For the week of July 19, 2026, Yarros’ highly anticipated companion collection, slated for a Sept. 29 release date, bumped Allen Levi’s Theo of Golden from the pinnacle spot.

A collection of short stories, Threshing Day will feature 13 tales told from the perspectives of beloved characters and their dragons at Basgiath War College. Yarros announced the new project on Instagram on July 15.

"Welcome to Conscription Day, Cadets!" she wrote. "I’m thrilled to share the title and cover of my next book (not book four!) in the Empyrean series: Threshing Day! … If you’re looking for copies outside the U.S., keep an eye on my foreign publishers’ social media for updates about their release dates."

She added, "I hope this gives you a fun trip back to Basgiath while I’m writing book four! So grab your leathers… The dragons are waiting! On sale September 29, 2026."

According to Rolling Stone, the book will also feature 16 original full-color illustrations by Joe Requeza.

“The deluxe first edition is exclusive to the U.S. and Canada and became a No. 1 bestseller before its title and cover were even revealed,” the outlet wrote.

Renowned for her intricate world-building, Yarros has created a mystical realm in which a 20-year-old woman named Violet Sorrengail is thrust into a brutal war college. There are dueling kingdoms, dragon riders, and venin villains. And, of course, romance.

“One of the things I love to play with is that absolute power corrupts absolutely, and that when you want magic, and you can’t have it because a dragon or a griffin hasn’t chosen you, what will you pay for it?” she told Variety about her series.

Threshing Day, published courtesy of Red Tower Books, is the latest installment of the bestselling Empyrean franchise. Dubbed “Book 3.5,” it comes after the first three romantasy stories—Fourth Wing, Iron Flame, and Onyx Storm—but rather than continue the series through Violet's point of view, Threshing Day dives into the lives of Yarros’ fan-favorite characters.

“Thirteen unforgettable stories. One Legendary Day. The bond that changes everything,” the synopsis reads on the author’s official website.

As for the final two books in the pentalogy, those are on the way. Though the series was initially structured for three books, Yarros reportedly needed five to do her full story justice.

Hollywood Vampires continue to build momentum following their three-year touring hiatus. Ahead of their upcoming tour, the rock supergroup formed by Alice Cooper, Joe Perry, Tommy Henriksen and Johnny Depp has announced a special release featuring a 1980 classic.

In celebration of one of the band’s most memorable performances, the quartet has announced a special live release featuring their rendition of Motörhead’s “Ace of Spades,” recorded during the band's 2018 performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival.

As part of the upcoming live album Live at Montreux Jazz Festival, Hollywood Vampires’ second single showcases the band’s tribute to Lemmy Kilmister, the frontman, bassist and founder of the beloved rock band.

Shared through the band’s official YouTube channel, the video not only showcases the supergroup’s raw, high-energy performance but also the on-stage chemistry between the quartet as they deliver a standout live show.

Furthermore, the band shared a special message to fans, noting what prompted them to include “Ace of Spades” on the live release.

According to Hollywood Vampires, it was their way of honoring the rock legends who inspired them to make music.

“‘Ace of Spades’ reflects the band’s longstanding mission of celebrating the artists who shaped rock music. Few songs embody the rebellious spirit of rock ‘n’ roll quite like Motörhead’s signature anthem, making it a fitting addition to a set that bridges the Vampires’ own material with tributes to their musical heroes. Lemmy was one of a kind. ‘Ace of Spades’ remains one of the defining songs in rock history, and this performance honors his legacy,” the caption reads.

Earlier this month, the supergroup previewed the upcoming release by sharing a live performance video of “Raise the Dead,” the album’s first single.

The highly anticipated live album will be released digitally on Aug. 14.

As for the physical album, it will arrive on the same date in the U.K. and Europe, while fans in the U.S. can purchase it beginning Oct. 16.

Besides the release of Live at Montreux Jazz Festival, Hollywood Vampires are also gearing up for their much-anticipated tour across the U.K. and Europe.

Kicking off the 19-date run, the supergroup will begin the trek on Aug. 12 in London before performing across the U.K. and then traveling to Germany, the Netherlands, Italy and more before wrapping up in Poland on Sept. 10.

