Allen Reynolds, the producer who played a major role in shaping Garth Brooks‘ early career, is celebrating his 88th birthday.

Reynolds was born Aug. 18, 1938, in North Little Rock, Arkansas, and went on to become one of Nashville’s most respected producers and songwriters.

His career included work with some of country music’s biggest stars, but he is perhaps best known for his longtime collaboration with Brooks, 64.

Reynolds produced virtually every album Brooks released during the early and defining years of his career, helping shape the sound that turned the singer into a household name.

Brooks’ rise in the late 1980s and 1990s helped transform the country music landscape, with albums including No Fences, Ropin’ the Wind and The Chase becoming massive commercial successes.

Reynolds’ work extended well beyond Brooks, too.

He produced Crystal Gayle’s 1977 hit “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue,” which became one of the singer’s signature songs and earned her a Grammy Award for Best Female Country Vocal Performance.

As a songwriter, Reynolds also contributed to Nashville’s country music tradition, writing songs recorded by artists including Waylon Jennings, Don Williams and Tanya Tucker.

His influence as a producer was particularly significant during country music’s commercial explosion in the 1990s. His work with Brooks helped establish the polished, arena-ready sound that allowed country music to reach an enormous mainstream audience.

At 88, Reynolds remains an important part of the story behind Brooks’ remarkable rise and one of the Nashville figures whose influence can be heard across generations of country music.

A major literary figure in the 20th-century, who has an adjective named after him, is Franz Kafka. He was a German-language Jewish Czech writer and novelist who is famous for his visionary, surreal and dreamlike narratives, and his influence is still felt throughout “contemporary discussions of identity and societal structures,” per EBSCO. His most popular works include The Trial (Der Prozess in its original German) in 1925 and The Metamorphosis (Die Verwandlung) in 1915. 

Kafka was not famous while he was alive and didn’t live long enough to see his works resonate with others—many were published posthumously—but his stories focused on anxieties and feelings of alienation that many people in Europe and North America felt in the early 1900s, per Britannica. And our quote of the day features Kafka’s thoughts on how youthful wonder is imperative in being happy.

Born in the city of Prague in 1883, Kafka was the eldest child; his father was very strict and a “prominent” merchant, per EBSCO, and his domineering nature caused a very strained relationship between him and Kafka, which you can later see in Kafka’s works. The family lived in the Josefstadt, which was the Jewish ghetto section of the city. Kafka died of tuberculosis in 1924 at the age of 40, but his three younger sisters all died during the Nazi Holocaust. 

Kafka’s writings inspired the adjective “Kafkaesque,” which means something relates to his work, especially if it has “a nightmarishly complex, bizarre or illogical quality,” per the Merriam-Webster dictionary. The Metamorphosis is maybe the best example of this, because it tells the story of a man who wakes up one day as a bug. It is, of course, surreal and terrifying, but at its core the story deals with existential dread and alienation, which was very relatable at the time (and still is). 

Today’s quote by Kafka is from a book of conversations he had with a friend, and talks about the beauty of youthfulness and how it isn’t jaded by the world yet.

“Youth is happy, because it has the ability to see beauty.”

This quote is from the book Conversations with Kafka, by Gustav Janouch, a Czech poet and memoirist. He knew Kafka through his father and became “fascinated” by him, so he recorded and wrote down their conversations for “posterity,” per New Directions Publishing. According to Goodreads, Janouch and Kafka—who were about 17 and 37 at the time, respectively—would take long walks together through Prague, talking at length about things that Janouch found to be “amazing” and “incisive.” Some argue that these accounts aren’t fully accurate, while others admire how well it depicts Kafka.

The section this quote is in begins with Janouch talking to Kafka about Kafka’s story The Stoker and how “there is so much sunshine and high spirits” in it. Kafka then responds with why that is: children and young people—“youth”—are the subject, even if they are “not in the story.” He then says:

“Youth is full of sunshine and love. Youth is happy, because it has the ability to see beauty. When this ability is lost, wretched old age begins, decay, unhappiness.”

Janouch then asks, “So age excludes the possibility of happiness?” To which Kafka responds, “No, happiness excludes age… Anyone who keeps the ability to see beauty never grows old.”

Deeper Meaning of Franz Kafka’s Quote—Connection Between Happiness and Wonder

The one line of the quote that we’re highlighting today is meaningful on its own. But given Kafka’s whole sentiment, it’s an even more beautiful way to view the world.

