Troye Sivan knows how to set the mood, and he has very specific opinions about which candle and which album should do it.

The Australian pop star is the first international host of Bumble’s dating advice series Bee Line. He answers callers’ romance questions in a new episode that dropped just ahead of the Oct. 9 release of his fourth album, She’s the Best. When one caller asked how to “curate a vibe” for her first time hosting a date at home, Sivan could barely contain himself. “I feel like that is my entire shtick,” he said.

His first rule is scent. He suggests lighting a candle 15 to 20 minutes before your date arrives, since smell is the first thing someone notices walking in. His pick is a Sassafras candle he called “woody,” “sexy” and “cozy.” What he didn’t mention is that the candle is made by Tsu Lange Yor, the home fragrance brand he launched with his brother Steele Mellet in 2023.

Next comes lighting: lamps and candles only, and absolutely no overhead lights. For food, he recommends something that smells good in the oven, but light on the onion and garlic “just in case you kiss later.” For the soundtrack, he suggested a certain new album called She’s the Best, joking that he’s heard it “gets people laid all the time.”

Sivan also handed out some tough love. One caller described a guy who says he’s never met a girl like her but has never asked her a single question. Sivan called it a major red flag and told her to “run far, fast.” He thinks corny opening lines should be skipped in favor of something specific from the person’s profile. And if your date paid last time, Sivan says dinner is on you.

The singer also told a story about a friend who called in sick to work for the first time in her life (*aka, “chuck a sicky”) to hang out with him and Dua Lipa on the beach in Perth. She got busted when she showed up in the background of paparazzi photos.

Between the candle, the playlist and the pep talk, Sivan’s episode is a lesson in setting the mood. Fans who want the full Troye treatment can stream She’s the Best now, maybe with a candle lit first.

Andy Cohen welcomed RHOC star Tamra Judge onto his show Thursday, October 15 to break down the latest on her estranged daughter Sidney Barney.

“I’ve never seen you so gutturally break down,” the WWHL host, 58, said in reference to this week’s Real Housewives of Orange County episode, which featured Judge, 59, crying about her relationship with Barney, 28, during a cast trip to Tokyo, per Us Weekly.

Also during the episode, Judge received unexpected support from Shannon Beador, her “rival.”

“It kind of meant everything to me,” she told Cohen. “Me and Shannon have gone [through] so many ups and downs through the past 12 years of knowing each other. There was a scene — they didn’t show it — where I said, ‘You and I have gone through so much together, but you’ve never villainized me for the situation I’m going through.'”

Another ‘RHOC’ Star Recently Underwent ‘Roughest’ Chapter of Her Cancer Treatment

Jeana Keough has been undergoing treatment for tongue cancer this year, and in August her daughter Kara Bosworth shared an update.

“Jeana finished her last radiation treatment yesterday, and we were informed that these next two weeks will be the roughest on her physically—as the chemo and radiation are compounding and her body will be at its weakest point,” Bosworth, 37, wrote on GoFundMe. “The radiation burns have now made it to the outer skin on her neck and even putting medicated cream on the area with the gentlest of touches causes her wincing pain.”

A dog has been found alive after spending more than 50 hours alone in the Alaska wilderness following an avalanche that injured the two mountaineers she was hiking with.

LouLou, a 4-year-old poodle-husky mix, was accompanying the two experienced climbers in Chugach State Park on October 10 when an avalanche swept them approximately 500 feet down a mountain ridge, according to People. Both men survived, but suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital. LouLou, however, was nowhere to be found.

Lauren Padawer, the girlfriend of one of the injured hikers, was overseas celebrating her father’s 80th birthday when she learned about the incident. After confirming that both men had survived, she immediately began working to bring LouLou home.

“I just wanted to exhaust every resource I had and only give up [knowing] I did everything I could do,” Padawer told People, adding that she wasn’t sleeping much during the search.

Padawer contacted local pet rescue groups, hiking organizations, and mountaineering groups while also reaching out directly to dozens of people who might be able to help. More than 20 people eventually joined the effort, including volunteers on the ground and pilots Amanda Barker and Dave Beckett.

One potentially crucial clue was that LouLou was wearing an Apple AirTag, but the device’s initial location estimate was off by nearly half a mile, complicating the search in the rugged mountain terrain.

“On an ordinary map, that might not seem enormous. In the rugged Chugach Mountains, half a mile can mean an entirely different ridge, drainage, or mountainside especially with rapidly shifting and intermittently stormy weather,” Padawer wrote on Facebook.

