For most of her career, Jennifer Garner made acting look effortless. What she rarely talked about was the period when she stopped showing up on screen altogether. In a cover story for InStyle's Summer 2026 issue, the 54-year-old actress describes a long stretch when acting took a back seat to something far more complicated: keeping her family together.

'When my kids were little, I worked so little, and then we had such an upheaval in our family, that I really hardly worked for a long time,' Garner told the publication. She shares three children (Violet, 20, Fin, 17, and Samuel, 14) with ex-husband Ben Affleck, from whom she separated in 2015 and officially divorced in 2018.

The decision to step back wasn't entirely by choice. Garner explained to InStyle that acting demands a physical sacrifice that compounds quickly. 'First of all, when you're in a performance kind of role, you give up a year/year-and-a-half of performance while you are pregnant, having a baby, recovering.' The separation from Affleck, and the turbulence that followed in its very public aftermath, only extended the gap. When Garner did take time away from her children to act during those years, she told InStyle, they were 'such bricks' about losing mom time.

Now that her children are older and more independent, Garner maintains a busy schedule that includes running Once Upon a Farm and completing her advocacy work for Save the Children, while also squeezing in more acting projects. She is candid about how much she has welcomed the shift. Speaking about her latest project, the upcoming Peacock series The Five Star Weekend, she said that it was a gift 'to have this year and a half where I just indulged [in acting], because this job is very selfish.' 'It's all about your schedule,' she continued. 'It's not about what the kids have going on at school.'

The 13 Going on 30 star navigates both motherhood and Hollywood in the interview, reflecting on the messy nature of each. 'You have to raise yourself at the same time [while raising children]. And just be so radically kind to yourself,' she said. On her own limitations as an actress, she was equally matter-of-fact: 'I can knife fight. I can do a compound bow and arrow. I've learned how to do all of this stuff. I want to use it. But I'm 54, I'm not going to be able to do it forever.'

Garner's The Five-Star Weekend, based on Elin Hilderbrand's novel and co-starring Regina Hall, Gemma Chan, Chloë Sevigny, and D'Arcy Carden, premieres July 9 on Peacock. Garner also serves as an executive producer on the series, a role that, in its own way, reflects the same shift she described in the interview. She's taken control and is determined to get the most out of this new chapter.

A detective recently explained how car tracking could solve Nancy Guthrie's case, as the mother of Today co-host Savannah Guthrie remains missing four months after her abduction in Tucson, Ariz.

During an interview with Jon Buehler published on June 1, NewsNation senior national correspondent Brian Entin spoke with the detective on Brian Entin Investigates.

"Most of the newer cars have a tracking capability in them that I don't think you can turn it off, from the high-tech people that I talk to," he pointed out. "Car tracking would be something I would look into. I would get somebody who really knows what they're doing on that. Because you would want to try and see any cars that were coming that area that particular night, what their destination was, where they were going, and see what you can find on that."

Buehler added, "If somebody ever plugged her address into a Google search for a Google Maps or whatever, if they did a reverse keyword search on that because those records are maintained for a period of time, to see any random person that would have typed in her address that had a reason to do it and then you’d contact that person and find out why did you put that address."

By doing that, Buehler said detectives could "eliminate people from suspicion as easy as you can focus on somebody."

He also told Entin, "Any tradespeople that maybe were doing plumbing repair, electrical repair, anybody who was delivering furniture—anything that came up where somebody could see her as a source of ransom because of the connection with Savannah and Savannah's notoriety, I would be looking at people like that."

Another group to look into, according to Buehler, is parolees who were violent offenders and targeted women.

Nancy, 84, was last seen at her Tucson home on the evening of Jan. 31. Since then, the FBI has released video footage and stills from a doorbell camera of a masked individual on Nancy's front porch. Savannah has also offered a $1 million reward; however, no suspect has been named in the case four months later.

Joshua Jackson is moving to a new neighborhood.

The Dawson's Creek alum has signed on for a major recurring role in Season 3 of Apple TV's Your Friends & Neighbors, the hit suburban drama led by Jon Hamm. The timing is pointed. Jackson's casting landed one day before the show's Season 2 finale, which drops Friday, June 5. Apple renewed the series for a third season before Season 2 even premiered, an early bet that has now paid off with a packed cast.

