1982 Grammy-Winning Rock Classic Became a Timeless Anthem, Despite Never Reaching No. 1

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 7:08pm

John Mellencamp's beloved 1982 song, "Hurts So Good," is among the most popular rock tracks from the '80s. However, the song, which snagged him the 1983 Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance, was never a No. 1 hit.

American Songwriter reported that the tune, which Mellencamp released on the album American Fool under the name John Courage, did reach Billboard's Top 100 No. 2 position in 1982. However, the popularity of "The Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor, written for the Rocky III soundtrack, continually topped the charts throughout '82.

Mellencamp discussed writing and recording American Fool, his fifth album, in a 1982 interview for Night Flight. He said that making the record was a longer process than he anticipated.

"The record took almost two years to make. And I thought it was because I wanted to do the album right, but I found it's because I was lazy. You know, I just would write a few songs go in and record and go home, listen to those, go back, write a few songs, record them," said Mellencamp during the 1982 interview.

He also noted that it was a bit difficult to make a cohesive record with members of his band. He explained that while it's relatively easy "to write a good song" on the guitar, it's "a whole different thing to have like eight or nine guys playing it with you." The musician went on to say that it takes some workshopping to figure out when and how specific instruments should be used in a given song.

During the Night Flight interview, Mellencamp also addressed the belief he was a very serious musical artist.

"I'm not really as serious as people think. I'm not as serious about my music, I mean I'm serious about it, but I'm not like Elvis Costello," said Mellencamp.

He then said that he believed the misconception about his demeanor started when he released his first album, Chestnut Street Incident (1976).

"That's just something that's been hung on me from the very first record, the very first record ever made, I got that. And it just lingered on ever since, but really that's not really true," said the singer, now 74.

The L'Oréal Anchor

Longoria attended as a L'Oréal Paris ambassador, a role she has held since 2005. L'Oréal Paris is the longtime official beauty partner of the Cannes Film Festival, and the role has made the actress and director a fixture on the Croisette across two decades of festivals. Longoria directed the 2023 biopic Flamin' Hot and is directing the upcoming Netflix comedy The Fifth Wheel, starring Kim Kardashian and Nikki Glaser. Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson joined the cast earlier this year.

Who Else Walked the Carpet

The premiere drew a heavyweight European ensemble. Monica Bellucci, who plays an Italian painter named Cristina in the film, walked the carpet alongside Gillian Anderson and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Ariana Greenblatt and Tara Reid were also among the attendees.

What the Film Is About

Histoires de la Nuit, adapted from Laurent Mauvignier's 2020 novel of the same title, follows a family in rural Limousin, France, whose surprise birthday party for matriarch Nora descends into a violent home invasion. Director Léa Mysius cast Hafsia Herzi and Bastien Bouillon as the parents, with Benoßt Magimel among the intruders. The film is one of 22 in the Official Competition at the 79th Festival de Cannes. Park Chan-wook's jury, which includes Demi Moore, Chloé Zhao and Stellan SkarsgÄrd, announces the Palme d'Or on Saturday, May 23.

Yes! Last year, Hoffs released a new solo version of one of the Bangles’ most iconic songs.

“Here is a brand new recording of ‘Eternal Flame’ which I co-wrote in 1988 with my friends Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly,” Hoffs wrote in a social media post. “I was inspired to sing it again! As I stood before the microphone, I fought back tears of gratitude—for the opportunity to sing a song I have loved and cherished my entire adult life. We’ve grown up together!”

The singer continued, sharing how people continue to tell her how much the song means to them.

“I’ve been touched time and again by stories from friends and strangers alike who’ve expressed how much ‘Eternal Flame’ has meant to them, whether the song played as they walked down the aisle at their wedding, or brought consolation. I still wake up each morning, motivated to sing, to write, to make art, and to find ways to connect,” she noted. “I’m still that same girl with that same emotion—older, and hopefully wiser.”

1980 Megahit Ballad Covered by the ‘Best Female Actor of All Time’ Is Making a Comeback

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 6:59pm

ABBA’s summer-of-1980 megahit “The Winner Takes It All” is experiencing renewed attention, but not in its original format. Instead, it’s the cover performed by Meryl Streep in the 2008 jukebox musical Mamma Mia! that is experiencing momentum again.

The film, headlined by the greatest female actor of all time and co-starring Amanda Seyfried, Pierce Brosnan, Christine Baranski, and others, became a full-blown phenomenon in 2008, dominating the box office while turning its soundtrack into a runaway success. Award recognition quickly followed, with the ABBA homage earning nominations everywhere from the Golden Globes and BAFTAs to even the Grammys.

As for the original song, it was released as the lead single from ABBA’s seventh studio album, Super Trouper. Recorded as a synth-infused pop ballad, “The Winner Takes It All” topped charts worldwide and peaked in the Top 10 in the U.S. Streep’s take on the track is a rawer, more theatrical version — perfectly suited to a trend that calls for emotional lip-syncs, scenarios of heartbreak, and other meaningful shares on social media.

Whatever it takes to discover the magic of ABBA, right?

According to Expedia, These Are the Most Popular US Cities to Visit This Summer (And #1 May Surprise You)

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 6:58pm

Forget long international flights and expensive resort stays. This summer, travelers are thinking smaller, closer and cheaper. “This summer, travel isn’t slowing down—it’s being reshaped,” said Melanie Fish, Expedia’s Vice President of Global Public Relations in a press release. “As major global events and rising costs influence decisions, travelers are either staying closer to home or seeking out destinations where they can get more for their money.”

