2001 Film Ranked the 'Best Horror Movie of the 21st Century'

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 3:16pm

Since the turn of the century, horror movies have become more mainstream and critically acclaimed. The publication Slant showcased some of the most beloved films from the spooky genre by sharing a list of "the 100 best horror movies of the 21st century."

The ranking, updated in October 2025, featured scary movies released after 2000 like Smile 2 (2024), Insidious (2010), Lake Mungo (2008), Hereditary (2018), The Babadook (2014), Drag Me to Hell (2009), and Get Out (2017). According to Slant, the top five horror films of the last 26 years include Let the Right One In (2008), Halloween II (2009), Trouble Every Day (2001), and Under the Skin (2013), with Pulse (2001) taking home the number one spot.

Pulse has a score of 76 percent on Rotten Tomatoes and a 68 on Metacritic.

Kiyoshi Kurosawa Discussed Making Horror Films in a 2025 Interview

In a 2025 interview with Studio 9, Kiyoshi Kurosawa, the director and writer of Pulse, discussed his decision to make several scary movies, like The Guard from Underground (1992), Loft (2005), and Daguerrotype (2016). Kurosawa, now 70, said that "horror is a genre [he has] loved since [he] was a child."

"I've always wanted to make scary films. And I am very happy that I have made several films in this genre. And I hope to make more in the future if I get the chance," continued the filmmaker in the 2025 interview.

Kurosawa also shared that he's aware that his horror films aren't for every audience.

"One thing I really feel, having made many films in this genre, is that when you really try to take it seriously, it becomes difficult to make something that the average person can enjoy," said Kurosawa. "You'll make something very philosophical that the general public may not understand or enjoy. I always feel this way because we are forced to deal with death, something ultimately incomprehensible to the living. It's not a concept easy to communicate. That is why it's very difficult to make a simple and enjoyable film in this genre."

Five Below's 8-Piece Fluted Organizer Set Is Perfect for Sorting the Small Stuff

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 3:05pm

Not sure if you've noticed, but storage can't just be storage anymore. It has to both organize clutterand look good doing it. It's what you, I and everyone else deserve. Functional pieces that do a job in the most stylish way possible, even if that just means corralling your makeup, hair accessories or craft materials.

Because, listen, we want to be surrounded by things that make us happy, right? And there's nothing that clears one's head better than a chic, well-organized space. I used to head to The Container Store for a lot of bins and storage accessories (and I still do), but more recently, Five Below has become my go-to for organizing my household more affordably. No offense at all to The Container Store, but the total adds up really fast over there.

Fluted Organizer Set 8-Pack, $5.55 at Five Below

Five Below

On my must-buy list at Five Below is this eight-piece Fluted Organizer Set, available in a clear colorway so you can see everything stored inside from the outside. At $5.55, it's such a steal for this many different compartments of varying sizes. This way, you can sort smaller items (like hair ties, makeup, beads, what have you) without worrying that they'll somehow go rogue into another section. It's three tiers of organization, and I am loving it. I'll gladly take all of the vertical storage, thank you very much.

Not going to lie, I'm a bit taken aback by how "fluted" everything is having a moment. Fluting is just that sort of ribbed edging that makes everyday items like an organizational set look a little fancier. And apparently, the people are here for it.

Right now, you'll find a fluted design on everything from lazy Susans to nightstands and just about everything in between. It's pretty and elegant, and it makes boring things more interesting.

You can head to Five Below right now and find all kinds of cute home items, like washable rugs that bring a dopamine decor moment. There's also the loveliest flower-shaped drinkware that's basically begging to be used during a sunset happy hour on your patio or porch. So go forth to Five Below and embrace its combo of whimsy and affordability. You won't be disappointed.

Burger King Is Releasing a Brand-New Dessert That's Exploding With Flavor

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 3:03pm

Burger King will soon release a new pie that's "exploding" with flavor: the Firecracker Cookie Pie.

