Oklahoma Department of Wildlife's List of Bizarre Phone Calls Has People Cracking Up

Sun, 09/06/2026 - 7:55am

Have you ever encountered an issue with a wild animal, or had a question about your local wildlife? It’s possible that you called your local wildlife department about this. Wildlife departments and rescues receive countless calls each day. However, some people aren’t quite sure when they should call their local wildlife department, which leads to some hilarious conversations.

The TikTok account for Oklahoma’s Department of Wildlife is going viral for highlighting these types of calls. In a clip, they share a list of reasons people have called their department recently. While some calls are serious, the examples in this video are just plain silly. The last one is especially funny!

LOL, we’re cracking up over this video! Officer Farrar of the Oklahoma Wildlife Department is featured in the video and shares these silly calls with a deadpan expression. His slight shake of the head at the end really takes it home. We can hardly believe these calls are real!

People in the comments were sharing some of their favorite parts of the video. One person said, “Are we really just going to gloss over the frog Bigfoot thing?” and another viewer commented, “The quail and pheasant season guy was playing next level.”

Others were sharing their own funny anecdotes about dealing with customer service and animals, such as a TikTok user who commented, “I had a lady call once because Susan, the Cardinal, hadn’t been to her feeder in a few days, and ‘she never misses a meal, honey!'”

As much as we’d like to believe it, wildlife department employees aren’t miracle workers and can’t address every concern a civilian might have about their local wildlife.

When Should You Actually Call the Wildlife Department?

As funny as this video is, it prompts a more serious question: When should you call your local wildlife department?

First and foremost, sick or injured animals warrant a call to your wildlife department. If the animal is bleeding, staggering, unconscious, convulsing, or has a broken limb, there’s a good chance the department can help. However, minor injuries like a light bonk on the head or small scrapes aren’t serious enough to warrant human intervention. When a wild animal has a serious health issue, the department will bring them to a rehabilitation center for treatment before releasing them back into the wild.

Related: Coyote Casually Joins Dogs at the Dog Park Like He’s Just One of the Pack

Another reason to call is if an animal potentially has rabies. This condition isn’t one to take lightly. If you encounter rabies-risk animals, such as raccoons, foxes, skunks, bats, or coyotes, who are acting strangely and in close contact with humans, it’s a good time to call the wildlife department. They can help limit the exposure of humans and other animals to the rabies-infected creatures and guide humans who may have been bitten to seek treatment.

Any time a wild animal bites or scratches a person, they should call the wildlife department to capture or contain the animal and test for diseases. Furthermore, an animal causing property damage is also a valid reason to call the department. They can remove and relocate an animal that’s a nuisance to residents to limit human-and-wildlife interactions.

Every state has a wildlife or game commission department. Additionally, counties or cities may have their own wildlife departments to deal with animal issues locally, and some may even have nonprofit rescues for smaller native animals and rehabilitation services. These are all excellent resources to contact if you encounter one of these scenarios.

Just as the video from the Oklahoma Wildlife Department shows, people will call their wildlife department for just about anything. Keeping the lines clear for genuine emergencies means faster response and more animals saved!

Shelter’s Longest-Resident Dog Has Waited Months — Yet Nobody Has Asked About Her

Sun, 09/06/2026 - 7:10am

With so many animal shelters being overcrowded, numerous dogs get overlooked in favor of adorable puppies or small dogs. Some canines can wait months without even a request for a meet-and-greet.

Sadie the Pit Bull mix was brought to Cobb County Animal Services several months ago. Considered the shelter’s “longest resident,” Sadie didn’t receive one inquiry since she arrived.

@sharing.lov3

⬇️ READ HER STORY ⬇️ Sadie arrived at the shelter as a stray dog on June 3rd, and nobody ever came looking for her. Ever since she arrived, day after day, week after week, month after month, she has watched countless dogs get adopted and get chosen… except for her. Nobody has ever asked about Sadie. Nobody has ever asked to meet her in the bonding room. She just sits in her kennel like the whole world has forgotten about her. 💔 Every day, she goes out with volunteers for her daily walk, and honestly, that is the happiest time of her life. We remind Sadie how beautiful she is, how loving she is, and that she is still worthy of love. She is only one year old, healthy, and has her whole life ahead of her. Walking a dog on the urgent list is always the scariest feeling because we never know if this could be their last walk. 😭 Sadie is a pit bull mix. Because she came in as a stray, we don’t have much information about her, but from interacting with her at the shelter, we have a good feeling that she may be good with other dogs. She usually shows positive body language when walking past them. She is also already spayed and ready to leave!! 🙏🏻❤️ As far as kids and cats, that information is unknown. You are always welcome to bring your whole family to the shelter for a meet and greet to make sure Sadie would be a good fit. I hope this video reaches the right person.🥹 I promised Sadie that I would try my best to find her family because I know her family is out there somewhere. They just haven’t met her yet. ❤️ Sadie deserves to finally be chosen. 🐾 #dog #rescue #adopt #story #tiktok

In the TikTok from @sharing.lov3, a shelter staff member sat outside with Sadie to share her story in the hopes of getting the precious pooch some attention, especially since she is on the “urgent list.”

“All of the other dogs that were on the urgent list were either rescued or adopted, except for our beautiful Sadie,” she explained. “She is absolutely beautiful and she has been waiting for 86 days.”

Sadie was found as a stray and brought to the shelter in June. No one ever came to claim her, and since her arrival, she hasn’t received any requests for a meet-and-greet.

“Nobody has ever asked about Sadie,” the caption shared. “Nobody has ever asked to meet her in the bonding room. She just sits in her kennel like the whole world has forgotten about her.”

