"Dogs love living with people because very quickly we become their source of safety, predictability, and we are in fact how they access their core needs to thrive," states Shir Limazati, CPDT-KA, ABCDT, FFCP, a trainer at Another Chance Training. "This helps dogs grow a bond with their pet parents that deepens over time."

From following you around the house to seeking out your attention, here are seven adorable ways your dog may be saying, "I love living with you."

Since dogs can talk, pet parents have to learn how dogs express love, gratitude and show they are comfortable in their surroundings in order to know how their pup is feeling. Below are some ways dog trainers reveals do that.

1. They Follow You Everywhere

If your dog follows you from room to room—even to the bathroom—it may be one of the clearest signs they love living with you. While this "Velcro dog" behavior can seem amusing, trainers say it's often rooted in affection and attachment.

"Dogs seek proximity to people because it’s a way they regulate," Limazati explains. "Your presence helps them understand the flow in their home in the moment, and following you is a behavior rooted in bonding and attachment to their person."

While dogs with separation anxiety may also shadow their owners, following you around by itself isn't usually a cause for concern. Without other warning signs, it's often a sweet indication that your dog simply enjoys being near you.

2. They Greet You Like You’re the Best Part of Their Day

One sign your dog loves you is when you see them wagging their tail. "A wagging tail is the classic and universal way your dog lets you know that they find sharing a home with you sweet," Limazati shares. "Combined with full body engagement and choosing to approach, that happy wagging tail is saying, 'I love you, and I’m so excited that you’re home.'"

3. They Play With You

Another clear sign your dog loves living with you is when they act playful. According to Limazati, dogs only engage in play with people they feel comfortable with and trust, which is a strong indicator of your bond.

For your dog, living with you means having a built-in playmate they can rely on every day. "Play is an obvious expression of social bonding in a dog," Limazati says. "When a dog initiates play with you, that is an active choice they are making to interact with you.  Because it’s a choice, it also reflects their emotional connection with you." 

In dog behavior terms, play isn’t just fun, it’s communication. When your dog keeps bringing you toys, nudging you to engage, or inviting you into games, it’s one of the clearest signs your dog loves you and feels secure in your relationship.

4. They Know Your Routine (and Love It)

One way your dog expresses that they love being your roomie is by how quickly they learn your daily rhythm. From mealtimes to walks, dogs don’t just notice routines, they rely on them. After all, dogs thrive on predictability, so if your dog already knows exactly when food, walks, and bedtime are coming, it’s a strong sign they feel secure in their home with you.

"Dogs are incredibly sensitive to routines and the environmental cues that let them know what’s next," Limazati notes. "They are all associative learners, picking up on patterns, whether it’s you picking up your keys before you leave the house or you starting the coffee machine before you grab their leash because it’s walk time."

These small signals become part of a dog’s sense of safety and stability. "This level of predictability establishes safety, confidence, and happiness for your dog in their home," Limazati adds.

In other words, when your dog is tuned into your schedule, it’s not just training, it’s trust. It’s one of the quieter signs your dog loves you and feels completely at home with you.

5. They Let Out a Deep Sigh Around You

If your dog lets out a deep sigh while lounging beside you, it may be one of the subtle signs your dog loves you and feels completely content.

"It's often a popular topic for social media influencers to get some likes joking about that sigh coming out of a being that lives rent-free without a care in the world," Limazati says.

But their lack of bills isn't the real reason for those contented sighs. "Those sighs indicate your dog knows they can fully rest," Limazati explains. "They feel safe, calm, relaxed, satisfied, and they know they are home. When a dog sighs in your presence, that is them communicating that they are fully content being right where they are."

In dog behavior terms, a deep sigh can be one of the quiet dog affection signs that shows emotional comfort and trust in their environment. For many dogs, it's a small but meaningful way of showing they're happy living with you.

6. They Sleep on Your Lap

Dogs don't take lap naps for just anyone. "Sleeping is when a dog feels the most vulnerable," Limazati reports. "Choosing to sleep on your lap is the ultimate sign of trust."

