More than three decades after Nirvana released their 1991 album Nevermind, its lasting legacy continues to leave an indelible mark on music history.

Propelled by the popularity and massive success of their standout track “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” the record was named by Consequence as the greatest sophomore album of all time.

Based on the 2026 ranking released by the outlet, the list features the top 100 sophomore albums that made a huge presence in the music industry.

Described by Consequence as an “album of contradictions,” the record highlights a powerful and rebellious vibe while at the same time showcasing emotional depth and vulnerability.

Featuring Kurt Cobain, Krist Novoselic and Dave Grohl, Nirvana followed its 1989 debut album, Bleach, with Nevermind.

Through Nevermind, Nirvana helped bring Seattle’s grunge sound to a global audience, releasing standout tracks such as “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Come as You Are,” “Lithium” and “In Bloom” among others.

In 1992, Nirvana’s album dethroned Michael Jackson on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, replacing the King of Pop’s blockbuster album Dangerous at No. 1 with their sophomore album.

Moreover, the album sold over 30 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling albums of all time.

During the album’s 20th anniversary celebrations, bassist and co-founder Krist Novoselic admitted that they “had no idea what Nevermind was going to achieve.”

As for the inspiration behind the music, Novoselic spoke about the diversity of their songs and how they were inspired by fellow musicians.

“We had a pretty broad knowledge of music,” he told CBC Radio’s cultural affairs show Q. “We weren’t dogmatic punk rockers, even though we came out of the American hardcore scene. We loved the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Black Flag, Flipper, punk rock bands. It all came together and that’s what we have. The document of that is Nevermind.”

Decades after the band released the album, Nevermind continues to make Billboard history, spending its 700th non-consecutive week on the Billboard 200 in 2024 and becoming the ninth album to reach the milestone.

In the 2000 movie Remember the Titans, Hayden Panettiere portrayed Coach Bill Yoast’s football-obsessed preteen daughter, Sheryl.

Just 10 years old at the time, Panettiere was perfectly cast as the outspoken tomboy, and the movie launched her career. Sadly, Panettiere died on August 16, 2026, at the age of 36 due to a “reported cardiac arrest.”

Now, fans are looking back at Remember the Titans and drawing parallels between Panettiere’s death and the death of her on-screen character in real life.

This is because Yoast also died suddenly in 1996 from an undetected heart condition at 34 years old — just a couple of years younger than Panettiere.

While promoting the film, Panettiere spoke about Yoast’s death, displaying her maturity at such a young age.

“The character that I play, Sheryl, she died at 35 of heart failure, and when we heard that, we were just shocked, me and my mom,” Panettiere said in an interview.

Yoast, who was buried in Virginia, was survived by her three sisters, Bonnie, Angela, and Deidre. She was also married at the time of her death.

Fans were shocked by the similarities in their deaths. “Sheryl Yoast died in 1996, making them exactly 20 years apart,” one person commented on TikTok. Another added, “It’s like god was showing her future.”

Panettiere was found unresponsive in an apartment in South Carolina on Sunday, August 16, and her autopsy was completed the following day. However, her cause of death remains under investigation amid reports of an overdose and Narcan being found on the scene.

“At autopsy, no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death,” coroner Mike Ellis said in a statement. “The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies. This investigation remains active and ongoing. No further details are available for release at this time.”

Whoever eventually replaces Jeff Probst on Survivor shouldn’t expect to follow in his footsteps too closely.

The longtime host and executive producer, 64, opened up about the show’s eventual future without him during a new interview with The Wall Street Journal shared on Tuesday, August 18. While Probst made it clear retirement isn’t currently on his mind, he does have one hope for whoever eventually takes over: Don’t try to be the next Jeff Probst.

“This is not on my agenda, but when the time comes to hand over the stewardship of the show, I will be very excited to do it,” he told the outlet.

Rather than finding someone who can recreate what he has brought to the competition since its 2000 debut, Probst wants his successor to put their own stamp on it. “My hope would be that the next steward of Survivor is somebody completely different from me because then, you get a different point of view that’s going to guide this ship,” he explained.