Staff members and volunteers make sure Sadie gets time outside and lots of love while she continues to wait for a forever home.

“Every day, she goes out with volunteers for her daily walk, and honestly, that is the happiest time of her life,” the story continued. “We remind Sadie how beautiful she is, how loving she is, and that she is still worthy of love.”

Sadie Was Relocated to a Rescue

Since Sadie was on the urgent list, a rescue organization stepped in to take the canine cutie out of the shelter while she waits for adoption. According to an update from the social media post, Sadie is now with Last Pit Stop Rescue and still hoping for a forever family.

Sadie has a sweet and gentle personality, is in good health and spayed, and estimated to be approximately a year old. There isn’t much background information on her since she was a stray, though she seems to interact well with other dogs.

Hopefully, someone will soon open their heart to this gentle fur baby and give her the happiness she deserves.

For information on Sadie, you can still contact Cobb County Animal Services via their website or by phone at (770) 499-4136.

Super-Rare Ginger Bernese Mountain Dog Looks Like a Cup of Warm Apple Cider

Sun, 09/06/2026 - 7:00am

Everyone knows Bernese Mountain Dogs, right? They’re notorious for their tri-colored coat: black, tan, and white. They’re beautiful, but they have a look that they hardly ever deviate from.

One Bernese Mountain Dog did, though: instead of the typical black/white/tan, he’s completely ginger! He would be a show-stopper any time of year, but he’s especially giving all the fall vibes:

@thegoodboybutters

The Ginger Bernese Conspiracy 🎥 🍿

♬ On a Mission – Duomo

Butters the Ginger Bernese Mountain Dog is definitely a dog I would love to have in my house. He kind of looks like they were trying to finish painting him in a rush, and they ended up forgetting the last layer of his coat. I’m glad they did! This ginger boy is perfect!

Butters is actually a Bernese Mountain Dog/Maremma Sheepdog mix. It makes her the ultimate farm dog, but it still doesn’t explain the ginger! Maremmas are typically white and look a little bit like a Great Pyrenees.

Related: Adorable ‘Cheese-Dusted’ Bernedoodle Puppies Look Like Fluffy Little Angels

Most likely, the combination of their genes was able to suppress the black in his coat, creating the ginger and white combination. It’s interesting because it just seems so vibrant, especially when he’s sitting in the sun:

@thegoodboybutters

Stay wild ⚡️

♬ original sound – thegoodboybutters

The biggest difference about his coat, other than the color, is the texture: his fur is long, but it’s less fluffy than a typical Bernese Mountain Dog’s. I swear, I could stare at him all day!

Grooming a Bernese Mountain Dog

Ginger or not, Bernese Mountain Dogs have a lot of needs when it comes to grooming. Those coats need work! Butters is very well-cared for, but if you want to get one, you’re going to need to prepare for that, too.

Photographer and Illustrator / Getty Images

Proper grooming for a Bernese Mountain Dog starts at home and then, in most cases, ends with a professional groomer. They should be brushed a few times a week to prevent tangles and matting, and then every 6 weeks or so, they should get a bath. A professional groomer will:

  • Trim fur/santiary shave backside and paw pads if needed.
  • Bathe.
  • Blow-dry completely.
  • Trim their nails.

You can technically groom your Bernese Mountain Dog at home, but because of how dense their coat is, a lot of people prefer to let a professional handle it. I bet Butters is a real hit with his groomer!

4 Key Personality Traits of Pet Parents Born in September, According to an Astrologer

Sun, 09/06/2026 - 6:10am

People born in September get to enjoy the best of both worlds. It’s still warm in many areas of the country, while tiptoeing into the excitement and coziness that naturally comes with fall. But September babies have a lot going for them on the astrology front, too, and that makes them especially good pet parents. This is the result of the astrological energies that are at work during the ninth month of the year. But what are September-born people really like and how might their September personality traits show up in the way they care for their pets?

These people fall under the signs of Virgo or Libra, both of which lend themselves to being excellent care givers, according to astrologer Lisa Stardust. Of course, that doesn’t mean you can just kick back and assume that the stars will take things from there for you. Instead, being born in September suggests that you have certain astrologically-gifted personality traits and skillsets that not every pet parent has. The key is figuring out how to put these to good use for you. In other words, your zodiac sign may influence more than your personality, it could also shape your pet-parenting style.

The core tenets of being a great dog or cat parent are still the same: Shower your pet with love, show up for them daily, tend to their needs and take them to the vet as prescribed. But these animal lovers born under Virgo and Libracan lend their own special touch to this role, leading to a happier, healthier pet overall. So, no matter if you’re born during this month yourself or you know someone who is, keep reading to discover how having a birthday in September influences a person’s perspective and strengths. From their approach to pet care to the way they bond with their animals, these September birthday personality traits can offer an interesting glimpse into what makes them unique furbaby moms and dads.

The Astrology of Being a September Pet Parent

If you’ve ever wondered what your zodiac sign says about your pet-parenting style, your September birthday may offer a few clues. People born in September are one of two zodiac signs: Virgo, which are born August 23 – September 22 or Libra, which are born from September 23 – October 22, Stardust explains.

4 Key Personality Traits of Pet Parents Born in September A Virgo pet parent who animals love being around.

No matter if you’re a Virgo or Libra, these September-born personality traits may influence the way you approach life with your dog or cat and raise them.

1. Service-Oriented

People born in September are likely to be more giving, according to Stardust. “Virgo likes to help others, while Libra is the sign of partnerships,” she says. “They’re always trying to find a balance in how they can encourage people — and pets — to be their best.” As a result, Stardust says that September pet owners “will do more than most pet parents” when it comes to giving to their pets.

