United Airlines Passenger With ‘Severe Airborne Peanut Allergy’ Flabbergasted at Crew’s Refusal To Accomodate Medical Request, but People Are Divided

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 11:29am

Boarding a flight usually involves scanning your ticket, stowing your carry‑on, and settling in with the hope of a smooth journey ahead. But for some travelers, there’s another layer of preparation: communicating a serious health concern. Recently, a United Airlines passenger shared her experience asking for a simple accommodation related to her airborne peanut allergy, and the response has sparked a lively debate online about how airlines handle such situations.

In a video shared on social media, the traveler explained to a flight attendant that she lives with a severe peanut allergy that can be triggered by airborne exposure. She politely asked if communications could be made to passengers via a large announcement that she would need a "buffer zone." The crew told her they could not make that kind of announcement beforehand. She was told to email United about the issue.

The exchange highlights a tension many flyers live with quietly: balancing personal health needs with the realities of flying in a crowded cabin where policies and capacities vary from airline to airline.

View this post on Instagram The Reaction Online: A Mix of Empathy and Frustration

Once the video circulated, reactions poured in from travelers and members of the allergy community.

Some expressed empathy, noting that those with severe allergies live with constant vigilance during travel.

A disturbed Instagram user claimed "Cabin crew are primarily responsible for safety. That is their top priority—so refusing to carry out a safety-related, potentially life-saving action is deeply concerning."

Others pointed out that enforcing such accommodations in a shared space may be beyond what flight attendants can reasonably manage.

One commenter stated "I work for an airline and the airline I work for has buffer zone policy but would never be able to 'announce' it to the whole airplane. Pax would have PWNA on the boarding pass indicating pax has nut allergy and rows around would have been allocated as buffer zone. FAs would speak to other pax seated on the buffer area to inform they can't consume anything with nuts due to pax with allergy seated close to them, but are NOT allowed to make a public announcement like 'pax seated in 38F has nut allergy so don't eat nuts near that pax' due to the pax safety. If you think about it, a psycho can suddenly decide to kill you and start breathing nuts really close to you, or watch you suffer at least. I understand you have severe allergy but trust me, it's better not to announce it for YOUR safety."

United responded to the video in a comment reading "Hi, Mikayla. We are so sorry about this, and would like to look into it more closely. Please send us a DM with your confirmation number whenever you have a chance."

We reached out to the creator to see if that DM was sent and what the context was, but did not receive a reply.

This issue is not unique to United. Other passengers with nut allergies have shared stories of mixed experiences on various airlines, where requests for safety measures are met with cooperation on some flights and resistance on others. These accounts often highlight inconsistencies in airline approaches and underscore the difficulty crew have in juggling passenger needs.

It is important to note that the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology's position that airborne peanut dust doesn't pose an immediate threat.

" Since the issue was first studied in 2004, data have consistently shown that peanut dust does not become airborne nor does inhaling peanut butter vapors provoke a reaction, that skin contact with either form of peanut is unlikely to cause any reaction beyond local irritation that can be washed off, and lastly that surfaces (including hands) that become contaminated with peanut can be easily washed off. Let’s briefly summarize this evidence," it states.

Allergy Accommodations in the Sky: Policies and Limits

Air travel is a unique environment. Snacks and meals are served in a closed space, and once the cabin door shuts, passengers and crew alike are dependent on what’s already onboard. That makes allergy management particularly challenging.

United’s official policy allows passengers to notify flight attendants of food allergies, and in some cases crew will ask passengers seated nearby to be cautious about what they eat. However, United does not guarantee a nut‑free environment and flight crews typically do not make cabin‑wide announcements about individual allergy concerns. Detailed summary charts of airline policies show that United’s accommodation procedures do not include routine allergic passenger notifications for all flyers.

Related: Passenger Baffled by Bizarre Carry-On Situation but Not Everyone Is on His Side

This means that while airlines may take steps to minimize risk, such as not serving peanuts during a flight, they cannot ensure that no passenger brings their own snacks aboard. The Federal Aviation Administration has also noted that allergen‑free cabins cannot be guaranteed, as passengers often bring food onboard themselves.

But this does not make the debate any less emotional for those affected. Peanut allergies can be life‑threatening. Just a few particles of airborne allergen can trigger a reaction in highly sensitive individuals, leading to symptoms ranging from hives and swelling to anaphylaxis, a severe and potentially fatal response.

Tips for Travelers With Severe Allergies

As someone who travels often and has friends with serious allergies, I’ve learned that preparation is key. For travelers with life‑threatening allergy concerns, here are a few practical steps that can improve peace of mind:

  • Notify the airline well before travel about your allergy when you book your ticket. Many carriers allow this through special assistance request forms.
  • Inform gate agents and flight attendants in person early during boarding so they know your needs.
  • Carry necessary medication on your person and ensure it is easily accessible throughout the flight.
  • Consider a buffer zone by asking if you can pre‑board or be seated away from areas where food is consumed.
  • Bring your own snacks in case cabin options are not safe for you.

None of these strategies guarantee a risk‑free flight, but they can help you feel more in control in an environment where so many variables are out of your hands.

A Broader Conversation About Inclusive Travel

This incident is sparking thoughtful discussion not just about airline policy, but about how travel can be more inclusive for people living with invisible conditions. For every commenter who sees the request as unreasonable, there’s someone else for whom a simple accommodation could mean the difference between a routine flight and a medical emergency.

