16-Year-Old Hospice Cat Looking for a 'Comfortable Place to Finish Out the Time She Has Left' Is Breaking Hearts
Senior animals in shelters run the risk of living out their final days without a forever family. Older dogs and cats with serious medical conditions may not have much more life left to live and need a loving home as a final resting place.
Luna Belle is a 16-year-old cat on hospice due to her failing health and is currently at the NAWS Humane Society hoping someone will give her a soft place to live the rest of her days.
@franflightSigh, another senior cat breaking my heart!!! Luna Belle is looking for a forever family who will give her a comfortable place to finish out whatever time she has left. Luna Belle doesn’t love other animals, and would do best in a space where she can have alone time with her favorite people…. Although, I am fairly confident she can coexist with other senior cats who respect her space. Luna is on Solensia injections monthly for her spinal pain. She gets around okay, but has trouble going up and down stairs and needs a shallow litter box to step in and out of comfortably. Luna is also 4 paw declawed. 🫩 If you have any questions please feel free to message me directly and if you are serious about adopting Luna Belle please submit a cat adoption application at nawsus.org under the tab “adoption center”. I’m sending you guys all of my love, thank you for loving Luna as much as we all do. 🥹🫂🤍 #cat #adoptdontshop #catsoftiktok #catadoption #adopt
♬ Sand Drawing – Judah EarlThe TikTok from @franflight told Luna Belle’s story and described some of the health issues she’s battling.
“She completely shut down being back at the shelter,” the on-screen text shared as a shelter staff member gave Luna Belle some much-needed affection. “Luna is a hospice cat. She was diagnosed with spondylosis, which means she currently has multiple fused vertebrae.”
Luna Belle requires medication on a regular basis and some other mild accommodations to navigate her environment.
“Luna is on Solensia injections monthly for her spinal pain,” the caption explained. “She gets around okay, but has trouble going up and down stairs and needs a shallow litter box to step in and out of comfortably. Luna is also 4 paw declawed.”
The feline fur baby would do best in a calm and quiet home where she is the only pet, though she may do well with other senior cats who respect her space.
“Luna Belle is looking for a forever family who will give her a comfortable place to finish out whatever time she has left,” the caption noted.
How to Give a Dying Pet Comfort and DignityThere are several ways you can provide your pet with the support they need during this time. Priorities include pain management, stress reduction, emotional comfort, and mobility assistance. Helpful accommodations include:
- A calm and quiet space with warm blankets, easy access to food and water, and soft lighting.
- Feed small frequent meals, by hand if necessary.
- Place ramps and non-slip rugs around to support their mobility.
- Consult your vet for pain control options including anti-inflammatory medications, injectable therapies, and joint support treatment.
Most importantly, be a consistent loving presence to your pet during this final phase of life.

Hopefully, someone will open their heart to Luna Belle so she can have a loving place to be at rest.
“Even though we don’t know how much longer Luna has with us, we know she still wants to love, and to be loved,” the on-screen text read. “She deserves her happy ending.”

Woman Buys a Farm in Italy and It Comes With the Cutest Feral Furry Friends
Personally, I would love to have a farm, but I know that that is absolutely not my bag. I really don’t like to get dirty, but I’m too bossy to let someone else take care of my animals! I just know it wouldn’t work out, so instead, I live vicariously through people who are actually capable of living that life.
Like this woman, who recently bought a farm in Italy. That’s cooler than anything I’ll ever do on its own, but it doesn’t stop there: her farm came full of feral cats and even a kitten, and they’re the cutest cats in the world:
@bacchanalaHis cute little kitten eyes are just SO BLUE #americaninitaly #kittenseason #cutekitten #catcolony #farmlifeisthebestlife
♬ BAD BUNNY MONACO SLOWED – allaboutmusicI’m so jealous of Bacchante on so many levels! Having a farm in Italy is already so fun, and while they don’t have a ton of other animals yet, these cats are enough. There’s an entire colony living there, and apparently, a single kitten. He’s everyone’s baby!
For now, the colony of cats is keeping both her and her young son busy. They’re always following their new humans around and trying to lead them to their favorite spots. They love getting sidetracked, and as far as the kitten goes, he’ll be doing the same as soon as he’s old enough to walk!
Related: Feral Cat ‘Begs’ Kind Woman to Save Her Babies, and It’s a Match Made in Heaven
There is something a little bit different about Italian farm cats, though, that no one really anticipated. Regular cats spend a lot of time making biscuits, but not these ones. Instead of biscuits, these cats are busy making pasta:
@bacchanalaI told her to keep the basement clean and instead she put another kitten in it. #americaninitaly #cutekitten #catcolony #kittentok #farmlifeisthebestlife
♬ Riveted by the Swing – Mason Jar ClubThis is just a reality when you have farm cats: you’re going to run into kittens, even when you think you’ve found them all. New strays will find their way in every time! All you can really do is try your best to spay and neuter them all.
Italy Has a Lot of Stray CatsWhile you’ll most likely be able to find stray cats on any farm in the world, Italy has a very high population of stray cats all over. You can find them almost anywhere, from farms and backroads to sitting around the ancient ruins and every tourist spot!
Luckily, the stray cats in Italy are protected: they may not be harmed or moved, and their colonies are protected by law. Additionally, professional organizations provide trap, neuter, and release programs to help control the population of strays, especially in crowded city areas. As for farm strays, you can:
- Take the cats in yourself for TNR.
- Call an organization to assist.
- Have them vaccinated and neutered and then, if they’re friendly enough, rehomed with families.
If your Italian farm came with a whole colony of feral cats, too, just know you have options. One thing that wasn’t optional for this woman, though, was keeping that gorgeous kitten!

