Meet Lamine Yamal, the Teen Soccer Star With a $100 Million Contract: Parents, Net Worth and Dating History Explained

Sun, 05/24/2026 - 6:13am

Lamine Yamal's braces and haircut make him look like the average 18-year-old, but the Barcelona soccer superstar is far from average—he's extraordinary. Instead of celebrating his high school graduation, the Spanish-Moroccan teen is currently gearing up for the 2026 World Cup, where he'll lead Spain's national team—the reigning European champions—into the tournament.

And one year ago—on May 27, 2025—Yamal wasn't in a classroom taking his SATs: Instead, the right winger was signing a six-year contract with FC Barcelona worth over $100 million. The best part? Because the Barcelona (Mataró specifically) teen was only 17, he could only sign a partial contract—and even delayed the official photo shoot because his grandmother couldn't make it that day.

But despite the nine figure contract—which includes a $1 billion release clause—the 6-foot-1 phenom remains as humble as ever. On May 19, 2026, after learning his FC Barcelona teammate Fermín López would miss the 2026 World Cup due to a foot fracture, Yamal posted a tribute on his Instagram story. It was a simple eight-word message that perfectly captures his spirit: "We will do it for you, my warrior."

Read on to learn more about Lamine Yamal—including his family life, dating history and the origin of his signature "304" hand signal.

How Old Is Lamaine Yamal?

Lamine Yamal is 18 years old. He was born on July 13, 2007, in Esplugues de Llobregat, a town in the Barcelona metropolitan area of Catalonia, Spain. Yamal's zodiac sign is Cancer, and he'll celebrate his 19th birthday on July 13, 2026—right in the middle of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which runs from June 11 through July 19, 2026.

What Soccer Records Has Lamine Yamal Broken?

Yamal has broken just about every "youngest ever" record in soccer. He became the youngest player to ever play for FC Barcelona's first team (at 15 years, 9 months and 16 days old), the youngest goal scorer in Spanish national team history (16 years, 57 days) and the youngest goalscorer in the history of the UEFA European Championship. And that was all before he celebrated his 17th birthday!

After turning 17, he also became the youngest player ever nominated for the Ballon d'Or—the most prestigious individual award in soccer—and was the runner-up in 2025. He also won the Kopa Trophy for best young player in both 2024 and 2025.

Who Are Lamine Yamal's Parents?

Lamine Yamal's father is Mounir Nasraoui—originally from Larache, Morocco—who works as a building painter. His mother is Sheila Ebana—originally from Bata, Equatorial Guinea—who works as a waitress. The two met in Spain and welcomed Lamine—their only shared child—on July 13, 2007. The FC Barcelona phenom was raised in the Barcelona-area towns of Mataró and Granollers.

Although Mounir and Sheila separated when Lamine was just 3 years old, both remained an active presence throughout his life. He lived with his mom in Granollers during the week and stayed with his dad in Mataró on weekends. Now, he has two younger half-siblings: His mom gave birth to brother Keyne (born in 2022) while his dad welcomed daughter Baraa.

During a 2025 podcast appearance, Lamine opened up about his family's incredible journey, telling Spanish journalist José Ramón de la Morena that his paternal grandmother, Fatima, made the harrowing trip from Morocco to Spain entirely on her own. "My grandmother sneaked onto the bus from Morocco and managed to get to Mataró," he said. "She started working three shifts so my father could come because he stayed in Morocco. When my grandmother made some money, she paid a woman to bring my father and his sister, who came when they were 3 years old."

Lamine famously postponed the official photo shoot for his FC Barcelona contract signing so Fatima could be by his side. "Without my grandmother, I couldn't have planned such a special event for me," he told Mundo Deportivo. "The event was delayed because of her, as she was in Morocco. I'm so grateful for everything she's done for me; I can never repay her."

What Does Lamine Yamal's '304' Hand Signal Mean?

If you've watched Lamine Yamal play, you've probably noticed his signature post-goal celebration: He forms the number "304" with his hands, holding up three fingers on one hand and four on the other—with his thumb and index finger meeting in the middle to make a zero. The meaning behind it is one of the sweetest parts of his story.

You see, 304 is the last three digits of the postal code for Rocafonda—the working-class, multicultural neighborhood in Mataró where Lamine grew up. (The full postal code is 08304.) Every time he scores, he's paying tribute to the community that shaped him.

But the tribute doesn't stop there. Lamine also wears the number on his custom Adidas F50 cleats—which feature "34" (304 minus the zero) alongside the flags of Morocco (his father's homeland) and Equatorial Guinea (his mother's). His Instagram handle even ends in "304." And in October 2025, he officially made the celebration his own: He registered "304," "LY304" and "304 FC" as trademarks with the European Union Intellectual Property Office.

