The Famous Voice Behind Home Depot Ads Is Finally Revealed—and Fans Definitely Know Him

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 9:33am

For over a decade, you've heard his voice on Home Depot television and radio commercials. Now,Palm Royale star Josh Lucas is finally taking center stage for the beloved home improvement brand in a dynamic new FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign.

In the commercial, Lucas teams up with global sports icon David Beckham to transform a backyard into "the ultimate watch party zone." Speaking from a Home Depot via telephone, Lucas guides Beckham—and viewers—through the challenge with the flair of a sports commentator.

"Is David Beckham ready? I suppose he thinks he can build it like Beckham," Lucas says, with a playful nod to the 2002 movie, Bend It Like Beckham. Speaking with PEOPLEabout the commercial, Lucas explained how it all came to fruition: "When the company came to me with the idea, at the time they called it 'Revealing the Voice.' I was like, 'Are you kidding me? It's something I would be so totally honored to do.'"

The Yellowstone actor also noted that fans tend to recognize his voice more than his face, thanks to his long-running Home Depot gig. "I'll walk into a Home Depot, and people are like, 'Oh my God.' Oftentimes, they say to me, 'Oh, I recognized your voice before I actually put it together that it was you.'"

As for working with both Home Depot and Beckham, Lucas is humbled to have his passions collide in the best of ways. He told PEOPLE, "My grandfather was a builder. I can hack anything, so I definitely feel like I am lucky that I get to be part of a company that I, frankly, would use whether I was involved or not."

"I played soccer growing up. I'm a huge FIFA World Cup fan. And I'm a massive David Beckham fan. I can't even like overstate it, frankly. I've been joking with my wife [ABC7 meteorologist/reporter Brianna Ruffalo] ever since that I have the worst man crush ever now on David Beckham," Lucas added. "It's rare that you walk away from a day of work like that and you feel, like all the stars aligned."

The 4 Luckiest Birth Years, According to Expert Numerologists

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 9:24am

The year you were born is an essential number in numerology, tied to your cosmic path and greater soul purpose. Each serves a divine purpose, with each generation ushering in a new universal responsibility. However, expert numerologists point out which birth years are often considered auspicious or lucky. Whether they're here to inspire change, spread their gifts, or challenge the status quo, read on to discover which four birth years are considered the most blessed below.

Which Birth Year Numbers Are Most Auspicious?

Check your birth year below. Disregard your birth month and day.

Your birth year is converted to a single digit by adding together the digits of the year. For example, if someone was born in 1954, the calculation would be: 1 + 9 + 5 + 4 = 19 → 1 + 9 = 10 → 1 + 0 = 1. Fortunately, the calculations for every birth year from 1951 to 2026 have already been considered and are listed below, if applicable.

LEARN MORE:

Birth Year 3 — The Gifted Creator

Born in 1956, 1965, 1974, 1983, 1992, 2001, 2010, or 2019

People born in this birth year are incredibly fortunate. They embody creativity and are often gifted and skilled individuals. As versatile learners, they explore a variety of passion projects and exciting experiences. However, when they focus on their favorite topic, skill, or outlet, they can achieve remarkable success.

Abundance tends to follow them, as long as they pursue their curious joy. The number three is ruled by Jupiter, the planet associated with expansive luck, suggesting that those born in this year have their stars aligned. This generation is called to inspire others with their authenticity, encouraging free thought, confidence, and a spirit of experimental playfulness.

Birth Year 7 — The Divinely Protected

Born in 1951, 1960, 1969, 1978, 1987, 1996, 2005, or 2014

Throughout history, many cultures have considered the number seven to be sacred or lucky. Individuals born in a year that totals seven are often seen as divinely blessed. With strong protection from their guardian angels, they tend to remain attuned to a higher perspective.

Combining intuitive awareness with intellectual analysis, they have a unique ability to unravel complex situations and mysteries. Their spiritual luck remains abundant as long as they honor their inner wisdom over external noise and opinions. Frequently, they find recharge and reconnection with their greater purpose in solitude, making it essential for them to stay aligned with their true path.

Birth Year 8 — The Infinite Powerhouse

Born in 1952, 1961, 1970, 1979, 1988, 1997, 2006, or 2015

If you look at the number 8, you’ll notice that it resembles the infinity symbol turned sideways. This shape suggests infinite possibilities! People born in a year whose digits add up to 8 are part of a collective, generational effort to reclaim power. Ruled by Saturn, the planet of karmic discipline, they often achieve great feats due to their unstoppable resilience.

From a young age, they carry the wisdom and perspective of old souls. Therefore, they typically have a heightened awareness of the material plane, which can lead to career success, excellent money management, and a strong foundation that benefits those who follow in their footsteps. Overall, this birth year group is fortunate because they foster a meaningful destiny that not only improves what they inherit but also enhances the lives of others under their leadership.

Birth Year 9 — The Karmic Changemaker

Born in 1953, 1962, 1971, 1980, 1989, 1998, 2007, or 2016

With a humanitarian spirit and a passion for instilling change, those born in a year ending in nine are destined to make a significant impact on the world. Numerologists often associate the number nine with a high vibration, representing the completion of cycles.

Consequently, individuals with this birth year may inherit karmic rewards from previous lifetimes filled with effort and experience. As innovators influenced by Mars, the warrior planet, they are not fighters in the traditional sense, but they will passionately defend what and who matters most to them. Courageous in the face of injustice, they create change by setting trends and encouraging others to reflect on what truly matters. Their luck continues to flourish as long as they challenge the status quo and pursue their higher vision.

1974 Horror Film's Most Terrifying Scene Took 27 Hours Straight to Shoot - Cast Went 'Insane'

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 9:15am

Imagine this: Deep into a brutal Texas summer night in 1973, inside a remote farmhouse with no air conditioning, and the temperature has climbed to a grueling 115 degrees. Rotting meat hangs from the ceiling as props, filling the air with an overwhelming stench. The cast has been filming for 20 hours straight. Then 22. Then 25.

