From Mariah Carey and Taylor Swift to legendary icons like the Rolling Stones and Elvis Presley, countless artists have topped the Billboard charts—but only one holds the record for the most No. 1 singles and albums.

Billboard released its list of which music acts have the most Billboard 200 and Hot 100 No.1s in history combined, with the winner at the very top, none other than the Beatles. Based on the charts to July 18, 2026, they concluded that the legendary rock band has surpassed other hit icons like Michael Jackson, Madonna, and even band memberPaul McCartney/Wings.

Since their start in Liverpool in 1960, the Beatles have been reported to have had 20 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart during their career. As well as 19 No. 1 albums on the Billboard 200 chart. In retrospect, the band released 12-13 albums during their run, with Billboard including a few hit soundtracks in their list.

Their list of No. 1 albums includes the very beginning with Meet the Beatles! and all the way up until Anthology 3. The last album was released in 1996 as a compilation and catalogs tracks from the final two years of the band, from the initial sessions for The White Album to sessions from Let It Be and Abbey Road in the late '60s to the start of 1970.

Their hit albums also include soundtracks to what many consider to be some of the best rock movies of all time, like A Hard Day's Night and Help! The soundtracks for the TV film Magical Mystery Tour and the documentary Let It Be are also included.

Die-hard Beatles fans can likely guess which No.1 hit singles are included on Billboard's list. After the release of their first-ever single, "Love Me Do," the Beatles would land their first chart-topping hit with  “I Want To Hold Your Hand” in 1963. The track and others would mark the British Invasion of the American music industry.

That same year, the Beatles would land their second No. 1 hit with “She Loves You,” and the Beatles would become one of the most famous rock bands in the world. A month after the Beatles announced their breakup, their Let It Be album was released and would yield their last No. 1 hit song, “For You Blue." The track was written by George Harrison as a love song to his wife, Patti Boyd, and became one of his most successful tracks as a solo artist and as a Beatles member.

Billboard's list ranks Swift at No. 2 behind the rock band with the most Hot 100 No. 1 tracks and No.1 albums. She holds the spot with 15 each on both charts.

Horror movies have dominated the box office this year, with original films like Backroomsand Obsession leading the charge and Hollywood taking a chance on young, Gen Z directors and new talent. While Backrooms was directed by 20-year-old Kane Parsons, Obsession is another example of this, with the film directed by 26-year-old Curry Barker.

Now, with films having shorter theatrical windows, they’re releasing earlier and earlier on streaming platforms. Just weeks ago, on June 30, Obsession was released on digital platforms such as Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV for purchase ($24.99) or rent ($19.99). Now, if you have a Peacock subscription, you can watch it for free! Obsession will be released on Peacock on Friday, July 17, just in time for a Friday night horror flick! 

Barker’s debut film follows Bear (portrayed by Michael Johnston), an awkward, shy and cowardly 20-something-year-old, who’s too scared to confess his feelings for Nikki (portrayed by Indie Navarrette). When he finds a one-wish willow toy in a trinket shop, he decides to break it, wishing for Nikki to “love him more than anyone else in the world.”  Nikki suddenly becomes dangerously obsessed, making their relationship fatal for everyone involved. 

After its release, this film proved itself successful, grossing over $427 million on a $750,00 budget. Plus, it is officially the highest-grossing original horror movie of this century, surpassing Sinners. In fact, the film was so popular that its theatrical window was extended. Originally intended for an 18-day window, the film ran in theaters for over 50 days, from May 15 to mid-July, with showtimes still available in select theaters.

So, what does this mean for the future of horror and Hollywood? Moviegoers certainly want to see more original films with fresh faces, produced and written by younger filmmakers. “I wish they [studios] understood that we’re tired of slop. We want good movies back. People are still hungry for movies that are original without some big IP, as long as the story is good,” Barker told The Hollywood Reporter. 

With Obsession being a standout film this year, it has already received several Critics' Choice Awards nominations for Best Horror Film, Best Actress in a Horror Film (Indie Navarrette), Best Actor in a Horror Film and Best Villain in a Horror Film (Michael Johnston). 

