Kelsea Ballerini is clapping back to defend singer Stella Lefty following her Grand Ole Opry debut.

The “Boston” singer took the stage on Wednesday, Sept. 2, to perform her breakout chart-topping hit, along with a few other songs, but she faced immediate backlash when the Opry shared a video of her singalong meet-and-greet with two St. Jude kids backstage.

The video read, “POV: You’re passing by Stella Lefty’s green room backstage at the Opry.”

The caption of the video provided more detail, noting, “Tonight’s guest announcers Harper and Charlotte from @stjude joined @stellaleftyfor a backstage acoustic performance of “Boston” 🫶”

But what was supposed to be a sweet moment immediately sparked negative comments fueled by the ongoing nepotism controversy surrounding the 24-year-old singer.

Born Stella Lefkofsky, she’s faced scrutiny for her success, with many pointing out that she’s the daughter of Eric Lefkofsky, the co-founder of Groupon and Tempus AI CEO, who has a fortune estimated at $4.8 billion, per Forbes. The conversation suggests that the song’s success was manufactured and that she has advantages in the industry due to familial wealth.

“Billionaire dad makes one song a hit and suddenly you can play at the Opry? Tf?” one of the comments read, as another noted, “Didn’t know you could buy your way into the Opry.

But for every negative comments, there was someone defending the singer, including Opry member and country star Ballerini, who kicked off her response writing, “opry member chiming in!!”

“yes, the opry is about honoring the legacies and the people that have inspired both me and her,” she noted, adding, “but, from different backgrounds and hometowns and generations, we can find ways to say and sing things that resonate with people that fill the seats…and that is always the goal right?”

She further addressed the “beautiful” backstage moment, stating the Opry is about “celebration of all kinds of country music…new, old, traditional, current, however you wanna say it. it’s all important, and it should all be able to be shared in our safest and most sacred stage in country music.”

Someone elese echoed Ballerini’s sentiment, writing, “I work at the Opry and these children were from St. Jude. This girl spent her debut being an absolute angel to these girls who have overcome a lot and wanted to meet their idol so please think twice before posting any cheap comments. SMH.”

The backlash surrounding Lefty also involves accusations that her hit song copies the melody of Noah Kahan’s “Stick Season,” with the artist getting credit after Kahan’s reps got in touch, per USA Today and Variety. A rep clarified to Parade via email that Kahan was given credit before the song ever came out.

According to Billboard, “Boston” reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming one of the year’s defining hits and passing Dave Loggins’ 1974 ballad “Please Come to Boston” as the highest-charting song with the city in the title.

Another major Fox News personality has been seemingly ousted by the media company, and viewers don’t understand why.

In a statement released on August 4, 2026, Fox News Media announced Maria Bartiromo’s exit, saying, “We thank Maria for her work over the last 12 1/2 years and wish her all the best on her next chapter.”

It was also reported that her final episode of Mornings With Maria, a three-hour weekday program that airs on Fox Business Network, is canceled, effective immediately, and will be replaced by Mornings with FOX Business.

The two-time Emmy-winning journalist will also be replaced on the programs Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street and Sunday Morning Futures by Cheryl Casone and Jason Chaffetz, respectively.

So, what happened? The statement did not include a specific reason for her departure, and Baritoromo, 58, has yet to issue a statement.

In 2013, Bartiromo left CNBC and joined Fox News, hosting her first show, Opening Bell with Maria Bartiromo. In 2019, due to the success of her shows, Bartiromo was reportedly paid a $10 million salary by the network.

As expected, viewers are shocked by the exit, but there are also rumors that Bartiromo may be replacing Karoline Leavitt as Trump’s press secretary. Bartiromo is an ardent Trump supporter and interviewed the President in April 2026 regarding the Iran War.

“Oh WOW!! She is one of the few I trust! She will be missed,” one fan tweeted before another added, “Hopefully not the end for her! She loves America.”

A third chimed in, “Are we looking at the NEW PRESS SECRETARY for PRESIDENT TRUMP????”

Leavitt, who welcomed her second child in May 2026, stepped down as press secretary two months later to spend more time with her family. Her official last day was Thursday, August 27.