When your dog sleeps on your lap, Limazati says they feel safe. It's their way of telling you, "This is a place I can fully let go. It is a signal of emotional regulation because your presence helped your dog shift into a calm state." 

And honestly? Who wouldn't want to live with someone who makes them feel that way?

7. They Stare Softly at You

One adorable sign your dog loves living with you is the way they look at you. According to Limazati, there’s a clear difference between a stressed or fixated stare and a relaxed, affectionate “soft gaze.”

"When a dog’s eyes are soft, gentle and relaxed while looking at you, that is reflecting emotional connection and awareness of your presence," Limazati says. "Your dog gazing at you with those soft, warm eyes is a way of them saying, 'I’m here with you, and I feel good in your presence.'"

In other words, if your dog looks at you like that, they’re not just watching you—they’re connecting with you.

Joe the Rescue Cat had this litter of kittens two years ago, in her mom's home. She had just taken her in! While most people would raise the kittens until they were weaned and then send them off to separate forever homes, Gigi wouldn't dare. She kept them all!

The entire litter still lives with her and their mom, and they love it. They have each other to play and fight with, a human to feed them, and their mama to snuggle. They're living the dream, which is a thing that a lot of pregnant cats don't get to say.

Cats Don't Get 'Littermate Syndrome'

I'm a dog mom, though I have had cats in the past, and I love cats a lot! However, one thing that's been really drilled into me as a dog mom is never to get two dogs from the same litter, as they might develop Littermate Syndrome. Cats don't have that problem.

Littermate Syndrome is when two dogs from the same litter (or even two dogs who are just close in age) develop a severe attachment, which either leads to extreme clinginess or extreme aggression. There is no cure for it other than separating the two.

However, cats can live with their siblings for their entire lives with no issue. They just don't develop the syndrome the way dogs do, which is awesome for keeping families together! The only problem is that the kittens will soon be bigger than their mama, and then she'll have trouble snuggling them all!

Animal sanctuaries save more lives than we will ever know. While it's pretty common to hear about sanctuaries saving dogs, cats, and farm animals, there are sanctuaries all over the world that are constantly saving animals we'd never even think about.

For example, one animal sanctuary recently rescued 27 Asiatic Black Bears, also known as Moon Bears, from a crowded farm where they were being kept for slaughter. The endangered bears were crowded into cages, and when they were rescued, they were so grateful:

This rescue is incredibly complex, with 27 moon bears trapped in raised metal cages in an illegal bile farm in Laos.  After years in these conditions, safely getting them out and into transport crates so we can bring them to the safety of Luang Prabang Wildlife Sanctuary has required our team to come up with custom solutions as we go. Our construction crew and animal care teams have been building custom platforms and trolley systems so transport crates can safely reach the cage doors. With so many frightened bears in one room, stress levels can rise very quickly, which is also dangerous for the rescue team working around them. Thankfully our animal care team are experts at gentle crating, encouraging the bears with honey and treats.  This is likely the first time in their lives they’ve ever tasted honey. They’ve been surviving on a terrible diet of cornmeal, fed only twice a day, and given water just once daily, despite being trapped in a hot shed. One of the most heartbreaking parts of this rescue is seeing how isolated these young bears have been forced to live. Moon bears are often born in sibling pairs, so there’s a very real chance many of the bears in this room are brothers and sisters. But every bear has been separated by metal bars. At our sanctuaries, moon bears curl up together to sleep, wrestle, share hammocks, and spend hours playing with one another. Young bears are meant to learn through play and time with their mother. Instead, these young bears, estimated to be just 1–3 years old, were illegally and cruelly ripped from the wild. Their mothers were likely killed to get to them. Then they were brought here to be caged and eventually exploited for their bile, which would be sold on the black market for traditional medicine.  What makes this even more confronting is that we found a large number of empty cages at the facility, suggesting they planned to expand to hold around 200 bears. The devastation that would have caused to wild bear populations is almost unimaginable. We are so grateful for the enduring support of the community. This is the largest ever bear farm rescue in Southeast Asia, and it's only because of your generosity that we could say yes to a rescue of such a large scale. Free The Bears works tirelessly to rescue Asiatic Black Bears from these farms: since they were founded in 1995, Free The Bears has rescued over 1,000 Moon Bears and expanded to have sanctuaries 5 across Southeast Asia.

