Released in late May of 2007, Cleaner centers around retired police officer Tom Cutler (Jackson). He's now retired and owns his own crime scene cleaning service. Eight years prior, his life was turned upside down when his wife was murdered in a home invasion that his daughter witnessed.

Like any other day at work, Tom receives an order from someone named Detective Jones to clean up a crime scene at a wealthy home. Using his own special blend of chemicals, Tom leaves the home spotless and later realizes that he accidentally kept the house key. When returning to the home, he meets the owner and wife, Ann Norcut (Mendes), who has no idea about his services. Tom soon realizes something is wrong and starts to suspect he's involved in a murder cover-up.

Cleaner was considered a box-office flop upon release, having had a budget of $25 million, but only making $5.8 million. IMDb gives the film a 6.1 score, while Rotten Tomatoes scored it a lower 17%. The thriller, directed by Renny Harlin, received mixed reviews from critics and fans, with many calling it an enjoyable thriller versus mediocre storytelling.

"A neatly contained crime whodunit with a nifty setup and an expert lead performance from Samuel L. Jackson," said The Hollywood Reporter.

Another critic said, "It's not that Cleaner is a terrible film, it just doesn't rear back and sock the viewer in the jaw like a great thriller should. It's mild sauce from the first frame to the last."

Some fans praised Jackson and the cast's performance, but felt they were far too good actors working with an "increasingly impossible plot." Other fans felt Cleaner had a good premise but did little to develop a worthwhile plot, which is tagged as a "forgettable flick."

Few musicians have ever achieved the fame and instantaneous recognition that came with the Beatles back in the 1960s.

With their popularity equal to that of a young Elvis Presley in the 1950s, the Fab Four became some of the most iconic faces in rock and roll history up that point in time, paving the way to millions of diehard fans following the group's work.

While few artists have secured as dedicated a fandom as the Beatles, Paul McCartney certainly sees shades of the band with Taylor Swift's continuously growing popularity, something he discussed at some length in a recent interview with BBC Sounds.

Asked whether he would give Swift any advice when it comes to her own momentous musical achievements, the 83-year-old said that he can certainly see similarities between Swift's popularity and that of the Beatles in the 1960s, especially when it comes to the thousands of adoring fans who attend the former's concerts.

“You do see the parallel, you know the fame and the amount of fame,” said McCartney. “The worldwide fame that Taylor Swift has and that we had, but I don't think she needs any advice to tell you the truth."

Given the fact that Swift seems to be walking a similar path to the Beatles in her own career trajectory, McCartney said that he likes to think of himself as a precursor of sorts to the "Shake It Off" artist.

“If she asked for [advice], I definitely would,” the Wings founder said. “I'm like the older brother to that generation, or more like the grandad, actually.”

McCartney shared a similar outlook when it came to other artists who are likewise experiencing new exposure in the music industry, including Sabrina Carpenter, Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo, all of whom McCartney called "really cool people."

“I like their voices,” the "Yesterday" singer said. “If they need any advice, yeah, I would be happy to give it, but I don't think they do.”

On Monday, Summer Housestar Mia Calabrese took to the red carpet of the 2026 American Music Awards donning Versace. But not just any Versace — it was the dress inspired by the iconic look that Lopez wore to the Grammy Awards in 2000.

"The first time I wore it, I actually didn’t have another dress," Lopez told Vanity Fair in 2020. "Usually I have choices. It was a last-minute thing that caused a sensation that was unexpected."

Oreo's newest cookie is bound to be a global sensation—just like its collaborators, BTS.

The iconic sandwich cookie brand revealed on Tuesday that it's teaming up with the K-pop group and its members—Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V and Jung Kook—to bring "a taste of their roots to a global audience," per an official announcement shared with Parade.

Oreo has previously collaborated with artists like Post Malone and Selena Gomez, and still, its newest limited-time cookie collaboration marks a first for both Oreo and the band, who were very involved in the process.

"For Oreo to be the first snacking brand we’ve collaborated with globally is a huge honor. We ate them as kids, we eat them in the studio, and now Oreo is helping us share a taste of home with the world," the band shared in a statement. "We’re just so proud to add our own chapter to Oreo's amazing story."

