1987 Tearjerker With a No. 1 Hit Soundtrack Ranked Among Best Rock Movies of All Time

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 4:47pm

The first time we watched La Bamba, we cried so ugly we thought our face would stick that way. A true story about a teen rock star, the film is now ranked by Ultimate Classic Rock as the best rock movie of 1987, and with its magnetic cast, emotional highs and lows, and No. 1 hit soundtrack, we have to agree.

Centered on 1950s rock ’n’ roll star Ritchie Valens, the biopic follows the meteoric rise and tragic fate of the 17-year-old Mexican-American pioneer of Chicano rock. Lou Diamond Phillips stars as Valens, delivering a breakout performance that — despite not providing his own vocals — radiates charisma and chemistry. Youth, fame, pressure, romance, tragedy — director Luis Valdez brings it all together for a story that feels almost Shakespearean

La Bamba is also a shining example of music and movie magic, with the soundtrack, performed by Tex-Mex band Los Lobos, reimagining covers for the film and shooting both the album and lead single to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and Hot 100. The album was later certified double platinum.

On February 3, 1959, Valens died in a plane crash. The day became known as The Day the Music Died. The film depicts the tragic event, staying loyal to historical detail. Valens, who had a fear of flying due to a real-life plane crash that happened at his school in 1957, was headed on tour with Buddy Holly and two other acts. Waylon Jennings, Holly’s bass player at the time, took the bus instead. It was reported that Jennings was haunted by the event for years.

In 2017, La Bamba was added to the National Film Registry, cementing the Golden Globe-nominated film as a culturally and historically significant work of art. Today, the biopic, which has a remake in the works, still resonates as a definitive rock biopic, reinforcing its teen dream as a lasting legend.

1994 Soul-Stirring Ballad Turned a Forgotten Track Into One of the Most Covered Songs Ever

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 4:27pm

In 1994, alternative icon Jeff Buckley recorded a soul-stirring take of “Hallelujah” that would go on to define the song for generations. Decades later, his haunting version has inspired hundreds of covers and remains one of the most chill-inducing performances in modern music. Here’s the story behind it.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

Originally written and recorded in 1984 by Canadian troubadour Leonard Cohen, the song was initially overlooked, especially in the U.S. where it was never released as a single. It’s unfortunate, because Cohen toiled over the song to the point of obsession.

“'Hallelujah' was obviously an itch to scratch for Cohen, who drafted 80-some verses and tortured himself over the lyrics, famously sitting in his underwear at New York’s Royalton Hotel, notebook in hand, banging his head on the floor,” Louder writes.

“To find that song, that urgent song, takes a lot of versions,” Cohen once said in an interview with SongTalk, per the outlet, “and a lot of work and a lot of sweat.”

The song was given its due a decade later when Buckley got ahold of it. He released the track on his only album, Grace, and elevated the lyrics with electric guitar, “starting out rich, sad and slow, then blossoming into a shimmering instrumental passage that stopped all the clocks,” Louder writes.

That build echoes Buckley’s interpretation of the song, which differs from Cohen’s religious-focused intent. “Whoever listens closely to ‘Hallelujah’ will discover that it is a song about sex, about love, about life on earth,” Buckley once said. “It’s an ode to life and love.”

The song became a touchstone of Buckley’ live performances. He would close every show with it, bringing fans to their knees. But there was one person he hoped would never hear his version. And that was Cohen himself.

Others disagree. Like Buckley’s one-time collaborator Gary Lucas who said, “There’s a spiritual quality in 'Hallelujah' that touches people. There’s a holy quality in that song. But it’s like they said about Sinatra: Jeff could have sung the phone book and made it sound great.”

Buckley’s cover of Cohen’s song saw delayed chart success. According to Billboard, the critically acclaimed cover first reached the charts in 2008, topping Digital Song Sales after American Idolcontestant Jason Castro performed it on the show.

Following Cohen’s death in 2016, Buckley’s version reentered the charts, soaring to No. 10 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart, with Cohen’s original reaching the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time.

“Buckley’s ‘Hallelujah’ has also become a pop-culture staple, featured in numerous film and TV shows, including episodes of The O.C. and The West Wing,” Billboard shares. The track and its artist are explored in depth in Sony Pictures' near-perfect 2025 documentary, It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley.

Since the song’s conception, it has been covered more than 500 times, with Buckley’s version serving as the most iconic. It was inducted into the Library of Congress' National Recording Registry, after all. However, further key iterations include covers by k.d. lang, Rufus Wainwright, and John Cale.

No matter whose version you prefer, we have to first give thanks for Cohen, but then also praise Buckley, who died of an accidental drowning in 1997 at the age of 30, but not before transforming a beautiful but forgotten song into a timeless standard.

1968 Rock Classic Was Recorded 58 Years Ago Today

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 4:25pm

The Jimi Hendrix Experience's celebrated hit “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)," off the band's 1968 record, Electric Ladyland, was recorded on May 3, 1968, as reported by Classic Rock WMGK 102.9.

Famed classic rock engineer Eddie Kramer discussed the recording of "Voodoo Chile," off the same record, and “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" in a behind-the-scenes interview.

According to Kramer, the band's frontman, Jimi Hendrix, came up with "Voodoo Chile" because he "wanted to jam" with a set of musicians, specifically guitarist and keyboard player Steve Winwood and Jefferson Airplane bassist Jack Casady. Kramer said that Hendrix was able to convince Winwood and Casady to record with him after seeing them perform together. The Electric Ladyland recording engineer complimented both Winwood and Casady for elevating the song and their ability to play off of Hendrix's expert guitar skills.

He then shared “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" was recorded "a day or so after" "Voodoo Chile." Kramer stated that the two songs complement each other and act as the acclaimed record's "book ends," despite being "complete opposites." He explained that while "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" "is structured," "Voodoo Chile" has a "loose, open feel" that Hendrix, who died at the age of 27 in 1970, preferred.

Stevie Ray Vaughan Famously Covered 'Voodoo Child (Slight Return)'

The 1968 song was famously covered by blues guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan, who died in 1990 at the age of 35, for his 1984 album, Couldn't Stand The Weather. In a 1985 interview, Vaughan spoke about his appreciation for Hendrix. While he dismissed that he and Hendrix were similar in their guitar playing, he said they both enjoyed performing exactly what they wanted.

"Well, basically there's one similarity. He played everything that he ever heard that excited him. I play everything I ever heard excited me. And obviously, I do respect him very, very much," said Vaughan in the 1985 interview.

Meet the 21 Stars Who Won't Return to the Met Gala

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 4:20pm

The Met Gala is fashion's biggest night, but not all stars look forward to the famous "First Monday in May" fête.

Anna Wintour has curated the elite and iron-clad guest list for more than three decades, but numerous celebrities have never made an appearance: Angelina Jolie, Adele, Britney Spears (even in her heyday), Dolly Parton, Dwayne Johnson, Brad Pitt, Mariah Carey, everyone in the cast ofFriends (yes, even Jennifer Aniston) and even Leonardo DiCaprio are among the A-listers who've never bothered attending, though it's unknown if any of them were ever invited.

