The fashion brand and The Dogist, the popular dog photography platform founded by photographer, creator, entrepreneur and New York Times bestselling author Elias Weiss Friedman, have introduced Maison du Chien, a collection of accessories and apparel for dogs and their owners.

The collection includes collars, leashes, bags, bandanas, and clothing, offering options for pet parents who want to coordinate their everyday essentials with their love of dogs. Prices range from $45 for a dog bandana to $375 for the Grande Fanny bag with an adjustable webbing strap.

Among the standout pieces are the Elsa Collar, available in patterns including chocolate-and-cream checkerboard, and the coordinating Elsa Leash, which retails for $65 and $95, respectively. The collection also features the Poche Sportif, a crossbody accessory made from vegetable-tanned leather with an adjustable strap and a zippered pouch designed to hold two rolls of dog waste bags. Other accessories include the red and blue Le Box Tote Sportif, priced at $295 and made for traveling with your dog, and paw and bone-shaped keychains, each retailing for $85.

For dog owners who want to show off their affection for their pets beyond their daily walks, the collection also includes apparel such as brightly-colored sweatshirts, hoodies, and hats.

The collaboration, which debuted October 15, also supports a charitable cause. Ten percent of every purchase from the Maison du Chien collection will be donated to The Dogist Fund, a nonprofit founded by Weiss Friedman that is dedicated to improving the lives of dogs in need and the people who need them most.

Bryant told Vogue that the chance to hit the runway was “an incredible opportunity” she couldn’t say no to. Still, the opportunity left her extremely nervous.

“I’m so grateful to Donatella [Versace] and am honored that she has invited me to be a part of something so special,” she told the publication. “She was just so welcoming and sweet and made me feel so comfortable, especially with it being my first runway. Meeting her definitely helped settle any nerves.”

This year, Natalia was a staple of the Paris Fashion Week shows as an observer. She hit the Stella McCartney show in a stunning black silk top and pants, making it clear that she’s all grown up and ready to take the fashion world by storm.

Witney Carson got sent home from Dancing With the Stars this week.

She got a Dior bag on the way out.

The pregnant pro, 32, made a surprise appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday, Oct. 14, and danced one last time with her partner, Guillermo Rodriguez, spinning him and Jimmy Kimmel around the studio. Backstage, she posted a mirror selfie to her Instagram Stories. In it, she’s holding a small, baby-blue quilted purse by Dior.

“Gift from Guillermo and fam why is he the sweetest!” she wrote over the picture.

They Went Home After Their Best Score

Rodriguez, 55, is Kimmel’s longtime sidekick, and he and Carson kept landing near the bottom. “Every week, Guillermo and I have been put in the bottom three,” she said in a TikTok on Sept. 30.

Then came Week 5. On Super Bowl Night, Tuesday, Oct. 13, their Salsa to Bad Bunny’s “Tití Me Preguntó” earned 22 out of 40, their highest score of the season. The week before, their dance had pulled more than triple the YouTube views of the next couple’s, according to a chart Kimmel showed on his show.

They landed in the bottom two with Tyler Cameron and Sharna Burgess.

They went home anyway.

“First of all, this is an outrage,” Kimmel told them on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that night. “Will you accept the results or will you take legal action?”

“I think we should take legal action,” Rodriguez joked. Carson didn’t miss a beat. “Absolutely. I’m ready.”

Kimmel also gave her the credit. “You have taken this lump of Play-Doh and you sculpted him into a masterpiece,” he said.

Rodriguez already knew how he’d celebrate. Carson had a no-drinking rule for him during the competition, so he said he was going to “go and make me a margarita.”

She Did the Whole Season Pregnant

The pro announced in mid-August that she’s expecting her third baby, a boy, with her husband, Carson McAllister. They already have two sons, Leo, 5, and Jet, 3. She started the season four months along.

“I’ve never been this far along pregnant and competing on ‘Dancing With the Stars,’ ever,” she said at the time.

