If you haven’t been reading as much as you would like lately, there are plenty of riveting books that can help break you out of your reading rut. Recently, Oprah Daily has put together a list of the best books for “when you're stuck in a reading rut.” One of the books making the list is This is How You Lose the TimeWar by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone.

This science fiction book, which is described as “an epic love story spanning time and space,” has a 4.3-star rating on Amazon with over 19,000 reviews. It won a Hugo Award, Locus Award, and Nebula Award. It is about two rival agents who fall in love while exchanging letters.

“The chapters alternate between Red and Blue," Oprah Daily editor, Justine Anthony, explains. "They fall in love through a series of letters exchanged across time and space. The letters are written in the most intricate ways, such as bee stings, tea leaves, and burning lava.”

When asked how the book came together, Gladstone told Eliot Peper, “We knew we wanted to write a book together long before we knew we wanted to write this book. I came off a book tour one summer feeling a powerful need for solitude, and at the same time for deep connection, as one does after a week or two of the constant light chat that characterizes that sort of thing.”

El-Mohtar echoed the sentiment when speaking about the book with Civilian Reader. “We were inspired, first and foremost, by how much we liked each other and our respective writing!" she said. "First we read each other’s work, then we became friends, then we started writing each other letters, then we became better friends, then we said we should really collaborate on something together, and decided that a novella was roughly the right length for us to experiment with pairing our different voices and attempting to blend them into weird harmonies.”

When asked to describe the book, she said, “Think Griffin and Sabine meets Killing Eve by way of Steven Universe. Alternately, imagine if Florence + the Machine’s Lungs was a novella in which all the songs are sung to women in letter-form.”

Unlike meals, snacks are rarely thought out—which is why it’s so easy to munch on foods like chips, cheese puffs and packaged cookies. While you may not think that snack foods impact health all that much, scientific research says otherwise. 

According to a 2023 analysis published in Advances in Nutrition, regularly eating ultra-processed foods can increase the risk of type 2 diabetes, obesity, heart disease and cognitive decline. It can also raise your blood pressure. According to a 2021 study published in Public Health Nutrition, the more ultraprocessed foods you eat, the greater your risk of developing hypertension.

“The worst snacks for blood pressure are high in sodium, added sugar or saturated fat—which describes most of the packaged options,” Dr. Kainat Khalid, MD, a cardiologist and the director of Jamaica Hospital’s Hypertension Center in Richmond Hill, New York, tells Parade. “Salted chips and crackers can contain enormous amounts of sodium in a single sitting, and most people eat more than one serving. These foods are also engineered to be hard to stop eating, which makes the problem worse."

Dr. Allen J. Taylor, MD, FACC, the chairman of cardiology at MedStar Health and Vascular Institute, agrees. “Many ultra-processed snack foods are high in salt and preservatives, so they should be widely avoided. Currently, over 50% of calories in the U.S. are coming from ultra-processed foods, which is leading to all our problems with obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes,” he says.

How Eating Pistachios Impacts Blood Pressure

“Pistachios are a terrific choice,” Dr. Taylor says about this smart snack. He explains that one reason why eating pistachios supports blood pressure is that they’re high in unsaturated fats. According to a 2025 meta-analysis published in Asia Pacific Journal of Nutrition, omega-3 fatty acids (which pistachios are high in) cause blood vessels to relax and widen, allowing for better blood flow. They also contribute to better endothelial function, which means the lining of blood cells works more efficiently. 

“There is solid clinical evidence that regular pistachio consumption can lead to meaningful reductions in blood pressure. Pistachios appear to improve the flexibility and responsiveness of blood vessels, allowing them to dilate more easily and reducing the pressure the heart works against,” Dr. Khalid tells Parade.

Besides being high in omega-3 fatty acids, Dr. Khalid explains that the potassium and magnesium in pistachios also help improve blood pressure regulation. This is because they relax blood vessels and balance key electrolytes. 

According to a 2022 analysis published in Nutrition Reviews that looked at 17 studies and took into account 940 adults, snacking on pistachios significantly lowered blood pressure. But both cardiologists say that there is one important factor when it comes to eating pistachios to reduce blood pressure: it’s important to choose unsalted pistachios. 

“For anyone managing hypertension, regularly snacking on salted pistachios could meaningfully work against them. Switching to unsalted is a simple swap that makes a real difference,” Dr. Khalid says.

She explains that while salted pistachios still have the same benefits as unsalted pistachios, the added sodium can directly counteract the blood pressure benefits—especially for people who are sodium-sensitive, which is more common than most people realize.

Other Ways Snacking On Pistachios Supports Heart Health

Lowering blood pressure isn’t the only way that consuming pistachios supports cardiovascular health. Dr. Khalid explains that the nut can help lower cholesterol too. She explains that this is largely due to their high unsaturated fat content. “These fats help lower LDL cholesterol without reducing HDL cholesterol,” she says, adding that unsaturated fats also help lower inflammation.

