The Worst Time To Eat Lunch if You Don’t Want an Afternoon Energy Crash, According to Dietitians

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 3:25pm

When it comes to how much energy you have, every meal and snack matters. And if you're experiencing the dreaded afternoon energy crash—sometimes called the "3 p.m. slump"—you may want to look at when you're eating lunch.

"Lunch is unique because it sits right in the middle," says Marjorie Nolan Cohn, MS, RD, LDN, CEDS, the clinical director of Berry Street. "It's the meal that often determines whether you head into the second half of your day feeling focused and energized, or fighting cravings and a slump."

Cohn explains that your energy levels are tied to blood sugar regulation. Your body is always hard at work stabilizing your blood sugar. Lunch gives you a boost.

"A midday meal supports that balance and can prevent the highs and lows that cause fatigue, brain fog and increased hunger later in the day," she tells Parade. "We've all experienced being 'hangry,' and it happens when energy needs go unmet for too long, and your body starts asking for fuel in a much louder way."

Importantly, Johannah Katz, RD, a dietitian from Consumer Health Digest, says some dropping energy in the afternoon is unavoidable.

"The classic 'post-lunch dip' is not only about lunch," Katz notes. "There is a natural early-to-mid-afternoon drop in alertness that can happen even without eating lunch, which suggests there is a biological rhythm involved. The goal of lunch timing is not to eliminate every afternoon dip, but to avoid making it worse by waiting too long, eating too little or choosing a lunch that is mostly refined carbs with very little protein or fiber."

So, what's the worst time to eat lunch if you want to avoid the afternoon energy crash? Registered dietitians share a ballpark number, plus the best lunches to eat for lasting energy.

The Worst Time To Eat Lunch for Energy, According to Dietitians

According to dietitians, the worst time to eat lunch if you don't want an afternoon energy crash depends on your wake-up time. Generally, though? "For most people, it is best not to push lunch much later than 2 or 3 p.m.," reportsJill McNutt, MS, RDN, a registered dietitian. "When lunch gets delayed too long, blood sugar can dip, which may leave you feeling tired, shaky, irritable or more likely to reach for whatever is quick and easy."

Katz agrees, listing 3 p.m. as the "worst time to eat lunch" for most people with 9-to-5(ish) work schedules.

"By that point, lunch is almost turning into an early dinner, and many people have already pushed through the exact window when their bodies needed fuel," she explains. "Delaying lunch that long can make the natural afternoon dip feel worse, especially if breakfast was light or early."

McNutt notes that people may still eat dinner after a 3 p.m. lunch, but they'll push it even later. She shares that research suggests the body may handle food differently throughout the day.

"Even when people eat the same foods and the same amount of food, eating later may lead to higher blood sugar because the body may not use insulin as well later in the day," she tells Parade.

She clarifies that there are exceptions, such as early risers, shift workers and other people with non-traditional work schedules.

"Instead of forcing lunch into a standard time window, it is better to build a routine that fits your day and keeps meals spaced out in a way that supports steady energy," McNutt says.

Cohn agrees. "Rather than focusing on a specific time, I encourage people to pay attention to how long it's been since they last ate and when the next meal is going to be," she says. "If it's been five-plus hours, many people start to notice drops in energy, concentration and mood—not all hunger cues are in your stomach, which can make it more difficult to understand when it’s time to eat."

Eleana Kaidanian, RD, CDN, CPT-WFS, a registered dietitian and the owner of Long Island Nutritionist, agrees, explaining that lunch is usually "late" if it's more than six hours after breakfast without a snack in between.

"This late lunch can encourage overeating at lunch time, consuming larger portions than needed, feeling overfull, making less mindful choices—choosing with your stomach and reacting to cravings—related to being ravenous, eating too quickly, which can cause indigestion, bloating and even weight gain," she says.

What’s ‘Too Early’ for Lunch?

"Late lunches" can really crush energy, but so can eating too early.

"For most people on a typical daytime schedule, I would consider lunch before about 11:00 a.m. 'too early,' especially if they already ate breakfast around 7:00 or 8:00 a.m.," Katz says. "The issue is not that an early lunch is bad by itself; it is that it can create a very long stretch between lunch and dinner. That long afternoon gap may set someone up for a 3:00 or 4:00 p.m. crash."

Again, Katz says there are exceptions, like people who are pregnant, nursing, living with diabetes or who skipped breakfast. You don't necessarily have to reach for an early lunch, though.

"Instead of just pushing off lunch to a later time in a fasting state, I recommend having a small, balanced portion of food between breakfast and lunch to widen the gap between meals without feeling hunger pangs," Kaidanian says. "This can encourage smaller portions at meal time and blood sugar balance."

Does Lunch Timing Affect Weight Loss?

Lunch timing can factor into weight loss and gain. "Eating earlier in the day may be helpful for some people because the body tends to manage blood sugar better earlier in the day," McNutt says. "As the day goes on, the body may not use insulin quite as efficiently, which means a meal eaten late at night may be handled differently than the same meal eaten earlier."

For instance, she points to a study that found people lost more weight when they ate earlier in the day (from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.) than when they ate later (from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.). They also experienced improvements in blood sugar and cholesterol levels, despite eating the same number of calories as their peers who ate later. Still, lunch timing won't make or break weight loss.

