If the term "double trouble" had a duo of faces, it would be Link and Mash. The eldest pup is still getting used to the idea of having a furry little shadow following him around, but that's the luck of the draw when you're a sibling. Mash has been in the family since late March, and he's obviously a quick learner, because his stealing skills are A+.

Their parents cashing in on the funny pair with their "you steal it, you wear it" series is comedy gold. It doesn't seem to matter to the pup brothers, though, because even after having to model things like mop heads, plants, and plungers, they still can't keep their sticky fingers from taking more things!

While some dogs steal things because they want attention or need comfort, most others do it for the thrill. It's especially true if they take something they know gets a reaction from their humans because it'll inevitably end with a fun game of chase (they're too smart)!

Some cute canines may take comfort items with our scent so they can snuggle up with an item that makes them feel safe and secure with "us" near. And because retrieving is instinctual, there's a genetic need to carry things around in their mouths.

If you find your pup constantly taking something you've told them not to, experts say not to chase, and instead, offer them a trade for a high-value item like a treat. Likewise, training the "drop it" command may help, depending on how rebellious your dog is feeling.

When my Corgi steals her brother's chews, she usually wants attention, and that's an easy fix. As for Link and Mash, they're just having fun and bonding, even if stealing isn't the ideal way to do it!

One moment, the African savanna looked completely empty. The next, it seemed to come alive. During a safari, travel agency owner and avid traveler Brittiany Bir was watching a lone lioness making her way through the grass in the Serengeti when she suddenly let out a powerful call. Within seconds, lions began emerging from the tall grass one after another.

What makes the moment so incredible is that neither Brittiany nor the viewers had any idea the rest of the pride was there. The tall grass had concealed them so perfectly that they were virtually invisible until they started moving. As lion after lion appeared seemingly out of nowhere, the reveal left everyone doing a double take, and served as a shocking reminder of just how easily these apex predators can disappear into their surroundings.

Why Lions Use Contact Calls

Did you know a lion's roar can be heard from as far as five miles away? It's the sound they're most famous for, but roaring is just one of many ways lions communicate. They also use a variety of vocalizations, including one of the most important: the contact call.

According to Early Trails Expedition, a safari company in Uganda, lions communicate using roars, snarls, meows, hisses, and even purrs. "When lions separate from one another for a long or short period, they call out to each other. This is more of a soft call, referred to as contact calling." These calls help pride members find one another and regroup.

Male lions primarily use their powerful roars to let others know where they are, to defend their territory from rival males, and to attract mates. Softer vocalizations, like contact calls, help the pride coordinate movements, locate their cubs, and reunite when tall grass, darkness, or long distances make it difficult to see one another.

After watching this video, we have a feeling we'll never look at "empty" African grasslands the same way again.

Senior dogs and cats in shelters are often overlooked by potential pet parents due to possible health issues and limited lifespan. Yet these fur babies have so much love left to give and make a wonderful addition to families.

The TikTok from @franflight shared Ruby's story and how this pretty kitty had been in a shelter several times before.

"This is Ruby's third time back at the shelter," the on-screen text explained as the pretty kitty cuddled with a NAWS staff member. "She is 14 years old and has experienced so much loss."

Ruby has some health issues due to her age, but she still has a heart of gold.

"She doesn't see as well as she used to, her hips don't work the best anymore either — neither do her kidneys," the story continued. "But there's one thing that hasn't changed about Ruby — her wanting that human connection."

This feline fur baby needs a home that can give her the love and support she needs in this season of her life and help her heal from her past trauma.

"A connection that lasts," the post noted. "A connection that is understanding and empathetic. A connection that is patient. A family to be there for her the last part of her life."

While some adopters are hesitant to bring home a senior cat because of certain health conditions, they need to consider the joy and love these older felines bring to a family.

A secretary bird is an African raptor known primarily for being a relentless snake hunter. How does it hunt? Unlike other raptors, the secretary bird is mostly terrestrial and hunts on foot. It uses its long, powerful legs to deliver lethal kicks that can reach a force of up to five times its own body weight in just 15 milliseconds, stunning or killing its prey instantly."

Fortunately, they usually try to avoid people, so they don't hunt or attack humans.

Why Are They Called Secretary Birds?