Should You Squish Odorous House Ants?

Squishing individual ants removes the workers you see, but it doesn’t eliminate the colony.

University of Minnesota Extension notes that only a small percentage of a colony may be outside the nest at any given time and says killing workers has little effect on the larger colony. That is why wiping out visible ants often produces only temporary relief.

Do Ant Baits Work on Tiny Kitchen Ants?

Penn State Extension recommends baits designed for sweet-loving ants when controlling odorous house ants. Workers collect the bait and return it to the nest, potentially exposing queens and immature ants as food is shared through the colony.

Results are not immediate. In fact, the University of Minnesota Extension says some ant bait programs can take several weeks or even months, depending on the infestation.

Should You Spray Ants Around the Bait?

Avoid spraying insecticide around an active ant bait unless the product directions specifically instruct you to. Contact sprays can kill or repel workers before they carry bait back to the colony, which interferes with the treatment.

University of Minnesota Extension specifically advises against spraying insecticide while using bait because it can prevent workers from carrying the bait back to their nest. Colorado State Extension gives similar guidance and warns against using contact sprays near bait stations.

Seeing more ants around bait may be unpleasant, but it can also mean they have found it. Follow the product label carefully, keep bait inaccessible to children and pets and give the treatment time to work.

Where Should You Put Ant Bait in the Kitchen?

Place ant bait near areas where ants are actively traveling and follow all label instructions.

Common locations include trails near baseboards, cabinet edges or other entry points, as long as the bait can be positioned safely away from food-preparation surfaces, children and pets. You should also spend a few minutes tracing where the ants are going. You may notice them disappearing:

• Beneath a baseboard
• Behind a cabinet
• Around a window
• Through a plumbing opening
• Beneath an appliance
• Into a small wall gap

To maximize effectiveness, Orkin emphasizes tactical placement: “Avoid placing traps directly in the middle of trails. Ants tend to follow edges and corners, so positioning traps along these paths increases effectiveness.”

Once activity declines, seal accessible cracks and gaps, correct moisture problems and remove the food sources that drew the ants into the kitchen. If ants continue returning, the colony may be difficult to locate or the bait may not be appropriate for the species involved.

When Should You Call Pest Control for Tiny Ants?

If ants keep returning despite clean counters and properly used bait, or if activity spreads into multiple rooms, professional pest control is worth considering. A technician can identify the species, trace ant activity and look for nesting areas that may not be visible.

University of Minnesota Extension specifically recommends professional pest management for persistent odorous house ant problems. Identification matters because ants that look similar can have different nesting habits and treatment requirements.

“Stronger” was based on Daft Punk’s 2001 song “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger,” hence the familiar sound in the intro.

“These guys really stick with the whole not-showing-their-faces thing. Just amazing discipline — that’s straight martial-arts status,” the 49-year-old singer-songwriter and record producer said, noting that he is also a big fan of the French electronic duo.

Featured as the second single from his third studio album, Graduation, the song peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making this Ye’s third U.S. Billboard Hot 100 after “Slow Jamz” and “Gold Digger.”

According to the singer, he created “Stronger” to compete with fellow hip-hop artist Timbaland and former NSYNC member Justin Timberlake, who at that time had a booming career thanks to “SexyBack.”

“I made it to compete,” he shared during his guest appearance on the Lex Fridman Podcast in 2022. “I had the song No. 1 on Apple and blowin’ up. I played it in a club and it sounded muddy. It doesn’t sound the way ‘Sexy Back’ was in the club.”

With this, he sought help from musical geniuses Pharrell Williams and Swizz Beatz before finally bringing it to Timbaland for advice.

Ye also proudly mentioned that Grammy Award-winning record producer and rapper Timbaland fixed the song in five minutes and recalled how the hip-hop star did it within a limited time.

Elliot Page may have appeared in one of the biggest movies of the year, but that hasn’t resulted in Hollywood blowing up his phone.

The actor, who had a small (but important) role in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey, revealed during an interview with eTalk shared Wednesday, September 3, that he currently doesn’t have another acting project lined up.

