Melissa Gilbert Reveals 'Amazing' Coincidence Involving Her Birth Mother
Little House on the Prairie star Melissa Gilbert just revealed an "amazing" coincidence she discovered about her birth mother.
On Wednesday, May 27, the former child actress who played Laura Ingalls Wilder in the original historical drama series took to Instagram with a cool tidbit of information that connects her to her birth mom.
Gilbert, 62, was adopted by actors Paul Gilbert and Barbara Cowan one day after she was born to her biological parents, Frances Catherineanne (Cathy) Wood, a dancer, and David Darlington, a stock car racer and musician.
In her post, Gilbert explained that she learned from a biological cousin that her bio mom also started performing at a young age.
"This was part of my birth mom, Cathyâs, engagement announcement to her first husband, a man named Leslie R Mullins," she captioned the post. "Iâm guessing he is the father of my three older half siblings who I am now one teeny step closer to finding."
Gilbert continued, "Anyway, thereâs even more synchronicity hereâŠshe was a performer who started as a child! She was 3 1/2 at her first professional performance. I was two when I did my first commercial. Was I ever born with the right set of genes and then adopted by the exactly perfect family. This is so amazing."

In the snippet from her bio mother's engagement announcement, it read, "The bride-to-be has appeared on many programs in Los Angeles as well as elsewhere in Southern California. She made her dramatic debut at the age of three and a half when she was made honorary colonel of Will Rogers Post 539 of the American Legion."
Gilbert has previously opened up about her birth parents, including the story of how she came to be placed for adoption.
"They were each married to other people and had three children each, and ran off together, and conceived me on a motorcycle trip in the desert," she told her Little House on the Prairie costar, Patrick Labyoreaux, during a July 2025 interview on his podcast. "And then they left their spouses for each other, and got married after, pregnant with me, and moved all the kids in so that I was number seven. So the decision was made to put me up for adoption."
Little House on the Prairie aired for nine seasons from 1974 to 1983.
What do you think of both Gilbert and her bio mom making their performance debuts at a very young age?

Iconic '80s Rocker Announces Exciting Update to Summer Tour
Hey, little sister, what will you be doing this summer? If you're a Billy Idol fan, the correct answer is buying tickets to see him in concert.
The 70-year-old rock icon added 17 shows across the US in August and September for the summer leg of the "It's a Nice Day to... Tour Again!" tour, which was announced on April 7. The tour kicks off in Scranton, Pennsylvania, on August 7 and ends in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on September 22.
On Wednesday, May 27, Idol also revealed that a handful of special guests would be joining him for the special dates, writing on Instagram, "'Itâs A Nice Day ToâŠTour Again!' continues this summer and Iâm excited to share that weâve added @clubdevo @susannahoffs @villanellemusic and @grocerybag.tx to the tour đđŒ see you all out there soon!"
View this post on InstagramThe tour dates follow Idol's energetic performance at the American Music Awards on Monday, May 25, 2026. The "Mony Mony" singer was honored that evening with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Idol took the stage on Monday night to play "Eyes Without a Face" and "Dancing With Myself" alongside his longtime guitarist, Steve Stevens.
During Idol's speech, he told fans, "When I started out in punk rock back in 1976, we thought it may last about six months, let alone 50 years! We were doing it for the love and because music was the only thing that gave us a sort of feeling of freedom."
Idol was then presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award by Leon Thomas, marking what has become a monumental year for the British rocker. Earlier this year, he and his guitarist were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as part of the Class of 2026.
He's also been on tour since April 2025, with the first stop in Phoenix, Arizona, on April 30, 2025, when he co-headlined with Joan Jett and the Blackhearts.
The 9 Muppet Easter Eggs You Missed on Disneyâs Newest Coaster
The legacy of the Muppets is deeply ingrained in the fiber of Disneyâs Hollywood Studios, back to its opening in 1989 (look up the never built Great Muppet Movie Ride, youâre welcome). So, itâs only fitting that theyâre finally getting their long overdue respect and representation (in my humble opinion) in a big way with the Rock ânâ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets, now open at Walt Disney World.Â
And with a lore so deep, the attraction is rich with Easter eggs in the form of memorabilia, props and more that pay homage to former attractions (hello, Muppet*Vision 3D) and various television and film specials.Â
Inside the reimagined "G-Force Records" building, the rideâs queue and pre-show are treasure troves of hidden details. In fact, thereâs over 100, making the pre-riding experience just as thrilling as the coaster itself. For fans, itâs a fitting love letter to the beloved characters from Walt Disney Imagineering and The Muppets Studio.Â
âItâs been an honor to figure out how to take the classic Rock ânâ Roller Coaster attraction, which we want to honor and pay tribute to, and all the magic of the Muppetsâ history in the park and put it together,â Dani Iglesias, creative director of The Muppets Studio, tells PARADE. âBut also, do something new, because nobody really wants to walk through a museum.âÂ
From Kermitâs famous banjo to ârat pizza,â here at the 9 Muppet Easter eggs you missed on Disneyâs newest coaster.

