'Today' Alum Kathie Lee Gifford Sends Blunt Message About 'The View' Hosts

Wed, 03/11/2026 - 11:15am

Todayalum Kathie Lee Gifford recently sent a blunt message about The View hosts.

On the March 9 episode of the Tomi Lahren Is Fearless podcast, Hoda Kotb's former co-host discussed how talk shows and people in general have changed over the years with host Tomi Lahren.

šŸŽ¬Ā SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inboxĀ šŸŽ¬

When Lahren asked Gifford if she thinks "things are more divided now," the latter replied, "There’s just more of us, and we’re meaner now. People at least would pretend to have some manners. Now, there's a viciousness."

Gifford, 72, continued, "I used to be able to go on The View, and talk to Joy [Behar],and Whoopi [Goldberg], and a lot of the other people there—Debbie Matenopoulos and I are still good pals—and never had a problem with anybody. Because they weren't trying to proselytize everything."

She added, "I share my faith, but I don't say, 'You're going to go to hell if you don't...' I don't do that. I want people to have a little bit more heaven in their life than hell."

When Lahren asked if she thought it would be the same now if Gifford were to go on the view, the former Live With Regis and Kathie Lee host gave an honest answer.

"That part has changed. It's sad. Because, I mean, everybody seems like they're just miserable people now," Gifford said, claiming that she, by contrast, is "joy personified."

In 2019, Gifford left Today after 11 years. She has kept busy with writing books, recording music, producing a documentary about her life, and spending time with family.

Meanwhile, Jenna Bush Hager took over for Gifford on Today, and then Sheinelle Jones took over for Kotb. The show's fourth hour is now titled Today With Jenna & Sheinelle.

Guests Reportedly Steal This Item From Hotel Rooms Even More Than the Fluffy Robes

Wed, 03/11/2026 - 11:15am

There is something about a hotel room that invites a small moment of fantasy. The crisp sheets feel softer than the ones at home. The towels are impossibly fluffy. Even the hangers somehow seem nicer than the ones in your own closet.

But when the suitcase closes and checkout time arrives, some travelers bring more than souvenirs and memories with them. A recent hospitality survey of more than 1,200 hotel staff and owners revealed that certain items vanish from guest rooms with surprising frequency.

While one would think those fancy, fluffy robes top the list, it is actually a much more mundane item. Almost 88 percent of staff and housekeeping say it is towels that go missing.

And while a towel isn't the most luxurious of items to pilfer and the theft may feel harmless in the moment, hotels do suffer the consequences from those innocuous acts. And there could be repercussions.

Here are some of the most common items that go missing from hotel rooms and how stealing impacts the industry overall.

The Surprisingly Common Item Guests Take From Hotel Rooms

For hotel room thieves it isn't about walking away with something super luxe or valuable, it is about what is most "practical." Though robes were the second most stolen (65.70 percent reported) the study found that hangers rank among the most commonly stolen items, with more than half of surveyed hotel employees reporting they regularly disappear (55.29 percent).

At first glance, hangers seem like an odd target. They are hardly luxurious, and they certainly are not glamorous. But after spending years traveling for work and leisure, I can see the strange logic behind it. Hotel hangers often have that satisfying weight and clean wooden finish that somehow makes your clothes look more organized, and they certainly beat the plastic ones hanging in your own closet.

Hangers are lightweight, easy to slip between folded clothing, and small enough that guests might convince themselves they will not be missed. In fact, around 55 percent of hotel workers report hangers disappearing from rooms, placing them just behind towels and bathrobes in the unofficial ranking of hotel ā€œsouvenirsā€ gone missing. Here's what else dominates the theft list:

  • Toiletries (soap, tissues, etc):Ā 53.03%
  • Blankets:Ā 36.16%
  • Pillows:Ā 31.64%
  • Hair dryers:Ā 26.72%
  • Pens:Ā 21.55%
  • Dishes:Ā 13.64%
  • Remote controls:Ā 11.54%

Still, while it may seem harmless, hotels notice more than travelers think.

The Hidden Cost of ā€œSouvenir Shoppingā€ From Your Hotel Room

Across the United States, hotel theft costs the hospitality industry an estimated $100 million every year, according to industry surveys. Towels are the biggest financial hit for hotels because they are taken so frequently. Nearly 9 out of 10 hotel employees say towels disappear regularly, and replacing them adds up quickly across hundreds of rooms.

Bathrobes can be even more expensive. Many hotels invest in high quality robes that cost at least $50 each, sometimes much more at luxury properties. Guests occasionally assume these are complimentary, but hospitality experts emphasize they almost never are.

The truth is that the hotel room contains dozens of small items designed to make your stay comfortable. When even a few disappear from every floor each week, the replacement costs quickly multiply.

Can Hotels Charge You for Taking Items?

Most hotels keep track of room inventory, particularly for higher value items like robes, pillows, or electronics. If something is missing during housekeeping checks, many properties will simply charge the credit card used during check in.

In some cases, hotels may contact guests after checkout to ask about a missing item. If the item is not returned, the cost is often added to the bill. This is especially common for things like bathrobes, blankets, electronics like hair dryers or kettles, and decorative items or room accessories

Taking larger or permanent items can also be considered theft under local laws, which means hotels technically have the option to pursue legal action, though that is rare for smaller items. More commonly, the outcome is simply a charge on your card or a note on your guest profile.

What Travelers Are Actually Allowed to Take

The confusing part for many guests is that some hotel items really are meant to go home with you. If you have ever hesitated while packing a tiny bottle of shampoo into your toiletry bag, you are not alone. Even frequent travelers sometimes wonder where the line is between complimentary and off limits.

Generally speaking, travelers can take:

  • Mini toiletries like shampoo, soap, and lotion
  • Disposable slippers
  • Branded pens and notepads
  • Tea, coffee, and packaged snacks

These are considered single use items designed for guests. Hotels expect them to disappear during a stay. Everything else in the room is typically considered hotel property.

Why the Hotel Room Feels So Tempting

Part of the psychology of hotel theft is simple. When you are traveling, normal routines disappear. You are living in a temporary world where the towels are replaced daily and someone else makes the bed.

