In 1928, an Italian-born chef named Hector Boiardi turned the popularity of his Cleveland restaurant into a packaged-food business. There was only one hitch: Americans had trouble saying his last name.

His solution eventually became one of the most recognizable names in the supermarket aisle.

Boiardi and his family spelled the name phonetically for American customers, turning Boiardi into the much easier-to-pronounce Chef Boy-Ar-Dee, which eventually became Chef Boyardee.

The man whose face appeared on the products wasn’t a fictional mascot, either. He was a real chef with an impressive résumé long before canned pasta made him famous.

Born Ettore Boiardi in Piacenza, Italy, in 1897, Boiardi began working as an apprentice chef when he was just 11 years old. As a teenager, he immigrated to the United States and found work in some of the country’s most prestigious kitchens.

According to Chef Boyardee’s official history, by age 17 he was working at New York City’s Plaza Hotel. He also worked at The Greenbrier in West Virginia, where he helped oversee catering for President Woodrow Wilson’s wedding reception.

But Boiardi’s biggest break came after he went into business for himself.

In 1924, Boiardi and his wife, Helen, opened Il Giardino d’Italia in Cleveland, Ohio. His Italian dishes proved so popular that customers began asking if they could take his spaghetti sauce home with them.

Instead of simply handing over the recipe, Boiardi began filling cleaned milk bottles with his sauce and sending customers home with pasta so they could recreate his dishes in their own kitchens.

Demand quickly grew beyond what one restaurant could handle.

In 1928, Boiardi joined forces with his brothers Mario and Paul to establish the company that would become Chef Boyardee. Its early spaghetti dinner included pasta, tomato sauce and grated cheese, bringing a restaurant-style Italian meal into American homes at a time when Italian cuisine was far less familiar to many Americans than it is today.

There was still the matter of the family name.

Boiardi’s American customers and even some of his salespeople struggled to pronounce it correctly, so the company adopted the phonetic “Boy-Ar-Dee.” The spelling was later streamlined into the familiar “Boyardee.”

Boiardi didn’t take changing his family name lightly.

“Everyone is proud of his own family name, but sacrifices are necessary for progress,” he once explained, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Progress came quickly.

By the late 1930s, the growing business had moved production to Milton, Pennsylvania, where the company had access to the tomatoes needed for Boiardi’s sauce. The factory became particularly important during World War II.

Beginning in 1942, the Chef Boyardee plant operated around the clock producing food for American troops. Case Western Reserve University’s Encyclopedia of Cleveland History reports that by the end of the war, Chef Boy-Ar-Dee Quality Foods was generating $20 million in annual sales.

But the end of the war created a new problem. The enormous wartime operation no longer had the same military demand to support it, potentially putting employees’ jobs at risk.

According to Chef Boyardee’s official history, Boiardi made the difficult decision to sell the company in order to keep the workers who had been hired during the wartime production boom.

In 1946, Boiardi sold the business to American Home Foods for $6 million.

He didn’t disappear from the company that carried his name. Boiardi stayed on as a consultant until 1978 and became the familiar face of Chef Boyardee in advertising, ensuring generations of Americans knew exactly what the real Chef Boyardee looked like.

Boiardi died in 1985 at age 87.

Nearly a century after he first began packaging food from his Cleveland restaurant, his face and the phonetic version of his Italian surname are still on grocery-store shelves, making Chef Boyardee one of the rare food mascots who was very much a real person.

Bon Jovi are heading back out in 2027, and the run includes a return to London’s Hyde Park. The band announced a seven-date tour that opens in Australia in March and wraps up in Toronto in August, with a UK-exclusive headline show at BST Hyde Park on June 24.

The tour starts at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne on March 4 and moves to Accor Stadium in Sydney on March 11. After London, the band plays MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on July 15, Soldier Field in Chicago on July 21, Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, on July 28 and Rogers Stadium in Toronto on Aug. 4.

The Hyde Park date has history. Bon Jovi were the first act announced for the inaugural Barclaycard British Summer Time festival in 2013, and they played the park on July 5 of that year. Jon Bon Jovi called the 2027 show “a full circle moment to be returning to BST Hyde Park.” Jim King, CEO of AEG Presents UK and European Festivals, called the band “one of the defining rock bands of their generation” and described the show as a rare return.

The announcement caps a comeback year. The Forever Tour was the band’s first extended run since Jon Bon Jovi’s vocal cord surgery in 2022. It opened in July with nine shows at Madison Square Garden, then moved on to Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, Croke Park in Dublin and three nights at Wembley Stadium in September. The Wembley shows were the band’s first in the UK since 2019.

On the final Wembley night, Sept. 9, Jon hinted at what was next. “We are booking a tour right now for next year,” he told the crowd, adding that it would be a long five or so months before the band went back on the road.

Starting in late October, snack fans nationwide will be able to indulge in two delectable flavors:

• Roasted Holiday Turkey, which is billed as a rich gravy and roasted turkey potato chip, but has a hint of stuffing as well. 