Upon entering G-Force Records, youâll pass a curated gallery case. Here, youâll find a recreation of Kermitâs banjo from âThe Rainbow Connection.â The original is sitting safely inside the Walt Disney Archives and was donated by The Muppets Studio.Â

You know it, you love it. Itâs affectionately called âRat Pizzaâ and fans of the Muppets are still mourning the closure of Disneyâs Hollywood Studiosâ PizzeRizzo, the legendary quick service pizza joint inspired from the lovable Rizzo the Rat. Throughout the attraction, thereâs several homages, including a branded pizza box in the pre-show and a âNow Hiring!â flier near the loading area. Thereâs also a PizzeRizzo apron in the queue and a towering neon sign during the roller coaster portion.
How about some backstage passes?Carly Caramanna
Fans of Aerosmith may be a little salty towards this refresh but donât worry, thereâs several homages to the original attraction, including script in the pre-show inspired by the very iconic lines from the Aerosmith version (âyou know how we feel about our fansâ). Also in the pre-show scene, youâll find the âblack Les Paulâ from G-Force Records. And near the loading zone's queue for the front row, look for a small display case with fliers, including one referencing the line âmake it a super stretch?â

Near loading within a Great Gonzo display, you may spot the very same Mona Lisa portrait that once hung in Mama Melroseâs, the former Italian table service restaurant that closed to make way for the parkâs new âMonsters, Inc.â-inspired land.Â

Muppet*Vision 3D was a beloved film-based attraction that marked Jim Hensonâs final project before his passing. And the iconic attraction lives on with references throughout this new ride. Near the loading zone in the rideâs single rider queue, you might spot a missing personsâ flier for the âLost Bunny,â a.k.a. Bean Bunny, an integral character in the much-missed attraction.

One of the most famed props from Muppet*Vision 3D, the Great Gonzoâs cannon, played a major role in the attraction, famously blasting Swedish Chef. Itâs now found a new home in the coasterâs queue, and youâll spot it just before the loading zone in a section honoring the Great Gonzo himself.
Muppet Mobile Lab View this post on InstagramThe fan-favorite Muppet Mobile Lab, which has previously called Disney California Adventure, EPCOT, and Hong Kong Disneyland home, sits adjacent to the coaster's loading dock (and it's the real version!). The free-roaming, audio-animatronic is a creation from Walt Disney Imagineering, featuring Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker as they spontaneously interacted with park goers. (Bring it back Disney, pretty please).

Also at the end of the attraction, youâll want to look back towards the coaster and up. Here, youâll spot the portrait of Jim Henson that was originally hung in the pre-show of Muppet*Vision 3D.
'American Idol' Winner Hannah Harper Has a Song She's Been Writing for Years. Here's Why She Can't Finish It (Exclusive)
American Idolwinner Hannah Harper won her Golden Ticket to Hollywood with an original song she wrote about postpartum depression called âString Cheese,â and it made her an early favorite of judge Carrie Underwood, but also America.
She later performed another original, âMarried to This Town,â which she co-wrote, but she exclusively explained to Parade why she prefers solo writing.
âWriting is like speed dating,â Hannah said. âYou go in, you meet people, and you have to hurry up and tell them all about yourself. So when we got [to Nashville], they were like, âWhat's your name, where you from?â and I was doing all the things, I said, âI wasn't born into that town. I was married into it.â He was like, âThat's our song.ââ
So, Hannah and Nashville songwriters Scott Stepakoff and Chris Mackey stopped sharing personal information and wrote that song, and it was fine, but it made Hannah realize that she prefers writing alone, because the whole speed dating aspect of it doesnât really give her enough time to get to know someone on a level that is conducive to the kinds of songs she wants to write.
âI want to write songs that are sentimental and mean a lot to me, so maybe writing alone is what I prefer unless it's with a group of people that I write with consistently,â she continued. âIf I found a couple of people that I wrote with and wrote with them long term, I think I would really enjoy it rather than we're going to put you with these people and then over here, and then over here. It's a relationship and it's somewhat intimate, so I want to be able to maintain the sentimental establishment of the song and how it's written.â
Luke Bryan, Hannah Harper, Carrie Underwood, Lionel RichieDisney/Eric McCandless
And speaking of sentimental songs, Hannah says she has had a song in the works for a long time that she wants to dedicate to her husband Devon Mendenhall, but finding the words has been difficult.
âThat has been in the works for so long, but it just feels like words aren't enough if that makes sense,â Hannah explained. âI have like six verses, different tunes, none of them have been finished, so I'm hoping that now that we're out of [American Idol], because that put us to the test. We were both so exhausted mentally, physically, all the things, so it definitely needs to happen and I know that it will. It's just it's one of those that I feel like I can't even begin to scratch the surface on a love song that is ours.â
Related: Hannah Harper Reveals What Carrie Underwood Advised Her After American Idol Win (Exclusive)
Some people may think that âMarried to This Townâ is a song dedicated to Devon, but itâs not.
âIt was influenced definitely by our relationship, but it's not as much of a love song for him; it's more of a love song about the town, so I'll get there,â she said. Then added, âHe needs a whole catalog of songs, but as I said, it just doesn't feel like I can ever put words to even scratch the surface of what he means to me.â
Also on the songwriting agenda for Hannah are songs inspired by her Idol experience.
âBeing there definitely sparked a lot of creativity, but I didn't have any time to slow down and put pen to paper, so I haven't written anything since I've been in the competition,â she said. âIt was more so just developing who I wanted to be as an artist rather than songwriting. That was my focus. Now that I'm out, I'll definitely be writing some songs about it. There's a lot more Mama songs. I don't know if I need to just hold on to those and do a full album one day, or like trickle them in throughout, but yeah, there's so much to be said about the Idol experience. But as I said, time hasn't slowed down long enough for me to focus and even try to put it into words.â