According to an official description, the Oreo & BTS cookie flavor features a brown sugar pancake creme inspired by hotteok, a beloved Korean street snack (a brown sugar pancake), and the band’s favorite snack growing up. The cookies also feature Oreo's first-ever original purple wafers, serving as a "nod to the bond between BTS and their fans."

In celebration of the band's 13th anniversary, the cookies feature 13 unique cookie embossments personally designed by BTS—including their names, a BTS light stick, and three Oreo cookies that form a special message to BTS fans. The packages themselves also pay "vibrant homage" to South Korea’s street market culture. But that's not all Oreo has in store.

Beginning on June 8, fans are invited to write a digital love letter to the band by scanning the QR code on the limited-edition Oreo packs. As letters are submitted, Oreo said it will make them public so fans can read each others’ words to BTS as the "largest love letter prepares to come to life in the real world." Fans who submit their love letters on the platform are also entered for a chance to win exclusive Oreo brand & BTS prizes.

Oreo said its new flavor will be available in 80 countries (including the U.S.), with an online pre-sale beginning on Monday, June 1.

The Oreo & BTS cookies will then start rolling out at retailers about a week later (expected June 8) in classic cookie packs, packs of 10 individually wrapped cookie sets, and larger bulk boxes, and will be available for a limited time while supplies last (prices may vary).

Nowadays, it's easy to see that David Letterman remains one of the most influential and important talk show hosts of all time.

Transforming the nature of late night and introducing a rowdier, more sardonic sense of humor than anything else of its generation, Letterman single-handedly redefined TV comedy with his career-defining work on Late Night beginning in the mid 1980s.

For all its undeniable success, however, Letterman has said that his iconic successor and employer at NBC, Johnny Carson, saw little reason to worry about the up-and-coming talk show overtaking his own series on late night TV.

In a conversation with Vulture late last year, the accomplished comedian said that the main thing he remembered Carson being worried about when it came to his show is Late Night's budget, something reflected in Carson's own earnings.

“To my memory, Johnny couldn’t have cared less, except whatever cut of the budget he got,” Letterman said of the TV host's outlook on Late Night back in the '80s and early '90s.

As Letterman saw it, his Late Night series posed "no threat" to Carson's undisputed reign of late night television. “To him, we were just, ‘Eh, okay, call me when they’re canceled,’” Letterman said with his traditional dry sense of humor. 

Though Letterman said Carson himself remained personally friendly to Letterman, the latter revealed that he never explicitly asked for Carson's thoughts on his show.

“I think he found it amusing,” Letterman said. “I always felt like, if you’re not as good as Johnny, really, is there any point in leaving Indiana?”

Despite his lengthy tenure in mainstream entertainment, Letterman went on to say that he still feels Carson's work remains an achievement in and of itself, aging miraculously well in the decades since his stint as the Tonight Show host came to an end.

“If you look at Johnny’s work now, my God, it was just solid,” Letterman opined.. “Pick one night of one week — the first year, the eighth year, the 20th year — he’s just rock solid."

This Pro Makeup Artist’s Mascara Trick Is Genius

When applied correctly, mascara on your lower lashes can really make your eyes stand out. Since those lashes tend to be harder to reach than your top ones, Ferro likes to break out a pro tip to ensure application goes smoothly.

After applying mascara to your lower lashes, while it's still wet, apply a bit more product to the lashes on the outer edge, she says. Before they dry, use a tweezer like a tiny comb or nudging tool to physically guide the outer lower lashes in two directions at once: outward (away from center) and slightly together (grouping them into a subtle cluster or fan shape rather than leaving them spiky and separate).

"It will create a more open doll eye look," she says, adding that you should "press together very lightly" rather than pulling.

The makeup expert says this trick has an added bonus of keeping your makeup clean and preventing clumping.

"This will also help the mascara from getting on your skin in your under-eye area," she tells Parade.

There's nothing worse than putting all your effort into applying a perfect coat of mascara only for it to smudge. Ferro says one easy way to avoid this makeup faux pas is to use a tubing mascara.

