Veteran gospel artist Ricky McKinnie is celebrating his 74th birthday, marking more than five decades in gospel music and entertainment. The singer, drummer, songwriter, radio host and music executive has spent his career helping shape modern gospel music while becoming one of the most recognized voices associated with the legendary Blind Boys of Alabama.

Born on July 12, 1952, in Atlanta, Georgia, Eric "Ricky" McKinnie has built a legacy that stretches from church performances in his hometown to Grammy-winning stages across the world.

 Today, he serves as the acting leader and business manager of the Blind Boys of Alabama, the celebrated gospel group that has earned six Grammy Awards and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy.

McKinnie's birthday arrives as the Blind Boys of Alabama continue touring and sharing their story with new generations of music fans. The group recently released the book Spirit of the Century: Our Own Story, documenting more than 80 years of history dating back to 1944.

Ricky McKinnie's Gospel Music Journey Began in Atlanta

McKinnie was raised in Atlanta, where music quickly became part of his daily life. He began singing in church alongside his mother and learned to play drums while performing at Greater Mount Calvary Baptist Church.

While still a teenager, he joined Troy Ramey and the Soul Searchers in 1970. Two years later, he became a member of the Gospel Keynotes, one of gospel music's leading groups during the decade.

During his years with the Gospel Keynotes, McKinnie performed on the Gold-certified album Reach Out and the Platinum-selling Destiny. The group also recorded notable songs including "Jesus, You Been Good to Me" and "That's My Son Hanging on the Cross."

Around the age of 20, McKinnie began losing his sight because of glaucoma. By 1975, he was completely blind.

Despite that challenge, his music career continued to grow. Atlanta Mayor Maynard Jackson honored the singer in 1975 by declaring May 10 as "Eric R. McKinnie Day." Two years later, Georgia Governor George Busbee also recognized his contributions to gospel music.

In 1978, McKinnie founded the Ricky McKinnie Singers with his mother and brother. The family group performed across Georgia and opened shows for gospel icon James Cleveland.

Although McKinnie had known members of the Blind Boys of Alabama since childhood, he officially joined the group in 1989. Over the years, he became one of its most important figures, eventually taking over management duties in 1997 before moving into the role of business manager in 2000.

Following the retirement of longtime member Jimmy Carter in 2023, McKinnie became the group's acting leader.

The Blind Boys of Alabama were originally formed in 1944 by students from the Alabama Institute for the Negro Deaf and Blind. The group has remained active for more than eight decades while introducing gospel music to audiences around the world.

Reflecting on the group's impact earlier this year, McKinnie said he hopes future generations remember the band for changing perceptions about disability.

"I hope that future generations would remember the Blind Boys for showing people that a disability didn't have to be a handicap,” McKinnie told WOUB. Because it's not about what you can't do that's important. It's about what you do. Blindness is not a handicap; it's a limitation, and everybody's got limitations."

McKinnie also explained what keeps the group motivated after decades of performing.

"What keeps us inspired, keeps us going on, is that people still appreciate our music. Knowing that our music touches people."

He added, "When somebody comes to the record table after a show and says that our music made a difference in their lives – that's what keeps us going because we are glad that our music and our concerts do make a difference."

Outside of performing, McKinnie operates an Atlanta recording studio, supports organizations connected to glaucoma awareness and diabetes, and leads Traditions Cultural Arts, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to preserving traditional arts and mentoring future performers.

As he turns 74, McKinnie remains one of gospel music's most respected figures and continues leading the Blind Boys of Alabama into a new chapter while honoring the group's historic legacy.

Throughout the '80s, many musical artists learned that one top 40 hit didn't guarantee lifetime success. For instance, the publication Collider recently spotlighted some once-popular bands, groups, and singers from the era with a ranking of the "10 greatest '80s one-hit wonders."

The list, published on July 13, included songs like The Weather Girls' 1982 hit, "It's Raining Men," Devo's "Whip It," released in 1980, "Tainted Love" by Soft Cell from 1981, and Toni Basil's "Mickey," also released in 1981. According to Collider, the number one "one-hit wonder" from the 1980s is Dexys Midnight Runners' 1982 "Come On Eileen" off the band's second album, Too-Rye-Ay. The publication suggested that fans fell in love with "Come On Eileen" because it's a cheery tune with unexpected Celtic folk elements that differentiated it from other '80s hits.

