Iconic ’70s Rock Band Quietly Reunited 10 Years After Breakup for a Secret Show

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 2:47pm

In 1990, one of rock music’s most legendary bands quietly reunited for a performance that only a handful of people ever witnessed.

Nearly 10 years after the death of drummer John Bonham in September 1980 led to the band’s breakup, the surviving members of Led ZeppelinJohn Paul Jones, Jimmy PageandRobert Plant—took the stage together for a secret wedding reception performance at a hotel in the small town of Bewdley in Worcestershire, England.

The little-known reunion was recently revisited by Classic Rock Mag in a feature detailing the private April 28, 1990 performance, which took place during the wedding celebration for Bonham’s son, drummer Jason Bonham.

After marrying Jan Charteris at St. Mary’s the Virgin church in Stone, Worcestershire, the wedding party traveled to the Heath Hotel in Bewdley, where guests gathered for what initially appeared to be a normal reception complete with beer and meat pies.

Then the surviving members of Led Zeppelin walked onstage.

Photographer Justin Thomas, who famously gatecrashed the wedding after hearing rumors the band might reunite, later recalled the surreal moment to Classic Rock.

“I’d gotten word that there was the chance that Zeppelin might get back together for the occasion,” Thomas said. “So I got out my suit and went down to the church and blended in.”

Thomas said he expected trouble after being spotted by legendary Led Zeppelin manager Peter Grant.

“I thought I was in real trouble,” he recalled. “I was ready for my camera being smashed and my kneecaps going. But he was the perfect gentleman, very polite and friendly.”

After spending hours at the reception, Thomas said the atmosphere suddenly changed once the evening entertainment ended.

“The Steve Gibbons Band were on stage,” he said. “But 20 minutes after they finished, someone went up to the mic and said: ‘Ladies and gentlemen, the moment you’ve all been waiting for… Led Zeppelin!’”

According to Thomas, Plant, Page, Jones and Jason Bonham performed five songs together during the impromptu reunion.

The set reportedly included Led Zeppelin classics “Custard Pie,” “Rock and Roll” and “Sick Again,” along with “Bring It On Home” and “It’ll Be Me.”

Thomas managed to capture several photographs of the performance, though he later received a threatening phone call from Led Zeppelin’s longtime tour manager Richard Cole.

“A week later, I got a call from Richard Cole, who was Zeppelin’s tour manager,” Thomas recalled. “He threatened to break my legs if he saw another photo from the wedding.”

Despite occasional reunions over the years, including the band’s famous 2007 Ahmet Ertegun Tribute Concert at London’s O2 Arena, the secret 1990 wedding performance remains one of the most intimate and exclusive Led Zeppelin reunions ever staged.

According to sources cited by Classic Rock, the performance was allegedly recorded, though the tape has never surfaced publicly.

For fans, the idea of Led Zeppelin quietly reuniting inside a small-town hotel ballroom nearly a decade after the band’s breakup has only added to the mythology surrounding one of rock music’s most enduring acts.

How To Ask for Mariska Hargitay’s Chic New Bob at the Salon, According to Her Stylist (Exclusive)

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 2:24pm

Parade aims to feature only the best products and services. If you buy something via one of our links, we may earn a commission.

If you didn't already know that Mariska Hargitaychopped her hair before her Broadway debut in Every Brilliant Thing—surprise! It created quite a stir.

The Law & Order: SVU actress, 62, is known for her longer locks, but decided the new role needed new hair. She opted one of the biggest hair trends over the last year—the bob. This versatile cut has become popular because it can look sophisticated, modern or edgy depending on the styling, while also giving hair a healthier and fuller appearance.

Celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel who also works with Nicole Kidman and Charlize Theron, created the fresh look for Hargitay. During a photo shoot, Hargitay actually surprised Abergel with the request.

"She all of a sudden said to me, 'Adir I think we should have a bob for this new play.' We wanted new energy for this new role. Something that would be easy to do for her weekly run and something that felt really fresh, strong and chic," Abergel tells Parade.

We spoke with him about how they decided on the cut and style, plus got exclusive details on how to wear the trend yourself.

What Makes a Bob So Flattering?

"The bob has remained iconic because it always feels intentional," Abergel says. "It’s clean, chic and powerful, but it can still feel soft and sensual at the same time. I love that it exposes the neck and frames the face in such a beautiful way. It also immediately brings attention to someone’s eyes and expression. We continue to reinvent it, but the essence of the cut always feels strong, elegant and modern."

Abergel explains that he wanted Hargitay's hair to feel touchable and healthy. "This cut is at its most beautiful when it moves naturally and feels lived in, not over styled," he shares.

How To Ask Your Stylist for This Bob

"When considering a bob, the most important step is working with your stylist to determine the right length around your face first," Abergel says.

"I always use the jawline as a guide," he adds. "If someone has a strong, defined jaw, I like going shorter to highlight it. If the face is softer or rounder, keeping the length just below the jaw helps create a more contouring effect. From there, the back of the haircut should be shaped to match the front."

