'Nightmare Before Christmas' Songwriter Shares 'Priceless' Memory of Catherine O'Hara

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 1:37pm

'Nightmare Before Christmas' songwriter Danny Elfman is sharing a sweet memory of the late Catherine O'Hara.

"She was such a great energy," he said of the actress, while chatting on an episode of 'Score: The Podcast' this week. O'Hara died in January, she was 71.

O'Hara, who lent her voice to the character Sally in the 1993 Tim Burton film, and Elfman, who provided the singing voice to her counterpart, Jack Skellington, went on to perform the film's songs together he recalled, sharing how each show always ended with a tearful moment.

"At the end of every show we have this moment where we just cross the stage and sing that last little reprise," he said. "And just singing those last bits of 'Sally's Song' together and taking her hand and bowing every time I would say, 'I'm not going to get teary eyed this time, this is like the eighth time we've done it' and it would get me every time, she would just look at me this way and then her eyes would start getting wet, and then mine would, and there it goes all over again."

"That's really some of the sweetest memories I have of Catherine," he added. "Just like walking out on stage and singing the last couple lines in unison with her of 'Sally's Song' while looking at her face—priceless moments."

He also shared that while she was a "non-singer," the Schitt's Creek actress "had the best pitch."

"I would sometimes times follow her because she was so on top of it and so sharp," he said.

O'Hara died of a blood clot in her lung, according to records obtained by TMZ.

Following the news of her death, dozens of celebrities including her onscreen kids, Macaulay Culkinand Dan Levy, as well as her longtime Hollywood peers, Martin Short and Steve Martin, took to social media with beautiful tributes.

The "Home Alone" icon was honored at this month's Actor Awards when she posthumously won the award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor for her performance in Apple TV's The Studio. Her co-star Seth Rogen accepted the award on her behalf.

Adults 'Chasing Nostalgia' Are Falling for This Fun Travel Trend

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 1:33pm

Anyone who attended summer camp as a kid likely has some fond memories from their experience. For me, it was getting to dress up on our theme days, and the one or two times a summer that they would load us up into a bus and take us to McDonalds for a happy meal. However, once you reach a certain age, you become the one scheduling summer camps for someone else as those summer spent by the lake or the pool quickly become distant memories.

In recent years, there's been a quiet resurgence in the popularity of summer camps, especially when it comes to ones for adults. And while the trend initially seemed to be specific to America, it seems like Europe is now getting in on the literal fun, as adult summer camps seem to be taking the international stage by storm.

Ever dreamed of heading to the Swiss Alps for the summer? Well, now grown-ups can as part of a tour operation launched by EF Ultimate Break. According to EuroNews, the company is getting into the adult summer camp market, and its specifically catering its services to Millennials and Gen Z who it says are “chasing nostalgia everywhere."

The move comes after grown-up summer camps have seen a rise in success in the U.S., as parents and other adults look for ways to recapture their youth...even if it's only the feeling of getting to go away with a bunch of like-minded people for a week of unifying fun.

"There are a lot of challenges in the world right now, and we are seeing a real yearning among people in their 20s and 30s to return to some of the simplicity of childhood," Alyssa Sands, Director of Tour Development at EF Ultimate Break told EuroNews.

"Summer camp is such a quintessential part of growing up, and the idea of revisiting that feeling as an adult, having activities planned for you, being outdoors, forming friendships without having to force it, is really resonating."

But, these camps do more than just offer people a second-chance at childhood, they can also make solo travelers feel a bit safer, especially those who may be less likely to book international trips while traveling alone.

You Can Find Your Perfect International Summer Camp

While the Swiss Alps would have my vote as the perfect place to head for a week long camp, there truly is something for everyone out there. For example, Camp Chateau offers "unique summer camp experiences for women," according to its website, which includes in person versions and a virtual one for those who can't travel. Campers can stay in one of the castles or cottages, where they are invited to take part in activities that are designed to help with rest and rejuvenation (okay, sign me up for this one, too).

On the other hand, Rogue Expeditions says that it has summer camp options at a few different places, including:

  • Patagonia
  • Morocco
  • Italy

While these camps are designed for runners looking to take tours that will have them experiencing trails in some of the most beautiful places on Earth, there are clearly programs that cater to everyone's interest. All you have to do is figure out what kind of summer camp experience you want to have, where you want to go, and then start researching your options.

While you wouldn't catch me at a running camp, there are absolutely plenty of people who would find that to be a dream camp experience. So, where do you want to head this summer?