This rescue was one of the largest at one time in their history: they rescued 27 Moon Bears from a bile farm. Unfortunately, bear bile is in demand because of its medicinal properties. Bear bile has certain properties that appeal to holistic medicine:

• It has a high concentration of UDCA, a compound that helps treat liver disease.
• It's naturally anti-inflammatory.
• It can lower fevers.
• It helps with pain.

Bear bile has been used this way for thousands of years, but the Asiatic Black Bear species is endangered: not only are they farmed and poached for their bile, but the ones who remain in the wild are experiencing habitat loss.

This operation was one of their trickiest: though these Moon Bears are total sweethearts, they're still 27 very stressed bears. The situation needed to be approached with extreme caution, but luckily, they're seasoned pros. Every single bear was saved, and now, they're having all of their firsts:

When you've spent your entire life in a cage, even the simplest things are new. The 27 moon bears we recently rescued from an illegal bile farm in Laos are currently in quarantine, and every day we're watching them experience little firsts. It's their first bath, first taste of honey, first time digging through leaves or investigating enrichment. Many are still learning how to eat foods hard vegetables, and despite now being on solid ground, they are eating balanced on their forearms rather than sitting on their bottom - a posture they would have adapted to be able to eat while balancing on metal bars. After years of being fed a poor diet of only cornmeal twice a day, something as simple as a sweet potato is unfamiliar. On the farm, they lived in cages inside a hot shed and were only given water once a day, so even unlimited access to drinking water is new! They're also getting used to having other bears nearby, and introductions to other bears have begun. It's exciting to watch, but it can also be a lot for them to take in. That's one of the reasons quarantine is so important. Alongside health checks and veterinary care, it gives these bears time to adjust to a world that is suddenly much bigger than the one they've known. The road ahead is still a long one. These bears have missed out on years of normal bear experiences, and recovery doesn't happen overnight. But every day we see a little more curiosity and after everything they've been through, those small moments feel pretty special.

With the World Cup underway, NBC News caught up with the family. "Not only did he block them, but he would also, like, do acrobatics in the middle of it. Like, he would totally twist himself and grab the ball, which was like, amazing that we never taught him any of this," they told NBC News.

Can You Teach a Dog to Catch a Ball?

Ronaldo's videos have pet parents reaching for a ball and heading outside. The instinct to track and intercept moving objects runs deep in most dogs. They just need the right outlet for that instinct.

Start with something soft, and stand close. Toss it in a gentle arc toward your dog's nose level. The early goal is getting them to watch the ball, not you.

Reward the attempt, not just the catch. Dogs build the catching instinct through consistent positive reinforcement. Praise immediately after any interaction with the ball, even a fumble, and limit sessions to five minutes. Short and successful beats long and frustrating every time.

Keep Your Dog Safe

Acrobatic jumps look effortless on video, but repetitive leaping on hard surfaces may cause joint issues over time. Smaller breeds are particularly prone to kneecap problems that jumping may aggravate.

Always train on grass or a soft surface, and watch for stiffness or reluctance to jump in the days after a session. Ronaldo's saves are still racking up views as the World Cup runs. Check his Instagram profile to marvel at his skills and cheer him on.

Ostriches can be quite intimidating creatures, considering their imposing size. Not only can they move quickly, but most of them are also taller than humans when they're fully grown. Still, they manage to have the most adorable babies.