"Come On Eileen" got the No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 spot in April 1983. According to Billboard, the English band's only other song that made it on the Hot 100 was "The Celtic Soul Brothers," which secured the No. 86 spot in June 1983.

Kevin Rowland Explained the Inspiration Behind 'Come On Eileen' in a 2006 Interview

During a 2006 interview with Top 2000 a gogo, the band's frontman Kevin Rowland, now 72, explained that "Come On Eileen" was loosely inspired by 1981's "Labelled With Love" by Squeeze. He said he incorrectly believed that the song's lyrics included the line "Me and Eileen." After he realized that Squeeze's real lyrics were "Me and myself," he decided that the name Eileen would be great for a Dexys Midnight Runners song.

In addition, he said he used Celtic elements in "Come On Eileen" because his father "used to sing those old" Irish songs. He noticed that other mainstream bands weren't "doing anything like that."

"So I thought this is going to be great," continued the musician during the interview with Top 2000 a gogo.

Actress Jane Seymour isn't afraid of aging. The Dr, Quinn, Medicine Woman star got candid, speaking out about age, acting, and Hollywood during a panel at Fanboy Expo Knoxville at the Knoxville Convention Center on July 11.

Per PEOPLE, Seymour opened up, sharing her take on playing the lead on Acorn TV’s Harry Wild: “Having Harry Wild at this time of my life is just huge for me, to play a woman of a certain age who’s not decided to go live under a rock and then wait for the end of their life.”

“I’m hoping that I’m the poster child for women over 50 to realize that post-menopause, the kids are gone, you may or not have a partner in your life anymore or want one or get one, but life is not over,” said Seymour. “You may have retired, but it doesn’t mean you can’t now use your skill set and your passion for life to do something else with the skills that you have.” 

The actress also spoke about choosing roles: “I’m not trying to play younger than I am. I’m just trying to be authentically my kind of age span and tell these stories. I’m privileged.” Of her recent turn in Harry Wild, the 75-year-old added, “I’m not just some random grandmother in the background.” 

Seymour described the character during a recent interview with Westlake Malibu Lifestyle Magazine: “She’s a professor of English Literature, so she’s smart, articulate, and she solves crimes utilizing the benefits of history and literature.”

While Seymour is certainly a ‘poster child’ for women in their 50s and older, she isn’t the only actress speaking out about aging. Other celebs, such as Halle Berry, are doing more than just aging gracefully. The 59-year-old Hollywood superstar also owns Respin Health, a women’s wellness company that provides perimenopause and menopause care. 

She recently appeared on TODAY with Jenna Bush Hager and Sheinelle Jones, sharing (about her age), “I feel different than I thought I would feel at 60. What is 60? What is age anymore? It’s a feeling. I feel stronger, smarter, wiser, more myself, more in control. You know, I am the best version of myself at this time in my life, and I am so glad that I’m still here and healthy."

Other celebs who have gotten real about aging in the limelight include Pamela Anderson (who now favors a natural, almost makeup-free look), Tracee Ellis Ross, Sarah Jessica Parker, Helen Mirren, and Salma Hayek.

In 1975, AC/DC introduced the world to a song that perfectly captured the band's fearless attitude—but its principal songwriter was only 19 years old.

"High Voltage," the title track from AC/DC's first international album, was co-written by brothers Angus and Malcolm Young in 1974, when Angus was still a teenager. More than 50 years later, the hard-hitting anthem remains one of the band's defining songs and an enduring celebration of confidence, ambition and rock 'n' roll itself.

The song arrived during AC/DC's earliest days.

After forming in Sydney in 1973, the Young brothers quickly developed a no-frills brand of hard rock built on powerful riffs, infectious hooks and the unmistakable voice of Bon Scott. "High Voltage" showcased all of those qualities, helping establish the blueprint that would eventually make AC/DC one of the biggest rock bands in history.

"Malcolm and George always sort of said it'd be cool if we had a song that had the chords A, C, D, C in it," Young said in a 1997 interview. He began writing the now-iconic song. "That was the idea behind 'High Voltage."

Lyrically, the song isn't about electricity at all.

Instead, "High Voltage" uses the phrase as a metaphor for energy, determination and living life at full throttle. Scott's charismatic delivery, combined with Angus Young's electrifying guitar work, transforms the song into an unapologetic declaration of self-belief, making it feel just as motivational today as it did when it was first released.