Travel is meant to expand horizons, not amplify stress about basic safety. As flyers, we ask a lot of ourselves to get from Point A to Point B. The more we understand each other’s needs, the better equipped our shared spaces will be for everyone.

Ina Garten Just Announced a New Cookbook—and It Might Be Her Most Relatable Yet

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 11:25am

Dinner parties always sound like a great idea until you're juggling five recipes, timing everything down to the minute and realizing you haven't actually enjoyed a single second of hosting. That's exactly why this announcement of an Ina Garten cookbook feels so refreshing. It hints at a shift away from complicated cooking and toward something a lot more doable—especially for anyone who loves to host but doesn't want to spend the entire night in the kitchen.

Beloved Food Network icon Ina Garten is officially back with a brand-new cookbook, and fans already have a date to mark on their calendars. After a four-year gap since her last release, the esteemed Barefoot Contessa is introducing Simply Ina, a collection focused on approachable, streamlined recipes that don't sacrifice flavor.

A Cookbook Built for Real Life View this post on Instagram

In her announcement, Garten shared exactly what inspired the project—and why it feels so different from what many home cooks are used to. "It's been four years since my last cookbook, and I've been working on something new that I can finally tell you about!" she wrote. "My next cookbook is called SIMPLY INA, and I have had so much fun testing the recipes."

The focus this time around is simplicity, but not in a boring or basic way. Garten made it clear that creating dishes that are both easy and delicious takes real thought. "It's not easy to make something simple and delicious," she explained, adding that the goal is to help people "spend more time with your guests."

Instead of complicated prep or hard-to-find ingredients, the recipes in this new book are designed to fit into real routines—whether that means fewer steps, make-ahead options or meals that come together without stress.

Why Fans Are Already Excited

For longtime fans, this cookbook hits a sweet spot. Garten has always been known for elegant but approachable cooking, and this feels like a natural evolution of that style. It also arrives at a time when more people are leaning into low-effort, high-reward meals at home.

The concept of simple cooking means different things to different people, and Garten leans into that flexibility. Some recipes may focus on minimal ingredients, while others might emphasize easy prep or one-bowl methods. The common thread is that they're designed to make cooking feel less overwhelming and more enjoyable.

Simply Ina is set to hit shelves on October 20, and it's already available for pre-order. If early reactions are any indication, it's shaping up to be one of the most relatable cookbooks she's released yet—especially for home cooks who want great food without the stress.

Costco Bakery Shoppers Are Calling This New Spring-Inspired Pie Their 'Least Favorite Ever'

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 11:15am

Costco's bakery is leaning into spring with its new lemon custard pie—a massive, over four-pound dessert filled with silky citrus custard and topped with dollops of whipped cream. But while the seasonal release looks like a showstopper, shopper reactions online suggest it may be one of the warehouse's more divisive sweets in recent memory.

On paper, the pie has plenty going for it. Early descriptions highlight its "rich, creamy" texture, buttery crust and crowd-friendly size, making it an easy pick for gatherings like Easter or spring parties. Some shoppers even seemed instantly sold, with one commenting they were ready to "eat it in the parking lot," while another called it "an absolute must try."

Costco Shoppers Say the New Lemon Custard Pie Misses the Mark View this post on Instagram

When I first read about the pie, I was immediately intrigued. I am a huge fan of lemon desserts, and was expecting a bright, citrusy lemon custard with sweet whipped cream and a perfectly flaky pie crust. And Costco's bakery items, especially its lemon ones (I'm looking at you, lemon meringue cheesecake), are generally a massive win. But after reading the reviews of the new lemon custard pie, it seems spending $18.99 on the dessert may not be worth it.

What Costco Fans Think About the Lemon Custard Pie

After the initial excitement, once people actually started tasting it, the tone was not what you'd expect based on the description and Costco's reputation for stellar baked goods. A common complaint? The lemon flavor just isn't bold enough. One reviewer said the pie is "barely lemon," while another noted they expected something "much tangier." Others echoed that sentiment, describing it as more of a generic custard dessert than a true citrus-forward pie.

Texture has also been a sticking point for some. One blunt social media review criticized the filling, calling it "barely any lemon" and the topping "cheap whip," while another said the custard leaned toward "over-baked." Even more moderate takes weren't exactly glowing—one reviewer rated it highly but still admitted, "I wouldn't buy this again."

Related: The 5 Most Memorable 'Cake Wars' Winners: Where Are They Now?

A Few Positive Remarks from Costco Loyalists

Still, it's not all negative. A handful of shoppers appreciate the pie precisely because it's not too tart. "It's really good… I think it's good that it's not that lemony," one person shared, suggesting the dessert may appeal more to those who prefer sweeter, milder flavors. Others praised the smooth consistency, calling the custard "silky" and easy to slice.

That split reaction lines up with broader feedback—fans of bright, punchy lemon desserts may find it disappointing, while those who prefer a creamier, sweeter profile could enjoy it.

In the end, Costco's lemon custard pie seems to fall into a rare category for the retailer—a bakery item that's generating as much criticism as praise. For some shoppers, it's a refreshing spring treat. For others, it's a swing and a miss.

Martha Stewart’s New Restaurant Features $300 Wall Decor That 'Looks Like $30,000'

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 11:05am

If there's anyone who focuses on the small details, it's Martha Stewart.

