The Common Kitchen Mistake an Oncologist Says Can Increase Exposure To Cancer-Causing Chemicals

Cancer is often thought of as an ill fate that’s left entirely to chance, completely out of our control. It’s true that no one can control their health entirely. You can shun sugar, work out every day and still get cancer. But it’s also true that there is a lot we can do to significantly reduce our risk.

According to a new global analysis by the World Health Organization, four in 10 cancer cases can be prevented. The number one way to significantly reduce your risk, according to the report? Avoiding tobacco use. Smoking and vaping are responsible for a whopping 15% of new cancer cases.

Other ways to reduce your risk of cancer are maintaining a balanced, nutrient-rich diet, exercising regularly, wearing sunscreen when exposed to sunlight and minimizing alcohol consumption.

While what you eat directly impacts your cancer risk, so does how you cook it. There’s one popular cooking method in particular that increases exposure to cancer-causing chemicals. Want to keep yourself safe? Here’s what to keep in mind when cooking, according to cancer experts.

The Kitchen Mistake To Avoid, According to an Oncologist

While it may seem resourceful to reuse cooking oil in the kitchen, you could be unnecessarily exposing yourself to cancer-causing chemicals. Dr. Wasif Saif, MD, MBBS, a medical oncologist at Karmanos Cancer Institute, explains that when cooking oils are heated at a high temperature for frying, and particularly when they are repeatedly heated, they undergo chemical degradation, which generates various potentially harmful compounds.

“Among these degradation products, notably lipid peroxides, aldehydes and certain aromatic compounds, have been associated with carcinogenic or mutagenic activity in experimental studies,” he says.

Amanda Celone, RDN, an oncology dietitian at Yale Cancer Center, agrees that reusing cooking oils is dangerous. "Each time oil is heated to a high temperature, the heat can degrade the oil, causing oxidized or altered lipid structures. These products, in theory, could promote oxidative stress and immune responses that may increase cancer risk," she says.

On top of that, Dr. Saif explains that reheating allows burnt food particles to accumulate in the oil, which can further contribute to the formation of the dangerous compounds, sharing, “These compounds may be ingested with fried food or inhaled through cooking fumes. Chronic exposure to oxidized lipids and related chemicals has been linked to oxidative stress, inflammation and cellular DNA damage, which are important biological processes associated with carcinogenesis over long periods."

Both experts emphasize that anytime you eat fried food, you are exposing yourself to these dangerous chemicals, which can increase your risk of cancer. "Frequent intake of fried food increases cancer risk, such as prostate, gastric and colon cancers. Additionally, there is a small amount of evidence from mice studies demonstrating that reused cooking oil can increase the risk of lung metastases for mice who already have breast cancer," Celone says.

The experts explain that this dangerous chemical change can happen when reusing any type of cooking oil, but oils high in unsaturated fats (like soybean oil, corn oil or sunflower oil) are especially prone to this because they oxidize more readily, which can lead to the formation of the dangerous compounds more quickly.

“On the other hand, oils rich in monounsaturated or saturated fatty acids, such as extra-virgin olive oil, avocado oil, peanut oil and canola oil, are generally more resistant to oxidative damage and maintain their structural integrity longer under heat,” Dr. Saif adds.

A Safer Way To Cook

To avoid being exposed to these cancer-causing chemical compounds, don’t reuse oil when you’re cooking. Since oils high in saturated fats, like extra-virgin olive oil and avocado oil, degrade more slowly, Dr. Saif recommends making them your go-tos. 

Besides degrading more slowly, both experts say that these oils are also high in antioxidants, which protect the body from inflammation. “Chronic inflammation and oxidative damage are recognized contributors to the development of several chronic diseases, including cancer,” Dr. Saif says. 

Here’s what else is great about oils high in saturated fats, like extra-virgin olive oil: Both experts point out that it enhances the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins found in the foods you’re pairing with the oil. That’s benefits on top of benefits! 

Dr. Saif says that flaxseed oil and walnut oil are two other oils that support health due to their high amount of omega-3 fatty acids, but he says that these oils have a low smoke point and should only be used as finishing oils, not for cooking. 

In general, Dr. Saif says to keep in mind these five rules when cooking with oil:

  • Avoid reusing frying oil multiple times.
  • Do not heat oil past its smoke point.
  • Store oils away from light and heat to prevent oxidation.
  • Stick to baking, steaming or sautéing rather than deep frying.
  • For reducing potential cancer risk through diet, oils highest in monounsaturated fats and antioxidants—such as extra-virgin olive oil and avocado oil—are generally the best choices, especially when used without repeated high-temperature reheating.

With these guidelines in place, you don’t have to worry about exposing yourself to cancer-causing chemicals in the kitchen. That way, you can focus on something more exciting: your delicious meal.

