Here's How Many Lunges To Do Weekly To Support Knee Health, According to Orthopedic Doctors
Knee pain is incredibly common, especially as we age. In fact, about 5% of primary care visits are because of knee pain. Protecting your knees is crucial. It's understandable to see numbers like that and think that keeping your knees safe means not exercising them—however, orthopedic doctors emphasize it's crucial to incorporate movements like lunges into your weekly routine to support knee health.
"Most people assume the knee is fragile, but the truth is it actually thrives when you move it regularly and with purpose," says Dr. Gbolahan Okubadejo, MD, an NYC-based spinal and orthopaedic surgeon. "The cartilage in your knee doesn't have its own blood supply, so it relies on the compression and release of movement to absorb nutrients and stay healthy."
Dr. Okubadejo is used to working with patients with knee braces, but he says that strong knee muscles act as a natural brace that absorbs shock, "so the joint itself doesn't have to take the full beating."
"Sitting for long periods and avoiding activity actually accelerates knee degeneration far more than moderate exercise ever would," Dr. Okubadejo says. "Building a consistent movement habit keeps the joint lubricated, the surrounding tissue resilient and your knees functioning well into old age."
While lunges may not be your favorite exercise, your knees are sure to get a sense of delayed gratification when you do them.
"Lunges directly exercise the hamstrings, quadriceps and gluteal muscles," states Dr. Luke Garbarino, MD, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in hip and knee replacement surgery at Northwell Health. "The abdominal muscles, hip abductors and calf muscles are also involved in stabilizing the body during lunges, so they are exercised as well."
One lunge one time won't cut it—but you probably know that. Making a habit of doing lunges each week can go a long way in supporting knees. To help you find the right cadence, orthopedic doctors shared exactly how many lunges to do weekly to support knee health.

How Many Lunges Should I Do Each Week To Support Knee Health?"Hitting lunges two to three times a week with a rest day in between is a solid goal," Dr. Okubadejo says. "Starting with three sets of ten per leg gives you a solid foundation without overdoing it. Consistency is what actually moves the needle here."
That being said, he shares that there's no agreed-upon "perfect" number of lunges to do each week for better knee health.
Dr. Garbarino agrees, explaining, "There's no number of lunges to hit in a week. However, people should aim for daily exercise to support general health, and lunges can be a component of that."
Dr. David Shau, MD, an assistant professor at the Burnett School of Medicine at TCU, also said the number can vary and isn't just based on your current fitness level.
"The right dose is the highest amount your knee tolerates without swelling, instability or next-day flare," he says.
Dr. Shau shares that he suggests:
- Healthy individuals do 2-3 sets of 8-10 reps of lunges on each leg twice per week, using bodyweight to start (32-60 lunges per leg per week)
- People with known knee arthritis do 1-2 sets of 6-8 lunges (each leg) once or twice per week (6-16 lunges per leg per week). He says that doing shallower or reverse lunges at first works well for people with knee arthritis.
- Recovered knee replacement patient waits to get the doctor's approval before proceeding to 1–2 sets of 6–8 reps per leg once per week (6–8). Be sure to talk to your care team about modifications, such as starting with a split squat.
Dr. Garbarino adds that sometimes the best number of lunges to do weekly to support your knee health is…none.
"If someone is returning from injury, particularly hamstring or quadriceps injuries, then they may want to wait on lunges," Dr. Garbarino says. "These exercises can re-aggravate an injury that is not yet ready to return to exercise. Therefore, patients should wait until approved by their physician."

Why Lunges Support Knee HealthDr. Okubadejo is a big fan of lunges because they are a more complete lower-body exercise, hitting numerous muscle groups rather than isolating one.
"The quadriceps, which run along the front of the thigh, take on a significant load during the descent and are directly responsible for stabilizing the kneecap as it tracks through movement," he explains. "The glutes and hamstrings work together to control how your hip and knee align, which matters enormously because poor alignment is one of the leading causes of knee pain and injury."
OK, but what does that mean for the knees?
"When these muscles are weak or imbalanced, the knee compensates by absorbing stress it was never designed to handle alone," Dr. Okubadejo states.

How To Do a LungeTo perform a traditional or reverse lunge, Dr. Shau says to:
- Stand tall, with your feet hip-width apart.
- Engage your core.
- Step forward or backward.
- Lower straight down under control.
- Keep the front knee tracking over the second or third toe.
- Keep pressure through the heel and midfoot.
- Push through the front leg to return.

You'll also want to avoid certain mistakes when doing lunges to avoid injuring the knee or other body parts (or just getting nothing out of them).
Dr. Okubadejo says common lunge mistakes to avoid include:
- Letting your front knee cave inward. The Rx here is to ensure it tracks straight over your toes the entire time, Dr. Okubadejo reports.
- Leaning your torso too far forward. Form check! "Your chest should stay upright, not hunched over your front leg," Dr. Okubadejo says.
- Having a "short step." "If your stride is too narrow, your knee shoots past your toes and puts a ton of pressure on the joint," Dr. Okubadejo explains.
- Dropping your back knee too fast. Use slow, controlled movements as you lower your knee. "Slamming it down is how you bruise it and lose all the muscle work," Dr. Okubadejo warns.

