HGTV Star Stuns in Tropical Getaway Outfit and Fans Cannot Believe She’s Turning 50
Whoever decided that beauty was synonymous with youth has clearly never truly looked at a woman in her golden years. Time and time again, stunning older women prove that age is nothing but a number—especially when their aura just exudes youthfulness. Whether they are embracing their gray hair or refusing to "dress their age," these women are everything society tells them they can't be.

The latest evidence that this is true? HGTV's very own Egypt Sherrod, who recently posed for a few photos with her husband, Mike Jackson, and their daughters while on a tropical vacation. Wearing a stunning, flowy tank top and trendy jean shorts, the mom reflected on life and her hopes for herself as she enters her 50th year, which she celebrates in November.
View this post on Instagram"As I begin this walk toward my 50th year, I feel both a sadness and a peace," Sherrod wrote in her Instagram caption. "I find myself grieving the things I’ve not yet experienced, yet have a warm peace because I’ve still got so much life in me to do them. So let’s go, ya’ll...This next chapter isn’t about achievement; it’s about skipping, laughing, dancing, and freedom."
The post comes just days after the pair announced they are filming two new shows, Home Abroad with Egypt and Mike and Deserving Design, set to be released later in 2026.
“For those who have watched us for years, they know we believe in giving back and paying it forward,” Sherrod told USA Today in a recent interview. “That is what we are passionate about. At the core, these projects speak to our desire to help people, to build legacy, and to use real estate and design to build impact.”

While fans are, of course, happy to hear about Sherrod's success on screen, they couldn't stop gushing over her gorgeous look in the comments of her saucy Instagram post.
"This is what I have to look forward to at 50, I’ll take it," wrote one fan.
"Looking amazing while enjoying all that sunshine! Keep smiling," added another.
"Looking fabulous!!! 50’s is the new 40’s. Celebrate yourself today and every day," compliments a third.
Sherrod has not yet revealed which network her two new shows will be airing on.
40 Years Later, Molly Ringwald Says Her Strongest ‘Pretty in Pink’ Memory Is an Algebra Test
It wasn’t kissing ’80s heartthrob Andrew McCarthy or sharing the screen with trailblazer Harry Dean Stanton that Molly Ringwald remembers most vividly about filming Pretty in Pink. It was taking her high school finals—specifically, an algebra test.
“It was such a long time ago. It almost seems like a different life,” Ringwald told People, tapping into a core memory. “I had to do my finals on set for my high school algebra test. So I think that’s what I remember the most," she added.
She also recalled celebrating her best friend Matt's 18th birthday. “[Matt] celebrated his 18th birthday on that set, and I have a picture of him blowing out the candles,” she said. Matt and Ringwald had been friends since the sixth grade, plus he was the inspiration for the Pretty in Pink character Philip F. “Duckie” Dale (Jon Cryer). In the film, Duckie is the best friend of Ringwald's character, Andie Walsh.
“[Matt] was the character that Duckie was based on in Pretty in Pink,” Ringwald said. “And he’s the godfather of my elder daughter, and I’m the godmother of his kid. And yeah, we’ve been friends forever.”
Earlier this month, McCarthy revealed on The Drew Barrymore Show that the iconic John Hughes film originally had a different ending.
"Originally, I ended up not going to the prom with Molly, and she went with John Cryer. I just kinda ditched her through peer pressure,” McCarthy said. “And so they tested that for a test screening, and the audience hated that. They wanted [McCarthy's character Blane McDonagh and Andie] to be together. So we had to reshoot the ending where I come back to the prom and say ‘I love you’.”
Of course, those who remember the film recall Blane and Andie ride off into the sunset, and Duckie is suddenly noticed by some of the popular girls at school. When asked how he felt about the audience needing that happy ending, McCarthy laughed, “I needed to get the girl, c’mon?”
Why 'Revenge of the Sith' Is My Favorite 'Star Wars' Movie, Even Though I Know Everyone Hates It
If you've ever met a Star Wars fan, you know how invested people can be in this franchise. They are passionate and protective of their favorite characters and films. They definitely have a favorite series or moment in Star Wars, and you can bet they have their least favorite moments as well.
Star Warsfans can get defensive, especially when talking about their favorite film set in a galaxy far, far away. And, of course, they might even judge you depending on what yours is, too. As a female fan who's covered Star Wars for a living in the past, I know this intimately and still am not afraid to state such a controversial phrase as: I love Revenge of the Sith the most.
Yes, yes, I know. You can pause for dramatic effect. Star Wars: Episode III — Revenge of the Sith does not have a good rep with many Star Wars fans. It was the last installment in the prequel trilogy and the last Star Wars movie that George Lucas directed. It is arguably the best prequel film and led to the highly anticipated reprisal of Ewan McGregor's Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Disney+ series.
However, in comparison to the many movies in the Skywalker Saga today, and especially the spinoff Rogue One, it's not always at the top of people's "Best of Star Wars" lists. As a lifelong fan, I know this. Believe me, I do. But that does not make it any less true that Revenge of the Sith is my favorite Star Wars movie of all time.