3 Things You Should Never Do When Walking Your Dog in the Dark This Fall
Fall is almost here, and it’s time to get ready for everything cozy and pumpkin spice. Although the season brings plenty of fun things to enjoy, it also comes with Daylight Saving Time. During this time, clocks fall back one hour, and while we all get an extra hour of sleep that night, that time shift disrupts our dogs’ schedules for the fall and winter months.
Gone are the long sunny days of summer. Instead, the sun sets earlier (and earlier), meaning your evening walks with your dog will look a lot different now that the sun isn’t out as late. For our pups, this means their evening strolls may now take place in low-light or no-light times, meaning they’ll likely be walking in darkness for many months ahead as fall turns to winter and the sun sets even earlier.

Although it’s tempting to shrug off this change and keep walking your dog the way you always have, experts agree it can pose a real danger for dogs and their owners alike.
From missed oncoming hazards to lower visibility, you may encounter some unwelcome surprises on your darker evening strolls if you’re not prepared. Instead of keeping the same walking routine you followed all summer, pet experts agree there are several important changes you need to make to protect your safety, as well as your dog’s, once the sun starts setting earlier.
Before your first evening walk of the season, these are the most common mistakes pet parents make when walking a dog in the dark—and how to fix them.
How the Changing Clocks Bring Hidden Dangers for DogsThe fall season isn’t just about leaves changing colors and the smell of pumpkin spice everywhere. The season also marks Daylight Saving Time, when clocks fall back one hour. While everyone loves gaining an hour of sleep, our dogs aren’t big fans of change. Besides the debacle of what time dinner is, the changing clocks also mean evening walks now take place in the dark.
According to Lora Shaw, vice president of operations at Pet Palace, the changing clocks can mean added dangers for you and your dog. Walking in the dark means you and your dog are practically invisible to drivers, making it easy for either of you to get hit. Darkness also means wildlife is out, and unlike during the day, it can be hard to spot until it’s too late.
3 Major Mistakes Owners Make on Evening WalksHarri Küünarpuu / Getty Images
Taking your dog out for an evening walk isn’t the same as when you do it during the day. Even if you’re walking along the same route, low visibility increases the dangers for you and your pet. Here are some of the major mistakes the experts we spoke with want pet parents to stop making this fall.
1. Using a Retractable LeashViktorija Karasu / Getty Images
Retractable leashes may work fine during the day, but they can pose a real danger at night. As Molly Jespersen, a training specialist at Camp Bow Wow, explains, retractable leashes give your dog more room to dart forward. Unlike in daylight hours, at night it can be hard to spot hazards or wildlife nearby, so if your dog lunges toward something, you might not have time to react.
Switching to a shorter, fixed-length leash for evening walks gives you far more control.
Related: Vets Say Fall Allergies Can Start Earlier Than You Think—Watch for These Signs
2. Assuming Your Dog Is VisibleEven if you’re wearing reflective gear yourself, Shaw warns against assuming your dog can also be seen. Unless your dog is also wearing reflective gear, they can be hard to spot at night. Shaw points out that your dog should actually be wearing more reflective gear than you are so they can be more visible at night.
3. Getting DistractedTaking a nice stroll around your neighborhood can be a great time to get some much-needed peace. However, Chris Loverseed, founder of PK9 Gear and owner and head trainer of Positive K9 Training in Melbourne, warns dog parents against taking walks with headphones on. If you aren’t listening for cues around you, it’s easy to miss an oncoming cyclist, driver or another pedestrian with their dog.
Essential Safety Gear for Safe Night StrollsIf you’re looking to keep your night strolls safe, these experts recommend keeping a few specific pieces of gear on hand to protect everyone’s safety.
Shaw, Jespersen and Loverseed all agree that the easiest upgrade you can make for your night walks is a reflective leash or LED collar. These items help make your dog easy to spot and helps drivers, cyclists and other pedestrians notice you both from a distance.
All three experts also agree that a hands-free flashlight is a must-have for increased visibility because a hands-free version keeps you from needing to carry yet another item on your walk. Beanies with built-in flashlights are a perfect addition to your evening walk gear too.
Final TakeawaysWhile no one wants tragedy to strike, it’s important to be prepared when things go wrong. Keep your dog’s ID and microchip information up to date to ensure you’re doing everything in your power to keep them safe just in case you do get separated.
Fall evening walks can be a great way to take in the new season, but that doesn’t mean you should let your guard down. The best way to avoid an accident or tragedy is by preventing it from happening in the first place. Adding the right safety gear—like a fixed-length leash, reflective gear for the both of you, and a hands-free flashlight—and staying fully alert is important if you want to keep you and your dog safe when walking at night.