The businesswoman and interior design expert just opened a stunning new location of The Bedford by Martha Stewart, which already has a location in Las Vegas, at Foxwoods Resort Casino in Connecticut. Parade was lucky enough to attend the grand opening along with Martha Stewart herself, who shared a few details about how she created the special event dining room at the restaurant — on a budget!

The Bedford by Martha Stewart Features Gorgeous Custom Millwork View this post on Instagram

When designing the new Connecticut location of The Bedford, Stewart took inspiration from her own 1925 country farmhouse, located in Bedford, N.Y. — and the parallels are evident.

For one thing, the unique green walls in The Green Room at The Bedford by Martha Stewart were designed to look just like the walls in the Sunken Green Parlor in Stewart's Winter House.

At The Bedford, the wood walls are outfitted with custom millwork that was "painted this beautiful green, which comes from Kyoto green tea in Japan," Stewart explained at the event. They were then covered with an overlay of faux bois (French for false wood), a glaze that, when applied with a faux bois tool (aka a wood rocker tool), creates a beautiful wood grain pattern.

On The Bedford's green walls are an array of artfully-hung, gold-outlined plates, which actually started as simple Wedgwood drabware plates, according to the Martha Stewartwebsite.

"Those were our ordinary line of China," Stewart explained at the event. After her designer Kevin Sharkey obtained the white plates, he painted them a shade of drab and then outlined them in gold.

"They look like $30,000, and they were only like $300," Stewart said. "You can sort of fake it, if you're very clever."

The Green Room in The Bedford by Martha Stewart Has Fake Windows View this post on Instagram

According to Martha Stewart website, some of the windows in The Green Room are actually screens, which play real footage taken on Stewart's Bedford property. This is pretty much the closest experience a fan can get to having dinner at Martha Stewart's actual house.

The Bedford by Martha Stewart is open for breakfast and dinner (be sure to make a dinner reservation) seven days a week, with added lunch on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

After ‘The Bachelorette’ Cancellation, Bachelor Nation Rallies Around a New Pick

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 10:49am

In the wake of the dramatic cancellation of ABC's The Bachelorette season starring Taylor Frankie Paul, some franchise alums and fans are wistfully sharing who they would have liked to see as the lead.

The network decision to choose Paul was always a controversial one. Now, with new legal allegations involving Paul emerging, ABC has decided not to air the season that has already been fully filmed.

Bachelor Nation alum Jill Chin, who has popped up on Bachelor Mansion Takeover, Bachelor in Paradise, and The Bachelor over the years, took to TikTok to reveal who she would have chosen. A lot of fans agree with her, and have been suggesting this person for a couple of years now.

On March 19, as The Bachelorette cancellation news spread, Chin shared a video gushing over Olympic rugby player and Dancing with the Stars alum Ilona Maher.

Related: Ilona Maher Looks 'Red Hot' in Leather Minidress and Heels

Chin began, "You know who is the RIGHT choice for The Bachelorette? You wanna know who I wanted as The Bachelorette, who never would never would have done any of this?"

She then pointed to a photo of Maher behind her and added, "This queen right here."

"An Ilona Maher season would have SLAYED," Chin declared.

Maher was a breakout star in the last Winter Olympics, winning a bronze medal in Women's Rugby. She then went on to compete on Dancing with the Stars, landing in second place.

Based on the responses in the comment section of Chin's post, The Bachelorette fans would have fully embraced that opportunity. Some pointed out they have been asking for this for a long time already, and others demand that the network make it happen.

"SOMEONE MAKE THIS HAPPEN," one fan wrote.

Another added, "WE ASKED AND THEY IGNORED US!"

"This would be so healthy for young girls to see this queen omg," read an additional response.

A handful of people noted that they don't regularly watch the show, but would if Maher were handing out roses.

One commenter gushed, "Never have I ever watched the Bachelorette but the speed at which I'd sit my butt down in my couch to watch her season..."

Maher has been asked about the possibility in the past, and she suggested she'd be open to it. Fans have been rallying to see it happen ever since the Olympics and Dancing with the Stars.

Alas, it's never come to fruition.

In a Reddit thread about a year ago, many fans of The Bachelorette noted they'd love to see Maher as the lead. However, quite a few added sentiments suggesting, "She deserves so much better."

An even older Reddit thread on the topic, from about two years ago, had someone comment, "Protect her at all costs! Don't let her be subjected to the toxicity of this franchise!"

Right now, it is unknown what ABC will do next in terms of the franchise. They chose Paul for an early season of The Bachelorette, skipping The Bachelor entirely, and now they've decided they can't air it.

Will The Bachelorette ever return? Should this be the end of the Bachelor Nation era? Who would you want to see cast next?

Iconic Frontman of Alternative Rock Band, With Two Grammy Awards, Turns 50 Today

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 10:28am

The early 2000s saw some of the biggest nu-metal, alternative, heavy metal, and hard rock bands that defined a generation of fans. Leading one of the era's biggest names was lead singer and frontman Chester Bennington of Linkin Park, who would have celebrated his 50th birthday today, March 20.

Bennington was a singer-songwriter born in Phoenix, Arizona, who also fronted the bands Grey Daze, Dead by Sunrise, and Stone Temple Pilots at various points in his career. Linkin Park ended up being his biggest career success, with the band having formed out of Agoura Hills, California, in 1996.