For anyone worried that handoff could be coming soon, Probst also offered some reassurance, saying, “I am as engaged with Survivor, as you and I are speaking today, as I ever have been.”

Fans had their own opinions in the comments of an Instagram post sharing Probst’s comments.

“Why is no one saying Devens?!?! He’s still young, he’s a fan favorite AND he has experience in the field,” one fan wrote.

“Not a single person the show will have to just end,” another quipped.

A third commented, “If it’s going to be a Rob from this show, it has to be Rob C! He knows this game inside and out, and would do the role justice.”

“Listen, Jonathan Penner would be awsoume !” declared a fourth.

Probst has previously admitted the list of people he believes could take over is pretty short. When The Wrap asked him in June which former Survivor contestants might be capable of hosting, Probst didn’t name a specific successor. Instead, he explained that whoever gets the job would need to bring much more than on-camera charisma. “It’s a very, very, very small list,” he said.

According to Probst, the key is finding “a producer who can host,” rather than simply hiring a television personality. “I was never just a host,” he explained.

It makes sense considering Probst’s own trajectory. After hosting Survivor from its first season in 2000, he became a producer in 2003 and eventually took on executive producer and showrunner duties in 2010.

With Season 51 premiering in September, however, Probst isn’t ready to pass that torch just yet.

The Zombies were easily one of the most influential bands of the 1960s, and their debut hit, 1964’s “She’s Not There,” is still one of the decade’s defining songs. But by the time the group was recording their second album, the critically acclaimed Odessey and Oracle, they were already thinking about breaking up.

Recorded at Abbey Road studios in 1967, directly after the recording of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, Odessey and Oracle pretty much flopped when it was released in the U.K. in 1968. Consequently, by the time the album came out in the U.S. a year later, the Zombies had already disbanded (which was a shame, because “Time of the Season” ended up being a huge success).

It was actually another song on Odessey and Oracle that the band expected to be a big hit: “Care of Cell 44,” a love letter from the narrator to his girlfriend in prison.

“It just appealed to me. That twist on a common scenario, I just can’t wait for you to come home to me again,” songwriter Rod Argent told Mojo magazine in 2008.

Argent also took advantage of a groundbreaking instrument left behind in the studio by one of the Beatles.

“John Lennon had left his Mellotron in the studio and I used it,” Argent told Sound on Sound.

“I thought it was great,” he continued. “The thing is, I initially thought, Well what a great way of being able to put an orchestra onto something. But of course it’s very different to that and much more in a way because its own signature sound made it much less middle-of-the-road. The quality of it just being sampled on tape, the strange sort of overtones that gave to the sound, were a huge bonus really. They made it sound terrific.”

It came as an unpleasant surprise when “Care of Cell 44” didn’t make the charts, as singer Colin Blunstone explained in an interview with Songfacts.

“It’s a wonderfully crafted song. I think it’s got an incredible lyric, wonderful chord sequences and a great melody — it’s just got everything.”

Unfortunately, listeners didn’t seem to agree with Blunstone.

“We tried to promote ‘Care of Cell 44,’ but there was no positive reaction,” bassist Chris White recalled, adding, “It was downhill from then on.”

Even if “Care of Cell 44” was a commercial flop at the time, in the years since its release, it’s gained appreciation from fans and critics alike. Pitchfork ranked the track at #98 on a list of “200 Greatest Songs of the ’60s,” with John Motley calling it “the sunniest song ever written about the impending release of a prison inmate.”

“At the end of the first ineffably sing-song verse, Colin Blunstone tells his sweetie, ‘You can tell me about your prison stay’ — and sounds positively tickled,” Motley continued. “To be fair, describing the song’s lush arrangement and ecstatic melodies as ‘sunny’ is a vast understatement. Every time Blunstone belts out, ‘Feels! So! Good! You’re coming home soon!’ after the lull of a Beach Boys–style multi-part harmony, it sounds like his heart’s burst with joy.”