On Wednesday, May 13, food blogger Markie_devo took to Instagram with a sneak peek of a limited-time menu coming soon to the fast-food chain.

The Firecracker Cookie Pie will reportedly feature a cookie with vanilla filling and topped with star cookie and dough pieces, as part of the America 250 celebration.

Reportedly, the new offering will drop nationwide on June 2, although Burger King has not officially confirmed the release date.

The reported pie is unlike any dessert BK currently has on its menu, with the only pie option currently being the Hershey's Sundae Pie.

"Not for nothing! Burger King’s pies are forking fantastic!" Markie_devo declared in the caption.

In the comments, many followers were intrigued by the Firecracker Cookie Pie. One Instagram user wrote, "The pie looks promising."

A second confessed, "Don’t even like Burger King like that, but damn does that firecracker pie look good."

Someone else lamented a missed opportunity, writing, "Damn it. I was hoping the firecracker pie would have popping candy."

A different follower pointed out, "That pie lookin 🔥."

Followers echoed these sentiments over on Facebook, with one follower exclaiming, "Ummmm, Firecracker Cookie pie! Sign me up."

"I’m excited for the pie," yet another echoed.

Meanwhile, others were still salty over not being able to try the limited-time SpongeBob-themed pie—the Star-berry Shortcake Pie, inspired by Patrick Star—for a collaboration that debuted at the end of last year, timed to The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants film.

One snarked, "If you can find them, never got to try the SpongeBob pie."

A second demanded, "Bring back Patrick’s pie."

Someone else bluntly stated, "F*** that. Bring that SpongeBob pie 🥧 back."

What do you think of the Firecracker Cookie Pie? Will you be trying it?

Kantamneni entered with $4,400, wagered more than half with $2,700, got the question wrong and left with $1,700, while Benjaminson had $9,600 going in, wagered all of it, and left with a final score of $0. 28 Years Ago Today, Hit '90s Sitcom Aired Its Final Episode and Drew 76 Million Viewers

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 3:00pm

It was 28 years ago today when an influential TV sitcom bid goodbye to viewers with a record-breaking finale.

On May 14, 1998, Seinfeld aired its last episode, officially signing off after nine seasons and 180 episodes.

The long-running sitcom, created by Jerry Seinfeld and Larry David, not only shaped the modern sitcom but also found its identity by highlighting life’s most mundane moments and social norms, essentially embracing its famous concept as a "show about nothing," as it was originally marketed.

Set in New York City, Seinfeld’s character, also named after him, was a neurotic stand-up comedian who served as a rational and observant center of the group.

Joining him as the lead stars were Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jason Alexander and Michael Richards.

Viewers loved the chemistry between the cast and how the show focused on the four quirky and often scheming characters.

During the two-part finale episode, more than 76 million viewers tuned in to the show, making Seinfeld one of the most-watched shows in history, as cited by the Chicago Tribune.

However, beyond the massive viewership on that day, the last episode, titled The Finale, received mixed reviews from viewers and critics.

At that time, the reviews spotlighted the controversial ending, in which the main characters were ultimately sent to jail, an outcome that some viewers found unsatisfying.

As mentioned on one Reddit post, viewers pointed out that the overuse of flashbacks was among the criticisms of the finale, saying that the backstory scenes felt like a cheap "clip show."

Another factor raised was the punishment of the characters, noting that the twist felt too dark and at some point felt like it violated the show's lighthearted comedy tone.

Years after the show ended, Seinfeld admitted that the finale episode bothered him “a little bit” but chose not to obsess over it and instead moved on.

“I don’t believe in regret,” he told GQ. “I think it’s arrogant to think you could have done something different. You couldn’t. That’s why you did what you did.”

Regardless of the show’s disappointing ending for some, Seinfeld marked a defining moment in the entertainment industry, even securing 72 award wins out of 244 total nominations from various award-giving bodies, including the Primetime Emmy Awards and the Golden Globe Awards.