Amazing ‘Piggy Pool Day’ Looks Like an Oinking Good Time
Though summer is officially on its way out, not everyone is willing to let it go just yet. In particular, it seems like animals who love to swim are having a harder time letting the warm weather go!
Here is a trio of pigs who really love to swim, and if anyone is having a hard time saying goodbye to summer, it’s most definitely them. They don’t want to let their beach days go, and after seeing them enjoying their amazing pool day, I don’t want them to end, either:
@justnorthoftown4Unbothered 💅 One of my favorite memories. #ruralliving #bluecollarlife #farmlife #pigs #pigfarming
♬ original sound – DONNA CRUMJust North Of Town, there are some pigs who live on a farm with a pond. Though pigs might not seem like animals who love to swim, they apparently do sometimes! These pigs were having a ball swimming in their pond, which is so blue. That effect is typically achieved using dye, but don’t worry, it’s pig-safe!
They are not given access to the pond often. Ideally, actually, they wouldn’t have access to the pond at all, but they managed to bust out of their own area and go for a swim. How the three, not-so-little pigs managed to get out and into the pond undetected is a mystery, but at least it’s a funny one.
Related: Pig Taken Into Police Custody After Breaking Into Home for Snacks
Don’t worry, the pigs were returned to their habitat unharmed after their heist, but now, the farm has a bigger problem. People are petitioning for the piggies to have full-time pond access! I bet the pigs wouldn’t mind. Once they get theirs, maybe it’ll be time for the ponies to get some pond time, too:
@justnorthoftown4🥹 I said I would never own one, but here we are. He’s not perfect, she’s been bucked off, taken on some wild rides and he’s a.. pony. But building her resilience and confidence every ride. #bluecollarlife #ruralliving #pony #cowgirl #horses
♬ original sound – echo – echoHe takes such good care of the little girl. Don’t you think he deserves a dip in the pond, too? Though maybe before the pigs, who will probably make the water a little muddy …
Can Pigs Swim? The pigs didn’t go into the pond far enough to need to actually swim in this video: they were happy just to walk along the bottom and play in the water. However, that’s part of the reason their caretaker has restricted pond access in the first place: she’s worried for them!
Contrary to what a lot of people are told, pigs are actually great natural swimmers, even when they grow up and become huge. Swimming is also good for them: it keeps them cool, and it provides great exercise that they might not get from standing around a barn or even walking about a field all day.
However, you should be careful and practice water safety:
- Introduce them to the water when they’re young, if possible.
- Always supervise animals while they swim.
- Be ready to haul them out of the water if needed, which can be super difficult.
- Don’t let them swim for too long.
All of that extra body fat basically turns them into giant, oinking buoys. It’s helpful, but it doesn’t mean they’re immune to accidents and drowning. Just be safe, and piggy pool day can really be every day!

Another shopper bought it for their small Boston Terrier and praised the fit.

A Sweater, Not a CostumeThe important difference here is that this is a sweater, not a costume. Warm enough for fall evenings, the sweater is not stiff or scratchy, ensuring it will make even the pickiest dogs love wearing it.
The soft fabric and pullover design make a difference when you want something more than a few cute Halloween photos. It’s also festive without feeling forced, with the jack-o’-lanterns design kept to a minimum.
Picture it: You head out on a crisp afternoon with your dog wearing the sweater. You do not have to adjust it every few minutes; instead, you can both enjoy the stroll. That is the benefit of seasonal clothing that prioritizes design over cuteness.

Australian Shepherd's Gorgeous Two-Toned Coat Makes Her Look Like a Caramel Sundae
Australian Shepherds are such beautiful dogs, and so much of that has to do with their unique coats. With all the different colors and patterns that Aussies can be, it’s hard to find two of these dogs who look exactly the same. But even so, the pup in the TikTok video below still totally takes my breath away.
Meet Mango, the Australian Shepherd whose white and tan colors make her look exactly like a caramel sundae, as one commenter pointed out:

With her distinctly white coat with splashes of caramel brown here and there (including over one of her eyes), it’s hard not to to fall in love with this little lady at first sight!
A commenter first noticed just how much Mango looks like a caramel sundae after watching the video below, in which this precious girl is all snuggled up in her bed, looking adorable. Uh, can we get this girl a bed that looks like an ice cream cup?
Just asking…

What Colors and Patterns Do Australian Shepherds Come In?According to the Australian Shepherd Club of America, there are just a few recognized colors of the breed, which include:
- Blue Merle
- Red (Liver) Merle
- Solid Black
- Solid Liver
From there, each color may or may not have white markings or tan points, which leaves the opportunity of so many varied coats for these beautiful dogs.

When it comes to the merle pattern, it can vary depending on genetics, just like any other element of a dog’s appearance. Some pups are going to have a small patch of merle somewhere on their body, while others will be totally covered in the pattern. You won’t know until your puppy arrives what you’ll get.
Combining all of these different qualities means that a litter of Australian Shepherds can often look like a rainbow, which is really special. As if they weren’t already cute enough!