While visiting what appears to be a farm or a zoo, The Mueller Crew on TikTok shared footage of a baby ostrich she saw walking in the grass next to their mama. The chick is so tiny that it would be easy to miss seeing them — those little legs are working hard to keep up with their mom's pace!

If you're surprised to find out that baby ostriches are this small, you're not the only one. The comments are flooded with people who never realized they'd be this little either.

"I thought the legs would be longer from the beginning. Like giraffes," one commenter admitted.

Another wrote, "Not me thinking the big one was the baby because he was so tiny I couldn’t see him."

How Fast Do Baby Ostriches Grow?

This baby ostrich might look small in the video, but they won't remain that tiny for long!

According to the Smithsonian's National Zoo, ostrich chicks grow very fast. First, they incubate in their eggs for about 45 days, and when they hatch, they're the size of a chicken — it seems big for a baby, but not compared to an adult ostrich!

Of course, ostriches start off their life in eggs, and those eggs are huge: six inches long and weigh up to three pounds each. Since an ostrich can lay seven to 10 eggs at a time, those nests can get very heavy.

Once the babies have hatched, ostrich chicks grow about one foot per month and will be considered fully grown by the time they're six months old, though they won't have reached reproductive maturity until they are about three or four years old.

To put it in perspective, an adult ostrich weighs between 200-300 pounds and can grow as tall as nine feet (though the Smithsonian notes that male ostriches do tend to be taller than females)... so imagine a chicken reaching that height and weight in six months! Talk about growing up fast.

My senior foster dog, Gingersnap, is partially paralyzed in her back end, and because of that she is cautious and sometimes fearful of other dogs. In her time here, she has shown the most interest and playfulness with my rabbit, Merlin, who is also special needs because of his little front leg being disabled. Merlin is a free roam bun in our house but spends time in his little cottage eating, using his litter box and resting in the sunshine where he feels safest - today Gingersnap decided to check out his digs and he let her right in. Merlin also decided to toss some of his toys for her! That’s something he does that when he’s happy and comfortable. Pet mom Natalie Jo Snyder recently shared the amazing story of Gingersnap and Merlin falling in love, explaining that the senior foster pup is typically cautious and fearful of other dogs. Once she met Merlin—whose front leg is disabled—Gingersnap came alive, showing interest in playing with her new pal.

The video gives us a tiny glimpse into how gentle Merlin is with the senior dog, letting her right into his little cottage. He must've been so excited for a visitor who "gets" him because he tossed a few toys her way, which is something he does when he's happy!

If ever there were the world's cutest duo, it's these two. It's even more incredible once you understand what little Gingersnap endured before Natalie took her in.

At the end of May, Gingersnap's mom became unhoused, and she needed a foster parent who could give her the care she required. The sweet girl had spinal damage and multiple infections. She was also scared and in a lot of pain. But that didn't stop her from showing Natalie how great she is.

With the right vet care, a grooming appointment, and medicine, Gingersnap is well on her way to enjoying the rest of her golden years pain-free. Thankfully, this rescue dog gets to do it with her friend, Merlin. It's unknown how he lost the use of his leg, but I'm sure having Gingersnap around makes him feel a little more understood.

How To Support Special-Needs Animals

Having a special-needs pet takes a lot of care and dedication to making sure they're happy, healthy, and comfortable. It's not only physical support and helping them get around, but emotional support as well. With a little planning, some patience, and plenty of TLC, these companions can thrive no matter their challenges.

Whether the "special needs" are from being fully paralyzed or partially, it's important to make sure your home is safe. Rugs, mats, ramps, and/or pet stairs help them navigate the house. Likewise, block off stairs with a baby gate, so they're not tempted to parkour!

Keep things clean for those who are fully paralyzed. They may need help with incontinence management. Puppy pads and diapers (washable or disposable) are other great options for any accidents. A regular, consistent schedule with predictable feeding times, outside time, and bedtimes, goes a long way for any pet, but for those with limited mobility, it's even more important.

Whether you're fostering or adopting a special-needs pet (especially senior dogs), positive reinforcement reassures them that everything will be OK while helping build trust between you two.