Maple Bacon, which balances sweet maple flavor with smoky bacon, debuts a few weeks later on November 8. 

All three flavors can go beyond snacking, with maple bacon making a perfect topping for baked macaroni and cheese, cheddar scalloped-style potatoes pairing fantastically as a crushed topping for your cheesy holiday favorites, and if you want to jazz up your green bean casserole, consider swapping out crispy fried onions for the roasted holiday turkey flavor.

There are also two major additions to the Lay’s lineup scheduled for later in the year. In late November, fans of sweet and salty combinations will be delighted to find wavy milk chocolate and wavy Dubai-style dark chocolate chips on grocery shelves.

Pepsi is giving its classic cola a creamy new twist just in time for the holiday season.

The brand announced October 19 that Pepsi Vanilla & Cream and Pepsi Zero Sugar Vanilla & Cream are now available nationwide for a limited time. The new flavors combine Pepsi’s signature cola taste with rich vanilla and smooth cream flavors, offering a new option for fans looking to switch up their usual soda order.

Both varieties are available in 12-pack cans and 20-ounce bottles. The Zero Sugar version also contains zero calories, according to the company.

Pepsi is positioning the new drinks as an indulgent seasonal treat, whether shoppers want to pair them with their favorite holiday foods, serve them at a festive gathering or enjoy a cold soda at home.

Liev Schreiber is looking for a quieter life in his next television role, but his character’s move to a small Pennsylvania town quickly turns into a nightmare.

The actor stars in Nocturne, a new crime thriller premiering October 30 on Apple TV. The 10-episode series also stars Stephen Graham and Zazie Beetz, bringing together three actors known for their work in film and television.

Schreiber’s recent credits include Netflix’s mystery drama The Perfect Couple, in which he starred alongside Nicole Kidman, and Darren Aronofsky’s 2025 crime film Caught Stealing. He also returned to the world of Ray Donovan in the 2022 television movie, reprising the role that became one of his best-known performances. Now, in Nocturne, Schreiber takes on another troubled investigator, this time caught in a dangerous search for a serial killer’s final missing victim.

Schreiber plays Jonah Lynn, an ex-soldier turned homicide detective, who leaves Philadelphia hoping to escape the demands of his job. When a dangerous serial killer threatens the town and Jonah’s family, his plans for a fresh start fall apart.

Graham plays Jurek Walter, the calculating killer at the center of the investigation. When the search for Walter’s last missing victim intensifies, Jonah must send his surrogate daughter, FBI agent Saga Bauer, played by Beetz, into the investigation. The decision forces him to weigh the demands of the case against the safety of someone he considers family.

The series is based on the bestselling crime novel The Sandman by Lars Kepler, the pen name of Swedish writing duo Alexandra Coelho Ahndoril and Alexander Ahndoril. Their Joona Linna crime novels have sold 20 million copies worldwide and been translated into 40 languages, according to Apple.

Rowan Joffé, whose previous credits include Tin Star and Ballad of a Small Player, created the series for television and John Hlavin, known for Shooter, also writes and serves as a showrunner. Tim Van Patten, whose directing credits include The Sopranos, directs the first two episodes.

Nocturne premieres globally on Friday, October 30, with its first two episodes. New episodes will follow every Friday through December 25 on Apple TV.

While music lovers everywhere know Graceland as a shrine to rock ‘n’ roll history, Elvis Presley‘s legendary estate was first and foremost a beloved family home.

Reflecting on the personal memories created within its walls, the estate shared a touching vintage photo featuring Elvis Presley alongside his young daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. The candid image highlights a sweet, quiet moment between father and daughter away from the glare of the spotlight, giving fans a nostalgic look at the deep connection they shared behind closed doors.

On Instagram, the home’s official site posted a look back at an undated Christmas morning. The King of Rock and Roll and his daughter were seen opening presents in the home’s dining room.

A second Instagram user declared, “Beautiful, Christmas with his baby girl!!!”

“I literally just break down and cry, So beautiful, but so sad,” penned a third fan.

Elvis Presley died at age 42 in August 1977. Lisa Marie died in 2023 at the age of 54.

Some songs define an era, and some change the sound of music long after their initial success. Cher’s “Believe” managed to do both.

Released on October 19, 1998, the dance-pop hit became one of the defining songs of the late ’90s, thanks in part to its instantly recognizable, digitally altered vocals. Nearly three decades later, the effect remains a fixture in pop, hip-hop, and other genres, making “Believe” one of the most influential records of its time.

“I honestly think that the most fun I ever had making a song was ‘Believe’,” Cher told Billboard in 2015.

The song’s signature sound came from producers Mark Taylor and Brian Rawling, who used Auto-Tune in a way listeners had rarely heard before. Originally developed to correct pitch, the technology was pushed to an extreme on “Believe,” giving Cher’s voice a robotic, almost futuristic quality. Rather than hiding the digital manipulation, the production made it impossible to miss.