"It is not the only thing that matters," she emphasizes. "Overall food intake, food quality, activity, sleep, stress and consistency are all important, too."

3 Lunch Options for More Energy

There's no such thing as an "ideal lunch" for anything, including energy. "A ‘perfect lunch' varies based on factors like sleep, hydration, stress and activity level on a day-to-day basis," Cohn tells Parade. "But in general, the meals that sustain energy best include plenty of protein and fiber."

Each nutrient helps slow digestion, keeping your blood sugar stable, your belly satisfied, and your energy levels steady for longer. Which lunches fit this bill? Below, RDs share some of the lunches they reach for when they need an energy boost.

1. Leftover bowl

Get your food fix and reduce food waste all in one bite (OK, several bites). Cohn notes that these bowls let you repurpose last night's dinner protein (like chicken, beans or salmon) and add leftover roasted vegetables (or a handful of greens). Throw in a scoop of whole grains, such as brown rice or quinoa and sliced avocado or a drizzle of olive oil.

"This hits all the marks: protein, fiber, complex carbs and healthy fat," she says. "It also takes about three minutes to put together."

2. The snack board (charcuterie-style assembly)

Short on time and leftovers? You can still throw together a healthy lunch. The "girl dinner" trend of 2024 still works this year, and it doesn't matter what meal you use it for (or your gender identity). Cohn loves to put together a board with hard-boiled eggs, hummus, turkey or smoked salmon, whole-grain crackers, raw vegetables and a small handful of nuts.

"This feels more like grazing than a traditional meal, but when assembled with intention, it's a complete meal that checks every box. It also requires zero cooking," she says.

3. Open-faced egg sandwich

McNutt suggests making an egg salad with Greek yogurt, avocado and hard-boiled eggs.

"Then serve it on whole-grain bread with a side salad," she recommends. "The eggs and Greek yogurt provide protein, the bread adds carbohydrates, and the avocado adds healthy fat."

FDA Issues Nationwide Recall of Millions of Eye Drops–Find Out if You’re Affected

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 3:10pm

The Food and Drug Administration has issued a nationwide recall for over 2.5 million prescription eye drops, citing the possible presence of a foreign matter.

The eye drops, produced by Lupin Pharmaceuticals Inc. based in Naples, Florida, were initially recalled on June 4 before getting a Class II status update on June 30. Class II recalls are issued when there is “a situation in which use of, or exposure to, a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote,” says the federal agency.

The 2,530,182 affected prednisolone acetate ophthalmic suspension eye drops were sold nationwide in either 5-milliliter, 10-milliliter, or 15-milliliter bottles, with expiration dates ranging from July 2026 all the way through February 2028. For a full list of the affected lot codes, click here.

This type of eye drop is typically prescribed to patients suffering from mild to moderate non-infectious eye allergies. They are also prescribed to help with inflammation. According to the Mayo Clinic, the steroid medicine can help relieve symptoms such as swelling, redness, or itchiness caused by eye infections, as well as damage caused by both chemical and thermal burns.

Last month, the FDA issued another major medical recall for over-the-counter stomach and gas medication brand Gas-X. Four lots of Gas-X Extra Strength Softgels 125mg, 120 ct. and 72 ct., which were distributed on or about April 13 through May 14, were recalled due to potential contamination from machine coolant. “There is a potential that ingestion of the Softgels contaminated with the diluted propylene glycol-based coolant may result in adverse events such as nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea,” the agency said at the time of the recall.

'90s Music Star With Iconic Theme Song Turns 74

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 3:05pm

The composer of this iconic NBA theme song is celebrating his 74th birthday.

John Tesh is an American TV host, songwriter, producer and musician, best known as the songwriter behind the theme song "Roundball Rock," which has been used by the NBA and NBC for over 12 years. In addition, he hosts the Intelligence for Your Life radio show with his wife, Connie Sellecca.

Tesh was born and raised on Long Island and went to college at North Carolina State University, where he studied communications and music. After taking a radio/film course in college, Tesh worked part-time reading the news for Rick Dees at WKIX (AM), and his college roommate helped Tesh break into the radio and journalism industry.

John Tesh's Career Outside Music Composition

Since the start of his career, Tesh has won six Emmys and has four gold albums, two Grammy nominations and an Associated Press award for investigative journalism. In addition, he has also worked with Entertainment Tonight, as well as a sports commentator and host for the Olympic Games, Wimbledon, the US Open, the Tour de France and the Ironman Triathlon.

Tesh's first TV career stint was as an anchor at a local news station in Nashville. He moved throughout various stations around the country, working in Atlanta, Orlando, Durham and New York City. He later moved to CBS and NBC, where he served as a sportscaster.

Tesh didn't start his music career until the late 1980s. His good friend Yanni asked him if he could join his band as a keyboardist. Though he had never performed on stage and had a full-time job with demanding hours at Entertainment Tonight, he agreed and participated in one tour with the group. Later on, Yanni assisted Tesh in signing his first recording contract with Private Music.

After writing many jingles and theme songs for various programs, including the theme music to Bobby's World, Tesh was assigned to write a theme song for NBA on NBC. He ended up writing one of the most iconic sports songs in history.

