Hayden Panettiere's Mom Slams Brian Hickerson After Daughter's Death

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 1:32pm

Hayden Panettiere‘s mom is speaking out for the first time since her daughter shockingly died at the age of 36 on Sunday, Aug. 16.

The Nashville actress’ mom, Lesley Vogel, is speaking out against her late daughter’s on-again, off-again boyfriend Brian Hickerson in her first interview since Panettiere’s death.

In an interview with NBC News, Vogel said Hickerson is a “person in her life that we have been trying to get rid of for quite some time.”

Hickerson and his brother, Zach, were present when Panettiere died in a Greenville, South Carolina, apartment on Sunday, per TMZ.

“I think Hayden was an amazingly talented person in so many departments and I think young people who grow up in the entertainment industry — it is a struggle and it’s a very challenging industry and it’s not unusual for them to sadly find the wrong path,” Vogel continued.

In a May appearance on the On Purpose With Jay Shetty podcast, Panettiere revealed that she had a strained relationship with Vogel after cutting ties with her business-wise at age 19 while filming Heroes.

Hickerson and Panettiere met and started dating in 2018 following her split from Wladimir Klitschko, with whom she shares 11-year-old daughter Kaya.

During their relationship, Panettiere accused Hickerson of domestic violence multiple times, with Hickerson being arrested in 2019, 2020, and 2021 due to incidents involving Panettiere.

“I am coming forward with the truth about what happened to me with the hope that my story will empower others in abusive relationships to get the help they need and deserve,” Panettiere said following Hickerson’s 2020 arrest, according to People. “I am prepared to do my part to make sure this man never hurts anyone again. I’m grateful for my support system, which helped me find the courage to regain my voice and my life.”

The couple broke up in 2022 but later rekindled their romance. In the months leading up to the actress’ death, the duo kept their relationship under wraps, as people on Panettiere’s team reportedly felt Hickerson was “bad for business” while she was promoting her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning.

In an interview with TMZ earlier this year, Hickerson admitted to abusing Panettiere and supported her covering it in her book, saying, “I think it’s great. I think everyone should read it. I mean, the domestic violence stuff my chapter, everybody should read it.”

Panettiere’s father, Skip Panettiereconfirmed her death to ABC News late Sunday evening.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” Skip said in a statement.

He asked for privacy “as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss.”

Police told NBC News that they, “accompanied by EMS personnel, responded to a report of an unresponsive female” at around 1:50 p.m. ET on Sunday.

According to dispatch audio obtained by People, law enforcement officials were heard discussing an “overdose” and “cardiac arrest” around the time of Panettiere’s death.

“I don’t have any more information at this time, but it’s looking as though that is the case,” a representative for Panettiere told the publication.

Ella Langley's Songwriter Speaks Out About Country Star's 'Integrity' Amid Record-Breaking Chart Run

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 1:21pm

They say never meet your heroes, but that phrase won’t apply should you happen to bump into Ella Langley.

Not only is she the hottest thing in country music right now — actually, she’s No. 1 in all of music! — she’s good people, too, according to one of her songwriters.

Helene Cronin, a Texas-based songwriter who co-penned Langley’s song “Speaking Terms,” reunited with the “Choosin’ Texas” hitmaker at her show in Fort Worth, Texas, over the weekend. She’s still riding the high and can’t seem to say enough good things about the star.

“Because of her, the song is doing healing work in the world! She’s changing the world. She’s changed my life!” Cronin writes in a lengthy Instagram post, touting that Langley never even asked for writing credit on “Speaking Terms,” which she produced.

“That’s integrity y’all,” the songwriter confirms. The song is track No. 10 on Langley’s new Dandelion album. Popular country songwriter Joybeth Taylor is also a co-writer.

