Three films ranked among the greatest movies ever made are finally coming together in a single collector's edition.

Criterion Collection has announced The Complete Kubrick, an unprecedented 30-disc 4K UHD and Blu-ray box set arriving Oct. 20 that brings together all 13 of legendary director Stanley Kubrick's feature films and three early short films for the first time.

The collection includes three films recognized by the American Film Institute among the 100 greatest American movies ever made: 2001: A Space Odyssey at No. 22, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb at No. 26 and A Clockwork Orange at No. 46.

The expansive set traces Kubrick's remarkable career from his earliest independent films through some of the most influential movies in cinema history. Along with newly restored 4K presentations, the collection includes each film's original soundtrack alongside remastered 5.1 surround sound mixes.

Criterion described Kubrick as "a titan of cinema" whose work reshaped popular filmmaking across multiple genres, from war films and historical epics to science fiction, horror, political satire and psychological drama.

The announcement also comes as Barnes & Noble's popular annual Criterion Collection sale gets underway. While The Complete Kubrick carries a $599.99 list price, Barnes & Noble is currently offering the box set for preorder at $419.99 as part of its month-long Criterion promotion.

That sale, which runs through July 26, offers 50 percent off many Criterion releases and has become one of the retailer's most anticipated annual events for movie collectors.

The Complete Kubrick will be released on Oct. 20.

However, the episode ends with Aniya Harvey, who was hoping to reunite with her partner, K.C., being left single and vulnerable, while he returned coupled up with Tierra Davis. She was last seen crying, saying she should've picked Carl.

Viewers now have the opportunity to bring back one of the dumped Casa boys and girls.

Dream Big, Then Plan The Details

This is where the dream needs to get specific. Sure, you may want to eat your way across Europe, but what does that actually look like? This is the stage where you make specific plans. Taking a chocolate tempering class in Switzerland before visiting a French pastry shop that creates the best croissants, followed by a pasta-making class in Italy. Does having communal paella in Spain make the list, or will you go deep-sea fishing in Greece before heading to one of the islands to grill what you caught?

You need to figure out the specific plans of your journey, including travel days, rest days, activities, accommodations, and how you’ll get around. Having the specifics locked down is the essential first step, as we learned from Bayntree Wealth Advisors. Once you can see the big picture, complete with the details, you can begin to plan the budget.

Figure Out The Tab

Now that you have your itinerary, it’s time to begin pricing it out. If your timing is flexible, try shopping around travel websites or setting alerts to find the best prices on flights and accommodations. Going to a popular destination during the off-season (or slightly before or after the regular season) may net you great discounts while still allowing you to see the sights. 

Mutual of Omaha has a great list of expenses to plan for when creating your travel budget. They include:

• Travel expenses like airfare, passports, and lodging
• Activity costs
• Transportation
• Healthcare while abroad
• Overseas phone plans
• Currency exchange
• A buffer amount

This last line item, the buffer amount, is essential because there are always unexpected issues that arise while traveling. Bankrate says you should include a 10%-15% buffer for unexpected expenses. 

Save Strategically

If you don’t have the funds to immediately take your dream vacation, that doesn’t mean it’s off the table. Saving for this adventure will look a lot like it did when you were still working. Maybe you cut some out of your monthly fun budget or hold off on replacing unnecessary items. You could even take a small part-time job to supplement your income, putting your paychecks directly into your travel budget. 

Don’t forget to optimize your money. Sign up for a credit card that gives you travel rewards points. If you put all your monthly spending on the card, then pay it off at the end of the month, you’ll rack up free flights, hotels, and cars quickly. The key is to spend only what you would anyway, but get rewarded for it.

Plan For Your Needs

If you have mobility needs or follow a prescribed diet, you’ll have to take that into account when planning. People with Celiac Disease will have to do some extra planning to find safe food in Japan. Anyone with medical issues, like arthritis, that act up in the cold, will need some extra self-care when wandering around Germany’s Christmas Markets. 