Created by Jonathan Tropper, Your Friends & Neighbors follows Andrew Cooper (Hamm), a hedge fund manager who starts stealing from the homes of his wealthy friends and neighbors after being fired. Season 3 finds Cooper doubling down on the scheme, until a new neighbor threatens to expose his secrets and put his family at risk.

Jackson has stayed busy since Dawson's Creek made him a household name, with recent runs on The Affair and Doctor Odyssey. He next appears opposite Katie Holmes in the feature Happy Hours, premiering June 6 at the Tribeca Festival, and he is set to star in the HBO Max pilot How to Survive Without Me.

For fans who grew up on Pacey Witter, watching Jackson slip into one of TV's buzziest dramas is its own kind of reunion.

It's almost time to bring the party back to the beach, as Luke Bryan's Crash My Playa returns for its 12th year in paradise.

As anticipation builds, the annual country music event has revealed an update for its 2027 schedule.

In addition to a lineup reveal, the official Instagram also shared the upcoming dates that fans need to mark on their calendars!

"Can’t wait to head back to paradise January 13-16, 2027 with @thomasrhettakins, @hardy , and a whole bunch of friends for Year 12 of Crash My Playa," the post announced.

"Four days of great music, good times, and the best fans in country music. That’s what it’s all about," it continued.

Country superstars Thomas Rhett and Hardy will serve as the headliners alongside Bryan, who is the host and driving force behind the destination country music festival held yearly in Riviera Cancún, MX.

Additionally, Crash My Playa staple, Dustin Lynch, will return to host his annual Pool Party.

The event has become popular over the past decade for "poolside sets, oceanfront shows, and a party that doesn’t stop," growing into one of the genre's premier destination festivals.

In addition to the headliners, there will be performances from Brothers Osborne, Gavin Adcock, Brett Young, Avery Anna, Drew Baldridge, Emily Ann Roberts, DJ Rock and Lanie Gardner, with more special guests to be announced soon.

Packages go on sale to the public on June 11, starting at 1 pm EDT, as the post notes that "Alumni and Nut House" get early access.

Bryan, who started the festival in 2015, shared his enthusiasm for the upcoming year, stating, per Country Now, “There is no time like Playa time!"

"It’s truly the best way to start off the year and this is year 12, which is unbelievable.  It is such a fun environment for me and my artist friends to spend time in front of an energetic crowd.  Thankful for all who show up," he added.

When you think about the best boardwalks, Wildwood or the Santa Monica Pier usually come to mind. But Rehoboth Beach in Delaware is giving these two hot spots a run for their money. Daytime Emmy-winner Shemar Moore is once again making a return visit to The Young and the Restless as his beloved character, Malcom Winters, and Parade has the exclusive first look at his highly anticipated return.

Moore will air next week on Monday, June 8, and Tuesday, June 9, 2026, as he returns to reconnect with his daughter Lily (Christel Khalil) and his newly discovered son, Holden (Nathan Owens).

In the clip, Malcom arrives back in Genoa City, and meets up with his son Holden and his ex-Stephanie (Vivica A. Fox). He is also introduced to his son’s “travel companion,” Claire Newman (Hayley Erin).

Moore made his first return to the soap opera in April of this year, reuniting with his former co-star Vivica A. Fox for the first time in over 30 years, having both made their debuts on The Young and the Restless in 1994.

Throughout the storyline, Malcom learned that Stephanie had given birth to their son, Holden, and had kept his paternity a secret.

Viewers can look forward to the two sharing some scenes again this go-around, and the soap opera teases they will settle some unfinished business.

Moore originally made his debut as Malcom Winters in 1994 and stuck with the soap until 2005, when he joined the cast of Criminal Minds as original character Derek Morgan.

Since leaving Criminal Minds in 2017, Moore immediately became busy with another CBS drama, S.W.A.T., and is currently working on the spin-off series S.W.A.T. Exiles.

In addition to those roles, Moore’s credits include hosting the American musical variety show Soul Train as well as appearing on the WB series Birds of Prey.

For his portrayal of Malcom, Moore took home a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and multiple NAACP Image Awards for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series.