“It was a lifetime high point to go to her Ft. Worth show Saturday, run backstage, say hi, get a hug, get a couple of pics, then to hear the crowd yelling for an encore, to have her come out alone with a guitar and sing ‘Speaking Terms,” to hear the sell-out crowd sing along to every word,” Cronin contiunues in her post, which concludes with a thank you to Langley and a “Thank you Jesus.”

Langley proved her right in the comments, responding to Cronin, “So special. Thank you for letting me have this song.”

When Are Ella Langley’s Next Tour Dates?

It’s a miracle that she has time to breathe, much less scroll social media right now. Langley is in a history-making chart run on the Billboard Hot 100 with “Choosin’ Texas,” and her new duet with Koe Wetzel, “Jaded,” has already hit the same chart, which is an all-genre chart.

After three sold-out shows in Texas over the weekend, Langley will have a minute to freshen up and have a snack before she’s back at it for the second leg of her Dandelion Tour, which kicks off Thursday, Aug. 20, in Wisconsin, then Aug. 21 in Springfield, Ill., and Aug. 22 in Little Rock, Ark. From there it’s pretty much nonstop shows until Halloween.

The Internet Is Rediscovering Hayden Panettiere’s 1998 Disney Role Many Fans Forgot

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 1:20pm

Hayden Panettiere’s death on Aug. 16 at just 36 years old has shocked fans and countless others in the entertainment industry, with tributes pouring in from many of her former co-stars, fans who have looked up to her for decades and myriad others. In addition to social media posts singing the late star’s praises and expressing grief over her loss, many clips from throughout her career have been shared, whether that’s actual scenes in which she performed or red carpet moments.

Among those have been both clips and red carpet interviews with young Panettiere for the 1998 Disney movie A Bug’s Life, in which Panettiere voiced one of the main characters, Princess Dot. Shots of Panettiere voicing the role behind the scenes, clips from the actual movie and interviews in which she was just 8 or 9 years old have circulated online in the last few days, which has shocked many fans who had forgotten (or had never known, perhaps because this was a voice acting role for an animated movie) that Panettiere played the part.

One video, posted by Entertainment Tonight on Instagram, shows young Panettiere on the red carpet, sharing that this will be her first time seeing the movie in front of a big audience. The comments are flooded with kind words for the actress, with many also adding that they had no idea she played Dot. One such comment reads, “Hayden was Princess Dot????? 🥺.” Another says, “Been her fan forever and this was one of my favorite movies…I never knew she was Dot.”

View this post on Instagram

Many of the comments are also highlighting how talented and professional Panettiere was, even at such a young age. One commenter wrote, “Wise beyond her time ❤️,” and another said, “Such an angel face, so sweet and naturally talented 🤍💔.”

A similar video, shared on TikTok, shows Panettiere voicing Dot behind the scenes and giving an interview about what it’s like on set. Once again, the comments are full of reactions from surprised fans who had never realized she voiced the role. One comment, which incudes a gif of a crying person, says, “SHE WAS PRINCESS DOT?!?!?,” and another echoes, “WAIT WHAT? NOW I’M GONNA CRY MORE 😭😭😭 I never knew this. This was my favorite movie as a kid.”

'Dance Moms' Star to Make Broadway Debut

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 1:05pm

Mackenzie Ziegler has made her way from the dance studio to the Broadway stage.

Ziegler, now 22, first became known during her time on Dance Moms at just 7 years old. This fall, she will be starring as Charmion in the musical & Juliet, according to the Broadway production’s announcement on Tuesday.

View this post on Instagram

Since audiences first met Ziegler on the Lifetime show, which aired from 2011 to 2019, she’s established herself as an actress and singer, who now goes by Kenzie.

Melissa Gisoni, Kenzie’s mom, who also starred on the show and now hosts a podcast recapping the fan-favorite program, took to social media to congratulate her daughter on her latest venture.

“Incredibly proud that Kenzie is joining the cast of & Juliet on Broadway! Her Broadway debut — what a dream come true!” she shared on Facebook.