According to Expedia Group's latest travel report, Americans are choosing domestic destinations they can drive to or fly to quickly—and one little-known Utah town just became the hottest spot on the map.

St. George, Utah, saw a 125% increase in accommodation searches compared to last summer, making it the top trending destination in the U.S. If you haven't heard of it, you're not alone. The town sits near some of the most stunning national parks and red rock formations in the country, and apparently, word is finally getting out.

The 'Stay-Here Summer' Is Here

What's driving the shift? The combination of rising travel costs, shorter vacation windows, and the general fatigue around complicated international travel is reshaping where Americans spend their summer. Expedia calls it the "Stay-Here Summer"—proximity and value are now the priority.

The numbers speak for themselves: 63% of U.S. travelers are planning a domestic trip this summer. Florida and California beaches are seeing 50% more searches. Interest in domestic lakes, mountains, and national parks has jumped 65% year-over-year. Instead of spending an arm and a leg on transportation costs, people are clearly rethinking how they vacation.

Expedia's Top 10 Summer Destinations
  • #1: St. George, Utah (+125%) – Red-rock hiking
  • #2: Tacoma, Washington (+120%) – Mount Rainier & Olympic National Parks
  • #3: Asheville, North Carolina (+80%) – Breweries & Blue Ridge mountains
  • #4: Bradenton, Florida (+75%) – Anna Maria Island gateway
  • #5: Santa Cruz, California (+65%) – Surf & boardwalk vibes
  • #6: Siesta Key, Florida (+50%) – Powder-white beaches
  • #7: Truckee, California (+40%) – Lake Tahoe base
  • #8: Bozeman, Montana (+30%) – Yellowstone National Park & fishing
  • #9: Prescott, Arizona (+30%) – Lakes, pines, granite dells
  • #10: Providence, Rhode Island (+25%) – Riverwalk & arts institutions
More Than Just One-Destination Trips

Instead of just sticking to a traditional single destination, travelers are also redefining how they maximize their vacation time domestically. Hotel hopping—staying at multiple hotels during one trip—is gaining traction as people try to experience more in less time. Some are booking a hotel near a major event (like the FIFA World Cup this summer) and then moving to a different neighborhood afterward.

Others are committing to iconic road trips. Route 66, celebrating its centennial, is seeing a 302% increase in mentions, while the Blue Ridge Parkway (+206%) and Pacific Coast Highway (+75%) are also trending.

"Beach readaways" are a thing now—vacations centered entirely around books, relaxation, and stepping away from daily life. Social buzz for beach readaways is up 213% year-over-year, with travelers making books part of their summer rental experience at places like Cape Cod, and Nantucket.

Another emerging trend, dubbed "set-jetting" by Expedia, involves planning trips around TV shows and movies you love. Expedia predicts locales like Rhode Island will start seeing a jump in tourist traffic thanks to the debut of The Real Housewives of Rhode Island.

What This Means

Rising costs and global events are keeping travelers closer to home, but they're also getting creative about how they vacation. Whether it's exploring red rock formations in Utah or driving down Route 66, Americans are finding smarter ways to spend their summer travel budget.

1964 Rock Classic, With a Revolutionary Guitar Riff, Inspired a Generation of Rock Musicians

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 6:58pm

Some rock tracks go down in history for being trailblazers in the genre, like a 1964 rock classic by The Kinks. It's celebrated as a hit track that presaged hard rock and put power chords on the map, with conflicting details on who really recorded its legendary guitar riff.

The Kinks made a breakthrough, establishing themselves as a hit rock band out of the UK when they released their third single, "You Really Got Me." Written by Ray Davies, the track was released in early August 1964 and became known as a track that would influence generations of guitarists and rock musicians, especially in the heavy metal and punk rock genres.

Davies revealed to have been inspired to write the track during his college days with the Dave Hunt Band. He had spotted a pretty girl on the dance floor, but she was already gone by the time he reached her. "You Really Got Me." It landed on the Billboard Hot 100 charts at No. 7 and across the country.

According to Guitar Player, the song was created on a piano in the front room of Davies' home. Actually, the track wasn't meant to be a hard-hitting rock record, with Davies saying he "wanted it to be a jazz-type tune, because that's what I liked at the time. It’s written originally around a sax line ..."

His brother, Dave, had other ideas and played the saxophone solo in fuzz guitar. He admits that a majority of his tracks came to life on the piano before his brother added the guitar, and they often got into fights about what was too much for a track.

"You Really Got Me" has a myth of Jimmy Page playing the guitar riff

The influential distortion sound of the guitar track was created when Dave sliced the speaker cone of his guitar amplifier with a razor blade and poked it with a pin. Alongside The Kinks' song becoming a rock sensation, so did the myth behind who played the guitar solo.

Rumors circulated thatJimmy Page, the future guitarist of Led Zeppelin, was the one who played the guitar riff. For years, The Kinks and Page denied that he played the riff, with Page even once commenting to Sound on Sound, "I didn't play on 'You Really Got Me' and that's what pisses him [Ray Davies] off." He did admit years later that he played guitar on some of The Kinks' albums.

"No, it's not true,” Ray told Ultimate-Guitar.com. "He was there at the sessions, because I thought they worried that we couldn't play! There's no animosity, and Jimmy was a nice guy, we got on well with him. I hardly said anything to him."