Adventurous Cat Parents Say This Backpack Fixed Every Problem They Had With Every Other Carrier

Travel Cat the Navigator Convertible Cat Backpack, $124.99 at CostcoCostco
One feature makes a complete difference here. The Travel Cat the Navigator Convertible Cat Backpack is designed for cats to ride inside and also allows them to perch on top when you’ve stopped moving. Cats are naturally curious, and that feature gives them the option to see everything.
Another thing cat parents notice is that the Navigator doesn’t collapse. The internal metal frame keeps the structure solid, whether you wear it as a backpack or lay it flat as a duffle. Your cat has enough room inside to stand, turn, and settle.
The backpack’s dimensions are 10 by 15.4 by 18 inches with a 25-pound limit, which is more than enough for most cats to fit comfortably.
Anxious Cats Will Love ItThe carrier’s three mesh panels are a game changer for anxious cats. Inside, the air can get stale, and they have no idea you are still there with them. That scenario can turn even a calm cat into a frightened one.
The mesh panels that solve the problem allow fresh air to flow through and let your cat take in the scenery.
One reviewer on Costco.com said his cat loved the backpack and sat on top of the carrier. Another said their 13-year-old cat slept through two connecting flights and a 10-hour layover, spending most of the time in a horizontal duffle position.
The Navigator converts from a backpack into a duffle-style carrier. Cat parents can change it depending on their needs.
You can adjust shoulder, chest, and waist straps to distribute weight evenly. On top of it, you will find storage areas for treats, water and other travel essentials. The Travel Cat the Navigator Convertible Cat Backpack is built for real travel.

This 'Genius' Dog Toy Turns Mealtime Into a Hunting Game
Parade Pets aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.
It’s no secret that some dogs simply can’t control the speed at which they devour their food. And while there are plenty of creative solutions to help your furry friend slow down during mealtime, many of them aren’t as effective as you might have hoped they would be.
That’s where Fable comes in with a clever approach to mealtime: The Puffin Game. Retailing for $69, this playful feeder is designed to mimic the experience of hunting prey while holding over 1.5 cups of dry food and tapping into your pet’s natural animal instincts. If you’re still struggling to get your furry friend to slow down, this could be just the tool for the job.

The Puffin Game, $69 at Fable Shop It!Here to help treat anxiety and boredom by providing interactive entertainment for up to thirty minutes at a time, The Puffin Game features a patented design that allows dogs to eat an entire meal as nature intended. Even better, it provides plenty of physical and mental stimulation during mealtime, which can mean more time to yourself that would otherwise be spent trying to get your furball to slow down.
So how does it work? Starting with a weighted base that creates irregular motion to activate a dog’s prey drive, the feeder’s teardrop shape allows it to easily roll end over end, adding another level of excitement to mealtime. Up top, groove-like “fins” give you a spot to spread treats like peanut butter, while a hole on the side allows kibble or treats to spill out as your dog rolls it around.
Where this feeder really shines, however, is in its multiple complexity settings, which let you adjust the challenge based on your dog’s eating habits and effectively make the hole smaller or larger. To adjust, simply unscrew the top and rotate the inner aperture mechanism, then watch as your furry friend turns mealtime into a mini hunting experience.

The Puffin slowed her down from eating in literally 30 seconds to 15 minutes and kept her busy/stimulated.”
Thinking about snatching one up for your pet? You’ll be pleased to learn that it features a silicone exterior for quieter play and a dishwasher-safe design for easy cleanup. It’s also FDA-approved and BPA-free, so you can confidently let your dog go to town without worrying about harmful chemicals or materials. Chihuahua Mix Has a Frighteningly Angry Reaction to a Bell Pepper, and Everyone Is Cracking Up
Dogs often have funny reactions to inanimate objects. My Pug mix is petrified of umbrellas, but has a major beef with balloons. His senior Dachshund sister often has a bone to pick with certain mailboxes if they have a specific shape. It makes no sense, though it’s a bit entertaining.
Spud the Chihuahua mix seems to get set off when she sees different food items and her temper tantrums are legendary.
@spud.the.cryptidshe didn’t eat it
♬ original sound – spud the cryptidIn the TikTok from @spud.the.cryptid, the precious pooch was in a full-on rage toward something small on the floor. At a closer glance, the object of her anger appeared to be a red pepper.
“Spud when she sees a bell pepper,” the on-screen text explained, with the caption adding, “She didn’t eat it.”
The video featured some slow-motion views of Spud in action to fully capture her bulging eyes, snarling teeth, flying hair, lurching head motions, and enraged expressions. It was the canine version of a psychotic break.
A few times, she actually got hold of the pepper in her mouth only to toss it to the floor in disgust. Spud seemed personally offended by the harmless vegetable and sought some sort of revenge.
Followers found the one-sided fight hilarious and posted some comical comments:
- “It’s like she is trying to throw her eyeballs at it,” one pointed out.
- “I believe the pepper owed Spud money,” another suggested.
- “If I was a pepper, I would be scared as hell,” a follower admitted.
- “At this point I would follow her into battle,” someone remarked.
- “That bell pepper better count its days!!” a fan warned.
Chihuahuas still have the reputation for being a bit overly assertive. These tiny pooches pack a lot of personality and they aren’t afraid to show people who’s boss.
Still, each Chihuahua is different and there are reasons why some can be a little more “spirited” than others.
Related: Tiny Chihuahua Puppy Uses Sock for a Sleeping Bag and It’s Too Cute
Chihuahuas that err to the aggressive side may not have been properly socialized. This can cause anxiety when being around strangers and other dogs, which manifests as bad behavior. These pups just need to be introduced slowly to new situations with people and pets so they can gain confidence and feel secure.
These tiny canines are aware of their size and may feel the need to defend themselves through barking, snarling, and growling. Chis can also be territorial, prompting guarding types of behavior.
All of these issues can be modified with proper training, patience, and time. Chihuahuas are highly intelligent and can be taught obedience and calming skills to temper a potentially strong personality.
As for Spud, she may just have to live in a pepper-free home from now on.