When Kafka says, “Youth is happy, because it has the ability to see beauty,” he’s saying that childlike wonder and innocence give younger people and kids this innate capacity to see and embrace the beauty in this world. They can see the wonderfulness in the smallest things and aren’t jaded by society yet. Not that children don’t know pain or sadness, but they experience the lovely nature of things and see beauty all around them, to their core. 

He then says that “wretched” old age sets in, leading to unhappiness once they aren’t able to “see beauty” anymore, implying that the fatigue and hate of the world have finally gotten to them and they’ve “grown up” and out of their youth. Kafka clarifies that getting old doesn’t mean you can’t be happy, but rather “happiness excludes age.” He then finishes his thought with maybe the best line of his statement by saying that you can have a forever youthfulness if you keep your ability to see beauty.

Kafka’s point is that the soul can stay “young” and have a childlike wonder if you continue to see the good in things. If you can acknowledge the beauty in little things and not get bogged down and weathered by life, you can keep that youthful happiness. If we choose to lean into curiosity, awe and reverence for the beautiful aspects of life, we can stay forever young—in a way.

Ella Langley is getting closer to a major piece of Billboard history as her hit song “Choosin’ Texas” holds the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for the 18th week.

The country star’s first Hot 100 leader is now just one week away from tying the longest run at No. 1 among non-holiday songs in the chart’s history. The song first reached the top in February and has continued its long stay there through the latest chart week.

According to Billboard, only three songs have spent more time at No. 1 on the Hot 100. Mariah Carey’s holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” leads the all-time list with 22 weeks, while Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, each spent 19 weeks at the summit.

That puts “Choosin’ Texas” alongside some of the biggest chart hits of the modern era. If it remains at No. 1 for another week, it will tie the 19-week record shared by Shaboozey and Lil Nas X for the longest command by a non-holiday song.

“Choosin’ Texas” posted strong numbers across streaming, radio and sales during the latest tracking period.

Billboard reported that the song earned 25 million official streams in the United States from Aug. 7 through Aug. 13, up 1% from the previous week. It also recorded 54.6 million radio airplay audience impressions and sold 8,000 copies.

The song’s success is not limited to the Hot 100.

Langley’s hit is spending its 18th week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart and its 15th week atop Digital Song Sales. It also remains at No. 6 on Radio Songs after previously reaching No. 4.

On the Hot Country Songs chart, “Choosin’ Texas” is even further into its historic run. The single has now led the multimetric country chart for 36 weeks. It is also spending an 11th week at No. 1 on Billboard’s Songs of the Summer chart. The song first appeared on the Hot Country Songs chart in November 2025 and reached No. 1 about a month later.

Langley has also scored three No. 1 songs on the Country Airplay chart. “Choosin’ Texas” spent three weeks at the top, while “Be Her” held the position for four weeks. Her collaboration with Morgan Wallen, “I Can’t Love You Anymore,” also reached No. 1.

The latest chart milestone came after a busy weekend for Langley in Texas during her 2026 The Dandelion Tour.

She performed in Austin, Corpus Christi and Fort Worth and later shared photos and video from the shows on Instagram.

Her recent Texas posts also drew attention from Drake. The rapper commented, “Goated pen,” alongside a pen emoji, praising Langley’s songwriting.

The interaction came shortly after Langley shared a TikTok in which she lip-synced to Drake and Lil Wayne’s 2011 song “HYFR.”

Langley’s chart success has continued during a busy year that also included the release of her second album, Dandelion.

Faith No More, an influential rock band from the ‘80s, is teasing fans with more exciting news as they gear up for their highly anticipated 2027 tour.

Marking as the band’s grand live comeback, they will have their first live shows in more than a decade, this time alongside fellow music veterans System of a Down.

In an update for the upcoming tour, Faith No More, the five-piece band made up of Mike Patton on lead vocals, Billy Gould on bass guitar, Mike Bordin on drums, Roddy Bottum on keyboards and rhythm guitar and Jon Hudson on lead guitar, announced additional dates for the concert run.

On Instagram, the band revealed it will perform at Rio de Janeiro’s Maracanã Stadium on Jan. 15.

The event, billed as One Night Only, will feature intense live performances from System of a Down and Faith No More.

Tickets for the upcoming show will go on general sale on Aug. 21 while presales begin on Aug. 19.

The concert will mark Faith No More’s first return to Brazil since September 2015, when they performed at the Rock in Rio festival and headlined a show in São Paulo.

In June, the band hinted at exciting activities scheduled for next year by sharing a cryptic post featuring a photo of a crowd with the text “2027.”

A month later, Faith No More officially announced a four-date co-headlining tour with System of a Down, covering major cities in Australia and New Zealand.