There’s even buzz about the Oscars, with fans hoping the film receives a few nominations. While horror traditionally hasn’t been taken seriously at the Oscars, with Jordan Peele’s Us receiving zero nominations and Get Out taking home only one Academy Award out of four nominations, horror fans still have hope. This year, Ryan Coogler's Sinners swept the Academy Awards, receiving four wins out of 16 nominations, while Zach Cregger's Weapons received one award and Guillermo del Toro's Frankensteinreceived three. So, who knows? Obsession may sweep the 2027 Academy Awards. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Barker teases the Oscars campaign, saying, “There’s going to be an awards campaign. I’m not sure exactly what that entails. I’m not trying to get my hopes up about it and stay focused on what I’m doing next.”

As for Obsession 2? Barker also shares those details with The Hollywood Reporter. "I don’t want to go straight into Obsession 2. I have such a cool idea for it that I won’t say. I’m not saying it has to be five, six years from now. But I think people would be just as excited for it if it came a little down the road. It’s a whirlwind and I’m trying to figure it out,” he says.

In 1977, Fleetwood Mac released their album Rumours and became one of the biggest bands on the planet.

Lindsey Buckingham's response? Spend $1 million making something their own record label didn't understand—something completely different.

The result was Tusk, released in October 1979. A double album. Twenty songs. Recorded in their own studio space at Village Recorder in Los Angeles over the course of a year. It sounded nothing like Rumours.

"If we had tried to make Rumours II, it would have been the beginning of what others expected us to do," Buckingham toldEntertainment Weekly. "By subverting that expectation, it allowed me to say, 'This is what's important to me.'"

What was important to him was Talking Heads and the new wave movement. Talking Heads were doing something Buckingham understood at his core: making music that was genuinely strange while impossible to ignore. He wanted to bring that energy to Fleetwood Mac. Nobody else in the band was quite as sure.

The title track captured exactly how far he was willing to go. On June 4, 1979, 112 members of the USC Trojan Marching Band showed up at an empty Dodger Stadium and recorded the song with Fleetwood Mac, creating one of the earliest major rock music videos ever filmed. It is one of the most unconventional things a mainstream rock band has ever done at the height of their commercial success. It’s also absolutely magnificent.

Tusk sold four million copies on release. Significant by any normal measure. Against Rumours, it felt like the floor had dropped out. The label was unhappy. Critics didn't quite know what to do with it. Some fans agreed.

Buckingham was unbothered.

Stevie Nicks had a difficult time supporting the new experimental direction. Those recording sessions were among the most difficult in the band's history. The creative partnership that had already survived the end of a romantic relationship was now pulling in opposite directions. Christine McVie was more open to where Buckingham was headed. That divide, between the two women who defined Fleetwood Mac's sound, made the Tusk sessions feel less like a band disagreement and more like a band starting to fall apart.

Buckingham pulled even harder. Eventually, he won.

Time has been kind to Tusk in ways the charts weren't. It's now widely considered one of Fleetwood Mac's best and most forward-thinking records, exactly the outcome Buckingham had been aiming for even if nobody else believed in him at the time.

"Not just the song 'Tusk,' but the album Tusk is probably my favorite album," he told Entertainment Weekly. "Not necessarily for the music, but for why we did it. It set me off on this alternative path that was a tightrope to walk between the big machine of Fleetwood Mac and the small machine of solo work that followed."

The solo work that followed covered decades. In February 2019, Buckingham underwent emergency open-heart surgery that damaged his vocal cords. His recovery took years, but he kept working anyway. His eighth solo album is currently one song away from being done.

The first fully authorized Fleetwood Mac documentary, directed by Frank Marshall for Apple Original Films, is also expected in 2026. It will feature new interviews with all four surviving core members, including Buckingham and Stevie Nicks.

Most significantly, Buckingham and Nicks, who stopped speaking after his dismissal from Fleetwood Mac in 2018, have found their way back to one another. They put out their pre-Mac album Buckingham Nicks again in 2025. In March 2026, Buckingham told Rolling Stone: "I believe with all my heart, it will translate to something good, and something wonderful, and something needed and something extremely appropriate."

The woman who found Tusk the hardest album to make and the man who pushed those musical limits are finding their way back to each other.

In January 2026, Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide," from the same era as Tusk, debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time at number 41, pulled there by its use in Stranger Things. A song from 1975 found a new audience fifty years later. The catalog is still alive.

Tusk cost over a million dollars, divided a band, and sold a fraction of what came before it. Lindsey Buckingham still considers it the best thing Fleetwood Mac ever did. Nearly fifty years on, he has a new album coming, a possible reunion with the woman who found it hardest to make, and a documentary that will tell the whole story.