5 More Moves for Better KneesLunges aren't the only knee-supporting moves you can incorporate in your workout routine. Orthopedic doctors shared five more.
1. Leg extensionsHow-to by: Dr. Garbarino
To perform a leg extension:
- Sit straight up in a chair.
- Slowly extend the knee and straighten the leg until the knee is fully extended.
- Hold this position and flex the knee to 90 degrees.
- Repeat on the opposite leg. (Dr. Garbarino suggests doing 10 reps on either side.)
Dr. Garbarino says people can progress to using ankle weights as their legs get stronger.
2. SquatsHow-to by: Dr. Garbarino
To perform squats:
- Stand up straight with your feet shoulder-width apart. (Dr. Garbarino notes that you can place your back on a wall if you need a balance booster.)
- Keeping the back straight and the torso upright, bend at the knees and hold position.
- Stand up straight again.
How-to by: Dr. Shau
Dr. Shau describes this move as foundational, simple and effective. To do a sit-to-stand:
- Lean slightly forward from a chair.
- Drive through the heels to stand.
- Lower back down to the chair using control.
How-to by: Dr. Shau
Dr. Shau likes that this move targets single-leg control and helps people build confidence to climb stairs with ease. To do a step-up:
- Get a low step.
- Put your foot on the step.
- Drive up through that leg.
- Lower slowly.
How-to: Dr. Okubadejo
- Lie on your side with your knees bent and stacked.
- Keep your feet together and rotate your top knee open like a clamshell.
- Hold for a second at the top.
- Lower slowly and repeat.

Beloved '90s Sitcom Star Causes a Stir in Beachside Photo From Early Modeling Days
Jenna Elfman is best known for her role as Dharma Montgomery in the hit '90s sitcom, Dharma & Greg, but before she brought the laughs, the blonde beauty tried her hand at modeling "for like 5 seconds."
On Sunday, Mar. 1, Elfmanreminded her fans of those modeling days with a series of five photos she shared on Instagram. In them, we see her in her early 20s, looking svelte in a beachside shot where she looked off into the distance while wearing a plunging black underbust unitard paired with a white tank top. In the photo, Elfman's hair is much longer and a bit darker than the short blonde messy bob she made famous in Dharma & Greg.
In the second photo, Elman was ready for cold weather and romance as she smiled while carrying a tote full of red roses over her shoulder. She wore a heavy grey jacket, winter gloves and a black hat. The third photo featured the same outfit and roses, this time giving viewers a look at the calf-length buffalo plaid dress she wore under that heavy jacket.
View this post on InstagramIn the fourth photo, Elfman had long, wavy strawberry blonde locks and a serious expression as she pressed her red lips together and looked away from the camera. In this photo, she wore a black hat, a white pullover, and several strings of beads around her neck.
The fifth and final photo brought us back to the beginning, this time showing the full-length beach shot where Elfman posed in the black unitard, with long, slender legs as she held her jacket behind her back and looked on wistfully.
In the caption, Elfman wrote, "Annnnnnd more from the 90’s. EARLY 90’s. When I modeled for like 5 seconds."
Elfman's fans were quick to pile on the praise with one writing, "Back in the day! Looking good then and now!"
Another chimed in, telling her, "Wow you look amazing."
"Always Gorgeous ❤️❤️" a third added.
Much of the comments section was filmed with hearts and fire emojis with a fourth comment calling Elfman a "classic beauty."
Her current sitcom, Shifting Gears, is currently awaiting a season 3 renewal after scoring high ratings for its season 2 finale.
Liam Neeson’s Son Shares Touching Post From Hospital Bed After Undergoing Heart Surgery
Liam Neeson's sonDaniel shared a touching post from his hospital bed after undergoing heart surgery.
Daniel, 29, took to Instagram to share that he was born with BAV (Bicuspid Aortic Valve), a condition where the aortic valve has two leaflets instead of the normal three. The tequila founder shared that roughly 2% of the human population has the condition, and many of them don't even know it because it can stay dormant for years before it begins causing valve failure or enlargement of the aorta.
"For me, I had biannual cardiology checkups for most of my life, monitoring my heart. Eventually, I started to experience severe left ventricular dilation and aortic enlargement. I knew it was heading toward medical intervention. Some people with BAV are operated on later in life, but I drew the early-bird straw," wrote Daniel, whose mother is the late Natasha Richardson. Daniel shared a series of photos from his hospital bed as he underwent the procedure and worked toward regaining his strength in recovery. His father, Liam, could be seen trailing behind him as he walked with a medical provider down the hospital hall.
View this post on Instagram Daniel's Positive AttitudeIn the caption, Daniel shared a touching message about living without fear while facing challenging obstacles.
"The recovery trail is beautiful, patient, and rewarding. Always advocate for yourself and listen to your body. Everyone should have their hearts checked by a cardiologist, even if they don’t have any known defects," Neeson shared. "Most importantly, surrender to the present moment. Don’t live in fear. The universe has your back when you learn to dance with it."
Honoring His Loved OnesNeeson thanked his family and his fiancée, Natalie Ackerman, for standing by him through his health struggles.
"Thank you to my rock @natalieack and to my family for being there every day," he wrote in the caption, to which Ackerman responded, "As if we didn’t know you had a big heart already!!!"
Neeson also made sure to thank his medical team at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
"I am forever grateful to Dr. Leonard Girardi and his remarkable team at Weill Cornell / NewYork-Presbyterian for taking unbelievable care of me. To the ICU team and nurses - truly some of the greatest people on the planet - thank you. They deserve all the praise in the world," he wrote.

Angelina Jolie's Relationship Status Revealed Since Divorce From Brad Pitt
The road to the divorce between Angeline Jolie and Brad Pitt was a long one, with the two having officially settled the end of their marriage in late 2024. A source close to Jolie opens up about where the actor stands on having a relationship, or if she's already moved on with someone new.
The source told People that the Maleficent actor has been too busy focusing on her work to worry about a relationship. Above all, Jolie has focused on her six children, Maddox, 24, Pax, 22, Zahara, 21, Shiloh, 19, and 17-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.
"Angie has been extremely busy and focused for the past few years. Dating hasn't been important to her. She hasn't had a boyfriend," said the source. "She's pretty much been a single mom since the divorce, so that's where most of her focus has been."
Jolie's attention on family has always been noted throughout her career, with the source saying she "loves" being a mom. She's focused on wanting "to make sure that everyone thrives."

