Why Jake Telling Bode to Get Over Himself on 'Fire Country' Was So Satisfying

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 9:00pm

Bode Leone (Max Thieriot) is the hero of Fire Country, but he can be frustrating sometimes. OK, a lot of the time. He is self-absorbed and entitled and has a tendency to make things about himself. And in Season 2, Episode 7, his best friend Jake Crawford (Jordan Calloway) took him to task for it in a very satisfying way.

Usually when Bode behaves selfishly on Fire Country, someone calls him out, he apologizes and explains that his intentions were pure and acts charming, and they forgive him and immediately move on. But in “A Hail Mary,” Jake didn’t let him off the hook so easily, and the episode ended with their conflict unresolved. This is a good thing, because Jake was right, and Bode needs to experience discomfort like this before he can grow as a person.

Here’s what went down.

After Cara (Sabina Gadecki) died, it was decided that Bode’s parents Vince (Billy Burke) and Sharon (Diane Farr) would become Genevieve’s (Alix West Lefler) temporary guardians until Bode got out of prison and could take over. They were ready to sign the papers formalizing this arrangement, but Jake finally realized that he should adopt Genevieve. Neither he nor Bode are Genevieve’s biological father, but he at least actually has a relationship with her. He was going to ask Cara to marry him and become Genevieve’s father anyway.

When he told all this to Genevieve, she agreed, because she wanted Jake to be her dad all along, she just didn’t know how to say it. They were happy, and it felt very natural and right.

How does Bode react to Jake deciding to adopt Genevieve?

When Jake went to Three Rock to talk to Bode about what had happened, Bode didn’t take it well.

Bode wanted to know what had happened with signing the papers, and got defensive with Jake, demanding that Jake tell him if he doesn’t think Bode is right for the job.

“It’s not about you, Bode,” Jake replied. “Whether or not you’re right for the job, I have the job. She doesn’t know you. But I know her. I know that she hates the dentist and sleeping with her socks on. She loves thunderstorms. And when she says ‘eggs over easy’ what she really means is ‘eggs over medium.’ And that she needs to know what’s coming around the corner in detail, or else she gets really anxious.”

“OK, I just haven’t had a chance to get to know her,” Bode said, continuing to be defensive.

“I know. But I’ve been raising her. And I want to. And more importantly, Gen wants me to,” Jake said. “And I’m nervous, and I will need help, so I’m not trying to push you out, B. But I think this needs to be me. And you’ll be Uncle Bode.”

Bode said that when Jake told him that Gen was his daughter, it saved his life, because he was ready to die in prison. Jake gently but firmly (and correctly) pushed back on that assertion.

“I know you might think that, but before that your reason was Gabriela,” Jake said. “Before that, it was your folks. You went back to prison for Freddy. I don’t know, but Bode, you keep putting your reason for living on other people. And I don’t know if it’s because you don’t want to look at yourself, but you have to count on yourself.”

“That’s easy for you to say out there,” Bode groused.

“No. It isn’t,” Jake said. Because in case you forgot, I was counting on a future with Cara. But things change in an instant.”

And that was where their exchange meaningfully ended. They didn’t hug it out, and they didn’t agree.

Bode's much-needed attitude adjustment

Jake was totally correct in diagnosing Bode’s problem. Bode does not take responsibility for himself. He wants whatever he wants, and has trouble considering how other people feel or how his actions might affect them. He wants to be Gen’s dad, so it didn’t occur to him that maybe Jake would be a better fit, or to consider what Genevieve wants. He thinks he puts other people’s needs before his own, but he doesn’t. And considering his defensive reaction to Jake, he’s not quite ready to look at this character flaw.

But Jake didn’t back down. He didn’t soothe Bode’s wounded ego by telling him he’s a good guy and everything will be alright. He told him he needs to get over himself. Bode doesn’t really understand that other people aren’t just characters in his own story (they are in a meta sense—he’s the main character of Fire Country, after all—but in the world of the show, they are not). Hopefully Jake not giving him what he wants helps him realize that.

Fire Country airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ST on CBS. It’s available to stream on Paramount+.

What’s Wrong with Vince on ‘Fire Country'? Is He Sick?

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 9:00pm

After Sharon’s (Diane Farr) kidney issues from last season were fortunately resolved by the beginning of Fire Country Season 2, the first couple of Edgewater was finally happy and healthy. But now it’s Vince’s (Billy Burke) to have a secret malady.

In Season 2, Episode 7, “A Hail Mary,” Vince got electrocuted when a downed power line he thought was off suddenly turned back on. He was pulling an ax out of a truck tire when the power surged, and the current through the metal to his bare hand was so strong that it blew him backwards several yards through the air in a dramatic shower of sparks.

Related: 'Fire Country' Renewed for Season 3 on CBS

He really seemed like a goner, and he even stopped breathing for a bit. Newly minted paramedic Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) couldn’t bring him back, which made her very sad, but more experienced medics stepped in and took him to the hospital, where he was quickly on track for a full recovery.

Or is he?

What’s wrong with Vince on Fire Country?

In the final moments of the episode, Gabriela walked into his hospital room for a visit and saw him looking at his bandaged hand, which had a tremor.

“How long has it been like that?” she inquired.

“Not one word,” he growled. It was an order. He doesn’t want anyone to know about this.

While after-effects of electrocution is one likely explanation for what’s wrong with Vince, Gabriela’s question makes us wonder if something else is happening, too. Hopefully his tremor isn’t a sign of a long-term neurological condition.

Is Three Rock shutting down?

Elsewhere in the action-packed episode, Jake (Jordan Calloway) told Bode (Max Thieriot) that he was going to step up as Genevieve’s (Alix West Lefler) guardian, and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation handed down an order to close the Three Rock Con Camp.

The closure of Three Rock has been a threat hanging over the camp for awhile, and now it’s official. After the bad press of convicted killer Cole Rodman’s (Tye White) presence in camp and Rudy’s (Alex Désert) escape, pressure on the camp increased. It got so intense that there was a protest outside of the camp, with angry locals calling for the closure of Three Rock.

Related: Is 'Fire Country' Based on a True Story?

The protest broke out while a news crew was there doing a story on Three Rock, and it became an even bigger story when an out-of-control pickup truck whose brakes failed slammed through Three Rock’s new fence and knocked down the power line that later shocked Vince, injuring protestors along the way. Three Rock’s residents sprang into action and helped treat the wounded and get the situation under control.

The reporter’s story on Three Rock turned out to be a positive one, about how the residents of Three Rock saved the lives of the people who were protesting them. They’re men seeking redemption, and Three Rock is helping them find it.

But the news story was too little too late, as Luke (Michael Trucco), the regional communications officer, broke the news to Eve (Jules Latimer) that a devastating order came down from Sacramento. Not only was Three Rock closing, the entire inmate firefighter program was shutting down. Eve worked so hard to keep Three Rock viable, but the decision was ultimately beyond her control.