“It’s been a minute. Let’s do this, Australia and NZ. Joining our friends @systemofadown as we take over stadiums Jan/Feb 2027,” the caption reads.

Apart from Brazil, Australia and New Zealand, the rock band hinted at more dates and locations for the tour in the future.

“We’re gonna do it. We’re gonna play,” he told the Rock Talk podcast when asked about plans for 2027. “We’re definitely going to be in Europe. We’re definitely going to be in South America and Australia, and the US.”

The series of exciting shows will serve as the band’s live reunion following their official disbandment in 1998, their first reunion being The Second Coming Tour, which ran from 2009 to 2012, and the release of their final studio album, Sol Invictus, in 2015.

Some songs become far bigger than their highest chart position.

Aerosmith released “Dream On” on its self-titled debut album in 1973. Although the power ballad never reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, it became one of the band’s signature songs and remains a classic 53 years later.

Steven Tyler began developing the music as a teenager, years before Aerosmith formed. His father was a classically trained pianist and Tyler spent part of his childhood listening beneath the family’s Steinway, an experience that influenced the song’s chords.

The singer later explained that its message reflected the band’s ambition during its early years.

“It’s about dreaming until your dreams come true,” Tyler said. “It’s about the hunger and desire and ambition to be somebody that Aerosmith felt in those days.”

“Dream On” was released as a single in June 1973, but its first run on the charts was modest. The song peaked at No. 59 nationally, though it received considerably more attention in the band’s hometown of Boston.

Its fortunes changed after Aerosmith found greater success with Toys in the Attic and songs including “Sweet Emotion” and “Walk This Way.” Columbia Records reissued “Dream On” in late 1975, giving the ballad another opportunity to reach a wider audience.

The second release climbed to No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 1976, becoming Aerosmith’s first Top 10 hit. It never reached the top spot, but its lasting popularity ultimately surpassed what its chart peak might suggest.

“Dream On” was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2018, recognizing its historical significance. Five years later, it surpassed one billion streams on Spotify.

More than half a century after its release, the song’s gradual rise feels fitting. “Dream On” may never have been a No. 1 hit, but generations of listeners have made it one of rock’s most recognizable and beloved ballads.

Global music icon Ricky Martin and Brazilian star Pedro Sampaio will perform at the halftime show of the 2026 NFL Rio Game, bringing Latin pop and Brazilian funk to Maracanã Stadium on Sept. 27.

The Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys will play in the game, which marks the first NFL regular-season game held in Rio de Janeiro. Kickoff is set for 4:25 p.m. ET.

The NFL announced that the Ricky Martin and Pedro Sampaio halftime performance will be the second of seven halftime shows presented by American Express during the league’s 2026 International Games. The schedule will take the NFL across seven countries and four continents, making it the league’s biggest international season to date.

The news quickly drew excitement from fans online. 

“It’s going to be a banger! Unmissable game and show here on my screen! 🏈🎶” one person wrote.

Another said, “This is going to be too incredible ❤️,” while another fan reacted, “I can’t even believe it 😍”

Others highlighted the scale of the pairing.

For Sampaio, the 2026 NFL Rio Game will have a special meaning. The Brazilian DJ, singer and producer grew up in Rio de Janeiro and will perform at Maracanã Stadium in his hometown.

“I grew up in Rio de Janeiro, seeing Maracanã Stadium as a place where history was made. I never imagined that my first time performing on that field would be alongside Ricky Martin, who has always been a huge inspiration to me. It’s hard to put into words,” Sampaio said.

Sampaio has built a major following in Brazil and beyond. He has amassed more than 14 billion audio and video streams and has more than 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify, according to the NFL. He was nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2024 and is known for mixing Brazilian funk with pop and electronic music.

His 2026 Brazilian Chaos tour has also taken his live show to North America and Europe, including stops in Mexico, the United States, Switzerland, Italy, Portugal, Spain, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland and the United Kingdom.

Martin, meanwhile, brings more than three decades of music experience to the Maracanã stage. The Puerto Rican superstar has sold more than 95 million albums worldwide and is known for global hits including “Livin’ La Vida Loca.”

“2026 has been a year filled with wonderful opportunities, and this is certainly one of them. Being part of another historic NFL event alongside Pedro Sampaio is incredibly exciting, especially because it brings me back to one of my favorite places in the world: Rio,” Martin said.

The performance comes after a busy period for Martin, who recently concluded the Ricky Martin Live tour across Asia and Europe. He has also announced plans for more performances in the Americas, including a return to Puerto Rico.