Dr. Khalid points out that pistachios are also high in protein (which provides the body with energy) and fiber (linked to lowering the risk of cardiovascular disease). She adds that the combination of protein, fiber and unsaturated fats all packaged together in one nut makes pistachios a satisfying snack. Still, it’s important to be mindful of your snack portion and avoid overeating, which can lead to consuming excess calories and increase the risk of obesity.

“Heart-healthy eating doesn't have to be complicated. Pistachios are a great example of a food that is genuinely good for you and satisfying to eat,” Dr. Khalid says. “A small handful daily is the sweet spot for most people. Finding swaps that feel sustainable is the key to consistency, and the cardiovascular benefits will follow over time."

The Twilight Zone has dozens of creepy episodes that can keep viewers up at night. If you're searching for one that will leave you feeling unsettled, Looper recently ranked the most disturbing episodes. “It’s a Good Life” came in at number one.

This 1961 episode took place during season three and followed a young boy with psychic powers. The six-year-old, who could make things happen simply by thinking about them, ruled the town. He could read other people’s minds and could wish anyone who upset him away “to the cornfield.” Everyone around him lived in terror of him.

This disturbing episode, which was based on a short story by Jerome Bixby, was written by the showrunner, Rod Serling. It went on to become one of the most popular episodes in the series and helped inspire Twilight Zone: The Movie.

Since the episode starred an underage actor, played by Bill Mumy, there were rules about how long he could be on set each day. The director, James Sheldon, admitted that he could have gotten MGM in big trouble when he wanted one more shot of the child after the cutoff time had passed.

In Dimensions Behind the Twilight Zone: A Backstage Tribute to Television's Groundbreaking Series, Sheldon admitted, "Illegally, I went to his mother, who was a lovely lady, and I said, 'Could I just get one more shot?' I did, and it worked fine. But the next day the producers and the studio executive and everybody were on my back because if anybody had found out about that, I would have been in trouble. so I never did that again."

He continued, “I can remember I was always like, 'Oh, who cares?' I don't mean overwork the poor kid,  but if you've got a shot to get and you need an extra ten minutes, it's not the end of the world."

Of course, “It’s a Good Life” is iconic for another reason. The introduction that was used at the beginning of this episode was digitally edited for the preshow of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, a classic attraction at the Disney parks. In the attraction, a voice actor named Mark Silverman provides Serling’s voice while real footage of him plays.

In an interview with SYFY Wire, Silverman spoke about portraying the iconic star. He said, "There's no voice like his. I've never heard anybody pronounce words like that. Why does he say ‘ro-bit’ instead of 'ro-bot'? His distinct way of phrasing things and pronouncing words isn't like anything I've ever heard anybody else do."

He continued, "To become a voice of a Disney ride, a ride based on my favorite TV show, it was like a weird fantasy. It actually was like a Twilight Zone [episode]. It was just so crazy, it didn't make sense."

For tri-state families planning their holiday weekend itineraries, a legendary piece of regional amusement park history is officially back on line.

Following an extended closure that kept the attraction dark through the previous season, the iconic Dragon Coaster at Playland Park in Rye, New York, is welcoming riders back onto its tracks starting May 23. The historic wooden ride, which initially debuted back in May 1929, had been sitting idle since 2024 due to widespread structural safety assessments and management transitions at the park, as reported by people.com.

When Westchester County reclaimed operational oversight of the historic waterfront park, reviving the signature 85-foot-tall centerpiece became a top priority. Overcoming years of deferred maintenance required a meticulous, multi-million dollar structural overhaul. According to data shared by people.com, the targeted restoration of the coaster commanded a $1.4 million investment, which sits within a much broader $150 million capital improvement initiative dedicated to updating the entire park infrastructure to modern safety codes.

The architectural project relied heavily on specialized craftsmen who utilized premium marine-grade lumber to reinforce the aging framework, alongside replacing corroded metal fasteners throughout the 3,400 feet of track. The visual signature of the ride received an equally intensive upgrade: designers hand-painted 250 individual scales onto a completely new, 13,000-pound fiberglass dragon head that serves as the ride's tunnel entrance.

For generations of New Yorkers, the preservation of the Art Deco-era landmark carries a massive amount of nostalgia. While destination travelers often focus on massive corporate theme parks, local officials emphasize that Playland has long served as the quintessential accessible staycation spot for neighborhood families.

Kenneth Jenkins, a Westchester County executive, told the NY Times many local residents associate the park and its Dragon Coaster with coming of age and staycations. “They weren't going to Six Flags,” he said. “They may not even been going out to Coney Island. They definitely weren't going to Disney World. Their trip was to Playland.” 

The attraction also holds a permanent spot in pop culture history, notably serving as a filming location for classic movies like Tom Hanks' Big and the backdrop for Mariah Carey's iconic 1995 "Fantasy" music video.

As the park transitions into its 98th summer season, accessing the grounds remains completely free for visitors who just want to soak in the vintage boardwalk atmosphere, with separate wristbands available online for those looking to experience the restored lineup of historic rides.

If you’re a fan of cozy murder mysteries then It Happened One Murder by Liz Lawson needs to be on your list.

