Here, we have a very sleepy Ziggy, sitting up next to the door with his eyes almost closed.

"At first, I thought he was upset, but it turns out he was just asleep," Ziggy's dad, Mike, wrote in the video.

Toward the end of the clip, Ziggy jolts awake and realizes that he was snoozing. Oops.

He may not be the most attentive employee, but nobody can say that he doesn't do his best. I am really impressed with his ability to fall asleep while still sitting up like that, though. That's not something that just any dog can do.

As someone who has, in fact, fallen asleep while sitting up at her desk and trying to work, I can confirm that Ziggy might be the most relatable dog on the internet. No matter how much you want to stay awake sometimes, that need for sleep just takes over.

Parrots are among the few animals who can make you feel personally judged without saying a single understandable word.

Put three of them together, though, and apparently you get a comedy panel.

In the video, one unsuspecting husband finds himself standing in the middle of a trio of Parrots gathered around his feet. Instead of politely welcoming him, the birds are laughing.

The sound is so perfectly timed and so deeply disrespectful that it feels less like random bird noise and more like he has walked into the final round of a roast nobody warned him about.

His wife summed up the scene by saying her husband had been absolutely dragged by three Parrots, and there really is no better description. The birds stay near his shoes, cackling together like tiny cartoon villains who have just learned something embarrassing.

Naturally, the people in the comments section started investigating.

One person wondered whether the Parrots had strong opinions about his sneakers or his socks. That seems possible. They are standing suspiciously close to his feet, and their laughter has the confidence of birds who believe they have identified a fashion emergency.

Another comment pointed out that some people get bullied by kids at school, while others somehow go on vacation and get bullied by birds.

Imagine saving money, packing a suitcase, and traveling somewhere new just to get publicly humbled by three animals wearing feathers.

The best part is that the Parrots seem delighted with themselves.

At first, some viewers thought the laughter was coming from the wife behind the camera. It takes a second to realize the birds are responsible, which somehow makes the whole thing funnier. His own family didn't assemble this comedy routine.

The Parrots handled it in-house.

One viewer described their sounds as evil villain laughs, and I completely agree. You can picture the trio meeting before his arrival.

"Everyone knows the plan."

"Humiliate the shoes."

"Laugh until he questions everything."

What makes Parrots so entertaining is that their sounds often feel uncannily placed. They are highly social birds, and may learn noises by listening to the people and animals around them. Sometimes they repeat a sound because it gets attention. Sometimes the timing is pure coincidence.

And sometimes, three Parrots look directly at one man and make coincidence very difficult to believe.

The husband may never know what started the roast.

His shoes?

His socks? His overall vacation energy?

We may never know.

The Parrots, however, reached a unanimous verdict.

Parrots are social, vocal animals who learn sounds from their surroundings. A laugh may become part of a bird's everyday sound collection, especially when humans respond with attention, laughter, or excitement.

The World Parrot Trust explains that parrot vocalizations often serve social purposes, and the situation around a sound can help you understand what the bird may be saying.

A few tips to help read the moment:

• Pay attention to the timing. Notice what happens immediately before the sound and how people react afterward.
• Look at the whole bird. Relaxed feathers and playful movements tell a different story than a stiff posture.

These three may have learned laughter from humans, but the synchronized roast was all their own.

After more than a decade of being a cat mom to two kitties who are only a couple of years apart in age, I can say that a lot of times, the way they play together makes it look like they hate each other. According to what Angus and Romie's human said, these two fight like this "at least five hours a day," and it looks like it's a good way for them to wear themselves out, if nothing else.

Just two balls of fluff, having the best time — even if, to the untrained eye, it might look like they don't like each other. Cat people know better!

Besides, play fighting is very important to cats and their development, especially as kittens. As My Lovely Feline points out, cats will fight with each other as a way of playing with the other cats in the household, and you'll be able to tell when it's just a game if they don't bring out their claws.

Just remember not to break up the fight yourself if you can tell your kitties are playing. It's important to their development to make sure they can have these interactions with other cats.

Their 'Fight' Ends the Same Way Every Single Time

Angus and Romie might love to play by fighting, but at the end of the day, you'll find them in the same place: Cuddling and napping together.