Make sure to include your needs in your plans. Medicare doesn’t actually cover you abroad, so you’ll want to price out travel insurance. Look into supplemental travel medical insurance or a Medigap plan that covers foreign emergencies. This is supposed to be the trip of a lifetime, and you don’t want a medical need to ruin it or cut it short.

As you start planning, remember that this is your dream and it deserves the time and effort it takes to make it a reality. When you write everything down and account for the details, you’re setting yourself up for an amazing time.

Josh Peckrecently opened up to Haley Sacks on her podcast ‘Financial Tea with Mrs. Dow Jones,’ revealing that he made roughly $125,000 per year as a star of the tween comedy Drake & Josh. 

Peck explained his financial past, saying, “I came from a lot of financial insecurity growing up. I had a single mom, as an only child, and we sort of vacillated between being lower-middle-class and being broke. But she worked in sales, so sometimes we had a great year, and I was getting like a new pair of Jordans, and sometimes I was like calling my grandma to help us pay for dinner because we had like $0.”

The former Nickelodeon child actor continued, “And when I started working, on Drake & Josh specifically, and I’ve talked about this, because when I was writing my book, I wasn’t very transparent with it, the financials in my book…We started out making $3,000 an episode on The Amanda Show, and then by the time we finished Drake & Josh, so that was like 60 episodes total for the whole show, the average rate per episode was about $15,000.”

According to Peck, “So over four years we ended up making about $900,000. But I think we probably between agent, manager, and taxes, we cleared half of that.” 

“Really, we were making about $125,000 a year.” Even though that may seem like a lot for a teenager, Peck did note, “People always will say, compared to so many other tougher jobs, like who are you to say anything.”

He added, “and I go, ‘I’m not.’ People always assume that it’s so much more, and why would you ever have to work again? But of course, if you made the salary of a dentist or something like that, you couldn’t just stop working after four years.” Peck is correct; people do have plenty to say. And of course, it’s all on social media. 

In a recent Reddit thread, one commenter wrote, “Way better than I get in four years of busting my hump daily in a warehouse,” and another replied (with more than just a subtle hint of sarcasm), “Oh nooo he was a kid making 200k a year. Sounds terrible.” 

Another critic posted a more in-depth look at Josh’s income: “He said he took home around $500,000 over four years, while he was roughly 16 to 20 years old. Objectively speaking, that’s an extraordinary income for someone that age with limited education and no hard skills. Period.”

Even though critics panned Peck’s interview, some had a different view. One fan wrote, “The point is that they didn't make life-changing ‘set for life, money after four years” and another chimed in, posting, “The point stands. You can’t retire on that. Not even close.” 

For many Americans, retirement can feel financially out of reach. Headlines often suggest you need millions of dollars to stop working comfortably. But financial experts say that's not always the case. The key isn't replacing your entire paycheck — it's understanding how your spending changes once you retire.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, average household spending generally declines after age 65, particularly on transportation, payroll taxes, and retirement savings contributions. Meanwhile, the Social Security Administration (SSA) notes that Social Security provides an inflation-adjusted source of lifetime income for eligible retirees, helping many households cover essential expenses.

Retirement Often Costs Less Than Your Working Years

One of the biggest misconceptions is that retirees need to replace a large portion of their pre-retirement income. 

Aaron M. Smith, president and founder of Aaron Smith Financial & Insurance Group told Parade: "The biggest misconception is the idea that you need to replace 70% to 80% of your pre-retirement salary. Many retirees find they can maintain the same lifestyle on roughly 50% to 60% of what they used to make."

That's because retirement often eliminates what Smith calls the "work tax" — commuting costs, work clothes, lunches out, payroll taxes, and retirement contributions.

Christopher Walsh, Senior Advisor and Regional Director at Capital Choice Arizona, sees the same trend with his clients, telling Parade: "Somewhere between 60 and 70 cents on the dollar is generally what's feasible. With proper planning, your actual expenses in retirement can drop dramatically." 

A Paid-Off Home Can Be a Retirement Game Changer

According to Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), housing is often the largest expense in retirement, so entering retirement mortgage-free can significantly improve financial flexibility.