Iconic ‘80s Rock Star Set to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award 39 Years After First No. 1 Hit

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:52pm

It’s been nearly five decades since Billy Idol entered the rock and roll scene—and 39 years since earning his first No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit, the live version of "Mony Mony"—and for the first time ever, he finally gets to share his songs with the American Music Awards.

For the award show’s 52nd annual special, Idol will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award, and is set to deliver a medley of some of his biggest hits to celebrate the accomplishment.

While Idol has presented at the AMAs before, this will be his first time performing. The rocker will join previously announced performers Karol G, Teyana Taylor, Keith Urban, and more.

Executive producers of the show, Barry Adelman and Alexi Mazareas, said in a press release that they’re thrilled to honor Idol.

“Billy Idol is a true rock legend whose influence has transcended generations and genres. From his groundbreaking music to his electrifying stage presence, Billy has left an indelible mark on popular culture and the music industry,” they said. “We are thrilled to celebrate his legacy with what promises to be an unforgettable performance.”

Before the Lifetime Achievement Award announcement, Idol announced that he will be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2026. He’ll be inducted alongside his guitarist, Steve Stevens, on November 14 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

“Being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame alongside so many of my heroes and influences is a tremendous honor,” Idol said. “And to be inducted alongside my longtime compatriot Steve Stevens makes this all even more special. When I first started playing with Generation X 50 years ago, it was purely out of love for the music we were making and the scene that we were lucky enough to be a part of.”

Idol continued, saying that he never thought he’d be where he is today.

“I’m incredibly grateful to all the people who have been behind me over the years, because none of this would have been possible without them,” he added. “This honor is for my fans, and everyone who has been on this journey with me, as much as it is for me.”

The American Music Awards will air live on May 25 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It will be AMA’s largest venue in the show’s history, and will be hosted by Queen Latifah. Fans can vote for the AMAs at VoteAMAs.com.

‘Enormous Wings’ Takes What Could Have Been a Fantasy and Adds Thought-Provoking Reality

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:51pm

When you first hear of a story that involves a 77-year-old woman getting pregnant, you’re likely to think of it as a fantasy. And there’s no reason not to. It seems impossible and absurd, but Laurie Frankel manages to find the reality and the heart in Enormous Wings.

This is definitely a five-star read. And I say that despite it making me so angry that I had to put it down at points. It wasn’t the writing or the protagonist that made me mad, but the situation she found herself in and the reaction of other people — on all sides of the political spectrum.

‘Enormous Wings’ Is Definitely Not a Fantasy

It did take me a couple of chapters to really get into the tale. We start off with a woman who isn’t ready to accept that she’s no longer capable of everything she once could do. That’s not unusual, and we get to see it from her point of view.

The narration of Pepper’s thoughts made me chuckle, but it did take time to really get into the meat of the story. We had to see how Pepper ended up in the same retirement living complex as her ex-husband and her feelings about that, and then, we had to meet the characters who would become her friends and boyfriend.

Yes, boyfriend. I love that we get this reminder that life doesn’t stop as we age. Not all men are after the next young thing that’s walking on buy. Moth is a gentleman, and while I’m not always convinced of his and Pepper’s interest in each other — that comes from Pepper’s narration of it rather than Moth’s feelings — I still love the cute buildup to how the two end up together.

Fortunately, it doesn’t take too long to get into the actual part where Pepper finds out that she’s pregnant. After all, this isn’t a story about how she gets pregnant, but about what happens afterward.

There are plenty of questions that come up, and they help to keep the story grounded in reality. Of course, there’s the discussion of abortion due to Pepper’s age and the fact that they’re in Texas. There are the different medical opinions about what could and should happen. We also can’t forget the questions of who will raise this baby, what happens afterward, and how the other grown children and grandchildren react to the news.