Kenzie will be taking the stage from September 15th through November 1st.

Dance Moms followed students of Abby Lee Miller‘s competition dance studio, which included Ziegler and her sister Maddie, and the drama that ensued among their mothers. Kenzie was the youngest of the dancers, with her age often becoming a source of a storyline.

Kenzie isn’t the only Dance Moms alum to hit the theater this year. In April, Nia Sioux starred in Off-Broadway’s 11 to Midnight, alongside Secret Lives of Mormon Wives alum Conner Leavitt. Maddie has also gone on to have a career in the arts, dancing alongside Sia in her music videos and starring in several films.

JoJo Siwa, 23, perhaps the breakout star of the show, also has her own music career as a pop icon and appeared on Dancing with the Stars in 2021.

And while the girls seem to have gone their separate ways, a few reunited earlier this year to celebrate the wedding of co-star Brooke Hyland. Kenzie, Sioux, Kendall VertesChloe LukasiakKalani Hilliker, along with a few of their mothers, were all in attendance to celebrate the big day.

Sports Television Visionary Behind The Creation of ESPN Dies at 93

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 12:47pm

Bill Rasmussen, the visionary behind the creation of ESPN, the world’s first 24-hour television network, has died at the age of 93 on Tuesday, Aug. 18, ESPN reports.

Rasmussen passed at his home in Florida from the effects of Parkinson’s disease. He was diagnosed with the disease in 2014, but shared the news with the public in 2019.

“Bill was a remarkable man — a visionary and an innovator who conceived the idea of a network entirely devoted to sports,” ESPN chairman Jimmy Pitaro said in a statement. “Quite simply, none of us would be here today if it wasn’t for Bill’s passion and all the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit he put into building ESPN in the late 1970s — key aspects of our company culture that still carry on to this day.”

Rasmussen founded ESPN alongside his son Scott on Sept. 7, 1979, and he served as the network’s first president and CEO. However, he was forced out by ESPN majority owner Getty Oil after only a year.

“Bill was our George Washington and a good friend,” veteran anchor Chris Berman said. “He was such a grateful person and every sports fan can be grateful for Bill. He wasn’t a glass half-full guy; his glass was always overflowing with optimism. He greeted everyone with a smile and we can all smile knowing Bill’s legacy.”

Mike Soltys, who was an ESPN historian who was hired by Rasmussen in 1980 as his first intern, shared a statement with The Athletic following his passing.

“My career, and thousands of others, came about because of Bill’s passion and belief in his idea. His warm approach and quick wit endeared him to everyone he met. It has been a joy to be his friend and celebrate ESPN’s success with him for 46 years.”

Rasmussen was inducted into the Broadcasting Hall of Fame in 2025.

Solange Knowles Pays Emotional Tribute To 'Bring It On: All or Nothing' Co-star Hayden Panettiere After Her Death at 36

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 12:35pm

Solange Knowles is remembering her “Bring It On: All or Nothing” co-star, Hayden Panettiere, paying tribute to the actress in an emotional Instagram post.

“Rest in peace hayden. in peace, because you are so deserving of it,” she wrote on her story. “We had so many parallels in our lives, and the world watched u so courageously live in your radical truth, telling your story: we watched your endless quest for vulnerability and healing.

“i salute your journey and i honor the work we created together that became something that really means something to people… reaching people we couldn’t have ever imagined at the time, as two young girls, trying to keep looking to the light,” she continued. “the light surrounds you now. rest easy hayden.”

She also included a photo of the two from the movie.

Knowles played cheerleading captain Camille in the 2006 film. She initially clashes with Panettiere’s character, Britney Allen, who transferred to the school from a wealthy prep school. Other cast members from the movie also paid tribute to Panettiere, including Francia Raisa, who played Leti.

“I’ve been stuck since last night. I can’t believe this,” she wrote on Instagram. “Rest well my Bring It On sis.”