While the Zombies likely would have preferred for “Care of Cell 44” to have been a chart-topper back in the ’60s, at least the song is finally getting its due.

America’s Got Talent Live Shows began tonight with judges Simon Cowell, Mel B, Howie Mandel and Sofia Vergara turning over the voting results to America with one exception. Each week one of the four judges will be given the chance to select one act to go straight through to the finals by pushing the Live Golden Buzzer, while America’s vote will determine the three acts that go into the semifinals.

He chose Hundred Fingers, a magic act from Seoul, South Korea, led by Yu Hojin, a magician who appeared on Season 17 of America’s Got Talent, finishing in the Bottom 6 of the Top 11. Yu returned for Season 21 with an all-new act because he felt that he had more to offer, especially wanting to prove to Simon that he could do something bigger.

“I wanted to create a magic super group, something that had never been seen before,” Yu said. “And that’s exactly what I created.”

Hundred Fingers succeeded in winning Howie’s Golden Buzzer during this season’s auditions, but the job is not yet done. Yu wants to win the whole thing.

“Now we have huge pressure to do better,” Yu said. “We practice and we rehearse many hours – 15 hours six days a week. We are pushing ourselves to the limit. I want redemption. That’s why we are here.”

And the hard work paid off with Howie given a second Golden Buzzer to Hundred Fingers, this time one that takes them all the way to the finale.

“That’s the best thing I’ve seen. One word, magic,” Howie said. Then he added, “I wanted to press the Golden Buzzer. I wanted to press everything. That was a winning performance right there. That could have been a final performance. That was a million-dollar performance.”

A song recorded by a 20-year-old singer from Kentucky has earned a place among Billboard‘s 100 Best Country Songs of All Time.

The song is “Why Not Me” by The Judds, the country duo made up of Wynonna Judd and her mother, Naomi Judd. Billboard ranked the 1984 hit at No. 43 on its staff-picked list of the greatest country songs.

When “Why Not Me” was released in September 1984, Wynonna Judd was 20 years old.

The song became an important early hit for The Judds. In December 1984, it became the duo’s second consecutive No. 1 single on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. “Why Not Me” also received major awards, winning Song of the Year at the 1985 ACM Awards, Single of the Year at the 1985 CMA Awards and a Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal in 1986.

“Why Not Me” was written by Harlan Howard, Sonny Throckmorton and Brent Maher. Maher also produced The Judds’ album of the same name.

The song was released in September 1984 as the title track and lead single from the duo’s first full-length studio album. The album, Why Not Me, was later released on Oct. 15, 1984.

In her 1993 autobiography, Naomi Judd said the song had “one of the strongest melodic hooks I’d ever heard.”

Billboard highlighted the song’s musical details. Bandleader and guitarist Don Potter created the guitar licks that Naomi Judd described as “a little slice of heaven.” The publication pointed to the song’s story of wanting love, along with the vocal work and gentle harmonies between Wynonna and Naomi.

The sound of those harmonies helped The Judds stand out during the 1980s. Wynonna sang lead, while Naomi provided harmony vocals.

The title track became part of a larger run of success for the duo. The Why Not Me album also produced the No. 1 hits “Girls Night Out” and “Love Is Alive.” The album reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart and later received a 2× Platinum certification in the United States.

The Judds had already reached No. 1 with “Mama He’s Crazy” before “Why Not Me” arrived. The new single became their second consecutive chart-topper and helped begin an even bigger stretch of success.

Wynonna and Naomi Judd both had Kentucky roots. Naomi was born in Ashland, Kentucky, while Wynonna was born in Kentucky on May 30, 1964.

The family moved to Los Angeles in 1968 but returned to Kentucky in 1976, where Naomi continued raising Wynonna and her younger daughter, Ashley. It was during those years that Wynonna and Naomi developed their connection through music and harmony singing.

Naomi later recalled how listening to bluegrass singers helped her realize what she and Wynonna could do together. 

“As these women harmonized together, it came to me: Wynonna and I couldn’t talk to each other, but, low and behold, we could sing together,” she said, per PBS.

