Plenty of people come up with random business ideas while knocking back a few drinks with pals, but most of the time those plans don’t end up turning into millions of dollars. Gary Dahl, however, was not plenty of people…and the Pet Rock wasn’t just any business idea.

It was 1975 when Dahl, a California-based advertising exec, was drinking at a bar with his friends. At some point, Dahl mentioned that he thought most pets were too much trouble. Dogs, cats, birds and even fish…as far as Dahl was concerned, animals were expensive, messy and loud. That’s why he had a pet rock, he joked: It was cheap, easy to care for, and had a pleasant personality.

Dahl’s drinking buddies got a kick out of the idea, so the ad man spent the next couple of weeks writing and illustrating the Pet Rock Training Manual, which described how to train and take care of a pet rock:

“Your PET ROCK will be a devoted friend and companion for many years to come,” the booklet stated, per ABC News. “Rocks enjoy a rather long life span so the two of you will never have to part — at least not on your PET ROCK’s account. Once you have transcended the awkward training stage your rock will mature into a faithful, obedient, loving pet with but one purpose in life — to be at your side when you want it to, and to go lie down when you don’t.”

Dahl went to a builder’s supply store and bought a Rosarita Beach Stone for a penny, and packed it in excelsior in a box that looked like a pet carrying case, complete with air holes. Instead of trying to drum up interest from the highly competitive toy industry, Dahl introduced the Pet Rock at the August gift show in San Francisco with a goal of making at least one dollar in profit for every rock he sold.

The strategy worked: Neiman-Marcus ordered 500 Pet Rocks. Soon after that, Newsweek ran a story about the novelty item. By the end of October, Dahl found himself shipping ten thousand Pet Rocks every day, according to the Encyclopedia of POP Culture by Jane and Michael Stern. He was even invited on The Tonight Show twice. Unsurprisingly, the Pet Rock was one of the bestselling novelty items that holiday season, and within a few months, Dahl sold a million rocks for $3.95 apiece.

Of course, as is the case with most fads, the Pet Rock wasn’t a must-have item for very long. But Dahl made enough money to quit his advertising job. Reflecting on his success in an interview with the Oakland Tribune, Dahl said, “I packaged a sense of humor for a very bored public.”

Dahl started his own novelty company, Rock Bottom Productions, but his follow-up ideas didn’t really take off, according to Mental Floss. Among them: the Official Sand Breeding Kit for “growing sand” and Canned Earthquake, a coffee can with a wind-up mechanism that made it jump around on a table. Dahl went on to buy and renovate a bar, though he eventually went back to advertising.

Stanley Tucci has shared that while he was filming for his brand new action-comedy film Masterplan, a certain restaurant in the area of the film set was so good that he couldn’t help but become a regular. The Devil Wears Prada actor chatted with PEOPLE about the incredible eats and how easy it was to find great food.

Masterplan took Stanley to different parts of the world, including to Italy where the star sauntered around Rome and by the idyllic Lake Como. But it’s a little restaurant in Paris that caught Stanley’s attention – more specifically, the attention of his stomach.

The star shared: “This little restaurant, called Camille, in Paris, that was right near my hotel. I ate there almost every day because I didn’t have a lot of time when I was there, so I could walk there and it was easy.”

Stanley went on to describe the cuisine available at the restaurant as “absolutely amazing”, which is high praise considering that Stanley is a food connoisseur. Over the years Stanley has hosted a number of programs intertwining his love for travel and dining such as Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy and Tucci in Italy. He’s also previously written a memoir which delves into his life and culinary knowledge simultaneously, titled Taste: My Life Through Food.

Stanley’s latest film Masterplan follows the main character of Roger – played by none other than Stanley himself. The film’s synopsis describes the man as a “master thief” who boldly goes on to “enlist[s] two strangers for a Louvre heist targeting the Mona Lisa, then reveals they’re his children and siblings who must cooperate to pull off history’s greatest art theft.”

The film came out on October 16 and is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.

What does it mean to be resilient? According to the American Psychological Association,  resilience is “the process and outcome of successfully adapting to difficult or challenging life experiences, especially through mental, emotional, and behavioral flexibility and adjustment to external and internal demands.”