You’ll recognize Lawson’s name if you read young adult murder mysteries, with the likes of The Lucky Ones and Murder Between Friends, but now she’s making her adult novel debut!

It Happened One Murder is one of those stories that will resonate with almost everyone. Those who have been through their 20s will know what it’s like to think that you’re an adult now. You should know what you’re doing with your life.

That’s not the case, though, and it’s something Lawson touched on when we discussed the initial inspiration for the plot.

It Happened One Murder follows Harriet Baker, who left Logan Island for good. At least, that’s what she thought. When she ends up being let go from her job, she has to return home, and now she’s not even sure what to do with her life. All she knows is that there’s a murder she needs to solve.

“In my early 20s, I did a volunteer program and I moved in with my boyfriend the year after. I thought I was set in life, and then we broke up, and I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life,” LAwson got candid about her own experiences, “I moved back in with my parents. I was having a severe quarter-life crisis, and it’s something people talk about now than they did then. I thought my life was over, and I’ve always wanted to explore that time in a character.”

Sure enough, more and more people are talking about it now. As Lawson went on to explain, “Your 20s are so hard. You leave the structure of school, you leave the life you knew and are basically on your own for the first time.”

Now, people are documenting all of this on social media, and it’s giving likeminded adults a safe place to be. Sure, there are people who judge, but many 20-something don’t feel like they have their lives together. They’re more like Rachel Greene in Friends, running away from their own wedding and just trying to choose what they want to do with their life.

“There’s something very unique about that age, the 22 to 28 range,” Lawson shared, “You’re exploring and figuring out who you are and how to be in the world. I thought it was really interesting.”

That wasn’t the only reason she decided to switch from young adult to adult, though. There was also the fact that she was starting to get a little burned out writing young adult. She’s written four books now, but while writing two of them, she admits that she had been “dabbling” with this one.

“It took me a while to land on exactly what I was doing,” she admitted, while also sharing that writing characters a little closer to her age gave her a little more freedom.

One of the downsides any adult writing YA understands is trying to fit activities in around school. Suddenly, you have to work out how someone can get from point A to B without having a car or the freedom that an adult would. Then there’s the fact that weekends aren’t school days, and that’s a problem Lawson ran into more than once!

On top of that, she had more freedom when it came to who she was writing for, “When you’re writing kids, you’re shaping it for that audience, and you’re keeping in mind librarians and the structure of the industry and genre. With adults, you’re just adult readers, and they're the only people you need to keep in mind.”

Sure, it means a slightly different mindset, but it’s an enjoyable mindset to be in. So is the mystery genre, especially mashed with some romance.

“I think the mystery part came first,” Lawson told me, when I asked about the genre combination, “But I really also love the idea of mashing genres and putting a romance in almost because it's as important to the plot as the mystery.

“I love fun, cozy mysteries like The Thursday Murder Club, where it’s a mystery but there’s almost something else to it. There’s a relationship or a friendship, and I thought it would be really fun to try out.”

I wanted to know a little more about the decision to opt for cozy mystery rather than psychological thriller. Don’t get me wrong; I love a good psychological thriller, but there’s something relaxing about a cozy mystery, and Lawson touched on that, “They’re like a hug. Instead of feeling anxious when you’re reading, you’re having fun trying to figure out who did it. That’s also fun to write.”

It’s not surprising to hear that Lawson grew up reading Agatha Christie books, especially considering she co-wrote two books in The Agathas series, but that’s not the only reason she loves this specific genre.

It’s to do with the style of writing, as she went on to share, “I’m a very voice-driven writer. The character comes to me first, and I love fun banter on the page. That’s difficult to do in a psychological thriller.”

Since she brought up The Agathas, which made it to the New York Times Bestsellers list, I had to ask about more in the series. She and Kathleen Glasgow have two books so far, and for a long time, it looked like there wouldn’t be a third. For now, that is the case, but things could change, as there is a plan for a third, “We had a mystery running through it that we had planned on exploring in the third, so it’s set up.”

The two have since become close friends, and it’s not like they didn’t have fun writing the books! It’s all about the market, at this point.

For now, Lawson is looking ahead at another adult book, which will be a “companion novel” to It Happened One Murder. Lawson explained, “Two of the characters from the first one are the main characters, and it takes place in Italy during a wedding, and then there’s a murder.”

The focus for now is on It Happened One Murder, which will be released on May 26, 2026. This is perfect for fans of cozy murder mysteries mixed with romantic comedy.

“Can’t Buy Me Love” was originally released by The Beatles in 1964. A popular cover of the song was released later that same year by Ella Fitzgerald. Her version reached No. 34 in the UK, spending five weeks on the chart.

The cover was beloved by many, including The Beatles. According to Many Years From Now, Paul McCartney said, “‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ is my attempt to write a bluesy mode. The idea behind it was that all these material possessions are all very well but they won’t buy me what I really want. It was a very hooky song. Ella Fitzgerald later did a version of it which I was very honored by.”

He also spoke about the origin of the song, saying, “Personally, I think you can put any interpretation you want on anything, but when someone suggests that ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ is about a prostitute, I draw the line. That’s going too far.”