Now fans will get the chance to gaze at the real McCoy in Dynasty: The Murdochs. The documentary series takes a look at the series of events around Rupert changing the terms of his succession to giant assets like News Corp and the Fox Corporation, and the fallout among his four children that culminated in a family trip to court.

Age of Attraction Theresa Demaria and John Merrill in 'Age of Attraction'

Whenever a new celebrity relationship emerges, there always seems to be one common point of discussion: The age gap. Whether it's the term "robbing the cradle" or the informal "half your age plus seven" rule, there's constantly been a point of contention as to whether someone is too old or too young for your significant other. Age of Attraction, Netflix's newest romance reality series, aims to put the credo "age is just a number" to the test.

Hosted by former Bachelor Nick Viall and his partner Natalie Joy (who have an 18-year age gap themselves), the show puts 20 men and 20 women on dates, where they're forbidden to know anything about the age of their suitor. Fans of Love is Blind would find something strikingly similar in the format, as the couples eventually exchange "Promise Rings," reveal their age to one another, then move in together to truly see if their new relationship can work. The first five of eight episodes released on March 11, with the rest of the season coming in two batches on March 18 and 25.

One Piece Season 2 The cast of 'One Piece'

As much as Netflix is packed with plenty of anime content (though it doesn't hold a candle to services like CrunchyRoll), it took a definitive risk in its live-action adaptation of One Piece in 2023. After all, it's following in the footsteps of the animated series, which to date has aired over 1,100 episodes, becoming one of the most popular and longest-running anime shows in history. But it's not a stretch to say that Netflix's take on Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates has been wildly successful, prompting a second season of the show. All eight episodes of Season 2, subtitled "Into the Grand Line," came out on March 9, featuring guest appearances from Katey Sagal (Married...With Children), Joe Manganiello (True Blood) and Sendhil Ramamurthy (Never Have I Ever). And, with a third season already in production, you have plenty of reason to dig into One Piece like a delicious Devil Fruit.

‘Outlander’ Season 8 Brought Much-Needed Closure to a Book Storyline

Throughout the eighth Outlander book, Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, Roger and Buck MacKenzie found themselves in 1739. It was a storyline used for Outlander Season 7, and the inclusion and subtle changes to the story brought hope that some closure would finally be given.

When readers come across Brianna and Roger again in Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone by Diana Gabaldon, they are without Buck. In fact, to make matters even more confusing, Buck seems to just disappear in the eighth book, and there’s never really been much clarity in the events. Outlander Season 8 has helped to bring some closure to that part of the story.

Roger Tells Jamie About Buck on ‘Outlander’

At the start of Outlander Season 8 Episode 2, Roger catches Jamie up on everything that happened in the past. We don’t need the whole story told to us as we lived it, but there is a small mention of Buck that helps to close out his story — and confirm that Buck won’t be in the rest of the series.

Roger explains that he and Brianna asked Buck to come to the 1770s with them. He decided that he didn’t want to, staying in 1739. What he does there isn’t clear, but now it connects back to why Buck is considered dead in 1778. He simply never makes it back to his own time, and some of that is out of choice.

At least there's no mention of Geillis. In the novels, Buck takes a liking to his own mother, without realizing that she is his mother, and it certainly added an ick factor for many readers.

Buck Doesn’t Disappear in the ‘Outlander’ Books

In the first reading of Written in My Own Heart’s Blood, it can come across as if Buck disappears. Roger describes a blue light when Geillis and Buck are together. However, this scene doesn’t play out in real time. It’s all part of Roger imagining what could happen as Buck goes into Geillis’s house.

After this, Buck isn’t mentioned again, so it’s easy to see why there is so much confusion over the matter. The stories move on, with Roger and Brianna being reunited, and it’s always been something that readers have questioned.

While the show and the books are two separate entities, the mention of Buck on Outlander Season 8 Episode 2 helps to settle the minds of many. It’s a welcome change for those who just needed to know.

Sprite’s New Flavor Is ‘Strong’ and ‘So Good,’ According to Fans

A new Sprite flavor appears to be making its way to stores nationwide, and fans couldn't be more excited.

The new soft drink is joining the brand's relatively new Sprite Chill subline, which was initially released in April 2024 as a limited-edition Cherry-Lime flavor boasting a "cooling" sensation. The variety became so popular among consumers, though, that Coca-Cola apparently had no choice but to bring it back as part of the permanent Sprite lineup in the spring of 2025.

Not only did Sprite Chill earn its rightful spot on shelves as a full and zero-sugar soda last year, but it also got its first flavor spinoff. Unlike the original that started it all, though, the Strawberry Kiwi Sprite Chill remained a limited-time addition. And as we inch closer to April, when Sprite has made a habit of dropping its Chill flavors, a new variety teased earlier this year has finally been spotted at some stores: Sprite Chill Mango Citrus.