Are you now wondering how secretary birds got their unusual name? There are two popular theories. According to the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, the most widely accepted explanation is that the long black feathers projecting from the back of the bird's head resemble the quill pens that 19th-century secretaries often tucked behind their ears.

Another theory, shared by How It Works Daily, suggests the name evolved from the Arabic phrase saqr-et-tair, meaning "hunter bird," which may have gradually transformed into "secretary bird" over time.

However the name came about, one thing is certain: this bird doesn't exactly fit the stereotype of a quiet office secretary.

When you think of Dalmatians, a very clear image comes to mind: dogs with bold black-and-white coloring (you may also think of Cruella de Ville).

But that could all change when you see this unusually colored Dalmatian puppy.

This Dalmatian puppy can also be described as a liver-and-white Dalmatian or a brown Dalmatian, as previously described.

One difference with these types of pups is that they have brown-pigmented noses instead of black noses, like standard Dalmatians.

Brown Dalmatian puppies also tend to have blue or brown eyes, while black Dalmatians have black eyes.

Brown Dalmatian dogs also have white or brown toenails, instead of white or black, according to The Happy Puppy Site.

How Rare Are Brown Dalmatians?

Brown Dalmatians are considered moderately rare dogs.

To get a brown Dalmatian puppy, both parents have to carry the recessive liver gene, which is harder to come by, but it does occur.

It should also be known that Dalmatians come in other colors besides brown and black.

They are also available in tricolor, sable, brindle, and lemon.

Origins of the Dalmatian breed go as far back as 3700 B.C., and they were seen in Dalmatia, a region of Croatia.

What Are the Personality Traits of Brown Dalmatians?

As for the personality traits of brown Dalmatians, like black Dalmatians, they are highly energetic dogs.

They require a fair amount of exercise because of their energy levels, so don't expect this dog to just lounge around all day.

According to Dogster, they tend to have a very strong bond with just one person, which is why they may be ideal for a single dog parent rather than a family.

Niall Harbison comes across some tragic situations working with street dogs through his Thailand animal rescue, Happy Doggo. Dealing with canines suffering from various medical conditions and injuries, Harbison often saves dogs who have experienced unimaginable abuse.

Espresso is a sweet puppy that was actually poisoned and almost didn't survive. Now, with the help of Harbison and his team, she is showing amazing strength and resilience in her recovery journey.

Harbison was alerted to Espresso's dire circumstances by nearby locals. He came to her rescue in mid-June and has been tending to her ever since. The precious pooch, who appears to be a Dachshund mix, received all the medical intervention and hands-on care she needed at Happy Doggo.

"The team have been working so hard to save Espresso Martini’s life and then to try and get her back walking again," the caption explained, sharing the horrific condition Espresso was in at first. "I’m usually very positive but I have to say even I was doubting if a comeback or walking would ever be possible. She just seemed too weak... I was really having bad thoughts about her future. Luckily Espresso herself was having none of those thoughts."

Espresso is quite a little fighter and is determined to recover from this traumatic experience. The canine cutie recently took her first step since her health crisis and gave a tail wag of victory.

"She just works and works to get herself better," the story continued. "In the last 24 hours everything has started to change... Espresso was pushing herself up and she took some actual steps for the first time in weeks."

Espresso Has Plenty of Support

Harbison raved over Espresso's progress and her resilient spirit, noting that even when things have looked bleak, the pretty pup inspires them to keep going. She has the entire Happy Doggo team committed to her recovery and ready to help her achieve the life she deserves.

"We think she might just have a good life ahead of her," the caption shared. "We have to celebrate the small wins! Four steps might not seem like much to you, but to Espresso, it is the world right now."

If you spotted a young bear and wolf facing off along Alaska's coast, you'd probably expect the encounter to end, well, unhappily. Instead, wildlife photographer Casey Cooper captured something far less common: a bear cub and wolf pup playing together like two kids, as if they had forgotten they were supposed to be rivals.

At first glance, the encounter appears to be the beginning of a confrontation. The young wolf darts forward while the bear cub stands their ground, and for a moment it seems like tensions could escalate. But instead of aggression, the two animals engage in what looks more like a playful game of chase, wrestling, and tag.

According to Cooper, the interaction lasted an incredible 45 minutes! He explained that while bears and wolves have long been rivals competing for territory and prey, especially along Alaska's coastline, he'd never witnessed anything quite like this.