The song has lyrics like: “I'll give you all I've got to give if you say you love me too. I may not have a lot to give, but what I've got I'll give to you. I don't care too much for money. Money can't buy me love.”

The original song was also a huge hit, topping the charts in the United States, the UK, New Zealand, Ireland, South Africa, the Netherlands, France, and Sweden. In The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present, McCartney said, “The single did really well for us, getting to number one in the UK and US at the same time. And then, funnily enough, it was knocked off the number one spot in the UK by ‘A World Without Love’, a song I wrote for Jane Asher’s brother Peter.”

Fitzgerald, who was known as the Queen of Jazz, has performed many other popular covers over the years, like "Dream a Little Dream of Me" and “Mack the Knife.” Throughout the course of her career, she won 13 Grammy awards and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for her contributions to jazz.

Fitzgerald died in 1996 at the age of 79.

For fifteen years, the Green Lantern name has been a punchline. The 2011 film starring Ryan Reynolds was so thoroughly rejected by audiences and critics alike that Reynolds himself made a running joke out of it for years afterward. DC Comics fans have wanted a real shot at the characters ever since and on May 18, HBO finally gave them reason to believe one is coming.

The network dropped a second trailer for Lanterns, the upcoming eight-episode series premiering August 16 on HBO and HBO Max, and it answered just about every complaint fans had about the first one. The initial teaser, released in March, leaned so heavily into slow-burn detective drama (think True Detective in the heartland) that some viewers worried the show might forget it was about superheroes. One viewer's post asking where all the green was racked up hundreds of thousands of views when HBO playfully trolled them back with a photo of a green plastic basket.

The new footage leaves no room for that argument. Lanterns stars Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights) as Hal Jordan, the veteran Green Lantern, and Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) as John Stewart, a newcomer handpicked by the founders of the intergalactic police force known as the Lantern Corps. The trailer shows both actors in full costume, rings blazing, with Chandler's Jordan conjuring constructs and telling Stewart flat out 'this ring is the most powerful weapon in the universe.' The show runs across two timelines, a 2016 investigation into an alien-connected shooting in rural Nebraska, and a 2026 storyline set after the events of last year's Supermanfilm, with the mysteries intersecting as the season builds.

Reactions to this new trailer have been overwhelmingly positive. One commenter summed up the generally feeling like this: 'Now this is more like it. Let's gooo'.

The trailer also formally introduced Laura Linney to the cast, though her role remains under wraps, and confirmed that Nathan Fillion is returning as Guy Gardner from Superman. Sinestro, one of the most iconic villains in Green Lantern history, is played by Ulrich Thomsen.

The creative team is formidable. Showrunner Chris Mundy (Ozark) co-created the series alongside Damon Lindelof (Watchmen, The Leftovers) and comics writer Tom King. James Gunn and Peter Safran, the architects of the new DC Universe, executive produce.

What makes Lanterns worth watching for an audience beyond comic book devotees is likely the central tension the show is built around. It's two very different men with very different ideas about what it means to be chosen, and what you owe the people counting on you. That's a feeling that works for a lot of people whether you know Green Lantern lore or not.

The show arrives August 16. The ring, apparently, says they're ready.

Songs that speak of heartbreak often capture audiences' attention and become known as anthems of lost love. Singer Eugene Record developed a track while part of the soul group the Chi-Lites that became their one and only No. 1 hit on the charts.

The Chi-Lites formed out of high school in 1959, but didn't gain traction until the late 1960s and into the early 1970s. They released tracks like "Pretty Girl," "Baby It's Time," and their first charting track, "Give It Away," that landed in the top 10. The 1971 track "Have You Seen Her" also landed high on the charts. It wasn't until March 1972 that the Chi-Lites released "Oh Girl," which skyrocketed them to the top of the charts.

"Oh My Girl" is an R&B soul track often tagged as a ballad that was released as a single and later included in their A Lonely Man album. It soon topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts at No. 1 for one week. The track also landed the band at No.1 on Billboard's R&B charts and Cash Box, with it having done well overseas in the UK and Canada. "Oh My Girl" was a major shift for the Chi-Lites that led the track to be named as one of the top hits of 1973.

According to reports, the group appeared on Flip Wilson's highly-rated TV show to promote another track, "Seen Her." They played an unfinished cut of "Oh Girl" for Wilson that had everyone wanting the group to perform the track as their next song. The national TV exposure helped push the track on the charts.

According to SongFacts, Records told the Independent newspaper in 2005 that he initially dismissed the track. He believed "Oh Girl" wasn't gonna be a success for the group and recalled how, "I gave Carl Davis 7 songs on a tape and he called me to say there's a #1 tune on there. I named them all before 'Oh Girl' and I thought he was kidding."

The song became a known heartbreak anthem as its lyrics center on a relationship on the verge of a break-up. Records sings the track about a young man whose afraid of where his relationship is headed, realizing it's falling apart. The man begs not to be left, expressing regret and emotional vulnerability over losing a girl he cares about.

Record would soon leave the group after the track's release, with members being replaced and later re-formed in 1980.

