Mark Hamill Pays Heartfelt Tribute to Late ‘Star Wars’ Voice Actor Tom Kane

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 12:27pm

Legendary Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamillhas posted a touching tribute to Star Warsvoice actor Tom Kane, who passed away on May 18 at the age of 64.

Among the roles Kane voiced over his many years with Star Wars were Jedi Master Yoda, the narrator of the TV series Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Admiral Yularen, Qui-Gon Jinn and many more.

In addition to his Star Wars roles, Kane was the voice of Professor Utonium in the popular cartoon The Powerpuff Girls, which began in 1998 and ran until 2005.

Following Kane's passing, Hamill shared a post from igndotcom, featuring a tribute to Kane, on his Instagram story. Along with the post, Hamill wrote, "...there will never be another one quite like him," along with "#DEVASTATED."

The igndotcom post that Hamill shared is also flooded with comments from fans of Kane's many roles. One commenter wrote, "thank you for being the voice of one of the best cartoon dads as professor utonium on the powerpuff girls and being one of the best Yoda voices other then frank Oz you will be missed," and another said, "Thank you sir for the wonderful childhood 🫡."

The comments also highlight a number of other roles that Kane had throughout his several decades of work, from Takeo in Call of Duty to Lord Monkey Fist (and others) in Kim Possible.

Since Kane's passing was announced, other costars have also posted tributes, including the voice actresses from The Powerpuff Girls.

Cathy Cavadini, who was the original voice actor for Blossom on the show, shared an Instagram post with a lengthy message honoring Kane, which included, among other comments, "My heart is aching. Today, we lost one of the best humans on the planet. Tom Kane passed away surrounded by his loving wife, Cindy, and his family. Tom was not only a truly gifted, incredible, and prolific voice actor, but one of the most genuine and kind people I have ever known."

Likewise, Tara Strong, who voiced Bubbles on the original Powerpuff Girls show, shared a similarly long Instagram post that read, among other things, "They say there’s no such thing as a perfect man…those people never met #TomKane. I’ve never in my life met a sweeter soul or a better human being."

E. G. Daily, who voiced the third sister, Buttercup, also posted a tribute, hers reading, "It is with heavy sad hearts to share our amazing #powerpuffgirls father @tkanevo has passed #RIP We love you Tom and your beautiful wife Cindy and children. The world will miss you 💔 #yoda #professorutonium."

'Grey's Anatomy' Gets an 'Edgy' Spin-Off & Fans Have a Theory

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 12:26pm

The drama at the Seattle hospital in Grey's Anatomy will continue in the upcoming season 23. It's a huge feat considering the original show outlasted the spin-off, Private Practice, which took place in Los Angeles.

The firefighter spin-off Station 19 is still going strong, and now there is a new show set in the Grey's Anatomy universe in a different state.

ABC is adding a new medical show for the 2026-2027 season, according to Variety. Shonda Rhimesis co-creator with showrunner Meg Marinis. Ellen Pompeo will act as executive producer.

Related: ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Fans Are Divided on Whether Teddy and Owen Are Meant to Be Together

The new series doesn't have a title yet, but is described as "an edgy drama about a team at a West Texas rural medical center — the last chance for care before miles of nowhere." It's unclear which, if any, Grey's Anatomy characters will be at the center of the show.

The idea somewhat follows the trend of successful Western shows on cable. Yellowstonehas wrapped up, and the spin-offs, Dutton Ranch and Marshals, further the characters' stories. The rural setting is a change of pace for the Grey's Anatomy universe, which has been set in cities.

The major update comes after season 22's finale. The episode was Owen Hunt's (Kevin McKidd) and Teddy Altman's (Kim Raver) last episode. McKidd said he felt like it was time to leave the character after his introduction in season 5.

Fans reacted to the news under Rhimes' Instagram post. They already have a theory about the show's characters. "Soooo Levi is back?" one fan asked. Levi Schmitt (Jake Borelli) left Seattle for Texas for a research position, and hopefully will go into peds afterward. His boyfriend, James Morgan (Michael Thomas Grant), joined him for the new adventure.

Fans will have to wait to see if their theory is correct.

One U.S. Airport Is Letting Travelers Skip the Terminal Security Line Entirely

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 12:20pm

Flying out of Logan International Airport may soon look very different for some travelers—especially when it comes to one of the airport’s most dreaded steps.