The Star Wars prequels, being a continuation of a massive and important franchise, had a lot riding against them from the get-go. They were up against high expectations from older fans, along with the fact that there wouldn't be a ton of recognizable faces this time around. Sure, you had R2-D2 and C3PO. But other than familiar names and younger versions of characters, you couldn't exactly bring back beloved actors like Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher or Harrison Ford in a movie that takes place almost two decades before A New Hope.
On top of those massive shoes to fill, the prequels came with a more earnest tone than the original trilogy did. While Episodes IV, V and VI weren't meant to be silly or campy, they could be at times while also being a bit whimsical, not taking themselves too seriously. And with the new CGI and special effects of the prequels—at least new to the early 2000s—and the seriousness and angst of Anakin Skywalker's (Hayden Christensen) arc, the prequels were just not able to lean into campiness in the same way. Anakin was angsty and sometimes a little too aloof for some fans' liking. This made lines like "I don't like sand" come off worse (or memorably worse) than a similarly annoying teen Luke whining, "But I was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters!" in 1978.
Despite the fact that Anakin Skywalker made several good points about sand being "coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere," he was remembered for that silly line because it was during a pretty intense subplot where Anakin is warring with feelings for Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman), who he then shares a first kiss with. It's for reasons like this that the prequels were originally looked down upon by lovers of the originals.

Regardless of all of that, though, the prequel Star Wars trilogy holds a special place in the hearts of kids who grew up with it. Those of us who went to see The Phantom Menace in theaters at three years old, or who cried in the audience at 10 during the Mustafar scene in Revenge of the Sith, are going to feel differently about these movies. Star Wars is indeed made for children, so you can't be mad at a whole generation of Star Wars fans discovering this franchise through the prequels and attaching themselves to it (don't tell the Jedi).
For me, Revenge of the Sith is so enthralling and a movie I can't turn away from because of just how dramatic and angsty it is. It's the ultimate culmination of the story at the core of the prequels: Anakin Skywalker's journey from a 9-year-old on Tattooine, to a cocky, rebellious teen, into a (still) cocky, daring Jedi Knight who just wants to secure something he was never able to have—family—leading to his downfall.

As a child, getting to know Anakin and seeing how his efforts at being a good Jedi kept resulting in disaster were disheartening. He's made to be the hero we root for, and it's so dramatic and sad to see his turn to the Dark Side. Sure, as an adult, I can better see how he didn't do himself many favors. But being an adult means that I can also see just how screwed up the Jedi Order was. With not even a therapist at his disposal, it's no wonder Anakin felt like he had to aggressively protect what he loved most to the point of destroying it all in an emotional break for the ages.

There are also so many other reasons why Revenge of the Sith just makes my fangirl feels flutter. Being a massive Anakin and Padmé "shipper" before I could coherently even understand what that meant, this movie shows the Greek tragedy that is the end of their relationship and the death of Padmé. There's the moment where we see the last time Obi-Wan (McGregor) and Anakin interact before Anakin turns into Darth Vader, both unaware of what was coming. And, of course, there's the moment where Anakin disarms (literally) Mace Windu (Samuel L. Jackson), which always makes me scream, "Don't do it!" even though I know the ending.
Of course, the climax of Revenge of the Sith is probably the biggest reason I adore this film so much. I don't think any fight in Star Wars hits me as hard, emotionally, as Obi-Wan and Anakin's duel on Mustafar (though the duel between Vader and Ahsoka in Star Wars Rebels is a very close second). The lava, the darkness in Anakin, the way they're so in sync because Kenobi taught his padawan everything he knows! Plus, don't even get me started on the poetic dialogue that leads into their fight.
“I have brought peace, freedom, justice, and security to my new empire…”
“Your new empire?!?”
“Anakin, my allegiance is to the Republic. To DEMOCRACY!”
“... Only a Sith deals in absolutes.”
The anguish, the pain, the betrayal and Obi-Wan having the high ground! The prequels come down to this moment and it never fails to break my heart and excite me all at the same time.