Gustavo Carr, who played Panettiere’s love interest Jess, shared a photo of them together, captioning the post, “You are a light, Hayden. A muse. An artist. An old soul, wise beyond your years. The kind of person people loved to work with and felt lucky to know.”

“I hope you knew you were seen and loved. So much life lived, and still far too soon. I wish there had been one more hug,” he continued. “Rest peacefully, Hayden. Sending all my love to your daughter, your family, and everyone who loved you.”

Panettiere was found dead in a Greenville, South Carolina residence on Sunday, Aug. 16, after authorities responded to reports of an unresponsive female in cardiac arrest. Police have said there were “no signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances”.

Hayden Panettiere Death Update: New Police Report Details On-and-Off Boyfriend Brian Hickerson's Reaction at Scene

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 12:21pm

WARNING: This story contains sensitive information that some readers might find upsetting.

Hayden Panettiere tragically died on Sunday, Aug. 16, after being found inside a residence in Greenville, South Carolina. She was 36 years old.

And new information continues to come out surrounding her death, with a police report obtained by NBC News detailing that her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, was on the scene when first responders arrived. He along with his brother were with the actress and directed police to a “bag of medication” that she was taking, the report details.

According to the responding officer on the scene, Zach Hickerson was “very emotional,” while Brian was not visibly emotional until Panettiere was declared dead.

Hickerson and Panettiere had a tumultuous relationship, with Brian being arrested numerous times over the years on charges including domestic violence in 2019 and 2020.  The actress released a statement following his 2020 arrest, saying that she was “coming forward with the truth about what happened to me in the hope that my story will empower others in abusive relationships to get the help they need and deserve.”

“I am prepared to do my part to make sure this man never hurts anyone again,” she continued.

In 2021, he pleaded no contest to two counts of injuring a partner. He was ultimately sentenced to 45 days in jail, four years of formal probation, 52 domestic violence classes, $500 in restitution and a five-year protective order.

However, the two appeared to have reconnected after being spotted together in March at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). According to an insider who spoke with Page Six, Panettiere kept some of her friends “in the dark” regarding their reconciliation.

“If Brian was back in her life, then it was something she was hiding because she wasn’t speaking about it with many of her friends,” a source told the outlet. “If you’ve gone through some dark times with people, and spoken about it, then there can be shame if you get back together with that same person.

“So maybe that was why she hadn’t mentioned it to us.”

Millions Could Be Affected by Costco’s New Medicare Plans

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 12:15pm

Costco is expanding its growing health care business in a major new direction: Medicare.

The warehouse retailer announced Tuesday that it is partnering with SCAN Group, a nonprofit health care organization focused on Medicare, to launch Costco-branded Medicare plans. The move marks Costco’s first collaboration with a Medicare plan and gives the retailer a new foothold in the massive health insurance market.

The rollout will initially be limited.

Costco and SCAN plan to offer Medicare Advantage plans in two states and a Medicare supplement plan in a third. The companies said the three initial markets collectively include about 5 million Medicare enrollees, but they have not yet disclosed which states will be included or when the plans will become available. Those details are pending regulatory approval.

For Costco shoppers, the announcement is notable because the company says the new plans are intended to work alongside services and products many older adults already use at Costco.

What Costco’s New Medicare Plans Will Include

The companies say the Medicare Advantage plans will be designed to connect with Costco’s existing health-related offerings, including its pharmacy, optical services, hearing products, over-the-counter items and food.

Costco already has a relationship with SCAN. The retailer’s pharmacy website identifies Costco as a preferred pharmacy for SCAN Health Plan members and highlights access to Costco Pharmacy and Optical services.

Costco also already accepts Medicare Advantage prepaid benefits cards at its registers. The retailer says those cards can generally be used for eligible over-the-counter products and other health and wellness purchases, depending on the member’s individual plan.

The new partnership would take that relationship a step further by putting Costco’s name directly on Medicare products.