Despite the challenges, the search continued. Barker and Beckett were able to get another signal from LouLou’s AirTag during their aerial search before the weather forced them to stop for the day.

Even from thousands of miles away, Padawer continued helping by comparing satellite imagery with other mapping tools to better understand the terrain where LouLou might be stranded. She eventually identified the area where the pilots had received another signal, helping narrow the search.

After approximately 50 hours alone in the wilderness, LouLou was found alive. Padawer was stunned when she received a photo confirming the dog’s rescue.

“I was shocked!” she told People. “I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It was too good to be true. I cried.”

Fortunately, LouLou appeared to have escaped the ordeal with relatively minor injuries, including a broken toe and a damaged canine tooth. Otherwise, Padawer said the dog was doing well and enjoying some much-needed rest at home. While she expressed gratitude for everyone who helped bring LouLou home, Padawer gave special recognition to Barker and Beckett for their role in the rescue.

“Their generosity, skill, and determination turned a desperate search into an extraordinary homecoming,” she wrote on Facebook.

Shane Gillis’ controversial Saturday Night Live monologue has generated plenty of debate since he hosted the sketch comedy series on Oct. 10, and now Fox News star Harris Faulkner is weighing in.

During a new episode of the Fox News podcast The Girls, Faulkner discussed Gillis’ monologue with Kat Timpf, Rachel Campos-Duffy, Melissa DeRosa and guest Kayce Smith.

Gillis drew backlash after joking about his return to a public gym and the revealing workout clothes he sees women wearing there.

“I haven’t been to the gym in so long. I didn’t know women just dress like whores now?” Gillis joked during his monologue.

The comedian went on to joke about the tight shorts women wear to the gym and the contradiction he sees in wearing revealing clothing while getting upset when men look at them.

The routine quickly became a flashpoint online. Schitt’s Creek star Dan Levy called Gillis out for being a misogynist, while former SNL cast member Ego Nwodim responded by posting a photo of herself in workout clothes with the caption, “Whore reporting for duty.” Singer Maren Morris also joined the backlash.

Faulkner said she didn’t see Gillis’ monologue in real time, so she went back and watched the entire thing before forming her opinion.

She came away with one big question.

“Was he trying to be funny or does he have a problem with women?” Faulkner asked. “Because a lot of his first set was about not liking us.”

Faulkner made clear that she wasn’t arguing Gillis shouldn’t be allowed to make the jokes. In fact, she said she was happy to see free speech flourishing and that audiences could simply decide whether they wanted to watch.

“Say whatever you want to say, but I will make the decision not to watch if I want to make the decision not to watch,” she said.

Still, Faulkner said she found Gillis’ comments about women “so derogatory.”

She also pointed to other portions of his monologue, including jokes about encountering a woman while hiking and comments about his sisters.

“He just had a lot of derogatory things to say about women,” Faulkner said. “And if you find that funny, I think it’s fantastic. I don’t find it funny, so I will then help myself to make the choice not to watch.”

Campos-Duffy pushed back somewhat, arguing that Faulkner simply isn’t Gillis’ target audience.

“I can 100 percent tell you, you are not his audience,” Campos-Duffy said. “I am not his audience. And he clearly has an audience because he’s super famous.”

Timpf, a comedian herself, also defended Gillis’ right to make jokes that people find offensive, even though she admitted the monologue didn’t particularly make her laugh.

“I didn’t really laugh,” Timpf said. “Again, I don’t really think I’m the target audience, but I also wasn’t offended.”

Timpf argued that there’s “no such thing as subject matter that you can’t joke about” if the comedian’s intention is to make people laugh. She also said audiences are free to be offended and voice that opinion.

Gillis’ monologue has continued generating conversation nearly a week after it aired. Former SNL star Michael Che weighed in during an Oct. 15 appearance on Today, summing up the controversy simply: “That’s comedy.”

Faulkner, meanwhile, appeared content to let Gillis’ audience decide for themselves.

“If he wants to turn off a bunch of women, I don’t know if you’ve seen the feeds around lately, but it’s not even about politics,” she said. “They really don’t like what he said.”

For Faulkner, the solution wasn’t canceling Gillis. It was changing the channel.

Dave Coulier got a round of cheers this week as he attended the Detroit Red Wings’ Hockey Fights Cancer night on Thursday at Little Caesars Arena.