The tightrope he described is still there.

Keeping up with this week’s trend, Groen finished DJ with a runaway lead over his opponent, racking up $38,000 opposed to Marin and Rizzuti’s $4,400 and $3,200, respectively. 

It also helped that Groen was one of the 2 contestants who answered FJ correctly, adding a whopping $22,067 wager to his daily winnings for a total of $60,067. Marin also answered correctly, with a wager of $2,001, for a second-place total of $6,401. Meanwhile, Rizzuti did not get it right, wagering $1,201 and dropping to a third-place total of $1,999. 

Groen will be back on Thursday for attempt number 11.

In May, director Matt Reeves revealed that Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan would be joining Robert Pattinson in the cast of The Batman: Part II. But despite the casting announcements and the film being in active production, it’s been delayed until 2028.

The Batman: Part II was originally set to release in theaters on Oct. 2, 2026. Warner Bros. first delayed it until Oct. 1, 2027, and now has pushed it to Feb. 18, 2028. The release date comes six years after the opening of Reeves’ The Batman in March 2022.

When the film was first delayed, DC Studios co-chief James Gunn explained that big-budget movies often have gaps between movies.

“To be fair, a 5-year gap or more is fairly common in sequels,” Gunn wrote on Threads. “7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, six years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3.”

The new release date was announced at the end of a camera test from The Batman: Part II that Reeves shared on Vimeo and Instagram. The clip shows Pattinson wearing the Batman cowl, turning to face the camera as police lights blink in the background and snow falls around Gotham. While fans were excited to see the new footage, most expressed disappointment with the 2028 release date.

“It was all good until I saw the date,” one fan commented.

“Why’d you delay it Matt. Explain yourself Matt,” another joked.

While plot details for The Batman: Part II remain under wraps, the film has been co-written by Reeves and Mattson Tomlin. The role of Johansson hasn’t been announced yet, but Stan confirmed that he will be playing Two-Face.

When speaking to Deadline at the Cannes Film Festival, Stan revealed that he will play the iconic Batman villain and will travel to London over the summer to work on the film.

“I’m excited, I’m nervous and trying to keep surprising myself,” Stan said when talking about working with the sequel’s hair and makeup team.

Mac McAnally is revered throughout Nashville as one of country music's most gifted songwriters, guitarists, producers, and performers, having spent nearly five decades shaping the sound of country music. The winner of a record 10 CMA Musician of the Year awards, McAnally hails from Red Bay, Alabama. From an early age, he displayed exceptional musical talent, mastering the piano as a child before picking up the guitar and beginning to write songs as a teenager.

After releasing his debut album in 1977, McAnally established himself as both a recording artist and one of country music's most sought-after songwriters, known for his thoughtful lyrics, memorable melodies, and remarkable musicianship.

Despite releasing numerous solo albums, it's his collaborations with Kenny Chesney, Jimmy Buffett, Alabama, Conway Twitty, Sawyer Brown, and many others for which he is best known.

Some of his best-known compositions include Alabama's "Old Flame" and "Back Where I Come From," which was written and originally recorded by McAnally before becoming a signature hit for Kenny Chesney. McAnally also recorded "Down the Road" before it became a No. 1 duet with Chesney, and he co-wrote "Southbound," later recorded by Sammy Kershaw and other artists.

McAnally also wrote Conway Twitty's "It's My Job" and Shenandoah's "Two Dozen Roses."

His songs have been recorded by a who's who of country music stars, including Reba McEntire, Ricky Skaggs, Hank Williams Jr., Toby Keith, and many more.

Mac McAnally remembers Jimmy Buffett in the circle 😌

Though McAnally has collaborated with many of Nashville's biggest names, one of the most significant chapters of his career began when he joined Jimmy Buffett's Coral Reefer Band in the 1990s, launching a prolific partnership that lasted for decades.

One of Buffett's closest collaborators, McAnally served as guitarist, vocalist, songwriter, producer, and musical director. Their partnership introduced McAnally's talents to an entirely new audience far beyond country music.

Following Buffett's passing in 2023, McAnally has continued performing with the Coral Reefer Band, helping preserve the "Margaritaville" singer's musical legacy while honoring the spirit of the live performances fans have come to love.