The mother and daughter eventually moved to Nashville to pursue a record deal. Their efforts paid off in 1983 when RCA Records signed them after an audition.

The Judds released six studio albums between 1984 and 1990 and scored more than 20 singles on Billboard’s country charts, including 14 No. 1 hits. The duo also won five Grammy Awards and nine CMA Awards.

Their career as a full-time duo ended in 1991 after Naomi was diagnosed with Hepatitis C and stopped touring. Wynonna then began a successful solo career and later reunited with her mother for several performances.

Naomi Judd died in 2022, one day before The Judds were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Michael Jackson’s song, “Rock with You,” reached an exciting milestone this past week. The 1979 classic, the second track of the late singer’s fifth studio album, Off the Wall, hit one billion streams on Spotify and was added to the streamer’s “BILLIONS CLUB” playlist on Tuesday. This is his fifth song to reach over one billion listens.

Seven other songs, including Olivia Dean’s “So Easy (To Fall In Love)” and “Crawling” by Linkin Park, were also added to the playlist on Tuesday alongside “Rock with You.”

Jackson was just 20 years old when he recorded “Rock with You” and its accompanying album. The song was written by Rod Temperton, who penned multiple of Jackson’s best hits, including “Thriller” and “The Lady in My Life.” The track was produced by Quincy Jones.

“Rock with You” was originally supposed to go to Karen Carpenter, who at the time was working on her first solo album, but she declined it. Carpenter, one half of the soft-rock duo the Carpenters she formed with her brother Richard, loved working with Temperton. He originally offered Carpenter “Rock with You” and “Off the Wall” and showed rough demos to her, but she declined them because “they were too funky for her taste.”

The song ended up being a huge success, reaching the top spot on multiple US pop and R&B charts, and spending four weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Considered one of the last hits of the disco era, “Rock with You” was the fourth biggest single of 1980 and was added to Rolling Stone‘s list of the “500 Greatest Songs of All Time” in 2021.

Jackson was one of the most influential entertainers in music history, earning the nickname the “King of Pop” for his groundbreaking music, choreography, music videos he called “short films” and performances. Born in 1958, Jackson first found fame as a member of the Jackson 5 before launching his solo career as a teenager. His 1979 album Off the Wall established him as a major solo star, while albums including Thriller, Bad and Dangerous cemented his global legacy. Off the Wall ultimately sold more than 22 million copies worldwide and won Favorite Soul/R&B Album twice at the American Music Awards in 1980 and 1981.

Interest in Jackson’s music received another major boost following the release of the biopic Michael in April, which stars his nephew Jaafar Jackson. The film’s opening weekend prompted a 95% increase in US streams of Jackson’s solo catalog compared with the previous weekend, according to Luminate data reported by The Associated Press. His catalog earned 31.7 million streams on April 24 and 25, compared with 16.3 million the weekend before. The resurgence continued beyond opening weekend and throughout the spring, with Jackson’s catalog reaching 137.5 million on-demand streams in the United States between April 24 and 30 — up 146% from the previous week.

Four months after the release of Michael and 17 years after Jackson’s death, the “Smooth Criminal” singer boasts over 96 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Nearly five decades after its release, “Rock With You” continues to prove why Jackson’s music has remained such an enduring part of pop culture. From its original success on the charts to his resurgence on streaming platforms today, the song has found ways to reach listeners across generations. Jackson’s music has also experienced renewed interest following the release of his recent biopic, introducing longtime hits to audiences who may not have grown up with them.

Aug. 18 will now forever harbor special meaning for NASCAR fans. Today marks the first Kyle Busch Day, a tribute to the two-time Cup Series champion who died unexpectedly last May.

At just 41, Busch’s death sent shockwaves through the racing world. After his sudden passing, which followed severe bacterial pneumonia that rapidly progressed into sepsis, the sport has continued to find ways to honor one of its most memorable drivers.

So, today, NASCAR and the broader motorsports community are celebrating the generational talent and future Hall of Famer with 63 Cup wins on what is now Kyle Busch Day.