Although it wasn't one of the band’s biggest chart hits, "High Voltage" became one of AC/DC's signature recordings. It appeared on the Australian album of the same name before also serving as the title track of the group's first internationally released LP, introducing audiences around the world to the sound that would soon produce classics like "Highway to Hell," "Back in Black," "You Shook Me All Night Long" and "Thunderstruck."

The song also became a staple of AC/DC's live performances.

For decades, fans have embraced "High Voltage" as a concert favorite, with its infectious chorus and relentless energy making it one of the highlights of the band’s legendary live shows. It continues to receive regular airplay on classic rock radio and remains one of the earliest songs many fans associate with the group.

Few could have predicted that a song written by a 19-year-old guitarist would help launch one of rock's greatest careers.

"As a kid, I was never one for the tennis racket," Young told Guitar World. "I was more interested in getting my fingers round the guitar neck, because when I was little - I’m little now, but I was ‘little’ little - getting a hand around the neck was a big thing. That was the hardest part."

More than five decades after its release, "High Voltage" still delivers the same adrenaline rush that first introduced AC/DC to the world. Its timeless message of confidence and unstoppable energy has helped transform it from an early hard rock favorite into one of the genre's most enduring motivational anthems.

On July 18, 1976, Nadia Comăneci stepped onto the mat and changed gymnastics forever. At the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, she defied gravity on the uneven bars with release moves, unmatched transitions, extraordinary precision, and poise.

After she stuck her landing, the 14-year-old Romanian athlete did what no other had done before: She scored a perfect 10. From there, she did not stop—not even for a second.

“I didn’t even think about the score,” she said later, according to Olympics.com. “I was more into not making a mistake because the Olympics are every four years, just trying to concentrate on what I have to deliver in that minute and 20 seconds. That was the only thing that was in my head.”

By the end of the competition, Comăneci had earned seven perfect 10s from the judges and swept three gold medals (all-around, uneven bars, and balance beam events), one silver, and one bronze, becoming one of Montreal’s biggest stars.

The world was stunned—and so was the electronic scoreboard, which famously glitched, flashing a “1.00” because it wasn’t built to display the perfect four-digit score, 10.00. It was an incredible feat that forever changed the sport.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the historic moment, Comăneci is reliving her “The First 10” through a new line of gymnastics wear. On Instagram, the legend shared a video of herself modeling various “Nadia”-stamped leotards from the collection.

She begins the video by twirling into view in a lavender-toned one-piece studded with sparkly rhinestones and strappy flourishes on the back. The video then cuts to her in a hot-pink leotard, where she does some footwork before giving another twirl. She models a couple more looks, performing through each shot.

Now 64, she looks absolutely ageless.

Since Comăneci’s Goliath display at the Summer Games, a handful of other Olympic gymnasts also earned perfect 10s: Mary Lou Retton, Julianne McNamara, and DanielaSilivas all joined the perfect-10 club.

In 2006, however, the International Gymnastics Federation phased out the 10.00 system in favor of an open-ended scoring system, making it impossible to now receive a perfect score.

“Even now, I’m looking back … and I’m thinking that the 14-year-old [version of me], the courage, the craziness and determination, I look at that 14-year-old like it’s not me,” she added.

At the Montreal Games, Comăneci became the youngest gymnast ever to win the Olympic all-around title, a record that still stands because of age-rule changes. And The First 10 remains one of the most iconic moments in Olympic history and a routine that continues to inspire generations of gymnasts worldwide.

Fifty years later, The First 10 still sparkles, and so do the leotards celebrating it.

Originally published as fanfiction of the YA series Twilight, British author E.L. James originally put the work titled Master of the Universe on her own website. Recently, in a list released from Amazon, Fifty Shades of Grey came in at number three as the best-selling book of all time on the platform overall. Worldwide, the Fifty Shades of Grey trilogy has sold over 165 million copies.

It's the dead of summer, and A24's collaboration with Peacock has finally revealed the trailer for their series inspired by the harrowing lore behind the hockey mask of Friday the 13thtitan of terror—Jason Voorhees.

The first look at Camp Crystal Lake just dropped for the upcoming streamer series release from IT: Welcome to Derry, showrunner (and singing voice of Aladdin) Brad Caleb Kane. It's set for release on Peacock on October 15th, and star Linda Cardellini dished on what it's like to take on the mantle of the genre's original killer mother.