Stray cats get pregnant very frequently: no one spays or neuters a large majority of them. Unfortunately, a lot of them also have a hard time caring for their kittens. They don't have loving humans to help them out, at least in most cases, so they often lose some of them along the way.

One stray cat was having a hard time finding a place to keep her litter safe. There are so many obstacles in the world, and she just wanted to shield her babies! Luckily, she found just the place, and nothing could ever be sweeter:

The Midnight Garden Club is also apparently the Midnight Kitten Club. They knew that the mama cat was scoping out their yard: they even put a cat tree out for her and her kittens. There are so many of them! It's kind of hard to see them all in this video, but there are 7 of them.

With that many kittens, this was definitely not her first litter. She didn't give birth to the kittens in this backyard: she brought them there after. When their new human caretaker spotted them, she put two cat trees out there for them to play with!

She hasn't brought any of them inside yet, though they do have some exposure to her when she goes outside to feed them. She is planning on making sure they're spayed and neutered, at the very least, but she might be able to find some of them forever homes. Right now, though, they're living their best lives outside:

I'm glad these kittens are getting what they need when it matters most. Even if she ends up going with TNR for them instead of finding them homes, they'll probably always stick around. They know they're safe there!

How to Help Feral Kittens

If you come across feral kittens, whether they're out in public or in your yard, you can help them if you want to. In fact, you can help them without ever touching them!

If you come across feral kittens, first, look around for Mama. It's important to find her: they need her to survive, and she most likely needs to be spayed to prevent more kittens. You may have to wait a while. When you find her:

• Reach out to your local shelter.
• If there's a TNR organization in your area, contact them.
• You can take them in your car if you're comfortable.

Try not to call animal control: they round up animals and take them to municipal shelters. Those shelters have higher rates of euthanasia due to overcrowding. If they're in your yard, you might want to try putting out a couple of cat trees! They'll love it!

Livestock guardian dogs are so amazing. They do the hard stuff so we don't have to, and more than that, they do it with love. These fearless pups become genuine parts of the herds they protect! Without them, the herd would be less safe, but it would also be incomplete.

A lot of farms have more than one livestock guardian dog, like this one. They have several, and they've recently added in a new Anatolian Shepherd puppy. He's not working on his own yet, but clearly, he's already showing a ton of potential:

Raventree Ranch is the place to be if you like watching working dogs do their thing. They have 4 Anatolian Shepherds, with Grimm being the newest addition, and 5 Border Collies to herd everyone. In case that wasn't enough, they also have a "Recon Cat!"

Grimm is only a few months old, though he's already almost 50 pounds. His older siblings are closing in on 200 pounds themselves, so clearly, he has some growing still to do. He needs a little more meat on his bones and a little more practice before they'll really be able to make him part of the team.

When Do Anatolian Shepherds Start Working?

Training for most working Anatolian Shepherds legitimately begins at birth. They're typically born outside, on a farm, where they're immediately getting used to the sights, sounds, and smells of farm animals. However, that's not quite enough: they require extensive training!

Though they might start responding to alerts as young puppies, Anatolian Shepherds train for anywhere from 18-24 months before they're considered "safe" to work on their own. It seems like a long time, but it's vital to make sure they:

• Learn the cues of the other dogs they work with.
• Familiarize themselves with the land.
• Understand how to respond to alerts safely.
• Have the proper instincts for the job.

Not all Anatolian Shepherds, or livestock guardian dogs in general, will have what it takes for farm life. That's okay! Those dogs are adopted out to live as pets. Luckily, though, Grimm definitely doesn't have that problem!

In the TikTok from @thepethospitals, a staff member walked into the reception area of the vet office carrying a rather large floof ball. Her co-worker behind the desk was delighted at the sight of the more-than-petite pup, yet very surprised at his young age.

"POV: You're a HUGE 8-week-old Golden Retriever puppy at the vet," the onscreen text shared.