That giving nature can be especially noticeable in the everyday routines of a responsible dog or cat caregive to your furbaby.

2. Go-Getters

“Cardinal signs such as Libra are go-getters,” Stardust says. When it comes to being a pet parent, that means that people born in September will always try to ensure that their pets are social or have the latest toys to foster their growth, she says. “These pets will be looking fly when they’re walking down the street,” Stardust says.

Also, don’t be surprised to see September pet parents create a social media account for their little ones, they want to get them out there, after all. Overall for dog and cat parents alike, that enthusiasm can translate into an active, engaged approach to pet ownership.

3. Partnership-Focused

Libra is a sign of relationships, making September pet parents focused on partnerships, Stardust says. “They’re about different types of people and pets coming together,” she explains. As a result, September pet parents love to spend one-on-one time with their pets after a long day, and always make a point to ensure their pet’s needs are met.

That focus on connection may also strengthen your human-animal bond, which is an important part of what makes pet parenting so rewarding. When you have a tight connection and trust, nothing can come between your relationship.

4. Thoughtful

There’s no doubt about it, you’re a sensitve soul and that’s actually a good thing as not everyone has that quality. “Virgo and Libra are both very thoughtful signs,” Stardust says. Because of this, September pet parents always look out for their little ones and try to tune into their emotions, she says. “They focus on giving their energy to others,” according to Stardust.

At the same time, people born in September are sympathetic and compassionate. “They’re sensitive beings and do tend to care more about others,” Stardust says. As a result, that empathy and consideration may be one of the traits that makes you particularly attentive to your furry companion’s needs and emotions. In short, it’s your superpower.

English Bulldog Surrendered 'Because She Has Allergies' Just Wants Someone To Love Her

Sat, 09/05/2026 - 8:55pm

It can be heartbreaking for an animal lover to think about all the animals sitting in shelters waiting to find their forever families. Some dogs get adopted and think that they’ve finally found their homes, only to be brought back to the shelter for reasons beyond their control, just like one little pup capturing hearts on TikTok.

A shelter volunteer recently shared a video of one resident of BARC, an animal shelter in Houston, Texas—an English Bulldog named Summer. In the clip, she shares that this pup was returned to the shelter by her former family because the poor dog has allergies. We can hardly believe it!

@bristexastails

Update: Safe with @AustinBulldogRescue 💖 — Another English bulldog surrendered by their owner..shocker! Summer needs some TLC asap! When I first approached her kennel she was like girl back up but after I leashed her up and scratched her butt she said fine we can be best friends. She’s going to cost someone some money, so if you take her in be prepared for the vet bills! She is in the URI ward but has started on meds that will need to be continued even when she leaves. 🔵When there is an update this post will be updated at the top of the caption! •Questions? Oh my goodness, she’s beyond precious! This sweet girl was sitting in her cage at the shelter, solemnly waiting for her forever family to take her home. However, the volunteer took her out of her cage, and the two spent a little time getting to know each other. It’s clear in the way she lovingly accepted pets and cuddles that she’s sweet as candy and ready to find her forever home (again).

People in the comments were so taken by Summer that they’re thinking of adopting her. One person said, “Oh gosh, I live in San Antonio, what’s the adoption radius?” and another commented, “Currently trying to talk my husband into adopting her.”

Others were rooting for this English Bulldog to find her family, such as the person who commented, “Praying this sweet girl finds her forever loving home,” and someone else who said, “Please, someone give beautiful Summer the forever love she deserves.”

Everyone is rooting for Summer and hopes she will find her forever home soon. How anyone could resist that cute face is beyond me!

How To Manage Allergies in an English Bulldog

English Bulldogs are among the most likely dog breeds to develop allergies, so if you adopt one, it’s important to understand how to manage their allergies.

Related: Shelter Hound Mix Never Claimed by His Family Is Too Heartbroken to Eat

First, you’ll want to identify the cause of the allergies—there’s a variety of things that could trigger allergies in an English Bulldog. It could be environmental factors, like pollen, dust mites, mold, or grass, or food sensitivities like chicken, beef, dairy, or wheat. In some cases, it could even be a flea bite. Once you’ve identified the source, you can work on eliminating it from your pup’s immediate environment.

You can help your pup manage their allergies by wiping down their paws, face, and folds after walks to remove trapped pollen and by cleaning their facial wrinkles daily to prevent moisture and yeast buildup. Give your pup regular baths using a hypoallergenic or medicated shampoo every few weeks to soothe irritated skin. However, you’ll want to avoid overbathing, which can dry out the skin.

Lastly, clean your home consistently by vacuuming regularly, washing your dog’s bedding in hot water, and using air purifiers. All these things can help reduce indoor allergies for your pup.

These will be helpful tips for Summer’s future family. We know they are out there, and we hope she finds them soon!

Maine Coon Kitten’s Gorgeous Fall Coat Looks Like a Pumpkin-Spiced Mocha

Sat, 09/05/2026 - 8:20pm

Maine Coon cats always have the coolest color patterns. Some combos are so striking, it’s like someone painted them by hand. The kitties sporting burnt oranges, cinnamons, and chocolate browns are your sign that it can always be fall in your heart.

One Maine Coon kitten decided it’s pumpkin spice season right meow, and she’s giving new inspiration for your next mocha latte order. Take a look at her jaw-dropping hues (and enjoy a warm, comforting pumpkin spice latte while you’re at it):

♬ Heartbreaker – Pat Benatar

Cleveland, Ohio-based cattery, Tycoon Maine Coons, has a real gift when it comes to producing some of the most beautiful kittens. This girly girl’s name is Zuzu, and she couldn’t be any more of a walking, meowing billboard for pumpkin spice season if she tried. Those are the perfect autumn vibes my Halloween dreams are made of—I’ll take the whole litter, thanks.