In a 1998 autobiographical release of The Storyteller, Ray explains that the riff had to be perfect during the recording. He had shouted at his brother across the studio for encouragement, "But I seemed to spoil his concentration. He looked at me with a dazed expression. 'F*ck off.'" Ray challenged fans to listen to the original recording after the second chorus, which proves they tried to cover up the profanity.

Child Psychologist Reveals: ‘This Is the Best Children's Show To Work on Empathy in Kids and Grandkids'

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 6:43pm

Parents and grandparents want to make sure they're teaching their kids (and grandkids) all the necessary life skills to grow up into kind, smart, well-rounded adults. One helpful way to teach empathy is by using children's shows to model that behavior. Many kids' TV shows are not just designed to entertain, they're designed to deliver important lessons in bite-sized ways that can actually stick with the child long after the TV is turned off. If you're looking for one show to try out for its empathy lessons, psychologist Dr. Lauren Mahoney has you covered.

In addition to providing private practice services at Authentically Living Psychological Services, Dr. Mahoney is a New York school psychologist with kids of her own. She's seen firsthand how children's media can be used in helpful ways.

"Parents are often hesitant about screen time, and that concern is valid. But not all screen time functions the same way," says Dr. Mahoney, adding, "A show... can be helpful, but only if it is used intentionally. Screen time does not replace teaching empathy. It supports it when it is paired with real-life interaction."

If you're looking for that jumping-off point to start teaching and modeling empathy, Dr. Mahoney has one show that she always recommends.

Dr. Mahoney says, "If I had to choose one cartoon that is especially effective for teaching empathy and prosocial behavior, I would choose Yo Gabba Gabba!"

The show originally premiered on Nickelodeon in 2007, and it blends original music, live-action scenes, puppetry, animated segments and more. The series ran for four seasons (66 episodes total) until 2015, and it can now be watched on The Roku Channel and Apple TV+. The latter streaming platform rebooted the series in 2024 with the show Yo Gabba GabbaLand! Two seasons of the reboot have aired, with the second season most recently premiering in January 2026.

"At first, I honestly did not understand the show," Dr. Mahoney admits. "When my own children were young, and it came on, I remember feeling overstimulated by the colors, the music and the pace. It seemed so bizarre, but they loved it."

She adds, "After repeated exposure, I started to see what it was doing. It was breaking social behavior down into simple, memorable units and pairing them with repetition, music and visual cues."

Related: Parenting Expert Warns: Avoid Making This 1 Screen Time Mistake With Toddlers

One particularly impactful moment from the show for the child psychologist was the “Don’t Bite Your Friends" song from Season 1, Episode 11.

"It felt almost ridiculous the first time I heard it, but when I later used that exact song with a student who was engaging in biting behavior and saw a decrease over time, it completely shifted how I viewed it," she states. "That was a moment where I realized how effective simple modeling and repetition can be when they are done in the right way."

She adds that when working with children, it's important to label a behavior and connect it to something they're familiar with.

"If a child uses gentle hands, shares or pauses before reacting... I might say, 'That’s just like the song, you used safe hands,' or 'You noticed your friend, that was kind,'" she continues. "The show becomes a shared language, which makes the skill easier to access and repeat."

4 Other Children's Shows a Psychologist Recommends To Teach Empathy to Kids1. 'Sesame Street'

"Sesame Streetis a long-standing staple for emotional language and inclusion," says Dr. Mahoney. "I personally remember many episodes with Big Bird demonstrating a strong emotion and being moved by it."

2. 'Bluey'

Dr. Mahoney says this show "has become a go-to because it captures real family dynamics... in a way that feels authentic."

Stream on Disney+

3. 'Inside Out'

Dr. Mahoney says she often uses Inside Outwhen counseling kids. "It gives children a concrete way to understand emotions," she says, adding, "Instead of asking a child to explain a complex feeling, I might ask, 'Is that Anger or Sadness?'"

She says that this conversation shift makes the feeling more accessible.

"It takes something abstract and makes it visual, structured and easier to work with," she says.

4. 'Mickey Mouse Clubhouse'

Dr. Mahoney says this show models "cooperation and helping behaviors."

"My youngest kid was obsessed, and he is one of the most empathetic teens I know," she adds.

How To Improve Empathy in Kids1. Co-viewing

Dr. Mahoney says it's important not to just park your kid in front of a show and expect it to teach them something. She recommends watching with the child to encourage a more engaged experience.

"When a child watches a show, even brief comments can activate learning," she explains.

She also suggests the parent make small prompts like, "She looks sad,” “That was kind” or “Why do you think that happened?”

"Without that layer, the child may enjoy the show but miss the deeper message," she tells Parade, adding, "Empathy is not just learned individually. It is learned socially. When children experience these moments alongside adults, the lesson becomes more meaningful."

2. Repetition

"Children do not learn empathy from one conversation," says Dr. Mahoney. "That is why songs, routines and familiar characters are so effective. When a behavior is paired with something memorable... it becomes easier for a child to retrieve in the moment."

She adds, "I have seen children reference songs, characters or phrases during real interactions, which is a clear sign that the learning is transferring."

3. Beyond the screen

Dr. Mahoney says it's important to go beyond just watching educational shows, though.

"Empathy is built in everyday interactions," she says, suggesting that you read books together, talk about emotions in real life and model behaviors for them.