Sprite Chill Expands With New Mango Citrus Flavor

Sprite Chill Mango Citrus flavor is reported to feature the classic lemon-lime of the original soda with added mango-citrus notes.

The upcoming variety has yet to be officially announced, but eagle-eyed shoppers have already spotted the item on shelves (and on Instacart)—with some folks already racing to try it.

"Already tried it," one Instagram user wrote. "[It] is so good," they added, later describing the flavor as "sweet and mango."

"Pretty heavy on Mango," another reviewer shared via Reddit, rating the beverage an 8.1 out of 10. "Which if you're buying a Mango flavor, I assume that's a good thing."

A third agreed that it's heavy on the fruit flavor and so good, suggesting the mango scent is even "pretty strong" in a March 11 YouTube video.

"Have to try this one," a third shared on Facebook, while someone else remained unconvinced it wasn't going to taste like the Tropical Sprite (which is supposed to be a blend of strawberry, pineapple and Sprite's iconic lemon-lime flavor, it's not widely available—yet—and is most commonly found in the southeast region of the U.S.).

"DAMN!!" a different social media user cheered. "I'm so ready to try this soda!😮."

Others demanded to get the "strawberry kiwi one back," and we hate to be the ones to say this, but it doesn't look like that's happening (at least not this spring).

"I know what I am going to be getting next!!" one more said of the new variety.

Where Will Sprite Chill Mango Citrus Be Available?

Sprite Chill Mango Citrus has already been spotted by fans at Walmart, where it's to be stocked exclusively, per Sporked. Its exclusivity isn't all that surprising, considering Walmart also exclusively stocked Sprite Chill Strawberry Kiwi.

Walmart shoppers nationwide should have no problem finding the new flavor as we inch into spring, when it's said to become available in 12-packs of 12-ounce cans (for both full and zero sugar) and single 20-ounce bottles (for the regular sugar version only). Prices may vary.

That said, fans are hoping it expands to other retailers—even if that means having to hunt down a Coca-Cola Freestyle machine.

A spokesperson was not immediately available for comment. We will update this story with any relevant information that may be shared.

Popular Grammar Tool Pulls AI Feature After Backlash for Mimicking Stephen King Among Others

As artificial intelligence continues to grow, it also continues to gain backlash from musicians, actors, and authors. Just as multiple authors, including Richard Osman, took a creative way to fight against AI, other authors have had to step up with complaints to lead to an AI tool getting taken down.

Grammarly introduced a new AI tool that was supposed to be fun, but in the world of deepfakes, it’s viewed as dangerous and absurd. This tool sparked backlash, especially due to the use of authors’ voices without their consent, including horror icon Stephen King.

Grammarly Pulls New AI Tool

The Expert Review function was introduced by Grammarly as a way to mimic author voices. According to the BBC, it was supposed to offer writing feedback “inspired by” famous authors and academics. However, Grammarly claims that it “misrepresented” the voices of experts.

Investigative journalist Julia Angwin was one of those who found her voice being used in edits, and she started a class-action lawsuit against Superhuman — the company that runs Grammarly — and Grammarly itself.

To make matters worse, the use of her voice was disingenuous and could harm her reputation, as many of the edits suggested in her voice made writing “worse” and “complex.”

There is also the question of legalities, as authors’ voices are being used without consent. Those words are also being attributed to them without them sharing their real thoughts. People may believe that these authors and academics are giving real feedback, despite it being labeled as an AI tool.

Grammarly immediately pulled the tool with an apology on LinkedIn, and while this was fast, it may not be enough.

The AI Tool May Be Reworked

In an apology on LinkedIn, Superhuman’s chief executive, Shishir Mehrotra, made it clear that the tool was removed due to how it fell short of what was expected. He doesn’t admit that there is a problem in using authors’ voices without their consent, sharing that the information AI had used came from third-party LLMs to create the feedback.

With this in mind, The Expert Review could be put back online after some redesign, as Mehrotra shares that the current lawsuit is “without merit,” and he believes that the took will “benefit both users and experts.”

AI is continually growing, with authors looking for ways to battle against it. Publishing houses are also stepping up, with 13 U.S. publishers recently banding together to take down a popular pirating website that allegedly sells to AI companies.

Wait, What's the Difference Between Scalloped Potatoes and Potatoes au Gratin?

Puh-tay-tow, Pah-tah-tow? When it comes to pronouncing potato, you do you. The versatile carbohydrate is perfect for soups, stews and meals in general. Mash or bake 'em or serve them scalloped or au gratin—indeed, it's hard to go wrong.

Yet, au gratin and scalloped potatoes are sometimes used interchangeably—and are both delicious served alongside a holiday ham—so what's the difference between the two?

