'American Idol' Winner and Country Music Rising Star Releases An Impactful New Song
Not all American Idol winners go on to have successful music careers, but Chayce Bckham, who won Season 19 in May 2021 with his original song “23,” has gone on to build a solid career in country music.
Following up on “23,” which became his first No. 1 country radio song and went platinum, today released the single “Dirt Floor,” which he co-wrote with Brandon Kinney and John Pierce.
“Dirt Floor” is a neo western sounding song, with a dark and moody feel, but it is ultimately a love song dressed in the glow of a midnight moon.
“This track depicts how being with the right person can make you feel like you’re in the right place no matter where you are – a sentiment that rings so true in my life,” says Beckham. “I love that it isn’t quite like anything I’ve written or recorded in the past, and it has a great tone that feels memorable.”
Listen to it here:
Called “the poster child for impactful and meaningful country music,” (Entertainment Focus), Beckham is on tour and in the studio making the next wave of music. With the release of this new summer track, Beckham continues his reign as “one of the genre’s most exciting rising stars.” (Entertainment Focus)

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet Reunite With King Charles for First Time in 4 Years
It looks like Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet will indeed get the chance to see their grandfather, King Charles, during the Sussex family’s trip to the UK. Despite rumors that only Prince Harry would visit London due to security concerns, his wife and children are now with him in England.
According to recent reports, Buckingham Palace confirmed the visit, releasing a statement on Friday. The King and his wife, Queen Camilla, hosted Prince Harry, Meghan Markle, and their two children at Highgrove House earlier in the day.
Other than the date, approximate time, and location (the King’s private country estate in Gloucestershire, England), the royals did not provide the public with any other details.
There’s no need to waste time scrolling through social media feeds looking for a few precious pics of the seven-year-old, five-year-old, and their royal grandfather. Per the Palace, the meeting was private. And that means new Instagram pics or video clips.
It is not known at this time where the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (and their children) are staying on their visit to England. Earlier this week, Prince Harry’s spokesman confirmed they would not stay at any of the royal residences.
Buckingham Palace’s withdrawal of an invitation for overnight accommodations sparked a controversy, with the public wondering why. The Duke of Sussex’s rep revealed that it was “disappointing that the offer has now been withdrawn” and went on to add that Harry had made “alternative security arrangements. Once those arrangements were in place, he was able to formally accept the offer of accommodation for himself over the weekend.”
Buckingham Palace did not provide a public comment on the invitation or why it was rescinded.
This is the first visit across the pond for Harry and Meghan in four years. Their last visit was in 2022 to attend Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee. The couple privately celebrated Princess Lilibet’s first birthday and introduced King Charles to his granddaughter. But, like the current trip, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s children did not make a public appearance.
While Meghan has stayed stateside with the couple’s kids, Prince Harry has traveled to England solo. During his last trip, in September of 2025, the Duke of Sussex met with his father for a private 55-minute reunion.
Iconic Folk-Protest Song Ranked a ‘Greatest of All Time’ Recorded 64 Years Ago
Originally performed as a two-verse public performance, "Blowin' in the Wind" by Bob Dylan was officially recorded on July 9, 1962, for inclusion on his second album, The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.
Dylan said of the song,
"There ain't too much I can say about this song except that the answer is blowing in the wind. It ain't in no book or movie or TV show or discussion group. Man, it's in the wind – and it's blowing in the wind. Too many of these hip people are telling me where the answer is but oh I won't believe that. I still say it's in the wind and just like a restless piece of paper it's got to come down some ... But the only trouble is that no one picks up the answer when it comes down so not too many people get to see and know ... and then it flies away. I still say that some of the biggest criminals are those that turn their heads away when they see wrong and know it's wrong. I'm only 21 years old and I know that there's been too many wars ... You people over 21, you're older and smarter."
The song was first performed in its entirety on TV in the UK in January of 1963, during Madhouse on Castle Street for the BBC. During his first televised US performance, Dylan also performed the track.
"Blowin' in the Wind" has been critically acclaimed over the years and became a staple for the civil rights movement. Critic and music historian Andy Gill wrote of the song,
"'Blowin' in the Wind' marked a huge jump in Dylan's songwriting. Prior to this, efforts like 'The Ballad of Donald White' and 'The Death of Emmett Till' had been fairly simplistic bouts of reportage songwriting. "Blowin' in the Wind" was different: for the first time, Dylan discovered the effectiveness of moving from the particular to the general."
"Blowin' in the Wind" was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1994. Rolling Stone ranked it at number 14 on its list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time."