It costs tens of thousands of dollars for most to attend (though some stars and up-and-coming designers get freebies). Once you get there, don't expect to sit next to your boo, because no one gets a plus-one unless their guest is also famous—and even if they are, you won't be side-by-side at the party, and at times not even at the same table.

"Never seat spouses next to each other," former Wintour assistant Sylvana Ward Durrett said in the documentary The First Monday in May, which chronicles the planning and behind-the-scenes action of the Met Gala. "The whole point of these things is to meet new people, and to be interested in what others are doing. What's the point if you come here to hang out with your husband?" (As it turns out, a lot of guests hate this, but more on that later.)

"A lot of thought goes into who sits next to who, if they sat together last year, if they've sat next to each other at other events, so much goes into it, it's shocking," Ward Durrett added. "A lot of power-brokering."

According to some Met Gala attendees, those dates who can't get in may not be missing much. Even some of the stars who've made it past the proverbial velvet rope have admitted that the party—which benefits the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute—sort of sucks.

From complaints about the food, the company, the conversation—and perhaps most crucially—the bar, these stars also hated their Met Gala experiences. But with BeyoncéNicole Kidman and Venus Williams co-chairing the 2026 Met Gala, maybe guests will have a better time this year.

Regé-Jean Page felt awkward at the Met Gala, which he attended for the first time in 2022, then again in 2025. He met his You, Me, & Tuscany co-star Halle Bailey at the latter and said she was a (social) life saver for him.

"What no one tells you about the Met Gala is that everyone, almost everyone, is on their own," the Bridgerton alum explained to Esquire. "There's the most glamorous room, the most exclusive echelon of society, all utterly lost and alone and searching for connection. You’re dressed as well as you’re ever going to be dressed, but you’re also in a very vulnerable place, ready to lean on your costar immediately."

2. Lili Reinhart Lili Reinhart at the 2021 Met Gala

Hustlers and Riverdale star Lili Reinhart attended the Met Gala several times, but said that 2021 would likely be her last after she criticized Kim Kardashian bragging about losing weight to fit into Marilyn Monroe's famous gown in 2022.

"To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala," she fumed in an Instagram Story at the time. "When you know very well that millions of young men and women are looking up to you and listening to your every word. The ignorance is otherworldly disgusting."

That October, she said in an interview with W Magazine, "[The Met Gala] was fun, but after going again this year, I don't think I'll be invited back. I said a certain something about a certain person in a certain dress."

Reinhart—who's long been open about her own struggles with anxiety and body image—added, "I have always wanted to stand for something, and while I don't like it if one comment by me turns into 17 articles in PEOPLE magazine, I never overthink what I post. It has to be a true representation of how I feel. And I would say that whether I had 100 followers or 100 million."

3. Ashley Park Ashley Park at the 2022 Met Gala

Ashley Park said that the 2022 and 2023 Met Galas were unpleasant for her, but each for different reasons—and neither of which was necessarily about the Met Ball itself.

She told PEOPLE of the 2022 Met Gala (her first ever), "I had a really bad sinuscold, so I think I was on, like, every over-the-counter medication that you could be on. I was on like, eight Advil like four times."

Similar to what he did as the Joker in Suicide Squad, Jared Leto sort of ruined the 2023 Met Gala for her when he dressed as the lateKarl Lagerfeld'scat Choupette, and walked the red carpet at the same time as she did.

"Jared Leto and his cat outfit, like, was a torment to me," the Emily in Parisstar, who was wearing Michael Kors that evening, lamented. "Like, I have no photos from that, from those stairs without Jared Leto revealing himself as a cat ... I was like, 'Please let me just get one good picture for [Kors].' "

4. SZA SZA at the 2022 Met Gala

Singer SZA confessed to Community Voices that attending the 2022 Met Gala was bad for her mental health because she felt so insecure.

"I hated my outfit," the "Kill Bill" singer, who wore a hot pink and black custom Vivienne Westwood Couture ensemble. "That was another mental health thing. You want to do your job, you want to show up, and all these people are excited for you to be there, but it's like, 'Damn, I don't feel confident,' or 'I don't feel comfortable,' or it's like, 'Oh, if my dress doesn't fit…,' and then there's all this weird comparison, and it's really unhealthy. And it's like, 'Damn, some people, like Lizzo, can have a really good time regardless of what is happening.'"

SZA was so miserable that she left early.

"I just tiptoed a couple blocks and caught a yellow cab back to my hotel because I was just overwhelmed," she admitted. "I had too much anxiety to wait for my cab in front of the crowd, and take pictures, and all those things. I didn't want to do that, so I was looking like a little dirty Cinderella running away with my shoes."

Although the Met Gala itself isn't SZA's cup of tea, she still attended the 2024 Met Gala afterparties with Lizzo, and it looks like they had a fantastic time without all the pressures of the red carpet.

While Lizzo may have been confident at the 2022 Met Gala, per SZA, she vented on Instagram Live that the party was pretty terrible.

"There's a long f**king line, you've gotta wait. I was sweating in a big-a** coat, my feet were hurting," she said.

Lizzo said that once she got inside, the party didn't have chairs, cocktails or hors d'oeuvres, and, most egregiously, that the bar was bad, too.

"They were being really stingy with the liquor that night," she revealed. "[The bartender] was like, 'Red or white wine?' And I was like, 'Tequila! Do you know what I've been through? Do you know how many hours I've been in this corset? How long I've been in these damn shoes? Tequila!'"

All that said, Lizzo is still a Met Gala regular and has affectionately called it a "prom for celebrities."

6. Billie Eilish Billie Eilish at the 2021 Met Gala

Billie Eilish co-chaired the 2021 Met Gala, but said she found the entire experience very reminiscent of high school.

She explained toHoward Stern that December, "The main thing that night made me think or feel was how famous people are just literally nobodies. Just randos, and it's so weird. I was like, 'Wow, all these people are just somebody that's in class with you,' and you think this person's kinda annoying, you really like this person, you get along with this person, and everybody's just, like, embarrassed and insecure about what they're doing and saying."

Fair enough—but she came back for more in 2022 and 2023, so it can't be that bad, right?

7. Lourdes Leon Lourdes Leon at the 2021 Met Gala

Madonna and ex Carlos Leon's daughter Lourdes Leon attended the 2021 Met Gala and felt it was awkward and boring.

"Maybe because it was my first time, but it felt crazy," she complained to Interview Magazine. "You're just shoved into a room with all these famous people and you’re supposed to talk to them and be their friend, even though you don't f**king know them. That's not my vibe."

The nepo baby added, "I'm sure it's fun if you're someone who is friends with a lot of famous people, but I'm not. I didn't know who the f**k to talk to. I felt so awkward that I literally called my boyfriend in the middle of it. But the dinner was fine."