Smith said, "If your home is paid off and your fixed expenses are low, you can strategically draw from a blend of Roth, Traditional IRAs, and brokerage accounts to keep your taxable income low."

Walsh adds that avoiding mortgage payments also means retirees don't have to withdraw as much from tax-deferred retirement accounts, allowing more of those investments to continue growing.

Social Security and Medicare Provide an Important Foundation

Many retirees underestimate how much guaranteed income and government benefits contribute to their financial security.

Leah Hadley, founder and senior wealth advisor at Intentional Wealth Partners, told Parade these programs form the backbone of many retirement plans.

She said, "Social Security provides a guaranteed income floor. Medicare replaces expensive private insurance. A paid-off home eliminates your largest monthly expense. And because you're no longer earning a high working income, your tax bracket often drops significantly."

The SSA also says Social Security is designed to replace a portion of pre-retirement earnings, while Medicare can substantially reduce healthcare costs after age 65, though beneficiaries should still budget for premiums and out-of-pocket expenses.

Focus on Your Income Gap, Not a Magic Savings Number

Experts caution against fixating on a single retirement savings target, such as $1 million or $2 million. Instead, they recommend calculating how much income you'll actually need after accounting for guaranteed benefits.

"There is no magic number," Smith says. "If your gap is $20,000 a year, using a standard 4% withdrawal rate, you only need $500,000 saved—not the $2 million the talking heads on TV insist you need."

Walsh uses a similar approach with clients, estimating annual spending needs, subtracting expected Social Security income, and using the remaining gap to determine an appropriate savings goal.

The Fidelity Retirement Score and emphasize creating a personalized retirement income plan rather than relying solely on broad savings benchmarks.

Our Nation’s Capital

Washington, D.C., is the heart of the nation and is hosting a large celebration starting with a ceremonial reenactment of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This will be followed by the National Independence Day Parade, baseball at Nationals Park, and a National Park Service fireworks show.

For seniors who love to travel, D.C. is offering special hotel packages and Semiquincentennial events at museums, restaurants, and neighborhoods throughout the city if you can’t make it for the Fourth. 

New York City and The Tall Ships Review

Along with Philadelphia and D.C., New York City is rooted in American history. It’s only fitting that the five boroughs welcome the U.S. Navy to host the seventh International Fleet Review in New York Harbor on July 4 this year. There are expected to be 60 ships from 30 countries.

America250 is hosting a Giving 4th Broadcast Benefit Show at One Times Square, featuring performers and non-profits. If you can’t make it to The Big Apple this year, you can watch the performance streaming from your own hometown celebration.

America’s Block Party

If traveling isn’t possible for you, be part of America’s Block Party. This nationwide event is being held from July 3-5 in 7 cities across the country. The World Cup is currently being hosted in the Americas, including the U.S., Canada, and Mexico. With the summer solstice already having taken place on June 21, the Strawberry Moon serves as the first full moon of astronomical summer, adding even more seasonal significance to June's lunar display.

Despite its fruity name, the Strawberry Moon is not linked to color but rather to seasonal timing. The name is commonly attributed to Algonquin-speaking peoples, who used lunar cycles to track natural events like picking strawberries in early summer. In Europe, it was sometimes called the Honey Moon, Rose Moon or Mead Moon, reflecting similar seasonal harvest events and blooming flowers. These traditional names illustrate how cultures throughout history have used the Moon's cycles to mark seasonal changes and important moments in everyday life.

When to See the Strawberry Moon at Its Brightest

The Strawberry Moon will reach its peak during the evening at 7:57 p.m. EDT (2357 GMT) on June 29. Observers in North America will have the best viewing opportunity shortly after sunset, when the moon appears largest near the horizon is an optical effect known as the 'moon illusion'. The warm tones will also be most noticeable early on as its moonlight passes through the thicker layers of Earth’s atmosphere.

This year's Strawberry Moon also happens to be a micromoon, meaning the full moon occurs when the Moon is near apogee—the farthest point in its orbit from Earth. As a result, it will appear slightly smaller and dimmer than an average full moon, but will still be a great sight to glimpse on a clear night.