Making the most of your space often comes down to choosing decor pieces that do more than one job. If you’re working with limited square footage, it’s worth getting creative with how and where you store your belongings. Furniture that doubles as storage can make a big difference, helping your home feel more organized without adding clutter.
One standout option is the Sunmory Floor Lamp With Shelves. It’s currently on sale at Walmart, bringing the price down from $56 to just $30 for the black version of the lamp. For something that serves both as lighting and a storage solution, that price makes it a practical upgrade for almost any room.
Sunmory Floor Lamp With Shelves, From $30 (was $56) at Walmart Shop at WalmartThe version we’re highlighting features a classic black finish with three built-in shelves, though there are several variations available. You can choose from seven designs, including three or five-tier options, different finishes like brown or white, and even versions with RGB lighting and app control. It stands 63 inches tall and is designed for a quick setup that takes about 10 minutes using the included tools.
It comes with a 1000 lumen LED bulb that provides clear and comfortable illumination for reading, working, or relaxing. It also offers three adjustable color temperatures ranging from 3000K to 6500K, so you can switch between warm and cool lighting depending on your mood or time of day.
Functionality extends to the design as well. The lamp includes a hidden cable channel to keep cords neat and out of sight, which helps maintain a clean look. Its weighted base gives it extra stability, which is especially helpful if you have pets or kids around.
The built-in shelves are a major selling point. Made from durable MDF board, each shelf can hold up to 50 pounds, making them ideal for books, plants, decor, or everyday essentials. The extra depth gives you more flexibility in how you use the space, whether you’re styling it or using it purely for storage.
Design-wise, it fits easily into a variety of interiors. The minimalist silhouette, paired with a soft linen lampshade, works well with styles like modern, farmhouse, or mid-century-inspired spaces. It’s versatile enough to place in a living room corner, beside a bed, or even in a home office.
This bestseller has over 900 five-star ratings. One shopper described it as “beautiful,” adding, “The light it gives off creates a calm and relaxing environment. The materials seem to be good quality and overall it's pretty sturdy.”

Ariana Grande Abruptly Exits 'American Horror Story' Season 13 Just Months Before Premiere

The news comes after the RyanMurphy production announced the upcoming season will feature stars from previous seasons, including JessicaLange, SarahPaulson, EvanPeters, AngelaBassett, KathyBates, EmmaRoberts, BillieLourd, GaboureySidibe, and LeslieGrossman.
The singer and actress has left the show because of scheduling conflicts with her “Eternal Sunshine” tour, according to Variety'sreporting.
This would have been Grande’s debut in the FX franchise. She previously worked with Murphey, Roberts, and Lourd in the 2015 series Scream Queens.
In November, the “Thank U, Next” singer spoke to Variety about her role in Season 13 of American Horror Story.
“I know a little tiny bit. What I know I cannot say. I am coming into the world in a way that I don’t know much about yet,” Grande said. “I received a text, a very exciting text [from Murphy]. I’ll probably have a very tiny thing to do in it, but I’ll be grateful to be a part of it because I love everyone in it.”
There is still very little known about what this season of American Horror Story has in store for fans.
In April, Ryan Murphy Productions gave a teaser with an Instagram post. It included a photo of Paulson with the caption: “AHS 13 The Return of @mssarahcatharinepaulson as Cordelia Goode. The Supreme Rises. And yes we have rebuilt the entire Robichaux Academy. Coming this September.”
The Robichaux Academy refers to 2013’s Season 3, Coven. The Academy is an all-girl boarding school for witchcraft, led by Paulson’s character.

