Black Cat Looks So Much Like Toothless From 'How to Train Your Dragon,' It's Uncanny
I've always thought my Pug mix looks like baby Simba from The Lion King. He has the same honey-hued coloring, muscular (albeit a bit fleshier) build, and sassy personality as the spunky lion cub, making him a mirror image of the famous Disney character.
Squid the black cat also seems to have an iconic twin from the silver screen that starred in a beloved animated trilogy.
@mrecob13squid definitely misses me making videos of him all the time 🙂↕️ #squid #cat #fyp #catsoftiktok
♬ původní zvuk - 🤍The TikTok from @mrecob13 featured a close-up of Squid as she stared into the camera with her yellow-green eyes wide open. Her mouth formed a sort of smile/sneer combo, where her teeth looked like fangs. Squid's face morphed into dramatic expressions that could easily make movie magic.
The pretty kitty was a dead ringer for Toothless from the 2010 hit film, How to Train Your Dragon. Toothless the black dragon stole the show with his loyalty to Hiccup, the Viking who found him. The movie launched a franchise with two sequels, with fans falling in love with the basilisk beauty who had a heart of gold.
Followers posted pictures of Toothless in the comments to show the similarities and raved over the feline fur baby's unique look.
"I love Squid so much — she has such a silly little smile," one gushed.
"Beautiful baby vampire kitty," another remarked.
"Reminds me of Toothless," a fan noted.
"Gosh look at those beautiful lil teeth," someone commented.
Why Black Cats Are Less Likely to Be AdoptedMost have heard of the superstition that black cats are bad luck. This myth still exists today, with potential pet parents often passing by black cats because of the stereotype and lowering the odds of adoption for these cats.
Black cats are as loving as other felines, and just need a chance to prove that they bring joy to a family rather than misfortune.

Like Squid, most black cats have yellow eyes, adding to their mysterious appearance. Kittens are usually born with blue eyes, with the color starting to change between 4 and 8 weeks old. Their eyes reach a permanent color by 3 to 4 months old.
Squid proves that black cats are true showstoppers and can even resemble movie stars.

Rare ‘Rainbow' Ragdoll Cat Is the Happiest Girl in the World
At this point in my life, I've probably seen more cats than anyone else on the planet. I just feel like I'm always seeing them, and to be honest, it's pretty hard to impress me with cats anymore. It takes one really special kitty!
One that will take my breath away every single time is this Ragdoll cat: she's the coolest cat I have ever seen in my life. She's equal parts beautiful and just a genuinely cool cat, and everyone needs to see her:

Pebbles is almost 6 years old, though from some angles, she still looks like a kitten. She has huge blue eyes and a patchwork coat that legitimately looks like a living work of art. The first time I saw her, I didn't even think she was real!

Chimera Cats Are Super RareA true Chimera cat is hard to come by. Some breeders may use it as a marketing tactic, and shelters might have it listed for certain cats, but true Chimerism is rare.

Chimerism occurs when two fertilized embryos fuse together, essentially fusing two cats into one cat. This happens early on in the pregnancy, and though there are some signs that your cat might be a Chimera, the only way to confirm is through genetic testing.
Pebbles was tested, and all of the signs are there for her, too. She has:
- A perfectly split face.
- A matching split down her back.
- Opposite colored spots on either half of her face.
- Different colored paws.
Don't get scammed if you're looking into getting a Chimera cat: ask for genetic testing results. Or, at least, be prepared to test the cat yourself!

7 Surprising Realities About British Shorthair Cats
British Shorthairs are easy to fall in love with at first sight. With their plush coats, round faces, and teddy bear-like appearance, they're one of the most beloved cat breeds in the world. But many first-time pet parents quickly discover that a British Shorthair's personality and behavior can be quite different from what they expected. To help you learn more about these felines, we rounded up seven sweet and quirky relaties of having a British Shorthair that might surprise you. That way, if you're thinking of adding one to your family, you'll know how to bond with them and care for them since each cat breed is different.
"These cute cats can be affectionate, loyal and deeply bonded to their people, but they usually show it in quiet, dignified ways.” veterinarian Dr. Sarah Wooten. “Because of that, if you get a British Shorthair, you may be shocked to learn that their personality is often more understated than clingy, like other cats."
Overall, if you're wondering if British Shorthairs are good pets and a good match for you, veterinarians say understanding the breed's unique temperament is key. From their independent streak to how they show affection, below are seven things to know before getting a British Shorthair so you can be the best cat parent, according to vets.

