1964 Hauntingly Vulnerable Brian Wilson Ballad Ranked Among His Finest Songwriting Achievements

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 7:26am

Early in his career, Brian Wilsonwrote a song that felt more personal and emotional than most of his work, and it still stands out today for its honesty and simple beauty.

In 1963, Wilson penned "The Warmth of the Sun." He wrote in his memoir, I Am Brian Wilson that the song was in response to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 23, 1963.

As excerpted by American Songwriter, Wilson wrote, “When the shooting happened, everyone knew instantly. It was all over the TV and on every kind of news. I called Mike [Love], and he asked me if I wanted to write a song about it. I said, ‘Sure.’ It seemed like something we had to think about, and songs were the way I thought about things."

He continued, "We drove over to my office, and in a half hour, we had ‘The Warmth of the Sun.’ We didn’t think of it as a big song. It was a personal response, but it got bigger over time because of the history linked to it."

Love said of writing the song in his book Good Vibrations: My Life as a Beach Boy (per American Songwriter's excerpt), “I wasn’t terribly political, but this had nothing to do with politics. Something had been lost—call it innocence if you wish—and for a group of guys who had spent much of their time exalting sunny California pastimes, it defied all explanation.”

"The Warmth of the Sun" was the B-side of the Beach Boys' hit, "Dance, Dance, Dance." The song remains a beautiful example of the band's lush harmonies.

The song was ranked by Rolling Stone as one of Wilson's 25 Best Songs. It is widely considered one of his best songwriting achievements.

"The Warmth of the Sun" was famously covered by Willie Nelson in 1996, Melissa Manchester, and as a duet by Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs.

New Data Reveals When Grocery Store Brands Offer the Biggest Savings Over Name Brands

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 7:25am

A new price comparison across major grocery retailers is putting hard numbers behind something many shoppers already suspect: store brands can deliver major savings on everyday essentials.

The NetCredit analysis examined 171 common grocery products across Walmart, Kroger and Target, comparing national name brands with their store-brand equivalents. The results show consistent price gaps across nearly every aisle, with some categories offering especially large discounts for shoppers willing to switch.

Where the Biggest Savings Show Up

ZikG / Shutterstock.com

Some of the biggest differences show up in the beverage aisle. Store-brand sports hydration drinks delivered the largest overall savings in the study, costing more than 70 percent less than leading name-brand versions at Walmart.

Fruity cereal loops followed closely, with shoppers saving nearly 70 percent on average when choosing store-brand versions instead of well-known national brands.

Everyday pantry staples also show strong savings. Ketchup, for example, was found to be about 67 percent more expensive when purchased as a name-brand product compared to a store-brand alternative across the three retailers studied.

Pasta and other basic dry goods also performed well, with store-brand spaghetti averaging close to 50 percent less than name-brand versions. These items, which are often bought repeatedly, create meaningful long-term savings.

Dairy and Frozen Foods Deliver Consistent Value

The dairy aisle continues the same trend. A gallon of store-brand milk costs significantly less than name-brand milk across all three retailers, with average savings of about 61 percent.

Frozen snacks also stood out. Store-brand ice cream sandwiches were among the strongest performers in the category, offering more than 50 percent savings compared to their branded counterparts.

Across categories, the pattern is consistent: the most recognizable products are rarely the cheapest option, even when the core ingredients are nearly identical.

The study also suggests that perceived quality may not be as big a barrier as it once was. Consumer research in recent years has found that most shoppers struggle to distinguish between store brands and name brands in blind taste tests, and many now report trusting store brands just as much as national labels.

The findings point to a simple shift in grocery shopping behavior. Savings are no longer limited to promotions or bulk buying. They are increasingly built into the choice between two nearly identical products sitting side by side on the same shelf.

8 Bathroom Trends Designers Say Are Outdated in 2026

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 7:15am

Bathroom trends can be a little harder-than-average to nail down when renovating or refreshing a space; most bathroom trends tend to be a little more labor-intensive and, well, once you’ve updated your faucets or tiling, it’s unlikely you’ll want to do it all over again in the near future.

That’s why it’s key to stick to a bathroom aesthetic you genuinely like and not just follow trends. Trends shift with time, and bathroom trends that were considered of the moment just a few news cycles ago are already on the way out in 2026.

“Honestly, the biggest shift we’re seeing is people moving away from bathrooms that feel overly polished, sterile and ‘trend’ driven and toward spaces that feel warmer, more personal and actually connected to the rest of the home,” explains Ann Marie Winkler, co-founder and designer at Huron Interiors, a full-service interior design studio based in Denver.

Whether you’re looking to give your bathroom a refresh that’ll actually still feel fresh in a few months or you just want to stay on the cusp of what’s trending in bathroom design, here are the bathroom trends designers say look outdated in 2026.

1. The All-White Bathroom

Photo by Chastity Cortijo on Unsplash

“The all-white bathroom had such a long run, but now when I see one, it immediately reads builder-grade flip instead of intentionally designed,” explains Winkler.

Photo by Clay Banks on Unsplash

“There’s a clear shift away from bathrooms that feel cold or overly sleek and toward spaces that feel more emotional and lived-in, a little softer around the edges and ultimately more collected and personal rather than perfectly untouched,” she adds.

2. The Luxury Spa Look

Photo by Jared Rice on Unsplash

According to Winkler, the same goes for the super generic “luxury spa” look with gray faux wood tile, LED mirrors, ultra-flat cabinetry and heavy black-and-white contrast everywhere.

Photo by Prydumano Design on Unsplash

“Instead, we’re seeing people gravitate toward more color or earthy, grounded tones, wood vanities, natural stone with movement, plaster finishes, warmer metals, layered lighting and materials that actually age and patina over time,” she explains. “Overall, I think people are craving homes with more soul right now, and bathrooms are following that same shift.”

3. The Black Trim and White Subway Tile combo

Photo by Rebeca Alvidrez on Unsplash

“Please, enough with the black Schluter trim + white subway tile combo,” Winkler laments. “It all feels a little too showroom and not enough personality (Like you could walk into 15 houses and see the exact same bathroom).”

4. The Overly Earthy Vibe

Photo by Puscas Adryan on Unsplash

“One bathroom trend I think will start to feel dated is the very earthy, moody look. We still love warmth, but dark paint and saturated palettes are not the only way to get it,” explains Barrett Oswald, Barrett Oswald Designs. “Wood tones, brass finishes and natural stone can make a bathroom feel warm without making it feel heavy.”

5. The Matte Black Finish

Photo by ASR Design Studio on Unsplash

"Matte black taps and showers peaked in 2022 and now show limescale within a week, scratch easily and are almost impossible to color-match when a single part needs replacing,” explains Dimitri Zobnin, founder, House of Enki.

6. The All-Gray Bathroom

Photo by Bilal Mansuri on Unsplash

According to Zobnin, the formerly coveted all-gray bathroom with a gray vanity, gray large-format tile and chrome trim, has become the new beige and now reads as a rental flip rather than a considered scheme.

7. The Sliding Barn Door Look

Photo by Houston Chronicle/Hearst Newspapers on Getty Images

“Barn doors on en-suites need to go: they leak sound, light and steam, and we're being asked to rip them out and reinstate proper pocket doors in almost every renovation that inherited one,” says Zobnin. “Warm brass, clay and off-white tones and integrated 2700K vanity lighting are what's actually selling at the premium end this year.”

8. Social Media DIY Hacks

Photo by Benjamin Clapp on Getty Images

“Peel-and-stick tile, faux tile sheets, and renter-friendly shortcuts surged in popularity for their affordability and accessibility—especially for those looking to avoid demo, permits and hiring pros. However, many of those solutions don’t age well, particularly in moisture-heavy bathrooms. DIY isn’t outdated, but DIY that looks disposable is,” says Kendra Sinclair, Thumbtack’s Design Trends Expert.

1975 John Denver Heartbreak Hit Hid a Collaboration With a Crossover Country Superstar

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 7:12am

John Denver was on a career high by 1975 when he collaborated with a crossover country superstar for a dreamy, unforgettable song.

The singer and songwriter, who had already scored four No. 1 hits on the Billboard charts by the midpoint of the ’70s, was firmly established as one of the era’s biggest names in music. By 1975, his growing crossover appeal helped open the door to unexpected collaborations that further expanded his reach beyond country audiences.