Ironically, many hotels will happily sell you the same items guests try to sneak into their luggage. From branded bathrobes to signature pillows, front desks and hotel websites often offer the exact products used in their rooms. You may still leave with a souvenir. Just one that does not come with a surprise charge later.

From Bruschetta to Peri-Peri Sauce, Here Are the 17 Most Popular Trader Joe's Condiments, Ranked Worst to Best

Wed, 03/11/2026 - 11:15am

Everything is better withĀ condiments, which is why condiment bars, drawers and full-on aisles exist. Sure, scrambled eggs are good, but they're better with hot sauce (or ketchup), and plain rice is fine and dandy, but a spoonful of chili crispĀ adds a much-needed kick. See where we're going with this? It's the condiment that makes the meal!

With more than 20 always-changing sauces and spreads on its shelves, Trader Joe's condiments are one of the reasons shoppers flock to the fan-favorite grocery store. And while we all have our personal favorites, theseĀ are 17 of the bestĀ Trader Joe's condimentsĀ ranked worst to best.

17 Popular Trader Joe's Condiments Ranked17. Trader Joe's Bruschetta Sauce

Trader Joe's

You don't have to be Italian to love bruschetta, but while Trader Joe's take on the classic antipasto topping is packed with garlic, olive oil andĀ spices, it's still not enough to take on the authentic stuff you'll find at a local Italian deli. If you don't have one of those spots nearby, then we'll allow the TJ's stand-in.

16. Trader Joe’s Korean Gochujang Sauce

Trader Joe's

This sauce, which is made in South Korea, starts with gochujang, the savory-sweet-spicy fermented Korean chili paste, then mixes in some canola oil, soy sauce, brown rice vinegar and toasted sesame oil. The drizzle-able condiment is great on any number of things: fried eggs, rice dishes, chicken wings, Korean rice cakes and bulgogi (TJ's sells beef and meatless versions).Ā

15. Trader Joe's Peri-Peri Sauce With Fermented Dried Chilies

Trader Joe's

The Mozambique Portuguese introduced spicy peri-peri sauce to South Africa, and the spicy sauce is very popular in both countries—and now around the world as well. Meat-eaters love using it as a marinade for chicken, meat and fish, while vegetarians swear by cooking rice and vegetables in Peri-Peri for a hint of spice and a dash of sour.

14. Trader Joe's Spicy Honey Sauce

Trader Joe's

If you like sweet with some heat, this is the sauce for you. Fans say the honey has just enough heat, which makes it great on a wide range of things. Try it with cornbread, drizzle it over cheese or pepperoni pizza, use it to add a little zip to cocktailsĀ (bourbon + honey is a delicious pairing) or put some in a pretty little bowl and add it to your next cheese board. This bottle's got range!Ā

13. Trader Joe's Carolina Gold Barbeque Sauce

Trader Joe's

Thanks to the not-so-subtle infusion of yellow mustard, Carolina Gold BBQ sauce is infinitely tangier than your standard BBQ sauce. It also contains hints of molasses, vinegar, tomato puree, Worcestershire and spices like cayenne pepper that give it a bit more heat. It's great on BBQ of all kinds, but we especially like it on wings and it's tasty on sandwiches, too.Ā

12. Italian Bomba Hot Pepper Sauce

Trader Joe's

Speaking from experience, you should put Italian Bomba Hot Pepper Sauce on everything (given you like hot pepper, of course). Because it's derived from red peppers, you'll find it a smidge smokier than a more sugary hot sauce, but it lends a healthy helping of fire to each spoonful. Feeling adventurous? Add a teaspoon to your favorite soup!

11. Trader Joe's Organic Kansas City Style BBQ Sauce

Trader Joe's

Compared to the aforementioned Carolina Gold, Organic Kansas City Style BBQ Sauce brings even more tang to your favorite barbecue dishes. It's full of onion powder, garlic powder and hickory smoke flavor that makes it a must-use on ribs, chicken, burgers and more.

10. Trader Joe's Zhoug Sauce

Trader Joe's

This spicy herb-based sauce originated in Yemen and is popular throughout the Middle East. Trader Joe's take on zhoug is cilantro-based and gets its fire from jalapeños and chile flakes. The flavor is rounded out with garlic, cardamom and cumin. Spoon this sauce on eggs, swirl it into yogurt for an almost-instant dip, stir some with mayo and slather all over chicken before roasting or toss a few spoonfuls with roasted potatoes hot out of the oven.

9. Trader Joe’s Traditional Tunisian Harissa

Trader Joe's

Harissa sauce has that hot chili pepper taste that's a signature of Tunisian cuisine. It's made by blending dried hot chilies, caraway seeds, smoked paprika, salt, garlic, lemon juice and vinegar, giving it a sweet-smoky-tangy flavor. It really is the hidden gem of Trader Joe's condiments and is divine on grilled chicken or drizzled into hummus.

8. Trader Joe's Thai Red Curry Sauce

Trader Joe's

Red curry sauce is simple enough to make, but keeping Trader Joe's Thai Red Curry Sauce in the fridge really comes in handy in a pinch. It's zesty and punchy, which makes it ideal for adding to chili, curry, tofu, meat, rice, poultry and stir-fried veggies.Ā

7. Trader Joe's Thai Yellow Curry Sauce

Trader Joe's

If you prefer a zestier curry sauce (and we do!), Thai Style Yellow Curry Sauce has a more ginger-forward flavor that's sure to get your attention. It's thick and creamy, but still hot enough to contend with Red Curry Sauce, ranked at No. 12. Our favorite way to eat it is with plain rice.

6. Trader Joe's Aioli Garlic Mustard Sauce

Trader Joe's

The Aioli Garlic Mustard Sauce will fare well with most mustard lovers, though purists might find it to be too similar to a salad dressing. Either way, the blend of garlic, oil and egg makes this mustard versatile enough to eat with everything from fries to grilled vegetables, or try it as a burger spread.