Politicians Are Floating a $12K Payout to Seniors and Families. Will You Qualify?
As the costs of essentials continue to climb, politicians are starting to feel the heat from constituents looking for relief. Now, Bernie Sanders thinks he may have a plan, and he's traveling the country trying to get others on board.
He's been sharing his idea during his "Fighting Oligarchy" tour, and he seems to be gaining traction among those who think a one-time $12,000 stimulus injection for a family of four is a great idea. If you're curious to learn more about itâincluding whether or not you and your family would qualify for the stipendâkeep reading.
Bernie Sanders Wants to Pay Families $12,000According to Newsweek, Sanders has been sharing his idea as part of a push for more progressive candidates to take up economic reform to address the wealth inequalityplaguing the nation.
Sanders is working with Representative Ro Khanna on the idea, which was submitted to the House of Representatives as part of the Make Billionaires Pay Their Fair Share Act. If passed, the bill would:
- Include a direct payment of up to $12,000 to qualifying families
- Institute a higher tax for billionaires
- Mandate investments in programs that support working-class families, including education and healthcare
Related: You're Probably Making This Money-Costing Mistake With Your Credit Card
"What we are talking about is not radical. What is radical is when so few have so much," Sanders was quoted as saying. "It is not radical to say that we should not have the highest rate of childhood poverty of almost any nation, and that so many of our seniors live in economic despair."
Who Will Qualify for PaymentsAccording to Sanders' website, the bill would mandate $3,000 direct deposits to every family member living in a home, as long as they make less than $150,000 a year. The bill applies to every single family member, meaning the frequently cited "$12,000 for a family of four" on Sanders' website is simply illustrative math, not a hard legal cap on larger households.
"At a time of unprecedented income and wealth inequality, this legislation demands that the billionaire class in America finally pay their fair share of taxes so that we can create an economy that works for all of us, not just the 1 percent,â Sanders said in a statement on his website. "We can no longer tolerate a corrupt tax code that enables billionaires to pay a lower tax rate than the average worker."

The suggestion comes at a time when others are seeking new ways to support working-class families, including Jeff Bezos, who recently proposed that people shouldn't be forced to pay income taxes if they earn less than a certain amount. Whether any of these ideas will gain any real momentum with lawmakers remains to be seen, but for now, it's clear that something has to be done to help support these families, especially as the costs of everything continue to rise with no clear end in sight.

Gayle King Recalls the Moment She Found Her Husband Cheating With Her Close Friend
Gayle King is looking back on the moment she discovered her husband was cheating on her with a close friend.
King, 71, appeared on the Wednesday, May 27, episode of the âCall Her Daddyâ podcast with Alex Cooper and reflected on the moment in 1990 when she returned home after a flight was canceled, only to discover that her then-husband, William G. Bumpus, was having an affair. To make matters worse, the woman was in her home at the time.
âThe alarm was set, which I thought, âThatâs strange, because youâre in here by yourself,ââ King said. âYouâre a big ass, grown ass man. He never sets the alarm. And next thing I know, he comes flying out of the room and heâs got a towel on," King shared.
Her husband told her âthereâs somebody in" the house, so she started searching to find out who it was, "oblivious" to what he was telling her.
âI didnât believe him,â she noted. âI get down and there they are â or there she is cowering behind the door in my towel. It was a nice bath sheet... I said, âI canât believe that you are here and that you are doing this.ââ
The children were outside with their nanny and clueless about what was happening inside.
âI was thinking, âThe kids are here, I donât want anybody to know,ââ said King. âThat was my main thought, âI donât want anybody to know.â That would not happen to me today.â
Check out King's interview on Call Her Daddy below:
The Warning SignsWhen it comes to signs that her marriage was in trouble, King shared that she was "happy."
âYou know how they say the wife always knows? I swear to God I did not. I did not,â she said. âItâs not like we hadnât had arguments or anything, but I didnât think that it was such disrepair that he was boinking around.â
However, there was a moment between her then-husband and the woman he cheated with that made her think twice.
âI always say if I was writing a book, the first line in my book would be, âWhack,â the sound of a tennis ball. She said, âNice shot, Bill.â The way she said it, there was such an intimacy in her voice,â King shared. âThe hair stood up on the back of my neck and I thought, âWhy am I feeling that way?â It was weird.â
The couple, who share two children, divorced in 1993.