"Fly Away" was included on Denver's LP Windsong. While he provided all of the primary vocals, he was joined by Olivia Newton-John as a collaborator. At the time, she was known as a country star, but had begun to cross over into the pop music world.

American Songwriter reported that Newton-John joined Denver for the tune, providing harmonies and backing vocals. She went uncredited, likely due to the fact that she and the "Rocky Mountain High" superstar worked for competing record companies.

Additionally, the pair performed 'Fly Away' together for Denver's 1975 Christmas special television show, John Denver's Rocky Mountain Christmas. The performance became a standout moment of the special, highlighting the easy chemistry between the two artists and the song’s warm, uplifting tone.

The two artists remained friendly, and Newton-John later recorded a cover of Denver's 1971 hit “Country Roads” in 1975. The rendition helped introduce the song to an even wider audience, further cementing its status as a crossover classic.

Smooth Radio reported that Newton-John honored Denver after his October 1997 passing by inducting him posthumously into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame.

The entertainment outlet excerpted a passage from Newton-John's book Don't Stop Believin', where she claimed Denver was a spirit guide in her life, along with her parents, friends, and singer Karen Carpenter.

"I often feel as if they hover around me when I perform. They are my spirit guides who I ask to support me before every show, and they keep me strong. They're gone, but their love never dies."

Olivia Newton-John died in 2022. She was 73.

10 Cool Ways to Beat the Heat at Disney World This Summer

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 7:10am

We're officially on the cusp of a classic Central Florida summer, which means soaring temperatures are about to become a standard part of the theme park itinerary. Thankfully, Walt Disney World’s newly announced Cool Kids' Summer lineup—officially running from May 26 through September 8, 2026—is built entirely around helping families maximize their park days without melting under the sun.

If you are looking to outsmart the thermometer on your next vacation, here are 10 very cool, strategically indoor and water-filled ways Disney is helping guests beat the heat this season—along with the best insider tips to keep your crew smiling.

1. Stay at Select Resorts for Exclusive Summer Perks and Family Amenities

Before you even hit the turnstiles, Disney is setting family-focused travelers up for success right at check-in. For summertime only, guests staying at Disney’s Pop Century Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort–Riverside will have access to exclusive experiences and amenities designed specifically for families with young children.

To take the hassle out of traveling light, these four select resorts will provide complimentary items to help care for your little ones during your stay—making everyday essentials readily available as part of this special seasonal offering. And that’s just the beginning of the fun; these properties will also host an expanded itinerary of Disney-themed activities throughout your stay, including scheduled character visits from favorite Disney pals like Mickey and Minnie to help you easily plan your day around the heat.

2. Adopt the "Passholder Pace"

You don't need a year-long pass to borrow the ultimate insider luxury: the ability to slow down. "Sometimes trips get overcomplicated and people put a lot of pressure on themselves to see it all and do it all in just a few days," says Molly McCormack, theme park expert and founder of the popular YouTube channel Mammoth Club. Instead of rushing through a chaotic schedule, take a cue from frequent visitors who treat the parks like a relaxed resort experience. Grab a Joffrey's cold brew, find a shady spot like the hub grass at Magic Kingdom and simply take your time soaking in the atmosphere.

3. Master the Midday Split

When the sun reaches its peak, it’s time to head inside. Experts highly recommend structuring your day around a definitive afternoon intermission. Hit the high-demand outdoor queues early in the morning when temperatures are still manageable. Once the clock strikes noon and the heavy midday heat—or the inevitable Florida afternoon rain—rolls in, retreat to a table-service restaurant reservation or head back to your resort hotel pool for a long, dedicated break.

"Plan your meals or your breaks for the hottest part of the day," McCormack advises. "Get to the parks early to rope drop rides when it's cooler—even though I'm not a morning person—and then plan a meal or a hotel break for the middle of the day when it's going to be really hot or raining. Then, come back to the parks in the evening."

4. Leverage Disney Vacation Club (DVC) Rental Perks

Securing a great accommodation deal can unlock massive heat-busting advantages. Utilizing services like the DVC Rental Store can allow families to score deluxe villa rooms for less. Staying at a deluxe property grants you exclusive access to Extended Evening Theme Park Hours, allowing you to enjoy the parks late at night under the stars, long after the sun has set and the heavy daytime crowds have cleared out. McCormack recommends stacking this perk with other smart booking tools. "With the deals you can score through the DVC Rental Store, you can often stay in deluxe rooms for the cost of a popular moderate resort like Caribbean Beach," she shares.

5. Or, Get Up Early to Dodge the Sun

For all other resort guests, the daily 30-minute Early Theme Park Entry lets you knock out major headliners like the newly enhanced Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin or the new Mando and Grogu mission on Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run before the midday sun even gets a chance to bake the asphalt.

6. Escape the Midday Heat at These New Indoor Attractions View this post on Instagram

When the afternoon sun peaks, head inside to these new, fully air-conditioned spaces to cool off:

  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Board the Wildlife Express Train to Conservation Station for "Bluey’s Wild World," a brand-new interactive play zone where families can step into the Heelers' living room, play games like Keepy Uppy and meet Bluey and Bingo completely out of the sun.
  • Magic Kingdom: Relax at Liberty Square’s historic Diamond Horseshoe saloon for "Jessie’s Roundup," a wild Western music and craft revue.
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Pop into the Animation Courtyard for Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live!, an interactive dance party with Mickey and friends. Right next door, kids can climb through the indoor "Drawn to Wonderland" Playground.
  • EPCOT: Head to CommuniCore Hall for "GoofyCore," an indoor hub featuring interactive crowd games hosted by DJ Dance Pants.

7. Cash In on Free Water Park Access and After-Hours Events

This season, guests checking into a Walt Disney World Resort hotel get free admission to a Disney water park on their check-in day. With both Disney’s Blizzard Beach and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon operating simultaneously all summer long, you can head straight to the lazy river if your room isn't ready.

If you want to experience the water parks or theme parks completely free of the sun, consider investing in a separately ticketed nighttime event. Disney H2O Glow After Hours returns to Typhoon Lagoon on select nights from June 2 to September 5, 2026, offering shorter slide wait times, neon beach parties, and complimentary ice cream under the stars. Traditional Disney After Hours park events offer a similar low-crowd, cooler benefit. "They're an added cost, but you don't have to worry about managing Lightning Lanes, the crowds are very low, and it is literally cool outside. It just makes the experience more enjoyable," McCormack notes.

8. Pack the Ultimate Anti-Chafing Secret Weapon

When it comes to packing your park bag, skipping heavy gadgets and focusing on functional comfort is key. Long hours of walking in high humidity can quickly derail a vacation, and park veterans know that skin irritation can easily ruin a trip. The absolute number-one product recommended by seasoned park professionals is the anti-chafing stick from Mega Babe, a prominent woman-owned beauty company. "Chafing is the absolute worst and can ruin your life," McCormack warns. "Mega Babe is a total lifesaver for walking around the parks in the summer."

9. Seek Out the 'Long A/C' Rides

Every park features massive, heavily air-conditioned pavilions designed for extended indoor stays. At Epcot, The Land and The Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilions offer expansive indoor areas where you can ride, dine and explore for hours without ever stepping back outside. At Magic Kingdom, classic animatronic shows like Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress or The Hall of Presidents offer the perfect 20-minute, air-conditioned respite to sit down and recharge your batteries.

10. Retreat for a Character Goodnight Concert & Smores

The cooling tactics don't stop when you leave the turnstiles. Guests staying at select Disney Resort hotels (like Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, and Port Orleans Riverside) can look forward to exclusive, evening-specific activations. Disney is launching a brand-new goodnight concert series right at the resort pools. It features sweet, live musical arrangements paired with surprise wind-down visits from beloved Disney characters in casual summer attire—offering a gentle, breezy cap to a long park day.

Catch the Best Fireworks Display in the Country While Visiting This Historic City

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:48am

Chicago's Navy Pier has claimed USA Today 10Best's top spot for fireworks viewing for the fourth straight year—and after experiencing the show, you'll see why readers and editors keep voting for it.

Already an iconic Windy City tourist stop, Navy Pier is one of those rare places that’s got it all in one spot: history, great architecture, and dazzling fireworks that live up to the buzz. When it opened in 1916 as "Municipal Pier," it was originally designed as a shipping hub and civic space. It served as a military training center during both World Wars before transforming into the massive entertainment destination it is today. Now, more than 100 years later, millions flock here each summer to watch fireworks explode over Lake Michigan.