In layman’s terms, resilience can be broadly defined as the ability to navigate tough circumstances without losing your footing. For some, resilience is innate, but for others, resilience has to be learned and honed throughout life. April

April is considered highly resilient because this birth month is ruled by action-packed Aries and tenacious Taurus. Those born in April don’t easily give up. They’re fiercely driven to succeed, which is amplified by Taurus’ stubbornness and determination. December

July

On the one hand, Gemini imparts adaptability and mental flexibility while Cancer bestows emotional intelligence and intuition to June. On the other hand, June also struggles with Gemini’s anxiousness and Cancer’s moodiness, so even small problems can send June into a mental and emotional tailspin. It might be helpful for those born during this month to work on grounding techniques to become more resilient over time.

I love eating out like any other person, but I’d almost always rather stay in and have a cozy night at home with my husband. Still, I don’t always feel like cooking, so I appreciate the odd occasion when I can take a break from the prep work and cleanup, with a subscription box like Wildgrain.

A few years ago, I heard about Wildgrain, a viral bakery subscription box that has gained a loyal following for its ready-to-bake fresh bread, pastries and pastas. In the past, I’d tried a few items from them, but my experience with the company was pretty much limited to their famous croissants and a loaf or two of the brand’s bread.

After Wildgrain popped up repeatedly in my social media feeds, it got me wondering what all the fuss is about and whether it’s really worth signing up for a subscription. So I did just that and trialed the website for three months to find out for myself.

Over the course of three months, I carefully curated my Wildgrain box to include a variety of items from the brand’s ever-expanding collection. Then I embarked on the most fun part of the experiment: trying everything.

Since every item from Wildgrain is ready to bake, it was a nice break from cooking, and I found a bunch of items that I’m now obsessed with. Below, you’ll find my honest review of the subscription service, plus a few items you’re better off skipping while curating your own box.

My review: When I first tasted this delightful croissant, I was instantly transported to my favorite city in the world: Paris. I’ve always loved a pain au chocolat but I prefer my chocolate heavy-handed, so this croissant tasted even better than the ones I’ve had in Paris. It has the perfect amount of chocolate and the croissant is flaky, soft and crispy all at once. I’ve been ordering them on repeat the last few months!

2. Cheese and Pepperoni Pizza Buns (4-Pack), $14

How Wildgrain describes them: “Our Cheese Pizza Buns are soft, golden rolls filled with gooey mozzarella, zesty pizza sauce, and savory spices—a perfect bite-sized pizza treat.” / “Soft, golden rolls packed with the classic flavors of your favorite pizza—melty mozzarella, zesty pepperoni, rich pizza sauce, and a touch of savory spice, all wrapped in a pillowy dough.”

My review: My husband and I don’t often agree on pizza since he prefers thin crust and I love a thick crust. But when we sunk our teeth into these bite-size pizza buns, we both were instantly obsessed. The bread and cheese are incredibly fresh and soft, for starters. Aside from being delicious, the pizza buns didn’t leave us feeling gross the same way we have in the past when we’ve tried other frozen pizza bites.

3. Garlic Butter Demi Baguette (2-Pack), $10

How Wildgrain describes it: “Our Garlic Butter Demi Baguette is baked golden and crisp, then generously filled with a rich garlic & herb butter spread. Soft on the inside with just the right crunch on the outside, they are perfect as a side to your favorite dishes and soups, or as a simple yet satisfying appetizer.”

My review: My husband and I are suckers for good baguettes and garlic, so when we saw that Wildgrain had combined two of our favorite things, we had to add this one to our monthly box. From the minute we popped it in the oven, the aroma of garlic wafted through the air in the most delicious way. We loved how the garlic spread made the bread soft on the inside (and perfectly seasoned), while the outside was crunchy. Also, we loved that it was cut in half, which made it convenient to split. It’s become a staple in our household ever since.

4. Potato Gnocchi (12 oz), $8

How Wildgrain describes it: “The perfect Gnocchi is made with potatoes, durum flour, and water. The result is a plump, pillowy texture with a mild, delicate flavor. They perfectly pair with your rich & hearty sauces.”

My review: I’m a harsh critic of gnocchi, and it takes a lot to impress me. But Wildgrain’s potato gnocchi surpasses any other frozen or packaged gnocchi I’ve had before. It’s still not as melt-in-your-mouth as gnocchi you’d order at an Italian restaurant, but it’s pretty great. The large gnocchi pieces are the perfect mix of firm-meets-soft and they’re very filling. They also don’t fall apart while you’re cooking them, like many store-bought brands.