What is the significance of 'Roundball Rock?'

"Roundball Rock" was developed by Tesh in 1989, while he was in his hotel room in France covering the Tour de France for CBS. At the time, NBC recently acquired the broadcasting rights to the NBA, and Tash was asked to create a theme song. He came up with the melody while asleep, and immediately recorded it on his answering machine so he wouldn't forget what he came up with. After the Tour de France was over, he flew back to Los Angeles and recorded the theme song in a studio.

"Roundball Rock" made its NBC broadcast debut on November 3, 1990, during the opening season matchup between the Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs. Other variants and remixes were made throughout the years for different organizations, such as the WNBA, in 1997. After NBC lost NBA and WNBA rights to ABC and ESPN in 2002, Tesh offered the incoming networks the rights to use his theme, but they declined and decided to compose their own theme music instead.

The theme song made its comeback on NBC during basketball games for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics and was picked up again during the 2025 NBA season under a new contract. "Roundball Rock" has also been used in multple occasions by Fox College Hoops and All Elite Wrestling, as well as parodied and sampled by many artists.

From 1990 to 2002, the tune was played over 12,000 times, making it one of the most iconic tunes in sports history.

"It's supernatural for me because the first time it was on the air, I was sitting in a bar watching it," Tesh explained on the Dan Patrick Show last October. "I had written hundreds of themes for CBS in particular, [from] you know, everything from football to tennis. And so this was just another theme."

What is John Tesh Doing Now?

Even if it's been more than 30 years since Tesh composed "Roundabout Rock," he is still very active in the TV and entertainment industry. He continues to host his nationally syndicated radio show, Intelligence for Your Life, and actively creates music. He released an album of sports-themed music titled Sports in August, and remains in stable condition while successfully fighting a 10-year battle with metastatic prostate cancer.

When Tesh was diagnosed in 2015, he was told by doctors that he had 18 months to live, but after surgery and care at UT MD Anderson, he is still staying busy years later.

"The team at UT MD Anderson was by our side throughout my journey," he wrote in his 2020 memoir, Relentless: Unleashing a Life of Purpose, Grit, and Faith. "We are grateful for the care I received that is truly only possible here."

Ashley Trail has a role on one of the most popular sports shows Ashley Trail on 'Big Brother 28'

Evan Mulling/CBS

Initially, we just got to know 24-year-old Ashley as a giggly bartender in Chicago. But fans of Barstool Sports may recognize her from a number of videos she's done with them over the years. She started with the popular media network in 2023, becoming known by the nickname "Weather Girl." In the years since, she's become a mainstay on the sports betting show "The Barstool Sports Advisors." We'll see if this "Weather Girl's" media experience is a good forecast for her time in the house!

@advisors

Week 5 of Barstool Sports Advisors is LIVE! Weather Girl Ashley shocked the entire set when she told us she’s never had a PB&J before.

♬ original sound - The Barstool Sports Advisors Barrett Pfeiffer leaked a Big Brother houseguest's name before it was announced Barrett Pfeiffer on 'Big Brother 28'

Evan Mulling/CBS

The 27-year-old Jumbotron engineer declared in his preseason interviews that he's the biggest superfan to ever play Big Brother. And, finding out what he did during the preseason of Season 19, he may actually be correct in that claim. Before becoming a houseguest in his own right, Barrett and his friends spent years commenting on the actions inside the house on the "Our Reality" podcast. In 2017, he and his co-host had received word that an Arkansas dance teacher named Raven Walton may be on the next season.

And so, giving a new meaning to "boots-on-the-ground journalism," the two actually traveled to her hometown, where they happened to see Big Brother camera crews filming what would wind up being her intro package. Barrett and his co-host are credited with being the first to publicize Raven's name before she was actually announced on the cast. And now, nearly a decade later, he's going from leaking houseguests to becoming one himself!

Drew Campbell has reality TV history — with MrBeast! Drew Campbell on 'Big Brother 28'

Evan Mulling/CBS

Despite being only 22, Big Brother 28 will not be the first foray into reality TV for Drew. The surgical dental assistant previously cut his teeth in 2024 on the first season of the MrBeast series Beast Games. There, he was Player 655, one of 1,000 people selected to participate in a wide variety of depraved games from the hit YouTuber in pursuit of millions of dollars. After making it past the first cut, he was ultimately eliminated in Episode 2. Interestingly, there's a Big Brother connection from Drew's time on the Prime Video show before even reaching the house. Cosette Rinab, an actress who portrayed the disguised version of the malevolent A.I. character "AINSLEY" in Big Brother 26, also competed on the show.

Jason De Puy lit up the screen on two seasons of Drag Race Jason De Puy on 'Big Brother 28'

Evan Mulling/CBS

Of course, Big Brother 28 is far from Jason's first sashay down the reality TV runway. But he's more well-known for being in a faceful of make-up and a sickening outfit, as a two-time competitor on RuPaul's Drag Race under his drag name, "Salina EsTitties." As a contestant on Season 15 of the Emmy-winning MTV series, he made it all the way to sixth place in the competition. And, while he did not win any challenge, he won three lip syncs over the course of the season (a rarity on the show), getting eliminated on his fourth time in the bottom. He also earned Season 15's "Golden Boot Award" for the worst look of the season, after his street sign-themed "Metallica" look in Episode 3.

