Huey Lewis has nothing but love for the Doobie Brothers. In a post shared to the official Huey Lewis and the News Facebook page, the singer, 76, recalled his early days as an opening act for the ‘70s rock legends—and how they supported him through some tough times.

“When we first opened for the Doobie Brothers, we got booed,” Lewis was quoted as saying in the post. “Our first show, I think we had like 10 or 11 songs. As soon as a song would end, the boos would start. We learned to launch right into the next song immediately, so we didn't give the crowd a chance to boo.”

“After that first show, we were despondent, “Lewis continued. “It was a tough reaction. I said, ‘Man, that's terrible.’ The Doobie Brothers said, "Are you kidding? You did a lot better than (the previous opening band). They didn't even get through the whole set. I was like, ‘Okay, well, at least we got all 10 songs in.’ We must have done 30 dates with them, and we were booed every single night.”

The Doobie Brothers knew Huey Lewis and his band had something special. In an interview posted on Huey Lewis’ YouTube page, Doobie Brothers guitarist Patrick Simmons looked back on his band’s early support of the newcomers.

“I think it was just obvious how great a band they were,” he recalled. “You didn't have to be, you know, they didn't have to have any hit records for us to know that they were super talented musicians and, you know, they had great songs. That first record, I don't know if they even had a hit off that very first record, but we knew they were a great band. just you know it was there easy to see.”

“But I gotta say, I don't think he was, they weren't booed every night,” Simmons laughed.

Huey Lewis and the News’ first major trek on the road was opening for The Doobie Brothers' One Step Closer to Home Tour in 1980.

In a 2003 interview published by Pop Culture Classics, Lewis recalled being invited by Doobie Brothers guitarist John McFee to open for the band after previously working with him.

“McFee and I were in a band called Clover before that, and they were nice enough to give us the opening slot on their tour,” Lewis shared. “We were fortunate. They were so great to us. It really could have been ugly.”

Lewis then revealed that he quickly figured out how to avoid getting booed off stage.

“We thought we were doing good, when we got through 10 songs without anybody booing us off the stage,” he said. “The word was that The Fabulous Thunderbirds had opened their last tour and they hadn’t made it through their whole set. So our objective was to actually make it through all 10 songs. We learned how to go from song to song with no dead time, because dead time was where the boos would start.“

By the mid-1980s, Huey Lewis and the News became stars in their own right. Their 1983 album Sports featured several MTV-ready hits, and in 1985 their song "The Power of Love” was featured in the blockbuster movie Back to the Future.

The short answer is dimension. "Brown creates definition without stark contrast, and most importantly, it brings warmth to the eyes and face," Paulina tells Parade. "Most of the time I'm applying it, it still looks as dark as black, but it gives so much more dimension, enhancing your skin and eye color and helping the rest of the makeup shine through without being too overpowering."

Eldridge connects it to a broader shift in how people are approaching makeup right now.

"After loads of big lash and very heavy lash looks, people are turning more towards minimal eye makeup looks," she explains. "Brown mascara is a great way of achieving this, while keeping a bit of definition."

Brown Mascara vs. Black Mascara: What's the Difference?

It comes down to contrast and intention. Black mascara creates a bold, graphic effect where lashes stand out immediately against the skin. Brown mascara softens that contrast, blending more seamlessly with the face and creating what Eldridge describes as enhancement without obviously looking like you're wearing mascara.

"It does it in a softer, more understated way," she says. "It feels a little more effortless."

"Black makes lashes look darker and more intense if you're looking for maximum impact," Paulina explains, while brown "creates a natural warmth to the lashes and helps them appear fuller."

And Pollara adds, "Black mascara is often my choice for a full glam look, while brown mascara is my go-to for everyday."

Who Does Brown Mascara Look Best On?

Everyone, technically—but some people get a more transformative result than others. Pollara finds brown mascara especially flattering on fair to medium skin tones, and on blondes, redheads and anyone with lighter eyes, where the softened contrast feels more in harmony with the overall coloring.