5. Trader Joe’s Eggplant Garlic Spread With Sweet Red Peppers

Trader Joe's

Second fiddle to Trader Joe's Red Pepper Spread with Eggplant and Garlic (below, at No. 2), this TJ's condiment is delicious, but it probably won't resonate with anyone who despises eggplant. While eggplant itself isn't all that flavorful, this spread relies on the garlic elements to do most of the work. What you get is garlicky, savory red pepper that's mild, but still a standout.

4. Trader Joe's Chimichurri Sauce

Trader Joe's

A South American condiment that soundsĀ spicier than it really is, Trader Joe's Chimichurri Sauce is the bee's knees. The sweetness of the herbs—parsley and cilantro—really comes through and the ratio of the garlic adds just enough sharpness. It's fragrant, too, and it goes well with everything from chips to sandwiches.

3. Trader Joe's Dill Pickle Mustard

Trader Joe's

Let's just put it this way: You're going to wish that you knew about this condiment sooner and if you can't find it in an actual TJ's, scoop up a bottle (or three) on Amazon. Simply put, mustard isn't for everyone, and while dill pickle isn't without its controversies either, the blend of acidic dill and tangy mustard seed seems like a winner on every burger and sandwich you put it on.

2. Trader Joe's Enchilada Sauce

Trader Joe's

While we're certain there are higher-quality enchilada sauces out there, Trader Joe's Enchilada Sauce is an easy, cheap go-to that should be in the fridge at all times. If you're used to the authentic stuff, then we totally get why you'd be skeptical of this, but this tangy sauce with medium spice might just surprise you.

1. Trader Joe's JalapeƱo Sauce

Trader Joe's

Everyone recognizes the little green bottle from Trader Joe's! TJ's JalapeƱo Sauce is a must-have on everything from quesadillas and tacos to chicken and rice. What TJ's shoppers love most about it is the subtle heat that builds. The jalapeƱo flavor is less spicy than other hot sauces that jump right to "burn."

Jensen Ackles Posts Video Announcing Final Day Of Filming New Show 'Vought Rising'

Wed, 03/11/2026 - 11:03am

Supernatural star Jensen Ackleshas taken to Instagram to announce the final day of filming for Vought Rising Season 1, a The Boys spinoff show featuring his character Soldier Boy.

Shared on his official Instagram account, the video shows Ackles waiting to get his Soldier Boy costume on, which he explains takes three to five people assisting him. Along with that information came his formal announcement that this is the final day of filming for the highly anticipated show.

The post also included the caption, "Finishing out with a bang! It’s been an absolute thrill ride. Thanks to the crew and cast and all those that gave so much time and energy to make this happen. You’re all a bunch of psychos…and I love you for it. @primevideo @sonypicturestv @theboystv @voughtrising."

View this post on Instagram

Currently, no official release date for Vought Rising has been announced, although it's possible that will come on the heels of The Boys Season 5's release. That season, which will be the show's last, debuts with a two-episode premiere on April 8. Episodes will be released on Prime Video weekly on Wednesdays, until the finale on May 20.

Plenty of attention and excitement have been stirred up ahead of that release, particularly because of the show's Supernatural connection. Not only is The Boys headed up by Supernatural creator Eric Kripke, but also, Season 5 is particularly positioned as a Supernatural reunion of sorts.

In addition to Ackles reprising his role as Soldier Boy in this final season, Supernatural co-stars Jared Padaleckiand Misha Collins, who played Sam Winchester and Castiel opposite Ackles' Dean Winchester in the 15-season-long show, will be joining the cast.

While it may not be Supernatural Season 16—something that fans have continued to beg for, even six years after the show concluded—it may be as close as fans ever get, so they are eagerly awaiting this brand-new on-screen dynamic between Ackles, Padalecki and Collins.

Rebecca Gayheart Dane Reveals the Mission She’s Taking On to Honor Eric Dane’s Legacy

Wed, 03/11/2026 - 11:00am

Rebecca Gayheart Dane is honoring the legacy of her late husband, actor Eric Dane, by continuing the advocacy work he supported during his battle with ALS. A recent press reveals Gayheart Dane will join the AI technology company ElevenLabs at the SXSW Festival in Austin this Friday to help spotlight a new initiative aimed at helping people who have permanently lost their voices.

Rebecca Gayheart Dane Continues Eric Dane’s Advocacy for Voice Restoration

Gayheart Dane’s effort is part of ElevenLabs’ ā€œ1 Million Voicesā€ initiative, a global program designed to provide free access to voice restoration technology for one million people living with permanent voice loss. The company announced the next phase of the program Wednesday and will debut a new docuseries titled 11 Voices on Friday at SXSW. The docuseries tells the stories of people who have regained the ability to communicate using AI-generated versions of their own voices.

Gayheart Dane’s involvement is deeply personal. Her late husband, actor Eric Dane, who lived with ALS, used the company’s voice technology to restore his speech and became an early supporter of the initiative. After watching the disease gradually affect his ability to speak, Gayheart Dane said the technology helped restore an important part of who he was.

ā€œOur voices are such an important part of who we are, and something most of us take for granted,ā€ Gayheart Dane said. ā€œAs Eric's speech became gradually more impaired, I watched how that loss dimmed so much of his joy and sense of self. When he received his voice, it made him emotional to have that part of himself back, and to know our daughters would always be able to hear his voice. It sounded just like him.ā€

The actress also revealed that continuing to support the program is a way to carry forward her husband’s mission of helping others facing similar diagnoses.

New Docuseres Highlights Life-Changing Voice Technology

The 11 Voices docuseries follows individuals in the United States and the United Kingdom who are living with conditions such as ALS, stroke-related injuries, and cerebral palsy. Using AI-generated voices created from past recordings, participants are able to communicate again in ways that feel personal and authentic.

Among the people featured in the series are a stroke survivor who returned to public speaking, a hospital chaplain with ALS who resumed counseling patients, and a brain injury survivor who has been able to socialize and create music again. Another participant, who has cerebral palsy and was once nonverbal, now uses the technology to pursue acting and modeling.