Few artists have earned the respect of their peers the way McAnally has. Unlike many performers who seek the spotlight, he has built his career through consistency, versatility, and exceptional musicianship.

Fans quickly took to social media to celebrate the music legend's birthday, with many thanking him for "keeping the party going" in honor of Jimmy Buffett.

At 69, McAnally remains an active and respected presence in country music. He continues to perform solo concerts, write new music, and tour with the Coral Reefer Band. More than four decades after launching his career, the quiet country legend continues to inspire audiences while leaving an indelible mark on the genre through some of its most enduring songs.

The limited-time offering starts at $14.99 for a large one-topping pizza, and fans are already jumping for joy at the news. Papa Johns took to Instagram to announce its return with a video of someone enjoying a slice of pepperoni pizza, dipping it into the brand’s iconic garlic sauce, and then showing that the slice in question was actually from the returning pie. They then tore the crust in half, showing a melty cheese pull with the caption, “making an EPIC comeback.” 

“The Pepperoni Stuffed Crust is coming back?” asked one commenter, as others wrote, “Stuffed crust?!??!” and “I cried.”

When Die Hard hit theaters 38 years ago today, it helped redefine the action genre. But the movie almost looked very different with another Hollywood legend in the lead.

It's hard to picture someone else playing the role of John McClane in Die Hard, but Bruce Willis wasn't actually the first choice for the role. When production of the film—which is based on Roderick Thorp's novel, Nothing Lasts Forever—began, it was none other than Frank Sinatra who was asked to play the lead.

At the time, Sinatra was 70-years-old and was still performing. However, when he was approached about doing the film, he declined. The reason? Reports indicate that Sinatra felt he was too old for the demanding action sequences.

Interestingly, Willis wasn't even the studio's second choice for the role, which was offered to several other actors before him.

"I think I was the 50th choice! They went to everybody," Willis joked to Entertainment Weeklyin 2007.

By November 1987, production had inked a deal—to the tune of $5 million—with Willis and was ready to bring Nothing Lasts Forever to the big screen. Eight months later, the film saw incredible success at the box office, grossing $143.6 million worldwide.

Willis would reprise his role four times over the course of his career. As for his favorite role, Willis told EW, "there was some discussion about whether or not McClane should cry or get choked up when he’s talking about saying goodbye to his wife. And I remember we did one take without and one with, and everybody liked the one where I got a bit choked up. I thought that was an interesting scene."

Die Hard is still considered a classic action film and has been named the "greatest action thriller" of all time.

Ian Somerhalder was riding a career high after having starred in The CW's hit series, The Vampire Diaries, but the actor admits that one TV show ended up ruining everything due to it being "unwatchable."

The supernatural teen drama was based on the best-selling series by L.J. Smith that rose to the ranks of equal popularity as Twilight during the 2000s. Somerhalder played the beloved role of bad-boy vampire Damon Salvatore alongside Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley for its eight-season run.

When The Vampire Diaries ended in 2017, the actors were on to new projects with weight behind their names. Somerhalder revealed on a recent episode of the Haley on the Go podcast that his next vampire series ended his career and pushed him to move away from Hollywood. The series in question? V Wars that released in 2019.

“I wanted to do V Wars because it was me, not as a vampire, it was me as a scientist,” the actor shared. “[We] shot the show, moved my whole family to Northern Ontario. Worked really hard on this thing for almost a year, and the show that got turned in wasn’t even watchable."

Believing the vampire series would go nowhere, Somerhalder admitted he fought to stop its release, and even offered Netflix their money back. He explained, "I said to the studio, ‘I don’t want to put my name on this. I’ll give you the money back. I’ll give you millions of dollars.’ And they were like, ‘What? What are you talking about?’”

Hoping to somehow salvage the 10-episode series, Netflix allowed Somerhalder and his producing partner to take creative control. The catch was that the streaming service wouldn't put in any more money, and the actor had to come up with $6 million to reshoot it. After 10 to 12 hours of redone footage and ending up in the hospital from being overworked, V Wars was still canceled.

“The execs were fighting, and someone quietly canceled the show. And the powers that be at Netflix were like, ‘It’s unfortunate. Yes, it shouldn’t have happened. We can’t go back, because it would set a precedent that would be terrible, so the show is done.'"

The experience with V Wars left a lasting impact on Somerhalder, and he vented to his wife that he couldn't see himself "working this hard" and having spent a year unpaid "for this executive who had issues in high school, so they want to exert power now, [to cancel it]."