Pitt and Jolie were a notorious A-list couple who met on the set of Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005, while both were married to other people at the time. The couple began dating, with Pitt having later adopted Jolie's eldest son Maddox, whom she adopted from Cambodia in 2002. They eventually married in 2014 and divorced two years later, citing irreconcilable differences and the split stemming from a supposed in-flight incident between Pitt and her children.
What followed was one of Hollywood’s longest and most complex divorce proceedings as the two disputed the custody arrangement and shared assets. Their divorce was officially finalized in 2024, with Jolie not publicly appearing in a new relationship since.
Pitt, on the other hand, was speculated to have been with a few women over the years since the divorce. He began dating jewelry executive Ines de Ramos in November 2022.

Savannah Guthrie's Mom Nancy Update: Key Detail Could Have Prevented Abduction, Says SWAT Commander
Today co-anchor Savannah Guthrie‘s mom, Nancy Guthrie, remains missing more than a month later—and a key detail may have prevented the abduction, a former SWAT commander recently speculated.
On March 2, Surviving The Survivor: #BestGuests in True Crime podcast host Joel Waldman interviewed Bob Kyrgie, a retired Pima County Sheriff’s Department (PCSD) lieutenant and former SWAT commander, as well as one of Nancy's neighbors, Jeff Lamie.
During the episode, Lamie confirmed that Nancy, 84, previously owned a small dog, which reportedly died in December 2025, according to Waldman.
"It was a little black terrier," Lamie shared. "We would see it sometimes, in the past, with her in the front yard. But we had learned—as I had mentioned, we had seen a bit less of her lately—and we learned that her dog had passed away."
Additionally, Waldman asked Kyrgie if the dog could have prevented Nancy's kidnapping or changed the outcome in any way.
"I don’t think it's a ridiculous notion at all," Kyrgie said. "When someone is doing something like this, the last thing they want is attention, especially in that moment."
https://www.youtube.com/live/TjKjBIzErQo?si=zMQhKnO3j4yIoggO&t=535
The former SWAT commander explained, “So, having that little yappy dog, like we all do, or a big, strong barky dog, whatever it might be, that’s going to draw attention. That’s going to get Jeff’s attention, a few houses down, especially at 1 o'Clock in the morning."
He added, "Anything like that is an advantage. It’s something to make the bad guy feel uncomfortable, and hopefully, more likely to say, 'I don't need this right now,' and get in [their] car and drive away.”

On Feb. 1, the PCSD launched a search for Nancy after she was last seen at her Catalina Foothills residence on Jan. 31. Savannah and her siblings, Annie and Camron, have sent multiple video messages to the potential captor since then, after receiving several alleged ransom notes. Most recently, Savannah offered a $1 million reward for any information leading to Nancy’s return.
In a Feb. 27 statement, the PCSD—after withdrawing multiple officers from Tucson—said, “This remains an active investigation and will continue until Nancy Guthrie is located or all leads have been exhausted,” per People. “The Pima County Sheriff’s Department is refocusing resources to detectives specifically assigned to this case. As leads are developed and resolved, resource allocation may fluctuate. PCSD will maintain a patrol presence in the Guthrie neighborhood.”

Sarah J. Maas Teases Major ‘ACOTAR 6’ News in ‘Call Her Daddy’ Clip
Romantasy fans, the time has finally come.
Sarah J. Maas is going to answer for her July Instagram post that seemingly teases a sixth book in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series.
The popular author is host Alex Cooper’s next guest on the Call Her Daddy podcast, airing tonight, March 4, at 8 p.m. eastern, and by all the spines and storylines it looks like Cooper is going to “grill” the writer into submission.
View this post on InstagramIn an exclusive clip shared with USA Today, Cooper attempts to get to the bottom of Maas’ tease that “quite literally lit the internet on fire.”
“I think we need to address your Instagram post,” Cooper says in the clip, looking pretty in a pink Unwell sweat suit, while Maas, playing coy in jeans and mint-colored cardi, smiles from behind the podcast mic while sitting comfortably in a blushing velour armchair.
“Which one, Alex?” Maas says.
“Well, Sarah, the one that quite literally lit the internet on fire, where fans could not tell if it was an arrow or if it was a ‘6--8,’” Cooper says. “Everyone has been freaking out. And so, I have the pleasure of sitting across from you and so I have to ask, Sarah, what is going on?”
The 30-second clip doesn’t offer much more by way of information, but it does build the anticipation for tonight’s potential big reveal. Maas, the bestselling author and mind behind the Throne of Glass, Crescent City, and ACOTAR series, hasn’t dropped a new release since January 2024, or another ACOTAR installment since 2021, so devotees are champing at the bit for another page-turner.
Last July, Maas posted to Instagram a video of what looks to be the author closing a notebook then popping a bottle of champagne against a scenic backdrop.
“First drafts DONE,” she captioned the post (seen above).
On the notebook, there’s a scribbled ACOTAR and what looks like either a "6" and an arrow or a "6--8." Whatever is meant by the clue, it sents fans into a frenzy, and tonight we should all get some well-deserved clarification.
Cooper teased tonight’s episode with a sneak peek video on her own Instagram, hinting at who her next guest could be. Standing in front of bookshelf stacked with Maas novels, Cooper captioned the post, “Who’s booked next?” with a winky face. Fans went nuts, flipping out even more once Maas and Cooper began following each other on Instagram.
View this post on InstagramEarlier this year, there was no evidence of a sixth ACOTAR book on the Bloomsbury catalog through August 2026. Fingers crossed that all changes tonight!
The next episode of Call Her Daddy airs March 4 at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET.

