In Rotten Tomatoes’ October 13 list of the 25 Most Popular TV Shows Right Now, Below claimed the top spot, ahead of other new and returning series. The show is also popular with Netflix viewers. For the week of October 5 through October 11, Below ranked No. 1 on Netflix’s English-language TV chart with 17 million views. Netflix also reported that the series had the most-viewed debut of a Canadian title on the platform.

How to Keep an Area Rug Looking Fresh

The easiest way to keep a washable area rug looking fresh is to stay on top of the little messes before they become big ones. Vacuum regularly to pick up dust, crumbs and dirt you track in, and blot spills as soon as they happen instead of rubbing them deeper into the fibers. For everyday upkeep, shake the rug outside when you can, and check the care label before tossing it in the washing machine. Some rugs require cold water, a gentle cycle or a specific detergent, and you’ll want to make sure your washer can handle the rug’s weight.

Once it’s clean, dry it according to the manufacturer’s instructions to prevent lingering moisture and musty smells. If possible, rotate the rug every few months to even out wear and fading, especially in sunny spots or high-traffic areas. And don’t forget the rug pad underneath! Keeping it clean helps prevent dirt from collecting between layers and keeps your rug in place.

Rachael Ray has made her first public appearance since being bashed by fans for her appearance.

The 58-year-old Food Network star co-hosted the 18th annual Blue Moon Burger Bash in New York City on Thursday, alongside comedian Burt Kreischer.

Ray encouraged the crowd to vote for which burger they enjoyed the most.

“A huge crowd here! My love to everyone within the sound of our voices!” the TV personality said, per the Daily Mail. “It’s a big, big deal. It’s a big deal to these people, and they busted their [expletives] all day, so please do take the time to vote.”

Kreischer shared how grateful he was to cook with Ray.

“Yesterday I did my cooking show, Something’s Burning, with Rachael Ray. It is an honor,” he said.

“I didn’t burn anything, and neither did he! He made amazing tortellini,” the celebrity chef replied.

“Tortellini carbonara. Handmade tortellini!” Kreischer proudly announced to the audience.

The winners were crowned by the event’s celebrity judges: comedian Cedric the Entertainer, journalist Sophie Flay, YouTuber chef Andrew Rea, chef Jet Tila, television co-host Ana Navarro, and comedian Anthony Anderson. 

Three awards were given out. Nowon took home the Blue Moon People’s Choice Award, while the Gotham Burger Social Club earned the Pat LaFrieda Judges’ Choice Award. RW Prime won Mike’s Amazing Special Opportunity Award.

Ray was an energetic and personable host, just months after fans raised concerns about her appearance.

She posted a video to social media in July, sharing seasoning tips, but the comments were flooded with followers claiming she looked unrecognizable.

One user wrote, “I haven’t seen her is SO LONG. I’m genuinely wondering.. is she okay?” while another commented, “Is that Rachael Ray?”

In September 2024, Ray concerned fans after she posted a clip from her cooking show, Rachael Ray in Tuscany. Her words sounded slurred, and she appeared to be leaning on the counter in front of her.

The chef later said she had “a couple of bad falls” while carrying wood for a fire, according to the Daily Mail.

Despite their on-again off-again history, which includes a marriage and a divorce, Ben Affleck couldn’t help but rave about his ex, Jennifer Lopez, when it comes to talking about her work ethic and career.

In a recent podcast episode of The Moment with Jorge Ramos and Paola Ramos, Affleck shared what he learned from watching her navigate the entertainment business as a Latina.

“I think to understand Jennifer Lopez honestly is to understand somebody who really is a pioneer who did things when she was told they’re not possible,” he said. “This is a tough business anyway, but definitely doubly so for her, triply so, and I think you have to afford her the credit of a kind they give an Olympic diver, like a degree of difficulty.”

“I think she’s got a 4x on what she’s done, and I hold her in enormous, enormous, respect and regard,” he added.

Affleck continued to praise his ex, whose career started as a dancer on In Living Color and then segued into music and movies. She also now owns companies in the beauty and alcohol spaces.