Jason De Puy, as 'Salina EsTitties,' earns the 'Golden Boot Award' for the worst look on 'RuPaul's Drag Race' Season 15

Courtesy of MTV

Jason then returned to the Drag Race world on Season 11 of All-Stars. Part of the pink bracket, he put his Big Brother fandom to use, forming the "PekPek" alliance with Aura Mayari, as well as the "Tres Leches" alliance with Crystal Methyd and April CarriĂłn. In Episode 6, he finally won his first challenge, putting him in pole position to move on to the next stage of the competition. But his number one ally and fellow Season 15 sister Aura made a critical betrayal. With Salina and Crystal even in points, Aura gave the tiebreaker to the latter. Crystal was sent through, while Salina was eliminated. Jason was incredibly upset, to say the least, refusing to talk to Aura backstage before finally blowing up on her.

And that's not all! Parade got the chance to talk with Jason during press for All Stars, where we asked him what reality shows he wants to do besides Drag Race. After an immediate response of, "What do you know?!" (which makes much more sense in retrospect), he energetically talked about his love for Survivor and Big Brother. Two years ago, in fact, he entered the house, playing a one-day game alongside influencers in the preseason of Season 26. The same year, he was dressed head to toe as AINSLEY for an event in LA. And he's even auditioned for Survivor in the past! It's safe to say Jason's reality TV experience and obsession with these social strategy shows will make him one to watch (and we're not just talking about the potential for more Golden Boot-worthy outfits).

Kamu Kirk has a winning record in UFC fights Kamu Kirk on 'Big Brother 28'

Evan Mulling/CBS

32-year-old Kamu has talked up and down about his work as an MMA fighter. So we decided to do a bit of a deep dive into what his experience in the Octagon has been. Looking on ESPN, "The Jawaiian's" ultimate record is 12 wins versus 7 losses, with 5 of those wins coming from either knockout or total knockout. As a featherweight, his most prominent fights happened in 2021 and 2024 as part of both UFC and the Legacy Fighting Alliance. We shall see if "The Jawaiian" is able to deliver yet another total knockout when he enters a very different ring!

La Trice Verrett is a Grammy winner with a musical icon in her family LaTrice Verrett on 'Big Brother 28'

Evan Mulling/CBS

It makes sense that La Trice's nickname is "La La," considering how well-versed (literally) she and her family are in the world of music. Two of her uncles are founding members of the band Kool and the Gang: Robert "Kool" Bell and Ronald Bell. Additionally, her mom was the tour coordinator for the Grammy Award-winning funk band. But the 57-year-old has her own Grammy accolades to boot! She spent some time as a vocalist in the gospel and R&B group Sounds of Blackness. In its 57-year history, they have won three Grammys, earned an Emmy nomination, and scored several hits on the Billboard charts during their zenith in the 1990s.

Lyric Medeiros has a chart-topping dad — and once auditioned for American Idol Lyric Medeiros on 'Big Brother 28'

Evan Mulling/CBS

Given Lyric's unique name, it's not surprising to know that music also runs in her family. Her father, George Medeiros, made it big in 1987 with his cover of George Benson's "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love for You." The song was a bona fide hit, reaching number 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topping the charts in Canada and across Europe. The next year, he released a duet with French singer Elsa, which remained in the Top 50 charts in France for a whopping 25 weeks. In 1990 his collaboration with Bobby Brown, titled "She Ain't Worth It," went all the way to number one for two weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.

So, if we were to tell you that Big Brother is not Lyric's first reality show, you can only imagine where she previously popped up! The 25-year-old attorney appeared on American Idol back in 2023, where she was one of the highlighted performances in the premiere with her audition. While she made it through to Hollywood, she was criticized by the judges for being "too polite and too sweet." Despite promising Jordin Sparks she would prove she's "got that grit," her performance of "They Just Keep Moving the Line" from Smash failed to show she took their advice, eliminating her in the second round.

Yash Patel made big money with his family in TV debut Yash Patel on 'Big Brother 28'

Taylor Brown on 'Big Brother 28'

While Yash has been on TV before, Big Brother will be the first time he'll be riding solo. The 24-year-old finance analyst appeared on the second season of the FOX game show The Quiz with Balls back in June 2025, alongside his parents and two siblings. Working together, the quintet was able to showcase their knowledge across a slew of subjects, with only Yash's dad getting hit by one of the eponymous balls, getting eliminated from the competition. While his brother was unable to net the $100,000 grand prize, the Patels went home with the win and a satisfactory $46,000 in earnings. Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

If summer nights have you kicking off the covers, flipping your pillow, or waking up hotter than you’d like, it may be time to rethink your sheets. The Simple&Opulence 100% Linen Sheet Set is currently on sale at Walmart, starting at $111 (down from $186) for the twin size, with larger sizes also priced at $150 or less. It comes in twin, full, queen, king, and California king sizes, with color options including white, blush pink, sage green, lilac, and more, though availability varies by shade.