According to Motor Biscuit, via Yahoo Sports, the 8/18 date nods to the two numbers Busch made famous during his Cup Series career: No. 8 with Richard Childress Racing and No. 18 with Joe Gibbs Racing. His No. 18 was also famously associated with longtime sponsor M&M’s.

To further celebrate the day, NASCAR is also airing a marathon of Busch’s greatest moments on its streaming channel.

Nearly three months after Busch’s death, his family is also taking a moment to both celebrate the newly anointed day and remember their loved one.

Taking to Instagram, Busch’s wife, Samantha Busch, posted a carousel of images, with each snap featuring one thing “that makes Kyle, Kyle.” The carousel includes wedding pics, candid selfies, racing shots, and more, and ends with three words: “One of one.”

“Today, on 8/18, we celebrate Kyle Busch Day ❤️,” she wrote in the caption. “The world knew Rowdy, the champion, the competitor, the bow, and that unmistakable personality. But I was lucky enough to know every side of Kyle, especially the ones the world didn’t always get to see.”

She continued, “How do you take almost 20 years of loving someone and somehow capture what made them them in eight slides? You can’t. There are a million little things that made Kyle who he was, and those little things are what I find myself missing the most. So today, I hope we celebrate all of Kyle. The things that made the world love him and the things that made the kids and I so incredibly lucky to call him ours.”

She concluded with, “There will never be another Rowdy, but more than anything, there will never be another Kyle. My best friend, my other half, the daddy to our babies and the person I thought I would grow old beside. I love you and miss every single piece of you. ❤️ #KyleBuschDay #ForeverRowdy”

Busch’s 11-year-old son, Brexton Busch, also shared a tribute on Instagram. In his carousel, he leaned into the No. 18 and what the numeral has meant to him his entire life. Across several images, Brexton explained how the simple 1-8 holds deep significance for him.

“18. My favorite number not only because it’s my birthday, but also because I saw my dad kick everyone’s butt in it almost every week growing up,” he wrote in the caption. “I wanted to be just like him, and I chose to race it when I started racing. While I wanted to be like him, he wanted me to be better than him. He taught me everything he knows, worked on my cars, spotted me, and even raced against me 8 times while he drove the 8. He beat me more than I beat him, but he knew the score would be in my favor sooner rather than later. I know he is proud of me. 8.18 is a reflection of him and what he instilled in me. Every race is for him.”

Brexton began racing competitively in 2020 at age 5 in the Beginner Box Stock division at Millbridge and Mountain Creek Speedways. Just a month into his racing career, he nabbed his first official victory at Mountain Creek Speedway.

After his father’s death, the No. 8 took on even more meaning for the Busch family. Richard Childress Racing temporarily retired the number, saying that it would be reserved for Brexton when he’s ready to race in NASCAR, transforming the infinity-shaped number into a potential forever link between father and son.

All parents (and people in general) get overwhelmed and emotionally dysregulated. They raise their voice sometimes. They say something they wish they hadn’t. It’s natural, understandable and common. 

What matters, and what truly affects the relationship and your child’s sense of self and perception of the world, is how you act after that “rupture.” 

There’s one golden response child psychologists recommend you implement afterward, and it’s not just a general apology. It helps children feel emotionally safe, both in the moment and in the future. It helps them realize that relationships will have tough moments, but that doesn’t mean the relationship is over or that either person is unlovable. 

Ahead, child psychologists explain the one thing parents should do after losing their temper (and how to do it), how skipping it can hurt your child’s inner voice, some empathy and a few tips that can prevent yelling in the first place.

The Single Most Important Parenting Strategy: What Is ‘Repair’?

The most important strategy after a rupture is repair. 

“Repair is the opposite of pretending a mistake didn’t happen or promising it won’t happen again,” says Dr. Caroline Danda, PhD, a licensed psychologist with over two decades of clinical experience with children, teens and families. “It’s what you do when you identify there’s a problem, see what’s gone wrong and go through the process of making it right.”