"This is the best way to ensure it will not smudge or come off throughout the day," she explains.

Additionally, a waterproof mascara and a setting powder under your eyes can prevent running.

What Is the Best Way to Layer Mascara for Length and Volume?

Adding multiple coats of mascara can help add length and volume to your lashes, but mastering the art of layering takes some practice and know-how.

For starters, Ferro suggests using one type of mascara instead of layering different products.

"Different brands and different formulas might not mix well together and this will cause clumps on the lashes," she warns.

For optimal layering, Ferro also recommends curling your lashes first.

"Lightly heat your lash curler with a blow dryer before use," she recommends.

Lastly, let each mascara layer dry for 15 seconds in between applications to avoid using too much product at once.

What Are the Most Common Mascara Mistakes To Avoid?

To make sure your mascara goes the distance, it helps to avoid two common mistakes.

For starters, Ferro says you shouldn't apply mascara before powder or eye shadow.

"I would apply my mascara at the end of my makeup application. This way, no powder or shadow dries on top of the lashes. Once that happens and you try to add more mascara to get rid of the powder, it will end up being clumpy," she says.

Another mistake mascara wearers sometimes make is squeezing their eyes closed when their mascara is wet and then applying a setting spray.

"Your mascara will end up all over your eyes and underneath," Ferro says.

When Will Sonic's Summer Menu Items—and Collectible Cups—Be Available?

Sonic's summer menu is available for a limited time starting this week—if you're a rewards member anyway. Fans looking to score an early taste can do beginning Tuesday, May 26 when they order in the Sonic App. Sonic Rewards members can also score 250 bonus points on Red, White and Blue Slush Float when they purchase the drink in the app on June 12, 19 and 25 (the days USA soccer matches are scheduled).

The items will then launch nationwide a few days later, with their official seasonal debut happening on Monday, June 1.

Award-winning singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette is offering an intimate, exclusive concert experience on May 29, headlining the Wells Fargo Autograph Card Exclusives concert at the 1,100-capacity venue White Oak Music Hall in Houston, Texas.

The upcoming concert is part of Wells Fargo’s Autograph Card Exclusives series, which offers eligible cardholders access to special performances by major artists. This concert also comes one year after the 30th anniversary of Morissette's iconic album, Jagged Little Pill.

Regarding looking back on Jagged Little Pill 30 years later, Morissette shared, "It is fortuitous that most if not all of my songs are ones that I can still stand behind. I can sing them with conviction because the value system has not changed. The only one that could do with an update is 'Not the Doctor,' as I hadn’t been married for 16 years yet. Now I know that we do, in fact, participate in each other’s healing."

Morissette also reflected on the process of turning the album Jagged Little Pill into a Broadway show of the same name.

"Working with Diablo Cody and Diane Paulus and Sidi Larbi, [the] choreographer, was the perfect example of ideal collaboration—when one plus one can equal fifty," she said. "When it came time for the story to be told, I was really blown away at different characters imbuing the songs with a whole other quality of urgency and palpability for me personally because I've been singing it from my own personal lens. I would weep during workshops of the musical for how I would gain objectivity for the first time on these songs."

"We would be writing the story itself, Diablo Cody sharing that the characters were born from the songs themselves, and I would throw songs to them that would apply to each scene or character," Morissette added.

Morissette spoke about the complexities of going on tour compared to being involved in something like a Broadway show as well.

"It can be somewhat isolating to be on tour. I've been on tour on and off since I was 10 years old, so to be part of a theater experience is so communal. There's something about the singing and exalting and celebrating and hurting in the presence of others that is really powerful and makes for a potential collective healing by the very act of us focusing on the resilience in the story and the outcomes," the singer-songwriter explained.

Although Morissette doesn't feel that much has changed in terms of her process or approach throughout her career, she did share, "Writing songs is a channeling. I used to not be sure if something would come through. At this juncture in life, though, I know deeply that anytime I open to the process and am receptive in this way, something will come through that will surprise and impact me."