The set is made from 100% linen with a stone-washed finish, giving it a soft, lived-in feel. It includes one flat sheet, one fitted sheet, and one pillowcase in the twin size, while larger sizes come with two pillowcases. The fitted sheet has a 15-inch pocket with all-around elastic, and the breathable linen is designed to help regulate temperature.

Linen has a naturally looser weave than many cotton or microfiber sheets, so it doesn’t cling to your skin as much when the room feels warm or humid. It also handles moisture better than heavier bedding, which can make a huge difference during heat waves. And unlike some sheet sets that can feel too stiff, this one has a stone-washed finish that gets softer with every wash.

One shopper wrote, “These linen sheets really upgrade my bed to a resort feeling,” while another called them “absolutely gorgeous,” adding that “they washed and dried beautifully.” A third reviewer described them as “very comfortable” and the “best sheets ever.”

The best part is this set doesn’t have to be packed away once the weather cools down. You can use the flat sheet on its own during heat waves, then pair it with a lightweight quilt or duvet later in the year. Since linen is breathable yet easy to layer, it works as a year-round bedding upgrade rather than something you only pull out in July.

This is a great price for a fully linen sheet set, especially if you’ve been wanting to upgrade your bedding before the next stretch of hot summer nights. If your current sheets feel too warm, too clingy, or just overdue for a refresh, now is the perfect time to add Walmart’s Simple&Opulence 100% Linen Sheet Set to your cart.

1971 Rock Classic, Written in 20 Minutes, Was a No. 1 Hit 55 Years Ago Today

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 2:35pm

Fifty-five years ago today, iconic singer-songwriter Carole King topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart with her legendary hit, "It's Too Late."

Released on April 16, 1971 as a double A-side single alongside "I Feel the Earth Move" from her landmark album Tapestry, it didn't take long for "It's Too Late" to experience unparalleled success. Less than a month after the song dropped, it entered the Billboard Hot 100 chart on May 8. By June 19, the track had swiftly climbed the chart to peak at No. 1, where it held the top spot for five consecutive weeks.

Even though the song is widely considered a masterclass of soft rock, it took only 20 minutes to compose. "It's Too Late" was co-written by King and her longtime creative collaborator Toni Stern, with King composing the music and Stern penning the lyrics. In a 2021 interview with Sound Opinions, Stern revealed that the process of getting the song down wasn't a struggle at all for them.

American singer-songwriter Carole King plays the piano to recoord producer Lou Adler and her co-writer Toni Stern in Lou Adler's office in March 1971 in Los Angeles, California.

Jim McCrary/Redferns

"I wrote ‘It’s Too Late’ in 20 minutes,” Stern said, noting that she often approached King with an entire set of lyrics already written out on a legal pad. “She would take that pad, put it on the piano stand and within an hour, hour and a half at the most, she would have the melody.”

Stern wrote the song about her breakup with James Taylor, a fellow musician who was a close collaborator of King's. The track explores a nuanced take on ending a long-term relationship. The lyrics reflect the mature, saddening realization that the love once held between two people has faded—remarking that it is too late to fix the issues even if both parties tried to make things work.

The song's resonant themes of acceptance and heartbreak connected deeply with listeners and critics alike. In 1972, "It's Too Late" was recognized by industry professionals at the 14th Annual Grammy Awards, taking home Record of the Year—speaking to its impact on the music industry.

Over five decades after it peaked on the Hot 100, King's hit single remains extremely relevant. The song has seamlessly persevered into the digital era, garnering over 315 million streams on Spotify. Its continued recognition and ability to bridge generations of listeners cement its legacy as one of the greatest breakup anthems of all time.

'Little House on the Prairie' Star Shares Unexpected Family Discovery

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 2:25pm

Melissa Gilbert has made an emotional discovery about her biological family more than six decades after she was adopted at birth.

The Little House on the Prairie star, 62, revealed via Instagram that she recently connected with three biological brothers on her birth mother's side after years of searching, calling the experience "an extraordinary adventure."

"Well, this has been a remarkable few weeks...For those who don’t know, I was adopted at birth. For which I will be eternally grateful," she shared via Instagram on Thursday, July 9. "Decades ago, I found my birth father’s family. Including my three older half-siblings. Those relationships were a bit fraught. Not very close and still full of secrets. Not what I’d hoped but ultimately an important part of my story and one for which I will always be grateful to them for."

Things took a positive turn, however, when Gilbert connected with biological family members on her birth mother's side.

"I’d always wished for a big brother, and I found out I have three," she rejoiced.

Her newly discovered older brother shared a post of his own, revealing that one of their siblings has passed.

"Well
this wasn’t on my 2026 bingo card," Matt Tuchscherer wrote. "It’s been an incredible few weeks of discovering family history, sharing stories, asking a million questions, and getting to know someone I never knew existed."

According to Matt, he and his brothers also share an adopted sister, whom he called his "rock."

"I’m incredibly fortunate to have both of them in my life," he continued. "I’m looking forward to seeing where this new chapter leads. Family has a funny way finding each other, even after 62 years."

The beloved actress went on to say that she and Matt are "becoming especially close."