And while the internet is filled with plenty of tricks and tips to optimize your shopping experience, a successful TJâs haul still takes practice, repetition and a true dedication to finding the best deals in a timely manner. Only then can you leave the store with exactly what you need and your dignity still intact.Â
That said, an important part of the process is learning how to identify the best deals in Trader Joeâs meat aisle. Often overshadowed by popular ready-made meals, seasonal snacks and viral freezer favorites, the meat section offers plenty of worthwhile options of its own. Whether youâre looking for bulk cuts of meat or something pre-seasoned and marinated for convenience, there are plenty of deals to be discovered if you know what to look for at Trader Joe's.
đđSIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletterđłđ
In honor of dialing in your Trader Joeâs shopping experience, we put together a list of nine hacks for identifying the best deals in the Trader Joeâs meat department. Rather than simply pointing you toward products you should try, these tips are designed to streamline your grocery haul while sharpening your ability to spot unbeatable deals fast.
9 Hacks for Finding the Best Deals in the Trader Joe's Meat Aisle View this post on InstagramLike many of Trader Joeâs popular finds, thereâs a method to staying stocked up on your favorites without skipping a beat. And while the meat aisle may feel less magical to explore than other sections of the store, there are still plenty of exciting TJ's meat products to try, plus ways to save if you know where to look. Hereâs how to stay on top of the process and leave the store with exactly what you need.
1. Shop Tuesday or Wednesday Mornings View this post on InstagramNo matter which location is your local Trader Joe's, youâve likely experienced longer-than-desired lines when waiting to check out. And while wait times can vary depending on the time of day, the least crowded times to shop are typically Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.Â
With this info in mind, you can time your trip with TJâs mid-week restocking schedule, giving you better access to freshly packaged meats and new items as they hit shelves, along with first dibs on the best-priced items for your budget.
2. Look for Unadvertised Bulk BuysWhile Trader Joeâs isnât selling items in bulk like your local Costco, there are still plenty of larger-pack options available if you know what to look for. Family-sized packs of center-cut filet mignon, chicken thighs, pork chops and more are often priced competitively and packaged easy to portion for meal prep, easy dinners and beyond.
3. Use Pre-Marinated Meats for Cheaper Weeknight Dinners View this post on InstagramWhere TJâs meat aisle really shines is in its delicious selection of pre-marinated meats, perfect for streamlining the cooking process and cutting down on prep time. Items like Al Pastor Diced Pork Shoulder, Savory Herbed Chicken Thighs and Santa Maria Boneless Beef Tri-Tip Roast all come in clutch when you want an easy, flavorful dinner without having to spend extra on spices, seasonings or marinades.
4. Skip Overpriced Staples You Can Find Cheaper Elsewhere View this post on InstagramFood prices have been on the rise for some time now, and Trader Joeâs is no exception to the trend. Certain fresh cuts of meat, like marbled ribeye steak, can be pricier than what youâll find at Costco or traditional supermarkets, often without the added benefit of a butcher counter or custom cut selection. In these cases, buying those cuts at Trader Joeâs works for a one-off splurge, but youâll usually get better value sticking with family-pack options or shopping elsewhere when youâre trying to stretch your budget.
5. Buy Seasonal Meat Items When You First See Them @danielles_eatsCan't believe I've never tried the Pollo Asado from Trader Joes! đź The flavor is DELISH and it's easy to cook -- you can bake it like I did or I've heard grilling it is best! The chicken is sliced super thin so it's perfect for tacos/quesadillas/salads basiclsly anytning!! It's def going to be a regular thing I buy now. DIRECTIONS: - Slice peppers and onions and toss in olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, cayenne pepper and cumin. - Add chicken to same sheet pan and bake on 375°F for 15 min. Take chicken out and cook veggies for another 10-15 min (until desired doneness) - Slice chicken and assemble fajitas on a warm tortilla with chicken, peppers and onions, cheese, plain Greek yogurt (or sour cream), guacamole and cilantro.
⏠girls like me don't cry (Sped Up) - thuyThis generally applies to every seasonal Trader Joeâs find, but itâs especially important when it comes to popular releases. Not every seasonal item is a hit, but when it is, it tends to move fast, especially once it starts getting attention online. Whether itâs affordably priced pre-marinated chicken thighs or a seasonal take on Carne Asada Autentica, if you find yourself thinking, âIâll just grab it next week,â thereâs a good chance itâll be gone by your next visit and wonât return until itâs back in season.