They still have more to go.

This was the unimaginable reality behind The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's infamous dinner scene — five minutes of macabre footage that became one of horror cinema's most disturbing sequences.

The problem started with John Dugan, the actor playing the ancient, corpse-like Grandpa. Getting him camera-ready required an intense 10-hour makeup application. When filming day arrived, Dugan made one thing absolutely clear: he wasn't going through that process twice.

Director Tobe Hooper had no other choice. Everything would have to be filmed in a single marathon shoot.

Twenty-seven hours later, they finally wrapped the scene.

"By that point we were really just on the verge of mental collapse," Gunnar Hansen, who played Leatherface, later recalled. "I think all of us were slightly insane by then."

The conditions were horrendous. Hot film lights blazed in an un-air-conditioned room. The rotting meat — authentic animal parts baking for weeks — made breathing nearly impossible. Between takes, actors ran to windows, gasping for air and vomiting from the stench.

They couldn't change their clothes. Due to budget restrictions, each actor had only one single costume. By hour 20, everyone on set reeked. By hour 25, they'd stopped caring.

Marilyn Burns, who played Sally Hardesty, had it the worst. Strapped to a chair for most of those 27 hours while men in grotesque makeup loomed over her, screaming and jabbing with props, she wasn't acting terrified anymore. She was actually terrified.

The marathon pushed everyone beyond reason. When the fake blood rig for Sally's finger-cutting scene kept clogging after multiple takes, an exhausted Hansen simply removed the safety tape and cut Burns for real. "At this point I was so crazy that I just wanted to get the film over with," he later admitted.

Why That Suffering Still Matters

As a lifelong horror fan, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre still stands as the most macabre movie in cinema history. I've watched it at least a hundred times, and it always gives me the chills. That authenticity — especially in the dinner scene — is why.

Photo by Movie Poster Image Art on Getty Images

Everything about it is psychologically terrifying: being bound to a chair made of human bones with chaos erupting around you, unable to escape. The family's cheering, jeering, and sneering. And the most frightening moment — when they hold Sally still and push her head over the bucket while trying to have Grandpa slaughter her with a hammer. Only he's too weak, so the family keeps holding it in his hands, simulating the motion, missing repeatedly. All while screaming, taunting, and terrorizing her beyond the brink of sanity.

The whole scene stops me cold. Every single time.

Knowing the conditions behind it matters: What you're watching on screen isn't acting. It's real people pushed beyond their breaking point. Marilyn Burns' genuine terror after 27 hours strapped down, the cast's actual exhaustion and derangement — that's what makes it work decades later.

From "Sick Crap" to Masterpiece

The film was born from chaotic creativity. Late in winter, Hooper and co-writer, Kim Henkel, would meet nightly at Hooper's unfurnished apartment. They'd sit on the dining room floor working out scenes, then Henkel would bang out the pages on an old typewriter. His goal: keep Hooper happy with each draft page.

Nobody was happy during that 27-hour shoot.

Shot on a dismal budget starting at $60,000 and ballooning past $100,000, the production was absolutely brutal. Cast members wore the same sweat-soaked, blood-stained costumes every single day. By production's end, they avoided eating near Hansen because his wool Leatherface costume — never washed in triple-digit heat — smelled so horrendous.

When the film opened in October 1974, critics savaged it. One viewer called the movie "sick crap." Even the Rice University football team blamed it for their loss to Arkansas.

But, then critic Rex Reed told readers to "run, not walk" to theaters. And then they received a Cannes invitation. Even the Museum of Modern Art acquired a print of the movie poster.

Fifty years later, it's called "a perfect horror film" and "one of the most emulated genre films of the last half century."

Why does it endure? Because Hooper captured something vulnerable and raw — human beings at their absolute limits, their exhaustion and fear bleeding through the screen.

Those people in that dinner scene weren't acting anymore. After 27 hours in that heat, breathing that stench, they'd crossed over into something else entirely. Insanity fueled by fear.

Knowing what they endured gives the film new appreciation. Sometimes the most effective horror happens in between takes. And sometimes suffering becomes art that terrifies us a hundred viewings later.

Meredith Vieira, 72, Smiles in Rare Public Appearance Alongside Susan Lucci

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 9:11am

Meredith Vieira isn't one for red carpets these days, but the former Today host shared that famous smile in a rare public appearance alongside friend Susan Lucci.

Vieira, 72, a veteran journalist best known for her time on The View and Today, left the legendary NBC morning news show in 2011. While she still serves as the host of the game show 25 Words or Less, it's rare to see Vieira out and about, particularly since the death of her husband of 50 years, Richard Cohen. However, the broadcast icon made an exception to step out with All My Children legend Lucci in honor of her new book, La Lucci. The soap opera veteran, 79, who rose to stardom portraying Erica Kane on the ABC daytime drama, owned the legendary role from 1970 to 2011. While her soap opera reign may be complete, her time in the spotlight continues to get brighter. Naturally, these two likely had plenty to talk about.

"Over the weekend I had so much fun doing a book signing at the Gold Coast Book Fair in Oyster Bay!!!! Chatting all things La Lucci with @meredithvieira was a joy and meeting so many of you in person was a personal highlight. 💕💕💕," Lucci captioned the photo, which showed her alongside Vieira.

When Did Meredith Vieira's Husband Die?

Vieira's husband, Richard Cohen, died on Christmas Eve of 2024 at the age of 76. His death came after living more than 50 years with multiple sclerosis and surviving two cancer diagnoses, PEOPLE reported.

What Has Susan Lucci Said About Losing Her Husband?

Lucci and Vieira can likely relate to each other's grief experiences. Lucci lost her beloved husband, Helmut Huber, in March 2022. In her new memoir, La Lucci, which was released on Feb. 3, Lucci shared that she never fully understood the depth of grief until she experienced it herself.