According to NASA, a smartphone can produce impressive Moon photos with a little practice. For the best results, turn off your flash, tap the Moon on your screen to lock focus, and lower the exposure so the Moon's surface details remain visible instead of appearing as a bright white circle.

Not everybody knows Richard Berry's name, but most people probably know his music. He wrote some of the biggest hits in rock history, even if they were recorded by other people: The iconic "Louie Louie," as performed by the Kingsmen in 1963, and "Have Love Will Travel," turned into a major hit by influential garage rock band the The Sonics in 1965.

Berry's slower, more R&B-influenced version of "Have Love Will Travel," released in 1960, didn't make an impression on too many listeners, but some people were paying attention...namely, other musicians. It's not clear whether The Sonics first heard Berry's version or Paul Revere & the Raiders' cover, which was released in 1964. Either way, when The Sonics got ahold of the song, "Have Love Will Travel" became one of the defining anthems of the '60s.

As Michael Hann wrote for the Financial Times in 2021, The Sonics' take on the tune "slightly changed the key, making the central riff — a series of steps up and down — sound monstrous rather than affectionate. Singer Gerry Roslie opened the song with a scream, and Rob Lind’s saxophone solo didn’t bother with anything so bourgeois as a melody, consisting instead of a series of frantic squawks."

"Have Love, Will Travel" wasn't just a major success when it was released on The Sonics' 1965 album Here Are the Sonics — it's remained a classic in the decades since, thanks in part to the song's frequent use in commercials, TV, and movies. A few notable examples include a 2004 Land Rover Discovery campaign, a BMW ad, and the trailer for John Wick.

Of course, it's no surprise that "Have Love, Will Travel" ended up being a popular pick for car commercials, considering the road trip-ready lyrics (which would work just as well for air, sea or railway journeys):

Oh pretty baby, will I travel
I said if you need loving then
Mm, I'll travel

Well, I might take a boat, or I'll take a plane
I might hitchhike or jump a railroad train
You're kind of love drives a man insane
So look for me walking just a any old way

In 2015, Lind told American Songwriter that "Have Love, Will Travel" was still bringing live audiences to their feet.

"There are two songs that get the biggest response from the crowd. One is 'Have Love, Will Travel' — that riff is pretty noteworthy," Lind said.

"We’ve been playing that since we were 17 and it’s been in countless worldwide commercials and movies," the saxophonist continued. "For some reason, it just strikes a chord with people. All Larry has to do is play those first three or four notes and the crowd goes crazy."

As for Berry, while he never really got the recognition he truly deserved, his career did end on something of a high note. Though he initially sold the rights to "Louie Louie" for just $750, according to Goldmine Magazine, he was able to get the rights back years later and enjoyed a lucrative resurgence in the '90s, making music and touring. He died at the age of 61 in 1997 after suffering a massive heart attack.

The rise of celebrity chefs transformed cooking from a practical household skill into a form of entertainment. However, celebrity status comes with intense public scrutiny. As audiences have become increasingly aware of workplace behavior, discrimination, harassment and other forms of misconduct, the food industry has faced many of the same reckonings that have swept through Hollywood, media and corporate America.

The rise of social media and investigative journalism has made it easier for allegations to become public, while changing cultural expectations have led many fans and business partners to reevaluate who they choose to support. In some cases, allegations resulted in the loss of television contracts, sponsorships and business opportunities. In others, entire restaurant empires crumbled under the weight of scandal.

The concept of being "canceled" can mean different things to different people. Some chefs have largely disappeared from the public eye, while others have continued working despite reputational damage. Regardless of the outcome, these controversies dramatically altered careers that once seemed unstoppable, and several prominent food personalities became cautionary examples of how quickly fame can unravel when troubling behavior or serious allegations come to light.

Food Stars Canceled for Scandals

These seven celebrity chefs once thrived in the spotlight, but allegations ranging from misconduct and racism to workplace controversies damaged their reputations and led to a decline in their television careers and business influence.