However, there is another Hail Mary in the works. Next week’s episode will feature a black tie gala where Station 42 and Three Rock will try to impress the governor (guest star Catherine Lough Haggquist) and save the camp. The episode’s title? “It’s Not Over.” Seems pointed!

Three Rock shutting down seems like a crisis that will be averted. But Vince’s mysterious medical condition could be a serious problem.

Fire Country airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. It’s available to stream on Paramount+.

KFC Fan-Favorite Menu Item in the Testing Phase—With a Twist

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 8:52pm

One of KFC’s fan-favorite menu items could be coming back to the U.S.—in fact, an updated version is already being tested at KFC locations in Nashville, Tenn.

Food blogger Snackolator described the revised menu item as a “souped-up sandwich wrap.” At KFC testing locations in Music City, it will be available to order in both classic and spicy flavors, according to Nation’s Restaurant News.

So what is this returning menu item? Many KFC fans will be pleased to learn that the classic KFC Twister has returned, albeit with a “twist” on the original recipe.

KFC is calling its updated version of the Twister the KFC Twister Wrap, according to Snackolator, who suggested the meal could be added to menus outside of Nashville by this summer or early fall if the testing process goes well.

The Twister Wrap has the same two-tender combination as the original and will come wrapped in a tortilla, according to AllRecipes. It also includes lettuce, tomato and a pepper mayonnaise sauce. The wraps are expected to appear on menus at $5.99 apiece.

The last time KFC offered its Twister on U.S. menus was a full decade ago. In the years that followed, fans grew so frustrated by their Twister lack that they even launched a petition on Change.org in an attempt to convince Yum! Brands, which oversees KFC, to bring it back to the U.S.

As the 2019 petition noted, the Twister was at that time available in “multiple different countries,” but not in the U.S.

“I've never met someone that has said ‘I hated the Twister wrap,’” the petitioner wrote. “Every time I bring it up, I get ‘I wish KFC still had that!’. We're trying to get it back to KFC, here in the USA!”

Livin' on a Prayer (and Millions of Dollars): Jon Bon Jovi's Net Worth in 2024

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 7:46pm

It was impossible to be alive in the '80s or '90s without having at least a small crush on music legend Jon Bon Jovi. The handsome rocker was (and still is!) a complete heartthrob who turned out iconic jam after iconic jam. (If your older sister didn’t cry along to "I’ll Be There for You" while holding her ex-boyfriend’s football jersey, you definitely aren’t Gen X.) But how much money did Bon Jovi's heartthrob status—and, of course, his massive music catalog—earn him over the years? Keep reading to find out Jon Bon Jovi's net worth and more.

How did Jon Bon Jovi get his start?

A New Jersey native to his core, Jon Bon Jovi (real name: Jon Bongiovi) spent his formative years playing in Asbury Park in several different bands, including Atlantic City Expressway, John Bongiovi and the Wild Ones and The Rest.

Everything changed in 1982, however, when he recorded “Runaway” with a session band and found himself with a radio hit on his hands. At that point, he assembled keyboardist David Bryan, bassist Alec John Such (who left the band in 1994 and died in 2022), drummer Tico Torres and, shortly after, guitarist Richie Sambora (who replaced initial guitarist Dave Sabo and also left the band in 2013) to form Bon Jovi in 1983.

The band's self-titled album (with its first single "Runaway") came out in January 1984, and a legendary rock band was born.

"If you’re not going to be great, the guy that’s coming in tomorrow night is going to be better," Bon Jovi said while promoting Hulu's four-part documentary about the band, Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, which started streaming April 26. "This isn’t a career that you should take lightly. There’s a million other young guys that are waiting to take your spot. And there are no guarantees in this business...You have to win hearts in order to win people’s hard-earned dollar. If you’re asking them to stay with you for four decades, that’s a task. You better be one of the greats or else good luck."

What is Jon Bon Jovi's net worth in 2024?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Bon Jovi is worth $410 million dollars. He made the bulk of his money through his entertainment empire, which controls all things Bon Jovi—the recordings, touring and merchandising.

One way he has not made his money? By selling the rights to his massive music catalog. "For some, it makes sense [to do so] because they need to," he told the Associated Press. "For some, it makes sense because they want to. I just find [Bon Jovi’s music] to be my baby, and I have no desire at this juncture in my life to ever even consider it."

What is Bon Jovi's biggest hit?

The band has had four No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 over the past 40 years, including "You Give Love a Bad Name" and "Livin' on a Prayer," both of which are from the (honestly perfect) 1986 album Slippery When Wet. If you’ve ever been to karaoke in your life, you know both of these songs by heart.

Their other two No. 1 tracks are "I'll Be There For You" and "Bad Medicine." Not too shabby!

What is Bon Jovi's most successful album?

The band's most successful album to date is still their third release, Slippery When Wet, from 1986, which sold more than 28 million copies worldwide.

Is Bon Jovi still making music?

Bon Jovi is still making music. In fact, the band has its 16th studio album, Forever, coming out on June 7, 2024. But a vocal cord injury recently threatened to knock Bon Jovi the singer out of the live-performance game.

Speaking to People, he recalled his wife Dorothea telling him his voice was off on his 2022 tour. A subsequent trip to the doctor revealed that one of his vocal cords was atrophying.

“This was unique. It wasn’t a nodule," he told the AP. "The strong [vocal cord] was pushing the weak one around, and suddenly, my inabilities were just exacerbated.” He underwent surgery and now, two years on, works with vocal coaches and does daily exercises as part of his recovery.

"Every day is sort of like doing curls with weights and just getting them [his vocal cords] both to be the same size and to function together," he told the outlet. "The process has been steady. Would I like it to be a light switch? Yeah. I said to the doctor, 'I want to flip the switch and be done with this.' It's just not how it works... I'm confident that it gets progressively better."

Where in New Jersey does Jon Bon Jovi own houses?

It appears that Jon Bon Jovi doesn’t currently own any homes in New Jersey. He’s a former resident of Rumson, New Jersey, where he had a home recording studio called Sanctuary Sound in the basement. He also previously owned a mansion in Middletown, New Jersey that he sold in 2020.

What other properties does Jon Bon Jovi own?

Jon Bon Jovi has owned some pretty incredible homes over the years. His former mansion in Middletown, New Jersey was a French Chateau-style estate that he listed for $20 million in 2020. It had everything from a private pub to a music studio, and it sat on 15 acres along the Navesink River.

In the same year, Bon Jovi upgraded to a stunning Mediterranean-style mansion in Palm Beach, Florida for a whopping $43 million. This luxurious pad, which he still owns, spans more than 10,000 square feet and features 7 bedrooms, 12 bathrooms, a courtyard pool and direct beach access. Yowza!

What sports teams does Jon Bon Jovi own?

Jon Bon Jovi was the founder and former majority owner of the Philadelphia Soul arena football team. However, he does not currently own any teams. Maybe one day!