The project highlights how restoring a voice can help people reconnect with their families, careers, and communities. Participants can create digital versions of their voices using previous recordings and integrate them into assistive communication devices, allowing them to speak with a voice that closely resembles their own.

For Gayheart Dane, supporting the program is both a tribute and a continuation of her husband’s work. By raising awareness and helping others regain their voices, she hopes to carry forward Eric Dane’s vision of ensuring that people facing similar challenges still have the ability to communicate in their own voice.

Inside the Making of ā€˜Survivor’s’ Opening Credits With the Man Who Created Them (Exclusive)

Wed, 03/11/2026 - 11:00am

As every season of Survivor begins, the players — and fans — are thrown into a veritable sea of the unknown. In an instant, we're introduced to 16 to 20 new faces, people from all different backgrounds and walks of life, who will become the main characters in this monthslong bloodthirsty battle for a million dollars. It's a lot to keep track of.

Luckily, the iconic CBS reality show has had a feature from the beginning to help us learn the characters in our story: The opening credits. The minute-long sequence showcases visuals and names of each of the castaways. That way, whether they're strategic screenhogs or underedited "purple" players, everyone gets their time in the sun, a brief but poignant moment of recognition of their role in this life-changing adventure.

And, believe it or not, it all came from the mind of one man: Scott Duncan. Duncan serves as the Director of Photography for Survivor and, over the years, has been responsible for numerous iconic shots and still photos. In fact, many of the latter have been collated into the photo book Survivor: Forged By Fire, which was released in February 2026. While out on set in Fiji for Season 50, Parade got the chance to speak with Duncan about the origins of the opening credits, the process of how they come together, and how he responds to the fans using his work as inspiration for their own edits.

šŸ”„Don’t miss our weekly Survivor newsletter! Sign up to get Mike Bloom’s exclusive interviews with the players and the latest news about the show right to your inbox.šŸ”„

From humble beginnings

Duncan joined the show all the way back in its first blockbuster season. And, when talking with Parade out on set in Fiji, he revealed, like many things that would eventually become staples of the series, the opening credits started simply as a pitch he brought to Mark Burnett.

"I had known Mark," he explains. "I was living around L.A., and they had this idea. I said, 'I will create the most amazing, authentic, cinematic, visceral images for you for your show. This main title sequence, that's what it needs. Real imagery of the people in the jungle. We need to elevate it to a cinematic movie feel.' That was my pitch."

For Duncan, who had worked in both sports and nature photography, Survivor was a perfect merging of his two worlds. He would be able to capture creatures in the wild, attempting to construct a society while savagely turning on one another. And, on occasion, they would do battle in the challenges, where he could highlight action shots of these players desperately fighting to stay in the game one more night. With that impassioned pitch for a cinematic opening sequence, Burnett felt Survivor would be the perfect place for him.

Before Duncan knew it, he was on a flight out to Malaysia, one of the boots on the ground during the incredibly experimental first season in Pulau Tiga. Duncan admits that the "fly by the seat of your pants" energy that much of the Season 1 crew has recalled extended to his work as well. Every day, he would wake up with an open mind as to where and how he was going to film these castaways. But, despite all the movement, there was one idea that, in his mind, remained quite still — literally.

Scott Duncan made use of still photos of 'Survivor' castaways in early versions of the opening credits, as seen here with Season 2's Colby Donaldson, aiming to make a 'memory album' of the players.

Courtesy of CBS

"I did a lot of photography in the beginning," he reveals. "Because I really felt that the still photo imagery of the contestants was great. Everyone was used to a photo. We didn't have a phone then; it was like you could hold a photo tangible. So I wanted to take pictures of them, and people would be like, 'Oh, it's like a memory album.' A little bit of an adventure sequence with a cinematic kind of story behind it to tie all this together."

Indeed, looking at the opening credit sequences from the earlier seasons, Duncan made use of a number of photos, both black-and-white and color (something he said he did on purpose, mixing the media to represent the melting pot of a Survivor cast). Even when the players were on video, they were remarkably still, embodying that "memory album" feel.

No Survivor intro is complete, however, without the music. Russ Landau's "Ancient Voices" has become emblematic of the show, with fans singing along to the tribal chanting for over a quarter of a century. Duncan says that Landau had talked about the music with him while they were on the island, and so he always filmed with the composition in mind. Take, for instance, the opening image of a silhouetted person emerging from the water, conch shell in hand. The "ow-ooo" of someone blowing into the object, which immediately evokes imagery fromĀ Lord of the Flies, has become a constant across years of variations in the opening sequence.

Duncan says he received very little oversight from Burnett and crew while creating the sequence, essentially given carte blanche to bring his idea to life. And, after that superstar first season put the show on the map — and changed the face of TV forever — Duncan and the opening credits were here to stay.

"A woven mystery of magic"

Though Duncan has created opening credit sequences for almost 40 seasons of Survivor, he doesn't follow any tried-and-true formula. Instead, much like he did all the way back in Borneo, he walks into every season with an open mind.

"I'm always looking for just the most random amount of variety, and not pigeonholing myself ever," he says. "I'm always keeping open to try to find what they're giving me. Because they're the ones that make it for me. I just keep an eye open all the time."

That said, Duncan definitely uses consistent sources to get shots for the credits. Perhaps most paramount among them: The challenges. Before the season, he meets with the challenge team, who lay out the locations and structure of the first few episodes. Duncan's goal is to capture a wide swath of competitive settings, from out in the water to crawling through mud on land, highlighting feats like lifting someone up over a wall or solving a game-clinching puzzle.

Throughout his career, Duncan has covered a number of high-stakes sporting events, including the 2000 and 2008 Summer Olympics, and the 2002 and 2006 Winter Olympics. Competition runs in his blood, considering he's the older brother of NBA legend Tim Duncan. As he puts it, it gives him almost a supernatural ability to "see everything in slow-motion." And it was only a matter of time until he brought that out of his toolbox to showcase an epic jump, dive or even just a game-face grimace.