The Highly Anticipated Sequel to 'Strange Beasts' Is Coming Next Week — And It's Perfect for 'Penny Dreadful' Fans

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 1:33pm

It may be March, but it’s still a great time of year for a gothic horror read. The highly anticipated sequel to Susan J. Morris’s Strange Beasts is coming out next week, and you will not want to miss out, especially if you’re a Penny Dreadful fan.

Wayward Souls picks up after the events of the first novel, and while you can read this sequel first, you’ll understand the characters and their relationships better by starting with the Strange Beasts. One thing that is guaranteed is that you’ll feel the gothic architecture and Celtic folklore surrounding you the more you read. Wayward Souls will be released on March 17, 2026, so there is plenty of time to plan your purchase.

‘Wayward Souls’ Combines Two Universes Together

Like with Strange Beasts, Morris continues her combination of universes. Dracula and Sherlock Holmes fans will be pulled in thanks to the main characters. Samantha Harker is the daughter of Dracula’s killer, Jonathan Harker, while Helena Moriarty is the daughter of the famed arch-nemesis, Professor James Moriarty.

They work together with Van Helsing to investigate supernatural events. Wayward Souls takes them to Ireland, where they are surrounded by Celtic mythology and folklore. Each chapter beautifully captures the architecture and the feeling of the time period, while creating an energetic read.

The downside is that it’s all told from Sam’s point of view, which takes a lot of story for Van Helsing and Hel out of it. We can only rely on Sam’s experience and hope that she is a reliable narrator.

Capturing the Heart of Being a Woman at the Time

As both the lead characters are women, we get to see the way the world treats them. Everything is set in the past, around the time that the original universes were set, and Sam and Hel come across plenty of misogyny and condescending opinions. It doesn’t help that Hel’s loyalties are questioned due to her father’s identity, and Sam’s abilities are debated.

Yet, they battle the patriarchy. They shut down the naysayers, and they show what it means to be women supporting women — something we need much more of in fiction.

We’re taken on a wild and twisty ride. While some of the conclusions the women come to don’t always make sense, they create a fun-filled world that you can imagine playing out on the small screen. I just kept waiting for Eva Green’s Vanessa Ives to show up, because this novel makes you feel like you’re in the world of Penny Dreadful from the very first page.

Wayward Souls is out on shelves on March 17, 2026, and it’s not one to miss for the gothic horror fans out there.

'America's Newsroom' Co-Anchor Sets Date for Her Fiction Debut

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 1:25pm

One of the biggest questions many people have today is whether love can cross party lines. It came up recently on Love Is Blind, and it’s a constant topic on social media. Dana Perino is best known as the co-anchor on America’s Newsroom and as a former White House Press Secretary, but now she’s branching out into the world of fiction with Purple State.

Debuting on April 21, 2026, Purple State is a charming and heartfelt romance comedy. Sure, there’s a political element to it, but you can still escape into the romance. Plus, fans of Perino will also feel her presence and sharp insights within the story.

‘Purple State’ Bodes a Question About Politics and Love

Dorothy “Dot” Clarke is a 25-year-old PR professional in New York, and just like so many young women in the world today, she feels stuck. Whether it’s her career or her life as a whole, it’s not what she imagined it to be, and she’s ready to move on.

So, when she’s offered an opportunity to work in Cedar Falls, Wisconsin, she takes the bull by the horns and runs with it. Dot seizes the chance to shake everything up in her life. After all, she’s moving to a swing district in a swing state, and this could change the course of the country during the next presidential election.

At the same time, she gets to avoid the hustle and bustle of New York City. This small town has the family farms and close-knit community that she’s always dreamed of having. What more could she possibly ask for?

What about love? When she meets Danny Dawson, everything changes, but they have completely different views on life and politics. Can their love survive an election, or will they need to change too much of who they are?

It’s Not All About Politics

While much of Purple State focuses on the election that is coming up in the story and the different views, it’s not all about the current state of the world. There’s a promise of arcs that everyone can connect to, especially if they’ve felt stuck in their lives.

Don’t know if you’re on the right career path? Not sure about the friends you have? This small-town romance is packed with advice and is sure to make you question whether it’s time to take a leap of faith. Stepping outside of your comfort zone can be what you need for life-changing rewards.

Purple State will hit bookshelves on April 21, 2026, and fans of Perino's non-fiction work will want to check out her fiction debut immediately.