There's a Stunning New European Hiking Trail In a Country Most People Don't Know About
Mallorca has long been shorthand for beach holidays and budget flights, but a newly completed long distance trail is quietly reshaping how travelers experience the island. The Gran Recorrido del Llevant, a 104 kilometer route in eastern Mallorca, threads together gold sand coves, rural farmland, medieval towns, and prehistoric sites in a way that feels immersive rather than resort focused.
First reported by Time Out, the trail unfolds across four clearly marked stages from Cales de Mallorca to Cala Mesquida. It passes through Manacor, Son Carrió, and Artà, linking coast and countryside with manageable daily distances. Elevation gain is modest, with the highest daily climb sitting just under 250 meters, which makes it accessible to reasonably fit walkers rather than only seasoned trekkers.
What stands out is the variety. One day you are walking through pine forest and agricultural valleys. The next, you are skirting cliffs above quiet Mediterranean water. There are prehistoric Talayotic ruins along the route, as well as Capdepera Castle and the Church of Sant Joan Baptista, reminders that this landscape has been lived in for thousands of years.
Understanding the Trail: What You’ll Experience on Gran Recorrido del LlevantThe Gran Recorrido del Llevant (sometimes called the East Mallorca GR-226) unfolds along the often overlooked eastern flank of Mallorca’s Serra de Llevant range, a landscape that feels very different from the island’s better-known beaches and party towns.
Stretching roughly 104 km in total, the hike is broken into four core sections that each make a satisfying day of walking:
- From Cales de Mallorca to Manacor, you’ll thread pine forests and vineyard scapes inland before looping back toward traditional Mediterranean hamlets.
- The second and third legs, Manacor to Son Carrió and Son Carrió to Artà, wander past farmsteads, through dirt lanes and olive groves, and gently rise into the hills.
- The final stretch from Artà to Cala Mesquida reintroduces the sea, with views opening toward coastal headlands and ocean horizons.
What drew me in about this route is not just its total distance but its versatility. The elevation gain on any day never feels overwhelming, the largest is only about 248 meters, meaning it’s doable for hikers with moderate fitness who are comfortable with a multi-day trek.
Along the way, you’ll pass cultural touchpoints that feel uniquely Mallorcan: the modest but atmospheric Church of Sant Joan Baptista, the history-soaked Capdepera Castle, and lighthouses perched like silent sentinels on rocky promontories.

Mallorca Beyond the Beach ResortsMallorca is not unknown, but much of it is misunderstood. According to official tourism data from the Balearic Islands, the island welcomed more than 13 million visitors in 2024, the vast majority arriving for coastal stays. Most base themselves near Palma or in resort towns along the southwest coast, rarely venturing into the island’s eastern interior.
That is precisely where the Gran Recorrido del Llevant shifts the narrative. The Serra de Llevant Natural Park feels quieter and more elemental than the busy promenades of Magaluf or Palma Nova. Villages like Artà and Son Carrió move at a slower pace, with weekly markets, small bakeries, and cafés that still cater to locals first.
If you extend your trip, Palma deserves at least a day. The Gothic cathedral known as La Seu dominates the skyline, and the old town’s narrow lanes are filled with galleries and shaded courtyards. For nature lovers, the island also offers the Caves of Drach near Porto Cristo and dozens of small calas that reward early starts and a bit of curiosity.
View this post on Instagram How to Get There and When to GoMallorca is part of Spain’s Balearic Islands and is well connected to mainland Europe. Most international travelers fly into Palma de Mallorca Airport, one of Spain’s busiest airports, with year round routes from major European cities and seasonal connections from North America via Madrid or Barcelona.
From Palma, you can reach Manacor by train in about an hour, or rent a car for greater flexibility. The trail’s segmented design means you do not have to walk all 104 kilometers in one trip. Public buses connect several of the towns along the route, which makes point to point hiking realistic without complicated logistics.
Spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons for hiking. Summer temperatures regularly climb above 30 degrees Celsius, and exposed stretches can feel intense in peak heat. Shoulder seasons bring milder weather, green hillsides, and fewer crowds on the path.
What the Trail Offers Today’s TravelerI have always believed that the best way to understand a place is to move through it slowly. The Gran Recorrido del Llevant gives Mallorca that kind of depth. It is not about racing between viewpoints. It is about watching the coastline change over the course of a day and arriving in a town on foot rather than by taxi.
Adventure starts with a click—sign up for our newsletter for travel tips and stories.
For travelers who have dismissed Mallorca as only a summer party destination, this route offers a different perspective. It reveals an island shaped by agriculture, seafaring, and layered history. With visitor numbers continuing to rise, trails like this also help spread tourism beyond the usual hotspots, which benefits both hikers and local communities.

Nancy Guthrie Latest Update: Sheriff Clarifies Mystery of Black Gloves Found Near Crime Scene
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has confirmed that the black gloves discovered near Nancy Guthrie’s home were not related to the investigation. Investigators traced the gloves to a restaurant worker across the street, putting to rest earlier speculation that police may have discarded them.
For a full timeline of events, see our timeline coverage here
"There's so much that everybody wants to know, but I would be very neglectful and irresponsible, as a law enforcement leader, to share that with everybody. You can't. There is an investigation, there is a protocol to that effort," Nanos said, according to KVOA.
Nanos went on to explain the situation with the gloves found at the scene.
"There was some talk and discussion that it was police officers out in the field just discarding them, that is so far from the truth. We knew that at that time, we believed wholeheartedly that those gloves belonged to a restaurant and guess what? The owner of the glove, we found working at a restaurant across the street. It has nothing to do with the case," he continued.
Nanos said that there are additional gloves that were found and sent off to a lab for testing, but those results are still pending.