"I’ve always said that I don’t have a family tree, I have a family shrub. It’s now more of a climbing rose vine. Covering an enormous wall with its many different shapes and colored blooms," she wrote. "I love my family. Both the family I grew up with and the biological family I have gotten to know and continue to get to know
apparently there is one more half-sibling (on my birth father's side) who we are trying to contact. Life is such an extraordinary adventure. Even at 62 years old, it continues to surprise me."

Wes Anderson’s Bizarre Reaction to Getting Trapped in an Elevator

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 2:18pm

WesAnderson experienced an unfortunate ending to his evening after celebrating his directorial debut, Bottle Rocket.

On July 6, Anderson, along with the film’s star LukeWilson and producer James L. Brook, appeared at the Academy Museum in Los Angeles, Calif., for a Q&A and screening of the film 30 years after its premiere.

After the event, the trio found themselves stuck in an elevator for around half an hour. The Los Angeles Fire Department was able to free them, along with others trapped in the elevator.

In a video posted on social media by production specialist CarolynDunn, Anderson appears in an all-white suit, walking up to the LAFD and asking them, “Do you have any theory as to what was wrong with it?” One of the firefighters responded, “Probably had too much weight in it.” The director said, “Okay, thank you very much.”

Dunn captioned the video, “Director Wes Anderson and writer/producer James L. Brooks saved by the Los Angeles Fire Department from a broken elevator! đŸȘ“đŸš’ 30th Anniversay of “Bottle Rocket”. Academy Museum of Motion Pictures. đŸŽžïžđŸŽŹđŸ“œïžâ€Â

On X, Save Your Cinema claimed the elevator was “a secret passageway/elevator so celebrities can enter and exit without” at the Museum, but it has not been confirmed whether that is accurate.

It is clear that the elevator appears to exit outside in the museum's courtyard, near the valet parking. In the video, a black car is shown waiting. There is a separate elevator that screening viewers most likely used inside the venue.

Bottle Rocket was released in 1996 and starred Luke and OwenWilson, JamesCaan, and RobertMusgrave. Anderson won his first Academy Award in 2024 for The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar after having been nominated seven previous times. He is known for projects such as The Royal Tenenbaums, Fantastic Mr. Fox, and Moonrise Kingdom.

2000s Musician, Ranked Among the Greatest Guitarists Ever, Turns 51 Today

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 2:15pm

On July 9, the White Stripes singer and guitarist Jack White turned 51. White, who has regularly been ranked among the best guitarists, is constantly evolving and innovating, alternating between blues, funk, rock, folk, and garage rock.

"For White, every time he picks up a guitar, there’s a new challenge," Rolling Stone wrote when he was ranked No. 32 on the 2023 "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" list.

In the early 2000s, the White Stripes burst onto the indie and garage rock scene with their 2001 album White Blood Cells. It had been four years since the Detroit-based duo of Jack White and Meg White had played their first show. While they'd enjoyed increasing success year after year, it was their third album that finally made people take notice of the bluesy garage rock band.

Reaching Megastar Status with 'Elephant'

The album reached No. 61 on the Billboard 200 but peaked at No. 55 in the U.K. Their follow-up, 2003's Elephant, reached No. 6, with Rolling Stone's David Fricke giving the album a perfect score. Its single, "Seven Nation Army," became wildly popular, earning the band their first Grammy Award.

"Jack and Meg White became proper bona fide megastars on the back of this song, propelled by arguably the finest riff of the decade by anyone," NME wrote, putting the song at No. 14 on the list of "100 Best Songs of The 00s."

A Lifelong Musical Evolution

Each subsequent album was more successful than the last: 2005's Get Behind Me Satan peaked at No. 3, while White showed that he was as skilled at acoustic guitar as at electric. Icky Thump, their final album, almost reached No. 1 but stalled at No. 2.

After the White Stripes went on hiatus, White found other ways to experiment musically. In 2005, he created the band the Raconteurs, followed by the supergroup the Dead Weather in 2009. He's also released six solo albums. On July 10, 2026, his seventh album, Frozen Charlotte, will be released. Happy birthday, Jack White.

An Early 2k Rap Legend Reveals Why He's Retiring After Dropping Final Album

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 2:03pm

More than two decades after first making his mark on 2000s hip-hop, T.I. (Clifford "Tip" Harris) is officially ready to close the chapter on his recording career.

The Grammy-winning rapper, famous for early 2K hits like “Bring Em Out” and “Whatever You Like,” recently released what he says will be his final studio album, Kill the King, and he's made it clear that this time, he means it.

The Atlanta icon explained that he's stepping away because he feels he's accomplished everything he set out to do in music, telling People "I’ve gotten everything I prayed for from the game."

Instead, T.I. is embracing a quieter life centered on family, acting and other creative pursuits. Looking back on a career that included chart-topping hits, Grammy Awards and plenty of personal peaks and valleys, the rapper told People he's at peace with where life has taken him.

“I feel blessed to have had such a long career," he said. "To go from the kid that was praying to be a part of something to having such a significant role.”

“It just feels like this is it," he concluded. "I’ll catch y’all on the flip side.”

Inside T.I.'s rise to fame

T.I. rose from Atlanta's underground rap scene to become one of the defining voices of Southern hip-hop in the early 2000s.