“I realized that grief is not something you can really understand until you go through it — until you experience it. Until it’s your grief and you’re sitting in the front row at the funeral,” she writes in the new memoir, AARP reported. “I spent the whole month of March with Helmut, and I am forever grateful for the time I had with him every day. I felt lucky to share that time together.”

This Dollywood Summer Student Promotion Is Just Another Reason Why Dolly Is the Literal Best

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 9:10am

If you grew up in the '80s or '90s, nothing matched the absolute core-memory thrill of walking into a local Pizza Hut with a shiny plastic button full of star stickers to claim your hard-earned, personal pan prize. The iconic BOOK IT! program made a simple cheese or pepperoni pizza feel like winning an Olympic medal, sparking a distinct generation of kids who would read an entire chapter book just for the taste of melty mozzarella.

Well, for anyone chasing that collective childhood nostalgia, Dolly Parton’s latest summer park promotion is bringing that exact celebratory energy back—with a massive, sun-soaked water park upgrade.

From May 23 to June 14, 2026, Dollywood’s Splash Country in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, is officially bringing back its wildly popular School’s Out! Promotion. To celebrate kids for surviving another long year of homework, pop quizzes and early morning bus rides, the park is rolling out a deal that feels like a spiritual successor to our favorite retro reading rewards.

Any student aged 4 to 18 who rolls up to the ticket window with their end-of-year report card in hand will receive admission to the 35-acre water park along with a personal cheese or pepperoni pizza for just $34.99 plus tax.

The best part about the whole program is that Dolly isn’t gatekeeping the fun behind perfect grades or a flawless GPA. In true, warm-hearted Dolly fashion, the promotion embraces every kind of student.

Whether they are rocking straight A's or simply earned a solid, hard-fought "A for effort," every single student qualifies for the discount as long as they show a valid report card and are present at the gate. It is a brilliant way to wrap up the school season, giving families a major budget break just as the mercury begins to climb and summer vacation officially kicks off.

Beyond the nostalgic pizza perks for students, the park is also doubling down on its community-first philosophy with the return of its long-running Sevier County Days.

Operating on a staggered schedule throughout early June, this sister promotion allows anyone who lives or works locally to experience Dollywood or Splash Country for a mere five-dollar donation.

All of those proceeds go directly toward supporting area non-profits, proving once again that the park's legendary namesake is always looking out for her neighbors. Between the massive savings for hardworking students and the deep commitment to regional charity, Dolly Parton is giving families the ultimate excuse to pack up the swimsuits, grab those end-of-year report cards and head straight for the Great Smoky Mountains to start the summer off right.

Love It or List It Is Gearing Up for Season 21

Real estate agent David Visentin has been with Love It or List It since Season 1 way back in 2008, and he's still here for Season 21. On the reality show, Visentin takes homeowners to see potential new homes, hoping they'll choose to "list" their current property and make an offer on a new pad.

Meanwhile, each episode will see designer and house flipper Page Turner competing with Visentin, as she renovates each home in hopes that the homeowner will choose to "love" their abode and stay there. Turner joined the show last year for Season 20, following designer Hilary Farr's departure after 19 seasons.

“I've given it so many years of my life,” Farr told People when she announced her retirement from the show in 2023. “It's got me through hard times. It's got the audiences through hard times. It has evolved into a mainstay of people's lives and it's been incredibly gratifying. But now it's time for me to move on and meet new challenges.”

The Season Premiere of Love It or List It Focuses on a Family of Five

In Season 21's premiere episode, Visentin and Turner will meet a family of five living in a home with three bedrooms and one bathroom. Per HGTV, the sole woman in the family "is stretched for space and patience" and ready to move out, while her husband thinks a renovation will be enough to improve their lifestyle.

Turner will be tasked with flipping the family's house into somewhere everyone has enough space to live comfortably. As she gets busy with her renovations, Visentin will take the family to see other available homes in the area.

The new season of Love It or List It will debut on HGTV on Tuesday, June 23, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. The episode will stream on HBO Max the following day, Wednesday, June 24.

Season 21 will contain 12 episodes, with a new episode airing on HGTV and HBO Max each week.

These Are the Kind of Shorts That Make You Want to Get Up Earlier

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:55am

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

There’s something about summer that makes you want to simplify everything. You start reaching for lighter meals, easier routines and clothes that don’t feel like a chore to wear the second you step outside. Once the temperatures climb, heavy fabrics and stiff fits immediately become unbearable, especially if your day includes workouts, errands, long drives or honestly just existing in the heat for more than five minutes.

That’s why this time of year always turns into a search for pieces that can actually keep up. I’m talking about the kind of gear you can throw on at 6 a.m. for a walk, wear through an afternoon coffee run and still feel comfortable lounging in later that night. The best summer essentials aren’t flashy. They’re dependable. Breathable. Easy. And once you find a good pair of shorts that checks every box, they instantly become the pair you keep reaching for without even thinking about it.

4AM. SHORTS 6", $74 At Municipal 4AM. SHORTS 6"

Minicipal

Shop It!

That’s exactly the vibe behind the 4AM. SHORTS 6" from MUNICIPAL. At $74, these performance shorts feel designed for people who are constantly moving throughout the day but still want something clean and elevated enough to wear beyond the gym. The overall design leans athletic without screaming “gym clothes,” which honestly makes them way more versatile.

The first thing that stands out is the lightweight stretch fabric blend made from 95% polyester and 5% spandex. That combination gives the shorts flexibility without feeling overly thin or flimsy. Some athletic shorts can feel cheap or too technical looking, but these seem to hit that middle ground where they still look polished enough for everyday wear. The 6-inch inseam also feels like the sweet spot right now. It’s modern, comfortable and gives enough room for mobility without feeling too short or oversized.

Another detail I immediately appreciated was the side “V” notch construction. If you’re someone who walks a lot, trains, stretches or just hates feeling restricted in shorts, that extra mobility matters more than people realize. Small design choices like that are usually what separate decent activewear from the stuff you end up living in all season.