6. Stock Up and Freeze Your Favorite Recurring ItemsPiggybacking on tip #5, when it comes to recurring favorites, especially the deals youâve identified as the best, donât miss the opportunity to stock up when you find something you use regularly. Trader Joeâs is notorious for rotating inventory and discontinuing items without warning, and it's never fun to see something you love go away.
While staples like ground beef or turkey, chicken tenderloins, chicken breasts, steaks and pork chops are usually easy to find, it only takes one change in rotation for a favorite item to quietly disappear. If your freezer has the space, fill that sucker up with your favorite meat aisle deals so you never skip a beat.
7. Pay Extra Attention to Labeling on Grass-Fed Beef View this post on InstagramThis tip applies to both the freezer food section and the meat cooler, especially for shoppers looking for a grass-fed alternative to the ground beef selection: Pay extra attention to labeling on grass-fed beef, and donât assume all grass-fed beef is equal.
Trader Joeâs generally carries a small variety of grass-fed options, but savvy shoppers are learning to read labels carefully. If you specifically want fully pasture-raised beef, look for packaging that says â100% grass-fedâ or âgrass-fed and grass-finished.â Some products may only say âgrass-fed,â which means the cattle were likely grain-finished later on in the process.
That said, items like Trader Joeâs Organic Ground Beef 85/15 are priced competitively compared to similar options at Walmart and offer a solid balance of quality and value.
8. Unsure About an Item? Ask an EmployeePart of the charm of shopping at Trader Joeâs is its employees. Knowledgeable and friendly, you can pull a wealth of information from them by simply asking a question. And while the meat aisle isnât exactly the place to put the TJâs in-store sampling policy to use, the idea still stands: you can learn a lot about a product before buying it.
When it comes to identifying the best deals in the meat aisle, this is one of the easiest shortcuts available. An employee can often point you toward whatâs worth buying, whatâs on rotation and what actually delivers the best bang for your buck.
9. Take Advantage of Trader Joeâs Return PolicyOften underappreciated and one of the retailerâs most useful perks, the Trader Joeâs return policy is unlike most grocery stores. While the âTry Anythingâ policy comes in handy in-store with snacks, cheeses and certain produce finds, on occasion you may still bring home an item and realize that it just isnât for you.
Whether youâve tried a new pack of chicken thighs for meal prep, took a gamble on a new pre-marinated option or simply picked up a bad batch of meat, Trader Joeâs has your back with a very lenient return policy. Thereâs no jumping through hoops required, no receipt necessary and you can even return something partially eaten or get your money back for something you simply just realized you didnât need.
In the search for the best meat aisle deals, these tips are game changers that lend themselves to the trial and error process of grocery shopping. At Trader Joeâs, selection is constantly rotating and evolving based on seasons, food trends and demand, which determines how long something stays in stock. And while a good deal means saving money on your groceries, sometimes it simply means not having to make an extra stop at another store just to save a couple dollars on meat. With these tips in mind, you can shop the Trader Joe's meat aisle like a pro.
â70s Rock Legend Rejects Reunion Tour 52 Years After Joining Band
Former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony has once again shared his thoughts on a potential band reunion to honor the passing of legendary guitarist Eddie Van Halen. The bassist opened up during a March 20 appearance on the Trunk Nation podcast hosted by Eddie Trunk, directly addressing his perspective on the matter.
Eddie Van Halen died on October 6, 2020, following a long battle with cancer. Since then, past band members and prominent guitar peers throughout the industry have proposed various memorial events, though none have officially materialized. When asked about his current stance, Anthony admitted he has zero interest in launching a full reunion tour, but he could easily be swayed by a tribute show to honor the guitarist's towering legacy.
Rock musicians Michael Anthony and Eddie Van Halen, both of the rock group Van Halen, perform onstage at the Jacksonville Coliseum in Jacksonville, Florida, on January 18, 1984.âYeah, any guitar player or musician could put together a tribute to Eddie, but it would be great, âcause the rest of us are still here, if anything could happen with us all being involved too, being we were all in the band," Anthony shared. "But who knows? I mean, Iâm not gonna sit there and knock on the door all day long, but if somebody knocks on my door and itâs something that sounds like it could be very cool... Like Iâve said in interviews, not a tour, whatever, [but] a couple of giant shows maybe, or maybe one on the East Coast, one on the West Coast, whatever, and just a full-on tribute and thank you to the guy who fricking opened up guitar and took it to the next level.â
Anthony added that he is certain many notable guitarists in the industry would jump at the chance to participate in a show if a formal event were organized, emphasizing the collective appreciation for the late musician's undeniable impact on rock history.
âI guarantee any guitar player whoâs any guitar player would wanna come and be a part of it, and I think that would really be the amazing thing right there," he said. "âCause I, obviously, know plenty of guitar players⊠and they all would be chomping at the bit to come up and jam, do a couple of songs.â
The bassist closed out the discussion by affirming that while there is no official expiration date on a memorial event, if it is ever going to happen, it needs to take place sooner rather than later to accommodate the health and performance capabilities of the band's former lineup.
âObviously it can be done, but timeâs not running out yet, but itâs getting thin for all of us other members to be involved actively in doing something,â he explained. âBecause I definitely would love to be part of something like that.â

Ben and Erin Napier Reveal the Surprising Way Home Town Changed Laurel, Mississippi
For 10 seasons, viewers have been watching Ben and Erin Napier breathe new life into historic homes on their HGTV hit Home Town. But according to the pair, the biggest transformation isnât what happened inside the houses at allâitâs the larger impact the show has had on their hometown of Laurel, Mississippi.
During a recent interview with Parade, the Napiers reflected on how dramatically Laurel (a finalist in Parade's 2026 America's Favorite Small Towns contest) has changed since the show first premiered a decade ago.Â
âItâs incredible to see how many out-of-state license plates are parked in every parking lot now,â Erin shared. âPeople come here looking for something. Theyâre looking for a slower way of life. Theyâre looking for community."
That desire for a taste of a slower pace, according to the couple, has transformed Laurel into something of a real-life small-town fantasy for Home Town fans, complete with friendly shop owners (both Laurel natives and new residents who moved cross-country after seeing the show), bustling local businesses and residents who go out of their way to welcome the influx of visitors.Â
The Napiers' candle shop in downtown Laurel, MSErin & Ben Co.
âPeople here just want to be helpful,â said Erin. "I hear stories of people we know, friends of ours, [saying], âI saw somebody walking down 5th Avenue and they looked kind of lost, so I just pulled over to ask if they need anything.âÂ
The changes go far beyond tourism. According to Laurel Main Street, a preservation and economic growth organization in town, downtown Laurel has added 44 new businesses and nearly 150 new jobs in the last five years alone. Â
âWe have an art gallery in downtown. We have a frame shop in downtown,â Ben said, adding that the city has also welcomed restaurants, specialty shops and entrepreneurs who relocated to Laurel.
The town is even in the midst of an infrastructure upgrade, a much-needed project that is replacing decades-old piping to suit the townâs modern expansion.
According to the couple, the local community has been supportive of the impact they've had on the townâs growth. âThe shop owners downtown are our greatest welcome wagon,â Erin said. âTheyâre hospitable and welcoming to all of the visitors who are coming to town.âÂ
Perhaps the clearest sign of Laurelâs evolution? Coffee culture.
âWhen Erin and I got married and we moved back downtown, it was just a dreamâwhat if one day we could get Italian food in downtown Laurel, or breakfast, or gosh, to go get a cup of coffee?â Ben recalled. âAnd now there are three coffee shops downtown.â
For longtime fans of Home Town, itâs the kind of plot line that underscores the sense of devotion to the series. The renovations may bring viewers in, but the sense of community keeps them watching.