There are some key things to ask for if you're looking to copy Hargitay's exact look, however.

"In Mariska’s case, we wanted the cut to feel clean, strong and modern, so we kept it completely blunt with no layers or stacking," Abergel shares. "The line sits close to the neck and feels square and sharp from front to back, which gives it that chic, deconstructed feel."

4 Styling Steps To Get Mariska Hargitay's Look

For styling, the beauty of this look is that it can truly be wash-and-go, Abergel says.

  1. On damp hair, apply a volumizing product to create fullness and airy movement, then gently scrunch the hair using paper towels or a diffuser to encourage texture while minimizing frizz. Let the hair air dry naturally for that effortless, lived-in finish. Aberdel likes Virtue Flourish Thickening Styling Treatment.
  2. Smooth the nape area with an anti-frizz cream, like Virtue UnFrizz to keep the shape sleek and close to the neck.
  3. Blow dry the crown with a round brush for natural movement and fullness. Finish by adding loose bends with a large curling iron—not tight curls, just subtle movement through the ends.
  4. Warm a hair oil like Virtue Healing Oil through your hands and gently break up the pieces so the hair still feels touchable and effortless.

Is a Bob Haircut a Good Choice for Women Over 50?

According to Abergel, a bob is unequivocally a good choice for aging hair.

"As we age, hair naturally becomes a little drier, finer and less elastic, so healthy-looking hair is really the secret to making a bob feel chic and modern," he tells Parade.

He adds that he loves bobs for women over 50, explaining, "They can instantly make the face feel fresher, more lifted and give you a modern look. What I love most is how versatile the cut can be. Simply changing the part or texture completely transforms the feeling of the style."

How To Style a Bob Haircut Over 50

"One of my favorite versions is the fringey bob, inspired by that effortless French-girl shape with soft, face-framing layers that bring movement and softness around the face, almost like a modern-day Molly Ringwald moment," Abergel tells Parade. "It can feel casual and undone when air-dried with a little texture spray, or glamorous and voluminous."

How To Care for a Bob Haircut Over 50

Abergel recommends a gentle sulfate-free shampoo and a hydrating conditioner tailored to your texture to keep the scalp balanced without weighing the hair down.

"Once a week, I recommend using Virtue Restorative Treatment Mask to deeply nourish and strengthen the hair so it maintains softness, shine and movement," he says, adding that it's important to also get regular trims "every couple of months" because "a bob looks most beautiful when the ends feel clean, healthy and polished."

1967 Rock Classic Gets Named the 'Greatest One-Hit Wonder From the 1960s'

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 2:20pm

While there's a handful of '60s hits that are still getting plenty of radio play, not every song from the era kept making waves despite having initial popularity.

For instance, the publication Far Out highlighted some once-beloved '60s songs that gave music groups a brief moment in the sun by sharing a list of the "10 greatest one-hit wonders from the 1960s." According to Far Out, some of the best one-hit wonders in the era were "Green Tambourine" by The Lemon Pipers, "Monster Mash" by Bobby "Boris" Pickett, and "Wild Thing" by The Troggs.

Procol Harum's 1967 song "A Whiter Shade of Pale" was named the best "one-hit wonder from the 1960s." The publication reported that the tune offers a pleasant listening experience, despite its eventual decline in relevance.

Procol Harum's Gary Brooker Discussed 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' in a 2018 Interview

In a 2018 interview with Cherry Red Records, the band's singer Gary Brooker shared his thoughts about the writing and recording process of "A Whiter Shade of Pale." Brooker, who died in 2022 at the age of 76, shared that while he didn't realize the tune would be such a successful single, he was always under the impression that it was a good song.

"I did not know that it would become that big of a hit. I mean I thought from the moment I wrote it that it was a good idea," said Brooker during the interview.

Brooker also said the song "was a culmination of a lot of influences," specifically the blues. He then explained that his vocals "had kind of a bluesy, soul" quality, giving the tune a unique sound and more depth than a typical '60s pop song.

"It's not really what you'd expect. And I don't think the combination of the vocal and the backing and the whole effect of it, people didn't expect that at all. They never even heard something like that," said Brooker.

The late musician also shared that he believed the song "never sounds dated."

"It's just there, some haunting thing that gets inside you," continued the British singer during the 2018 interview.

Dolly Parton’s Secret Ingredient for the Best-Ever Potato Salad

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 2:15pm

Chances are, if you’re a fan of potato salad, you probably have some pretty strong opinions regarding who makes it best. And without some sort of nationwide competition to put all of our mothers and grandmothers against each other, it's a little difficult to determine whose potato salad really reigns supreme.

Until then, we’ll be stuck debating our personal favorites, which include an entry from Aunt Granny herself, Dolly Parton.

Potato salad seems like a simple enough dish with plenty of familiar ingredients: potatoes, diced onion, chopped celery, some sort of relish, mayonnaise, mustard, hard-boiled eggs (depending on who you talk to) and some salt and pepper.

However, things can easily go wrong by not salting the water while cooking the potatoes, overcooking or undercooking the potatoes or simply not dressing the salad properly.