In a recent interview with Deadline, star Linda Cardellini talked about playing Pamela Voorhees. "She's important to the series, but sort of unexplored. "So I thought that would be really, really fun to do something I'd never done," she said. From the trailer, we get a sense that Cardellini's take gets to explore the complex and cathartic unraveling of the character, originally played by Betsy Palmer in the 1980 horror classic. It's going to be exciting to see a mother in mourning after her son Jason drowns at summer camp and how that sets off a chain of grizzly teen murders.

Cardellini also told the trade that Kane really built upon the mythology of the iconic hockey-masked killer's mother, adding that he "has made sort of this mixtape of all the things that he would love to see happen for her. It goes all over the place for her character, and it's really fun," she described regarding how Camp Crystal Lake approaches the direct aftermath of Jason Voorhees' death as a kid and how it makes his mother such an integral part of the Friday the 13th franchise legacy.

Camp Crystal Lake will hit Peacock and stream this Halloween season on October 15th.

Sir Patrick Stewart, the award-winning actor best known for playing Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men films, has turned 86.

The English actor celebrated his 86th birthday on Monday, marking more than seven decades in entertainment. Despite his age, Stewart recently made it clear that he is not ready to step away from acting.

In a recent interview with TV Insider, Stewart addressed retirement rumors and said, "I can't imagine ever officially 'retiring.' I'll always and forever be an actor."

The statement comes after online speculation suggested that his upcoming return as Professor X in Avengers: Doomsday could be his final film role. Stewart, however, indicated that his career is far from over.

Born on July 13, 1940, in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, Stewart built one of the most respected careers in film, television and theater. He joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1966 and later became one of Britain's most celebrated stage actors.

His international breakthrough came in 1987 when he was cast as Captain Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation. The series ran until 1994 and turned Stewart into a global star.

He later reprised the role in several Star Trek films and again in the series Star Trek: Picard, which concluded in 2023.

Stewart also became a fan favorite in another major franchise when he portrayed Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Menmovies beginning in 2000. He has played the character in several films and is set to return in Avengers: Doomsday.

Throughout his career, Stewart has earned numerous honors, including two Olivier Awards and a Grammy Award, along with nominations for Emmy Awards, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards. In 2010, Queen Elizabeth II knighted him for services to drama.

Long before social media polls and online fan campaigns became common, Stewart earned an unusual title from television viewers.

In 1992, readers of TV Guide voted him television's "most bodacious man." The poll described "bodacious" as someone who is outstanding, bold and splendid, according to Deseret News.

Stewart received 54 percent of the vote, beating several other television stars. At the time, he joked about the recognition and reflected on losing his hair at a young age.

"It would have been awfully nice if it had happened when I was 19 and lost my hair." He added, "I believed that no woman would ever be interested in me again. I prepared myself for the reality that a large part of my life was over."

Instead, Stewart became one of Hollywood's most recognizable stars and proved that talent and confidence mattered far more than appearance.

Even at 86, he remains active in the entertainment industry. He recently appeared in The Sheep Detectives and continues to accept new acting projects.

For many fans, Stewart's birthday is not only a celebration of a beloved actor but also a reminder of a career that has inspired generations across film, television and theater.

Former child star Ashley Johnson revealed she was almost abducted by a fan after a live taping.

Her breakout role was playing Chrissy Seaver on ABC's sitcomGrowing Pains in the early 1990s. She is now known for working on projects such as The Last of Us, Blindspot, and What Women Want.

Johnson told her WeirdKids podcast cohost, Taliesin Jaffe, about the terrifying event on a recent episode.

“It was in the first year I was on, and we had only done a couple of film nights,” Johnson said. “So, I hadn’t done that many yet and at that time, all of the cast sort of had trailers and they were like old camper trailers. They’re not like the fancy trailers that they are now. They were great. We would exit our trailers before the shoot and the audience that would be walking in, you would walk by the audience before you would walk into the studio.”

The actress shared that the studio didn’t have metal detectors or additional security measures that are often seen on set now. Johnson said that studio audience members could walk “within five feet” of the cast when they came to set.

“Somebody had written in and said that, ‘I am coming to set and I am going to bring a gun and I am going to murder some of the cast,’” she continued.

“So, I’m walking with my mom and then I just remember some guy hops out of the line and he grabs me and grabs me up and starts booking it. And all I remember is like, there was security that somehow got on him after some time.”

The now 42-year-old recalled the man having a gun. She said she was “flying around in the air” when security intervened in the attempted abduction.

Scott Bryce, the two-time Daytime Emmy nominee beloved for playing Craig Montgomery on hit CBS soap opera As the World Turns, has died at 68.