It’s a healing, relational method that teaches children a life lesson, too. 

“Repair tells a child’s nervous system, ‘Our relationship is safe, even when we have hard moments,’” says Dr. Allison Brazendale, PsyD, a licensed clinical psychologist for children and families and the creator of the FLEXED Method, which informs her insights here. “It’s an opportunity to reconnect, strengthen trust and show a child that mistakes do and are not the be-all-end-all.”

Plus, for what it’s worth, they say that choosing to repair after yelling can help the relationship grow more than if there had been no rupture in the first place.

Why Letting a ‘Rupture’ Fester Damages a Child’s Inner Voice

A rupture may seem like a one-time argument, but for a kid, it can cause more intense and long-lasting problems. The psychological effects of yelling at kids are real. When kids hear an angry tone, see an upset facial expression or feel abandoned, they begin to wonder if they’re still safe. Basically, your emotional dysregulation dysregulates their emotions.

“Those subtle shifts can signal danger to their nervous system,” Dr. Brazendale explains. “As their brain moves into protection mode, anxiety rises, cognitive flexibility decreases and it becomes much harder for them to think clearly, solve problems or regulate their emotions.”

Dr. Danda agrees.

“No one is choosing to react badly,” she clarifies. “The brain has simply shifted into survival mode.”

Children begin to make inaccurate and harmful meaning out of the rupture, too. For example, when a parent feels overwhelmed and “acts out,” they may think “I’m too much,” “I’m bad” or “People leave when I have big feelings.” Then, they may feel shame, or like they’re misunderstood and unloved, Dr. Danda adds. They wonder if love is conditional. 

That’s where repair comes in. It interrupts and changes that narrative. 

“Instead of believing their emotions are too much for others, they learn that relationships are strong enough to hold big feelings,” Dr. Brazendale tells Parade. “Repair restores relational safety.”

Repair does the same thing for a child’s self-image.

“A child learns that having big emotions, or reacting badly in the moment, doesn’t make them a bad person,” Dr. Danda adds. 

If you’ve ever walked away without repairing, try not to worry too much, she continues. A missed repair doesn’t define your relationship with your child—it’s the pattern that matters

A 3-Step Guide to a Perfect ‘Repair’ (No ‘Buts’ Allowed)

A solid repair takes three steps, psychologists say.

1. Regulate yourself 

First, utilize coping skills to regulate your emotions so you can regulate your child’s.

“Take a minute to pause, catch your breath and settle before you try to talk to your child again,” Dr. Danda says. “Bonus: When you take a minute to pause, it also gives your child time to settle.”

Then, be mindful of what you’re going to say and how.

“Remind yourself to be flexible and switch your lens from viewing the behavior as ‘defiance’ and instead to ‘anxiety,’” Dr. Brazendale suggests. “Your tone, posture, pacing and facial expression communicate safety long before your words do.”

2. Take responsibility 

Next, acknowledge—to yourself and your child—what you did. Maybe you raised your voice, got frustrated, made a negative comment or even scared them a bit. 

“Avoid blaming your child or explaining away your behavior,” Dr. Brazendale says. “Taking responsibility models accountability while showing your child that mistakes can be acknowledged without shame.”

Dr. Danda adds an important reminder for the future: “You can label a behavior, but not the child.”

3. Restore connection

Last but not least, reconnect. Offer warmth, validation, presence and praise. Offer a hug, return to what you were doing together or just sit with them.

“You might say, ‘I’m sorry I yelled. I was overwhelmed, and that wasn’t how I wanted to handle it. We both have big feelings sometimes, and I appreciate you being flexible and hearing me out,’” Dr. Brazendale suggests.

If you do go back to the problem, do so mindfully.

“Sometimes it means going back to the original issue and problem-solving it together, more calmly this time,” Dr. Danda says. “Avoid spending too much time rehashing the rupture.”

‘Good Parents Have Hard Moments’: How To Break the Cycle of Parental Guilt

The main thing Dr. Brazendale hopes parents remember is this: “You do not have to be a perfect parent to raise a secure child.” 