And true to his roots, Lamine recently announced plans to donate 100 soccer balls to Rocafonda—ensuring the next generation of kids has access to the same dream that shaped his.

How Much Does Lamine Yamal Make? Inside His Net Worth, Salary and Endorsements

Lamine Yamal's net worth is estimated to be between $5 million and $15 million—and that number is climbing fast. While that's certainly a wide range, the reason is simple: His brand value is growing so quickly that financial analysts can barely keep up. In October 2025, he came in at No. 10 on Forbes' list of the world’s highest-paid soccer players.

The 18-year-old's income comes from three major streams:

1. His FC Barcelona Salary

On May 27, 2025, Yamal signed a six-year contract extension with FC Barcelona, which saw his salary jump from approximately $1.8 million per year to an estimated $17–18 million per year—and potentially up to $45 million with performance bonuses—according to The Athletic. The tax rate in Spain is about 50%, meaning his take-home is about half of that—and that doesn't include fees from agents and lawyers.

2. His Endorsement Deals

In February 2024, Lamine signed a 10-year partnership with Adidas reportedly worth $34 million—the most lucrative endorsement deal ever signed by a player under 18 at the time. He became the first player after Lionel Messi to endorse the exclusive Spark Gen10s boot line. (Adidas would later give Lamine his own custom F50 LY304 cleats—a nod to his Rocafonda postal code—in December 2024, followed by his second signature boot, the F50 "Heartbreaker," in March 2026—inspired by Barcelona's annual Dia de Sant Jordi rose festival.) Beyond Adidas, Lamine has also signed major deals with:

  • Beats by Dre
  • OPPO
  • Powerade
  • Konami
  • UNICEF

3. His Social Media Empire

With more than 80 million combined followers on TikTok and Instagram, Lamine is one of the most-followed teenagers on the planet—and that audience translates directly into commercial value for brands eager to reach Gen Z. For context,Sabrina Carpenter has 33 million followers on Instagram, while he and Ariana Grande share around the same TikTok following.

And while Lamine's exact sponsored-post rate isn't public, soccer stars in his orbit are pulling in serious money: Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly earns up to $3.23 million per sponsored Instagram post and Messi rakes in $2.6 million, per CNN.

Who Is Lamine Yamal's Girlfriend? See His Dating History and Breakup With Nicki Nicole

As of May 2026, Lamine Yamal is single—but his love life has kept fans (and tabloids) plenty entertained. His first publicly known relationship was with Alex Padilla—a content creator and student from Barcelona. The two were photographed together in Berlin's Olympiastadion after Spain defeated England in the Euro 2024 finals. The couple were later spotted on vacation in Milan and Greece and shared photos from their travels via Instagram. However, by the end of that summer, the couple was no longer seen in public and unfollowed each other on socials. Neither party ever issued a formal statement about the split.

Inside Lamine Yamal and Nicki Nicole's Romance

But the FC Barcelona star's next relationship—with Argentinian rapper and singer-songwriter Nicki Nicole—would capture the world's attention. The duo first sparked dating rumors in July 2025, when the Grammy-nominated singer flew to Spain to join Yamal at his 18th birthday festivities. The age difference raised some eyebrows—she's 25, he'd just turned 18—but the relationship became public in late August 2025, when both posted photos together on Instagram.

Over the next few months, they were spotted on romantic dates in places like Croatia and Monaco. Nicki also became a familiar face at FC Barcelona's home stadium, cheering Lamine on from the stands. On Oct. 21, 2025, she was spotted in the crowd during Barcelona's Champions League match against Olympiakos—the same match where Lamine scored a goal and blew her a kiss from the field!

Why Did Lamine Yamal and Nicki Nicole Break Up?

But just 10 days later, news broke that Lamine and Nicki had ended their whirlwind romance. On Nov. 1, 2025, the FC Barcelona star confirmed the split during an appearance on the show D Corazón. "We are not together anymore," said the soccer superstar. "It was not for any infidelity. We have simply parted ways, and that's it. Everything that is coming out has nothing to do with us. I've not been unfaithful or gotten with someone else."

Nicki also confirmed his statement, telling one reporter that there was no cheating on either side. It sounds to us like their crazy popstar and pro athlete schedules simply couldn't sync up.

Who Is Lamine Yamal Dating Now?

Since splitting with Nicki, Lamine has been linked to a few names in the rumor mill—including British model and influencer Lily Rowland, who was reportedly spotted at multiple Barcelona matches in early 2026. But neither party has confirmed anything publicly, so we'll keep that on the rumor side for now.