There are elements that are glossed over, such as the reaction of Pepper’s children and grandchildren, but I do think that it comes down to the fact that they don’t want to tell Pepper any of this. There’s even a quick mention of a certain doctor who violates HIPPA regulations, and I think that’s too small of a mention as it’s a much bigger conversation to have.

But those elements aren’t what this tale is about. It’s about Pepper’s life as she finds herself somewhat “blessed” with some sort of “miracle,” as that’s what a lot of people keep calling it.

Nothing about the story is fantastical in nature. Frankel comes up with a logical explanation as to how Pepper could get pregnant, and that even connects to Moth and his late wife’s story. There’s almost a serendipitous element to it, but it’s most definitely not fantasy.

Courtesy of MacMillan Publishers Laurie Frankel Knows How to Extract Emotion

While there were moments of disappointment, it was the moments of pure emotion I felt that negated all of that. You see, this is a novel that makes you feel.

As soon as word gets out that Pepper is pregnant, the world swarms around her. She can’t do anything without people getting in her business, and we’re reminded of the horrors of human nature.

Everyone and anyone has an opinion about what she should do. There are mentions of the radio station having callers on discussing about the life this child could have — and even if it will be born fully formed — and we get to see how journalists surround everyone involved in Pepper’s life to get some sort of story. It’s nothing new. We’ve seen journalists do this time and time again, and I’ve always looked down on them for doing this.

However, the parts that made me really angry were when we see grown men and women acting unethically to guilt-trip Pepper (and even Moth) into things that they want. One guy from a Big Pharma company even tries the “if it weren’t for me, this wouldn’t have happened” type of speech when the two show him the door.

I expect it of the protestors outside of Planned Parenthood or similar clinics. The three girls who want to make Pepper the poster child of why not to have an abortion are not strange. They still anger me, but it’s something we’ve annoyingly come to accept. What I didn’t expect was someone to pretend to be a delivery person to make Pepper the poster child of the exact opposite of the anti-abortion message.

Once all of this is out, there is no life for Pepper, and it brings up a much bigger question than that of the abortion debate. How much of our life choices are our own, and how much end up being in the hands of someone else? Because Pepper realizes that there may be more on the latter side than we really think, it led to a rather thought-provoking night as I finished the final chapters.

Enormous Wings by Frankel is now available to buy, and while there’s plenty of humor to it, do get ready for some big feelings.

1979 Punk Rock Classic, Introducing an Iconic Teenage Singer, Ranked Among ‘Greatest Songs of All Time’

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:38pm

In 1979, a fearless punk song challenging gender expectations arrived with a voice unlike anything listeners had heard before.

"Typical Girls" by The Slits was later ranked by Rolling Stone among the greatest songs of all time, cementing its reputation as one of punk's most influential and unconventional tracks.

At the center of the song was frontwoman Ari Up, who was still a teenager when the band emerged from London's late-1970s punk scene. Her wild vocal style, unpredictable energy and refusal to conform quickly made her one of punk rock's most distinctive and captivating figures.

"Typical Girls" perfectly captured that rebellious spirit.

Built around a playful but pointed critique of social expectations placed on women, the song rejected stereotypes with humor, sarcasm and jagged post-punk rhythms. Rather than sounding polished or traditionally melodic, the track embraced rawness and experimentation, helping push punk into new territory.

The Slits themselves were groundbreaking. As one of the first major all-female punk bands, they challenged the overwhelmingly male rock landscape of the era and inspired generations of female musicians across punk, alternative and riot grrrl movements.

Ari Up became especially iconic because of how young she was during the band's rise. Still in her teens, she brought an uninhibited energy to performances that felt both chaotic and completely original.

"The Slits had a great impact, but if there was a little more space for us to meet the demand of where we were heading for music and for women, and if more people would have known about it at the time, I think we would have established more ground," said Up in a 2006 interview. "Now, I think women are still struggling basically as much as we did."