"Everyone in a challenge says it's a sporting event," he describes. "They're 1,000% focused on the win. So in their athlete mind, they want to win so bad. So you can capture people being themselves and being insanely passionate. Even if it's the eye blink or the move or how their demeanor is, or who they're up against, or what they're going to do, or their body language.

"And those kinds of moments in a challenge just lend themselves to piles of moments that also go by so fast that they can't see. I love to shoot super high speed to capture those moments of pure passion. They're pouring it all out there."

The other location where Duncan captures content is the camps. There, the players are in more of a resting state (sometimes quite literally). It's an opportunity to showcase their more natural side, even if they feel rather unnatural, starving in their underwear in the middle of Fiji. It captures, as Duncan puts it, "a great human portrait."

Additionally, those portraits can sometimes not only paint a picture of who they are but also what's to come in the game. One recent example Duncan brings up comes from Survivor 46. Charlie Davis and Maria Shrime Gonzalez are displayed back-to-back, each holding opposite sides of a bamboo pole. It's a delicious Easter egg now that we know the two would not only become one of the most successful duos that season, but also one of its most consequential, as Maria would go on to not vote for Charlie in the end, losing him the million dollars.

"I try to look into that storytelling," Duncan says about those types of moments. "And it's the individual personalities that I try to connect or not connect. Or connect in a way that's like, 'Ooh, what is that?' So gives a little bit of a tease or not. 'What's the mystery with those two?'"

Once Duncan feels he's collected all the footage he may need, then comes the next, and perhaps most crucial step: Editing. Despite starting this entire opening credits idea as a solo project, he continually praises the team effort it takes to get the intro across the finish line. Not only do they help package everything into a bite-sized one-minute spectacle, but they'll also advise him if something particularly special happened with a player, something that could create those hidden teases that were previously mentioned.

Perhaps the most crucial part of editing, however, from Duncan's perspective, is the color grading. Something so small in eyes looms large to him, as he undergoes a series of subtle artistic choices to make the natural colors in his footage more vivid. According to Duncan, he uses a different color palette for each and every intro he creates, from the lush greenery of Gabon to the deep blues of the Cook Islandsocean. He makes sure to alternate between lighter and darker colors each season so he never does the same thing back-to-back. He even consults with head of the Art Department Zac Jensen, expanding on the themes he is using at that season's Tribal Council set.

"I try to really bounce ideas off the team," Duncan says. "Because we are a collaborative effort that comes in the full package in the final cut. I think just the continuity all around just helps the overall enjoyment of like, 'Wow, it's, it's all woven together.' It is a woven machine of magic."

Evolution, extinction, and reentry

For the first 14 seasons, the Survivor credits generally maintained the same structure. Sure, the imagery and music would change, depending on the location the show would be for that particular season. But, every episode, either right after the recap of the previous episode, or shortly thereafter, we would be treated to the full-length sequence.

But, just like so many facets of Survivor, it eventually began to evolve. Starting in China, multiple versions of the intro were created. Those who were voted out were not only removed from the game, but also the credits. In the postmerge, the jury would be demarcated into their own section, much as they were at Tribal Council. Sometimes, there would be no credits at all, with instead a 3-5 second cut serving as a quick stinger before getting into all the action.

Duncan credits Jeff Probst for the innovation. At that time, the veteran host had begun to work more behind-the-scenes, eventually assuming the additional roles of showrunner and executive producer. And he was looking for ways to vary up some of the tried-and-true elements of Survivor, including the credits.

"We really started to expand using all of my imagery," Duncan recounts. "Working with Jeff, he just really wanted to use my resources more. If I had 100 images, he's like, 'Let's try to use them all. Let's keep building and building on the main title, or on a new main title, or a main title with an option, or a main title with a secret in it. That was really Jeff opening the door, seeing all the imagery I was capturing. And I kept evolving to trying to offer more images to the show, for the viewer to experience it."

One of the reasons for creating alternate versions of the credits was less artistic and more practical. With only 42 minutes of screentime per week (plus commercials), as Survivor continued to evolve, more time needed to be dedicated to the variety of characters, idols and advantages that were brought into the game. Starting in Season 36, Ghost Island, the credits were eliminated altogether from the show, and instead put online as a bonus clip. By Season 39, any sign of the sequence had disappeared from any screens (sans a special version done for the Winners at War finale). And, as Survivor segued into its "new era," which arguably focused even more on the twists and turns of the game, the credits seemed to fade further and further into the background, firmly in the show's rearview mirror.

After a lengthy hiatus, 'Survivor 45' saw the return of the opening credits. And Scott Duncan launched a "new era" of his own, incorporating Jeff Probst more into the sequence (as seen in this shot from the 'Survivor 47' intro).

Courtesy of CBS

That didn't stop fans from vocalizing their desire to bring it back, however. And, in 2023, their prayers were answered. Anticipating a dearth of programming due to the impending WGA and SAG/AFTRA strike, CBS made the decision to bump weekly Survivor episodes up from 60 minutes to 90 minutes. Increasing the runtime by 50% allowed for a wealth of creative opportunities, including more focus on the players and the revival of events like the auction. And, most pertinently, it meant the long-awaited return of the opening credits.

"That was the best day ever," Duncan laughs. "Because then I knew I had to really, really elevate it. I was like, 'Well, okay, now it's coming back. I have to make it better than it ever was. More shots, more cameras, more drones, more slo-mo, more underwater. How am I going to keep making it better?'"

Duncan explains he's done that in a couple of ways. He confirms that, since the return of the intro, they've focused more on building a storyline through his choice of shots. What are these players doing? What are they looking at? Where are they going? Who are they with? That's where moments like the aforementioned Charlie/Maria back-to-back come into play.

"It's a visual story, instead of just a montage of absolute eye candy," Duncan says. "That's very exciting."

The biggest change in the new credits, though, has to be the involvement of Probst himself. Prior to the new era, he had not been seen in any of the sequences. But, even though the footage is still by and large focused on the cast, we've seen a few spare shots from the Emmy winner, usually with him ominously holding a torch snuffer. And it turned out that his inclusion was a long-held wish of Duncan's.

