Few moments in music history are as haunting as "The Day the Music Died."

On Feb. 3, 1959, a plane carrying rising rock-and-roll stars Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper crashed shortly after takeoff in Iowa, killing everyone on board and shocking the music world.

What many fans don't realize is that another future music legend was supposed to be on that flight.

That artist was Waylon Jennings, who was born on June 15, 1937, in Littlefield, Texas.

At the time, Jennings was a 21-year-old bass player performing as part of Holly's touring band during the grueling Winter Dance Party tour. After a series of freezing bus rides across the Midwest, Holly decided to charter a small plane so some of the musicians could travel more comfortably to the next stop.

Jennings had originally been slated to fly.

Instead, he gave up his seat to fellow musician J.P. Richardson, who was suffering from the flu and feeling ill after days on the road.

The decision likely saved Jennings' life.

In later interviews, Jennings recalled one final exchange with Holly before the flight.

Holly jokingly told him, "I hope your old bus freezes up." Jennings replied, "Well, I hope your old plane crashes."

When news of the crash arrived hours later, Jennings was devastated and carried guilt over the conversation for years.

Had he boarded the plane, country music history might have looked very different.

Over the following decades, Jennings became one of the defining voices of the outlaw country movement. Alongside artists such as Willie Nelson, he helped reshape country music in the 1970s by challenging Nashville's traditional system and embracing a more independent sound.

His 1976 album Wanted! The Outlaws, recorded with Nelson, 93, Jessi Colter and Tompall Glaser, became the first country album certified platinum.

Jennings later joined Nelson, Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson in the country supergroup The Highwaymen and introduced himself to a new generation as the narrator of the television series The Dukes of Hazzard.

Jennings died in 2002 at age 64, but his legacy remains one of the most influential in country music. And it all came after a split-second decision that kept him off one of the most tragic flights in music history.

UFC fighter Josh Hokit defeated Derrick Lewis for the heavyweight title at the White House's UFC Freedom 250 event on June 14, but the internet is calling the shocking tirade that followed "disgraceful."

The rest of the speech was equally inciting. "You know what? F--k this speech, Shout out to [President Donald] Trump for having the balls to put some s--t like this on," he began. "And if I'm going to say anything, there's only one person more incredible than the Incredible Hok, and that's my lord and savior Jesus Christ."

He also added an odd jab at fellow fighter Alex Pereira, saying, "Now listen, Alex Pereira, I wanna shove-uh on your momma."

The internet was shocked by the insulting diatribe, with one person posting, "A disgraceful spectacle through and through." Another added, "This is an American event and to slander our American leaders I never understood," while a third wrote, "On White House grounds too that s--t isn’t even funny."

Others were frustrated to see Rogan laughing in the background and to have commentators not acknowledge the insult. "The crazy part was no apology from UFC or the announcers saying they don’t condone that behavior. SMH," said one commenter. Another added, "This is NOT OKAY! People better speak up!"

Just one day earlier, Hokit seemingly vomited at the official weigh in press conference for the event.

He wobbled up to the scale looking dizzy and mumbled "So what, maybe I was drinking last night."

"But who wouldn't be?" he continued, and then, in reference to Lewis, added, "I have a giant black man that wants to knock me out."

Hokit, who goes by "The Incredible Hok," is known for his crazy antics and offensive persona in the sport, and this is far from his first controversy.

Following a victory at UFC 324 in January 2026, Hokit sparked backlash when he ended a post-fight interview by claiming that WNBA star Brittney Griner "is a man," which UFC CEO Dana White later said he did not support.

Earlier in his UFC career, his trash-talking antics led to confrontations with fellow fighters including Pereira, Ilia Topuria, and Jiří Procházka. His behavior at press conferences and weigh-ins often include interrupting other fighters and staging bizarre stunts, and he's drawn criticism from both peers and fans of the sport.

Zach and Kayda’s night in the Hideaway will take place in episode 12, premiering on June 15, 2026, at 9 PM ET / 8 PM CST.