American Horror Story Season 13 is set to premiere on FX and Hulu on Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. PT.
2000s Rocker Reveals 'Rare Blood Disorder' One Week After Abruptly Canceling Tour
Matt Skiba is giving fans an update after a health scare forced Alkaline Trio to cut its European tour short.
One week after the band canceled its remaining overseas dates, the 50-year-old musician shared a photo of a syringe filled with vitamin B12 on Instagram on Friday, July 10, giving fans a better idea of what he's been dealing with behind the scenes.
"My first time using a needle. B12. I might have a rare blood disorder that is as rare as it is treatable they tell me," Skiba wrote. "I’m getting loads of tests done and staying positive, doc seems convinced that I should heal quickly. Fingers crossed. All my love to anyone out there who is actually suffering. x."
View this post on InstagramWhile Skiba didn't reveal a diagnosis, the update was enough to reassure fans that he's receiving treatment and feeling optimistic about his recovery.
“Sending you waves of healing energy and love! You got this!” one fan wrote in the comments.
Another said, “So glad to see you post, your fans care a lot! 🖤Take care of yourself.”
“Much relief seeing your name pop up! I hope you recover quickly and are starting to feel better,” replied a third.
Alkaline Trio was forced to cancel the remainder of its 2026 European tour just hours before taking the stage in Birmingham, England on Friday, July 3.

In a statement shared on Instagram, the band apologized to fans, explaining that the decision was due to "medical issues Matt has been suffering from that have worsened." Although they didn't disclose exactly what was wrong, they emphasized that "He’s gonna be okay but needs to be treated stateside as soon as possible. We will be back healthier and stronger."
The cancellation followed another concerning update just days earlier, when Skiba revealed he'd been injured in a motorcycle accident before flying from Los Angeles to Europe. Despite sharing a photo of his bruised leg and telling fans he was "Jacked up but hoping to play on my feet today. Fingers crossed," he still attempted to perform.
After the tour was scrapped, Skiba addressed fans in a video filmed from London's Heathrow Airport, explaining that he could no longer give them the show they deserved. He revealed he'd lost feeling in both his hands and feet and was also struggling with his voice, making it impossible to continue performing.
Whether the motorcycle accident and Skiba's recent health issues are related remains to be seen. For now, fans are simply hoping the tests bring answers and a speedy recovery.
Kate Middleton Is Back and Ready for Summer at the Royal Charity Polo Cup in Windsor
The Princess of Wales made a welcome return to the sidelines of the DMMI Royal Charity Polo Cup on Friday, trading two years of absence for a sleeveless black-and-white gingham dress and a front-row seat to cheer on her husband. It was Prince William's 15th time competing in the charity match at Guards Polo Club - but for Kate, it felt like starting a new chapter. This was her first appearance at the event since 2023, having stepped back amid her cancer treatment and recovery.
The sweetest moment came after the final whistle. At the awards ceremony, Kate greeted her husband (still dusty from the match) with a kiss on the cheek, mirroring the same tender gesture the two shared back in 2023. For a couple famously private about affection in public, it was a small moment that said plenty. This year's polo cup is expected to raise more than $20 million for charities close to the couple's hearts, including Wales Air Ambulance, Evelina London Children's Hospital, Tŷ Hafan children's hospice, and the Maternal Mental Health Alliance.
View this post on InstagramRoyal etiquette expert Myka Meier, founder of Beaumont Etiquette, told PEOPLE that moments like these come down to instinct rather than protocol. "Senior members of the royal family would likely not be told how to interact or when they can or cannot show PDA," she explained, adding that royals tend to "adjust PDA to mirror the formality of the event they are attending."
Kate wasn't the only familiar face in the crowd, either. William's cousin Peter Phillips turned out with his new wife, Harriet, and her daughter, Georgina - a nod to the couple's wedding last month, which William and Kate also attended.
It's a full-circle moment for Kate, who was once a fixture at this very match (*she even brought the family dog, Orla, along in 2022) before pausing her appearances during cancer treatment. Royal fans are thrilled she's not just back on her feet, but back in her element.
Former James Bond Casting Director Shares Her Vision for the Next 007
James Bond fans just got another intriguing update in the ongoing search for the next 007.
Speaking Friday, July 10, at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, former James Bond casting director Debbie McWilliams — who cast the past 14 Bond films — shared her thoughts on the future of cinema's most famous spy while reflecting on the franchise she helped shape, according to Variety.
When asked whether James Bond could be portrayed by a woman or a person of color, McWilliams offered a straightforward answer.
"Not in my opinion. No," she said. “Ian Fleming wrote a character, and that’s the character that stays. That’s what I think. I mean, other people might think otherwise, but I don’t think that.”
Although Amazon MGM Studios has not announced its next James Bond, fan speculation has centered on actors including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, James Norton, Harris Dickinson, Jacob Elordi and Paul Mescal. Former contender Idris Elba has repeatedly said he isn't interested in taking on the role, while Lashana Lynch made franchise history by portraying MI6 agent Nomi, who temporarily inherited the 007 designation in No Time to Die.
McWilliams also revealed that she initially wasn't convinced Daniel Craig — dubbed the Blonde Bond by critics for making history as the first blonde actor to take on the role — was the right choice for Casino Royale until producer Barbara Broccoli insisted on meeting him. That decision ultimately ushered in one of the franchise's most successful eras.
With a new creative team in place and speculation reaching a fever pitch, Bond fans may not have to wait much longer to learn who will receive the world's most famous license to kill.
Still, McWilliams may not be grabbing her popcorn for the new iteration of Bond, adding, “You know, it’s about to change dramatically, is all I can say. And I’m not sure whether I’ll be paying my money to go and see it or not.”