1966 Folk Classic, Written While Gordon Lightfoot Was Still Married, Became Greatest Regret
Sometimes a song makes you famous, and then you get to spend the rest of your life wishing you'd never written the thing.
That's exactly what happened to Gordon Lightfoot with his hit song,"For Lovin' Me."
Released in 1966, it was the breakout hit that launched his entire career. That songâs what made Gordon Lightfoot famous. There was just one tiny problem: Lightfoot was married when he wrote it.
It was catchy, it was bold and radio stations absolutely loved it and the audience couldnât get enough. It was the kind of hit that changes a musicianâs life.
But here's the thing: Lightfoot was married when he wrote it. Not exactly a wise choice of a married man.
The song was about a man with no commitment, no loyalty, and no regrets. He'd move from woman to woman without guilt or care â and when those women finally got over him and moved on? He'd show back up at their doorstep and do it all over again. "I ain't the kind to hang around with any new love that I found," he sang. It wasnât so much charming as completely cynical.
It was also very cruel considering he was married.
And Lightfoot had written every word while wearing his wedding ring.
When the Words Finally Caught Up With HimThe transformation came slowly. For many years, Lightfoot performed "For Lovin' Me" because that's what you do with your hit songs. You play them. You smile through the discomfort. You take the applause.
But something changed.
"After I sang that song for a while, I asked myself, 'What am I saying?!'" Lightfoot recalled. The question really began to haunt him. He wasn't just performing words anymore. Words have weight. He was actively telling people how to be cruel to women. It was super misogynistic. He was singing a song celebrating the very thing he'd come to despise.
He didn't soften the truth. He didn't pretend it was just a product of his time. He called it exactly what he believed it was.
"I was married at the time, and it was a damn poor song to write when you're married to somebody," he said flatly. "You're basically saying, 'I'm going to hurt you now, and later when you've moved on, I'll show up and hurt you again.' That's not something I'm proud of."
Even decades after the divorce, when the woman he'd written it about had built her own life and moved forward, the shame still didn't fade. "I would sing this song and think, 'How did she ever put up with this?!'" he said. "I stopped singing it."
Photo by Fotos International on Getty Images
The Gift of Letting GoHere's what's incredible: Lightfoot had every reason to keep performing "For Lovin' Me." It was his biggest hit. The audience wanted it. It paid the bills. It was what people knew him for.
But by his later years, Lightfoot had made peace with the choices of his youth. "I don't need to sing that anymore," he said. "I've got much better songs now. I just perform the best ones."
The song that made him the most famous became the one he absolutely refused to sing. By refusing, he kept something far more valuable than fame or money: the ability to look himself in the mirror.
That's the real story.
These States Require More Than $100K Annually To Retire Comfortablyâ Hereâs Where To Go Instead
If youâre concerned about how far your retirement savings are going to stretch, there are 13 states where a comfortable retirement will cost you $100,000 or more a year in total expenses. If that lifestyle isnât within your budget, looking at other statesâsome of which require a little more than a third of that total out-of-pocketâmight be worth considering.

The Expensive StatesHawaii ($156,610), California ($121,879), and Massachusetts ($111,145) have the highest income requirements for retirement, according to a recentMoneyLion study. Washington ($95,099) and New Jersey ($90,511) arenât far behind. Colorado, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Alaska, New York, and Connecticut round out the other expensive retirement states.Â
As of right now, Connecticut, the lowest on the list, requires "just" $77, 627 which is still a hefty amount. While these states also have some of the highest incomes, it may be beneficial for retirees to leave for cheaper pastures.Â

Where Retirement Is AffordableSo, where can you comfortably retire without a high-paying income stream? These are the top 10 most affordable states by ranking according to the same study:
- West Virginia
- Mississippi
- Louisiana (but not along the coast, where insurance premiums are soaring)
- Oklahoma
- Arkansas
- Kentucky
- Iowa
- Alabama
- Kansas
- Ohio
West Virginia, the most affordable state on the list, requires a personal savings draw of only $33,223 per year to live well alongside Social Security. Meanwhile, Ohio, the most expensive state on the top 10 affordable list, requires an out-of-pocket income of about $43,914. Considering thatâs a spread of only about $10,000, anyone with $50,000 a year in personal retirement income (on top of government benefits) should be incredibly comfortable.
Other FactorsThere are many factors to consider when deciding where to spend your golden years. If an area claims to be inexpensive, but you donât have access to adequate healthcare or the area isnât safe, it wonât matter much if you can afford it. The best thing you can do is make a list of all your needs, then balance it with the resources that retired people are already using most.
When you determine what factors are non-negotiable, youâll be able to start looking at the best place for you to retire. Whether your goal is home ownership, access to activities, or just being able to relax in silence, thereâs likely an affordable place for you to settle down.Â