Eldridge points out that reddish-brown shades can bring out blue in eye color specifically.

And Paulina makes the case for mature skin clients in particular. "The softer contrast is more flattering than anything harsh," she says.

How To Apply Brown Mascara for the Most Natural Look

Start with curled lashes—all three experts mention this without prompting, and Eldridge specifically never applies mascara without first reaching for her Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler. From there, one to two light coats applied root to tip is all you need for a natural effect.

"Concentrate most of the product at the base of the lashes and lightly comb through the ends to avoid clumping," Pollara says. For an even softer finish, she suggests skipping the bottom lashes entirely or applying just a touch to the outer corners.

Eldridge's tip for the natural look is equally simple: "Go from root to tip to separate and elongate."

Can You Wear Brown Mascara for a Dramatic Look?

Absolutely, and the technique is where it gets interesting. For drama, Eldridge's approach diverges from her natural-look method: "Get right down to the roots and hold there and just massage very slowly at the roots for as long as you can, back and forward," she instructs. "Eventually, lightly zigzag out to the tip."

She also loves pairing brown mascara with dramatic colored eyeshadows, calling out her own Betty Eyeshadow Palette as a combination she returns to because it keeps the fun of color "set in a softer way."

Pollara reaches for deep chocolate brown or brown-black mascaras for brides and clients who want definition and drama without the intensity of jet black.

Marky Ramone, who is best known for his long stint as a drummer with the Ramones, is celebrating his 74th birthday on Wednesday.

Named Marc Steven Bell, but best known as Marky Ramone, he and his twin brother Fred were born in a hospital in Brooklyn. Raised in New York City, he started playing for punk bands in the city during the 1970s, including Dust and Estus. He jumped through various rock groups and helped them record their albums before joining the Ramones in 1978, eventually becoming the band's longest-serving drummer.

The Ramones were an American punk rock band formed in 1974 in the Forest Hills neighborhood in Queens, New York, by Jeffrey Hyman, John Cummings, Douglas Colvin and Thomas Erdelyi, who all changed their stage names to have the last name "Ramone." Erdelyi, who went by Tommy Ramone, left in 1978 and was replaced by Bell, who stayed in the band until 1983, but then came back four years later and remained with the group until they disbanded in 1996.

The rock band released a total of 14 studio albums, with their last one being titled ¡Adios Amigos! in 1995. Known for helping establish the punk movement in the United States and around the world, the Ramones are often recognized as one of the first bands of the genre. Though they never achieved significant commercial success during their existence, the Ramones are highly influential in punk culture.

In an interview with Retropopic Radio six months ago, Bell spoke about the audition process for the Ramones, where 20 drummers showed up. The auditions were hosted by Erdelyi himself, who sat behind the kit to show each drummer the required beat.

"There was a lot of heavy competition out there. Not so much from the punk bands. I considered the Ramones the originators of punk, so in that sense there was no one to compete with," Bell wrote in his Medium blog in 2016. "But the Ramones were a punk rock band with the emphasis on rock. In rock, there were a lot of big boys with heavy drums: AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, and Van Halen. Van Halen were the new kids on the block, and someone the Ramones might not even have considered. Yet their self-titled album had just come out and it was worth considering."

Bell ended up leaving the Ramones in 1983 due to his addiction, taking four years off to go to rehab and get sober. He returned to the Ramones clean, following the departure of Richie Ramone and the firing of Elvis Ramone. After the Ramones officially disbanded in 1996, Bell joined various supergroups and bands as a drummer before creating the Ramainz, where he still performs old Ramones songs to this day.

Today, Bell continues to tour the world with his band, Marky Ramone's Blitzkrieg, keeping the classical music of the Ramones alive. In addition, since 2005, he regularly plays a massive setlist of Ramones hits and hosts a weekly punk rock show called Punk Rock Blitzkrieg on SiriusXM satellite radio.

Bell's love for music is still very prominent, even as he turns 74 years old. He told the Chronogram that his new band's mission is simple: "Keep the Ramones’ music on its ever-forward-moving track by playing the classics for the fans who love them."