"Children are constantly watching how adults respond. If they see empathy modeled consistently, they internalize it," she adds. "It is about helping them understand what another person might be experiencing and giving them the tools to respond."

She suggests taking moments to say things like, "Look at your friend’s face, what do you think they’re feeling?” followed by, “What could you do to help?”

As Dr. Mahoney explains, "These small interactions build awareness and guide behavior in real time."

The British singer-songwriter, 38, shared the news in an emotional Instagram video posted Thursday, May 21, nearly one year after publicly revealing her breast cancer diagnosis. "RESULTS ARE IN AND I AM CANCER FREE!!" she wrote in the caption. "I sobbed for hours and then exhaled for the first time in a year." She said the update followed a breast MRI and a yearly checkup.

A Year of Lows and Highs

Jessie J first announced her diagnosis in June 2025. She had been "going back and forth" over whether to share the news, she said at the time, but wanted to "share it with my fans." She underwent a right-side mastectomy that summer and received the all-clear from her doctor in July.

In late August, she announced she would need a follow-up surgery and cancelled the U.S. leg of her "No Secrets" tour to accommodate it. The "Price Tag" singer returned to the stage that September at BBC Radio 2 in the Park festival in Chelmsford, Essex. It was the first time her 2-year-old son saw her perform live. The follow-up procedure was postponed in October after a change in her surgeon.

Before performing her single "Living My Best Life" at the festival, she addressed the audience. "I'm just so grateful to be here," she said. She told fans she had been diagnosed two weeks before that song's release and rejected advice to put everything on hold. "Life is about standing in the storm but holding up your umbrella," she said.

What's Next

Jessie J released her sixth studio album, Don't Tease Me With a Good Time, on Nov. 28, 2025. It was her first record in eight years and the first she dropped since parting ways with Republic Records, self-releasing it through Darco Artist Partnerships and her own self-titled label. Her acoustic "No Secrets" tour ran rescheduled U.K. and European dates this April, while her upcoming summer schedule includes a festival stop on July 16 in Wolfsburg, Germany.

1975 Country Classic, Written by Hall of Fame Songwriter, Became a No. 1 Hit

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 6:27pm

In 1975, Johnny Rodriguez scored a major success with a romantic country ballad written by one of Nashville's most celebrated songwriters.

"Love Put a Song in My Heart" became a No. 1 hit on the country charts, further establishing Rodriguez as one of the most successful country artists of the 1970s.

The song was written by legendary songwriter Red Lane, a future member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame known for crafting emotionally rich country classics recorded by many of the genre's biggest stars.

With its warm melody and uplifting lyrics about the transformative power of love, "Love Put a Song in My Heart" perfectly matched Rodriguez's smooth vocal style.

At the time, Rodriguez was one of country music's fastest-rising stars. Blending traditional country sounds with hints of pop and Latin influences, he became one of the first major Mexican American artists to achieve widespread success in mainstream country music.

"I've always been interested in country music since I was about nine or ten years old," Rodriguez said in a 1974 interview. "I started singing and playing guitar, mainly the old Hank Williams songs. I just grew up with it."

His crossover appeal helped broaden the audience for country music during the decade while also making him one of the format’s most recognizable radio voices. "Love Put a Song in My Heart" arrived during a particularly successful stretch in Rodriguez's career, following earlier hits that helped define the smoother, radio-friendly country sound of the mid-1970s.

The song's emotional optimism and singalong melody made it especially popular with country audiences, helping push it all the way to the top of the charts. For Red Lane, the success of the track added to an extraordinary songwriting legacy that included hits recorded by artists across country music's biggest generations.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez continued building a catalog filled with enduring country standards and became one of the era's defining voices.

Nearly 50 years later, "Love Put a Song in My Heart" remains a beloved example of classic 1970s country music: warm, sincere and timelessly melodic.

1972 Rock Classic, Famously Resurging 41 Years Later, Became an Iconic Television Anthem

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 5:48pm

In 1972, Badfinger released a melodic rock song that would eventually become tied forever to one of television's most iconic endings.

More than four decades after its release, "Baby Blue" experienced a massive resurgence after its unforgettable use in the final moments of Breaking Bad.

Originally appearing on Badfinger's album Straight Up, the song blended power pop melodies with emotional lyrics and became one of the band's best-known recordings during the early 1970s.

At the time, Badfinger was already closely associated with Apple Records, the label founded by The Beatles. The group developed a reputation for emotionally rich songwriting and melodic rock arrangements, helping establish them as one of the defining acts of the power pop movement.

Written by band member Pete Ham, "Baby Blue" stood out for its soaring harmonies, bittersweet tone and memorable guitar work.

Although the song became a respected rock favorite over the years, its cultural profile exploded in 2013 when it was used during the final scene of Breaking Bad.

The song plays during the closing moments of the series finale as Walter White, played by Bryan Cranston, reflects on the destruction left behind by his criminal empire. The placement immediately became one of the most discussed music cues in television history.

"When [showrunner Vince Gilligan] said, 'I think this is the right song for the closing of the finale,' I didn’t really hear it,” Breaking Bad music supervisor Thomas Golubić told Rolling Stone. "I thought it was an odd little love song."

But all that changed when he saw the final product. "In came the dailies, with that wonderful crane shot moving over Walter White, and once we played the song, [we thought], 'Oh, I get it now.' This is a love-affair story of Walt and his love of science, and this was his greatest product – his greatest triumph as a chemist. It wasn’t about Walter White as a criminal or a murderer or an awful person. It was him ending on his own terms. It felt creatively right."