As proven by her coleslaw and baked beans, Dolly is skilled at taking a classic recipe and making it her own with a smart upgrade or two.

The ingredients list for Dolly's potato salad, which we found in the Dollywood cookbook, includes many of the usual suspects: potatoes, onion, green pepper (a somewhat divisive addition, but still classic), celery, sweet pickles, hard-boiled eggs, mayonnaise, mustard and salt and pepper.

But there was an unexpected addition at the bottom of the list that piqued our curiosity: stuffed Spanish olives.

Related: Dolly Parton’s Secret Ingredient for the Fluffiest Scrambled Eggs

Why You Should Add Stuffed Spanish Olives to Your Potato Salad

iStock

At this point, we have some experience with Dolly's recipes, and we've noticed that she adds a tangy hit of flavor wherever she can. She uses pickles and pickle juice in her slaw, so the tangy stuffed olive addition to her potato salad made perfect sense to us.

Stuffed Spanish olives are the large green pimento-stuffed olives that you see in jars at the grocery store—and they're a classic cocktail garnish, especially in martinis. They're tangy with a meaty texture. We find that the flavor of the pimento kind of blends in with the olive, but it adds a nice pop of color.

The olives bring a nice acidic brightness to potato salad, helping to offset the richness of the mayo. They also add some color and texture to the dish and are sure to get your guests talking because you don't often see them outside the bar these days.

By adding a hint of flavor from left field, Parton’s recipe offers a unique twist on one of the most classic side dishes. It's simple, elegant and smart—just like Dolly herself.

Next time you set out to make potato salad from scratch, if you’re feeling a bit bored with the same old recipe, just remember Parton’s lyrics: “If you don't like the road you're walking, start paving another one.”

How to Make Dolly Parton’s Potato Salad

Start with 4 medium potatoes, place them in a pot of cool water seasoned with salt. Bring the pot to a boil and cook until the potatoes are tender. Drain and let the potatoes cool down before chopping.

Cut the potatoes into small cubes and season to taste. Now add diced onions, chopped green peppers, chopped celery, chopped sweet pickles and 4 hard-boiled eggs. Add 3 tablespoons mayo and 1 teaspoon mustard and mix well.

Dolly instructs cooks to serve the potato salad cold, but she doesn't tell you exactly what to do with the stuffed Spanish olives.

If you have olive-loving guests, you can chop them up and fold them into the salad. If you're not sure if everyone at the party is pro-olive, you can arrange them on top and let people choose their own potato salad adventure.

Anyone who tries to tell me the rustic farmhouse look is on its way out can take a seat, because this aesthetic is just too cozy and warm to go anywhere. And the proof is in the wide array of farmhouse-chic styles you can still find at nearly every home decor or furnishings retailer. Unless they specialize in mid-century modern or contemporary vibes, farmhouse is everywhere you shop, and for a good reason.

You can blend rustic pieces into so many other aesthetics, from cottagecore to boho. (Few of us are just one singular style.) Needless to say, I'm kind of obsessed with the Madison Park Hayden Basket-Storage End Table at Kohl's because it does way more than just hold a lamp or a coffee mug. The top gives you just enough surface space for the essentials, but the real win is the built-in basket underneath where you can toss blankets, magazines or all the random stuff you never know where to put. It has a clean mix of wood and metal that makes it feel a little modern despite its rustic quality, and the compact size is perfect if you're working with a smaller living room or bedroom. Plus, no assembly is required, which is a luxury these days.

The end table is also on sale right now, and you'll earn $5 in Kohl's Cash to use on something else later.

There are three different colorways to choose from—Black (a black tabletop with a black basket), Mediterranean (a dark wood tabletop with a black basket) and Natural (a lighter wood tabletop with a white basket).

Kohl's shoppers who have purchased this end table are really satisfied with their purchase.

"This was the perfect addition to our living room," writes a customer in their review. "We store extra blankets inside and use the top as an end table to place drinks on."

Another person says they actually use the table in their child's room.

"Purchased for a child's bedroom," they write. "Multiple uses. Currently being used for their towels/wash cloths. I thought about putting a night light in the base. It could hold small toys or laundry."

So go ahead and add stylish storage to your space at a discount. And don't forget to use that Kohl's cash you earn on something before it expires.

Lainey Wilson’s Statement Engagement Ring Is Getting Attention for One Reason

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 2:00pm

Lainey Wilson and Devlin “Duck” Hodges recently tied the knot, but it’s not Wilson’s wedding ring that’s making a statement: it’s her engagement ring.

According to Vogue, Wilson and Hodges were wed at the foot of a waterfall. Arriving in a horse-drawn carriage, the picturesque wedding took place on May 10. One week later, at the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards in Las Vegas, TODAY.com said that all eyes were on Wilson’s ring finger.

TODAY asked jewelry pros what they knew about Wilson’s unique ring, including Anubh Shah, the co-founder of With Clarity, an engagement ring brand. Shah said Wilson’s sparkly piece is a “diamond cluster ring with a cocktail ring aesthetic.”