Costco Membership Won’t Be Included

There’s one important detail Costco members shouldn’t assume: the new Medicare plans won’t come with a Costco membership.

That’s because federal rules prevent the retailer from bundling a Costco membership with the Medicare plans. Instead, the plans will be available through Costco stores as well as more traditional channels, including insurance agents and websites.

The plans also won’t necessarily be limited to Costco members.

For now, Costco is describing the Medicare initiative as a pilot. The company says it plans to learn from the initial rollout before determining the right products and approach for its members and customers.

Why Costco Is Moving Into Medicare

The move comes as Costco continues to expand beyond its traditional warehouse business and add services that can make its membership more valuable.

The retailer already has offerings ranging from its pharmacy and optical departments to travel packages, gas stations and other services. Its Medicare partnership represents another way to connect the Costco brand with an everyday need for a large segment of its customer base.

Medicare is also a huge market. CMS projects that Medicare Advantage enrollment will reach about 34 million people in 2026, representing approximately 48% of all Medicare beneficiaries.

Exactly what Costco’s plans will cost, what benefits they will offer and where they will initially be available remain unknown.

For now, Costco shoppers will have to wait for the company and SCAN to announce the participating states and launch details.

Ethan Suplee Recalls Heroin Use at 'Remember the Titans' Premiere While Honoring Hayden Panettiere

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 12:12pm

Ethan Suplee joins the list of actors paying their respects to the late Hayden Panettiere and opens up in his tribute post about having done heroin during the premiere of the 2000 sports drama.

Having been an actor since childhood, one of Panettiere’s acclaimed roles was in Remember the Titans as Sheryl Yoast. The actor was announced to have died on Sunday, Aug. 16, from an apparent drug overdose after a neighbor found her unresponsive in her home. The Heroes star has spoken openly, and even published a memoir, speaking about her battle with substance abuse and postpartum depression.

As many co-stars pay their respects to the actor, Suplee also posted in remembrance of Panettiere on Substack. Suplee played the role of Louie Lastik in Remember the Titans alongside the actor and spoke about the night of the 2000 premiere at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif.

“On the red carpet, Hayden Panettiere the ten-year-old girl from the movie, ran up to me, leapt into my arms, and gave me a big hug,” he wrote on his Substack. “Holding her I was lighter, some of her energy and innocence washed over me, and for a moment my smile was genuine.”

He would go on to add that he “went from the press line to the bathroom and smoked heroin.” The actor added that he had been late to the cast meetup with their real-life counterparts and realized that Lastik wasn’t overweight like he was. In that moment, “I imagined his disappointment at seeing who they’d gotten to play him. So I went back to the bathroom and smoked heroin.”

View this post on Instagram

On Substack, Suplee added that he had felt upset during the premiere as he had broken one of the wheels of the gold cart due to his weight.

“While the movie played, I sat in the bathroom, cried, and smoked heroin. I saw Hayden one last time, as we made our way out of the stadium. Once again, she leapt into my arms, and once again I felt some relief. I didn’t die of an accidental overdose that night. But I went to bed believing I wouldn’t wake up, and that didn’t seem so bad. Better than whatever a new day offered,” he revealed.

In his post, he also references actor Harold Pruitt, who died of an overdose in 2002, the same reported way that Panettiere did. He adds having not known what they were going through, but knowing “for them, the battle is over. And I’m sad.” Suplee’s post ends with the “miracle” of his life having been getting help for his drug abuse, and he entered rehab in 2001 and had been sober since.

If you or someone you know is struggling with addiction, help is available 24 hours a day through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Hotline at 1-800-662-4357.

The performance eventually took place Sept. 26 as part of the Opry’s centennial celebration, bringing the Nashville institution to one of London’s most famous venues.

Opry announcer Kelly Sutton and BBC Radio 2’s Vernon Kay hosted the show, which celebrated the Grand Ole Opry’s first century while highlighting the growing international reach of country music.