When host Tyrone Edwards suggested Page must be getting “a zillion calls” following the blockbuster, the 39-year-old quickly corrected that assumption. “No, Kevin, I’m not,” Page joked, before making his availability very clear: “So let’s, everybody, if someone wants to call me Elliott Page, in every movie ever going forward.”

When asked whether the lack of a next project was because he wanted some time off, Page insisted that wasn’t the case. “No, I’d really love to do ideally good work,” he explained.

Page had a supporting role in The Odyssey, portraying Sinon, a Greek soldier in Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s ancient epic. The movie follows Odysseus, played by Matt Damon, as he attempts to return home following the Trojan War.

While Page doesn’t know what role will come next, he believes he’s entering a particularly promising period creatively. Reflecting on earlier performances, Page recalled having a “great time” making Ariadne but also feeling “personally really uncomfortable” at the time. He contrasted that experience with playing the title character in 2007’s Juno, when he remembered feeling “a bit more comfortable and embodied.”

Now, Page believes something that previously affected his performances has been removed. “I feel like maybe I could do some of my best work now,” he said, explaining that he can approach acting without having to deal with that same discomfort.

The Grand Ole Opry is celebrating one of its most beloved members with a star-studded night honoring a major career milestone.

Vince Gill will mark his 35th anniversary as an Opry member with two special shows on Saturday, Oct. 17, the Grand Ole Opry announced on Thursday, Sept. 3. The shows are scheduled for 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The country legend won’t be celebrating alone. Gill will be joined by fellow Opry members and longtime friends Patty Loveless and Ricky Skaggs, as well as his wife Amy Grant, acclaimed singer Wendy Moten and more guests still to be announced.

Gill first performed on the Opry stage on June 29, 1989, before becoming an official member on Aug. 10, 1991. In the decades since, he’s remained a regular presence at the Opry, performing alongside fellow members and welcoming newer artists into the famous Circle.

Vince Gill’s 35 Years With the Grand Ole Opry

The anniversary adds another milestone to an already significant year for Gill, 69, who recently wrapped his 50 Years From Home Tour.

The 27-city trek celebrated five decades since Gill left his native Oklahoma to pursue a career in music and included a sold-out six-night run at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium.

He’s also commemorating his 50-year career with the ongoing 50 Years From Home music series, a year-long collection of EPs combining newly recorded songs with selections from his catalog.

Gill’s journey to country superstardom wasn’t exactly a straight line. After playing in bluegrass groups during the 1970s, he became the lead singer of Pure Prairie League in 1978, singing lead on the band’s 1980 hit “Let Me Love You Tonight.”

He eventually embarked on a solo country career and broke through in a major way with 1990’s “When I Call Your Name.” His subsequent hits included “I Still Believe in You,” “One More Last Chance,” “Whenever You Come Around” and “Go Rest High on That Mountain.”

Over his career, Gill has won 22 Grammy Awards and 19 CMA Awards and earned induction into both the Country Music Hall of Fame and Musicians Hall of Fame. “Go Rest High on That Mountain” was also selected for preservation in the Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry.

From Country Superstar to Eagles Guitarist

Gill added another remarkable chapter to his career in 2017 when he joined the Eagles following the 2016 death of founding member Glenn Frey.

The singer and multi-instrumentalist has continued performing with the rock legends while maintaining his country career and Opry commitments. He’s scheduled to join the Eagles for their upcoming performances at Sphere in Las Vegas before returning to the Ryman in December for his annual Christmas residency with Grant.

Before that, however, Gill will return to the Opry stage to celebrate the place he’s called a musical home for 35 years.

The Oct. 17 celebration also continues a year filled with major moments at the Grand Ole Opry. In August, the country music institution honored the late Dolly Parton with a special tribute show featuring Carly Pearce, Kathy Mattea, Belle Frantz, Molly Tuttle, Dan Tyminski and other artists. Parton’s connection to the Opry stretched back decades. She first performed there at just 13 years old and earned three encores that night, years before becoming an official Opry member in 1969.

Now, the Opry will turn its attention to another longtime member, with Gill and some of his closest musical friends taking the stage to celebrate his 35 years in the Circle.

Jane Fonda is remembering Gloria Steinem not just as a feminist icon, but as a friend and fellow activist who spent decades helping women find their voices.