5. Cheese Tortellini, $10

How Wildgrain describes it: “We start with semolina and slowly add the eggs. Then we roll the pasta nice and thin, trimming it to shape. We make sure the Tortellini are plump. Their unique shape and texture allow the delicate cheese filling to come through.”

My review: My husband and I were both fond of the cheese tortellini. It’s soft but still has a good bite to it. The cheesy flavor also isn’t overwhelming, so it paired well with Wildgrain’s Artisan Three Cheese Sauce. The package is just enough to serve two people.

6. Artisan Three Cheese Sauce, $10

How Wildgrain describes it: “Made with real cheddar, parmesan, and gruyere, this artisan sauce is rich, velvety, and full of flavor.”

My review: This cheese sauce is pretty irresistible. It’s rich, creamy and packed with cheesy flavor. My husband and I coated Wildgrain tortellini in this sauce and kept going back for more. My one criticism of the sauce is its packaging. When you take it directly out of the freezer, it’s hard to drop the frozen block of sauce into a frying pan to cook it. Next time, I plan on defrosting it for a bit to make it easier. Still, it was worth the effort.

7. Slow-Fermented Artisanal Pita (4-Pack), $8

How Wildgrain describes it: “Our pita breads are soft, fluffy & full of flavor. Made in a traditional pita oven from the Middle East, with flours from Maine and Vermont, a touch of olive oil, and a pinch of salt, they are the ideal canvas for sandwiches, dips, or simply enjoyed on their own.”

My review: In my experience, a lot of store-bought pita bread is too thin and flimsy to make a proper sandwich. But this one has just the right amount of thickness. It cooks in less than 10 minutes and cools quickly so you don’t burn yourself. My husband and I loved how soft it was but also appreciated the bit of crunch at the edges and on the bottom.

8. New York Everything Bagels and Plain Bagels (4-Pack), $10

How Wildgrain describes them: “Soft, chewy, and perfectly golden – our plain bagels are a timeless classic. Delicious on their own or the perfect canvas for your favorite spreads, toppings, or breakfast sandwiches.” / “Bold, savory, and irresistibly satisfying – our Everything Bagels are a flavor-packed classic. Topped with a perfect blend of everything bagel seasoning, they’re delicious on their own or the ultimate base for your favorite spreads or breakfast sandwiches.”

My review: The bagels heat up quickly in the microwave (in less than one minute) and are precut, which makes it easier to add cream cheese or other spreads. My husband and I enjoyed both the plain and everything varieties and loved that they’re so soft. A lot of frozen bagels tend to be very tough, but these ones were easy to bite into, which is just the way we like them. They’re slightly smaller than the bagels we usually get from our favorite bagel place, but we’d definitely order them again, especially since the bottoms were soft and not burnt like many bagels.

9. Fresh Rigatoni, $10

How Wildgrain describes it: “Made with doppio zero flour & semolina, Rigatoni are perfect for chunky sauces with their ridges and wide center. We use traditional bronze dies to create a rough, porous surface that ensures the sauce is perfectly cradled.”

My review: Similar to Wildgrain’s other pastas, the rigatoni tastes much fresher than boxed pastas. I’ve often found that many boxed rigatoni pastas are rubbery and tough, but this one managed to maintain the perfect balance of firmness and softness. My husband and I both went back for seconds since it was so good.

10. Maple Belgium Waffle (6-Pack), $12

How Wildgrain describes it: “Our Artisanal Maple Waffles are made with natural maple syrup, real butter, and Belgian pearl sugar for a light, sweet crunch. Instead of batter, we use dough to deliver a delicious one-of-a-kind brioche-like texture.”

My review: I loved how quickly these baked (four to six minutes in the oven or two minutes in the toaster) and the wonderful aroma of maple that filled my kitchen while they were cooking. The waffles are soft on the inside, yet crispy on the edges, and they have the perfect amount of flavor. The suggested serving size is one mini waffle, but you’ll likely find it hard to stick to just one.

3 Wildgrain Items I’d Skip 1. Slow-Fermented New York Cheese Pizza, $12

How Wildgrain describes it: “Each Wildgrain pizza is pulled fresh from a real stone oven. It is made with simple ingredients, and a blend of organic milled flour, yielding a distinctly bubbly crust.”

My review: The pizza cooks in under 10 minutes, which is a major plus for busy nights. It has a nice fresh taste and the crust is great. But my husband and I both agreed that the pizza had too much cheese on it for such a thin crust, and this made it a bit soggy. Still, we did like the taste of the cheese.