Lizzo is opening up about how she recently gained 20 pounds.

The beloved "Truth Hurts" hip-hop icon, 38, has been quite candid about her weight loss journey in recent years. But as anyone working toward their health knows, the journey isn't always linear. In a new interview, the music star revealed that she actually gained 20 pounds over the last year after hitting her goal weight in January 2025.

"I've gained 20 pounds since last year," Lizzo explained to The Guardian. "So everyone can ask me about weight gain, too, if they'd like."

She continued, explaining that her initial pursuit of weight loss was to better her health.

"There are a lot of reasons," she noted when asked why she chose to start a weight loss journey years ago. "People always want to make it one single headline, one single thing. A lot of things can be true at once."

"I was in a place where my physical weight was causing joint pain and aches," she shared. "I also got to the point where I came off the internet, and all I had was the studio and my thoughts. So I poured myself into the things I could control. My body, my lifestyle. My routines and habits."

While many assumed her initial weight loss was with a drug like Ozempic, Lizzo wanted to make it clear that's not true.

“No!” she responded when asked by the publication.

What is Lizzo’s Health Plan?

Lizzo previously told podcaster Trisha Paytas that keeping her diet in check is essential.

“What did it for me was— actually, it was not being vegan,” Lizzo shared during a June 19 episode of the Just Trish podcast. “Because when I was vegan, I was consuming a lot of fake meats. I was eating a lot of bread. I was eating a lot of rice, and I had to eat a lot of it to stay full. But really I was consuming like 3,000 to 5,000 calories a day.” 

 Lizzo praised whole foods and eating beef, chicken, and fish. She told Today that she cut out sugary coffee drinks, full-fat sodas, and potato chips. She also limits alcohol.

As for workouts, Lizzo shared that she trains three times a week. She also does cardio and daily saunas.

“I play pickleball and hike and walk on the beach and move my body and dance and drink water. I detox! Once a month! I also get holistic body work done, wood therapy, and lymphatic massage,” she noted.

While weight loss is always challenging, Lizzo seems to have found peace with her food issues. She told Women’s Health last July that she’s discovered “a beautiful balance” with how food co-exists with her everyday life, a sharp contrast to her past struggles with overeating.

“It’s a beautiful balance where it’s like, if you allow yourself to have something, you can enjoy it without overindulging and hurting yourself,” she said. “I’m so proud of myself for overcoming that.”

With the 2026 Emmy nominations finally revealed, it's hard to believe a full year has passed since season 3 of The White Lotus competed.

Posey continued, "You could say White Lotus made an experiential lane of a kind of hosting-meets-theater-in-one’s-own-home — more of that, please! If I can mention here, how happy I am to be riding the caftan-trend: where I can dress it up with heels, dress it down with flats, and wear no shoes when I nap or sleep."

The Best in Show actress also shared about a memorable Hollywood party that has stuck with her over the years.

"I was talking to Goldie Hawn at a Golden Globe party and the party-ring I was wearing flew off my finger and I had to crawl around to find it," she said. It made us both laugh... we’d been talking deep about the lack of joy we were noticing in the culture! Then that happened."

And when it comes to mixing cocktails, many of us have used expressions revolving around the word "pour" — such as "healthy pour," etc. Posey just came up with her own.

"I get to do what I call the 'Parker Pour,'" she said. "I just pour a Cutwater Long Island Iced Tea over crushed ice, add a dramatic garnish, and join the rest of the party around the kitchen island."

Per E! News, the first preview just dropped for the fun new TV series Cocktail Wars. Not exactly America's version of The Great British Baking Show, viewers can expect a lot more booze and a lot less batter.

It won't just be co-hosts Bass and Fatone; mixology expert Melissa Brooke will provide expertise while NSYNC's notorious jokesters bring the laughs.

According to Fatone, "each episode pits three mixologists in a top-shelf showdown to craft the ultimate cocktail" for a shot at the $10,000 grand prize.