Related: This Lightweight Performance Layer Might Be the Most Underrated Running Essential Right Now

The elastic waistband with the pass through drawcord also keeps things secure without looking bulky. And as someone who’s constantly carrying keys, cards or a phone while trying to avoid stuffing pockets to the point they sag, the concealed zip pocket feels incredibly practical. The stay down zipper detail is one of those underrated features you don’t think about until you’re tired of pockets constantly opening while moving around.

I also like that the dual mesh lined hand pockets add airflow without sacrificing functionality. During summer, ventilation becomes everything, especially on hotter days when regular shorts start feeling heavy halfway through the afternoon.

What really makes these stand out though is how they fit into the current shift toward elevated performance basics. People want clothing that can multitask. We’re all leaning into pieces that work for workouts, travel, errands and casual everyday life without needing a complete outfit change. And honestly, these shorts feel built exactly for that kind of lifestyle.

Whether you’re heading to an early morning workout, grabbing coffee, traveling or just trying to survive another brutally hot summer day comfortably, these feel like the type of shorts that quietly become part of your weekly rotation almost immediately.

This Savory New $5 Sam’s Club Snack Puts the Dip in the Chip

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:42am

With the holiday weekend ahead and summer on the horizon, it's officially the time of year when chips and dip start showing up at just about every gathering. And Sam's Club has a new snack that basically combines the two into one crunchy bite.

The Member's Mark Guacamole-Flavored Tortilla Chips deliver the creamy, savory flavor of fresh guacamole right on the chip itself. Instead of reaching for a separate dip, every chip is already coated edge-to-edge with bold avocado seasoning that delivers rich, tangy flavor with a little kick.

You can see them in store in this May 16 TikTok from @samsclubexperts:

Made with corn and avocado oil, the chips have a sturdy crunch that works especially well for summer entertaining. They're strong enough for salsa, queso, or layered party dips, but flavorful enough to eat straight from the bag while standing around the kitchen island or hanging out by the pool.

You can see why shoppers are already getting excited about them. The chips currently hold a 4.2-star rating on Sam's Club's website with nearly 200 reviews.

"These chips are great, and I'm not even a fan of guacamole!" one shopper wrote. "They have a good crunch. The flavor is robust and has a spice to it. It is excellent with salsa and queso dip."

Related: A Fresh Bakery Find at Sam’s Club Is a Summer Dessert Dream

Another reviewer shared, "These snacks have a very pleasant flavor; the blend feels unique, yet quite enjoyable. Their crunchiness is excellent. I absolutely loved this flavor. The size is perfect for a party or a gathering with friends."

One thing that makes these especially appealing this time of year is their versatility beyond basic snacking. The guacamole flavor works naturally with nachos piled high with meat and cheese, taco bowls, burgers, grilled chicken, and cookout spreads.

They're flavorful enough to hold their own at backyard parties while still feeling a little more interesting than a standard tortilla chip. And since they're gluten-free, they're also an easy, crowd-friendly option to keep on hand for long holiday weekends and casual summer gatherings.

At $4.98 for an 18-ounce party-size bag, this might end up being one of the easiest Memorial Day weekend snacks to throw into the cart.

10-Year-Old Romantasy Novel That Is the Fifth in Its Series Was Among the Most Banned Books of 2025

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:40am

Despite being the fifth book in the series, Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas became one of the most banned books in 2025.

The American Library Association (ALA) shared the list of the most challenged books from 2025, and Empire of Storms, the fifth book in the Throne of Glass series, made it to the No. 4 spot. There were 24 challenges in total, and the majority of them were from schools.

The New York Times bestselling series had long built up the war, with Aelin Galathynius having to make a choice. Would she sacrifice her love, or would she allow Erilea to break apart in the war? Of course, readers were immediately invested in this 10-year-old novel as soon as it was released after reading the first four books in series.

Yet, Empire of Storms was quickly banned in many schools around the country, and to be honest, it makes sense. There is a lot of sexually explicit content in this fifth book, and that’s what led to the schools deciding it wasn’t appropriate for students.

However, it was also banned in libraries and challenged frequently elsewhere, with Utah opting for a total ban in libraries, which the ALA was against. It wasn’t the only one of Maas’ books banned, with all five A Court of Thorns and Roses novels also banned.

The Throne of Glass series was something Maas had been working on since she was 16, and while she did state that the first draft “sucked,” in a 2019 interview, she also shared, “It was a story that I loved and I couldn’t get these characters out of my mind.”

In fact, one of the explicit scenes in the fifth installment was one of her favorites, as she went on to share, “Aelin and Rowan finally doing it on the beach, turning the sand to glass like yas!”

While speaking with Goodreads, Maas also looked back at her characters and any of the lessons that she has taken from them. It is Aelin that she’s looked at most frequently, sharing, “I don't know about learning from their mistakes, but I have definitely used Aelin's ‘I will not be afraid’ line a few times—and actually felt better/calmed by it!”

In the end, the decision to ban and challenge her books hasn’t changed anything that Maas has chosen to write. There are two more ACOTAR books to come, making it clear that she will continue to create content that makes her (and her readers) happy.

Infamous Las Vegas Restaurant Shuts Down, Owner Blames 'Corporate Greed' for 'Loss of Swagger'

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:39am

The original Las Vegas home of the octuple-bypass burger, a 20,000-calorie sandwich in name only, is history. Owner Jon Basso has permanently closed the doors of the legendary Heart Attack Grill on the corner of Las Vegas Boulevard and Fremont Street.

But Basso did not pack up quietly. He chose to burn the bridge on his way out of town.

In a scorched earth exit statement posted to the restaurant's website, Basso went directly after the casino conglomerates dominating the modern tourist corridor.