2. Sourdough Grilled Cheese Sandwich (2-Pack), $12

How Wildgrain describes it: “Our Grilled Cheese Sandwich boasts a perfectly toasted, golden-brown crust that gives a warm, satisfying crunch. Inside, layers of rich, extra-sharp cheddar and creamy mozzarella melt together into pure, gooey perfection.”

My review: I love grilled cheese, so I had high expectations for this one, but it didn’t meet the same bar that the rest of the Wildgrain items I tried did. We cooked it for the suggested amount of time, but the bread was overly crunchy and too hard for our liking. The cheese itself was OK, but lacked the kick that the cheese in the pizza buns had.

3. Ham & Cheese Croissants (4-Pack), $16

How Wildgrain describes it: “Our Ham & Cheese Croissants features a golden, flaky exterior that crunches satisfyingly with each bite. With a hearty filling of rich, Berkshire ham & melted Emmental cheese. Ideal for a delicious breakfast or a quick lunch—simply heat and enjoy!”

My review: While testing these ham and cheese croissants, my husband and I enjoyed the flaky consistency and the light cheesy taste. However, we weren’t impressed with the ham since it was a bit tough. We do love the Wildgrain Croissants, though, and could see ourselves making our own ham and cheese croissants out of those.

Is Wildgrain Worth It?

As a self-proclaimed bargain hunter, I always shop at my local grocery store and seek out sales and coupons. For this reason, I don’t often consider food subscription services since they tend to be pricier than what I like to spend on groceries. However, after trying Wildgrain for three months, I’m now more open to the idea of a food subscription service.

Hollywood star George Clooney surprised 14 of his closest friends with $1 million each in cash in 2013, repaying the people who supported him before he became a successful actor. 

The actor revealed that he had once slept on their couches and borrowed money from them when he was struggling to make ends meet.

The surprise gift came after Gravity, the 2013 science-fiction film starring Clooney and Sandra Bullock, became a major hit. Instead of keeping all the money he earned, Clooney decided to share a large part of his success with the friends who had helped him over the years.

In a November 2020 interview with GQ, Clooney explained why he wanted to reward the people who had stood by him for about 35 years.

“I’ve slept on their couches when I was broke. They loaned me money when I was broke. They helped me when I needed help over the years. And I’ve helped them over the years.”

The actor’s longtime friend and business partner, Rande Gerber, first shared details of the unusual dinner party during a 2017 appearance on MSNBC. Clooney later told his side of the story in the GQ interview.

According to Gerber, the gathering took place on September 27, 2013. Clooney invited the group, known among themselves as “The Boys” or “The Guys,” to his home for dinner. Each friend found a suitcase filled with $1 million in cash waiting at the table.

The 14 gifts added up to $14 million.

Clooney said his friends had played an important role in his life long before he became one of Hollywood’s best-known stars. They had offered him places to stay, lent him money, and helped him through difficult times.

By the time of the dinner, Clooney had earned a major financial boost from Gravity. The film’s payment deal gave him a share of its earnings instead of a larger upfront payment because its producers did not expect it to perform well.

“Because they didn’t want to pay us, they gave us percentages of the movie, ’cause they thought it was gonna be a flop, and that ended up being a very good deal,” Clooney told GQ.

The unexpected success gave him the chance to do something meaningful for the people who had helped him when he had little money.

Clooney said he thought about what his friends had made possible in his life. He described showing them a map of the places he had visited and the things he had experienced because of their support.

“I just held up a map and I just pointed to all the places I got to go in the world and all the things I’ve gotten to see because of them. And I said, ‘How do you repay people like that?’”

He then offered his own answer: “Oh, well: How about a million bucks?”

Clooney had also thought about what might happen if he died before he could give anything back. As he explained to GQ, his friends were already so important to him that he had considered including them in his will.

“We’re all really close, and I just thought basically if I get hit by a bus, they’re all in the will. So why the [explicit] am I waiting to get hit by a bus?”

Rather than wait until later in life, he decided to give the money to his friends while they could enjoy it together.

The surprise was even bigger than the cash-filled suitcases. Gerber recalled that Clooney also paid the taxes on the gifts, allowing his friends to keep the full $1 million each.

During the dinner, Clooney reportedly told the group that he knew some of them had faced financial problems and that others were still struggling. He wanted them to have fewer worries about their families and daily expenses.