Fifty-seven years ago, iconic rock band Creedence Clearwater Revival released "Fortunate Son"—a track that became a lasting classic despite taking only 20 minutes to write.

"Fortunate Son" was released in September 1969 as a double A-side single with "Down on the Corner" from the band's fourth studio album, Willy and the Poor Boys. The track was an immediate success, climbing the Billboard Hot 100 where it peaked at No. 14 in November. Additionally, it achieved major success on the UK Singles Chart, reaching No. 3.

Aside from chart triumph, the song experienced major commercial success. Since its release, "Fortunate Son" has been certified 8× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for selling over 8 million copies in the U.S. alone. In total, the track is estimated to have moved over 15 million units worldwide.

Writing "Fortunate Son"

Although it is frequently considered a masterclass in rock songwriting, "Fortunate Son" took frontman John Fogerty only about 20 minutes to pen. The song was inspired by the rampant injustice surrounding the Vietnam draft at the time.

"Like many, many young men my age, I was drafted in 1966," Fogerty said in a January 2026 interview with People magazine. Eventually, I ended up in an Army Reserve unit, and that was great, but at the same time, you're seeing these stories on television where some Senator managed to get his son out of the draft or some rich tycoon millionaire was able to have your son avoid military service, and that just didn't seem fair."

The pent-up unrest stirred something within the rocker, prompting him to breeze through the lyrics of the beloved track—marking the fastest he had ever penned a song.

"And man, all those thoughts just came out in a raging torrent," he reflected. "Twenty minutes later, after walking into the room with nothing, I walked out of that room with a completed song called 'Fortunate Son.' That was by far the quickest I've ever written a song."

Nearly six decades after its initial release, "Fortunate Son" continues to resonate with audiences. It has found a connection with modern demographics in the digital era through social media and streaming platforms. Today, the track has accumulated over 1.9 billion listens on Spotify alone, attesting to its unique ability to bridge the gap between classic rock fans and younger generations.

On July 21, 1989, Milli Vanilli performed at Lake Compounce as part of MTV’s Club MTV Tour. Performing in front of a large crowd, the duo launched into their hit song "Girl You Know It’s True," seemingly singing live. When Roberta Flack released "Killing Me Softly With His Song" in 1973, she transformed an already beautiful composition into one of the most iconic ballads in music history.

The heartfelt recording spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it one of the biggest hit of Flack's career. More than 50 years later, the song continues to resonate with listeners as one of pop music's most enduring breakup anthems.

The story behind the song is almost as memorable as the recording itself.

Songwriters Charles Fox and Norman Gimbel were inspired by singer-songwriter Lori Lieberman, who had been deeply moved after seeing Don McLean perform live. Lieberman described feeling as though McLean's songs were telling her own story, an emotional reaction that ultimately inspired the lyrics.

"When he left the stage and the audience filtered out, I stayed in my chair, and wrote a poem about my experience on a napkin," Lieberman later recalled.

Although Lieberman recorded the song first in 1972, it wasn't until Flack discovered it that it reached its full potential.

Flack first heard "Killing Me Softly With His Song" while flying on an airplane.

"I was on a plane and read through a list of music channel song listings," Flack said in a 2020 interview. "The title of the song ['Killing Me Softly with His Song'] jumped out at me. I took out a notepad and listened to that song 10 times to get the melody and lyrics. When I landed, I called Quincy Jones, who helped me get the music charts."

She later reworked the arrangement with producer Joel Dorn, slowing the tempo and allowing the emotion in the lyrics to take center stage.

The result was extraordinary.

Released in January 1973, the single quickly climbed the charts before spending five weeks at No. 1, becoming one of the year's biggest hits. It also earned Flack the Grammy Award for Record of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, helping cement her reputation as one of the era's finest interpreters of song.

Its emotional honesty is a major reason the ballad has endured.

While the lyrics never explicitly mention a breakup, their themes of vulnerability, heartbreak, and feeling completely understood by another person’s words have made the song a companion for generations navigating the end of relationships. Flack's understated vocal performance only deepens that emotional connection, allowing listeners to find their own experiences within the lyrics.