In that Sept. 30 TikTok, she also shut down fans who guessed she wanted to be voted off. “I am truly so grateful to continue on in this competition week after week with Guillermo because he really deserves it,” she said. “Anytime I’m resting in rehearsals, he’s practicing.”

Now that it’s over, she says they’re at peace with it. “Both Guillermo and I were very content with the results,” she said Wednesday night at Selena Gomez‘s Rare Impact Fund benefit. “We were both really tired and we were like, ‘Maybe this is the God and the universe telling us you need to take a break now.'”

She’s proud of what she pulled off, too. “It was scary every single week to have your body change and get bigger,” she said. “I’m so proud of myself.”

She’s won the Mirrorball twice, with Alfonso Ribeiro in 2014 and Robert Irwin last November.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are on the brink of elimination from the postseason, and star third baseman Max Muncy isn’t sugarcoating his team’s struggles.

Following the Dodgers’ 6-2 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 3 of the National League Championship Series on Wednesday, October 14, Muncy offered a blunt assessment of why his team is suddenly facing a season-ending scenario.

“It’s a pretty simple answer. We’re playing like s—. They’re playing great. As simple as that,” Muncy, 36, told reporters in the Dodgers’ locker room after the game.

The loss put Los Angeles in a 3-0 hole in the best-of-seven series, leaving the two-time defending World Series champions with little room for error as they fight to keep their postseason hopes alive.

Muncy, who joined the Dodgers in 2017, acknowledged that the team had set ambitious goals at the beginning of the season and would need to deliver something extraordinary to achieve them.

“We set out to do something historic,” Muncy said. “Looks like we’re going to have to make a little more history along the way if we want to accomplish that, and that’s the task ahead of us.”

Despite the disappointing series, Muncy said he believes the Dodgers have the talent to turn things around. The immediate priority, however, is getting their offense back on track.

The third baseman said his teammates “just gotta start getting some hits” and emphasized the importance of being prepared to compete when the next game begins.

“We have the staff to be able to accomplish this thing,” he told reporters. “You just gotta show up and be ready to play.”

The Dodgers must win Game 4 on Thursday, October 15, to avoid elimination. The matchup is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET, with Milwaukee looking to close out the series and Los Angeles fighting to keep its championship hopes alive.

Although J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings trilogy of books was published in the 1950s, Peter Jackson’s very popular movie trilogy based on the novels is celebrating a much younger—but still very momentous—birthday. Since Brian De Palma turned Carrie into a horror classic in 1976, filmmakers have spent half a century trying to get Stephen King right on screen. Now King has named the one he believes does it best, and he is hinting that their work together isn’t finished.

In a video posted to X, the 79-year-old author sat on the couch with his dog and told fans, “Molly and I are watching Carrie on Amazon Prime TV.” He asked viewers to tune in too. The new series was directed by Mike Flanagan, he explained, and Flanagan is “the best adapter of my work.” It wasn’t his first endorsement. About a month before the premiere, King posted on Threads that Flanagan’s version of Carrie was brilliant.

He dropped a huge hint. If enough people watch, King said, he and Flanagan might be doing “something else that’s… really special.” He did not say what that project is, and no new collaboration has been announced.

The two have a fairly deep history. Carrie is Flanagan’s fourth King adaptation, following Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep and The Life of Chuck, which won the People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival. King also executive produced the series alongside Flanagan and producer Trevor Macy. The eight-episode reimagining of King’s 1974 debut novel stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White and Samantha Sloyan as her mother, Margaret.

One possibility is more Carrie. Flanagan’s version lets Carrie White survive prom night, and he has said his ideal plan would be a three-season run. The finale leaves room for that story to continue. Prime Video has not announced a second season.

The other theory is the one King fans have waited years to see. Flanagan has long described The Dark Tower, King’s sprawling fantasy saga, as his “Holy Grail” of a project. He has envisioned it as five seasons followed by two stand-alone films. Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, he said the series is still “very much on the table” at Amazon, though doing it his way requires a huge studio commitment. He said the rights alone take more than a calendar year to sort out, because characters from the books are spread across many studios. He has also said Amazon had Carrie in mind soon after he joined the company.