German Shepherd Puppy's Tiny Head Tilts Are Sweet Enough to Cause a Cavity
There is almost nothing cuter than talking to a puppy and watching them tilt their little head back and forth like they are desperately trying to figure out what in the world you’re saying. I know they probably aren’t pondering the deeper meaning behind, “Who’s a good baby?” but you will never convince me of that.
And one incredibly fluffy German Shepherd puppy has perfected the move. In an adorable clip, someone talks to the little guy while he repeatedly tilts his head from one side to the other. The head tilts would be sweet enough on their own, but his giant floppy puppy ears swing back and forth along with him, and now I have a cavity.

Is there anything cuter than a German Shepherd puppy girl trying her best? 😭❤️ German Shepherds are so smart, but watching a baby German Shepherd learn can be so funny! How old was your dog when they learned how to shake paws? 👇#germanshepherd #cutepuppy #gsdpuppy #puppytraining #puppydog
♬ son original – BerywamMy sister has always rescued German Shepherds, so I’ve spent a lot of time around this breed. If you asked her about them, I think she’d tell you they’re basically the smartest dogs on the planet.
And she might have a point.
German Shepherds are known for being intelligent, eager to learn, and highly trainable, which is part of the reason they’ve traditionally done everything from police and military work to search and rescue, service work, and competitive dog sports.
That intelligence doesn’t mean a German Shepherd puppy arrives already knowing how to behave, though. They’re still puppies. They’re going to get distracted, test boundaries, and occasionally make decisions that seem completely incompatible with the giant brain you know is hiding inside that fluffy head.
They also tend to need plenty of mental stimulation. Short, positive training sessions can give a German Shepherd puppy something productive to do with all that brainpower while helping build communication between puppy and pet parent.
Early socialization is important, too. Safely introducing puppies to different people, sounds, surfaces, environments, and experiences can help them grow into more confident adults.
Of course, every dog is an individual, and training depends on far more than breed alone. Patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement go a long way with any puppy.
Although with this particular little guy, I’m not sure I’d accomplish much.
I’d say “sit,” he’d tilt his head, those enormous ears would flop sideways, and I’d immediately forget what we were doing.

Tortie Cat Claims Puppy as Her Own and There’s No Arguing With Her
Cats are no strangers to raising babies who are not their own. That might be other kittens, but in a lot of cases, it’s not kittens at all! From opossums to sweet little raccoon babies, cats will care for anyone who needs a little bit of extra love.
For one Tortie cat, it was a puppy who caught her eye. The puppy was in desperate need of someone to care for him, and apparently, she was exactly the person for the job. I’m so glad they’ll be together now:
@spiderfrenchiesI took her out right after this video but she was so gentle with him💕 I was helping the other pups nurse and I turned around to that😭 #motherlyinstincts #frenchbulldog #newbornpuppies #frenchiepuppy #frenchbulldogs
♬ suara asli – 𝙑𝙞𝙨.𝙘𝙤 – 𝙑𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙤Spider Frenchies has a lot of experience raising little French Bulldog puppies with their cat, but this is the first time she’s ever been really interested. She jumped into the whelping box and couldn’t help but claim this puppy as her own.
Even though this is just about the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen in my life, their human caretaker was very responsible about all of it. She took the cat out after a few minutes, and she was watching the entire time the kitty was in the box. All is fine, and now, the puppy has two moms!
Related: Stray Cat Brings Her ‘Rainbow Kittens’ to Woman’s House for Dinner
The Tortie cat may have decided she was the Frenchie puppy’s mom, but he does also have a real mom who loves him just as much. She’s teaching her babies everything she knows, including how to take baths:
@spiderfrenchiesFirst bath time💕 #frenchbulldog #frenchiepuppy #newbornpuppies #whelping #frenchie
♬ Love You – David Souza Guitar & Ted D’souza & ChillØut & Dani AudiomixShe led the way with bathtime, and I’m glad we got to see her. Look at her stunning eyes! As they get older, I hope some of her puppies will inherit them, too.
Raising Puppies With CatsIf you’ve ever seen a cartoon before, you know that it’s common to see dogs and cats not getting along. While it is true that not every cat is dog-friendly, and vice versa, there are plenty of dogs and cats who get along great.
If you have puppies, you don’t have to raise them with cats, but it definitely wouldn’t hurt, especially if your ultimate goal is to get them adopted. Puppies who are raised with cats are typically:
- Calmer around cats.
- Gentler.
- More “desirable” to prospective adopters.
A puppy who can safely cohabitate with a cat opens them up to a much larger market, which increases their chances of getting adopted. Luckily, this puppy was going to grow up loving cats no matter what!