Bass added, "contestants will be tested at every measure," and "nerves will be shaken and emotions will be stirred."

Who knew Bass could be the next James Bond?

The 10-episode series is set to clink glasses Tuesday August 18 at 10 p.m. ET on E!, with the first two episodes airing back-to-back.

On July 1, the Ministry of Health had enough data to trigger an active outbreak of chikungunya — a disease carried by pesky mosquitoes that can leave people with high fevers, joint pain, headaches, swelling, nausea, and just simply feeling unwell.

As of the Embassy's alert, it's being reported there have been 45 suspected cases affecting locals, and yes, tourists too.

So far, "4 were confirmed and 17 were classified as probable."

Playa Langosta lies adjacent to aforementioned Tamarindo, a huge draw for expats, surfers, and fellow Costa Ricans looking to escape the daily grind.

It's not only the popularity of the Guanacaste region that's a growing concern; it's the fact that the virus is now circulating in the community's mosquito population, making DEET-based bug spray a must for all visitors.

Barbara Palvin and Dylan Sprouse are sharing an exciting update on their unborn baby!

The Suite Life of Zack & Cody alum, 33, and pregnant Victoria's Secret model, 32, revealed the sex of their first child on Sprouse's new podcast, Wildmen, just two months after announcing they were expanding their family.

L7 bassist Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with "an aggressive form of brain cancer," forcing her to drop out of the band's farewell tour.

The '90s grunge rock band took to Instagram on Monday, July 13, to share Finch's diagnosis after the 59-year-old musician was forced to exit their Last Hurrah Tour at the end of May.

“Our beloved bandmate, sister and friend Jennifer Finch has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer,” the band wrote in their joint statement on Instagram. “Following multiple surgeries and serious complications, Jennifer now requires extensive medical care, rehabilitation and professional in-home support.”

The band wrote that their Last Hurrah Tour was planned alongside Finch back when "all four of us were in good health and spirits," and that after she dropped out due to her health, Finch asked them to continue performing without her.

“We will honor her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority,” the band continued, concluding, “We love her, and we want her to feel the full strength of the community that has loved and supported her for so many years."

L7 also made sure to link to a GoFundMe fundraiser that they helped launch alongside Finch's loved ones to "help cover these urgent expenses and allow her to remain safely at home with the care, dignity and support she needs."

The GoFundMe shared additional details of Finch's cancer diagnosis, revealing that when the musician initially thought that she would be able to get back to "some version of normal living" after treatment, "unforeseen complications led to multiple surgeries and a string of difficult setbacks."

"The cancer and everything that comes with it have left her with significant physical limitations so she’s handling this the only way she knows how: one day at a time," the GoFundMe revealed, noting that the level of care Finch requires at this point "has gone beyond what friends and family can safely provide around the clock."

"As we face the difficult reality that Jennifer may have more good days behind her than ahead, we are asking for help to make the time she has with her friends, family, and fans as comfortable, meaningful, and full of love as possible," the description added.

As of Wednesday, July 15, the GoFundMe had raised more than $297,000 of its $350,000 goal.

For more than four decades, Howard Stern has been one of the most recognizable voices in radio.

But the future of his legendary show is about to look very different.

The longtime broadcaster, 72, is reportedly scaling back production of The Howard Stern Show, with plans to move to just one new live episode per week after Labor Day. The change comes alongside staff reductions, with about a dozen employees reportedly losing their jobs as the show prepares for a smaller production model.

According to reports, affected staff members were informed of the cuts during a Zoom meeting and will receive severance packages based on their time with the show. A smaller group of longtime producers is expected to remain as Stern shifts toward a less demanding schedule.

The move marks a significant change for a program that has been a fixture of American entertainment since Stern first began making waves in traditional radio decades ago.

Stern became known as the "shock jock" who pushed the boundaries of morning radio before transforming himself into one of the medium’s most influential interviewers. After years in terrestrial radio, he made a groundbreaking move to satellite radio in 2006 when he joined SiriusXM, helping redefine what subscription-based audio entertainment could become.