What First-Time Owners Should Know About British Shorthairs Two adorable teddy-bear-like cats that are some of the most beloved family breeds.British Shorthairs are adored, but if you've never had a cat before, you may not know what it's like living with them. Understanding their breed-specific traits before you bring one home can help you bond with them and show them how much you love them.
They’re Affectionate, Just Not Always Lap CatsWhat's it like owning a British Shorthair? Many people assume a cat with such a cuddly appearance will happily spend hours curled up in a lap, but experts say that’s not always the case.
“They prefer sitting beside their person, following them from room to room or quietly sharing space,” Wooten says. “This can surprise first-time owners who expect a cat that looks like a stuffed animal to want constant cuddling.”
While British Shorthairs are affectionate cats, they often prefer closeness without constant handling, choosing to stay nearby rather than being held or carried.
“One other surprising reality is that many British Shorthairs don’t love being picked up or carried around,” she continues. “They’re sturdy cats, and some tolerate handling well, but many prefer to keep all four paws on the ground.”
For many new pet parents, this becomes part of their charm as the breed’s quiet companionship is expressed more through presence than physical clinginess, reinforcing their unique British Shorthair personality.
They Love Company, but on Their Own TermsOne sweet thing you should know before getting a British Shorthair is that they are devoted companions, but they prefer to call the shots.
“British Shorthairs tend to be independent and self-possessed,” Wooten explains. “They may enjoy being near their people, but they often want control over when and how interaction happens.”
That independence shouldn’t be mistaken for aloofness, though. “British Shorthairs are loyal, devoted companions who are affectionate in an undemanding way,” says Dr. Matthew Murdoch, veterinarian and director of Ferndale Kennels and Travel Pet Relocation Services.
Instead of constantly seeking attention, these indoor cats often happiest relaxing nearby and keeping you company. “It’s a very understated, British type of love,” Murdoch adds.

They’re Surprisingly Low-DramaWhen it comes to British Shorthair characteristics, vets say people are shocked to learn they are pretty calm cats! Therefore, if you've lived with a highly energetic cat that treats your home like a personal obstacle course, a British Shorthair may come as a welcome surprise.
“They’re often less frantic or mischievous than some more high-energy breeds,” Wooten says. “This can surprise people who are used to cats that climb curtains, knock everything off shelves or need constant entertainment to stay out of trouble.”
One of the most appealing British Shorthair traits is their calm, easygoing temperament. While they still enjoy playtime, they're generally content to relax near their favorite people and aren't known for causing household chaos. For many first-time owners, this laidback nature is one reason British Shorthairs are considered such good pets and a great fit for quieter homes.
They Can Be PlayfulOne aspect of British Shorthair behavior that surprises many new pet parents is that they have a playful side. In fact, because British Shorthairs are so relaxed, it’s easy for owners to assume they don’t need much stimulation. However, experts say they need regular opportunities to exercise both their minds and bodies.
“They still benefit from daily interactive play, puzzle feeders, climbing spaces, scratching posts and environmental enrichment,” Wooten explains. “A quiet cat isn't the same thing as a cat who doesn’t need engagement.”
Providing enrichment activities can also help prevent boredom-related behaviors, such as scratching furniture.
They Tend to Gain Weight EasilyDid you know British Shorthair cats can easily gain weight if their routine isn’t managed carefully? It's true! Though sine their naturally round, stocky build can make it tricky for owners to notice small changes over time, especially because they tend to look cute and cuddly even when they’ve put on a few extra pounds.
“Portion control, regular play and routine veterinary weight checks are important so ‘chonky and cute’ doesn’t become a health problem,” Wooten states.
Murdoch agrees and adds, “As a vet, I feel their weight gain is one of the biggest health issues to watch,” he explains. “This breed is fairly relaxed and inactive. In turn, this makes them more likely to gain weight compared to other cat breeds.”
Their Coat Is Easier to Maintain Than It LooksDon't let their fur fool you. While caring for their pretty coat is a big part of being their pet parent, it's not as hard to groom them as many people think. It just takes a little time commitment to keep them looking and feeling their best.
“While their plush coats are adorable, they need help removing loose hair because their coat is dense," Wooten shares. "Their coat benefits from regular brushing, especially during shedding seasons."
They Take Time to Warm Up to New PeopleBritish Shorthairs are often deeply affectionate with their families, but they may take a little longer to warm up to new people, which many cat lovers may not realize.
“This can surprise owners who expect an outgoing, social cat based on the breed’s sweet expression,” Wooten says. “Many British Shorthairs prefer to observe first and interact later once they feel comfortable.”
Rather than being unfriendly, this reserved nature is simply part of their personality. They tend to build trust slowly, choosing familiarity and routine over instant connection.
“A British Shorthair’s personality will also be shaped by genetics, early socialization, health, environment and how respectfully people interact with them,” Wooten concludes.
For many cat parents, this slower approach to bonding is part of what makes the relationship feel so rewarding once trust is earned.