Margaret Atwoodâs Cameo on âThe Testamentsâ Has Been Revealed â Was It Worth the Wait?
When Margaret Atwood confirmed that she would have a cameo on The Testaments, all eyes were on the lookout for her.
Atwood confirmed the cameo appearance would happen back when the season first premiered. She wouldnât share when she would appear or who she would play, and that left fans excited to see how she would appear on the screen.
Itâs not the first time Atwood has landed an appearance on the shows based on her works. She appeared in the series premiere of The Handmaidâs Tale, getting the opportunity to slap June while at the Red Center. We had to wait until the Season 1 finale of The Testaments to see her again.
It looks like Atwood still gets to play someone in some sort of position of power. While she was an Aunt in The Handmaidâs Tale, she took over the role as one of the female Eyes in The Testaments. She was at the jail, escorting Aunt Lydia through to see a broken Becka, who had been arrested at the end of the penultimate episode for killing her father.
The question now is whether this appearance was worth the wait. The best thing about the cameo is that it didnât take over from the story. It was a fun appearance that helped to keep the plot going for Aunt Lydia and Becka. In a way, thatâs what makes it worth the wait, as we had something to look forward to, and it was just a small moment that fans of Atwood can appreciate.
This was also one of those cameos that not everyone noticed. After a fan took to Reddit to see if others had spotted the cameo, others shared that they had to rewatch the episode to see it. Thatâs how well done the cameo was to blend in with the rest of the story. Another user shared that they didnât have Atwood being âthe head of the Eyesâ on their bingo card.
While itâs not clear if she is the âhead of the Eyes,â she certainly held a position of authority among the women. Even Aunt Lydia wasnât going to mess with her!
The Testaments has been renewed for a second season. The show has strayed far away from the book, so itâs exciting for many to see how this could all now play out!
Sam's Club Is About to Drop This Summer's Cookout Season in a Box
Summer cookout season has basically turned into a competitive sport by now. Between backyard barbecues, holiday parties, lake weekends and neighborhood get-togethers, people are stocking coolers, cleaning grills, and trying to make sure they have enough food to feed an unpredictable number of hungry guests. And now, Johnsonville and Sam's Club are leaning all the way into that energy with an oversized new bundle tied to grilling season and the upcoming America250 celebration.
Starting June 1, Sam's Club members will be able to purchase a limited-edition Cele-BRAT-ion box online while supplies last. The massive bundle includes 250 Original Johnsonville Brats, along with a branded apron and grilling tongs, all for $199.97. For anyone planning a summer packed with cookouts, grad parties, family reunions, or backyard blowouts, the box feels less like a grocery purchase and more like a full-season grilling commitment.

Whether people are genuinely planning to grill hundreds of brats, are looking to stock up ahead of the summer or simply love the absurdity of the concept, the box feels designed to ignite social media conversations and backyard bragging rights.
The Box Comes With Enough Brats for Practically Everything What's Inside the Brat Box at Sam's ClubCourtesy Sam's Club
At 250 brats, the Cele-BRAT-ion box is definitely not aimed at casual weeknight dinners or the occasional sausage snacker. This is the kind of purchase built for people who host frequently, feed large crowds, and take encased meats very seriously.
The inclusion of branded grilling gear helps deepen the whole thing's connection to America's 250th anniversary celebration in the best possible way. Instead of feeling like a bulk meat order, the package comes across more like a commemorative summer cookout kit. And honestly, the timing makes sense. June is when backyard cooking really ramps up, especially with the year's Fourth of July plans already underway.
Johnsonville's Original Brats also remain the company's most recognizable product thanks to their mild seasoning, versatility and ease of grilling. They work for everything from classic brat buns with mustard and onions to beer brats and tailgate spreads.

Bulk Summer Food Bundles Keep Getting BiggerCourtesy Sam's Club
Warehouse retailers and major food brands have increasingly leaned into oversized seasonal bundles in recent years, especially for grilling season. Large-format food packages naturally create social buzz because they tap into both practicality and spectacle.
That's part of what makes the Cele-BRAT-ion box feel tailor-made for the internet. Even people who would never realistically need 250 brats may still appreciate the sheer novelty of the offering.
For serious grill fans, though, the box may genuinely make sense. Summer gatherings can add up quickly, and buying in bulk ahead of busy weekends is often easier than making multiple grocery runs throughout the season. Either way, this latest Sam's Club collaboration definitely understands its audience: people who believe summer cookout season, especially heading into America250, deserves to go a little over the top.

Stephen King Says Thrilling Eight-Part Netflix Sci-Fi Series Is an âAbsolute Delight'
The Master of Horror, Stephen King, has given his praise for another Netflix show. This time, it's the eight-part thriller, The Boroughs, which dropped as a binge-watch on May 21, 2026.
King shared on Threads that the series is an "absolute delight," and he even said that binging all eight episodes at once is "actually worth it." It's high praise from the man who has even said that some of the adaptations of his own works have been bad.
This isn't the first series on Netflix that has been praised by The Shiningauthor. He also had high praise for The Lord of the Flies, an adaptation of the novel of the same name. This was a series he'd originally been worried about, because of his love for the 1950s novel, but in the end, he was impressed with how the series played out.
The Boroughs is a new sci-fi thriller from the Duffer Brothers. It's not connected to their hit Stranger Things at all, but it does bring a world of monsters to a small retirement community. The series already gained interest thanks to its high-profile cast that includes Geena Davis, Bill Pullman, and Alfre Woodard.
It follows members of a picturesque retirement community that are pulled together when there's an otherworldly threat trying to take the one thing that they don't have: time. The group becomes unlikely heroes of the world, as they shake off their beliefs and expectations and figure out a way to stop the creatures.
King is not alone in his praise for the new series. It currently holds a 96% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. The popcorn meter isn't as positive, but it's still on the positive side with a 79% score. Meanwhile, it holds a 71 score on Metacritic.
While The Green Mile author didn't go into the details of what he found as an "absolute delight," others have shared that the cast helped to bring everything together. There is a lot of excitement for a second season, although that hasn't been confirmed just yet. With the hype for The Boroughs, a second season ois likely to happen.
Country Music Star Ella Langley Reaches Best-Selling Milestone Amid Tour
Country singer-songwriter Ella Langley has added another major achievement to her breakout 2026 run after her album Dandelion was named the best-selling album by a female artist in the United States this year so far.
The milestone was shared by Country Wire on Instagram as Langley continues her fast-rising success during The Dandelion Tour. The Alabama-born artist has dominated charts, streaming platforms and social media in recent months thanks to the success of songs including âChoosinâ Texasâ and âBe Her.â
The news arrives only weeks after Langley made Billboard history. According to Billboard, âChoosinâ Texasâ stayed at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a ninth week while âBe Herâ climbed to No. 2, making Langley the first woman primarily known for country music to hold the top two spots on the chart at the same time.