The preview for tomorrow night saw Zach and Kayda spend time in the hideaway, starting outside in the hot tub, sharing a bottle of champagne, before making their way inside.

In the bedroom, they open the “play time” closet, filled with adult games and toys, and spend the night in bed as the camera pans to a neon sign that reads “stay wild.”

More than three decades after his death, Freddie Mercury continues to set the standard for rock frontmen.

The legendary Queen vocalist has been ranked the No. 1 greatest rock singer of all time by WorldIcons, topping a list celebrating the artists who helped define the genre over the past seven decades. Few artists fit that description better than Mercury.

Blessed with an extraordinary vocal range, theatrical stage presence and unmatched ability to command an audience, Mercury helped transform Queen into one of the biggest rock bands in history. Throughout the 1970s and '80s, the group released an extraordinary run of classics, including "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Somebody to Love," "We Are the Champions," "Don't Stop Me Now" and "Crazy Little Thing Called Love."

Mercury's songwriting was equally influential. He penned several of Queen's signature hits, most notably "Bohemian Rhapsody," the groundbreaking six-minute rock opera that challenged conventional radio formats and has since become one of the most celebrated songs in music history.

One of the defining moments of Mercury's career came on July 13, 1985, when Queen took the stage at Live Aid.

At the time, the band's commercial momentum had slowed, particularly in the United States, and many wondered whether Queen's biggest years were behind them. They even went as far as to take a much-needed break from the spotlight.

"We were all forming a sort of a rut," Mercury said in an interview. "I wanted to get out of this last 10 years of what we were doing. It was so routine. It was like, go to the studio, do an album, go out on the road, go round the world and flog it to death, and by the time you came back it was time to do another album."

Luckily, a call from Bob Geldof came just in time. The band rallied, and their electrifying 21-minute performance at London's Wembley Stadium changed their entire trajectory almost instantly. Mercury's command of the crowd, particularly during his famous call-and-response vocal improvisation, has since become one of the most iconic moments in rock history.

Many critics and fans credit the performance with revitalizing Queen's career, introducing the band to a new generation and cementing Mercury's reputation as perhaps the greatest live performer rock music has ever seen.

Tragically, Mercury's life was cut short just six years later.

On Nov. 23, 1991, he publicly revealed that he had been diagnosed with AIDS. Less than 24 hours later, on Nov. 24, he died from complications related to the disease at the age of 45. His death shocked the music world and helped bring unprecedented public attention to the global AIDS crisis.

Even after his passing, Mercury's influence has only continued to grow. Queen's music remains a fixture on radio and streaming platforms, while younger generations continue discovering his performances through documentaries, social media and the blockbuster 2018 film Bohemian Rhapsody.

Being named the greatest rock singer of all time is yet another reminder of Mercury's extraordinary legacy.

"On stage I just click in," Mercury told Melody Maker in 1974. "To be honest, performing comes quite easily really. It doesn't take me that much. [...] I tell you, I feel the after-effects of touring. We finished the British tour last night and I feel as if I've done a marathon every night. I've got bruises everywhere. Because it's the music that matters, you've got to make sure there are key people around you, taking care of you."

Decades after Freddie Mercury last stepped on stage, his voice, charisma and fearless artistry continue to inspire countless musicians and set a benchmark that few have ever matched.

Zac Brown is standing by his decision to perform at the UFC Freedom 250 at the White House.

The Zac Brown Band frontman confirmed on The Pat McAfee Show earlier this week that he would perform the national anthem at the event on the South Lawn of the White House on Sunday, June 14, alongside the Marine Band.

Ahead of the band's performance, Brown said he had no concerns about performing for President Donald Trump or the potential controversy his appearance could spark.

"I’m there for the troops, man," Brown said. "I’m there to honor America. This is patriotism, not politics for me. I mean, f--k all the division. I don’t believe in that. I love this country. I love all the people that have sacrificed so that I can live my American dream and that everyone that lives here gets a chance to do that if they work hard and make the right decisions. So it doesn’t have a place in politics for me."