The precious puppy's name is Doug, in honor of the adorable talking Golden Retriever in the Pixar film, Up. There was definitely a resemblance to the animated movie character, which made the canine cutie even more charming.

Doug Was a Workplace Sensation

As Doug was taken on rounds to meet the staff at The Pet Hospitals in Memphis, TN, everyone instantly fell head over heels for the fur baby. From technicians to veterinarians, the entire team was besotted with the gorgeous Golden.

"Oh my gosh, this is why we come to work!" one vet gushed as she was introduced to Doug and marveled over his size. "You're so cute! What a precious boy. Look at those paws. It's like as big as my hand. You're going to be huge."

Followers also clamored over Doug's undeniable cuteness, with some requesting his presence at their place of work.

How one chooses to spend their golden years of retirement is up to them, and for this senior Orange Cat, CVS is where he wants to spend his days.

For a nearly 19-year-old cat named Nutmeg, a CVS in Oregon is essentially his Florida retirement home.

He spends his days there, but according to a recent video news report, not everyone is so thrilled about this "retiree's" presence.

The comments on this heartwarming video indicate that many people are quite thrilled to have this sweet senior Orange Cat, who lives with his adopted parents nearby, as their community kitty.

Also, how cute is it that he waits for the automatic doors to open and just walks right into the store in the mornings?

Why Some People Aren't Happy About Nutmeg's Presence

As the reporter explained in the video, many people in the local community love the senior Orange Cat at CVS and want him to continue to spend his days there.

However, some locals don't feel the same way.

According to the video report, a person wrote on Facebook complaining that a cat being in the store wasn't sanitary (CVS sells food), and then an official complaint against Nutmeg was filed with CVS’s corporate offices a few days later.

Though people in the comments on the video argued that none of the food in the store is open and that many cities have bodega cats in small market stores, technically, because CVS is a large corporation, the rules for non-service animals are different.

According to an article from OregonLive.com on MSN, the Oregon Department of Agriculture says that pets, with the exception of service animals, aren't allowed inside grocery stores, pharmacies, and businesses that sell food (CVS definitely falls under at least two of these).

It's up to the CVS corporation whether Nutmeg can live out the rest of his retirement there.

Though his fans in the community are rallying around him so he can spend his final years at his happy place, it is up to the company.

Hopefully, the senior Orange Cat will continue to welcome his fans into CVS!

On June 9, Poppy's mom, Melody, shared this peek at Poppy's reaction. She's just staring at her feet like she can't believe they're actually there. It's like you can see the gears in her brain turning as she wonders, "What are those things?"

If it's possible for a Cockatoo to look shocked, that's the way I'd describe the expression on her face.

Just as funny as the video are the comments it has inspired from some of its more than 100,000 viewers.

Why Cockatoos React Dramatically to New Things

It usually doesn't matter what their newest discovery was: Cockatoos tend to have big reactions to just about everything to match their big personalities. That's part of the fun of adding this bird to your family.

According to AFA Watchbird Magazine, Cockatoos are known for their intelligence and that means that they will observe when something has changed, even if it's something small.

Marnie Moo the Mammut Bulldog made my jaw drop. I am so in love! She's still a puppy, born earlier this year, and her coat is already growing in so well. She's grown a lot since then, too: she's still got a way to go, but she's about halfway there!

Marnie is an Olde English Mammut Bulldog, also known as a Mammoth Bulldog. "Mammut" is German for mammoth, which is where these fluffy pups were first bred! You can use either when referring to the breed, but "mammut" definitely sounds a little fancier!

Her eyes are one of the best parts of her whole look! They're a super light blue, and they almost match the white all over her coat. Though she's technically still a puppy, she was a beautiful baby, too!

How Are Mammut Bulldogs Different?

Technically, Mammut Bulldogs are Bulldog mixes. These dogs are modeled after the Olde English Bulldogs from the 1800s, which definitely look different than the current Bulldogs we all know and love.