Homosassa Springs, Florida, Named Top Retirement Destination

When it comes to retirement, you can't get much better than Florida. The state has tax-friendly laws that make it easy for retirees to protect their nest egg, while also offering a break from those cold northern winters.

According to U.S. News and World Report, those are just some of the factors that put Homosassa Springs at the top of their list of the Best Places to Retire. In fact, the town ranked number three on that list, number four on the Best Places to Live in Florida list, and number 205 on the overall Best Places to Live list.

How Much Does it Cost to Live in Homosassa Springs?

It looks like Homosassa Springs has a lot to offer budget-savvy retirees, including affordable housing. According to Zillow, the average home value is $232,432 as of April 2026, which is almost half the national average.

Additionally, BestPlaces notes that a single person would only need to make around $2,600 a month to live comfortably here, which works out to $31,200 for the year. While that's slightly more than the average Social Security payout, it is doable if you have invested well or if you have other income streams to supplement your payment.

In 1968, Tiny Tim’s“Tiptoe Thru’ the Tulips With Me” became a surprise hit. The song, written in 1929 by Al Dubin and Joe Burke and recorded in a falsetto voice for the cover version, appeared on the album God Bless Tiny Tim. It peaked at No. 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1968, becoming a one-off novelty hit for the eccentric ukulele player.

Tiny Tim famously performed “Tiptoe Thru' the Tulips” on the sketch comedy series Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In shortly before it was released as a single. While that was widely thought to be his first TV performance of the song, he later revealed he played it two years earlier on a daytime talk show.

“In March ’66, on coast-to-coast television. It was The Merv Griffin Show. It went over great,” Tiny Tim once told Scram magazine in an interview. "[I sang ‘Living in the Sunlight, Loving in the Moonlight']. I also sang 'Tiptoe Thru' the Tulips.' It brought the house down. However, the mail came in, and 99 percent of it asked, ‘What did you have on? What’s happening to this place?’ They were not happy, and Westinghouse canceled my next appearance due to the complaints.”

A whirlwind of success

After “Tiptoe Thru’ the Tulips” was released as a single, Tiny Tim appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson.

“Carson held up my album for the camera on his show before I came out to sing in April of ’68,” the singer recalled to Scram. “The first Carson show brought down the house. When I left, instead of going out the right way, I went backwards into the curtains. I was the first guest, and because I couldn’t get off the stage, he brought me over to sit down. And they were laughing at the jokes. I felt great elation to be on the show. He sold the album so well, and I decided, because I was so hot, not to go on the Joey Bishop or the Merv Griffin Shows.”

Tiny Tim had a whirlwind career fueled by his single hit song. He also made headlines for his tulip-themed televised wedding to Miss Vicki Budinger on the Dec. 17, 1969, episode of The Tonight Show, which drew in an estimated 40 million viewers, per IMDb.

A darker turn

Decades after it was a Billboard hit, “Tiptoe Thru’ the Tulips With Me” took on a darker role when it was featured in the 2010 horror filmInsidious. In a 2025 feature about Tiny Tim's novelty hit, Collider named it “the creepiest song of all time,” echoing the sentiments of the film’s director, James Wan.

In an interview with The Scorecard Review, Wan said, “When I first heard Tiny Tim’s version of ‘Tiptoe Thru' the Tulips,’ I said to [screenwriter] Leigh [Whannell], ‘This is one of the creepiest songs I’ve ever heard! It belongs in a serial killer movie.’ Where someone is cutting someone up, and something’s playing in the background. I told Leigh we needed to somehow get Tiny Tim in there."

The duo found a way to include it in the movie, and the rest is history.

Collider also ranked the scene, which features "Tiptoe Thru' the Tulips" playing as character Renai Lambert (Rose Byrne) sees a creepy-looking dancing boy outside her window, among Wan’s scariest movie scenes of all time. “Ostensibly, there's no reason the imagery in this scene should conjure up the stomach-churning dread it does – it's just a Newsies-looking little dude dancing to Tiny Tim -- but thanks to Wan's precise use of movement and framing, that jiving little specter is downright chilling,” the outlet noted.

The 1990s gave the TV-loving world plenty of iconic shows, from classic sitcoms like Friends and Seinfeldto groundbreaking dramas like Twin Peaks, The Sopranos and Sex and the City. But for all of those memorable and enduring series that came out of the decade, there are just as many titles that have been seemingly lost to time, many of them of the comedic variety. 14 Forgotten '90s Sitcoms That Are Worth A Revisit The cast of the CBS series "Northern Exposure"

1. 'Northern Exposure'

Airing on CBS from 1990 to 1995, the charming fish-out-of-water comedy Northern Exposure followed Dr. Joel Fleischman (Rob Morrow), a New York City doctor who is forced to relocate and practice medicine for four years in Cicely, a quirky small town in Alaska, because his med-school tuition was underwritten by the Alaska state government. (Just go with it.) There, the young doc served as the only general practitioner in the rural area and in the process gets to know the eccentric townsfolk, played by Barry Corbin, Janine Turner, John Cullum, Cynthia Geary, John Corbett, Darren E. Burrows, Peg Phillips and Elaine Miles.