After breaking through with his 2001 debut I'm Serious, he found mainstream success with albums including Trap Muzik, Urban Legend, King and Paper Trail, helping to popularize the term "trap music" long before it became a dominant force in popular culture.

Along the way, he earned three Grammy Awards, scored multiple Billboard Hot 100 hits—including "Whatever You Like," "Live Your Life" with Rihanna, and "Dead and Gone" featuring Justin Timberlake. He also expanded into acting with roles in films such as ATL, Takers, and Marvel's Ant-Man franchise.

Beyond music, T.I. has also built a career as a television personality, entrepreneur, and podcast host.

A look back at T.I.'s legal battles

Despite his success, T.I.'s career has also been marked by a series of high-profile legal troubles.

In 2007, he was arrested on federal weapons charges and later served prison time after pleading guilty to illegally purchasing machine guns and silencers. He returned to prison in 2010 following a probation violation stemming from a drug-related arrest.

In 2021, he and his wife, Tameka "Tiny" Harris, were accused by multiple women of sexual assault and other misconduct—allegations the couple consistently and strongly denied that were later dismissed.

Where is T.I. now?

T.I. still plans to pursue his acting and podcast careers, while focusing on his large family: 7 kids between he and Tiny, ranging from 10 to 30 years old.

“It’s always great when I get all the kids and everybody together at one time, because when they move out of the house, they have their own lives," he explained. "They’re doing all their ripping and running.”

Rock Band Made History With 'Album of the Year' Nomination, Despite Never Reaching No. 1 in the U.S.

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 1:51pm

Nothing solidifies an album's legendary status like a nomination for one of the most prestigious awards in music.

One of the most popular albums of recent years, Haim's third studio album, Women in Music Pt. III, landed a nomination for the Album of the Year award at the 2021 Grammy Awards. The trio — sisters Alana Haim, Danielle Haim, andEste Haim— made history with the nomination, becoming the first ever all-female rock group to be up for the award.

"The thing that’s really blowing our minds the most is that we’re three Jews from the valley," Alana told Billboard of hearing the news of the nomination. "I keep refreshing the page being like, 'Is this really our record?'"

“At the end of the day, we’re a rock band, we’re women, and we’ve had to go through a lot of stuff being women in this industry, and it feels good to be a rock band in the [album of the year] category,” she continued. “Everyone that’s nominated in the rock performance category, they’re all women — and it’s about f—ing time.”

Danielle, who co-produced Women in Music Pt. III, alongside Ariel Rechtshaid and Rostam Batmanglij, said that the record was a "labor of love" and that the sisters "put every last ounce of what we had within ourselves into this album."

However, despite the monumental achievement, the album failed to top the charts in the United States. Released on June 26, 2020, it peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard 200. Across the pond, however, the record soared to the top spot upon release and reached No. 1 on the Official UK Albums Chart.

Formed in Los Angeles in 2007, Haim shot to fame in 2013 following the release of their critically acclaimed debut album, Days Are Gone. Prior to their 2020 Album of the Year nomination, the sisters, who have toured with the likes of Taylor Swift and Florence + The Machine, won the NME Award for Best International Band in 2014, and again in 2018.

Controversy as Zendaya's Dress Flown in Private Jet for Just One Red Carpet Appearance

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 1:33pm

Fans were in awe when Zendaya arrived at the world premiere of The Odyssey in London wearing a Schiaparelli dress worn just hours before on the French runway.

Now, her stylist Law Roach has revealed how they managed to grab the stunning white dress so quickly.

He revealed that the Schiaparelli dress was flown from Paris to London on a private jet after debuting at Paris Haute Couture Week.

The Euphoria actress’s longtime stylist told French content creator Elias Medini, known as Lyas, that he traveled to Paris just to grab the structural gown straight off the runway.

"I flew in last night to come to the show; I have a private jet waiting for me,” Roach laughed. “And for her, to get that dress off of her, to get it to London to put it on a very special girl,” Law added.

Fans were not happy to hear a private jet was used just to transport a dress. In a time when many countries are struggling with heatwaves and the fallout of climate change, their actions have been criticized for being selfish and unnecessary.

Lakyn Thee Stylist thought it was "deeply unethical" while another social media user said "i’m still not over this it’s such an egregious display of selfishness."

"Zendaya is vegan for the animals, but she let her team use a private jet just for a miserably dress polluting the environment. I thought we already talk about this s--- regarding other celebrities, at least, now we know that we need to put Zendaya in that list," scolded another X user.

Zendaya’s dress came fresh off the runway following Monday 6's Schiaparelli show, which kicked off Paris Haute Couture Week and showcased the Fall Winter 2026/27 Haute Couture collection designed by Daniel Roseberry.

The dress featured a white breastplate with lace details and "glowing" fringe. "Zendaya chose a glowing dress with a molded bustier in white glazed porcelain-effect silicone, racer back and lacing details, and mirrored fringes embroidered with a white-to-mirror sfumato gradient. The fringed skirt is illuminated from within," Schiaparelli's website wrote.