Pat McAfee Sends a Stern Warning to Fans Who Booed Taylor Swift Name Drop

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 7:45pm

Pat McAfee had a stern warning for his audience on the second day of the 2024 NFL Draft when some of his listeners began booing in response to hearing Taylor Swift’s name mentioned on his show.

The sports analyst invited NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell onto The Pat McAfee Show on Friday, April 26, as football fans across the country kept tabs on the latest draft picks. While discussing efforts to keep the game clear of outside influences like gambling and other distractions, McAfee made a joke about the pop superstar who attended several NFL games last season in support of her boyfriend, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.

“If people think there’s an influence on the game other than the players on that field, we’re in trouble,” Goodell said before McAfee broke in.

“Well Taylor Swift, we know…” McAfee trailed off.

Goodell then responded, “Well, that’s a different kind of influence.” The commissioner then questioned the audience in apparent disbelief as many people began loudly booing the mention of the “Cruel Summer” singer’s name.

“Yeah, you can’t—you can’t boo,” McAfee scolded his listeners. He then warned them what repercussions they might face if they continued. “Yeah, you’re gonna be part of an album. Get a little louder. She is gonna cook you.”

— Pat McAfee (@PatMcAfeeShow) April 26, 2024

McAfee seemingly made his warning about the way that Swift often confronts the major events and people in her life through her lyrics. Swifties believe her latest album, The Tortured Poets Department, features songs that address her prior romances with actor Joe Alwyn and The 1975 frontman Matty Healy, in addition to her relationship with Kelce. Many of Swift’s fans also believe that two of her songs contend with her long-running feud with reality TV personality Kim Kardashian.

Outside of her music, Swift became a popular point of discussion during the 2023 NFL season due to how frequently she attended Chiefs games. She began going to games last fall, a move that served as her public confirmation that she was dating Kelce.

Though The New York Times conducted an analysis that found televised games only showed Swift an average of 25 seconds per game she attended as of late January, some fans of the sport were nevertheless frustrated by the new kind of attention that Swift’s presence brought to the sport.

Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager Explain Which Trend They Think Is ‘Cowardly’

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 6:32pm

Of all the dating trends that have come and gone over the years, Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager agree on what they view as downright “cowardly.”

The two Today with Hoda & Jenna co-hosts discussed dating trends a couple of times on their show this week. On Friday, April 26, they chatted about one new trend on the rise known increasingly as “bless and release"—n which a person who no longer wishes to continue dating someone is upfront with them about their real feelings before wishing them the best and moving on. The goal of this particular strategy is to end the dating scenario in a clear and relatively kind manner.

The rise of “bless and release” reminded Bush Hager and Kotb about another dating trend that has become a huge part of online dating. It’s a tendency among many people in the dating pool that they agree is less kind.

“For a while now, all the kids were getting ghosted,” Bush Hager said.

Related: Forget Ghosting: Houseplanting Is the Newest Dating Trend, Reviving How to Lose a Guys in 10 Days's Love Fern

“Because, you know, ghosting is sort of like the kind of cowardly way out,” Kotb responded. Bush Hager voiced her agreement before Kotb volunteered her understanding of “ghosting,” explaining, “You can’t say something, so you just like let it go, they’ll forget, it’ll be over, it’ll die on the vine.”

That “cowardly” dating tendency also came up during Kotb and Bush Hager’s April 25 on-air discussion with Vivica Fox. When Bush Hager mentioned the prevalence of online dating and asked Fox if she thought “ghosting” was “ever OK” to do, the actress and producer admitted she had ghosted someone before.

“It’s mean, to be honest with you,” Fox said. “But I have done it. I’m guilty as charged.”

In Fox’s case, she explained that she only did it “because I didn’t want to hurt their feelings.”

Tim McGraw's Daughter Gracie Poses in Tight Floral Corset and Lacy White Miniskirt

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 6:20pm

Fans are simply obsessed with Gracie McGraw's latest fashion moment.

The eldest daughter of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill took to social media this week to share a sultry new photo that appeared to have been taken in her living room.

The moody snap, uploaded to Instagram on Thursday, April 26, showed Gracie sitting on a black leather couch while wearing a tight floral corset top and a frilly lace white miniskirt.

The 26-year-old, rocking a blunt black haircut and giving a fierce look to the camera in the shot in the pic, also appeared to be wearing semi-sheer black tights up to her thighs.

It looked like she was cozying up to an eccentric leopard-print pillow shaped like a hand with red painted nails.

A post shared by GRACIE MCGRAW (@graciemcgra)

"Ummm HELLO," one of her followers exclaimed in the comments under the post, while another person labeled Gracie a "Queen" in the stunning snap.

Someone else even went as far as to name Gracie the "hottest human on earth."

"ARE YOU KIDDING," another person gushed.

Gracie also got some love from her sister, Audrey, who left a fire emoji "🔥" in the comment section.

Audrey, 22, is the youngest of Tim and Faith's three daughters. The longtime spouses are also parents to middle daughter, Maggie, 25, who recently celebrated a major career accomplishment.

As announced by her proud dad earlier this month, Maggie joined the board of directors at Alive, a nonprofit hospice care center based in Nashville, Tenn. Maggie already holds a master's degree in sustainability science and practice from Stanford University.

"So proud of our daughter Maggie!" the "Live Like You Were Dying" singer wrote in an Instagram Story last week while sharing the good news "Doing great stuff!"

Tim, 56, often posts about his daughters and how proud he is of them, especially when it comes to them showing off the musical skills that they certainly inherited from their famous parents!

Here's Every Survivor Contestant Who Has Died Since Competing

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 6:18pm

Since Survivor has been on the air, over 600 people from different walks of life have put themselves out in the wild and on our screens to compete in a cutthroat game of survival and strategy for a million-dollar prize. But in the 20+ years that the show has been on, the alumni community has not been immune from loss. Here are all the former Survivor contestants who have died so far.

Survivor deaths

Courtesy of CBS

Sonja Christopher

Sonja Christopher holds a special commendation in Survivor history. The musician is the oldest woman to ever play at 63 years old. And she holds the honor of being the very first person voted out of the game, sent out in the show's premiere episode due to stumbling during the opening challenge. But Sonja took hearing the then-new catchphrase "The tribe has spoken" to heart, showing her warmth and generosity when she serenaded Richard Hatch with a ukulele song called "Bye Bye Blues." Sonja passed away for undisclosed reasons on April 26, 2024.

