Saturday Night Live alum Ego Nwodim is firing back at Shane Gillis after the comedian performed a monologue on the sketch comedy series that many fans found sexist and offensive.

During the Saturday, Oct. 10, episode of the late night show, the comedian gave a controversial monologue where he called women who wear athletic clothes to the gym “whores.”

“Also, I haven’t been to the gym in so long. I didn’t know women just dressed like whores now,” Gillis said.

“Look, I’m sorry, there’s no other way to describe… Have you seen it? I’ve seen it. The shorts. Have you seen the shorts? Those neon…they’re like artificial bait colored. And the wrinkles, the wrinkles go like around the cheeks and all combined at the butthole,” he continued. “And don’t look. You’re not allowed to look. For real, don’t look because they are filming. I’m in the background of like 10 TikToks right now.”

Gillis’s comments have received widespread criticism online, and now Nwodim is seemingly chiming in. On Monday, Oct. 12, Nwodim—who starred on the series as a main cast member from 2020 to 2025—appeared to issue a response via her Instagram Story.

“whore reporting for duty,” Nwodim wrote alongside a photo of her at the gym.

She then seemingly posted another response, sharing a photo of her lunch and writing, “getting my 30 grams of protein in after heauxing.”

After a screenshot of the apparent jab towards Gillis was shared to social media, SNL fans praised the actress and comedian for taking a stand.

“Actress and comedian that is actually funny,” wrote one fan on Reddit.

“The SNL death spiral got so much worse when we lost Ego. A gem and a great comedian,” said another.

“That’s how you make people laugh, Shane,” added a third.

Gillis has yet to address his controversial comments. However, he did apologize after accidentally dropping an uncensored F-bomb live on air during Saturday’s show.

Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum quickly became a fan favorite with his portrayal of the charming but nefarious Lex Luthor. Rosenbaum recently revealed he was concerned that he was going to be fired early on in the hit WB series, which had a 10-season run until 2011.

In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Smallville, Rosenbaum reunited with his former co-stars Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk, and Erica Durance, as well as the show’s co-creators Al Gough and Miles Millar, on an October 2026 episode of his podcast, Inside of You.

According to Rosenbaum, he was “a nervous wreck” while working on the series. In addition, he said he “thought [he] was going to be fired numerous times” while filming the pilot episode of Smallville.

The 54-year-old noted that the show’s first episode has a scene wherein an unconscious Lex nearly drowns in a body of water before being rescued by Clark Kent (Welling). Rosenbaum said the scene called for him to wear weights while fully submerged in a cloudy water tank. The actor recalled that the experience was terrifying and he kept coming up to the surface before finishing the take.

“I was so scared, and I was like, ‘They’re going to fire me,'” said Rosenbaum.

Rosenbaum also said he believed he was going to get fired from playing his famously bald character because of the shape of his head.

“When I shaved my head, I looked in the mirror, and I go, ‘Okay, you’re Lex Luthor.’ Then I realized I had this big bump on the back of my head and I was like, ‘Oh man, they’re going to fire me. I’m not as pretty as these people on this show,'” said Rosenbaum on the podcast episode.

Michael Rosenbaum Opened Up About Leaving ‘Smallville’ After Season 7

Rosenbaum left Smallville following its seventh season. In a 2024 interview on the Sackhoff Show podcast, hosted by actress Katee Sackhoff, Rosenbaum explained that his Smallville “contract was six years,” but he “ended up doing seven.” The actor said he felt the network was “being incredibly unfair” when he was renegotiating his contract.

According to Rosenbaum, the former CEO of Warner Bros. Television Studios, Peter Roth, wasn’t happy about the actor’s Smallville renegotiations.

“Peter supposedly marched into the creators’ room and said, ‘You fire him. Fire him now. Just fire him.’ And they looked at him and go, ‘We can’t. He’s f–king Lex Luthor.’ And God, I wish I knew that then because I would have really negotiated,” said Rosenbaum.

Rosenbaum then said he was on “very good terms” when he exited Smallville after season 7 and was asked to have dinner with Roth. According to Rosenbaum, Roth asked him to film for Smallville for three more years. Rosenbaum said, however, that the new contract offer was the same salary he received during the show’s seventh season.

“That was the last straw for me. That was it. I just said, ‘I don’t want to counter. I don’t care what they offer now. It’s the principle,'” said Rosenbaum during the 2024 interview.

Selma Blair is expected to face state and federal charges following a series of alleged assaults during and after a flight from Los Angeles to New York.

According to TMZ, the actress was arrested on Sunday, Oct. 11, following an incident aboard a Delta Air Lines flight bound for John F. Kennedy International Airport.

While on board the flight, Blair allegedly punched one flight attendant, bit another, and attempted to open the plane’s door while it was in the air.

