A simple, heartfelt interaction with a local police officer in Alameda has captured attention online.

The Alameda Police Department shared an Instagram photo showing Liu smiling alongside Officer Kwok at a local ice cream shop. The post quickly gained traction, not just because of Liu’s fame, but because of the meaningful connection behind the moment.

According to the department, the encounter was more than just a chance meeting.

American ski legend Lindsey Vonn is taking small but powerful steps in her recovery after a frightening crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics, starting with something as simple as going outside again.

More than a month after her accident, Vonn shared a short video of herself riding a three-wheeled electric scooter around her yard. It marked her first time outdoors since the crash.

“Look out world! Here we come 🛴 💃🏼🐶 was my first time outside in over a month,” she wrote, smiling as her dog, Chance, ran happily beside her.

Vonn’s journey back to her feet began on Feb. 8, when her Olympic run ended just 13 seconds after it started. While racing downhill on the Tofane course in Italy, she clipped a gate, lost control and crashed violently.

The impact left her with serious leg injuries, including fractures that required immediate medical attention. At one point, doctors feared she might lose her leg due to a dangerous condition called compartment syndrome, where swelling cuts off blood flow.

In the days that followed, Vonn underwent five surgeries in just 10 days. One of them was a six-hour reconstructive procedure. Now recovering at home in Park City, Utah, she faces a different kind of challenge: regaining strength, mobility and confidence.

Even simple movements are part of a careful plan. She recently shared that she could only bike for five minutes at a time and has been slowly working her muscles back to life.

“The only thing I’m doing right now is taking care of my body,” she explained. “If you don’t do the work your body will freeze.”

Despite the pain and setbacks, Vonn has found ways to stay positive and even add a bit of humor to her situation. She named her scooter “Speedy,” joking that it’s her only way to go fast for now. 

In another post, she welcomed her sister, Karin Kildow, into what she called the “Vonn rehab center” after Kildow suffered an ACL injury.

At the same time, Vonn is also coping with personal loss. Her longtime dog, Leo, passed away just one day after her Olympic crash. Returning home without him, she admitted, was “a very hard reality.”

After Dr. McKay (Fiona Dourif) slipped out of the bustling ER shortly before shift change on this season of The Pitt, sneaking off to see to a patient under the table, the young woman's gnarly leg infection left us with more questions than answers by the time all was said and done.

The resident took doctor-to-be Ogilvie (Lucas Iverson) along for the ride when she met a young woman named Kiki (Lorna Lominac), whom the ER doc treats off the books in the park across the street as part of the hospital's street medicine team.

Kiki explained that her leg was “getting stinky again,” and pulled up her skirt to reveal a giant, necrotic wound across the length of her thigh, with black tissue—also known as eschar—creating a gaping fissure amid the rest of the yellowing, damaged skin.

Ogilvie mistook the area for an infected injection site, but this wound actually formed from the inside out as a result of Kiki's drug of choice: tranq, also known as xylazine.

What Is Xylazine?

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, xylazine is a sedative used in veterinary medicine. As such, it's known by the street name "tranq." It often ends up mixed in with other drugs, like fentanyl, without the user's knowledge, but many people also use it on its own—though it is not approved for use in humans.

Why Does Xylazine Cause Wounds?

One of the common negative effects that xylazine has on people is the formation of gruesome skin wounds, which have colloquially come to be known as xylazine wounds.

According to the American Family Physician Journal, these abscesses and ulcers are believed to be the result of vasoconstriction caused by the drug through frequent use. In other words, the blood vessels constrict, restricting blood flow and decreasing the perfusion of oxygen to the surrounding tissues. Over time, this leads to open wounds and, eventually, necrosis—or death—of the skin in the affected area, because the lack of adequate oxygenation also impairs the body's ability to heal. As McKay explained to the medical student, “xylazine wounds can show up anywhere”—not just at the site of injection, since the drug can also be ingested, snorted, or smoked.

How Do You Treat Xylazine Wounds?

McKay and Ogilvie's treatment method of irrigating the wound with a sterile saline solution before covering it with Medihoney—an antibacterial treatment that clears necrotic tissue and promotes wound healing—and wrapping it with xeroform—a specialized dressing that keeps the area moist and does not stick to the wound.

Depending on the extent of the damage and risk for infection, patients may also need antibiotics.

According to Penn Medicine’s Center for Addiction Medicine and Policy, some wounds may also require surgery to clean out the infected tissue. 