“She’s done all of the things that we’re told, ‘This is what great American entrepreneurs do,’ and she’s done them to spectacular success,” he said. “I have nothing but respect for her; she also is probably the hardest-working person that I’ve ever known.”

Affleck and Lopez were first romantically linked in the early 2000s. They got engaged in 2002; however, they never tied the knot and split in 2004.

Let me get this out of the way: I am not a protein powder person. I don’t necessarily have anything against it; it just never tasted very good to me, and I prefer to get my protein from straight-up food sources, like eggs, fish and beans. But when I heard about Ballerina Farm’s protein powder, I knew I would have to make an exception to my rule.

There are two reasons for this: First, I’m completely fascinated by Hannah Neeleman, the so-called “trad wife” behind the Ballerina Farm brand. A former Juilliard ballerina who was pregnant with her first child on her graduation day, Neeleman and her husband left New York City to start a farm in Utah and live off the land. They now have nine kids and an incredibly successful business. Also, the buzzy 2026 novel Yesteryear is loosely based on Neeleman…but that’s another story for another day.

The other reason why I wanted to try the Ballerina Farm’s farmer protein is that I’d seen on social media that it was actually really good. And as a health editor, the fact that it’s made with very few ingredients compared to other protein powders was hugely appealing to me: When it comes to processed foods, the shorter the ingredient list, the better.

But does the Ballerina Farm protein powder live up to the hype? Is it worth the $62 price tag? Here’s my honest review after drinking it every day for one month.

What Is Ballerina Farm’s Farmer Protein?

Ballerina Farm’s Farmer Protein is a protein powder from Hannah Neeleman’s Utah-based Ballerina Farm brand, made with grass-fed whey and bovine colostrum. Each scoop has 24 grams of protein, per the label. It comes in flavors including Vanilla Bean, Creamy Chocolate and Maple Cinnamon, and can be mixed into water or milk (or an alternative milk like almond or oat milk), stirred into oatmeal or blended into a smoothie.

I tried the peanut butter flavor, and each scoop (which is the recommended serving size) includes 170 calories, 24 grams of protein and 2 grams of sugar (none of that is added). The actual ingredient list is short, at least compared to other protein powders. It includes:

• Grass-fed whey protein
• Peanut flour (specific to the peanut butter flavor)
• Inulin chicory root
• Hydrolyzed bovine collagen
• Vanilla extract
• Colostrum
• Hemp protein,
• Unrefined sea salt
• Stevia leaf
• Monk fruit

Grass-fed whey protein is the first ingredient, so most of the 24 grams of protein comes from whey, a complete protein that’s well-studied for muscle building.

Hydrolyzed bovine collagen is the next protein source, and Ballerina Farm says it supports joints and bone density. Some studies back that up, but many are small or funded by collagen makers, so I personally think more research is needed before we can draw major conclusions.

Hemp protein adds some plant protein and minerals, and inulin from chicory root is a prebiotic fiber that feeds healthy gut bacteria and accounts for most of the 3 grams of fiber per scoop. (Some people find it causes bloating at first, which was true for me—it eased up within a few days). The powder is sweetened with stevia and monk fruit rather than sugar, which is why no added sugar is listed on the label.

Wait, what’s colostrum?

Until the last few years, I’d only known about colostrum in the context of breastfeeding my daughters—it’s the nutrient-dense substance your body produces in the first few days of your baby’s life before your milk comes in.

Cows produce colostrum, too, and I’ve seen (very pricey) bovine colostrum hit the supplement market recently. Like human colostrum, it’s richer than regular milk in antibodies, immune proteins like lactoferrin and growth factors, which help protect a newborn while its own immune system develops.

Ballerina Farm says they became interested in colostrum when they realized their cows made more colostrum than their calves could drink. They describe their colostrum as “calf-first sourced,” meaning the calves get what they need first.

The research on the health benefits of colostrum supplements is limited. It’s also worth noting that colostrum is the sixth ingredient listed, meaning that even if cow colostrum does have health benefits, the actual protein powder doesn’t contain very much of it.