Regarding her upcoming concert, Morissette shared, "I am humbled by every audience I get to commune with, no matter what size the venue is. Expressing emotions of every kind and connecting interpersonally are two things that matter most to me and light me up; they are both especially present at my shows. I would say people who are coming can expect vulnerability and power and all the emotions."

She added, "I’ve always loved my shows in Texas, and I’m just very excited and grateful for the opportunity to reconnect with my friends who come to the shows there. There is an intimacy that becomes available at these kinds of shows."

Adding to that concept of intimacy, Morissette said, "There is a dialogue of sorts that happens between me and the audience. While it can feel like a monologue based on the stage/audience, there is a back and forth that is communicated beyond words."

In addition to the upcoming concert, Morissette has some other exciting projects in the works.

"Soft launched thedeeply, the home for my wholeness model, a place for resources, community, talks, events, articles and immersive opportunities focused on trauma and addiction recovery, artistic process, temperament, community and more. And a tour in Europe this summer," Morissette shared of her current and upcoming work.

Starbucks South Korea’s head, Shinsegae Group chairman, Chung Yong-jim, recently apologized for a major marketing blunder following a backlash against the company for promoting tank-shaped tumblers to mark the country’s solemn May 18 ‘Tank Day.’ This is the second public apology in the past few weeks for the wildly inappropriate campaign. 

What Is 'Tank Day'?

The coffee company reportedly used the anniversary of the Gwangju Democratic Uprising in an advertising promotion. On May 18, 1980, a student-led protest in South Korea’s city of Gwangju against the military dictator Chun Doo-hwan turned violent when the military responded with force (including tanks). Hundreds of lives were lost, leading to an annual day of remembrance for the innocent victims.

While the holiday is a somber time to memorialize the tragic events of May 18, Starbucks is accused of using it as a marketing tool. The company was set to debut promotional tumblers shaped like tanks and the slogan, “Thwack it on the table.” Of course, the offensive idea outraged consumers, prompting protests against Starbucks.

How Did Starbucks Respond to the 'Tank Day' Backlash?

Majority Starbucks owner, the Shinsegae Group, has now apologized twice for the outrageous idea. Chung said, in a recent press conference, “First of all, I, as Chairman of Shinsegae Group, sincerely apologize to and ask for forgiveness from bereaved families of May 18 democratic uprising victims, the bereaved family of Park Jong-chol, citizens of Gwangju, and South Korean people who have felt deep hurt and disappointment over this matter.”

He continued, “I take it very seriously the fact that many people felt deep pain and anger because of Starbucks Korea’s inappropriate marketing campaign…I will make no excuses. I am solely responsible for the matter. It is my fault.”  

Outrage spread from South Korea across the globe, with critics of the company flocking to social media. One confused commenter asked on a recent Reddit post, “How does something like this even get all the way to becoming an actual product?” while others wrote, “How do people get to CEO positions while being this stupid?” and, “Honestly, how did not one person notice this? Or did someone notice but didn't feel comfortable speaking up?”

Obviously, Starbucks immediately pulled the campaign. But that may not be enough to regain consumers’ confidence. Following the second public apology, shares of the Shinsegae Group fell by 2.8%. While they did make a slight recovery, it doesn’t look like Starbucks South Korea’s customers are ready to forgive and forget yet.

"I said, ‘Well, here's the thing… Did you ever watch Little House on the Prairie? And he said, ‘You're Laura, aren't you? I knew it.’ He knew it," she revealed on actor Patrick Labyorteaux's podcast in 2025.

She continued, "He could see. And when I met my half-siblings, we all looked alike. So you could definitely see it… It’s pretty clear." Gilbert, who was adopted by actors Barbara Cowan and Paul Gilbert, learned that her biological parents also worked in entertainment. Her biological birth mother was an exotic dancer, while her father was a stock car racer and musician.

Going gray is beautiful, and Thorn Birdsactress Rachel Ward refuses to change for online trolls. Ward, who spent the last few decades mainly out of the spotlight, re-emerged on Instagram, doing something very un-Hollywood: embracing aging.

At 68, Ward says she's the happiest she's been and finds that being open about aging provides a springboard for a bigger conversation.