Starting June 1, select passengers flying through Boston Logan will be able to clear TSA security before they even arrive at the airport thanks to a brand-new remote terminal pilot program launching in Framingham, Massachusetts.

The first-of-its-kind initiative in the United States is being rolled out by Massachusetts Port Authority (Massport), and is designed to help travelers skip terminal security lines entirely.

How the new TSA process works

Instead of heading straight to Logan, eligible passengers can check in, drop their bags, and ease through TSA screening at a remote terminal outside of the city. From there, they’ll board a secure shuttle bus that takes them directly to the airport, arriving beyond the security checkpoint and at their designated gate.

“Passengers in and around Metro West now have a new, low-stress way to reach Boston Logan,” said Massport CEORich Davey. “Imagine arriving at the airport having already checked in and cleared security and then being dropped off just steps from your gate.”

Who can use it?

The pilot will initially only be available to passengers flying with Delta Air Lines and JetBlue Airways during select daytime hours. The service costs $9 each way, and officials recommend booking reservations in advance due to limited availability.

Massport says the program is not only intended to make flying less stressful, but also to reduce traffic congestion and emissions by encouraging travelers to avoid driving directly to the airport.

The announcement comes shortly after Logan also rolled out real-time TSA wait times through its website and FlyLogan app—another recent attempt to streamline travel during increasingly busy airport seasons.

How to get a ticket

Passengers interested in using the new remote terminal service can reserve a spot directly through Massport’s website. Travelers will need to select their airline, enter their flight details, and choose the number of tickets needed for their group.

After the information is entered, the system recommends the best shuttle based on the flight’s departure time. According to Massport, each bus is scheduled to arrive at Logan International Airport at least 45 minutes before takeoff. The website states reservations can be made anywhere from 90 days to 90 minutes before departure, though travelers are encouraged to book early.

Sour Patch Kids’ New Chews Have Fans Doing a Double Take at the Texture

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 12:17pm

The mouth-puckering little fellows you know and love are getting a glow-up. Sour Patch Kids just debuted brand-new “Chews,” and the updated version of this classic candy is getting plenty of attention.

Forget about what you think Sour Patch Kids are. Yes, the name of sugar-coated confection is premised on the fact that the individual candies are shaped like “kids.” But with this new product, the brand is throwing all of your preconceptions out the window.

Instead of sweet on the inside, sour on the outside, teeny tiny sort-of stickman-shaped gummies, the latest creation takes the opposite approach. The Chews have a not-so-subtly sweet exterior and a tangy burst of sourness inside.

Why the change? After all, Sour Patch Kids have been around for decades, and it doesn’t seem like candy connoisseurs have complaints. Senior Director, Candy, Mondelez International, Lauryn McDonough, explained, “We know consumers want new textures and experiences when they’re in the candy aisle, so we saw an opportunity to bring Sour Patch Kids' signature sour to the world of chewy candy in a new and unique way.”

As it turns out, this shake-up started with you…the candy customer. McDonough continued, “After talking to Sour Patch Kids consumers, we learned that Sour Patch Kids Chews are what today’s consumers are after — you can sink your teeth into them, there’s a bold sensorial experience, and the texture is just right.”

When Can You Get the New Sour Patch Kids Chews?

Depending on where you live, you could have already picked up this sweet treat. Look for 1.9-ounce, 2.1-ounce, 5.1-ounce, and 8.1-ounce size bags of the chewy, flipped version of the OG in a store near you now. The new Chews are available in the same classic flavors fans already enjoy, including Blue Raspberry, Redberry, Lemon, Lime, and Orange. But wait. There’s more.

In honor of the Chews, Sour Patch Kids just teamed up with some of the top gaming streamers (Cinna, Typical Garner, Gleam, DOUGDOUG, JeromeASF, Juliankins, PartyArlie, and Caryn and Connie) for a YouTube and Twitch livestream event from May through June.

Viewers can join in during interactive Mischief Mode moments and get the chance to win some pretty amazing prizes. One Grand Prize winner will receive a Sour Patch Kids-branded box, a custom-branded Xbox controller, a hoodie, socks, and of course, Sour Patch Kids Chews!

'Little House on the Prairie' Star Bonnie Bartlett Admits to Months-Long Affair With 'Boring' Actor

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 12:16pm

Boy Meets World star William Daniels and Little House on the Prairie star Bonnie Bartlett are ready to celebrate 75 years of marriage. Bartlett once revealed having had an affair at the start of their marriage, with a new interview clarifying their "open marriage."