How Does Ballerina Farm Protein Powder Taste?

Honestly? It’s delicious. As I noted above, I tried the peanut butter flavor, and I found that it didn’t have that chemical taste that so many protein powders do, which probably has something to do with their long ingredient list. I can taste the “natural sweeteners” listed (stevia and monk fruit) when I mix it with water, but much less so when I mix it with almond milk and not at all when blended into a smoothie.

I’m curious to try the other flavors, too: In addition to peanut butter, the Ballerina Farm protein powder comes in Vanilla Bean, Creamy Chocolate, Maple Cinnamon, Strawberry Crème, Chocolate Coconut Almond, Pumpkin Pie (seasonal) and Lemon Poppyseed (seasonal). I’d say there’s something here for everyone!

Also, unlike other protein powders, I found this one dissolved into water fairly easily. With other protein powders, I usually end up shaking or even blending very aggressively before getting all those annoying clumps out.

What Dietitians Think

I spoke with two registered dietitians: One was Samantha Cassetty, MS, RD, who examines labels and weighs pros and cons more than any nutritionist I’ve ever met. I knew I wasn’t going to get a blanket “it’s great!” from her, and I was right.

“Zero added sugar doesn’t mean zero sweetness, and research links long-term use of non-nutritive sweeteners like stevia and monk fruit to a higher risk of type 2 diabetes and heart disease when added up over the course of the day,” she tells Parade.

Cassetty has questions about the actual protein source, too.

“Whey is the main protein, but the 24 grams of protein comes from a blend of whey, collagen, hemp and colostrum, and the label doesn’t break down how much of each you’re getting, so you don’t know how much of that is from a non-whey source,” she says. “That makes it hard to say whether you’ll get the muscle repair and growth benefits, since collagen may not build muscle the way whey does.”

She adds that while the colostrum is a trendy add-in, there’s simply not enough research to say if it’s nutritionally beneficial. “The research is early and based on small studies, and there’s no standard formulation, so depending on why you’re taking it, there are probably more proven strategies,” Cassetty says.

Mackenzie Burgess, RDN, registered dietitian nutritionist and recipe developer at Cheerful Choices, likes the simplicity of Ballerina Farm’s protein powder. “One scoop provides 24 grams of protein plus 3 grams of prebiotic fiber from chicory root, with no added sugar in most flavors,” she says.

A potential downside is that inulin fiber can cause bloating or GI discomfort in some people, she adds. Like Cassetty, she notes that bovine colostrum benefits aren’t well studied quite yet. “But there is potential for supporting immune health and the gut lining. Overall, I feel that protein powder is a convenient way to round out a meal or refuel after a workout,” she tells Parade.

Is It Worth the Price?

With each bag containing between 25 and 30 servings depending on the flavor, one $62 bag will last you about a month. That’s a steep price tag, especially because every dietitian I’ve ever spoken to says it’s always better to get nutrients from food rather than a supplement or powder.

That said, as a working mom of two little kids, I will say that having this powder on hand over the past month made meeting my protein goals so much easier. So I think it really depends on your budget and lifestyle!

Who Should (and Shouldn’t) Try It

As long as you’re mostly meeting your protein goals via food, I think anyone is a good candidate for Ballerina Farm’s Farmer Protein. With that in mind, anyone with a sensitive stomach or GI issues may be bothered by the bloating caused by the inulin chicory root. For me, it went away within a few days, but if you’re concerned, it may be worth speaking to your doctor about it before you try it.

The Bottom Line

I’m a fan of Ballerina Farm’s Farmer Protein. While I can’t say I noticed any huge differences in my health—my energy level was about the same, and I didn’t see any big gains in my workouts—I did find that it helped me feel fuller throughout the day and kept blood sugar crashes at bay. Plus, it tastes great, especially when blended into a smoothie or almond milk (plain water is a little rough, at least for me).