Though the series isn't as remembered as some of its contemporaries of the era, it was a heavy hitter where awards are concerned, earning seven Emmys, two Golden Globes and a pair of Peabody Awards.

2. 'Two of a Kind'

They had already had breakthrough sitcom success as the youngest Tanner daughter Michelle on ABC's long-running series Full House, but sister-actresses Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen moved out on their own with Two of a Kind, which aired for a single season as part of the alphabet network's TGIF line-up from September 25, 1998 to July 9, 1999.

The real-life twins played a pair of 12-year-old sisters—tomboy Mary-Kate and girly-girl Ashley Burke—who live with their uptight widower father Kevin (Christopher Sieber) in Chicago, Illinois. Their lives get a jolt with the bubbly, free-spirited introduction of 26-year-old Carrie Moore (Sally Wheeler), one of Kevin's college students who joins the family as the girl's beloved babysitter, and potentially a love interest for dad.

3. 'NewsRadio'

From WKRP in Cincinnati to Frasier, several sitcoms have been set at radio stations and NewsRadio is an underrated member of that club. The NBC comedy, which aired for four seasons from March 1995 to May 1999, focused on the staff of WNYX, a fictional AM news radio station in New York City. Helmed by new director Dave Nelson (Dave Foley), the spirited ensemble includes Stephen Root, Andy Dick, Maura Tierney, Vicki Lewis,Joe Rogan, Khandi Alexander and Phil Hartman in one of his last acting roles.

Though it's not as much of a household name as later NBC workplace comedies, NewsRadio laid the comedic groundwork for future shows like 30 Rock, The Office and Parks and Recreation with its loveably nutty characters, sarcastic banter and absurd humor (yes, one episode does find the gang in space).

4. 'Two Guys and a Girl'

He'd later become one of Hollywood's most well-known leading men, but long before he donned Deadpool's mask and made everyone from Sandra Bullock to Isla Fisher swoon onscreen, Ryan Reynolds was a sitcom star playing one of the titular fellas of the four-season ABC comedy Two Guys and a Girl (also known as Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place for its first two, more college-era seasons).

Playing twentysomething slacker Michael Leslie "Berg" Bergen, Reynolds is joined by Richard Ruccolo and Traylor Howard as fellow series leads, as Peter "Pete" Dunville and Sharon Carter; he works at Beach Street Pizza with Berg, while Sharon is one of their Tufts University classmates. As you'd expect from a TV show starring Reynolds, the jokes were rapid-fire and often ridiculous.

4. 'Sports Night'

Aaron Sorkin went on to make more big-name television series, such as The West Wing and The Newsroom, but we've got a soft spot for Sports Night, his lesser known but equally great comedy show following a pair of best friends-slash-sports anchors Dan Rydell and Casey McCall (Josh Charles and Peter Krause, respectively) as they host the titular nightly cable program.

Also starring Felicity Huffman, Joshua Malina, Sabrina Lloyd and Robert Guillaume, the cancelled-too-soon sitcom only ran for two seasons on ABC from September 1998 to May 2000, but its short-lived run was seasoned with award wins (it took home three Emmys for directing, editing and cinematography) and notable guest stars like William H. Macy, Ted McGinley, Brenda Strong and Paula Marshall.

6. 'Bakersfield P.D.'

Before there was Brooklyn Nine-Nine, there was Bakersfield P.D., another single-camera police sitcom that originally aired on the Fox network for one season between September 1993 and August 1994. The funny procedural was based in the police department of the California city of Bakersfield, played by the likes of Giancarlo Esposito, Ron Eldard, Chris Mulkey, Tony Plana and Brian Doyle-Murray.

Though the series was ultimately cancelled after just 17 episodes due to low viewership, it was an ahead-of-its-time comedy marked by its deadpan humor, clever scripts and stellar ensemble, with The Los Angeles Times praising the show at the time as "a police spoof that is as witty as television gets."

From Will & Grace to Kenan & Kel to Beavis and Butt-Head, nineties TV was packed with dynamic duos but a pair that you may have forgotten over the years is Dharma Finkelstein (Jenna Elfman) and Greg Montgomery (Thomas Gibson), the opposites-attract couple at the center of the Chuck Lorre-created ABC sitcom Dharma & Greg.

The premise of the comedy is that free-spirited, hippie-raised yoga instructor Dharma and straight-laced, Ivy League-educated lawyer Greg impulsively decide to get married on their first date despite being seemingly polar opposites, a culture clash that successfully fueled five seasons of the show, from September 24, 1997, to April 30, 2002.

With her big-screen roles in Howard the Duck, Some Kind of Wonderful, Red Dawn and the Back to the Future film franchise, actress Lea Thompsonwas an '80s icon. But the 1990s saw the movie star delve into the world of sitcoms as the lead of Caroline in the City, an NBC sitcom that had a primo primetime spot between Seinfeld and ER on the network's coveted Thursday-night block.