This ’90s Show Was Canceled After One Season—Then Became a Worldwide TV Phenomenon

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 1:10pm

What is now considered an iconic show from the '90s almost didn't return for a second season. Baywatch, which is in the works for a big reboot by Fox, premiered in 1999 and ultimately ran for 11 seasons. However, the show's original network, NBC, bailed on it after one season.

David Hasselhoff played Lieutenant Mitch Buchannon of the Los Angeles County lifeguards on Baywatch. The red bikinis worn by his female staff became legendary.

After one season and lackluster reviews, the network canceled Baywatch. However, Hasselhoff felt certain there was an audience for the show. After he managed to revitalize it, Baywatch then went on to become one of the most-watched shows worldwide, ever.

In announcing the Fox reboot, Fox Television Network president Michael Thorn told Variety, "In its first run, Baywatch defined an entire era of beach life and elevated lifeguards to an iconic status."

Thorn continued, "Now, with our partners at Fremantle, this television juggernaut is set for a modern-day comeback."

Years ago, Hasselhoff explained his role in bringing the show back for a second chance after its initial cancellation. "You know, it was canceled, and I was upset with NBC."

According to Rolling Stone, Hasselhoff wasn't ready to give up on Baywatch, despite its initial cancellation and poor reviews. He managed to snag a syndication deal for it, which brought it back to life.

Over the course of its 11-year run, Baywatch eventually aired in over 140 countries. In its prime, it was one of the world's most-watched television shows, at one time reaching 1.1 billion worldwide viewers.

Entertainment Weekly noted in 1993 that Baywatch was the one of the top three rated U.S. syndicated shows. The only two syndicated shows performing above it were spinoffs in the Star Trek universe.

Across the globe, Baywatch was a top show in Australia, France, the U.K., New Zealand, Ireland, and Germany. It then spread across Asia thanks to a satellite broadcast network launched by Rupert Murdoch.

While Hasselhoff was the initial star of the show, the Baywatch beauties took center stage. Pamela Anderson, Yasmine Bleeth, Carmen Electra, Erika Eleniak, Donna D'Errico, and Nicole Eggert were among those actresses who ran along the beach in the series and went on to have big careers.

In February 2017, Hasselhoff told People what he thought ultimately drove the worldwide success of Baywatch. "You've got to have heart. You've got to have a story. You've got to have humor. And you've got to have action."

Looking back, Hasselhoff reflected, "I think the favorite thing about Baywatch was the fact that it was all run by us."

He explained, "The show was canceled, we brought it back, and there was four of us. So one of us was a writer, one of us was a director, one of us was the lifeguard." Hasselhoff added that he was "the PR guy, the star, keeping up the morale... Keeping it afloat, and keeping it positive, and keeping it light."

By engineering the Baywatch revival via syndication, Hasselhoff earned a lot of money. He told Entertainment Weekly, back during the show's run, "I think I'm the highest-paid actor in syndication. I'm not boasting about it. I'm just happy."

The Fox Baywatch sequel is expected to air during the 2026-2027 season, according to Deadline. So far, stars announced who are joining the series include Pretty Little Liars alum Shay Mitchell, model and Dancing with the Stars alum Brooks Nader, and The Flash and Arrow star Stephen Amell. In addition, Baywatch alum David Chokachi is returning as Cody Madison.

According to Page Six, the dress was by Saint Laurent. Featuring a plunging neckline, it was cinched at the waist with an apricot-colored bow. She finished the look with minimal jewelry and strappy stilettos.

The film, directed by Sorry to Bother You’s Boots Riley, kicked things off on the festival’s opening night, March 12. A zany caper about a group of shoplifters called the Velvet Gang, the comedy stars Moore alongside Keke Palmer (Nope), Naomi Ackie (Blink Twice), Taylour Paige (Zola), and Poppy Liu (Hacks).

Moore plays Christie Smith, a corrupt fashion designer who sports a bleach-blonde bob with dark roots and gets her goods stolen by the Velvet Gang, who turn around and sell them online at lower prices. LaKeith Stanfield (Roofman) and Eiza González (3 Body Problem) round out the cast.

“When it came to I Love Boosters, it was more me thinking about specifically fashion, which is thought of as an artistic endeavor,” Riley said, per Deadline. “What is behind art? You can put that with everything. How does it get made? What puts the value on it?”

Moore was last seen in the Taylor Sheridan series The Landman, following her Oscar-worthy run on the big screen, starring in Coralie Fargeat’s body horror filmThe Substance. Moore was nominated for Best Actress at the 2025 Oscars for her role as Elisabeth, but lost to Mikey Madison, 26, who starred in the Best Picture winner, Anora

I Love Boosters hits theaters May 22.