"Scalloped potatoes and au gratin are similar in that they are both thinly sliced potatoes that are layered and cooked with cream," explains Mike Dilonno, the chef and owner of Beggars Banquet in New Orleans. "Their appearance is the same because they usually are both baked in casserole dishes and come out bubbly and golden brown."

However, unlike pronunciations of potato, scalloped and au gratin mean different things. What's the difference between scalloped and au gratin potatoes? Chefs cut through the confusion and explain, plus offer their best potato-pairing tips.

Scalloped Potatoes vs. au Gratin Potatoes: What's the Difference?

There are a few subtle distinctions between scalloped and au gratin potatoes. The biggest? "Cheese," dishes Kevin Lee,the chef behind Birdies by Chef Kevin Lee in Oklahoma City. "Au Gratin is ooey-gooey deliciousness and scalloped potatoes are more delicately baked."

The delicate baking also has to do with some other ingredients that are (or aren't) mixed in.

"Scalloped potatoes are made with a flour-butter-milk roux, whereas au gratin potatoes are made with cream, butter and cheese, which are my personal favorite," explains William Muzio, the corporate executive chef with Lessing's Hospitality Group.

That distinction is important if you're hosting a person with gluten sensitivities (or have them yourself).

"Scalloped potatoes usually contain gluten, whereas au gratin potatoes are typically gluten-free because they are held together by cream and cheese," Muzio explains.

Dilonno adds that au gratin potatoes are usually more thinly sliced, though both dishes will feature potatoes cut into rounds.

The origins of the terms are also different.

"My whole life, I thought it was scalloped because the potatoes were sliced in a scallop-shaped way," Lee says. Then, I learned it actually originated from an Old English word, collop, which means sliced. You learn something new every day."

As for au gratin, "Au gratin means 'by grating' in French," Lee says. "For the culinary definition, some people say this refers to the 'grated' cheese used in the dish, but others say the origin is really from the verb 'gratinee,' which means to give a dish a golden brown top."

Consider these nuggets of information part of your dinner-party conversation.

How Do You Make Scalloped Potatoes?

As Muzio explained, scalloped potatoes use a flour-butter-milk mixture. Lee says recipes also often call for heavy cream, and of course salt and pepper. 

To cook scalloped potatoes, you layer thinly sliced potato rounds on top of this creamy mixture and bake until golden brown. Noticeably absent is the cheese, which some scalloped potato recipes may call for, but know that the addition of cheese deviates from the traditional scalloped potato definition. (This occasional cheese addition is also why these two terms are often used interchangeably.)

Muzio and Dilonno suggest serving scalloped potatoes as a side dish to more straightforward proteins.

"Think springtime and lighter flavors—a pan-roasted fish," Muzio says.

How Do You Make au Gratin Potatoes?

Dilonno suggests starting by thinly slicing Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes.

"Layer them in a casserole dish with grated Gruyère, cheddar or another rich cheese with a cream-based sauce," Dilonno says. "Then, bake until potatoes are cooked and a crust forms that’s golden brown. You can also sprinkle with bread crumbs if you want to add an extra crust, although I like them simply prepared."

Dilonno likes to serve potatoes au gratin with something hearty, like duck or red meat.

What’s the Difference Between au Gratin and Gratin Potatoes?

We've got one last "what's-in-a-name" score to settle. Like scalloped and au gratin potatoes, these terms are often used interchangeably. Is it warranted in this case? Once again, home chefs will want to be aware of some differences, and we'll refer back to the translation for "au gratin."

"In cooking, the word 'gratin' refers to a dish with a lightly browned crust of breadcrumbs or melted cheese," Dilonno says. "'Au gratin' means 'by grating' in French or 'with a crust' and usually refers to a casserole covered in browned breadcrumbs and cheese."

If you're confused, allow us to translate. "Gratin" is any dish that's topped with cheese or breadcrumbs mixed with butter, whether there are potatoes under there or not. "Au gratin" is the method of cooking a dish in the manner of a gratin. TL;DR: Everyday cooks can use either term. If you're hanging out with chefs, things might get a little nerdier, but now you know.

For decades, the idea of "living with Disney" meant a week-long hotel stay or a move to their exclusive Golden Oak community in Orlando. But a new chapter has officially begun in Rancho Mirage, California, with the opening of Cotino—the first-ever residential community designed by Walt Disney Imagineers for permanent, year-round living.

While many might mistake it for a vacation club, the reality is that the first wave of homeowners actually moved in early last year, and as of March 2026, the neighborhood is a fully functioning reality.