Enormous Orange Maine Coon With Giant Paws Has Even Bigger Feelings for His Dad
People always talk about how the smallest paw prints leave the biggest marks on our hearts.
Clearly they've never met a Maine Coon.
Because these cats don't leave tiny paw prints. They leave what appear to be bear tracks.
@dieselthemainecoonIf you've ever been chosen by a cat, you know exactly what I mean. #fyp #cat #catsoftiktok #mainecoon #bigcats
♬ Forever Young - AlphavilleThe sweet video was shared by the TikTok account for @Dieselthemainecoon and shows Diesel, a magnificent orange Maine Coon, being cradled in his dad's arms while making biscuits and soaking up every ounce of affection he can get.
The caption reads, "The smallest paw prints leave the biggest marks on our heart," which feels slightly inaccurate considering Diesel's paws appear to be roughly the size of dinner plates.
If you've ever been chosen by a cat, you know exactly what the caption means though.

And once they're in a loving mood, there is no leaving. There is no getting up. There is only accepting your fate.
Maine Coons are aggressively affectionate.
It's basically like being loved by a lion.
The comments section was filled with fellow Maine Coon fans who completely understood the assignment.
"There's no greater love than the true love of a kitty!" one person wrote.
Another viewer said, "Maine Coon cuddles hit different. It's like cuddling a baby tiger."
"What an honour to be so loved by a cat. How lucky," another commenter shared.
Others couldn't get over Diesel's obvious devotion to his human dad.
"Tell us you're daddy's boy without telling us you're daddy's boy," one person joked.
Several viewers focused on his enormous size.
"Sir, that is not a cat, that is a lion," one person declared.
And another wrote, "His paws are gigantic wow look at those murder mittens!"
Honestly, I think Maine Coons know they're huge. They just don't understand why everyone keeps acting like 25 pounds of love should somehow require personal space.

Unlike some more independent breeds, Maine Coons often prefer being near their people and are famous for their dog-like personalities. Many cat parents say their Maine Coons love being involved in everything from watching television to supervising household chores.
Basically, they are giant fluffy roommates with no concept of boundaries.
Which, as a Maine Coon mom, I say with tremendous affection.

7 Dog Breeds That Can Sense Your Emotions
If you're searching for a dog that seems to understand your emotions, you're not alone. Some breeds are especially attuned to their owners, picking up on subtle changes in mood and offering support, companionship, or even a well-timed cuddle when it's needed most. These pups stand out from the pack because they are known for being emotional anchors through life's ups and downs. Curious what they are? We've rounded up seven empathetic dog breeds that always seem to know how you're feeling, according to experts.
After all, for many people, the ideal dog is more than just a pet—it's a loyal friend, trusted sidekick, and constant source of comfort. While every dog has its own personality, experts say certain breeds are especially known for forming deep bonds with their humans and being able to sense their needs and state of mind. These emotionally intuitive dogs come in all shapes and sizes, but they share an uncanny ability to connect with their people and offer comfort when it matters most.
While nothing is guaranteed, if you're looking for a dog that feels more like a companion than a pet, these expert-recommended breeds are a great place to start.

Labrador Retriever A loving Lab watching its owner while laying in the grass. It’s hardly shocking that the faithful and sweet Labrador Retriever ended up on this list as they are dogs that just get you. “Labradors are famous for being sociable and people-oriented,” says Aimee Warner, DVM, resident veterinarian at Waggel. “They are attuned to human cues and can respond to guidance well, especially when they are trained and socialized at an early age.”
This breed is eager to please and happy to bond with different family members, Warner explains. “You can see their sensitivity,” she adds. Labs do need plenty of exercise, so you’ll want to keep your pooch busy and active. “A well-raised, properly socialized and trained Lab can respond to the emotional vibe of the home,” Warner shares.
Breed Stats- Personality: Active, friendly, outgoing
- Height: 21.5-24.5 inches
- Weight: 55-80 pounds
- Lifespan: 11–13 years
When it comes to dog breeds that can sense human emotions, Poodle are one. These empathetic dog breeds have a sensitivity and sweetness that you won’t find in every canine.
“Poodles were bred to be water-retrieving dogs, meaning they had to work closely with, understand and bond with their humans,” says Chyrle Bonk, DVM, a veterinarian at Embrace Pet Insurance. “They also had to be intelligent in order to be properly trained for these jobs.” When you blend those traits together, the Poodle ends up being capable of understanding and responding well to the emotions of its humans, she says.
Breed Stats- Personality: Active, proud, smart
- Height: Over 15 inches
- Weight: 40-70 pounds
- Lifespan: 10–18 years

The Doberman Pinscher may look fierce at first glance, but these are dog breeds that can sense human emotions. “Since they were bred to work closely with people, Dobermans have become known to be emotionally attuned to their owners,” reveals Warner. “Changes in voice, body language, routine and mood can be perceived by these furry companions.”
Even though these are dogs that know how you’re feeling and make great pets, Warner notes they thrive with consistent and calm handling, making early and regular training a must. Just be sure to give your pup plenty of positive reinforcement—they’re sensitive, after all.
Breed Stats- Personality: Intuitive, loyal, fearless
- Height: 24-28 inches
- Weight: 60-100 pounds
- Lifespan: 10-12 years