2000s Rocker, With 13 No. 1 Hits, Turns 53

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 1:00pm

David Draiman, the legendary frontman of the heavy metal band Disturbed, is marking another major milestone today.

From the award-winning band’s breakthrough success in the 2000s to their continued dominance in the music scene, the four-member lineup, featuring longtime members Dan Donegan on guitar and programming, Mike Wengren on drums, John Moyer on bass and backing vocals and Draiman on lead vocals, has delivered not only standout tracks but also numerous chart-topping hits that solidified their status as one of the most successful metal bands of their era.

Now, Draiman is celebrating his special day as the iconic vocalist turns 53.

Born on March 13, 1973, the Brooklyn native grew up in a religious Jewish household along with his brother Ben Draiman, who is also a musician.

Before finding his path in heavy metal, his parents wanted him to become a rabbi and he was even trained as a cantor.

However, he pursued music professionally after seeing a classified ad in 1996.

At the time, the band Brawl was looking for a new singer after their previous vocalist left.

He saw this as an opportunity to break into the music scene and was able to captivate members Dan Donegan, Mike Wengren and Steve Kmak with his talent.

After joining in 1996, he suggested changing the band’s name to Disturbed and the rest is history for the group.

Did You Know? Disturbed Has 13 No. 1 Hits on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay Chart

Known for their iconic song "Down with the Sickness" as well as their cover of "The Sound of Silence," originally sung by folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel, David Draiman’s band was among the groups with the most top hits on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart.

According to Billboard, they are tied with Godsmack and Van Halen, while Foo Fighters and Metallica are tied with 14.

Five Finger Death Punch has earned a total of 15 No. 1 hits, while Three Days Grace has scored 18. Meanwhile, the band with the most No. 1 hits on the chart is Shinedown, with an impressive 20 to date.

Amid the group’s success, David Draiman revealed the best advice he received in his career.

“To be patient,” he told Rock Feed, adding, “If there are two things that both my career and my son have taught me, it's having more patience.”

He shares his son, Samuel Bear Isamu Draiman, with his ex-wife and former WWE Diva Lena Yada. The iconic frontman is now married to model Sarah Uli.

Chaz Bono Wedding Photos Revealed: See His Wife's Cher-Like Look

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 12:56pm

New photos just dropped from the March wedding of Chaz Bono, son of Cher and the late Sonny Bono. Chaz married his longtime partner Shara Blue Mathes, and the new photos of the bride, in particular, are giving a definite Cher-inspired vibe.

A commenter on the new wedding photos writes, "Omg his wife looks like Cher...go figure."

Maybe it's Mathes' longer dark locks, the iconic Cher middle part, or the pretty high cheekbones, but the similarities with Chaz's famous mom's look are definitely apparent in these photos. The two women haven't really resembled one another in the past. Cher's often blonder these days, and Mathes often wears cute eyeglasses and has worn shorter hair in the past. But at least for her wedding day, Mathes seems to have taken a page out of Cher's gorgeous style book.

Smart move, right? After all, who's more stylish and cool than Cher. As for Chaz, well, nothing says motherly love and respect like marrying a person who can rock a look like your one-of-a-kind mom. Random or not, it's adorable honestly.

Bono and his mom have been very open about past ups and downs in their relationship. Particularly in the earlier years when Chaz came out gay and then soon after as trans, Cher admits she needed a minute to comes to terms with this new reality. But in a 2018 interview, Cher stated, "Chaz is so happy now and we get along better than ever."

According to the People exclusive, Chaz and his wife first met several decades ago at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. "I first met Shara more than 40 years ago when we were just teenagers," Bono says. "I think it’s safe to say that not many grooms ultimately end up marrying the very first girl they ever kissed so many years later."

Bono, 57, and Mathes tied the knot at The Hollywood Roosevelt hotel in Los Angeles on March 8. Cher, 79, was in attendance, stealing the show by, well, being Cher but also by flaunting a her gigantic "maybe" engagement ring.

'Stand By Me' Stars Remember River Phoenix 40 Years Later: 'He Was the Glue'

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 12:45pm

It's been 40 years since audiences were introduced to Gordie (Wil Wheaton), Vern (Jerry O'Connell), Teddy (Corey Feldman), and Chris (River Phoenix), a group of friends who embark on a journey to see the dead body of a missing kid. Despite its macabre-sounding premise, Stand By Me is beloved by both young and old, and is recognized as a coming-of-age film that others are compared to.