Rudy Boesch (seasons 1 and 8) Rudy Boesch

Courtesy of CBS

Survivor's first season was a breakout hit in the summer of 2000, catapulting its cast of 16 into stardom. And perhaps chief among them was former Navy SEAL, Rudy Boesch. Rudy brought to the beaches of Borneo a lifetime of survival skills and a deadpan sense of humor. He got involved in the show's first-ever alliance and made an unlikely bond with eventual winner Richard Hatch, ultimately being the last person voted out of the season and finishing third overall. When Survivor produced its first All-Stars season four years later, Rudy was a lock, and to date is the oldest castaway to compete on the show. Rudy died at the age of 91 in a retirement community on Nov. 1, 2019, from complications associated with dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

B.B. Andersen (season 1) B.B. Andersen

Courtesy of CBS

B.B. Andersen was also a part of Survivor's iconic first season, though he did not fare as well as Rudy. The real estate developer found himself in a tribe of people who were mostly under half his age. His hard work ethic and abrasive personality did not fit in with the rest of his group, and he was voted out first of his tribe and second overall. B.B. died from brain cancer on Oct. 29, 2013.

Clay Jordan (season 5) Clay Jordan

Courtesy of CBS

Clay Jordan spent his time on Survivor's fifth season as part of the older Chuay Gahn tribe, which ran one of the most dominant games of the earlier seasons. He particularly formed a close relationship with Brian Heidik, who took him to the Final Two. Clay did well in the end, only losing by one vote to the used car salesman. Clay passed away from an undisclosed illness, after losing his wife to COVID earlier in 2022.

Roger Sexton (season 6) Roger Sexton

Courtesy of CBS

Roger Sexton was the oldest person on Survivor's sixth season, which memorably saw the tribes being divided by gender. While a hard worker around camp, Roger was abrasive with his fellow tribemates, oftentimes being considered bigoted and misogynistic. His reputation came back to bite him at the merge, when he was sent off with one of the show's most memorable and biting voting confessionals from fellow contestant Rob Cesternino. Roger died after a long battle with Lewy Body Dementia in October 2022.

Jenn Lyon (season 10) Jenn Lyon

Courtesy of CBS

Sadly, the Survivor community lost its first alumni on Jan. 19, 2010 in Jenn Lyon. Jenn spent her time in Survivor: Palau as part of the Koror tribe, one of the most dominant groups in the show's history. She finished in fourth, becoming the first-ever Survivor contestant to lose the now-typical fire-making challenge at the Final Four. Following her season, Jenn was diagnosed with breast cancer, and spent the remaining years of her life supporting causes around early education and awareness. After the cancer metastasized to the bone, she died shortly after attending a 10-year anniversary party for Survivor. A special that followed two weeks later, as well as the season 20 reunion special, had segments dedicated in her honor.

Angie Jakusz (season 10) Angie Jakusz

Courtesy of CBS

Angie Jakusz spent her turbulent dozen days in Survivor: Palau as part of the ill-fated Ulong tribe, attending Tribal Council in every episode. Despite being last picked for her tribe, she worked her way from the outside in when she was proven to be a strong challenge competitor. In November 2017, Angie was diagnosed with a rare form of squamous cell colorectal cancer. She eventually died from said cancer on Jan. 8, 2021.

Ashley Massaro (season 15) Ashley Massaro

Courtesy of CBS

Ashley Massaro came onto Survivor: China as a notable name, having spent a few years in the ring as part of the WWE. Unfortunately, she became sick in the game's opening days, and was the second voted off when the rest of her tribe felt she was too weak to continue. Ashley died by suicide at the age of 39 on May 16, 2019.

Dan Kay (season 17) Dan Kay

Courtesy of CBS

Dan Kay was a cast member on Survivor: Gabon, starting the game on the chaotic Fang tribe. He was eventually swapped over to the other group, where the majority alliance voted him off for fear of having found a hidden immunity idol on Exile Island in the early days. Dan passed away under unspecified circumstances on Dec. 31, 2016.

Dan Lembo (season 21) Dan Lembo

Courtesy of CBS

Survivor: Nicaragua separated its castaways by age, and holding it down for the older group was Dan Lembo. The New Yorker was a fish out of water on Survivor, to the point that he brought expensive alligator shoes into the game that were promptly ruined by another contestant. Dan made it all the way to fifth place in the season, showing a full range of emotions from a fury-filled memorable jury speech at the final Tribal Council to a surprisingly tender loved ones visit with his son. Dan passed away after battling progressive supranuclear palsy, an irreversible brain condition, in September 2022.

Ralph Kiser (season 22) Ralph Kiser

Courtesy of CBS

Farmer Ralph Kiser's personality shined in his 33 days on Survivor: Redemption Island. His quirky personality made him an early standout, and he became a key cog in an alliance that took out legendary villain Russell Hantz. Ralph was one of the final members of his alliance voted out, ultimately finishing ninth. He passed away on April 20, 2022 from a heart attack.

Caleb Bankston (season 27) Caleb Bankston

Courtesy of CBS

Survivor: Blood vs. Water changed the game as we knew it, pitting former contestants against their loved ones. Caleb Bankston came onto the show as the fiancé of season 24 contestant Colton Cumbie. And though Colton left early on, Caleb continued far into the game. His elimination even earned commending remarks from host and executive producer Jeff Probst. Caleb was killed on June 24, 2014 in a work-related accident while on a railroad site.

Cliff Robinson is one of the most noteworthy professional athletes to play Survivor, having spent 18 years in the NBA and earning a Sixth Man of the Year Award. He was placed on the Brawn tribe in Survivor: Cagayan and was immediately well-liked by his competitors. He ended up getting voted out fifth after a swap allowed his former tribe members to blindside him. Cliff died on August 29, 2020 from lymphoma.

Keith Nale (seasons 29 & 31) Keith Nale

Keith Nale popped immediately on Survivor: San Juan Del Sur. Though he started the game with his son Wes, he proved to be a character in his own right. After losing all of his allies (including Wes) in the postmerge, he became a surprising underdog and challenge beast, taken out in the last vote to finish in fourth place. It was no surprise he earned a spot to return on Survivor: Second Chances, where he continued to deliver in comical character moments like saying a cruise was more fun than playing the game, and driving a tuk-tuk (which he called a "to-to") on a reward. Keith was able to replicate his deep run a second time, making it to his second finale and finishing in fifth. Keith passed in April 2023 at the age of 62.

Sunday Burquest (season 33) Sunday Burquest

Courtesy of CBS

Sunday Burquest was proud to call herself a breast cancer survivor when playing on Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen X. She formed tight relationships as part of the Gen X tribe, and was able to navigate a chaotic postmerge and a tense rock draw to make it to seventh place. Unfortunately, cancer showed back up in Sunday's life after her time on the island, as she was diagnosed with esophageal and ovarian cancer in 2020. After an outpouring of support from her season 33 castmates in her battle, Sunday passed away on April 18, 2021.

Gua Sha Tools That Promise Botox-Like Effects Naturally Are Trending for Women Over 50—But Do They Work?

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 6:10pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Is it just us, or are celebrities gua sha'ing more than ever lately? It seems like everywhere we turn, there's another A-lister showing off their gua sha routine with the smooth-edged tool on Instagram, which has people of all ages wondering about its skin-enhancing, facial sculpting benefits.