The idea emerged as Taylor experimented with Cher’s vocals in the studio. Cher had also heard a similar vocal effect in a recording by British singer Roachford and encouraged the producers to try it. When Taylor played her the results, she loved the sound. Warner Bros. executives were less enthusiastic and wanted the effect removed, but Cher reportedly refused, telling them, “Over my dead body.”

Her instincts proved right. “Believe” topped charts around the world, reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1999 and earned Cher the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording in 2000. At 52, she also became the oldest female artist to top the Hot 100 with a newly released song, a record she still holds.

The track’s impact extended far beyond its own chart success. Its conspicuous use of Auto-Tune helped turn the technology from a behind-the-scenes correction tool into a defining creative effect. Artists including T-Pain, Kanye West, and Future would later use vocal processing in their own distinctive ways, helping make digitally transformed voices a familiar part of contemporary music.

“Believe” also marked a remarkable late-career triumph for Cher, who had been recording music for decades before the song introduced her to a new generation of listeners. Its combination of dance-floor energy, heartbreak lyrics, and futuristic production helped make it a lasting pop classic.

While the song may be turning 28 this year, Cher told Today in 2023 she and aging are not friends.

“My mother didn’t mind. But I do. I hate it,” she said.

William Shatner has spent six decades boldly going froward, facing threats both real and fictional. Sitting down with fellow Star Trek veterans Brent Spiner and Jonathan Frakes, Shatner said he has been afraid of death his entire life, and at 95, he is in no hurry to meet it. “I don’t want to go,” he said.

The conversation on Spiner and Frakes’ podcast Dropping Names, began on a brighter note. Shatner arrived straight from a medical appointment that started at 7:30 that morning, with scans and bloodwork. His doctor, he said, told him he had never seen anybody so healthy. A cardiologist offered a forecast Shatner clearly relishes: if he can stay alive two more years, medical advances could keep him going for 10.

That checkup is cause for joy considering the fast few years. In June 2023, Shatner was diagnosed with stage 4 malignant melanoma that had spread to his lungs and brain, while his daughter Melanie Shatner Gretsch was still in treatment for stage 4 breast cancer. Omid Hamid, an immuno-oncologist who helped develop the immunotherapy that treated him, said that two decades ago, patients with his diagnosis typically survived six to eight months. Father and daughter have both been cancer-free since late 2024.

The experience led to No Time But Now, a weekly podcast the two launched in July focused on health, longevity and living in the present. On Dropping Names, Shatner called many medical advances “unheralded,” saying few people, and even many doctors, know about them.

The episode’s most tender moment came when the talk turned to artificial intelligence. Shatner said he had spent about a year asking ChatGPT questions about cancer, exploration and the philosopher Spinoza. After having it write out John Keats’ “Ode to a Nightingale,” he asked it to write something for him. He declined to say what. When he asked how a formless machine could produce something so beautiful, it credited his own questions and curiosity. “I started to cry,” he said.

His takeaway is that people should “feed it our humanity.” The view stands in contrast to April, when he called out AI-generated hoaxes falsely claiming he had brain cancer and was dying, warning that the technology can become a weapon in the wrong hands.

Shatner was candid that his thinking is unfinished. He told the hosts he doesn’t fully understand the ideas he is wrestling with, but he knows how he feels, and he expects to be a different person a month from now. He also acknowledged that, as a matter of simple math, he has much less time left than the two men across the table. That reckoning with health, mortality and the technology reshaping daily life now plays out weekly in the conversations he records with his daughter.

Joyce Bulifant still looks the same as she did 50 years ago on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. The actress played Marie Slaughter, the bubbly wife of Gavin MacLeod’s Murray, in a recurring role from 1971 to 1977 on the CBS sitcom. Five decades later, Bulifant has clearly found the fountain of youth because she hasn’t aged a day.

Recently appearing on the Katchy Klassics podcast with hosts Kathy Garver and Larry Dasilva, Bulifant, 88, looked back on her long career as an actress, author, and ‘70s TV game show regular.  But fans online also noted that her face and girlish voice haven’t changed at all and that she still looks “great” at 88.

In videos from the podcast, Bulifant, who turns 89 on Dec. 16, is seen with her hair cut short as it was in the 1970s, wearing pink lipstick and flashing her gorgeous smile.

In the 1970s, Bulifant’s cheerful personality and distinctive youthful voice made her a fan-favorite TV personality. In addition to The Mary Tyler Moore Show, she appeared on Love Thy Neighbor, Three’s Company, Alice and more, and was a game show fixture on shows like Match Game and The $10,000 Pyramid.

She always knew she wanted to be an actress, telling Bookpleasures in an interview, “Since I was a little girl the only two things I ever wanted to do were to be an actress or a nurse. When you are an actress you get to be all kinds of characters. I did volunteer in the emergency room as a patient advocate. Aren’t I lucky…I have been able to follow all my dreams!”