The photographer also reported that the bear cub wasn't alone. Two siblings were nearby, and their mother was keeping watch from a distance. He noted that the cubs were already fairly large, and the sow didn't appear concerned by the young wolf's presence, seeming content to let the interaction play out.

The remarkable encounter quickly captured attention. 

@turneranise commented, "That was very captivating!!! I've never seen anything like this before. Amazing what nature can show us."

Another viewer, @countrywildernessliving, offered some insight into the behavior, writing, "And if pup is young and bear is young, they are known to play chase for fun. They don't try to eat everything… They also play. No one is hungry, and just practicing skills is part of life."

Someone else included a picture of their three-legged adult Golden Retriever, reminding them that these disabled dogs can live beautiful and long lives. "They can do well with only three legs… Our Izzy lost her leg at 5 years old and lived until 13…" the person wrote.

'Tripod' Dogs Adapt Faster Than Most People Expect

Though some people may see a three-legged Golden Retriever puppy and immediately be sad and think their life will be very challenging, this little guy and so many other tripod dogs will prove them wrong.

First of all, dogs are very resilient creatures.

If they have been missing a limb for a long time, they may even forget they ever had one.

And since Monty is just a puppy, there's a good chance he won't even miss that front leg.

Of course, challenges do come with missing a leg, and it's a bit more difficult to lose a front leg than a back leg, as dogs place 60% of their body weight on their front legs, but with a few little tweaks, you can help them get over this hurdle.

You may want to limit their ability to jump on furniture or climb stairs, as that can be harder for them.

Also, get them toys that encourage them to sit and play, and not chase them around.

But three-legged pups can enjoy walks just as much as four-legged dogs, and exercise is absolutely essential to keep them healthy.

They also need to follow a healthy diet, as obesity can be a risk for a tripod dog.

Also, be sure to keep an eye on their paws, as they may be more prone to injury and infection.

But as you can see in this sweet video, these pooches have a lot of heart and determination, as even when Monty falls down, he gets right back up and is on his way again.

He's got three legs and a whole lot of Golden.

If there's one universal law all moms understand—even animals—it's that nothing is more important than the love of your child. Losing them is total devastation, leaving an infinite void that can't be replaced.

Agnus, the mother cow, knows this to her core. She's not only her herd's resident caregiver, but she's also a heartbroken mother grieving the sudden loss of her calf, Clover. In what can only be described as a gut-wrenching scene, Agnus says goodbye (grab the tissues for this one).

Anderson Farms knows a thing or two about raising affectionate animals who feel deeply and love their herd. But Agnus bellowing out cries of pain over losing her child is too much.

"She is broken. She keeps calling for her baby over and over, waiting for the answer she knows so well. She licked her sweet Clovie, loved on her, and my heart broke all over again," the caption reads in part.

It all began on June 28, when Clover was barely a week old and human mom, Emily, discovered the lethargic calf had a fever, refusing to get up. The family did everything they could, including multiple rounds of IV fluids, vet checks, and TLC.

Aside from an infected umbilical cord, the baby caught a viral infection. With Clover away for treatment, Agnus' heart had already started breaking. The next day, the sweet calf seemed well enough to go home to her mama, and Agnus was thrilled.

Unfortunately, mere hours later, Clover went downhill. With so many unknowns, they did all they could to keep her comfortable with cooling vests and mats, but the days that followed would prove to be a rollercoaster of emotions.

They loaded Clover up and took her to the University of Missouri, 3 hours away, to figure out the next steps, but the test results showed that Clover was fighting something no one knew how to stop. So, home she went, back to her loving mom who'd been crying out for her baby the whole time.

Sadly, Clover passed just before the plans for her came to fruition. As devastating as it must've felt bringing her home for Agnus to grieve, it's a way to help the mama cow understand and process her grief.

June 21 marked Clover's official introduction to the world via social media, and right away, this little girl with the infectious personality won everyone over. While other cows in the herd weren't instant fans of the new calf, Mama Agnus got straight to work hiding little Clover in places even her humans couldn't find.

From day 1, Agnus was a fiercely devoted and protective mother who did everything she could to keep her baby safe, even against all odds, and we know she'll be so missed.

Truffle the Bernedoodle is a Bernedoodle, of course, while Snoopy is a Beagle. However, the mostly white face and black nose on Truffle are definitely making them look similar, especially when his ears flop over.