"I always wanted Jeff to be in it forever," he reveals. "I always wanted him to get in some of my scenes more. And then I started filming him more on challenges. And then I slowly integrated him into the main title through kind of secret shots of him, being the mystery figure a little bit. So that's been really fun to, again, keep elevating, growing with new images and things like that."

In the hands of the fans

When I speak with Duncan, we're three days into Survivor 50. He's already been hard at work, as I've observed his trademark beaming smile and knit cap running around both the season's opening and first Immunity Challenge. And, of course, even as he keeps an open mind of what footage to capture, he's already conceptualizing how he wants the Season 50 credits to look, given the "celebrational" aspect of the returnee season.

"When I was filming at the camps and on the ocean, I was thinking about elevating it to maybe a little different path," he explains. "Because obviously, everybody knows the characters. So it's not like I'm trying to say, 'Here's a new person. You don't know them.' Everybody knows each character.' So I'm kind of weaving a new story."

Season 50 is branded "In the Hands of the Fans." And, over the course of 26 years and counting, some creative fans have taken the concept of Survivor into their own hands. Some run their own versions of the game, either in-person or exclusively online. A few compose songs about the castaways and Probst. And some, inspired by what Duncan has provided since the beginning, have taken to their own edit bay.

Indeed, if you look across YouTube, you can find seemingly unlimited fan edits of Survivor opening credits. Intrepid souls stepped in when the sequence disappeared for five seasons, using spare footage to cut their own intro. They've even used the sequence to highlight their own casting choices in a returning player season. So how does Duncan feel that so many fans have taken his brainchild and made it their own?

"That's so wonderful," he answers. "It's great to be complimented that way. They take a piece of art I wanted to make as the main title, to share the show and share the feelings of the show. And I'm happy I can inspire them to have fun and enjoy the show in other ways."

'It's great to be complimented that way,' Scott Duncan says when asked about 'Survivor' fans creating their own opening credits. 'I'm happy I can inspire them to have fun and enjoy the show in other ways.'

And, despite how off-the-grid Duncan is compared to a public face of the show like Probst, he reveals he actually will occasionally receive his share of fan mail.

"They find me," he explains. "They send me their credit sequences. Or they say, 'Oh, I love that. What did you do with that? What equipment did you use for that shot?' Or they go, 'Oh my gosh, we love the main title. The show is it with the main title. It's amazingly flattering."

Not only that, but it makes Duncan feel his purpose has been fulfilled. In 2000, he pitched an idea that was simple in concept, complicated in execution: Find a way to introduce Survivor's cast of characters to make them feel larger than life. And, 50 seasons in, it's become not only an essential part of the show, but one of the most emotionally resonant constants for fans over the years.

"They get goosebumps out of it," Duncan says. "They feel the shot. They see the player they love, or they see a moment of emotion. And I love that. I love to share. If you don't get goosebumps, it's not a good shot. You have to feel the goosebumps. You gotta have the energy. Even I get goosebumps after watching it so many times. I shot it, and I'm like, 'Oh my gosh!' It's erupting. I'm still in it, so deeply ingrained in it. And that's the feeling I always look forward to."

Screen Legend Kathleen Turner, 71, Makes Rare Red Carpet Appearance 45 Years After ā€˜Body Heat'

Wed, 03/11/2026 - 10:55am

Kathleen Turner rarely steps out on the red carpet these days, but the legendary actress made an exception for a recent appearance.

The beloved star, 71, who rose to stardom in the role of sex symbol Matty Walker inĀ the 1981 film Body Heat, went on to memorable roles like The War of the Roses, Peggy Sue Got Married, and The Virgin Suicides. She even nailed several comedic roles, like starring as Chandler Bing's transgender father on Friends. But these days, Turner is enjoying a quieter life. The iconic star stepped out to attend the New York premiere of Netflix's Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man at DGA Theater. While she walked with a cane, the icon of the screen smiled brightly for the cameras as they eagerly took her photo. Who wouldn't want to catch a shot of this legend?

When Did Turner Last Hit the Red Carpet?

The legendary actress made a rare appearance last summer at the New York City premiere ofĀ The RosesĀ at the Hudson Theatre on Monday. The black comedy, based on the 1981 novelĀ The War of the RosesĀ byĀ Warren Adler, tells the story of a couple, Ivy and Theo, played byĀ Benedict CumberbatchĀ andĀ Olivia Colman, who face a crossroads in their troubled relationship.Ā Andy Samberg,Ā Kate McKinnon,Ā andĀ Allison JanneyĀ have supporting roles in the film.

It would have been only appropriate to have Turner at the premiere of the film, since she starred oppositeĀ Michael DouglasĀ in the 1989 film adaptation of the book, which was a runaway hit directed byĀ Danny DeVito. The legendary actress wore a full-length black dress for the occasion, along with black sandals. While her arm was in a sling, there was no word about the cause of her injury. She also walked with a cane. Smiling brightly for the camera, Turner appeared happy to be at the big event.

Was Turner Okay With Another Remake of The War of the Roses?

Turner made it clear from the start that she was comfortable with the film being remade, despite being such an iconic part of the original. Ahead of the premiere, she toldĀ USA TODAYĀ that she would be there to support it, no matter what.

ā€œI do plan to seeĀ The RosesĀ at the premiere in NYC,ā€ she told the paper ahead of the big premiere. ā€œShould be fun and I have a bet with myself that they don’t die,ā€ she added, referencing several wild scenes from the original film when the couple battled each other.

Looking back on her time making the film with Douglas, Turner shared that the feelings that come with making a movie about divorce can be heavy. However, the stars made sure to keep their relationships intact.

ā€œI remember that sometimes the anger seemed too real, so we made a pact that no one left set without hugging the others!ā€ Turner said. ā€œI don’t think these are the feelings brought up by divorce āˆ’ at least I surely hope not.ā€

Turner also has a big fan in Cumberbatch, who said he was a big fan of the original.

ā€œIt was an iconic film that we both remember from our youth,ā€ he told the publication, ā€œand (we’re) big Kathleen Turner and Michael Douglas fans.ā€

Iconic '70s Singer, With No. 1 Hit Song, Turns 69

Wed, 03/11/2026 - 10:52am

Disco fans know there are hits, and then there are songs that define an entire era.