Garth Brooks Sends Clear Message to Fans Hoping to Catch Him on the Road
Concertgoers have felt the sting of rising ticket prices for years, but now one of country music's biggest stars is acknowledging just how difficult it has become for fans to afford a night out.
Country music icon Garth Brooks is opening up about the challenge as he prepares to return to the road with his upcoming Blame It All On My Roots Tour.
"Let's talk for a moment about the cost to go to a concert," Brooks said, according to a news update posted to his official website on Friday, July 10. "There's the ticket price. Currently, the average country concert ticket price is $175. That's the average. Dang! You never go alone, so double it, at least. Parking? Want a T-shirt or two? Maybe dinner? You are looking at one expensive evening."
Related: Garth Brooks Says There’s ‘No Other Explanation’ for What Happened at His Concert
"Affordability is always the question," he continued. "And that's more challenging today than it has ever been in my career. "Did I think in the '90s that $20, $50 was a lot of money? You bet. Do I think $20 or $50 is still a lot of money? Yes, I do. With that said, touring costs are not the same as they were in the '90s. Hell, on the Comeback Tour, I saw in some cities that parking cost more than tickets."
View this post on InstagramBrooks' comments come just days after he announced his upcoming tour. Along with the news, Brooks also confirmed that every ticket will cost $154 (plus applicable fees), regardless of section. So, whether you're in the front row or in the third level, you will pay the same price (unless you purchase a ticket that is up for resale).
In his update, Brooks said that he's heard many of his fans say that they'd love to see him on tour but they simply cannot afford it.
"I believe it is my job to try to make the number of people who say that as small as possible," Brooks said.
Brooks' first two tour dates are on Aug. 21 and 22 at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. Those tickets will go on sale on July 17 at 10 a.m. Eastern. The "Friends in Low Places" singer is expected to announce additional tour dates soon.

One of Horror’s Biggest Franchises Is Leaving Netflix After Just 4 Months
Sorry, horror fans! It looks like the genre is taking a major kick on Netflix come Sunday, July 19.
The Saw franchise — consisting of Jigsaw (2017), Raven Song (2023), Saw (2004), Saw II (2005) Saw III (2006), Saw IV (2007), Saw V (2008), Saw VI (2009), Saw: The Final Chapter (2010), and Spiral: From the Book of Saw (2021) — will be leaving the streaming giant after just four months.
The Saw franchise became available to stream on Netflix on Thursday, March 19.
So, will the 10 terrifying flicks start streaming elsewhere? As of the date of publication, the entire Saw franchise isn’t streaming anywhere else. However, you can buy/rent the movies on various platforms, like Prime Video or Apple TV.
Created by Australian filmmakers James Wan and Leigh Whannell, Saw debuted in 2004 and starred Cary Elwes and Leigh Whannell as two men trapped in one of Jigsaw Killer’s deadly games.