Bulifant was married five times: to Hawaii Five-O star James MacArthur; producer William Asher; Days of Our Lives actor Edward Mallory; Glade Bruce Hansen, and actor Roger Perry. She wrote the book My Four Hollywood Husbands based on her four husbands who were tied to show business.

She also has three children, Charles and Mary MacArthur and John Mallory Asher, and is a grandmother to Evan, her son John’s child with his ex-wife Jenny McCarthy.

Bulifant once told Closer Weekly that family is everything to her. “What I love most is seeing my kids happy and achieving what they want to achieve and that they’re healthy,” she said. “I love being a grandmother,” she added.

Bulifant’s positive outlook could be one of the things that keeps her so youthful at age 88. While she’s had some Hollywood disappointments, such as losing a lead role on The Brady Bunch at the very last minute in 1969, she always remained optimistic.

“When you’re in the entertainment business, you have to deal with disappointment and rejection, so if you don’t feel strong and confident about yourself, it can be very disheartening,” she told Boomer magazine.

On Katchy Klassics, Bulifant added that her career always revolved around her family’s needs.

 “I felt family was the most important and I always felt if I didn’t get something, I wasn’t supposed to get it,” Bulifant said.

For over six decades, Rod Stewart, 81, has brought fans together with his music, signature rasp, and unmatched energy.

So when an unexpected cardiac procedure forced the beloved rocker to pause his tour schedule to undergo a heart stent procedure, his fans were understandably concerned for his health. Now, the music icon is breaking his silence to share an update on his recovery, reassuring fans that he is steadily regaining his strength and looking toward the future.

The Daily Mail spoke to the musician outside the Aldwych Theatre in London after attending Sinatra: The Musical. PEOPLE Magazine shared news of the singer’s recent coronary stent procedure to treat a slight heart blockage.

He was asked by reporters how he felt. Stewart answered, “Brilliant! I swam 400 metres [1300 feet] the other day.”

His wife, Penny Lancaster, added that the rock icon won’t be slowing down anytime soon. She exclaimed, “He’s never retiring!”

Lancaster continued, “He is world touring! He’s going to be touring until 2028 doing the Rock n Roll, and then he changes direction to the Great American Songbook.”

Stewart, knighted by Queen Elizabeth for his contributions to the entertainment industry in 2016, was at the event to support the Frank Sinatra family. They share a close, personal relationship.

The entertainer told reporters, “His [Sinatra’s] daughters are godmothers to two of my children. So we have a close family, but he always offered good advice.”

In August, a statement from Stewart’s publicist regarding his health read, “Following further medical evaluation, Sir Rod Stewart has successfully undergone a routine coronary stent procedure. Doctors are pleased with his recovery, and Rod is doing very well and has returned to his normal daily activities.”

“On the advice of his doctors, he will take the next four weeks to recuperate and regain full fitness before returning to the stage. Unfortunately, this means he will be unable to continue his current tour dates.”

Before his current health diagnosis, on September 28, 2026, Stewart announced that his final tour would be his last.

In an Instagram video, Stewart shared, “Ladies and gentlemen, after much deliberation and sadness, I have to announce, next year will be my last tour ever, ever.”

He added, “I’m not retiring, but this will be the last rock and roll tour. So I want to thank you for everything you’ve given me, and hopefully I’ve given you something in return.”

With all the steps in the skincare routines we see on social media these days, taking care of our faces can get seriously expensive. For that reason, I’m always on the lookout for affordable skincare products that I can find in drugstores that actually work. But which ones are the best? And are any drugstore skincare products—particularly, face cleansers—that are dermatologist approved?

To find out, we turned to celebrity dermatologist Dr. Ava Shamban, a board-certified dermatologist and the founder of Ava MD, who has treated celebrity clients including Nicole Kidman, Angela Bassett, Zooey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel and Chrissy Teigen.

Below, Dr. Shamban dishes on three of the drugstore face washes that she loves, as well as two of the ones she recommends skipping.

And to learn more about drugstore cleansers in general, we also consulted with Dr. Renée Snyder, a board-certified dermatologist, the owner of Snyder Dermatology and the co-founder of beauty brands Well People and Keys Soulcare, which she co-created with Alicia Keys.

Why Celebrity Dermatologists Actually Love Drugstore Face Cleansers

Both Dr. Shamban and Dr. Snyder agree that you can find effective face cleansers in the drugstore.

“I believe you do not need to spend a lot of money on a cleanser to get a very good one,” Dr. Shamban tells Parade.

“Its primary job is simple: It’s used to remove makeup, sunscreen, excess oil, pollution and debris without stripping the skin or disrupting its protective barrier,” she adds. “In fact, cleanser is probably one of the easiest places to save money in your skincare routine.”

“A cleanser’s job is to cleanse the skin,” Dr. Snyder explains. Its job is not to “do any heavy lifting or be a treatment product.”