I'm officially down one pet because my daughter recently moved out with her Pomeranian. Every now and then I catch myself thinking, Maybe one more wouldn't hurt. Then I look over at Meatball, Elvis and Tarkus and remember I already have three cats who somehow manage to take up the space, shed and appetite of about twelve. I absolutely do not need another kitten.

Unfortunately, nobody bothered telling my brain that before I saw this impossibly fluffy blue tortoiseshell Maine Coon kitten. She looks like someone scooped up a tiny puff of smoke, sprinkled on a little magic and gave it ears. I've seen a lot of gorgeous kittens, but this little girl has one of the prettiest coats I've ever laid eyes on.

This precious girl was shared by the TikTok account for @Majesticmainemajesy and as she rolls around, her fluffy coat catches the light in the prettiest way. Depending on the angle, she looks like she's made of shadows, mist or little storm clouds. It's easy to see why Maine Coons have such a devoted following. They're already breathtaking as adults, but as kittens they're somehow even more magical.

The short answer?

Usually, yes.

Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, so growing kittens need plenty of high quality nutrition to support healthy bones, muscles and development. Your veterinarian can help determine how much food is appropriate based on your kitten's age, weight and activity level.

Speaking from personal experience, though, Meatball would happily eat breakfast, second breakfast, lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, dessert and a little midnight charcuterie board if I let him.

He acts like he's never been fed a day in his life.

Fortunately for him, Maine Coons do grow slowly compared to many other breeds, often taking three to five years to reach their full size. That means they spend a long time transforming from impossibly tiny fluffballs into the gentle giants everyone falls in love with.

Watching this little smoky kitten, I can already picture the gorgeous adult she's going to become.

Although...

I'd also be perfectly happy if she stayed the size of a tiny puff of smoke forever.

In the TikTok from @snickersthesmilingcat, the captivating calico was curled up in a cozy comforter getting in some "me time." The markings on Snickers's face were almost like a patchwork quilt, interspersed with splotches of honey-cinnamon, black, and white surrounding two piercing green eyes.

Her nose was covered in midnight black fur, standing out from the rest of her face. Yet what was most noticeable was the literal smile on Snickers's face. The formation of colors framed around her mouth made her appear like she had a welcoming grin.

"Sending you a smile in case your day has been heavy," the on-screen text shared.

Many followers posted their appreciation for brightening their day with the feline fur baby's friendly greeting.

Why No Two Calico Cats Ever Look Exactly Alike

A calico's coat coloring is determined during pregnancy through a process called X-inactivation. The developing kitten's body randomly 'shuts off' either the orange or black gene in different groups of cells responsible for fur growth.

The areas where the black gene is active grow black fur, and the areas where the orange gene is active produce orange fur. White fur is the result wherever neither gene activates. This process makes each calico cat truly unique.

Calicos are usually female and are often confused with Tortoiseshell cats, yet there is a definitive difference. A calico coat has large patches of black and orange fur, separated by white fur. Tortoiseshell cats have mottled markings like calicos, but without white fur.

Many owners wonder, "How do I know if my dog loves me?" Trainers say the answer often comes down to everyday behaviors. It's there that you can see qualities in your dog that define who they really are. See how many of these your dog does to find out just how much of a loyal dog they are.

They naturally stay by you

This trait can depend on the dog, and some will never naturally stay by your side no matter how much they love you. But dogs who stay by your side are sending a clear message that they’re loyal, according to Molly Jespersen, training specialist at Camp Bow Wow. 

“One of the clearest expressions of loyalty you will ever see from an animal is when a dog chooses to stay close to you without being asked,” she says. “Dogs are social creatures who form deep attachment hierarchies, and the person they choose to be near throughout the day is the person they have identified as their anchor.” 

They're protective toward you

Have you ever wondered, "Why does my dog protect me?" The answer is simple: You are their favorite human and therefore they feel a connection with you that they don't with anyone else.