8. Quannah Chasinghorse Quannah Chasinghorse at the 2021 Met Gala

Climate activist and Indigenous model Quannah Chasinghorse hated the 2021 Met Gala for the exact opposite reasons Leon did.

Chasinghorse lamented to Business Insider, "It was just such a weird space to be in. I remember standing there and looking at everyone and feeling so alone. Like, really, really lonely. No one knew me. No one cared to ask. People are there for themselves and it shows."

She explained that she was there somewhat in protest of the year's theme, "In America: A Lexicon of Fashion," because of the United States colonizers' genocides against Indigenous Americans, but that wearing her turquoise and silver jewelry and facial tattoos helped her channel her ancestors and feel strong.

"No way am I celebrating America. If I were to celebrate anything it would be my Indigenous roots, my Indigeneity, who I am. Because of what America did to my people, I am proud to be here today," she said. "I just don't think I belong in spaces like that because I'm not an elitist. My way of walking in this world, in the industry, is so different compared to everyone else because I feel like I'm constantly having to break barriers."

Still, she returned to the Met Gala in 2023 and 2024, hanging out with Oscar-nominatedKillers of the Flower Moon star Lily Gladstone at the latter.

She told Nylon ahead of the 2024 Met Gala, where she wore custom H&M inspired by the Alaska state flower (forget-me-not), "My first year going, I did this article explaining that when you're in those spaces and you don't see anyone who looks like you, you're just kind of alone and you don't feel like you belong. And we've come so far from that. And the fact that I'm going for my fourth time, it's an honor and it's a blessing that I keep getting invited back to these spaces."

"I've actually talked to quite a few people who have told me it's their first year going," she added. "You get the nerves, but it's really nice to be able to be almost like a safe space for someone. It's really cool to have a bit more experience in those spaces ... I know that if I had someone I could go to, just how these people are coming to me, I would've felt a lot more relaxed and a lot more like I belonged."

9. Billy Porter Billy Porter at the 2019 Met Gala

Photo by ANGELA WEISS on Getty Images

Honestly, Billy Porter absolutely slayed the 2019 Met Gala theme of "Notes on Camp": Adorned in head-to-toe gold, complete with wings and headdress, the Pose star had shirtless men carry him onto the red carpet to celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Art's exhibit of Egyptian art.

Then he never went back.

When asked on Bevelations if he would attend the 2026 Met Gala, Porter replied, "No, I'm not going. I have not been invited. I haven't been invited back since 2019."

Porter, who pointed out that Ryan Murphy invited him to the 2019 Met Gala, said he was particularly miffed when he wasn't invited in 2025, which celebrated Black Dandyism and the theme "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style."

"I'm just going to throw that out there. I'm good. It's all good," he said. "But the reality is when people ask me, you need to know I was not invited and I'm good, and I don't go to places where I'm not welcome."

Noting that he doesn't require "validation from the outside" to know his worth as a person, he added, "So I'm going to sit and live in that, because it helps keep me sane too."

That said, Porter has a history with Wintour.

In a 2021 interview with the Sunday Times, Porter griped that having Harry Styles wear a dress on the December 2020 cover of Vogue—the first man to ever be the fashion bible's cover model—rubbed him the wrong way, because other men and nonbinary people have been taking risks with their clothes for a much longer time.

"I feel like the fashion industry has accepted me because they have to. I created the conversation and yet Vogue still put Harry Styles, a straight white man, in a dress on their cover for the first time," he said. "I was the first one doing it and now everybody is doing it. I'm not dragging Harry Styles, but … He doesn't care, he's just doing it because it's the thing to do. This is politics for me. This is my life."

The following month, Porter apologized to Styles for the remark and gave further context of his words in a sit-down on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

"It is about the systems of oppression and erasure of people of color who contribute to the culture," he explained. "I'm sorry, Harry. I didn't mean no harm. I'm a gay man. We like Harry. He's cute."

In a 2023 interview with the Telegraph, Porter said that putting "white and straight" Styles on the December 2020 Vogue was a mistake that he warned Wintour about prior to its release.

"It doesn't feel good to me. You're using my community—or your people are using my community—to elevate you. You haven't had to sacrifice anything," he said of his feelings of Styles on the cover.

He added that the perpetually-bobbed editrix asked him for insight before publishing the issue.

"That b***h said to me at the end, 'How can we do better?' And I was so taken off guard that I didn't say what I should have said," Porter recalled. "Six months later, Harry Styles is the first man on the cover."

"It's not Harry Styles' fault that he happens to be white and cute and straight and fit into the infrastructure that way," he added. "I call out the gatekeepers."

He said that he wished he told Wintour, "'Use your power as Vogue to uplift the voices of the leaders of this de-gendering of fashion movement.'"

Broadway star Ben Platt went to the Met Gala for the first time in 2017 and, like Chasinghorse, felt a bit lonely.

"You're not allowed to bring a plus one, so the first time I went, I did a lap around the cocktails and tried to find somebody I knew and then failed and sort of left," he said on the Jess Cagle Show. "And [I] didn't make it through the event because I was like, 'I don't really have anybody to talk to.'"

Demi Lovato, who has been open about her battles with eating disorders and addiction, was nearly triggered to relapse with alcohol when she attended the 2016 Met Gala.

"I had a terrible experience. This one celebrity was a complete bitch and was miserable to be around," the "Tell Me You Love Me" singer told Billboard. "It was very cliquey. I remember being so uncomfortable that I wanted to drink."

Thankfully, Lovato instead beelined to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in lieu of hitting up any afterparties.

"I changed my clothes, but I still had my diamonds on," she recalled. "Millions of dollars of diamonds on in an AA meeting—and I related more to the homeless people in that meeting who struggled with the same struggles that I deal with than the people at the Met Gala—fake and sucking the fashion industry's d—k."

Zayn Malik also had a bad time at the 2016 Met Gala, which he attended on the arm of his then-girlfriend, supermodel and fashion industry fixture Gigi Hadid.

"I did go, but I didn't go there to be like, 'Yo, take me serious,' " the "Pillow Talk" singer told GQ in 2018. "I was taking the piss! I went there as my favorite Mortal Kombat character, Jax." (It does track, given the metal arm!)

"The Met Gala is not necessarily anything that I ever knew about or was about, but my [former] stylist would say to me, 'This is really good for you to do,'" he added, conveniently avoiding accountability. "And no matter how strong you are mentally, you can always be swayed to do certain things."

Though he admitted that Hadid "stole the night" with her look, he noted, "Now, it's not something I would go to. I'd rather be sitting at my house, doing something productive, than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet. To do the self-indulgent 'Look at me, I'm amazing' thing on the red carpet, it's not me."

13. Lena Dunham Lena Dunham at the 2016 Met Gala

Photo by Rabbani and Solimene Photography on Getty Images

Lena Dunham had a bad time at the 2016 Met Gala because of her own attitude: She projected quite racist tropes onto NFL star Odell Beckham, Jr. for no reason.