Musically, "Typical Girls" also stood apart from many punk songs of the time by blending reggae influences with angular guitar work and unconventional rhythms, reflecting the band's willingness to experiment beyond traditional punk formulas.

Over the decades, the song's influence only continued to grow. Artists across alternative rock, indie and feminist punk movements frequently cited The Slits as pioneers who helped expand what punk music could sound and look like.

Its inclusion among Rolling Stone's greatest songs of all time confirmed the song's lasting cultural importance, not just as a punk classic, but as a groundbreaking statement about individuality, gender and artistic freedom.

"The Slits have become something beyond The Slits, bigger than life, bigger than our personalities," up told Loud and Quiet. "They have become very mythical. The responsibility to stay true to ourselves is huge. People need something like The Slits, even if it isn't us. Every time we play, there is always a girl who says, 'I am going to start a group.' There is always someone who tells us that we have been an inspiration or life changing. In 2010, Up died from cancer, and the song helped cement her legacy for decades to come."

More than 45 years later, "Typical Girls" still sounds daring, defiant and completely ahead of its time.

Trump Issues New Rules Around Student Loan Forgiveness, and Anyone Hoping for a Break Needs To Understand This

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:37pm

A Federal appeals court ended the Biden-era SAVE program that helped millions of Americans afford their monthly student loan payments. The Trump administration plans to replace it with other options with varying degrees of forgiveness and repayment.

📬 Grab the daily newsletter people actually read from Parade 📬

New Student Loan Programs

Millions of low-income borrowers may still be able to have their loans discharged, but most will have to wait decades, as the Trump administration extends the payment window to 30 years from 25 under the Repayment Assistance Program (RAP).

Beginning July 1st, borrowers can enroll in the program, which requires them to repay 1%-10% of their current income. Many borrowers cite loan repayments as one of the largest financial hardships they’ve incurred in an economy that no longer values degrees as a pathway to better-paying jobs.

The Income-Contingent Repayment (ICR) and Pay As You Earn (PAYE) plans are still available, but the debt-forgiveness portion of these plans no longer exists. If you’re hoping to get your debt forgiven, there are other avenues you can explore.

Related: Nurse’s Boyfriend Claims Dave Ramsey Has Her ‘In a Cult’ After She Paid off $83K in Debt

Forgiveness Pathways

The Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF) was signed into law by George W. Bush in 2007 and offers debt cancellation to nonprofit and government workers after 10 years of service. You can even apply for the PSLF retroactively if you’ve been working in one of these fields since 2007.

Another pillar of the PSLF program is that the nonprofit or government work need not have been performed consecutively. If you worked in public service for less than 10 years, left, and came back, your total time of service will be considered. If you’re a teacher, social services worker, park ranger, or employed in any of the qualifying positions, you’ll want to look into your eligibility.

Individuals living with a permanent disability also have forgiveness options. There are program requirements, but you’ll typically need to work with your doctor on submitting the paperwork for complete forgiveness or discharge of loans.

The New Rules

The Trump administration has changed many of the rules surrounding student loan repayment, making it more difficult for borrowers to fit the expense into their monthly budgets. There are options, however, depending on the job you take or your monthly income.

It’s worth taking the time to read the new rules and regulations to find out which programs may benefit you. No matter what options are available to you, the rules surrounding them have likely changed.

On this day in May 1984, The Natural, an instant sports classic about the rise of a gifted baseball prodigy, was the hottest ticket at the movie theater. Starring Robert Redford, Robert Duvall, and Glenn Close, and directed by Oscar-winner Barry Levinson, the film had as much star power behind it as Roy Hobbs had in his final at-bat. But even more shocking than Hobbs’ electrifying home run is the true story that inspired the movie.

View this post on Instagram

Adapted from Bernard Malamud’s debut 1952 novel, the story blends truth and fiction, with the truth part being way stranger than the fiction part. Mental Floss tells the story like this: “On June 14, 1949, a crazed fan lured a pro baseball player to her hotel room and shot him, point-blank, in the chest.”