The Full House star was spotted alongside co-star Andrea Barger during the game’s lookalike cam. When the 66-year-old was pictured on screen, the area erupted in cheers for the actor as Barger clapped and smiled along. The two were also seen sporting the hockey teams’ official jerseys, but in purple to honor the fight against cancer.

Coulier is notably known for playing the role of Joey in the 1987 ABC sitcom. He played the role for the series’ entire run of eight seasons until its finale in 1995. Barger, on the other hand, played the beloved role of Kimmy Granger, the best friend to D.J. Tanner (Candace Cameron).

Their appearance at the Detroit Red Wings game was not only a Full House reunion between the castmates, but a heartfelt nod to Coulier. In 2024, the actor announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a broad group of blood cancers that starts in the white blood cells. Five months later, Coulier announced he was cancer-free.

Almost a year after his cancer diagnosis and recovery, Coulier sadly revealed in December 205 that he had been diagnosed with p16 squamous carcinoma. It’s a form of cancer most commonly found in the back of the throat, base of the tongue, and tonsils. Tests for the cancer show a positive result for the p16 protein. Coulier announced this past February that he was in remission.

In May, the actor took to Instagram to address fans’ concerns over his changed appearance and voice. He posted that treatments had an impact on his body, especially his voice, as the cancer affected his throat.

“The last time I did some of you said that I look differently, and I sound differently, and I do,” he posted. “What you’re seeing is the side effects of extensive radiation that I went through for carcinoma in my throat. I haven’t been able to eat solid food in months. So I’ve lost 45 pounds, that’s what you’re seeing.”

Fans flooded the actor with caring comments, even Barger herself, who wrote, “You’re as handsome and funny as ever. I love you, poo poo!”

This week, Coulier’s co-star Jodie Sweetin revealed at the Scleroderma Research Foundation’s Cool Comedy Hot Cuisine fundraising event with PEOPLE that the actor is “doing great.”

What’s more New York than bodegas? How about buying a New York drink with New York’s championship basketball team on the label?

Snapple announced on Friday, Oct. 16, that its limited-edition Knicks Championship bottle is finally available to buy. It first debuted at a series of “mystery” locations in June, with help from another New York staple, Meals by Cug. Starting Oct. 19, fans can pick up the commemorative glass bottle for $2.99 at bodegas across the New York City metro area, while supplies last.

The bottle celebrates the Knicks’ 94-90 win over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on June 13. It was the franchise’s first title since 1973. Jalen Brunson scored 45 points in the clincher, a Knicks record for a Finals game. And the team got there after a 29-point comeback in Game 4, the largest in NBA Finals history.

The timing makes the collab extra fitting. Snapple was founded in 1972 by three entrepreneurs from Brooklyn, just one year before the Knicks’ previous championship. In other words, the brand is about as old as the drought the bottle is celebrating.

When it first dropped this summer, Snapple skipped store shelves entirely and turned the drink into a citywide scavenger hunt. Clues came from Meals by Cug, the Staten Island-raised creator Danny Mondello. He’s known for his no-nonsense reviews of Italian American food and recently opened his own sandwich shop and café, Casa Cugine, in Williamsburg. Snapple said its announcement post quickly became its most engaged Instagram post ever.

With the growing competition in the candy market, Tootsie Roll, the iconic chewy chocolate treat, has maintained its identity and delighted candy lovers for generations. However, behind the brand’s enduring popularity lies an interesting story that dates back to 1896, when New York candymaker Leo Hirschfield invented the beloved confection.

The Austrian immigrant developed a unique recipe that addressed confectionery challenges, including chocolate’s tendency to melt in hot weather.

Moreover, Tootsie Roll’s firm, chewy texture made it a more practical chocolate-flavored treat that could withstand summer heat.

In addition, its individually wrapped packaging helped distinguish it from other confections, making it one of America’s earliest individually wrapped penny candies.

Beyond its unique appeal to the public, Hirschfield didn’t have to look far for a name for his new creation.

The candymaker named Tootsie Roll after his daughter Clara’s nickname, who was often called “Tootsie.”

Nine years later, the once penny-priced, wax-paper-wrapped candy had grown into a thriving business operating out of a four-story factory in New York.

As Tootsie Roll’s popularity grew, Hirschfield patented the process behind Tootsie Roll’s distinctive texture in 1907, with the patent granted in 1908. 

