Some dates become footnotes in history. Others become turning points. For Reba McEntire, June 3, 1989, was one of those days.

At the time, McEntire, 71, was already one of country music's fastest-rising stars. She was previously married to Charlie Battles, but the two separated in 1987.

On June 3, 1989, McEntire and her manager, Narvel Blackstock, were married in a ceremony at Emerald Bay. The setting for the occasion couldn't have been much more picturesque. Surrounded by the stunning scenery of Lake Tahoe, the event took place at one of the region's most breathtaking locations.

Against a backdrop of crystal-blue water and towering mountains, family and friends gathered to witness a milestone moment for the country star.

Their partnership would extend far beyond their wedding day. Over the years, Blackstock continued to play a major role in McEntire's professional life, helping guide her career during some of its most successful periods while the two built a family together.

For many fans, the marriage became one of country music's most recognizable relationships. The couple spent more than two decades together, navigating the demands of fame, family and business while remaining fixtures in the entertainment world.

McEntire and Blackstock separated in 2015. "It was a situation that was always business,” McEntire once told Drew Barrymore. "Whether we were getting ready in the morning, pillow talk, whatever, but it was business."

She is currently engaged to Happy's Place co-star Rex Linn.

In 1970, David Bowie released a song that would eventually become one of the most famous tracks associated with his career. At first, however, almost nobody paid attention to it.

"The Man Who Sold the World" appeared as the title track on Bowie's third album. While the record received some positive reviews, neither the album nor the song became a major success at the time. For years, it remained one of the lesser-known pieces in Bowie's catalog, overshadowed by many of the hits he released later in the decade.

That changed more than 20 years later, thanks to an unexpected revival.

In 1993, the influential rock band Nirvana performed an acoustic version of "The Man Who Sold the World" during their appearance on MTV Unplugged. The performance introduced the song to an entirely new generation of listeners and quickly became one of the most memorable moments of the band's career.

The cover's success renewed interest in Bowie's original recording. Many younger fans first discovered the song through Nirvana before later tracing it back to its creator. As a result, a once-overlooked track became one of Bowie's most legendary songs.

Bowie later reflected on Nirvana's interpretation of the song in a 1996 interview, saying, "It's a very sad rendition, of course, because it is so tied up with [Kurt Cobain's] own life and death." He added that the song took on "all these different shades" after Cobain's passing, giving it a meaning far beyond what he originally intended when writing it decades earlier.

Part of the song's lasting appeal comes from its mysterious nature. Built around surreal lyrics and an unsettling atmosphere, "The Man Who Sold the World" invites listeners to interpret its meaning for themselves. The song's dreamlike quality helped it stand apart from traditional rock music of its era and contributed to its enduring fascination.

Over time, both versions have earned praise from critics and fans alike. What began as a commercial disappointment ultimately found a second life decades later, transforming into a rock classic whose legacy spans generations. Few songs have experienced such a dramatic journey from obscurity to cultural significance.

Singer-songwriter Neil Diamond has offered multiple versions of the story behind his classic, karaoke hit "Sweet Caroline" over the years, making for a truly bizarre backstory to the song.

In a 2007 sit down with The Guardian, Diamond declared that his inspo for the iconic tune was late President John F. Kennedy's daughter, Caroline Kennedy. Caroline would have been just 11-years-old at the time that "Sweet Caroline" was released in 1969. That same year, Diamond sang the song for Caroline at her 50th birthday party. Three years later in 2011, Diamond told The Early Show that a magazine photo of Caroline as a young girl riding a horse with her parents (JFK and Jacqueline Kennedy) had sparked an image in his mind, but the rest of the song came well after seeing this alleged picture.

Despite all of this and all of the involvement of America's most famous family, in 2014 Diamond claimed that the original inspiration behind the song had always been his then-wife, Marcia Murphey. However, he claimed he needed a three syllable name for the chorus, and stated to have chosen "Caroline" in order to make the rhythm work with his written melody.