What Colors Do Maine Coon Coats Come In?

With more than 75 recognized colors and patterns, a Maine Coon’s coat seems like an endless array of color combos. The breed’s cool hues cover nearly every shade on the spectrum to some degree, with the exception of pointed patterns and cinnamon, chocolate, and lilac colors.

The solid base colors Maine Coons might have include raven black from root to tip, snow-white, a soft or gray-blue, a vibrant tangerine tint (or reddish copper/orange), and shades of peach ranging from buff to peachy.

Tortoiseshell and Calico kitties like Zuzu have more of a patchwork or kaleidoscope look, in cream, red, and black. These kitties with bold color contrasts are just so beautiful.

♬ Sneaky Paws – The Muted Socks

The addition of a pattern is what makes some of these cats so stunning. Tabby (classic, mackerel, or ticked) can complement the coat with brown, silver, or red designs.

Bicolor Maine Coons are those where a base color gets extra sparkle from white markings like Tuxedo, Harlequin, or Van. My personal favorites are the smoke-shaded cats (especially black and/or silver), which is what happens when their top coat looks solid, but their roots seem to turn silver or white when they move. They’re the cutest optical illusion!

Whatever colors Maine Coon kittens get, I’m loving all the autumn babes who give pumpkin-spiced mochas a run for their money!

Sanctuary Wolves’ ‘Interpretation of a Howl’ Is Like Two Grannies Chatting About Noisy Kids Next Door

Sat, 09/05/2026 - 7:55pm

For wolves, howling is an important way to communicate. But two sanctuary wolves, named Vesper and James, apparently have a lot more to say than a simple howl.

The pair recently started up what sounds like a rather lively conversation. But in between their long, beautiful howls is a series of little “rah-rah-rah” noises that make them sound less like majestic predators and more like two grannies sitting on the front porch discussing the noisy kids down the street.

And in this case, those noisy neighbors appear to be the coyotes calling in the background.

Check out Vesper and James’ hilarious exchange in this video shared by @apexprotectionproject, a Wolf & Wolfdog Sanctuary in Acton, CA:

View this post on Instagram

I can’t get over the back-and-forth between these two. One starts, the other chimes in, and before long they seem to be having an entire conversation about whatever is happening beyond the fence.

Related: Alaskan Bear Cub and Wolf Pup Forgot They’re Rivals in Rare and Beautiful Moment

And apparently, I’m not the only one who found the exchange interesting. The moment I played the video, both of my dogs stopped what they were doing to listen. They hear pet videos coming from my computer all the time and generally couldn’t care less, but these sounds got their attention. They seemed genuinely puzzled about where the voices were coming from and what exactly they were hearing.

Maybe Vesper and James were discussing something far more interesting in the canine world than any of us realize.

You can hear more of beautiful Vesper’s conversations in this August 27 Instagram post:

View this post on Instagram Why Wolves Howl and How Their Calls Differ From Coyotes

There really is a difference between the voices in the video, too. According to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, both wolves and coyotes use howls to communicate, but wolf howls tend to be longer, lower, and more consistent in pitch. Coyotes are more likely to add the higher-pitched yipping, yelping, and excited sounds you can hear coming from the background here.

That contrast somehow makes Vesper and James’ little exchange even funnier. The coyotes are carrying on in the distance, the wolves clearly have thoughts about it, and suddenly this sanctuary sounds an awful lot like a neighborhood where everyone knows everyone else’s business.

And judging by my dogs’ reaction, whatever these two were discussing must have been very interesting gossip.

Labrador Retriever Discovers the Tastiest Way To Beat the Summer Heat

Sat, 09/05/2026 - 7:20pm

Long, hot summer days call for creative ways to stay cool and reduce our chances of overheating. Dogs appreciate a little relief from the heat and humidity just like we do, and when that comes in the form of a sweet treat, well, all the better.

In this video, we meet a Labrador Retriever who has figured out the best way to cool off with an extra-refreshing treat. Judging by how excited he is, he’s probably got a tip we’ll all want to take note of.

TikTok user Lore & Thiago (@loreandthiago) shared a video of a cute Labrador Retriever named Thiago enjoying the summer sun outside. But he’s making sure not to overheat because he’s got the best summertime treat, the tastiest way to keep cool, and we’re all a little jealous.

In the comments, people shared their feelings about Thiago and his tasty, cool summertime popsicle. A lot of fun sticker emojis fit the vibe, along with hearts, smiley faces, and giggles.

In other videos, we can see Thiago staying cool this summer by splashing around in a kiddie pool in the backyard, filled with cold water right from the hose. He’s being a silly guy, trying to dig to the bottom, but even just submerging his paws in the water will help keep him from overheating.

How Frozen Treats Can Help Dogs Stay Cool

Thiago is having the best summer, between the ice-cold popsicle and the water splash pool he gets all to himself. According to experts, having frozen treats is a great way to help pups stay cool in the summer.

The American Kennel Club shares several ways to DIY frozen treats to help keep your pup cool when the weather outside is hot and humid. They explain that you can give these treats in moderation, adjusting to your dog’s specific health and caloric needs, and always have fun.

The club shares that you can turn any dog-safe liquid into a frozen treat, like an ice cube. Stock up on those trays and freeze your pup’s favorite no-salt-added chicken or beef broth, or add in a piece of blueberry or liver in water. This will help cool down their body temperature and give them a delicious treat to keep them interested.