“Instead of featuring a single center stone, the design combines multiple diamond shapes — including oval, pear, marquise and round stones — arranged in a sculptural, floral-inspired cluster that feels bold and dramatic,” Shah said.

TODAY also spoke with Patricia Curts, co-founder of the jewelry brand The Mexican Collection, who estimated the cost of the ring.

“This one has a wide range depending on factors you simply can’t determine from photos alone: Diamond clarity, color grade and cut quality all move the needle considerably,” Curts said.

Despite this, she estimated the ring costs between $50,000 and $250,000 or more, since the primary diamonds appear to be about 2.50 carats each.

After turning heads with her engagement ring, Wilson turned heads on the stage of the Academy of Country Music Awards. Performing her song “Can’t Sit Still,” the awards show called it “a perfect performance to kick off the 2026 #ACMawards.”

Fans couldn’t get enough of the performance, taking to the ACM Awards Instagram comment section to show their support.

“Lainey is an absolute ICON and @nappytabs [choreographers] crushed this performance 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 so so so so good,” one fan commented.

“Perfect way to start the night off,” another user said. “We love our Lainey.”

Kylie Jenner Just Shouted Out Her Relationship in the Most 'King Kylie' Way Possible

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 1:57pm

Three years after they were first romantically linked together, it's safe to say that Kylie Jenner is still very head over heels for her boyfriend, Timothée Chalamet.

On Tuesday, May 19, the Academy Award nominated actor attended the New York Knicks vs. Cleveland Cavaliers game at Madison Square Garden. Prior to the game, Chalamet had been sporting a shaggier, longer haircut and facial hair. In a clip posted to Page Six, the Marty Supreme star walked out looking more trimmed and completely clean shaven. Jenner, who was not in attendance at the game, had a single word reaction to her man's new look in the TikTok comment section of the video:

"daddy"

The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star was not at the game with her boyfriend because she was celebrating an InStyle Best Beauty Buys Award for her fragrance, Cosmic Intense. Her reaction to his new look was hugely popular among fans, generating over 200k likes and thousands of responses and replies.

"This comment is so important to me."

"So happy I caught this in real time lolol"

"Is this a hard launch?"

Jenner and Chalamet are notably private about their relationship, rarely making public comments to the media about each other. The pair were first linked together in April of 2023 but they did not make their red carpet debut as a couple until 2025 at a photocall in Rome during the 70th David Di Donatello at Cinecittà Studios. Chalamet publicly thanked Jenner during awards season in 2026, saying in his speech at the Critics Choice Awards, “And lastly, I’ll just say, thank you to my partner of three years. Thank you for our foundation. I love you.”

While we probably can't expect too much hard launching from the pair on social media, seeing Kylie's flirty comment to her boyfriend is all the confirmation fans need that they're going strong with no signs of splitting any time soon.

NYT Bestselling Author Takes to Instagram To Share the Fourth Book Update Every Single Fan Needed

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 1:30pm

The end isn’t always the end, and that’s certainly the case for the Emily Wilde book series. Heather Fawcett has announced the news that every single fan was dying to hear.

There will be a fourth book. In fact, it’s not even going to stop there, as Fawcett announced in the same Instagram post that there will also be a fifth book!

It’s not surprising that readers believed that Compendium of Lost Tales was the end. When Fawcett first started writing her series, she would tell readers that the series would be a trilogy. That’s it. Just the three books, and that’s what she stuck to even after the publication of Compendium of Lost Tales in 2025.

That third book was even viewed as “a perfect farewell” by readers and publishers alike, as everyone thought it was the end of the trilogy.

Well, things have changed, and she’s now announced Emily Wilde's History of Dark Faerie, which is slated for release in January 2027. It’s sure to be one of the most highly anticipated books of next year, especially with the beautiful cover revealed on Fawcett’s Instagram post.

That’s not all! There will be a fifth book in the series.

View this post on Instagram

In some exciting news, this isn’t just a continuation of the third book. That trilogy will arguably stand on their own. Emily Wilde is heading on a new adventure with a new arc throughout this fourth installment. Fawcett did make it clear that it’s not a spinoff but a continuation of the original series.

While sharing the post on Instagram, the New York Times bestselling author did share that the fourth set in the series will be a little darker. Something that many adored about the first three books was that they offered a cozy fantasy realm to delve into. As Emily has grown up, it looks like the worlds she finds herself in have also changed.

In this universe, the fae, known as The Folk, are real creatures. They are studied, and Emily Wilde is a Cambridge professor who has become the world’s biggest expert on The Folk. She is absolutely flawed in the sense that she can’t really socialize, but she adores her time in the field making her notes and just being around her dog, and I think that’s what a lot of us can relate to.

There is a romance built into the story with the witty rival professor Wendall Bamberly, and we will get to see him in the fourth installment.

The Chicks' Natalie Maines Takes Fans Back in Time With a Single Instagram Post: 'It’s 2003 Again!'

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 1:29pm

Oops, Natalie Maines did it again.