Truffle is an almost 2-year-old Ultra-Merle Bernedoodle, which is a mouthful, but basically just means he's:

Are Bernedoodles Good Dogs?

Truffle the Bernedoodle is one of the coolest dogs I've ever seen: he's so cool that it almost makes me want a Bernedoodle! However, I just know this is not a breed that will ever work for me, as much as I'd love one!

Bernedoodles are generally very good dogs! They do well with kids, other dogs, cats, and even strangers most of the time. They're super friendly. However, they can also be a little bit tough to manage! They need:

• A lot of exercise.
• Extensive, regular grooming.
• Consistent training.

These dogs are highly intelligent, which can be both a blessing and a curse: they're easy to train, but they also learn where your lax points are, and they'll use that to their advantage!

My dogs immediately know when they've done something wrong. They both get that guilty expression on their faces that gives them away. My senior Dachshund can barely look me in the eye, and my Pug mix tries to feign innocence with those adorable big brown eyes but can never fully pull it off.

In the TikTok from @tiaonnataylor, Maars and his mom sat in the car to have a heart-to-heart. Apparently, the precious Poodle went outside to do his business but got sidetracked, and not for the first time.

"Every morning it's a performance, and I'm tired," the on-screen text shared.

"You just can't come outside and use the bathroom and mind your business," his mom began in a stern tone. "What is the problem? Every day, multiple times a day, you're coming out here and you're embarrassing me. What is so hard about minding your business?"

The fluffy fur baby had a completely flabbergasted expression that seemed to say, "I have no idea what you're talking about." The look on his cottony white face was even more pronounced due to the contrasting black color of his ears. Still, Maars's charm didn't stop his mom from letting him have it.

"All you've got to do is come out here, and pee and poop," she explained, then mimicked his incessant bark. "But you come out here, and 'ruffruffruffruff' every day."

Maars didn't take kindly to her impersonation of him and looked away in annoyance. He was probably thinking, "I do not sound like that".

Poodles Are Highly Intelligent

His mom continued her tirade as Maars calmly listened though he clearly acted like she was speaking about someone else.

Followers advocated for the canine cutie and compared him to an iconic cartoon dog:

• "That’s a fluffy Snoopy!! He’s so cute," one remarked.
• "As his therapist after all this trauma at your hands I am recommending 2 pup cup visits weekly for 6 months, and belly rubs 5 times a day," another instructed.
• "I’m sorry, but I’m on his side," someone noted.

Chances are, Maars was fully aware of what his mom said. Poodles are considered one of the smartest dog breeds and have the potential to understand as many as 400 words, where other breeds come in at approximately 150.

Hopefully Maars and his mom can reach an understanding so this sensitive situation won't have to cause any more friction.

TikToker Ghost Panther (@_ghostpanther) is usually out exploring Australia's wilderness in search of elusive big cats. But during a hike through the Blue Mountains in June, he stumbled upon something even more unexpected: a rare lyrebird, and was immediately captivated.

At first glance, the bird looks like something straight out of a fantasy movie. As it strutted through the Australian bush with its unusual shape, striking plumage, and almost prehistoric appearance, viewers (ourselves included) couldn't quite figure out what they were looking at. Keep me mind that each cat is unique, so every pet will have their own preferences for socialization, comfort and affection. But Dr. Cahn says you can take some steps to bond and build trust with your cat. "Setting up a cat-friendly home and being a predictable and positive presence in your cat’s daily life is the best way to position yourself as their primary source of comfort," Dr. Cahn says. "One of the best ways to keep affection positive is to let your cat guide the interaction and respect their body language when they have had enough."

Your cat will show you signs that they rely on you to be there for them in times of need, but they may be sneaky about it. Many cats are masters in the art of subtlety, after all. Here are some expert-backed telltale clues your cats find comfort in you that you mght not notice.

1. They nap on or near you

One adorable sign your cat trusts you is where they choose to sleep. Cats love their naps (hence the term "cat naps). However, kitties are rather particular about where they sleep because Dr. Cahn says it's such a vulnerable state for them. "When a cat settles on or near you, they are showing that they feel safe in your presence," Dr. Cahn says.

Dr. Cahn adds that cats may get comfort from our warmth, touch and familiar scent, helping them sleep a little tighter. It's like you're their hero.