According to her memoir, Middle of the Rainbow, the actor admitted her affair lasted for months and started a few years into her marriage to Daniels. The two actors got married in 1951 after having originally met as students at university. Her book details that she was looking for a "kinder and gentler" man in 1959 and started an affair with a "slightly boring" actor.

Who the actor in question is, fans might never know, as Bartlett doesn't divulge the person's name. She did admit that "the sex was good." She also adds that she "never felt guilty" because she didn't feel "tied to fidelity." The same also applied to Daniels, as the couple reportedly had an open marriage.

Things changed when Williams had his own affair in the '70s with a producer that "devastated" the Little House on the Prairie actor. It pushed her to realize that she couldn't "tolerate" seeing other people during their marriage.

Ahead of their 75th wedding anniversary, Daniels and Bartlett spoke with the Daily Mail, clearing up the confusion about their open marriage.

“There was never any discussion as to what we were going to do, but in 75 years, the two of you together, you know, it would be abnormal if you … weren’t attracted occasionally to other people,” she shared, adding that “there have been times, yeah, both of us, on both sides.”

Bartlett added that she and Daniels never sat down to talk about those things or sat down to "make rules." They simply lived their lives based on their work and what worked best for them. She admits that their lives went on, but "never got unhinged," and their lives did "go in different directions occasionally."

Daniels and Bartlett are the oldest active married couple in Hollywood, with the Boy Meets World star having celebrated his 99th birthday in late March. The St. Elsewhere star will soon celebrate her 96th birthday on June 20. The two actors have two adopted sons and four grandchildren.

Legendary 2000s Rock Band Shocks Fans by Playing Beloved Song for First Time in 18 Years

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 12:16pm

There's arguably no better feeling than when you're seeing your favorite band perform live and they add your most beloved track to the setlist. That's exactly what happened this weekend when a legendary 2000s rock band made one fan's dream come true when they played a certain song live for the first time in almost two decades.

On May 16, Florida rockers Shinedown made history during their stop in Madison, Wis., when they honored a request to play a track that they hadn't previously performed for 8 years.

At around halfway through the set, the musicians made the shock announcement.

"Now it's about to get really interesting," the band's vocalist, Brent Smith, said as the crew was switching out Zach Myers' guitar.

"A young man by the name of Anthony asked us to play a song earlier," Myers added.

"Real quick, before you say anything. We don't do this for anyone," Smith continued, addressing the fan in the crowd. "Anthony, you are the number one tonight, my brother. You are the number one, my man."

Myers went on to explain that the band hadn't played the song live for 18 years, and that Anthony's request "made our monitor engineer the happiest guy on earth."

"Hey, if this falls apart, I hope you still have a good time tonight, cause it probably will," he continued.

The song in question? "Junkies for Fame," a bonus track that appeared on the deluxe edition of one of the band's most popular records, The Sound of Madness. Released in 2008, the album reached No. 8 on the Billboard 200 chart.

The band is currently touring North America in honor of their eighth studio album, Ei8ht, which will be released on May 29. Kicking off in Greenbay, Wis., on May 13, the tour stops in dozens of major cities across the U.S. and Canada, before concluding in McHenry, Ill., on Sept. 10. Support comes from Coheed and Cambria, Those Damn Crows, Black Stone Cherry, and From Ashes to New, varying by date.

"This album is over a year in the making. Without question as a band we pushed ourselves like never before," Smith said of Ei8ht, per LoudWire. "Especially when it comes to Eric [Bass].”

The 'Queen of the Beach Read' Elin Hilderbrand Praises New 2026 Novel: 'This Book Is Perfect'

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 12:12pm

Elin Hilderbrand just finished The Reservation by Rebecca Kauffman, and she wanted her 231,000 Instagram followers to know about it immediately.

'Who doesn't love a good restaurant novel?' the #1 New York Times bestselling author wrote. 'THE RESERVATION by Rebecca Kauffman is a delight — it's clever and engaging as we hear the story of one night at a midwestern college town restaurant from the points of view of the staff, owner and one very special customer. This book is PERFECT for any book hangover.' Hilderbrand added that she came to the novel on the recommendation of fellow author Emma Straub.

