Millions of moviegoers will remember actor Sam Neill for his performance as Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, but the beloved New Zealand-born actor also leaves behind a catalog of diverse performances that showcased his legendary range.

Neill passed away on Monday, July 13, at the age of 78, and movie fans and critics alike are looking back on the actor’s greatest roles. From Jane Campion’sThe Piano to his performance opposite Nicole Kidman in Dead Calm, Sam Neill moved effortlessly between film genres, from action-adventure to psychological horror and comedy.

A recent ranking names the 1994 John Carpenter classic In the Mouth of Madness Sam Neill’s greatest performance of all time. Originally overlooked by critics, the psychological horror film is now viewed as a genre classic. More than three decades after its release, the film has earned a devoted following, thanks in part to Neill’s portrayal of John Trent, a skeptical insurance investigator hired to locate a missing horror novelist.

In the film, Trent is convinced the author’s disappearance is nothing more than an elaborate publicity stunt. As his investigation unfolds, however, he slowly discovers the novelist’s books blur the line between fact and fiction, sending him into a terrifying descent of paranoia and madness.

The Guardian credited Neill’s transformation throughout the film as one of the greatest performances of his career, writing:

“John Carpenter’s sensationally loud and Lovecraftian horror movie features a brilliant, wall-rattling performance from Neill, who perfectly drives the human elements of this long under-appreciated film. He plays John Trent, an insurance investigator convinced that a mass hysteria event surrounding the release of a new horror novel is a PR trick. Audiences and critics may not have been ready for the film when it was released, but it has steadily built a passionate cult following. Acclaimed director Guillermo del Toro later championed the film on X, formerly Twitter, writing, “fun, smart, shocking Lovecraftian riff.”

Now regarded as one of John Carpenter’s finest films, In the Mouth of Madness is also considered one of Sam Neill’s defining performances. His remarkable transformation from skeptic to true believer helped secure the film’s place in horror history and cemented the role as one of the defining performances of his long and celebrated career.

Green, the Canadian native known for his myriad talents, ranging from The Tom Green Show to his surprising hit single "The Bum Bum Song (Lonely Swedish)," is a far cry from metal.

Now belting out country tunes and purposely living a quiet life away from the limelight on his Ontario farm, the man more known for his outlandish comedy, still slings jokes too, as he wrapped up his Stompin' Comedy Tour earlier this year.

Green has showcased a wide skillset from hip-hop, talk shows, to grotesque R-rated movies, but Drew Barrymore's ex-husband found himself onstage at Ottawa's Bluesfest adding to his resume as Limp Bizkit vocalist Durst invited him to 'rock out' with him to the band's most popular track, "Rollin'".

In typical Tom Green fashion, before the instantly recognizable riffs and DJ scratches kicked off, it was already chaotic with the comedian missing cues left and right — but hey, it was all in good fun and largely well received.

The crowd was just as raucous as you'd expect on the band's epic resurgence as guitarist Wes Borland recently claimed Limp Bizkit is 'the biggest we’ve ever been right now'.

Meg Tilly, who starred in the classic 1983 film The Big Chill, may not be an actress anymore, but the gray-haired stunner is having the time of her life alongside her sisterJennifer Tilly in Italy.

Meg, 66, skyrocketed to fame in The Big Chill, the beloved ’80s film that told the story of a group of former college friends who gathered for the funeral of Alex, one of their own, after his suicide. Starring Kevin Kline, Glenn Close, Tom Berenger, William Hurt, Jeff Goldblum, JoBeth Williams, and Mary Kay Place, the film became instantly associated with the baby boomer generation and their attempts to recapture their past. Tilly played Alex’s young girlfriend, who is still living on the property as the former University of Michigan students gather in his honor. She earned acclaim for her role and went on to earn an Oscar nomination for her next role in Agnes of God. But since then, Tilly has shied away from the spotlight, preferring to leave the bright lights of Hollywood to her older sister, Jennifer. She's even started a whole new career!

On her Instagram page, Jennifer surprised followers by featuring Meg in a post.

"Our first night in Taormina. #Sicily#Italy," Jennifer captioned the sweet sister photo, which showed the duo soaking up the Italian scene.

Growing up in Canada, money was tight for the Tilly family. Meg told the New York Times last year that they “could never have friends sleep over when we were growing up because there wouldn’t be enough for everyone to eat.”

My sneakers squeak as I take the corner too fast. Caine’s laughter is hot on my heels. “Watch out for monsters in the dark.”

I’m already suffering from a case of wobbly knees, and his words make my pulse skyrocket. Fear is snaking through me, wrapping around my organs. With every step, it tightens, making me breathless, though the dimness of the haunt has me moving at a slow jog.