In Kiki's case, McKay skipped over the antibiotics but made sure to provide the patient with plenty of replacement supplies so she could clean and redress the wound each day.

In 1982, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts’ “I Love Rock ’n’ Roll” didn’t just top the charts. It took over, spending seven weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and becoming one of the most recognizable rock songs of all time.

But the story of “I Love Rock ’n’ Roll” actually begins years earlier—and with a completely different band.

The song was originally written and recorded in 1975 by British glam rock group The Arrows. At first, it was released as a B-side and gained only modest attention. Its second life began when Joan Jett first heard the track while touring England in the mid-1970s as a member of The Runaways.

According to music historian Fred Bronson's book "The Billboard Book of Number One Hits," Jett was already deeply embedded in the rock scene by then—she had formed the Runaways at just 15 years old, helping blaze a trail for women in rock while tearing through the Los Angeles music circuit. Even so, when she brought “I Love Rock ’n’ Roll” to the band, they ultimately passed on recording it.

Jett didn’t forget it.

After the Runaways split, she recorded an early version in 1979—but it wasn’t until she teamed up with the Blackhearts in 1981 that the song finally found its definitive form.

That version came together under relentless conditions. Jett later recalled recording during the week and touring on weekends, a nonstop pace that helped sharpen the band’s sound. The result was a gritty, no-frills recording built around a pounding beat and a chant-along chorus that felt tailor-made for arenas.

There was resistance at first. As noted by Bronson, radio programmers weren’t immediately sure how to categorize the track—"contemporary music stations found ‘I Love Rock ’n Roll’ too punk. New wave stations felt it was too rock. Adult contemporary stations thought it was more suitable for CHR," wrote the historian. But once audiences heard it, momentum built quickly and radio airtime soon followed.

By March 1982, “I Love Rock ’n’ Roll” was everywhere.

It ultimately became Joan Jett’s only No. 1 single, but its legacy far outlasted its chart run. The song was certified platinum for selling over two million copies in the U.S., ranked among the biggest hits of the year, and has since been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

More than four decades later, it remains a defining rock anthem—proof that the right artist, at the right moment, can turn an overlooked song into something immortal.

Brittany Mahomes, wife of Patrick Mahomes, is celebrating a major fitness milestone nearly two years after a painful back injury once limited her movement. 

In a recent Instagram Story, she shared a short but powerful update from her workout session, revealing she can now perform heavy deadlifts again, without pain.

“Never thought I would see the day of doing (kinda heavy) deadlifts again with no back pain man they feel good,” Brittany Mahomes wrote, marking a turning point in her long recovery journey.

“Just your daily reminder: Once you have kids please take care of your pelvic floor. Seriously,” she wrote back then, adding, “From: A girl with a fractured back.”

The injury made even simple movements difficult. According to her fitness coach, Brittany Mahomes once dealt with “severe pain and limited movement” during the early stages of rehab. Slowly, she began rebuilding her strength through careful and consistent training.

Her coach later praised her progress, noting how she moved from lifting light weights to more demanding exercises. 

“Proof that the body is capable of incredible things when you meet it with patience and intentional training,” the coach shared in a past update.

Brittany Mahomes’ journey is also closely tied to her life as a mother of three. She shares children Sterling, Bronze and Golden with Patrick Mahomes, balancing family life while staying committed to her health.

After welcoming her youngest child in early 2025, she focused on postpartum recovery, gradually regaining strength week by week. Earlier updates indicated she was easing back into workouts, starting with lighter lifts before progressing to more challenging routines.

While Brittany Mahomes celebrates her personal win, the Mahomes family has also faced recent challenges. Patrick Mahomes is currently recovering from a serious knee injury that ended his season after a December game.

Despite the setback, the NFL star has remained hopeful. The couple has continued to support each other through both recovery journeys, Brittany Mahomes’ return to strength training and Patrick Mahomes’ ongoing rehab.

Off the field, they’ve also shared glimpses of family life, including a recent beach getaway with their three children. 

For mothers, athletes and anyone recovering from injury, her story offers a clear message: progress takes time, but it is possible. And for Brittany Mahomes, this moment is more than just a workout; it’s proof that she’s stronger than ever.

Jill Duggar Dillard is speaking out for the first time since her brother Joseph Duggar was arrested.

On Wednesday, Mar. 18, Joseph was arrested and charged for Lewd and Lascivious Behavior, involving unlawful sexual activity with a minor. 