I think it’s worth keeping in mind what Cassetty said, though: zero sugar sweeteners aren’t completely risk-free, and the research on collagen and colostrum is still very limited. That said, if the price is within your budget and you’re struggling to get enough protein throughout the day, I’d say it’s worth a shot. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you when you’re tempted to buy another $62 bag!

A White House official confirmed to Parade that Zacharia is “transitioning out” of her press secretary role. Her brief tenure quickly drew scrutiny over her first press briefing and questions about how her legal career was presented publicly.

What Exactly Is a Locked-Room Mystery?

At its core, a locked-room mystery—often classified under the broader umbrella of “impossible crimes”—is a narrative puzzle in which a transgression occurs under conditions that seem physically unachievable. • The Illusion of Impossibility: The central crime appears to defy natural physics, logic or human capability, often leading panicked suspects to wonder if supernatural forces are at play.

A dog has been found alive after spending more than 50 hours alone in the Alaska wilderness following an avalanche that injured the two mountaineers she was hiking with.

LouLou, a 4-year-old poodle-husky mix, was accompanying the two experienced climbers in Chugach State Park on October 10 when an avalanche swept them approximately 500 feet down a mountain ridge, according to People. Both men survived, but suffered serious injuries and were taken to a hospital. LouLou, however, was nowhere to be found.

Lauren Padawer, the girlfriend of one of the injured hikers, was overseas celebrating her father’s 80th birthday when she learned about the incident. After confirming that both men had survived, she immediately began working to bring LouLou home.

“I just wanted to exhaust every resource I had and only give up [knowing] I did everything I could do,” Padawer told People, adding that she wasn’t sleeping much during the search.

Padawer contacted local pet rescue groups, hiking organizations, and mountaineering groups while also reaching out directly to dozens of people who might be able to help. More than 20 people eventually joined the effort, including volunteers on the ground and pilots Amanda Barker and Dave Beckett.

One potentially crucial clue was that LouLou was wearing an Apple AirTag, but the device’s initial location estimate was off by nearly half a mile, complicating the search in the rugged mountain terrain.

“On an ordinary map, that might not seem enormous. In the rugged Chugach Mountains, half a mile can mean an entirely different ridge, drainage, or mountainside especially with rapidly shifting and intermittently stormy weather,” Padawer wrote on Facebook.

Dave Coulier got a round of cheers this week as he attended the Detroit Red Wings’ Hockey Fights Cancer night on Thursday at Little Caesars Arena.

The Full House star was spotted alongside co-star Andrea Barger during the game’s lookalike cam. When the 66-year-old was pictured on screen, the area erupted in cheers for the actor as Barger clapped and smiled along. The two were also seen sporting the hockey teams’ official jerseys, but in purple to honor the fight against cancer.

Coulier is notably known for playing the role of Joey in the 1987 ABC sitcom. He played the role for the series’ entire run of eight seasons until its finale in 1995. Barger, on the other hand, played the beloved role of Kimmy Granger, the best friend to D.J. Tanner (Candace Cameron).

Their appearance at the Detroit Red Wings game was not only a Full House reunion between the castmates, but a heartfelt nod to Coulier. In 2024, the actor announced that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a broad group of blood cancers that starts in the white blood cells. Five months later, Coulier announced he was cancer-free.

Almost a year after his cancer diagnosis and recovery, Coulier sadly revealed in December 205 that he had been diagnosed with p16 squamous carcinoma. It’s a form of cancer most commonly found in the back of the throat, base of the tongue, and tonsils. Tests for the cancer show a positive result for the p16 protein. Coulier announced this past February that he was in remission.

In May, the actor took to Instagram to address fans’ concerns over his changed appearance and voice. He posted that treatments had an impact on his body, especially his voice, as the cancer affected his throat.

“The last time I did some of you said that I look differently, and I sound differently, and I do,” he posted. “What you’re seeing is the side effects of extensive radiation that I went through for carcinoma in my throat. I haven’t been able to eat solid food in months. So I’ve lost 45 pounds, that’s what you’re seeing.”