Blair was reportedly placed in restraints before being taken into custody after the plane landed. While being transported to a hospital by ambulance, Blair repeatedly kicked a police officer in the head, per law enforcement sources who spoke to the outlet.

Upon arriving at the hospital, she allegedly assaulted a nurse, who has pressed charges.

According to People, Blair is facing two counts of second-degree assault in New York related to the alleged incidents involving the police officer and the nurse. She is also expected to face federal charges stemming from the alleged assaults aboard the plane.

A law enforcement source told the publication that the FBI issued Blair a summons for alleged assaults within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States.

Blair was arraigned for the two assault charges on Monday, Oct. 12, in Queens Criminal Court and the judge set her bail at $20K cash, $60K bond or $60K partially secured bond, per TMZ. It’s unclear if Blair entered a plea during her arraignment, and her next court date for those charges is on Jan. 19, 2027.

The actress is expected to face her federal charges in petty violations court in Brooklyn on a later date, according to a source who spoke to People.

In a statement to People, a representative for the actress said, “Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. Upon landing, she received immediate medical attention and is currently in stable condition.”

Delta, for their part, said in a statement to TMZ that the airline has a “zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behavior, as the safety of our customers and crew always comes first.”

Bella Hadid is welcoming a new decade in style.

The supermodel celebrated her 30th birthday on Friday, October 9, and marked the milestone with a series of photos shared on Instagram over the weekend. Among the looks she showed off was a custom red string bikini featuring a personalized touch for the occasion.

An amazing video has emerged that captures Kate Middleton and her 11-year-old daughter Princess Charlotte traveling via the subway during a rare girls’ day out in London.

In the footage the Princess of Wales and Charlotte can be seen sitting side-by-side as they ride on the Elizabeth Line through central London, with a commuter telling Hello! that Charlotte looked “amazed” as she gazed around the train carriage.

The royal mother and daughter were seen exiting hand-in-hand at Tottenham Court Road.

People explains that the trip most likely marked Charlotte’s first experience of the London Underground.

The princess and her brothers Prince George (13) and Prince Louis (7) are usually escorted through London via motorcade, or often take a helicopter to UK locations that are further afield.

A commuter said that Kate and Charlotte’s security detail “didn’t make it obvious they were there” and that their escorts were trying to make the the royal duo’s trip as “normal as possible.”

They added that Kate had a “brief interaction” with the passengers opposite her and Charlotte, and that she looked at her phone for a few minutes.

They said that Kate and Charlotte looked “very relaxed and were chatting together” and “smiling.”

The Elizabeth Line is the London Underground’s newest subway route. It is named for Charlotte’s great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II. The monarch herself opened the line as part of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations in May 2022, four months before her death that September.

Elizabeth II was the first UK monarch to celebrate a platinum jubilee, marking 70 years on the throne.

It is not known where Kate and Charlotte were traveling to, but Tottenham Court Road is in the heart of London’s famous West End district and is close to the Oxford Street shopping district as well.

Back in 2013 Kate, who was pregnant with Prince George at the time, wore one of the London Underground’s iconic ‘Baby on Board’ pins when she visited Baker Street station with the queen.

The pin is worn by pregnant women while traveling via the London Underground that informs other passengers that they may need to give up their seat.

On that occasion Kate revealed to the reporters that she used to travel via the subway “on a regular basis,” adding, “I miss traveling on the Tube.”

Charlotte and her brother Louis are currently students at Lambrook School, which costs $14,000 a year.

Their oldest brother and future king George enrolled at Eton College in September, where he is a boarder. However his family’s home of Forest Lodge on the Windsor estate is only a 15-minute drive away.

Meanwhile King Charles III can be found from time to time at home in Windsor Castle, and it seems likely that George will make a habit of dropping in for tea with his grandfather—much as his father Prince William used to stop by the castle for tea with his grandmother Elizabeth when he himself was at Eton.

“Breaking Bad” star RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. on the hit show, died at the age of 34.

According to TMZ, Mitte died on Monday, Oct. 12, in Texas.

His representatives confirmed news of his death in a statement to the outlet.

“It is with profound sadness we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” his reps said. “RJ Mitte was best known for his role as Walter ‘Flynn’ White Jr. on AMC’s critically acclaimed, award-winning series Breaking Bad. Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion.

“Beyond entertaining friends and family around the world, he served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s. He also served as president of The Mitte Foundation, supporting philanthropic efforts and community initiatives, while using his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation for people with disabilities. At this time, we ask people to respect the privacy of RJ Mitte’s family and close ones.”

In the report from TMZ, they say Mitte died by suicide. The investigation into his death is still ongoing.

His representatives did not disclose a cause of death in their statement.