Rare Tortie Smoke European Maine Coon Kitten Looks Like She's Wearing a Wet Suit
Maine Coon kittens come in a variety of cool-looking coat colors and patterns. They’re all perfect, but some are born with a little extra sparkle that makes them clear standouts.
One European Maine Coon kitten’s rare Tortie Smoke fur will take your breath away. The collection of vibrant Halloween-inspired colors has the most unique face-framing pattern that makes her look like she’s wearing a wet suit:
@valormainecoonsIsn’t she perfect?! 😍 #cat #halloweencat #catfyp
♬ original sound – bunanashak3Valor Maine Coons knows how to produce some seriously gorgeous kitties, and this little lady is the perfect example. The stunning Tortie swirl in hues of black, burnt orange, and warm, spicy brown makes for a really pretty frame to the snow-white fur on her face. And don’t get me started on those icy blue eyes that look a little translucent—she’s just too beautiful (and ready for a dip in the pool)!
Related: Huge Maine Coon Kitten With Leg-Like Arms Looks Like a Grumpy Pixar Character
This kitten may be the only one whose coat resembles a wet suit, but she isn’t the only good-looking cat in the house.
There’s another fall-inspired Maine Coon with an equally epic color palette, but lighter. It’s almost like this princess is what came out when mama cat’s ink ran low on color:
@valormainecoonsHelp me name my new girl 😻 #namehelp #mainecoon #cat
♬ original sound – Nostalgia LibraryWhether the oranges, grays, and blacks are bold or painted with a lighter touch, all of these kittens are special in their own way.
What Makes a ‘Smoke’ Coat So Unique? It’s quite a rarity to produce a litter of Smoke Maine Coon kittens because of what it takes to create such a mosaic masterpiece. As with any color palette, it comes down to genetics.
The striking contrast, as seen in the Tortie girl above, is what happens when the dominant silver inhibitor gene blocks pigment production at the hair’s root, leaving the tips darker. Comparable to the way we might go to the salon for balayage or highlights, these felines are a real sight to behold.
The final “smoke” result is somewhat of a magical illusion you can really see only when the cat moves or their hair parts. You may think they look like a solid color one minute, and a different base when the light hits the fur. Some doubly special Maine Coons even have “ghost” Tabby markings that change or evolve over the years.
Whatever Valor Maine Coons does to create the wet suit or faded-ink look, these are some jaw-dropping babes!

Golden Retriever ‘Sock Stealer’ Boldly Steals Them While Guests Are Still Wearing Them
Golden Retrievers love socks. There is no getting around that: if you ever want to get one of these dogs, you’re going to have to be okay with that fact. If you can’t be, you’re going to want to choose another breed. Even the best-trained Golden Retrievers are still going to steal some socks from time to time.
This Golden Retriever is taking that a little more seriously than most others, though. He loves socks, and he has a little bit of a problem with patience, so he’s taken to stealing socks straight from the source:
@cuzco.the.goldenReplying to @kendall_2807 Literally no one is safe around here 😭 #goldenretriever #dogmom #funnydog
♬ original sound – Cuzco the GoldenCuzco the Golden makes sure all of his guests feel welcome, but he makes it known that he also feels welcome to their socks. I love the method he’s got going on here, hiding under a chair and snipping their socks when they least expect it. This way, he can duck and hide!
Would you reach under there to get your sock from him? I wouldn’t! At just over a year old, Cuzco is still in his puppy phase. This is when he bites everything, and his teeth feel so much sharper than they do when he’s older!
Related: Mom Gets Golden Retriever a ‘Bubble-Blowing Baby’ Brother — and He Joins Right in
It might look like he only does this when his mom has guests over, but don’t worry: he subjects her to this search and seizure, too. His favorite kind of socks seems to be ankle socks, which makes sense:
@cuzco.the.goldenMy little sock thief 😌🤍 #goldenretriever #dogmom #funnydog
♬ original sound – Cuzco the GoldenThey’re the easiest to get off of people’s feet before they can yell at you. Don’t worry: his mom corrects the behavior, especially when there are guests around, but it’s only human nature to let cute bad habits go sometimes, okay?!
Why Do Dogs Steal Socks?Golden Retrievers aren’t the only dogs who steal socks. In fact, it’s pretty standard procedure for most dogs to at least go through a sock-stealing phase, if not spend their whole life stealing socks.
Dogs steal socks because they smell like us, and most often, they’re the most concentrated version of our scent. Think about it! Your socks are:
- Free of heavy artificial fragrance.
- Walking all over the ground, picking up different smells.
- Typically sweaty, even if it doesn’t feel like it.
Even if you can’t smell anything coming from your socks, your dog can. They’re thinking, “Oh, this smells like the person I love!” Or, in Cuzco’s case, “This smells like someone I’d love to steal from!”