"I was sitting next to Odell Beckham Jr., and it was so amazing because it was like he looked at me and he determined I was not the shape of a woman by his standards. He was like: 'That's a marshmallow. That's a child. That's a dog.' It wasn't mean. He just seemed confused," she wrote in her erstwhile Lenny Letter (via the New York Times). "[His] vibe was very much like, 'Do I want to f**k it? Is it wearing a … yep, it's wearing a tuxedo. I'm going to go back to my cell phone.' It was like we were forced to be together, and he literally was scrolling Instagram rather than have to look at a woman in a bow tie. I was like, 'This should be called the Metropolitan Museum of Getting Rejected by Athletes.'"

Beckham Jr. issued a classier response than the remark deserved, and Dunham apologized several times for her comments, which she said were attempts at humor.

"I went ahead and projected these insecurities and made totally narcissistic assumptions about what he was thinking, then presented those assumptions as facts," she wrote on Instagram (via PEOPLE). "I feel terrible about it. Because after listening to lots of valid criticism, I see how unfair it is to ascribe misogynistic thoughts to someone I don't know AT ALL. Like, we have never met, I have no idea the kind of day he's having or what his truth is."

She returned to attend Met Galas in 2017, 2018 and 2019, and is part of the hosting committee for 2026.

OK, there was seriously something in the water at the 2016 Met Gala, because a lot of people hated it that year. Amy Schumer attended and detested the entire experience, calling it a "punishment."

"It's people doing an impression of having a conversation," the Kinda Pregnant star complained in a 2016 Howard Stern interview (via Yahoo!). "I don't like the farce. We're dressed up like a bunch of f**king a**holes. I don't like it. I have no interest in fashion. I don't care."

Former Vanity Fair editor-in-chief Graydon Carter went to his last Met Gala in 2014, saying that Wintour's soiree "wasn't [his] thing" anymore.

"I mean, Halloween-type costumes. They might as well come dressed as SpongeBob," he told the New York Times, adding that New York City's Greenwich Village Halloween parade "was classier, a better class of people." "

Carter, who famously hosted the Vanity Fair Oscar parties until his retirement in 2017, explained, "In the old days you'd go and you'd sit beside an architect or a writer, and now it's all influencers and Kardashians. We never let a Kardashian into our parties."

Oh come on, who doesn't remember the elevator incident?

Solange Knowles roughed up JAY Z in an elevator en route to a Met Gala afterparty in 2014, all while Beyoncé looked on, seemingly in silence—and it was all caught on video and released to TMZ. While the Brooklyn native hasn't spoken about what happened there or about his feelings regarding the Met Gala as a whole, actions may speak louder than words.

While we still don't know what it was about or exactly what went down, we do know that Hov only returned to the Met Gala one time since: In 2015, JAY-Z, Queen Bey and Solange all attended in what was very likely a deliberate show of solidarity to quell rumors of marital strife between the Carters.

Meanwhile, the "Single Ladies" singer attended solo in 2016 and the "Cranes in the Sky" crooner came back in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019.

Considering Beyoncé is a co-chair for 2026, the "Public Service Announcement" emcee may make his comeback after more than a decade—because EVERYTHING IS LOVE now.

Gwyneth Paltrow complained about the Met Gala in 2013 shortly after the soiree.

"It sucked. It seems like it's the best thing in the world, you always think, 'Oh my God, it's gonna be so glamorous and amazing, and you're going to see all these people!'" the Oscar winner said in a radio interview (via Us Weekly). "And then you get there, and it's so hot and it's so crowded and everyone's pushing you."

She added of that year's theme, "I think we're all a bit old to dress up punk. I just went as kind of normal."

Paltrow also griped to USA Today, "It was so un-fun. It was boiling. It was too crowded. I did not enjoy it at all ... I'm never going again."

Still, the Goop founder has since returned to subsequent Met Galas in 2017 and 2019. In a newsletter in 2026, she admitted having a "love/hate relationship" with the Met Gala overall, explaining that she also hates the "costume" themes.

"I'm me—so I'm never going to the Met Ball in like, a hot dog costume or whatever, you know?" she wrote, potentially referring to Katy Perry'shamburger outfit from 2019. "I always have to be myself, first and foremost. Like, I'm not going in a costume; I'm going in a dress."

That's fair, but ... why not just go somewhere else?

Tina Fey went to the Met Gala in 2010 with her husband Jeff Richmond, and neither of them had fun.

"I have gone to it once and it is such a jerk parade. Clearly, I'll never go again, but you go, and it's this beautiful space, and it's just every jerk from every walk of life is there wearing some stupid thing," she toldDavid Letterman. "I went and I dragged my husband along with me too, which I'm still in trouble for."

Fey is one of the only stars who've kvetched about the Met Gala who hasn't actually returned. We respect her lack of hypocrisy here.

Late fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa boycotted the Met Gala in 2009 after none of his works were featured in that year's Costume Institute "Model as Muse" exhibit.

He requested supermodels Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista and Stephanie Seymour not to wear the gowns he made for them for the event, and all three opted to skip the Gala entirely in solidarity with Alaïa that year.

Griping that Wintour had "too much power" over the Costume Institute (which her team denied), he noted to the New York Times, "It would have been silly to have seven girls wearing my dresses at the party and not have anything of mine in the exhibit."

Alaïa, who never walked the Met Gala red carpet himself despite dressing numerous models and stars for it, died in 2017.

Like Fey, Garner has stuck to her guns.

While Tim Gunn hasn't publicly complained about the Met Gala itself, it's because Wintour banned the Project Runway alum from the annual event entirely.

"I was asked what is the most unforgettable thing I've ever seen in fashion, and I said, 'It's easy. It was watching Anna Wintour being carried down five flights of stairs by two bodyguards—two big, hulking men—from a fashion show," Gunn recalled in a 2016 interview with Melissa Rivers. "Well, all Hell broke loose. It was insane. So we've had an open war ever since."

Terri Irwin Reveals Key Difference Between Steve Irwin and Son Robert

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 4:18pm

Terri Irwin just revealed the one major difference between her son Robert Irwin and his late father Steve Irwin.

While speaking to People at the annual Steve Irwin Gala on Saturday, May 2, Terri and Robert reflected on how “incredibly special” it has been to carry on The Crocodile Hunter star's legacy together.

“Everything started so small,” Terri said of her husband transforming the Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park into the Australia Zoo in 1998. “It was two acres, it was a few animals, and it was no filming. And so to see where we've gone, and to have Steve embrace that, was so impressive.”

Every year, Terri, Robert, and his sisterBindi Irwin host the gala to fund conservation work in Steve's memory.

“It was a lot of work, it was a lot of grief,” Terri said of her and Robert's journey to where they are now. “There were times of great joy. And to be able to have shared that with him was incredibly special—and carry it on.”

“But I will say the one thing that Robert's got that Steve didn't—Steve never took his shirt off for wildlife," she added.

Along with appearing shirtless for performances on Dancing With The Stars, Robert went viral last year for an underwear campaign he did with Australian brand Bonds.