Border Collies are dogs that can sense your mood changes as they are a herding dog. “That requires a high level of intelligence as they were bred to work closely with humans and other animals,” Bonk says. “Because of this, Border Collies are good at being in tune to their human’s feelings and responding to them appropriately.”
While these dogs so have a lot of energy, they’re also surprisingly gentle. So, to show your kind-hearted, empathetic dog you love them as much as they love you, it's crucial to keep your Border Collie busy when you’re not reading each other’s minds. That's why you should make sure to plan plenty of trips to the dog park, along with have lots of engaging dog puzzles for them to do.
Breed Stats- Personality: Energetic, affectionate, emotionally intelligent
- Height: 18-22 inches
- Weight: 30-55 pounds
- Lifespan: 12-15 years
If you're dreaming of finding a dog that act like emotional support companions, this sweet pup is a great match as they love to curl up in your lap and stay put. “Cavalier King Charles Spaniels love nothing more than being with their humans,” Bonk says. “Their main goal in life is to comfort their people and be the best companion they can.”
This lap dog is excellent at reading people so they always seem to know when you’re sad or happy. “A part of why they are a good companion is that they can recognize and respond to human emotions,” Bonk points out.
All-in-all, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is good with all people and even other pets, making this pup a friendly, emotionally-sensitive companion to all.
Breed Stats- Personality: Affectionate, gentle, friendly
- Height: 12-13 inches
- Weight: 13-18 pounds
- Lifespan: 12–15 years
The Vizsla has a hunting past, which is part of the reason why they are dog breeds that can comfort their owners naturally. “They had to develop an understanding of human emotions in order to respond to their hunting partners appropriately,” Bonk says. “This emotional intelligence in hunting has served them well as companion dogs, allowing them to read human emotions and act in response.”
As a result, your Vizsla is more likely to be down to comfort you, provide support and cuddle with you, making them a pet that will always be found by your side.
Breed Stats- Personality: Comforting, loving, smart
- Height: 21-24 inches
- Weight: 44-60 pounds
- Lifespan: 12–14 years
Playful, expressive, and full of energy, the Boxer is often the life of the party—but beneath that fun-loving personality is a surprisingly loving and caring side. “They are people-focused and can pick up on their owners’ moods, which is why they may respond with funny behavior and affection when they sense someone is in need of comfort.”
These dogs thrive on interaction, both physical and mental. Without enough stimulation, their energy can easily turn into restlessness. “They require regular exercise and consistent, positive training,” Warner explains.
Though because they’re so people-oriented, Boxers don’t do well with long periods alone. They’re at their happiest when they’re included in daily life—and close to the humans they love most.
Breed Stats- Personality: Caring, bright, fun-loving
- Height: 21.5-25 inches
- Weight: 50-80 pounds
- Lifespan: 10–12 years

Tiny Bunny Walks Into Rescue Cat's Life, and Something Unexpected Happens
Kathy Price and her husband rescued a cat they believed had lost her previous home. They cared for her, helped her learn to love, and watched her grow.
Now, that family brought new kittens to the world, and one little bunny. She didn't give birth to a bunny. But somehow, a bunny baby found himself in the litter of this cat, and she accepted him as her own.

As one commenter on the YouTube video said, "Baby bunnies are actually called kittens so maybe that bunny got the memo."
The Cat Gave Birth to Five Kittens, but Her Dad Counted SixKathy Price has spent years taking in stray cats. In the video, she talked about her house cat. Two months before she gave birth to five kittens, Kathy heard meowing outside her door. She opened the door and found a tortoiseshell cat running straight into the house.
Her cat gave birth on Memorial Day. She brought three orange kittens and two gray kittens into the world. One day, Kathy's husband asked how many kittens there were. She replied, "Five," to which he said, "I counted six."
The Surprise Hiding in the LitterWhen the family checked the litter, they noticed an extra baby nestled around the kittens. It was not another cat. It was a tiny wild bunny.
Nobody knows how the rabbit found his way into the nest. The family never saw him coming. What they saw was the mother's reaction.
Their house cat accepted him as if he was one of her own babies. She allowed him to stay among the kittens and cared for him alongside the rest of the litter.
Now, the family involves five kittens, one bunny, and one devoted cat mom.

Cats Are Better Mothers Than People RealizeCats have strong maternal instincts, especially during the weeks following birth. Their nurturing behavior is at its peak. Sometimes, they would accept kittens from another litter.
As one fan commented, "Not surprising. My barn cat had a litter after she adopted me and I put an orphaned week-old puppy with the litter. She raised him with the kittens and they still sleep together eight years later."
Looking for New HomesKathy hopes to find homes for all of the kittens. She wants to find a great home for the mother cat, saying, "She's been through a tragedy. Having her home disrupted. But she deserves to have a secure place, with or without kittens and bunnies."
Right now, the kittens are not ready to move. Once they are big enough, the bunny will go on to live in the wild.
These cats deserve a home. One fan said, "What a beautiful sweet kittie. I so hope she, her kittens, and the baby bunny all get adopted to good homes."