Above all, Revenge of the Sith gave us one of the most pivotal turning points in all of Star Wars canon—Order 66—something that Star Wars just loves to recreate over and over and over again. The agony of the destruction of the Republic, democracy and the Jedi Order right before our eyes is hard to watch but also so hard to turn away from.
Senator Amidala's line when Chancellor Palpatine (aka Darth Sidious, played by Ian McDiarmid) establishes the first Galactic Empire with him as dictator and Emperor—"So, this is how liberty dies, through thunderous applause"—is haunting when we know where this saga goes after the movie. The dismantling of the Republic and an active Senate, along with the destruction of the Jedi and the extermination of every Jedi that could be found, gave way to this fascist regime that wouldn't be thwarted for decades.
Revenge of the Sith is the catalyst for most of the newer Star Wars stories we have today. The emotional and monumental toll this movie has not only on me but on the franchise at large is unmistakable. Sure, my love and attachment to the core characters definitely cloud my judgment and make me biased toward this movie. But it's impossible not to see just how crucial this film is in the greater canon and why the Mustafar scene and the birth of Darth Vader alone make Revenge of the Sith one of the best Star Wars movies in existence.

Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden Welcome Third Baby
Actress Cameron Diaz and husband, Good Charlotte singerBenji Madden, just welcomed their third child. And if you’re wondering how you could have possibly missed the news that the couple was expecting…well, you didn’t.
Diaz and Madden are fiercely private, and like other celebrity parents, keep their kiddos’ info private. That’s why you won’t find pics of the pair’s six-year-old daughter, Raddix Chloe Wildflower Madden, or their two-year-old son Cardinal Madden splashed across social media.
Even though the couple doesn’t typically share posts about their children, Madden did announce their newest baby’s birth on Instagram. And it was quite a surprise to fans.
View this post on InstagramInstead of a photo, the dad-of-three made the announcement with a picture of a ship. Before you say, “A ship? What does that have to do with a newborn?”, take a look at the rest of the illustration. The boat is actually an imaginative baby name announcement!
What is Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden’s Third Baby’s Name? The couple is clearly fans of interesting baby names. They chose Raddix for their first child and Cardinal for their second. And based on Madden’s recent post, the newest addition to the family is following in his big sister and brother’s footsteps.
Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden chose a nautical name for their son—Nautas. Madden also includes the names' pronunciation and origin. Per his post, Nautas (from the Latin root word Nauta-) means, “Sailor, navigator, voyager, one who embarks on a journey and fears not the unknown.”
The new dad also captioned the picture with a sweet sentiment, writing, “Cameron and I are Happy, Excited, and feeling so Blessed to announce the birth of our third Child, Nautas Madden. Welcome to the world, Son!”
Madden continued, “We love life with our family, our kids are happy and healthy, and we are grateful! Having a blast.”
New mom, Diaz, responded to her husband's post with a string of hearts, while Australian musician Clinton Cave wrote, “Biggest cool dad flex with the One Piece announce. Welcome Nautas to the world, legendary status awaits!”
Benji also shared a carousel of drawings, including a cardinal (we’re guessing in honor of his first son), a horse, a potted plant, and more. Madden ended the post with an image reading, “Every great legend begins with a single voyage…Chart your own course. Keep your compass true. The world is yours.”
The 53-year-old actress opened up about waiting to have a child on Gwyneth Paltrow’s GOOP website in 2022, saying, “I’m the oldest mom in my group of girlfriends with kids, and it’s great. I’m lucky to have those girlfriends, lucky to have my daughter, lucky to have all the support I do raising her.”
And now she’s got two more to raise! Congrats go out to the party of five on their exciting new family journey.
The Royal Twist Behind Kate Middleton, Prince William’s Choice for Princess Charlotte’s Name
Princess Charlotte’s name carries a subtle tribute to Princess Diana, woven into Kate Middleton and Prince William’s choice for their only daughter, says a royal commentator.
Charlotte, who just celebrated her 11th birthday on May 2, is a living link to her late grandmother. However, while her name could have directly honored Princess Diana, Kate and William deliberately chose not to use Diana as Charlotte's first name.
Royal commentator Richard Kay said in the documentary Secrets of the Royal Palaces, as reported by Express, that the couple's decision allowed Charlotte not to live a lifetime of comparison. "I think [William] very wisely decided not to give Charlotte his mother's name as her first name. Everything she did and said would have been compared with her," Kay explained.
By giving Charlotte her own distinct first name and using her late grandmother’s name as a middle name, Kate and William created a subtle but meaningful tribute. It allowed the young royal to carry a connection to her grandmother without that legacy shaping her identity.