In response to his mother's comment, Robert said he's just been doing “whatever gets the job done.”

He also emphasized that his father, who died in 2006 after being attacked by a stingray, will always serve as his “greatest inspiration” in everything he does. Robert was only 2 years old at the time of Steve's death.

“He would really exemplify what it is to give everything 100 percent,” Robert said. “And that's what I take into everything I do. You know, if you have a passion, you really owe it to yourself to give it everything.”

“I think a night like tonight is the culmination of his passion, his love for conservation, but also the fact that family and fun that was the most important thing, too,” he continued. “I think he'll always be my greatest role model in life, alongside my mom.”

Tickets for one of rock’s most in-demand festival experiences didn’t last long.

ShipRocked 2027, the hard rock cruise that blends live music with a full-on vacation experience, has officially sold out just days after the lineup dropped on Wednesday, April 29, with a waitlist now in place for hopeful attendees.

The annual event, now in its 17th year, will set sail January 24 through 30 aboard the Carnival Horizon, departing from Miami and making stops in Roatan, Honduras and Cozumel, Mexico. The cruise typically hosts more than 4,000 guests and nearly 30 bands.

And perhaps this year’s lineup is to blame for the prompt sellout, with names like Papa Roach, Ice Nine Kills,Highly Suspect, and Badflower leading the bill, alongside dozens of other bands still to be announced.

The quick sellout follows a massive year for the floating festival. The 2026 sailing marked the cruise’s largest yet, bringing more than 4,100 fans on board with performances from bands like Halestorm and Motionless In White. Beyond the music, the event raised a record $200,000 during its annual onboard charity auction, pushing total donations past $1.2 million for cancer research.

Set over Thanksgiving, the plot follows the kidnapping of two little girls, plucked from their quiet street in their seemingly safe suburban town, and the investigation launched to bring them home. The film stars Hugh Jackmanand Jake Gyllenhaal, with the latter playing Detective Loki, the lead investigator on the case, and the former playing Keller Dover, a grieving father who will do whatever it takes to find the girls.

Prisoners is a masterclass of tension and emotionally gripping storytelling that exemplifies everything that makes psychological thrillers such an enthralling and exceptional experience,” Collider writes. “The mystery at the center is only a portion of the film's brilliance, as the paralleling desperation and pain of its characters amidst the confusion and anger is what transforms it into a work of art.”

Directed by French-Canadian auteur Denis Villeneuve, the Oscar-nominated film is the filmmaker’s first English-language film, to be followed by Sicario, Arrival, and the Dune franchise. The script comes from the relative newcomer Aaron Guzikowski, who was inspired by Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell-Tale Heart for his story about grief, obsession, and moral collapse.

Behind the scenes, production took as many twists and turns as the film’s own thrilling narrative. Jackman initially signed on, dropped out, then later returned to the project. Early casting talks also included Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg, who ultimately left to star in The Fighter. Ryan Gosling, who stars in Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049, even auditioned for Loki.

View this post on Instagram

In the end, Gyllenhaal won the role and made it his own, adding the tattoos, facial tics, and Freemason ring that define Detective Loki as the obsessive cop who refuses to let a case go cold. Under the precision of Villeneuve, the film has become a celebrated modern psychological marvel that still haunts us to this day. Just wait for that final scene. Good lawd if ever a sequel were warranted.

The Italian Way To Make Pasta Salad 10x Better

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 3:44pm

Italian pasta salad has a way of showing up wherever good food and good company meet. Rooted in the broader Italian tradition of simple, seasonal cooking, it reflects a philosophy that's less about strict recipes and more about balance—fresh vegetables, quality olive oil and just enough acidity to bring everything to life.

While pasta salad, as many Americans know it, is more of a modern, picnic-friendly creation, its DNA can be traced back to classic Italian dishes that combine pasta with vegetables, herbs and light dressings.

Over time, Italian pasta salad has become a global favorite, especially during warm-weather months. Its popularity comes down to its versatility and crowd-pleasing nature—you can make it ahead, customize it endlessly and serve it just about anywhere. From backyard barbecues to weeknight dinners, it delivers bold flavor without a lot of fuss, which is exactly why it continues to earn a spot in so many kitchens.

What Is Italian Pasta Salad?

Julie Andrews

Italian pasta salad is what happens when simple ingredients meet a little Mediterranean magic. Unlike heavier, mayo-based versions you might find at a picnic, the Italian approach is all about brightness, balance and letting each ingredient shine. Think al dente pasta tossed with crisp vegetables, savory add-ins and a punchy vinaigrette dressing that ties everything together without weighing it down.

It's the kind of dish that feels equally at home at a potluck or alongside a glass of wine on a sunny patio. The real charm? It tastes even better after it sits for a bit, giving all those flavors time to mingle.

What Type of Dressing Is Used in Italian Pasta Salad?

Julie Andrews

The dressing is where the "Italian way" really stands out. Instead of creamy sauces, this salad leans on a vinaigrette—typically made with olive oil, vinegar (red wine vinegar is a favorite), garlic and herbs.

The goal is light, but flavorful. A good vinaigrette coats the pasta without drowning it, adding both tang and richness. Many home cooks add a pinch of dried oregano, a little Dijon mustard for depth or even a splash of lemon juice to brighten things up. If you like a little heat, don't be afraid to add in a pinch or two of crushed red pepper flakes.

A favorite trick for a delicious Italian dressing is to add a few tablespoons of freshly grated Parmesan for umami flavor and texture. It helps the dressing cling to the salad ingredients, elevating the dish.

And don't forget that any dressing that's heavy on an acidic ingredient, like vinegar or lemon juice, requires a pinch of sugar to balance things out. It's a simple addition that makes a huge difference in the overall flavor profile.

Lastly, a hefty pinch of kosher salt and freshly cracked black pepper can elevate the natural flavors of the dressing ingredients.

What Are the Main Ingredients in Italian Pasta Salad?

Julie Andrews

At its core, Italian pasta salad is all about contrast—textures and flavors working together in every bite. It typically starts with short pasta like rotini, penne or farfalle, which cling to the dressing and mimic the size of the other ingredients, making the entire thing easy to eat.

From there, fresh vegetables such as cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers add crunch and brightness, while salty, savory elements like olives and cured meats bring depth.

Cheese—often in the form of mozzarella pearls or cubes—adds a creamy, mild richness, and fresh herbs like basil or parsley finish everything with a burst of flavor.

The beauty of Italian pasta salad is its flexibility; it's less about strict rules and more about creating a bowl that feels colorful, balanced and just a little abundant.

How To Make Italian Pasta Salad

Julie Andrews

Start by cooking your pasta in well-salted water until just al dente. This step matters more than you think—overcooked pasta can turn mushy once dressed.

While the pasta cooks, chop your vegetables into uniform sizes and whisk together your vinaigrette. Be sure to taste the dressing and make any changes, if needed, such as adding a pinch more salt, balancing a too-tangy dressing with a pinch of sugar or adding a squeeze of lemon juice if it's begging for brightness. Once the pasta is done, drain it and let it cool slightly. Toss it with a bit of dressing while it's still warm so it absorbs more flavor.