Related: One of America’s Most Underrated Destinations Has Tropical Blue Waters, Tasty Seafood, and Sea Caves—and It’s in the Midwest

Why Navy Pier Fireworks Keep Coming in #1

The fireworks themselves are choreographed to music and run twice a week through Labor Day—Wednesdays at 9 p.m., Saturdays at 10 p.m. Each show lasts about 10 minutes, and the setting can’t be beat. You've got the famous Chicago skyline, Lake Michigan, and the glowing Centennial Wheel all creating this perfect backdrop.

This summer, Navy Pier is going big for the Fourth of July. For the first time in over a decade, they're hosting a full 15-minute show—way longer and more extravagant than their usual displays. They're calling it the biggest fireworks show in Navy Pier's entire history, timed for America's 250th birthday.

For the best viewing spot, try to snag a spot on the South Dock, which will put you closest to the action. The Grand Ballroom Terrace also has clear views straight up. If you’re trying to avoid the crowds, head to Ohio Street Beach just south of the pier—it's quieter, and you’ll still get the full skyline framed behind the fireworks. The Lakefront Trail, Maggie Daley Park, charter boats, and rooftop bars scattered around the city work too.

The best part: the Navy Pier show is completely free. No tickets, no reservations, no hidden fees. Just show up and pick your spot. That's what makes it feel like an actual community gathering rather than some manufactured event.

If you’re not near Chicago, don’t worry, there appear to be epic fireworks displays all around the country worth checking out.

New Disney Pantry Staple at Costco Makes Family Dinner Way More Fun

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:45am

Now that Memorial Day weekend has arrived, the unofficial start of summer is here. Backyard cookouts become more frequent, pasta salads start showing up at nearly every gathering, and easy dinners become even more valuable with vacations, pool days, and packed family schedules.

Costco's newest Disney-themed grocery find fits perfectly into the shift toward simple, crowd-pleasing summer meals.

The new OrganicMickey & Friends Pasta Variety Pack combines playful character-shaped pasta with real pantry convenience, making weeknight meals feel a little more fun as summer gets underway. The Disney-themed shapes can also help make mealtime more appealing for children who are selective about what they eat, especially during summer break when routines become less structured and when you often need easy meal solutions on hand.

And if you're planning a Disney vacation this summer, this pasta could even become a fun way to surprise the kids with the news.

You can see it in this May 17 TikTok post from @costcoexperts:

@costcoexperts

New Costco Find! NEW Mickey & Minnie pasta variety pack at Costco. Made in Italy, organic, and honestly just makes pasta night more fun. #costco #costcofinds #disney #disneyfood

One detail that helps this Costco find stand out is that it offers more than simple novelty. The pasta is imported from Italy and made with organic ingredients, giving it a noticeably more elevated feel than many character-themed grocery products typically aimed at children. The 3-pack currently sells for $7.89 under item number 2032088, though availability can vary by warehouse location.

Shoppers are already responding joyfully to the find. One TikTok user from the account @Walmart_awesome_finds commented, "So fun! I will look on my next trip."

The variety pack includes Mickey and Minnie-shaped pasta that works especially well for quick summer dinners and easy side dishes. It can be used in cold pasta salads for Memorial Day gatherings just as easily as it can in warm comfort dishes like creamy mac and cheese, classic marinara pasta, buttery noodles, or simple pasta bowls paired with grilled chicken and vegetables.

Between summer cookouts, vacations, and busy weeknight schedules, Costco's Disney Pasta Variety Pack feels like one of those easy seasonal pantry finds you'll likely reach for again and again all summer long.

I Tried the Viral Way To Make Potato Salad 10x Better and Was Honestly Surprised

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:43am

I have a love-hate relationship with classic potato salad. While I'm happy to eat potatoes in any form, mayonnaise isn't my favorite condiment. I also grew up eating German potato salad, so the idea of tossing mayo into the situation just feels weird to me.

While I still love the potato salad recipe my mom has been making since I was a kid, it admittedly lacks a little in the flavor department. That's why I was so excited to stumble across a recipe for dill pickle potato salad from Michel Janse on TikTok.

This recipe is packed with all kinds of flavor-enhancers most people love, including multiple parts of pickles — the cucumber and brine — and ranch dressing. There is a creamy element, but it's in the form of crème fraîche, which gives this potato salad a more modern vibe. There's no mayo in sight — a move I can get behind.

This potato salad recipe isn't perfect, though: I ran into a few hiccups along the way. But it's pretty close. It's also a huge crowd-pleaser, getting high marks from everyone from my toddler to my husband. Here's why I have big plans to whip this out at my next picnic, and for many dinners beyond that.

What Is Dill Pickle Potato Salad?

courtesy Korin Miller

Dill pickle potato salad is the brainchild of Michel Janse, a social media influencer who regularly posts about fashion and food. While Janse calls this a side dish, it's hearty enough to be a main.

The recipe features smashed baby potatoes, dill, chopped up pickles, creme fraiche and a very creative take on ranch seasoning to create a deconstructed potato salad that tastes as good as it looks.

As Janse explained in her post, she decided to create this after she developed a few cravings. "Follow your heart. Make the things you crave," she said.

@michel.c.janse

People were all about it in the comments. "You said: dill pickle. I said: save recipe immediately!" one wrote. "Stop it right now! Those look amazing!" another said. One commenter said what we're all thinking: "That ranch seasoning twist is genius." (It is. More on that in a moment.)

To start, heat up a pot of one part water and one part pickle brine. Once the mixture starts boiling, add your potatoes and cook them until they're fork-tender.

As they're cooking, make the pickle crème fraîche dip, combining crème fraîche, chopped pickles, pickle brine, Parmesan and chopped dill and chives into a bowl. Set it aside. Preheat your oven to 450°F.

Once your potatoes are cooked, smash them on a baking sheet. Then, relocate them to a bowl. Toss the potatoes with melted butter, ranch seasoning, the fresh herbs, grated Parmesan and salt and pepper.

Spread the seasoned potatoes in a single layer on the baking sheet, and put them in the oven for about 15 minutes or until they're golden brown. Layer the potatoes with prosciutto and top them with flaky salt, more herbs and extra Parmesan. Serve this alongside the pickle crème fraîche dip.

Dill Pickle Potato Salad Review: My Honest Thoughts

I've got to say this right off the bat: This is the tastiest potato salad I've ever eaten. The combination of pickles, pickle juice and ranch seasoning is phenomenal. You get hit with multiple layers of flavor in each bite.

The texture is also perfection. The crunch of the potatoes, mixed with the creaminess of the dip and hidden crunchiness of the pickles makes this something you want to keep eating, even when you're full.

courtesy

I had this for dinner one night (I agree with some commenters: You can make a meal out of this), followed by lunch and dinner the next day.

The recipe leaves some room for interpretation, and Janse even said that's by design. It's easy to assume that you should go easy on the salt for the potatoes, given the brine bath and Ranch seasoning, but I found it needed a little more salt than I thought. I added some when I was eating and it ended up perfect.

It's worth pointing out that you really need a generous helping of the dip to pull this all together. If you don't put enough on your plate, the potatoes taste a little dry. In fact, I'd consider adding a little olive oil to them along with the melted butter before baking to make the finished product more moist.

Overall, though, this potato salad is top-tier with pretty minimal effort on your end. You can even make the pickle crème fraîche dip ahead of time and pull this all together at the last minute. All in all, it took me about 40 minutes to cook, including potato cooking times when you're free to do something else.

I love a good crowd-pleasing party dish. This is my new favorite.

Tips and Tricks
  • Consider having extra pickles around. You need a lot of brine for this (for the cooking liquid and dip). I had to reach for another jar of pickles to make sure I had enough for all of it.
  • Watch the pickle juice amount in the dip. The recipe calls for 3-4 tablespoons of pickle brine in the dip, but the vinegar in the brine can break the crème fraîche, making it important to go slow and stir as you add it.
  • Taste as you go. The baseline seasonings are amazing, but the saltiness can be tricky to get right, given that it's coming from the brine and ranch seasoning. Taste as you go to make sure you get it right.