The song's legacy has continued to grow over the decades, inspiring countless cover versions, most famously the Fugees' Grammy-winning reinterpretation in 1996, which introduced "Killing Me Softly With His Song" to an entirely new generation.

"Lauryn Hill recorded 'Killing Me Softly' [with the Fugees] and did an excellent job," Flack told The Guardian. "She's a genius musician and so is Wyclef Jean who co-produced it. I'm not going to hold on to that song with my heart and bleed to death while someone else covers it; I'm a music lover who has enough experience and common sense to know that it's good they recorded it and had a hit. I had a hit with it, too, but I wasn't the first person who recorded it."

More than five decades after topping the charts, Roberta Flack's recording remains the definitive version of the timeless classic. What became a five-week No. 1 hit in 1973 has endured as one of the greatest breakup ballads ever recorded, proving that the most powerful songs don't just tell a story, they make listeners feel as though they're living it themselves.

After a difficult weekend that left many fans frustrated, Noah Kahan seems to have won over some fans with his newest post.

On Wednesday, July 22, the "Stick Season" singer shared a playful post on X, clearing up some of the lyrics that fans have hilariously misheard over the years.

Another revealed, “now I’ll only be singing the wrong versions tysm,” while a fourth said, “I love that this is a thing.”

The lighthearted post comes just days after Kahan's canceled July 18 concert at New York's Citi Field disappointed thousands of fans. Just hours before he was scheduled to take the stage, his team announced the show had been called off "due to inclement weather." Rather than announcing a makeup date, organizers confirmed that ticket holders would receive refunds through their original point of purchase instead. 

Kahan also addressed the cancellation on his Instagram Story, telling fans, "Exhausted every option to make this happen… love you guys." The following day he briefly spoke about the cancellation to the crowd, saying "I'm so sorry to anybody who came out yesterday and didn't get to see the show," he said. "You deserve better than that."

Judging by the replies on his latest post, it appears he may have been forgiven.

Ella Langley’s hit song “Choosin’ Texas” has returned to the top of the US Apple Music all-genre songs chart, passing Drake’s “Janice STFU” to reclaim the No. 1 spot as the country star continues a major run of success in 2026.

The move gives Langley another major chart win for a song that has remained a strong performer months after its October 2025 release. “Choosin’ Texas” is currently No. 1 on Apple Music’s US all-genre chart, while Drake’s “Janice STFU” sits at No. 2.

The latest change also adds another chapter to the song’s long chart battle with some of the biggest releases in pop and rap. Drake’s track had previously taken the top position on Apple Music, but Langley’s country-pop hit has now moved back ahead.

The song’s Apple Music success comes after a remarkable run across the Billboard charts.

“Choosin’ Texas” has spent weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, including a 14th week at No. 1. That run placed Langley alongside major female artists in Hot 100 history.

With 14 weeks at No. 1, “Choosin’ Texas” tied Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” and Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” for the most weeks at No. 1 among non-holiday songs billed only to women with no male-billed acts.

The song has also made a strong mark on the digital sales chart. “Choosin’ Texas” has spent 39 weeks on the Billboard Digital Song Sales chart and recently collected its 13th week at No. 1 there.

Inside the Case Against Lindsay Clancy

Clancy is accused of using exercise bands to kill her three children in the basement of the family's Duxbury home, as per CNN. She's also said to have attempted to take her own life that same day, slicing her wrists and throat before jumping from the home's second-story window, an attempt that left her paraplegic.

ABC News reported on Monday, July 20, that her attorney, Kevin Reddington, has said he'll argue Clancy should be found not guilty by reason of insanity, describing a voice in her head he attributes to severe postpartum psychosis, one he says was worsened by how her doctors managed her care. 

Clancy's husband, Patrick, is expected to testify for the defense, according to the Associated Press. It remains unclear whether Clancy herself will take the stand.

Zooey Deschanel is sharing some behind-the-scenes facts about her New Girl character, Jessica "Jess" Day's iconic first kiss with Nick Miller (Jake Johnson).