“Cotino isn’t just a new community—it is a dynamic, creative oasis where residents will experience a vibrant lifestyle that is truly unique,” said Claire Bilby, senior vice president and general manager of Disney Signature Experiences Emerging Businesses in a release. “We’ve infused the beauty of Rancho Mirage with the special kind of magic Disney delivers. This isn't a timeshare or a resort; it is a full-scale neighborhood where Imagineers have transitioned from building roller coasters to designing streets, parks and community hubs. The community recently reached a major milestone with the full opening of the Artisan Club, a resident-only sanctuary that serves as the heartbeat of the neighborhood.

Disney Signature Experiences

The most striking element of the club is the Parr House, a functional, six-bedroom venue and overnight retreat inspired by the mid-century modern home from Pixar’s Incredibles 2. Imagineers collaborated directly with Pixar artists to ensure the design wasn't just a tribute, but a literal "screen-to-street" interpretation of the film’s aesthetic, complete with hidden "Easter eggs" for residents to find in their daily lives.

Life at Cotino is centered around Cotino Bay, a 24-acre turquoise lagoon that brings white-sand beaches to the Coachella Valley. The surrounding Artisan Club serves as the primary social hub, offering a collection of Imagineer-curated spaces that blend luxury with Disney’s creative legacy.

Residents can dine at Architects Fork, a signature restaurant filled with rare ride concept art, or grab cocktails at the beachside bar Plot Twist, which is adorned with sketches from the literary tales that inspired Disney’s films. For a more active lifestyle, the community includes a state-of-the-art wellness center and "themed" pickleball courts, alongside The Studios—a dedicated creative space featuring works by Disney Legends Mary Blair and Marc Davis, ensuring that even a standard afternoon workout or art class is steeped in the brand's signature storytelling.

55 Years Ago Today, Classic ‘Brady Bunch’ Episode Tripped Up Series Star

In 1970, Robert Reed had a humbling moment while filming The Brady Bunch. The actor, who played patriarch Mike Brady in the classic TV sitcom from 1969 to 1974, was notoriously critical of the scripts for the series, and one of the first incidents came in the Season 1 episode titled “The Grass Is  Always Greener.” The episode aired on March 13, 1970, on ABC.

In the episode, Mike and Carol Brady (Florence Henderson) switch roles for a day: the Brady dad helps their daughters with a Girl Scouts cooking badge, and mom goes to baseball practice with their sons.

But as Mike helps Marcia, Jan, and Cindy (Maureen McCormick, Eve Plumb, and Susan Olsen) in the kitchen, the script calls for him to drop a carton of eggs on the floor. Reed reportedly took issue with show creator Sherwood Schwartz's direction to slip on the egg.

In his 1992 book Growing Up Brady, co-star Barry Williams revealed that Reed took a “genuine header" during rehearsals after complaining that the scene was far-fetched.

Ann B. Davis, who played housekeeper Alice on the series, confirmed that Reed called the scene “ridiculous, asinine, totally unbelievable, and the worst kind of hack slapstick.”

"The usual tirade,” she added. "But he did consent to rehearse at once, and when he did, he really did slip on the egg, and I swear he hit the floor so hard that the walls shook.”

Davis told Williams that after she was sure Reed hadn't been seriously hurt, she asked him if he thought he could play the scene realistically now. “At which point he looked up at me, smiled and said, ‘You know Annie, the whole way down I was thinking to myself I deserve this,'" Davis recalled.

A history of complaints

Reed’s complaints went beyond on-camera complaints. Several times during the series, he sent lengthy manifestos to Schwartz in which he pointed out inaccuracies in the scripts.

According to The New York Post, Reed complained about a scene in which he was scripted to say the house smelled like “strawberry heaven” as his wife cooked strawberries on the stove to make preserves. Reed had fact-checked the script and found that strawberries don’t give off a smell while they’re being cooked.

He also complained about an ink stain in an episode about practical jokes, as well as the premise of an episode—which turned out to be the series finale—that featured Greg’s (Williams) hair turning bright orange after he used cheap hair tonic. Reed was ultimately written out of that last script.

In an interview with Retrocrush, Schwartz recounted his years of issues with Reed and added, “He never should have been on the show to begin with.”

“He thought of himself as a major actor,” TheBrady Bunch creator explained. “He was spoiled because he was in a Shakespeare company in England, and he felt he was above TV in general, officially sitcoms.  But he had a contract [with Paramount].”

And, there's no better place to do that than at a flower festival. According to USA Today, which has been working on naming some of the top festivals to see in the country in 2026, there's one place that people should be heading if they want to see daffodils this spring, and it's not where you think. That's because the best flower festival in the U.S. is apparently located at a Georgia garden center, and it's currently full of millions of spring flowers that you have to see (and smell) to believe.

A Ball, Georgia garden center has been named the home of the Best Flower Festival in the U.S. (2026) by USA Today. According to the publication, festival attendees can get a chance to see more than 20 million daffodils during the Daffodil Festival, which spans a staggering 50 acres of land.