I know exactly where I want to be found: the mirror maze. It’s essentially a figure eight, with a few dead ends for confusion’s sake. There, I can keep moving to evade Caine, work the loop, and change directions without being trapped the way I might in some of the other rooms. Though I’ve been in various halls of mirrors at different events, the Abattoir’s is unique. In addition to the expected large, mirrored panels, the walls are built at different angles, and there are hundreds of smaller mirrors mounted on the larger ones. The ceiling is mirrored as well. It’s mind-melting, giving the sensation that the whole space is about to fall in on itself. As I turn into the maze, anticipation makes me want to scream.

There’s faint, barely fluorescent residue left over from last year’s safety tape trail. When there are other lights going in the haunt, and numerous bodies moving through, the just-in-case-of-emergencies exit route identifier is not noticeable unless you know where to look. Now, the marks keep me grounded as I move through the maze, a dozen iterations of myself mimicking my movements. The way the mirrors are angled and layered means that not all images of me move in the same direction. Many are warped and misshapen. It’s as if I’m being stalked by doppelgängers.

A growl echoes through the haunt. Goosebumps creep down my arms.

“Time’s up, Little Red.” Caine’s voice carries, bouncing off the walls, making it impossible to tell where he’s coming from. Electricity streaks down my spine. My stomach flips deliciously. His voice is deeper, ominous. He’s using a modulator, which means he’s wearing a mask.

Yes.

I’m frozen in place, anticipation so strong it’s rooting me. “There she is.”

I yelp, whirling. Not even fifteen feet from me is a monster.

The wolf skull mask leers at me. With his black hoodie pulled up, dark jeans, and boots, Caine doesn’t blend into the darkness; he is the darkness. I can’t stop staring.

Run. Fight.

Do something.

I can’t. I’m frozen.

His growl is the satisfied sound of a predator with prey in its sights. It breaks the spell. I bolt, his chuckle chasing me the same way his footsteps do. The mirrors make me feel off balance, unable to go as fast as I’d like for fear of tipping over. On the back of my neck, my hair stands on end. I barely have time to think, This iswhatitfeelslikebeforelightningstrikes, before his arms close around me.

“Caught you.” The words come as he yanks me off the ground mid-stride. My back is against his chest; my heels drum the floor, rubber squeaking as I try and fail to get away. Each breath is a painful, ragged gasp. His hands roam my body, gripping and grabbing with a ferocity that makes me think of a wolf tearing apart its kill.

“Such a pretty little thing.” Words that should sound kind are cruel, the taunt unmistakable. “Is your p---y as pretty as the rest of you?”

My legs give out, catching us both by surprise. The drop is enough to free me from his hold. Desperation carries me deeper into the mirror maze. Above, beside, and ahead of me, I see my reflection, and the reflection of the monster hunting me. Calling him Caine feels inappropriate. In the mask, he isn’t—he’s a ruthless, loathsome predator. And I’m prey, acting on instinct, mindlessly fleeing, giving myself over to fear that would overwhelm me in reality. Here, I don’t have to find a solution or behave rationally. All I have to do is run. Maybe I’ll get away, and maybe I won’t, but that doesn’t matter: for the time being, I’m feeling, not thinking, and it’s decadent.

I’m aroused beyond the point of good sense, each step a struggle because I want to spin and offer myself to the monster. Enjoy every single second of being consumed.

Tomorrow I’ll deal with what this says about my psyche.

Prey for Me has already gained praise from authors who love this genre. Mixed with the mask and fear dynamics, it has a terrifying stalker plot that gives Caine a chance to shine as the hero, because stalking is sexy when it’s grounded in consent and understanding. Is there anything Tom Cruise can't do?

Hollywood legend, 64, took fans by surprise this week, and it had nothing to do with a stunt. His latest on-screen transformation left him almost unrecognizable, and that's exactly the reaction his upcoming film is going for.

Warner Bros. released the first trailer for Digger, the upcoming comedy helmed by Alejandro González Iñárritu, giving fans their clearest look yet at Cruise's oddball character, Digger Rockwell.

Thanks to heavy prosthetics, Cruise appears noticeably older and heavier than his usual on-screen self. Fans flooded the comments with excitement over the transformation. "Give Tom his Oscar now tbh," one wrote, while another added, "THAT CAN'T BE TOM CRUISE😭😭😭"

Fans have also started rooting for Cruise to win an award, with one saying, "Honestly, I feel like Tom Cruise is coming for his Oscar nod," and another calling it a role "Audiences aren't ready for how unique this is 🔥🔥👏👏."

One fan praised his range directly: "Wow, congrats Tom! It's so refreshing to see you finally playing an older character. Sending much love!❤️" Others kept the energy high, with comments like "He's definitely got that Oscar. This is going to be insane," "THE OSCAR IS YOURS KING," and simply, "THATS MY GOAT."

The role marks a real shift for Cruise, whose output over the past decade has centered almost entirely on the Mission: Impossible and Top Gun franchises. Digger is his first film outside of those two series since 2017's American Made.