"Sweet Caroline" has a long legacy, but one of the places it's most often heard is at karaoke. It's so often requested and sung that it has even been ranked among the 100 most popular karaoke songs in the United States. It's so popular in part because of its notoriety, but also because of its "irresistible, built-in call-and-response" which encourages audience engagement.

While "Sweet Caroline" may have peaked at No. 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 upon its release in 1969, its legacy has lived on thanks to not only karaoke, but also different sporting events. The song is a staple at Fenway Park in Boston, having been played there since at least 1997. The track has also become a very prominent pre‑fight anthem at boxing events in the United Kingdom, and is even played in said rings as somewhat of a sing-along.

In 2019, "Sweet Caroline" was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" as a piece of music. In 2020 the accolades and preservation continued and the song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.

Terri Irwin is looking back on 34 years of adventure with her late husband, Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, and their children, Bindi and Robert Irwin, ahead of the couple's 34th wedding anniversary later this week.

Shortly after marrying the famed conservationist on June 4th, 1992, Terri moved to Australia, starting "a life dedicated to wildlife conservation," before welcoming Bindi, 27, on July 24, 1998, and Robert, 22, on Dec. 1, 2003.

"My heart is full. I am truly blessed.💕," she captioned the snapshot, which appears to be a headshot for her work at the Australia Zoo.

In it, she stood proudly with her arms crossed over her chest, with a khaki uniform shirt embroidered with her name and Australia Zoo tucked into a pair of jeans secured by a brown leather belt. She smiled brightly for the camera, with her long brown hair falling behind her shoulders.

Fans praised the Irwin matriarch for being such an inspiration to the world, both for her dedication to the planet, and to her late husband, with many having called the two the “definition of true love” in the past.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

Bindi, the couple's oldest, gushed, "We love you SO much." Her love story with her husband, Chandler Powell, closely mirrors that of her parents, as American-born Terri first met Steve during a 1991 visit to Australia Zoo (which, at the time, was known as the Queensland Reptile and Fauna Park), while Bindi and Powell met when she gave his group a tour of the zoo during a 2013 trip. They kept in touch online before going “Instagram Official” a couple of years later, and the Florida native moved to Australia in 2018, proposing to Bindi on her 21st birthday the following year. They were married on March 25, 2020, and welcomed their daughter, Grace Warrior, exactly one year later.

Terri didn’t become an Australian citizen until nearly three years after Steve was killed in a tragic wildlife accident, accepting her citizenship at the Crocoseum on Steve Irwin Day 2009, while Powell recently received his own Australian citizenship in a similarly sentimental ceremony at the zoo.

Over two years after his death, Toby Keith's presence on the country music charts still lives on.

The late country icon — who died in February 2024 after battling stomach cancer — continues to climb up the country music charts, even decades after some of his most popular songs were released.

Just this week, Keith's 2008 album, 35 Biggest Hits, jumped up on Billboard's Top Country Albums chart, earning the No. 11 spot nearly 20 years after it first came out. The compilation album moved up two spots from last week's placement at No. 13, adding to its career total of 389 weeks on the chart, and proving that fans still love listening to some of the greatest hits Keith's catalog has to offer.

As promised in the title of the album, 35 Biggest Hits hosts many of the most successful songs from Keith's discography, including smash hits like "I Love This Bar" and "Beer For My Horses." At the time of its release in May 2008, the album soared to the top of the Country Albums chart later that same month, where it spent three weeks in the No. 1 position.

The same album also debuted on the Billboard 200 in 2008, though it didn't reach its peak position at No. 1 until February 2024, shortly after Keith's death at the age of 62.

Throughout his career, Keith had 20 singles hit No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart and 42 that charted in the Top 10. Many of the chart-toppers released prior to his 2008 compilation record were included on the album's track list, including fan-favorites like "Should've Been a Cowboy" (1993), "You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This" (2000), "My List" (2001), "Who's Your Daddy?" (2002), and many more.

35 Biggest Hits was also certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in August 2008, just months after its release.

McDonald's is ready for the World Cup!