1. Mario Batali

Mario Batali was one of the biggest stars on Food Network during the late 1990s and early 2000s, hosting programs such as Molto Mario, Mario Eats Italy and Ciao America. He later became a co-host on ABC's daytime talk show The Chew, which introduced him to an even broader audience. Beyond television, Batali co-owned the highly acclaimed New York restaurants Babbo, Del Posto, Lupa Osteria Romana and Esca, helping build one of the most successful restaurant groups in the country.

In December 2017, multiple women accused Batali of sexual misconduct, including unwanted touching and inappropriate behavior that allegedly occurred over many years. Following the allegations, ABC fired him from The Chew, and Food Network removed several of his programs from its lineup. Batali stepped away from operations at the Batali & Bastianich Hospitality Group, and by 2019 he had sold his ownership stake in the company.

The scandal effectively ended his mainstream television career and dramatically altered his standing within the culinary industry.

2. Paula Deen

Paula Deen became one of Food Network's most recognizable personalities through popular programs such as Paula's Home Cooking, Paula's Party and Paula's Best Dishes. Her Southern cooking style and friendly personality helped her build a multimillion-dollar brand that included cookbooks, kitchen products and restaurants such as The Lady & Sons in Savannah, Georgia.

Her career took a major hit in 2013 after testimony from a legal deposition became public during a workplace discrimination lawsuit. In the deposition, Deen acknowledged having used a racial slur in the past. The backlash was immediate. Food Network announced it would not renew her contract, ending her long-running relationship with the network.

Major corporate partners, including Smithfield Foods, Walmart, Target, QVC and JCPenney, also ended business relationships with her. Although Deen later returned to television through smaller networks and independent projects, she never regained the level of mainstream influence she once enjoyed.

3. Josh Besh

John Besh built a culinary empire in New Orleans through restaurants that included Restaurant August, Luke, Domenica, Borgne and Johnny Sánchez. He was also a television personality who appeared on programs such as Top Chef Masters and hosted cooking shows on public television. For years, Besh was viewed as one of the leading ambassadors of New Orleans cuisine.

In 2017, reports surfaced detailing allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct involving employees within the Besh Restaurant Group. More than two dozen current and former workers described an environment where inappropriate behavior was allegedly tolerated.

Shortly after the reports were published, Besh announced he was stepping down as CEO of the company. The organization was eventually renamed the BRG Hospitality Group in an effort to distance itself from the controversy. While some restaurants continued operating successfully, Besh's public profile declined sharply.

4. Graham Elliot

Graham Elliot rose to fame through appearances as a judge on Fox's MasterChef and MasterChef Junior alongside Gordon Ramsay and Joe Bastianich. His restaurants, including Graham Elliot Bistro and the Michelin-starred Graham Elliot, helped establish him as one of Chicago's most prominent chefs.

Unlike some chefs whose careers collapsed due to personal misconduct allegations, Elliot faced criticism tied primarily to labor and workplace issues associated with his restaurant operations. Former employees raised concerns regarding compensation and workplace practices, prompting scrutiny from critics and labor advocates.

While the controversy generated negative publicity, it did not completely derail his career. Elliot continued making television appearances and remained active in the culinary world, though the criticism affected perceptions of his business leadership.

5. Mike Isabella

In 2017, former employees filed a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment and describing a hostile workplace environment. Additional allegations emerged in media reports, creating significant damage to Isabella's reputation. The controversy coincided with financial difficulties across several of his businesses.

By 2018 and 2019, numerous restaurants in his portfolio had closed, and his restaurant group eventually filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Isabella's public profile largely disappeared as his once-promising culinary empire unraveled.

Anne Thornton became a familiar face to Food Network viewers through her dessert-focused series Desserts by the Pound, which premiered in 2009. The show showcased indulgent baked goods and creative sweets, helping Thornton quickly build a loyal fan base. At the time, many viewers expected her to become one of the network's next breakout stars.

However, her television career was surprisingly short-lived. Desserts by the Pound lasted only two seasons, and Thornton largely disappeared from Food Network programming after 2011. One controversy that followed her involved allegations that several recipes featured on her show closely resembled recipes previously published by other well-known food personalities, including Martha Stewart and Ina Garten, with only minor modifications.