Mammut Buldogs are a mix of several types of Bulldogs, as well as the Bull Mastiff. The fluff comes from a specific recessive gene, FGF5, that produces long hair. Breeders specifically cultivate pairs with the gene. However, since it is recessive, not every Mammut Bulldog is fluffy.

These dogs are:

• Bigger than traditional English Bulldogs.
• More structurally sound, with longer legs and less extra skin.
• More active.
• Overall, generally healthier.

Though they're healthier than traditional Bulldogs, they're also much more expensive. If you want one, be prepared to pay a little extra for all of that fluff!

Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, and unlike many kitties, they continue to grow for several years. While most cats reach their adult size around 1 year of age, Maine Coons often keep developing until they're 3 to 5 years old.

Many Maine Coon kittens go through awkward stages where their ears and paws seem far too large for the rest of their bodies. Eventually, they grow into those oversized features and transform into the giant, majestic cats the breed is famous for.

Most dogs enjoy a walk around the block or a game of fetch in the backyard. Gus, the Golden Retriever, isn't like most dogs. His happy place is on the water, and he has one simple rule: if Dad's getting on the jet ski, so is Gus.

According to this video posted by his mom, "Gus will never let Dad go on the jet ski alone!!" Viewers are totally smitten (and probably a little envious) of Gus.

"He truly LOVES it, and he’s so cute riding it with the wind blowing his ears and fluff!" says one fan.

I love this so much! I can’t imagine being on a boat and seeing them drive by! So cute!" adds another.

Of course, Gus's look is a moment of its own.

"I cannot handle the shark vest," gushes one viewer.

"OMG!! That's a "Fluffshark" the most dangerous of all sharks!" jokes another.

The vest is more than just a fashionable choice, however. It's essential for all dogs who spend time near water – though the added flair is optional.

The Real Reason Dogs Need Life Vests on the Water

There are many reasons why dogs who spend time on or near the water should wear personal flotation devices, but none more important than this: According to one water safety professional, "Dogs should wear life vests for the same reason humans do. You never know what might go wrong."

And "what might go wrong" covers a lot more ground than most people expect.

For starters, not every dog is a natural swimmer — even if their breed reputation suggests otherwise. Even dogs that are genuinely strong swimmers — Labs, Portuguese Water Dogs, Newfies — don't always know when to stop. Dogs don't self-regulate well in the water, which means fatigue can sneak up on them well before they're ready to call it a day.

Then there are the hazards you can't see coming. Lakes can hide underwater debris that a dog can get tangled in. Rivers mean swimming against a current. Ocean water means the risk of getting pushed out by a strong current. And cold water — even for thick-coated dogs — carries a real hypothermia risk: once a dog's internal temperature drops below 99°F, bodily functions start to become impaired.

Certain breeds – such as English and French Bulldogs – with stocky bodies, short legs, and abnormally large heads, are even at risk of drowning in a backyard pool if they accidentally fall in. The SPCA of Nevada recommends that "for dogs who struggle with swimming or have limited mobility, fitting them with a well-fitting life jacket can provide an added layer of safety and buoyancy."

Thus, Gus's shark fin vest isn't just the cutest thing on the water. It's also the smartest thing a parent can provide for their water-loving dog.

Some dogs can resemble famous animated characters or canine film stars. I've always thought my Pug mix looks like Simba from Disney's The Lion King. He has the same honey-hued coat, dark brown eyes, and sassy personality. Simba grew up into a majestic lion, where my pup will always remain an adorable cub cutie.

This orange cat named Pumpkin was recently brought to the SPCA Cincinnati rescue and has become a social media favorite. Some find she gives off major Emma Stone vibes thanks to her fiery colored fur and striking eyes.

Chris Seelback, President and CEO of SPCA Cincinnati, recently shared a TikTok post to give an update on Pumpkin. He immediately began fostering the sweet kitty as soon as she arrived at the shelter.