“The Heart Attack Grill will not be renewing its long term lease. This decision stems from the reality that major casinos have intentionally priced the average person out of the quintessential American experience of affordable indulgence. The soul of Las Vegas has been replaced by corporate greed.” Basso made it clear that the changing focus of the city no longer aligns with his brand.

“Our core value, “eat big and laugh loud,” no longer fits a city peddling forty-dollar “artisanal avocado toast.” The honest, heavy-duty calories that built our reputation are now considered gauche by a city that has excluded the middle class and lost its swagger in the process.”

Before walking away, Basso leaned into the public health controversy that followed his restaurant for over a decade. “We’re proud of our 21 year impact on America’s waistline. The obesity rate has risen from 30% in 2005 to nearly 45% today, and we pat ourselves on the back for leading the charge! For those loyal to HAG, do not despair. This is not the end of the world’s most controversial restaurant; it is merely the beginning of a new chapter.”

One fan wrote: “Still can't believe you guys will be gone. Can you tell me how long are you still going to be open for business? And what's the plan, are you gonna open somewhere else? Please! Las Vegas will never be the same again without HAG... So much fun and the burgers are so fkn good!!! And @nurserikkiofficial rocks! I can't believe this is happening.”

Another commentator added: “I cannot believe you will be gone but tell us you will open for business? In other city”

Basso maintains that the brand is looking for a new spot to plant its flag outside of the current tourist ecosystem. "We are seeking new opportunities to continue our high-calorie mission. We look forward to finding new communities that still appreciate a Bypass Burger and the freedom to feast without apology.”

“I’m certainly not trying to knock Las Vegas as a community,” Basso later told the San Francisco Gate. “I am only telling the honest truth about the tourist sector. It has become as shortsighted of a business model as I can possibly conceive of.”

New Puzzle Book Based on Viral New York Times Game Is Coming to Barnes & Noble

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:38am

The wildly popular New York Times Games phenomenon Connections is officially heading to bookstores.

Barnes & Noble has announced that "Connections: Find the Common Threads in 100+ Puzzles of Wit and Wordplay" (B&N Exclusive Edition) will arrive Oct. 27, giving fans of the viral daily game a brand-new way to play away from their phones.

The Barnes & Noble exclusive edition will feature sprayed edges and a bonus foldout puzzle, along with more than 100 original Connections puzzles curated by editor Wyna Liu.

For anyone unfamiliar with the game, Connections challenges players to sort 16 words into four linked categories. Some connections are obvious, while others are intentionally sneaky, built around wordplay, double meanings and misdirection. The game launched through New York Times Games in 2023 and quickly became one of the platform’s biggest hits.

The New York Times Games app itself has exploded in popularity over the past several years. What began decades ago with the newspaper’s famous crossword puzzle has evolved into a massive digital gaming platform featuring Wordle, Spelling Bee, Strands, Sudoku and more. According to official figures shared by The Verge, New York Times Games titles were played more than 11 billion times in 2024 alone, with Connections accounting for roughly 3.3 billion completed games.

The game’s rise has also helped transform New York Times Games into one of the company’s biggest subscription drivers. Internal staffers have even joked that the company is now “a gaming company that also happens to offer news.”

The upcoming book promises “never-before-seen Connections with Wyna Liu’s signature twists,” along with puzzles ranging from beginner-friendly warmups to more difficult brainteasers designed to trick even longtime players.

According to the official description, the collection will also include behind-the-scenes commentary on the categories and puzzle construction process, plus variations on the game’s traditional 4x4 grid format.

Barnes & Noble described the release as “your next obsession,” calling it a must-have for puzzle lovers, competitive friend groups and anyone already hooked on the daily game online.

The book is currently scheduled for release on Oct. 27, just in time for holiday shopping season and cozy weather puzzle marathons.

Rare Photo of Mary Jo Buttafuoco, Shot by Amy Fisher 34 Years Ago, Released by Daughter on Anniversary

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:38am

Mary Jo Buttafuoco, who was shot in the face by Amy Fisher, the 17-year-old woman who was having an affair with her husband, Joey Buttafuoco, is smiling on the 34th anniversary of the horrific shooting.

In a touching Instagram post by her daughter, Jessie Buttafuoco, Mary Jo was honored for her strength and resilience as she sat on the beach under an umbrella.

"Today marks 34 years of survival.
What could have been remembered solely as the day my mom was almost murdered has become something far more powerful in our family: it’s become Survival Day. I have watched my mother endure things that would break most people- surviving a bullet to the head, public humiliation on a national stage, decades of media exploitation, MY DAD, addiction, PTSD, mental health struggles, watching her kids suffer, and years of having her pain turned into entertainment for others. And yet somehow, through all of it, she kept going," Jessie captioned the photo, in which she smiles alongside her mother.

Reclaiming Her Story

Jessie continued, stating that this last year has served as a period for Mary Jo to reclaim her story that has become tabloid fodder over the last several decades. The Long Island crime captivated the nation, giving Fisher the nickname "Long Island Lolita." But behind the headlines, Mary Jo was a woman suffering. Ultimately, she suffered facial paralysis and hearing loss, and the bullet is still lodged in her head. Despite her struggle, she now exudes a message of hope.

"This past year, I watched her do something I never thought I’d fully see: reclaim her own narrative through her lifetime movie, I Am Mary Jo Buttafuoco. For the first time in a long time, her voice stood at the center of her own story. Not the tabloids… Not the headlines… Her," said Jessie. "Back then, No one protected my mother. No one advocated for her humanity. No one created safeguards for her when her life was turned into a spectacle."

To watch the trailer for I Am Mary Jo Buttafuoco, check it out below:

Jessie's Amazing Career Trajectory

Because she grew up "witnessing firsthand what happens when trauma becomes public consumption," Jessie was inspired to dedicate her career to studying crime and trauma. She's now working toward a PhD.

"My PhD research focuses on the psychological impact of true crime media and unethical media practices on victims, survivors, and co-victims of crime. Through my advocacy and research, I hope to help create legislation and ethical reform that protects victims, survivors, and co-victims of crime from further exploitation and sensationalism in the media," wrote Jessie.