Another option is a soft-serve treat, like pup cups you can get at the coffee shop, or you can blend unsweetened yogurt with dog-safe fruits like cantaloupe or watermelon.

Having these treats is a fun tradition for your pet, something they can look forward to when the temperatures start to climb. And take it from Thiago, they’re a big hit!

Nosy Parrot Breaks His Branch and Can’t Believe Mom Would Do That to Him

Sat, 09/05/2026 - 7:00pm

If I could have any pet in the world, it would either be a puppy-sized elephant or, if I have to stay within reason, a parrot. A big parrot, like a Macaw or a Cockatoo! I’ve always wanted one, but to be honest, I don’t think I’d actually enjoy having one.

So, I’ll just watch videos of people who do love having them. For example, one woman recently rescued a Blue-and-Gold Macaw, and he’s one of the most handsome, yet also one of the sassiest, parrots you’ll ever see:

@andreac2350 ♬ original sound – Deo M. Divinagracia – RetroSibs 🇵🇭🇵🇭🇵🇭

Andrea is so kind to have taken this bird in. His name is Levi, and he’s 9 years old. She just took him in last month, but in that time, he’s already settling in very nicely. Luckily, she has plenty of experience with parrots, including a Scarlet Macaw!

Levi doesn’t do a lot of interacting with the other birds in his home, but that’s okay. He gets plenty of interaction with his mom, and he spends a lot of time outside of his cage, typically breaking things for fun and then blaming his mom for it.

Related: Little Girl Helps Disabled Parrot ‘Feel Like She’s Flying’ and She’s So Happy and Flappy

He’s a little weird, but I love it. Being rescued looks good on him! He has all of the snacks he could ever want, including snacks he uses to scratch all of his itches…

@andreac2350 ♬ Jelly Fish Jam – Techno Mix – Da Fokin

I can honestly say that I have never seen anything like this before in my life. I love it! Honestly, I feel like it works: crackers typically have salt on them. Great for exfoliating!

Parrots Love to Break Things

Levi is not the only parrot in the world who thinks it’s fun to break things around his house. All parrots tend to have this habit, even smaller ones! It can just seem like more destruction because he’s so big.

Passakorn_14 / Getty Images

Parrots are very destructive. They love to shred things with their talons and beaks: it’s something they do often in the wild, and a necessary enrichment activity in captivity. Shredding things allows them to:

  • Focus on something.
  • Naturally keep their beaks and claws down.
  • Gather materials to nest with.

It’s a natural behavior, and if they aren’t specifically given things to shred, they’ll find them. Luckily for Levi, he gets all of the destructible stuff he could ever want, and more!

‘Possum-Looking’ Stray Cat Gets American Girl ‘Apartment’ Like a Royal Princess

Sat, 09/05/2026 - 6:55pm

Some cats really hit the jackpot when they find their forever family by chance. I like to think that some of them, the really clever kitties, seek out those they know will give them the life of luxury all cats deserve.

One stray cat who bears a resemblance to a possum chose his people very wisely. Now, he has his very own “apartment” all decked out in the cutest American Girl decor!

@shannon.loy2

My 3-year-old said absolutely NOT, this man will not be living in poverty. 😂😭🐱 From the streets to fully furnished in 4 days. #StrayKitten #RescueKitten #KittenTok #CatTok #FosterFail

♬ original sound – Noah

Thanks to his new mom, @shannon.loy2, Floki’s life has drastically improved, and that’s an understatement! The American Girl setup includes a Barbie-pink living room and bedroom set up with a TV, blankets, and accessories that Floki is absolutely loving. This is everything a cool luxury apartment needs—especially because this stray cat pays $0 rent and has a full-time staff!

Related: Free-Spirited Stray Cat Chases Butterflies and Accidentally Finds Her New Mom

Considering where he was days prior, this precious boy deserves it all. The sweet boy was found under Shannon’s car dehydrated, hungry, and flea-ridden—actually looking a little like a possum. After making sure he wasn’t microchipped, he became part of the shelter’s system while his new foster family indulges his every whim.

“At this point, I’m not sure if we rescued him or he secured a sugar family,” Mom joked, and I think we all know the answer to that! She added, “It’s been 5 days, and he’s already forgotten his humble beginnings.” That much is clear:

@shannon.loy2

UPDATE: Apparently rescuing him wasn’t enough. He needed housing, furniture, entertainment, AND a full-time staff. 😂😭🐱 It’s been 5 days and he’s already forgotten his humble beginnings. #StrayKitten #RescueKitten #KittenTok #CatTok #FunnyCats

♬ original sound – Noah

The housing updates keep getting better and better. For the latest view of Floki’s digs, Shannon shared another update you can watch here. Don’t show this to my cats or I’m in big trouble.

How You Can Help a Stray Cat in Your Own Neighborhood

If, like Shannon, you’ve ever found a stray cat chilling near your house, there are a few ways you can help, depending on their situation. If they’re friendly enough for you to get near them, check for tags or a collar (or a microchip at the vet), but if they’re part of a feral colony and skittish, a local Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program will ensure they’re safe and healthy, without disrupting their life outdoors.

To help rescue cats who are injured, young, or in need of medical attention, contact a local rescue group or shelter and look into low-cost spay/neuter clinics, which are usually offered for strays. Even if you’re not able to officially adopt the cat, getting community support, like from a shelter, comes with the added help of finding them a home.

For the true-blue stray cats who refuse to be indoors, make sure they have fresh water and report any sightings to shelter and rescue groups. They won’t all get such a dramatic, rags-to-riches American Girl ending like Floki did, but they still deserve some version of a happy ending.