Over the years, The Howard Stern Show became known not only for its controversial moments, but also for its long-form celebrity interviews. Stern hosted conversations with some of Hollywood’s biggest names, often drawing out more personal stories than traditional talk show appearances allowed.

The upcoming reduction in new episodes follows Stern’s most recent contract agreement with SiriusXM, which reportedly gives him more flexibility and time away from the studio. The new arrangement appears designed to allow the radio icon to continue the show while reducing the pace of daily production.

The East Coast-born burger giant Shake Shack just launched a new nationwide West Coast Menu, a play for the flavor profile that has shaped California fast food for decades. The roll-out, which was announced on Instagram, targets the chain's rivalry with In-N-Out, bringing the combination of caramelized onions, spread, and pickles to Shacks from coast to coast.

The anchor of the new lineup is the West Coast Burger, featuring a quarter-pound Angus beef patty topped with American cheese, caramelized onions, honey mustard pickles, and a secret sauce. It is a formula that feels familiar to anyone who has ever waited in an In-N-Out’s drive-thru lane in Los Angeles.

The lineup also includes West Coast Chicken: White-meat chicken breast, hand-sliced avocado, lettuce, tomato, and sour cream & onion sauce on a potato bun. West Coast Loaded Fries: Crinkle-cut fries with melted cheddar, American cheese, caramelized onions, secret sauce.

The new menu expands past the beef past the classic East Coast-West Coast rivalry. Alongside the new California-themed items, Shake Shack is bringing back the Big Shack for a limited run. Public reaction on Instagram turned the post into a frenzy following the announcement. Commenters took to the brand's page, with users dropping variations of "West coast best coast" and declaring immediate lunch runs.

For years, In-N-Out’s geographic exclusivity was its main selling point, a California-centric cult of 437 locations concentrated heavily in the West. By taking the caramelized-onion-and-spread blueprint nationwide, Shake Shack is weaponizing its massive global footprint of 695 locations to strip away that coastal mystique, giving the rest of the country an animal-style fix without the flight to LAX.

The new items are available at all participating domestic Shacks starting July 14.

Nailbomb is hitting a major milestone in its music career after joining the lineup of Soulfly for its headlining U.S. tour this year.

In a shared announcement, Soulfly unveiled its 25-date fall U.S. tour with fellow Cavalera family projects Incite and the supergroup Nailbomb as supporting acts.

Scheduled to kick off on Sept. 18 in Louisville, Kentucky, the bands are set to deliver an intense night of performances across major cities in Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, Wyoming, California and more before concluding the nearly two-month trek on Oct. 15 in Tempe, Arizona.

What makes the tour extra special is that it marks the supergroup's first U.S. tour following the band's reunion after nearly 30 years.

The band officially called it quits after its appearance at the 1995 Dynamo Open Air Festival, stating that it ended on a high note.

"That was the idea," Newport explained in an interview as cited by Chronicles of Chaos. "We had already decided to break up and not do another album. We wanted to leave things as they were. People wanted to see Nailbomb live and we played the gig, but it takes a lot of work to pull it off and I don't think it would be right for Nailbomb to do a full tour. The live album seemed fitting to end on."

Almost 30 years later, Max Cavelera resurrected the supergroup in November 2024 with a performance in Phoenix, Arizona followed by back-to-back shows in Europe in 2025.

“The main reason is that I just really love the Point Blank record,” Cavelera told Metal Hammer as reported by Louder Sound, referring to their only studio album. “It’s one of my top five records of all time. I learned so much from making it that there’s this other way of making music, which is total freedom.”

After departing Sepultura, Max Cavalera formed Soulfly in 1997, followed by several side projects, including Nailbomb with co-founder Alex Newport of the rock trio Fudge Tunnel and another supergroup, Cavalera Conspiracy, with his brother Igor Cavalera.

As for Incite, it was the brainchild of Max Cavalera's stepson, Richie Cavalera, who formed the band in 2004.