Cruise reflected on what drew him to the project back in April at CinemaCon, where he appeared alongside Iñárritu to build buzz for the film. "This kind of movie is why I wanted to make movies… I have to say, it took 40 years for me to be able to put on the boots of Digger Rockwell," he said, as reported by Entertainment Weekly.

Digger hits theaters October 2, 2026.

Seinfeld has had many, many, many memorable guest actors over the years, a large majority of which helped the sitcom rise from yet another '90s comedy series into the laugh-out-loud TV audiences know and love today.

While we'll always hold a special place in our hearts for Larry David's George Steinbrenner or John O'Hurley's eccentric J. Peterman, part of us can only wonder about the endless possibilities behind Lawrence Tierney's curmudgeonly author, Alton Benes.

The gruff novelist father of Julia Louis-Dreyfus's Elaine, Tierney appeared in only a single episode of Seinfeld back in season 2's "The Jacket," which saw him share several awkward interactions with Jerry and George.

While it seemed like Tierney might eventually become a regular guest star in the same vein as Frank and Estelle Costanza or Morty and Helen Seinfeld, a strange incident on the Seinfeld set resulted in Tierney being permanently banned from the show.

As FamilyMinded described it, the veteran actor Tierney attempted to remove a large butcher knife from the set of Jerry's New York apartment, slipping the blade away into his jacket pocket.

When Seinfeld confronted him about the missing knife, Tierney apparently brandished the knife at the comedian in a mock stabbing motion, playing the incident off as a strange joke.

Reflecting on the incident in the season 2 DVD extras, Seinfeld's cast and crew revealed how "scared" they were of Tierney, with Jason Alexander saying that the actor "scared the living crap out of all of us."

Years later, Tierney's on-screen daughter Louis-Dreyfus shared similar sentiments when describing Tierney's performance, calling him a "total nutjob." However, the Veep actress also emphasized how talented a performer Tierney remained in front of the cameras, something that no doubt helped capture the awkwardness of his encounters with the show's characters.

For the first time in a quarter century, the King and Queen of Pop are sharing one of music's most exclusive spaces.

According to Billboard, Madonna and Michael Jackson both appear in this week's Billboard 200 Top 10, marking the first time they've done so together in 25 years. Madonna's Confessions II debuts at No. 1 on the July 18 chart, while Jackson's legendary Thriller remains a fixture at No. 8.

As surprising as it may seem given their enormous influence on popular music, this is only the second time the two superstars have ever occupied the Billboard 200 Top 10 simultaneously.

The first came on the Dec. 1, 2001 chart, when Jackson's Invincible sat at No. 4 while Madonna's GHV2: Greatest Hits Volume 2 debuted at No. 7. Their overlap proved fleeting, as both albums slipped out of the Top 10 the following week.

What's perhaps even more remarkable is how close they came to sharing the Top 10 during the height of their dominance in the 1980s. Madonna's Who's That Girl soundtrack spent its final week in the Top 10 just before Jackson's Bad debuted at No. 1. They missed one another by a single week.

That near miss is especially surprising considering how thoroughly the pair dominated the decade. Jackson spent 41 weeks atop the Billboard 200 during the 1980s, while Madonna added another 16 weeks at No. 1. Yet because their biggest releases rarely arrived at the same time, one of pop music's most famous pairings almost never crossed paths on the albums chart.

Madonna's return to No. 1 comes thanks to Confessions II, her acclaimed sequel to 2005's Confessions on a Dance Floor. The album reunites her with longtime collaborator Stuart Price and has been hailed by many critics as her strongest work in years, blending house, disco and electronic music while revisiting the dance-floor sound that helped define one of the most celebrated albums of her career.

The project has also delivered one of the biggest commercial weeks of Madonna's modern era. Confessions II earned 134,000 album-equivalent units in its opening week, becoming her biggest streaming week for an album, her largest album sales week since 2015, and her strongest overall debut since MDNA in 2012.

Meanwhile, Jackson's catalog continues to demonstrate extraordinary staying power more than 40 years after Thriller first changed pop music. Earlier this year, renewed interest surrounding the blockbuster Michael biopic sent four of his classic singles back onto the Billboard Hot 100 simultaneously, while multiple catalog albums climbed the charts as a new generation rediscovered his music.

With Confessions II debuting atop this week's chart and Thriller continuing its remarkable run decades after its original release, the King and Queen of Pop have once again made Billboard history. For two artists whose influence on modern music is virtually unmatched, it's a reminder that their legacies aren't simply enduring. They're still actively shaping the charts, 40 years after they routinely dominated the Billboard charts.

Kristy McNichol made a rare fan appearance with a popular ‘80s co-star from one of her fan-favorite films.