Steinem died on Sept. 2 at age 92. In a moving Instagram tribute, Fonda, 88, recalled Steinem’s tireless travels, carrying her own suitcase from airport to airport to speak to women at conferences, town halls and consciousness-raising groups. “No group was too small to deserve Gloria’s time,” Fonda wrote, describing how Steinem helped build the modern women’s movement while working alongside Black activists including Dorothy Pitman Hughes and Florynce Kennedy.

Fonda also reflected on Steinem’s unique ability to raise awareness around feminism and make complex ideas about women and power accessible. “Gloria, in her graceful, kind, and deeply intelligent way, changed the world we live in,” Fonda wrote. “For decades, she trudged through every airport in the country, in sandals and a trench, carrying her own suitcase, packed with a few black clothes, hair curlers, and steam iron, in order to speak to women — at conferences, town halls, consciousness raising groups. No group was too small to deserve Gloria’s time. This is how she built the new women’s movement.”

In her tribute, Fonda praised Steinem’s ability to make complex ideas about women, power and equality accessible, and credited her with inspiring countless women to find their voices and take control of their lives. Fonda also highlighted Steinem’s lasting legacy through the many women’s organizations she co-founded and the personal impact of her work on women who never identified as feminists.

Fonda ended her post with a series of her favorite Steinem quotes, including this paraphrased remark: “Feminism doesn’t lead to matriarchy. Feminism leads to democracy.”

Three years since the death of Bryan Randall from a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Sandra Bullock is opening up about dating again.

Her children revealed that there are some guidelines the Practical Magic 2 star must consider.

“[Laila] said I needed to date, but only someone where they could get stuff,” Bullock told Kelce. “So I said, ‘What, a rapper, a basketball player? That’s the parameters?’ She’s like, ‘Yeah.’ I went, ‘Oh.’”

It appears that her children care more about perks, as she explained they generally “don’t care” about her career or status in Hollywood. They instead “just care if you come back with stuff for them.”

She admits that her job has been “craft service,” and her children, when they were little, saw her as such, an “extensive craft service.” Bullock took a break from acting during Randall’s ALS battle and for a short while after his death. Her last big-screen role was in The Lost City with Channing Tatum, and now returned for Practical Magic 2.

The mom and actor admits that she didn’t expect to be acting for as long as she has. When she first started in the industry, it wasn’t often seen, and “nobody did the job this long.” She reveals that her focus is on her children, and it now influences her decisions on what roles she takes.

“My kids are my everything, so if it doesn’t work for them and my time with them, then I’m not doing it,” the Oscar winner said. “And I’m lucky. I’m lucky that I’m one of the moms that gets to be with her kids all the time. I have no desire to leave my kids.”

Bullock and Randall shared three children during their relationship. The actor adopted her two children in 2010 and 2015, and Randall has an older daughter from a previous relationship.

Dolly Parton‘s “Here You Come Again” just re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 44, even though the track was never supposed to be hers.

Songwriters Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil wrote the track in 1975 as a comeback vehicle for Brenda Lee, but Lee held onto it for more than a year before ultimately deciding to pass on singing it. From there, B.J. Thomas recorded it first for his own self-titled 1977 album, and it was there that Parton’s producer, Gary Klein, first heard it and thought it belonged on her upcoming record.

Parton herself wasn’t immediately sold. According to her longtime manager Sandy Gallin, she worried the pop-leaning song would alienate the country audience she’d spent years building, reportedly telling him, “A monkey can sing this song and have a hit with it.” To keep it from drifting too far from her roots, Parton pushed to add a steel guitar to the arrangement, bringing in musician Al Perkins to give the track just enough country texture to feel like her own.

The gamble paid off. “Here You Come Again” spent five weeks at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart following its September 1977 release and climbed to No. 3 on the Hot 100, becoming Parton’s first major pop crossover hit and setting up the run of mainstream success that would define the next decade of her career.

Now, 49 years later, the song is charting again. In the days following Parton’s death in August, “Here You Come Again” re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 44, one of five Parton classics to return to the chart as fans revisited her catalog in large numbers. The song pulled in roughly 5 million official U.S. streams in a single tracking week, an increase of more than 1,000% compared to its usual numbers, along with a jump in radio airplay and physical sales.

