to be successful as long as I can and if that leads me to 300, it leads me to 300. I’ve never really set personal goals like that, but of the things I can accomplish that’s probably the last thing I can. Obviously, I would like to do it".

While MLB starting pitchers have seen their workloads dramatically reduced from the heyday of Nolan Ryan, Gaylord Perry and others in the 300-win club, Verlander will certainly fall short of the elusive milestone and may be among the last to seriously chase it in an era defined by pitch counts and heavy bullpen usage.

Few stories have connected generations like The Little House on the Prairie. 

It all began with the semi-autobiographical book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The first book came out in 1932, while the ninth and final was published in 1971. Not long after, the Western TV series premiered in 1974 and ran for 9 seasons.

Now, Netflix is remaking the show, with Laura Ingalls being portrayed by Alice Halsey. 

“I think it’s a huge privilege to be able to play this amazing character,” the actress told People in a recent interview. “She’s been an icon across generations and I feel so honored that I get to play this character and be shown on-screen as Laura Ingalls.”

Halsey shared that she does feel the “pressure” surrounding such an iconic role. She knows how important Wilder’s book series and MelissaGilbert's portrayal of Laura are to Little House on the Prairie fans. 

“I felt a lot of responsibility to Laura and the writers and [showrunner] Rebecca [Sonnenshine] to do it right. I knew that I had to honor her legacy and her story because she really was an amazing woman, a storyteller, a writer and a hard worker,” Halsey said. “So I felt a lot of pressure, but I think I was surrounded by amazing castmates and I’m just so glad that I could do it with them.”

Adding, “I think my favorite part might have been being able to just figure out who she is because she definitely has a lot of sides to her.”

The Netflix original will also include performances by LukeBracey as CharlesIngalls, CrosbyFitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls, and SkywalkerHughes as MaryIngalls. 

Halsey is excited for Little House on the Prairieto hit the streamer. She knows it will resonate with fans across generations. 

“Little House, I think, is a story about growth and hope and family and community,” she explained. “And it really is just... I think that I just hope that everybody enjoys it as much as I love making it. I think that the Little House stories are really beloved to so many people and I hope that they’ll love our show too.” 

The first season of Little House on the Prairie is now on Netflix.

Beloved children's singer Raffi celebrated his 78th birthday on Wednesday.

The renowned musician and performer, whose real last name is Cavoukian, was once referred to as "the most popular children's singer in the English-speaking world" by the Washington Post. He skyrocketed to fame in the late '70s and '80s thanks to iconic tunes like "Baby Beluga," "Down by the Bay," and "Bananaphone," and toured the country, enchanting families as he performed with the Rise And Shine Band. He's also the founder of the Centre for Child Honouring, a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to advancing Child Honouring as a universal ethic and an organizing principle for societal transformation.

50 years after kicking off his career as a children's entertainer, Raffi is still thriving.

In a post celebrating his 78th birthday, Raffi posed alongside his dog and shared that legendary smile with his followers.

Reflecting on the Success of 'Baby Beluga'

Back in 2021, Raffi reflected on his most famous song, "Baby Beluga." The 1980 tune, which follows a young beluga whale who swims in the ocean, served as the title track off the album of the same name.

"I think what “Baby Beluga” did for me is it took my career to another level of popularity," Raffi told AV Club. "I don’t know what it is about that little white whale on the go. Oh, my. It seems to move hearts so much. So you can imagine how I might feel when a young parent tells me that for their 6-month-old, when that song comes on, everything just calms down. I think, 'Wow, that’s magic.' I didn’t know it was going to have that effect. How could I have known?"

Back in March, Raffi shared his newest sing-along picture book, Mama Loves It, illustrated by Patricia Pessoa.

There are some songs that bore into your soul and nestle into your heart. They feel like a sort of magic, one that shapeshifts for each person who hears it. They somehow encapsulate a universal experience that transcends class, age, and race. We expect that from many prolific artists like Leonard Cohen, James Taylor, and Stevie Nicks. And while it is more than fair to expect it from Jackson Browne, I don't think anyone would have expected him to be able to craft such a song at the tender age of 16.

But that's exactly what he did when he penned "These Days," according to American Songwriter. The song itself is an ode to lost love, as well as the passage of time, which is such a mature theme for a boy Browne's age. Originally, it was known as “I’ve Been Out Walking” for a 1967 demo tape for Elektra’s Nina Music publishing. They gave it to Velvet Underground singer Nico for her 1967 solo album, Chelsea Girl. Browne ended up even playing guitar on her version.

By 1973, Browne had changed a few things about the song, and "These Days" ended up on Gregg Allman’s 1973 solo album, Laid Back. Browne also released his own version of the song that same year, but his success was eclipsed by Allman's, as he had just released "Take It Easy" with the Eagles (which Browne co-wrote with Glenn Frey).

Browne hailed from Orange County, California, which was where he fell in love with folk music, he once told the Library of Congress. He took inspiration from the likes of Joan Baez and Bob Dylan.

"I encountered folk music which was again a very… it was a world full of historical songs that really reflected the lives of people who were immigrants, many of them slaves, and there was just this whole deep history and deep culture of folk music that I was drawn into and then, of course, there was also a bunch of these scruffy young people that played it," Browne explained. "It was old, old men and women and young people journeying through life, and I was really drawn to Bob Dylan’s first record and Joan Baez’s first records."

It was there he'd hang around spots like the Troubadour Hoot, and would sign up to perform four songs for the evening, though as he explained to Route Magazine, it wasn't his favorite thing to do.

"The cool thing is that my friends played my songs," he explained. "I didn’t sing very well. They would sing my songs, but it was an odd thing for me to try to do, because I wasn’t that comfortable on stage, but it was fun. I started doing it fairly regularly."

Speaking of "friends" singing his songs, "These Days" has been covered by a multitude of artists across a staggering number of genres aside from the famous folks already mentioned:

• 1975:Cher (Recorded for her solo album Stars)
• 1999:Elliott Smith (Widely bootlegged, raw acoustic live performance)
• 2004: Fountains of Wayne (A pitch-perfect power-pop cover)
• 2020:Miley Cyrus(Stripped-back, acoustic backyard session)

It's ironic to me that Browne never considered himself a good singer, because among all the versions of this song, I'd argue his is the most emotional and compelling. And the fact that he was only 16 when he wrote it makes it all the more astonishing.