The Chicks singer recently sparked a wave of online reactions after sharing an Instagram post that referred to Donald Trump as a “fugly slut,” reigniting memories of the political controversy that famously surrounded the band, then known as The Dixie Chicks, more than two decades ago.

Well aware of the attention a political post would receive, Maines seemingly welcomed both the attention and the throwback to the early 2000s, when similar comments earned her legions of supporters — and some detractors.

Here’s what went down.

In a post dated May 19, 2026, the singer shared a photo of Donald Trump alongside the caption, “Our democracy is disappearing right before our eyes. This fugly slut is using your gas money to pay the insurrectionists. But don't worry about it. I'm sure posting selfies will fix everything. My last post that called him a fugly slut got removed. We'll see how long this one lasts.”

Two days later, Maines shared a photo of herself, captioning the post, “Oops, I did it again,” a cheeky reference many fans quickly connected to her long history of making headlines for outspoken political commentary.

View this post on Instagram

The post quickly circulated across social media, with reactions ranging from supportive to critical.

“My time machine worked, it’s 2003 again!!!!” shared one fan, referencing Maines’ legendary critical comments about then-President George W. Bush in March 2003.

Another added, “Adore you and everything you stand for!”

Maines’ recent social media commentary wasn’t completely well received. The White House also weighed in on the post after it began gaining traction online, with Donald Trump reportedly calling the singer “a despicable nobody,” further amplifying the conversation surrounding Maines and her latest social media moment.

Natalie Maines Has Never Shied Away From Political Commentary

For longtime fans of The Chicks, Maines’ latest viral moment feels strikingly familiar.

Back in 2003, the singer made international headlines after criticizing then-President George W. Bush during a concert in London shortly before the Iraq War began. At the time, her comments sparked enormous backlash, particularly within country music circles, leading to radio boycotts of the band, public criticism and intense media attention.

The controversy surrounding Maines’ comments in 2003 ultimately became one of the defining pop culture moments of the decade, dramatically changing the trajectory of The Chicks’ career within the country music genre.

Never one to shy away from expressing herself, Maines has continued speaking openly about politics and social issues over the years, often sharing her thoughts in interviews and on social media rather than avoiding potential controversy.

Fans React to Natalie Maines’ Latest Instagram Post

Unsurprisingly, Maines’ recent Instagram post prompted immediate reactions online, with many fans referencing parallels between her current comments and those made in 2003.

For many fans, Maines’ “Oops, I did it again” caption seemed intentionally self-aware. The singer appeared to acknowledge her reputation for making bold public statements while also tapping into early-2000s nostalgia. Britney Spears’ "Oops!... I Did It Again" was released in 2000, making the reference especially fitting.

Still, Maines appeared to make one thing clear: she is not afraid of controversy or backlash.

The Chicks Continue To Maintain a Loyal Fanbase

Despite public scrutiny that has followed Maines since the early 2000s, The Chicks remain one of the most recognizable groups in country-pop music.

Known for hits like "Wide Open Spaces," "Cowboy Take Me Away" and "Not Ready to Make Nice," the trio has maintained a devoted fanbase that continues to support the band through controversy, reinvention and even a name change.

As reactions to Maines’ latest post continue circulating online, one thing remains clear: more than two decades after becoming one of music’s most talked-about voices, Natalie Maines still knows how to get people talking.

Is Mackenzie Shirilla Seeking an Appeal? 'I Think She's Done' Says Expert (Exclusive)

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 1:29pm

Mackenzie Shirilla is featured in Netflix's new documentary, The Crash. The now-21-year-old is serving time in prison after she was convicted of murdering her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and a friend, Davion Flanagan, on July 31, 2022, in Strongsville, Ohio.

Shirilla was driving a vehicle at a high rate of speed when the car slammed into a brick building, killing Russo and Flanagan on impact. Shirilla, who was 17 at the time, was severely injured in the crash, but survived. She claims that she doesn't recall what happened in the moments before her car hit the building.

Months into the investigation, Shirilla was arrested on murder charges. After hearing the evidence and testimony, a judge found Shirilla guilty and sentenced her to 15-years-to-life in prison, making her eligible for parole in 2037.

Shirilla has tried to appeal the ruling three times—twice in Cuyahoga County Court and once in the Eighth District Court of Appeals—but all three attempts have been denied, according to People magazine.

Parade reached out to Josephine "Jo" R. Potuto, a renowned University of Nebraska law professor, for some insight. Potuto doesn't think that a court will approve any additional appeals—though Shirilla may still try.

"I think she is done," Potuto says. "The Ohio Supreme Court is very unlikely to hear her case, despite her recent appeal. She could go into federal court if she has a constitutional claim, such as ineffective assistance of counsel -- as her legal team missed the filing date on post- conviction and who knows what else."

Shirilla is currently serving two concurrent prison sentences at the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville, Ohio.

1965 Grammy-Winning Love Ballad Started Out as a Joke

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 1:27pm

Despite only being a band for 10 years,The Beatles have a seriously prolific discography. The British group is still recognized for several hits, like their 1965 tune "Michelle," which took home the title of Song of the Year at the 1967 Grammys.