For a film geared for the whole family to be successful, it needs to have plenty of fun moments. However, some family films are simply more fun than others. For instance, the publication Collider recently released a list of the “8 most fun family movies ever made.”

The ranking, published on September 1, featured popular films like 1995’s Toy Story, Home Alone from 1990, and 2025’s KPop Demon Hunters. According to the publication, the “most fun family movie ever made” is the 1985 Richard Donner-directed action film, The Goonies, starring Sean Astin, Jeff Cohen, Martha Plimpton, Corey Feldman, Ke Huy Quan, and Josh Brolin.

The Goonies, written by filmmaker Chris Columbus, who crafted the screenplay from an idea by Steven Spielberg, holds a score of 77 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.

Chris Columbus Explained How He Ended Up Penning the Script for ‘The Goonies’

In an August 2025 interview with GQ, where he discussed his major career milestones, Columbus explained how he became the screenwriter for The Goonies. He said after he wrote the script for the 1984 film Gremlins, executive produced by Spielberg, the Jaws director “offered [him] an office at Amblin,” his production company.

“So at Amblin at that time, it was a magical time, just about eight of us there, Kathy Kennedy, Frank Marshall, John Williams had an office. Robert Zemeckis had an office, and I had an office three doors down from Steven,” said Columbus during the interview. “So it was like working at a newspaper, I’d run to his office, we’d discuss things. And in those meetings, that’s where Steven started to come up with the idea and the storyline for Goonies.”

Columbus said that when “Steven started to talk about this story,” he took “copious notes.”

“Then we decided to start writing it. So I was just three doors down. I’d write three or four pages, take them to Steven’s office, he would make some corrections, and I would go back. And that’s how the script came to be,” said Columbus.

He also said he considered working on The Goonies as his “graduate school of filmmaking.”

“I learned a lot about how to structure a film, I became a much better writer, and it sort of paved my way in terms of becoming a director by working with Steven on The Goonies script,” said Columbus during the GQ interview.

Pretty Woman was so well-loved at the time that it grossed over $463 million worldwide, as cited by Box Office Mojo.

With the massive reception from the public, Walt Disney proclaimed the film as “the highest-grossing film in the studio’s 67-year history,” as mentioned by Variety, alongside Ghost and Home Alone.

The two stars were the producers’ first choice for the movie. However, Gere initially passed on playing Edward because of the character’s image.

After the script underwent significant changes, including Edward’s character, Gere finally said yes, partly because of his co-star.

“So I’m talking to Gary, and [Roberts is] on the other side of the desk, and she’s writing something on one of my Post-its,” Gere shared on The Tonight Show in November 2024. “Then she turns around and puts it down, and I read it, and it says, ‘Please say yes.’ So I said, ‘Gary, I think I just said yes.’ “

As for Roberts, her one condition to play the role was having no naked scenes, but the production instead used a double for some parts, per BBC.

From being a box-office hit, Pretty Woman also catapulted Roberts to superstardom.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry‘s return to the UK sparked a series of rumors that the former actor and ex-royal will revive her acting career. Reports claimed that Markle was in talks to join The Gentlemen Season 3, but star Theo James says otherwise.

The Netflix series based on Guy Ritchie‘s 2019 film of the same name has premiered its second season. Before the release of the new installment, it was also announced by the streaming platform that it was greenlit for a third season. Rumors circulated that part of Markle’s return to the UK was based on the possibility of her being considered for an unknown role in the new season.

Markle nor Netflix has confirmed speculations, with Netflix’s scripted chief in the UK, Manda Levin, having given a cryptic response about ongoing talks. James, who stars in The Gentlemen as Edward “Eddie” Horniman, says it’s all just rumors.

When talking about the second season and the greenlit third installment, James chimed in on Markle’s rumored casting. He told Town & Country that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, would “be playing [his] love interest.”

James seemingly confirms that Markle has no set role in The Gentlemen Season 3, and even adds, “Yes, Fergie is joining.” The Divergent star also said that the circulating speculations are “mainly hot air.” The cast and crew are more focused on one thing, and it’s not the ex-royal.