It was originally formed by friends and band members Mike Shinoda, Rob Bourdon, and Brad Delson. They later recruited Joe Hahn, Dave "Phoenix" Farrell, and Mark Wakefield, but failure to secure a record deal led Wakefield to leave the band. Soon, Bennington was the frontrunner among the auditions and would become Linkin Park's lead vocalist.

Linkin Park started with a heavy metal and hip hop sound before becoming largely known as an alternative rock and nu metal band. They released their debut album Hybrid Theory in 2000 during the peak of the nu metal scene and dominated the charts with tracks like  "One Step Closer", "Crawling", and "In the End." Their following albums, Meteora and Minutes to Midnight, became hits and cemented Linkin Park as one of the best-selling music acts.

Their popularity led them to win two Grammy Awards, seven American Music Awards, four Billboard Music Awards, four MTV Video Music Awards, 10 MTV Europe Music Awards, and three World Music Awards. Bennington has been tagged multiple times as one of the greatest rock vocalists of his generation.

Related: ’60s Music Legend Ranked ‘Greatest Rock Lead Singer’ of All Time

Despite the band's success, Bennington struggled with alcohol, substance abuse, and depression most of his life. He also experienced sexual abuse at a young age by an older male friend, but only revealed the truth to his father years later and never pressed charges. Throughout his time in Linkin Park, Bennington had multiple health issues and relapses.

On July 20, 2017, Bennington was found dead in his home in Palos Verdes Estates, California. He was 41, and authorities ruled his death a suicide by hanging. Following the news of his death, Linkin Park canceled their tour and held his funeral on July 29. Bennington's death also led Linkin Park to take a long hiatus before announcing their return in 2024 with new co-lead vocalist Emily Armstrong.

Linkin Park posted a photo of Bennington on their Instagram to celebrate the singer's birthday. They captioned it, "Happy Birthday, Chester."

Rare Western Waterfall Has Only Appeared 4 Times in 15 Years and It’s Finally Back— Here’s How to Catch It Before Its Gone

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 10:19am

There are waterfalls you plan for, and then there are waterfalls you chase. At Gunlock State Park, the latter is exactly the point. Here, the landscape does not promise spectacle. It withholds it. For years at a time. And then, almost suddenly, it delivers.

Known as Gunlock Falls, this phenomenon has only appeared a handful of times over the past 15 years, making each flow feel less like a seasonal event and more like a fleeting natural performance.

As Corey Cram, associate general manager with the Washington County Water Conservancy District, explained to KUTV, “Gunlock will fill and spill only like two or three out of every 10 years. It does give a false sense of how well we’re doing in the river system because this was a result of big precipitation events that don’t do us that much in the watershed.”

Recent reporting from Travel + Leisure confirms the falls are flowing again in 2026, drawing travelers eager to witness something that might vanish just as quickly as it arrived.

I find something deeply compelling about that uncertainty. You cannot plan it too far ahead. You have to pay attention, stay flexible, and sometimes just go.

Subscribe to our newsletter and get awesome stories like this delivered straight to your inbox!

Why Gunlock Falls Is So Rare

Unlike traditional waterfalls fed by steady rivers, Gunlock Falls exists only under very specific conditions. It is not even technically permanent.

The phenomenon occurs when the reservoir at Gunlock State Park fills beyond capacity, typically after a strong winter snowpack followed by rapid spring melt. When that happens, water spills over the dam and cascades down red sandstone cliffs, creating dozens of temporary waterfalls that ripple across the rock face.

Related: Sandwiched Between Nashville and Knoxville Is a Charming Tennessee Town With Antique Shops, Waterfall Hikes, and Southern Comfort Food

Most years, that moment never comes. Drought conditions or lighter snow seasons leave the cliffs completely dry. According to Utah State Parks, the falls generally appear in early to mid spring when conditions align, but there is never a guarantee. That unpredictability is exactly what gives Gunlock Falls its reputation. It is not something you casually visit. It is something you catch at the right moment.

How to See Gunlock Falls Before It Disappears

Timing matters more here than almost anywhere else. Late winter through spring offers the best chance, especially between February and May when snowmelt is strongest. Even then, the window can be brief. Water levels can drop quickly, and the falls may disappear within weeks.

Located about 15 miles from St. George, the park is easy to access, with a short walk from the parking area leading to sweeping views of the falls. When flowing, the scene feels almost surreal. Water fans across warm red rock, creating a contrast that feels distinctly Southern Utah. If I were planning a visit, I would go early or later in the day. Not just for better light, but for a quieter experience. Once word spreads, crowds follow.

Quick Tips for Visiting Gunlock Falls
  • Check snowpack and reservoir levels before you go.
  • Visit early morning or near sunset for fewer crowds.
  • Wear shoes with good grip as rocks can be slippery.
  • Stay on designated viewing areas for safety.
  • Bring water and sun protection since shade is limited.
  • Expect limited amenities and plan accordingly.
What Else to See at Gunlock State Park

Even without the falls, Gunlock State Park offers a quieter, less crowded version of Utah’s iconic landscapes. The reservoir itself is calm and scenic, perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding, or simply sitting along the shoreline. In warmer months, it becomes a peaceful escape compared to more trafficked parks in the region.

Short hiking areas and open desert terrain surround the water, offering panoramic views and space to explore. When the falls are active, the park feels electric. When they are not, it feels expansive and still, like a place waiting for its next transformation.

Fuel your wanderlust with our top travel stories—join our newsletter today.