The captain of Deadliest Catch is addressing ongoing rumors about his future—and making it clear he’s not ready to retire.

In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Sig Hansen responded to rumors that he's going to retire.

“I keep hearing those rumors myself. The more I hear that, the more I kind of want to rebel and not do that," Hansen told the outlet. "I don’t see retiring anytime soon. Obviously, I want to see my daughter [Captain Mandy Hansen] move in and partake more, but she had her children, our grandchildren, so that didn’t happen right away. My son-in-law Clark [Pederson] has been stepping up more and more, and he’s perfectly capable. But for me, that’s still kind of an ego thing and I don’t want to retire just yet."

Hansen, who turned 60 in April, sparked retirement rumors due to his health. In 2025, he suffered a serious medical emergency when he collapsed on the F/V Northwestern. Hansen was rushed to the hospital where he learned that the incident was partially caused by exhaustion. Following the incident, which aired on the Season 21 finale, Hansen's doctors encouraged him to consider retirement.

Fast forward about seven months and Hansen doesn't feel like it's his time to step away from doing what he loves.

“I don’t think I could ever fully retire,” Hansen told People. "Even if someone else was running the boat, your mind is still active. You’re thinking about the weather, where they’re at. You can never turn it off. I don’t think I’d respect myself if I could just walk away from it completely.”

Of all the breakfast foods, oatmeal has a reputation for being one of the healthiest. Ordering a bowl of oatmeal at brunch sends the message that you are a Healthy Eater. 

There’s indeed no shortage of health benefits from eating oatmeal regularly. Making oatmeal your go-to breakfast supports weight loss, can help keep you regular due to the high fiber content and provides the body with energy. 

There are also lots of ways to customize oatmeal. If you like a sweet breakfast, you can add berries or a banana with honey or a touch of maple syrup. More of a savory breakfast person? Make your oatmeal with bone broth, scallions, a little soy sauce and top it off with an egg.

There’s no question that oatmeal is healthy (as long as you aren’t buying flavored instant oatmeal, which can be high in sugar), but if one of your health goals is keeping your cholesterol in check, you may be wondering just how much eating oatmeal regularly can help.

Parade talked to cardiologists about how eating oatmeal impacts cholesterol and when you can expect to experience a noticeable difference if you commit to eating it every day.

According to Dr. Minhal Makshood, MD, a preventive cardiologist at MedStar Montgomery Medical Center, one major reason why oatmeal is so good for heart health is the same reason why it’s so good for the gut: its fiber content. 

“Oatmeal is considered heart-healthy largely because it is a whole grain rich in soluble fiber, particularly a type called beta-glucan. Soluble fiber helps reduce cholesterol absorption in the digestive tract and supports overall cardiovascular health,” she says. 

Integrative cardiologist Dr. Joel Kahn, MD, says that oatmeal is more nutrient-dense than most other breakfast options.

“Oatmeal is rich in soluble fiber, vitamins, minerals and polyphenols, which is common with plant-based choices. As opposed to an alternative like bacon and eggs, it is low in saturated fat, dietary cholesterol, salt, chemical additives and nitrates used for curing,” he says.

Dr. Makshood points out that oatmeal easily fits into all of the eating plans commonly recommended for heart health, including the Mediterranean diet and DASH diet. That’s something that’s not true for breakfast foods like bagels, waffles, pancakes, boxed cereals and bacon.

According to Dr. Kahn, people have been eating oatmeal to lower their cholesterol since the 1980s when it was recommended in a best-selling series of books called The 8-Week Cholesterol Cure. “It promoted eating oatmeal and making oat bran muffins and resulted in major drops in blood cholesterol values,” he says.

Though it’s been decades since the oatmeal-for-cholesterol craze, Dr. Kahn explains that the science has been consistent. He points to a recent study published in Nature where participants incorporated oats into their meals for six weeks. For the first two days, oats were included in all three meals of the day, before dropping to be included in just one meal per day. “It resulted in a significant drop in cholesterol in just six weeks,” he says.

Why is it so powerful? Dr. Makshood explains that the beta-glucan (the soluble fiber in oats) forms a gel-like substance within the gut that binds bile acids and cholesterol, helping remove them from the body. “In response, the liver pulls more cholesterol from the bloodstream to produce additional bile acids, which can lower circulating LDL levels over time,” she says.