Running for four seasons and 97 episodes between September 1995 and April 1999, the multi-camera comedy focused on title character Caroline Duffy, a successful cartoonist living in Manhattan, and her eccentric group of friends, played by Eric Lutes, Malcolm Gets and Amy Pietz.

The '90s movie it's based on is a time-honored classic, starring an instantly iconic cast including Alicia Silverstone, Paul Rudd, Brittany Murphy and Donald Faison. But the Clueless spinoff series, which aired on ABC for one season and UPN for two more from September 20, 1996, to May 25, 1999, had a far less memorable legacy.

Many of the movie's original actors reprised their roles, including Stacey Dash as Dionne, Elisa Donovan as Amber, Wallace Shawn as Mr. Hall, Twink Caplan as Ms. Geist and Faison as Murray—with cameos from Rudd and Murphy—but the TV version ultimately failed to match the quick-witted script and ever-so-fashionable world of the original. Still, it's a fun rewatch all the same to hang out with our fave students from Bronson Alcott High.

Comedy queen Margaret Cho made television history with her groundbreaking ABC sitcom All-American Girl, which became the first network primetime television series to star an Asian-American family. Based on Cho's stand-up routines as well as her experiences growing up in a Korean-American family in San Francisco, the half-hour comedy series starred Cho as Margaret Kim, the rebellious daughter of traditional immigrant parents (Jodi Long and Clyde Kusatsu), with BD Wong as Margaret's older brother and Amy Hill as her eccentric grandma.

The sitcom only ran for one season, from September 14, 1994, to March 15, 1995, but it was certainly a historic milestone for the medium and set the stage for successful future comedies like Fresh Off the Boat and Kim's Convenience.

His sisters were already leading their own successful sitcom—that would be Sister, Sister, the six-season comedy starring twin actresses Tia andTamara Mowry—so it made only sense that their real-life younger brother Tahj Mowry would get his own show.

Airing for three seasons on The WB from April 2, 1997, to May 16, 1999, the teen-focused series sees Tahj play boy genius T.J. Henderson who, at the age of 10, skips six grades and transfers to high school, where he has to navigate being the school's youngest-ever freshman among teenaged classmates, including two elder siblings Yvette (Essence Atkins) and Marcus (Jason Weaver).

12. 'Unhappily Ever After'

A spiritual (albeit slightly more surrealist) successor to Married...with Children, Unhappily Ever After was created by the duo behind that FOX sitcom, Ron Leavitt and Arthur Silver, but even though it aired for five seasons on The WB, the series hasn't remained in the collective consciousness the same way its predecessor has.

The network comedy centers on the dysfunctional Malloy family, made up of car-salesman dad Jack Malloy (Geoff Pierson)—who suffers from schizophrenia and regularly talks to a foul-mouthed stuffed rabbit named Mr. Floppy (voiced by Bobcat Goldthwait)—his ex-wife Jennie (Stephanie Hodge) and their three children Ryan (Kevin Connolly), Tiffany (Nikki Cox) and Ross (Justin Berfield).

They're best-known for their big-screen collaborations in films like Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World's End, among other, but long before all of those funny flicks, longtime pals Nick Frost andSimon Pegg were starring together in the Channel 4 sitcom Spaced, which aired for two seasons between September 1999 and April 2001 and was directed by fellow frequent collaborator Edgar Wright.

The British cult-favorite series—which was co-created and co-written by Pegg and Jessica Stevenson—sees the former play Tim Bisley, a London-based twenty-something who pretends to be romantically involved with a stranger to secure a cheap flat and fool the landlady Marsha Klein (Julia Deakin), with Frost as Tim's best friend Mike Watt.

Some classic workplace sitcoms are set in a traditional office, a cozy bar, a bustling newsroom or the halls of a hospital, but only one centers on a fictional airport: Wingslargely takes place at Tom Nevers Field airport, a small two-airline airport located in Nantucket, Massachusetts, where pilot-brothers Joe and Brian Hackett (played by Tim Daly and Steven Weber, respectively) own and operate the single-plan airline Sandpiper Air.

A spinoff of the far-more-famous series Cheers, the NBC sitcom did have a successful tenure on the network, cruising along for eight seasons and 172 episodes between April 1990 and May 1997. The ensemble also included Crystal Bernard, David Schramm, Thomas Haden Church, Tony Shalhoub, Farrah Forke and Amy Yasbeck, with Cheers regulars like Kelsey Grammer, Bebe Neuwirth, George Wendtand Kirstie Alley often dropping by to reprise their famous bar-going characters.

Phil Collins is stirring excitement among fans after delivering a major update regarding his career plans.

The music icon, known as a powerhouse drummer and vocalist for the band Genesis, who also has a successful solo music career, shed light on speculations regarding a possible comeback.

The award-winning singer set the record straight, revealing that he will skip performing at the upcoming Hall of Fame’s class of 2026, which will take place on Nov. 14 in Los Angeles.

“They asked me if I would perform and I said no, because you’ve got to be match fit to do something like that,” the “You’ll Be in My Heart” hitmaker said, adding “You’re going to have to rehearse and then by that point, if you’ve not been singing, your voice is going to be shot and then that’s not going to be good. So I’d rather not do it.”