From horse-drawn deliveries to its own delivery trucks, advertising campaigns and even a celebrity endorser and mascot, the company continued to expand. Hirschfield’s candy business eventually became part of a larger confectionery company through its merger with Stern & Saalberg, which later became known as the Sweets Company of America, the predecessor of modern Tootsie Roll Industries.

As for ownership, the iconic confectionery has maintained a lasting family legacy.

During the Great Depression, businessman William Rubin and his family gained control of the financially troubled Sweets Company of America.  

Control was later passed to his daughter, Ellen Rubin Gordon, and her husband, Melvin Gordon, who took over the company in 1962.

“When I was a child, my father was president of Tootsie Roll, so he came home every night and told us stories about what went on at work,” Ellen Rubin Gordon shared in an interview, recalling the early memories of the brand. “And when I was a child, I went through the Tootsie Roll plant, so I knew something about its process. It’s a chocolatey, chewy candy, and that’s a very appealing taste… one that seems to be quite universal.”

Following Melvin Gordon’s death in January 2015, Ellen Rubin Gordon succeeded him as the company’s chairman and CEO.

She continues to lead Tootsie Roll Industries, which reports producing around 65 million Tootsie Rolls daily, equivalent to approximately 23 billion annually if production remains consistent throughout the year.

Kate Middleton posed for three surprise new portraits to mark a new project exploring the impact of nature on children’s development.

The Princess of Wales looks stunning in the portraits, which were taken during a previously unannounced trip taken by her and Prince William to Cornwall on Thursday

It happened to be the same day that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, who are estranged from William and Kate, undertook their first official joint engagement in the UK since moving back from California in September.

While Harry and Meghan were taking selfies and accepting flowers from well-wishers during their day out in Nottingham—the location of their first public joint engagement after they announced their engagement in November 2017—William and Kate’s outing was kept under wraps until today.

The portraits of Kate were taken by  Josh Shinner, who has photographed members of the Wales family on several previous occasions including Prince George‘s 12th birthday.

He snapped the princess surrounded by Cornish woodland. In the portraits Kate is wearing an alpaca-blend Fair Isle sweater and her trusty Barbour jacket.

Kate also released a video via her and William’s official Instagram account in which she explained more about the initiative, which was commissioned via the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood.

“New scientific research increasingly shows just how important nature is for our psychological and physiological wellbeing,” she said.

She went on, “Nature is such an extraordinary environment for us all and, in this tech-driven, digital age, spending quality time outdoors has never been more important.

“This project is about exploring how nature, creativity and relationships can best support the healthy development of babies and young children.

“We believe that taking a whole-child approach is important, and nature becomes a wonderful place to explore how we can successfully nurture the social and emotional skills that underpin lifelong health and wellbeing.”

She finished by saying, “My hope is that through this practical, nature-based research, we can build supportive environments that help make nature more accessible, benefiting babies, young children and their families across the U.K.”

Sherri Shepherd is ready to grant your three wishes.

Ahead of her first night performing Aladdin on Broadway on Friday, the show’s official Instagram account shared a photo of the longtime TV personality dressed as Genie, a role that has never been played by a woman before.

Announced in September that the former co-host of The View will be taking up the role of the iconic character, Shepherd said at the time that “Joining Aladdin on Broadway is an absolute dream come true — and an incredible honor,” according to Playbill.

“The Genie is such an iconic character, and I’m beyond excited to bring my own energy, humor, heart, and a little bit of magic to this role,” she continued. “I hope audiences see themselves in this Genie and leave the theater feeling so much joy and inspired to believe in the impossible. To step on that stage as the first woman to ever play the Genie is something I don’t take lightly. I’m ready to rub the lamp, unleash some magic, and have the time of my life on Broadway.”

At the time of the announcement, she also told The Associated Press that she was consulting Broadway legends, including “my friends, Kristin Chenoweth; Steven Boyer, who was in Kimberly Akimbo, Wayne Brady — anybody I know who has been on Broadway.”

Her run as the iconic character, originated by actor James Monroe Iglehart in 2014, continues through Jan. 3, 2027.

Ahead of her first curtain call at New York’s New Amsterdam Theatre, Shepherd returned to the table on The View as a guest co-host and spoke about the significance of her role.

“Now the little girls are going to be wearing a princess costume and a genie costume, and more women — think outside the box, you can play the genie,” she said.