View this post on Instagram

To celebrate the film's anniversary, Wheaton, Feldman, and O'Connell decided to go on a tour, Stand By Me: Live, to talk to audiences and share the film with them. But it's impossible not to notice the absence of their late co-star, Phoenix, who died on Oct. 31, 1993—especially with one chair on stage left empty in remembrance of the actor.

"What a unique and talented actor he was," Wheaton told People. "He kind of held us together in this way that I still don't understand. I think for different reasons, all of us kind of leaned on him in different ways."

"River really was the kindest," he said. "He really was the glue. He was just such a kind guy. We really were these characters."

O'Connell was quick to agree with Wheaton's "kindest" assessment, noting that he felt "safe" around Phoenix. "He was so welcoming of everyone and just the kindest kid I ever met," he said. "And it's funny, I have teenagers now, so I can see how mean teenagers can be. River wasn't that at all. He was just a kind soul."

Feldman felt that each of them had a lot in common with the characters they played. Phoenix's character was the reliable one they could all depend on, as was Phoenix himself.

"River was the serious one," he explained. "River was the one who brought us all together, and that was his character. But there was that reality of each of us within our characters, which is what makes this an inseparable bond."

Shortly after starting the tour, Stand By Me's director, Rob Reiner, died. The three of them were shocked by the news and grateful to have each other for support. It also ultimately changed how they've treated their subsequent interactions with fans.

"Now, when we take this on the road, I feel like we have a duty to remind everybody who River was; who Rob was," O'Connell said. "What they meant, how much they helped us, how much they changed us."

Acting Legend Harvey Keitel, 86, Sports Long White Hair in Rare Appearance Alongside Wife and Son

Harvey Keitel is one of the most respected actors in Hollywood, but he tends to avoid the red carpet.

The legendary actor, 86, known for diverse roles ranging from The Piano to Reservoir Dogs, stepped out with his wife, Daphna Kastner, and son, Roman Keitel, at the Los Angeles Opening of I Live Here Now at the Aero Theatre this week. I Live Here Now, a horror thriller, is actually the directorial debut of Julie Pacino, the daughter of Keitel's dear friend Al Pacino.

Knowing how rare a red carpet appearance by Keitel is, it's quite a sight to see the acting legend step out with his family. Sporting long white locks, the Tattooist of Auschwitz star looked happy and healthy as he celebrated the occasion.

What Did Keitel Say About Losing His Friend and Co-star, Michael Madsen?

Last year, Keitel's friend and Reservoir Dogs costar Michael Madsen died at age 67. The duo appeared alongside each other in director Quentin Tarantino's beloved 1992 film, which follows the story of a diamond heist that goes terribly wrong. In a touching statement, Keitel shared his grief and honored his friend's memory.

“We’ve lost another great American poet,” Keitel said in a statement to the New York Post. “Farewell, my dear friend.”

Does Harvey Keitel Plan on Retiring?

Keitel is going strong at 86. Back in 2019, the actor shared why he doesn’t feel all that interested in slowing down as he ages. In an interview with the Guardian, he opened up about the potential to step into retirement.

“Retirement? No, not really.I don’t think anyone loses their powers as they get older. As long as you’re involved and interested, then you can’t lose it,” said Keitel. “That’s how I keep being surprised. Old age is actually infused with youthful things. I eat properly, I exercise, and I don’t abuse anything. I take care of myself.”

This European Destination Is Topping Spring Breaker's List—And No, It's Not an Island

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 12:27pm

When most people think of spring break, images of tropical beaches, all-inclusive resorts, and island getaways usually come to mind. But in 2026, travelers are showing a growing interest in something different. According to recent booking data from AAA, one of the most popular international spring break destinations isn’t a beach destination at all, but rather it’s the historic city of Rome.

So why are so many travelers choosing a historic European city over sandy beaches this year? The answer lies in a mix of culture, weather, affordability, and the chance to experience one of the world’s most iconic destinations without peak summer crowds.

View this post on Instagram Why Rome Is Trending for Spring Break

Spring is widely considered one of the best times of the year to visit Rome. The weather is mild, with temperatures typically around the mid-60s. This makes it comfortable to explore the city’s famous outdoor landmarks without the intense summer heat.

It’s also the time of year when tourist crowds are smaller than in summer, allowing visitors to enjoy major attractions with shorter lines and a more relaxed atmosphere.