Following the episode's broadcast, streams and downloads of "Baby Blue" surged dramatically, introducing the song to an entirely new generation of listeners more than 40 years after its original release.

The pairing worked so well partly because the song's title and emotional atmosphere mirrored the themes of the finale itself. Fans and critics praised the moment for feeling both unexpected and strangely perfect.

"I only found out that day that they were going to use the song on Breaking Bad," Badfinger guitarist Joey Molland told Classic Rock. "So while I was surprised, I wasn’t stunned. The mix was different, as was the way they edited the whole thing, but I thought it was great."

For Badfinger, the renewed popularity offered a bittersweet revival. Despite their enormous musical influence, the band endured years of financial struggles and personal tragedy during and after their original success. Still, songs like "Baby Blue" continued to endure because of their timeless craftsmanship and emotional honesty.

Today, the track remains not only a classic 1970s rock song, but one of television’s most recognizable musical moments—proof that the right scene can completely reshape a song’s legacy decades later.

'Scary Stories' Director's New Demonic Horror Just Hit Theaters With a Critic Saying It Beats 'Mandalorian'

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 5:46pm

André Øvredal picked his moment.

The Norwegian horror director's new film Passenger opened in 2,500 theaters Friday, May 22, going head-to-head with The Mandalorian and Grogu on Memorial Day weekend. Box office trackers expect the demonic road-trip thriller to pull $9 million to $10 million across the four-day holiday.

What the Movie Is About

Passenger, written by Zachary Donohue and T.W. Burgess, follows a young couple, played by Jacob Scipio and Lou Llobell, who flee New York for life on the road in a souped-up van. Six weeks in, they witness a fatal one-car accident on a remote country road. A malevolent spirit, played by Joseph Lopez, latches on and refuses to let go. Oscar-winning actress Melissa Leo co-stars.

Critics Are Split, but One Says It Tops 'Mandalorian'

The R-rated film opened with a 44% on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics consensus calls it "a stylish ride weighed down by the litany of clichés it picks up along the way."

Critic Peter Sobczynski disagreed. He gave the film 3.5 out of 4 and wrote that Passenger "is far more entertaining than The Mandalorian and Grogu." Sobczynski singled out three setpieces: a parking-lot stalk, a sequence in the woods where the couple watches Roman Holiday on a projector, and a finale he compared to Italian giallo master Lucio Fulci.

The Director's Resume

Øvredal made Troll Hunter, The Autopsy of Jane Doe, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and 2023's The Last Voyage of the Demeter. Producers Walter Hamada and Gary Dauberman (The Nun, Annabelle) back the new film for Paramount Pictures.

Passenger runs 1 hour 34 minutes. It opens internationally this week in 49 markets, including Australia, Brazil, France, Italy, Mexico, Spain and the United Kingdom.

The Best Sports Film and Sequels Are Coming to Netflix in June 2026

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 5:41pm

The sports genre often tries to motivate audiences with what's possible and be full of heart. But many of them are good, not great. Rocky is number 56 on the American Film Institute's list of the best films. The full franchise is coming to Netflix this summer.

Where to Watch the 'Rocky' Movies

On June 1, all Rockymovies but Rocky II will be available on Netflix. The Creed trilogy will also be on the streaming platform.

The original movie won the Oscar for Best Picture, Best Director, and Film Editing. Stallone was nominated for Best Writing, which isn't surprising because the movie's lines have been referenced since its release.

The franchise will continue to grow beyond the movies. Prime Video will release a TV series called Delphi, set in the Creed universe. It will follow a group of young boxers training at an elite boxing academy.

Benji Santiago, Juan Castano, DemiĂĄn Bichir, AndrĂ© Holland, Andre Royo, Sofia Black-D’Elia, and Victoria Vourkoutiotis are cast as series regulars, according to Deadline. Santiago, 29, will portray Santi Torres, who is the little brother of a gifted brother. That gifted brother is Nico Torres (Castano).

The Rocky franchise is closely tied to Philadelphia, and that relationship is remembered with a Rocky Balboa statue on top of the "Rocky Steps" where the character ran. The new show will be tied to Los Angeles, where the Torres brothers were raised.

The franchise also relies on the bond between mentor and boxer. The new show continues that with Holland, 46, playing lead instructor Teddy ‘T-Bone’ Parker.

It's unclear when it will be released, but at least fans can brush up on the movies on Netflix starting in June.

’90s/2000s Punk Rock Icon Tells Near-Death Plane Crash Story in New Film

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 5:38pm

In June 1998, the world was introduced to the rocker who would become punk’s first superstar drummer. Coined by Rolling Stone, the moniker, of course, is referring to Blink-182's Travis Barker. But his rise to the top came with unimaginable trauma. It’s a story he’s finally telling in a new documentary film calledTravis Barker: Lounder Than Fear.

“This documentary started over 10 years ago," Barker revealed to Billboard, "and it’s been a wild, wild ride and I can’t wait to share it with the world.”

View this post on Instagram

Renowned for his versatility, high energy, technical prowess, and that signature ink, the musician also has an incredible survival story to tell. In 2008, Barker and Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein lived through a plane crash that killed the pilot and three others, per People. The traumatic experience forced him on a journey from catastrophe to comeback.