In fact, a dog who positions themselves between you and an unfamiliar person or who becomes alert and watchful in new environments is showing a “deeply rooted” form of loyalty, Jespersen says. “Protective behavior comes from a dog who has deeply bonded with their person and taken on an emotional investment in their safety,” she says. But context matters, according to Elisha Stynchula, CPDT-KA, certified dog trainer and owner of I Said Sit School for Dogs. “A breed that is prone to protectiveness might stand between you and a stranger, alarm bark or be vigilant in certain settings,” she says.

These can also be signs of reactivity or fear, trainers point out. Instead, “true protective behavior is calm, deliberate and directed specifically at you,” Jespersen says.  

They get excited when you come home

What's an easy way to see if your dog is loyal to you or not? Stynchula says that your dog’s reaction when you come home is a “very clear indicator” of how they feel about you and can reveal how deep their love and commitment is. “For one partner, a dog might be very excited and greet them at the door with tons of enthusiasm; For the other partner, they might be lukewarm or maybe just lift their head,” she says. Dogs have a release of the love hormone oxytocin when their owner comes home, and their reaction gives you “clear data” on a genuine bond, Stynchula says.  

Jespersen agrees. “A dog who greets you with full-body enthusiasm after even a short time apart is a dog who has been attuned to you the entire time you were gone,” she says. “That level of investment in your comings and goings is a reliable indicator of a loyal dog.”

They bring you "gifts"

Dog trainers reveal signs of a strong bond between you and your dog can be really sweet and somewhat of a surprise. Whether it’s a toy, sock or anything else they can get their paws on, dropping a valued item at your feet taps into your dog’s instinct to share resources with members of their pack they value the most, Jespersen says.

“Offering something to you is their way of including you in something important to them, and it signals that you occupy a meaningful place in their social world,” she explains. “It would be easy to brush this off as a quirky habit, but from a behavioral standpoint, gift-giving is a sincere gesture of connection and goodwill that deserves to be recognized as such.” 

They read your emotions and respond

Dogs are proven to pick up on human facial expressions, Stynchula points out. “A loyal dog may offer signs of comforting you if you are sad or upset,” she says. “That might look like nuzzling you or leaning into you for contact.” Dogs who are naturally bonded to their humans tend to develop a finely-tuned sensitivity to shifts in tone, posture, breathing and facial expression, Jespersen says. “When your dog comes to sit with you because you seem sad, or tones down their energy because you are stressed, they are demonstrating an emotional attachment that is one of the highest expressions of loyalty in the canine world,” she says.

Cloud is a senior Great Pyrenees who ended up in a shelter after being found as a stray on the side of the road. The sweet, 13-year-old good boy had emotionally shut down from whatever he'd gone through before his rescue. Cloud is our 13-year-old senior that no one wanted. He was found on the side of the road, & by the time he made it to the shelter, he was emotionally shutting down. Staff told me there were days he didn’t even want to get up to go outside. The moment I saw him, I knew there was still so much love & life left in this sweet boy. Adam & I brought him home to foster, & he was absolutely terrified. His little body trembled from fear, yet even in that state, he still leaned in and asked for head scratches. That’s when I knew he was open to trust. Before working with him, I regulated my own nervous system first, then began gentle somatic work with Cloud. Within 24 hours, everything started to change. He began prancing when I called his name, wagging his tail, wanting to play, wanting connection. Then this happened on day 3. With fearful dogs, trust is everything. While I was laying down, Cloud kept circling the console table in our quarantine room, so I pulled out my phone & started recording, the rest speaks for itself. Thanks to @bigfluffytales in Atlanta, Georgia, the once-terrified Cloud is now in a safe place where he's beginning to let his true self shine through. During his stay at the shelter, there were days this sweet boy trembled in fear and didn't want to go outside because he'd completely withdrawn. But the moment she and her husband saw him, it was love at first sight, and it couldn't have come at a better time.

"I knew there was still so much love and life left in this sweet boy," she wrote, adding, "even in that state, he still leaned in and asked for head scratches. That’s when I knew he was open to trust."

Trust didn't come overnight. It took deliberate thought and care as to how the family could help Cloud come out of his shell. As an experienced foster parent, she knew that working with a fearful senior dog like Cloud meant gaining his trust, and that began with letting Cloud set the tone.

"Before working with him, I regulated my own nervous system first, then began gentle somatic work with Cloud," she explained. "Within 24 hours, everything started to change."