Last month, the FBI released images and videos of a perp on Guthrie's front stoop. The person in the footage, obtained from Guthrie's Google Nest camera, was wearing a backpack, a balaclava, and a pair of black gloves. Several black gloves were seen in the area in the days that followed, and a few were collected and tested as they appeared to match the ones that the subject in the video footage was wearing. So far, however, the gloves haven't given detectives the lead they need to solve this case.
Guthrie, 84, has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1. Authorities are working around the clock in an effort to locate Guthrie and to find out who is responsible for her disappearance. Anyone with information is asked to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI.

Patricia Heaton Is a Gray-Haired Goddess in 68th Birthday Photo: ‘Might Start Acting My Age This Year'
Patricia Heaton is celebrating her 68th birthday, and she's feeling better than ever!
Heaton starred in Everybody Loves Raymond, which ran for nine seasons from September 13, 1996, to May 16, 2005. The series, which won endless awards during its run, followed Ray Romano as sportswriter and family man, Ray Barone, as he lives on Long Island with his wife, Debra, played by Heaton. Ray’s meddling parents, Marie and Frank, played by Doris Roberts and Peter Boyle, live across the street with their older son, Robert, played by Brad Garrett.
In her post-Raymond life, Heaton keeps getting better and better. The actress has ditched her brown hair to let her natural gray hair shine through, showing off a look that's absolutely stunning and is being embraced by actresses across Hollywood. From Hilarie Burton to Lorraine Bracco, the gray-haired queens are taking over, and we love to see it.
As for Heaton, she celebrated her 68th on Wednesday with a stunning photo featuring a caption that read "might start acting my age this year. nah." We love to see it!

“Walk softly -and wear fabulous boots!” she captioned the stunning photo.

If anyone left their mark in this world, it's David Bowie.
David Robert Jones, better known as David Bowie, was an English singer and actor who rose to fame throughout the 1970s and 1980s, thanks to his hit song, "Space Oddity." During his lifetime, the rock singer released 26 studio albums, along with a posthumous record titled Toy in 2021.
The singer made music all the way up until his death in January 2016, when he passed away in his New York City apartment due to liver cancer. He was diagnosed 18 months prior, but did not make his condition public.

Despite his death a decade ago, Bowie and his music still have a huge impact in this century. In an article published by Ultimate Classic Rock earlier last year, they named what they thought were the "Top 25 Rock Albums of the 21st Century." Multiple iconic albums from various bands were listed such as Iron Maiden's Brave New World, Modern Vampires of the City by Vampire Weekend, American Idiot by Green Day and more, but this iconic Bowie album came out on top.
Released on his 69th birthday on Jan 8, 2016, two days before he died, Bowie released what became his final album, Blackstar. He wrote all seven tracks, and the record was made in secret in New York City throughout 2015 with his longtime collaborator and producer, Tony Visconti, and a group of local jazz musicians. Visconti described the album as a goodbye gift for his fans after his death.
"He made Blackstar for us, his parting gift," Visconti wrote on Facebook a day after Bowie's death. "I knew for a year this was the way it would be. I wasn’t, however, prepared for it."
The album was a commercial success and became the only album to top the Billboard 200 in the United States. Blackstar was his fifth best-selling album of 2016, and won three Grammy Awards and a Brit Award the next year. After his death, many fans and journalists reanalyzed the album and searched for hidden messages the singer may have left behind. But Blackstar was not the first time Bowie sang about the concepts of mortality and death in his music.
"He always did what he wanted to do. And he wanted to do it his way and he wanted to do it the best way," Visconti wrote. "His death was no different from his life - a work of Art."

The World's Most Recognized Song Was Published More Than 100 Years Ago Today
Few songs are as instantly recognizable as "Happy Birthday to You." For over a century, this simple tune has transcended language, culture, and generations, becoming a universal anthem for celebration. Today, we mark more than 100 years since the song was first published, cementing its place as one of the most enduring pieces of music in history.
It was on March 4, 1924, that "Happy Birthday to You" was published by Clayton F. Summy Co. But the song originated in 1893 and has quite the storied beginnings.
"Happy Birthday to You" began as a classroom greeting song called "Good Morning to All," composed by sisters Mildred J. Hill and Patty Hill. Mildred, a talented pianist and composer, created the melody, while Patty, an educator, wrote the original lyrics for her kindergarten students in Louisville, Kentucky, to sing at school:
"Good morning to you / Good morning to you / Good morning, dear children / Good morning to all."
Related: What Is the March Birth Flower? Celebrate March Birthdays With This Beautiful Bloom
Patty said the song was intended to express "those words and emotions and ideas fitted to the limited musical ability of a young child," according to Smithsonian.
It wasn't until years later—somewhere between 1911 and 1912—that the now-familiar birthday lyrics were paired with the melody, transforming it from a simple school song into the global celebration staple we know today.
"The story goes that one or both of the sisters were at a birthday party at the summer cabin, and that's where the lyrics were changed," Mick Sullivan, a curator at Louisville's Frazier History Museum, which houses a panel on the legendary sisters in its "Cool Kentucky" exhibition, told Smithsonian. "One of the points of the song was that you could just change it. Instead of 'Good Morning to All,' if it was Friday, they might say, 'Good Friday to You.'"
By the early 20th century, the tune—with its new birthday lyrics—had spread beyond classrooms and homes, appearing in public celebrations and films.
The song's simplicity—a short, memorable melody paired with repetitive lyrics—helped it stick in memory and made it easy for anyone to sing. It quickly became a cultural constant. Despite its ubiquity, however, the song's legal history was surprisingly complex.
For decades, a copyright claim limited its commercial use, particularly in movies, Broadway, TV shows, and advertisements. In 1935, Jessica Mateer Hill—the youngest Hill sister—authorized the Clayton F. Summy Company, which had published the original Song Stories for the Kindergarten, to release a new copyrighted version of the "Happy Birthday" song.
It wasn't until 2016, however, that legal disputes eventually concluded the song belongs to the public domain, allowing anyone to perform or use it freely.
Over 100 years and countless copyright conflicts later, the song is arguably one of the most recognized tunes in the world. And every time we sing those familiar words, we participate in a century-old tradition that continues to create connection and bring joy.