The ‘70s and '80s teen idol, 63, recently reunited with her The Pirate Movie co-star, Christopher Atkins, 65, at Fanboy Expo. The event, which also featured stars from Happy Days, Charlie's Angels, and the movie Mortal Kombat, was held July 10-12 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

In a photo shared to Atkins’ Instagram page on July 12, the two actors posed side by side holding a snake around their necks. McNichol appeared to be in good spirits as she leaned next to her co-star more than 40 years after the release of their musical movie. She wore her hair in a short, spiky cut along with a maroon shirt and gold hoop earrings.

The reunion had special meaning for fans of the 1982 film, which has developed a cult following over the years. Many commented on how “great” The Pirate Movie stars looked decades after filming the musical fantasy movie together.

"So happy to see Kristy again!!! Such an amazing actor. I have missed her,” one fan wrote.

“So cool to see you guys on the circuit & the pirate movie getting the love it deserves. Definitely a fav. First celebrity crush 😊,” another added.

“Great to see you both together 💕,” another fan agreed.

McNichol has made few public appearances in recent years, but in May, she reunited with Atkins in Los Angeles to promote a screening of The Pirate Movie, which was loosely based on the musical The Pirates of Penzance.

Atkins teased the July reunion during a recent guest spot on the Media Path Podcast, where he admitted that he struggled with singing in the movie. The actor also praised McNichol’s voice.

“Kristy can sing,” Atkins shared on the podcast. “If you listen to her voice, she can sing, but I think she had a band or something with her brother for a little while. She’s got a great voice. I just love her voice. And I'll tell you, she emailed me today because we're going to be signing autographs for The Pirate Movie in Knoxville at Fanboy Expo this weekend. ... It’ll be Kristy and I.”

McNichol was one of the biggest teen stars of the 1970s and early 80s. After starring in TV shows and movies such as Family and Little Darlings, she appeared in the 1980s sitcomEmpty Nest. McNichol stepped away from Hollywood in the 1990s.

In 2014, she told People magazine, “I was on the big stage between ages 8 and 30. I left show business for a variety of reasons, but a big one was my interest in learning what else there is in life.”

“This phase of my life is so good,” she added. “My home life is happy and serene. I love singing. I also enjoy traveling and seeing the world.”

Years later, fans are happy to see McNichol making a return to fan events.

Erling Haaland may have been knocked out of the World Cup, but he wasn’t about to leave Miami without one last night out.

The Norwegian soccer star went viral (again) after he was spotted dancing inside the popular Miami club E11EVEN in the early hours of Sunday morning, just hours after Norway’s historic tournament run ended with a 2-1 extra-time loss to England. The quarterfinal defeat sent England through to the semifinals while eliminating Norway.

According to Rolling Stone, Haaland reportedly arrived at the downtown nightclub shortly after 1:30 a.m. with several teammates, including Alexander Sørloth, Antonio Nusa, and Oscar Bobb. The group settled into a second-floor VIP booth, where they danced and mingled before Flo Rida took the stage around 3:30 a.m.

Video on Instagram from the night showed Haaland singing along to the rapper’s 2007 hit “Low” as his teammates hyped him up. Flo Rida even acknowledged the team during his set, telling the crowd, “Give it up for Norway in the house,” prompting Haaland to sweetly wave from above. The footage gave fans one final entertaining moment from a player that became one of the internets favorite over the past few weeks.

“He wanted to sit out at the end so he can stay up for the club,” one fan quipped.

The celebratory outing came after a frustrating evening on the field. Norway briefly appeared to regain the lead against England, but the goal was overturned after officials ruled Haaland had pushed midfielder Elliot Anderson during the buildup. Jude Bellingham ultimately scored twice to secure England’s 2-1 win in extra time.

By the following day, Haaland was ready to say goodbye. The 25-year-old shared a selfie on Instagram from a bus while wearing sunglasses and a backwards hat, captioning the Instagram post, “Goodbye 🇺🇸 It’s been emotional!”

We've always adored simple, yet effective beauty tricks, so when Garshick shared her go-to tip for applying serum, we were relieved to hear that it was refreshingly straightforward.

"One serum trick that some people don't realize is that certain serums, specifically hydrating serums containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid and glycerin, are actually more effective when applied to damp skin," she tells Parade.

For this reason, the dermatologist notes that's it's best to apply these serums right after cleansing so the skin can better absorb them. If you need to wait a bit after cleansing, there's still another way to obtain the same benefit.

"Spray skin with a thermal spring water just prior to applying the serum," she says.

On the other hand, if you're applying anything other than a hydrating serum, it's best to wait until your skin is dry to apply it.

"Serums containing active ingredients like retinol or vitamin C can actually be more irritating if applied to damp skin," Garshick says.

Serums can be pretty pricey, so ensuring that you apply them for maximum absorption and skincare benefits is always top of mind for many beauty buffs. To get started, Garshick recommends using only a few drops and gently pressing the serum into skin.

"Use your fingertips rather than aggressively rubbing it in," she says. "Pressing helps minimizing unnecessary friction while ensuring adequate absorption."