While the allegations generated discussion among food bloggers and viewers, Food Network never publicly cited recipe disputes as the reason for her departure. Because few details surrounding her exit were ever disclosed, her disappearance from the network remains one of Food Network's most enduring mysteries.

Before Rodrigo even breaks into her raw lyrical vulnerability, the sound of a striking shift toward indie alternative rock rings out. The influence can actually be heard in the very first chords. 

“When one first hears Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘The Cure,’ … the listener might at first mistake the track for the Foo Fighters’ ‘Everlong,’” AudioPhix writes. “The tempo and sonics are quite similar. Zaire Wade, the eldest son of NBA Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade, was arrested in Burbank, California, on suspicion of felony domestic violence, according to police and multiple reports.

Burbank police were called to a home around 5:30 a.m. Sunday after a report of a woman screaming. Officers said they found Wade and a woman who had lacerations on her face and body. He was booked on three charges: felony domestic violence, criminal threats and false imprisonment. A handgun was recovered from the home, and an emergency protective order was issued.

Wade was released later that day after posting $50,000 bond, per reports. The woman was not taken to a hospital. The case has been forwarded to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office, which will decide whether to file formal charges. Wade has not been charged with a crime, and the allegations have not been proven in court.

Authorities have not publicly identified the woman or described her relationship to Zaire Wade. It was not immediately clear whether he had retained an attorney or when he might appear in court.

The Wade Family

Zaire is the oldest of Dwyane Wade's children. The retired Miami Heat star and his wife, actress Gabrielle Union, have spoken publicly about supporting their family through the spotlight. Zaire played basketball at Sierra Canyon School and has since spent time in the G League and with teams overseas.

Neither Zaire nor Dwyane Wade had publicly addressed the arrest as of publication.

While the Rolling Stones have a long history of hits making it to the charts, one track never did and still managed to become a fan-favorite classic. "Moonlight Mile" was released in 1971 and was considered one of their underappreciated ballads that still holds up decades later.

Many may remember the band's album Sticky Fingers for their hit chart-topping track "Brown Sugar." While the band continued their history as rock n' roll legends, "Moonlight Mile" was a deviation from their usual sound with a prominent acoustic guitar and a more heartfelt story behind its lyrics.

The track was written by Mick Jagger while the Rolling Stones were on their 1970 European tour, with many of the band members feeling the strain of traveling and performing. So much so that Keith Richards was often absent from recording sessions while producing their next album. As a result, "Moonlight Mile" has the members playing other instruments to make up for it. Jagger remembers having fiddled around with the acoustic guitar riff and having a songbook of ideas, but he never thought the track would be recorded.

"I also came up with an Oriental-Indian riff on my acoustic guitar. At some point during the tour I played it for Mick Taylor, because I thought he would like it. At that point, I really hadn't intended on recording the song. Sometimes you don't want to record what you're writing. You think, 'This isn't worth recording, this is just my doodling,'" he said, according to SongFacts.

The European tour proved to be a rough time for the band, with Jagger reportedly being affected by fatigue and a feeling of loneliness. "Moonlight Mile" lyrics focus on the emotional alienation that takes place while on the road. Many critics called it a "rare example" of the music icon letting go of his rocker image to showcase the reality of life in the spotlight. The track was later misinterpreted by some as a "cocaine song" due to its lyrics in the first stanza.

"The feeling I had at that moment was how difficult it was to be touring and how I wasn’t looking forward to going out and doing it again. It’s a very lonely thing, and my lyrics reflected that," explained Jagger, according to The Wall Street Journal.

"Moonlight Mile" was recorded during an all-nighter between Jagger and Mick Taylor, with them having reworked an old guitar piece into the track. The song never charted on the Billboard charts as it was never released as a single, with Sticky Fingers spending four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Nearly every pop song in the 2000s was written or offered to Britney Spears, and this one was no different.