Visitors will be able to walk the garden center, where they can expect to spot the pretty white, orange, peach, gold, and of course yellow blooms in fields, hillsides, and valleys. The festival includes 60 different varieties of the spring blooms, which will be at their peak for about 6 weeks, according to USA Today.

When Is the Daffodil Festival

While the garden appears to be in bloom almost all year long, with cherry blossoms, tulips, dogwoods, and azaleas all making an appearance as the seasons change, the Daffodil Festival is clearly the park's crowning jewel.

According to the website, visitors should plan to come out between March and mid-April, and they are encouraged to return every two weeks during this time period to catch the full show, since there is a difference between the blooms as the season progresses.

Tickets range in price by age, according to the website, and you can expect to pay $10 for kids ages 3-12, $16 for those ages 13 to 17, $25 for adults ages 18 to 64, and seniors will have to pay just $18. Meanwhile those under three get in for free and discounts can be found for both first responders and military members.

But, you may want to buy your tickets online in advance, because it does seem like the festival has more than just national recognition. According to USA Today, it was also named one of "The World’s 10 Best Places to See Daffodils" by Flower Magazine, which means people may come in from all over to catch the spring show.

'The Madison' Review: Michelle Pfeiffer Leads Taylor Sheridan's Quietly Devastating Story About Love, Loss, and Healing

Do we know what grief really is? It's so funny that we tend to call ourselves one of the most technologically advanced species in the universe, yet we don't understand everything about human emotions and how to deal with them. Grief has never been a neat emotion because it rarely sits quietly in the corner of a room. It keeps on moving, and it has the power to change how a house feels, how people talk to each other, and even how they prepare their meals. That's what Taylor Sheridan makes us feel with his latest project, The Madison.

In The Madison, Taylor Sheridan steps away from the loud power games he is often known for and comes forward with a much smaller, more personal story, and the result is something deeply emotional. From its opening moments, the show is striking to look at. Wide mountains and beautiful landscapes create a sense of calm, but underneath that calm sits a deep sadness.

At the center of the story are Stacy and Preston, played by Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell. Their marriage feels real in a way that many television relationships do not. Away from the tension inside the family home, the bond between Preston and his brother Paul brings some of the show’s quietest and most meaningful moments. These scenes suggest that sometimes distance from the chaos of the world helps people understand what truly matters.

The story also touches on larger social issues. When Paige becomes the victim of an attack tied to racial identity, the show reminds us that grief does not exist in isolation. The world continues to move, bringing new problems even when a family is already struggling to survive its own pain. Mental health is another important thread throughout the series. The therapy scenes are handled with care and honesty.

They show that therapy is not about quickly fixing someone. It is about learning how to talk about pain, how to understand it, and how to live with it without letting it consume you.

Performances and the Emotional Heart of the Story

But there's one aspect that outshines everything, and it is the bond between Stacy and Preston. They had everything in their lives, and they never took it for granted. They built everything together and made sure they didn't lose themselves while doing that. Yes, the show is sad, but it is also comforting. It makes you realize that it is okay to grieve, and it takes time to overcome that feeling. Michelle Pfeiffer is stunning as Stacy, and the way she handles the show's emotional depth is something that only she could have done. Her dramatic outbursts and quieter moments shape the narrative, creating a poignant image of a woman trying to keep everything together. Kurt Russell is also impressive, bringing a sense of calm to the story whenever he appears on screen. Meanwhile, Beau Garrett, Elle Chapman, and Patrick J. Adams (Russell) are the anchors who support Pfeiffer in delivering a story that feels authentic and hard-hitting, especially Garrett.

All the other supporting cast members, including Rebecca Spence (Liliana), Amiah Miller (Bridgette), and Alaina Pollack (Macy), are equally outstanding.

With The Madison, Taylor Sheridan proves once again that he understands people. This is a quieter story than many of his previous works, but it is just as powerful. Even in the middle of grief, anger, and broken relationships, the show finds moments of warmth. The tragedy becomes the emotional center of the family because they never expected a future filled with uncertainty. Life will never look the same again, but the story suggests that healing, slow and imperfect, can still begin.

All in all, The Madison is not just a tragic story. It is a story about endurance, about family, and about the quiet strength people discover when they are forced to rebuild their lives from the ground up.

Among a standout cast of A-list actors, Marisa Tomei stole the spotlight in the 1992 comedy My Cousin Vinny. The legal comedy went on to become a box office success and a beloved cult classic after premiering in theaters on this day 34 years ago.

Before hitting the big screen, Tomei started her career in the 1983 soap operaAs the World Turns as a series regular, before appearing in the film The Flamingo Kid. She continued her TV career with A Different World and gained some prominence as Lisa Provolone in the Sylvester Stallone 1991 comedy Oscar.