Some Beatles fans may not be aware that the romantic song off the band's 1965 album, Rubber Soul, has a pretty silly origin. According to Far Outmagazine, "Michelle," penned byPaul McCartney, is among "five classic songs that began life as a joke." The publication reported that McCartney explained that the tune "was like a joke French tune for when you go to a party or something" during a 1977 interview.

"That’s all it was. And then after a while you say, ‘Well, that’s quite a good tune. Let’s put some real words to it,'" said the Wings frontman, as reported by Far Out magazine.

Paul McCartney Shared More Details About Writing 'Michelle' in a 1997 Interview

McCartney, now 83, shared some more details about the iconic tune during a 1997 interview with comedian Conan O'Brien. He explained that during his younger years, alongside his late bandmates,John Lennon and George Harrison, he would try to pretend he was from France while playing the guitar to impress women at parties.

"I used to sit around at parties, enigmatically, in a sort of black roll neck sweater. You know, hoping they would think I was a French person and would want to go to bed with me," said McCartney.

The musician clarified that the ruse "never worked." In addition, he said that Lennon encouraged him "many, many years later" to finish the French-inspired party tune.

"John did say, 'You remember that smelly French song that you used to do?' He said, 'That wasn't bad. You should write some good words to that.' So I did," said McCartney in the 1997 interview.

Trader Joe's $10 Brightening Serum Has Fans Comparing It to the Dermatological 'Gold Standard' Nearly 19x the Price

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 1:25pm

Luxury skincare dupes are nothing new, but Trader Joe's shoppers think the grocery chain may have stumbled onto one of the most surprising comparisons yet. A $9.99 vitamin C serum from the retailer's skincare aisle is drawing attention online for its resemblance to a dermatologist-favorite product that costs nearly 19 times as much.

The Trader Joe's Vitamin C Serum recently resurfaced in online skincare conversations thanks to its ingredient lineup and budget-friendly price point. Beauty enthusiasts on Reddit and social media have been comparing it to SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, a luxury vitamin C serum that dermatologists frequently describe as a gold standard antioxidant treatment in skincare.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

While experts note the formulas are not identical, many shoppers see the Trader Joe's version as a compelling alternative for anyone who doesn't want to spend nearly $200 for skincare.

Why Trader Joe's $10 Vitamin C Serum Is Getting So Much Attention

Trader Joe's Vitamin C Serum contains the same antioxidant trio that made SkinCeuticals famous in the skincare world: 15 percent L-ascorbic acid, vitamin E and ferulic acid.

Dermatologists often praise that combination because the ingredients work together to brighten skin, protect against environmental stressors and support collagen production. Ferulic acid also helps stabilize vitamin C.

At just $9.99 per fluid ounce, Trader Joe's Vitamin C Serum offers the same key ingredients at a much lower price. The product was also formulated for the retailer by dermatologists, according to Trader Joe's.

Online, shoppers say they were especially surprised by how closely the ingredient percentages match those of the luxury serum. Cosmetic chemists and skincare professionals have noted that the texture and base formulation differ from SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, but many consumers, including me, remain intrigued.

What Dermatologists Say About Vitamin C Skincare

Vitamin C remains one of the most recommended skincare ingredients among dermatologists because of its wide range of benefits. Experts say topical vitamin C can help brighten uneven skin tone, fade dark spots and protect skin from free radical damage caused by pollution and UV exposure.

It is also commonly used in anti-aging skincare routines because it supports collagen production, which helps skin maintain firmness and elasticity over time.

Still, dermatologists caution that higher vitamin C concentrations can irritate sensitive skin, especially at 15 percent. Many recommend introducing vitamin C skincare slowly and pairing it with daily sunscreen.

For skincare shoppers looking to experiment with dermatologist-inspired ingredients without the luxury markup, Trader Joe's $10 serum might be the perfect pick.

3 Signs You’re Taking Too Much Magnesium, According to Dietitians

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 1:25pm

Magnesium is a valuable mineral for many reasons. Found in peanut butter, oatmeal, black beans, brown rice, yogurt, bananas and more, it can help with a variety of health concerns.

For example, maybe a dietitian or doctor encouraged you to get more magnesium to regulate your blood pressure, boost gut health, promote strong bones or maintain muscle function. After all, a magnesium deficiency might increase the risk of heart disease. Magnesium can also be transformational for sleep and anxiety. These are only some of the benefits. Getting enough magnesium every day is vital—enough said.

However, as beneficial as magnesium can be (and even though it’s a “good” thing, a mineral), it is, in fact, possible to take too much. As the saying goes, you can have “too much of a good thing.” You might not even realize that’s happening, either, since the symptoms it can cause aren’t specific to consuming too much magnesium. Plus, you might not realize that many well-loved foods are magnesium-rich (aka, you may not need a supplement). Further, taking too much magnesium can actually worsen your health in multiple ways, according to experts.

Ahead, dietitians share three signs you’re taking too much magnesium, the dangers it can cause and how much magnesium is recommended.