A Different Kind of Travel Mindset

Gunlock Falls is not about certainty. It is about awareness. In a time when most trips are mapped out down to the minute, this experience asks something different of travelers. Pay attention to nature. Watch for the right conditions. Be ready to pivot.

And that is what makes it memorable. A waterfall that appears only a few times in years is not just a destination. It is a reminder that some of the best travel moments are the ones you cannot fully plan, only recognize when they arrive.

'Project Hail Mary' Review: Ryan Gosling Delivers a Stellar, Emotion-Driven Space Epic

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 10:14am

Ryan Gosling is one of the few actors in the world right now who has the capability of portraying any character effortlessly, and in his latest film, Project Hail Mary, he does exactly that. Not only does he portray a nuanced character, but he also makes the story feel deeply personal, pulling the audience into an emotional, awe-inspiring journey.

Some films pull you in with noise and scale, and then there are films like Project Hail Mary that quietly grab your attention and never let go. Directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the premise of the film is rather simple: one man waking up alone in space, confused, scared, and with no idea how he got there. That man is Ryland Grace, played by Ryan Gosling, and from the very first moment, the movie doesn't shy away from making you feel his loneliness.

A Lone Mission That Slowly Becomes Something More

The story builds slowly. Initially, it feels like a mystery. Why is he here? What is his mission? Why is he the only one alive? As he slowly starts connecting the dots, the film opens up into something much bigger. It is revealed that Earth is in danger, and the sun itself is dying because of a strange microorganism that feeds on energy. Pretty simple, right? And even though we might not have seen this specific theme in previous space movies, the plot sounds like something that we have seen before. However, Project Hail Mary doesn't take the easy route and tells a story that has never been explored in such an exciting manner.

What makes the storytelling work is how simple it feels, even when the science gets heavy. The film never rushes, and it lets the audience sit with Ryland as he figures things out step by step. You learn with him and become a part of his journey. That's what makes it engaging; you are not just watching the story, you are a part of the process.

And just when you think this is going to be a serious, lonely survival story, the film shifts its gears and gives you something surprising. It introduces an unexpected companion. Without giving too much away, this part completely changes the tone of the film. What started as isolation turns into connection, and honestly, that’s where the film truly shines. It becomes less about saving the world and more about understanding each other. There’s humor too—very natural, never forced. A lot of it comes from Gosling himself, who plays Ryland as a normal guy thrown into an impossible situation. He’s not a superhero. He panics, he jokes, he doubts himself. That makes everything feel real.

One of the strongest aspects of the film is how it handles its non-human elements. Instead of relying purely on CGI, there’s a strong use of practical effects and puppetry, which gives a surprising amount of life and personality to the film. It never feels fake, and that adds a lot of emotional weight to the narrative.

'Project Hail Mary' is a Visual Spectacle Carried by Emotion and Ryan Gosling's Extraordinary Performance

Visually, Project Hail Mary is stunning, but not in the loud, over-the-top way many space films are. It’s beautiful in a controlled, thoughtful way. The film’s cinematography, handled by Greig Fraser, gives everything a grounded feel. There are moments where the visuals alone tell the story, especially when Ryland is floating in silence, surrounded by nothing but darkness. The background score by Daniel Pemberton is outstanding. The score never overpowers the film. It quietly supports it. Sometimes it’s hopeful, sometimes tense, but always in control. The composer did a phenomenal job in knowing when to stay silent, which turns out to be really important for a sci-fi film like this.

When it comes to performances, Ryan Gosling is the heart and soul of Project Hail Mary. This might be one of his most honest portrayals on the big screen. He carries most of the film on his own, and that is not easy. There are several sequences where he is the only person on screen, and yet you never feel bored. He makes you care about him and the situation. But the most impressive part of his performance is how natural he feels. There's no doubt that he is one of the biggest stars on the planet, but there is no "movie star" energy here.

The actor plays Ryland like someone you might actually know, a teacher and a regular person who got pulled into something way bigger than himself. This simplicity is what makes the performance so brilliant.

Ryan Gosling and Sandra Huller in 'Project Hail Mary' (Credits: Amazon MGM Studios)

Amazon MGM Studios

Sandra Huller is equally amazing in her portrayal of Eva Stratt, the no-nonsense global leader. She brings an unexpected empathy and warmth to a character who is often portrayed as cold and purely rational. There's one scene in the film that will make you fall in love with her, and although I wanted to write about it, I wouldn't want to take away the pleasure from you of seeing it on the big screen. Even in limited screen time, she brings authority and seriousness to the narrative.

By the time the film reaches its final act, it’s no longer just about science or space. It becomes emotional in a quiet way. The choices Ryland has to make feel personal, and the ending stays with you because it feels earned, not dramatic for the sake of it. Project Hail Mary is not just another space movie. It’s a survival story, yes, but more importantly, it’s about connection, curiosity, and hope. It mixes science with emotion in a way that feels easy to understand and deeply engaging.

This is the kind of film that stays with you, not because it tries too hard, but because it feels real even when it’s set light-years away. It is one of the very rare films where everything works together. The writing, direction, visuals, and acting all move in the same direction. Nothing feels out of place. It’s rare to see a big-budget film that feels this personal.

A true blockbuster with a story that touches your soul.

Rating: 9.5/10

Live Possum Tries To Blend in With Stuffed Animals in Airport Gift Shop

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 10:11am

Airports tend to follow a script. You check in, shuffle through security, browse a gift shop you did not plan to enter, and wait. It is a rhythm most travelers know by heart.