Since every serum has a different skincare goal in mind, layering them is sometimes the best way to supercharge your routine. The act of layering any skincare products can feel intimidating, but Garshick says it's really quite easy if you follow one simple rule.

"When layering serums, I generally recommend applying products from thinnest to thickest. This helps ensure each product can properly penetrate the skin," she explains. 

For example, the derm is a fan of Circadia Myo-Cyte Anti-Wrinkle Serum and RescueMD DNA Repair Complex. In the case of these two products, she recommends starting off with the anti-wrinkle serum then following it with the creamier repair complex.

Similar to other skincare products, serums should be applied at a specific point in your skincare routine if you want to glean all the benefits they have to offer.

"Serums are generally applied after cleansing and before moisturizer. This allows the concentrated active ingredients to come into direct contact with the skin and for optimal absorption," Garshick says.

The ideal timing can also depend on the ingredients in the product.

"Antioxidant serums, such as those with vitamin C, are often best used in the morning to help defend against environmental stressors. Repair serums, growth factor serums, DNA repair serums and retinoid-containing products are best in an evening routine," the derm explains.

Want to set your skincare routine up for success? Garshick shares five common serum mistakes to avoid if you want to see results.

With serums, less is really more.

"Some people assume more serum will deliver better results, but using too much amounts can lead to pilling and irritation. Most serums require only a few drops to cover the entire face," Garshick tells Parade.

Your skin is pretty resilient, but you shouldn't test it by using too many potentially irritating ingredients together.

"Combining multiple potent actives (such as retinoids, exfoliating acids and vitamin C) can increase irritation without necessarily improving results. Unless otherwise recommended or formulated into the same product, don't combine too many ingredients at the same time," Garshick warns.

Skincare needs vary from one complexion to the next. For this reason, it's best to listen to your skin instead of trying a product just because it's trendy.

"A serum that works well for one person may not be right for another. Choose ingredients based on your specific concerns, whether it's pigmentation, redness, dryness, signs of aging or post-procedure recovery," Garshick says.

With so many serums to choose from, finding the right formulation for your unique skin type is critical.

"Lightweight serums may be preferable for oily or acne-prone skin, while slightly richer formulations can be beneficial for dry, mature or post-procedure skin," Garshick says.

Skincare routines are truly an exercise in patience, and you won't immediately notice an improvement when you start using a new product.

"Most serums require consistent use over several weeks to months to see benefits. Patience and consistency are essential for achieving the best outcomes," Garshick says.

In 1971, radio was dominated by the velvety vocals of Karen Carpenter and the lush arrangements of her brother, Richard.

It seemed like every song the Carpenters released became a Billboard Top 10 hit. But one of their most emotionally raw masterpieces didn't follow suit.

When the duo debuted "I Won't Last a Day Without You," the song was initially met with a surprising wave of silence. It took two full years before the tune finally hit its stride.

However, instead of hitting the Top 10, following in the footsteps of other classic Carpenters' hits such as "Goodbye to Love," "For All We Know," and others, "I Won't Last a Day Without You" stalled at No. 11 in May 1974. It was the brother/sister duo's first song not to crack the Top 10 in four years.

According to U Discover Music, the song was penned by Paul Williams and its melody was written by Roger Nichols. The Carpenters' recording was a second go-around for "I Won't Last a Day Without You," as Williams previously released a version in 1973.

Songfacts reported, "This song was the fifth and final single from the album A Song For You. It was originally only an album track; 2 years passed before it was released as a single." The LP had previously spawned three big hit singles: 'Sing,' 'Yesterday Once More,' and 'Top of the World.'”

The website continued, "During 1973-74, the Carpenters found themselves with a busy touring schedule, which kept them from working on new material. As a result, they had no album issued for the year 1974, but decided to choose this song for a single release."

Interestingly, the group's following single, “Please Mr. Postman,” hit No. 1 in January 1975. U Discover Music claimed that "I Won't Last a Day" was "unlucky" as it did not reach the top 10 and it had a release date of April 13th.

In an interview with NPR, Richard said that he and Karen both “knew" they possessed something special as musicians, singers, and arrangers. The song’s slow climb was a definitive sign of the historic legacy the duo were about to build.

“I’ve been asked that plenty, and I’ve thought about it plenty. Karen, at once, could realize that she could do just about anything vocally. And when it came to recording, as far as punching in or anything, she just knew; the both of us knew, we can do that. So to me, Karen, at once, both knew just what an instrument she possessed and a gift.”

Karen Carpenter died in February 1983. Richard Carpenter continues to keep the Carpenters’ legacy alive by curating their music, releasing posthumous collections, and occasionally performing.

For many actors, Hollywood fame is the ultimate goal. But for Sam Neill, becoming a household name never meant giving up the quiet life he loved.