Then combine everything in a large bowl—pasta, veggies, cheese and any extras you love. Add more dressing, toss well and let it chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving. Finish with fresh herbs, like basil and parsley, right before serving for a burst of color and aroma, if you have them on hand.

Common Variations of Italian Pasta Salad

Julie Andrews

One of the reasons this dish is so popular is its easy adaptability. You can switch things up based on what you have or what you're craving.

Some versions lean heavily on vegetables for a lighter feel, while others add proteins like grilled chicken or chickpeas to make it more filling. You might also see regional spins with sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, roasted red peppers or different cheeses.

Some cooks may switch up the type of vinegar in the dressing, such as swapping red wine vinegar for balsamic. Others may use whatever pasta shape they have in the cupboard, while some may source a specific variety they can't live without.

In short, there's no single "correct" version—just your favorite version or the version that uses what's already in your pantry and refrigerator.

Tips for Making Italian Pasta Salad

Julie Andrews

A few simple tricks can take your pasta salad from good to unforgettable.

First, generously salt your pasta water—it's your only chance to season the pasta itself. Next, don't skimp on the dressing; add it in stages so everything stays balanced and not over- or underdressed. Be sure to chop vegetables into uniform sizes so the salad is easy to pick up multiple items in a forkful, giving you a positive eating experience.

Make your dressing next, and taste and adjust as needed. Let the dressing sit so it has time to marry the flavors, but be sure to whisk it one last time before adding it to your pasta.

Texture and multiple flavor elements are key, so aim for a mix of crunchy, soft and chewy, and be sure to capitalize on salty, tangy, umami and a bit of sweetness to bring it all together.

And after it chills for a bit, don't forget to taste and adjust before serving—a little extra vinegar, salt, freshly cracked black pepper, freshly grated Parmesan or olive oil can make all the difference.

Common Mistakes To Avoid

Even an easy dish like this has a few pitfalls. Overcooking the pasta is a big one—it should have a slight bite, so set the timer according to the package instructions and taste it as it cooks to check for doneness. Another common mistake is under-seasoning, which can leave the salad tasting flat.

Using too much dressing at once can make things soggy, while skipping the resting time means you miss out on deeper flavor. And finally, adding delicate herbs too early can cause them to wilt and lose their freshness.

Get those details right, and you'll end up with a pasta salad that's vibrant, balanced and true to Italian style—and the outcome will be effortlessly delicious.

Iconic Santana Vocalist Dead at 79

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 3:15pm

Alex Ligertwood, the vocalist known for his work with Santana, has died at the age of 79.

News of his passing was shared by his wife, Shaun Brogan, on the Brogan Agency’s Facebook page Sunday, May 3. She revealed that the singer died peacefully in his sleep at his home in Santa Monica—just weeks after taking the stage for what would be his final performance.

“It’s with great sadness and heartache to announce the passing of my sweet dear Alex Ligertwood, my husband of 25 years, we knew each other for 36 years,” Brogan started her post. “He touched so many with his extraordinary voice. He was all heart and soul. His favorite thing in life was to make music, sing and to share his gift with us.”

Ligertwood’s connection to Santana stretched across more than a decade, with the vocalist stepping in and out of the lineup between 1979 and 1994 alongside frontman Carlos Santana. During that time, he helped shape the band’s sound on projects like Marathon, Zebop!, and Shango, while also contributing to live shows.

And beyond Santana, Ligertwood remained deeply respected in the music world. Guitarist Brandon Paul, who shared the stage with him in recent years, called him “a world-class professional” in a statement to TMZ. “His voice was a force of nature—soulful, from the heart, and legendary every single night. Beyond the music, he was an amazing human being and a dear friend.”

At this time, it’s unclear Ligertwood’s cause of death. His team has not responded to Parade’s request for comment at this time.

1980 One-Hit Wonder Made Chart History Before a Major Career Shift

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 3:06pm

46 years ago today, on May 3, 1980, Debby Boone scored a No. 1 hit with her country classic, “Are You on the Road to Lovin’ Me Again.” By the time she had marked that milestone, the singer had already established herself in the pop genre, having scored big with her long-running signature hit and timeless love anthem, “You Light Up My Life.”

Boone, the squeaky-clean daughter of Pat Boone, had a knack for finding success in different genres, which showcased both her talent and impressive versatility, according to American Songwriter

A Crossover Success

With “Are You on the Road to Lovin’ Me Again,” she proved yet again that she could experience major crossover success following previous stints in pop throughout the ‘70s and in gospel music before that, where she performed alongside her sisters as part of The Boone Girls.

Before landing her No. 1 country smash, Boone’s foray into the country genre began in 1978 with the song “In Memory of Your Love.” She followed that song with a string of covers and a self-titled album. But it wasn’t until her next album, Love Has No Reason, that things began to take shape.

“Are You on the Road to Lovin’ Me Again” belonged on Love Has No Reason. Not only did the song bring Boone new success, but it also made chart history for women in country music

A Triumph for Female Country Artists

Two weeks before reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, the tune was climbing from No. 3, positioned among four other tracks by women that made up a historic all-female Top 5. Those spots included Crystal Gayle’s “It’s Like We Never Said Goodbye,” Dottie West’s “A Lesson in Leavin’,” Emmylou Harris’ “Beneath Still Waters,” and Tammy Wynette’s “Two Story House” with George Jones

The Lyrics

Written by Debbie Hupp and Bob Morrison and produced by Larry Butler, “Are You on the Road to Lovin’ Me Again” finds the singer asking her love interest, with a feeling of uncertainty, if their relationship will progress in a forward motion. Featuring a laid-back melody with bright acoustics and fitting shakers, the tune focuses on a romance that appears to have been pushed aside but has been left open, with the possibility for a second chance. Boone asks her former flame if he has returned to her to just “pass time” or if he’s looking for a way back to her heart.

Making a Change

Though Boone managed to secure a top song, becoming a standout in the country format, she didn’t stick with the genre for very long. A year after making waves, and following up her No. 1 hit with two more singles — “Free to Be Lonely Again” and “Take It Like a Woman” —  and another country album, 1981’s Savin’ It Up, Boone transitioned her focus toward contemporary Christian music and theater, later earning multiple Grammy Awards and four Top 10 Contemporary Christian albums, among other successes.

1974 Soft Rock Classic Became a No. 1 Hit Seven Years Later by '80s Music Legend

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 2:59pm

Some songs take time, not to mention the right artist, to become unforgettable hits.

"Bette Davis Eyes" was first co-written and recorded in 1974 by Jackie DeShannon, offering a jazz-influenced soft rock take that reflected the sound of the era.

"I started off when I was around 12 or 13, writing songs because it was very difficult to get a recording contract when I was so young, and there were only just a few labels," DeShannon told NPR in 2010. Though "Bette Davis Eyes" was undeniably a well-written song and did manage to gain some attention, it never reached the heights that would come later.