The singer added that approximately 8,000 service members would be attending the event, noting he felt "honored" as a UFC fan to be awarded this opportunity. The president, Vice President JD Vance, and other top Trump administration officials also ended up being in attendance.

"I’m so excited for this weekend," Brown added. "And it’s history, man, getting to be part of American history, man. Having the first sporting event that’s on the lawn of the White House. I mean, it’s an honor."

The mixed martial arts event was held in honor of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States on July 4, 2026. UFC Freedom 250 also fell on Flag Day, as well as the president’s 80th birthday.

The sporting event has been highly controversial, with two Virginians filing a lawsuit in an effort to stop the White House fights, arguing that the UFC was unlawfully granted “unfettered access to the White House … to stage a private, for-profit sports event, with all the promotional and branding opportunities that accompany such access.”

However, on Friday, June 12, a judge declined to block the event after the president’s Justice Department defended the administration’s plans, arguing that the plaintiffs filed their case too late and failed to provide a legitimate reason to justify stopping the event.

Damn Yankees, the rock band composed of highly influential members, continues to be celebrated as one of the best supergroups despite disbanding in the late '90s.

The '80s supergroup, composed of original members frontman Tommy Shaw from Styx, bassist Jack Blades from the glam metal band Night Ranger, lead guitarist Ted Nugent from The Amboy Dukes and drummer Michael Cartellone, was included by WatchMojo as one of its top 20 greatest bands of all time that feature a lineup of already established music acts.

Joining Cream, Traveling Wilburys, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, the progressive rock band Asia and the iconic Led Zeppelin as the top five supergroups, Damn Yankees landed at No. 16 on the list.

Launched in 1989, the quartet was born out of a "crazy idea," according to legendary A&R executive John Kalodner.

"I just had this idea – I think I had dinner with Jack Blades or maybe Tommy Shaw and for some reason, I got in this mindset," he told Ultimate Classic Rock. "I knew Ted Nugent well and he wasn’t really doing anything. Night Ranger wasn’t really doing anything, and Tommy Shaw was kind of in and out with Styx. So I came up with this crazy idea to have the three of them have a supergroup."

Initially, Nugent thought that forming a supergroup "sounded like a stupid idea," as Kalodner recalled, but eventually went with it after being convinced.

"So it was kind of a fantasy that I had to put these people together," the iconic producer shared, adding, "None of them even knew it or had even thought about it."

The powerhouse arena rock band achieved massive commercial success after releasing its self-titled debut album.

The certified multi-platinum album features 10 tracks, including the power ballad "High Enough," which peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, alongside "Coming of Age," "Come Again" and "Runaway."

Two years later, they released their second album, Don't Tread, which earned a Gold certification in the United States.

Apart from their beloved hits, Damn Yankees went on back-to-back tours from 1990 to 1993.

The first was an 18-month run for The Damn Yankees Tour in celebration of their debut album.

The supergroup invited notable bands like Bad Company, Poison and Jackyl as special guests.

Another major tour was The Uprising Tour in 1993, which supported Don't Tread.

Unfortunately, the band's momentum slowed following the rise of grunge rock.

At this point, the original members of Damn Yankees were also returning to their original bands, prompting the group's disbandment.

However, before officially calling it quits, the quartet received $1 million from the record label Warner Bros.

In the mid '90s, the label was changing its priorities following the shift in musical trends toward grunge and alternative rock.

As a result, they were offered $1 million to shelve plans for a third album.

"We're like, 'Really? OK, we'll just take the check. Why not?' That was how it was because Damn Yankees had sold so many records and we were so recouped, so in our contract the next thing was like 'we get a million bucks to do an album,' and they just paid us the million dollars not to do the record,” Blades shared as mentioned by UCR in a separate report, adding, “That's how much nobody wanted anything to do with that era and style of music."

"Who's that girl?" You mean, the one who's been topping the charts for decades and still churning out hits?