In 1975, Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams were writing sketches at Francis Coppola’s production company for a bicentennial comedy special when Garry Marshall — Penny’s brother — cast them both in a couple of Happy Days episodes as Laverne DeFazio and Shirley Feeney. The chemistry was right there. Two months later he’d built a show around them. Laverne and Shirley hit ABC on January 27, 1976, in the Tuesday night slot right after Happy Days. The debut pulled the highest Nielsen rating for a new series in over a decade. Williams hadn’t even wanted the role — Marshall had spent weeks talking her into it. By Season 2 it was the No. 2 show in America. By Season 3 it was No. 1.

The physical comedy was extraordinary. What was happening off screen was something else entirely. Both women were intensely competitive, and the writers were constantly trying to balance the material — if Laverne got a standout physical gag, Shirley needed something of equal weight. Williams had very particular ideas about her character. Marshall had hers. Garry Marshall was writing for both of them and somewhere in the middle of both of them. Henry Winkler later said the rumors of a feud were way overblown and that what came out was “the best slapstick comedy since Lucy.” That may be true. It doesn’t mean it was easy.

The show ran for 8 seasons. In Season 6, the whole cast picked up and moved from Milwaukee to Burbank, California. The ratings had started slipping. By Season 8 in 1982, Williams was pregnant. When she came in to sign her contract, the studio had scheduled her to work on her due date. She walked off the set two episodes in. She filed a $20 million breach of contract lawsuit against Paramount, claiming they’d gone back on the terms of her deal. Shirley was written out — she’d gotten married and moved away — and Marshall carried the final season on her own. The show without Shirley wasn’t the show. ABC pulled it the following spring.

After the Show

Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams barely spoke for years. Marshall later wrote in her memoir that she’d run into Williams “once or twice at TV Land specials” but that it was always “more professional than personal.” They eventually worked it out.

Williams said she’d go to Marshall’s house and they’d watch television together in bed. After Laverne and Shirley, Marshall went on to direct Big — the first film directed by a woman to gross over $100 million — and then A League of Their Own. Penny Marshall died in December 2018. Cindy Williams died in January 2023. Both were 75. The show they made together was the No. 1 program in America for 2 of its 8 seasons. Getting there cost them more than it looked.

Mark Hamill is known around the world as Luke Skywalker, but his latest role in a Stephen King adaptation has given fans a very different reason to look twice.

The Star Wars icon, 75, makes a surprise appearance in the new Carrie series, which premiered on Prime Video on Wednesday, Oct. 7. Hamill’s character looks so different from his familiar on-screen persona that viewers may not immediately recognize the actor behind the disguise.

Hamill appears in the sixth episode of the series as a fortune teller who is eventually exposed as a fraud. With a mustache, beard, one partially closed eye and additional makeup effects, the actor undergoes a striking transformation for the unexpected cameo, according to People.

Mark Hamill Wanted His ‘Carrie’ Cameo Kept a Secret

Hamill’s appearance in Carrie was meant to be a surprise. Showrunner Mike Flanagan revealed that the actor was eager to participate but wanted to keep his involvement under wraps.

“He was so excited to just come out for half a day,” Flanagan, 48, told People. “His whole thing was just like, ‘Just don’t tell anyone I’m doing that.’ He just wanted to be part of it.”

Flanagan also praised Hamill’s performance, saying it was fun to watch the actor bring the unusual character to life.

The cameo marks another collaboration between Hamill and Flanagan, who previously worked together on Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher and the King adaptation The Life of Chuck. Flanagan told People that the experience of working with Hamill has made them friends.

“They say never meet your heroes in this business, and I think he’s the exception to that in so many ways,” Flanagan said.

The New ‘Carrie’ Reimagines Stephen King’s Classic Horror Story

The new Carrie series offers a fresh take on King’s 1974 novel about a socially isolated teenage girl whose telekinetic abilities unleash devastating consequences after years of mistreatment.

Summer H. Howell stars as Carrie White, with Samantha Sloyan playing her mother, Margaret White. The cast also includes Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder and Siena Agudong.

Rather than simply recreating earlier adaptations, Flanagan has described the Prime Video series as a reinvention of the familiar story. The show explores its characters and relationships from a different perspective while retaining the themes that have made King’s novel a horror classic.

The author has supported Flanagan’s reimagining, according to the show’s creator.

The story has been adapted for the screen before, most famously in Brian De Palma’s 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek as Carrie. Chloë Grace Moretz took on the title role in a 2013 film adaptation.

The new Carrie series is available to stream on Prime Video.

The infection, known as shigellosis, is caused by Shigella bacteria and can spread through contaminated food or water, person-to-person contact, and sexual activity. While Shigella has historically been associated with young children, health officials are increasingly concerned about extensively drug-resistant strains affecting adults.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the percentage of Shigella samples with resistance data classified as extensively drug-resistant rose from 0% between 2011 and 2015 to 8.5% in 2023. The findings, published in the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report in April 2026, highlight the growing challenge of treating certain infections.