View this post on Instagram

Hilderbrand, often called the 'Queen of the Beach Read,' has more than 20 million books sold worldwide and regularly uses her platform to champion novels she loves. Her endorsement landed on a book that has already collected a year's worth of serious critical heat.

The Reservation, Kauffman's sixth novel, published February 24, 2026, is set at Aunt Orsa's, the finest restaurant in a Midwestern college town, on the morning the most important booking in its history is set to begin. When the operations assistant discovers 22 ribeye steaks have been stolen, and a wave of hostile online reviews simultaneously begins appearing, suspicion spreads through every corner of the staff. No one is above suspicion, not the Mennonite baker, the tattooed chef de cuisine, the various servers, or the inexperienced undergrad working as hostess.

The novel rotates chapter by chapter through each employee's point of view, building a portrait of the people who keep a restaurant running before the dinner service ever begins. The day in question is the one when John Grisham is set to attend a dinner at the restaurant, which raises the stakes for everyone already trying to manage the chaos of the theft.

The critical response has been broad and enthusiastic. Publishers Weekly gave it a starred review, calling it a pitch-perfect mash-up of Clueand The Bear.BookPage called it an observant, witty, and wry delight, and advised readers not to pick it up while hungry. Emma Straub, who pointed Hilderbrand toward the book in the first place, praised it on The TodayShow, saying fans of The Bear who find that show too stressful will love it.

Kauffman received her MFA in creative writing from New York University and is the author of five previous novels, including Another Place You've Never Been, The Gunners, The House on Fripp Island, Chorus, and I'll Come to You. She lives in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.

Kauffman's talent for portraying large ensembles of sympathetic characters, launching multiple individuals through a single compressed timeframe, has drawn comparisons to the work of Elizabeth Strout and Jennifer Egan. The Reservation was named a best new book by People and a most anticipated book of the year by Southern Living.

For readers still in the fog of finishing a book they loved, Hilderbrand's prescription is simple. This one fixes it.

Hilary Duff Reveals Why ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Came Along at the Perfect Time

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 12:05pm

Hilary Duff became a teen idol sensation 25 years ago by starring in the hit Disney Channel comedy series Lizzie McGuire. Since then, she has remained in the public eye as a formidable talent and a relatable girl-next-door, especially for the Millennial generation who grew up with her. On an episode of The Jennifer Hudson Show, Duff reflected on the show's cultural impact and the lasting significance of her iconic role.

"I could talk about the psychology behind this for a long time," Duff begins. "I think that Lizzie McGuire came out at the right time for an entire generation of people who needed to see themselves in someone safe — someone that was not flailing, but figuring out life. She was learning lessons, but she was also, you know, not really always fitting in. I think she just tapped that friend box of people who were also in the same boat as her."

Duff starred in Lizzie McGuire for two seasons from 2001 to 2004, as well as in the spinoff film The Lizzie McGuire Movie in 2003. Since then, she has built an impressive career as a global superstar, with credits in film, television, music, and entrepreneurship.

Reflecting on her journey from a Texas upbringing to Hollywood and beyond, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover star admits she has known little else besides life in the spotlight. "I don't remember before 9 years old. It's been a relationship for sure. It's this weird part of my life that's like the only thing I know," she tells Hudson when asked about her current relationship with fame. "I don't know who I would be with that element removed, you know? There's some days where it's hard to walk into the grocery store. People are always looking at you, or kind of aware of what you're doing, and that doesn't always feel great."

Along with navigating fame and being a household name, Duff also manages motherhood with humor and honesty. She shares that while her younger children—Townes, Mae, and Banks—see her as a cool mom, she’s still working to convince her teenage son, Luca, of the same.

"My little ones are my number one fans. They want to be at all the shows—it's so cute. But my teenager... I think he doesn’t think I'm totally embarrassing. Some of his friends at school go out of their way to talk to me, and I’m like, 'Luca, look at all your friends right now. They’ve definitely seen me on TikTok. So, that is cool.'"

Either way, Hilary Duff remains on the move, delighting her loyal fans and family with her nearly sold-out "the lucky me" tour. The tour will continue into 2027, with performances scheduled around the globe.

No matter which style you choose, you're still getting a fantastic deal, paying under $20 for supportive running shoes that compare to well-known brands.

These shoes feature flyknit uppers with elastic gore creating a convenient slip-on style you can put on hands-free. They have memory foam insoles that cushion every step and non-marking outsoles with textured bottoms for extra grip. Sizes run on the half from men's 7.5 through 13, and select colors are available in wide widths.