By day three, the Great Pyrenees circled the console while his foster mom lay down, letting her know he was ready to open his heart.

Now, as this senior pup is still figuring out what this new version of life is, he's enjoying his homemade breakfasts in bed every morning, a plush orthopedic bed to relax in every night, and more love than his heart ever knew was possible.

How Much Sleep Do Rabbits Need?

A rabbit's sleep routine isn't like humans, where we go to bed when it's dark out and sleep for 8 to 10 hours. Instead, they sleep during the day and in the middle of the night, sleeping more during dusk and dawn, according to Rabbit Hole Hay. 

Rabbits also don't take their day's worth of sleep in one go, like we do, either. The experts explain that within a 24-hour cycle, the average bunny will sleep between 8 and 12 hours, but it's never in one giant stretch. Rabbit Hole Hay explains that rabbits take many short naps throughout the day and night, and when they need a deeper sleep, it can happen at any hour. They can even do it while standing. 

"This split-sleep pattern is a leftover survival trait," Rabbit Hole Hay explained. "In the wild, rabbits are prey animals. Sleeping in short bursts gives them a better chance of detecting danger and making a quick getaway."

Since they have that wonderful talent of sleeping while sitting, it's not always easy to catch them napping. Instead, you can recognize some common characteristics, such as a relaxed posture, being very still, having a slowed-down nose twitch, or lowering their ears. Some will even do a cute snore to make it a little more obvious they're in dreamland. 

Video games are a favorite pastime of many, with options overflowing for every skill level. Whether it's on your computer, iPad, or phone, gaming draws users in to test everything from strategy to reflexes.

Even our fur babies are starting to get in on the action. Capo the Dachshund got a little overexcited when he tried his paw at Fruit Ninja and almost cracked his iPad.

In the Instagram video from @capoandtaya, the darling Doxie was decked out in a black-and-white gaming outfit and completely absorbed in the fruit-slicing game on the iPad. Capo jumped and pounced on the screen every time he saw those fruits fly and even tried destroying a few pieces with his mouth.

The fur baby got more and more frustrated as each piece of fruit got away from his grasp. Capo practically tried smashing through the screen, but to no avail. Despite his tireless efforts, the precious pooch couldn't pummel the produce.

Can Dogs Play Video Games?

Though they may not be able to turn on a device or download something specific, dogs can actually play certain video games. A study from the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna discovered that touchscreen and tablet games even helped dogs avoid mental decline during the aging process and lessened separation anxiety.

The study revealed benefits of dogs playing video games, especially for older canines, which included:

Every parent eventually reaches the milestone of watching their child take the next big step toward independence, whether it's scooting, crawling, or taking those first wobbly steps. For sandhill cranes, that milestone is learning to fly.

When Do Baby Sandhill Cranes Learn to Fly?

Baby sandhill cranes, called colts, can walk within hours of hatching, but learning to fly takes much more time and practice.

According to the Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition, colts spend weeks building strength in their legs and wings before making their first successful flights at around three months of age. During their first month, they begin flapping their wings. By the second month, they start "dancing" and practicing pre-flight movements. In the third month, they continue dancing while refining their takeoffs, landings, and flying skills alongside their parents.

The Southern Wisconsin Bird Alliance explains that cranes dance for three main reasons: to attract a mate by showing off their strength and fitness, to strengthen the bond between a mated pair, and to express aggression or defend their territory.

Watching this little colt practice reminds us that even nature's best fliers have to start somewhere.

He's a golden retriever with a fluffy coat, soulful eyes, and the energy of someone who's been waiting his entire life to speak to a camera. He's been ready for this moment. The receipts are organized. The kibble is about to be spilled.

The receipts go like this:

The bait and switch. This pattern of behavior was established early on.

The most chaotic solidarity comment in this entire session. Someone went to extreme personal lengths to avoid detection by their own dog. The dedication is staggering.

Here's the thing about a golden retriever who thinks he was kidnapped by someone who thinks she birthed him: they're both kind of right about how intense that bond actually is. And science just weighed in on why.