3 Signs You’re Taking Too Much Magnesium, According to Dietitians

LaylaBird/Getty Images

1. You have diarrhea

Dietitians are clear: The #1 sign you’re taking too much magnesium is diarrhea

“A lot of people don’t realize certain forms [magnesium citrate] work almost like a laxative, so if you suddenly notice loose stools or stomach upset after starting a supplement, your body is probably telling you to scale back,” says Jessica Brantley-Lopez, MBA, RDN, founder of The Eat Well Studio.

Kirsten Jackson, a UK-based registered consultant dietitian known as “The IBS Dietitian,” explains why. “Magnesium that is not absorbed into the body ends up in the large bowel, where it draws in water that can lead to urgent loose stools.”

2. You're dealing with nausea and stomach cramping

Along those lines, other GI problems can result from too much magnesium. You don't need to have diarrhea to be mindful of your magnesium intake.

According to Jackson, nausea and stomach cramping are “very common signs, particularly when someone is taking high doses or more poorly absorbed forms, such as magnesium oxide or citrate.”

Related: Magnesium Glycinate Vs. Citrate: Which Magnesium Supplements Should You Be Taking?

3. Your blood pressure is low

GI issues aren’t the only ones. Low blood pressure is, too, and it’s “one of the more serious signs,” according to Brantley-Lopez.

“Because magnesium helps relax blood vessels, too much can sometimes leave people feeling dizzy, lightheaded, weak, nauseous or even faint, especially if they already tend to run on the lower side with blood pressure, are dehydrated or take blood pressure medications,” she explains.

She recalls experiencing this herself after receiving a vitamin IV supplement.

What Happens if You Take Too Much Magnesium?

Experiencing any of those three symptoms is bad enough. Not only are they unpleasant, but they can cause further problems. For example, diarrhea can lead to dehydration.

Related: The 3 Most Important Things Your Poop Reveals About Your Health, According to Gastroenterologists

When it comes to a magnesium overload, that’s not all. “In more serious cases, especially for someone with kidney problems, excess magnesium can affect blood pressure, muscle function and even heart rhythm,” Brantley-Lopez says.

Jackson adds muscle weakness, feeling unusually warm, extreme tiredness or drowsiness, slow heartbeat, confusion and even difficulty breathing (the latter in severe cases), particularly if someone overwhelms their body with magnesium for a long time.

However, for what it’s worth, Brantley-Lopez clarifies that “true toxicity is rare” and more likely to happen because of magnesium supplements than magnesium-rich foods.

How Much Magnesium Is Recommended?

While too much magnesium is a problem, so is too little. What’s the happy medium?

The Recommended Dietary Allowance says women need around 310 to 320 mg daily and men need around 400 to 420 mg daily. Brantley-Lopez recommends getting it from food sources, such as pumpkin seeds, leafy greens, beans, nuts, avocados, bananas and whole grains.

According to Jackson, most people get enough magnesium through their diet, and supplemental use is “not routinely recommended.”

Related: ‘I’m a Family Medicine Doctor—Here Are the 2 Supplements I Take To Stay Healthy and Well’

With that said, she shares a warning: A magnesium deficiency usually doesn’t happen on its own. “If someone is deficient, then they would also be deficient in multiple other micronutrients because magnesium is found in nuts, whole grains, a whole range of foods.”

If you do take magnesium as a supplement, remember that different types exist, and the difference between them matters. For example, magnesium glycinate is more effective for sleep and relaxation, while magnesium citrate is often used for constipation

“I always tell people not to just grab the highest dose on the shelf; the form matters, too,” Brantley-Lopez says.

In short, more isn’t always better—perhaps especially when it comes to magnesium.

Utz Lemonade Chips Are Returning for Summer—Now With a ‘Sizzlin’ New Flavor

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 1:22pm

Utz is bringing back its controversial-turned-cult-favorite Lemonade Chips this summer, and this year, it's marking the occasion with an even bolder new Ripples flavor.

When the iconic snack brand initially debuted its lemonade-flavored potato chips last year, the release seriously divided fans. Some thought the flavor was "too interesting to pass up," while others argued it may have "gone too far." Despite the disagreement, Utz said the flavor generated more than $1 million in sales in 2025, citing strong consumer demand—something it plans to build on this year.

"Summer is all about bold flavor and memorable moments," Stacey Shultz, senior vice president of marketing at Utz Quality Foods, LLC (a subsidiary of Utz Brands, Inc.), shared in a statement. "We’re giving snack lovers two unmistakably Utz ways to enjoy the season, whether they’re poolside, on the go, or gathered around the grill."

Utz Lemonade Chips Return for a Limited Time This Summer, Bringing New BBQ-Inspired Flavor With It

If you passed on trying the variety last year, the brand describes its signature "sweet-and-tangy citrus flavor" as a "refreshing twist" on a classic potato chip, with "a balance of tangy, sour and sweet in every bite." It starts with Utz's thin-sliced potato chips, seasoned with a "bright lemonade-inspired flavor."