William was just 15 when his mother died as a result of injuries she sustained in a car accident in Paris, France. Diana's companion, Dodi Al Fayed, and the car's driver, Henri Paul, also died. The sole survivor was bodyguard Trevor Reese Jones.
Before her death, Diana divorced William's father, then-Prince Charles, in 1996. One of the stipulations of the divorce was that Diana had to relinquish "her royal highness," but she was able to keep the title Princess of Wales, per Cosmopolitan.

The 7 Best Airlines for Lay-Flat Beds in 2026, According to The Points Guy
Selecting the right long-haul carrier in 2026 often comes down to more than just the destination; it’s about how you feel when you land. While lay-flat beds and the ubiquitous "clinking champagne" selfies have become the ultimate influencer status markers on social media, the true benefit is much more practical: arriving well-rested. Securing a seat that allows for real sleep is like gaining an entire extra day of vacation, especially if you arrive in the morning and your hotel isn't ready for check-in.
To snag these premium experiences without breaking the bank, experts suggest a mix of strategic timing and credit card savvy. "I usually try to find a good deal in coach and then look for cheap upgrade offers to premium economy or business class," says The Points Guy travel expert Clint Henderson. "Fly when it’s less busy for best results (think mid-week or off-season)." For those aiming directly for the front of the plane, Henderson recommends leveraging technology. "If you want to fly in business class, that’s where I say be flexible and use points. There are lots of great award search tools these days to help you find cheap business class awards. We like Points Path and Seats.Aero. But you need to be flexible. Don’t be afraid of opening a new credit card to get the signup bonus for that dream redemption."
This strategy works best when you are earning the right kind of currency. Nick Ewen, Senior Editorial Director at The Points Guy, notes that “the ‘best’ options are typically ones that earn flexible rewards—ones that can be used for cash-back, direct travel and can be transferred to partner loyalty programs. The most widely applicable ones here would be the Chase Sapphire Preferred, the Capital One Venture, the Citi Strata Premier and the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey.”
To help you decide where to aim those points, we turned to TPG Travel ExpertNicky Kelvin to identify the airlines currently offering the best experiences in the sky.

Top Tips for Booking Your Best Sleep YetWith lounge access policies and award availability shifting significantly in 2026, getting into these top-tier seats requires a proactive strategy. Keep these expert tips in mind before you book:
- Mind the Guest Policy: If you are traveling with a partner, ensure your card stack still offers guest access; for example, the Chase Sapphire Reserve remains a standout as it still includes two free guests for its lounge network.
- Leverage Premium Tickets: Remember that booking a business or first-class ticket often grants you access to "airline-only" lounges—like the Delta One or Qatar Al Mourjan—that credit cards alone cannot touch.
- The "Authorized User" Strategy: If you frequently travel with a partner, paying to add them as an authorized user on your premium card is often more cost-effective than paying individual guest fees for lounge entry over several trips.
- Use the Apps: Check your carrier’s mobile app for live occupancy trackers or digital waitlists for those high-end lounges at JFK and LAX to ensure you aren't turned away at the door.

Fans are not only loving Brown’s take on one of the most revered guitar players in music today, they’ve also been quick to celebrate the country star for endorsing a fellow musician.
In a post shared to social media this week, Zac Brown compared legendary guitar player Derek Trucks to Jimi Hendrix.

Brown often collaborates with other artists onstage, but calling Derek Trucks a modern-day Jimi Hendrix is a major statement of respect from one highly regarded musician to another.
Comparisons to Hendrix are rare, with only a few artists in music history—such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and Prince—receiving similar praise, a sign of just how exceptional Derek Trucks is on guitar.

Who Is Princess Eugenie? While she might not get the same level of attention as her cousins Prince Williamand Prince Harry, this royal (like the rest of her family) is still always in the spotlight.
Of course, her father, the formerPrince Andrew, was recently at the center of a media circus following his reported involvement in the Jeffrey Epstein scandal. Even though Andrew was stripped of his title, Eugenie is still a Princess.
Her mother, Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, is a well-known personality and author who rose to prominence in the 1980s. Fans came to know the Duchess affectionately as ‘Fergie.’ And yes, this was years before the Black Eyed Peas singer used the famous nickname. The Duchess of York and Andrew divorced in 1996, six years after Eugenie’s birth.
Who Are Princess Eugenie’s Children? The Princess already has two children—August Philip Hawke Brooksbank (born February 9, 2021) and Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank (born May 30, 2023). She shares both children with her husband, marketing executive Jack Brooksbank.