"I was a catalyst for a conversation that I think people had been challenged by," she said on Instagram. "Women weren't allowed to have a wrinkle, weren't allowed to go gray. Why do we feel we've got to pretend that we're still 40 when we're 68?"

She added, "The more wretched I looked, the more followers I have. How ironic that my going gray actually garnered me more attention than if I'd taken my top off."

Ward left Hollywood, trading acting for regenerative farming in Australia. She has an 840-acre cattle property in the Nambucca Valley in northern New South Wales and actively posts on Instagram about her life. In March, she mused about the ongoing challenges of running a farm. "Season of change again and getting ahead of the game planting a multi species crop. Pre-planning is not always my forte but gotta keep those cows destined for Farm Thru fat in all seasons," she posted along with a video.

Her focus is on farming, not her face, she wrote in January. "Overwhelmed by the generosity that poured forth after a few fearful trolls went on the attack of my rather unkempt appearance before Christmas," she wrote alongside another Instagram video. "I’m a farmer now but really should do my hair and apply some lippy before I go on social media. Apologies for frightening a few of you. I would crawl under a rock but very keen to promote my new initiative @Farmthru_ where you can buy Delicious regen steaks, chooks, eggs, pork and lamb at a curb side hub in the Northern Beaches."

In an interview with ABC News Australia, she said, "I'm so past caring about what people think about one's appearance or age. All I want to hear is, 'Actually, Rachel's cows are looking pretty good.'"

One of the defining alt-rock bands of the 1980s, Sonic Youth, had an almost seven-minute-long song that became a cult favorite despite not even debuting on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song in question is "Teen Age Riot," which was released on the group's fifth studio album, Daydream Nation, in 1988.

"Teen Age Riot" was a fitting first single for the album with this title, as the song was written about an alternate dream reality in which Dinosaur Jr. member J Mascis was the president of the United States. A couple of years before the song was released, Mascis toured with the alt-rock band, and it seems like he made an impression.

Sonic Youth member Thurston Moore revealed the inspiration behind the song in the liner notes to the deluxe edition of Daydream Nation. He was quoted as saying, via American Songwriter, "It was actually about appointing J Mascis as our de facto alternative dream president."

1988 was a presidential election year, with George H. W. Bush winning against Democratic candidate Michael Dukakis. So it's no wonder politics and a dream president were on Sonic Youth's mind at the time of writing the song. The album version of the track has a runtime of six minutes and 57 seconds, while the official single was cut down to three minutes and 50 seconds.

"Teen Age Riot" peaked at No. 20 on the Billboard Alternative Airplay chart in 1989, but in the decades since, it's become an alt-rock favorite and is remembered as one of the band's best songs.

Sonic Youth performed the song many times in the years after Daydream Nation came out. But one particular performance of "Teen Age Riot" has special significance for fans of the band. On Nov. 14, 2011, in Brazil, Sonic Youth performed together for the last time before they disbanded. The last song they ever played together as the encore for the show was "Teen Age Riot."

For decades, Saturday Night Live has presented a seamless image of Hollywood confidence with celebrities striding to the Studio 8H microphone, landing their jokes, and walking off to thunderous applause. What happens when that doesn't go according to plan turned out to be something two of the show's most familiar faces had been sitting on for years.

On Friday, John Mulaney appeared on The Pete Davidson Show, Davidson's new Netflixpodcast, where the two comedians opened up about their shared experience handling one of SNL's most open secrets. Namely, celebrity hosts often have opening monologues that fall flat in front of a live audience. Both men described a ritual they each performed independently, and nearly identically, of reassuring hosts after performances that plainly hadn't landed.

'When I was 25, I'd tell Oscar-winning hosts, I'd write their monologue and be like, 'You're gonna say all that, it's gonna go great,' Mulaney said on the podcast, before adding, 'They'd tank eight times out of ten.' When those same hosts finished and looked to Mulaney for a verdict, he wasn't always honest. 'They'd be like, 'Hey, was that good?' And you'd be like, 'No. Do you have ears?' Davidson admitted he ran a nearly identical routine. His standard line was telling a visibly troubled host, 'You're really performing for the people at home.' If that didn't help, he had a backup. 'I always would go, 'They're tourists. They wait outside and try to win a lottery. Half of them probably don't even speak English.' They do. They're big fans of the show; they camp outside.'