Apparently, the teenage stalker holed up at Chicago’s Edgewater Beach Hotel, where the Philadelphia Phillies were staying, and carried out her plot to shoot first baseman Eddie Waitkus. When asked later why she did it, she said simply, “I’m not sure.”

Waitkus survived, with his wild story inspiring Malamud to write The Natural.

The art imitating life doesn’t end there. According to Remind magazine, Redford's character, from his swing to the number on his jersey, was borrowed from Redford’s baseball idol, Boston Red Sox icon Ted Williams. “Both were outfielders, and both hit home runs in their last career at-bats,” the outlet writes.

The film held the No. 1 spot at the box office for two weeks, according to UPI, before Indiana Jones,Star Trek, and Ghostbusters took over the throne. Raking in a whopping $48 million on a $28 million budget, the film held onto that momentum for nearly a year, as it was nominated for four Oscars at the 57th Academy Awards, including for music from the legendary Randy Newman and supporting for the iconic Glenn Close.

Today, The Natural is held in just as high regard, with best-of lists consistently name-dropping the film. From Rotten Tomatoes, The Hollywood Reporter, and Paste Magazine, to the MLB itself, the film is usually somewhere near the top of baseball movie roundups. And certainly, always at the top of our own favorite ways to revisit Redford in top form.

1971 TV Film, Winner of 5 Emmy Awards, Ranked Among ‘Best Sports Movies of All Time’

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:31pm

In 1971, Brian’s Song became one of the biggest events on television. The ABC Tuesday TV Movie of the week, starring James Caan and Billy Dee Williams as real-life Chicago Bears teammates Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers, originally aired on Nov. 30, 1971. The made-for-TV film, which also featured Shelley Fabares, Judy Pace, and Jack Warden, attracted a massive audience and won five Emmy Awards out of a whopping 11 nominations.

Vulture described “Brian’s Song” as the "picture-perfect example of the manly sports-movie weeper” on its list of the greatest sports movies of all time.

In addition, Collider ranked the film at No. 10 on a "best sports movies of all time" list that included Rocky, A League of Their Own, The Hustler, and Raging Bull. The outlet noted that because Brian’s Song was based on true events "that had only happened a very short time before the movie came out ….it likely hit home even harder” for viewers in 1971. “When watched today, it does have its limitations as a TV movie, but it shines bright because of the tearjerking story at its center, as well as for the lead performances by Caan and Williams,” Collider added.

Must-See TV

Brian's Song told the story of the interracial friendship between Brian Piccolo (Caan) and his teammate/roommate Gale Sayers (Williams) before and after Piccolo was diagnosed with terminal cancer. The movie, based on Sayers' writings about his friendship with Piccolo in his 1970 memoir I Am Third, aired on ABC a little more than a year after Piccolo died at the age of 26. The beloved running back, who died on June 16, 1970, had played with the Bears for four years, per the team’s official website.

Brian’s Song became the highest-rated made-for-TV film at the time and was even plugged by then-President Richard Nixon as “one of the great motion pictures” that every American should see, according to USA Today.

Speaking with The Guardianin 2024, Williams said the movie still holds a special place in his heart. “That whole experience was an act of love,” the actor said. “When James Caan and I met each other there was an immediate chemistry, and then working with Buzz Kulik, the director, turned into a wonderful, beautiful and very special experience.”

Brian’s Song is still remembered in the sports world as the ultimate movie tearjerker more than 50 years later. NBC sportscaster Bob Costas noted on ESPN’s Sports Century, “There's no question that Brian Piccolo's story was amplified by the movie. And now generations later, you don't know how many guys who ordinarily would be loath to admit that they shed a tear, will tell you at the drop of a hat, I still cry every time I see Brian's Song.”