For travelers who subscribe to a less-is-more philosophy both on the road and in everyday life, the goal is simple: versatile pieces that work hard, save space and eliminate unnecessary extras.
To narrow down what truly earns a spot in a carry-on for a minimalist, we spoke with travel expert and content creator Arianna Sartzetakis, the founder of Uncover More, a travel discovery platform known for curating top destination recommendations, including restaurants, hotels, and experiences across global cities.
I also added a few of my tried-and-tested favorites that have become staples after years of frequent flying and testing accessories as a destinations weddings and travel-gear writer for outlets such as Martha StewartWeddings and Travel & Leisure.

For minimalist travelers, versatility is everything, and a compact rain jacket eliminates the need for bulkier outerwear while ensuring you’re prepared for shifting forecasts in any city.

Robert Downey Jr. Just Helped Launch Disney’s Largest Cruise Ship Ever—and It Has a Roller Coaster
While the Disney Adventure is officially setting sail on the other side of the globe, the news of its star-studded christening in Singapore this morning has plenty for U.S. fans to get excited about. Not only is this the largest ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet to date, but it is also making history with a "Godparent" who knows a thing or two about being a hero.
In a move that delighted Marvel fans everywhere, Robert Downey Jr. appeared to officially christen the vessel. "I’ve had the privilege of getting to know the team at Walt Disney Imagineering, and I can tell you Adventure is the perfect name for what they’ve created," he said during the ceremony. Before the traditional blessing, the Iron Man star quipped to the 23-piece orchestra, "You bring the theme and I’ll bring the thunder."
For stateside Disney devotees, the Disney Adventure represents a massive leap in what a cruise ship can actually do. Most notably, it is home to the Ironcycle Test Run, the first-ever roller coaster at sea for Disney Cruise Line. The ship features seven immersive themed lands, including a full San Fransokyo Street from Big Hero 6 and a brand-new Broadway-style musical titled "Remember."

With eight ships now in the fleet and five more planned by 2031, the "magic" is clearly moving at full speed. Whether you’re ready to fly to Singapore for the maiden voyage on March 10 or you’re just waiting for these new high-tech features to hit a ship closer to home, the message from the christening was clear: Disney is ready to "bring the thunder" to the high seas.
Padma Lakshmi’s Love Life: From Ex-Husband to Possible Mystery Romance with 'Top Chef' Winner
Padma Lakshmi’s relationship history is as spicy as her crab cakes with chili, from her high-profile marriage to novelist Salman Rushdie to her on-again, off-again romances with powerful businessmen.
Reflecting on her storied romantic past, Lakshmi, now 55, shared, “I think when I was young, I was looking for a mentor and a mate perhaps or just felt lost. It's really hard to find a man who keeps your attention, regardless of age, and that's what I'm looking for now.”
With her new competition series, America’s Culinary Cup, premiering March 4 on CBS, take a look back at who Lakshmi has called a husband, who she’s dated, and why some fans now think she’s now in a relationship with fellow chef Melissa King.
Does Padma Lakshmi have a husband? No. The former Top Chef host has been married once, to author Salman Rushdie. The two wed in 2004 after dating for several years, and were divorced in 2007.
She also had a long-term on-off relationship with venture capitalist Adam Dell, with whom she shares a daughter, that ended in 2021, but the couple was never married.
“I don’t feel I need to be married,” she told Wendy Williams in 2018, when she and Dell were still an item. “I think my life is great. I don’t need a certificate to prove anything.”

Is Padma still married to Salman Rushdie?Nope. They were married for about three years, from 2004 to 2007. At the time, their relationship drew major media attention, both for their roughly 23-year age gap and Rushdie’s literary fame, which was defined in part by the threats he received to his life: In 1989, Iranian leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini ordered a fatwa—a religious edict—calling for the author’s death in response to Rushdie’s supposedly “blasphemous” novel The Satanic Verses.
Decades later, in 2022, the fatwa culminated in Rushdie being stabbed multiple times, including in the neck, as he was about to give a public lecture at the Chautauqua Institution in Chautauqua, New York. After he was confirmed to be pulling through following surgery, Lakshmi showed support for her ex on Twitter (now X). “Worried and wordless, can finally exhale,” she wrote. “Now hoping for swift healing.”