On June 2, the popular fast-food chain announced two new meals they will be offering for kids and adults during FIFA's iconic tournament. Adults can buy the FIFA World Cup 26 Meals, which include a Big Mac® or 10-piece Chicken McNuggets with the limited edition, gold packaged Big Mac Sauce. They can also order breakfast on match day mornings with the choices being a Sausage McMuffin® with Egg or Sausage Egg Biscuit and Hash Browns.

Plus, each will come with a special collectible for fans, with nine different cups available, all featuring different soccer stars including Christian Pulisic, David Beckham, Ronaldinho Gaucho, Thierry Henry, Son Heung-Min, Lamine Yamal, Alphonso Davies, Santiago Gimenez, and of course, Grimace.

“Growing up, it was our ritual after soccer tournaments to go to our McDonald's near Hershey, PA, for Chicken McNuggets and a McFlurry,"  U.S. Men’s National Team Star Christian Pulisic said in a statement. "Those memories were a core part of my childhood and an experience I still share with my teammates today. To now be featured on a McDonald's collectible cup all these years later is a full-circle moment.”

As for the Happy Meals, starting on June 9, each order will include one of 23 Squishmallows that feature the official mascots for the FIFA World Cup 26 as well as ones representing the three host countries: Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

Michael Steele, the iconic musician behind the legendary bands The Bangles and The Runaways, is ringing in her 71st birthday.

Born on June 2, 1955, the California native, whose real name is Susan Thomas, has cemented her name in the industry as one of the notable figures of the '80s music scene.

With her enduring legacy, let's look back on her remarkable journey as a bassist, singer and songwriter.

From The Runaways to The Bangles

Before being known as Michael Steele, she began her professional career as Micki Steele in the mid-70s.

At the time, she was also a founding member of the girl rock group The Runaways, serving as the original bassist and contributing lead vocalist before Cherie Currie joined.

Steele formed the band alongside Joan Jett on rhythm guitar and Sandy West on drums during its formative years.

However, Steele had a short stint with the band and exited the group even before it was signed by Mercury Records and released its debut album.

Steele’s departure was reportedly due to internal conflict with the late music producer and manager Kim Fowley.

“It was one of those things, a girl band made up by a guy [Kim Fowley]. Which kind of sucks. Because it was coming through his twisted concept of what women were,” she told Bill DeYoung in a 2000 interview with Goldmine, describing her experience with the band.

Years later, she emerged with another all-female rock group, this time joining The Bangles.

Steele officially joined the band in 1983, completing the quartet consisting of original members Susanna Hoffs on vocals, Vicki Peterson on guitar and Debbi Peterson on drums.

Since then, the group has experienced career-defining moments with one hit song after another.

The band became global pop-rock icons after releasing its second album, Different Light, which included their signature anthem "Manic Monday" and the chart-topping track "Walk Like an Egyptian."

The Bangles’ commercial success continued in 1988 with their third studio album, Everything.

The album included the lead single "In Your Room" and the power ballad "Eternal Flame," which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Unfortunately, during the peak of their popularity, The Bangles officially disbanded in 1989 due to internal issues, prompting the members to pursue their solo careers.

"It was like being a surfer," Steele described to The Guardian regarding the fallout. "A wave came up and you had to ride it for as long as you could and then you wiped out and you got maytagged, as we say on the west coast."

It was in 1998 that The Bangles reunited after nearly a decade following their breakup, releasing two full-length studio albums and performing at the Hollywood Bowl's 78th season.

Legendary rock musician and producer Alan Parsons is celebrating a major milestone in his career with a special 50th anniversary performance this fall.

The Alan Parsons Live Project is set to perform at The Theater at Virgin Hotels Las Vegas on Sept. 13, marking five decades since the release of Tales of Mystery and Imagination, the debut album by The Alan Parsons Project. 

The 1976 record launched one of progressive rock's most successful and influential acts and helped establish Parsons as a creative force beyond the recording studio.

The anniversary celebration centers on Tales of Mystery and Imagination, released on May 1, 1976. The concept album, inspired by the writings of Edgar Allan Poe, became the foundation of The Alan Parsons Project and introduced the creative partnership between Parsons and songwriter Eric Woolfson.