The Most Affordable International Getaways for Summer 2026, According to the Numbers

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:25pm

Summer 2026 is shaping up to be one of the most volatile travel seasons in years, with higher fuel costs, route cuts and shifting airfare trends reshaping where Americans can afford to go. But the deals have not disappeared. They have simply moved.

According to new data from Dollar Flight Club's Summer 2026 travel report, the most affordable international getaways this year are closer to home, heavy on Latin America and the Caribbean and surprisingly strong in parts of Canada. If you are flexible about where you travel, there are still serious airfare deals to be found.

The report analyzed more than 500,000 airfare data points across 65 U.S. departure airports to determine which international destinations are consistently showing the lowest round-trip economy fares for summer travel. While Europe is seeing price spikes, short-haul international routes are holding steady.

If you are searching for the most affordable international destinations for summer 2026, Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean dominate the list.

According to the report, these are the most affordable international getaways right now:

  • León and Guanajuato, Mexico
  • San Juan, Puerto Rico
  • Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
  • Guatemala City, Guatemala
  • San José, Costa Rica
  • Mexico City, Mexico
  • Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
  • Nassau, Bahamas
  • Montego Bay, Jamaica

Many of these destinations regularly see round-trip fares under $400 from major U.S. cities, with some routes dipping even lower depending on departure airport and timing. For travelers planning summer 2026 beach vacations, Puerto Vallarta, San Juan, and Punta Cana stand out as particularly strong value destinations.

Short-haul international flights burn less fuel than transatlantic routes, which is helping keep prices more stable. In a year when airfare pricing is highly dynamic, these markets are producing more consistent deals than Western Europe.

Canada Emerges as a Cool and Affordable International Option

One of the more surprising findings in the summer 2026 travel data is how affordable Canada has become. For travelers looking to escape extreme heat without paying European prices, cities north of the border are delivering both cooler temperatures and competitive airfare.

The most affordable Canadian cities include:

  • Toronto, Ontario
  • Montreal, Quebec
  • Vancouver, British Columbia
  • Calgary, Alberta

Round-trip fares to several of these cities are frequently appearing under $400, making Canada one of the best-value international destinations for summer 2026. It is a rare overlap of affordability, comfortable weather and urban culture.

The takeaway for travelers planning summer 2026 international trips is simple: flexibility matters more than ever. Europe may still be on your wish list, but the most affordable international getaways this year are concentrated in Mexico, the Caribbean, Central America and Canada.

1977 Country Classic, Originally an Overnight Radio Anthem, Became a No. 1 Hit

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:20pm

Forty-eight years ago, the '70s father-daughter country duo The Kendalls topped the Billboard Country Singles chart with their smash hit "Heaven's Just a Sin Away."

Released in September 1977 as the second single and title track of their breakthrough album, "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" was an overnight sensation. Upon release, the track climbed up the Billboard Country Singles chart, peaking at No. 1 on October 8 and holding the position for four consecutive weeks. The song's success also bled into the Hot 100 chart, reaching No. 69— an impressive feat for a country duo during that era.

In addition to its chart success, the song earned significant critical recognition and commercial milestones. In 1982, the track was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling over 1 million copies. "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" also swept the following awards season, taking home a Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group and a Country Music Association (CMA) Award for Single of the Year in 1978.

Produced by Brien Fisher via Ovation Records, "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" originally gained popularity through heavy airplay on gospel radio stations. The country crossover hit was notable for its stunning harmonies and upbeat tempo that captured listeners' attention across genre palettes. The track's memorable melody and funky instrumentation created a sound that appealed to a wide audience and complimented the song's themes perfectly.

Written by country songwriter Jerry Gillespie, "Heaven's Just a Sin Away" tells the story of a woman desperately trying to resist the temptation to cheat on her partner. The songs cheeky themes of desire are executed through playful lyrics that balance traditional country storytelling with a modern touch.