The Jurassic Park star built a legendary career spanning more than five decades, appearing in blockbuster films, critically acclaimed dramas and beloved television shows. Yet despite his success, Neill never wanted to fully immerse himself in the Hollywood lifestyle.

Instead of chasing celebrity status, Neill chose to split his time between acting and his rural home in New Zealand, where he raised animals, grew produce and operated a vineyard.

In interviews, Neill was candid about why he never wanted to permanently live in Los Angeles. After spending about a year and a half there, he realized it wasn't the right fit for him or his family.

"I didn’t love LA," Neill explained to The New Zealand Herald in 2024, saying he felt there was little beyond the entertainment industry and that the constant focus on show business wasn't the life he wanted. He said he preferred having a balance between performing and rural life, adding that farming and winemaking helped keep him grounded.

For Neill, there was a difference between being a successful actor and being a celebrity. He often said he valued privacy and enjoyed being able to live a relatively normal life away from the spotlight.

That decision never stopped him from becoming one of the industry's most recognizable actors. After his breakthrough in films like Dead Calm, Neill went on to star as Dr. Alan Grant in Jurassic Park, a role that made him internationally famous.

But unlike many stars who move closer to Hollywood as their fame grows, Neill moved in the opposite direction. He built a life where acting was just one part of who he was. Not the entire identity.

"I farm, I grow wine, and that keeps me sane," Neill elaborated in that same interview, describing the balance that allowed him to enjoy both his career and his personal life.

For fans who admired Neill's understated personality, his choice was fitting. Even after achieving international fame, he never seemed interested in being anything other than himself: a respected actor, a devoted farmer and someone who valued a quieter kind of success.

Neill died on Monday, July 13, 2026, in Sydney, Australia, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 78.

The team behind Peaky Blinders is paying tribute to Sam Neill following the actor's "sudden and unexpected" death at the age of 78.

“We are devastated to hear that Sam Neill has died," read a post on the show's official Instagram page shared on Monday, July 13.

Neill played the ruthless detective chief inspector Chester Campbell in the first two seasons of the beloved organized crime drama, a performance Peaky Blinders praised as "one for the ages."

"A villain who is despicable, petty, manipulative, but also charismatic, vulnerable, funny, and supremely entertaining to watch," the post continued. "Sam was one of the key forces that got Peaky Blinders off to a running start, for which we will be forever grateful."

The tribute concluded, "Our love and thoughts are with his family."

Peaky Blinders fans were quick to remember Neill's performance in the comments, with one person writing, "Man, that was such a phenomenal portrayal of his character in those first couple of seasons!!" Another Instagram user commented, "Best villain in the show. We'll miss him," as a third added, "An Actor with a capital A. An immense loss."

Neill's family announced his passing on Instagram on Monday, July 13, saying that the loss of the Jurassic Park star was "sudden and unexpected."

“Sam was surrounded by family and passed with the dignity that has characterized his whole life,” their statement read, in part. “The loss was sudden and unexpected but blessed by the fact that Sam remained cancer free. They would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff at St Vincent’s Private Hospital for their incredible care."

"More details will be shared later, but for now, on behalf of the family, we ask that you respect their privacy as they navigate this immeasurable loss," the family concluded.

Below Deck Mediterranean deckhand Joe Bradley thought he knew where he stood with Bosun Nathan Gallagher—until he watched the season back.

Speaking with Parade, Joe reveals he was blindsided to learn Nathan had considered promoting Luke Brumer over him for lead deckhand, saying the revelation only reinforced why he wouldn't even "share the dinner table" with his former boss.

"I only found out that Luke was being considered [for lead deckhand] while I was watching the show," Joe says. "But even if Luke had gotten that position, I'm a professional. I'll step back, and I'll listen to the chain of command, because that's who I am, and that's how a yacht should work, is you follow the chain of command."

He adds, "That might sound a bit hypocritical because Nathan's in charge and I'm saying, yeah, I can do better. But the fact he chose emotion over pure leadership is questionable. If anything, it would have been very entertaining if he did choose Luke. Not because of the lack of experience that Luke has got, it's just because of the chaos that would have caused. And I just would have had to pick up the pieces."

Joe also says he still doesn't understand what caused Nathan to turn on him, especially after the two had once been close friends.

"To be honest, even to this day, I don't even know what I've actually done for him to hate me in this drastic way," Joe says. "Like the fact that he's acting on pure emotion and trying to cripple me in a sense because he knows—I don't want to blow my own trumpet—but he knows what I'm like with my job. I take my job very seriously. I might make the odd decision with the ladies on a night out and stuff like that, but my job is my everything."

While reflecting on his past, Joe also reveals he is actively trying to "become a better man" after recognizing the harm his actions have caused, sharing that he is currently seeking therapy to better understand himself and improve his behavior.