Although it's become somewhat of a viral beauty trend lately, with women over 50 turning to the DIY treatment for its #naturalbotox-like effects, gua sha is by no means new. The traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) practice dates back to the ancient Ming Dynasty days between 1368 and 1644 and involves scraping the skin with a stone-like massaging tool for a more lifted, less puffy look.

When gua sha tools can be found for as little as $7 on Amazon, they seem like the non-invasive answer to tighter, taut skin as we get older and lose elasticity but they also beg the question: do they work? We asked a panel of celebrity dermatologists, leading estheticians and facialists to find out.

What Are Gua Sha Tools?

"Gua sha is a traditional Chinese healing technique used for lymphatic drainage, increasing circulation and sculpting," explains Jennifer Adell, a veteran skincare expert and senior esthetician at New Beauty and Wellness in Westport, Connecticut.

Although gua sha stones can be made of different materials such as bian, jade, nephrite jade or rose quartz, Adell notes the tools are meant to function the same way despite their various shapes and sizes. "Whichever stone you choose, you will follow the lymph pathways to focus on releasing muscle tension while also working with your body's lymphatic system to aid in the removal of toxins and fluid retention," she says.

Even supermodel Kendall Jenner gua sha'ed for Vogue recently, displaying her untraditional use of the tool where she uses it two different ways on her forehead to even out her eyebrow arches.

Jenner's gua sha practice may be a tad individualized for her face (and brows), but there's no denying the instantly lifted results these palm-sized gadgets produce—without needles or injections. Who doesn't want a more snatched visage, after all? Without resorting to Botox and other pricey fillers.

Is Gua Sha Good for Women Over 50?

Absolutely! Although gua sha's benefits can be particularly intriguing to anyone experiencing slack, sagging skin and looking for Botox alternatives in their 40s and 50s, its advantages aren't limited to a certain age group. (This is why you'll notice plenty of teens taking up the practice on TikTok as well.)

Just like cold plunging your face into a bowl of ice cubes à la Bella Hadid can offer a multitude of glow-boosting, inflammation-reducing perks, so can gua sha. In addition to detoxifying your skin after a big night out or a long flight, these tools also help to promote blood flow and increase circulation to the skin, according to board-certified dermatologist and cosmetic surgeon Kim Nichols, MD, FAAD.

"Gua sha also helps to de-puff the face, especially under the eyes and in the cheeks, for a more sculpted appearance and contributes to healthy skin with fewer lines and wrinkles," she says.

Do Gua Sha Tools Truly Deliver Botox-Like Effects?

"Gua sha can temporarily improve the appearance of fine lines on the face shortly after use," explains Dr. Nichols, "but this only lasts 24-48 hours." While she notes the stone cannot relax muscles the way an injected neuromodulator like Botox can, it is an excellent way to both maintain Botox results in between office visits and provide a temporary sculpted look to the face.

"Think of Botox as fast-acting while gua sha works slow and steady, giving us ample benefits like cell renewal and softer lines along the way," shares Adell. Like any skincare practice, consistency is key, however. She suggests gua sha'ing at least three times a week or more for a more chiseled, sculpted face.

And good news for anyone looking to combine the benefits of gua sha with Botox: Dr. Nichols says they're safe to do together. "At my practice, NicholsMD of Greenwich, many of our facial treatments include gua sha but I recommend my patients wait to get their facials or perform gua sha at home for about two weeks post injectable treatments," she explains.

How To Practice Gua Sha

A word to the wise: you don't want to gua sha on dry skin. Scraping a stone across a bone-dry face—even one that's supposed to be used as a facial massaging tool—can exacerbate fine lines and rosacea-prone patches rather than minimize them.

Instead, Dr. Nichols likes to start with clean cleansed skin, then apply a small amount of SkinCeuticals Phyto Corrective Masque or a lightweight cleansing oil to allow the gua sha stone to slide over the surface of the face. We love Tatcha's Pure One Step Camellia Oil Cleanser and Tata Harper's Nourishing Oil Cleanser for this.

Then, in very gentle strokes, she says to work upward and outward with the stone flat against your skin. "It's important to know the lymphatic system and the lymph nodes in the face and neck to do it properly," she warns. "The pressure of the stone on the skin needs to be very gentle to target the lymph and de-puff the skin; a lot of people use the side of the stone and use too much pressure, which is wrong."

To help you master gua sha on your first try, watch her master aesthetician Jessica's easy tutorial here:

A post shared by Kim Nichols (@nicholsmd_dermatology)

After gua sha, Dr. Nichols likes to apply a moisturizer or humectant. "It's also important to drink ample water post gua sha to help the lymph system flush, therefore amplifying the detoxifying effects," she adds.

Lastly, don't forget your neck! "Our neck is like a super highway when it comes to lymphatic drainage," says Adell. "We also hold a tremendous amount of tension in our neck and shoulders which blocks blood flow leading to stagnation in our faces."

Whether you choose to do this at the beginning or the end of your gua sha, Adell advises taking a few minutes to stretch your neck back and forth, up and down and around in circles. "This simple step will allow better blood flow, providing a huge release that will help improve your overall skin health."

Who Shouldn't Gua Sha

Although gua works wonders for *almost* everyone, Adell says there are a few exceptions to the rule, including anyone with an open wound, active acne or inflamed skin. Don't gua sha if this is you.

Rico also says to avoid hot tubs, swimming pools and saunas for the first 72 hours after a GS session. "This precaution is necessary because gua sha opens up the surface area of the body, potentially allowing pathogens to enter if not adequately protected," she explains, adding that pathogenic factors can lead to the recurrence of symptoms such as spasms and tightness.

Gua Sha Tools Recommended for Women Over 50

"So much of gua sha has to do with not only the technique but the stone as well," explains Dr. Nichols. "A lot of people think they can use a cheap stone, but the stone itself matters."

As for our experts' go-to gua sha tools, these are at the top of the list.

1. Nephrite Jade Gua Sha, $59 Lanshin Intro Nephrite Gua Sha

The Detox Market

Regarding the best gua sha stones to purchase, Dr. Nichols and Adell agree that a nephrite jade gua sha stone is #1 because of its healing and anti-aging properties.

In general, nephrite jade gua shas tend to be on the pricier side, since these precious stones are composed of iron, calcium and magnesium and give off far-infrared heat which boosts blood circulation, but Adell says Cecily Braden's Nephrite Jade Stone ($140) is worth every cent and her most used tool. "The craftsmanship is beautiful, it fits perfectly into the hands and effortlessly contours the natural geography of the face," she says. Dr. Nichols also loves its comb-like end that can get into the hairline for scalp stimulation.

For an affordable dupe under $100, consider Lanshin's Intro Nephrite Gua Sha ($59), pictured above. Made of good quality nephrite jade, this stone has all the right shapes and notches to release tight muscles and fascia, decongest your skin and even improve the appearance of acne.

2. Bian Stone Gua Sha, $69 Wildling Empress Stone

Wildling

"Wildling's Gua Sha ($69) is also amazing," shares Adell, noting that it's easy to hold, lends itself to all the contours of the face and the bian stone is made of 40 minerals. "One of the sides has teeth which I appreciate for more targeted work," she adds.