Before becoming a recording artist, Parsons built his reputation as one of the music industry's most respected audio engineers. He worked on iconic recordings including The Beatles' Abbey Road and Let It Be, as well as Pink Floyd's groundbreaking 1973 masterpiece The Dark Side of the Moon.

Parsons later teamed up with Woolfson to create a studio-based project built around ambitious concept albums. The pair looked beyond traditional rock band structures and drew inspiration from the film industry.

"Alan and I looked to the film industry and saw that directors like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas had become the real stars of their movies," Woolfson told the Chicago Tribune. "We thought, 'Oh, records are going to go that way, too.' It was logical because record producers are the musical equivalent of those guys."

Their vision paid off. Following the success of Tales of Mystery and Imagination, The Alan Parsons Project released a string of hit albums including I Robot, Pyramid, The Turn of a Friendly Card and Eye in the Sky.

The group's commercial success produced several charting singles, including "Games People Play," "Time," "Don't Answer Me," and the enduring classic "Eye in the Sky," which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The 50th anniversary show announcement follows a health-related challenge earlier this year.

In January, Parsons revealed that a lingering back injury forced him to postpone scheduled performances in Mexico. The 77-year-old musician shared the update directly with fans through a message posted on social media.

"This is one of those announcements I hoped never to have to write, but here we are," Parsons wrote.

He explained that doctors advised him to delay the performances while continuing treatment and recovery efforts.

"That said, I'm pleased to say that the remainder of the year's plans should continue exactly as intended," Parsons said. "This is not a retreat, merely a strategic pause involving sensible shoes and some more physical therapy."

That commitment is evident in Parsons' extensive 2026 itinerary. In addition to the Las Vegas anniversary event, he is scheduled to perform throughout Spain in June and in several U.S. cities during July, including Shipshewana, Indiana; Nashville, Tennessee and Columbus, Ohio.

The current Alan Parsons Live Project lineup features vocalist P.J. Olsson, bassist Guy Erez, vocalist and saxophonist Todd Cooper, drummer Danny Thompson, keyboardist Tom Brooks, guitarist Dan Tracey and guitarist Jeff Kollman alongside Parsons.

Chrissie Hynde has a simple request for concertgoers: put the phones away.

The Pretenders frontwoman recently renewed her criticism of phone use at concerts, urging fans to experience live performances without constantly filming or taking photos. Her comments come as the band enjoys a break from touring.

In a lengthy social media post, Hynde questioned why so many people feel compelled to document every moment.

"What is it with people and their phones?" she wrote on Instagram, before specifically asking why concertgoers and museum visitors feel the need to constantly film and photograph what they're seeing.

Hynde's frustration stems from personal experience. She recalled attending a concert by Emmylou Harris where another audience member's phone blocked her view throughout much of the performance. She also cited similar frustrations at museums and art exhibitions, saying screens often prevent people from fully engaging with the experience.

The rock legend has been outspoken on the topic for years.

Earlier this year, Hynde admitted that phones at concerts have become such a distraction that they have occasionally made her question whether she wants to continue touring at all. "Phones at concerts are one of the reasons why I may never tour again," she told The Times. "I can’t handle it. Something about the energy in the place is disrupted."

Hynde has also repeatedly addressed the issue directly with Pretenders audiences, explaining that phones can be distracting both for performers on stage and for fellow fans trying to enjoy the show.

Best known for hits including "Brass in Pocket," "Back on the Chain Gang" and "I'll Stand by You," Hynde has long been regarded as one of rock's most influential performers.

Her latest comments place her among a growing number of artists who have questioned the role smartphones play at live events, with some musicians embracing phone-free concert policies in recent years.

"Every night, I come off stage scolding myself and saying it's just not worth it and maybe it's time to hang up the guitar and find another vocation," she posted on social media in 2024. "But I love the band and I love playing live for you. I just don’t like being stalked."

For Hynde, however, the issue appears less about rules and more about presence.

As live music continues evolving in the smartphone era, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is making it clear that she'd prefer audiences spend less time watching concerts through a screen and more time experiencing them in the moment.

CBS News has fired veteran journalist Scott Pelley after the 60 Minutes staple had a dramatic clash with management.