“At the moment, we’re just trying to get as many eyes on Season 2, and then Season 3 will happen soon,” said James.

Reports claimed that Markle’s role was still being written, with nothing being officially confirmed. According to Tina Brown, former editor-in-chief of Vanity Fair and The New Yorker, she also revealed that Markle was dropped from starring in the series and that the casting was “withdrawn.” She claims it was due to the backlash she’s received for moving back to the UK.

“The backlash in the U.K. was so intense, it became untenable to go forward. This does not bode well for Meghan’s acting comeback in the U.K.,” she said.

James also revealed their ambitions for The Gentlemen and their desire to “expand the world, go to different countries.” As of right now, it’s “still very much up in the air.”

Trying to find where to watch our favorite broadcast shows is getting harder. Streamers give with one hand and take with the other, and that’s been the case for NCIS over the last few years.

After just a year on the streaming platform, two seasons of NCIS are departing. Both NCIS Seasons 18 and 19 are scheduled to leave on Oct. 1, 2026.

This is expected, as most of these deals with Paramount are for just a year now. Originally, Netflix was the streaming home for the popular CBS crime drama, but the first 11 seasons were removed in 2024. Seasons 12 to 15 remained, and then 16 and 17 were added.

Then a year later, the next two seasons were added, giving fans a chance to catch the final episodes with Bishop and Gibbs. The first five seasons were also added back on the streaming giant at the same time as Seasons 18 and 19 were added. While the two latter seasons are leaving, there is no word on what’s happening with the first five seasons, suggesting that they are under a different licensing agreement.

So, does this mean you’re platform hopping to watch the entire show? The good news is there’s one streaming platform that has every single season of the series. All 23 seasons so far are available to stream on Paramount+, and when NCIS Season 24 premieres on Oct. 11, 2026, that will also be added to Paramount+.

The new season will see the return of Michael Weatherly, who left the series after NCIS Season 13. He did return during the tribute to Ducky, marking David McCallum’s death, but then he landed his own spinoff with Cote de Pablo, NCIS: Tony & Ziva. After the cancellation after one season, eyes were on whether the characters would return to the flagship, and that’s slowly happening.

It’s not the only big show leaving Netflix in October 2026. Currently, Shameless, Dawson’s Creek, and Halo are all scheduled to leave the platform. Some of those may be saved if the streaming giant can extend the licenses, but it’s unlikely to happen for some of them, including NCIS. After all, that’s a huge show that CBS doesn’t need the Netflix Effect.

There would be no Elle Woods without Gloria Steinem, at least according to Reese Witherspoon.

Following the death of the beloved feminist and activist at the age of 92, Witherspoon took to Instagram to pay tribute to Steinem and share a surprising connection to her movie, Legally Blonde.

“Gloria Steinem changed how women saw themselves and what was possible…I was one of them,” she wrote. “When I was deciding whether to do Legally Blonde, I watched a documentary where Gloria spoke about the importance of seeing an underestimated woman become the hero of her own story. Her words changed how I saw Elle Woods and helped me say yes.”

Witherspoon went on to share that years later she was able to tell Steinem about her impact on her acting career.

“Thank you, Gloria, for your courage, your commitment, and everything you made possible for all women, Witherspoon ended her post. “What a legacy.”

This is not the first time Witherspoon has revealed Steinem’s influence on Legally Blonde. In an interview from 2005, she said it was Steinem talking about Goldie Hawn’s performance in Private Benjamin that got her to accept the role of Elle Woods.

“And then I saw Gloria Steinem talking about Goldie Hawn in Private Benjamin on Bravo — it was like a biography,” Witherspoon said at the time. “And she was talking about the impact of that film and how important it was for women to see a woman who was underestimated rise above everything and become the hero of her own life. And it just rung in my ears, and I immediately saw the connection to Legally Blonde.”

Steinem also gets a shout-out in the Legally Blonde musical, where Elle Woods attends the costume party as an undercover Steinem dressed as a Playboy Bunny, referencing her real-life 1963 investigative piece “A Bunny’s Tale.”