Congratulations!” while another pointed out the recent family controversy, adding, “It’s good to see that the King and Queen haven’t distanced themselves from Eugenie and Beatrice because of their parents’ mistakes. Children shouldn’t be implicated because of their parents’ errors.”

Nancy Guthrie Update: Speculation About Annie Guthrie and Tommaso Cioni Addressed by Brian Entin (Exclusive)
As the Nancy Guthrie investigation continues, so does the speculation about what might have happened to the 84-year-old. Despite Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos clearing the family in the case, many social media users still find themselves looking at those closest to Guthrie for answers.
In a new interview, NewsNation's Brian Entin tells Parade that he hasn't seen any evidence to support these theories, particularly about Guthrie's daughter, Annie Guthrie, and Annie's husband, Tommaso Cioni.
"The sheriff has made it clear that they are not suspects, that they've been cleared, so I think we just have to go on that," Entin says. "I've never seen any evidence that anyone in the family is involved."
"I feel bad for them, honestly. You think about the disappearance of Nancy—Annie's mom— and then to be raked over the coals like that on the Internet...it's pretty terrible," he adds.

Entin also told Parade that he's reached out to Annie and her husband in hopes of landing an interview, but he hasn't had "any luck."
Annie and Tommaso were the last two people to see Nancy before her abduction. According to the Pima County Sheriff's Department, Nancy took an Uber to their home, about 10 minutes away from her house, for dinner on Saturday, Jan. 31. Around 9:45 p.m. local time, Tommaso drove Nancy home, according to Sheriff Nanos. Authorities say they have proof that Nancy's garage went up around that time and down a couple of minutes later.
From that point forward, it's unclear what happened inside of Nancy's home. The FBI released footage of an armed individual wearing a face mask while on Nancy's front stoop the night she disappeared. However, the person has not yet been identified.

May the 4th Be With You 2026: Everything Happening in the Star Wars Galaxy Today
Every May 4th, fans around the world exchange the pun-turned-rallying-cry 'May the Fourth be with you', a play on the franchise's iconic phrase, 'May the Force be with you.' The date has been embraced by Lucasfilm and the Walt Disney Company as an annual celebration of Star Wars. And this year, there's a lot to celebrate. With a major streaming finale dropping today, a long-awaited theatrical film just 18 days away, and one of the biggest deal slates the franchise has ever produced, Star Wars Day 2026 is arguably the most packed one yet. Here's everything you need to know.
Maul – Shadow Lord Drops Its Season Finale TODAY on Disney+If you have Disney+, your plans are already made. Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, the animated series produced by Lucasfilm Animation, the same team behind The Clone Wars and Rebels, has its season finale dropping fittingly on Star Wars Day, May 4, 2026.
The 10-episode first season premiered on April 6, with two episodes releasing each week. Created by Dave Filoni, the show follows former Sith lord Maul as he rebuilds his criminal syndicate and seeks a new apprentice on the planet Janix during the reign of the Galactic Empire.
The final two episodes, Chapters 9 and 10, are titled 'Strange Allies' and 'Finale.' The tension heading in is high. Maul has faced a significant setback after many of his Mandalorian troops defected, and he remains in a difficult position against the Inquisitor Marrok while Imperial forces close in on Janix.
The series has earned strong reviews, with critics praising its dark, stylized animation. Jordan King of Empiredescribed the animation as 'gorgeously rendered,' positively comparing it to the final season of The Clone Wars, while Sarah El-Mahmoud at CinemaBlendsaid the quality was a notable step forward from prior animated entries.
Good news for fans already hooked: a second season of Maul – Shadow Lord has already been confirmed.
Where to watch: Disney+ — Episodes 9 & 10 are live now.
The First Star Wars Movie in 7 Years Is Almost HereToday is also the perfect day to buy your tickets, because Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu arrives in theaters on May 22, ending a seven-year absence of Star Wars from the big screen. The Rise of Skywalker was last released in 2019.
Directed by Jon Favreau, the film stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin alongside Sigourney Weaver andJeremy Allen White. Set after the fall of the Empire, Din Djarin and his young apprentice Grogu are enlisted by the fledgling New Republic to rescue Rotta the Hutt in exchange for crucial information on a target.
Filoni described the film as a 'big celebration' of the title characters, while Favreau has said newcomers don't need to have seen the Disney+ series to enjoy it, calling the approach 'like season one, episode one' for any first-timer to the franchise.
The film is the first in a new slate of Star Wars theatrical releases. Future projects already in development include Star Wars: Starfighter, set decades later, along with possible films centered on Daisy Ridley's Rey and a Filoni-directed feature.