Directed by Michael Dwyer and Justin Krook, the 90-minute documentary film pulls back the curtain on “the spectacle of fame” to reveal “a complex man battling pain, grief and the thin line between survival and surrender.” Making its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival next month (tickets here), the film will hit Disney+ a month later on August 13.

Originally the drummer for The Aquabats, Barker got the opportunity of a lifetime when Blink-182 drummer Scott Raynor departed mid-tour and Barker was asked to fill in. According to iHeart, the electrifying musician learned the band’s entire 20-song set in less than an hour and was later asked to stay on the kit full-time. Obviously, he did.

With Barker, Blink-182 became the defining voice of a generation — their hits penetrating the airwaves nonstop in the late '90s and early 2000s. From "What's My Age Again?" and "I Miss You" to "All the Small Things" and their anthemic "Dammit," the band’s commercial success speaks for itself: a combined 15.3 million copies sold and 5 billion on-demand streams, per Billboard. They’ve also topped the Billboard 200 and scored eight hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

Now, with Travis Barker: Louder Than Fear, Barker may be adding another milestone to an already legendary career.

‘Fourth Wing’ Series Nearly Had a Plot Twist That Would Have Changed Everything — So What Stopped Rebecca Yarros?

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 5:34pm

Novels can go through various draft forms, with multiple ideas popping up for authors. That was the case for Rebecca Yarros as she started the Empyrean series. During The Iron Flame, a major event happens to Xaden that was supposed to happen to someone else.

That someone else? Violet! Yarros explained during the ApollyCon brunch that she wanted Violet to turn venin at first. However, her editor didn’t think it was a good idea, and she eventually listened to that editor, because, as she said, “why have an editor?"

This would have changed everything moving forward in the Empyrean series, which all started with Fourth Wing. The venin were quickly established as humans who channel magic directly from the earth. This helps to bypass the sacred bond between rider and dragon, and they’re also known as dark wielders.

View this post on Instagram

While dragon riders are viewed as good and pure, those who take directly from the ground are considered to have a corrupted soul, and it’s something that is irreversible. There are different stages of development of venin, but they are all distinguished by red rings around their eyes that can eventually turn completely red, and they have spiderwebbed veins all over their face. The more power they harness, the more they are driven by their hunger for it.

Yarros initially wanted Violet to be the one to harness the power from the ground, and fans know that this would have changed everything for all. After all, it would mean there was no turning back for Violet. Violet is already considered the strongest of the dragon riders and all the venin are obsessed with her, so how much power would she have harnessed if she crossed to the dark side?

Instead, her editor suggested that Xaden be the one to harness the power, and that story was eventually developed into one of sacrifice. As Violet’s power is weakening, Xaden takes the power from the earth to protect her. He doesn’t initially want to channel any more power, but his dragon is taken by the venin in Onyx Storm, and he opts for another act of sacrifice.

Now eyes are on how it all plays out for Xaden and Violet in the fourth and fifth books, but there’s still no word on when they will be published. Fourth Wing fans are excited for the TV series, which has just officially been picked up by Amazon.

Maybe one day, we’ll get an alternate universe story where Violet does turn venin. Yarros did share during the brunch, "That is what my head is like going down to alternate universe
I think about that often, like what evil Violet would look like."

10 Forgotten Costco Bakery Items Shoppers Secretly Wish Would Return

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 5:05pm

There’s something dangerous about getting attached to a Costco bakery item because there’s always a chance it’ll disappear without warning. One week you’re grabbing giant muffins or a massive chocolate cake during every Costco run, and the next it’s completely gone from the bakery section.

Over the years, Costco has discontinued some beloved bakery items without warning, and shoppers haven't forgotten about them. The old round croissants, giant muffin variety packs, seasonal cheesecakes and the legendary All-American Chocolate Cake are just a few bakery favorites shoppers still wish Costco would bring back.

😋😋SIGN UP to get delicious recipes, handy kitchen hacks & more in our daily Pop Kitchen newsletter🍳🍔

Some of these items disappeared years ago, but Costco shoppers still miss them. It’s easy to understand why. Costco’s bakery used to be filled with oversized, over-the-top treats that felt excessive in the best possible way.

More recently, Costco members have also complained that parts of the bakery feel smaller and different than they used to. Muffins changed size, some recipes were reformulated, and certain longtime favorites disappeared altogether. Costco’s bakery is still one of the best parts of shopping at the warehouse, but longtime shoppers know it’s changed quite a bit over the years.

These are the discontinued Costco bakery items shoppers still secretly wish would come back.

10 Discontinued Costco Bakery Items

See if you remember any of these throwback Costco bakery items that have since been discontinued.

1. All-American Chocolate Cake Dwarf Toys Custom Caricature Figurine Look Like You!
by u/ctsb in reddit.com

If there’s one discontinued Costco bakery item shoppers still haven’t gotten over, it’s the All-American Chocolate Cake.

This thing was huge, weighing close to seven pounds and covered in thick chocolate frosting and chocolate shavings. It wasn’t meant for a small get-together. This was the cake people brought to birthdays, parties, office celebrations and family gatherings.

Costco discontinued the cake around 2020. The warehouse has introduced other chocolate cakes since then, including newer fudge cakes that many shoppers say come close, but longtime Costco fans still argue the original was better.

Everything about the cake felt over the top. The layers were thick, the frosting was rich and a single slice felt enormous. It also somehow felt cheap for the amount of cake you were getting.