That changed seven years later.

In 1981, singer-songwriter Kim Carnes reimagined the song with a completely different approach, transforming it into a sleek, synth-driven track that fit perfectly within the evolving pop landscape of the early '80s. With its distinctive arrangement and Carnes' raspy, unmistakable vocals, the song took on a new life.

The result was a massive breakthrough. Carnes' version of "Bette Davis Eyes" climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, where it remained for an impressive nine weeks, making it one of the biggest hits of the year.

The song's success also earned critical acclaim, winning multiple Grammy Awards and becoming a defining track of the decade.

Its lyrics, inspired by the iconic Hollywood actress Bette Davis, added to its intrigue, blending old-Hollywood glamour with a modern edge that resonated with listeners. Davis herself was even a fan of the song.

"I was flabbergasted, and I thought it was fun, and I thought the words were pretty terrific," the legendary actress said in a 1987 interview. "As a matter of fact, I wrote the girl who wrote the words and asked her how she knew me this well. But the big thrill of that was the reaction of my grandson, Ashley. That his grandmother was in the rock 'n' roll area, with a record … he looked at me completely differently from then on."

What makes "Bette Davis Eyes" especially remarkable is its journey from a modestly received original to a chart-topping global hit years later. It's a rare example of a song being completely reinvented and surpassing its initial release in both popularity and cultural impact.

Decades later, the track remains a staple of '80s music and a testament to the power of reinvention.

Sometimes, all a great song needs is a second chance to truly shine.

Dana Delany Says She ‘Freaked Out’ When Robert Redford Got on His Knees in Front of Her

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 2:56pm

Dana Delany confesses she “freaked out” the first time she met RobertRedford.

The 70-year-old actress spoke to People about the interaction she still feels embarrassed about at the TCM Classic Film Festival.

Delany worked with Redford’s son, JamieRedford, while acting in the 2003 film Spin. The drama also featured Stanley Tucci, RyanMerriman, and Paula Garcés.

The director's father was “so supportive,” according to Delany.

"We had a little pre-dinner before the movie screened. I was sitting there with a plate on my lap, like a buffet thing. All of a sudden, I looked to my right, and there was Robert Redford on his knees in front of me, telling me how good I was in the movie, and he wanted me to know before all the hubbub started,” said the China Beach star.

Delany was shocked to receive a compliment from the Hollywood icon.

“I was so freaked out that Robert Redford was on his knees telling me this because it's all I ever wanted in life," she added. "Then I said, ‘Oh, thank you,' and I turned away because I couldn't handle it. I was just so freaked, and I regret that completely."

"The poor guy got off of his knees and just walked away,” Delany said.

The moment was even more impactful because she had been a fan of the All the President's Men actor since her youth.

“Robert Redford is a big part of my childhood. It's funny, I would say the most romantic movie was The Way We Were," Delany shared. "I'd say his sexiest was when he was The Sundance Kid."

While starstruck in the moment, the actress shared that Redford was accustomed to similar reactions. “He knew the effect that he had on people," she said.

Trader Joe's 'Tasty' New Korean Snack Has Fans 'Obsessed'

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 2:49pm

Reviews are pouring in for Trader Joe’s newest snack drop.

The beloved grocery chain (which is well known for their creative snacks and dessert options) just released their version of a popular Korean street food—Potato Cheese Sticks.

Inspired by Korean-style corn dogs, these frozen snacks skip the traditional hot dog center and lean fully into the cheese. According to their website, each stick is coated in a lightly sweet batter that’s rolled in small cubes of potato before being cooked to a crisp.

Trader Joe’s notes the product is made by a Korean supplier, staying true to the street food inspiration that has gained popularity worldwide. And while they’re designed to be eaten on their own, they’re also ideal for dipping—whether that’s classic ketchup or something a little more elevated like one of their many specialty sauces.

The sticks can be ready in just a few minutes in the air fryer (or slightly longer in a conventional oven), and cost just $4.99 for a box of four.

So far, shoppers seem to be mostly on board.

“Really tasty, though can use some sort of seasoning,” one Reddit user noted. “Just had them. Cooked perfectly in the air fryer. So good, will buy again,” wrote another.

“Yummm these are good especially with the spicy dynamite sauce! great late night snack,” one replied.

A third stated that the sticks are fine as is: “Kind of obsessed with them. I don’t put any sauce on them - I think they are perfect.”

That said, not everyone is completely sold. Some customers have pointed out issues with texture or sweetness levels.

“They are decent. The breading reminds me of an onion ring batter and there isn't enough cheese to balance out the breading. I wouldn't get them again,” one explained.

“They are good, a little sweet. My problem with it is how little you get for the price,” claimed another.

Like many Trader Joe’s launches, the Potato Cheese Sticks won’t be around long as they are a limited item, so if you see them next time you’re shopping, definitely grab a box—or three.

CBS Reveals Major Change for ‘Fire Country’ Season 5

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 2:23pm

Fire Country Season 4 is winding down, and a lengthy summer break for the hit CBS drama is on the horizon.

When Fire Country Season 5 returns in the fall, a couple of things will be different for the show. One of them is behind the scenes, but the other fans will notice for sure.

CBS has dropped the bombshell that Fire Country will have only 13 episodes in Season 5. The episode count is down from the 20 episodes in Season 4.

Fire Country has had at least a 20-episode order for all seasons except Season 2, but that was due to the writer's strike and SAG strikes. Getting a 13-episode order is a shocker because CBS has been killing it on Friday nights with Sheriff Country, Fire Country, and Boston Blue since last fall.

In fact, at the network’s unveiling of the fall schedule, Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach confirmed that Friday nights will stay intact with the three shows. However, with the news that Fire Country will be seven episodes shorter than Sheriff Country and Boston Blue, another series will join them on Friday nights at some point.

According to Deadline,Fire Country isn’t the only CBS show to face cuts so that the network can fit more dramas into the 2026/27 season. NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney were each given a 10-episode order, while Matlock got a 13-episode order and won’t air until mid-season.

News of the smaller episode count comes after it was revealed that Fire Country showrunner Tia Napolitano, who has been with the CBS drama from the beginning, is stepping down. Napolitano will be focusing on her own development deal with the network.

Season 4 of Fire Country wraps up on May 22. Fans are in for a treat ahead of the finale as Shawn Hatosy returns as Battalion Chief Richards in the May 15 episode and will be there to help end the season with a bang.

Fire Country airs Fridays at 9/8c on CBS.

Popular Baby Formula Issues Nationwide Recall Due to Possible Health Risk

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 2:20pm

Parents, check your cabinets, as a popular baby formula has recently been recalled due to a possible health risk. The a2 Milk Company has issued a voluntary recall of three batches of its imported a2 Platinum Premium USA label infant formula for children ages 0 to 12 months.

The product was recalled due to the presence of cereulide, a heat-stable toxin produced by some strains of Bacillus cereus, a bacterium that can cause food poisoning. Preparing the formula with hot water does not eliminate it, a2 Milk Company said in a statement.