The new series already has a hint at that world. The series references LaMerk, a metalworks company tied to the Crimson King, the main villain of The Dark Tower books. Flanagan also has a new take on The Mist, another King story, in development.

For now, King’s tease ties what comes next to how many viewers show up for Carrie. All eight episodes are streaming on Prime Video.

Carlin Bates got a pregnancy test as a joke gift.

It came back positive.

The Bringing Up Bates star, 28, is expecting her fourth baby with her husband, Evan Stewart, a rep for the couple confirmed on Thursday, Oct. 15. The baby is due in May.

It’ll join big sister Layla Rae, 6, big brother Zade Patrick, 4, and big sister Navy Kate, who’s only 13 months old.

The Gag Gift That Wasn’t a Gag

“Evan and I did a couples challenge gift exchange we saw on social media, and as a joke, he bought me a pregnancy test,” Carlin said. “Later that day, I took the test for fun with our 1-year-old, and I was SHOCKED it was positive!”

She usually likes to plan something cute to tell Evan. Not this time. “I was so surprised I immediately told him,” she said. “We just stood there staring at the test, trying to process what we were seeing.”

It’ll be the first time they’ve had two kids under 2. “We thought three kids had us outnumbered, but I’m thinking four is a whole new level!” she joked.

They haven’t decided whether to find out if it’s a boy or a girl. They found out with two of their kids and waited with Navy Kate, who Carlin calls their “tiebreaker.” If they do find out this time, she said, it’ll be “around the 20-week mark.”

The Bates Family Has Had a Big Year

Carlin is one of Gil and Kelly Jo Bates‘ 19 kids, and her siblings have kept the family busy in 2026. Her sister Tori welcomed her sixth baby, a son, on Feb. 28. Her brother Zach and his wife, Whitney, welcomed their sixth, a daughter, in April.

Now Carlin’s on No. 4.

“What makes me laugh is that this is somewhere in the late 40s for grandbabies for my parents,” she said, “and somehow, they’re still shocked and just as excited every single time.”

The news comes a few weeks after a scare for the family. Gil had a heart attack in late September, days after his son Warden’s vow renewal, and doctors put in two stents. In an Oct. 9 update, the family wrote that he’s “a trooper & is feeling great!”

Bringing Up Bates ran for 10 seasons on UPtv, and the network scrapped a planned 11th season in January 2022. The show’s own Instagram account hasn’t posted since that month, so these days the family shares its news on their own Instagram pages.

They recently moved, too. “We recently moved into our dream home and have so much more room now,” she said, “so it feels really special knowing we already have the space to fill it with another little blessing.”

The late 2000s brought some of the darkest and grittiest thrillers, and Zodiac was one of them. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., and Mark Ruffalo, the flick brought the 1970s to life with hidden CGI.

It told the story of the infamous Zodiac Killer, and while audiences had mixed reviews, critics loved it. With a 90% Rotten Tomatoes score, it is rated Certified Fresh, with them calling it “ingenious,” “masterful,” and “unbeatable.”

It’s recently come up again thanks to being added to HBO Max. FlixPatrol ranks it as No. 10 on the list of Top movies on Oct. 15, making it clear that viewers are interested in a trip back to the late ‘00s when it comes to films.

Zodiac is a must-watch at least once. Taking 18 months of primary research, director David Fincher and screenwriter James Vanderbilt wanted to make sure the story was as true as possible. They interviewed suspects, survivors, investigators, and more to verify facts, as they didn’t want to rely on Robert Graysmith’s books alone. On top of that, Fincher used some of his own experience, as he grew up in Marin County and remembered police cars following his school bus after a threat was made by the Zodiac.