How did Padma Lakshmi and ex-husband Salman Rushdie meet? The two first crossed paths at a party in New York in 1999. At the time, Rushdie was still married to his third wife (he’s had five total) and Lakshmi was a cookbook author building a multi-hyphenate career as a model and actress.
“For us Indians, he’s like Hemingway,” Lakshmi told People in 2016. “Imagine a young woman in her twenties, who loves books and who had published her little cookbook and in comes this guy. I mean, he was the best thing that ever happened to me by a mile. The fact that somebody of that stature and caliber was even interested remotely enough in me to want to take me to lunch was kind of unbelievable.”
According to her 2016 memoir, Love, Loss And What We Ate, Rushdie assured Lakshmi that his marriage was already over when they met, and filed for divorce. In 2000, they moved in together and in 2004, they wed in New York among 275 very fancy guests.
How long was Padma Lakshmi married to Salman Rushdie? They tied the knot in 2004 and split in 2007, making for a three-year marriage. As the story goes, Lakshmi had asked for a divorce in private, but Rushdie responded via a public statement issued by his literary agent. “Salman Rushdie has agreed to divorce his wife, Padma Lakshmi, because of her desire to end their marriage,” the statement read.
In her memoir Love, Loss And What We Ate and the press surrounding it, Lakshmi opened up about how her undiagnosed endometriosis was a major reason for the collapse of her marriage: As her condition grew worse she was often in too much pain to have sex, leading to many fights over their lack of intimacy.
“I think that Salman took it personally and I think that he felt rejected,” she said. "I can understand that.” At one point, she claimed, Rushdie called her a “bad investment.”
Despite any hurtful exchanges, the couple remained friends over the years, and Lakshmi gave him a heads up about her memoir before it came out.
“I told him, ‘I just want you to know that I talk about the demise of our marriage and I talk about it because I really wanted to talk about endometriosis and also that you were a huge part of my life,’" she told People. "And he said, ‘You have the right to tell your side of the story as you see it.’”
Also, she rightly pointed out, “He’s the most famous proponent of free speech.”
Who is Padma Lakshmi’s baby daddy?Lakshmi has one daughter with Adam Dell, a venture capitalist and tech entrepreneur known for launching financial platforms like Clarity Money and Domain Money. He also comes from a well-known business family: His brother is Michael Dell, the founder of Dell Technologies.
What happened with Padma Lakshmi and Adam Dell?Lakshmi began intermittently dating Dell in 2009, about two years after her split from novelist Salman Rushdie and while also in an on-off relationship with billionaire investor Teddy Forstmann, whom she dated from 2007 until his death from brain cancer in 2011. In October 2009, she revealed she was pregnant without publicly naming the father, instantly kicking off a tabloid frenzy. “It was just about as horrible as is possible to be,” Lakshmi told the New Yorker. “I mean, talk about slut shaming.”
Because Lakshmi had reunited with Forstmann, and because he was by her side when she gave birth to her daughter, Krishna, some assumed he was the baby’s dad—and, by all accounts, he wanted to be. (He even left the girl a trust when he died.) But there was always uncertainty around the situation.
"It probably wasn't the best choice, but it was the choice that I made at the time,” Lakshmi said of being with two men at once. “I didn't want to be in a serious relationship. I was still really hurting from my divorce. "
In 2011, Dell filed for custody and asked that his name be added to Krishna’s birth certificate, making it public knowledge that he was, in fact, Krishna’s biological dad.
Despite going through a bitter custody battle, which settled out of court in 2012, Lakshmi and Dell rekindled their romantic relationship in 2017. ”They both love that child so much, they’re putting the past behind them,” a source told Page Six at the time. “She just is being very cautious and private to protect Krishna, regardless of what happens. She’s forgiven the past and is giving this a try.”
On an episode of Hollywood Medium with Tyler Henry in 2018, Lakshmi asked Henry if she had Forstmann's “blessing” to be in a relationship with Dell, given that the two men were on bad terms before Forstmann's death.
“He does not want you to be alone,” Henry responded. “He doesn’t want you to have to parent alone. And he’s acknowledging this feeling that he will always be connected to you, but you should absolutely feel like you have permission to love who you want to love.”
She and Dell split amicably in 2021.

How old was Padma Lakshmi when she had her baby? The celebrity gourmand was 39 years old when she gave birth to Krishna.
How old is Padma Lakshmi’s daughter, Krishna?Born Feb. 20, 2010, Krishna turned 16 this year. And unlike some teens, she still seems to enjoy her mom’s company. The two make frequent (and funny) appearances together on Lakshmi’s Instagram, and for Krishna’s recent milestone birthday, they took a mother-daughter trip to Miami.
View this post on Instagram“Sometimes we have to not hang out so you can make your bedtime in school,” Lakshmi said in conversation with Krishna for The Cut, underlining their bond. “You make it anyway, but we never want to go to sleep, and we never want to get up in the morning.”
View this post on Instagram Who else has Padma Lakshmi dated?Lakshmi briefly dated actor Richard Gere in 2020, poet Terrance Hayes in 2021 and black-ish creator Kenya Barris in 2023, although she kept the details of these relationships to herself.
Is Padma Lakshmi currently in a relationship?Unclear. If the Padma’s All American author is seeing someone, she hasn’t shared that publicly. Some fans have speculated that she’s in a relationship with fellow chef Melissa King, who won Top Chef: All-Stars L.A. in 2020, but she hasn’t confirmed as much.
"Melissa is somebody whose cooking I always loved. She's fun and we enjoy each other's company," Lakshmi told People in October 2025. "She tends to be my plus one sometimes so people will see us on the red carpet together.”
Later that month, she and King stunned fans by going as Gomez and Morticia Addams for Halloween. The costumes were, well, chef’s kiss!
View this post on InstagramCaitríona Balfe Reveals Her Dream Ending for Claire in 'Outlander’s Final Season (Exclusive)
Outlander fans across the globe can't wait to see Claire and Jamie Fraser's return in the show's eighth and final season, premiering Friday, March 6 on STARZ. Adding another layer of suspense to Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan's last performances in their beloved roles is the fact that author Diana Gabaldon hasn't completed the final book that the series is based on yet—meaning the hit series will be charting its own course to the finish line.
So, where does that leave Claire, our resilient, time-traveling healer? In an exclusive interview with Parade, Balfe shares her take on where she'd like to see her character's story end and reflects on Claire's incredible journey.
Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan in Season 8 of 'Outlander.'Courtesy: STARZ
This has been such a long journey for you and for Claire! How do you think she’s changed over the course of the series?
She was this feisty young woman who I think was very hot-headed and maybe acted before she thought sometimes—but I don't know that her core has changed that much. I think obviously with age, she has softened and become wiser. She has sort of been brought to her knees, but put herself back together in a healthier way over the seasons. At her core, Claire has always been a passionate fighter for justice, such a lover—and a fierce, loyal woman. I think she still is that at the end, too.
In the Season 7 finale, we saw Claire visited by Master Raymond, who apologizes for something. When will we find out what he means?
I can't tell you! I think we sort of figure it out—more or less.