That said, some drugstore cleansers make claims that go beyond the scope of what a face wash can really do, according to Dr. Snyder. She “is always skeptical with drugstore cleansers that are marketed as brightening or anti-aging because they are usually on the skin for only 30 to 60 seconds before being rinsed off. This is too short of a time period to have any meaningful impact on pigmentation, pore-size or fine lines.”

How To Choose a Drugstore Face Wash

According to Dr. Shamban, “More important than the price is ensuring the formula is appropriate for your skin type.”

Although everyone’s skin is different, in general, she recommends cleansers made with “gentle surfactants, hydrating ingredients and a formula that leaves the skin feeling clean but not tight.”

Dr. Snyder agrees, noting that she usually goes for cleansers that are “gentle, inexpensive, and non-stripping.” She recommends face washes that are barrier-friendly and free of fragrances, essential oils and sensitizing preservatives—especially for patients with skin conditions like eczema or rosacea.

Since there’s no need to spend a ton of money on face wash, Dr. Snyder recommends “spending money on sunscreens and active ingredients that are in leave-on products.”

These 3 Drugstore Cleansers Are Celebrity Dermatologist-Approved

In no particular order, here are three of Dr. Shamban’s favorite face cleansers that you can find in drugstores.

1. Thayers Hydrating Milky Cleanser, $15

Dr. Shamban recommends this especially for “normal-to-dry, mature or sensitive skin because it cleanses without creating a parched feeling afterward.”

Its key ingredients include glycerin, hyaluronic acid and snow mushroom, “all of which help support hydration and the skin barrier while cleansing,” according to Dr. Shamban.

This cleanser is also free of fragrances and sulfates and it is cruelty-free and vegan, Dr. Shamban points out. Plus, Thayers products can be found in many drugstores, including CVS, Walgreens, Target and more.

2. Pacifica Vegan Ceramide Extra Gentle Face Wash, $12

Dr. Shamban describes this face wash as “a very nice everyday option, particularly for sensitive, dry or easily irritated skin.”

She loves this cleanser because “it is fragrance- and sulfate-free and contains … soothing marshmallow root and calendula.” It also works to support the skin barrier and maintain moisture balance. Pacifica products are also all cruelty-free and vegan and commonly found in stores like Target, Walmart, Whole Foods, Ulta and more.

3. BYOMA Creamy Jelly Cleanser, $11

According to Dr. Shamban, this jelly cleanser is “a good example of a cleanser designed with the skin barrier in mind.”

This cleanser, which is cruelty-free and vegan, “contains ceramides, cholesterol and fatty acids which are the same major categories of lipids we naturally find in the outer layer of healthy skin,” explains Dr. Shamban.

She also points out that this jelly cleanser includes high-quality ingredients like glycerin, licorice root and green tea, and “it is pH-balanced, fragrance-free and non-comedogenic.” It also has a Seal of Acceptance from the National Eczema Association, making it a great option for people with eczema or sensitive skin, and it can be found in Target, Ulta, Boots and more.

2 Drugstore Cleansers That a Celebrity Dermatologist Would Skip

Dr. Shamban would avoid the two below drugstore cleansers—or, at least, “use with caution.”

1. St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub

“For the face, I am generally not a fan of aggressive physical exfoliation, and this formula uses ground walnut shell and apricot pit particles for a fairly deep scrub,” Dr. Shamban says of the St. Ives Fresh Skin Apricot Scrub, a popular drugstore option.

“The problem is less about one particular ingredient being ‘bad’ and more about how easy it is to overdo mechanical exfoliation, particularly if you have sensitive skin, acne, rosacea or are already using retinoids or exfoliating acids,” she adds. “You do not need to sand the skin to make it smooth. Gentle exfoliation is usually the better strategy.”

2. Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Pink Grapefruit Facial Cleanser

“For oily, very resilient skin, this may be perfectly tolerable,” Dr. Shamban says of this product. “But for someone who is sensitive, dry or already using prescription acne treatments, I would generally choose a more gentle option.”

The formula contains 2% salicylic acid, which can be a helpful ingredient, but it’s paired here with additives like fragrance, colorants and sodium C14-16 olefin sulfonate, a combination that Dr. Shamban isn’t a fan of.

“I like salicylic acid for acne, but I don’t necessarily love surrounding a useful active with ingredients that may make an acne routine harder for sensitive or compromised skin to tolerate,” she explains. “Acne-prone skin still needs a healthy barrier. Drying it out is not the same thing as clearing it up.”

4. Royal Caribbean’s Hero of the Seas Royal Caribbean will introduce double The Hideaway on Hero of the Seas with two pools for adults, including the largest swim-up bar at sea. Tied as the world’s largest cruise ship, it comes packed with record-breaking family attractions. “This fourth Icon-class ship will certainly appeal to people interested in the ultimate family vacations aboard the largest ships available,” notes Chiron. Highlights include nine pools, the Category 6 waterpark (featuring the first-ever funnel raft slide at sea), and the sprawling three-story Ultimate Family Treehouse suite. The ship boasts 28 dining options—including the new Orleans Parish Supper Club—alongside family favorites like the AquaDome Market and interactive cooking classes. Sailing 7-night itineraries out of Miami, Florida, every voyage includes a stop at Perfect Day at CocoCay.