"I have good and bad news," he began as Pumpkin sat on his lap, then gave a report from the rescue's medical team. "All of her bloodwork, all of her testing came back and it's completely normal... She's healthy in terms of bloodwork. I think they took some X-rays — all of it came back normal."

Then Seelback revealed the not-so-positive information, which had to do with her size.

"The bad news is, she's not losing any weight," he said. "We don't know why. We are not feeding her, hardly at all... She does not have much physical activity, but we're trying."

Followers fell in love with Pumpkin and noted her resemblance to a famous redhead as well as an iconic cartoon cat. She even got a request for romance.

"She looks like Emma stone," one pointed out.

"Baby, that’s a squishmellow," another remarked.

"Garfield perhaps?" a follower suggested.

"My cat would like to ask Pumpkin on a date," someone revealed.

Pumpkin's Rescue Story

Pumpkin arrived at the SPCA Cincinnati rescue when her parent passed away and was in horrific condition. She had previously been spayed and ear-tipped, revealing she had lived outside and on her own at some point. When Pumpkin was brought to the rescue, she was very dirty and so obese that she had to be wheeled inside.

Pumpkin was a hit with everyone she met, and Seelback was smitten the moment he met her. He brought Pumpkin home as a foster to join the rest of his feline pack and is now committed to her recovery. Pumpkin is on a special diet, and Seelback is researching safe forms of exercise for his "foster daughter" to begin.

The pretty kitty is definitely in wonderful hands with Seelback and seems to already feel right at home.

"She's happy," Seelback reported, and even hinted that Pumpkin may become a permanent member of his family. "She's settling in well... We just need to get her to lose some weight."

Somewhere on a farm, far, far away a cow is having her moment. She’s been misunderstood. She’s always felt things more deeply than the other cows. And she needs everyone to know: it was never a phase.

The TikTok from @caseyandrew09 features a black and white cow with a pile of hay caught on her horns, hanging down like long, side-swept emo bangs. She runs through the pasture, then stops completely and stares directly into the camera. The whole thing is set to "Fall For You" by Secondhand Serenade.

This cow has range. She has a presence. She’s got the kind of expression that says she's been through things, seen some stuff and came out the other side with better eyeliner.

The song plays. "Because tonight will be the night that I will fall for you, over again." And somewhere in a barn, a cow stands there like she wrote those lyrics herself, probably holding a boombox in front of some bull.

The comments did not hold back:

"E-moo was never a phase"

"Main character of the barn"

And then someone rewrote the lyrics entirely: "Because tonight will be the night that I will fall for moo, over again…"

E-Moo has entered the chat. The barn has a main character now and she is taking the role very seriously.

But here's the thing about that phrase. It means something real to a lot of people. It turns out that it might mean something real for cows too.

Why Cows Are More Emotionally Complex Than You Think

Turns out cows feel a lot more deeply than we ever give them credit for.

According to Psychology Today, cows are smart, deeply emotional and each one has their own personality. Mark Peters, the man who spent over a decade getting to know rescued cows for his book "Voices of the Herd," describes a cow who once wrapped itself around him for a hug, then gently licked his face. He compared it to meeting a really excited dog, except one that weighs more than a golf cart.

Cows make real friendships too. When two cow friends are near one another, their heart rates actually go down, and they often nap side by side. They remember faces, hold grudges and remember when someone was kind to them. They look out for each other as well. In one sanctuary, older cows noticed a blind calf struggling to keep up and circled back to gently nudge her along with the herd.

They grieve also. When a herd member dies, cow friends will lick the body, moo loudly and sometimes even go back to where that cow was buried, almost like they're paying their last respects.

As Peters puts it: "They form lifelong friendships, grieve losses, protect vulnerable herd members, and show curiosity and playfulness."

So maybe E-Moo really has been an emo girl this whole time. Maybe she's felt things more deeply than most, made true bonds, and remembered moments others long forgot. Maybe "it was never a phase" is the most honest thing she's ever conveyed.

Main character of the barn? She always was.