Considering CGI was still growing in realism and technology in 2007, Fincher wasn’t afraid to put it to good use. He used hidden CGI throughout the thriller to give it the gritty 1970s appearance, helping to recreate a period-accurate San Francisco. Even the blood splatter was all digitized, helping to cut down on time when refilming the scenes.

It still took hundreds of takes, though, with Fincher regularly wanting dozens per scene. On top of that, actors also wanted to bring a realistic and memorable performance. Ruffalo met with the real Dave Toschi, so he could master his posture and vocal cadence. And yes, that’s where the eating Animal Crackers out of coat pockets came from!

He said in a 2006 interview, “I actually ended up doing quite a bit of research. The one thing I wanted to do was get together with Dave Toschi. And so I went to San Francisco for a few days and spent some time with him at his work and hanging out with him. And that was a big part of the whole performance, was that time I spent with him.”

Halle Berry’s son, Maceo, has been cleared to testify amidst a custody battle with her ex-husband, Olivier Martinez.

Per court docs obtained by TMZ, the 13-year-old’s testimony will be “limited to the request for the issuance of a restraining order.”

Berry and Martinez met on the set of the 2012 horror film Dark Tide. They married in 2013 and separated three years later, in 2016. Their divorce was finalized in 2023 with the duo reaching a 50-50 custody agreement.

Martinez requested a domestic violence restraining order, claiming that the 60-year-old actress attacked their son. He filed a lawsuit last month, alleging that Berry “physically abused” Maceo on Sept. 26, “jumping on him, putting her hands around his neck, and choking him.”

Martinez was given an emergency restraining order and full custody. Berry denies her ex-husband’s claims.

“I have never physically, emotionally, or otherwise abused Maceo,” she wrote in a declaration filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, obtained by Entertainment Weekly. “I am a victim of domestic violence, and I help victims of domestic violence. I am not a perpetrator of violence. I would never hurt our child.”

The Academy Award-winning actress does not want her son to testify in court.

According to documents obtained by People, Berry accused Martinez of overlooking accounts from two people who were present during the alleged incident: her 18-year-old daughter, Nahla Ariela, and her fiancé, Van Hunt.

“Van Hunt (“Van”) was physically present during the incident and is the only adult third-party eyewitness to the events at issue,” she said in her declaration. “Nahla Aubry has lived with Halle and Maceo for virtually Maceo’s entire life and is uniquely situated to observe their relationship, family dynamics, and Halle’s parenting over many years.”

She continued, “Rather than welcome testimony from these witnesses with direct personal knowledge, Olivier dismisses their observations while elevating the testimony of a neurodivergent thirteen-year-old child who has spent the last two weeks primarily in Olivier’s care and with whom Olivier admittedly has been discussing the allegations, the litigation, and his anticipated testimony.”

And thanks to a handful of copycat recipes floating around the internet, you don’t need a ticket to the show to enjoy it.

With fall officially underway, I decided to give Dolly’s famous Stampede Soup a try, consulting several recipes before settling on a version that uses just five core ingredients, plus a few pantry seasonings. I also made a couple of adjustments of my own, including swapping canned vegetables for frozen and using a regular blender to get that signature creamy consistency.

The result? A pretty darn good bowl of soup that comes together with surprisingly little effort. And while it might not replace every soup in my fall dinner rotation, it’s certainly earned a recurring spot in it.

What Is Dolly Parton’s Stampede Soup?

Dolly Parton’s Stampede Soup, sometimes called Dixie Stampede Soup, is a creamy vegetable soup served at the singer’s popular dinner attraction. It’s one of those simple, comforting dishes that manages to feel a little indulgent without being particularly complicated. In fact, it’s so popular that you can even buy the attraction’s official creamy vegetable soup mix online for $9.99 and bring a little of the Stampede experience home with you.

Unlike a chunky vegetable soup with a tomato-based broth, Stampede Soup has a smooth, velvety base with vegetables blended into the mix. Think cream of vegetable soup, but with a little country flair.