3. Rose Quartz Gua Sha, $65 Knesko Rose Quartz Heart Gua Sha

Knesko

"My preferred tool is Knesko's Rose Quartz Heart Gua Sha," shares Natalia Rico, an esthetician at The Ritz-Carlton Spa New York, NoMad in New York City. "Its unique design is tailored to enhance the skin's appearance by boosting circulation, stimulating lymphatic drainage and relieving muscle tension through gentle scraping motions."

Plus, there's no arguing that the rose quartz gua shas are some of the prettiest out there. The fact that this one is reiki-charged and handcrafted with fair-trade, AA-grade rose quartz is a bonus.

4. Stainless Steel Gua Sha, $30 Sacheu Stainless Steel Gua Sha

Sacheu

While the pros often prefer gua sha stones for their additional healing powers, Adell admits a great gua sha for beginners is a stainless steel tool with anti-bacterial benefits, that's budget-friendly to boot. "This non-porous stainless steel option from Sacheu checks all the boxes," she says.

Other Skincare Tools to Help Women Over 50

Now that you have the basics of gua sha down pat, it's time to turn your attention to a host of other devices designed with great skin in mind.

1. LED Light Therapy MMSphere2Go

MMSkincare

LED devices are right up there with gua sha tools are far as skincare must-haves to invest in, but much like the stones, there are endless options at all different price points and it's hard to know what's best—without help.

That's why we put our trust in light-emitting diode devices designed by the experts themselves, like board-certified NYC dermatologist Dr. Ellen Marmur's MMSphere2Go ($395). Boasting all five essential LED colors, including blue for hormonal acne, red for collagen stimulation, green for sun damage, amber for a radiant glow and purple for combined benefits, this portable powerhouse is a must-have for women over 50.

It's also backed by clinical studies showing its ability to reverse skin age by up to four years, regardless of tone—and it can encourage hair growth when angled towards the scalp. Name another device that can do all that...we'll wait.

2. Microcurrent Technology MyoLift QT Plus Facial Toning Device

7E Wellness

As we get older our levels of natural collagen production start to decrease, which is where devices that help stimulate collagen production come in handy. While you’re binge-watching your favorite show on Netflix, you could be treating your problem areas with a microcurrent facial toning device that delivers electrical impulses to mimic your body’s natural current.

A few minutes a day with 7e Wellness’ MyoLift QT Plus Facial Toning Device ($329) can improve your circulation, repair tissue damage and increase collagen production but it can also make bunny lines between the eyes and crow's feet less visible at the same time.

Another reason to add to cart? The QT Plus app uses micro-current technology along with AI to recommend tutorials and guidelines tailored to your skin type.

3. A Neck and Chest Rejuvenating Mask Solawave Neck + Chest Rejuvenating Mask

Solawave

If you've ever heard the saying, "Everything you do to your face you should do to your neck," we're here to remind you that this is even more important as we age. The tech neck struggle may be real but luckily there are ways to treat it.

Case in point: Solawave's Neck + Chest Rejuvenating Mask ($299) combines red and near-infrared light therapies to target areas where the effects of elasticity loss and sun exposure show up most—your neck and chest. All you need is 10 minutes a day to say see ya to sun spots, decolletage creases and hyperpigmentation.

The #1 Unexpected Sign of Seasonal Allergies Most People Miss, According to Allergists

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 5:25pm

Chances are, if you have seasonal allergies, you know it: Your eyes may get puffy, itchy and dry (or watery); you may sneeze relentlessly; your throat may be sore or scratchy, your nose may be itchy, runny or stuffy (or, if you really hit the jackpot, all three simultaneously). It's not fun, and it can make some of us root for nuclear winter (or at least look up Antarctic real estate) for a sense of relief.

That said, even if you don't experience those specific miseries, you may still have seasonal allergies and not even know it—because some symptoms are really sneaky.

Related: Severe Allergy Symptoms You Shouldn't Ignore

What Is the Most Unexpected Sign of Seasonal Allergies?

This one was surprising, even to some of us who've been sniffling since March: sometimes your mouth will itch when your mouth itches when you eat certain foods during allergy season, which is also known as oral allergy syndrome, according to Dr. Martin Smith, MD, allergist and immunologist and founder of Untoxicated Skincare.

"If you have seasonal allergies, especially to birch tree pollen, you may experience a strange itchy sensation when you eat certain fresh fruits and vegetables. It's called oral allergy syndrome, and it happens as your body confuses the proteins in these foods to be that of the proteins found in the pollen you are allergic to," Dr. Smith explains. "It is a very mild form of food allergy, usually limited to itching and mild swelling of the mouth, lips, tongue and throat."

According to Dr. Smith, the foods that most commonly trigger oral allergy syndrome include:

  • Apples
  • Apricots
  • Celery
  • Kiwi
  • Melon
  • Onions
  • Parsley
  • Peaches
  • Pears

Other pitted fruits and some other vegetables may also trigger reactions, and it can vary from patient to patient, so you may want to keep a log of what you eat and how you feel afterward just in case.

How to get around oral allergy syndrome? Thankfully, it's not too hard, Dr. Smith says, so there's no need to massively overhaul your diet this summer.

"A quick hack to avoid this is by peeling the fruit, or heating it in the microwave for a few seconds, as heat often destroys the protein responsible for the reaction," he recommends.

What Are Other Overlooked Seasonal Allergy Symptoms?

According to allergist and immunologist Dr. Brian Greenberg, MD, other reactions to seasonal allergies that may fly under the radar include:

  • Allergic shiners (which can look like black eyes in more severe cases or plain dark circles in milder cases)
  • Brain fog
  • Exhaustion
  • Poor sleep

"Many people will confuse this with a cold and then make treatment decisions that might not be quite as effective as it would be if they knew it was allergic," Dr. Greenberg says.

Related: How to Get Rid of Spring Allergies Fast

How Can You Mitigate Seasonal Allergy Symptoms?

There are a few methods you can use to ease your symptoms during allergy season, and you can prevent them as well if you put the work in, Dr. Smith and Dr. Greenberg note. They recommend:

  • Investing in an air purifier for your home (especially for your bedroom)
  • Using allergy-proof mattress and pillow covers
  • Vacuuming and dusting your bedroom frequently
  • Keeping your windows closed
  • Keeping your air conditioning running during high pollen periods, which can help filter the air
  • Using a nasal steroid for a few weeks before allergy season starts and routinely thereafter
  • Using a saline nasal rinse
  • Using a nasal antihistamine
  • Using eye drops for itchy, red, or watery eyes
  • Trying over-the-counter oral antihistamines like Allegra, Claritin or Zyrtec over Benadryl, the latter of which can make you way too drowsy
  • Trying over-the-counter decongestants like Allegra-D, Claritin-D, or Zyrtec-D

Dr. Smith also advises that if you get allergies during the summer and not just spring, you may have a grass pollen allergy, in which case you may want to have someone else mow your lawn for you (and keep your windows closed when they do). For grass pollen allergies, he also recommends staying inside in the mornings or when it's windy, as that's when grass pollen is most likely to affect you.