Elderly Dachshund Bebops Around Just Like Forky From 'Toy Story'
There is something about an elderly dog suddenly getting a burst of puppy energy that gets me every single time. One minute they’re snoozing peacefully, and the next they’re tearing through the living room like someone just replaced their 15-year-old joints with brand new ones.
Peanut the Dachshund is 18 years old, but apparently nobody has informed her that she’s supposed to slow down. In an adorable video shared by her family, this tiny senior lady gets a serious case of the zoomies and starts bee bopping around the living room. And the way she moves looks hilariously similar to Forky from Toy Story.
@madisondawnmauchCould she be anymore perfect? 🥹 #dachshundsoftiktok #seniordog #olddog #dachshund
♬ Originalton – Leo🌿The precious video was shared to the TikTok account for @Madisondawnmauch. If you remember Forky, he’s the makeshift craft character Bonnie creates from a plastic spork, pipe cleaners, googly eyes and assorted craft supplies. He’s adorable, but he’s not exactly known for moving with the grace of a gazelle.
Neither is Peanut.

Her tiny legs carry her enthusiastically around the room while the rest of her body seems to be figuring out the details as she goes. She’s having a fantastic time, and that’s really all that matters.
People immediately fell in love with her unusual little running style.
“She moves like Forky from Toy Story! So adorable,” one person wrote.
Another had a different but equally accurate comparison: “She’s like a clay stop motion figure and I’m obsessed.”
Someone else informed everyone that “old dog zoomies are called skeekadles,” which may not be an official scientific term, but I am adopting it immediately.
And plenty of people were simply emotional about seeing an 18-year-old dog having so much fun.
“Stop this made me EMOTIONAL,” one viewer wrote. “She is so cute, thanks for sharing this video. Can you tell her that I love her?”
Another declared, “Stoppppp I love her precious self so much.”
Same. Please inform Peanut that several thousand strangers are now emotionally invested in her happiness.
How to Make an Elderly Dog’s Life the Best @allthefosterpupsA little senior dog serotonin for your feed today. Clear the Shelters is still going all month long, and adoption fees are waived at Muttville Senior Dog Rescue in San Francisco through the end of August. If you’ve been thinking about adding a senior pup to your family, this is your sign.
♬ original sound – Lisa fosters senior dogs 🐶Watching Peanut joyfully scoot around at 18 is also a lovely reminder that senior dogs can still have plenty of fun. The activities they enjoy might change as they age, but their lives don’t have to become boring.
Comfort becomes especially important. Soft beds, warm sleeping spots, and easy access to their favorite places can make everyday life easier. If getting onto the sofa or bed has become difficult, pet stairs or a ramp may help, depending on your dog’s mobility and what your veterinarian recommends.
Gentle mental stimulation matters, too. Sniffing games, easy food puzzles, and leisurely walks where your dog gets plenty of time to investigate every fascinating blade of grass can provide enrichment without requiring tons of physical exertion.
Regular veterinary care is also particularly important for senior dogs. Changes in appetite, mobility, sleep, behavior, or bathroom habits can sometimes signal an underlying issue rather than simply being part of getting older.
Most of all, pay attention to what your individual dog still loves. Maybe that’s a slow stroll around the block. Maybe it’s lying in a patch of sunshine. Maybe it’s sitting beside you on the sofa while you watch TV.
Or, if you’re Peanut, perhaps it’s suddenly launching yourself across the living room like an animated spork and reminding everyone that you’ve still got places to be.

Maine Coon Kitten’s Different-Colored Eyes Look Like a Gorgeous Fall Sunset
I’m so excited for fall to be here. Heat is so evil, and I just love pumpkin spice! Prematurely, I suppose, I’m trying to get ready for fall, but one Maine Coon kitten is already beating me to it.
Her eyes are two different colors, and together, they look like the most incredible fall sunset. This Maine Coon kitten easily has some of the prettiest eyes in the whole world, and she’s festive:

Other than her eyes, this pretty girl is a pretty standard color: a grey Tabby with some brown mixed in. Her fluffy ears already rival some adults, and as she gets older, they’re only going to get fluffier! I can’t wait to see what she looks like when she grows up!

♬ sonido original – DUNCANK – DUNCANKThis one is one of my favorites. Her eyes might be the same color, but they’re still so unique: they have a black rim around them. I’ve never seen anything quite like it before!
What Does Two Different-Colored Eyes Mean For Cats? This kitten has one brown and one blue eye. It’s called heterochromia, and while rare, it does happen occasionally, especially in certain dog breeds like Huskies. For cats, though, heterochromia occurs in less than 1% of births.
As far as heterochromia actually impacting your cat in any meaningful way, it often won’t. Heterochromia can be linked to deafness in some cases, but typically only in white cats. What it might impact, however, is:
- Availability: if you’re searching for a heterochromic kitten, they’re hard to find.
- Price: when they do happen, catteries tend to drive up their prices.
If you do find one, consider yourself lucky! They’re rare, amazing, and in this sweet girl’s case, perfect for fall!