You’re going to lose your patience and “mess up,” she says. You’re going to have days when you’re exhausted, overwhelmed and reactive. You’re human.

“Children are not looking for perfection,” she continues. “They need adults who are willing to come back after hard moments and show them that relationships are strong enough to recover.”

Both child psychologists “get it” and even have personal experience.

“Despite everything I know about parenting and child psychology as a child psychologist who does this day in and day out, there are plenty of times when I’ve lost it and didn’t handle things the right way,” Dr. Danda admits. “I didn’t always repair it the right way, either.”

She encourages you to settle down and figure out how to move through it rather than beating yourself up or avoiding the issue. 

Practical Steps To Stop the Yell Before It Starts

After a repair, you may wonder how to stop yourself from yelling in the future (or at least reduce its frequency). Child psychologists share tips on how to do so.

• Pause before responding. Take a breath, then respond mindfully and warmly.
• Regulate yourself by relaxing your body, taking a slow breath or splashing cold water on your face. Moving your body rhythmically also helps, whether it’s walking, washing dishes, pulling weeds or tensing and releasing your muscles.
• Tell your child when you need a minute to regulate so they don’t feel abandoned when you walk away.
• Notice your thoughts without judging or ruminating on them. Consider what you can control and what’s a fact versus a feeling.
• Ground yourself by paying attention to your senses.

By taking these steps and remembering what parenting rupture and repair looks like, you set yourself, your child and your relationship up well. 

“Every time you choose steady leadership over emotional reactivity, you are helping build the emotional flexibility your child will carry into adulthood,” Dr. Brazendale says.

Check your cabinets! A salad dressing has been recalled due to possible contamination with bacteria.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on August 14 that Salata Dressings’ Jalapeno Avocado Dressing is being recalled because of a risk of contamination with Salmonella.

Salmonella is a group of bacteria that causes illness after ingesting contaminated water or food. Common symptoms include fever, diarrhea (sometimes bloody), nausea, vomiting, headache, chills, and abdominal pain, according to the Mayo Clinic.

Infected people usually show signs of the illness within 8 to 72 hours after exposure. In rare circumstances, Salmonella can enter the bloodstream and result in severe illnesses, including arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis.

The Texas-based company sold the product at HEB stores across the state. The dressing was packaged in a 12 oz plastic bottle with a black cap. The recalled item was distributed between July 13 and August 5.

The possibly contaminated product has a Best By date of 11/05/2026, 11/13/2026, 11/18/2026, or 11/25/2026 located at the top of the label.

No illnesses have been reported from this recall.

Salata Dressings announced the recall on August 11 after the company’s supplier informed them that the diced jalapeños used in the dressing may have been contaminated with Salmonella.

“Upon receiving this notice, we immediately identified all affected finished product, ceased further distribution, quarantined the product, destroyed the product and notified HEB immediately, via phone call and then a follow up newsletter summary,” the company stated in the FDA announcement.

Consumers who have purchased Jalapeno Avocado Dressing from HEB are asked to return the product to the place of purchase for a full refund.

When ZZ Top released “La Grange” in 1973, the song not only changed the trajectory of the trio’s career, it helped establish the band’s sound and showcased drummer Frank Beard’s signature backbeat, an essential part of the band’s bluesy, muscular sound, including on “La Grange.” The song would go on to become ZZ Top’s first big hit, but its inspiration is classic ZZ Top.

“La Grange” was released as a single from Tres Hombres and reached No. 41 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1974, ZZ Top’s first Top 50 hit and their first single to successfully climb the music charts. The success of the song helped Tres Hombres become the band’s first Top 10 album and helped establish the band nationally.

A decade later, MTV would transform ZZ Top into international superstars with songs like “Gimme All Your Lovin’,” “Sharp Dressed Man” and “Legs,” but “La Grange” was their first breakout hit and established ZZ Top’s blues-rock identity.

The trio of Frank Beard, Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill remained together for over 50 years, one of rock music’s most enduring lineups.