King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain Celebrate 22nd Wedding Anniversary

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:39am

King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain celebrated 22 years of marriage yesterday!

Back in 2004 he was Crown Prince Felipe and she was former news anchor Letizia Ortez. The couple exchanged vows below the soaring vaults of Almudena Cathedral in Madrid in front of 1,200 guests.

Prince Charles was in attendance alongside members of other royal households including Queen Rania of Jordan, Prince Albert of Monaco, and Princess Madeleine of Sweden.

Letizia's dress was embroidered with real gold and with a price tag of $13.7 million it ranks among the most expensive royal wedding dresses of all time.

The skirt of the dress and the 15-foot train were embroidered with lilies, the symbol of the Spanish royal dynasty, and ears of wheat to symbolize fertility and abundance.

She accessorized with the breathtakingly delicate diamond Prussian tiara, which her mother-in-law Queen Sofia wore when she married King Juan Carlos in 1962.

They have two children, 20-year-old Leonor, Princess of Asturias, and 19-year-old Infanta Sofía.

Dolly Parton Buried a 'Really Good' Song in a Time Capsule Set to Open in 2045 When She's Almost 100 Years Old

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:38am

Dolly Parton has written over 3000 songs, but there's one "really good song" in particular that she wishes she could get back, but she'll have to wait until 2045 to hear it again.

At the opening of her Dollywood DreamMore resort, near her Dollywood theme park in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in 2015, Parton buried a time capsule. Enclosed was the song, a cassette player, and a CD player, set not to open until the facility marked its 30th anniversary.

She told Kelly Clarkson in 2022 that the song was written to commemorate the resort's opening. However, expressed regret about her decision to bury the song for so long.

“I put that in the box, but I had to write this song that nobody was gonna hear ‘til then. And I tell you, you have no idea how much that has bothered me," she told Clarkson.

"I wanna go dig that up so bad and think, 'Well I need to use that song, cause like, you know, and it’s a really good song,'” she told Clarkson, who erupted in laughter. “Hopefully it’ll be special."

“It was an odd feeling to be asked to write a song that was not going to be heard,” Parton added. “They said, ‘You’ll be long dead.’ I said, ‘Well, maybe not. I’ll be 99. I’ve seen people live to be older than that. So I wrote this song, and I can’t say what it is.”

"I don’t know whose damn idea that was," she concluded. "They weren’t expecting me to be there at all, and I probably won’t be. I might be there – who knows. I figure it'll probably disintegrate and nobody will ever hear it."

The song is just one of thousands Parton has written throughout the years. In an interview with newsman Dan Rather for The Big Interview, she revealed, "I write all the time. I've been writing since I was a little kid."

"I have published hundreds and hundreds of songs. Every drawer, every box, in my basement. I've got songs stuck everywhere."

"I pull out a drawer to get some drawers, and find a song in there!" she exclaimed to Rather. "It's what I do. It's my therapy, it's my job, it's my joy. It's like a poet, everything is a song to me."

Joe Mantegna Returns to Annual Memorial Day Concert After Missing Last Year

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:12am

UPDATE:Joe Mantegna has been forced to pull out of the 2026 National Memorial Day Concert for the second year in a row. Actress Mary McCormack is now stepping in alongside Gary Sinise. Read more here.

The original story continues below.

Joe Mantegna is returning to the National Memorial Day Concert this weekend after being forced to miss last year’s event due to a medical issue.

The Criminal Minds star has co-hosted the annual PBS special alongside actor and veterans advocate Gary Sinise since 2006, making their partnership one of the event’s defining traditions. Last year, however, Mantegna was unexpectedly unable to appear just days before the live broadcast, with actor Esai Morales stepping in at the last minute.

At the time, Mantegna later revealed on Instagram that he was unable to fly because of an ear issue.

Now, Mantegna and Sinise are officially back together for the 2026 National Memorial Day Concert, which airs live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol on Sunday, May 24.

“We honor and remember all our American heroes, from the all-volunteer force that won our independence in the American Revolution to the over one-million men and women who have given their lives since our nation’s founding 250 years ago,” Mantegna said in a statement announcing this year’s event.

“Joe and I are deeply honored to co-host this 37-year tradition at the U.S. Capitol and salute those who have worn the uniform—past and present—and their families who have stood beside them,” added Sinise.

Sinise recently reflected on how meaningful the annual concert has become for both actors over the years. During an appearance on the Chicago-based interview series Hollywood & Ivy, the actor said he especially looks forward to Memorial Day every year because of the concert’s significance.

Sinise explained that he first became involved in 2005 after being invited to participate in a segment honoring the USO. After performing with his Lt. Dan Band in Europe for troops overseas, he flew directly to Washington, D.C., for the concert. A year later, Mantegna asked him to officially become co-host.

“We’ve been doing it together ever since,” Sinise said.

This year’s concert will honor 250 years of military service and sacrifice in the United States and feature appearances by several major stars, including Noah Wyle, Jonathan Banks and Melissa Leo.

The event will also include performances by Alan Jackson, Mickey Guyton, Jamey Johnson, Andy Grammer, Laura Osnes, Blessing Offor and Mary McCormack alongside the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Jack Everly.

The 2026 National Memorial Day Concert airs live Sunday, May 24, from 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. ET on PBS. The special will also stream on YouTube and PBS platforms and will be available on demand through June 7.

The 4 Birth Months That Make Everyone Feel Like They Matter

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:11am

Different people have different effects on us. Some energize us, others ground us by calming us down, and others make us feel like we matter. When someone makes us feel important, it creates a strong, lasting bond with them. Being seen evokes a feeling unlike anything else we experience, giving us confidence, expanding our hearts, and deepening our faith in humanity. Read on to discover which four birth months are most likely to make virtually everyone feel like they matter in their presence, according to an expert astrologer.

Which Birth Months Make Everyone Feel Special?

Certain birth months, four to be exact, carry a special type of energy that makes others feel special in a specific type of way. Those born in October, May, July, and November are often appreciated for their devotion, patience, nurturance, and emotional capacity that make others feel like they matter—they are below.

October: The Devoted Friend

When it comes to truly feeling heard, nothing compares to receiving emotional support from someone born in October. This is the birth month where social grace and thoughtful, emotional rapport meet. They're truly devoted to being there for those who are important to them and are among the most devoted friends someone can have. October babies carry the perfect combination of light and dark energies. They are fun to have around, but can also be emotionally mature when the time calls for it. Combining Libra’s polite demeanor with Scorpio’s emotional depth, this birth month likes to go deep. They are the ones tapping into other people’s deepest feelings, as they aren’t afraid of having deep conversations. Since relationships are incredibly important to them, they prioritize them. They naturally invest time and effort in making those around them feel noticed, understood, and appreciated.

RELATE?: The 4 Birth Dates That Are Destined for Karmic Relationships

May: The Patient Listener

Being able to truly listen is a skill very few have, as it requires a good amount of both patience and open-mindedness. Those born in May are known for having these skills, making everyone who comes into their orbit feel special. Combining Taurus’ legendary patience with Gemini’s probing mind, this birth month is communicative in a way that feels approachable. Individuals born now are the ones truly listening to people’s thoughts, sorrows, and desires. They have enough patience to listen and observe those around them without feeling the need to judge either the person or the situation at hand. They take the time to fully digest the information they receive before responding, creating a cycle of understanding with their family, friends, and collaborators. Curious and reliable, they ask the right questions, often helping others gain self-awareness. They are eager to truly learn about what drives those around them, making them feel like they matter.

CURIOUS?: These 4 Birth Months Hit Their Stride Later in Life

July: The Generous Nurturer

While some months go emotionally deep and others truly listen, those born in July make others feel better by nurturing them. By combining Cancer’s maternal instinct with Leo’s warm radiance, July-borns are the generous nurturers. On the one hand, individuals born in this month are the ones who cook and care for their loved ones when they are sick. On the other hand, they also provide passionate inspiration to those in need of motivation to assert themselves. Whatever the situation, they can step in to make it better. Those born in July are heart-warming, generous nurturers who are also extremely loyal. Once they have let someone into their hearts, the relationship is bound to last for a very long time. Being emotionally involved with them often feels so emotionally rich that it may feel fated, as if you've known them in another life. In many ways, they make those around them feel like family, inspiring a feeling of true belonging.