He called the situation with Victoria "V" SanJuan his "biggest regret," saying he would apologize and take full responsibility for hurting her. He admitted alcohol has contributed to some poor decisions but stressed that being young is "no excuse." Now, he says he's taking a different approach because he knows what he's capable of and doesn't want to hurt people again.

Joe says he had no idea Nathan would be the bosun this season or that he "had such a hatred...and I'm going to use the word hate because you can see it in his eyes that he didn't want me there," adding, "but him using the words how I've been treating women, well, I can say a few things about Nathan, how he's treated women and it's not very healthy, but that's another story."

Joe acknowledges that his previous dispute with Gael Cameron likely contributed to the tension between them. But he says that by the time filming began, Gael and Nathan had welcomed their baby while his own mother had been diagnosed with cancer, leaving him hopeful they could put the past behind them and focus on work.

Instead, Joe claims, "Any opportunity that he gets that I do, that's a tiny bit bad, he attacks because that's Nathan."

Their relationship may be heated now, but is there any hope the two could repair their friendship? Joe isn't convinced.

"I know who Nathan is, I know what he's capable of," Joe says. "Would I like to beat it in the butt? I would, but I wouldn't share the dinner at the same dinner table."

In The Gilded Blade, the grandest of games will be played. There is everything to win or lose, whether it’s for a player from Texas, London, or the Hawthorne family. Old allies are put to the test, as new partnerships form in an attempt to take it all.

Of course, that means secrets are revealed, puzzles are solved, and mysteries are unraveled at lightning speed. Watch out, because the truth can turn out to be the deadliest weapon of all. Not that the Hawthornes haven’t found that out already!

The Gilded Games will pick up off the back of the events of Glorious Rivals. The biggest question for everyone is what happened to Avery Grambs. She straight-up disappeared, and we found out that she’s woken in a strange white room with a complex maze etched into the walls. This is the big plot point to remember for the excerpt Parade has the honor of sharing.

Jameson Hawthorne does not want to hear the name Alice Hawthorne ever again. Alice had her hands in the Second Grandest Games, and that’s led to Avery going missing. Jameson has a note from Avery to say that she’s not missing, but is that really from her? Take a look at the excerpt and come to your own conclusions, as Jameson makes it clear that he is not going to let his Heiress go.

Chapter 1

JAMESON

Jameson Hawthorne was terrible at hurting. When he hurt, he took risks—more and more and bigger and more risks, dancing hand-in‑hand with danger and letting it all ride.

But that wasn’t what this was.

This was a private jet headed for Prague, and Jameson was a man on a mission. For more than a year and a half, he’d let this mystery lie. He’d exercised damn near superhuman restraint and resisted every impulse to look for answers about his “dead” grandmother. Jameson had pretended there was no mystery— to keep Avery safe, to keep his brothers safe.

And now Avery was gone, and Grayson was the reason why.

I told him not to even say the name Alice Hawthorne, Jameson thought dully, but there was nothing dull about the pain his brother’s refusal to stop had wrought. The enormity of it robbed the air from Jameson’s lungs with every third breath. He wanted to tear the entire world apart— but he’d start with Prague, and though it went against every instinct he had, he’d fight the pulse-​pounding urge to be reckless. He’d exercise caution and discretion and a lamentable amount of self- preservation, because that was what Avery would want.

She’s fine, Jameson thought viciously, desperately. She has to be. He stared at the note Avery had left, and it stared right back at him.

Jameson had read the words a hundred times already, had scoured the message for hidden meaning, for invisible ink, for a code of any kind. Other than the lemniscate at the bottom, there was nothing. As for that little infinity symbol, either the note had been written under duress, and the lemniscate was the only secret message she’d been able to sneak in, or Avery had meant every word she’d written, in which case, that symbol might have meant something closer to I love you, always, forever.

To Jameson, that felt treacherously close to the good-​bye.

Like hell, Heiress. The fact that the note said to keep the press in the dark seemed to suggest, if taken at face value, that Avery was at least hoping to return. She’d never expect them to be able to hide her absence indefinitely. But for Jameson, hope wasn’t enough. Not given the circumstances. Not when he knew that Alice was dangerous.

And I know you, Heiress. Jameson knew that if Avery had chosen to disappear, to leave them like this, if she’d willingly gone with Alice or anyone else, she’d almost certainly have done so for a noble reason. And Jameson also knew that if their positions had been reversed, if he or any of his brothers had disappeared under dangerous circumstances, there was no way in hell Avery would have just sat back and hoped everything turned out fine.

Note or no note, Avery would have looked for them, but she would have been smart about it. Cautious. Discreet. In an attempt to hold it together the way she would have, Jameson pressed his fingers to the lemniscate Avery had drawn and allowed a memory to wash over him.

Like the sun and the moon, I loved her . . .

A muscle in Jameson’s jaw trembled as he thought of a note he had once written, a clue in an elaborate game of his own design. During that game, Jameson had given Avery an infinity ring—and a promise that someday, he’d give her a ring of a different sort.