Fans flooded the actor with caring comments, even Barger herself, who wrote, “You’re as handsome and funny as ever. I love you, poo poo!”

This week, Coulier’s co-star Jodie Sweetin revealed at the Scleroderma Research Foundation’s Cool Comedy Hot Cuisine fundraising event with PEOPLE that the actor is “doing great.”

What’s more New York than bodegas? How about buying a New York drink with New York’s championship basketball team on the label?

Snapple announced on Friday, Oct. 16, that its limited-edition Knicks Championship bottle is finally available to buy. It first debuted at a series of “mystery” locations in June, with help from another New York staple, Meals by Cug. Starting Oct. 19, fans can pick up the commemorative glass bottle for $2.99 at bodegas across the New York City metro area, while supplies last.

The bottle celebrates the Knicks’ 94-90 win over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals on June 13. It was the franchise’s first title since 1973. Jalen Brunson scored 45 points in the clincher, a Knicks record for a Finals game. And the team got there after a 29-point comeback in Game 4, the largest in NBA Finals history.

The timing makes the collab extra fitting. Snapple was founded in 1972 by three entrepreneurs from Brooklyn, just one year before the Knicks’ previous championship. In other words, the brand is about as old as the drought the bottle is celebrating.

When it first dropped this summer, Snapple skipped store shelves entirely and turned the drink into a citywide scavenger hunt. Clues came from Meals by Cug, the Staten Island-raised creator Danny Mondello. He’s known for his no-nonsense reviews of Italian American food and recently opened his own sandwich shop and café, Casa Cugine, in Williamsburg. Snapple said its announcement post quickly became its most engaged Instagram post ever.

With the growing competition in the candy market, Tootsie Roll, the iconic chewy chocolate treat, has maintained its identity and delighted candy lovers for generations. However, behind the brand’s enduring popularity lies an interesting story that dates back to 1896, when New York candymaker Leo Hirschfield invented the beloved confection.

The Austrian immigrant developed a unique recipe that addressed confectionery challenges, including chocolate’s tendency to melt in hot weather.

Moreover, Tootsie Roll’s firm, chewy texture made it a more practical chocolate-flavored treat that could withstand summer heat.

In addition, its individually wrapped packaging helped distinguish it from other confections, making it one of America’s earliest individually wrapped penny candies.

Beyond its unique appeal to the public, Hirschfield didn’t have to look far for a name for his new creation.

The candymaker named Tootsie Roll after his daughter Clara’s nickname, who was often called “Tootsie.”

Nine years later, the once penny-priced, wax-paper-wrapped candy had grown into a thriving business operating out of a four-story factory in New York.

As Tootsie Roll’s popularity grew, Hirschfield patented the process behind Tootsie Roll’s distinctive texture in 1907, with the patent granted in 1908. 

From horse-drawn deliveries to its own delivery trucks, advertising campaigns and even a celebrity endorser and mascot, the company continued to expand. Hirschfield’s candy business eventually became part of a larger confectionery company through its merger with Stern & Saalberg, which later became known as the Sweets Company of America, the predecessor of modern Tootsie Roll Industries.

As for ownership, the iconic confectionery has maintained a lasting family legacy.

During the Great Depression, businessman William Rubin and his family gained control of the financially troubled Sweets Company of America.  

Control was later passed to his daughter, Ellen Rubin Gordon, and her husband, Melvin Gordon, who took over the company in 1962.

“When I was a child, my father was president of Tootsie Roll, so he came home every night and told us stories about what went on at work,” Ellen Rubin Gordon shared in an interview, recalling the early memories of the brand. “And when I was a child, I went through the Tootsie Roll plant, so I knew something about its process. It’s a chocolatey, chewy candy, and that’s a very appealing taste… one that seems to be quite universal.”

Following Melvin Gordon’s death in January 2015, Ellen Rubin Gordon succeeded him as the company’s chairman and CEO.

She continues to lead Tootsie Roll Industries, which reports producing around 65 million Tootsie Rolls daily, equivalent to approximately 23 billion annually if production remains consistent throughout the year.