Lovable, Affectionate Shepherd Lab Mix Has Been Waiting Over 5 Years for a Forever Home, and It's Heartbreaking

Sat, 09/05/2026 - 6:10pm

Some dogs in shelters end up being repeatedly passed over for no apparent reason. These precious pooches wait to be chosen, yet continue to be overlooked despite having so much to offer. The longer they wait, the more they withdraw and lose hope.

Mikey the German Shepherd mix has been in a foster home of Lucky Dog Animal Rescue for over five years (you read that right — FIVE YEARS). This canine cutie would make a wonderful addition to any family, but no one has given him a chance.

View this post on Instagram

The Instagram post from @not.one.more.day shared details on Mikey and revealed the exact shocking number of days he’s been overlooked for adoption.

“Mikey has been waiting 1,949 days for his forever home,” the caption read. “And if you ask us, that is 1,949 days WAY too long for a dog this special!”

Described as the “the ultimate dog’s dog,” Mikey loves being around other fur babies of all ages and sizes. According to Mikey’s bio, he’s approximately 7 to 8 years old and is considered a warm and friendly social butterfly.

“When he’s not busy making friends, Mikey is a total sweetheart,” the post continued. “He’s cuddly, great with new people, has good house and crate manners, and knows his sit, down, come, and especially his name — his recall is excellent!”

Mikey Shouldn’t Wait Any Longer

When rescue and shelter dogs aren’t adopted within a certain amount of time, potential pet parents assume there is some sort of health or behavioral problem. This inaccurate perception creates a stigma around the dog, where they stop even being considered by adopters even though they would make wonderful pets.

Lucky Dog Animal Rescue doesn’t want Mikey to be overlooked any longer and is committed to finding him the loving home he deserves. He doesn’t require much — just some love with a big yard to play in and some daily activities to fully thrive.

Related: Shelter’s ‘Longest Resident’ Dog Meets New Dad and It’s ‘Love at First Sight’

“Mikey is looking for a home with a fenced-in yard where he can enjoy plenty of enrichment and mental stimulation,” the caption noted. “He’s a working shepherd who thrives when his brain has something to do!”

The post concluded with a final plea for someone to open their heart to this very special dog: “After nearly 5 1/2 years of waiting, Mikey deserves someone who will see all the amazing things that make him Mikey the Goober and give him the chance to finally be home.”

Ragdoll Cat ‘Stealing Kittens’ From Her Sister Is Such a Cool Aunt

Sat, 09/05/2026 - 6:00pm

Ragdoll kittens are my second favorite breed of kittens in the whole world, with the first being Maine Coons. There’s just something special about their tiny, fluffy bodies and their little baby paws! I just adore them.

Apparently, I’m not the only one. When one Ragdoll cat had a litter of kittens recently, her sister couldn’t leave them alone! They might be freshly birthed, but that didn’t stop her from going and getting some snuggles from them:

@pearlsragdolls

The mama cats are back in the kitten room. We’ll see if Penny keeps the kittens in the box this time

♬ original sound – Pearl’s Ragdolls

Pearl’s Ragdolls are all raised in her house, and they’re all one big family. Everybody takes care of everybody, so when a cat has a litter of kittens, she’s often grateful to have the extra paws. When it comes to Penny, there’s basically no stopping her.

These kittens are a little older now, which is why their mama is okay with Auntie Penny picking them up and moving them around. For the first few weeks, they tend to be very defensive of their babies, even from cats they’ve known for years.

Related: Rare ‘Chocolate-Covered’ Ragdoll Cat Is the Most Perfect Boy

Penny just loves these babies. They don’t go anywhere she’s not following, even if they’re just going over to have a snuggle with Pearl! She wants to make sure they’re safe wherever they go:

@pearlsragdolls

Penny wanted to be right next to me while I cuddled with the kittens

♬ original sound – Pearl’s Ragdolls

She’s such a cool color, too. I love everything about her, but most of all, I love how devoted she is to her family. She wants everyone to be happy and healthy!

Raising Kittens Is a Team Effort

In the wild, there are a ton of species that raise their babies completely alone. They don’t want help, and if you try to, you’ll be lucky to escape with your life! Cats aren’t quite like that, though, at least in most cases.

Getty Images Esin Deniz

Cats will take care of other kittens (and even other species) frequently, from watching over and protecting them to snuggling and even nursing them when needed. This has a lot of benefits for both Mama and her babies, including:

  • Reducing stress.
  • Improving social skills.
  • Providing extra protection from predators.

Clearly, the mama of this litter of Ragdoll kittens cares a lot about her babies, but she trusts Penny, too. Trust, if she didn’t, those babies would not be going anywhere!

It’s no secret that dogs love to play. And as fun as it is for us to play with our furry friends, it’s nice when they can entertain themselves while you’re not around as well. That’s where toys like the Boots & Barkley Bat Plush Dog Toy come in handy.

New to Target and retailing for just $4.99, this cuddly and crinkly plush find is here just in time for spooky season, offering your pet something they can enjoy while you chow down on Halloween candy. Perfect for dogs of all ages and ready to complement your seasonal decor, this adorable little bat is an easy way to give your pet some festive action of their own.

If you’re already a big fan of Halloween, the Boots & Barkley Bat Plush Dog Toy is probably already a no-brainer at first look. But when you get into its playful details, it clearly becomes much more than a cute little toy. Best of all, its $5 price tag means it doesn’t break the bank, so even if you’ve got a tough chewer at home, you can easily pick a second one up without worrying about spending too much.

Made of polyester, the toy offers a soft, fluffy feel and is designed to look like a playful black bat, complete with wing, face and ear details in varying shades of pink and purple. With hidden crinkle material throughout the wings and body for extra fun, it also measures 7 inches long with a 14 inch wingspan, making it super easy to pick up and carry around the house, play fetch with or cuddle.