There are plenty of copycat Stampede Soup recipes out there, and they don’t all take the same approach. Some use a butter-and-flour roux to thicken the soup, while others rely more heavily on cream. Some call for canned vegetables, others use frozen and still others start with fresh produce.

After looking at various recipes from across the internet, I landed on The Country Cook‘s version as my starting point. It’s straightforward, uses ingredients you can find at practically any grocery store and doesn’t require spending the afternoon in the kitchen.

The 5 Core Ingredients You Need

One of the best things about this creamy vegetable soup recipe is that the shopping list is refreshingly short. You need just five main ingredients, along with a few seasonings to bring everything together.

• Chicken stock: This provides the savory foundation for the soup. I used chicken stock, although vegetable stock would be an easy swap if you want a vegetarian version.
• Butter: Besides adding richness, butter is the starting point for the roux that gives the soup its creamy body.
• All-purpose flour: Combined with the butter, flour thickens the stock and cream without requiring a mountain of heavy cream.
• Frozen mixed vegetables: I opted for frozen rather than canned vegetables because I’ve never been particularly fond of the texture and flavor of canned veggies. Frozen vegetables are convenient, inexpensive and hold up nicely in the soup.
• Heavy cream: This is where the soup gets its signature richness and silky finish.

I also added seasonings and fresh parsley. The parsley brings a little color and freshness to an otherwise rich, creamy bowl.

How to Make the Famous Dolly Parton Soup in 20 Minutes

This copycat Stampede Soup is about as uncomplicated as homemade soup gets. I followed The Country Cook’s recipe pretty closely for the measurements, making a few adjustments based on what I had on hand and how I wanted the finished soup to turn out.

The original recipe takes about 20 minutes, although using frozen vegetables may add a few minutes to the cooking time.

1. Make the roux.

Start by melting 3 tablespoons of butter in a large pot over medium heat. Whisk in 3 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and cook for about a minute, stirring continuously, to make a smooth roux.

This simple combination helps thicken the soup and gives it a more substantial, creamy consistency. It’s also why you don’t need to rely entirely on heavy cream to get that comforting texture.

2. Add the chicken stock.

Slowly whisk in 32 ounces of chicken stock, making sure to incorporate it gradually so the flour doesn’t form lumps.

As the mixture heats, the roux will begin doing its job, thickening the liquid into a smooth base for the vegetables and cream.

3. Add the vegetables and seasonings.

Stir in the frozen mixed vegetables, along with your preferred seasonings. The Country Cook’s recipe calls for two 15-ounce cans of drained mixed vegetables, but I used frozen instead. Garlic powder, onion powder, salt and black pepper are all good starting points for seasonings.

Let the soup simmer until the vegetables are heated through and tender. Since I used frozen vegetables instead of canned, this step takes a little longer, but it’s still a remarkably quick soup to pull together.

4. Blend for a creamy texture.

Here’s where I improvised a little.

Many recipes suggest using an immersion blender to partially puree the vegetables right in the pot. I don’t own one, so I transferred approximately half the soup to a regular blender, pureed it and then returned it to the pot.

It worked beautifully.

Blending part of the soup gives it a thick, creamy consistency while leaving some vegetable pieces intact. Just be careful when blending hot liquids. Work in small batches, allow steam to escape safely according to your blender’s instructions and avoid filling the blender too high.

5. Stir in the cream and finish with fresh herbs.

Add 1½ cups of heavy cream and gently simmer the soup for another 5 to 10 minutes. Give it a taste and adjust the seasonings as needed.

I finished mine with fresh parsley, which added a welcome pop of color and a little brightness.

And that’s pretty much it. A rich, creamy pot of vegetable soup with minimal prep, very little cleanup and no complicated techniques.

Fresh vs. Frozen Vegetables: Which Is Better?

For this soup, I’m firmly on Team Frozen.

There’s nothing wrong with using canned vegetables, especially if you’re trying to get dinner on the table as quickly as possible. They’re already cooked, so they only need to be heated through, which can make this recipe even faster.