The exchange was funny, but it also revealed something about the distance between SNL's polished broadcast version and the stressful live experience behind it. Mulaney spent four seasons as a staff writer on the show from 2008 to 2012, working alongside some of the biggest names in Hollywood as they navigated a format few actors are trained for. Davidson joined the cast in 2014 and spent eight seasons watching the same dynamic play out from the other side of the cameras. Together, they've logged more SNL time than almost anyone outside Lorne Michaels.

SNL recently wrapped its 51st season, with the finale featuring host Will Ferrell and musical guest Paul McCartney. The Davidson-Mulaney conversation was recorded in early May at the Netflix Is a Joke festival in Los Angeles and released Friday. "For me, the single most important feature for a premium economy seat is how much it reclines," notes TPG Travel Expert Clint Henderson. "Two inches can make a huge difference when it comes to getting quality rest. Some recline is only six inches, whereas the best seats have nine inches or more. I also check the seat width. You’ll want to know if there is a separate meal service. Sometimes it’s just a coach meal, but other carriers offer a full, specialized meal service. You can sometimes even order ahead, just like in business class. You can also look at things like if meals are served on real dishware. I also like to see what kind of amenities are on offer. Some airlines provide a special kit with items like eye masks and earplugs. On some flights, you’ll get a pillow and blanket."

Premium Economy vs. Business Class: When to Splurge

With premium economy becoming increasingly luxurious, many travelers find themselves facing a common dilemma: when should you save your points for a premium economy seat, and when does it make sense to go all out on a business-class ticket? The decision ultimately hinges on the length of your flight, your personal sleeping habits, and dynamic pricing shifts.

"For me, I say splurge on business class if you can find a good deal on long, overnight flights when sleep is most important," advises Henderson. "I cannot sleep well in premium economy, for example, but I can in a lie-flat seat, so long, overnight flights are a priority for me. Always check pricing for both, too. These days, the price difference between premium economy and business can be small. In the early days of PE, it was cheaper in my experience, but those days are gone as people have grown to love PE."

How to Score the Best Deals with Cash or Points

Because major carriers have shifted aggressively toward dynamic pricing models, there is no single, easy answer for finding the cheapest ticket. However, mastering a few modern digital tools and insider booking strategies can save you hundreds of dollars or thousands of miles on your next upgrade.

"There’s no easy answer to what is most affordable," notes Henderson. "Because of dynamic pricing, prices change all the time for all airlines. I will say you can sometimes find cheap upgrade offers on airlines like Delta and American after you’ve booked coach tickets, so check the app for your carrier to look for those deals (using cash or miles). If you want to find the cheapest cash options, I would recommend using a tool like Google Flights to search for multiple dates for premium economy (you can toggle to search just PE on Google Flights). You can also set price alerts that way. If you are looking for the best points deals, try a tool like Points Path."

The rewards space currently holds incredible sweet spots if you know where to point your mileage balance. "Some of the best points deals I’ve found have been booking premium economy via Alaska Airlines or American Airlines," the expert shares. "For example, I see flights between New York and London in September for 40,000 AA miles or 30,000 Alaska points to Paris (on partner Condor)."

If you don't secure an award seat in advance, don't panic—there are still multiple ways to unlock a premium seat as your departure date approaches. "Other tips include asking at the ticket counter on the day of departure. Sometimes unsold seats go much cheaper. I also try the old-fashioned way and call. Sometimes the price drops in the days before the flight, or an agent can suggest something you didn’t think of. I just had this experience trying to buy an upgrade on an 11-hour flight to New York from Honolulu. The agent said the cash price was more than $3,200. That’s too much for me, so the agent suggested I use my stash of Alaska miles. It was more than 120,000 miles, but well worth it for a long overnight flight."

"Also, remember to check the pricing often. If you paid cash and didn’t book basic economy, if the price drops before your flight, you can get a trip credit for the price difference!