Related: Nationwide Recall Issued for 2 Popular Potato Chip Brands

Reviewers describe it as having the "sensation of a salt and vinegar chip" and the flavor of a lemon cookie mixed with a potato chip.

The brand didn't mention any recipe changes, so consumers should expect this year's drop to taste just like last year's. And just as it did in 2025, Utz is re-releasing the chips as part of a special partnership with Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF), a nonprofit dedicated to fighting childhood cancer. A portion of sales from Utz Lemonade Chips, up to $40,000, will be donated to ALSF to support its mission to fund research and help families in need, per the announcement.

But unlike last year, this year's summer exclusives include Utz's all-new Sizzlin' Summer Burger flavored Ripples Potato Chips.

Utz Lemonade Chips (L) return with new Sizzlin' Summer Burger Ripples (R).

Said to be inspired by the classic flavors of a backyard cookout, Utz's new Sizzlin's Summer Burger Ripples feature a "layered flavor experience," per an official description. The variety loads its signature ridged potato chip with a "grill-inspired" blend of smoky and savory flavors.

Where Are the New and Returning Utz Flavors Available?

Utz said both the returning Lemonade and the new Sizzlin’ Summer Burger Ripples Potato Chips are now available at major retailers nationwide, including Walmart, Publix, Kroger and more, as well as online directly from Utz.

Both flavors are available in 2.625-ounce and 7.75-ounce bags (prices may vary).

Missing ‘Virgin River’ Actor Now Suspected to Be Victim of Homicide

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 1:14pm

UPDATE: The Royal Canadian Mounted Police have informed Parade that Stewart McLean's remains have been found.

The original post continues below.

Canadian authorities say missing actor Stewart McLean is now believed to be the victim of a homicide after investigators uncovered evidence during the search for the Virgin River actor.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police announced Thursday, May 21 that the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has officially taken over the case.

“Squamish RCMP initiated an investigation and, through investigative efforts, uncovered evidence that led investigators to believe Mr. McLean was victim of homicide,” police said in a statement.

Authorities said McLean was reported missing on May 18 after he had not been seen since May 15. Police said he was last seen at his residence in Lions Bay, British Columbia.

Police had initially said they were “very concerned” for McLean’s health and well-being after he disappeared. According to the original RCMP missing persons bulletin, McLean was described as 5-foot-10 with gray hair and blue eyes.

On May 20, IHIT officially assumed control of the investigation as Squamish RCMP and forensic identification teams continued working the case.

McLean, who was often credited professionally as Stew McLean, recently appeared in an episode of Netflix’s Virgin River and also had credits in shows including Arrow, Travelers, The 100, Supernatural, Beyond and Murder in a Small Town.

His recent work also included appearances in the Paramount+ series Happy Face and the Lifetime movie The Killer Inside: The Ruth Finley Story.

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, McLean worked steadily in film and television productions throughout the Vancouver area for more than a decade, including projects filmed in Squamish and Bowen Island.

Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the investigation to contact the IHIT information line as investigators continue examining the circumstances surrounding McLean’s disappearance.

Parade reached out to Sgt. Vanessa Munn of the Media Relations department of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for additional comment. Munn said the information currently available is contained in Thursday’s RCMP media release announcing the homicide investigation and noted that investigators “likely” expect to issue another brief update later Friday.

Robert Irwin's Reality Series Has Been Canceled After a Decade

Fri, 05/22/2026 - 1:10pm

I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! has officially been canceled following a decade on the air.

Mediaweek reported that Australia's Network 10 pulled the plug on one of its signature reality franchises for the upcoming year, meaning it will not air another season in 2027.

“We have made the decision to rest I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2027 as we focus on offering our audience a range of content on all platforms," the statement read.

The series was co-hosted by Julia Morris and Robert Irwin, who returned to his duties this year following his win on another reality competition, DWTS, where he took home the Mirrorball Trophy.

Of the co-hosts, the statement expressed, “We look forward to working with Julia Morris and Robert Irwin on other projects.”

The local edition of the competition series, first launched in 2015, has been hosted by the beloved wildlife conservationist for three seasons since 2024, following Chris Brown's exit in season 10.

The reality competition series gained popularity in the UK and Australia, with a very short-lived stint in the U.S., with its format taking celebrities out of their normal lives and dropping them into a jungle camp where they must fend for themselves, all while facing off in challenges and earning the public’s adoration to avoid being voted off.

The 12th and now-final season premiered on January 18, 2026, on Channel 10 AU, which he called the "most intense," "most challenging," and "most emotional" season to date.

Irwin has not publicly commented on the cancellation just yet; however, he has been prioritizing more personal projects.

He previously revealed his post-DWTS project, working at the Crocodile Hunter Lodge at the Australia Zoo, announcing in a video that he was very excited to be “heading back home” and thanking fans for all the love throughout his entire journey.

Reactions to the cancellation have been mixed, as some noted, "They've run out of 'celebrities'" and "Thank god for that!!!! NOW put something decent on the telly," while others expressed disappointment, writing, "That sucks I really enjoyed watching this show was funny and heart wrenching."