5. MSC World Atlantic Ocean Cay Marine Reserve

The vessel features vibrant Latin American flair with Viva la Musica entertainment alongside dedicated family zones like The Clubhouse and brand-new indoor retreat Coral Cove. Centered around the theme of “promise and possibility,” the vessel honors dreamers and doers with immersive Disney and Pixar storytelling—featuring Encanto, Frozen, Snow White, Moana, and The Little Mermaid, alongside iconic character bow and stern appearances from Tinker Bell to Buzz and Woody.

8. Margaritaville at Sea Beachcomber The Front Yard will be a new bar on Margaritaville’s Next Ship, Beachcomber

Joining the fleet in early 2027, Margaritaville at Sea Beachcomber marks the line’s largest ship to date following a massive $40 million bow-to-stern transformation of the former Costa Fortuna. “Margaritaville at Sea continues its rapid expansion with its third and largest vessel yet,” notes Chiron. “Guests can look forward to live entertainment specially curated by multi-platinum country star Zac Brown—the ship’s official godfather—alongside new family activity zones and island-inspired dining.” From the Dis ‘N Dat Activity Zone and Tropical Twist waterslide to the hidden Cowboy in the Jungle speakeasy and live shows at Zac Brown’s Same Boat venue, the ship delivers a laid-back, multi-generational escape on 4- to 8-night Caribbean itineraries.

Sure, we all love that chicken from Popeyes, but the fast food chain is bringing back a different type of bird, just in time for the holidays.

A flavorful centerpiece for your Thanksgiving or holiday dinner table, Popeyes Cajun-Style Turkey has returned. Starting at $59.99, the turkey, which is marinated and seasoned with Cajun spices, is something Popeyes fans wait for all year.

And, because a delicious Thanksgiving meal doesn’t have to involve a lot of prep, cooking, and clean-up, Popeyes sides can be added to the mix to keep everything incredibly easy on Turkey Day. Popeyes Cajun-Style Turkey comes marinated, seasoned, and fully-cooked, so all you have to do is thaw the bird, heat it up, and serve it to your holiday dinner guests.

Paired with Popeyes side dishes like macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, Cajun gravy, and buttermilk biscuits, the meal is one that’s likely to make even the fussiest dinner guests happy. What’s more, a large-sized Popeyes side dish costs around $7, depending on your location, and feeds around four guests, making it affordable and easy to stock up and save yourself lots of extra effort in the kitchen.

Information posted to the Popeyes Cajun-Style Turkey information site says a typical Popeyes turkey weighs between 11-13 pounds and feeds about 8-12 people when served with sides. Turkeys should be stored in the freezer until you’re ready to thaw, and thawing should take about 72 hours, so plan accordingly. Popeyes suggests consuming leftover Cajun-Style Turkey within three days of first heating.

The chain also suggests saving the pan drippings from your turkey to make Cajun-Style Gravy, a recipe for which is listed on its informational website.

This isn’t the only delicious news to come from Popeyes of late. Last month, Popeyes introduced a $5 Honey Chicken Biscuit to its menu, combining the chain’s buttermilk biscuits, Popeyes fried chicken, and sachets of sweet honey for a treat that’s on the menu all day long.

Popeyes Cajun-Style Turkeys are available starting Oct. 19, and can be ordered through Nov. 19 at Popeyes.com, on the Popeyes app, or in your closest Popeyes restaurant. Availability is limited and varies by restaurant, and pick-up dates start on Oct. 23 and are chosen when reserving your turkey.

Also according to the information site for Popeyes Cajun-Style Turkeys, the turkeys will also be sold at participating Kroger-family stores, including Dillons, Fred Meyer, Food 4 Less, Fry’s, King Soopers, QFC, Roundy’s, and Smith’s in select markets across 33 U.S. states.

On the night of December 20, 1968, two teenagers parked on a remote road in Benicia, California, were shot and killed by a stranger who walked up to their car and opened fire. Betty Lou Jensen was 16. David Faraday was 17. They’d been on a date. Police had no leads, no suspect, and no motive.

Seven months later, the killer struck again — this time at a couple parked near Vallejo — killing Darlene Ferrin and wounding Michael Mageau. Then he did something nobody expected. He called the police. He told them exactly what he’d done. He was calm. Then he mailed letters to 3 Bay Area newspapers — the San Francisco Chronicle, the San Francisco Examiner, and the Vallejo Times-Herald — claiming responsibility and including details only the killer could’ve known. He signed each letter with a crosshair symbol. He called himself the Zodiac.