During a July 2026 interview on the Zach Sang Show, Deschanel, who starred on New Girl throughout its seven-season run until its 2018 finale, was asked if she agreed with some fans who believe Nick and Jess's "first kiss scene [is] the greatest kiss scene in TV history."

"I can't say. I haven't seen like every episode of television. It was a pretty good one though," said Deschanel.

Deschanel then shared that the Season 2, Episode 15 ("Cooler") scene was expertly choreographed.

"We were like, 'Let's block it.' I mean it's, again, it's like music, it's dynamics," said the actress during the interview.

She then explained that she, Johnson, the writers, and directors wanted there to be tension in the scene. They decided that the best course of action was to have Jess start walking back to her bedroom before Nick pulled her in.

"It was almost like scientific because the writers and then Jake and me and we're like trying to figure out like the best way was to have her start to walk away and him grab her. There's many ways kisses happen on screen and you know, creating a dynamic moment is a little bit more challenging because kissing is not that exciting, right? Even if you've been like waiting for this kiss forever," explained the She & Him singer.

During the interview, Deschanel shared that the scene "was a really big moment" on set. According to Deschanel, "ton of writers," the show's creator Liz Meriwether, and the comedy's co-showrunners Brett Baer and Dave Finkel, were watching her and Johnson film the romantic moment.

"I think we had like three-quarters of the writing staff on set for that because it was such an important moment," recalled Deschanel.

In a 2014 panel at the Paley Center for Media, Deschanel and Johnson discussed filming the season 2 kissing scene. According to Deschanel, the episode's original script didn't end with Jess and Nick's kiss. She also noted that most of "Cooler" involves Nick refusing to give Jess a kiss during the group's drinking game, True American.

"It was interesting because we did the table read and the whole episode, the kiss wasn't in it. And the whole episode was like, Jess is so annoying. So, I was like, 'Great, I feel very unattractive,'" quipped Deschanel during the 2014 panel. "And then they throw this little nugget in, which was pitched to us like on a Tuesday, I think, we shot on a Friday night or something. And I thought it was actually so great in an episode about how annoying Jess is. It really was surprising."

Johnson also said he was pleased that Nick got to have a successful kiss with Jess.

"It was something that I wanted for Nick. And so, I was really glad that Nick didn't screw that up because he could have very easily. He did for the first half of that episode," said Johnson.

"So, I never went to bed last night, because yesterday afternoon I wasn't really paying attention and accidentally took double my dose of ADHD medication. It's extended-release," she shared via Instagram on Wednesday, July 22. "I already take a relatively very high dose, and it's necessary, but it's not a dose you want to take two of in the middle of the day."

She went on to share that her heart rate began to spike quickly while she was "sitting completely still." The terrifying ordeal and her anxiety led Myers to call 911.

"This was not a normal panic attack. I was trying to tough it out, because I did not want to be the person that calls 911 for a panic attack. But I also don't want to be the person that dies because they don't call 911," she continued. "I had made the decision and asked my husband to call 911 for me."

Myers explained that she recently took a class through the American Heart Association and, because her son is a "heart kid," she had an at-home EKG machine on hand. By the time first responders arrived with a defibrillator, it was not needed.

"I'm so glad I called. There is no world where I would have been able to convince myself that nothing terrible was about to happen," she added. "I knew deep in my soul, this felt really really different. There is nothing in my body that recognized the severity and the depth of that feeling. Nothing but a medical professional was going to reassure me."

"TLDR: I am safe! Just have a migraine, no sleep, and a gnarly anxiety hangover, and I’m sooooo glad I asked Jonas to call for help," she captioned her post.

The TikTok star has been open about her struggles with anxiety and mental health in the past, including during an "OCD trigged panic attack" in September 2024.

Pushed to showcase creativity and adaptability, the cooks worked with unfamiliar ingredients and techniques to create a successful fusion dish in the "Wheel of Fusion" episode. The person who created the best dish won the Immunity Pin for next week’s challenge.

For the Wheel of Fusion challenge, the home chefs were taken out of their comfort zone as they had to fuse whatever cuisine the wheel landed on with their own culture.