In addition to individual sets from the performers, the night featured several collaborations created especially for the historic occasion.

Combs and Pearce performed “I Hope You’re Happy Now,” while Stuart teamed with McBryde for “The Whiskey Ain’t Workin’.”

Combs also joined Marcus Mumford for a rendition of the Willie Nelson classic “Always on My Mind,” and Rucker performed “Wagon Wheel” with Breabach.

How to Watch ‘Grand Ole Opry: Live in London’

Fans won’t have to wait much longer to see the performances for themselves.

Part 1 of Grand Ole Opry: Live in London will air Saturday, Aug. 22, at 9 p.m. ET/8 p.m. CT. Part 2 will follow one week later on Saturday, Aug. 29, at the same time.

Both parts will be available via livestream on the Grand Ole Opry’s official Facebook page and YouTube channel. The specials will also be available through digital streaming partners Circle Country and RFD-TV.

The two-night broadcast comes nearly 11 months after the London performance and gives fans who couldn’t make it to the sold-out Royal Albert Hall show a chance to see one of the most unusual nights in the Opry’s century-long history.

The Grand Ole Opry was founded in Nashville in 1925 and celebrated its 100th anniversary throughout 2025.

When the London performance was originally announced, Dan Rogers, senior vice president and executive producer of the Grand Ole Opry, reflected on just how far the institution’s reach had extended.

“The magical thing about the Opry is how many lives it’s touched over the past 100 years,” Rogers said. “No matter where you live, when you listen to country music, all roads eventually lead to the Grand Ole Opry.”

For one history-making night, that road led all the way to London.

Which Lucky Star Guides Your Path, According To Your Birth Date

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 12:11pm

According to birth date numerology and astrology, each birth date has a lucky star that can help guide and bless its spiritual path.

It’s true—we’re all made of star-stuff. When reading your horoscope, you often read about the alignments of the Sun, Moon, and the planets in our solar system. But beyond the planets, the stars you see twinkling above you at night each carry their own ancient wisdom—and one of them has been guiding you all along.

While there are an infinite number of stars, some have been followed by ancient astrologers for their auspicious meanings. Your connection to the stars is unique and personal, which is defined in your birth chart. But your birthday’s number alone, ruled by one of the planets, connects you to one of the luckiest stars—find yours below!

Which Fortunate Star Guides You, According To The Day You Were Born

Check the day you were born; disregard the birth month.

Born on the 1st, 10th, 19th, or 28th — Regulus

The brightest star in the night sky, Sirius sits in the constellation Canis Major and has long held an important place in ancient Egyptian spiritual traditions. 'DWTS' Icon Derek Hough Shares Teary-Eyed On-Stage Moment With Mom During Final Night of 'Symphony' Tour

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 12:10pm

Derek Hough brought his mom on stage during the final night of his Symphony of Dance: Encore tour and shared a sweet story with the audience.

On Sunday night’s stop in Las Vegas, the Dancing with the Stars icon called his mom, Marriann Hough up on stage in a tender moment where the two were visibly emotional in footage captured by producer John Pascarella and shared by Hello! Canada.

“I often get asked, ‘How did you get into dancing?’ and it was my mom,” he said to the crowd while the two were hugging.

“And she made me go,” he joked. “I did not want to go.”

Derek went on to explain that his four sisters, including fellow DWTS staple Julianne Hough, went to dance class and “I was just sitting around kicking rocks in the parking lot.” He says his mom suggested he go inside and “learn something.”

Resistant at first, because “it’s for girls,” he recalled saying, Derek then gave in.

“Then I walked in I was like, ‘Oh there’s girls in here and I like the ratio,'” he joked and ended his story with “I love you, mom.”