There’s no denying that Patrick Swayze starred in some of the biggest romance cult classics during the span of his career, and one 1990 sleeper hit is considered to be one of the best romance storylines.

Variety developed a list of some of the greatest movies released in the romance genre, and fans can likely guess which Swayze films fit the criteria. Having originally gotten recognition in the drama and action films The Outsiders and Red Dawn, the actor solidified himself as an on-screen heartthrob with Dirty Dancing.

While Swayze made hearts swoon in a leather jacket and with his dance moves in 1987, Variety ranked Ghost at No. 7 on its list of the greatest romance movies of all time. The 1990 supernatural romance starred the actor opposite Demi Moore, Whoopi Goldberg, and Tony Goldwyn in what would become the highest-grossing film of the year that unexpectedly outperformed several blockbusters.

Directed by Jerry Zucker, Ghost was a surprise from a director who was known for spoof comedy hits like Airplane! The Naked Gun and Police Squad! The director was looking to simply make a good drama movie and developed the film alongside writer Bruce Joel Rubin.

Ghost follows Swayze as Sam Wheat, a banker whose murdered and comes back as a ghost with unfinished business. He’s unable to communicate with the living world until finding a psychic con artist, Oda Mae Brown (Goldberg). Along the way, he uncovers the truth about his death and tries to communicate with his girlfriend, Molly Jensen (Moore), to warn her.

“The way Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore bond across the ectoplasmic divide is at once thrilling and moving (true love, it seems, knows no restrictions, from either physics or the spirit world). The film turned the Righteous Brothers’ “Unchained Melody” into a retro smash, but only because of how it tapped the film’s emotions: intimate, operatic, quavering with devotion,” said Variety.

The film would end up making over $505 million at the box office on a $22 million budget, and would earn five Oscar nominations. It would win Best Supporting Actress for Goldberg and Best Original Screenplay.

Before Swayze, the role almost went to Bruce Willis, who was married to Moore at the time. He told a New York Times reporter that he was a “knucklehead” for having turned down the role.

“I just didn’t get it. I said, ‘Hey, the guy’s dead. How are you gonna have a romance?’ Famous last words,” he joked.

Swayze once revealed his love for romance and goosebumps, with the script for Ghost having left him “boo-hooing” and set on making the film. He even called the film’s iconic pottery scene one of the “sweetest, sexiest love scene that I’ve ever been involved with.” Ghost also left a lasting impact that he felt 100% proud of, especially its subject matter of death.

“Ghost was the first movie I’ve ever done that really changed me as a person because it’s about taking the love with you after you die,” he told the Los Angeles Times.

He once told People it was “about living your life for the moment, because that’s all you’ve got … If you don’t communicate with the people you love, you set yourself up for incredible pain if you lose them.”

TLC is currently on tour with fellow ’90s girl groups Salt-N-Pepa and En Vogue. However, during a recent show in New York, Chili (real name Rozonda Thomas) updated fans on T-Boz’s health after she was forced to miss the show due to a sickle cell flare-up.

“As you guys know, my sister, T-Boz, has sickle cell, that’s not a secret, and sometimes those flares come, and this is that time,” Chili told the audience during a break in the performance. “So, I’m going to hold it down for my sister, and I’m gonna ask each and every one of you to help me hold it down tonight, OK.”

T-Boz (real name: Tionne Watkins) was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia as a child and has been in and out of hospitals since she was 7 years old. The now 56-year-old has always been very open about her health struggles, including a brain tumor she had removed in 2011.

T-Boz previously spoke out about being hospitalized while on tour, and how she manages her condition today.

“Early on, it wasn’t managed at all. That’s why I ruined every tour and got sick every time,” she said in an interview. “Everything is strategically planned out, as far as how long travel is, what days I’m off, and what cities we do or don’t go to.”

She continued, “Sometimes, yeah, I have to work 10 times harder than the average artist to do what I want to do, but that’s what I want. So I’m not gonna sit down and let a disease take over my life.”

According to a statement from her manager, T-Boz was hospitalized, but is “currently recovering and regaining her strength.”

“Sickle cell is a serious illness, so we ask everyone to please keep the prayers coming as Tionne continues to recover,” the statement read. “We are immensely grateful for the love and support.”