Prague was where Jameson had made that promise. Prague was where he’d come face‑to‑face with his dead grandmother very much alive. Prague was where threats had been issued, where Jameson’s blood had been shed. If the lemniscate on the bottom of Avery’s note was a coded message, that message was: Go to Prague. And if Avery hadn’t

meant it that way . . .

Jameson was damn well going anyway. I’ll be smart about it, Heiress.I’ll be careful if it kills me. But I’m going.

Restless and feeling the confines of the jet like a cage, Jameson closed his eyes and tried to calm himself by thinking all the way back to the beginning, or very close to it, to stepping out of a fireplace and into Avery’s room at Hawthorne House. He thought about the way she’d looked in those ratty-​thin pajamas of hers, tangled hair falling into her face. Right from the start, Avery Grambs had cut straight through all of Jameson’s defenses, demolishing every last layer of artifice.

Right from the start, he’d known she was something special.

Jameson swallowed but refused to open his eyes. He needed to sleep, no matter how impossible that seemed. It would be hours before he landed in Prague, and when he did, he needed to be sharp. He needed to be able to think with perfect clarity, to see nine moves ahead.

So he held the image of Avery in his mind and breathed in and out and willed his wild, churning mind to still, sinking deeper into memories of her, of them.

Heads or tails, Heiress. Heads you want me to come after you, tails you don’t, but either way, I’m coming. I won’t let anyone hurt you. I can’t.

Either way, I will fight for you.

Either way, all I have and all I am is yours.

What’s old is new again at Popeyes, thanks to the return of a popular menu item. The fried chicken restaurant is bringing back its cheesy bites for a limited time, adding an “irresistible” twist to its existing menu. 

The cheesy bites, which fans may remember from the limited-time Freddy Fazbear Crunch Menu from November 2025, are lightly breaded cheese curds that are simultaneously crunchy and melty. Just like in the Five Nights at Freddy's 2 menu, the cheesy bites will be available for $3.99, and will make “an irresistible add-on” for customers, a representative for Popeyes told Parade.

“Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria is an iconic part of the film, so we had a blast reimagining that fun, over-the-top energy through our menu. It’s our way of giving fans a delicious taste of the movie’s universe, where that iconic Popeyes flavor meets a little bit of nostalgic pizzeria mystery,” Amy Alarcon, VP of Culinary at Popeyes, said last fall. 

The return of the cheesy bites is not the only addition coming to the Popeyes menu, as starting today, the $5 Faves menu is getting an upgrade by way of an 8-piece butterfly shrimp menu item. Customers will be able to enjoy the new item for just $5, and will have the choice of four bold flavors: buffalo, garlic parm, lemon pepper, or ghost pepper.

“We know our guests are looking for great food at a great price, and our returning $5 Faves Menu delivers exactly that. Whether it’s a Popeyes favorite they already love or something new like our Butterfly Shrimp, every item is designed to bring bold Louisiana flavor, more choice, and unbeatable value, all for just $5,” a representative for Popeyes told Parade in a statement. 

In addition to the butterfly shrimp, Popeyes fans can also enjoy other favorites on the chain’s value menu, including 3-piece chicken tenders or 3-piece signature chicken, as well as the iconic Popeyes chicken sandwich.

It's the meeting of the Tom Hollands!

Spider-Man: Brand New Day actor Tom Holland just came face-to-face with famous author and historian Tom Holland for the first time during the Sunday, July 12, episode of the author's The Rest Is History podcast—and there was a bit of confusion to clear up regarding their matching names.

The meta episode of The Rest Is History began with a slight commotion over who would sit in the chair labeled "Tom Holland," before the historian, 58, introduced his special guest, "the real Tom Holland."

"Not the real Tom Holland," the actor, 30, said as he jumped in. "The other Tom Holland."

"I know my place," the podcaster joked. "And were I the kind of person who regularly Googled himself, I mean, you would have destroyed my ability to do that."

The Avengers actor responded, "I’m sorry, Tom," to which the author responded, "Well, I don’t Google myself, so it’s absolutely fine."

The two then jumped into a discussion of Christopher Nolan's new adaptation of The Odyssey, which stars the actor as Telemachus, the son of Matt Damon's Odysseus.

"Turning [The Odyssey] into a film feels like you’d have to make five films [because] it’s such a vast piece of work," the actor told his historian counterpart. "But Chris’s ability to tell that story in 130 pages while maintaining the heart and the soul of what makes the story so exciting, so emotional, so relevant today, I think it’s just such a feat."

The actor continued that he sees his character's role in the film, out July 17, as representing the "reality of the story," while Odysseus' "represents the myth and this humongous game of telephone that has been played with this text."

He added, "What I love about the creative choices that Chris has made on that side of the story is that he’s kind of pushed the boundaries of what might be deemed historically accurate or reality because that is the myth."