“I know we’ve all been through some hard times, some of you are still going through it. You don’t have to worry about your kids, you don’t have to worry about school, you don’t have to worry about paying your mortgage.”

Gerber said the men were shocked when they opened the suitcases and saw the money. He also explained that not every person in the group was wealthy, making the gift especially meaningful for those who needed financial help.

Gerber, who was already financially successful, initially tried to refuse the money. However, Clooney insisted that he accept it. Gerber later donated his $1 million to charity.

For Gerber, the gift showed the kind of person Clooney was outside his work as an actor and filmmaker. He said the gesture “pretty much sums up who George is.”

The story also included an interesting detail about Clooney’s personal life. On Sept. 27, 2014, exactly one year after the dinner, he married human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, now known as Amal Clooney.

At the time of the 2013 dinner, Clooney had already met Amal but had not yet started a family with her. He said his longtime friends were among the most important people in his life.

Clooney’s financial success later grew through other business ventures. In 2017, he and Gerber sold Casamigos, the tequila company they started with another friend, to beverage company Diageo in a deal reported to be worth up to $1 billion.

Josh Duhamel didn’t expect to say goodbye to Staten Kirkland so soon.

The actor is finally speaking out on the cancellation of Ransom Canyon, and said he was surprised Netflix canceled the series after two seasons, especially because he believed the show’s strong performance meant it was safe.

“I was pretty surprised, if I’m being honest,” Duhamel told Us Weekly in an article shared Monday, October 19. He said the series had been No. 1 for almost two weeks and that viewers seemed to connect with it.

Netflix decided not to move forward with a third season in September, less than two months after Season 2 premiered in July.

“I was a little upset with Netflix for not giving the audience another season, because people really did love the show … but that’s the business,” the actor said. But he acknowledged that streaming services make their own decisions about which shows continue. He added, “I just feel bad for the fans” who were invested in the story.

Based on Jodi Thomas’ book series, Ransom Canyon follows the residents of a small Texas town, including Duhamel’s rancher Staten and Minka Kelly’s Quinn O’Grady. Their romance was a central part of the drama, but the second season’s finale wasn’t meant to be the end of their story.

Showrunner April Blair said a potential third season would have explored the couple’s life together and the challenges that come with building a relationship.

Duhamel sounds open to returning to the Western world in another project. He said he felt comfortable playing Staten because he already enjoyed a ranch-inspired lifestyle away from work. The actor also told the outlet there are “a couple of things in the works” that could involve similar roles, though he wasn’t ready to share details.

He knows what he wants for his next role, though. “But I’d much rather play a cowboy than a defense attorney.”

“Come Sail Away” landed at No. 16 on Beatintel’s Top 100 Classic Rock Songs of All Time, updated in September 2026, with the publication praising its transformation into “a prog-rock spaceship.”

With October bringing Halloween, spooky stories, and fascination with the unexplained, the song’s unexpected journey into outer space feels especially timely.

Styx co-founder Dennis DeYoung wrote and sang “Come Sail Away,” which begins with a reflective piano melody before building into a soaring rock finale. But the song’s most surprising turn comes in its lyrics, when what initially sounds like a spiritual journey becomes a trip aboard a starship.

That unexpected twist helped make the song one of Styx’s signature anthems and gave classic rock one of its most memorable journeys into the unknown.

Released as the lead single from Styx’s album The Grand Illusion in August 1977, the song reached No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in January 1978. Nearly five decades later, its mix of heartfelt longing, theatrical storytelling, and arena-rock grandeur still captivates listeners.

The Starship Twist Wasn’t Entirely Dennis DeYoung’s Idea

“Come Sail Away” might sound like a single, fully formed vision, but the band developed its cosmic finale as they worked on the song. DeYoung initially imagined a sailing vessel as a metaphor for escaping disappointment and reaching a better place. Styx guitarist James “JY” Young encouraged him to take that idea further by turning the ship into a starship.

“The aliens were JY’s idea,” DeYoung told Classic Rock in an interview republished by Louder. “He goes: ‘What if they were aliens?’ He liked all that stuff.”

DeYoung, however, had a different image in mind.

“They’re not aliens. I said ‘starship.’ I was thinking Captain Kirk,” he said.

That distinction helps explain the song’s enduring appeal. Its narrator initially describes angels appearing overhead, imagery that could suggest a spiritual awakening. But by the final section, the journey becomes decidedly more science-fiction inspired, as the narrator and his companions climb aboard a starship and head into the sky.