Despite being men's shoes, several female reviewers raved that they are "good for women who need wide footwear." I've purchased men's footwear for myself before and would suggest subtracting two whole sizes from your usual women's shoe size to get the proper fit, as these sneakers run slightly large.

Shoppers were impressed by how much value these sneakers offered compared to pricier styles, with many people noting that they've purchased multiple pairs. "They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, better than a $200 pair, that’s for sure," one shopper said, calling them "just as nice" as well-known brands.

A reviewer who previously returned popular name-brand slip-ons because they were uncomfortable purchased this Athletic Works pair instead to wear during recovery from surgery. "I love them," they raved, adding that "they look good, are easy to put on and take off, and are very comfortable." One shopper who described them as "super lightweight" said they wore these sneakers daily on a week-long cruise and experienced no foot pain or fatigue.

How to Watch the First 10 Minutes of 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' Right Now

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 11:57am

The jig is up and the reviews are out. Star Wars' latest movie is about to hit theaters.

Until then, video gamers can enjoy the first 10 minutes of The Mandalorian and Grogu thanks to an ongoing collaboration between Epic Games and the Lucasfilm franchise, Variety reports.

Tuesday, May 19 marks official launch of The Mandalorian and Grogu Watch Party Island on Fortnite. Plus, on May 26, director Jon Favreau will appear on the island’s amphitheater for a Q&A.

The new Fortnite Island “drops you into Nevarro with your friends," Favreau, 59, shared in a video last month during a special preview, per Variety. "The team that designed and built the sets from the film were also deeply involved with creating our island from Nevarro Main Street to the Imperial Safe House and more."

“On The Mandalorian, everything comes back to detail... materials, lighting, sound," Favreau told the magazine in a statement. "They’re what make the world feel real. Our team at Fairview Portals brought those elements together with Lucasfilm and Epic in Fortnite to recreate the tone and texture of that world, inviting players to a new way to step into it.”

Star Wars endures because it inspires imagination across generations," James Waugh, senior vice president of franchise content and strategy at Lucasfilm, also told Variety. "Bringing that spirit into Fortnite creates new ways for fans to explore their own creativity, building and sharing experiences that reflect what the galaxy means to them and how they connect with it.”

The game allows up to 12 players to work together to defend the city against Imperial forces. Per Variety, players can spend time with Grogu and help him on small quests. Those who spend 20 minutes in the island experience can unlock the exclusive Mandalorian Sanctuary Loading Screen, featuring concept art from the film.

Meanwhile, early reviews and the current Rotten Tomatoes scores for the movie suggest that not everyone loved it. Shockingly, despite fanfare around the movie, The Mandalorian and Grogu’s critic Rotten Tomatoes score is 61%, although that’s likely to fluctuate.

New Murder Mystery Named in Barnes & Noble’s ‘Best Books of June’ Is Drawing Major Buzz

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 11:57am

A billionaire’s murder, five genius heirs and a mansion full of secrets are helping turn "The Heirs" into one of the buzziest new mystery novels of the summer.

The new novel by bestselling author Faridah Àbíké-Íyímídé was recently featured in Barnes & Noble’s “Best Books of June” roundup, with the retailer highlighting the book’s high-stakes family drama and locked-room mystery setup.

The novel follows the five adopted children of billionaire Leontes Button, each raised under their father’s brutal “Button Method,” an experiment designed to transform children into elite prodigies.

There’s Octavius the Maestro. Fola the Brain. Bilal the Olympian. Perdita the Artist. Romeo the Failure.

But everything changes when their father is murdered during his lavish annual Prodigy Ball.

Now trapped inside the sprawling Button Manor while police investigate the killing, the siblings are forced to confront not only the mystery surrounding their father’s death, but the dangerous secrets they’ve all been hiding.

Barnes & Noble described the novel as “perfect for fans of 'The Inheritance Games,' 'Umbrella Academy,' and 'Knives Out,'” while praising its tangled family dynamics and murder-mystery intrigue.

The retailer is also selling a special edition featuring stained page edges, a detail that has already helped the book gain traction among BookTok and collector communities.

Àbíké-Íyímídé first broke out with her 2021 thriller "Ace of Spades," which became a New York Times bestseller and won the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work for Youth/Teens.