Years later, this is still one of the first bakery items shoppers mention when talking about discontinued Costco favorites.

2. Original Jumbo Muffins/Muffin Variety Packs

Costco’s muffins are still popular, but longtime shoppers will tell you the old ones were better. Before Costco changed the recipe and packaging in late 2024, the bakery sold giant muffins in mix-and-match variety packs. You could grab two six-packs with flavors like blueberry, chocolate, coffee cake, lemon poppy seed, banana nut and French toast muffins.

Then Costco changed everything.

The muffins became smaller, the flavors became more limited, and the old mix-and-match setup disappeared altogether. Many shoppers also complained the newer muffins tasted drier and less flavorful than the originals.

The old muffins were huge. One could easily count as breakfast, and maybe dessert too. They also froze surprisingly well, which made it easier to justify buying a giant pack at Costco.

For many shoppers, the muffin changes are still one of the most disappointing bakery changes Costco has made in years.

3. Round Croissants

Photo by Bloomberg on Getty Images

Before Costco switched to its current croissants, the bakery sold a round version that many shoppers still swear was better. Unlike the straight croissants sold today, the older ones were wider, rounder and perfect for breakfast sandwiches.

Costco replaced the round croissants around 2020 with a newer recipe made entirely with butter. Some shoppers prefer the newer version, but plenty of longtime Costco fans still miss the originals.

The old croissants felt huge compared to what you’d find at most grocery stores. They were flaky, buttery and sturdy enough to hold eggs, bacon, ham or turkey without falling apart halfway through eating them.

The newer croissants may be more traditional, but many Costco shoppers still argue the old round ones were better.

4. Boston Cream Pie

While Costco became famous for giant chocolate cakes and oversized muffins, shoppers still remember the bakery’s Boston Cream Pie.

The dessert featured layers of yellow cake filled with custard and topped with a thick layer of chocolate ganache. It was messy, rich and somehow disappeared faster than people expected once it got sliced into.

Unlike other Costco bakery items, the Boston Cream Pie felt a little more old-school. It didn’t rely on giant portions or excessive toppings to stand out. The combination of soft cake, cold custard and chocolate topping was simple, but it worked.

The dessert disappeared years ago, but many Costco shoppers still wish the warehouse would bring it back.

5. Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins

Before Costco switched to almond poppy seed muffins, the bakery sold a lemon version that many shoppers still miss. The lemon poppy seed muffins had a stronger citrus flavor than most grocery store versions and didn’t taste nearly as sweet as Costco’s chocolate or coffee cake muffins.

Like most Costco muffins back then, these things were enormous. You could easily split one in half and still feel full afterward.

The lemon flavor also made them feel different from the rest of Costco’s bakery case. While many of Costco's baked goods were rich and heavy, these felt a little lighter.

Many Costco shoppers never warmed up to the almond version after these disappeared.

6. Caramel Flan

Costco’s Caramel Flan never became as famous as other bakery favorites, but shoppers who bought it seemed to really love it. The dessert came in a large plastic tray, and it was covered in caramel sauce. It felt more like something you’d bring to a family party than a standard grocery store dessert.

Flan already has a loyal fanbase, but Costco’s version surprised a lot of people because it was genuinely good for a pre-made warehouse dessert. The texture was smooth and custardy without feeling rubbery, and the caramel sauce added sweetness without completely overpowering the flan itself.

Compared to many Costco bakery desserts, the flan felt a little more traditional and understated. That’s also part of why people liked it.

7. French Toast Muffins

https://www.tumblr.com/dragongoestojapan/190806159988/french-toast-muffin-from-costco-its-really-good?source=share

The French Toast Muffins felt like Costco took a cinnamon-sugar breakfast and turned it into a giant bakery muffin. They were topped with streusel, packed with cinnamon flavor and somehow managed to taste even sweeter than they looked.

These weren’t the kind of muffins you grabbed for a quick bite on the way out the door. They were dense, filling and the sort of bakery item that practically demanded coffee alongside it.

Unlike some of Costco’s fruit-flavored muffins, these were rich, sugary and much closer to coffee cake than a traditional muffin.

Some Costco shoppers still argue these were better than the bakery’s current muffin lineup.

8. Roasted Garlic Parmesan Bread Classic HCI video collection (all the way back to Englebart)
by u/Random in reddit.com

The Roasted Garlic Parmesan Bread felt made for pasta night, soup, salad kits, frozen lasagna and pretty much any comfort food dinner Costco shoppers were already buying.

Unlike standard garlic bread, Costco baked the garlic, butter, herbs and parmesan directly into the loaf instead of simply spreading it on top. The bread came out softer, richer and much less greasy than frozen garlic bread from the freezer aisle.

People used it for everything from sandwiches to ripping pieces off straight from the loaf while dinner was cooking.

Few discontinued Costco breads get mentioned as often as this one.

9. Half-Iced Shortbread Cookies View this post on Instagram

The Half-Iced Shortbread Cookies were much simpler than Costco’s giant cakes and cheesecakes, but many shoppers still miss them. The cookies usually showed up around Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day and came dipped halfway in chocolate or vanilla icing.

The shortbread texture was firmer and more buttery than most grocery store sugar cookies, which made them feel less artificial than a lot of seasonal bakery desserts. And, because only half of the cookie was iced, they also weren’t overwhelmingly sweet.

These felt more like something you’d eat alongside coffee than a giant Costco dessert you needed to cut into slices.