But at Hobart Airport, that rhythm was briefly interrupted by something far more memorable than a delayed boarding call. Tucked among rows of plush toys in a terminal gift shop, a very real animal had quietly made itself at home. A brushtail possum, native to Australia, had climbed into a display of stuffed animals and settled in so convincingly that it took a second glance to notice anything was off.

It was not the kind of thing you expect to see between a rack of postcards and a shelf of souvenirs. And yet, there it was. Alive. Blinking. Watching.

Don't miss a beat—subscribe now for trending travel updates and destination guides.

A Possum Blending in, Almost Perfectly @news.com.au

Staff were confused at how the possum snuck into the store, but speculated that it could be due to “redevelopment” works. #animals #tasmania #animal

The discovery reportedly began when a traveler noticed something unusual about one of the toys. It moved. On closer inspection, the “toy” turned out to be a living possum, nestled comfortably among its plush counterparts.

Store staff quickly gathered, and what could have been a stressful situation instead turned into a moment of shared curiosity. According to store manager Liam Bloomfield, the possum appeared calm and completely at ease.

“It looked like he was pretty comfortable,” he told People, describing the scene as travelers gathered, phones out, documenting the moment.

Wildlife authorities were eventually called in to safely remove the animal. The possum was unharmed and later released back into a more suitable environment, away from baggage claims and boarding gates.

Related: Which Adorable Spring Baby Animal You Are, Based on Your Birth Date

How Did a Possum End Up Inside an Airport?

That question is part of what makes the story so compelling. Airports are highly controlled environments, not exactly easy for wildlife to access.

Officials believe the possum likely entered through construction areas connected to ongoing upgrades at the terminal. It is a plausible explanation, especially in regions like Tasmania where wildlife and urban spaces often overlap.

According to coverage by Associated Press, authorities also noted what did not happen. There was no indication the animal had been brought in by a traveler, which would have required passing through security screening. Instead, this was more likely a case of quiet curiosity from a nocturnal animal that wandered a little too far.

And then, perhaps instinctively, it chose the safest-looking place available. A shelf filled with soft, familiar shapes.

Why Moments Like This Stick With Travelers

For anyone who travels often, airports can blur together. Same layouts, same stores, same in-between feeling of not quite being anywhere. That is why moments like this linger.

They reintroduce a sense of place. Tasmania is known for its unique wildlife, and even inside the terminal, that identity made itself known in the most unexpected way. Reports note that Hobart Airport has seen similar surprises before, from snakes to a baby echidna, reinforcing just how closely nature and infrastructure coexist there.

More than anything, it is a reminder to stay present. I think about how easy it is to move through an airport on autopilot, headphones in, eyes down. And yet, a moment like this rewards the traveler who looks up.

The possum is gone now, the shelves restocked, the routine restored. But for those who saw it, the trip likely became something more than just a journey from one place to another. Sometimes, the most memorable part of travel is not the destination. It is the story you never expected to find waiting for you at the gate.

Disney’s Most Popular Affordable Resort Has a Whole New Look for 2026

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 10:10am

If you’ve ever stayed at a Disney "Value" resort, you know the deal: you’re trading square footage for proximity to the parks and a price tag that doesn't break the bank. But Disney’s Pop Century Resort—a fan-favorite for its direct access to the Disney Skylineris currently debuting a top-to-bottom refresh that makes "budget" feel a lot more like "boutique." The resort has just unveiled a reimagined lobby, a sleek pool bar update and a sophisticated new look for its guest rooms.

The transformation starts the second you walk through the front doors. The new lobby has swapped its older, darker tones for a bright, energetic atmosphere filled with floor-to-ceiling pop culture art from the 1950s through the 90s.

Beyond the aesthetics, the space is now much more functional for the modern traveler. As project manager Luis Sanchez shared, “One of our biggest goals was making the lobby feel brighter, more vibrant and more functional for Guests. We looked at everything from the lighting to the seating layout so the space feels more open and comfortable.” This includes new communal tables equipped for charging devices while you wait for your room text.

Upstairs, the guest rooms have received a "clean and comfy" glow-up that leans into layered textures and a brighter palette. Imagineers replaced the older carpets with warm, wood-toned flooring and added geometric insets in shades of blue, gray, and orange. While the look is more modern, the Disney whimsy is still there if you look closely. The new patterned upholstery features “subtle touches—including Hidden Mickeys in the chair fabric—that keep the space feeling unmistakably Disney while still clean, comfortable and functional.”

Even the outdoor hangouts got some love. Petals Pool Bar at the Hippy Dippy Pool now features updated tilework and digital menu boards to make mid-day ordering a breeze.

When you combine these updates with the resort’s existing perks—like early theme park entry and the high-flying Skyliner ride to EPCOT and Hollywood Studios—it’s clear that Pop Century is staking its claim as the best value on property. It’s a sophisticated, fresh chapter for the decades-themed resort, proving that you can stay in the heart of the magic without sacrificing style.

Joseph Duggar Makes First Court Appearance Since Child Molestation Arrest

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 10:02am

Joseph Duggar has made his first appearance in court since being arrested on Wednesday, Mar. 18.

On Friday, Mar. 20, the 31-year-old former reality star made a virtual appearance in court to address his extradition to Florida.

