Christine's Crittersl include this incredible Bald Eagle, Aurora. Apparently, Aurora has been trying to bring fish-flops into style for a long time. She dons them almost every time someone gives her a fish, unless they give it to her in her favorite lunch spot.

They love seeing her fish-flops, so something tells me they typically don't give it to her in her favorite spot. So, when they don't, she picks it up with her huge talons and walks on it until she gets there. Not only is it super fashionable and funny, but it's also smart.

Some people are concerned about her talon straps, but they're for her own safety. This is a wildlife rescue, so these birds (and other critters) can't live in the wild. If Aurora was to take flight and leave, things wouldn't end well for her.

How Eagles Protect Their Food

Aurora's fish-flops are the best way to transport her food, and they're the best way to keep it safe. She's doing the best she can!

If an Eagle is going to move their food to eat it, whether they're eating it themselves or sharing it with their young, they're going to use their feet. It's much more efficient than using their beaks, because it:

• Offers security: they can pierce it with their talons to keep it steady.
• Helps defense: no smaller bird is going to try to wrestle a fish from those talons.
• Allows them to carry larger prey than with just their beaks.

The stereotype that cats are antisocial is exactly that, a stereotype. Cats can be incredibly affectionate, especially with each other.

Analia Serebrenik, who goes by @analia383 on TikTok, is a mom to two adorable cats, Fil andDoja. Doja does not have eyes, rendering her fully blind. The little sounds Fil makes for Doja are distinct and not at all like a typical meow from your average cat. They're clearly specifically for her. Analia hypothesized in the video that they're his way of letting his sister know he's making sure he's watching over her.

What Cat Vocalizations Mean

Chirping can indicate excitement, trilling is a kind of a greeting, and the typical meow is the most common way cats communicate with humans. Yowling or howling is a sign of distress, something more high-pitched and sharp can mean they're surprised, and if your cat growls they're certainly telling you to "back off."

Most pet owners become incredibly tuned in to the different ways their animals communicate. It's pretty remarkable when you can learn the language that your pets have with each on top of the language that they use with you.

This has to do with the strong bonds these social, extremely intelligent birds form with their human "flock," making it easy-peasy to remember our faces, routines, and voices. Some Parrots might hold a grudge and show it when reunited with a parent, but others are just thrilled to see them again.

No matter where you live, there's a good chance you're going to see at least some evidence of wildlife when you go outside. On Wednesday, May 20, ABC News shared this clip of a man who discovered an albino squirrel scampering up a tree while he was outdoors in London. Not exactly where you'd expect a sighting like this to take place, but it really did happen!

Since the squirrel lives in a big city, it's not surprising to see that they weren't really bothered by a human noticing them, allowing us to get a really good look at their beautiful white fur (and precious face).

How Rare Are Albino Squirrels?

True albino squirrels are pretty rare, so this man was right to be in awe when he spotted one in the wild. Many experts agree that the chances that an albino squirrel will be born to a gray squirrel is about 1 in 100,000, so that explains why they're so uncommon.

Location also matters when it comes to the likelihood of spotting these beautiful creatures. One website dedicated to the wildlife of the Smoky Mountains points out that certain areas are home to albino squirrel colonies. They seem to flock to urban areas out of safety, since there are less predators who can reach them in the middle of a big city!

Also, don't forget that white squirrels are actually a thing, so not every white squirrel you spot will have albinism.

How to Tell If a Squirrel Is Albino

A true albino squirrel will have pink eyes (like the one in the video), while a white squirrel will have dark-colored eyes. These squirrels are called leucystic squirrels, which have less skin pigmentation thanks to their genetics but not a total absence of pigmentation like those with albinism.

So keep your eyes open while you're taking a walk in the park, because you might just be lucky enough to spot one of these little beauties.

In the TikTok from @gunnertheenglishbully, the precious pooch spotted the stroller from across the room and wanted to get cozy. He tried to hoist himself up from the floor but realized it was too high. Strategically finding another approach, Gunner jumped on the coach and was able to start stepping in the stroller.

Everything was going well with his front paws, but it got a bit dicey when he had to bring over his back end. Gunner shimmied, wiggled, and rearranged his body like a canine contortionist. The Bulldog beauty's determination was admirable, showing no signs of giving up until he accomplished his goal.

Finally, Gunner situated himself in the stroller. Though the fit was a bit snug, he achieved his goal. Gunner held out his paw to his mom for a high five in a show of victory.

A terrified cat trapped inside an enormous drain had rescuers in Malaysia scrambling to find a way to reach it. After an initial attempt didn’t work, the group of firefighters came up with a clever new plan—and what happened next had everyone on pins and needles.

It’s unclear how the cat became stranded in Selangor, Malaysia, but the outcome could have been much worse without the persistence of the local “abang bomba” (a colloquial term for firefighters) in saving it.

Firefighters first tried lowering an open, upside-down umbrella to scoop up the cat to safety, but when the critter couldn't be coaxed inside, they quickly changed course. One rescuer carefully climbed down into the drain with a bucket that was lowered alongside him, and moments later, the frightened feline was gently placed inside and gingerly hoisted to safety.

The barking inside the house is almost overwhelming at first.

Tiny dogs crowd every corner of the home, climbing over debris and one another while rescuers work carefully through heartbreaking conditions to save as many animals as possible.

TikTok user @nc5nashville shared footage from a massive rescue operation in Rutherford County, Tennessee, where Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) stepped in to save more than 100 vulnerable dogs living in severe overcrowding and neglect.

According to ARC, Rescuers Ultimately Removed:

• 133 Chihuahuas
• 1 large dog
• 12 cats

...from the property during what they called “Operation Little Dogs, Big Hearts.”

The rescue team first responded after family members sought help for elderly relatives who could no longer properly care for the animals or keep them safely in the home.