Related: This ‘Genius’ Pet Essential Has Pet Parents Snatching Up Every Color

While shoppers are still discovering this new arrival in stores and online, one early reviewer offered some helpful insight for pet parents considering it for their pups. Calling the bat “so cute,” they shared that their dog had a field day tearing into it, with the toy lasting only one play session before the stuffing ended up on the floor. With that in mind, it’s worth reserving it for dogs who prefer cuddling and fetching over chewing, while more enthusiastic chewers may need a backup just in case.

In any case, at $5 a pop, snatching one (or two) up hardly breaks the bank, and it can even serve as creative Halloween decor around the house at the same time. Just be sure you snatch it up fast, as it’s only a matter of time before other Halloween lovers grab it for their furry friends. And if you need more spooky season inspiration, why not check out Target’s spooky cat condo and haunted cat house while you’re there?

This Orange Cat Looks Just Like Ed Sheeran and We Can’t Get Over It

Sat, 09/05/2026 - 4:00pm

I, like everyone else in the world, love orange cats. They’re hilarious, and most of us grew up with Garfield. Who doesn’t love Garfield? Not every orange cat is just like Garfield, though… There are plenty of orange cats who look just like famous gingers!

For example, this orange cat looks exactly like Ed Sheeran. She’s just a baby, but already, she has a lot of personality, and soon enough, she’ll have a thriving music career. Just you wait!

@malpluscats

Benedict says he’s the only baby in this house 👀

♬ original sound – mallory brooks

Benedict and Dorothy are too cute together, even when they fight. Both of them actually look a little bit like Ed Sheeran. Benedict is still getting used to having a baby sister: he was an only child for a long time. Now, Dorothy is here, and she’s stealing the spotlight.

It’s really the orange markings on her face that have her looking the most like Ed Sheeran. Back when he was just getting started, he used to keep some of his hair in his face, and his hairline looked almost exactly like hers.

Related: Orange Maine Coon Gives Birth to a Litter of Pumpkin Spice Babies

Being Ed Sheeran’s four-legged twin isn’t the only interesting thing about her, though. Dorothy is the world’s biggest fan of snuggling. She wants to spend all of her time with her mom, no matter what, and when she can’t, her mom puts her in a sock to keep her warm:

@malpluscats

i mean, would u not??

♬ original sound – mallory brooks

I mean, it works! She’s fostering a few of Dorothy’s littermates right now, and keeping them in socks just seems to help keep them calm. I’m glad they’ve found something that works!

Are Orange Cats Different?

One of the main things people love to say about orange cats, even when they’re only partially orange, is that they’re not like other cats. They claim they’re crazier and that having an orange cat is harder than having other colors.

Anastasiia Voloshko / Getty Images

Orange cats are no different from other cats in terms of temperament, and anecdotes that say they are are largely a combination of other factors as well as confirmation bias. While being orange doesn’t make them crazier than other cats, a few things might, like:

  • Age
  • Breed
  • Training
  • Environment

Younger cats with less training and life experience often misbehave and act “crazier than older, more stable cats. Not that Benedict is any indication of that, since he tried to fight his sister for just being next to him…

Terrified Lab Beagle Learns To Trust Foster Mom—'He's Getting Braver Every Day'

Sat, 09/05/2026 - 10:55am

All dogs deserve the chance to experience a loving home with caring humans, especially all those who’ve endured more trauma and heartbreak than we may ever know. Back in May 2026, the Beagle Freedom Project rescued more than 1,500 lab Beagles from a Wisconsin breeding facility. One of those sweet pups, Elroy, is healing with the love and patience of a foster home, and he’s making so much progress (you might want to grab the tissues for this one):

@hera_malinois

Watching him become a little braver every day has been the sweetest thing 🥹

♬ All She Wrote – Goodluck Rylie

Thanks to his foster mom (via @hera_malinois), Elroy found a soft place to land, but learning to trust humans again has been a slow process. Over the last few months, the fearful, shut-down Beagle who Mom describes as “resilient” has been taking small steps to find his place in the big, scary world, and so far, he’s doing amazing.

“Watching him become a little braver every day has been the sweetest thing,” she captioned the post, and it’s clear Elroy is trying his best to take this second chance at life and make something of it—in his own time.

Related: Beagle and Kitten’s Growing Love Story Is Truly One for the Ages

In multiple other posts, Elroy’s mom noted that even with her foster experience, nothing prepared her for a dog like him. She worried she couldn’t be all he needed and that she might fail him. But then something wonderful started to happen.

“Slowly… like REALLY slowly… Elroy started proving me wrong,” she wrote. “This journey has made me question myself and whether I was meant to foster more times than I can count. But Elroy reminded me why I started.”

To better understand just how far Elroy has come, here’s a look at the sweet Beagle during his early days of freedom:

@hera_malinois

If you’re fostering or considering adopting a fearful, shut down dog, please remember this: They don’t always show you who they are right away. Sometimes you have to wait. And wait. And celebrate the tiniest things that other people might not even notice. Elroy has reminded us that you can’t rush trust. You can only watch it grow. And sometimes, the dog you thought might never change is simply a dog you haven’t gotten to know yet. 🤍

♬ Original Sound – TikTok Advertiser How To Help Former Lab Beagles Like Elroy

It’s unfortunate and heartbreaking to think of all the good boys and girls being subjected to lab testing, but thanks to the diligent efforts of advocates and rescues, many of these Beagles are well on their way to healing.