Rescue German Shepherd's Remarkable Transformation Proves the '3-3-3' Rule Really Works
A few weeks after adopting her rescue German shepherd, one dog mom found herself crying, bruised and wondering if she had made a terrible mistake. But after the effort she put into making him her perfect dog, she now calls him her "rescue buddy."
The journey from the dog that made her cry to the dog she has now is a familiar one to anyone who has adopted a rescue. Rescue dogs need time to settle. If you rush the process or give up too soon, you're likely missing out on a great dog.
🐶SIGN UP to get "pawsitivity" delivered right to your inbox with inspiring & entertaining stories about our furry & feathered friends🐾🐾
Trusting the 3-3-3 RuleThis dog mom adopted her rescue German shepherd in February, and in a Reddit post on r/germanshepherds, she confessed that things were rough at first.
She was in both physical and emotional pain. Then, she started obedience and rally classes, and slowly but surely something changed. It took time, but now she has a perfect companion by her side.
Four months later, her German shepherd sits quietly by her side while other dogs bark at him on the trail. They even went camping together.
The challenge with rescue dogs is that many families skip the step of letting the dog decompress. They want to go from "we adopted him" to heartwarming photos in a day. In reality, things do not happen that way.
This dog mom stuck it out. She didn't send him back, even though the thought had crossed her mind. She searched for help and trusted the process.

Understanding the 3-3-3 RuleAdoption shelters often emphasize the 3-3-3 rule. While some dogs take longer to calm down and settle into their new forever home, most of the time, the 3-3-3 holds true.
Simply put, the rule emphasizes that shelter dogs remain in survival mode for the first three days, then they learn the routine in the first three weeks, and build trust in the first three months.
In the first few days after moving to a new home, the dog finds themselves in unfamiliar territory. They meet new people and experience new smells, routines and sounds. Naturally, they can feel anxious, withdrawn and even reactive. They need those first three days to understand that they are safe.
Within the first three weeks, dogs begin to learn new routines: when they eat dinner, where they can sleep, how to get familiar with their new mom and dad, and how to earn rewards. During this period, dogs begin to show their true personalities as they feel more comfortable.
Transformation happens within three months, when the dog starts to feel at home. They become more confident and happily participate in training.
The dog mom on Reddit said her dog is an angel now, and puts it plainly for all future adopters, "The 3-3-3 rule really is accurate. Give it time. Get a trainer. The tears I shed in the end are worth it."
Rescue Parents Know the FeelingMany fans recognized the feeling of adopting a dog and then having their personality come out. It is all worth it in the end. One person said, "The effort you put into him comes back x1000. Best friend you'll ever have. Rescues just know and they show it to their person."
Another commented on the photos this dog mom shared, saying, "I can tell you're doing a great job by the way he looks at you in those pics. He trusts you. That's huge."
The lesson here is that the dogs we see today are not the dogs they were. This dog mom said she suspects her dog might have been abused before.
Whether that is true or not, many rescue dogs carry emotional scars before arriving at their forever home. It takes time, training and structure. Trust changes everything when dogs and their humans work on the relationship.
Rescue dogs don't need perfect owners. They need people willing to stick around long enough for them to believe they're finally home.

Bully breed dogs aren't typically aggressive or scary. They're actually the opposite and beloved by many who consider them:
- Affectionate
- Loyal
- Patient
- Gentle
- People-oriented
- Loving
- Amazing family pets, especially with children
With the right socialization and enough physical exercise to channel their energy reserves, American Bullies make some pretty stellar, fiercely devoted companions. When in doubt, offer them a blueberry, and you'll see they're just as kind and gentle as Reggie is.

Man Catches a Rare Frostfish, and It Looks Like It's Made Entirely of Tinfoil
I am 100% convinced the ocean is still hiding approximately 8,000 weird little guys from us.
Because every few weeks, the internet introduces me to another creature that sounds completely made up, and once again, I'm forced to accept that Earth is apparently running several expansion packs simultaneously.
@french_adriftFrostfish, one of New Zealand's coolest deep-water species. 🌊❄️ With their long silver bodies and ribbon-like appearance, these fish usually live hundreds of metres below the surface. Catching one is always a surprise and a reminder of how much mystery still lies beneath our oceans. Have you ever seen one before?
♬ levitation - Aaron Hibell & Felsmann + TileyThe fascinating clip, shared on TikTok by @french_adrift, shows a man catching and then safely releasing an incredibly shiny Silver Scabbardfish, also known as a Frostfish. According to the caption, these ribbon-like fish normally live hundreds of meters below the surface, making sightings relatively uncommon.
The first thing I thought when I saw it was, "Surely that is just a very stressed piece of Reynolds Wrap."