That would be Madonna, who is still keeping quite busy in the music, including a single featuring red-hot Sabrina Carpenter off her highly anticipated upcoming album, Confessions II (out July 26).

And exactly 39 years ago — on June 14, 1987 — Madonna's renowned "Who's That Girl World Tour" launched at the Osaka Stadium in Osaka, Japan. Why is that significant? Well, only that the pop icon's run thereafter would become the highest-grossing tour ever at that time, raking in over $20 million.

In more recent news, when it comes to concert etiquette, Madonna, 67, has a stern warning for her fans — having made a bold comment during the premiere of Confessions II – The Film at New York City’s Beacon Theatre on June 5. Following the screening, Madonna participated in a Q&A alongside directing duo TORSO, moderated by Anderson Cooper, where the conversation eventually turned to how audiences have changed over the years.

The "Borderline" singer said that when she performed with Carpenter, 27, at Coachella, she was struck by the number of people viewing the experience through their phones. So when Cooper, 59, asked whether she had any final thoughts to leave the audience with, Madonna didn’t hesitate: “Put your f--king phones down and connect.”

The rocker said Morgane "did an amazing job" on the folky new track, which is available now on Spotify. The sweet song is about reconnecting with an old lover and appreciating love over material things with lyrics like "So I'll give it my best shot and open up my soul, maybe you'll listen, maybe not, but I need to fill this hole with more than gold." When Morgane dropped the news on her own Instagram, fans quickly took to the comments with their excitement. "Featuring WHO!!!!!" wrote one shocked follower, while another added, "Ohhhhhh dang! That is so awesome!" and a third said, "Yessssss girl!!!!"

Chris may be more famous, but Morgane is a musician in her own right having built an impressive career as a singer, songwriter, and producer in country music despite never releasing a solo album.

After beginning as a staff songwriter in Nashville, she penned songs recorded by huge names like Carrie Underwood, LeAnn Rimes, Trisha Yearwood, and Reba McEntire. She also established herself as one of country music’s most sought-after harmony vocalists, contributing to many artists' albums and becoming an essential creative partner in Chris' career.

A resurfaced interview clip of Oliver Tree is going viral after his unexpected death.

The musician, whose legal name was Oliver Tree Nickell, died at the age of 32 on Sunday, June 14 following a helicopter crash in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In an April appearance on the Zach Sang Show podcast back in April, Tree revealed that he planned to donate all his money after he died.

“I don’t believe that any of the wealth or the things that get made from [music] is mine,” Tree said. “And so when I die, my will is set up that when I pass, my family, no one’s gonna get a penny. If I have a wife or kids or anything, they’re not getting a f---ing penny. I’ll get my kids through college—that’s the agreement—but they’re not gonna be a silver spoon. They’re taken care of, because my dad worked on some stuff in the 2000s.”

Tree then said his plan was to redirect his money toward supporting artists through his foundation, the Dr. Oliver Trees Art Grants for Baby Geniuses.

“It’s set up so that basically the interest generated from my music will take mostly that,” he said. “But there’s also room for other money, because when I die, my art will continue to have residuals and probably be worth more than it is now. People will finally appreciate my stupid f---ing videos and my stupid f---ing songs. That’s when people appreciate you, when you’re not there anymore.”

“I want it to go to the actual physical making of art,” he continued. “You’re allowed to physically hire people to help produce stuff, you’re allowed to rent gear and equipment to make things. You’re allowed to use the budget to physically produce stuff. But that’s the belief for me. And I have a basically a committee that I’ve set up when I pass it—and I plan to do it while I’m alive—where basically everyone will vote on who the money goes to each year, and a few different people, and it will be in the spirit of the Oliver Tree Project. So collaborators I made music or film or art with when I was alive will get to make the decision of where the money goes."

Tree was best known for his hit songs like “Life Goes On” and “Miss You.” His 2020 album Ugly Is Beautiful reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums and Alternative Albums charts, and he received Kids’ Choice Award nominations for Favorite Social Music Star in both 2022 and 2023.