When can you expect to see a noticeable difference in your cholesterol if you commit to eating oatmeal for breakfast every single day? Dr. Kahn points out that the aforementioned study shows that even 48 hours of eating oatmeal can result in a measurable drop in blood cholesterol. But a more meaningful impact happens around six weeks. “Usually when someone makes a significant diet change, rechecking lab values after two to three months is enough time to assess the impact,” he says. 

Of course, both cardiologists say that the more healthy changes you make, the greater the impact will be. Having a bowl of oatmeal in the morning won’t cancel out eating foods that negatively impact cholesterol the rest of the day. Dr. Makshood also emphasizes that oatmeal is not a replacement for prescription medications that some may need to reduce their cholesterol. 

Want to make your oatmeal even healthier? Dr. Kahn recommends adding cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice or ground cloves, which are all high in heart-healthy antioxidants. Both cardiologists say that adding fruit or nuts increases the heart health benefits even more. 

“There is no single ‘magic’ food for cholesterol reduction. Oatmeal is beneficial, but it works best as part of an overall heart -healthy lifestyle,” Dr. Makshood says. But starting your day with a bowl of oats certainly can kickstart your day on a healthy note. If you stick with heart-healthy habits, you’ll see a difference sooner than you think.

What’s On Netflix confirms that the Julia Roberts rom-com will leave Netflix on July 1, 2026. It’s not alone, as hits like Bohemian Rhapsody and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle are also on the movie.

Netflix periodically loses licensed content, and it’s completely natural and understandable. The contracts only last for a period of time, and then the movies head to other streaming platforms. There’s no word yet on where the ‘90s wedding rom-com is heading after this, and sometimes, there can be a break.

This doesn’t mean it will be gone forever. Movies of the ‘90s come and go from the streaming platforms.

The good news is that you still have time to check out the global hit again. The benefit of having the advanced news means that you can plan out some of your evenings and weekends.

My Best Friend’s Wedding is a must-watch. It remains a timeless movie, and part of that is likely due to the way it avoided the typical romance tropes. This wasn’t a case of a story of friends-to-lovers, despite what seemed to be set up at the beginning. It brought a beautiful tale of friendship, acceptance, and honor.

The 1997 movie starred Roberts as a woman who agreed to be a part of her best friend’s wedding. That best friend was played by Dermot Mulroney, and Roberts’ character soon realized that she had feelings for him. She tells him, hoping that he will call off the wedding and choose her, but that’s not how the story ends up going. Cameron Diaz also starred as the bride-to-be.

There are talks of a sequel after almost 30 years, according to Collider. This is the time to catch up before My Best Friend’s Wedding leaves Netflix.

A woman on the Subreddit Am I The A**hole (AITA) asked others if she was in the wrong for wanting to retire early. She’s nearly 52 and has an arrangement with her employer that allows her to retire after 30 years, with 80% of her salary. Her biggest obstacle, however, isn’t the decision to retire; it’s her husband.

Yahoo! Finance wrote a piece about the woman’s situation. When she hits that 30-year milestone, the company will allow her to retire with 80% of her salary. She plans to take on a part-time job to make up the difference. Instead of supporting her desire to work part-time, her husband of 20 years demanded that she stay employed full-time because he also had to work full-time. 

She continued to elaborate by saying she had worked in this career since middle school. She planned, got scholarships, paid her way through school, and stuck with a company she didn’t always love when she wanted to try something new. She put in her 30 years and now wants to pivot. 

Reddit wasn’t pleased. The top comment said the husband wasn’t supportive but rather wanted the two of them to “suffer in solidarity.” Another commenter said her husband had a “crabs in a barrel” mentality, where he was dragging her back down with him when she was finally almost free.

The woman’s story, husband’s reaction, and comments on the post all highlight a larger problem. Unreasonable requests, emotionally immature reactions, and lack of support for a partner all build up resentment. Marriages over 50 fall apart at an alarmingly faster rate than younger couples, and most of it stems from small resentments that build and snowball over time. 