The NFL said the Rio Game is part of its largest international schedule in a single season. The nine-game international slate will include stops in London, Madrid, Melbourne, Mexico City, Munich, Paris and Rio de Janeiro.

The halftime show will air live in Brazil on Globo’s GETV and sportv channels. Limited-edition merchandise celebrating the performances will also be available at NFL Shops in Rio.

The announcement follows the previously confirmed Jonas Brothers performance at the 2026 NFL Melbourne Game on Sept. 10 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which will be the first NFL game played in Australia.

Let’s be honest: A cancer diagnosis can leave you speechless, even if you’re a card-carrying extrovert. It’s one word no one wants to hear, but unfortunately, more than 1 million new cases of cancer are diagnosed each year.

However, as a medical oncologist at City of Hope, Dr. Krushangi Patel, MD, wishes patients would ask a few other questions before beginning cancer treatment. For instance, she says it’s crucial to ask, “What is the goal of the treatment?”

“Knowing whether treatment is intended to cure the cancer, control it or relieve symptoms helps you understand every recommendation that follows,” Dr. Patel tells Parade.

You’ll also want to ask about expected side effects. “Understanding what may happen and when to call your care team helps patients manage treatment more confidently and safely,” she adds.

However, Dr. Patel shares that you may have multiple treatment options, but many patients don’t realize that.

“Cancer treatment often begins with a series of important decisions, so I encourage patients to take the time to understand all of the treatment options available to them,” she explains.

Asking one specific question before starting cancer treatment can help you get a fuller picture of your options. Dr. Patel reveals the question below, along with guidance on how to consider your care team’s answer.

‘I’m an Oncologist—the One Question I Wish Every Patient Asked Before Treatment Begins’

As an oncologist, Dr. Patel wishes every patient would ask, “Are there any clinical trials I should consider before we start treatment?”

“Even if a clinical trial isn’t the right choice for you, asking the question helps ensure you’ve explored every appropriate option and can move forward with confidence,” she explains.

A clinical trial is a term that gets thrown around a bunch when talking about health (you may remember the clinical trials on the COVID-19 vaccine, for instance). What does it really mean, though, especially if you’re preparing for cancer treatment?

“Clinical trials are research studies that evaluate new ways to prevent, diagnose or treat cancer,” Dr. Patel says. “Some study new medications, while others look at new combinations of existing treatments or better ways to manage side effects.”

She adds that many of today’s standard-of-care cancer treatments are available because of the patients who enrolled in clinical trials, explaining, “They’re an important way to improve cancer care, both for today’s patients and for future generations.”

Dr. Patel shares that, unfortunately, there’s a common misunderstanding that clinical trials are nothing but “a last resort.” 

“In reality, they’re available at many different stages of care, including for some patients who are just beginning treatment,” she says.

Dr. Patel adds that some people may not hear about clinical trials because:

• They’re not offered at every treatment center, and some require travel to larger cancer centers with active research programs.
• There may be eligibility requirements.
• Availability will be based on specific studies.

That said, there is some recent promising data on clinical trial participation. A 2024 Journal of Clinical Oncology study found that enrollment in cancer treatment trials was 7.1%, higher than previous estimates of less than 5%.

Still, you won’t know if you’re eligible unless you ask (or your oncologist brings it up).

Am I a Good Fit for a Cancer Clinical Trial?

Dr. Patel points out that there’s no single type of patient who qualifies as a “good candidate” for cancer clinical trials.

“Every clinical trial has its own eligibility requirements based on factors like the type of cancer, its stage, previous treatments, molecular changes and receptors on your tumor and your overall health,” she shares.

However, Dr. Patel emphasizes that it’s important not to rule yourself out for a clinical trial on your own.

“Ask your oncologist whether there’s a clinical trial that might be a good fit for you,” she says. “If the answer is no, you’ll still have the confidence of knowing the option was considered.”

One follow-up question to ask as part of this conversation includes, “Has my tumor been tested for biomarkers or genetic changes?”

“This testing can help identify targeted therapies or determine whether certain clinical trials may be an option,” Dr. Patel adds.

Next Steps if You’re a Fit for a Clinical Trial: What To Consider and Where To Find One

Once you have all of the information on whether you’re a potential fit for clinical trials, Dr. Patel shares that you’ll want to do some additional reflecting and searching. Here are the steps for deciding whether to enroll in a cancer treatment clinical trial and where to find one.

1. Think about your goals

What do you, personally, hope to get out of a clinical trial (and your cancer treatment more generally)? A better quality of life? A potentially higher chance of survival? It all matters when determining whether a clinical trial is a good option for your cancer treatment.