November: The Emotional Guide

Not everyone is comfortable immersing themselves in the up-and-down, complex world of emotions. Luckily, those with November birthdays not only like to swim this deep—they thrive in this space. Merging Scorpio’s penetrating focus with the Sagittarian philosophical inclination, November-born are spiritually gifted, something they often share with others. The reason most people call their November friends during emotional crises is that, instead of ignoring or running away from feelings, they examine them by first expanding them. November-borns are masters at getting to the heart of a situation and finding its positive side; the part of it that can lead to personal growth down the road. They are emotional alchemists for themselves and others alike, often showing their friends and family that their feelings matter.

Why Beaches Turks & Caicos’ New Village Is the Ultimate Family Getaway for Gen Xers, Grandparents and Kids

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:10am

Beaches Turks and Caicos, the Sandals property that caters to families of all ages, officially opened Treasure Beach Village earlier this year, and I recently had the pleasure of checking it out. Located along the famously gorgeous Grace Bay Beach, this new sprawling $150 million expansion is the latest addition to the six villages that comprise the resort.

As a fan of Sandals Montego Bay and Sandals Ocho Rios, I knew I’d be in for an unforgettable stay—and I was right. The all-inclusive resort offers everything a Gen Xer and mom of two like me could want and more.

Here’s my honest review of my stay at the family-friendly property.

The Lobby and Check-in Process Photo Courtesy of Karla Pope

As soon as I hopped off the shuttle (more on that later), I was warmly greeted by several cheery staffers who welcomed me “home” and handed me a cold towel and a refreshing cucumber and lime drink that instantly cooled me down. Of course, this hospitable encounter was accompanied by rhythmic island beats.

The breezy, open-air lobby was inviting with a coastal-chic vibe perfect for lounging or chatting with fellow guests. Decorated with flourishes of pale pink, turquoise and cream hues throughout, the lobby is flanked by two striking spiral staircases that lead to the movie theater and check-in area.

Speaking of checking in, the process was virtually seamless. Upon arrival, I was escorted to a bright room with ample seating, light snacks, and a play area for kids to pass the time. I was asked to fill out a form with my departure times. Since I arrived after check-in time, I was quickly guided to my room.

The Rooms  Courtesy of Karla Pope

As soon as I walked into my room, my jaw literally dropped. Sure, I was expecting it to be a nice new suite ideal for families with children. But I didn’t think it would exceed my expectations the way it did. I stayed on the fourth floor (there are five floors) in a two-bedroom suite outfitted with bunk beds, two bathrooms and a spacious balcony with breathtaking views of the pools and sparkling ocean. The kids’ room and main bedroom are separated by a door for added privacy.

Seahorse, starfish and turtle motifs were woven throughout the space, creating a whimsical, aquatic vibe that appeals to guests of all ages. All the furnishings were ultra-modern with natural textures, and more importantly, comfortable.

The walls were awash in a mesmerizing turquoise blue reminiscent of the waters of Grace Bay Beach below. Accents of orange complemented the tropical-inspired, blue and cream palette.

With 101 rooms and suites to choose from, there are accommodations to fit just about any budget or family size.

Food and Drinks Courtesy of Karla Pope

There are many people who frown upon all-inclusive resorts, but I’m not one of them. In fact, when I’m traveling with my family, I prefer packages that make dining a seamless experience—and that is exactly what you get here. There are six new dining concepts and two new restaurants within Treasure Beach Village.

For those who need a jolt of java in the morning, there’s Brü, a coffee shop that also offers fresh pastries and light bites. When the sun sets, it transforms into a specialty cocktail bar. There is also Butch’s Island Chop House, a steakhouse that serves a variety of classic dishes like filet mignon and red snapper with a flavorful Caribbean twist. I had the snapper and it was seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection. Finally, there’s Pinta, a food hall boasting a menu featuring four different cuisines, including Asian, Italian, Mexican and of course, Caribbean. This restaurant was my favorite because I was able to sample a mix of ethnic dishes to satisfy my adventurous palate.

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that all four cuisines were also offered for breakfast too. Guests can enjoy chilaquiles, egg foo young patties and other internationally inspired fare for guests to enjoy.

Keep in mind, all Beaches Turks and Caicos guests can dine at any of the additional 28 restaurants throughout the seven villages.

Pools and Amenities Courtesy of Karla Pope

If lounging by the pool is a must, you’re in luck. Thanks to the property’s 15,000-square-foot lagoon style pool, there is plenty of space to take a plunge. While I didn’t take a dip, I did watch families enjoying swimming in the pool and cooling down at the swim-up bar. Since I had a bird’s-eye view of the pool deck from my room, I noticed that it never seemed overly crowded. There were also no lines for the whirlpools or waterslide. I guess with the teal-colored ocean only steps away, it’s easy to understand why the white sand beach might be the preferred choice.

Also, there are plenty of pools at the other six villages, including a waterpark. That’s the beauty of Beaches Turks and Caicos, if your area gets too crowded, you can always hop on a golf cart or walk to one of the neighboring villages.

While sunbathing on the beach or sipping piña coladas poolside is always a good idea, sometimes you just need a break from the heat. Starfish Cinema, the property’s on-site movie theater is a great way to cool down and still have fun. For me, the best part of going to the movies are the refreshments. Luckily, I was not disappointed. Guests can indulge in variety of complimentary candy, fountain sodas and of course, fresh popcorn for the ultimate movie-watching experience. Throughout the day, the 32-seat theater runs sitcoms and family-friendly films like Barbie.

I popped into the theater just to get a sneak peek and it appeared to be a cool and inviting place to spend an afternoon or rainy day. Of course, I grabbed a bag of gummy bears on my way out.

Fun Activities for All Courtesy of Karla Pope

Guests staying at Treasure Beach Village can partake in any of the family-friendly activities offered at the sister villages, including the Pirate’s Island Waterpark, dance parties with Sesame Street characters, a kids’ camp, water sports and other entertainment.

Plus, there are also complimentary excursions for families of all ages to enjoy. During my stay, I took a catamaran cruise that sailed the bay and docked for snorkeling. Turks and Caicos’ crystal-clear water makes it an ideal destination for seeing schools of fish, families of sea turtles and other marine life. Even if you don’t snorkel, the boat ride alone is worth it.

I also participated in the Sandals Foundation’s Reading Road Trip, which is a program where guests can sign up to visit local schools and read to students. They’re also encouraged to bring school supplies and books for the children.

I had the absolute pleasure to read to a small group of kindergarteners. They were bright and delightful. What struck me the most about my visit was the students’ generosity. They graciously shared their snacks with me and their fellow classmates. Although this excursion isn’t complimentary (starting from $35 per person), it’s worth every cent to get the chance to give back and connect with young children. This was my first time participating in an educational excursion like this and it was one of the main highlights of my trip.

Getting There

Since I live in New York City, I took a direct flight fromJFK airport to Providenciales International Airport. Other direct routes to the island include flights out of Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Dallas and Houston, to name a few.

After the nearly 4-hour flight and clearing customs, I waited in a brief line and boarded our shuttle. boarded our shuttle. Round-trip airport transportation is automatically included with all stays at Beaches Turks & Caicos, so you’ll be whisked away to the resort completely stress-free. The best part? The resort is just a short 15–20-minute ride from the airport. Guests can also book private transportation for an additional out-of-pocket fee.

What Blew Me Away Most Photo Karla Pope

For Gen Xers, Beaches Treasure Village is the perfect multi-generational escape. I’ve always had the impression that Beaches only catered to young children, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that there are also plenty of fun activities for tweens and teens to enjoy. It’s an ideal property for families of all ages.

From roomy, luxury accommodations to fun and enriching activities, this newest addition to the Beaches Turks and Caicos resort is a true treasure where parents, grandparents and kids can call “home” while making memories that will last a lifetime.

I Tried Out 6 Free Household Budgeting Apps for 6 Weeks—and the Best One Was Obvious

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:09am

There are so many things to consider when you're trying to manage your money properly. Whether you like to travel often and want to open a miles credit card to save some cash or are looking to retire soon, it's tough to know exactly how much you'll need and when. That's where budgeting apps come in. These helpful virtual assistants provide an easy, comprehensive look at your entire financial picture. Whether you want to keep better track of your expenses or you're interested in long-term financial goal-setting, they've got your back. I recently tried out six free budgeting apps for six weeks and I can confidently say that the best one was obvious.