News of his death began circulating Sunday evening, July 12, after his longtime friend and former costar Lucie Arnaz shared it in a Facebook post that has since been taken down, according to MichelfreemanTV.com.

Arnaz's tribute captured just how much Bryce meant to the people around him. "A wonderful actor, a beautiful man and a terrific husband and father, Scott Bryce, passed tonight," she wrote, as quoted by Soaps.com. PageSix also confirmed.

"I am going to miss his eyes, his smile, his wit, his brain, his intelligence, his talent, his bravery, his laugh and his hugs. Dearest Jodi, dear Jackson, he's watching over you now from a place of pure joy and will always be your guide. But, I hate these goodbyes. Rest in peace, you marvelous, magnificent man."

Bryce's Cancer Battle Took a Difficult Turn View this post on Instagram

Bryce had been diagnosed with Stage 3 esophageal and stomach cancer back in 2025, and he'd credited catching it early as a major factor in his treatment, as reported by Soapoperanews. For a while, he shared encouraging updates with fans, reporting that he was on the mend. Arnaz revealed that his cancer had ultimately returned. Arnaz worked alongside Bryce in two separate projects, the independent film The Pack and the TV series Sons and Daughters.

From Daytime Royalty to Soap Icon: Scott Bryce's Family Legacy

Bryce came from daytime royalty. His father, actor Ed Bryce, spent years playing Bill Bauer on Guiding Light, and Scott followed a similar path into the soap opera world, as per his IMDb profile.

His run as Craig Montgomery became the role he was best known for, spanning three separate stints on As the World Turns between 1982 and 2008. Early in the role, he was paired on screen with Meg Ryan, who played Betsy Stewart at the time.

When Bryce exited the soap for good in February 2008, Jon Lindstrom stepped into the role of Craig by that December and continued through 2010. Over the character's long run, Hunt Block and Jeffrey Meek also took turns playing Craig. Bryce also spent a season playing Ed Crosby on One Life to Live from 2006 to 2007.

Beyond Daytime, Bryce Built a Broad Television Résumé

Bryce's résumé extended well past soap operas. He picked up recurring and guest roles across a range of primetime series, including Murphy Brown, The Facts of Life, ER, Law & Order, Reba, Sex and the City, Blue Bloods, The Blacklist, Homeland and 30 Rock.

Irish rock band Thin Lizzy was on the way to making a name for themselves after "Whiskey in the Jar," with one of their underrated tracks, "Still in Love With You," tagged among fans as one of the most romantic yet heartbreaking ballads.

Released as part of their fourth studio album, Nightlife, "Still in Love With You" wasn't a success on the charts. In fact, it failed to enter any of the music charts when it was originally released by Thin Lizzy. It wasn't until 1986 that the track gained chart popularity when it was covered by the R&B/soul band Sade in 2011 for their compilation album. Their cover landed around No. 6 on the Smooth Jazz Airplay and No. 55 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

The original track by Thin Lizzy is considered an underrated gem among fans that became a live show favorite. "Still in Love With You" also played a pivotal role in securing a recording contract with PolyGram Records the summer it was released in 1974.

Leading up to the release of the track and the album, the band's founding guitarist Eric Bell left the band at the end of 1973 due to exhaustion from touring. He was briefly replaced by guitarist Gary Moore, who would also leave the band a few months later.

"Still in Love With You" is reported to have been a combination of frontman Phil Lynott's two songs, the ballad and his "I'll Help You See It Through," that he worked on for years. The ballad captured fan attention due to its themes of enduring love, longing, and persistence after heartbreak. Lynott's own personal experience with relationships was behind the song's inspiration, having once reported that his songs are often autobiographical.

When creating the track, it was originally meant as a duet between Lynott and Moore. Following Moore's departure, the track was only credited on the album to Lynott, and Brian Robertson was recruited as his replacement. The guitarist would refuse to re-record Moore's solo, feeling that he wouldn't be able to improve upon it. At the time, Robertson was 17 years old, with the band's manager having lied to the recording label, saying he had originally played the solo instead of Moore.

"Still in Love With You" became a signature track for Thin Lizzy and was played during live performances until they split in 1983. A landmark live version was recorded during their "Bad Reputation" tour for their 1978 Live and Dangerous album and clocked in at over seven minutes long. The band would reform for tribute tours in 2011, playing the ballad in honor of Lynott after he died in 1986.