But personally, I’ve never loved the softer texture of canned vegetables. Frozen mixed vegetables give you a little more control over the final consistency, and you don’t have to spend time peeling, chopping or prepping a bunch of fresh produce.

Fresh vegetables would work too, but you’d need to account for additional prep and cooking time. Depending on what you’re using, you may also want to cut everything into smaller pieces so the vegetables cook evenly.

And don’t feel limited to the standard bag of mixed vegetables. I think broccoli and cauliflower would be fantastic additions, and roasted squash could bring a slightly sweet, earthy flavor that would be especially good in the fall.

The beauty of this soup is that it’s flexible enough to accommodate whatever vegetables you happen to have on hand.

What to Serve With Stampede Soup

At Dolly Parton’s Stampede, the soup is part of a much bigger meal, but at home, it can easily be the starting point for a cozy dinner.

A warm, crusty loaf of bread would be my first choice. Something with a little chew and a sturdy crust is perfect for dipping into the creamy soup. Biscuits or cornbread would also be right at home alongside this Southern-inspired dish.

If you want something lighter, a simple green salad with a tangy vinaigrette would provide a nice contrast to the richness of the cream.

And if you’re looking to make the soup a little heartier, I think crumbled chicken sausage would be a great addition. I’d also be tempted to experiment with a splash of dry white wine or sherry to give the soup a little extra depth and zing.

Final Thoughts

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the soup. It’s creamy, comforting and flavorful without requiring much time or effort. The roux gives it a satisfying body, the frozen vegetables work well, and blending half the pot delivers a nice balance between smooth and chunky.

Is it the most complicated soup you’ll ever make? Not even close. But that’s kind of the point.

Sometimes all you want is a warm bowl of something good without turning dinner into a major production. And with five basic ingredients and a few pantry staples, Dolly’s Stampede Soup delivers a little comfort, a little Southern charm and a whole lot of goodness.

Dolly had a gift for bringing people together, and this soup is one small reminder of that.

October is a big month for birthdays in Donald Trump’s family. The President’s father, Fred Trump, was born on October 11; son Eric Trump’s wife, Lara Trump, turned 44 on October 12; youngest daughter Tiffany Trump turned 33 on October 13; and eldest daughter Ivanka Trump will turn 45 on October 30. But that’s not all!

Ivanka’s son, Joseph Frederick Kushner, turned 13 on October 14. And the new teenager celebrated in a very special way.

Unlike other teens, Joseph didn’t have a birthday dinner at the local pizza shop. Well, maybe he did. But that’s not the celebration the public will see. Instead, fans of the First Family were treated to a few new rare snapshots of 13-year-old Joseph, mom Ivanka, dad Jared Kushner, and grandpa Donald Trump.

In a new Instagram post, Ivanka shared several pics of her family, captioning the carousel, “An unforgettable birthday dinner for Joseph, hosted by Grandpa at the White House. Thirteen is off to quite a start!” And by the look of things, it certainly is.

The series of family photos includes a shot of Ivanka, Joseph, and the President seated at a dining table, Joseph in front of the White House, the teen in the Oval Office with his grandfather (if you zoom in, you can see Trump paging through a photo book of himself and his grandson), three generations of Trumps (Donald, Ivanka, and Joseph) in the Oval Office, Kushner with his wife, son, and father-in-law, and the birthday boy standing in front of the Washington Monument.

The small celebration was very different from the birthday bash Ivanka’s little sister Tiffany had on her 33rd birthday earlier this week. While Ivanka donned a demure, long-sleeved, below-the-knee navy-blue dress for the small, quiet, four-person White House dinner, Tiffany wore a micro-mini with a glam beaded bodice at her much larger Miami restaurant fete. Mom Marla Maples and sister-in-law Bettina Trump attended Tiffany’s bday bash, enjoying a three-tiered wedding-style cake adorned with silky red bows. 