Related: How to Get Allergens Out of Your Home for Good

If nothing helps, don't suffer alone—talk to a doctor, especially if you have asthma, which seasonal allergies can exacerbate and trigger.

"Usually people who end up in my office have tried all the over-the-counter options, and are still miserable. We then start discussing allergy shots," Dr. Smith notes. "Allergy shots are when we inject a minute dose of your allergens just under the skin, which then gradually desensitizes you to your allergens. It is very effective, though for best results, we recommend people complete a five-year course."

If that sounds daunting (or if you're a big baby like me and hate needles as much as or more than blowing your nose whenever anything flowers), there are other options, though you may have to pay for them out of pocket.

"There is a newer and faster type of allergy shots called intralymphatic immunotherapy, that some allergists offer, though it is not covered by insurance yet," Dr. Smith says. "It requires only three allergen injections, spaced over three months. These are injected into a lymph node in your groin, and after the three shots most people are basically cured from their allergies."

Robert Irwin Shares Exciting Development: ‘Is the World Ready for Two Robert Irwins?’

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 5:17pm

Robert Irwin has posed an intriguing question to his fans: Is the world prepared to have two of him around?

The query came as part of the conservationist’s announcement that he is in the process of getting the Madame Tussauds treatment.

As Irwin revealed, he is becoming “the youngest ever Australian” to have a wax figure made in their likeness for inclusion in Madame Tussauds’ Sydney location.

“My sitting is complete, they’ve got my dimensions, and now the Madame Tussaud’s experts are hard at work creating me in wax,” Irwin wrote on a Friday, April 26 Instagram post. “The countdown is on…But, is the world ready for two Robert Irwins?? 😂”

Madame Tussauds Sydney also teased its newest wax figure project on social media, writing earlier this week on Instagram, “Crikey! It's a Robert Irwin wax figure.” While sharing some behind-the-scenes footage from Irwin’s sitting, the wax museum said it is “so excited to welcome Robert into the Madame Tussauds Sydney family.”

A post shared by Robert Irwin (@robertirwinphotography)

In the footage , which Irwin also shared on Instagram, the 20-year-old posed while holding a camera and staying still for head and teeth measurements. He also plunged his palm into a liquid green substance, presumably so that molds of his hands could be made, and waited as the museum’s artists color-matched his skin tone and eye color.

Many of Irwin’s fans left comments on his post to share in his excitement for the forthcoming wax statue.

“The world could definitely use an extra Irwin,” one person wrote on Instagram as another agreed, writing, “The more Robert Irwins, the better (and merrier)!”

“I think the world would be better if we could have 100 of you,” another fan said.

Others couldn’t help but offer humorous suggestions for what the sculptors should add to his wax twin, how it might be used and what the final statue should be called.

“Are they gonna add some type of creature on your shoulder? Cuz that’d be cool, like an iguana or somethin,” one fan suggested.

“Can we call them the Robert IrTwins?” another fan joked.

“Imagine all the pranks you could pull…” one person slyly hinted.

Kelly Ripa was seeing red at her latest public appearance.

The daytime talk show host was among the attendees at the 2024 TIME 100 Gala in New York City on Thursday, April 25, where she stepped out wearing a daring gown in a striking shade of red.

Before hitting the red carpet, Ripa, 53, captured a snapshot of her attire for the evening while posing for a selfie with husband Mark Consuelos, who was also dressed to the nines in a spiffy classic suit.

In the pic shared to Ripa's Instagram page on Thursday, the couple posed while Consuelos, 53, lovingly wrapped his arm around his wife's waist.

Her dogs were also in the photo, though Ripa said the pooches were "not impressed" with her glamorous attire.

Amazon Delivery Driver Thrills Swifties as He’s Caught on Camera Singing Taylor Swift Song: ‘Give This Man a Raise’

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 5:01pm

On April 19, Taylor Swift dropped her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Department, and seemingly overnight, fans learned the lyrics and started singing along. This included an Amazon Prime delivery driver—who was caught on camera by a Ring doorbell belting out one of Swift's new songs.

TikTok user @suzannejhart posted a clip of her delivery guy singing "Guilty as Sin" as he dropped off a package and returned to his truck. Notably, the driver belted out the lyrics, "What if he's written 'mine' on my upper thigh / Only in my mind?"

"@Amazon give this man a raise," Suzanne captioned her video, also noting in overlain text, "Turns out my Amazon guy is a swiftie!"

As of writing, the video has attracted more than 553,000 views since Thursday, April 25. And Swifties can't get enough, judging by the comments.

"He actually slayed that melody," one TikTok user declared while another person echoed, "The vocals???? Hello????"

Someone else joked, "Delivering packages and vocals," while many other TikTok users tagged Amazon, demanding a raise for the delivery driver.

Another TikTok user declared, "The fact that he ain't even trying to be quiet 😅 green flags all around, and another shared, "THIS MADE MY ENTIRE DAY😭❤️❤️❤️❤️."

Meanwhile, a TikTok user with the handle @zealandiosua_ wrote, "Hey that's me hehehe."

Another video on Zealand's account showed him doing the chair choreography Swift performs during "Vigilante S---" for her Eras Tour concerts—solidifying his Swiftie status. "Consider this my audition to be one of @taylorswift’s backup dancers," he captioned the clip.

For Zealand's sake, hopefully Amazon—and who knows, maybe even Swift herself—catches wind of his viral video and rewards him accordingly for his quality service/highly entertaining performance.

See Serenity Arce's Heartbreaking 'The Voice' Playoffs Performance of a Selena Gomez Song

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 4:35pm

The second night of The Voice Season 25 Playoffs will take place on Monday night with Chance the Rapper and Reba McEntire’s teams competing to make it into the Live Shows.

Each team at this point has five contestants, but will be whittled down to three, so two singers will be going home from each team.

In this early release video, Team Chance’s 16-year-old Serenity Arce from Jupiter, FL, performs Selena Gomez's "Lose You To Love Me."

The critiques started with Team Dan + Shay’s Shay Mooney. He told Serenity, “I don’t know who hurt you but my goodness. Dan and I will volunteer to go find whoever it was. You have a very unique gift to tell a story and to put yourself in that song. You’re 16, right? That’s ridiculous.”

Dan Smyers said, “You sing and perform with so much conviction and that takes a lifetime for some people to pick up, so you’ve got a good one on your hands, Chance.”

“We see the hurt in your eyes, we see the angst in your eyes,” John Legend told her. “That’s what you have to do in this moment. You have to make an emphatic statement on your own behalf, and it was right on time.”

Then it was Reba’s turn. She said, “If you had a little book that said how to make it to the finals, you checked off every box. Enunciation, poise, and attitude. When you gave us that look, you were serious and you definitely need to go to the Lives. She’s good.”