Dancing with the Stars’ new spinoff will feature the mother of one of the fans’ favorite pro dancers of all time. Plus, she’s a dance star in her own right!

Who is Shirley Ballas?

Born in the coastal town of Wallasey, England Shirley, 65, is a professional dancer. She began dancing at the age of seven. According to The Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (ISTD), Shirley is three time British Open to the World Latin American Champion, 10-time US Latin American Champion, and multiple-times British National Champion. “I won every major championship by the age of 22” worldwide, she recalled. Shirley stopped competing in 1996 but went on to become one of the top Ballroom and Latin teachers and judges in the world.

Yes, in her native Britain. Beginning in 2017, Ballas became famous across the pond when she replaced Len Goodman (also the respected DWTS judge, who passed away in 2023) as head judge of England’s Strictly Come Dancing. Shirley told the Guardian about her UK reality gig, “I think it’s got everything – it’s funny, it’s got glitz and glamour. You watch these people go through this emotional journey every single week and what you see is real. It’s not staged.” Shirley continues on Strictly and celebrated her ten-season show anniversary in 2025.

In January 2024, Shirley was eliminated and unmasked as the character “Rat” in The Masked Singer UK Season 5.

Has Shirley Ballas been married?

Shirley was engaged at age 16 to her dance partner, British ballroom champion Nigel Tiffany, but it didn’t last. However, as Hello reported, she said they were still friends in a sweet 2018 social media post.

In 1980, at 18, Shirley married her dance partner Sammy Stopford. As Hello reported, during their four-year marriage, her eye wandered. "After winning major trophies with Sammy, something was missing in my life, and then, out of the blue, I met this gentleman named Corky Ballas from Houston, Texas, and I fell in love," she said. There were no hard feelings and Shirley stayed friendly with ex-husband Sammy.

The beauty married American ballroom dancer Corky in 1985 and they relocated to Houston, welcoming their only child, son Mark, there in 1986. Shirley, known as “The Queen of Latin,” and her husband were electrifying dance partners as well, becoming the 1996 Open to the World International Champions, 1995–1996 Open to the World British Champions, two-time British National Champions, and seven-time undefeated United States International Latin Champions.

But their marriage faltered. Shirley said that after she and Corky had separated, he became involved with his dance student, Kristina Rihanoff, according to The Mirror. The Ballases divorced in 2007.

As longtime DWTS fans know, Corky performed as a pro in seasons 7 and 11, expertly steering two older stars: iconic comedienne Cloris Leachman and The Brady Bunch mom Florence Henderson (the two later passed away). Both times, Corky competed against son Mark.

Is Shirley Ballas married now?

In 2019, Shirley said she would wed her boyfriend, British actor Danny Taylor. But she called off their engagement in 2023 and they split up completely in November 2024.

Speaking on Paul C Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast in 2025, Shirley mused that she’s “married” to dance and added, “Every relationship has ended up being a disaster. With my last boyfriend I thought I’d found The One and that also didn’t work. I’m obsessed with what I am and with what I do.”

Yes! Mark Ballas is indeed the son of Shirley Ballas. Mark recently told Parade about his mom, “She’s come from some hard knocks. She had to defy a lot of odds to get to where she is in her field. And I love that about her.”

Shirley has admitted that her busy dance schedule meant missing some of Mark’s childhood. As she told Hello! in 2024, "I wasn't there for measles, first days of school, I was away for five Christmases. I look back at that and think, 'Should I have stayed away?' “My mom and I had a blast together,” Mark told CBS Mornings. He pointed out that so many DWTS pros owe a lot to Shirley. “She is one of the best. She coached me, Derek (Hough), Julianne (Hough), Pascha (Pashkov), Val (Chmerkovskiy), so many names that she’s coached over the years. She is really tough love. But I’ve been a [DWTS] pro for 20 years so we’re both looking at it the same way but we have different opinions. [The show will feature] lots of mother-son agreements and some cute disagreements. What is Marshals about?

With the Yellowstone Ranch behind him, Kayce (Grimes) joins an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana. Kayce and his teammates—Pete Calvin (Logan Marshall-Green), Belle Skinner (Arielle Kebbel), Andrea Cruz (Ash Santos) and Miles Kittle (Tatanka Means)—must balance the high psychological cost of serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence with their duty to their families, which for Kayce includes his son Tate (Brecken Merrill) and his confidantes Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) and Mo (Mo Brings Plenty) from the Broken Rock reservation.