Since then, the franchise has amassed a huge fanbase, many of whom praise the films as some of the greatest that the genre has ever seen.
Taking to a Reddit forum in 2025, movie lovers debated over this question: “Do you agree that Saw is the greatest horror movie franchise of all time? Yes, no, or why?”
“Actually, yes. I could watch Saw 1-7 over and over again. It's comfort viewing. Jigsaw was OK … Spiral wasn't really Saw … Saw X was a very decent film, especially the start to when the games begin. But none of the last three additions are terrible. Overall, I feel Saw is the most consistent horror franchise in terms of quality and continuity,” one viewer argued.
“Probably not the greatest, but it is one of my favorites by far. Namely because of the twists, characters, music, actors, and look and feel,” added another, while a third person chimed in, “I don't just because I feel like you can't make a contest of art. Did it scare me the most? Yes. Do I love it the most? Also, yes.”
Billboard Just Called This 1983 Smash 'an Absolute One-of-One in Pop History'
In 1983, Bonnie Tyler released a power ballad that seemed almost too big for pop radio.
More than four decades later, Billboard believes that may be exactly why "Total Eclipse of the Heart" still stands apart.
In a newly published retrospective honoring Tyler following her death at age 75 on July 8, the publication called her signature hit "an absolute one-of-one in pop history," arguing that few Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 songs have ever been as distinctive or instantly recognizable.
According to Billboard, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" became far more than an early MTV-era hit. The publication described it as a power ballad, heartbreak anthem and karaoke staple that has carved out "a place in pop music history entirely its own," adding that "nobody would ever confuse it for any other song."
That singular status, Billboard argues, came from the unique pairing of songwriter and producer Jim Steinman with Tyler's unmistakable raspy voice. Steinman wrote the song as a showcase for Tyler after the two began working together in the early 1980s, creating a dramatic, emotionally oversized recording that became unlike anything else on pop radio.
Released as the lead single from Faster Than the Speed of Night, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" spent four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and finished 1983 as Billboard's No. 6 song of the year. Although the original recording ran more than seven minutes, it was edited to about four and a half minutes for radio before becoming Tyler's biggest career hit.
Its popularity has only grown with time. The song has sold more than 13 million copies worldwide, surpassed one billion streams on Spotify and topped digital sales charts again during the 2024 total solar eclipse, proving that its appeal stretches well beyond the era in which it was recorded.
Billboard also noted another remarkable distinction: more than 40 years after its release, "Total Eclipse of the Heart" remains the only song by a Welsh artist ever to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, another reason the publication considers it truly one of a kind.
Following Tyler's death on July 8 after complications from a prolonged illness, tributes poured in from across the music world, including messages from Bryan Adams, Sir Cliff Richard,Kevin Bacon and the Prince and Princess of Wales, plus a live performance by Rod Stewart of one of her other iconic hits "It's a Heartache," all honoring the singer whose voice helped turn one of pop's most dramatic recordings into an enduring classic.