But when ARC arrived, responders quickly realized the situation was far worse than expected.

The Organization Described:

• Severe overcrowding
• Dangerous, unsanitary conditions
• Floors covered in accumulated feces
• Animals showing signs of stress and aggression
• Serious, untreated medical conditions

Some of the Dogs Reportedly Suffered From:

• Fight injuries
• Respiratory distress
• Tumors
• Eye infections and ulcers
• Severe dental disease
• Congestive heart failure

Several pregnant dogs, nursing mothers, and vulnerable puppies were rescued first during an emergency assessment before teams returned days later to remove every remaining animal from the property.

One especially emotional detail involved four puppies born after intake at the ARC Rescue Center. Tragicall,y only one survived, though rescuers say the surviving puppy is now beginning to thrive.

People watching the rescue online were emotional not only about the suffering the dogs endured, but also about seeing them finally receive care and compassion.

Many commenters immediately asked how they could adopt one of the rescued Chihuahuas.

ARC Explained:

• “We don’t adopt out directly from our shelter.”
• Once healthy, the animals will be transferred to rescue and adoption partners across the country.

Gojo the Ragdoll could join The Nutcracker in an instant; her leaps are so good! She loves her feather toy, which is one of the most iconic cat toys ever. Even the laziest cats love toys like this: it's just impossible not to want to jump after it!

Gojo typically doesn't practice her ballet unless the feather toy is out, but that's all part of training. As she gets older, she'll learn to dance on her own, and then her career on Broadway can really begin.

How often Dachshunds need haircuts depends on the type of hair they have.

Smooth-haired and Wirehaired Dachshunds are a bit more low-maintenance pups when it comes to haircut maintenance than Longhaired Dachshunds.

Because Longhaired Dachshunds have long, silky coats, they require regular brushing to prevent matting and tangles.

Regular haircuts should also be in a rotation of about every six to eight weeks, as well as frequent baths.

Caring for Baby Lambs

Taking care of a baby lamb is actually more labor intensive and technical than most people might think. Newborn lambs must consume up to two ounces of colostrum per pound of body weight within the first 12 hours of being born for vital antibodies that are critical to their immune system. If it's not coming from mom, a colostrum replacer from a human via a bottle is necessary. On top of this, it's highly important that they stay warm and their body temperature does not drop below 99° Fahrenheit, especially before eating.

If a mother isn't able to care for their lamb for whatever reason, a bottle feeding schedule and regimen is necessary for at least the first two weeks of the lamb's life. Humans should choose a quality milk replacer, feed the lamb every four hours, and keep an eye on them to ensure they aren't getting bloated which can be both uncomfortable and dangerous. Around two weeks of age, solid foods like pellets and hay can begin to be introduced into the baby lamb's diet. Lambs can be weaned off of milk once they're strong enough, typically around 30 pounds or within 30 days.

"The Cane Corso’s tendency toward aggression can be problematic, too," Hunt says. "For many beginners, this is a breed that can feel more challenging than expected without experienced handling, which is why it's not thought of as a beginner-friendly dog."

However, Hunt says this medium-to-large size dog breed is known for its independence and originally bred as a guardian, making it inherently aloof. Because its temperament, vets say it can be a challenging breed for first-time dog owners and one of the hardest dog breeds for beginners.

For many new pet parents, this is a breed that can catch owners off guard with how reserved it is in daily life. "This breed tends to bond with one person, possibly a few at most, but they regard all other humans with wariness,” Hunt reveals. “Chows are generally not considered to be good family dogs as a result of their wary and potentially aggressive behavior,” she adds.

This doesn’t mean the Chow Chow can’t be a great dog—it’s just unlikely to be a good fit for a first-time owner, especially those who don’t expect a dog that is more independent and less social than most popular breeds people choose for families.

If you live on a farm or area with a lot of land where your dog can roam and run, this herding breed may be a good fit. But, otherwise, this breed is unlikely to be a good match for a first-timer. "The average owner is not able to meet these dogs’ needs for exercise and mental stimulation, and as a result, they can develop behavioral problems,” Hunt says.

Teacup Yorkshire Terrier A tiny, high-maintenance breed that requires careful handling.

So, if you're a first-time dog owner and want a small dog, the Teacup Yorkshire Terrier may not be the rigth match for you.

While extremely popular due to its tiny size, vets often list these teacup breeds among the worst dog breeds for first-time owners because of its fragility and care needs.

These pups are a smaller version of the classic Yorkshire Terrier, weighs under four pounds and is a high-maintenance dog breed to look after. “Teacup Yorkshire Terriers are not good dogs for inexperienced owners,” Hunt says. “If one of these teacup dogs jumps from an owner’s arms to the ground, they can fracture both of their front legs, requiring corrective surgery.” 

If you like the idea of a Teacup Yorkshire Terrier but are a first-time owner, Hunt suggests looking into a regular Yorkshire Terrier or other small dog breed. These are still petite, but are slightly more hearty.

The Russell Terrier is considered one of the highest-energy dog breeds you can get, which many people don't realize. While regular walks, trips to the dog park and runs will help offset some of that, they like to explore off-leash too. That just requires plenty of training first to ensure the safety of your pet—and most first-time dog owners aren’t up for the task, making this small breed surprisingly difficult to have and not ideal for beginners.

“A Bulldog's face shape causes varying degrees of respiratory compromise,” Hunt says. “Because panting is how dogs dissipate most of their heat, a dog with respiratory compromise is perpetually at risk of heat stroke.”

These medium-sized dogs also have skin folds on their face, and sometimes body, that are prone to developing skin infections. These pups require careful management and care as a result, Hunt says, making this a breed that require more experience than beginners realize.

Border Collies are used to being the smartest creature in the field, and honestly, they usually are.