Pelley, 68, recently butted heads with the show’s new executive producer, Nick Bilton. The incident went down publicly in a staff meeting, only exacerbating the existing conflict between CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss and the longtime staff of the iconic newsmagazine program. During the meeting, which was captured on audio, Pelley accused Weiss of “murdering” 60 Minutes.

In a letter to Pelley, which was obtained by a variety of news sources, Bilton informed Pelley of his termination.

“Your antipathy to the future of the show has come through loud and clear,” Bilton said in the letter. “And I have heard you. I therefore write on behalf of CBS News to inform you that your employment with CBS is terminated effective immediately.”

In a separate note to 60 Minutes employees, Bilton made it clear that the network and Pelley had "parted ways."

“I know how much Scott meant to many of you, and I don’t say this lightly,” Bilton wrote in the letter, NBC News shared. “I made repeated attempts to have direct conversations with him over the weekend, and this afternoon I tried to find common ground. That was not the path Scott chose.”

Who Else Has Left 60 Minutes?

Last week, CBS News announced they were ousting former executive producer Tanya Simon, executive editor Draggan Mihailovich, and correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega, Variety reported.

Anderson Cooper, who has contributed to the show for nearly 20 years, announced he would be leaving the program in February, Parade previously shared.

“The thing is, it’s never felt like work. It’s felt like you’re stepping into people’s lives, and you’re invited into people homes,” Cooper reflected. “You’re invited into their struggles, you’re invited into whatever it is that has brought them to be on 60 Minutes.”

The band lasted less than a year, but it produced one of classic rock’s most enduring songs.

Formed in February1969, Blind Faith united Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Ginger Baker, and Ric Grech in what many still consider one of rock’s greatest supergroups. Their time together was brief, yielding just one studio album before the band dissolved. Yet from that one record, we got “Can’t Find My Way Home,” a haunting and soulful anthem that still gets stuck in our heads more than five decades later.

Released in the summer of 1969, “Can’t Find My Way Home” is a Winwood original, rumored to be written and composed in just minutes. Like an ambiguous art piece, the song is open to interpretation, with fans attributing drugs, breakups, even the meaning of life to its lyrics. Critics will tell you it’s a balm whose purpose is to counter the free-love fever dream that was the '60s. 

“I’m not enormously prolific. Sometimes I have to work a bit hard to write things, and sometimes things come very quickly,” Winwood shared on Instagram in April. “In Traffic, we were musicians - and first and foremost we wanted to jam. But because at the time we were being played on the radio and had a record deal, we needed to write songs of a certain length. So that became the first reason we wrote songs: as a vehicle to play music. With songwriters, it’s the other way ‘round; they write because that’s what they do.”

No matter the beholder, Winwood’s lyrics explore themes of self-discovery, spiritual searching, and finding inner peace, with Winwood’s soul-stirring tenor elevated by Clapton’s rarely performed acoustic fingerpicking, resulting in a comforting folk-rock ballad. Though the album is full of hits, it’s the second track that gets the most play in this house.

The band’s one and only self-titled album climbed to the top of the U.S. and U.K. charts, with “Can’t Find My Way Home” becoming their seminal track. But as soon as the party started it was over. Blind Faith disbanded after their tour concert in Hawaii in August 1969. According to Far Out, rushed management, a lack of material, and Clapton’s interest in other groups spelled the end of the road.

Today, the surviving members of the supergroup continue to perform the song in their own ways: Winwood at his solo shows and current co-headlining tour with JohnFogerty and Clapton at his curatedCrossroads Guitar Festival. Sadly, drummer Ginger Bake and bassist Grech have passed. 

Outside the band, the track lives on through covers, with standout renditions including those from Swans, Bonnie Raitt, Joe Cocker, Styx, and Alison Krauss, just to name a few. Whenever you’re feeling lost, cue up your favorite version and let it guide you home.

Danielle Olivera is addressing confusion surrounding an In the City moment involving Lindsay Hubbard’s claim about her and Carl Radke, insisting in a new interview with Parade: “I know it did not happen.”