2. They rub against you

You may notice that your cat is always rubbing against everything—furniture, a scratcher or your rug. But why does a cat rub against you? Cats rub with purpose. Dr. Cahn explains that they have scent glands in their cheeks, chin and the top of their head. These glands deposit pheromone markers every time a cat rubs.

"When a cat rubs against you, they are marking you with their scent as familiar and safe, which is often a true sign of affection and trust," Dr. Cahn reports.

So while this may be a strange cat behavior to you, it's actually a sign your cat loves you and their way of telling you.

3. They lick you

Dogs aren't the only animals that lick to show affection—cats do it too. In fact, if your cat feels safe with you, Dr. Cahn says they'll perform this form of "allogrooming," which is a a social bonding behavior they typically reserve for other felines in their colony. It's quite the compliment if your cat decides to lick you for this reason. "This is a cat trust sign that they consider you a true member of their family," Dr. Cahn says.

That said, Dr. Cahn clarifies that some cats lick because they like the taste of the salt on your skin or out of habit. "The meaning can vary a bit from cat to cat," Dr. Cahn says.

4. They come to you after hiding

Many cats will run and hide when something scares them, such as strangers walking in the door, a car backfiring or when they don't feel well. However, Dr. Cahn emphasizes you don't need to be offended if this happens a lot as hiding is normally a cat's "first natural instinct if they feel frightened."

How do cats show comfort and affection in these stuations? If you are your cat's first stop after they come out of hiding, it's a clue your cat feels a deep sense of security in you.

"If your cat comes to you after they emerge, it is a strong sign that they find your presence to be comforting and reassuring," Dr. Cahn says. How sweet is that?

5. They vocalize when they need something

You may be your cat's favorite person if they talk to you and express their emotions. In fact, Dr. Cahn says adult felines will generally reserve a meow only for their humans and not strangers. "Cats may meow to communicate their needs to you, whether it’s food, play or social interaction," Dr. Cahn says.

This shows that your cat feels protected by you and bonded to you. Therefore, they know if they get your attention, you will help keep them safe and help them when they need it.

"Increased vocalization can also be a sign of pain or illness and should be brought to your vet’s attention if it is new, persistent or accompanied by other symptoms," Dr. Cahn says.

6. They like snuggles

Cat-human companionship can be tricky, but Dr. Cahn adds that some cats show they trust their pet parents by letting them hold them.

"Seeking you out for physical contact is a sure sign that your cat is comforted by and enjoys your presence," Dr. Cahn says. "When a cat relaxes in response to your touch, it means they are truly comfortable with you." 

So if your cat likes to cuddle, remember it means your cat feels secure in your arms.

7. They give you love bites

Why does you cat bite you? "Love bites" are usually soft and won't break the skin, and cats often use them to seek attention or play. Still, you may not like this sign that you are your cat's primary comfort source and actually find it rather uncomfortable.

Dr. Cahn adds that some cats may do soft bites when they're frustrated or overstimulated as well, so context matters. Following your cat's cue can make it more likely they'll come to you for comfort when they want or need it.

You never forget the first time you see something that completely rearranges your understanding of the world.

For Boomer, a senior rescue horse, settling into life at Fabled Farm Rescue, that moment came with long ears.

His new family may have forgotten to mention that donkeys lived here. That small detail became important the second Boomer spotted one and made a face so deeply confused that people online discovered horses apparently have a "What on earth is that?" expression.

And Boomer has perfected it.

The older horse had never seen a donkey before, so his first encounter with Obie was less "Hello, new friend" and more "Why does that horse look and sound like that?"

You can pretty much see the questions forming.

Why are the ears so long?

Why does this strange little horse seem to have opinions already?

Obie, meanwhile, doesn't appear interested in making the introduction less confusing. The donkey has strong feelings about the newcomer and brings exactly the kind of energy you'd expect from someone who believes Boomer should have received a full orientation before arriving.

The post jokes that the rescue may have forgotten to warn Boomer about the donkeys and all the other new animals waiting for him. Judging by his face, a brochure would have helped.

There are a few reasons cats make biscuits (aka knead), and some of them are downright adorable. The instinctive behavior begins in kittenhood, to stimulate milk flow when nursing from their mom. The warm, happy sense of feeling safe and fed stays with them as they grow, but translates differently.