He told the papers to print a coded cipher he’d included, or he’d go on a killing rampage. They printed it — on their front pages. A serial killer had dictated the front page of major American newspapers, and it worked. A married couple of schoolteachers in Salinas — Donald Harden and his wife Bettye — cracked the 408-character cipher in under a week. It didn’t reveal his name. It opened with: “I like killing people because it is so much fun.” He said he was collecting victims as slaves for the afterlife and wasn’t afraid of death because he’d have enough slaves waiting for him in paradise.

On September 27, 1969, he attacked a couple picnicking at Lake Berryessa in Napa County. He’d sewn himself a black executioner’s hood with his crosshair symbol on the front. He approached them calmly and told them he was an escaped convict before he attacked.

On October 11, 1969, he shot and killed a 29-year-old taxi driver named Paul Stine in San Francisco’s Presidio Heights neighborhood. Teenagers across the street watched him wipe down the cab and called police. The dispatcher made a broadcast error — describing the suspect as a Black man. A patrol officer passed a white man on the street who matched the real description and let him go. The Zodiac disappeared into the Presidio. He later wrote about it — mocking the officers by name for letting him walk. It was the closest police ever came to catching him. It was also his last confirmed murder.

The Message That Stumped Everyone for 51 Years

Two weeks after the Stine murder, someone called into the Jim Dunbar Show, a local San Francisco talk show, claiming to be the Zodiac. He said he was sick and didn’t want to go to the gas chamber. Police doubted the caller was real.

On November 8, 1969, the Zodiac sent another cipher to the San Francisco Chronicle — 340 characters of symbols and letters that couldn’t be cracked. He kept writing letters. He threatened to bomb a school bus. He threatened to shoot children. He sent pieces of Stine’s bloody shirt as proof. The FBI worked on the 340 cipher for decades. Professional cryptographers around the world took a run at it. A supercomputer built specifically to think like the Zodiac couldn’t solve it. The cipher sat there for 51 years.

In 2006, a web designer named David Oranchak in Virginia came across the 340 cipher and thought he could crack it quickly. He was wrong. He spent 14 years on it as a hobby — picking it up and putting it down — before connecting with Sam Blake, an applied mathematician in Melbourne, and Jarl Van Eycke, a programmer in Belgium. Van Eycke had built codebreaking software. Blake created 650,000 variations of the ciphertext. Oranchak fed them through the software. On December 3, 2020, the gibberish started making sense. They submitted the solution to the FBI, and the bureau confirmed it on December 11, 2020.

The decoded message opened: “I hope you are having lots of fun in trying to catch me. That wasn’t me on the TV show.” He went on: “I am not afraid of the gas chamber because it will send me to paradice all the sooner because I now have enough slaves to work for me. Everyone else has nothing when they reach paradise, so they are afraid of death. I am not afraid because I know that my new life will be an easy one in paradice death.” He’d misspelled paradise twice. He still hadn’t named himself. Oranchak told the New York Times it was “more of the same junk that the killer liked to write about — it’s just intended to hurt people and make them afraid.”

The last confirmed letter arrived at the San Francisco Chronicle in January 1974. He claimed 37 victims. He signed off: “Zodiac — 37 SFPD — 0.” Then he stopped writing. Nobody’s ever known why. The San Francisco Police Department marked the case inactive in 2004. They reopened it in 2007. Nobody’s ever been charged. David Oranchak was born in 1974 — the same year the Zodiac sent his last letter. He spent 14 years cracking a code from a man who may have been dead before Oranchak was old enough to read. The Zodiac Killer’s identity is still unknown.

OK, I know getting an apartment with a dishwasher won’t actually solve all of my problems, but it’ll certainly help me save time and elbow grease on a daily basis.

That said, various friends and family members have complained about issues with their dishwasher over the years, ranging from rust developing on the top rack to mysterious smells to the machine not cleaning as thoroughly as it once did.

Their comments have left me wondering why dishwashers always seem to experience reduced efficacy over time—and is there a way to prevent it?

To find out, we turned to Glenn Lewis, the President of Mr. Appliance, a Neighborly company that offers professional repair and maintenance services for various appliances.

If Your Dishwasher Isn’t Cleaning Properly, You Need to Clean This Hidden Spot

If your dishwasher isn’t cleaning your dishes thoroughly, you might need to clean the filter beneath the dishwasher’s lower rack.

“The filter located beneath the bottom rack is often the most overlooked area in a dishwasher,” Lewis tells Parade. “Newer dishwashers have removable filters that trap food particles and debris, and when the filter becomes clogged with food residue, grease and buildup, water flow is restricted and the dishwasher cannot effectively clean dishes.”

Why You Need to Clean Your Dishwasher’s Filter

As Lewis explains, the dishwasher filter “is designed to capture food particles before they recirculate through the appliance.”

If the filter isn’t cleaned, it can get clogged, which will “prevent proper water flow” and can “cause food debris to be redistributed onto dishes.” Ewww.