According to Forbes, the author secured a seven-figure publishing deal while still in her early twenties after "Ace of Spades" exploded internationally. The publication recently named her to its 30 Under 30 list for 2026.

Part of what has helped "The Heirs" stand out is the vivid personality of its sprawling cast.

On Instagram, Àbíké-Íyímídé introduced readers to each of the heirs individually, describing Fola as a “Type A eldest daughter” and chess genius, while calling Octavius the family’s “chaotic middle child” and “scene disruptor.”

The author also revealed that Romeo, the sibling cruelly labeled “the Failure,” may be the emotional core of the novel.

“I think he is my thesis statement,” Àbíké-Íyímídé wrote on Instagram. “I hope everyone loves him as much as I do.”

The book’s mix of elite-family dysfunction, locked-room mystery and dark academia-style atmosphere has already made it one of the most talked-about thrillers heading into summer reading season.

Couple in Their 40’s ‘Doing Everything Right’ Faces $1.3 Million Tax Bomb— Here’s How They Diffused It Before Retirement

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 11:44am

They say the only guarantees in life are death and taxes. Well, one couple in their 40s just found out how quickly the ladder can come for you in retirement after their financial advisor uncovered a $1.3 million tax bomb that was set to detonate in the middle of their retirement.

The scary news is that this bomb waits for all of us. However, there is good news as well: knowing about this issue ahead of time can help you defuse the bomb while keeping more of your money in your pocket. Here's what you need to know.

A Couple in Their 40s Learned They Would Owe the IRS $1.3 Million at 75

A pair of 40-somethings named Robert and Carrie called into the Money Guy Show, where they explained how they were shocked to learn they had a big tax bill waiting for them down the road.

According to the couple, they had been setting aside as much money as they could in pre-tax retirement accounts, beefing up their portfolio until it stretched into seven figures. But when their financial advisor did the math, their dream retirement came crashing down around them as they learned of the looming nightmare tax implications for their accounts.

Required Minimum Distributions Change Your Tax Bracket

The reason this couple will owe so much is Required Minimum Distributions (RMDs), which kick in at age 75. RMDs mainly affect those with larger 401(k) and IRA accounts, since they require people to start taking minimum distributions at age 75, whether they need the money or not.

But the real kicker is that you'll pay more for those distributions, because your tax bracket can jump from 12 to 32 percent when you hit this milestone, according to Yahoo! Finance. That is a lot of money to pay out, especially if you've been saving for a while.

Roth Conversions Could Save You Money

So, what should you do if you don't want to cut a massive check to Uncle Sam? Begin executing Roth conversions prior to your 75th birthday. The best time to start doing this is earlier in your life, since SmartAsset notes that you'll need to follow certain tax rules when making these conversions.

For example, converting traditional retirement funds to Roth assets will trigger an income tax bill at the time you make the conversion. Additionally, you'll want to keep an eye on how much money you're moving around, since converting large sums could push you into a higher tax bracket, increasing your income tax bill.

While there are no real conversion "limits" per year, it's clear you'll need to be strategic about how you move your money to avoid extra costs. Partnering with a financial advisor that you trust can help you avoid those added expenses, allowing you to save a bit more of your retirement money for your actual retirement.

Tom Cruise Had to 'Barf on Himself' in Order to Land Lead Role in 'Top Gun': 'From That Moment, He Was In'

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 11:42am

Like all the most famous movie roles, it's hard to imagine anyone else but Tom Cruise playing the daredevil pilot Maverick in Top Gun.

Perfectly matching Cruise's devil-may-care attitude and energetic personality, Cruise managed to hand in the performance a lifetime with his starring role in 1986's Top Gun and its belated sequel Top Gun: Maverick.

In its earliest production phase, however, screenwriter Jack Epps Jr. revealed that he had some degree of trouble convincing Cruise to sign on for the film.

According to a recent interview with The Guardian, the 76-year-old Epps and producer Jerry Bruckheimer recalled some initial difficulty getting Cruise attached to the hit action blockbuster.

As per Epps, the main way they managed to convince the young actor to agree to participate in the film was by having Cruise fly with the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels, a flight demo squad that agreed to take the Outsiders star on a high-speed flight.