This ‘Old Reliable’ Credit Card’s Travel Rewards Just Increased, But The Annual Fee Didn’t
If you have a certain "glimmering" card sitting in your wallet, you might want to give it a closer look. American Express just announced a major refresh for its iconic Gold Card, proving that even at 60 years old, this "old reliable" still knows how to keep up with the times.
The big news? Amex is piling on the travel and dining perks, but they aren't touching the $325 annual membership fee. While other premium cards seem to hike their prices every time they add a new bell or whistle, this update is focused purely on adding value for the people who actually use their cards for more than just a paperweight.

The Travel UpgradesIf you're someone who treats travel as a non-negotiable, you aren't alone. In fact, Amex's recent data shows that 74% of Millennials and Gen Z feel exactly the same way. To meet that demand, the Gold Card is significantly boosting its points game for hotel stays.
"For 60 years, the Gold Card has evolved alongside how our Card Members actually live," says Lisa Kalhans, Executive Vice President of U.S. Consumer Products at American Express. "These updates reflect how we’re continuing to build on that foundation, delivering more of what our Card Members value most and reinforcing why Gold remains one of our most well-rounded Cards."
Specifically, members will now earn 5X Membership Rewards points on prepaid hotels booked through AmexTravel.com or the Amex Travel App—a massive jump from the previous 2X. Plus, frequent flyers who need a car at the airport are getting a boost with complimentary Hertz Five Star status, which lets you skip the counter and snag vehicle upgrades when they’re available.

The Dining TweaksWhile the card is leaning harder into travel, it isn't forgetting its roots as the ultimate "foodie" card. The $120 annual dining credit (delivered in $10 monthly increments) has been updated to include new partners like Buffalo Wild Wings and Wonder, giving you more ways to earn back that annual fee while grabbing a quick bite.

Limited-Time Anniversary PerksBecause it's a 60th-anniversary celebration, Amex is also throwing in some "hidden" limited-time bonuses that you’ll want to jump on sooner rather than later:
- Uber One Credit: If you enroll by October 30, 2026, you can get a one-time statement credit of up to $96 to cover an annual Uber One membership.
- Hilton Points Bonus: Through May 30, 2026, you can get a 20% point bonus when you transfer your Membership Rewards points to a Hilton Honors account.
- Hotel Collection Deals: Through July 15, 2026, you can access special rates at over 250 properties, including offers like a complimentary third or fourth night.
Whether you're a points pro or just want a card that rewards you for your weekly grocery run and your yearly vacation, the Gold Card’s latest glow-up makes it a much stronger contender for that "top of wallet" spot.

1981 Ultimate Breakup Hit and ‘80s Rock Anthem Was Written in 15 Minutes
In 1981, the Greg Kihn Band scored a long-awaited hit single with “The Breakup Song.” The song, subtitled “They Don’t Write ‘Em,” appeared on the band’s sixth studio album, RocKihnRoll. The power-pop hit peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 in September 1981 as it told the tale of a breakup and the lack of good songs about the topic. It became a radio favorite and an anthem of the era in the early days of MTV.
In an interview with Music Recall magazine, Kihn revealed that when it came to penning his own breakup song, he had help from bass guitarist Steve Wright.
“I actually wrote that with Steve Wright," he shared in 2018. “We took the verses that I had written and wedded it to the chorus he had written, and the two songs fit effortlessly together.”
Written in minutesKihn, who died in 2024 at age 75, once shared the backstory on “The Breakup Song.” In an interview with Like Totally 80s, he recalled pulling up to his house in his band’s tour van and finding all of his belongings piled up on the lawn.
“And it was raining, and I thought, ‘Oh God, my first wife had done it’,” he said. “We pull up to the house, and I remember Steve, the bass player, looked at me and said, ‘Well, you might as well just keep on going. You’re not going in there.'"
The bandmates went to a Japanese restaurant where they began “pounding down hot sake.” “I didn’t know where else to go,” Kihn shared. “It was a cold, rainy night, and we were getting toasted. There was an old Japanese dude there at the sake bar, and he kept saying, ‘They don’t write ‘em like that anymore.’ I thought, ‘Yeah, damn. They don’t, do they?’ So we got the idea, we wrote that song probably in 15 minutes. All of the great songs are written quickly, by the way.”
RELATED: 1978’s Biggest No. 1 Hit Song Was Written in Ten Minutes
In an interview with Classic Rock Revisited, Kihn revealed that the “uh uh uhs” he uttered throughout the song weren’t originally planned.
“I had always intended to write more lyrics to fit in there, but like so much of rock and roll, it just happened spontaneously,” he explained. “Man, I'm glad I didn't change it, though. That song translates into any language and was a worldwide hit. All because I was short on lyrics and improved the uh-uhs in the studio.”
Would never happen todayIt was not lost on Kihn that going so many albums without a hit wouldn’t have flown in later years. He once told Classic Bands, "'The Break-Up Song’ came out. It was our first Top Ten hit. That was our seventh album. We'd already had seven albums out. We were getting FM turntable play without hit singles 'cause that's the way it was back in those days. We would book a tour, rent a van pretty much, and drive all over, but you could play."
“The record business has completely changed since then,” he added. “Seven albums without a hit? Go figure. It's not gonna happen.”
He also expressed gratitude for the long-overdue hit. "It wasn't until ‘The Breakup Song’ that we really exploded on the scene,” Kihn told Like Totally 80s. “I can tell you that life with a hit record is much better than life without a hit record.”