“I’m having so much fun,” she added ahead of opening night.

This won’t be the first time Shepherd has been on a Broadway stage. In 2014, she played the evil Stepmother in Cinderella.

While Charlotte York’s biggest concern on Sex and the City was finding the right man to marry, behind the scenes, actress Kristin Davis was most worried about fitting into her character’s clothes.

On the latest episode of her podcast Are You a Charlotte?, Davis opened up about dealing with body dysmorphia during the show’s early seasons. She sat down with TV husband Evan Handler to reminisce about their time on set, and while doing so, Davis recalled resorting to drastic dieting measures to become the version of Charlotte she saw in her head.

“There was a time earlier in the show where you can see my ribs,” Davis said. “It was one of those hot summers, and I just remember I just ate M&Ms for a couple weeks. I don’t know why I didn’t lose my mind or whatever. And, like, I had no breasts left, like it’s just bones.”

The 61-year-old actress, in her early thirties at the time, eventually saw an acupuncturist who was appalled by her controversial weight-loss regimen. He advised her against it, but Davis told him that those mini-chocolates were the only things she would eat.

“I had read that ballet dancers smoke cigarettes and eat candy bars,” Davis added, attempting to explain her rationale. “So I was like, ‘Well, if they can do it, I can do it.’ But I wasn’t smoking a cigarette.”

Comments from fans didn’t help her body image either. Handler told Davis that people would come up to him if they spotted him out in NYC and tell him that he looked “fatter on the show.” Unfortunately, Davis revealed she also dealt with similar fan experiences throughout her six seasons on the show.

“Evan, for years and years, this is all they would say to me,” Davis said. “And you would just be like, ‘Okay, anything else you want to say to get us out of this moment?’ Like, it’s so awkward.”

But this isn’t the first time Davis spoke candidly about this topic. During an August 2025 episode of her podcast, Davis revealed that her friend and co-star, Sarah Jessica Parker, noticed a difference in her as well.

“There were times when Sarah Jessica would be like, ‘You have body dysmorphia.’ And I’d be like, I don’t think I do because the world is literally telling me daily that I am pear-shaped,” she recalled. “Like so much to the point where, like, you can’t think straight.”

“But then you also have disordered eating. You’re starving yourself,” she continued. “I remember fainting in a parking lot one time because I was on some crazy diet…all the craziness.”

Christmas flights are getting more expensive for Americans this year, but travelers may still have time to find better deals by booking early and adjusting their travel dates.

According to travel booking platform Hopper’s 2026 Holiday Travel Index, Christmas airfare is averaging $452 for a round-trip ticket, up 23% from 2025. That represents an increase of $85 compared with last year, putting additional pressure on families planning holiday visits and winter getaways.

However, travelers who have some flexibility may be able to reduce their costs by comparing departure dates and booking before prices climb further.

When to book Christmas flights for the best deals

In its October 2026 holiday travel report, Google analyzed five years of aggregated Google Flights data to identify when airfares have typically been lowest.

For Christmas travel, domestic flights departing from the U.S. have historically reached their lowest average prices around 56 days before departure. Google identified a broader lower-price window of 33 to 67 days before departure, placing the potential booking sweet spot between late October and mid-November this year.

Google recommends booking holiday flights as soon as possible when travelers already know their destinations and dates, particularly because prices and availability vary by route.

Which Christmas travel dates could save money?

Changing the days you fly could make a difference, too. Google’s analysis found that departing on a Monday and returning on a Tuesday or Wednesday saved about 14% compared with weekend flights. For domestic trips, flying on those days could save up to 20% compared with departing and returning on Sundays.

Travelers could also consider connecting flights. According to Google, nonstop tickets cost about 20% more on average than flights with connections.

Meanwhile, Expedia’s 2026 holiday travel outlook and other airfare trackers can provide additional information when comparing specific routes and departure dates. Travelers should check current fares before committing, as savings vary.

How to save on Christmas airfare

Rather than relying on a particular day of the week to purchase tickets, travelers can set price alerts, compare nearby departure dates and review alternative routes. Google found that booking on Wednesday saved only about 1.4% compared with Sunday, suggesting that the day of purchase matters less than many travelers believe.

With Christmas airfare averaging $452, even modest savings could help families keep holiday travel costs under control. Comparing prices now may give travelers more options before demand increases closer to the holiday.