According to the Mayo Clinic, food poisoning from cereulide can cause vomiting or diarrhea, as well as nausea and abdominal pain or cramping. Though complications from it are rare, severe vomiting or diarrhea can cause dehydration, which the medical center notes can be life-threatening. There is no treatment for it, though rest and lots of fluids are suggested. In extreme cases, medical providers may also suggest getting IV fluids.

Three batches of the a2 milk-based powder with iron, all in 31.7oz tins, were recalled. Their batch numbers and expiration dates, which can be found on the bottom of the tin, are:

2210269454, expiration date: 7/15/2026
2210324609, expiration date: 1/21/2027
2210321712, expiration date: 1/15/2027

In total, 63,078 units were made of the affected product, with a2 estimating that 16,428 units were sold to consumers. The tins were sold nationwide in the United States on the a2 Milk Company website, on Amazon, and at Meijer stores.

So far, there have been no reports of illness associated with the affected batches, but consumers are urged to not use the product. Furthermore, consumers who purchased the affected product are asked to discontinue use of it immediately, dispose of it, or return it to their point of purchase for a refund.

1970 Story Song With a Twist Ending Became an Artist’s Only No. 1 Hit

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 2:17pm

On May 3, 1970, a vivid story song about a barroom hustler gave Dave Dudley a milestone that would stand alone in his career.

“The Pool Shark” climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart, where it held the top spot for a week and spent 14 weeks overall on the chart. It would become his only chart-topper, even as he racked up dozens of other hits.

Released in February 1970 as the lead single from the album of the same name, the song was written by Tom T. Hall, one of country music’s great storytellers. And “The Pool Shark” plays out exactly like one of his signature narratives—less a song than a short film set to music.

It opens in a smoky roadside bar, where a traveling gambler sizes up what looks like an easy mark. The man is rough around the edges, “ugly” with “mean” eyes, but there’s something deceptive in the way he handles a cue stick. What starts as a casual game quickly turns into a high-stakes battle, with drinks flowing and a crowd gathering as the bets climb higher and higher.

For a while, it looks like the narrator is in control. He plays the part, even “like a man with a broken wrist,” trying to lure his opponent deeper into the game. But the tide turns quietly. The stranger upgrades his cue, raises the stakes, and reveals himself for what he is—a professional hustler who has been setting the trap all along.

Related: 1963 Heartbreaker Became a No. 1 Hit After Fatal Plane Crash 63 Years Ago Today

By the end, it’s over. The narrator loses everything: $187, a ring and whatever pride he walked in with. The hustler leaves in style, driving off in a Cadillac with “a blonde built like the rest of that car,” while the loser is left with nothing but a drink and a hard lesson.

But in a final twist that gives the story its sting, the narrator shrugs it off and turns his attention to the waitress, delivering the song’s closing thought with a wink: unlucky in gambling, maybe—but still hopeful when it comes to love.

That blend of vivid storytelling and sharp character work is exactly what made “The Pool Shark” stand out. While Dudley was best known for his truck-driving anthems like “Six Days on the Road,” this song showed a different side, leaning fully into narrative in a way that stuck with listeners.

More than five decades later, it remains his only No. 1 hit.

Kacey Musgraves Goes Viral Promoting New Album in Hilarious Way and the Internet Is Losing It

Sun, 05/03/2026 - 1:36pm

Kacey Musgraves knows a thing or two about grabbing attention.

The Grammy Award-winning country star gave fans a look at the creative way she decided to promote her new album Middle of Nowhere on Sunday, May 3, sharing her antics via TikTok.

Dressed in an armadillo costume, Musgraves made her way to various stores—first Walmart, followed by Barnes and Noble then Target—in hopes to get her hands on her new drop.

At Walmart, the 37-year-old perused the store, getting many odd looks from customers along the way. At one point, she even drops into an epic somersault. “Do you guys have the new Kacey Musgraves album?” she asked one associate, who hilariously replied, “I don’t recognize that name.” She was successful, however, finding an end-cap filled with the album, which she grabbed multiple copies of.

Moving onto Barnes & Noble, the “Happy & Sad” songstress made her way to the children’s section, where she ran and crawled through the area, greeting excited children who were interested in her unusual outfit. Before spotting her album, Musgraves grabbed a book about armadillos, giving it a quick read.

Finally at Target, Musgraves found the “new releases” shelf right away, filled with shirts and the album, which she excitedly clawed at. At the very end, she played dead in the parking lot, pretending to be roadkill after a busy day of shopping.

“Will you be in my drag show someday as the armadillo?” drag queen Pattie Gonia wrote in the comments of the video on Instagram.

“Armadillo by morning,” singer Jason Isbell replied.

Other responses from fans included, “I love whatever is wrong with you,” and “it’s the perfect mix of iconic & insane for me.”

Longtime Musgraves fans know this isn’t the first time she’s stepped out in the armadillo costume. The artist debuted the fun costume back on Halloween in 2024, posting a video on Instagram and TikTok at the time writing, “imagine ur talkin shii abt me and im just at home being an armadillo.”

Musgraves is promoting Middle of Nowhere on May 3, 4, and 5 at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas, which will appropriately feature live armadillo races and face painting. She shared the flyer on her Instagram, prompting fans to come early around 4 pm.

Middle of Nowhere dropped on Friday, May 1, which includes hits like the lead single “Dry Spell” and “I Believe in Ghosts.” Her seventh album comes two years after Deeper Well, which won Best Country Song for "The Architect" at the 2025 Grammy Awards. The album featured collaborations with icons like Willie Nelsonand Miranda Lambert.

Not only will Morris guest star, but the “Chasing After You” hitmaker will debut an original song, “Parachute," which was specifically written for the Sheriff Country episode.

TVLinewas first to break the news, revealing that Morris comes onto the series as Skye’s (Amanda Arcuri) sponsor, Hazel. The outlet gave Sheriff Country fans a look at Hazel with Skye and also with Mickey (Morena Baccarin).

Other details for the episode reveal that Mickey is dealing with a high-profile case involving local land deals, illegal growers, and the cartel.

Morris’ episode will air on Friday, May 15, one week before the highly anticipated finale. As Parade reported, Baccarin warned fans that a “complete betrayal” goes down in the finale episode that shakes Mickey and her department to their core.

Having country sensation Morris on Sheriff Country follows in the footsteps of Fire Country, which has featured talented country singers on the series. Fire Country and Sheriff Country creator Max Thieriot, who also stars as Bode on Fire Country, opened up about tapping into the country music and acting scene.

Thieriot went on to give Morris mad props and gush over her agreeing to be part of Sheriff Country.

"Maren is such a powerful storyteller and having her join us felt like a natural extension of that legacy. She brings a real emotional truth and presence that fits seamlessly into this world, and we can't wait for audiences to see what she does,” the actor stated.

In less than two weeks, Maren Morris joins Sheriff Country in a role fans won’t want to miss, especially since her new song drops in the episode.