The result is a song that begins like a reflective power ballad and ends like the soundtrack to an intergalactic escape.

The Song Was Inspired by a Desire to Get Somewhere Better

Although its starship ending gives “Come Sail Away” its science-fiction flavor, the original inspiration was much more personal.

In April 1977, Styx traveled to Hawaii to perform at the Crater Festival, sometimes described as Hawaii’s Woodstock. While looking out at boats on the water, DeYoung began thinking about sailing as a way to reach a better place.

“I started thinking about sailing vessels, something that can take you away to the place in which you ultimately want to be,” he recalled in Classic Rock. He imagined reaching a destination by boat, or even “a gathering of angels appearing above your head, sweeping you into the heavens.”

The idea resonated with the band’s circumstances. Styx had already released six albums, but the musicians were still spending much of their time opening for bigger acts.

“We should have been ahead of a plethora of bands–Queen, Kansas, we came before them all,” DeYoung said. “But we were always opening for people–Aerosmith, Kiss, ZZ Top. Always the bridesmaids.”

In that light, the song’s desire to leave one world behind for another carried a meaning beyond its celestial imagery. It reflected the hope of finally breaking through to the success Styx had been chasing.

‘Come Sail Away’ Arrived During a Big Year for Science Fiction

The song’s extraterrestrial turn also landed at an opportune cultural moment. Styx released The Grand Illusion in July 1977, the same year that Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind helped make outer space a major part of popular entertainment.

The song’s references to angels, the heavens, and a starship fit neatly into that era’s fascination with the unknown. But “Come Sail Away” was not simply a science-fiction novelty. Its emotional opening and enormous musical payoff gave it broader appeal, reaching listeners with no particular interest in aliens or space travel.

That balance between heartfelt longing and extravagant rock spectacle is what makes the song especially effective: The ending is unexpected, but the journey feels earned.

And while the track isn’t a Halloween song in the traditional sense, its otherworldly finale makes it an intriguing addition to an October playlist. The song offers a different kind of spooky-season experience—not a ghost story, but a tale of leaving the familiar world behind and venturing into the unknown.

The Hit Helped Styx Become Arena-Rock Headliners

“Come Sail Away” became the lead single from The Grand Illusion, Styx’s seventh studio album. After its August 1977 release, the track climbed the charts and peaked at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 the following January.

Its success helped move the band beyond its long stretch as an opening act and toward the arena-rock status it had been seeking. DeYoung later described the shift in characteristically vivid terms.

“We stopped being the bridesmaid and became the bride,” he told Classic Rock.

The song’s life didn’t end with its initial chart run, either. It became a staple of classic-rock radio and found new audiences through film and television, including Freaks and Geeks and South Park. The latter helped introduce the song to a younger generation through a memorable comedic performance by Eric Cartman.

DeYoung initially worried that South Park might make fun of the band, but he eventually agreed to let the show’s creators use the song. Looking back, he called the decision the “best decision I ever made.”

That second life helped cement “Come Sail Away” as more than a chart hit. Its instantly recognizable opening and dramatic build have made it a favorite across generations.

Why ‘Come Sail Away’ Still Feels Like a Journey Into the Unknown

Part of the fun of “Come Sail Away” is that listeners can hear it in different ways. Its opening can feel hopeful and almost spiritual, while the lyrics about angels and a starship invite a more fantastical interpretation. The song ultimately leaves room for both readings.

The musical transformation matters as much as the story. DeYoung’s piano-led introduction gradually gives way to pounding drums, electric guitars, and a climactic sing-along, turning a song about escape into a full-scale arena anthem.

That dramatic evolution is part of what Beatintel highlighted in its recent classic-rock ranking. The publication described the song as a piano ballad that becomes a “prog-rock spaceship,” capturing the unusual journey that distinguishes it from more conventional rock anthems.

For Styx, the journey proved transformative in real life, too. A song that began with a simple image of sailing toward something better helped carry the band to a new level of success and gave classic rock one of its most unforgettable trips into the unknown.

The funds went toward helping Cowan and his wife get into their first home, but even then, he continued to hit roadblocks trying to secure a stable job.

That’s when the story took an interesting turn for both of them, as the philanthropist says his life was changed just as much as Cowan’s after taking an unexpected leap of faith and hiring the man he had just blessed to join his own personal team. “At their home closing, I surprised him with an offer to come work with me full-time,” he shared. Now, “he helps review nominations, talks with families, and helps us find other people who need support. It’s honestly crazy to think that someone who originally came into my life needing help is now helping me change other people’s lives.”