She concluded her post by honoring her mom's resilience.

"Today, we don’t celebrate what was done to my mom. We celebrate the fact that it did not destroy her. That it did not destroy us. Survival Day is a reminder that even after unimaginable pain… healing, resilience, and reclaiming your voice are possible. Happy Survival Day, Mom."

’90s Rocker Makes Personal Admission About Split From Music Icon After 17 Years

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:30am

John 5 is opening up about the major decision he made involving Rob Zombie following their almost two decades of working together.

The 55-year-old rocker, whose real name is John William Lowery, was regarded as the most influential musician in Zombie’s solo career history, serving as his lead guitarist, primary co-writer and creative partner.

For 17 years, the duo teamed up for several studio albums, including Educated Horses in 2006, to the release of the 2021 album The Lunar Injection Kool Aid Eclipse Conspiracy.

In 2022, he announced his exit from Zombie’s band to join the legendary rock group Mötley Crüe as a replacement for guitarist Mick Mars following his retirement.

Four years since his split from the music icon’s band, John 5 is sharing a deeply personal reflection regarding his bold decision.

During his appearance on the Thinking About Guitar podcast, the guitarist spoke about taking new opportunities and growing in his career.

“Life is short and I want to experience as much as possible,” he shared as transcribed by Loudwire, adding, “I want to see things. I want to experience things. I'm still so hungry to do things.”

John 5 also looked back on the good times and the valuable lessons he gained while working with Zombie.

The guitarist emphasized that there was no bad blood between them, but his decision was simply about embracing a new experience he could not pass up.

“I was never a band member with anything,” John 5 mentioned. “I've never been a band member with [Marilyn] Manson or Rob or Motley Crue or anything. So me and Rob had such a special bond and we work so well together. We write so well together. Those shows... We had so much fun. We never had a negative word between us. I mean, he's just, he's the greatest. But I just wanted to experience this. I wanted to experience it. And I know that might be selfish, but I just wanted to – I didn't want to have this pass by.”

After John 5’s departure, Zombie continued his music career and was reunited with his former guitarist, Mike Riggs.

He also released his eighth studio album, The Great Satan, in February.

The Brilliant Summer Travel Hack for Visiting Europe's Most Expensive Fjords on a Budget

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:10am

If you’ve been tracking the "coolcation" phenomenon that has been dominating travel feeds recently, you already know that Northern Europe has officially replaced scorching Mediterranean beaches as summer's most desirable vacation spot. Trading crowded, 100-degree streets for the crisp, breathable air of Norway sounds like an absolute dream—until you actually start looking at the reality of Scandinavian prices.

But a major summer fleet deployment from MSC Cruises offers a refreshing alternative to both pricey Scandinavian hotels and expensive luxury cruise lines. By using a sleek mega-ship like MSC Euribia as your all-inclusive basecamp, you can sail directly into the heart of Norway’s most famous fjords on a budget—bypassing the high costs of regional transit and premium voyages without sacrificing a single upscale amenity.

For a 7-night peak summer sailing out of Kiel or Copenhagen, a balcony cabin starts around $1,394 per person. Because that baseline fare includes your accommodations, main dining meals, and transit, it completely removes the typical financial sting of a Scandinavian vacation.

View this post on Instagram The Ultimate Fjord-Hopping Itinerary

Marking the ship's official debut in Northern Europe, this newly activated route drops you right into the heart of the region's most celebrated natural wonders:

  • The Heritage Fjords (Hellesylt & Geiranger): You'll glide past the UNESCO-listed vertical rock walls and towering, cascading waterfalls of Geirangerfjord, dropping anchor right in the heart of some of Norway's most celebrated natural wonders.
  • Ålesund: A striking coastal town renowned for its unique Art Nouveau architecture, surrounded by dramatic peaks and ocean views.
  • Flåm Village: A tiny, isolated village nestled at the inner end of the Aurlandsfjord, offering unparalleled access to pristine mountain scenery.

Onboard Amenities and Upgrades

Because those baseline cruise fares keep your core travel costs so low, you can easily reallocate your savings into a few upscale onboard splurges like specialty dining at the Kaito Sushi and Robatayaki bar, premium cuts at Le Grill, or French-brasserie style dining, without blowing your budget. You can also invest in a refreshing thermal session at the Balinese-inspired MSC Aurea Spa, which features an exclusive sauna, steam bath and whirlpool.

The same thinking applies to your time on shore. You can skip the pricey pre-packaged tours and wander the towns independently, or invest extra in unforgettable regional excursions, like a guided trek to the waterfalls of Geiranger or a panoramic ride on the world-famous Flåm Railway.

Despite being a grand, feature-packed ship, Euribia is designed to feel surprisingly intimate, mapping out spacious public lounges and quiet viewing decks perfect for watching the mountain scenery unfold. The centerpiece of the ship is the Galleria Euribia, an indoor promenade featuring the longest spectacular LED sky dome at sea, which hosts social gatherings, shopping boutiques like Time Vallée and live pop-up entertainment.

For evenings, the entertainment ecosystem comes alive with big-production theatrical sets at the Delphi Theatre and live big-band sets inside the Carousel Lounge. For days at sea, the ship plays host to five outstanding swimming pools capable of accommodating over 1,000 guests, alongside the Ocean Cay AquaPark, which stands out as one of the most intricate water parks at sea.

Stepping Up to Five-Star Luxury

For travelers who want to skip the standard experience entirely and step up to a five-star environment, you can upgrade your accommodations to the premium MSC Yacht Club. On MSC Euribia, booking one of these sought-after suites averages around $3,722 per person for the northern routes—a price tag that represents a splurge, but still comes in significantly lower than the peak-summer rates of ultra-luxury cruise lines operating in the same waters. Choosing this tier shifts you to the front of the ship, where guests have access to a private pool deck, a separate panoramic lounge and 24-hour butler and concierge services.