Multiply those overlooked spots across a yard, and breeding can continue week after week. The exact number of mosquitoes produced depends on the species, weather and available habitat, so there is no universal number for every backyard. But mosquitoes reproduce quickly, and eliminating small water sources is one of the most effective ways to interrupt the cycle.

Where Do Mosquitoes Breed in Backyards?

Mosquitoes breed wherever water remains long enough for their eggs to hatch and larvae and pupae to develop. That includes obvious sources such as birdbaths and buckets, but also water trapped in gutters, plant saucers, toys, tarps and other small containers.

The CDC’s mosquito-control guidance recommends emptying, scrubbing, turning over, covering or removing water-holding items at least once a week. Even small amounts of standing water deserve attention. The most productive mosquito breeding sites around a home may be easy to miss.

1. Clogged Gutters and Downspouts

Leaves, twigs and roofing debris can create dams inside gutters, allowing rainwater to collect rather than drain away. Mosquitoes can use that stagnant water as a breeding site.

The EPA’s mosquito-prevention guidance specifically identifies rain gutters as places where mosquitoes can breed. Check gutters after storms, particularly if trees overhang the roof.

Downspouts deserve attention, too. If water repeatedly pools at the bottom instead of draining away from the house, inspect the discharge area and surrounding grade.

2. Plant Saucers

The shallow trays beneath potted plants can hold enough water for mosquitoes to lay eggs. They are especially easy to overlook because they are often tucked beneath foliage or on patios.

Empty and clean plant saucers regularly rather than allowing water to remain between watering cycles. The CDC specifically includes flowerpot saucers among the items homeowners should empty and scrub weekly.

3. French Drains and Drainage Areas

A French drain is designed to move excess water away from an area, but drainage problems can turn parts of the system into persistent wet spots. Sediment, debris, compacted soil or a blocked outlet can interfere with drainage.

Look for water that remains around the drain after rain rather than assuming the drainage system is working because it is installed. A properly functioning French drain should move water away instead of leaving a recurring pool.

4. Toys, Tarps and Outdoor Equipment

A child’s toy left upside down, a wheelbarrow tipped the wrong way or a tarp with a sag in the middle can collect rainwater.

The EPA and CDC both recommend regularly checking outdoor objects that hold water. The EPA’s mosquito-control information notes that mosquitoes can breed in surprisingly small containers, including plant trays, toys, old tires and even bottle caps.

5. Birdbaths, Buckets and Decorative Features

Birdbaths and decorative water features need regular maintenance. Buckets, watering cans, trash containers and other outdoor vessels can become breeding sites when they are left uncovered.

For water that is intended to remain in place, such as certain water features or rain barrels, follow appropriate maintenance and treatment instructions rather than simply letting the water sit.

How Quickly Can Mosquitoes Multiply in Standing Water?

Some mosquitoes develop from egg to adult in roughly a week under favorable conditions. The CDC notes that certain Aedes mosquitoes can complete this development in 7 to 10 days.

That short life cycle explains why a single overlooked water source can become an ongoing problem. Remove the water before eggs hatch, and you interrupt the next generation. Leave it in place through multiple cycles, and the same breeding site can continue producing mosquitoes.

Weather also matters. Warm conditions can accelerate development, while cooler temperatures slow it down.

How Often Should You Check Your Yard for Standing Water?

Check the property at least once a week and after significant rainfall. Weekly inspections are especially useful because they align with the recommended schedule for emptying and cleaning many water-holding containers.

Walk the entire property rather than checking only the obvious areas around patios and decks. Look at:

• Gutters and downspouts
• Plant pots and saucers
• Children’s toys
• Buckets and watering cans
• Birdbaths
• Pool covers
• Tarps and outdoor furniture
• Drainage areas and low spots
• Rain barrels and other water-storage containers

The CDC recommends weekly removal or maintenance of water-holding items to reduce mosquito breeding opportunities.

What if You Can’t Remove the Standing Water?

Some water cannot simply be dumped or drained. Rain barrels, certain drainage structures and other permanent or semi-permanent water sources may require additional management.

The CDC says larvicides can be used in standing water that cannot be covered, dumped or removed, provided the product is appropriate for that use and the label directions are followed. CDC guidance on larvicides specifically lists gutters, downspouts, rain barrels, pool covers and tree holes among potential treatment sites. Do not treat drinking water (for people or pets) or apply a product to a site unless its label permits that use.

What Do Mosquitoes Absolutely Hate?