This impactful work is something Liljenquist doesn’t take lightly. “I think that’s something people don’t always understand about what I do. Yes, I’ve been fortunate enough to help change people’s circumstances, but those people have changed my life just as much, if not more.”

Chronically ill as a kid, Liljenquist knows firsthand the financial hardships that can come with life’s pressures. “A lot of people see the videos and the millions of followers, but they don’t know much about what I’ve gone through to get here. I dealt with serious health challenges throughout my childhood, and those experiences shaped the way I see people who are struggling,” he expressed.

While monetary donations largely lean on the support and generosity of caring strangers via GoFundMe campaigns, Liljenquist serves as a beacon of hope. A proud Christian, his angle is not self-serving; instead, he insists it’s all for the glory of God.

Here on earth, he says he’s trying to fill big shoes, too—those of his late grandfather’s, to be exact, whom he didn’t even learn was a chronic do-gooder until after his death. Still, it’s something he pulls inspiration from for his own life, in addition to modeling his purpose after the ultimate servant, Jesus Christ.

Marie escorts Ryan on a carefully curated tour of Copenhagen and pulls out all the stops to create hygge at the inn, though both efforts end in some festive fiasco. Despite the mishaps the two forge a connection that may be more than just inn-keeper and tourist. When Ryan Miller the journalist arrives they realize their mistake, sending Marie into overdrive to ensure he experiences the perfect Danish Christmas. In the process, Marie learns that warmth, connection – and, possibly, romance – happen naturally and can’t be created.

grow closer. Keegan and Boo soon discover the joys of unplugging and spending quality time with their grandparents, who also come around and embrace the experiment after begrudgingly agreeing. With every lead exhausted, Sally is forced to admit the videos may be gone forever. As the fate of the tapes is in flux, the family learns the importance of cherishing old memories and creating new ones.

A Season of Promises

Novalee Baltierra is growing up fast—and the 11-year-old is already using her writing to explore a difficult subject.

Her mom and dad, Teen Mom stars Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra, shared a video on Instagram of Nova reading a poem about Jane Doe on Sunday, October 18, the anonymous woman at the center of a civil lawsuit involving seven former Cornell University fraternity members.

In the clip, Nova reads “Jane Doe’s Bows,” a poem inspired by a conversation she had with her dad about the Cornell case. The video shows a compilation of clips of Nova and her siblings, with her voice reading the poem with a seriousness that feels striking for someone her age. Catelynn called the poem “soo powerful and moving” and wrote, “Proud of her voice!”

Nova’s poem reflects on how girls are taught to take precautions as they grow up. She writes, “Bows were placed in her hair,” before describing the warnings girls hear as they get older: “Never get drunk. Never stumble.”

The poem’s closing thought turns those lessons into a broader point about how the responsibility for safety is often placed on girls. “We teach girls to run, to fight, to say no.”

Tyler also shared the video and explained how the poem came about. He said Nova had seen a news story about Jane Doe, prompting him to have what he described as a “long, intense, but necessary conversation” with her. He thought the discussion was over until she asked to read him her poem. Tyler said he was moved by her ability to understand a complex situation and turn it into art, adding, “I’m SO proud of this girl!”

Jane Doe’s civil complaint alleges that seven members of Cornell University’s Chi Phi fraternity drugged and sexually assaulted her at a party in 2024. The men have denied the allegations, and no criminal charges have been filed as of recent reporting.

As for the couple, they first appeared on MTV’s 16 and Pregnant, where their decision to place their firstborn daughter, Carly, for adoption in 2009 was documented. They later continued their story on Teen Mom and welcomed three more daughters: Novalee, Vaeda, 7, and Rya, 5.

Ransom Canyon star Josh Duhamel has opened up about how his soap opera past was a sink-or-swim scenario that ultimately defined his acting career.

Duhamel recently was interviewed by People, where he reflected on his time as Leo du Pres on the ABC soap opera All My Children from 1999 until his exit in 2002. The actor explained how he changed the direction of his future, shifting from pursuing a career in dentistry to acting.

The Transformers star opened up about the “bootcamp” that he experienced on the ABC soap opera.

For Duhamel, the Agnes Nixon soap was a giant opportunity and one that he is still thankful for to this day, sharing, “I’m just so grateful that I got the chance to do All My Children because I was green when I got the job, and I needed the reps. I needed to really sort of dig in and either sink or swim.”