For travelers looking to balance relaxation with exploration, Rome offers something many traditional spring break destinations can’t: a mix of history, culture, and world-class food.

A City Filled With Bucket-List Landmarks

One of the biggest draws of Rome is its incredible concentration of famous landmarks. Visitors can walk through thousands of years of history in a single day.

Some of the most iconic sites include:

  • Colosseum: the massive ancient Roman amphitheater that once hosted gladiator battles.
  • Vatican City: home to the Pope and the stunning St. Peter's Basilica.
  • Trevi Fountain: the famous fountain where visitors toss coins to ensure they return to Rome someday.
  • Roman Forum: the ruins of what was once the political and social center of ancient Rome.

For many spring breakers, this makes Rome feel like a trip and an educational experience combined, especially for students studying history, art, or architecture.

Food That Makes the Trip Worth It

Another major reason travelers are flocking to Rome is its legendary food scene.

Spring breakers can spend their days exploring the city and their evenings enjoying Italian classics like:

  • Cacio e pepe
  • Carbonara
  • Fresh wood-fired pizza
  • Gelato from neighborhood shops

Dining in Rome is often a relaxed, social experience that stretches late into the evening, making it perfect for groups of friends traveling together.

Another factor behind Rome’s rise in popularity is improving airfare and travel deals. With more direct flights from U.S. cities and competitive airline pricing, visiting Europe for spring break is becoming more accessible than it was just a few years ago.

Many travelers are also discovering that visiting Europe in spring can be less expensive than peak summer travel, especially when it comes to hotels and tours.

A Different Kind of Spring Break

While beach destinations like Florida remain popular, the rise of Rome shows that spring break travel is evolving.

More travelers are looking for trips that combine adventure, culture, and memorable experiences instead of simply relaxing by the water and few places deliver that better than Rome, a city where every street corner reveals ancient ruins, beautiful architecture, or a cafe serving unforgettable pasta.

‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Fans Need To Prepare for a New Vampire Novel ‘Thrall’ From Rebecca Mahoney

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 12:14pm

We fell in love with Buffy the Vampire Slayer for all types of reasons. For some, it was the female lead, proving to young girls that we can kick butt. For others, it was as the stories progressed, and we got Willow’s development and relationship with Tara. Whichever of the two reasons, Thrall by Rebecca Mahoney is sure to be the next read.

Thrall will hit shelves on April 21, 2026, and it already promises to be an exciting time. Described as a queer campus horror and romance novel, it incorporates a unique form of storytelling to dive into the campus element of the story.

Thrall by Rebecca Mahoney Is for the Vampire Fans

While novels like Twilight and The Vampire Diaries brought romances with vampires, the world of the monster arguably started with Dracula. He was a fierce villain, and he quickly set up the reminder that while monsters can be alluring, they need to be killed. Buffy the Vampire Slayer did cross the line now and then into romance with the vampires, but it kept the focus on the darkness of the undead.

That’s something Thrall promises to offer. When 23-year-old Lucy Easting wakes up in her college dorm room the night after a party with a blacked-out memory and two puncture wounds on her neck, she is taken down a rabbit hole of mystery and uncertainty.

Is it possible that vampires are real? That’s something she has to take in, as she finds other victims who have joined forces to take out the predator who is stalking the college campus. This is where the romance comes in, as Lucy meets her protector, who ends up becoming her potential love interest.

A Unique Form of Storytelling

Mahoney isn’t one for the standard form of prose. Thrall includes a unique form of storytelling to pull readers into the college campus setting. There are transcripts from a student-run radio show, allowing the students to share their experiences and find a way to protect each other.

After all, the institution itself isn’t going to do anything, and it’s the student radio station that helps Lucy figure out everything that’s happened to her. This is the perfect time for a story about advocacy and standing up for what’s right.

Don’t miss Thrall by Rebecca Mahoney from Disney Publishing as it arrives on shelves on April 21, 2026.

Nancy Guthrie Update: Sheriff’s Latest Comments May Reveal 'Why'—But Not 'Who' (Exclusive)

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 12:07pm

Nancy Guthrie is still missing, and new comments from Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos have left the internet with more questions than answers.

On Thursday, March 12, Nanos spoke with NBC News and provided a bit of an update on the ongoing investigation.

"We believe we know why he did this, and we believe that it was targeted, but we can’t—we’re not 100% sure of that," Nanos said, suggesting that the motive behind the suspect's action is clear. Nanos didn't elaborate further, however, and refused to get into the various theories surrounding the case.