Costco eventually swapped them out for seasonal sugar cookies, but a lot of shoppers still prefer the old shortbread version.

10. Country French Bread

Costco shoppers bought the Kirkland Signature Country French Bread for all kinds of reasons. People turned it into garlic bread, sandwiches, French toast or just ate slices warm with butter alongside dinner.

The bread came in a two-pack and had a softer texture than many grocery store French breads. It was crusty without being so hard that it shredded the roof of your mouth the second you bit into it.

A lot of shoppers also liked that the loaves froze well, especially because Costco sold so much bread at once. Between the size, price and versatility, it became a bakery staple that people automatically grabbed during Costco runs.

Then the bread disappeared from many warehouses in 2024. Costco never made a huge announcement about it, but shoppers started realizing the loaves weren’t getting restocked anymore.

The 2025 "Shrinkflation" Scandal: What Happened to the Bakery?

Costco’s bakery has always been known for giant muffins, oversized cakes and massive pastry packs. But in late 2024 and throughout 2025, many shoppers started complaining that the bakery suddenly felt smaller and less exciting than it used to.

The biggest backlash was around Costco’s muffins. For years, shoppers could buy two mix-and-match six-packs of oversized muffins for $9.99. Costco eventually replaced them with smaller eight-count packs sold individually for $6.99. Many shoppers argued the newer muffins tasted drier, felt less filling and cost more overall for less product.

That’s when shoppers really started throwing around the word “shrinkflation.”

The muffin controversy also sparked bigger conversations about Costco’s bakery changing overall. Shoppers started noticing disappearing flavors, smaller portions, fewer mix-and-match options and recipes that didn’t feel quite the same anymore.

Can You Still Order Discontinued Items?

Usually, no. Once Costco fully discontinues a bakery item, it normally disappears from warehouses entirely. Unlike some grocery store bakeries, Costco doesn’t typically keep old recipes available for custom orders or special requests.

That said, Costco does occasionally bring back older bakery favorites in slightly different forms. The newer Chocolate Fudge Cake, for example, sparked a lot of comparisons to the discontinued All-American Chocolate Cake because the desserts looked and tasted fairly similar to many shoppers.

Seasonal bakery items can also return after disappearing for a year or two, especially around holidays and fall bakery rotations. And while Costco’s bakery selection tends to stay fairly consistent nationwide, some warehouses occasionally test or carry limited-time bakery items that never fully roll out everywhere.

For now, though, most discontinued Costco bakery items remain exactly that: discontinued. And that's part of why shoppers still talk about them years later.

People with intuitivegenius process information quickly and can synthesize complex situations with remarkable speed. Instead of relying solely on logical reasoning, their subconscious is alert and active, eager to constantly connect various data points. According to birth-date numerology, four birth dates are associated with this rare cognitive gift. Some may describe it as spiritual, while others see it as a blend of wisdom and luck. Regardless of interpretation, individuals born on the following dates are likely to possess a sharp inner knowing that goes beyond the ordinary.

The 4 Birth Dates in Numerology Blessed With Intuitive Genius

Check for your birth date. Disregard birth months.

Not only can birth date 14 think fast and solve problems on their feet, but they also process information in an integrated manner with ease.

Through pattern recognition, they often demonstrate their greatest examples of intuitive genius. By reading between the lines, observing carefully, and using their natural gifts, they have an uncanny, often surprising ability to understand what is happening before others finish expressing their concerns.

1958 Hit Film Was Just Ranked the 'Most Universally Beloved Thriller' of All Time

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 4:56pm

In general, movie audiences can't help but be drawn to thrillers, with their twisty, often melodramatic plots and heart-pounding moments. In April 2026, the publication Collider released a ranking of the "10 most universally beloved thrillers of all time." The list featured popular suspenseful movies like Se7en from 1995, 2019's Parasite, 1975'sJaws, The Silence of the Lambs from 1991, and 1960's Psycho.

According to Collider, Alfred Hitchcock's 1958 masterpiece, Vertigo, starring Jimmy Stewart and Kim Novak, deserves the title of the most beloved film from the thriller genre ever made. The publication complimented the movie, which has a score of 93 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, for managing to be gripping throughout its entire two-hour and eight-minute run time.

Kim Novak Shared She Couldn't Help But Identify With Her 'Vertigo' Character

During a 1996 interview with the TODAY show, Novak, who played Judy Barton aka Madeleine Elster, discussed her time filming Vertigo. Novak, now 93, shared that she was immediately interested in the Vertigo script because of the dual nature of her iconic role. She also explained that she empathized with her complex character's motivations and tragic ending.

"Of course, I fell in love with those two roles because it was like an opportunity to voice a lot of myself in the characters. Because, well, so much of [it is] a woman who's calling out to be loved and accepted for herself, and you know, being in the Hollywood system and suddenly, they take you, and they think you have something special, and then they want to change everything special about you," said the actress during the TODAY show interview.

In addition, she said she believed the film has a timeless quality because of Scottie's obsessive relationship with Madeleine, and later Judy. According to Novak, her character simply wanted "to be loved for [herself]" but was willing to conform to what Scottie most desired.

"Sometimes you have to do that. You have to make changes and look different. And everything else. I think it talks to all of us today. I think that's why an audience will always appreciate it," said Novak during the 1996 interview. "It deals with psychosis and neurosis and compulsive obsessions, and those things are so powerful. And they do take charge of our lives."