In the end, the actor "pulled the plug. That was it. I walked away. These executives are bitching at each other, and I’m like, are you kidding me? Done. I’m out.”

Ever since 2019, Somerhalder has done little to no on-screen acting roles and instead devoted himself to business ventures. He co-owns the brand Brother's Bond Bourbon with Wesley and a supplement line. His wife, Twilight star Nikki Reed, once clarified that Somerhalder’s plans to stop appearing on screen are his own.

Reed also appeared in V Wars and followed her husband in stepping away from acting. Their busy schedule stopped her from appearing in new roles, but she admitted that she works 90 hours a week doing something she loves.

“We have three companies together and are raising a family. I don’t think we would have done it this way. It’s just sort of the way the cookie crumbled,” Somerhalder explained.

When fans think of Elvis Presley on the big screen, classics like Jailhouse Rock, Blue Hawaii and Viva Las Vegas usually come to mind.

But one of the King's most unusual film roles came in 1968's Live a Little, Love a Little. And some digging into Getty Images' archives resurfaced a production photo that proves just how different this movie was from the formula that defined so many of his Hollywood hits.

The rare image shows Presley in one of the film's more unexpected moments: standing in a shower as his character, photographer Greg Nolan, finds himself caught in another chaotic predicament. Opposite Presley is Michele Carey, who played free-spirited model Bernice, the woman who turns Greg's carefully ordered life upside down.

According to the original caption, "When photographer Greg (Elvis Presley) falls in love with model Bernice (Michele Carey), his life becomes truly complicated."

Released in October 1968, Live a Little, Love a Little arrived during a transitional period in Presley's career.

While he had spent much of the 1960s starring in lighthearted musical comedies, audiences' tastes were beginning to change.

That same year, Presley reignited his music career with his now-legendary NBC television special, often referred to as the "'68 Comeback Special," which reminded the world of the electrifying performer who had transformed popular music a decade earlier.

As a result, Live a Little, Love a Little is often overshadowed by the comeback that followed just weeks later.

Still, the film stands apart from many of Presley's other movies. Rather than centering on beaches, race cars or exotic vacations, it leaned into screwball comedy with a slightly more mature tone.

The movie also features one of Presley's best-loved late-'60s recordings, "A Little Less Conversation."

Although the song was only a modest hit upon its original release, it found a massive new audience decades later after a 2002 remix by Dutch DJ Junkie XL topped charts around the world and introduced the track to an entirely new generation.

While Live a Little, Love a Little never achieved the lasting popularity of Blue Hawaii or Viva Las Vegas, many Elvis fans have come to appreciate it as one of his more distinctive screen performances.

It's easy to think of Billy Joelas more of a storyteller than a musician in some ways. While there is no denying his endless pursuit of musical perfection, what people seem to really connect with him on are his everyman lyrics and relatable themes. Joel has created at least 25 huge hits on the Billboard Hot 100, each striking a cultural nerve.

Joel is held in high regard among his peers as well. Even a legendary Beatle has given Joel his dues.

“When I first heard Billy, it was like ‘Oh, wait a minute. He’s good. Who’s this?’,” Paul McCartney said in the HBO Max documentary, Billy Joel: And So It Goes about his song Just the Way You are. “You know, like you do, your ears prick up. The song that really made me know that that was happening was ‘Just the Way You Are.’ And where I get asked, ‘Is there a song that you wish you’d written?’ And I always … that’s the one I always say.”

While his originality and creativity are undeniable, that certainly doesn't mean he isn't influenced by the work of others. In fact, he once confessed that the tune of his iconic song "Movin' Out" was unconsciously influenced by another notable artist, Neil Sedaka, and his song "Laughter in the Rain."

He demonstrated his original tune on the piano for the charting hit, and compared it to the original source material, and the resemblance is uncanny—so much so that he said his drummer threw his sticks at him and told him flat out he ripped it off from Sedaka.

Fans of both Joel and Sedaka seemed to have the popular opinion that imitation is the highest form of flattery.

"Great minds think alike," quipped one fan.

"I mean of course he loved that song. Who wouldn’t," added another.

Sedaka is a force in his own right. He achieved three Hot 100 No. 1s, all of which he co-wrote. His first is the familiar song with “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do,” and also helped other countless artists climb the charts, like Captain & Tennille’s debut smash, “Love Will Keep Us Together.”