While on the daytime drama, Duhamel became a part of a popular pairing opposite Rebecca Budig’s Greenlee Smythe. While the pairing came to an end following Duhamel’s exit in 2002, viewers were given true closure when the soap opera was canceled in 2011, as Duhamel returned to his role, appearing to Greenlee in a dream a month before the show’s final episode.

Since leaving All My Children, Duhamel has booked numerous projects, from starring in the live-action Transformers franchise to lending his voice to Batman: The Long Halloween, and, most recently, serving as Coach Cole on the Disney+ series The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers.

According to IMDb, Duhamel has four projects in various stages of development, including Runaway, Speak, The Good Samaritan, and The Rescue.

Lifetime is currently in the early stages of developing two All My Children continuation films with the production company of former AMC stars Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. The films are expected to examine what Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) and Dr. Maria Santos Gray (Eva La Rue) have been up to since the series wrapped 15 years ago.

Daytime Emmy winner Ron Carlivati and Jamey Giddens have completed work on the first film’s script, while Leo Richardson has been designated to write its sequel. No further details regarding production have been shared publicly at this point.

Jenna Johnson and Harry Shum Jr. are heading back to the Dancing With the Stars ballroom after a tense moment with judge Carrie Ann Inaba. This time, their next performance has a personal meaning.

The pair will perform a foxtrot to John Mayer’s “Stop This Train” during Tuesday, Oct. 20’s Dedication Night episode. Shum Jr., 44, is dedicating the performance to his wife, Shelby, according to ABC’s official lineup. The episode airs at 8 p.m. ET on ABC and Disney+.

The duo faces a challenging week ahead. During the Oct. 13 episode, Johnson, 32, and Shum Jr. performed a samba to Usher’s “Yeah!” featuring Lil Jon and Ludacris. While the routine earned praise for its energy, Inaba questioned the amount of traditional samba content and called out a lift in the choreography.

Johnson appeared surprised by the critique and pushed back on Inaba’s, 58, interpretation of the move, prompting a tense exchange on live television. The moment quickly became a talking point among viewers.

The report’s big theme is that beauty has become a game of details. People aren’t just searching for a red manicure anymore; they’re searching for a dark cat-eye manicure. They don’t just want chrome. They want jelly pink chrome, milky white chrome, goth cat-eye or aurora cat-eye nails. Pinterest says “the new beauty flex is specificity,” and nowhere is that more obvious than at the nail desk.

If you’ve ever felt stuck between a manicure that’s too safe and one that’s too much, this trend feels like a loophole. It’s playful without being childish and shimmery without being flashy, and it works with the moody, cozy colors many of us crave in October. Pinterest’s data shows the interest isn’t limited to dots. Searches for “jelly pink chrome nails” are up 1,469%, and searches for “milky white chrome nails almond” are up 1,402%. Searches for “goth cat eye nails” have climbed 911%, “aurora cat eye nails” 895% and “dark red cat eye nails design” 735%. Pinterest says reflective finishes are getting more playful, with chrome, cat-eye, jelly and aurora effects paired with polka dots, glitter, stripes, hot pink and darker, gothic details, essentially treating each nail like a small accessory.

The trend also fits fall’s flavor-of-the-season palette. In the same report, Pinterest highlights nails inspired by lattes, caramel and berries, with searches for “caramel nude nails” up 943% and “coffee nails ideas” up 922%. Picture a latte-brown cat-eye base with cream polka dots, and the whole thing makes a lot more sense.

How to Get Cat-Eye Nails at the Salon or at Home

The good news is that this look is easier to request than it is to describe. Pinterest’s new Beauty Guides feature can help. Open a nail Pin in Closeup, tap “Get the Guide,” and you’ll see a breakdown of the look, including what to ask for at the salon, similar inspiration and shoppable products. According to Pinterest, the feature is currently available to iOS users in the U.S., with broader availability rolling out over the coming weeks.

At the salon, take the report’s advice to heart and be specific. Bring a saved photo and ask for a cat-eye gel in your base shade, then request dots in a contrasting color, such as cream over chocolate brown or silver over burgundy.

If you’re going the DIY route, know that cat-eye is trickier than it looks. Celebrity manicurist Julie Kandalec explained in Parade’s roundup of the best press-on nails that the magnet has to be manipulated in a specific way to get the effect.