For singer Cheryl Lynn, that defining moment came with the electrifying 1978 single, "Got to Be Real," a track that quickly became one of the most beloved dance records of the disco era. Now, the iconic vocalist is celebrating her 69th birthday, decades after the song first took over dance floors.

Released from her self-titled debut album, "Got to Be Real" was produced by the legendary David Foster and co-written by Lynn alongside Foster and songwriter David Paich. With its soaring vocals, punchy brass and irresistible groove, the track quickly became a sensation.

The song climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Soul Singles chart and reached the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100, cementing Lynn's place among the defining voices of the disco era.

Lynn's powerhouse vocal performance became the song's calling card. From its instantly recognizable opening notes to its triumphant chorus, "Got to Be Real" has remained a staple of dance floors, film soundtracks and retro playlists for more than four decades.

Before launching her solo career, Lynn had already built an impressive rƩsumƩ. She first gained national attention as a contestant on the television talent show The Gong Show, where her powerful voice caught the attention of industry insiders. That breakthrough moment helped lead to her recording contract and eventual debut album.

But, despite her undeniable talent, Lynn didn't imagine she would ever become a music superstar. "Very honestly, I never thought of music of being a career," said Lynn in an interview with Gary James. "I wasn't thinking in that direction. I was going to school at the University Of Southern California, majoring in speech pathology. I wanted to be a successful, independent woman. I didn't want to be dependent on my husband. Besides, my mother said education comes first."

Over the years, "Got to Be Real" has taken on a life of its own, frequently appearing on lists of the greatest disco songs ever recorded. The track has also been sampled, remixed and featured in numerous films and television shows, introducing new generations of listeners to Lynn's unmistakable voice.

More than 45 years after its release, the song remains a timeless dance anthem and proof that when Cheryl Lynn stepped behind the microphone, she really did get real.

Psychedelic Rock Band’s First Single Turns 59

Wed, 03/11/2026 - 10:45am

On March 10, 1967, Pink Floyd released their first single, "Arnold Layne." The song's lyrics are personal and were controversial at the time. This year the debut turns 59, and the reception to the song would be very different today.

The Meaning Behind Pink Floyd's 'Arnold Layne'

Syd Barrett wrote the lyrics about a nasty person with a strange hobby named Arnold Layne. It's based on a real person from when bassist Roger Waters, guitarist David Gilmore, and Barrett attended Cambridgeshire High School for Boys with, according to Far Out.

Someone was stealing women's underwear and garters to wear them himself. Waters and Barrett's mothers had their stuff stolen because they had students attending the girls' school down the road.

The songwriter changed the thief's name for the song, which reached number 20 on the UK Singles Chart. That's not the only thing that was changed. "I pinched the line about 'moonshine washing line' from Rog, our bass guitarist – because he has an enormous washing line in the back garden of his house," Barrett told Melody Maker, according to Uncut.

The cross-dressing aspect of the story made it controversial. "About the only other lyric anybody could object to is the bit about, ā€˜it takes two to know, two to know’ – and there’s nothing ā€˜smutty’ about that!" he said. Some radio stations refused to play it.

The band reunited in 2007 at The Madcap’s Last Laugh and played the single in honor of Barrett, according to American Songwriter. He died at 60 the previous year. Richard Wright, who harmonized with the lead singer, sang the lyrics.

The B-side of the single was, "Candy and a Currant Bun." Once again Barrett was pushed to change explicit lyrics about drug use for the recording. "Arnold Layne" introduced the band to a wider audience, but it wasn't released on their debut album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn.

Nicole Kidman has broken her silence following her high-profile divorce from country singer Keith Urban.

The Big Little Lies actress opened up about her difficult year in a new interview with Variety, saying she's "doing all right."

"I’m always going to be moving toward what’s good. What I’m grateful for is my family and keeping them as is and moving forward," Kidman said in the interview published on Wednesday, March 11. "That’s that. Everything else I don’t discuss out of respect."

The couple shocked the world when they called it quits after nearly 20 years of marriage in September. Kidman filed for divorce in Tennessee just one day after reports began to circulate that she and Urban had spent the summer apart.

The divorce was settled quickly, with the former couple agreeing to split custody of their daughters, Sunday Rose and Faith. Kidman was granted primary residential custody and will spend 306 days a year with the girls, while Urban will get time every other weekend.

"I’m staying in a place of, 'We are a family,'" Kidman added to Variety. "That’s what we’ll continue to be. My beautiful girls, my darlings, who are suddenly women."

Dennis Quaid Says His 'Heart Breaks' Every Time He Watches 'The Parent Trap'

Wed, 03/11/2026 - 10:27am

Dennis Quaid is looking back on one of his most beloved films: The Parent Trap.

During a new interview for the Out of Order podcast, the actor opened up about his experience on the 1998 cult-classic film, in which he starred alongside Lindsay Lohan, Natasha Richardson, Elaine Hendrix, Lisa Ann Walter and more.

But Quaid, 71, said his "heart breaks" whenever he watches the movie nowadays due to Richardson's untimely death nearly 17 years ago. The British actress tragically died from a traumatic brain injury she sustained while skiing in March 2009. She was 45.

"My heart breaks every time," Quaid said on the March 10 podcast episode, after viewing one of his most moving scenes with Richardson from the film.

He went on to call the late actress "an incredible person," while stating, "If there's anybody I'd ever want to work with again, it'd be her."

"She was just a great person besides being an amazing actor," Quaid continued, as tears welled up in his eyes.

"She has a charm to her," Quaid said of the late star, known for other films like Widow's Peak (1994), Nell (1994), Maid in Manhattan (2002), Asylum (2005), and several other projects.

He also praised Richardson for her "relationship with her own kids," which Quaid believes she "brought" to her role in TheParent Trap. Richardson, who was married to actor Liam Neeson from 1994 up until her death in 2009, was a mother to their two kids together, sons, MicheƔl and Daniel, who were 13 and 12, respectively, at the time of her death.