I know that everyone has different needs and goals when it comes to their household budgets. I tried out apps that are good for every type of situation—whether you're single, have a partner or a family, each of these apps has something to offer. While my ranking is in no way the end-all be-all, I'm sharing my experience using each of these financial apps below, along with some pros and cons of each.

Take a look below at my ranking and my number one pick. Hopefully, you'll find one that can help you save, manage and keep track of your money.

What Are Household Budgeting Apps?

CanvaPro

Budgeting apps are designed to help you track your income and outgoing expenses. They can be incredibly helpful, whether you live on your own, with a partner or have a family. The goal of a budgeting app is to help give you a comprehensive overview of your finances as a whole, almost acting like a digital financial manager.

Many of these apps will analyze your spending habits too, showing you where most of your money goes so you can adjust your spending accordingly.

I Tried 6 Free Household Budgeting Apps, and Ranked Them From Worst To Best6. GoodBudget

Apple App Store rating: 4.6/5 stars
Pricing: Free & Premium: $10 per month/$80 annually

GoodBudget is a decent app, but the free version is pretty limited. If you really want to unlock the benefits of this app, you'll have to pay for the Premium version. If you do opt for the free version, though, it only offers manual entry of your data and no automatic syncing.

A few features of note include the app's envelope system, which allocates all income to specific spending categories to help you prevent going over budget. You can even track your income and expenses manually, and those can be added to your envelopes as well. It also provides debt tracking and budget-sharing, which syncs budgets across multiple devices (great for families). A goal-planning feature is also included to help you save for larger purchases.

Overall, this isn't a "bad" app in any way. I'm only ranking it lower on this list because the free version is super limited. Adding data manually every day got really tiring for me, and I found myself slacking on using it sometimes because of it.

5. EveryDollar

Apple App Store rating: 4.7/5 stars
Pricing: Free & Premium: $17.99 a month/$79.99 a year

Like GoodBudget, EveryDollar's free version is a bit limited, so you may have to get the Premium version if you want to unlock all the benefits. Manual transaction tracking is also required on the free version of this app, making it a bit tedious to use. But other features include the creation of unlimited budget categories, expense-tracking on multiple devices and transaction-splitting (dividing one expense across multiple budget categories).

It also adopts a "zero-based budgeting" style, which assigns every dollar you make to a specific category.

This one is nice because you can view custom reports on your income and spending, even when using the free version. Overall, it's a solid app, but I'm only ranking it a bit lower due to the manual expense tracking. On the bright side, the premium version does offer automatic syncing at least.

4. Neontra

Apple App Store rating: 2/5 stars
Pricing: Free & Premium: $9 a month/$75 a year

While Neontra offers a super comprehensive look at your finances and is great for someone who likes to have the big, long-term picture, I think it can be a little overwhelming if you're just looking to track daily or weekly spending.

One of the standout features of this app includes the ability to automatically sync things like your bank accounts, credit cards, investments and personal loans. While you don't have to do this, it is nice not to have to enter data manually, and it can track things without much effort from you. The only issue is that you're limited to one automatic sync connection with a financial institution if you're using the free version.

You can also share an account within a family, so you have an overview of everyone's finances, which could definitely be nice if you want to track your entire household. Additionally, you can view your income spending over any period of time, including daily, weekly, monthly and yearly. It even allows you to create custom categories for your spending, and you can track your debt and any debt payment plans.

This app focuses a lot on analytics and gets pretty far in the weeds with the data. But for me, I found this to be a little too overwhelming for just wanting to track my daily and weekly spending. It veers into the territory of a stock portfolio, and if you're not a finance whiz like me, it might be a bit much. While it is nice to be able to get a look at every single thing going on in your financial life, I just prefer something a little simpler.

3. Fina Money

Pricing: Free, Premium: $12 a month/$99 a year, Business: $25 a month/$240 a year.

This AI-powdered app is really robust. It allows you to build your own dashboards, but it doesn't allow for automatic syncing on the free version—something to keep in mind.

What's nice about this app, in my opinion, is that you can separate different categories of your financial life (business, personal, etc.), making it great for people who are self-employed or own their own business. You can also set up different ways of looking at your budget, including a percentage-based chart or by time range. It can also help you track your personal net worth if that's something you'd like to do. And while it's not on the Apple App Store, I was able to access it via browser on my phone through the sign-up link on their site.

Overall, this is a great app, and I ranked it higher because I'm self-employed. It's really helpful to be able to add categories for tax-saving and write-offs for when it comes time to do my taxes. While I didn't like that automatic syncing is unavailable on the free version, I liked this app enough to want to potentially invest in the premium version. Like Neontra, it too gets a bit too far in the weeds with the data, but I found it a little easier to navigate.

2. NerdWallet

Apple App Store rating: 4.8/5 stars
Pricing: Free

While NerdWallet definitely shares a lot of similarities with Neontra, it offers a lot for being a free app. For starters, its financial "dashboard" gives you a really nice overview of all your spending, cash flow and overall net worth. It allows for credit score tracking, monitors your income and expenses and, if you have investment accounts, allows you to monitor their performance too.

There's also the option with NerdWallet to open a high-yield savings account, where you can earn interest on whatever money you put into the account. I also like that this app offers more educational content, like its "ask an advisor" feature, where you can get real-world financial advice from someone on the team.

While this one does offer similar features to Neontra, I found it a little easier to navigate, and the addition of credit score tracking was extremely helpful.

1. PocketGuard

Apple App Store rating: 4.6/5 stars
Pricing: Free & Premium: $12.99 a month/$74.99 a year

I was impressed with how PocketGuard makes everything really easy for you. It calculates "in my pocket" funds (income you have after your bills, goals and other expenses are taken care of). I found this so helpful because that's what I was really looking for out of a budgeting app. I'm guilty of online shopping frequently, and this app helped me calculate how much money I could realistically spend without going over budget. While I believe in setting a good budget, I also don't believe in being crazy restrictive when it comes to my finances, so this feature was key for me.

What's also great about this app is that it features automatic syncing on the free version! And I like how it allows you to monitor your subscription services, and you can customize budget categories. (The premium version allows you to upgrade to unlimited tracking and debt management. It's also extra secure and requires a PIN to view all your information.)

I loved how comprehensive yet simple this app was. It's exactly what I was looking for in my daily life, and that's why it's ranked as the best free budgeting app in my list.

The bright lemon print paired with the blue-and-white stripes gives it such a cheerful, summery vibe—like something that belongs next to a pool towel and a big container of pasta salad.

The set comes with two different sizes, which is actually super handy because you can use the larger one for drinks and bigger items, while the smaller bag is perfect for snacks, fruit or keeping desserts from getting squished. The navy handles make them easy to carry, and the structured shape helps keep everything upright rather than collapsing into a soggy mess halfway through the day. Even when they're just sitting on a kitchen counter waiting to be packed, they add a fun pop of color.

While I'm partial to the lemon print, this set comes in two other colorways—orange (with teal accents) and seashells (a pink-and-white color scheme).

There are so many cute finds at Aldi right now, from comfy slip-on sneakers to sweet pajama sets. If you're planning some summer entertaining, the grocer is also selling pretty lidded tumblers that are perfect for sipping drinks on your porch, as well as a gorgeous acacia centerpiece bowl for only $19.99.

‘Jaws’ Legend Suddenly Cancels Rare Reunion Appearance for 1975 No. 1 Movie

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 6:04am

Richard Dreyfuss will be a no-show at The Hollywood Show. The legendary actor revealed he will not attend the highly anticipated Jaws reunion at the fanfest, which takes place next week at the Burbank Airport Hotel in Burbank, California.

Dreyfuss, 78, shared the bad news with fans on Instagram on May 22, writing, “It truly breaks my heart that I won’t be able to attend the reunion at The Hollywood Show May 29th & 30th. Please know this was never the outcome I hoped for. Due to circumstances completely beyond my control, it has become impossible for me to be there in person.”

“My heart is absolutely with my fellow cast members who will be attending,” the actor added. “Sharing this journey with them has been one of the greatest blessings of my life, and I know they’ll make this celebration unforgettable.”

Dreyfuss also thanked all of the Jaws cast, organizers, and fans for making the reunion possible. “While I may not be there physically, I’ll certainly be there in spirit,” he wrote. “I hope the weekend is filled with laughter, memories, celebration, and the kind of joy this fandom has always created so beautifully.”