While "Movin' Out" is undoubtedly a great tune, it'd certainly be cool to hear it with "Laughter in the Rain's" upbeat rhythm in full.

Alec Baldwinrecently posted a tribute to fellow celeb Sam Neill. And while many of his fans felt the Instagram clip was a heartfelt homage, some critics slammed the actor’s choice of words. 

Baldwin shares, “I just want to come on here quickly and say how stricken I was to learn of the death of Sam Neill.” Even though the insta-memorial starts off on a seemingly sentimental note, Baldwin then moves into a bit of background on the film. 

Of course, Baldwin famously starred with Neill in the 1990 blockbuster hit. And while it might seem like he was just about to share memories of the time he spent filming the flick with Neill, the reflection goes in a very different direction. 

“That was probably my first big movie in terms of having a decent-sized role. Because I’d done Working Girl and Beetlejuice, and things like that where I had a smaller role. And I do Hunt for Red October, and…” If you’re thinking he’s going to wax poetic about Neill, you would be wrong. Instead, he says, “Yes, John was a great director. And one of the most exciting parts for me was to meet Tom Clancy. But the cast. I mean, I’ll never. I’ve had great casts, worked with great people. You know, Tony and Meryl, and so many other people, that I really, really admired. And do admire.” 

He continues, “And obviously Sean, Larry Ferguson, Scott Glenn, Tim Curry, um James Earl Jones, Peter Firth, Richard Jordan, Joss Ackland, Courtney Vance, Danny Davis, Fred Thompson, Jeffrey Jones, Ron Gutman, Stellan Skarsgard. And that’s just, you know, the more recognizable names….My god, my god.” 

And no, even after that lengthy who’s who of Hollywood celebs, he still doesn’t get to Neill, “What an experience that was. What an experience it was to do that movie with those people.”

After some nostalgic reflection on his interactions with other actors (again, not Neill), he finally gets back to the actor, adding, “My love to his family, my love to his family. Wow. Rest in peace.”

Yes, Baldwin does, in his own way, honor Neill. At least, in the beginning and end of the video. But critics noted the obvious holes in his tribute commenting, “Can you share any stories about Sam Neill? You didn’t say much about him”, “I kept waiting to hear some good things regarding Sam Neill. Not much of a tribute to Sam, but just a name mention. Do better Alec,” and “You didn’t say much about Sam Neill but good introspection about Red October.”

Others pointed out, “What an underwhelming tribute to Sam Neill”, “I’m sorry, I thought you were paying respects to Sam Neill; I didn’t realize it was all about you,”  and “If you’re going to pay tribute, Alec, do it with some conviction, not about you.” One commenter asked, “Was this post even about Sam?”

But it wasn’t all negative. Even though the clip was light on Neill content, some Baldwin fans seemed moved by the actor’s words, writing, “I love your passion”, “You are a brilliant actor and a heart of gold for your family and friends,”  and “Alec…you are an incredibly compassionate and humble human being. Thank you for honoring Sam Neill.” 

The iconic actor Sam Neill passed away on July 13 at the age of 78.

Ranch has had a major moment this summer, with international travelers who came to the United States for the World Cup singing the sauce’s praises on social media. Each packet costs $0.99 and can be sprinkled on top of wings, mixed into ranch dressing, or added to other foods–the sky is the limit, though we’d probably stick to pairing it with foods that already go well with ranch.

On August 18th, 1969, legendary guitarist and musician Jimi Hendrix took the stage at the Woodstock Music and Art Festival. Hendrix and his band had originally been booked to close Woodstock the previous night; however, due to scheduling issues, they wouldn't take the stage for over ten hours after they were supposed to. In Bethel, N.Y., on Max Yasgur’s alfalfa field, only roughly 30,000 to 40,000 people of the estimated half a million were watching when Hendrix came on at 8 AM.

However, that fraction of attendees was about to witness history.

Hendrix, alongside guitarist Larry Lee, musicians Juma Sultan and Jerry Velez, bassist Billy Cox, and drummer Mitch Mitchell, opened with playing Hendrix's hits "Fire," "Here My Train a Comin'," and "Foxy Lady." After which, Hendrix began freestyling on his own on his guitar. After multiple minutes had gone by, Hendrix began playing his own distorted version of "The Star-Spangled Banner."