The achievement placed Langley alongside some of the biggest names in music history. Billboard reported that only Morgan Wallen had previously managed the feat among core-country acts.
View this post on InstagramâChoosinâ Texas,â released through Columbia Records, continued to post strong numbers with 26.6 million official streams, 47.8 million radio airplay audience impressions, and 8,000 sales in one tracking week in the United States. The song also earned its 24th week atop the Hot Country Songs chart.
At the same time, âBe Herâ became another major hit from Dandelion. The song rose to No. 2 on the Hot 100 while staying beside âChoosinâ Texasâ across multiple Billboard rankings.
Langleyâs second studio album Dandelion was released on April 10, 2026, after months of anticipation. The record debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and became the largest streaming debut for a country album by a female primary artist.
Before the album arrived, Langley released several promotional tracks that quickly became commercial hits. Forbes noted that the continued popularity of âChoosinâ Texasâ helped boost nearly every release connected to the project.
The singer recently extended her chart history again after holding the No. 1 and No. 2 spots on the Billboard Hot 100 for a second straight week. That accomplishment moved her past artists including Ariana Grande, Mariah Carey, The Weeknd and Bad Bunny, who each achieved the chart feat only once.
Forbes also reported that Langley became only the third act ever to spend two separate weeks at Nos. 1 and 2 on the Hot 100 simultaneously. She joined Akon and DaBaby in accomplishing the rare chart run.
Outside the charts, Langley has also stayed highly active online while continuing performances on tour.
A recent viral moment came after she shared a TikTok video covering Freddy Fenderâs classic âWasted Days and Wasted Nights.â The clip drew more than 1.7 million views and hundreds of thousands of likes within days.

⏠original sound - Ella LangleyLangleyâs recent popularity has also translated into award wins. Earlier this year, she dominated the American Music Awards by taking home seven awards. Her growing profile has also led to partnerships with brands including American Eagle Outfitters and Chase Bank.
Born in Hope Hull, Alabama, Langley first gained attention through songwriting sessions, local performances, and viral TikTok clips before signing with Sony Music Nashville and Columbia Records. Her debut album Hungover introduced fans to songs like âYou Look Like You Love Meâ and âWerenât for the Wind,â helping establish her as one of country musicâs fastest-rising stars.
Now, with Dandelion leading sales among female artists in 2026 and multiple Billboard records already under her belt, Langleyâs breakout year continues to grow larger as she travels across the country on tour.

Critics Heap Praise on Paul McCartney's New Solo Album 'The Boys of Dungeon Lane': 'His Gift for Melody Still Astounds'
It's been just over half a decade since Paul McCartney delivered a solo rock album, but if the emerging reviews surrounding the venture are any indication, The Boys of Dungeon Lane has been well worth the wait.
With a release date set for May 29, 2026, almost all of the early reviews for the legendary Beatle's new album have been nothing short of ecstatic, with many critics calling The Boys of Dungeon Lane a nostalgic look back to McCartney's early childhood and peak Fab Four days.
The Guardian notably wrote of McCartney and his new album, "His gift for melody still astounds," while also adding, "These are songs written with real purpose and a masterâs finesse
"Perhaps his approach was driven by a sense of the clock ticking," the outlet continued. "If youâre going to make an album at 83, youâd better make something that counts, which The Boys of Dungeon Lane does."
Variety shared a similar outlook to the Wings frontman's recent release, noting just how incredible The Boys of Dungeon Lane is when you consider McCartney's age.
"Superlatives are meant to be quibbled over, but hereâs one that will be met with a lot of agreement: The Boys of Dungeon Lane is absolutely the best album ever recorded and released by a rock star in his 80s," Variety deemed.
As expected, the prospect of a new album from the 83-year-old McCartney has garnered widespread anticipation from fans of the music icon. Not only that, but The Boys of Dungeon Lane also includes various nods to McCartney's past and present, with several songs referencing his wife Nancy Shevell and a road trip McCartney took with his late Beatles bandmate George Harrison.
Perhaps most excitingly, the album's "Home to Us" features a duet with McCartney and Ringo Starr, marking the first time the two have sung on an album together since Dolly Parton's 2023 Rockstar (which saw the two former Beatles sing "Let It Be" alongside the country music powerhouse).