'Widow's Bay' Star Dale Dickey Shares Hilarious Reaction to First Ever Emmy Nomination: 'Dear God in Heaven, What the Hell Just Happened?'
Dale Dickey has enjoyed a long and successful career in the entertainment industry, capped off by plenty of critical acclaim and prestigious awards within the field.
But even the 64-year-old Dickey herself is shocked that she's received her first-ever Emmy nomination for her role in Apple TV's Widow's Bay.
Referencing her recent Emmy nomination, Dickey kicked off her conversation with Vulture by saying, “Dear God in heaven, what the hell just happened?”
Continuing on, the former Breaking Bad actress then went on to proclaim, "Nobody is more shocked and surprised than me.”
As fans will readily recall, Dickey plays the hilarious town gossip of Widow's Bay, Rosemary, who frequently butts heads with the town's well-meaning mayor (Matthew Rhys).
Throughout her time on the show, Dickey earned a place among fans with her deadpan humor and standoffish personality, leading to frequently humorous moments opposite some of the show's more energetic cast members.
Recounting the way in which she learned of her nomination, Dickey said she was casually looking across the Emmy's announcements when she saw her name appear in the listing.
"After I watched it, I knew there was some love for Widow’s Bay and I was very ecstatic, so I went on my computer and I thought, Okay, I’ll just scroll through the rest of them. And I’m scrolling and I get to Supporting Actors in a Comedy, and as I’m scrolling, I see my f**king face — excuse my language — but I’m like, 'No, why is that … What?!'"
While Dickey said she wasn't surprised to see her cast mate, Kate O'Flynn, earn a nomination, seeing her own name on the Emmy's list proved as something of a shock.
"I mean, look, I thoroughly expected and knew that Kate would be on the list, and she’s got my vote if I could vote in my category," Dickey explained. "But it was out of left field for me."
Trump Administration Halts Longstanding Plan to Put Harriet Tubman on the $20 Bill
A decade ago, a plan was launched to put Harriet Tubman’s face on the $20 bill. However, it appears that is no longer happening.
Spectrum News reports that the Trump Administration has abandoned the plans, instead deciding to keep Andrew Jackson on the front and a photo of the White House on the back.
Tubman was an American abolitionist who helped conduct 13 missions on the Underground Railroad that freed around 70 slaves. She also served as an advocate for women's voting rights after slavery was abolished.
As for Jackson, he was the seventh President of the United States and favored slavery.
In 2016, President Barack Obama’s Treasury Secretary Jack Lew shared a letter to the public in which he first talked about the change where the front of the $20 bill would have Tubman’s face, while the back would be Jackson and a photo of the White House. At first, they planned to release the new bill in 2020.
This would have made Tubman both the first woman on an American Bill as well as the first Black individual.
However, during Trump's presidential campaign that same year, he spoke out against it, calling the plan “pure political correctness.” During his first term, he pushed the plan back to 2026. Then, when Joe Biden was elected, it was once again pushed back to 2030.
Recently, when asked by Spectrum News about the plans regarding Tubman and the $20 bill, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that they do not currently intend to do so. The outlet further added that they reached out to the White House, asking if President Trump had directed the Treasury Department to end these plans.
Beloved '80s Artist, 70, Blows Fans Away With Haunting Performance of Sleeper Hit: 'What a Voice He Has'
Getting tickets to see an "older" artist is always a gamble. Will they be able to bring the same energy they had in their youth? Are they going to play the songs we know and love? Can they even still sing? In the case of Chris Isaak, 70, a recent performance confirmed all three questions can be answered with a resounding yes.
Currently, Isaak is touring Europe, performing at various festivals across the continent in some of its most legendary venues. Isaak recently performed his iconic hit "Wicked Game" at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, UK, and it completely knocked the socks off unsuspecting concertgoers. To say jaws were on the floor is an understatement.
@ukcountrynewsWhat a night at @bridgewaterhall , Manchester with the one and only @Chris Isaak . Our first time seeing Chris live, and all I can say is… wow. He was absolutely phenomenal. Not only is he an incredibly gifted musician and vocalist, but he’s genuinely hilarious too, keeping the audience laughing between songs with his quick wit and stories. One of the things I loved most was just how effortlessly he and his band performed together. You can tell they’ve played together for years – every musician had their chance to shine, and Chris made sure to give them their moment. It felt like watching a masterclass in live performance. And then there’s that voice… I always love it when an artist sounds just like their records, and Chris Isaak somehow sounds every bit as good live. Hearing “Wicked Game” performed in person was simply unforgettable. If you’ve still got the chance to catch the final UK date tomorrow night at @demontforthall , Leicester, there appear to be a handful of tickets still available. If you’re even remotely thinking about it… go. You won’t regret it. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Remaining European dates: July 8 - Leicester, UK July 13 - Essen, GER July 16 - Carcassonne, FR #chrisisaak #wickedgame #bridgewaterhall #manchester #nashville
♬ original sound - UK COUNTRY NEWS"What a voice he has," proclaimed one fan.
"Wow, still sounds absolutely fantastic," another noted.
"I saw him years ago in London when he was top of the charts. Oh my, he was wonderful, so glad he still has it," confirmed another.

'Wicked Game' Has EnduredAt the time of its release, the now-iconic song didn't do much for listeners or critics on its own. According to Far Out Magazine, Isaak initially disagreed with the tracking of the song off his 1989 album, Heart Shaped World. In particular, he was put off by the now-beloved guitar riff written by James Calvin Wilsey. Once Isaak saw it picking up steam in the studio, however, he whipped up lyrics haunting enough to match the eerie guitar.
Ironically, it was that melancholy riff that caught director David Lynch's ear, so much so that he put an instrumental version of it into his film Wild at Heart. The guitar work became so recognizable that people started hunting down the vocal track, and it shot to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2019, the song actually shot to No. 1 on the digital charts after it was covered on The Voice. In total, it spent 24 weeks on the hot chart during its original run.
“There was a girl on the way over,” Isaak said during a February 1991 interview, Rolling Stonereports. “It was one of those things where they call, they say, ‘I’m comin’ over.’ You know you shouldn’t, but you let ’em. Hang up the phone and go, ‘Oh, no. Now we’re gonna be in trouble.’”
It is inarguable that the song was made whole and interesting by that riff, but unfortunately, Wilsey still didn't get his flowers after Isaak did. Isaak is publicly credited as the sole songwriter behind the 1989 hit "Wicked Game," and Wilsey’s deep-seated resentment grew over being treated as a replaceable "sideman" rather than an equal co-creator. He was never given a writing credit.
The issue ultimately fractured his 12-year partnership with Isaak, triggering a dark, heartbreaking descent into depression and severe substance abuse. By 2013, he’d developed hepatitis C and cirrhosis of the liver, and he tragically passed away in 2018.