What Is Lag BaOmer? All About the Festive Jewish Holiday
The Jewish holidayLag BaOmer falls in May each year, and it's one of the most festive days on the Hebrew calendar. If you see a lot of Jewish celebrants at bonfires and street fairs—or hosting big weddings or even just getting haircuts—Lag BaOmer is probably why.
Learn about when Lag BaOmer is in 2026, why it's celebrated and more.

Lag BaOmer is a Jewish holiday that usually falls in the spring. According to Chabad, Lag BaOmer celebrates the life of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, who was the first to teach the Kabbalah part of the Torah. He is credited as the author of the Kabbalah text called the Zohar.
When Is Lag BaOmer 2026?Lag BaOmer is always on the 18th day of the month of Iyar in the Hebrew calendar. In the secular calendar, the holiday begins at sundown on May 4 and ends at sundown on May 5, 2026.
Why Is Lag BaOmer Celebrated?Lag BaOmer is celebrated for two different reasons. One is the end of a deadly plague that is believed to have killed 24,000 students of Rabbi Akiva Ben Yosef. Lag BaOmer marks the end of a 32-day grieving period for Akiva Yosef's followers.
The other is a celebration of the life of Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, a highly respected Jewish sage who lived around the same time as Ben Yosef and asked that the end of his life be marked as a joyous occasion, not a sorrowful one.

What Do You Do on Lag BaOmer?Canva/Parade
Lag BaOmer is often celebrated with bonfires, street festivals and parades. Many celebrants spend time outdoors taking in the beauty of nature.
Marking the end of a mourning period, many Jewish people hold weddings and other big parties on Lag BaOmer. There are huge city-wide celebrations in Meron, northern Israel, where Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai is buried.
Many people eat carob, a fruit native to the Mediterranean, during Lag BaOmer as a tribute to Rabbi Shimon, who survived on it with his son when they were hiding from the Romans, Chabad notes. Eggs are also often eaten as a symbol of mourning.

Translated from Hebrew, "La Ba'Omer" literally means "33rd [day] of Omer." Think of it in terms of our "Fourth of July" or "Cinco de Mayo," but obviously with a much different significance.
Are You Allowed to Get a Haircut on Lag BaOmer? You can indeed get a haircut on Lag BaOmer. In fact, for some of the Jewish faith, it's the date when their children get their very first haircuts.
Related: The Meaning of Yom Kippur
Children often play with archery-themed toys or actual bows and arrows for Lag BaOmer. This stems from the word "keshet," which translates to both "bow" and "rainbow" in Hebrew, according to Chabad.
In the Jewish faith, it is believed that after the Great Flood, God used a rainbow as a sign that he would never destroy the world by flood ever again; rainbows have been associated in the religion with the world (or portions of it) deserving punishment. Sages proclaimed that during Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai's life, rainbows weren't necessary and didn't appear because his goodness protected the entire world. The bows and arrows signify that following his death, rainbows are now needed.
There is no specific greeting for Lag BaOmer, but many celebrants wish one another "chag sameach," or "happy holiday."

Brian Wilson's 1968 Ode to Simpler Times is Ranked as One of His Very Best Songs
In 1968, Brian Wilson wrote an ode to the good old days, and it has since been ranked as one of his very best songs.
"Do It Again" was written by Wilson and Beach Boys member Mike Love. The cousins' songwriting partnership formed the basis for many of their band's earliest hits.
A sense of nostalgia for the early '60s was prevalent in the tune, which Rolling Stone ranked as one of Wilson's best songs ever. Additionally, the song captured Wilson’s growing shift toward more introspective, deeply personal songwriting.
"Do It Again" was released as a standalone single in July 1968 and peaked at No. 20 in September, remaining on the Billboard chart for 10 weeks. It would later be added to the collection of songs that made up the band's 15th studio album, 20/20, released in 1969.