Tomei's big break came when she starred opposite Joe Pesci, who was already a household name, in My Cousin Vinny. She played the role of his on-screen girlfriend, Mona Lisa Vito, who travels with him to Alabama to save his cousin. The film also starredRalph Macchio after the actor had gained Hollywood status for The Karate Kid and The Outsiders.

My Cousin Vinny centered on Bill Gambini (Macchio) and Stan Rothenstein (Mitchell Whitfield), two teenagers from New York who get put on trial in rural Alabama after being falsely accused of murder. With no money for a real lawyer, they call for help and get defended by Bill's family lawyer cousin, Vinny Gambini (Pesci). With no real experience practicing law and being die-hard New Yorkers, My Cousin Vinny created a comedic clash between city folks and conservative Southerners.

Interestingly, Tomei was the only one from the cast to have been nominated at the 1993 Oscars for Best Supporting Actress. On the Thursday, March 12 episode of Brian Entin Investigates, the investigative reporter and NewsNation correspondent interviewed Steve Moore, a retired FBI special agent.

"I'm looking into something that I hadn't thought about much until now," Entin said at the beginning of the episode. "And it's kind of disturbing to think about, but the question of whether the person who is responsible for this—the person who is responsible for Nancy Guthrie's disappearance—could they do this again? Will they reoffend? Could them reoffending actually be when they get caught?"

When asked if there is a public safety concern, Moore acknowledged, "Yes. Yeah, I think so." He added, "I'm no longer 100% in the camp that this was a planned ransom kidnapping. The ransom note came kind of late. And they didn't really try to provide proof of life. I think it's possible that this was something different."

The former FBI agent continued, "If it's not a kidnapping, the things that drove them to this crime will reoccur. If they needed money, they'll need money again. On the other hand, if Nancy's disappearance was a kidnapping, Moore pointed out that the perpetrators "went through an immense amount of trouble, an immense amount of planning, risked their lives, essentially, got through all of this, and didn't get a dime." He then speculated that an actual kidnapping scenario would pose "the least chance of them recurring."

Nancy was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence on Jan. 31, with the Pima County Sheriff's Department launching its search for her on Feb. 1. As of writing, no suspect has been named.

An unforgettable 1976 Happy Days dance scene featured a rising star who would eventually make waves on the nighttime soap opera, Dallas.

In the plot of the Season 4, Episode 8 installment titled, "They Shoot Fonzie's, Don't They?" Fonzie (Henry Winkler) agreed to dance with Joanie (Erin Moran) in a grueling, 15-hour dance marathon. Joanie wanted to defeat her rival, Jill Higgins (Charlene Tilton), the captain of the Pom Pom Girls, who didn't let Joanie join their group, although her cheers were good enough for contention.

However, he didn't anticipate having to push his broken motorcycle home for 12 miles ahead of the event, "the last three on his knees." He didn't want to disappoint Joanie, so he showered and met her at Arnold's.

Fonzie didn't tell Joanie about his ordeal. So he just quietly kept dancing, requesting slow songs so he didn't have to move as much.

At hour 14, an exhausted Fonzie was taken off in a stretcher, giving up until he realized that he would have to get a crew cut. He returned to the floor and performed a dance called the Kazatsky to the Jewish melody "Hava Negila."

Jill couldn't keep up. Exhausted, she and her partner fell to the floor, leaving Fonzie and Joanie the winners.

Just two years later, Tilton was cast on Dallas. She played Lucy Ewing from 1978 to 1985, and later returned to the series from 1988 to 1991.

The actress recalled her Happy Days moment on the YouTube Channel, The Boomer Tube. "I got cast on the show because I had just done my first professional job, a Disney movie called Freaky Friday with Jodie Foster and Barbara Harris," Tilton began.

"I was so nervous," she continued. "But I had a great time."

Happy Days ran on ABC for a decade, from 1974 through 1984.

The springy seat offers a supportive and "very comfortable" cushion that's ideal for lounging for long periods of time. Due to the fact that the chair is fairly compact in size, it's ideal for dorms, small apartments, and other tight spaces where you need additional seating but don't have a lot of room. 

Assembly is required to set up the chair, but one shopper said that it's "pretty easy to put together, and can be done alone. Another reviewer said that the piece is the "perfect size" for adults and kids, as one placed it in the corner of their child's playroom. Other customers described the chair as "sturdy," "super cute," and "so trendy." Some even purchased two of the chairs so they can place a matching set in their living room.

It "feels modern but also adds a touch of elegance to my space," another reviewer said, with a second adding that it's "worth every penny." Since it's stain-treated, the piece is also ideal for those with pets (and, apparently, it's a favorite lounge spot among cats).

And you'll be pleased to know all it takes is one ingredient to give the classic citrus dessert bar new life: preserved lemon.