Purdue University assistant professor, Rosie Shrout, notes that, “People are less willing to endure unhappy marriages for so long and are more optimistic that they will find another partner.” It’s one reason, she says, that you see higher-than-average divorce rates among couples after the age of 50. 

A study published on The National Library of Medicine’s website regarding long-term happy marriages states, “the most prominent aspects of couples’ relationships linked to marital stability consisted of religion, sexual relationship, commitment, intimacy, and congruence in values and beliefs.”

That last section about congruence in values and beliefs can apply to our friend, who has more than earned the right to change her life situation by retiring from a job that didn’t always make her happy. Hopefully, her husband gets on board, and they can find a new rhythm to a happy life.

Reality TV villain turned mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt is still in the running. Even though he didn’t win Tuesday’s race for the mayor of Los Angeles, he’ll join incumbent Mayor Karen Bass in a November runoff. NBCLA 4’sRobert Kovacik caught up with The Hills alum’s mother, Janet Pratt, on election night. And she had plenty to say about her son.

Even though he’s not running a national campaign, Pratt’s race for mayor has gone viral. What started as a small, almost grassroots effort to make a change in the city after losing his home in the Palisades fire, Spencer quickly took things to the next level and did something almost no one (except for his mom) expected. He became a serious candidate for mayor. 

Like Spencer, his parents also lost their home in the LA fires. Pratt’s mother told NBCLA, “It’s been really hard. I’m still crying daily.” She continued, sharing her thoughts on Spencer’s decision to join the mayoral race: “I was hopeful that he would win, but the other half of the mom in me was hopeful that he wouldn’t. I haven’t said that to him.”

Why wouldn’t Spencer’s mom want him to become the mayor of L.A.? She explained, “Because it’s a four-year process term and he has two little boys and an amazing wife, and I just don't want anything to be taken away from them.”

When asked if she thinks the former reality TV star with no political experience is a serious contender for the job, Pratt’s mother fiercely defends her son, saying, “Well, look who had political experience and look what she didn’t do. She allowed our town to burn down, both of our homes, all of our friends' homes, our neighbor’s home.”

Like most moms, Pratt (Janet, that is) is her son’s number one cheerleader. When the conversation turned to whether she thinks he could manage a city as large as Los Angeles, she told Kovacik,  “Absolutely. Yes, he has the drive and the brains to do it.” 

As of Thursday morning (June 4, 2026), the race is still undecided. While Pratt is projected to win the second slot and join Bass in a fall runoff, city council member Nithya Raman is still a contender.

The concert, titled Last Call: One More for the Road – The Finale, is scheduled for June 27 and sold out during presales last year. The event will feature appearances from major country stars including Carrie Underwood, Luke Combs, Miranda Lambert, Eric Church and Keith Urban but NBC hasn't yet announced which guest stars will air in the televised version.

Jackson’s remarkable catalog of hits spanning more than three decades will be featured, including the songs that helped define modern country music and cemented his place as one of the genre’s all-time greatest performers.

A member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and an inductee to the Songwriters Hall of Fame, Jackson’s membership among music’s all-time greats is part of a long line of career-defining accolades that include three CMA Entertainer of the Year honors, more than 30 years of membership in the Grand Ole Opry, a Billboard ranking as one of the Top 10 country artists of all-time, induction to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Heritage Award as the most-performed country songwriter-artist of ASCAP’s first 100 years.

In 2021, Jackson revealed that he was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease, an inherited neurological disorder that affects the nerves and gradually impacts balance, coordination and muscle strength. The condition is progressive and has no cure, but it is not considered fatal, which means that while Jackson may no longer tour as a result, it doesn’t mean he won’t be able to make music.

"The creative part jumps out every now and then and I’m always scribbling down ideas and thinking about melodies and I feel like there’ll be some more music to come," Jackson told his daughter Mattie during a 2023 appearance on her podcast.

No specific date has yet been given for the concert special, other than to say that Alan Jackson: The Last Show will air later this year on NBC and stream next day on Peacock.

In the early nineties, alt-rock band Mazzy Star released a track that would become a timeless love anthem. "Fade Into You" is a hit that features all of the elements of a classic love song: passionate lyrics, a slow and haunting melody, and a memorable music video.