What to Know About Shigella

Shigella is a highly contagious bacterium that causes an intestinal infection. Symptoms can include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. Some people develop bloody diarrhea, and severe cases can lead to dehydration and other complications.

The bacteria spread through the fecal-oral route, meaning microscopic amounts of infected stool can enter another person’s mouth. This can happen through contaminated food or water, contact with contaminated surfaces, or sexual activity; however, the CDC’s latest analysis did not include sufficient data on sexual exposure to determine how the extensively drug-resistant infections were transmitted.

Although anyone can contract Shigella, the CDC notes that gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men are more likely than other groups to become infected with antimicrobial-resistant strains.

In an interview with University of Minnesota’s Center for Infectious Disease Research and Policy (CIDRAP), Dr. Ferric Fang, a professor at the University of Washington School of Medicine and director of Harborview Medical Center’s Clinical Microbiological Laboratory, explained that sexually transmitted intestinal infections can “fall through the cracks” between traditional categories of sexually transmitted infections and foodborne illnesses. That overlap can make awareness and prevention more challenging, particularly when patients or health care providers do not realize that sexual contact may be responsible for an infection.

“About 15% or 20% of our patients who present with Shigella end up admitted to the hospital. They’re dehydrated. They have dysentery,” Fang told the outlet of his clinical experience. “I think a lot of men who have sex with men don’t realize that it’s sexually transmitted.”

An estimated 450,000 Americans get shigellosis each year, according to the CDC.

Why Drug-Resistant Cases Are Concerning

The CDC analyzed 16,788 Shigella samples with antibiotic-resistance data collected between 2011 and 2023. Of those, 510, or 3%, were classified as extensively drug-resistant.

These strains are resistant to five commonly used antibiotics: ampicillin, azithromycin, ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin and trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole.

The CDC warned that no Food and Drug Administration-approved oral antibiotics are currently available specifically to treat extensively drug-resistant Shigella infections, leaving clinicians with limited treatment options.

The agency’s analysis also found that most extensively drug-resistant cases occurred among adults, with men accounting for 86.2% of patients for whom age and sex information was available.

Although many Shigella infections resolve without antibiotics, severe cases may require medical treatment. Health care providers can test stool samples to confirm an infection and determine which antibiotics, if any, are likely to work.

The CDC recommends that clinicians consider antibiotic-resistance testing when appropriate to help guide treatment decisions.

How to Reduce Your Risk

Health officials recommend several steps to help prevent Shigella from spreading, including frequent handwashing with soap and water, careful food handling and safe drinking-water practices.

Sexual health precautions are also important. The CDC advises people to avoid sexual activity if they or their partner have bloody or prolonged diarrhea. To reduce the risk of transmission, people should wait at least two weeks after diarrhea ends before having sex.

Washing hands and the genital and anal areas before and after sexual activity can also help reduce exposure. Barriers such as condoms can provide additional protection during sexual activity.

Anyone experiencing severe or persistent diarrhea, particularly bloody diarrhea accompanied by fever or significant stomach pain, should contact a health care provider.

With drug-resistant Shigella strains becoming more common, health officials emphasize the importance of recognizing symptoms, seeking appropriate medical care, and taking steps to prevent further transmission.

RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr. on the popular show “Breaking Bad,” has died at the age of 34, TMZ reports.

A county official confirmed the news to the outlet that Mitte died on Monday, Oct. 12 in Texas, with his cause of death being reported as suicide. Law enforcement said that the death investigation is ongoing.

His representative further confirmed the news in a statement to the outlet.

“It is with profound sadness we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” his reps said. “RJ Mitte was best known for his role as Walter ‘Flynn’ White Jr. on AMC’s critically acclaimed, award-winning series Breaking Bad. Drawing from his own experience living with cerebral palsy, Mitte brought authenticity to the role and built a platform on disability awareness and inclusion.

“Beyond entertaining friends and family around the world, he served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s. He also served as president of The Mitte Foundation, supporting philanthropic efforts and community initiatives, while using his platform to challenge stereotypes and promote greater representation for people with disabilities. At this time, we ask people to respect the privacy of RJ Mitte’s family and close ones.”

Mitte appeared in 56 episodes of the AMC series that ran for five seasons from 2008 to 2013. He also got engaged to Kennedy Suarez last year. Along with his acting career, Mitte was a disability-rights activist, using his experiences living with cerebral palsy. He served as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s, as well as president of The Mitte Foundation, which is a “non-profit corporation investing in organizations and programs that improve the quality of life of Central Texans.”