What Is Preserved Lemon?

Preserved lemon is a condiment made from lemons that have been cured in salt, sometimes with the addition of spices or extra flavorings. The process of making preserved lemons calls for slicing the lemons into quarters or halves, packing them in jars with salt and letting them ferment for many weeks to months. At the end of that time, you have a less bitter lemon with a soft peel.

It's still tangy, but preserved lemons are also salty and have a deeper, richer, more complex flavor than fresh lemons. They're often added to savory dishes, but they're also a great addition to sweets.

Preserving your own is also fairly simple—this helpful guide will show you how it's done. While the whole lemon—the peel, pulp and juice—can be used, the peel of preserved lemons has the most concentrated flavor and its very tender texture makes it easy to blend the ingredient into your favorite dishes.

Why Should You Use Preserved Lemon in Lemon Bars?

In most traditional lemon bar or lemon square recipes, salt fights with sugar to be heard and, unfortunately, loses to its sweet counterpart. When you incorporate preserved lemons into lemon bars, the cured complexity of the ingredient amplifies the salt and all the other flavors. Lemon bars can sometimes be a little bit too sweet or one-note, but when you add preserved lemon, you get a sharp, well-rounded treat. They're sweet but not too sweet and lemony but not just lemony.

How Much Preserved Lemon Should You Add to Lemon Bars?

First, dial back on the amount of lemon juice by about a half. If a recipe calls for three to four lemons, juice two lemons instead. Next, add a 1/4 cup of preserved lemon—either preserved lemon paste or a finely diced whole preserved lemon—to the lemon bar filling. And skip any salt in the recipe. The preserved lemon is plenty salty as it is! This simple, zesty lemon bar recipe is a great place to try this swap.

One word of warning: After you make lemon bars with preserved lemons, you might be ruined for all other lemon bars. If you want a wow-worthy baked good for a dinner party or spring gathering (or maybe your Easter dessert table), this lemon bar upgrade is calling your name.

How Else to Use Preserved Lemon

The ranking, released by the vacation rental marketplace HomeToGo, analyzed 100 coastal towns based on a "Beach Index" that prioritizes affordability, weather, and traveler satisfaction.

With a median nightly price of just $94 per person, this laid-back Gulf Coast gem beat out more famous neighbors by offering a vacation that feels remarkably untouched by the typical spring break frenzy.

The town itself is a west-facing sweep of pale, sugar-fine sand located just minutes from the maritime hub of Port St. Joe. What makes it stand out to editors and travelers alike is its quiet, residential feel; instead of high-rise condos and boardwalk fries, you’ll find low-slung beach houses and wide-open stretches of shoreline.

Because it faces west across St. Joseph Bay toward the T.H. Stone Memorial St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, it is one of the few places on the Panhandle where you can watch the sun set directly over the water. Major Airline Launches 11 New Long-Haul Nonstop Routes

Air travel is about to get a lot easier for international travelers. Delta Air Lines has announced an ambitious expansion with 11 new long-haul nonstop routes, connecting the United States directly to destinations across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. The new routes are part of the airline’s strategy to strengthen major hubs like Boston, Seattle, New York, and Atlanta while giving travelers more direct options without connecting flights. 

For passengers, the expansion means shorter travel times, fewer layovers, and access to new destinations that previously required connections.

Below is a look at the most notable new routes and how long travelers can expect to be in the air.

Boston continues to grow as a major transatlantic gateway for Delta. Two new routes will give New England travelers more direct access to popular European destinations.

  • Boston → Madrid, Spain
    Estimated flight time: ~7-8 hours depending on direction
  • Boston → Nice, France
    Estimated flight time: ~7.5 to 8 hours

Seattle’s Expansion

Delta is also expanding its presence on the West Coast. From Seattle, travelers will gain two exciting European routes:

New York’s Expansion

From New York’s JFK Airport, Delta is adding several Mediterranean destinations that are rarely served nonstop from the United States.

  • New York (JFK) → Porto, Portugal
    Estimated flight time: ~7 hours
  • New York (JFK) → Malta
    Estimated flight time: ~9 to 10 hours

These routes are especially notable because some represent the first nonstop connections between the U.S. and these destinations, expanding tourism opportunities on both sides of the Atlantic.

Other Significant Additions

One of the most significant additions is the return of a major Asian route:

  • Los Angeles → Hong Kong
    Estimated flight time: ~15 to 16 hours

Flights of this length fall into the category of ultra-long-haul travel, requiring large widebody aircraft such as the Airbus A350-900 designed for extended international routes. 

  • Atlanta → Riyadh
    Estimated flight time: ~13 to 14 hours

This route will become the first nonstop flight operated by a U.S. airline between the United States and Saudi Arabia, highlighting Delta’s growing global ambitions.