Dreyfuss played marine biologist Matt Hooper in Jaws, which was the No. 1 movie when it was released in June 1975.

More than 50 years later, The Hollywood Show was set to feature “the largest reunion of the classic film’s cast” ever, according to ReMind magazine, with Dreyfuss, Carl Gottlieb, Ted Grossman, Carla Hogendyk, Robert Tanenbaum, Joe Alves, Jeffrey Voorhees, Greg Dole, Jeffery Kramer, Dennis Prince, and Jonathan and Steven Searle.

Dreyfuss’s Hollywood Show cancellation comes less than a year after he was forced to opt out of another Jaws-themed event tied to the film’s 50th anniversary. In July 2025, the actor canceled his appearance at SharkCon after he fell ill. In a message to fans, Dreyfuss shared that he was diagnosed with viral bronchitis and was told by doctors he would not be allowed to fly the five hours to the fan event in Tampa, Florida, People magazine reported at the time.

Your Tarot Card for Abundance, Based on Your Birth Month

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 5:11am

Tarot has long been used as a tool for insight, self-reflection, and spiritual guidance, but it can also reveal energetic patterns associated with abundance, success, and prosperity. Each tarot card carries its own unique wisdom surrounding manifestation, opportunity, self-worth, creativity, discipline, and the ways we cultivate fulfillment in our lives. Certain cards align with the personality traits and energetic strengths associated with different birth months, offering insight into how people may best attract abundance into their lives.

As the creator of the Cosmo Tarot deck, I’ve spent years working closely with tarot as both a spiritual practice and a manifestation tool in my own life and with my clients. I’ve noticed that certain cards consistently reflect how different people approach aspects of success, including money, worthiness, fear, and personal growth. While abundance is usually associated with finances, tarot reminds us that prosperity also includes emotional fulfillment, stability, joy, connection, creativity, and feeling supported in the life you’re creating for yourself.

Ahead, discover the tarot card connected to abundance for your birth month and what it reveals about the way you naturally attract abundance into your life.

January: The Devil

People born in January create abundance when they stop minimizing their ambition and fully commit to building the life they want while staying true to their personal vision of success. With Capricorn’s discipline and determination and Aquarius’s individuality and rebellious streak, the Devil is the perfect card for this month’s material mastery, magnetism, and personal power. The Devil breaks free from limitations and understands that the path to success doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s in order for it to work.

February: The Star

Those born in February attract abundance through their originality. By embracing their unique gifts rather than trying to conform, they find their sense of success. With Aquarius’s visionary energy and Pisces’s imagination aided by a healthy dose of intuition, February-borns do their best when wildly inspired. Because of this, they connect with the Star who embodies authenticity, hope, spiritual alignment, and creativity. The Star also has a sense of faith in what’s possible, reflecting how people born in February thrive when they allow themselves to dream bigger rather than limit themselves to what feels realistic.

March: Queen of Cups

People born in March create abundance through creativity, healing work, and trusting their intuition, especially when making major decisions. Encompassing Pisces’ sensitive nature and wealth of inspiration as well as Aries’ courage and instinctual drive,  those born in this month align with the emotional intelligence, compassion, and inner guidance of the Queen of Cups. Their abundance grows when they stop second-guessing themselves and fully honor the wisdom of their emotions and gut feelings.

April: The Emperor

People born in April attract abundance through good old-fashioned hard work! The Emperor is the card of discipline, structure, and stability, enhancing Aries’ leadership skills and self-confidence as well as Taurus’s patience and determination. When their persistence is channeled properly, the rewards are high because of their willingness to fully commit to their goals. Rather than chasing overnight success, April-borns build abundance slowly and intentionally, creating strong foundations that support long-term growth.

May: The Empress

Those born in May create abundance through their artistic expression, relationships, and ability to create lives that feel both emotionally and aesthetically fulfilling. Taurus's sensuality, appreciation for beauty, and desire for comfort, along with Gemini’s curiosity, social charm, and excellent communication skills, align with the nurturing and magnetic energy of the Empress. June: Ace of Cups

People born in June easily create abundance when they focus on their self-care. Gemini’s inquisitive mind and open receptivity, as well as Cancer’s empathy and nurturing instincts, show that both signs are deeply sensitive. A desire to nurture others is beautiful, but care cannot be given from an empty cup. The Ace of Cups relates to our relationship with ourselves and the importance of self-love and self-care, serving as an excellent reminder for those born in June to maintain their energy without overextending into burnout.  Abundance grows more easily when individuals born in this month give themselves the same love and compassion they so naturally give to others.

July: The Sun

People born in July attract abundance when they allow themselves to fully shine and take up space in the spotlight of their own lives. Cancer’s warmth and sensitivity, combined with Leo’s confidence and charisma, are a perfect match for The Sun. This card embodies radiance, joy, and success, illuminating the power of confidence and of unapologetically being seen, while also serving as a reassuring signal from the Universe that one’s endeavors are blessed with good energy and that everything is working out in one’s favor.

August: King of Wands

People born in August find abundance when they fully embrace their leadership potential. With Leo’s fiery passion and charismatic magnetism and Virgo’s precision and diligence, ambition is basically written in the stars, making the King of Wands an excellent source of inspiration for both signs. This card embodies visionary entrepreneurship and the ability to motivate others to believe in a collective vision and carry it to fruition. August-borns achieve the most success when they trust their instincts, take bold, creative risks, and step confidently into leadership roles.

RESONATE?: The 4 Birth Months Blessed With Guardian Angel Protection

September: Justice

People born in September create abundance by maintaining a sense of balance in their lives and learning to protect their energy with healthy boundaries. Virgo’s practicality and exquisite attention to detail, combined with Libra’s desire for harmony and fairness, align with the grounded energy of Justice. This card reflects discernment and the importance of making thoughtful decisions that manifest in big dreams coming true. Because September-borns can overextend themselves while trying to keep everyone satisfied and everything running smoothly, Justice serves as a helpful reminder that a sense of balance requires knowing when to say no, slow down, and prioritize their own well-being while still maintaining their relationships, routines, and responsibilities.

October: Queen of Pentacles

People born in October manifest abundance when they embrace generosity and allow prosperity to flow through their lives without the fear of losing it. Fair-minded Libra and resourceful Scorpio understand their worth while learning to release scarcity mindsets, trust themselves, and manage their resources wisely. This wise approach aligns with the nurturing energy of the Queen of Pentacles, a card that reminds us wealth extends beyond financial success to include the value of one’s time, energy, and overall well-being. For those born in October, abundance grows when they stop treating rest, support, and reciprocity as luxuries and begin to see them as an essential foundation for success.

November: Death

Individuals born in November understand the importance of embracing change to create their own abundance. Success isn't achieved overnight and usually takes a fair amount of dedication, but if something isn’t working, the best choice is to know when to pivot, try something else, or even end it before it gets worse. Scorpios understand the power of transformation, while Sagittarius is fearless to take on a new adventure, making the Death card, tarot’s symbol of transition, change, and endings, an excellent match for these two signs to create abundance. For November-borns, success begins the moment they stop clinging to what has outgrown them, making space for something more aligned to begin.

December: Wheel of Fortune

Individuals born in December create abundance through optimism and an openness to unexpected opportunities. Sagittarius’s adventurous spirit and expansive perspective, as well as Capricorn’s ambition and long-term vision, align with the ever-changing energy of the Wheel of Fortune. This card embraces timing, momentum, and the twists and turns that redirect people towards something even better than the original plan. December-borns thrive when they remain adaptable during periods of transition while staying committed to their larger goals. Sagittarius brings the faith needed to believe new possibilities exist, while Capricorn provides the discipline required to turn those opportunities into lasting success.

We Asked 3 Travel Experts for Their Top Hidden European Summer Destinations—Here's What They Said

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 5:10am

With Memorial Day officially launching the start of summer, the countdown is on to plan that bucket-list getaway or highly anticipated return trip to Europe. It's easy to see why Europe remains a favorite choice for travelers—few places on earth combine such a beautiful mix of vibrant history, stunning scenery and rich culture. However, classic hotspots like the French Riviera or the Amalfi Coast book up months in advance, get packed shoulder-to-shoulder with tourists and command sky-high nightly rates.