Claire jumps on the idea that Faith lived because Fanny is singing a very modern song. What do you think is going through Claire's mind to make her so sure that Fanny is her daughter?
Well, I think sometimes a mother knows. Yes, there's a mystery there and more will be revealed, but it's such a modern song. How else would this child know that song if it hadn't somehow been passed down?
We also have a very jealous Jamie this season. He doesn't seem to be able to get past Lord John, even though you explained the circumstances. Do you think Jamie is ever going to get over it?
I have sympathy for Jamie in this. I think Claire is maybe a little impatient with him, but it's understandable. It's actually quite funny how grumpy Jamie is about the whole thing. I do think eventually he will get over it, but everyone takes time to get over a hurt and a betrayal. For Jamie, even though it was unintended by Claire and Lord John, it’s still a hurt and a betrayal for him.
Courtesy: STARZ
That said, the passion between Jamie and Claire is still so present. How has the passion they had in the beginning maybe mellowed into something more?
It's only natural. In any relationship, there is a different type of excitement in the first throes of love than there is years later. It doesn't mean the love is any less—in fact, generally, it means the love has deepened. They are an older married couple who have been through years and years together. They still make love all the time, and they are still madly, deeply passionate about each other. It's not new love—it's different—and it should be different. I think that's a more honest portrayal.
The other big issue this season is Frank's book that is brought back from the future. Do you think Claire actually believes Frank was lying to keep her in the future with him?
It's so confusing for her and for Jamie. She had such a strong contract with Frank that when she came back, she would put Jamie aside, stop talking about him and they would raise Brianna together. It caused her so much pain to have to put Jamie away—even though he never left her heart. To find out that Frank was doing exactly what he had asked her not to do is really difficult. Why would he do that? Did he want to punish her? Keep her away from him? It doesn't really make sense to her, so she's trying to work it out and figure out what his point was the whole time.
Diana hasn’t finished writing the end of the story, but the series is coming to an end. What would you like to see happen for Claire at the end?
I mean, I would like her to end up on a beach in Hawaii, sipping a cocktail. But, you know, I didn't get my request! I think for me, it's important that they're together—that they are each other's home. If they can stay together, then that's fitting for them.
Do you think fans will be happy with the ending?
I don't know the ending! I think Matt [Roberts, showrunner] was very clever in making it so that we couldn't spoil it. I know he filmed various things and there were different versions of scripts going around. I haven't seen it, so I'm as curious as everyone else!

There are many layers to Claire—she’s a medical professional, a mother, a wife and now a matriarch. Are any of those roles more prominent in Season 8?
I think her role as a wife and mother are probably the prominent features of this season. She still does medical stuff, but I would say it's the other two.
You also directed an episode. How has that affected you as an actress?
It was amazing. Some of the best times that I've had on the show was getting to do that. It definitely affects how you approach your acting. Until you have understood all of the prep that goes into things and the reasons why certain decisions are made, you don't fully get it. It's made me much more flexible as an actor. I understand the work that goes into it, and I understand what everyone brings to the table. I would love to do more.
Courtesy: STARZ
You've been playing a character over a 30-year lifespan. Is that difficult?
It's brilliant! Because when you're having a really rough day—like if you haven't slept because your child kept you up all night—you're like, "Well, I can just bring these wrinkles into the character." But really, it's been amazing to have played a character over a 30-year lifespan—it's not very often that you get to do that. We were on the show for over a decade, and I know how much I've changed in those ten years. Think about Claire—it's three times that amount. That was part of the privilege of doing this show.

The new podcast revisits the case of Melody Farris, the Georgia woman convicted of murdering her husband, prominent real estate attorney Gary Farris, on their sprawling 10-acre Cherokee County property.
A Burn Pile, a Bullet and a Family at WarWhen Gary Farris’ charred remains were discovered in a burn pile on July 5, 2018, investigators quickly determined this was no accident. A bullet was lodged in one of his ribs. What followed was a years-long investigation into a family riddled with infighting, money disputes and secrets.
At the center of it all was what some described as the “Farris Wheel” — a volatile family dynamic fueled by inheritance concerns and long-simmering resentment among siblings.
Prosecutors ultimately argued that Melody may have shot her husband during an argument, then moved his body to the burn pile in an attempt to conceal the crime. They pointed to blood evidence in the home, cell phone data tracking movements on the property and her affair with farm equipment salesman Rusty Barton as motive.
In 2024, after a lengthy trial, Melody Farris was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder and making false statements. She was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 30 years.

The Sentencing BombshellBut the case took an even more dramatic turn at sentencing.
Instead of expressing remorse, Melody accused her own son, Scott, of being the real killer—a claim he has repeatedly denied.
The accusation stunned the courtroom and further fractured an already divided family. Three of the Farris children publicly supported the guilty verdict, while the youngest daughter maintained her belief in her mother’s innocence.
What the Podcast AddsIn Blood Is Thicker: The Farris Wheel, Van Sant dives deeper into the tangled saga, featuring a previously unheard interview with Melody, as well as interviews with her son Scott and the lead detective on the case.
The original 48 Hours episode, titled “The Farris Wheel,” aired in May 2025 and has amassed more than 3.5 million views on YouTube. The podcast expands on that reporting, exploring unanswered questions, shifting timelines and the psychological layers behind the family’s unraveling.
The six-episode series launches March 11 on Apple and anywhere you get your podcasts (and Ad free + early for 48 Hours+ subscribers on Apple).