And the longer you go on without cleaning the filter, the worse the problem can get.

“Over time, buildup can also contribute to odors and place additional strain on the appliance,” Lewis says.

How to Clean Your Dishwasher’s Hidden Filter

“Not all brands have removable filters,” says Lewis. “Be sure to read your use and care manual for your specific dishwasher.”

As long as your dishwasher does have a filter, you can get started with cleaning it anytime. And fear not—though cleaning your dishwasher filter may sound like an overwhelming and icky job, Lewis is here to reassure you that it’s just “a simple maintenance task.” In fact, all you need is dish soap, a basic cleaning brush and a sink.

Here’s how to clean your dishwasher filter, in Lewis’ words:

1. Remove the lower rack.
2. Locate the filter at the bottom of the dishwasher.
3. Unlock and remove the filter.
4. Rinse the filter under hot running water to remove loose debris.
5. Wash it with warm water and dish soap.
6. Gently scrub with a soft-bristle brush if needed.
7. Reinstall the filter, making sure it’s secure before starting the dishwasher.

From there, your next load of dishes should come out clean and sparkly!

Why So Many People Don’t Know About Cleaning Their Dishwasher’s Filter

You’d think that newer, high-tech dishwashers would be able to self-clean their own filters—however, it’s actually the older dishwashers that had this feature, per Lewis.

“Although older dishwashers often have self-cleaning filters, most new dishwashers have a removable filter that requires routine maintenance,” he explains.

“Because the filter is located beneath the lower rack and out of sight, it is easy to overlook until cleaning performance noticeably declines,” Lewis adds. “It’s important to regularly inspect and maintain internal components, such as the filter.”

How Often to Clean Your Dishwasher’s Filter

“In order to prevent odors, clogs, and reduced cleaning performance, dishwasher filters should be inspected and cleaned about once a month,” Lewis says. However, this varies depending on how often you run your dishwasher.

“Homes that run frequent dishwasher cycles or regularly wash heavily soiled dishes may benefit from more frequent cleaning,” he says. Conversely, if you live alone or don’t run your dishwasher more than once or twice a week, you can probably go longer stretches without cleaning the filter.

The 100-Year Rule: Why Vintage ‘Grandpa’ Names Are Trending 

Trends of all kinds go in and out of style, and it’s no different with names. The term used for that cyclical nature of naming is the “100-Year Rule.” If you’re unfamiliar with this term, Slagen tells Parade, “The 100-year rule basically says names cycle back into fashion every 100 years.”

Simple enough, but why every 100 years, you may ask?

“This is partially due to our associations with names,” she continues. “Baby names of the ’60s feel like ‘mom names’ or ‘dad names’ to Millennial parents.”

One of the reasons the trend of “grandpa names” is becoming so popular is because “we don’t have strong associations with names of the 1920s, so there is a freshness to them.”

That novelty (for this decade, at least) makes names of an older generation feel new and exciting, while maintaining a timeless and distinguished feel, which is exactly what many parents are looking for.

7 Vintage ‘Grandpa’ Names Making a Major Revival

Below are the vintage-inspired names Slagen has handpicked for a comeback. Each name’s meaning is provided so you can find the best fit for your family.

1. Sonny

Originally used as a nickname, especially for families whose lineage includes a “junior,” Sonny means “son.” With English roots and connotations of endearment, it’s no wonder Slagen picked this name for a classic feel that will stand the test of time.

Choosing a name for your baby can be broken down into steps to make the process easier. You already know that you want a name with a vintage feel, so you can start there. Slagen suggests you “check popularity so you’re not surprised.” If you want a name that will stand out and won’t be shared with multiple other children of the same age, this is an important step.

Another aspect of choosing a name that’s a little less common can be people’s reactions to it.

“If you are choosing a vintage revival—a name that hasn’t yet become mainstream again—be aware of that!” she tells Parade. “Uncommon names are more likely to get polarizing reactions from people.”

This step involves being in tune with yourself and realizing that “if you are sensitive, going with something more mainstream may be a better fit than being the ‘trendsetter.'”

This next step may seem simple, but it might not occur to a lot of people. Say the name you’re thinking of choosing.

“Always say the full name out loud,” Slagen recommends. “You want to make sure it’s not too clunky or too much of a tongue-twister with your last name.”

Overall, the most important step in choosing your baby’s name is making sure that it aligns with your family values and traditions, and sounds the way you want it to. After all, you’re going to be saying that name a lot over the coming years!

Combining portions of seemingly contradictory styles into one well-rounded result can be extremely chic. We asked Slagen for practical name styling tips on combining an antique name with something more sleek or contemporary, and she says she “loves a dynamic combination.”

The baby name consultant shares that her favorite name combinations include “pairing something more old-fashioned with something more modern, like Arthur Wells or Harvey June.” Combinations like these help to keep the full name feeling fresh and new. They provide that sought-after vintage charm while also bringing a cool, contemporary feel.