“A clinical trial can be the best way to get a leading-edge treatment that is not yet widely available, and it is an opportunity for you to take an active role in your health care,” Dr. Patel says. “Your participation may also help patients in the future. The right decision is the one that aligns with your goals after you’ve had all the information.”

2. Ask how the trial compares with standard-of-care treatment

Yes, you’ll want to ask some more questions. Depending on your goals and comfort level, the standard-of-care treatment may or may not be a better option than enrolling in a clinical trial.

“Understand what the current standard of care would be, how the trial differs and why your doctor thinks it may be worth considering,” Dr. Patel shares.

3. Understand the commitment

Any cancer treatment involves time and even possible side effects like fatigue, and you may have a full life of caregiving and work to tend to in the meantime. “Ask about extra visits, overnight stays, testing, travel and time involved,” Dr. Patel suggests. “A trial should fit not only your medical needs, but also your life.”

4. Tap resources

Before turning to the internet, Dr. Patel advises people to speak with their oncologist, who understands their personal diagnosis and may know of trials happening in the area.

“If a trial isn’t available where you’re receiving care, ask whether another cancer center offers one and whether a referral makes sense,” she says.

Other resources include the National Cancer Institute, ClinicalTrials.gov and comprehensive cancer centers that offer clinical trials.

“These resources can help you understand what’s available and prepare for a conversation with your care team,” Dr. Patel explains.

One of the most emotional power ballads from Celine Dion‘s discography is going down in history as one of Billboard’s best-ever No. 2 hits.

According to a newly-published list of the 100 Best Billboard Hot 100 No. 2 Hits list, curated by Billboard staff, Dion’s “It’s All Coming Back To Me” is considered one of the Top 20 best songs to ever peak at No. 2 spot on the Hot 100 chart.

“It’s All Coming Back To Me” was released as a single from Dion’s album Falling Into You in 1996. It soared toward the top of the Hot 100, but never reached the coveted No. 1 position. Instead, the song spent five weeks at No. 2, blocked from the top spot by other chart mega-hits at the time, “Macarena (Bayside Boys Mix)” by Los Del Rio and “No Diggity” by Blackstreet feat. Dr. Dre.

But even without ever reaching No. 1, “It’s All Coming Back To Me” has become one of the most enduring hits from Dion’s catalog.

Written by composer and lyricist Jim Steinman, the heartbreaking power ballad is said to have been influenced by the gothic Emily Brontë novel “Wuthering Heights,” which Steinman has said is one of his favorite books.

“‘It’s All Coming Back To Me Now’ is my attempt to write the most passionate, romantic song I could ever write,” Steinman is quoted with saying, according to his official website. “I was writing it while under the influence of Wuthering Heights.”

“This song is an erotic motorcycle. It’s like Heathcliff digging up Cathy’s corpse and dancing with it in the cold moonlight,” he said. “You can’t get more extreme, operatic or passionate than that.”

Prior to Dion’s famous rendition, “It’s All Coming Back To Me” had first been recorded by the Steinman-assembled female pop group Pandora’s Box in 1989, and it was later covered by Meat Loaf as a duet with Marion Raven in 2006.

Hayden Panettiere reportedly suffered from “severe” health issues in the months leading up to her shocking death at age 35.

“I know she suffered earlier this year with her back,” Panettiere’s hairdresser and close friend, Erick Orellana, told Page Six on Monday, Aug. 17.

Orellana described the actress’s pain as “really severe,” noting that she experienced mobility issues and, at times, had difficulty moving her legs. A source close to Panettiere similarly told TMZ that she had been complaining of back pain over the past year.

Panettiere was also photographed using crutches while walking with her boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, at Los Angeles International Airport in March.

However, Orellana said Panettiere appeared to be improving in the weeks before her sudden passing, noting that she was “starting to be on the mend.”

Another unnamed source told the outlet that Panettiere “suffered from anxiety at times” and would “occasionally take medication for that.” 

“And every so often that could impact her speech,” the insider said.

Panettiere’s father, Skip Panettiere, confirmed her death to ABC News on the evening of Sunday, Aug. 16.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen,” Skip said in a statement.

He asked for privacy “as our family takes time to process this unimaginable loss.”

Police told NBC News that they, “accompanied by EMS personnel, responded to a report of an unresponsive female” at around 1:50 p.m. ET on Sunday.

According to dispatch audio obtained by People, law enforcement officials were heard discussing an “overdose” and “cardiac arrest” around the time of Panettiere’s death.

“I don’t have any more information at this time, but it’s looking as though that is the case,” a representative for Panettiere told the publication.