Joseph did not enter a plea and waived his right to an extradition hearing, meaning he agreed to be transferred to Florida to face charges. He is charged with Lewd and Lascivious Behavior, involving unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

According to People, the hearing started at 8:30 a.m. CT and lasted approximately one minute. Joseph was reportedly wearing a gray and white prison jumpsuit.

No family members were present during the court hearing.

According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office Facebook, investigators were contacted on Mar. 18, by a police detective in Tontitown, Arkansas—where the Duggar family lives—about a report of past sexual abuse.

During a forensic interview, the 14-year-old victim disclosed incidents involving Duggar during a family vacation in Panama City Beach, Florida, when she was 9.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim reported that Duggar “repeatedly asked her to sit on his lap, sit beside him on a couch, and cover them with a blanket.” Duggar then allegedly made inappropriate contact with the victim and rubbed his hands on her thighs.

The victim said that Duggar eventually apologized, and that the alleged misconduct stopped after the apology.

Investigators discovered the victim’s father confronted Duggar about these incidents on Mar. 17, 2026, with Duggar admitting his actions to the victim’s father and to Tontitown Detectives.

Duggar was arrested out of state and faces charges of Lewd and Lascivious Behavior, including Molestation of a victim under 12 and conduct by a person 18 or older.

This is not the first arrest for the Duggar family, either. Duggar’s older brother, Josh Duggar, was convicted of possessing child sexual abuse material in 2021 and sentenced to over 12 years in prison.

Iconic ‘80s Action Star Enjoys Some Family Time In These New Pics

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 10:00am

Arnold Schwarzenegger may have made a name for himself in iconic 1980s action movies like The Terminator, Predator, Conan the Barbarian and Commando (and of course, the Danny DeVito comedy Twins). But now the actor and former governor of California is enjoying some well-deserved family time with daughter Katherine Schwarzenegger, ex-wife Maria Shriver and the rest of their clan.

View this post on Instagram

Schwarzenegger’s eldest daughter recently revealed some candid pics of the group’s snow-filled vacation. In a March 16th Instagram post, the 36-year-old author and wife to Guardians of the Galaxy actor Chris Prattwrote, “Fam ski club.” The mom of three (Lyla, age 5, Eloise, age 3, and Ford, age 1) and stepmom to one (Pratt has a 13-year-old son, Jack, with his ex-wife, actress Anna Faris), her hubby, her three siblings, and parents all look like they’re having a ball on the slopes.

Along with a svelte selfie of herself in a trendy red snowsuit, Katherine also posted photos of the Schwarzenegger sibs in full ski gear, famous dad Arnold enjoying the winter sun, mom Maria dressed for the snow, and one of her cute kiddos (hidden by a hat) on a horse-drawn carriage.

The family’s fans may have enjoyed the montage just as much as the Schwarzeneggers enjoyed their snowy getaway. Comments included well wishes such as, “Love seeing you happy and living your best life, Katherine,” and, “Beautiful fam! Love a family who enjoys the sun and snow.”

View this post on Instagram

In a separate, earlier post, Katherine adds a few more photos of the Schwarzeneggers’ adventures, writing, “The mountains were calling.” Even though her famous celebrity dad doesn’t make an appearance in this series, she does include a new pic of her toddler (from the back) and a sweet snowman, mom, Maria, looking fashionable as ever on the slopes, and some of the area’s gorgeous scenery. Adoring comments like, “Aww, special trip!” and “Such an incredible family” poured in.

View this post on Instagram

While these are the newest family photos of the ‘80s action star’s family, Arnold Schwarzenegger also shows up in plenty of his daughter’s other Instagram posts. In February, Katherine added a carousel featuring Arnold doing something less movie-star-like and more grandpa-ish. Instead of showing off his muscles or battling world-dominating AI machines, he’s calmly seated at a table drawing pictures with his granddaughters. And as much as his admirers have enjoyed watching him on the big screen, we’re absolutely obsessed with the star’s aww-dorably sweet family side.

Joseph Duggar Arrest Video Emerges As He Waives Extradition

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 9:51am

New details about the arrest of former 19 Kids and Counting star Joseph Duggar have emerged.

Duggar was arrested on March 18 in Arkansas and he faces allegations of lewd and lascivious behavior in acts involving unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

After Duggar's arrest in Washington County, Arkansas, 5 News published a video of intake process via their YouTube page.

Duggar was wearing a baseball cap, a gray sweatshirt, black pants with a belt, and white sneakers as he was walked into the jail. His hands were initially handcuffed behind his back as the intake process began.

Much of the intake video shows Duggar sitting on a bench waiting as an officer works through the process. His hat, belt, and shoes were placed into a holding container, and after seemingly needing to read and sign something, Duggar was also instructed to remove his wedding ring.

He struggled slightly getting the ring off, but he handed that over as well as what appeared to perhaps be his phone.

At the end of the video, Duggar was instructed to walk with the officer down a hallway that took him out of view of the camera. Throughout the process, Duggar was calm and mostly quiet.

Joseph Duggar Is Awaiting Extradition to Florida

According to People, Duggar waived his right to an extradition hearing. He made his first court appearance via Zoom, and the media outlet noted that neither his wife, Kendra Caldwell Duggar, or any of his other family members were present.

Duggar wore a gray and white prison jumpsuit for the brief hearing, People detailed, and his hair was "slicked back." The hearing lasted only about one minute.