Will Other Yellowstone Characters Appear?

It's unclear if we'll see any Yellowstone characters visiting Kayce in the new season. We know it's unlike Beth (Kelly Reilly) and RIp (Cole Hauser) will be visiting any time soon as they have their hands full down in Texas. Fingers crossed we'll see some old faces from the Bunkhouse or perhaps even Gator and his mouth-watering cooking.

Grimes spent five seasons playing Kacey Dutton, the youngest son of John Dutton (Kevin Costner). A former Navy SEAL, Kacey returns home to Montana and continues on in the family ranching business, but eventually becomes Commissioner of the Montana Livestock Association. He has struggled with PTSD, as well as the tug-of-war between his moral compass and his loyalty to the Dutton name. He was married to Monica (Kelsey Asbille) and they have a son, Tate (Brecken Merrill).

We didn’t get to see much of the leader of the Broken Rock Indian Reservation in season 4. While his efforts to take back the Dutton land for his people seem to be on the back burner for now, it’s bound to resurface at some point.

Fun fact: Birmingham was a petrochemical engineer before he got into acting.

Mo Brings Plenty as Mo

Mo is Rainwater’s Everyman, serving as his driver and assistant and all things in between. This season he takes on a larger role as he helps Kayce on his vision quest. Brings Plenty has been upped to series regular for season 5.

Yellowstone was Merrill's first professional acting role. He was only 9 years old when the show began filming. Now 17, Merrill has appeared in This Is Us, Lifeline and the upcoming project We All Got Up to Dance.

Logan Marshall-Green will star as Pete Calvin, one of Kayce's friends from his military days. Marshall-Green has starred in numerous films, such as The Invitation, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Upgrade and Carry-On. On TV, he's appeared on Damnation, And Just Like That… and Dark Blue. He stars in Christopher Nolan's upcoming epic The Odyssey.

Arielle Kebbel as Belle Skinner

Prior to pursuing acting full time, the Florida native had a successful career as a model, appearing in magazines such as FHM, Men's Health, and Maxim. She has appeared in several television series, including Gilmore Girls, The Vampire Diaries, and 9-1-1 and recently led the Fox series, Rescue: Hi Surf.

Kebbel has also starred in several Hallmark movies, including Bridal Wave, Sweet Surrender, and A Bride for Christmas. She recently starred in Lifetime's holiday movie, Thank God: Christmas at Keller Ranch.

Fun Fact: Kebbel got the call for Marshals only about a month after Rescue: Hi Surf was canceled!

Long before streaming playlists, John Paul Jones recorded one of the rarest songs of his post-Led Zeppelin career. Nearly two decades later, fans will finally hear it on major streaming platforms for the first time ever.

“Blooming Youth,” a haunting piece of traditional American roots music from Jones and old-time fiddler/singer-songwriter Rayna Gellert, was originally available only on CD. On July 31, it will enter the digital era and finally be available on streaming platforms.

Jones, who remained a core member of Led Zeppelin from its formation in 1968 to its official disbanding in 1980 following the tragic death of drummer John Bonham, is a highly versatile multi-instrumentalist who has spent decades exploring everything from avant-garde and jazz to folk and traditional American roots music.

Released in October 2008, "Blooming Youth" appeared on Awake, My Soul / Help Me to Sing, a companion record to Awake, My Soul, a documentary about Sacred Harp hymns. Gellert and Jones were invited to record their own interpretation of the traditional Sacred Harp hymns dating back to the 19th century.

The result was a hauntingly beautiful folk song rooted in Appalachian and early American hymnody.

“A tribute album by default, Help Me to Sing opens and closes with the otherworldly, sinner-in-crisis drone of ‘Blooming Youth, 176b,’ by Rayna Gellert and John Paul Jones,” Pitchfork wrote in its review of the "excellent" album at the time.

According to Led Zeppelin News, a “little-noticed copy” of the song has been circulating on YouTube for quite a while (see above), and the streaming release of both the companion and soundtrack albums coincides with the film's update and re-release.

Per the official synopsis, Awake, My Soul: The Story of the Sacred Harp “is the first feature documentary to explore the history, music, and traditions of Sacred Harp singing, the oldest distinctively American form of music. This haunting music has survived over 200 years tucked away from sight in the rural deep South and occurs mostly at community singing events, which typically include anywhere from a dozen to a couple of hundred singers.”