Tricky Stewart, the track’s producer, revealed back in 2008 that the song 'Umbrella' was originally composed with Britney Spears in mind. The pop icon declined the song made famous by Rihanna as she already had tracks lined up for her album, Blackout.

“Her current state was a little bizarre, you know?” the co-writer, Trick Stewart, told MTV News at the time. “It wasn’t meant to be.” 

Then, the track was sent to Mary J. Blige and LA Reid, CEO of Island Def Jam, Rihanna’s label. But Blige's schedule was too busy with the Grammys; she never fully got the chance to listen to the track. Blige's team bid on the song, but they couldn’t finalize the deal without her permission, so it never worked out.

In 2020, Blige addressed the song on an episode of WWHL. Per Elle, when Andy Cohen asked the singer why she turned down 'Umbrella', she had an in-depth answer.

"It was during Grammy time for me, it was a big Grammy time. I was nominated for eight Grammys and I was trying to get myself together for that. And during that time, that’s when ‘Umbrella’ came to me and I couldn’t do anything with it because I was so busy with my own life and I was like, you know what? It doesn't even sound like me anyway," she said.

In hindsight, Blige isn't angry or bitter about turning the song down; in fact, she thinks she made a good call. "Everything about that song was so tailor-made for Rihanna and nothing about that song was Mary J. Blige," she added.

Ultimately, Island Def Jam bought the song for Rihanna, believing it could boost her career. Released in March 2007, it topped the charts in 19 countries, and was one of the highest digital debuts in the United States at the time.

'Umbrella' was written by Terius “The-Dream” Nash and Christopher “Tricky” Stewart.  In 2004, the pair teamed up for the hit Britney Spears and Madonna duet 'Me Against the Music.' In 2007, they paired up once more to make 'Umbrella', which continues to be one of the most recognisable pop songs of the 21st century.

“At first I was thinking about God,” Nash told Blender back in 2007. “Like, God would say, ‘I’ve got you under my umbrella. I’ll protect you.’"

When it comes to showcasing a love for the country music genre and everything that comes with it, no one does that better than Barbara Mandrell.

In fact, long before Lainey Wilson was belting out her uptempo “Country’s Cool Again” single, Mandrell was reflecting on her childhood Texas roots with a nostalgic walk down memory lane in the western-influenced classic, “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool.”

Written by Kye Fleming and Dennis Morgan and produced by Tom Collins, the track finds Mandrell looking back at her youth and recalling the clothes she wore as a kid and the music she listened to. From flannel shirts and Levi’s to singing along to the Grand Ole Opry stars and George Jones, Mandrell remembers embracing the country way of life before others jumped on board. 

Throughout the song, Mandrell showcases her authentic pride and unwavering support for the genre that rose in popularity around the time of the song’s release, thanks in part to the success of the film Urban Cowboy.  

The meaning behind the song was drawn from real-life experiences during Mandrell’s childhood as she was “teased” for having been a fan of country music. 

“(Kye) and Dennis wrote it after a visit we had had about my early years as a little grade schooler in California,” Mandrell told CMT, according to American Songwriter. “I was doing live television on a Saturday night and going back to school on Monday morning and being teased about … that hillbilly music. Just things of that nature, little stories.”

Sonically, “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool” features a toe-tapping beat with harmonica and pedal/steel as Mandrell showcases her smooth, velvety vocals over the laid-back country melody. At one point, listeners can hear the uncredited guest vocals of Jones singing the catchy hook of the song before an eruption of cheers can be heard at the end of the original recording of the track, which was intentionally made to sound like a live performance. 

Of note, an actual live version of the track exists and was recorded at the Roy Acuff Theater of Opryland in Nashville, Tenn.

For Mandrell, “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool” brought her superstardom to new heights. The song played a role in helping her earn the title of CMA Entertainer of the Year in 1981. Today, the song still resonates with listeners as it made the coveted fan-voted list of the Grand Ole Opry’s ‘100 Greatest Country Songs of All Time’ in 2025. 