Why Golden Retrievers Make Their Humans Feel Like They Actually Birthed Them

Turns out the woman in her 30s isn't completely wrong.

According to research covered by Vice, scientists at the University of Cambridge looked at DNA from around 1,300 golden retrievers and compared it to large human genetic datasets. What they found was very surprising: humans and golden retrievers share 12 genes that shape both the golden retriever personality and human emotional traits. It’s the same wiring. Even though we’re two completely different species, we share a connection.

Eleanor Raffan, the study lead,  called the results "really striking." The genes they found continue to show up in emotional states and behavior in both species. One gene tied to how trainable a dog is matches human traits around problem-solving and emotional sensitivity. Another link to fear in goldens shows up in humans who are anxious and moody.

Vice describes golden retrievers as sitting at the center of something new in science: natural stand-ins for studying human mental health and emotional sensitivity. These dogs respond to the world in ways that look a lot like humans. They're clingy, and they're emotionally tuned in. They pick up on stress like it's their second language.

Which explains everything, including mom’s birthing claim.

She didn't just bring home a pet. She found a creature that shares her emotional wiring, looks into her eyes, and triggers the same bonding feelings that connect parents to their children. Of course, she thinks she birthed him. Science is practically making the case for her.

All they wanted to do was give this sweet baby some kisses, but instead, the "spicy" puppy let out some truly angry barks for such a small dog!

Don't worry — she wasn't actually that angry. In the caption, her humans wrote, "She is the sweetest Bloodhound puppy but she’s learning her voice and she actually does loves kisses."

According to their previous videos, this puppy is part of a litter that the family welcomed pretty recently, so it does seem like she's just now getting a grip on that bark of hers (and looking adorable doing it, not gonna lie).

Bloodhounds are very vocal dogs, so they better strap in. If she's this noisy as a puppy, she's only going to have even more to bark about as she continues getting bigger and stronger!

What That Tiny, Feisty Bark Really Means

At first, puppies usually have very tiny barks — they are new to this whole dog thing, after all. But if you notice sometimes your puppy is suddenly sounding a lot scarier and louder than they used to (and possibly even barking more frequently), congratulations: Your dog is learning how to use their voice.

As Purina points out, puppies will begin barking around the time they are eight weeks old, and soon enough, you'll notice them barking at you, which means they're figuring out how to communicate.

You will come to know them best, which means that you're really who knows best when it comes to the reason your puppy is barking, whether it means they're hungry, having separation anxiety, warning you of danger, or they just want attention.

And if you have a very vocal puppy, take heart in the fact that as they get older, they'll likely calm down a lot — and of course, there are ways to train dogs to bark less (or at least more quietly).

Cockatoos Are Smart, Mischievous Birds

In observing Boujee, even if only on social media, it's obvious that cockatoos are highly intelligent, silly, and playful. Cockatoos are so smart that their intelligence is equivalent to that of a human toddler. It makes them unique and very interesting pets.

Cockatoos are excellent problem solvers and love a challenge. This can backfire, as many cockatoos are known to unlock their cages or get into places where they don't belong.

Along that same line, because of their smarts, Cockatoos can get bored easily, which makes them prone to mischief and troublemaking. While this is oftentimes totally innocent and playful, it is important to make sure they aren't able to break things or get into things that could be harmful to them.

On top of all of this, Cockatoos have a huge capacity for emotional intelligence and loving their family. They're incredibly loyal and get very attached to their people. They're also very sensitive and require a good amount of mental stimulation to be happy and healthy birds.

An employee at a marina on Seattle’s Orcas Island heard a sound he couldn't quite place. He looked outside and saw a bald eagle and a great blue heron engaged in combat right there on the dock.

It happened at Deer Harbor Marina while the employee was inside his houseboat making dinner. FOX 13 Seattle tracked him down after the marina posted the footage, and the marina's own caption had a pretty good line: "Ironically, while the U.S. was taking on Belgium Monday night, another all-American showdown was happening right here at Deer Harbor Marina. Even the local birds are competing for the best waterfront views."

The video shows a great blue heron squared off against a bald eagle, wings out and beak snapping, while the eagle stands there looking confused. A few ducks nearby seem to be trying to stay out of it completely. FOX 13 called it a duel between a wading bird underdog and an all-American raptor, and that framing fits almost perfectly.