Even after nearly five decades, the chart-topping single remains the duo's most popular work. On Spotify alone, the track has accumulated over 6.3 million streams, attesting to its ability to reach new generations in the streaming era.

Why No Doubt's Tom Dumont Decided To Share His Parkinson's Diagnosis

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:19pm

Tom Dumont purposely went public with his Parkinson's diagnosis ahead of No Doubt heading to the Las Vegas Sphere.

"I felt like as these shows got announced, I started thinking, 'I think I just need to just let people know about it,'" he said during an interview with ABC's Nightline this week. "I think it just makes it easier on me actually, if people know, it's something I don't have to hold inside or keep a secret."

"The beautiful thing is I've gotten so much support, obviously from family and friends and fans, but from the band as well," he added.

Dumont, 58, who shared his health update in April, also noted that he's "been doing great for a number of years."

In the announcement made last month, the iconic guitarist shared that after experiencing "a number of symptoms" he decided to go to the doctor.

"I went to a neurologist and I did a whole bunch of tests and I was diagnosed with early onset Parkinson’s disease. It’s been a struggle. It’s a struggle every day, and I’ll make another video with what Parkinson’s entails," he said. "The good news is I can still play music, I can still play guitar. I’ve been doing really well.”

No Doubt, which also comprises of lead singer Gwen Stefani, bassist Tony Kanal, and drummer Adrian Young, kicked off their residency at The Sphere on May 6.

"When we first decided to do this eight months ago, Tommy and I started getting together in Adrian's basement and we just started jamming," Kanal said in the ABC interview that aired on Tuesday.

"We're almost playing as good as we used to," Young joked.

Marking 30 years since the band's 'Tragic Kingdom' album, the band's set of shows has already been extended — they'll be playing 18 dates through June.

"The band was always the most important thing," Young also said of when the group started out. "Even when we were broke, the band was the most important thing to all of us for, better or worse."

Netflix’s Most Brutal Reality Show Yet Heads Into the Jungle

Thu, 05/14/2026 - 2:13pm

Netflix is taking its survival competition series Outlast somewhere much hotter for the premiere season of the spinoff.

The streamer just revealed the official trailer, premiere date and cast for Outlast: The Jungle, which drops 16 strangers into the unforgiving Panamanian jungle for a brutal fight to survive, strategize and outlast each other for a $1 million prize.

The new show premieres June 10 on Netflix.

Unlike in the two seasons of the original series, which were both set in the freezing wilderness of Alaska, Outlast: The Jungle trades snow and isolation for heat, humidity and what looks like a much more volatile social game. The newly released trailer teases shifting alliances, explosive confrontations and contestants struggling to survive in the dense jungle environment while battling exhaustion, hunger and each other.

Netflix described the season as a game where “survival becomes as much about strategy as endurance,” with contestants forced to stay in teams in order to remain in the competition.

Executive producer and showrunner Mike Odair hinted that the new setting completely transformed the series.

“This season felt like throwing gasoline on the format,” Odair said in a statement. “We traded the frozen isolation of Alaska for the heat and volatility of Panama, and everything changed: the survival, the strategy, and the social dynamics.”

He continued, “Having now seen two seasons of the game, these contestants arrived ready to test alliances and push the social experiment further than ever before, creating a season that feels more primal, unpredictable, and intense from the very start.”

The franchise first premiered on Netflix in 2023 and quickly built a following for its ruthless gameplay and survival-focused format, which forces contestants to work in teams while enduring brutal outdoor conditions. Unlike many reality competition shows, contestants can only leave the game voluntarily by firing a flare gun or through medical evacuation.

New episodes of Outlast: The Jungle will roll out over two weeks:

  • Wednesday, June 10: Episodes 1-6
  • Wednesday, June 17: Episodes 7-8

The season is executive produced by Jason Bateman, Michael Costigan and Emma Ho for Aggregate Films alongside Ryan O'Dowd and Krystal Whitney for BBC Studios.