Whether you opt for the value of a classic balcony cabin or the upscale luxury of a butler-serviced suite, utilizing the fleet as your floating hotel delivers a massive savings for some of the most beautiful and typically pricey sailings in the world. If you want to experience the breathtaking magic of the Norwegian fjords before the summer booking window closes, swapping the astronomical land costs for an effortless, design-forward cruise is officially the smartest budget travel hack of the year.

What Kind of Wild Cat Are You, Based on Your Birth Date

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:06am

Which wild cat species matches you? You might be initially drawn to the fierce lion pride patrolling the grasslands and savannahs in search of food. If the lion doesn’t catch your eye, then the mysterious and alluring tiger waiting in the jungle will. You could also be drawn to a big cat that doesn’t get nearly enough love, like the shy snow leopard or the independent puma. Since there are many wild cat felines to choose from, you should consult your birth date to find that wild cat that mirrors your soul.

Numerologists believe that there’s a wild cat that matches your birth date. Birth dates are grouped by the single-digit number they reduce to, which is any number between 1 and 9. The numerological energies and properties of the single-digit number match with a specific wild cat’s spiritual energy. Read on to discover your wild cat for birth dates 1 to 31.

Your Wild Cat, Based on Your Birth Date

Check if your date of birth is listed. Disregard birth months.

Born on the 1st, 10th, 19th, and 28th: Puma

Independent spirits are born on the 1st, 10th, 19th, and 28th. These birth dates embody the numerological energy of 1, which is known for being fierce, courageous, and brave. Although most wild cats are known for their ferocity, the puma will stand out. People born on these dates will see their strength and power mirrored in the puma. Pumas represent their ability to fearlessly go the distance. Nothing can stand in these birth dates’ way as long as they invoke and align with the spiritual energy of the puma.

As long as people born on these dates work with the cheetah’s spiritual energy, they will always have sharp mental acuity and perceptiveness.

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:04am

For years, Popeyes has proudly been serving a Cajun-infused blend of crispy fried chicken and other assorted menu items, formally transporting diners to the mouthwatering eateries of Louisiana with each and every bite.

Now, the iconic fast food chain is delivering what's guaranteed to be their most ambitious dish yet, as seen through their brand-new partnership with The Surf Lodge.

According to a recent press release from the beloved restaurant, Popeyes will be teaming up with Montauk's legendary music venue to produce The Surf Lodge's best-selling Chicken Tender Tower for 2026's summer season.

"This first-of-its-kind partnership pairs Popeyes legendary Louisiana flavor with the rhythm of The Surf Lodge's world-renowned Summer Concert Series, placing the brand at the heart of the East Coast's premier music venue where the world's top performers and most vibrant summer social scene collide," the announcement specifically said.

To that end, Popeyes will be handing in The Surf Lodge's gargantuan Tender Tower, a multi-tiered platter featuring the chain's hand-battered crispy Louisiana Chicken Tenders served with a flight of Popeyes' eclectic dipping sauces.

"We're excited to bring the bold flavor and energy of Popeyes to one of the most iconic destinations in music and culture," said Matt Rubin, Chief Marketing Officer of Popeyes U.S. and Canada. "Our exclusive partnership with The Surf Lodge and the debut of the Chicken Tender Tower allows us to show up for guests in a fresh, unexpected way, where great music, culture, and craveable food come together to create a uniquely elevated Popeyes experience."

The dish itself costs an equally impressive $150, but for fans of Popeyes' chicken, it's an endlessly delicious, conveniently shareable platter worth having for any concert.

"We are always trying to create magic for our community," said Jayma Cardoso, Founder and Creative Director of The Surf Lodge. "It's an iconic collaboration that brings our signature Chicken Tender Towers together with the unmistakable taste of Popeyes. It feels very special and just takes it to another level. It's fun, unexpected, unforgettable, and it really reflects what makes The Surf Lodge so unique. This is the kind of partnership that just makes sense and I'm excited about this one."

Rob Cesternino Reveals He Was in the Running for 'Survivor 50' — and That He Would Have Lost (Exclusive)

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:00am

For many Survivor fans, Rob Cesternino is synonymous with the show. It's a surprising fact on paper, given the fact that the two-time castaway has not been on the island in over 20 years. But, since then, he's spent the better part of 16 years building a media empire through the award-winning "Rob Has a Podcast." Dedicated to providing a wide variety of weekly shows on popular reality series like Survivor, Big Brother and The Traitors, his work ethic and talent has showcased how he truly is, to some, a hero, healer and hustler, and certainly a game-changer when it comes to the world of coverage.

In May, Cesternino expanded his sphere of influence from screen to page. The Tribe and I Have Spoken: The Definitive (Unofficial) Lore and Legacy from the Game's Smartest Surviving Loser, recently named a New York Times bestseller, is a tome dedicated to the iconic CBS reality series after 50 seasons and more than 25 years on the air. Written alongside Alex Kavtuskiy (Jury Duty), it's equal parts history book, advice column, and memoir, covering not only the game's biggest players and moments, but guidance for how future castaways can make the most of their time in Fiji. Cesternino then concludes by talking about his own relationship with the show, from falling in love the first second he watched the superstar first season to playing on The Amazon and All-Stars to becoming part of the media landscape upon developing Rob Has a Podcast.

🔥Don’t miss our weekly Survivor newsletter! Sign up to get Mike Bloom’s exclusive interviews with the players and the latest news about the show right to your inbox.🔥

"It was really hard to come up with how the book is going to be told," he tells Parade in an exclusive interview. "Because I was worried that the book would not be able to have any of the parts of me in the book. Because for people who don't know who I am, that there is a market of people who care about Survivor but basically don't know who I am. So there was a thought that, 'Could this be a turnoff to have too much of me in the book about Survivor?'"