The fish's long, silver body almost looks metallic, and the way it moves somehow makes the whole thing even more mesmerizing. It's giving decorative Christmas ribbon. It's giving fancy bookmark. It's giving something a mermaid forgot at the bottom of the ocean.
And thankfully, viewers were just as fascinated as I was.
"Aww, you caught a roll of Reynolds Wrap," one person joked.
Another viewer appreciated the release, writing, "That was beautiful to see you let it go back home."
"That thing is GORGEOUS," someone else commented.
One person summed up the internet experience perfectly by writing, "I am 48 years old and like once a month I see a creature on TikTok that I didn't even know existed."
Honestly? Same.
And another viewer pointed out, "That's one of the shiniest fish I've ever seen."
Fun Facts About Frostfish @jetreefHave you ever seen a frost fish! 🥶❄️ #fish #jetreef #fishing
♬ Ameno Amapiano Remix (You Wanna Bamba) - Goya Menor & NektunezDespite their unusual appearance, Frostfish are real deep-water fish who belong to a species known as the Silver Scabbardfish. They typically live hundreds or even thousands of feet below the ocean's surface, which is one reason many people have never encountered one before.
Their long, ribbon-like bodies help them move efficiently through deep waters, and their striking silver color reflects light in a way that gives them their almost metallic appearance.
Frostfish are found in several parts of the world, including waters around New Zealand, where this particular fish was caught. Because they spend most of their lives far below the surface, every encounter serves as a reminder that the ocean still holds plenty of mysteries.
Which honestly feels rude. We've been here this whole time, and the ocean is still introducing surprise characters.

Butterfly Appears. Whistling Ducks Panic. Nature Is Cowardly and We Love It.
Lepidopterophobia is the fear of butterflies, and while it's considered relatively uncommon, the people who have it will tell you those fluttery little agents of chaos are absolutely not as harmless as everyone claims.
Apparently two ducks at the Cincinnati Zoo would like to join the support group.
@safari_davisThe Incident occurred on the Nineteenth of March Two Thousand Twenty-Six. The Incident occurred in the Butterfly Aviary at the Cincinnati Zoo. There were two witnesses. The Victims: White-Faced Whistling Ducks “Beaker” and “Bunsen”. We are not sure if they will ever be the same again.
♬ Among the Trees - Serene StationThe hilarious clip was shared by the TikTok account for @Safari_davis and documents what can only be described as a traumatic event involving two White Faced Whistling Ducks named Beaker and Bunsen.
According to the caption, "The Incident" occurred on March 19, 2026, inside the Cincinnati Zoo's butterfly aviary. There were two witnesses. The victims were Beaker and Bunsen. And zoo staff were not entirely convinced either duck would ever emotionally recover.
The video itself is absolutely adorable. As butterflies flutter nearby, the two little ducks react with the kind of panic usually reserved for home invasions and surprise tax audits.
I laughed because I know several people who would have reacted exactly the same way.
In my mind, these butterflies know exactly what they're doing. They just spend their days floating around the aviary wreaking psychological havoc on innocent duckies.
Tiny beautiful terrorists.
The comments section was equally hilarious.
"The fact that some humans are scared of butterflies and legit have the same reaction has me in tears," one viewer wrote.
Another person admitted, "I am sobbing this is so cute."
"I always said my spirit animal was a duck. It's this duck. Particularly," someone else shared.
And one commenter perfectly summarized the butterflies by writing, "In my mind these butterflies out here just wreaking havoc on purpose. The most beautiful little agents of chaos."
Honestly, I think Beaker and Bunsen deserve a few extra snacks after surviving such an ordeal.
Why Some Animals Are Scared Of Butterflies @jenvg22#fyp #dogsoftiktok #foryoupage #doglife #tiktoktrend
♬ awww so cute - Cherri ⁉️Even though butterflies are harmless, many animals are startled by sudden movements, especially when something unexpectedly flutters close to their faces. Birds, mammals and even some humans can react instinctively to quick, unpredictable motion.
Because butterflies move erratically and can appear without warning, some animals temporarily interpret them as potential threats. Fortunately, most creatures quickly realize there is no danger and go right back to their regularly scheduled business.
Assuming they have emotionally recovered from The Incident.

New Mom’s Cat Keeps Watch While She Cares for Her Infant—and It’s the Sweetest Thing
Though we see plenty of videos of cats more interested in baby stuff like cribs and strollers than the actual baby, many kitties are very maternal and protective toward their new family members.
In this new heartwarming video, we see a sweet cat who watches over a baby as well as her mother during a late-night feeding.

Why Some Cats Become Protective of BabiesThough cats are often thought to be standoffish and aloof, they can actually be very maternal, as we see here with the kitty closely watching over the baby.
Cats have a strong instinct to protect their own young, and this can apply to other vulnerable animals, like a human baby.
Another reason cats may be drawn to babies is that kitties do form deep social bonds with humans.
This female feline is already clearly very close with her mother, and now that her mom has a baby, the cat is drawn to the small, new human.
From the minute the newborn comes home, the cat can feel very protective of this new baby and stay close with a watchful eye, including during middle-of-the-night feedings.
Though kitties' sense of smell isn't quite as strong as dogs', it's still powerful, and an infant possesses a new smell that cats are very intrigued by as they form closer bonds with little ones.
The bond between the baby and the cat can be strong on so many levels.
Kitties can also quickly become very territorial toward this new family addition, which we see clearly from her sitting on top of the chair looking down on both Mommy and baby.
She's ready to take on any intruder!
The cat is showing her dominance in this position as the baby's protector and is marking her territory.