The alleged offense took place in Panama City, Florida, in 2020. Duggar is accused of "unlawful sexual activity" with a girl who was 9 years old at the time. The Bay County Sheriff's Office is expected to file charges.

People added that Duggar may also face additional charges in Arkansas. The media outlet indicated that according to Corey Jenison, the Tontitown Police Department Chief, "there is still an open investigation being conducted."

A statement posted by the Bay County Sheriff's Office on Facebook on March 18 indicated that the victim's father confronted Duggar about the incidents on March 17. "Duggar admitted his actions to the victim's father and to Tontitown Detectives," the statement noted.

Monk Fruit vs. Stevia: Which One's Better for You?

Fri, 03/20/2026 - 9:50am

Cutting back on sugar may be one of your long-standing health goals. But if you have a sweet tooth, this can be easier said than done. However, a calorie-free, plant-based sweetener, such as stevia or monk fruit, could offer a happy medium.

Using monk fruit or stevia instead of sugar or other sweeteners that are high in calories can help reduce the overall calories that you’re consuming, according to the Michigan State University Center for Research on Ingredient Safety. Studies suggest that these non-nutritive sweeteners are more in demand, as people are more concerned about diabetes, obesity and metabolic disorders—all health issues that may accompany a diet high in sugar.

“I recommend both monk fruit and stevia as sugar substitutes because they offer similar advantages over regular sugar while remaining safe and practical for most people,” says Laura Isaacson, RD, CDCES, SCOWM, FAND, CD, a senior director of clinical dietetics at Vida Health. Along with helping reduce your calorie intake, these sweeteners aren’t metabolized like sugar and generally don’t raise your blood sugar, she says.

Both are available in different forms, such as liquids, granules and powders, so you can use them in beverages, cooking and baking, Isaacson says. But they do taste differently than sugar, adds Dr. Charlotte Cervantes, Ph.D., CFS, RD,associate professor and Allied Health, Kinesiology, & Sport Sciences and Nutrition Program director at Southeast Missouri State University

“I would recommend experimenting with both to see if you have a flavor preference,” Dr. Cervantes says.

Here’s what to know about the health profiles of monk fruit and stevia, and which one dietitians consider to be better for you.

What To Know About Monk Fruit

Moussa81/Getty Images

Monk fruit is a small green melon derived from the Siraitia grosvenorii plant that has been used for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine for colds, asthma and digestive problems.

Related: ‘I’m an Endocrinologist—This Popular Smoothie Ingredient Sends Blood Sugar Soaring’

Its sweetness comes from a compound called mogrosides, which is 100 to 250 times sweeter than table sugar. The sweetener is produced by extracting and concentrating the fruit’s mogrosides.

Mogrosides are not metabolized like regular sugar, so they don’t raise blood sugar, Isaacson says. These substances may also offer antioxidant benefits, helping reduce oxidative stress in the body.

Monk fruit may also support metabolic health. But Dr. Cervantes says more research is needed on its direct health benefits.

“Presently, I would say the benefit of monk fruit sweeteners is similar to that of other non-nutritive sweeteners: it can displace added sugars in the diet while still delivering food and beverage products that have appealing sensory qualities,” she notes.

What To Know About Stevia

Stevia is derived from the leaves of the Stevia rebaudiana plant and has been used medicinally and as a sweetener in South America for generations. It’s made by extracting and steeping steviol glycosides from the plant’s crushed leaves.

Related: ‘I’m an Endocrinologist—This Is the Worst Juice for Blood Sugar Spikes’

Stevia is about 200 to 400 times as sweet as sugar, according to the Food and Drug Administration.

So it can also help reduce calorie intake when it’s used in place of sugar, and it doesn’t raise blood sugar, Isaacson says. It also contains antioxidants

Some research suggests stevia may help prevent and manage some chronic diseases, such as kidney disease. But Dr. Cervantes notes that research is limited.

How Do Monk Fruit and Stevia Compare?

Stevia and monk fruit have similar health profiles, Isaacson says. For instance, both:

  • Are natural, plant-derived sweeteners
  • Have zero calories
  • Do not raise blood sugar, making them suitable options for people with diabetes or those following a low-carbohydrate diet
  • Can help reduce overall calorie intake when they’re used to replace traditional sugar
  • Offer antioxidant properties
  • Are considered safe when consumed in moderate amounts

However, it’s important to note that the sweeteners are typically chemically processed and may be blended with other ingredients, like dextrose or maltodextrin, according to CRIS

In most instances, side effects are minimal when stevia or monk fruit is consumed in appropriate amounts, she adds.

However, stevia may affect gut health. And, both stevia and monk fruit are sometimes blended with other sweeteners or fillers, like erythritol, dextrose, maltodextrin or inulin, Isaacson says.

“Sugar alcohols like erythritol may cause digestive discomfort in some individuals, while dextrose and maltodextrin can contribute small amounts of carbohydrates,” she explains.

Monk Fruit vs. Stevia: Which One Is Better for You?

“I do not consider one to be more health-promoting,” Dr. Cervantes says. “They are both great options for individuals who would like to explore using non-nutritive sweeteners.”

Both stevia and monk fruit are “safe and effective sugar substitutes,” Isaacson says.

Which do you like more?  “There is no strong evidence that one is significantly superior to the other for blood sugar control or weight management,” Isaacson says. “Ultimately, the best choice is the one you enjoy and can use consistently as part of a balanced diet.”