Beloved Country Singer Appears to Hard Launch New Romance After Revealing Major Career Announcement
A pair of Instagram Stories may have just confirmed country music's newest couple.
Maren Morris and Cassadee Pope have sparked dating buzz after sharing affectionate photos (including one showing the two kissing) with their followers.
The speculation began when Morris shared an Instagram carousel on Tuesday, July 7, which featured a photo getting close with Pope. Pope later reposted the image to her Instagram Stories, joking, "Trying to get bb to move here, everyone help."
If that wasn't enough to convince fans, Pope, 36, followed it up with another Story showing the pair kissing, alongside the playful caption, "she won’t go out with you because she’s out with me, silly."
It’s safe to say fans were sent into a frenzy online.
is this actually happening?!?!? bc i would die pic.twitter.com/k7sqB8daLM
— ethan (@ethansflavor) July 7, 2026“EXCUSE ME???? OH MY GOD,” one wrote on X.
Another said, “So here for this!!,” while a third replied, “I’m going to collapse.”
Longtime fans will know that the singers have known each other for years. They were photographed together in 2019 at the 54th Academy of Country Music Awards Cumulus, and Pope later joined Morris as an opening act on her Girl: The World Tour. They also publicly stood together in 2022 during a widely discussed social media dispute with Brittany Aldean over comments about the transgender community.
The apparent relationship comes after a period of major personal change for Morris. Following her divorce from fellow country singer Ryan Hurd, she came out as bisexual in 2024 with a Pride Month post that read, "Happy to be the B in LGBTQ+." The post has since been deleted.
And professionally, Morris is also preparing for a new chapter. During a July 3 appearance on Today, the 36-year-old revealed she'll be stepping away from touring after wrapping up her current dreamGirl Tour. "This is sort of my last tour for a bit, because I want to be able to free-think more and be in the studio more, and just figure out what I want to say next," she explained.
Her plans include spending more time with her 6-year-old son, Hayes, as he starts kindergarten, while exploring new creative opportunities—including her longtime dream of writing for Broadway.

'90s Rock Band Announces New Album 33 Years After Forming
More than three decades after forming, Fuel is preparing to add another chapter to its catalog.
The veteran rock band has announced that its seventh studio album, Pendulum, will be released on Oct. 30. The news arrived alongside the debut of the album's lead single, "Want It," which is available now on streaming platforms.
The band shared the announcement with fans on Instagram, writing:
"'Want It' is out now. 🔥 Our seventh studio album, Pendulum, arrives October 30. Stream 'Want It' now and pre-save Pendulum at the link in bio. 🤘"
The upcoming release marks Fuel's first studio album since 2021’s Ånomåly, continuing the band's legacy more than 33 years after it first came together in Tennessee in 1993.
"You're always trying to outdo your last record," guitarist Carl Bell told Guitar Thrills in 2021. "Trying to outdo yourself. Trying to write the best songs you can write. At the end of the day, it's about the songs."
Fuel rose to prominence during the late 1990s and early 2000s with a string of mainstream rock hits that helped define the post-grunge era. Songs such as "Shimmer," "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)," "Bad Day," "Falls on Me" and "Won't Back Down" earned heavy radio airplay while establishing the group as one of the era's most recognizable rock acts.
Among those songs, "Hemorrhage (In My Hands)" remains the band’s signature hit. The single spent 12 weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Alternative Airplay chart and has become one of the most enduring rock songs of the early 2000s.
"If you write about what happened to you and what has happened in your life, it kind of comes through in a song and people will understand that," Bell told Guitar Player.
Despite lineup changes over the years, Fuel has continued recording and touring, maintaining a loyal fan base while introducing new music alongside the classics. The announcement of Pendulum signals that the band isn't simply relying on nostalgia but is continuing to expand its catalog more than three decades into its career.
With "Want It" serving as the first preview of the new album, fans now have their first glimpse of Fuel's next musical chapter. As Pendulum arrives this fall, the release will mark another milestone for a band that has remained a fixture of modern rock since the early 1990s.