Fortunately, it’s not too late to pull off a dream summer escape—you just have to know where to look. To uncover under-the-radar, more moderately priced alternatives that skip the heavy crowds, we asked three top travel planners to share their exclusive insider picks. Each travel professional recommended a unique destination celebrated for its scenery, history and incredible food scene, showcasing the full range of Europe's capacity for both distinct outdoor exploration and quiet coastal retreats. Whether you're looking for a dramatic Atlantic volcanic island, a culinary-forward coastal region or a sun-drenched Balkan hideaway, here are the top three hidden gems to add to your radar this summer.

Nestled in the Atlantic Ocean, Madeira is a Portuguese archipelago celebrated for its breathtaking volcanic landscapes, lush gardens and breezy subtropical climate. While many travelers are familiar with Madeira wine, fewer have explored the island itself—though travel advisors note its dramatic scenery and rich culture offer a spectacular retreat for every type of visitor.

Madeira stands out for its mix of Mediterranean and tropical appeal, historic landmarks and world-class hiking. “The island’s main city, Funchal, boasts charming old streets dating back to the 15th century, vibrant markets and a welcoming atmosphere where many locals speak English, making it easy to explore,” says Kelly Connor, a travel agent with AAA Travel Alliance in Marlton, New Jersey.

The climate is delightful year-round, but summer is particularly appealing. With average temperatures hovering around 77°F, it serves as the perfect backdrop for outdoor adventure without the intense heat waves often found on the European mainland. Popular activities include dolphin and whale watching, hiking the island's famous scenic trails and swimming in natural volcanic pools. While Madeira is not known for traditional white-sand beaches, its unique black-sand coves, pebble shores and ocean-fed lidos provide unforgettable waterfront experiences. Seixal Beach, framed by dramatic cliffs and cascading waterfalls, is a particular favorite among travelers.

“Madeira is also considered a moderately priced destination as European island destinations go for lodging, dining and activities,” Connor notes. For instance, she points out that comfortable accommodations at a standard hotel typically cost $200 or less per night, proving that a dream summer getaway doesn't have to come with a sky-high price tag.

The Basque region stretches across the Bay of Biscay, sitting in the northeastern corner of Spain and the far southwestern corner of France. “This region is becoming more and more popular (mostly thanks to cruise ships), but it's still far from the extreme crowds of places like Barcelona,” says Kayla Zeigler, a travel planner and owner of Destination Europe, LLC, a Virtuoso agency in Columbus, Ohio. “Even in the summer, you see mostly locals rather than hordes of tourists.”

Zeigler describes the local beaches as “pristine and plentiful” and notes the area is an ideal pick for food and wine enthusiasts. “The region itself has more Michelin stars per capita than anywhere else in the world, and just next door is the famous Spanish wine region of La Rioja,” she adds.

The most popular destination is probably San Sebastian, Spain. Known as the culinary capital of the Basque coast, the charming seaside city boasts more than a dozen Michelin stars alone. Just an hour away sits Bilbao, the capital of the Spanish Basque region and home to the world-class Guggenheim Museum. “Bilbao is also an incredible foodie destination,” Zeigler shares. Right across the border is the French Basque region, anchored by the elegant resort town of Biarritz. Located only 30 minutes from San Sebastián, the proximity makes it incredibly easy to combine both countries into an easy weeklong itinerary or even longer.

With its numerous beaches, charming towns, diverse cuisine and dramatic coastal scenery, Basque country is also ideal for boating and outdoor activities. The region’s cooler maritime climate also offers a refreshing break from the intense heat waves found elsewhere in Southern Europe.

Because many of the coastal towns are small and feature intimate boutique hotels with limited room inventory, securing your reservations early is essential. “Booking in advance always means you will have the best options when in the planning stages,” Zeigler says. “Fewer crowds, less heat and less expensive—all wins for a perfect off-the-beaten-path summer experience!”

For travelers looking for a memorable European summer experience, many advisors are steering clients toward Croatia, a destination celebrated for its stunning scenery and remarkable history. “Along the Adriatic coast, you'll find gorgeous water, charming old towns and a slower Mediterranean feel while still being very approachable for American travelers,” says Beci Mahnken, CEO and travel expert at MEI-Travel in Sammamish, Washington.

One of the standout coastal gems is Dubrovnik, famous for its massive medieval walls, smooth limestone streets and dramatic waterfront views. Meanwhile, the city of Split flawlessly blends ancient Roman history with a lively harbor atmosphere centered right inside the footprint of Diocletian’s Palace. From there, travelers love island hopping to spots like Hvar and Korčula to enjoy pristine beaches, sailing and relaxed coastal villages. “One of the things that makes Croatia stand out is how easily travelers can combine history, nature, boating, dining and beach time all within the same trip,” Mahnken adds.

Mahnken notes that Dubrovnik is one of those destinations that almost doesn’t feel real when you see it in person. "Many travelers immediately recognize it from Game of Thrones, where it famously served as the backdrop for King’s Landing," she shares. "But beyond the television connection, the historic stone streets, medieval city walls and stunning Adriatic views make it unforgettable.”

Because Croatia continues to see incredibly strong demand, booking early has become essential for a summer itinerary. “The biggest advantage is access to better pricing and significantly better availability on hotels, flights and experiences before options become limited," Mahnken explains. "Travelers who wait too long often end up paying more while also compromising on location, room category or even travel dates.”

Ultimately, the payoff is worth the planning. Mahnken shares that her clients are routinely surprised by just how breathtaking the country is in person. “Photos really do not fully capture the coastline and historic towns. Clients love that it still feels a bit more undiscovered compared to some of Europe’s more traditional summer destinations, while still offering excellent hotels, great dining and a very comfortable travel experience overall.”

1978 Soft Rock Classic, Written at the Last Minute, Became a Surprise Hit for Unexpected Musical Duo

Sat, 05/23/2026 - 5:03am

In 1978, Dan Fogelberg and Tim Weisberg had a surprise hit with “The Power of Gold.”  The song, which appeared on the duo’s debut album, Twin Sons of Different Mothers, peaked at No. 24 on the Billboard Hot 100 on Dec. 9, 1978. The hit song was a last-minute addition to the album.

Fogelberg looked back on his collaboration with the jazz flutist in an interview with Performing Songwriter. “That was one of the few things that I’ve written specifically for radio that worked,” he said of “The Power of Gold.”

"We had this whole thing of all this instrumental bossa nova and other stuff—a pretty eclectic mix of music—and we had this big, huge grandiose symphonic piece that I had written and actually tried to record,” Fogelberg shared. “And I went home thinking that that wasn’t what we needed to end that album with. We needed something that rocked. And we had already done most of the album. So I remember just going home and banging this thing out in a day or two and calling Tim and saying, 'Let’s cut this other track.' And we did it, threw it on there, and the next thing you know, it was on the radio.”

Fogelberg was ready for a change

Before teaming up with Weisberg, Fogelberg was riding on the success of his super mellow third album Nether Lands, which featured Weisberg playing flute on the track “Give Me Some Time.” According to American Songwriter, Fogelberg once said, “When I made Nether Lands, I felt that I had finally made a grown-up record. That I wasn’t a kid anymore, and that I was finding my own voice as a writer.”

As a follow-up to Nether Lands, Fogelberg contacted Weisberg for a collaboration focused on making beautiful music without a focus on commercial hits. While much of the album was instrumental, Fogelberg included the quickly written “The Power of Gold” add-on after encountering problems with his original closing musical number.

In a chat posted on his official website, Fogelberg explained that “The Power of Gold" was tied to the theme of the album. “Actually, the song was a response to the growing materialism in my own life, and that of many of my successful colleagues - I won't mention any names,” he said.

A follow-up didn't fare as well

While the duo’s similar looks, with their long hair and beards, spawned the Twin Sons idea, things changed 17 years later. Fogelberg and Weisberg reunited in 1995 for a second album, titled No Resemblance Whatsoever. This time, the twins posed with short hair and clean-shaven faces and looked nothing alike.

In an interview with  Vinyl Confessions 10 years after Fogelberg’s 2007 death, Weisberg noted that the follow-up didn’t find the success of Twin Sons. “The record company gave up on it after the first three weeks,” Weisberg said. “That part was very disappointing for the both of us. But musically, it’s a diamond in the rough that a lot of Dan’s fans never heard about, and mine too.”