Tree is survived by his parents, Jesse Louis Nickell III and Christine Marie Begin, and older brother Caleb.

Although Gladiator I and II have made over $900 million combined, Russell Crowe said that the sequel film “failed” to ignite audiences in the same way as the original, because it lacked a “moral core,” according to Deadline.

In a recent interview at the Taormina Film Festival, Crowe recalled that he kept pushing back as the studio tried to give sex scenes to his character, Maximus, in the first film. However, Crowe didn’t think it would work for the story.

"This is a story about a man who’s avenging the death of his wife and his child,” Crowe said. “There cannot be a moment on that journey where he stops and has sex with somebody. It doesn’t make any sense… that destroys the journey.”

Crowe said that they kept sending him letters, but he stuck to his “guns.” They agreed that this was “the moral core of the film.”

“On the surface, Gladiator is a movie for men, but if it was a movie for men, it would be about revenge,” Crowe said. “But it’s not about revenge. It’s a movie for women because it’s about vengeance, and this is a subtle difference, but it is a difference. I needed the character to stay on that track.”

“So for them, in a second movie to destroy that moral center, it’s very interesting because the second movie barely took the same box office that the first movie took but that’s 20 years later, and when you apply how much of a change there’s been on the value of a dollar, they failed, and they failed because they didn’t understand why it was successful, because it had a moral core,” Crowe continued. 

Crowe spoke at the Taormina Film Festival to receive the International Achievement Award. His new action thriller, Bear Country, also premiered at the festival, which stars Crowe as a nightclub owner. It was adapted from the 2010 Thomas Perry novel Strip and is set for international release on August 26.

Plenty of hit songs have been misunderstood by listeners over the years, but they don't usually get banned as a result. That's what happened to Foreigner, though, when they released "Dirty White Boy" as the lead single from their 1979 album Head Games.

Written by Lou Gramm and Mick Jones, "Dirty White Boy" tells the story of a young man who's pretty much up to no good:

I've been in trouble since I don't know when
I'm in trouble now
And I know somehow
I'll find trouble again

In a 2009 interview with Songfacts, Jones said the "dirty white boy" who inspired the lyrics was actually Elvis Presley.

"For me, it was Elvis Presley. To me, he always was that dirty white boy who changed the shape of music completely," Jones said. "It was talking about the kind of heritage that he left, and I think that had an effect on all the musicians that came after, like Mick Jagger — he was also a dirty white boy. Elvis paved the way for all that."

Jones' musical tribute to the King was lost on some people, however, who thought the song was racist. As Gramm told Smashing Interviews magazine in 2013, "Dirty White Boy" was the main reason why the album Head Games was banned on the radio in Boston and a "whole slew of stations in the Bible Belt." Years earlier, in a 1979 interview with The Miami Herald, Gramm called "Dirty White Boy" a "song about an irresponsible kid, not a racist song."

Banned or not, "Dirty White Boy" was still a success, peaking at #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and winning raves from critics at the time. In his review of Head Games for Rolling Stone, David Fricke praised "Dirty White Boy" as one of the album's best songs.

"Powered by guitarist-songwriter Mick Jones' jackhammer riffing and Dennis Elliott's ham-fisted drumming, 'Dirty White Boy,' 'Seventeen' and the presumably tongue-in-cheek misogynous chant, 'Women,' are refreshingly free of the pomp-art, heavy-metal flourishes that made the band its fortune," Fricke wrote.

Of course, not everybody was a fan. In a review for The Charlotte News, Chris Jones called "Dirty White Boy" the "weakest song this band has ever recorded."

"Foreigner even had the nerve to include a lyric sheet with it," Jones wrote, adding, "You'll be happy to know the words 'Dirty White Boy' are repeated "no less than 20 times over the course of just over three-and-a-half minutes."