The beloved track was released in 1993 on the band's second studio album, So Tonight That I Might See, and quickly became one of the band's most iconic releases to date.

The song has become a go-to addition to movie and TV soundtracks, used when a particular scene wants to portray feelings of love and longing, and during the emotional moments when the characters are yearning for one another. Case in point: the song is played during a Season 1 episode ofGilmore Girls, when Rory (Alexis Bledel) and Dean (Jared Padalecki) are about to have their first kiss at the winter formal.

Despite becoming hugely popular, the song never reached the No. 1 spot on the charts. In the U.S., "Fade Into You" peaked at No. 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 2 on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. In the U.K., the track reached No. 48 on the Official Singles chart. At the time of writing, it has been streamed over one billion times on Spotify.

“I thought it was a beautiful song, and we jammed on it for a while. And then it eventually it made the cut,” singer Hope Sandoval said in a 2018 interview with news.com.au.

"Fade Into You" was written in just a day, which is an impressive feat. "We weren't trying to write a hit song — we were just writing a song," guitarist and composer David Roback, added at the time. "I think we had a melody and a feel, and we just followed that feel. And that became the song."

April of this year marked a decade since His Royal Badness tragically passed away.

The legacy of Prince carries on, of course, and his estate is now releasing a 10-song collection that features previously unreleased tracks from across his entire career, Variety reports.

Timeless, as it's been dubbed, is said to span from 1977 through the year of his death and will be released on August 28.

The announcement coincides with the unveiling of “Stone,” a previously unreleased recording from spring 1995 that was uploaded the late artist's official YouTube page on Wednesday, June 3. Check it out below.

The announcement is also pegged to Prince Celebration 2026, taking place until June 7 across Paisley Park and downtown Minneapolis, Variety also noted. A special event on Friday, June 5 will feature appearances from NPG, The Revolution’s Bobby Z and Lisa Coleman, and more.

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey had officially proclaimed June 1–7, 2026, “Prince Celebration Week." The city's skyline will reportedly be illuminated in purple on Saturday, June 6 — the evening before the "Purple Rain" singer's birthday.

Back on April 2, the Prince estate previewed Timeless with the release of “With This Tear," which was originally recorded at Paisley Park in 1991 and is a complete Prince solo performance, per Variety. Have a listen below.

Earlier this month, meanwhile, marked a 41-year milestone for Prince and the Revolution's psychedelic dance hit, “Raspberry Beret.” Released on May 15, 1985, the song marked a significant departure from the musical style the icon had embraced on the sweeping ballad “Purple Rain,” released the year prior, signaling a creative evolution in both sound and artistic direction.

On June 4, 2026, rock icon Stevie Nicks just made a major contribution to honor a physician who has helped keep her voice healthy throughout nearly five decades of performing.

The Fleetwood Mac singer and two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee recently completed the funding needed to establish the Stevie Nicks and Joseph Sugerman, MD, Endowed Chair in Otolaryngology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC. Her gift helped reach the $3 million goal for the endowed chair, which was also supported by contributions from other donors.

The new chair honors Dr. Joseph Sugerman, a Beverly Hills ear, nose and throat specialist who has spent nearly 50 years caring for patients and helping performers preserve and restore their voices.

According to the press release, Sugerman has also played an important role in training future specialists through his work as an adjunct faculty member in the USC Caruso Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery.

“Through late nights on the road, years of touring, hours in the recording studio, I always knew I could count on Dr. Sugerman to be there to help keep my voice healthy, just as he does for his other patients,” Nicks said.

“I am thrilled to have this opportunity to acknowledge his talent and insights and mark his many years of outstanding practice.”

The inaugural holder of the Stevie Nicks and Joseph Sugerman, MD, Endowed Chair in Otolaryngology is Dr. Michael M. Johns, director of the USC Voice Center and a leading expert in professional voice care.

Nicks' connection to USC stretches back decades. In 1979, Fleetwood Mac invited the USC Trojan Marching Band to record the title track of the band's landmark album Tusk at Dodger Stadium and later perform the song live on tour.

The collaboration became one of the most memorable moments in USC music history and helped strengthen the relationship between the university and one of rock's most successful bands.