Released on April 16, 1981, as the lead single on Barbara Mandrell Live, “I Was Country When Country Wasn’t Cool” soared to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in the summer of that same year. Aside from the tune becoming Mandrell’s signature hit, the singer is known for songs like “Sleeping Single in a Double Bed,” “(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don’t Want to be Right,” and others.

Known for her New York accent and witty humor, Joan Rivers is remembered as a legendary comedian.

Her daughter, Melissa Rivers, took to Instagram on June 25 to clear a long-standing question about her mother.

“A lot of people ask me where the name Rivers comes from. And I'm going to tell you the true and official story,” Melissa said.

She was Joan and film producer Edgar Rosenberg's only child. Her parents were married from 1965 to 1987. 

Born Joan Alexandra Molinsky, Melissa admitted that “We're not really sure,” why Joan chose Rivers. Adding, her mother once told her, “It was the last name of one of her managers, or that one of her managers suggested it. And it just sounded good and stuck. So, there's the big story.”

Joan told a similar narrative to the Television Academy in 2007.

“I changed it to Joan Rivers because I wanted to be an actress,” she said.

While her friends would spend “hours” coming up with new names. They would say, “Should I be Lily? Louise? Or shall I be Rose?” 

Picking out a new name was a bit easier for the late icon.

“I thought, ‘Just get me some work, I'll change my name,'” the comedian shared. “The first agent that sent me out was a man named Larry Rivers, and I said, ‘Okay, I'm Joan Rivers.' ”

It didn’t quite pan out as she hoped. She explained her choice, “got him so scared he never sent me out again.”

Joan died in 2014 at the age of 81. Although known for her comedy, she was a writer, actor, host, director, and stand-up comedian. She got her start on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and became a regular guest host in the 1980s.

Joan earned an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, and a Tony Award nomination through her renowned career.

British indie-rock singer beabadoobee announced a lot of exciting news on Wednesday.

The "Ever Seen" singer revealed that she will be going on her first stadium tour this fall around the United States, Canada and Europe, performing at multiple iconic venues, including Madison Square Garden in New York City, Kia Forum in Los Angeles, the O2 in London and more. beabadoobee, born Beatrice Kristi Laus, will kick off The Powerlines Tour in Indianapolis this August, before officially hitting the stadiums on Oct 1.

Supporting acts include WISP in the US and Canada shows, while Violet Grohl, the daughter of Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl, will be opening the UK and European shows in November and December.

"i didn’t think i’d ever play venues like this in my life 🥲," beabadoobee wrote in her caption. "it’s going to be epic i can’t wait to see you all 🫶."

The Powerlines Tour will be supporting her fourth studio album, Pylon, which she also announced on Wednesday, and will be released on Sept. 18. The lead single, "Sun Has Set," is out now on all streaming platforms.

Pylon comes two years after This Is How Tomorrow Moves, which became her first album that peaked the UK Albums Chart. The record includes the songs "Take a Bite" and "Real Man," the latter of which went viral on TikTok.

"made and written in between tours and on tour, i missed home, i missed how people were and im still learning to accept the confusion within the uncertainty of being away," the 26-year-old singer wrote on Instagram. "I hope you guys listen, enjoy, cry, scream and find your own meaning in Pylon when it's out :) i love u i love the people i made this with. i love this album."

beabadoobee started her career in 2017 when she released her debut single "Coffee," which got the attention of independent record label Dirty Hit Records. After putting out multiple EPs, she released her debut album, Fake It Flowers, in 2020. Then her follow-up record, Beatopia, put out two years later, spawned her breakout hit, "the perfect pair." In addition, beabadoobee was the supporting act for many bands and artists, including The 1975, Clairo, Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift, from their tours that took place from 2019 to 2023.

After spending most of 2025 on the road to support her third album, This Is How Tomorrow Moves, beabadoobee is finally releasing new music for her fans. Despite her successful career, the Filipina-British artist spoke with Dazed earlier this year and told the publication that Pylon is "still pretty sad."

"It’s about accepting the sad times and understanding that you have to feel every single [explicit] feeling," beabadoobee said. "Happiness, sadness, anger – all of it."