Toronto Tempo forward Isabelle "Izzy" Harrison got ejected from their June 14 game against the Atlanta Dream after committing what was ruled a flagrant foul 2 against Angel Reese, leading to a brief scuffle between the two teams.

The game was marked by several tense moments between the two WNBA powerhouses throughout the evening. Reese was seen knocking the ball out of Harrison's hands between plays and nudging her with her shoulder on the court, while Harrison scored on Reese and celebrated with the popular "too small" taunt.

The tension reached a fever pitch in the third quarter when Reese was setting up for a shot and Harrison seemingly wrapped both arms around her from behind and tackled her, leaving both of them on the ground.

Players from both teams rushed toward the duo to separate them as refs blew the whistle. A clearly frustrated Reese walked off the court as Harrison was ejected for the flagrant foul 2.

Some fans thought the call was too harsh, with one X user writing, "Reese pushed back into her when she was reaching for the ball. Terrible call, while another added, "Don't get me wrong, how is that a flagrant foul? Sure she went over her to grab the ball foul. Reese looks to me either lost her footing or decided to play this up more to get the foul."

Others agreed with the judgment, with one writing, "I definitely thought she was gonna get a flagrant 1 when I seen it live, was initially surprised by the flagrant 2, but then rewatched and I think it was a fair call." Watch the video of the moment for yourself:

The scuffle came as a surprise to fans, as Reese and Harrison actually have a friendly history.

The two were teammates on the Chicago Sky during the 2024 season and frequently supported one another publicly during that time. Harrison even defended Reese and fellow rookie Kamilla Cardoso when the Sky's preseason opener wasn't televised, prompting Reese to respond, “Our vets don’t play 'bout us!”

When Reese suffered a season-ending wrist injury that year, Harrison said the team wanted to "have her back" and “play for” her, and Reese later praised Harrison after a strong performance, calling her “Queen.”

Although Harrison later spoke critically about the the Sky organization, calling it "shaky" and "[giving] a year 1 vibe" after leaving for the New York Liberty, her comments were directed at the franchise rather than Reese personally. Still, fans suspect there may have been some resentment between them in the past.

"Funny part is they were teammates, Angel got drafted and took her starting spot. Izzy had to go to the benc," said one commenter on X, while another added, "And these two women were teammates in Chicago in 2024 so you know she hated Angel Reese during that season."

Lindsay Hubbard has some choice words for her Summer House co-star West Wilson.

Wilson and Amanda Batula have been under intense scrutiny from the cast since revealing their romantic relationship in March, much to the dismay of Batula’s ex-husband, Kyle Cooke, and former friend Ciara Miller, who previously dated Wilson in 2023.

While Hubbard, Miller, Cooke, and their Summer House castmates have all weighed in on the controversial coupling, Hubbard escalated the tension further with a Threads post shared on the evening of Sunday, June 14. She made the post after Wilson said on his podcast that he was rooting for a Game 6 in the NBA Finals because it would've aired at the same time as the bonus Summer House episode on Tuesday.

"Couple of tings," the reality star began her post. "1) West Wilson: you are trash. Trying to get people to not watch OUR show that iiiii brought YOU on, you should move immediately. 2) I haven’t seen Tuesday’s Aftermath episode, but i feel it in my bones it is GOOD GOOD. (Even though we know some people didn’t listen, still good!)"

Hubbard also shared that Summer House's spinoff, In the City, is "just heating up" and that the reunion went so well, there may be two parts. Before signing off, she also shared she'll be on ex-fiancée Carl Radke's podcast on Tuesday ahead of Summer House's final episode, Summer House: The Aftermath.

The last episode of season 10 will feature one-on-one conversations recorded after the reunion and will air on June 16 at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.

"I'm, like, ‘Oh, I cannot stand this changing body'... All of a sudden I'm bloating, and I'm definitely not in control. I can't just lose five pounds."

"I was doing very unhealthy things [to get thinner], and I was working my body more than I was feeding it to keep up with the strain," she explained. "But that was so unhealthy. Who cannot look at themselves in the mirror?”