Grandma Maine Coon Meets Her 'Grandkittens' for the First Time, and the Cuteness Is Overflowing
Dogs are known to be loyal protectors and have a maternal instinct over babies and smaller animals. While cats still carry the stereotype of being overly independent and aloof, felines also show care and empathy toward those they feel are vulnerable. Mother cats are naturally protective of their kittens, and this trait may go even further up the family tree.
Stormy the Maine Coon cat just became a grandmother again and she's already doting on her adorable grandkittens.

♬ original sound - wildmane_mainecoonsIn the TikTok from @wildmane_mainecoons, Stormy was called into the room to meet her new grandkitties. This was the very first time the grandma was coming face-to-face with the newborn litter.
Stormy carefully approached the cat bed containing all the sleeping kittens. She looked proudly at her latest batch of grandkittens with love as each one was held up for her to get a closer look.
The newborn kittens were solid black and gray, still with their eyes closed and completely adorable.
The video revealed that Stormy is currently pregnant with her own litter and expecting to add to the feline family.
Followers fell in love with the cat family and the bond between Grandma Stormy and the little ones.
"They're all soooo cute!" one raved.
"This is the cutest video — I love them!!!" someone gushed.
"They are so beautiful," another remarked.
Do Cats Recognize Their Own Kin?When mother cats are separated from their kittens for at least one month, they most likely will not recognize each other if reunited. Brief absences between cat family members, such as two siblings being separated due to a health issue, may result in temporary unfamiliarity. However, they usually can identify each other's scent over a period of time and remember their relationship.

Cat relatives that permanently live in separate homes will see each other as strangers if brought back together. They will most likely exhibit behavior like swatting, hissing, and being on guard until they have time to get acquainted.
Between her new grandkittens and her own litter on the way, Stormy is going to have her paws full for quite some time.

New Mexico Dog Tests Positive for Flesh-Eating Screwworm—Here's What Pet Parents Need to Know
On June 3, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service confirmed the first case of the New World screwworm in the United States in more than 50 years.
The parasite, which targets mainly farm animals, hasn't been much of a concern among pet parents, but with the USDA confirming the first case in a family dog on Monday, June 8, that might change.
The United States eliminated the screwworm in 1966 following one of the most ambitious sterile insect programs in history.
Sadly, it is back now.
This Isn't An Ordinary ParasiteThere is a difference between this parasite and the most commonly known among pet parents. Called New World screwworm, unlike many fly larvae that feed on dead tissue, this one feeds on living flesh.
Adult female flies lay eggs in open wounds, cuts or surgical sites. After hatching, these parasites burrow deeper into the animal's healthy tissue to feed.
That makes the screwworm one of the most serious livestock and animal health threats in the United States.
A Single Dog Case Is Getting National AttentionThe recent case involved a dog in Lea County, N.M.
According to the official statement, the dog recently visited Texas before the infestation was discovered. The USDA says the dog is currently recovering, and surveillance teams have visited the site to check for additional cases nearby.
So far, this sounds like an isolated case. Still, that doesn't mean you shouldn't remain vigilant.
A parasitic fly does not respect state lines. It took years to spread from Panama through seven countries before finally reaching Texas and New Mexico. Nobody can say for sure where the spread of the New World screwworm will end.
Related: Vet Reveals the 'Coffee Grounds' Trick to Spotting Fleas Instantly—and It's Actually Genius
Most People Don't Understand How Serious This IsThe screwworm does not distinguish between livestock and pets. They can reach cattle and family dogs simultaneously.
The infestation can go from invisible to severe within 48 hours. By the time most pet parents notice something is wrong, the wound can be worse than it appears.
How to Keep Your Dog SafeIf you own a dog in New Mexico, Texas, or anywhere near the U.S.-Mexico border, you should pay even closer attention to the situation.
Start by keeping your dog's open wounds clean and covered. If you notice visible maggots around the wound, a foul or unusually strong odor from the wound, or unexplained bleeding, immediately call your vet.
Dogs may also show loss of appetite and separate themselves from other animals or their pet parents.
Right now, awareness is the best defense. The good news is that the dog in New Mexico will recover, and officials consider it an isolated case.
And while many pet parents might never encounter screwworm, understanding the parasite and how it spreads can make the difference.
Early detection can save your dog's life.