Rolling Stone wrote, "Mike Love and Brian Wilson were one of the all-time great songwriting partnerships in the first half of the sixties, and though Wilson’s genius eventually sent him searching for other collaborators in the decade’s second half, the two very different cousins reunited in 1968 for one perfect throwback."
RELATED: Brian Wilson’s 1964 Ultimate Romantic Classic Was Inspired by a Comforting Moment
Wilson told American Songwriter, "'Do It Again' was written at Mike’s house in Beverly Hills. He and I wrote that song together in about 45 minutes. It came very fast. He came up with that lyric so fast I couldn’t believe it."
The lyrics were inspired by a day of surfing with an old friend, grounding the song in personal memory. It intentionally echoed the band’s early '60s surf sound and featured Wilson and Love sharing lead vocals.

Love recalled to The Guardian, "For 'Do It Again.' I came back from a surfing trip with some high school buddies and said, 'Hey Brian, I just went to the beach, and the waves and the girls were great. We've got to do a song called 'Do It Again.'"
The singer and songwriter added, "[Wilson] remembers it being at my house. I remember it as being at his house. He starts pounding at the piano; I was summoning up the words, and we got a chorus together, which was basically a bunch of doo-wop-inspired harmonies. We created that whole song in 15 minutes."
In 2011, the surviving Beach Boys, Brian Wilson, Mike Love, Al Jardine, Bruce Johnston, with the addition of David Marks, re-recorded "Do It Again" as part of their 50th anniversary celebration.
In 1995, Wilson rerecorded the song for his album I Just Wasn't Made for These Times and performed it on Late Night with David Letterman with his daughter, Wilson Phillips singer Wendy Wilson. In 1996 and 1997, Love rerecorded and released his own version of "Do It Again."
More than just a nostalgic nod, Brian Wilson's "Do It Again" stands as a reminder of how he could turn simple moments into something timeless. Decades later, the song still resonates.

The Iconic San Francisco Hotel Where Tony Bennett First Left His Heart Turns 119 Today
If you stand atop Nob Hill today, looking out over the Golden Gate Bridge, you're standing at the epicenter of San Francisco’s resilience.
On May 4, 1907, the Fairmont San Francisco officially opened its doors—exactly one year after the 1906 Great Earthquake and Fire. The building had been nearly finished when the quake hit, and while it survived the tremors, it was gutted by the subsequent fires. Its opening wasn't just a hotel debut; it was the signal to the world that San Francisco had been reborn.
Under the direction of Julia Morgan, California’s first female licensed architect who would later design Hearst Castle, the Fairmont became the first major business to open its doors following the devastating 1906 earthquake.
The grand opening was a legendary affair that people still talk about over a century later. To celebrate the city’s survival, the hotel hosted an extravagant fête where guests were treated to 13,000 oysters and "rivers of champagne" that flowed throughout the night, all while a spectacular display of fireworks lit up the San Francisco sky.
As the story goes, the celebration was so impactful that it solidified the hotel's reputation as a landmark "so grand they built a city around it." It wasn’t just a place for travelers to rest; it was a triumphant toast to the enduring spirit of the Golden City.
The hotel’s significance shifted from social to global in 1945. It was in the Fairmont’s Garden Room (now the Garden Court) that delegates from 50 nations met to draft the United Nations Charter. It wasn't just a place to sleep; it was the "Little White House" where the world sought to ensure a lasting peace.

As Flaunt Magazine notes: "…the past residence for U.S. presidents, world leaders, and entertainment stars, the Fairmont San Francisco has a reputation for expert service and hospitality as well as incredible history."
Travelers today still flock here to ride the only three cable car lines that meet right at the hotel’s front door, or to sip a Mai Tai in the legendary Tonga Room. As noted by Visit California, the Fairmont "harkens back to an opulent era in San Francisco history" where "dressing up for dinner still makes sense." It is the kind of place where, as architectural photographers have noted, just entering the lobby "feels like a special occasion."
Whether you’re visiting to see where Tony Bennett first sang "I Left My Heart in San Francisco" in the Venetian Room or just to soak in the Julia Morgan-designed architecture, the Fairmont remains the gold standard for "old-world" elegance. Happy 119th to the "Grand Dame of Nob Hill."