In 2022, Collins officially retired from touring after concluding Genesis’ The Last Domino? Tour, making it the band’s final concert run.

The bold move was due to the frontman’s health battle, which has had a severe effect on his spinal nerves, prompting mobility issues, as well as his history of kidney failure caused by heavy drinking prior to years of sobriety.

Despite his condition leaving him unable to do live performances as he used to, Collins is not closing the door on any music opportunities in the future.

“I would contemplate, yeah,” the singer added. “I’m constantly saying to myself, I'd better go back down to my studio at home.”

It also means that the singer and songwriter still has creative ideas for music.

“Lots of lyrical ideas that I write down,” he furthered. “And there are things that are half-formed and a couple of things that are finished. There are things that I can get my teeth into to start working.”

Collins recently surprised fans after making a rare public appearance at Buckingham Palace.

The music icon was accompanied by his ex-wife Jill Tavelman, who joined The King’s Trust 50th anniversary together with fellow legend Rod Stewart and his wife Penny Lancaster.

Tavelman also marked the special moment on her Instagram, sharing some of the highlights during the event, noting how she and her ex-husband were honored to be part of the celebration.

39 years ago Princess Diana appeared at the 40th Cannes Film Festival in one of her most iconic looks: a romantic ice-blue gown featuring a softly sculpted bodice and matching scarf.

French-Russian actress Andrushkevich attended the premiere of Fjord wearing a strapless blue gown by Mehmet Ozden mirroring the princessy silhouette and chiffon scarf that characterized Diana's original ensemble.

Diana's dress was originally inspired by a costume that Grace Kelly wore in Alfred Hitchock's 1955 movie To Catch a Thief. The movie was set on the French Riviera, where Cannes is held every year.

Diana and Catherine Walker worked to recreate the ethereal icy drapes of the dress in order to pay homage to the Princess of Monaco, who had died in a car crash five years before.

When she heard the news Diana asked Queen Elizabeth II for permission to attend Kelly's funeral, which was granted.

Diana said that at the time her reasoning for wanting to go to the funeral was "because [Kelly] was an outsider who married into a big family, and I’ve done the same, so it would feel right."

After her divorce from Princes Charles, Diana put her Kelly-inspired gown up for auction with the proceeds going to charity. It was sold again at auction in 2013 for $132,000.

It was one of the dresses featured in an exhibition of Diana's fashion at her former home of Kensington Palace to mark the 20th anniversary of her death.

Iain Armitage is once again stealing the spotlight after sharing an unexpected reunion with the Young Sheldon cast.

The beloved former child star, who is known for his iconic role as the child-prodigy Sheldon Cooper, surprised his followers after sharing a series of adorable photos with his co-star Zoe Perry in London.

The actress played his religious and fiercely protective mother, Mary Cooper, in the hit CBS series.

In his latest Instagram post, Armitage affectionately referred to the 42-year-old star as his “fake mama,” instantly reminding viewers why the duo became one of television’s most beloved on-screen families.

“Just got to hang out with one of my favorite fake mamas, Zoe Perry. Always good to see you, Mama Zoe, especially in London!!” he captioned his post.

Interestingly, one photo featured the former child star hugging Perry, along with the phrase, “Always good to see my fake mother.”

Armitage also added playful clarification in the comments, writing, “To be clear, since day one we’d call each other 'fake mother/ son' like an inside joke lol.”

Following his social media update, the teen star’s post was flooded with heartwarming messages from Young Sheldon fans who swooned over the sweet reunion.

“I love this so much!” one wrote.

“This chemistry was perfect... Iain and Mary!” another echoed.

“I can hear her voice saying ‘Shelly!’” a commenter said.

“Shelly are you okay, say something," a fan remarked in reference to Perry’s line in the TV show.

Meanwhile, another fan recalled meeting Perry, noting, “I got to meet Zoe at a comic con. She is such a wonderful and kind person. Happy to see you get to reunite with her! Hope you got to see some of your other ‘fake family’ as well!”

On the other hand, the post also caught the attention of Young Sheldon co-star Matt Hobby, who played Pastor Jeff and wrote, “EACH PHOTO A MASTERPIECE.”

In 2017, CBS released the prequel to the hit series The Big Bang Theory, but the show mainly focused on the life of fan-favorite character Sheldon Cooper.

What made the show interesting to viewers was the chemistry among the cast members.

Apart from Armitage and Perry, the Young Sheldon cast included Lance Barber as the patriarch George Cooper.

Sheldon’s siblings, Georgie and twin sister Missy, were played by Montana Jordan and Raegan Revord.

Another fan favorite on the show was Annie Potts, who played Sheldon’s loving yet feisty grandmother, Memaw.

Like Perry, Armitage also formed a special bond with his honorary grandmother.

"Ms. Annie Potts is one of the coolest people I've ever gotten to work with or know," the teen star previously told Entertainment Tonight, adding "I'm always going to be her 'Moon Pie.' "

For seven seasons, the TV series gave fans heartfelt family moments and a comforting sense of nostalgia before concluding in 2024.