In the late evening hours of Thursday, Mar. 19, Jill and her husband Derick Dillard issued a statement via their website in response to the arrest.

"We were shocked yesterday evening to learn of Jill’s brother (Joseph Duggar’s) arrest," the statement began. "We first learned of anything related to his charges yesterday via a text from a friend who messaged us about the recent media reports of Joseph’s arrest and his alleged confession to molesting a juvenile female in 2020. We are shocked and heartbroken." 

"We strongly condemn abuse. We support the rule of law and hope that justice will be achieved," the statement continued. "Our hearts go out to the innocent juvenile victim of this unspeakable crime and her family. We pray God gives her strength, comfort and hope, and that she is able to get all the help and support she needs and deserves in the days ahead." 

The statement concluded, "We love our sister-in-law, Kendra, and our four nieces and nephews and pray that they feel loved and supported during this time as we cannot imagine the indescribable pain they feel as they process and grieve everything."

According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office Facebook, investigators were contacted on Mar. 18, by a police detective in Tontitown, Arkansas—where the Duggar family lives—about a report of past sexual abuse.

During a forensic interview, the 14-year-old victim disclosed incidents involving Duggar during a family vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida, when she was 9. 

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim reported that Duggar “repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap, sit beside him on a couch, and cover them with a blanket.” Duggar then allegedly made inappropriate contact with the victim and rubbed his hands on her thighs.

The victim said that Duggar eventually apologized, and that the alleged misconduct stopped after the apology. 

Investigators discovered the victim’s father confronted Duggar about these incidents on Mar. 17, 2026, with Duggar admitting his actions to the victim’s father and to Tontitown Detectives.

Duggar was arrested out of state and faces charges of Lewd and Lascivious Behavior, including Molestation of a victim under 12 and conduct by a person 18 or older. He is currently awaiting extradition to Bay County.

This is not the first arrest for the Duggar family, either. Duggar’s older brother, Josh Duggar, was convicted of possessing child sexual abuse material in 2021 and sentenced to over 12 years in prison. The Dillards condemned Josh's actions after his conviction as well.

Actor Kristen Stewart, 35, took on the high-profile role of Princess Diana in the film Spencer in 2021 (and got nominated for an Oscar too), and now she's signed on to play another iconic woman in history—astronaut and physicist Sally Ride—in a new limited television series called The Challenger.

Stewart, whose movie acting career set ablaze during the Twilight series, has been pushing beyond the Bella Swan role for more than a decade now, and, as she showed us in Spencer, she's not afraid of reinventing herself with meatier roles. The Sally Ride role is her latest big move, and it'll be interesting to see how Stewart morphs once again to bring Ride to life.

For historical context—on June 18, 1983, Sally Ride became the first American woman in space aboard the Shuttle Challenger, as well as an instant '80s feminist icon. Girls and women finally got an actual representative in space. Even Mattel couldn't help but introduce "Astronaut Barbie" in 1985. And Sally Ride, merely by being Sally Ride, showed the world that math and science aren't "guy" things and went on to push STEM education for girls throughout her life.

After her death in 2012, it was also disclosed that Ride was in a 27-year relationship with her partner Tam O'Shaughnessy, which makes her the first known LGBTQ+ astronaut as well.

Based on the official logline for the show, The Challenger series focuses on the events before and after the January 1986 Challenger tragedy, which killed seven crew members including teacherChrista McAuliffe. However, the story will include Ride’s personal journey "through the ranks of the shuttle program, through initial recruitment and training, professional and personal highs and lows, until Sally’s historic glass ceiling moment as she becomes the first American woman in space.”

The official announcement for Stewart's new role reads as follows: "Amazon MGM Studios has officially greenlit The Challenger, a limited series starring Kristen Stewart as astronaut and physicist Sally Ride, who in 1978 became the first American woman to fly in space."

This is Stewart's first television project, and she will also be an executive producer on the series. No date yet for when The Challenger will air.

Find theme words to fill the board.

• Theme words stay highlighted in blue when found.

Find the “spangram.”

• The spangram describes the puzzle's theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. It may be two words.
• The spangram highlights in yellow when found.
• An example spangram with corresponding theme words: PEAR, FRUIT, BANANA, APPLE, etc.

Need a hint?

• Find non-theme words to get hints.
• For every three non-theme words you find, you earn a hint.