"I think that there are so many different places where the history of Survivor and the history of my life intersected," he continues. "And Survivor and I both got together at a period where I feel like there was some mutual interest. And then at the same time, we've also been living these parallel lives where both of us have evolved and changed in some huge ways over the years and have become different versions of ourselves. But I think that there's still so much overlap between where I've ended up and where Survivor has ended up."

And, as Cesternino goes into length about in The Tribe and I Have Spoken, at one point, those paths were fated to cross again. It's been well-publicized that Jeff Probst and the Survivor casting team cast a wide net when it came to creating a list of possible contestants for Season 50. Cesternino, who has maintained a good relationship with the show and even conducts interviews with cast members after they're eliminated, was a part of the initial list, and even made it several rounds into the casting process. He ultimately was not chosen to make the final group of 24 players.

So the question is, having seen the vast majority of Survivor 50 play out (coming to an epic conclusion with a three-hour finale and live reunion on May 20), how does he think he would have done if he had ended up back on the beach for his third season? Cesternino admits his opinions have changed as the season and his subsequent coverage of it have gone along.

Related: Meet the Full Cast of Survivor 50

"So when they announced the cast, I really thought that I was the person who would have been perfect to play," he explains. "I think I would have been the 'Song of Ice and Fire.' I am the person who knows all of the players from the 'old era,' but I also know the players from the 'new era.' I had all these relationships. I don't know if there was one other person who has at least had a conversation with all of the other 23 players that would have been on the season."

"But I think that that same strength would have also been a weakness," he admits. "I think that the types of players who probably are in my archetype of the Christians and Ricks and Emilys, I think I would have been lumped in with that. I think I would have been part of the 'middle people.' I think I would have been somebody that they would have been very wary of. And so ultimately, even though I didn't make it to Survivor 50, I don't see Survivor 50 as being a season that I would have come in and dominated."

Rob Cesternino performs a Rob Has a Podcast live show to a crowd of 1500 people in New York City

Rob Cesternino/Instagram

Regardless of how he would have done, there are a couple of key people from the cast of two dozen that Cesternino would have loved playing alongside.

"I've spent so much time with Christian [Hubicki] in real life that I think he would definitely be up there. But I love Q [Burdette]. I'm such a Q apologist. I just think that being around Q would have just been so fun, and I look forward to him coming back to Survivor many more times."

Related: Rob Cesternino Reveals the ‘Traitors’ Player Who Gave Him His ‘Mastermind’ Reputation (Exclusive)

Despite not getting to play Survivor again, Cesternino would say — to make a deep-cut "Probstism" — his life is fine. He would go on to make his reality TV return in 2026, competing on The Traitors, where he was the second person murdered (making him develop a lifelong avoidance of conga lines). He continues to cover Survivor through Rob Has a Podcast, which has only continued to expand through multiple live shows throughout the spring. And, of course, he's now a New York Times bestselling author. Indeed, Cesternino credits his success to finding opportunity in disappointment, a mindset that dates back to Survivor: The Amazon, where he was taken out just short of the Final Two, where he assuredly would have won the jury vote.

"This is the beauty of 20-plus years of hindsight," he reasons. "I think that my life would have been worse had I won Survivor at that time. I have seen over the years, as you have, so many young people get that kind of life-changing money, and it doesn't necessarily change their life for the positive. But by losing Survivor, I was cast in this other direction of, 'What am I going to do after Survivor? Where is my life going? And I really was forced to work and to learn and to try to improve myself. And because of that, I ended up in this whole other direction, where I ended up on this path that I'm on now.

"And I wouldn't change anything if I could, because it got me to where I am now. And all the lessons that I learned along the way have gotten me to this place where I love what I get to do. I couldn't imagine being more fulfilled. And so I look at it almost like a blessing now that the way that it worked out. And I do believe that sometimes we don't understand the setbacks that we have now. And this is something that I had to be with The Traitors, like, 'I don't understand why this happened to me. But hopefully one day, I will understand why it worked out this way.'"

Regardless of what is to come with Cesternino and Rob Has a Podcast at large, his work and legacy, like the sound of a piercing bell, are bound to ring in our ears for years to come.

Barilla Debuts New Pasta Shape That’s Specifically Designed to Hold More Sauce

Wed, 05/20/2026 - 8:00am

There’s big news in the pasta world: Barilla is debuting a new shape that’s designed specifically to hold more sauce. The popular Italian brand is launching the new radiatori shape, which it describes as “a modern, sauce-gripping cut designed to hold more sauce and deliver more flavor in every bite.”

The new shape joins Barilla’s premium bronze-cut pasta line, Al Bronzo by Barilla, which is now certified organic. What makes the radiatori shape unique is its five-winged, layered shape, which is designed to hold onto more sauce from every angle. In addition to the radiatori shape, the Al Bronzo line also includes popular shapes like bucatini, spaghetti, mezzi rigatoni, penne rigate, fusilloni, and orecchiette.

“As more consumers explore new pasta shapes and experiment beyond traditional cuts, the new Radiatori offers a way to bring restaurant-style creativity into everyday cooking,” Barilla told Parade in a statement.

The brand is also partnering with popular TikTok star-turned-cookbook author Meredith Hayden (you may know her as Wishbone Kitchen) to celebrate the launch. “Texture is one of the most overlooked parts of a great pasta dish. When the pasta really grips the sauce, you get a more balanced, flavorful bite every time—and that’s what makes Al Bronzo so special,” said Hayden. “You don’t need more ingredients to make a pasta dish feel special—you just need the right pasta. When it holds onto the sauce the way Al Bronzo does, everything tastes more complete.”

Organic Al Bronzo by Barilla will be available at Kroger stores starting in June before a larger rollout to select retailers nationwide this summer. Last month, Barilla turned heads with another new pasta shape, a special-edition F1 racing wheel-shaped pasta inspired by Formula 1 car wheels. The limited-time offering features a ridged circular shape that provides a textured bite that can hold onto sauce with ease.