“We couldn't quite get him to commit so I arranged for him to fly with the Blue Angels in El Centro, California," Bruckheimer said. "He had long hair and a ponytail and they saw this guy walk up and they said, ‘We'll get this hippy a real ride.' ”

“They look at him and they don’t know who Tom Cruise is,” Epps told The Guardian. “They do what they like to do: they took him up, they shook him around, he barfed on himself, and he came out and said, ‘I love this.’ From that moment, he was on.”

The flight ended up proving a turning point in Cruise's personal and professional life, convincing him not only to portray the role of Maverick in Top Gun, but also inspiring him to acquire his own pilot's license.

From its earliest inception, Epps said he always hoped to land Cruise for the lead role in the film. “I was a Tom Cruise fan at that time — still am — so we wrote this with Tom Cruise in mind as Maverick,” Epps revealed. “I loved his movies: he's such an energetic actor, he connects with the audience.”

Here's How Traditional Retirement Planning Is Actually Failing Retirees Regularly

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 11:38am

As a new generation of retirees leaves the workforce, they are finding new and different problems when they enter retirement. And while some of that has to do with individual challenges, many retirees are actually running into headaches because they followed more traditional retirement advice.

Of course, that traditional advice remains popular because it has served so many seniors in the past. However, modern retirees are facing new problems that those before them didn't have to, and many feel they are being set up for failure. But the news isn't all bad. Learning about the issues many retirees face today can help you prepare. Keep reading to learn more.

Retirees Are Living Longer

While you may not think that longevity is a problem in retirement, especially if you have big plans for your second act, today's retirees report that they are outliving their savings.

According to a report from Western & Southern Financial Group, 43 percent of the people surveyed said they didn't think they would have enough money to last 30 years, which is the average length people live past retirement.

Some of that has to do with the shrinking Social Security balance, which the National Institute on Retirement Security says typically accounts for about half of a retiree's budget.

Costs Are Going Up

It's hardly a secret that prices are going up everywhere, from the grocery store to the gas station. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.6 percent in April 2026, with the cost of housing and energy getting a special shoutout.

Energy prices have been making headlines ever since the U.S. got involved in the conflict in Iran, which has resulted in the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. As a result, global fuel prices have risen, affecting just about everything.

And while some retirees may have added a little extra padding to their funds for surprise costs like this, an ongoing war in Iran could drain those funds even faster, especially if the U.S. continues to have a strained relationship with other global leaders, which could cause additional price increases, as we've seen with tariffs.

The Housing Crisis is Hitting Seniors

Another obvious issue facing seniors includes the cost of housing. While those who own their own homes may feel confident in their savings strategy, especially if they've paid off their homes before they retire, real estate taxes continue to be a burden for retirees.

The data analytics firm ATTOM says the tax rate for single-family homes nationwide was 0.9 percent in 2025, up from 0.86 percent in 2024. With an average home value of $494,231, that amounts to $4,427 in real estate taxes. When you consider high-cost of living areas where housing prices are higher, and those areas where school taxes are collected separately, you can be looking at thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars in taxes alone.

Climate Change Makes Life More Expensive

Unstable weather patterns and more extreme storms are driving up homeowners' insurance rates nationwide, especially in areas where retirees flock.

Take Florida as an example. As of May 2026, Great Florida Insurance said the average annual homeowners insurance policy costs $11,759 in the Sunshine State. That's almost five times what you would pay in other parts of the country, making it more expensive for retirees looking to purchase a home in Florida.

And Florida isn't the only place where it's getting more expensive to insure, hurricanes, flooding, and wildfires have all caused policy prices to spike in other states, including:

  • Texas
  • California
  • South Carolina

But, the news isn't all doom and gloom. Knowing that retirees are not only living longer but also paying more to do so can help you create a retirement plan that lets you live comfortably... no matter how long your retirement lasts. Of course, your best bet will be to talk to a financial advisor about some of the challenges facing modern retirees to get some advice on what steps you can take now to ensure that you don't fall into the same trap that other retirees have and outlive your savings.

Wearing a crisp white button-down, double-starched lightwash denim, and a black cowboy hat, the troubador sounds pitch-perfect, hitting all the right notes. He even flashes the winning smile that sends fans into a frenzy. Just look to the video's comments for proof.

"I would’ve been crying the whole time as he sang this song😭😭❤️❤️," one fan commented.

"My favorite George Strait song," another wrote.

"I can listen to this on repeat all day," another said.