Fans, of course, loved seeing the mother-son dynamic on stage and praised their sweet relationship in the post’s comments:

  • “So so so so sweet you’re a great son and she’s obviously a great mom to have raised you and Julianne,” one said. “You’ve turned out perfectly and the entertainment business that’s hard to say lotta people don’t stay normal and grounded and you too.”
  • “Beautiful recognition/appreciation for her,” another added.
  • “How beautiful is this!!!” gushed a third.

Derek’s Symphony of Dance: Encore tour kicked off in June and made stops all around the country. His wife Hayley Erbert also joined the tour, and the new parents also brought along their baby, Everley, who was born in December of last year.

As the tour has wrapped, Hough took to Instagram thanking everyone involved.

“The relationships and bonds we formed mean everything to me,” he wrote. “I’ll always cherish them. This chapter closes with a full heart. Onward to what’s next.”

Concerns Pour in Over Ozzfest Return After 8 Years

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 12:07pm

Eight years after the last festival, Ozzfest is officially returning in 2027. However, as plans for the highly anticipated event roll out, fans are raising concerns over one major issue.

In a post shared by Ozzfest’s official Instagram, the festival announced that the legendary metal festival will take place at Aston Villa’s Villa Park.

Moreover, the post teased fans that “more info on everything [is] coming soon!” with details about the Ozzfest 2027 dates and lineup still to be announced.

Meanwhile, the update sparked excitement as fans looked forward to the event, with some speculating about the bands participating in the much-anticipated event.

“OG Black Sabbath with guest vocalists would be great,” one wrote.

However, amid the anticipation and renewed excitement from fans, others expressed concern about the show’s venue.

With the stadium having a capacity of 42,000 according to Billboard, others think that this might be “too small” for the event, especially since this will be a special occasion given that Ozzfest 2027 will be the first festival since Ozzy Osbourne’s death.

View this post on Instagram

“Too small, can’t it be in a field somewhere, like Donington?? Tickets will sell out so fast, so many people will miss out, just like Ozzy’s last gig,” one wrote.

“Needs a bigger venue, go back to Milton Keynes Bowl,” a commenter said.

“Should do it in a bigger venue so people don’t miss out,” a fan echoed.

The same goes for another fan who recommended two possible locations, saying “Knebworth or MK Bowl would have been better venues.”

“What a terrible venue. Back to the beginning was so good, but the venue itself was shocking. Literally 90-minute queues for a beer. Do it elsewhere,” a follower said.

The late Ozzy Osbourne’s wife Sharon Osbourne and their daughter Kelly Osbourne are spearheading the revival of Ozzfest for 2027.

In a previous interview with Billboard, the 73-year-old widow spoke about how important Ozzfest was to her late husband.

“It was something Ozzy was very passionate about: giving young talent a stage in front of a lot of people,” she said. “We really started metal festivals in this country. It was [replicated but] never done with the spirit of what ours was, because ours was a place for new talent. It was like summer camp for kids.”

As for the location, the place was deeply personal for the late music icon as this was the location of Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne’s 2025 farewell show, Back to the Beginning.

Moreover, growing up in Aston, Birmingham, directly fueled the Prince of Darkness’ lifelong passion for the football club, making him a devoted fan of Aston Villa F.C.

1960s R&B Pioneer, Famous for Reimagining an Iconic Beatles Billboard No. 1 Hit, Celebrates Her 87th Birthday Today

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 12:04pm

Maxine Brown is celebrating her 87th birthday today, marking nearly seven decades since she became one of the defining voices of 1960s R&B.

Born in Kingstree, South Carolina, and raised singing in New York gospel circles as a teenager, Brown signed with Wand Records in 1963 and built a run of hits that helped shape the sound of uptown soul. Her self-written ‘All in My Mind’ reached No. 2 on the R&B chart in 1960, and she followed it with the Carole King and Gerry Goffin-penned ‘Oh No Not My Baby,’ a top-30 pop hit in 1964. She also recorded a string of duets with fellow Wand artist Chuck Jackson, including ‘Something You Got,’ which hit No. 10 on the R&B chart.