The Beagle Freedom Project has helped many Beagles like Elroy find foster homes where they’re learning what it means to be more than a test subject. As the #1 dog breed for families with children, these Beagles will, no doubt, become the best companion to families willing to be the hero they need.

If you can’t foster or adopt, you can still help former lab dogs like Elroy by donating to rescue Beagles’ care. They all deserve a happy ending.

Golden Retriever Puppy Named 'Buttercup' Looks Like 'A Whole Chunky Muffin'

Sat, 09/05/2026 - 10:10am

I think everyone agrees that puppies are completely irresistible. From their cloud-like fluffy fur and perfectly round bellies to their oversized paws and insatiable curiosity, puppies charm everyone who crosses their path. Some pups pack extra cute when they have an especially full-figured physique, like a little roly-poly plush toy.

Buttercup is a 6-week-old Golden Retriever puppy who is definitely more voluptuous than her littermates, making her all the more adorable.

@goldenmnv

Buttercup update: still chonk. still perfect. Our girl was the biggest of Maizey’s girls + the first to officially join the 3 lb club… and now look at her at SIX WEEKS OLD. The fluff. The rolls. The personality. We simply cannot handle her. Who remembers baby Buttercup?! #chonk #goldenretrieverpuppy #fluffball

♬ original sound – Golden Retriever Family Pups

In the TikTok from @goldnmnv, Buttercup stared into the camera looking gorgeous as always. Her velvety, floofy fur shrouded her sweet little face, giving her a sort of stuffed animal look. Buttercup’s tongue was sticking out in full fur baby mode, and her floppy ears completed the perfect puppy picture.

“That’s our big chonk, Buttercup,” the pup’s mom explained. “She’s always giving the side eye. You know we’re talking about you, chonk?”

Buttercup demonstrated that adorable side-eye look and gave her mom a bit of a stare down. She could tell she was the topic of discussion but didn’t seem to mind. Buttercup’s mom posted some details on the precious puppy.

“Buttercup update: still chonk, still perfect,” the caption shared. “Our girl was the biggest of Maizey’s girls and the first to officially join the 3-pound club… and now look at her at SIX WEEKS OLD. The fluff. The rolls. The personality. We simply cannot handle her.”

Followers fell head over heels for Buttercup and thought she wore her full figure well:

  • “She is cuddle-sized!!” one raved.
  • “She’s not chunky! She’s just got a lot of floof. Honestly as her pawturny she requires more treats and pets,” another joked.
  • “I’m convinced a snuggle with that cuddle puddle would solve so many problems for me,” a follower shared.
  • “She’s a chunk of muffin!!” someone remarked, prompting Buttercup’s mom to reply, “A whole chunky muffin! Buttercup is wearing that title with pride!”
What’s a Healthy Weight for a Golden Retriever Puppy?

A puppy’s weight in their first few months of life often depends on their heritage. A male puppy usually takes after their father, and a female tends to develop like their mother. A puppy’s size compared to their littermates can also determine how big they will be at adulthood.

Golden Retriever puppies steadily gain weight as they grow and tend to fall into certain weight categories, with females weighing a little less:

  • 0-4 weeks: Less than 5 pounds.
  • 8-12 weeks: 10 to 22 pounds.
  • 4-6 months: 30 to 44 pounds.
  • 7-12 months: 48 to 68 pounds.

Golden Retrievers reach full growth at approximately 24 months and tip the scales between 65 to 80 pounds. Buttercup will probably be on the higher end of this range and totally rock it.

Great Dane Is So Big, He Makes a Dachshund Puppy Look Like an Ant

Sat, 09/05/2026 - 10:00am

Great Danes are one of the largest dog breeds out there. If you have one and still somehow have room for another dog, I’m amazed by you, because I don’t even know where I’d put just one of them. As a small-to-medium dog mom, it just boggles my mind that dogs like this even exist.

Recently, one Great Dane got a new brother. His mom decided one dog was not enough, as we all do, and then decided on a Dachshund. There’s one thing that really makes this stand out, though: the Great Dane is so big that the Dachshund puppy legitimately looks like a little ant:

The Cotswolds Family made a very interesting choice here, but I love it. The Dachshund puppy just arrived in her new home in this video: she’s about 10 weeks old, and her name is Bemby. The video is a little bit of a throwback, but to be honest, she hasn’t gotten much bigger.

Bemby was not afraid of Axel, the Great Dane, at all. She was immediately running around him, trying to get him to play, and she never stopped. If a Great Dane and a Dachshund aren’t enough, they also have a Poodle, chickens, and other animals, too. I’m simultaneously jealous and exhausted on their behalf.

Bemby is just so tiny. She’s always supervised when she’s playing with Axel, but it’s almost impossible to understand how little she is. When they caught a video of her perched on his leg like a little parrot, you could really see how big he was:

This is crazy. I love it, and Axel is a very gentle boy, but I just know that I would get so scared when they were playing together. I get scared when my dogs play together, and they’re all the same size!

How to Manage Dogs With a Size Difference

If you’re thinking of getting a dog who’s significantly different in size from another dog or even a cat in your home, you should be careful, but it’s certainly possible. Just look at Bemby and Axel: the two of them are totally best friends!

Safety is key when you have dogs of different sizes. Often, the bigger pup doesn’t really know their own strength, and things like over-excitement or a sudden scare can be catastrophic. If you’re in this situation, you should:

  • Make sure the larger dog is very well trained.
  • Supervise them whenever they’re interacting.
  • Always correct behaviors: if the smaller dog provokes the bigger one, they may accidentally lash out and hurt them.

It’s definitely possible to house them safely together. Luckily for Bemby and Axel’s mom, they would never consider hurting each other!