USC wrote of Nicks in its press release, "Rolling Stone has called her the 'Reigning Queen of Rock and Roll' and included her in its 100 Greatest Songwriters and 100 Greatest Singers of all time."

Nicks has often spoken about the physical demands of life on the road, making access to specialized vocal care especially important throughout her career.

Dr. Sugerman said he was moved by the support shown by his patients and fellow donors.

“I am touched and humbled by the support of my patients who have extended themselves to create this endowed chair, which will be dedicated to advancing vocal medicine,” he said. “I’m especially excited that this will strengthen the outstanding programs at the USC Voice Center.”

The endowed chair will support ongoing work in vocal medicine and help advance research, education and patient care for people with voice, swallowing and airway disorders.

When you think about Trader Joe's, the words "affordable" and "unique" may come to mind. There had been rumors about the pastel-striped canvas mini totes for months, with influencer Trader Joe's Obsessed even sharing photos of them. That's because there are plenty of great books that can help guide you in retirement, including financial guides that can help you figure out your income streams, to a fictional book that one expert says can teach you how to exist in a world where the structure you've lived with for decades is suddenly gone. I spoke with several financial experts to see which books they recommend people read a year before retirement, and here's what they had to offer up.

If you're looking for a book to read within a year of retirement, David Kerber, CFP®, CRPC®, MPAS®, ABFP℠, Managing Partner at Mercer Advisors, suggests Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less by Greg McKeown. He says that readers will be left with three key takeaways that will help them in retirement, including:

• It's important to be deliberate about where you choose to spend your time and energy
• How to identify the highest impact activities, which will help you cut out trivial stuff
• How to design systems and routines that will reinforce those activities and behaviors

"Traditionally, this book could be viewed as a good read for the 'busy' working person who needs to prioritize what is essential, but I would argue it is as important, if not more important, for the retired person who may have more of a blank canvas and needs to prioritize what is important when painting that canvas," Kerber says.

While many experts recommended financial-focused books, Elizabeth Ralph, a former trader turned financial educator at The Spiritual Investor, went another route with All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque.

"This may seem like an unusual recommendation because it isn't a retirement or money book." Ralph says, adding that what makes it powerful is that it's ultimately about what happens when the structures you relied on disappear. "Retirement can be a similar experience," she continues. "The book is a reminder that when one chapter ends, another can begin, even if you can't fully see what it looks like yet."

Trigger warning: This book is a novel about World War I, and contains death, trauma, and suffering.

The book The Four Phases of Retirement: What to Expect When You're Retiring by Riley Moynes focuses on the often overlooked realities of identity and purpose in retirement, according to Jacob Sadler, CFP, Founder and Senior Advisor at Curio Wealth.

"The take away is that the transition to retirement is one of the biggest shifts in your entire life, understand what is about to happen, and the different ways it might impact you as you navigate a new reality," he says, adding that the people he sees succeed in retirement the most are the ones who "make retirement happen," instead of letting "retirement happen to them."

A play on the title of the popular 1994 movie Reality Bites, Bobbi Rebell, CFP® and Personal Finance Expert at BadCredit.org, says that Retirement Bites: A Gen X Guide to Securing Your Financial Future by Kerry Hannon is a great read.

"It is aimed at Gen X-ers (like myself) who are approaching retirement and often forgotten between the boomers and the millennials," she says. "The book uses relatable pop culture references to grab the reader. It’s very story driven and if a money book can be a page turner—this is it."

That being said, Rebell notes that the advice is solid, practical, and accessible. "Highlights include realistic tough love, including working in retirement and health care planning, in addition to building a realistic financial plan even if you are starting late."

Easily the most frequently recommended book on this list, The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel, gets a lot of praise for teaching readers that financial success is determined by more than just your investments, but instead your behaviors.

"The biggest thing is this: the financial transition into retirement is manageable," says Alex Langan, Chief Investment Officer and Financial Advisor at Langan Financial Group, LLC. "The psychological one is harder and gets almost no preparation time."

Langan says that the book makes the case that smart people make poor financial decisions all the time, "not because they lack knowledge but because emotions get in the way, especially during uncertainty and market volatility." For those about to shift from accumulating wealth to drawing it down, that insight is genuinely valuable.