How to Keep Dogs Safe in Open WaterIt doesn't matter how good your dogs are at swimming. Open water can be extremely unpredictable, so it's important to take safety precautions when enjoying a day at the beach or the lake with your canine BFFs.
But how? According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), the best way to ensure their safety is by making sure that your dog is wearing a life jacket that fits properly anytime they're in or near the open water, including when they're out on a boat.
It's also non-negotiable to always keep an eye on your dog when you're near water. Things can go wrong in a split second, so making sure they're supervised is key. Not just to ensure that they don't drown, but also to watch for signs that they might be getting sleepy, which would be a good time to cut off the water fun for the day.
Before heading out, you'll also want to make sure that your dog isn't too freaked out by bodies of water. If they stay calm, there's a better chance they'll stay safe, so introduce them to the water slowly if they aren't into it at first, being sure to go at their pace.
With any luck, your dog will be as carefree in the water as Bella and Chico are. Those Pugs really know how to relax!

Golden Retriever Throws the Cutest 'Stomp Tantrum' When He Realizes His Favorite Cafe Isn't Open Yet
Golden Retrievers are generally such easygoing dogs, but they've been known to throw a fit from time to time when things don't go their way like any other canine. They can't always understand why they can't have what they want right this second. Doesn't the world revolve around them?!
The Golden Retriever in the video below, whose name is Charlie, seemed to be having those kind of big feelings when he realized that the café he likes to visit in the mornings wasn't open yet. Someone as cute as Charlie has to wait? No wonder he immediately began throwing a tantrum...
@laurenandcodyCharlie is not having it.. he’s putting his paw down 😏
♬ original sound - Lauren and CharlieCharlie's mom, Lauren, shared this footage on TikTok on June 8, and he might be the most disappointed dog I've ever seen.
Just watch the way he stops at the locked door and then looks back at his mom as if this must be part of some big misunderstanding. If you've ever wondered if a dog can actually stomp their paws out of impatience, wonder no more, because Charlie has perfected this particular art.
It's okay, Charlie. I know how you feel. Sometimes, my kids get up way too early and Starbucks isn't even open yet. It's quite a bummer!
Fortunately, his disappointment also meant that he got to be extra excited when two minutes had passed and the café was finally open. That must have felt like forever to him!

Why Dogs Get So Attached to RoutinesIf you've noticed that your dog does better when they're on a predictable routine, you're not the only one! Many dogs thrive on routine since they know what to expect day after day and will come to depend on the different elements of their routine just like Charlie and his favorite café.
According to the American Kennel Club (AKC), routines are key in training your dog, and in ensuring that they (and you) have as peaceful a day as possible.
When you do things with them at the same time every day — like serving meals, taking walks, and going to bed — they learn to associate those activities with the time of day, even though they can't read a clock.
Speaking of a dog's sense of time, it's all based on their ability to recognize patterns, which don't exist without a routine, as Rover points out. They also depend on their inner circadian rhythm the same way that humans do; it helps regulate their sleep and awake times on a daily basis.
This means that if you're late to offer them dinner, they will never let you live it down. I don't know Charlie that well, but I feel like this would be an especially grievous offense to him after seeing just how much he cares about that café.
Have they considered offering special hours for Charlie to dine? Just an idea...

Trapped Beneath Earthquake Rubble, This Dog's Survival Came Down to One Stranger
On Monday at 7:37 in the morning local time, as children were getting ready for school, a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the southern Philippines.
It resulted in at least 35 casualties, hundreds of injured people, 10,000 families displaced, and buildings crumbling across General Santos City on the island of Mindanao. In Glan, located in the province of Sarangani, a landslide buried 13 villagers. Meanwhile, flights were canceled at General Santos International Airport after sustaining structural damage.

As rescue teams aided those in need, a dog was crying for help somewhere among the rubble.
What a 7.8 Magnitude Earthquake Does To a CityThe earthquake's epicenter was located 32 kilometers southwest of the town of Maasim on Mindanao, the second-most populous island in the Philippine archipelago.
Rescue teams pulled people from collapsed low-rise buildings across General Santos City. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. canceled classes and ordered disaster agencies to act quickly. "The national government is moving and we will not leave Mindanao behind," he promised.
In the middle of all that, a group of men heard a dog.

"Thank You, Mga Kuya"The pup was buried among the debris, crying and frightened that he might not make it out alive. The men had sirens around them, rubble everywhere and human casualties to reach.
Nobody would blame them for moving on, but they stopped anyway.
They worked through the debris piece by piece until they reached the dog. When they finally pulled him out, he was shaken but alive.
Naturally, the rescue effort was posted on Facebook by the Bataan Animal Welfare Society, where it spread.
The post ended with: "Thank you mga Kuya." In Tagalog, "mga kuya" translates to "older brother," and can be used to show respect to any male relative or any older man.
They Didn't Keep WalkingWhen you hear your dog whine in the next room, you quickly spring into action without having given it much thought.
In the case of these rescuers, they heard a dog's cries for help coming from a collapsed building. Considering the circumstances and the many people who needed rescuing after the earthquake, you couldn't have faulted them for moving on.
Still, they stopped and saved another life that day. The dog is alive thanks to the kindness of strangers.