Based on the pictures, Joseph’s birthday meal was an extremely intimate affair that did not include Ivanka’s brothers, Eric and Donald Trump Jr., her sisters-in-law, Lara and Bettina, her sister, Tiffany, or the First Lady, Melania Trump. Joseph’s siblings, 15-year-old Arabella Rose Kushner and 10-year-old Theodore James Kushner, were not pictured.

It’s hard to imagine what the world of comedy would be like if I Love Lucy didn’t thrive. The 1951 Lucille Ball comedy turns 75 today, Oct. 15, 2026, and it broke ground in ways nobody ever expected.

The world of comedy looked vastly different from the way it does now. In fact, the whole of TV looked different, as networks looked at how to grow with new technology, and those networks didn’t necessarily want to take risks.

Yet, Desi Arnaz wanted to do something that others hadn’t. He wanted to use a three-camera, live-audience setup, making sure to film in 35mm film to give the appearance of a theatrical experience for the viewers. The network execs weren’t willing to back it, so Arnaz and Ball took a pay cut. Of course, they wanted something in exchange for that, and it would prove to be the biggest mistake the networks could make.

They wanted 100% ownership of the film stock. Keep in mind that this was a time before reruns, but it was this show that critics would end up calling “revolutionary” that created syndication as we know it. Because of the preserved film instead of live broadcast, the duo could license the film to other networks and usher in the world of reruns. It made them millions.

That wasn’t the only way I Love Lucy became a groundbreaking comedy. The story itself was something nobody thought would stand out: a housewife with dreams of being a star — and she was willing to do whatever she could to get there.

Then there were the censorship issues. You couldn’t say “pregnant” on TV, so the writers had to use words like “expecting.” It didn’t matter that Ball’s real-life pregnancy was being written into the show. Yet, this story became one of the most popular for I Love Lucy fans, with 44 million American viewers tuned to the episode when she gave birth, which was around 71.1% to 73.9% of American television households. “Lucy Goes to the Hospital” pulled in more viewers than President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s inauguration, which aired the very next day!

It’s also important not to overlook Arnaz starring in the series. It wouldn’t have happened without Ball standing firm when it was clear many wanted to bring her radio comedy to primetime TV. The idea of an interracial marriage on broadcast TV was unheard of thanks to the prejudice of the time, and executives and sponsors questioned if audiences would support an American woman with a Cuban husband. Ball stood firm to make sure her real-life husband played Ricky Ricardo, and viewers certainly tuned in!

I Love Lucy is now considered one of the best TV shows ever made thanks to its five-time primetime Emmy wins. Two of those were for Best Situation Comedy, with two going to Ball in 1953 and 1956, and the last going to Vivian Vance in 1954. While I Love Lucy came to an end on May 6, 1957, it continues to be quoted and beloved by comedy fans around the world.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy weighed in on Carrie Ann Inaba’s recent critique of his sister-in-law Jenna Johnson’s Week 5 dance on Dancing With the Stars—and he did not mince words.

The veteran pro dancer, who last competed on the ABC celebrity ballroom competition during its 25th season in 2017, had three key words for Inaba: “Get some consistency.”

On Oct. 15, Chmerkovskiy appeared on Nick Viall’s The Viall Files podcast alongside his wife Peta Murgatroyd, where he slammed Inaba for her confusing criticism of Johnson’s samba with actor Harry Shum Jr.

During the live episode, Inaba called out Johnson for including an illegal “lift” in the dance. Shum was lifted by two male backup dancers during the samba, not by his pro partner Johnson.

“She goes and starts reading off the rulebook, but then that same rulebook that’s applicable in ballroom with lifts is only applicable to a couple dancing,” Chmerkovskiy, 46, said on the podcast. “You’re not talking about extra background dancers running out.”

“There’s no ‘three other people’ in the rulebook,” he continued. “The point is: Carrie Ann, get some consistency. A lift is a lift if a partner lifted his partner. … If you’re going to have the troupe run out and throw someone in the air, that’s not a lift. That’s Dancing With the Stars creative direction, and you should complain to the creative director.”