Gorgeous Maine Coon Kitten Getting Repeatedly Thwacked by Dog Tail Refuses to Move an Inch
I’m not sure this stunning Maine Coon kitten is enjoying being smacked repeatedly by the dog’s wagging tail, but she doesn’t look like she’s not enjoying it either. As the curly-haired pooch unknowingly thwacks the cat with the force and rhythm of a metronome, the lounging kitten remains in the strike zone, perhaps discovering the benefits of the most aggressive massage a feline has ever experienced.
@dieselthemainecoonGetting absolutely thwacked by the dog’s tail and just vibing. 😂 Baby Maine Coon energy is unmatched.#fyp #cat #animals #mainecoon #kitten
♬ Funny Pets – GVM-40It looks like the dog might also be sitting on top of the kitten, which makes this scene all the more funny. Not only is this baby staying put for the tail assault, but she’s also enjoying a stint as a couch cushion.
Viewers seem wholly unconcerned with her sadistic tendencies, but instead are focused on just how beautiful she is. From the looks of it, this is a tortoiseshell Maine Coon with a multi-colored, mottled coat and the breed’s signature long hair and tufted ears.
“She is a beautiful baby,” remarks one of many fans of this striking feline.

Signs Your Cat Is Comfortable Around Your DogClearly, this kitten has no issue with being up close and personal with the family dog, but I imagine it has taken some time for both pets to acclimate. How do you know if your cat is “vibing” with your dog? Here are five signs that your cat is comfortable around your dog (and spoiler alert, this kitten is the poster feline for all of them):
- A cat who feels unsafe makes himself small and keeps his feet under him, ready to leave. A comfortable cat does the opposite — stretched out long, belly loose, paws dangling off the furniture, and eyes half-closed.
- Bonded pets take the same couch, the same bed, the same patch of afternoon sun without anyone posturing about it.
- Sleep is when an animal is most vulnerable, so a cat who dozes off back-to-back with the family dog is making a real statement about trust.
- Nobody makes a cat follow a dog around. If yours turns up wherever the dog is — trailing him to the door, appearing for his snack time, supervising his naps — that’s a cat who has decided the dog is good company.
- Play that stays playful is huge. Paw taps, tail flicks, a little mutual chasing, a dog’s gentle nudge answered rather than fled. Curiosity without overexcitement is the goal, and no one ending up cornered.

Golden Retriever Puppy’s Adorable ‘Blueberry Mustache’ Gives Him Away After Fruit Goes Missing
I can always tell when my dogs have been up to mischief, and it always involves food. They’ll get into something that’s off limits and then scatter before getting caught. My senior Dachshund avoids eye contact at all costs because the guilty look on her face speaks for itself. Her Pug brother “confesses” right up front and begs for forgiveness with his eyes. I don’t think they would get far pursuing a life of crime.
Kona is an adorable Golden Retriever puppy who helped herself to a snack but wasn’t able to hide the evidence.
@itsmisskonabearGuilt as charged: eating all da blueberries that fell out of the fridge #goldenretrieverpup #puppiesofinstagram #dogsofinstagram #goldenretrieverlife #puppydog
♬ original sound – Kora and Koda🐾📚In the TikTok from @itsmisskonabear, Kona stared into the camera and attempted to look nonchalant. Yet the mock goatee of blueberry stains around her mouth was a dead giveaway that the precious pooch had helped herself to some produce.
“I wonder who ate the blueberries, but it’s definitely not the pup with the blueberry mustaches,” the on-screen text noted, with the caption adding, “Guilt as charged: eating all da blueberries that fell out of the fridge.”
Kona’s adorably innocent expression made it almost impossible to take her to task. Though the evidence of her blueberry burglary was literally written all over her face, Kona was just too cute to resist.
Followers advocated for the fruit-loving fur baby and came up with some other potential causes of the light blueberry beard:
- “It’s not a blueberry mustache, it’s a birthmark,” one pointed out.
- “Perhaps the pup bit the person who ate the blueberries??” another suggested.
- “My dog says Kona was with him at the time the crime happened,” a follower noted.
- “If they spilled onto the floor she was simply helping with clean up! Such a good pup,” someone posted.
- “I’m her attorney and we move for a mistrial on account of adorability!!” a fan remarked.
Blueberries are safe for most dogs and bring numerous nutritional benefits. Packed with antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, blueberries can be enjoyed by canines as long as it’s in moderation.
Related: 3-Legged Golden Retriever Puppy Learning to Navigate Life Has Everyone Cheering
Avoid canned, sweetened, flavored, or syrup-packed blueberries since the extra sugar and other ingredients can be harmful for dogs. Too many blueberries can cause digestive upset, so be sure to introduce them slowly and always give small amounts based on your dog’s size.
Kona obviously wants to add blueberries to her daily diet, though her mom should definitely keep them out of reach!