During tonight’s episode, Lindsay recounts that years ago, after she and Carl had broken up the first time, Danielle had given Carl a handjob in the back of an Uber a week later. “I don’t think I did that, though,” Danielle says to Lindsay in the episode.

Danielle says she didn’t give Lindsay a strong rebuttal because “I was caught so off guard” by the claim, adding, “I went into the conversation wanting to come away in a good place. So I was like, OK. Eat s—t kind of like you know you're going to eat a little s—t, and it's going to have to be OK. This conversation is to move forward and get into a better place, not to move 100 steps back.”

She also questions the timing of the accusation, adding, “This is from six years ago that you’re calling me a bad friend? Why didn’t we address it fully then?”

The situation is further complicated, she explains, by what Carl allegedly told others at the time. In a Summer House flashback, Kyle Cooke tells his wife, Amanda Batula, that Carl told him they had hooked up. “I had no idea she had talked to Kyle about it before,” Danielle shares. “It was done without my knowledge, so this is like the very first time that I'm hearing it.”

She adds that Carl’s account helped fuel the confusion: “The thing is, for better or for worse, she looks at what the show puts out, and Carl did say that it happened. And so I think Carl is the one who should have cleared it up, but I think that Lindsay was just taking that and running with it.”

But Danielle does offer a mea culpa for earlier tension in their friendship, admitting she didn’t watch the previous season of Summer House, which played into how her comments were received.

“That’s on me,” she says. “I should have been clued into the comment that I made [about] single momming it up. And it sucks because my mom made so many sacrifices. She was a single mom. Like I would never judge someone for that, and the way that it came across was 100% judgmental.”

Watching it back, she adds, “I cringed. I was like, 'Oh God, that does sound bad.' And if I were her, watching that back, I would have an opinion.” Danielle also says she didn’t have the full context of Lindsay’s relationship with Gemma’s father at the time.

“Because Lindsay and I weren't close then, we were still repairing our friendship then,” she recalls. So, “I'm hearing this, and I'm just like, 'Oh, you're giving him the out. You're not gonna move in with him' because I thought they were in a committed, serious relationship.”

Lindsay also criticized Danielle for saying she and Carl were moving too fast during their relationship, which ultimately ended before their wedding. Danielle clarifies her intent: “I truly thought at the time, in my heart of hearts, knowing both of them, Carl being new to his sobriety, and not really knowing who he is. And her being so confident... like it was just a mismatch of phases of life.”

In the episode, Danielle and Lindsay are cautiously dipping their toe back into their friendship, with Danielle sharing that she plans to keep some of her opinions about Lindsay's life to herself, especially if it comes, "at the expense of your friend's heartache and pain," she tells Parade.

Stargate fans have been waiting years for a new chapter in the beloved sci-fi franchise. Sadly, it looks like they'll be waiting a little longer.

According to a source who spoke with Variety, Amazon has pulled the plug on its planned Stargate television series before a single episode ever made it to air.

First announced in late 2025, writer and producer Martin Gero, who previously worked on both Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis, had been tapped to develop the series. However, sources say Amazon executives worried that the show would appeal primarily to existing Stargate fans rather than attracting a broader audience.

The cancellation is especially disappointing given the excitement surrounding Stargate's potential revival. Amazon first began exploring new projects within the universe after acquiring MGM, the studio behind the franchise, in 2022. While this particular series won't move forward, reports indicate the company is still interested in finding another way to expand the Stargate brand.

The franchise began as a 1994 film starring James Spader and Kurt Russell before evolving into one of television's most successful science-fiction universes. SG-1 ran for 10 seasons, while Atlantis added another five seasons. Several additional spinoffs and films followed, with Stargate Origins becoming the most recent installment in 2018.

The decision also arrives during a particularly brutal year for television cancellations in general. Networks and streaming platforms have been making tough cuts left and right as the industry continues to shift viewing strategies. NBC alone recently canceled a number of notable series and programs, including Access Hollywood, Access Daily, Deal or No Deal Island, and several others as part of a major programming overhaul.

But as far as Stargate goes, fans will just have to wait and see what the future holds.