One commenter pointed out that it's illegal to harass bald eagles, which is absolutely true under federal law. But this wasn't a person harassing an eagle. It was just two wild birds doing what wild birds do. They're squaring up.

So what actually causes two birds like this to confront one another in the first place?

What Actually Triggers These Territorial Battles Between Birds

According to Hakai Magazine, a lot of it comes down to space and survival, not just an obsession with territory and some random bad mood.

But bald eagles are territorial by nature. They'll even chase off other eagles that get too close to their turf, and that same instinct extends to how they treat other birds nearby, including blue herons. Eagles are also known to raid heron nesting colonies directly, cracking open eggs or flying off with chicks while the adult herons scream and scatter, trying to defend the nest. When food or territory is on the line, eagles turn back.

Herons aren't pushovers. Researchers on the coast of British Columbia found that herons will actually build their nests right next to eagle pairs on purpose, using the eagle's territorial instinct as a kind of shield against other predators. It's a very risky trade-off, but it means herons spend a lot of their lives living in close range of a bird that could turn on them at any moment. Researchers have started calling it the "mafia protection racket."

That kind of proximity means tension is high from the start. A heron squaring up against an eagle on a dock isn't as random as it looks. Herons are used to living close to danger, and they know how to hold their ground when they need to, sharp beak and all.

As for who won this particular dockside standoff, the footage doesn't say. But judging by the comments, the internet's already picked its favorite. Team Heron apparently has the numbers. The bald eagle flew away. The blue heron held its ground.

In the TikTok from @trufflecosta, the precious puppy was enjoying some cuddles from his mom. Truffle wriggled around, yawned, and rubbed his eyes, almost like he had just woken from a nap.

The canine cutie's coat could make anyone do a double-take. A marbled mosaic of cinnamon, gray, and white fluffy fur, Truffle's coat was like a poofy work of art. His floppy ears flying and tilting in all directions, along with his playful personality, exuded cartoon character or puppet vibes. Truffle looked like he was created in a studio or toy factory.

Bernedoodle's Fluffy Coat Is Low-Shedding

A Bernedoodle's coat is very lush and voluminous, giving them that cloud-like appearance. Thanks to their Poodle heritage, however, these hybrids aren't big shedders, so pet parents can enjoy that fluffy fur without the scattered dog hair.

Bernedoodles range in size, depending on which parent they take after. They can weigh anywhere from 10 to 90 pounds, with smaller dogs being referred to as Mini Bernedoodles. This crossbreed makes a wonderful family dog due to their loving and loyal personality.

I've seen plenty of wobbly kittens trying to walk, but I've never met one quite like Lieutenant Dan. The tiny orange fluffball has the biggest, most expressive eyes and the sweetest little personality, and while he's still figuring out how to get around, he's already won over thousands of people online.

His back end has viewers joking that he's driving around with a flat tire, but judging by all the love pouring into the comments, Lieutenant Dan has an entire fan club cheering him on.

Fortunately, Lieutenant Dan does have legs. He's just not using them the way most kittens do yet.

The video begins with his cat mom gently supporting him in a tiny homemade harness before setting him down. Instead of taking off on four paws, Dan promptly tips over and that somehow makes him even more endearing.

Between his oversized eyes and his determined little spirit, it's impossible not to fall in love with him.

What to Do If You Suspect Something Is Wrong With Your Kitten's Legs

Young kittens can be clumsy as they learn to stand, balance, and walk, but if your kitten seems unable to bear weight, repeatedly falls over, drags their legs or isn't making expected progress, it's a good idea to schedule a veterinary exam.

Some kittens simply develop a little more slowly than others while others may have orthopedic, neurologic, or congenital conditions that benefit from early diagnosis and treatment.

Your veterinarian can perform a physical exam and recommend any testing, physical therapy, or supportive care that might help.

The most important thing is not to assume your kitten will "grow out of it" without first getting professional advice.

Whatever Lieutenant Dan's journey looks like, one thing is already obvious.

He may have a wobbly start, but he has no shortage of people rooting for every tiny step he tries to take.