Team Europe ended up with Japanese, Asia-Pacific landed on French cuisine, the Americas wound up with Nigerian, and Africa fused with Greek after the spin.

But as the winner of last week’s Immunity Pin, Team Europe’s Julia was given the advantage of changing any team’s fusion. She chose to move to Team Africa to fuse with Australia.

Forty-nine years ago, iconic English rock band The Jam released "In The City"—a song that has persevered as a lasting classic and was famously written by a teenager.

Released on April 29, 1977 as the title track and lead single for their debut studio album, "In The City" was a notable success. Although the song never quite entered the US Billboard Hot 100, it became a Top 40 hit on the UK Singles Chart—marking a distinct mainstream breakthrough moment in the beginning of their career.

Since its release, the song, alongside its parent album, has been showered in acclaim and compared to other legendary rock acts by industry professionals. Host Jimmy Kimmel asked which cereal is known for its colorful "marbits," or marshmallow bits, with the choices being Raisin Bran, Cap'n Crunch, Cookie Crisp, and Lucky Charms. Cazzie immediately identified Lucky Charms as the correct answer, but her father looked completely confused.

When she explained that the cereal contains marshmallows, Larry, 79, responded, "It does?" Cazzie couldn't believe it, joking, "Yeah, do you not know about…do you not know about cereals?"

Larry admitted he'd always assumed Lucky Charms were simply "these colored fruit things," prompting his daughter to explain that they were actually marshmallows. Even then, he remained skeptical, asking, "Are you positive?"

The exchange only got funnier when Larry confessed he'd never eaten Lucky Charms, Cookie Crisp or Cap'n Crunch. Cazzie laughed that they almost would have needed to use a lifeline for a cereal question, while Kimmel joked Larry's lack of sugary cereal consumption "explains a lot."

Larry, however, stood by one breakfast staple: "I've had Raisin Bran.”

Tiger Woodsisn’t the only celebrity golfer in the family. The 50-year-old’s son, 17-year-old Charlie Woods, is a budding sports star. But while the younger Woods stood a chance of making it into the match-play portion of the U.S. Junior Amateur for the first time, it seems that a fan’s noisy camera dashed the teen’s hopes. 

What happened to Charlie Woods at the U.S. Junior Amateur?

On Tuesday, Charlie qualified as one of the top 64 players who would return to Saucon Valley’s Grace Course in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, for a 14-for-2 playoff. On Wednesday morning, everything appeared to be on track for Tiger’s son. That is, until his third shot on the par 5 hole. So what exactly dashed the boy’s hopes? It’s easy to see, or rather hear, what happened next. The sound of a noisy phone camera throws Charlie off in mid-backswing, causing him to miss the shot. 

After the more-than-obvious camera click, the teen throws his club onto the ground and says, “Really dude? I mean, come on.” The teen ended up making a bogey, rather than a birdie, ending his chance to advance.

After the video popped up on Instagram, fans flocked to the post, giving their unsolicited opinions on the camera click and Charlie’s reaction. 

One commenter asked, “Who is taking pictures without a phone on silent…At a golf tournament?”, as others added, “Loudest camera click sound in history,” and “The shutter happened at the beginning of the downswing. No chance to stop.”

While Charlie had plenty of supporters who bashed the noisy photographer, some critics questioned the 17-year-old’s concentration: “Earl used to prep Tiger for this kinda stuff by throwing tees, and other things while he was swinging to help him with distractions and why he was able to stop mid downswing so many times. Tiger gotta do that with Charlie”, “Distractions happen. No free replay,” and “Dad wouldn’t have been distracted.” 

Fans were also divided in the comments section of another Instagram post featuring the same video. Some wrote, “Quiet is the standard. So you prepare and play with that expectation, so when a foreign noise comes in, it just disrupts,” and, “How do people not understand how wildly distracting this is?”

Others responded with a less positive take: “Should have done the Tiger pause” and, “Can’t handle a little bit of noise.”

Yes, the talented young golfer has a bright future ahead of him. Even though he just completed his junior year of high school, he has already verbally committed to play college golf at Florida State University in 2027.