One of the more surprising footnotes in her catalog: a 1966 soul rendition of the Beatles’ ‘We Can Work It Out,’ recorded the same year the original topped the Billboard Hot 100. Decades later, the cover still turns up on Beatles tribute compilations and best-covers lists.

Brown’s Wand recordings carried an unexpected Elvis Presley connection, too, her background vocals were performed by Cissy Houston and the Sweet Inspirations, the same group that backed Presley in the studio, alongside a young Nick Ashford and Valerie Simpson.

According to several retrospectives on her career, that same Ashford and Simpson partnership led to one of soul music’s most talked-about near-misses. The songwriting duo reportedly shopped a catalog of material written with Brown and Jackson in mind to another label first; when that deal fell through, they brought the songs to Motown instead, where one eventually became ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough,’ the Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell classic.

Brown kept recording into the early 1970s before stepping back from the spotlight. Though she never reached the crossover superstardom of some peers, she remains a touchstone for soul historians and fans, who mark her birthday every year celebrating a voice they feel never got its full due.

1962 Folk Song, Written by 20-Year-Old Bonnie Dobson, Became an Unintentional Rock Staple

Tue, 08/18/2026 - 11:44am

Bonnie Dobson would end up creating an anti-nuke protest song, “Morning Dew,” that went through various changes since its release and became a rock classic for many artists.

A contemporary folk singer from Canada, Dobson was in her 20s when she wrote the track centered around a fictional conversation between a man and a woman after an apocalyptic catastrophe. While her vocals sound angelic, the topic of the song’s creation came from her and her friends talking about nuclear destruction.

According to LouderSound, Dobson recalls how everyone at the time was “gloomy” long before the Cuban Missile Crisis. It wasn’t out of the ordinary for people to believe that “atomic annihilation” was imminent. Dobson would also be inspired by a 1959 sci-fi war film titled On the Beach, starring Gregory Peck, Ava Gardner, Fred Astaire, and Anthony Perkins.

“A few months earlier I’d seen the movie On The Beach. It describes the end of the world viewed from the southern hemisphere, and they’re waiting for the fallout. Anthony Perkins plays a character in the navy and he’s talking to his wife about committing suicide and killing their daughter before the radiation hits. It’s extremely bleak,” she explained.

“That evening I went back to my little room. I had the lines and the chords in my head. I wrote Morning Dew in minutes. It was the first song I’d ever written. I played it down the phone to a girl I knew, and she said: ‘Yeah, not bad.’”

The track never actually landed on the charts and was included in her album Bonnie Dobson at Folk City. What no one expected was for the track to be covered by rock artists like the Grateful Dead and to go through some legal issues. One of the earliest known covers was by The Briarwood Singers, and a few more were recorded before being released by Tim Rose in 1967.

Dobson once admitted she was a bit naive for having performed the song live before it was recorded, as Rose claimed he had written the majority of “Morning Dew.” He solicited permission to revise the song, with a resultant co-writing credit.

“I never met Tim Rose, but I went to see him at the Half Moon, Putney. When he announced the song, I shouted: ‘How about giving the writer some credit?’ He was conciliatory, then he turned testy and said: ‘Why the… should you complain? You get your 75 per cent!” recalls Dobson.

After some legal intervention, Dobson regained some creative control over her song. In 1966, the Grateful Dead was introduced to the Fred Neil version of “Morning Dew,” which they gave an electrifying rock edge for their own released cover as part of their self-titled debut album. The track became a live show staple for the band and was performed over 200 times in the span of their career.

Other covers included Ian Gillan’s pre-Purple Episode Six and the Jeff Beck Group with Rod Stewart. There was an early Allman Brothers cut, as well as covers by Lulu, Lee Hazlewood, Nazareth, Blackfoot, the Screaming Trees and Einstürzende Neubauten.