Chmerkovskiy did agree with Inaba that there was not enough samba content in the dance, which was set to Usher’s “Yeah!”

“They gave too much of a nod to [Usher’s type] of movement and the movement quality, which is Harry’s card,” he said. “But samba didn’t play out, and I think that’s where Carrie Ann should have ended. To give it a lift situation, come on? Then, give him a 7, take the points, something. Why did you bring this up if you’re not going to do anything about it? That’s my problem.”

 During DWTS’ Super Bowl Night on Oct. 13,  Inaba told Johnson, “You need to put more content into your dances. And there was a lift.”

When Johnson questioned her, Inaba read the definition of lift from a paper.

“A lift is any movement during which one of the dancers has both feet off the floor at the same time with the assistance or support of their partner,” she said. “Yeah, lift.”

Inaba had the same conversation with Johnson seven years prior when a lift made its way into her tango with Karamo Brown.

In addition to Maks, other members of the Chmerkovskiy clan weighed in on Inaba’s critique of Johnson.

The DWTS pro’s dancer sister-in-law Murgatroyd admitted that even she was confused by the lift rules.

“When I heard what she said about no one could lift the person, I agreed with Jenna in the fact, like, ‘Oh, so even if it’s not me, he can’t be lifted either,’” Murgatroyd admitted on Viall’s podcast. “I think maybe that would have been confusing for me too.”

And Johnson’s husband Val Chmerkovskiy posted and then deleted a TikTok comment that said, “You almost saw Fresh Prince enter the ballroom last night,” according to a screenshot shared by Page Six. The post was seemingly a reference to Will Smith’s famous stage slap at the 2022 Oscars.

What began as a mother’s loving gesture for her son grew into a multimillion-dollar business that became embedded in American pop culture after Margaret Rudkin developed a whole wheat bread recipe, unknowingly laying the foundation for Pepperidge Farm.

Before becoming a powerhouse in the food industry, the commercial bakery, now a subsidiary of The Campbell’s Company, had its fair share of humble beginnings dating back to 1937.

Rudkin, then a 40-year-old mother and housewife, was living on a property named Pepperidge Farm in Fairfield, Connecticut.

Due to the severe allergies and asthma her son Mark was experiencing at the time, a specialist advised her to avoid feeding him heavily processed commercial white bread, which contained additives and preservatives that could worsen his condition.

Wanting to improve her son’s health, she decided to make homemade bread using a recipe from her Irish grandmother.

“Pepperidge Farm started in my home kitchen with just one idea: producing a top-quality food product,” she said, as cited by the company’s official website.

However, having moved from the city to a farm, she struggled to make it.

“My first loaf should have been sent to the Smithsonian Institution as a sample of Stone Age bread, for it was hard as a rock and about one-inch-high,” Rudkin wrote about her miserable first efforts to bake, according to Fox News.

After several attempts, she was able to produce a successful batch by using a kitchen coffee grinder to grind her wheat. She perfected the recipe using premium ingredients, including cream, honey, whole milk and butter.

The mother of three gained the approval of her sons as well as her family and friends.

The homemade bread also reportedly helped improve her son’s health, prompting his doctor to recommend it to other patients.

“When Mrs. Rudkin makes bread, she makes bread—the finest bread the world has ever known,” Dr. Donaldson described it.

With the help of a local grocer who recognized the quality of her bread, Rudkin turned her homemade recipe into a business despite her lack of experience in marketing, pricing and manufacturing.

She seized the opportunity and laid the foundation for what would become the successful Pepperidge Farm brand.

After 24 years of leading the company, she sold Pepperidge Farm to food manufacturing giant Campbell Soup Company for $28 million.

Campbell recognized the value of Pepperidge Farm’s premium product lineup and acquired the brand along with its expanding range of products. The significant move marked Rudkin as the “first woman to serve on the Campbell Soup Board.”

For decades, the mother and entrepreneur transformed a simple bread recipe into a thriving food company that achieved remarkable growth and established her as a respected business leader.