In an effort to dissect Nanos' comments, Parade reached out to retired homicide detective and three-decade veteran of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, widely known for his work on some of the most notorious criminal cases in Southern Nevada, Phil Ramos.

Ramos offered some insight after Nanos suggested that authorities know who was behind the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. While the sheriff’s comments signal progress in the investigation, the expert emphasizes that understanding a suspect’s motive doesn’t automatically reveal the person responsible or how the crime was carried out. The detective’s perspective highlights the challenges investigators face as they work to piece together the full picture and bring clarity to the case.

Sheriff Chris Nanos believes he knows why Nancy Guthrie was "targeted."

NBC/TODAY

"So that’s somewhat interesting, but not surprising," Ramos said of Nanos' latest comments. "Knowing the motive can be very important IF you couple that with knowing the means and opportunity, I suspect those two aspects are not clear. It suggests who would have the motive but not necessarily the actual person/persons committing the crime."

As for why Nanos may have made these specific comments now, Ramos said it's likely his way of saying "they have made progress, just not enough yet to arrest."

While just about everyone who has been following the Guthrie case has been very curious about the motive—why did someone do this?—Ramos said that authorities knowing the motive is "always a key factor," but the importance of knowing that information "depends on how serious the motive was to the perpetrators, whether it be money, revenge, [or something else]."

By Nanos saying he believes that Guthrie was "targeted," it implies that the suspect had "some degree of connection" to her, though it doesn't mean it was someone necessarily close to her.

While authorities may have figured out the "why," Ramos says, "the 'who' and 'what' are [still] missing." When it comes to a family member being involved, Ramos says that "they are still clear, UNLESS they have some association with the suspects." Nanos cleared Guthrie's immediate family and their spouses on February 16.

JCPenney Shoppers Call Christian Siriano's Glam Stoneware Dish Set a 'Must-Have'

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 12:05pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

When you hear the name Christian Siriano, chances are your mind goes straight to fashion. Maybe you remember his breakout win on Project Runway, or perhaps you picture the dramatic, showstopping gowns he's created for the red carpet over the years. Either way, Siriano has built a reputation for bold glamour and impeccable tailoring, so dinner plates might not be the first thing you think about—I totally get that.

But in recent years he's been expanding his creative reach beyond the runway and into the home. The designer now has a growing collection of housewares that brings his signature vibe into everyday spaces, from decor accents to tabletop pieces. It's the same polished, slightly dramatic style you'd expect from Siriano's fashion work, just translated into items you can actually use around the house.

Christian Siriano New York Solene 12-piece Stoneware Dinnerware Set, $125.99 (reg. $200) at JCPenney Christian Siriano New York Solene Stoneware Dinnerware Set at JCPenney

JCPenney

One place you can find his housewares is at JCPenney, including this stunning New York Solene 12-piece Stoneware Dinnerware Set that's currently on sale for $125.99.

Normally I don't expect stoneware to have such a glam aesthetic, but Siriano proves that the leap from couture to kitchen isn't as big as it might seem (or maybe he just makes it look easy). The new stoneware set carries the kind of elegant, fashion-forward vibe you’d expect from a designer known for making people feel a little more glamorous, whether they’re walking a red carpet or simply sitting down to dinner at home.

The Christian Siriano New York Solene 12-piece Stoneware Dinnerware Set comes with, you guessed it, 12 pieces of tableware. You'll find four 8-inch salad plates, four 10 7/8-inch dinner plates and four bowls, all decked out in that glossy black colorway and rimmed with a metal band in a yellow gold tone.

In one review, a JCPenney shopper says this set is a "must-have," before elaborating on why they love it so much.

"I absolutely love my Christian Siriano dinnerware set in the black and gold design," they wrote. "The glossy finish gives it such a luxurious, high-end look—it truly feels like something you'd see in a fine dining restaurant. The black base with the gold detailing is elegant and timeless, making any meal feel extra special."

Keep in mind you cannot put any of the pieces from this set in the microwave—it's a major no-no. And while you can put it in the dishwasher, JCPenney recommends using a gentle cycle and turning off the machine before the drying cycle. This is because high temperatures can cause the metal bands to soften. Take care of this dinnerware set, and you'll have a collection of sleek and chic table settings for years to come.