How Many Eggs Is Too Many To Eat Each Week? Registered Dietitians Explain

Thu, 07/09/2026 - 1:25pm

Even if you consider yourself to be pretty well-educated about what foods are healthy and what foods aren’t, eggs can be a conundrum. On the one hand, they’re high in protein and omega-3 fatty acids (that’s the good type of fat). On the other hand, eggs contain cholesterol, and aren’t cardiologists always saying to be mindful of that?

The cholesterol in eggs is found entirely in the yolks, which is why some people only eat the white part of eggs. This raises another question about eggs: Is eating egg whites healthier than eating the whole egg? (You could say that it’s an egg-cellent question.)

If you’re an egg-lover, you might have them for breakfast every single day. And if you don’t eat much meat, you may also like integrating this particular food into your lunches and dinners to up your protein. But how many eggs is too many to eat a week?

Parade brought all these questions to registered dietitians, who were happy to explain all about the health benefits of eggs and how many it’s considered healthy to eat a week. Let’s get cracking.

Are Eggs Healthy?

PSA: Eggs are absolutely a healthy, nutrient-rich food. “Eggs get a bad rap because they have cholesterol. But guess what? Cholesterol doesn't raise your cholesterol. Saturated fat from foods such as cheese, butter and red meat raises LDL cholesterol. Not that we shouldn't ever consume those foods—all foods fit in moderation—but eggs aren't the culprit,” Dr. Theresa DeLorenzo, DCN, RD, a registered dietitian and adjunct professor at Russell Sage College and SUNY Oneonta, tells Parade.

Scientific research backs this up. According to a 2024 study, men who ate more than five eggs a week did not experience higher LDL cholesterol levels when their diet was high in fiber. A 2025 study found that a diet that included two eggs a week actually resulted in lower LDL cholesterol than an egg-free diet. The key, the researchers found, was to make sure one’s overall diet was low in saturated fat, which, as Dr. DeLorenzo explained, does raise LDL cholesterol.

“Eggs can be a very nutrient-dense food,” says registered dietitian Johannah Katz, RD, noting that eggs contain protein, choline (a nutrient that supports brain health and muscle function), vitamin B12, vitamin D, selenium, lutein and zeaxanthin (which are both key nutrients for eye health). That’s a lot of nutrients packed into one food!

Are Egg Whites Healthier Than Egg Yolks?

Here’s the thing: If you want to reap all the glorious benefits eggs offer, both registered dietitians say that it’s important to eat both the egg whites and egg yolks. If you eat just the egg whites, you’ll miss out on a lot of the nutritional benefits.

“Don't throw away the yolk. Egg white sandwiches are one of my pet peeves,” Dr. DeLorenzo says. “Egg yolks contain a really beneficial antioxidant called lutein, which protects our eyes from damage caused by our computers, phones and TVs. Lutein also protects our brain from cognitive decline.”

Katz agrees with this, adding that the yolks also are where the brain-healthy choline is found.

That said, Katz notes that eating only the egg whites can be beneficial to some people, depending on their health goals. “Egg whites are a great option if someone wants extra protein without fat or extra calories, but they are not nutritionally equivalent to whole eggs,” she says.

She explains that a practical middle ground could be mixing one whole egg with the whites from two eggs. That way, you’re getting lots of protein from the eggs and still getting the nutrients from the yolk while keeping calorie intake more moderate.

How Many Eggs Is Too Many To Eat Each Week?

Now that you know how nutrient-rich eggs are, comes the big question: How many should you aim to eat each week, and is there such a thing as eating too many eggs? “For most healthy adults, about one egg per day, or seven eggs per week, is a reasonable evidence-based target. The American Heart Association’s dietary cholesterol advisory says healthy individuals can include up to one whole egg per day as part of a heart-healthy dietary pattern, and that older adults with normal cholesterol may be able to include up to two eggs per day,” Katz says.

Considering that most people cook two to three eggs for an egg-centric breakfast, the recommendation of eating one a day can be confusing. This is when it’s more helpful to consider the seven-egg-a-week guideline. That means it’s considered healthy to have two eggs for breakfast three times a week, and to integrate another egg into another one of your meals sometime throughout the week.

If you like to eat one to two eggs for breakfast every day, both registered dietitians say that this is perfectly fine, as long as the rest of your diet is low in saturated fats. (That means going easy on foods like red meat, dairy and fried foods). Especially if you have high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, obesity or are at risk for cardiovascular disease, Katz says that it’s important to be mindful of your saturated fat intake.

Katz also emphasizes that it’s important to pair eggs with other nutrient-rich foods; they are not a balanced meal on their own. “The health impact of eggs depends a lot on the meal they are part of. I usually recommend pairing eggs with fiber-rich foods, like vegetables, avocado, beans, fruit or whole-grain toast, rather than making the plate mostly processed meat and refined carbohydrates. That keeps eggs in the context of a heart-healthy, nutrient-dense meal pattern,” she says.

If you’re eating more than two eggs a day every single day, both registered dietitians say that’s when you want to think more about what other nutrient-rich foods you could be missing out on. Eggs are certainly healthy, but there are many other delicious, nutritious foods too. A diet that contains a wide range of nutrient-rich foods will provide the body with a better mix of nutrients than eating the same foods every single day.

If you’re an egg-lover, rest assured that you can keep eggs as your go-to breakfast for most of the week. Just don’t forget about all the other nutritious foods out there.