Finally, Chance weighed in on his artist. He said, “You come in killer every week. There were some big moments in the song that you went for or created yourself. You emotion, your intentionality on lyrics, people notice and people feel. It’s going to be a tough decision that I make at the end, but you very much deserve to be in the Lives.”

Tune into The Voice on Monday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC to find out which three artists Chance puts through.

The Voice streams next day on Peacock.

I’m a Food Editor and These Are the 8 New Items I’m Willing to Spend My Money on This Spring

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 4:30pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

For many people, spring is the season that really means the most out of the year. Think about it: the flowers are blooming, the sun stays around a little longer and the weather is as close to perfect as we could possibly get. But just like new weather, leaves and breezes that get ushered in during the season, new products come rolling in, too.

To be honest, spring is one of my favorite times to see brands do their thing. In my opinion, it's like the preview before the main show (with summer being the time that they pull out all the big stops) and it gets me thinking about all of the things I'll need to keep handy to have an enjoyable time outside. From drinks and drinkware to coolers and bathing suits, spring is the season to start deciding what deserves a spot on your must-have list for summer.

To help you get there a little faster this year, I've compiled my list of the hottest new items that I (a proud cheapskate) would be willing to spend my hard-earned cash on. And trust me, they're worth your coins, too.

Sprite Chill, $5.49 at Kroger Sprite Chill

Sprite

It may seem like there's no shortage of new products dropping from popular brands, but if there's one icon that's not afraid of testing the waters often, it's Sprite. But what's so special about this new cherry lime-flavored drink, you ask? Well, aside from its stellar taste, the drink also comes equipped with a cooling sensation that makes you "chill" out after every sip. And if you ask me, it's the carbonated drink that you'll want to try at least once this season (and if you mix it into a tasty tipple, I definitely won't judge you!).

Target Is Selling $28 'Perfect Pants for Spring' So Similar to an Anthropologie Style Over 5x the Price

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 4:10pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

Different jean washes are great, but what about fun colors? Especially as we head into spring and summer, jeans in bright or unique colors are fun items to base an outfit on. And even if they’re a regular jean color, if you have wide–leg or palazzo-style pants, you can have just as much fun. Luckily, Target has two new jeans that not only fit both of those stand-out requirements but also look like a much more expensive version at Anthropologie.

One of these pants—Women's High-Rise Sailor Wide Leg Ankle Jeans—are from Target’s women’s clothing brand and currently $28. Even though they’re called “sailor” jeans, they’re pretty standard high-rise wide-leg jeans with a slight crop. They’re made with a cotton denim fabric that has a bit of stretch. Most are made with 99% cotton and 1% spandex to achieve this, while the gray wash has 20% polyester in the mix.

Women's High-Rise Sailor Wide Leg Ankle Jeans - Universal Thread, $28 at Target

Target

They originally came in eight colors, but the navy is currently sold out. The other colors—black, cream, gray wash, khaki, olive green, pink and white—come in sizes ranging from 00 to 30. And people are obsessed with these particular pants. One user wrote, "Perfect pants for spring" in their review and another wrote that they are a “flattering fit” and “a perfect spring/summer cut.”

"I own these pants in pink, beige, and now black!” they gushed in their review. “Women at the office went nuts the first time I wore them and rushed out to get a pair."

Another person wrote that people should, “Get these pants."

"Absolutely love these pants, they have a great fit, lay wonderfully on the body," they also wrote.

Women's High-Rise Wide Leg Jeans - Universal Thread, $36 at Target

Target

Another similar style is Universal Thread’s Women's High-Rise Wide Leg Jeans. They’re a bit more expensive at $36 and they come in four washes: black wash, light wash, medium wash and white. They’re also made with a stretchy cotton fabric that has five pockets. These are also full-length. One reviewer wrote that they, “Absolutely love these jeans!”

“...They fit [perfectly]!” they finished. “Bought all the other colors!"

A running theme here seems to be that you might love them so much you’ll want more than one pair. As the popular shopping Instagram account, @best.of.target, posted, these two jeans are “Anthropologie lookalikes caught at Target.”

“Guys this is a need for anyone looking for a jean that’s just a little higher-end looking [...]!! Getting them [all].”

Good American Good Waist Palazzo Crop Wide-Leg Jeans, $149 at Anthropologie

Anthropologie

And they do make a good point. Anthropologie sells a similar style of jeans with the Good American Good Waist Palazzo Crop Wide-Leg Jeans ($149). These might feel closer to the gray wash in the sailor jeans because they’re made with 69% cotton, 30% lyocell and 1% elastane fabric. Anthro also sells The Colette Cropped Wide-Leg Pants by Maeve ($120) among other palazzo-style, wide-leg pants.

Target continues to make high-end-looking items for an affordable price, and Universal Thread’s Women's High-Rise Sailor Wide Leg Ankle Jeans are no different. And with their 287 reviews and 4-star rating, more colors and sizes might start selling out soon.

Prince William Honors Kate Middleton With Sweet Sentiment During One of Few Royal Visits Since Cancer News

Fri, 04/26/2024 - 4:03pm

Prince William shared a sweet message about Kate Middleton while on a recent royal outing as he recognized that his wife would have liked nothing more than to have been able to join him.

It’s been more than a month since the Princess of Wales revealed her battle with cancer. In the weeks that have followed, the Prince of Wales has only been spotted on rare occasions, though he does appear to be venturing out in public more now than he was in the immediate aftermath of Kate’s March 22 announcement.

On Thurs., April 25, William, 41, made a royal visit to three locations in the West Midlands so that he could learn more about local efforts to support mental health and help those impacted by homelessness or addiction.

Related: Prince William Reacts to 'Kind' Gesture During First Royal Engagement Since Kate Middleton’s Cancer News

William’s first stop was at St. Michael's Church of England High School, an education facility in Sandwell that embraces student-led mental health initiatives. A 12-year-old student named Freddie Hadley invited the prince to visit the school last fall, according to Buckingham Palace, and William later made arrangements to chat with students there as part of his April 25 royal outing.

In a video that Kensington Palace shared on X, the prince thanked Hadley for extending an invitation to visit the school. Hadley also appeared in the video to explain that his letter was about “inviting Prince William to one of our events so he could see what we do inside our school around male mental health.”

During his visit, Prince William told a school staff member that he regretted his wife hadn’t been able to accompany him, according to The Daily Mail. “I am sorry Catherine can't be here as well,” the prince was quoted as saying. “She would have loved to.”

Kate stepped back from her public royal duties earlier this year when she underwent a planned abdominal surgery in mid-January. She explained last month in a video message that tests conducted after her operation revealed the “huge shock” that “cancer had been present.” The princess said she had already started a preventative chemotherapy treatment upon the recommendation of her medical team, and while she was looking forward to returning to her work “when I’m able,” she needed to first “focus on making a full recovery.”