The performance is absolutely iconic.

Many believed Hendrix was making a political statement about the Vietnam War and other issues in the United States by playing the national anthem; however, Hendrix was adamant that he was simply playing music and experimenting with his own interpretation.

Following "The Star-Spangled Banner," Hendrix and his band played more hits like "Purple Haze" and “Villanova Junction Blues" before wrapping up his two-hour set and the Woodstock festival as a whole with "Hey Joe."

Journalists and critics have credited Hendrix's performance as one that went down in cultural history. Bernard Collier said upon hearing the rendition, “Suddenly into my head stabbed this sound. It sounded exactly like rockets, missiles and bombs bursting in air. I’d never heard anything like that in my life.”  

What was a moment of improvisation and interpretation went on to solidify Hendrix as an artist and a pinnacle of the 60s. However, when asked about the performance, Hendrix remained ever humble and modest, saying:

"I’m an American so I played it. They used to make me sing it in school, so it was a flashback."

Beloved actress Nancy Olson has a plethora of professional accolades under her belt, but this week, she celebrated her own personal milestone — her 98th birthday.

Born on July 14, 1928 in Milwaukee, WI, Olson began her professional acting career in 1948, signing to Paramount Pictures after she was discovered by a talent scout while performing on stage at the University of California, Los Angeles.

Olson made her film debut in 1949 in Canadian Pacific before skyrocketing to stardom in 1950 following her leading role as Betty Schaefer in the classic film noir Sunset Boulevard. Her role earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Just 22 years old at the time, and despite losing out on the win, she was delighted with the nomination.

"I did not expect to win and I did not win,” Olson told host Seth Abramovitch at the time, per The Hollywood Reporter. “I felt very rewarded being nominated and that was quite enough.”

Throughout the course of her seven-decade-long career, Olson starred in several Disney movies. Most notably, she played Betsy Carlisle in 1961's The Absent-Minded Professor and reprised her role two years later in the 1963 sequel Son of Flubber. Throughout the rest of her career, the actress made appearances in many TV shows and movies, often in a supporting role. While she hung up her acting hat in the mid-1980s to focus more on her family — daughters Liza Lerner and Jennifer Lerner and son Christopher Livingston — she has made a couple of cameos following her retirement.

Speaking of her decision to step back from Hollywood, she explained the industry's darker side helped solidify her choice to leave the industry.

"I said to myself, 'I do not want to be a movie star, a commodity to sell,'" she told People in 2025. "I will be thrown away someday just as Gloria Swanson was, and so wasMarilyn Monroe, who committed suicide at the age of 36."

She continued, "What I decided at the end of that movie was, 'I don't think I want to be a movie star. I want family. I want children. I want a life, and this is not a life.'"

Yes, Staff!

Candace Cameron Bure will be on Season 5 of Special Forces: World's Toughest Test. The Full House alum is part of an all-star cast who will be put through intense military training to test their limits—both physically and mentally.

On July 15, Deadline confirmed the full cast for the upcoming series, which is slated to premiere on Thursday, Sept. 24, at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

Bure will be joined by actress Ruby Rose, former U.S. Rep. George Santos, NBA champion Matt Barnes, Baywatch alum David Charvet, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stars Brandi Glanville, Mauricio Umansky, and his daughter, Alexia Umansky, actor Oliver Hudson, Super Bowl champion LeSean McCoy, boxer Alycia Baumgardner, Olympian Maxim Naumov, Selling Sunsetstar Breana Tiesi, and comedian Hannah Stocking.

At the time of this writing, Bure had not spoken out about her participation in the upcoming season of Special Forces. However, in recent weeks, she's been posting some intense gym workouts on social media. In fact, earlier on Wednesday, the Great American Family star shared an impressive workout video in which she was doing plank-jacks along with a friend.

"Who says your 50’s aren’t fun?!" Bure captioned the post. Fans were super impressed with her physique—and her stamina.

"I think I just threw out my shoulder watching this!" one fan joked.

"SO IMPRESSIVE!" someone else said.

"That was incredibly well done, and very cool if I might add, while also being very difficult," a third comment read.

Bure turned 50 in April—and she's about to become a grandmother. Her son Lev Bure and his wife Elliott announced they are expecting their first child, and her daughter Natasha Bure is also expecting her first child with her husband, Bradley Steven Perry.