"There's just something magical about her," Quaid further said of Richardson during the new interview, while adding, "[I] really miss her."

Woman Shares Viral Video of Fellow Passenger’s Unhinged Reaction to Her Reclined Seat

Wed, 03/11/2026 - 10:24am

I can admit that I am in camp "don't recline your seat" when flying. In my opinion, space is tight enough already—why encroach on someone's personal space even more? But when I have been put in a situation where the person in front of me reclines, I roll my eyes and move on. Why? Because technically speaking, the seat reclines, and they have a right to do it.

A woman who took the liberty of doing so on a recent flight showed through TikTok that her choice cost her a restful flight. User @ameejau took to the social media platform to share a video of the woman behind her repeatedly and rather violently shoving her seat forward.

"Worst plane ride," she simply captioned the video. Digging through the comments section, the flyer noted that the behavior was rather...persistent.

"I was turning around so many times and went to see the flight attendants. This woman continued through the whole [redacted] flight."

People were furious for her and generally agreed that no matter what their stance was on reclining, it didn't warrant that big of a reaction.

"I would have ended up on the no-fly list at 25 minutes into that flight," commented one follower.

"I’m an airline pilot and this is NOT acceptable," said another follower. "Call the cabin crew members, they OWN the cabin and will straighten this out ASAP."

"As a flight attendant please call me for this," added another. "This is the drama I live to get people removed from the flight for. Everybody has the right to recline, especially if it’s not mealtime!"

"As someone who hates when people recline their chairs, this is INSANE!! The seats are meant to recline. People PAID for their seats—they can do whatever they want! While it is annoying, you can’t be upset when people use the seats as they were designed," said another.

Proper Etiquette Around Seat Reclining on Flights

Like everything under the sun, there is a time and place for reclining, and there is a way to do it respectfully. Here are a few do's and don'ts you can live by:

  • DON'T recline when it is mealtime. The person behind you has a right to eat their meal without interference.
  • DO give the person behind you a heads up. Do not confuse this with asking for permission—just a quick "heads up, I'm reclining" would suffice.

You know what people statistically hate more than seat reclining? According to a 2022 study by Upgrade Points, Americans say "having the back of your seat kicked" is the number one annoyance while flying.

So really, who's in the wrong here?

Chiefs Make Announcement About Travis Kelce

Wed, 03/11/2026 - 10:15am

After plenty of speculation on whether Travis Kelcewould be returning to the Chiefs or retiring from the NFL, the football team has made an official announcement.

On Wednesday, March 11, the KC Chiefs' social media account shared a photo of number 87 on the field, along with the words "He's back" written across the image.

Leaving no room for doubt and putting rumors to rest about Kelce's future with the team, the caption emphasized, "Ain’t done yet.Ā @killatravĀ is back šŸ¹"

The comment section quickly filled up with divided opinions about the 36-year-old's return for yet another season.

"Glad he didn’t listen to the public pressure to retire. He’s still one of the top TEs in the league," one fan wrote, while another insisted, "Mid, bro should retire."

A handful more celebrated, as one expressed, "Let’s go get this done for the farewell szn šŸ”„," as others insisted he wasn't going anywhere and called him the "goat."

The announcement also included an edited video of Kelce in his red and gold uniform, with the caption, "Like he never left."

While many expressed excitement over the big news, others suggested Kelce needed to put in the work now as he "looked slow last season."

A handful of others already bet big on Kelce's return, confidently stating, "SEE YALL AT SUPER BOWL 60!"

Kelce reportedly agreed to a new one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs worth $12 milion with a maximum value of $15, down from his previous average of about $17 million.

He put to rest speculation of retirement following a difficult 2025 run prior to the Chiefs' official announcement.

During an appearance onĀ The Pat McAfee Show, Kelce credited his fiancĆ©e, Taylor Swift, for inspiring the career decision, as he admitted that the pop superstar’s work ethic and passion pushed him to rethink stepping away from football.

As for the decision, Kelce noted it was "pretty short and brief,ā€ emphasizing that he's "still in love with this game."

Kelce, largely considered the greatest tight end in NFL history after winning three Super Bowls and setting countless football records, seemingly didn't want to end his impressive career overshadowed by a lackluster and brutal season.

In 2025, the NFL playoffs and the road to the Super Bowl did not feature the Chiefs for the first time since 2014. They finished with a losing record for the first time since 2012.

Following the season, Kelce was unsure about his future but vowed to decide before March's free agency period, sticking to his promise.

Coach Andy Reid seemingly felt confident Kelce would stay on, previously stating, "There is communication. That's the main thing. I've said this before: As long as there's communication, I'm good. That means people want to move forward."

The other thing that's great about this recipe? The ingredients list is quite short, and I had most of the things at home already. I took that as a sign and ran out to grab what I didn't have at home, jumped back in the kitchen and got to work. Here's how it went.

How to Make Patti LaBelle's Beef Short Ribs

Start by seasoning the short ribs with Himalayan salt and white pepper, before evenly coating the ribs with flour. In a large stockpot or Dutch oven, heat the grapeseed oil over high heat. Carefully add the short ribs, searing them until they're golden brown on both sides, which should take about 2 minutes per side.Ā

Once the ribs are browned, add the beef stock, carrots, celery and green pepper to the pot. Reduce the heat to low, cover and let everything simmer until the meat is tender and easily separates from the bone. This typically takes about 2 1/2 hours. Serve with the side dish of your choice.

It's difficult to find a Patti LaBelle recipe that isn't worth talking about or making again. That said, this recipe wasn't exactly what I was expecting. It felt as if this was more of a roast instead of the usual braised beef short ribs you might expect. And while the dish was tasty, I felt like it needed a bit more flavor and richness to make it really delicious.

To me, this recipe feels like a great starting point for anyone wanting to learn how to make beef short ribs—and that's not a bad thing at all. So, would I make this again? Absolutely. Next time, I'd add some extra spices and ingredients to make it even better. With a few tweaks that better suit my palate, I think this could be amazing!