EU Officially Ditches Passport Stamps—Here's What to Expect

Fri, 03/13/2026 - 12:04pm

For generations, the small ink stamp in a passport was the souvenir of crossing a border. It told the story of a journey in quiet, bureaucratic shorthand. A date in Rome. A quick stamp in Madrid. Maybe a slightly smudged one from a sleepy airport officer in Prague.

Now that ritual is fading. Across the Schengen Area, the European Union’s new Entry/Exit System, often called EES, is replacing passport stamps with biometric border checks and digital records. Instead of ink, your entry will be recorded with fingerprints, facial scans, and a centralized database that tracks your time in Europe.

Subscribe to our newsletter and get awesome stories like this delivered straight to your inbox!

Why Europe Is Ending Passport Stamps

The new Entry/Exit System is designed to modernize border control across the Schengen Area, which includes most European Union countries along with Iceland, Norway, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. The system records when non-EU visitors enter and leave the region using biometric data instead of relying on passport stamps. “The Entry/Exit System is the digital backbone of our new common European migration and asylum framework.” Magnus Brunner, the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration, said in a statement.

In practical terms, that means every time a traveler from outside the EU crosses a Schengen border, the system logs the entry digitally. Passport information, fingerprints, facial images, and travel dates are recorded and stored in a centralized database.

Related: TSA’s New Proposal Could Cost Some Travelers an Extra $18 at the Airport

The goal is to improve border security and reduce overstays. With stamps, calculating the classic “90 days within 180 days” rule could become messy if stamps were faint or missing. A digital system eliminates the guesswork. The EES automatically tracks how long travelers remain in the region and flags overstays across all participating countries.

It is also part of a broader shift toward automated borders worldwide. Governments increasingly rely on biometric technology because it allows faster identity verification and stronger security checks.

What Actually Happens at the Airport Now

From a traveler’s perspective, the first trip to Europe after the system is implemented will feel slightly different at passport control. Instead of simply handing over your passport for a stamp, you will likely stop at a self-service kiosk. There, you scan your passport and provide biometric information, usually a facial photo and fingerprints.

The kiosk captures your passport details, entry location, and biometric data, then sends the information into the EES database. After that, a border officer verifies the information before allowing entry.

The first registration may take a little longer than the old stamp process. Early trials suggest it can add roughly a minute per passenger, especially during busy travel periods. Once your biometric record exists, however, future trips should be faster. For repeat visits within about three years, border officers only need to verify your fingerprints or facial scan against the stored record rather than create a new entry from scratch.

Related: TSA’s Latest Real ID Policy Sparks Confusion for Travelers

Do Travelers Need to Do Anything Before Their Trip?

The reassuring part is that most travelers do not need to fill out any forms or complete any applications ahead of time for the Entry/Exit System. Registration typically happens automatically at the border when you first arrive in a Schengen country. There is no pre-travel application required for the system itself.

However, there are still a few practical things travelers should double check before departure:

  • First, make sure your passport is biometric and machine readable. Most passports issued since 2006 already contain the electronic chip needed for the new system.
  • Second, keep the familiar Schengen rule in mind. Travelers from visa-exempt countries like the United States can still stay up to 90 days within a 180-day period without a visa. The difference is that the system now calculates that limit automatically.
  • Third, arrive at the airport with a little extra patience. During the early rollout, border checkpoints may experience longer lines as travelers complete their first biometric registration.

Get the latest travel inspiration and news delivered straight to your inbox.

Another Change Is Coming Soon: ETIAS

The next step will be the European Travel Information and Authorization System, known as ETIAS. This program will require travelers from visa-exempt countries to apply online for travel authorization before visiting Europe, similar to the United States ESTA system.

ETIAS is expected to launch after the EES rollout is complete. Once it begins, travelers will complete a short online application and pay a small fee for authorization that will remain valid for multiple trips over several years. For now, though, travelers do not need to apply for ETIAS yet. Officials say the system will be announced well before it becomes mandatory.

What This Means for the Travel Experience

If you love flipping through old passport stamps after a trip, the change may feel slightly nostalgic. The stamp from Lisbon or Vienna carried a certain romance. It was physical proof of movement across borders.

But from a practical perspective, the new system reflects how travel itself has changed. Air travel volumes have grown dramatically, and border control systems built decades ago were not designed for millions of passengers moving across Europe every week. Digital tracking may lack the charm of a fresh stamp, but it promises something most travelers appreciate even more. A smoother, faster border crossing.

Personally, I will miss the stamps. They feel like travel artifacts. Still, if a quick fingerprint scan gets me out of the airport and into a café in Florence faster, I suspect I will learn to live without the ink.