Beyond the voice and song choice, though, fans couldn’t stop talking about another detail of the legend's performance: his gorgeous gray hair. As the video goes in for a close-up, the “silver fox’s” hair comes into better view — its lovely shade of gray clearly visible -- and clearly also a hit with fans.

"Still crushing on him. 😍," one said.

"That man is aging like fine wine!!!!!!" another wrote.

"How is he still that fine??? 🥵," yet another commented.

Now 74, Strait is still going strong. Just two years ago, he co-headlined a historic concert at Texas A&M University’s Kyle Field in College Station, Texas, with rising star ParkerMcCollum. The two drew a crowd of more than 110,000 fans, breaking the record for largest single-ticketed performance in U.S. history, per People

McCollum, a massive George Strait fan, just became a little bit more like his hero, winning the award for Album of the Year at Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards. Strait himself has worn the same title three times.

Strait has also won Entertainer of the Year five times across two major country music award associations: the ACMs and the Country Music Association Awards.

1968 Prison Gig Ranked No. 1 in Live Country Performances

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 11:21am

Country performances stand out from other genres. The focus is usually on the instruments, lyrics, and possibly a great collaboration between artists. There was a ranking of live country performances and the one on top has a unique setting.

Johnny Cash's Folsom Prison Performance Ranked No. 1

MsMojo gave a top 10 list of the greatest live country music performances. Buck Owens & The Buckaroos placed fifth for their Carnegie Hall performance in 1966. They were the first country band to record an album in the venue.

The second was Dolly Parton saying goodbye to her collaborator Porter Wagoner with "I'll Always Love You." She was ready to step out on her own, but wanted to leave him with the sweet song. The personal song became a hit and gained new life with Whitney Houston's cover.

Johnny Cash's live recording at California's Folsom Prison on January 13, 1968, took the top spot. He was adamant about performing his album, At Folsom Prison, in the prison. That dream came true 13 years after he released the song, "Folsom Prison Blues."

His time serving in the Air Force in Germany inspired the idea when his unit watched Inside the Walls of Folsom Prison. His drummer gave another reason for his goal. "One thing he liked about playing prisons: If he did something the audience didn't like, they couldn't leave," W.S. "Fluke" Holland said, according to NPR.

The release of the album revitalized his career, which had been hurt because of his addiction. "Folsom Prison Blues" was awarded a Grammy for Best Male Vocal Performance.

The performance was entered into the Library of Congress's National Recording Registry. The album was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame. Lastly, the performance was depicted in 2005's Walk the Line starring Joaquin Phoenixas the country legend.

Hershey Quietly Debuts a Brand-New Candy Bar Based on a Classic Italian Dessert

Tue, 05/19/2026 - 11:16am

Hershey is bringing a beloved Italian staple to the sweets aisle with its latest launch. The candy giant is quietly rolling out a brand-new cream-filled chocolate bar flavor inspired by affogato—the classic Italian dessert that famously combines espresso and gelato into one rich, ultra-decadent bite.

The new bar blends Hershey’s signature milk chocolate with a creamy coffee-and-vanilla flavored filling designed to capture the vibe of an affogato: sweet, bold, creamy, and just a little fancy in the best possible way.

The sophisticated turn feels perfectly timed, as café culture continues to explode thanks to viral social media sharing platforms like TikTok, where anyone with a phone can practically become a professional barista—from the comfort of their own homes.

"Capture the essence of a cozy Italian cafe in a single, bite-sized treat with Hershey’s Affogato Snack Size Bars. These individually wrapped treats layer espresso-flavored caramel and velvety vanilla creme inside a classic milk chocolate shell. Inspired by the traditional dessert of espresso poured over gelato, these snack-sized portions deliver a sophisticated caffeine-inspired kick and creamy finish that is perfect for mid-day pick-me-ups or evening indulgences," the description reads on retailer Blair Candy's website.

View this post on Instagram

According to food insider @candyhunting on Instagram, it will be released in King Size bars in addition to the individually-wrapped Snack Size, set to release this fall. However, whether it becomes a permanent Hershey addition or disappears as a limited-edition release is unclear at this time.

Along with Affogato, there's also a Salted Caramel Creme flavor on the way, featuring milk chocolate filled with salted caramel and vanilla creme.

Fans hopped into the comments section of the May 19 post to share enthusiasm for the new drop. "Affogato! Yum," one reacted, while another is already plotting on how they'll eat it: "Affogato I would plop into the real thing. To kinda give a chocolate sauce vibe."