Then, in May 2026, rumors ignited after Olivia Rodrigo was spotted chatting with Lamine at Barcelona's El Clásico match against Real Madrid. The reality is more straightforward: Olivia's logo was featured on Barcelona's custom jersey as part of a Spotify promo (her new album is out June 12) and the two simply posed for a sweet photo together.

For now, it seems like Lamine is keeping his personal life private and focusing on the 2026 World Cup.

Lamine Yamal at the 2026 World Cup

After lighting up Euro 2024, Yamal is now preparing for the biggest stage in soccer: the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The tournament will be hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026. Spain enters the tournament as the reigning European champions—and one of the favorites to lift their second-ever World Cup trophy. (They last won in 2010.)

Spain has been drawn into Group H. Here is the team's schedule for the group stage matches:

  • Spain vs. Cape Verde — June 15, 2026, 12 p.m. ET on FOX | Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta
  • Spain vs. Saudi Arabia — June 21, 2026, 12 p.m. ET on FOX | Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta
  • Spain vs. Uruguay — June 26, 2026, 8 p.m. ET on FOX | Estadio Akron, Guadalajara, Mexico

However, on April 22, 2026, Yamal tore his left hamstring while scoring a penalty for Barcelona against Celta Vigo. Spain head coach Luis de la Fuente—who once called Lamine "touched by God"—is expected to ease him back into action carefully. In the meantime, the superstar's sights remain set on the ultimate prize: In 2024, Yamal said, "I want to win the World Cup with Spain."

Why Summer 2026 Is the Best Time to Score a Value-Packed Austin Escape

Sun, 05/24/2026 - 6:10am

There's never been a better time to experience Austin firsthand. Long known affectionately as the "Live Music Capital of the World," the city has hit a rare sweet spot where culture, explosive infrastructure growth and distinct Southern hospitality all intersect. As we head into summer 2026, the global spotlight on Austin is burning brighter than ever. The city's serving as a massive cultural anchor and central fan hub for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, perfectly positioned between the major tournament matches kicking off in Dallas, Houston and Monterrey, Mexico. Combined with the high-octane anticipation surrounding the Formula 1 United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) later this fall, the city is experiencing a thrilling rush of sports and entertainment tourism.

Yet, despite its status as a global powerhouse, summer remains one of the absolute best times to plan an Austin escape. The secret is that the season offers a slower pace, lower crowds and incredible value for travelers looking to experience Texas on a budget. To get a true sense of how to navigate the city like a seasoned local, we connected with two boots-on-the-ground insiders: Tessie Watson, an Austin native and owner of Longhorn Fashions and Skeeter Miller, the multi-hyphenate owner and president of County Line Inc. (the legendary County Line BBQ).

"Austin is always a special place, but summer is actually a wonderful time to visit because it's a bit less busy and much easier on your wallet," Miller notes. Watson agrees, adding that the rising temperatures are simply a cue to vacation like a Texan. "Hotels often roll out great seasonal deals, and the heat becomes an enjoyable part of the experience rather than a drawback," Watson shares. "Locals lean right into it: cooling off at Barton Springs Pool or Deep Eddy Pool, paddleboarding on Lady Bird Lake or renting a boat on Lake Austin."

From the highly anticipated opening of COTALAND out at the track to a wave of luxury hotel debuts, here is how to maximize a summer trip to the cultural epicenter of the modern South.

Austin’s hospitality infrastructure is undergoing a massive evolution in 2026, making the hotel landscape more diverse than ever. This summer sees the highly anticipated opening of the eco-luxury 1 Hotel Austin, anchoring the state's tallest tower at the foot of Lady Bird Lake, alongside the upscale Hotel Trinity, an Autograph Collection boutique oasis arriving downtown. Furthermore, the city's most historic landmark, The Driskill Hotel, is officially wrapping up a multi-million-dollar structural renovation this season.

When recommending accommodations to out-of-town friends, both experts emphasize picking a hotel that anchors your specific vacation style. For those prioritizing a lively evening environment, the choice is clear. "If you are looking to enjoy the nightlife, the Hotel Van Zandtoffers great accommodations and puts you right on Rainey Street," Miller says. For design enthusiasts, Watson highly recommends the Austin Proper Hotel. "It features standout design, a great downtown location, and a rooftop scene that perfectly captures the city’s vibe," she notes. The Proper also features La Piscina, an elevated culinary hotspot.

If waterfront scenery is your goal, the banks of Lady Bird Lake host some of the finest properties in the city center. "The Line is a great choice and features the P6rooftop restaurant, which offers awesome views of the lake and downtown," Miller suggests. "The Four Seasonsis also located right on Lady Bird Lake, offering an amazing weekend brunch along with a hidden speakeasy tucked inside." For travelers seeking a true wellness reset away from the downtown pavement, both insiders point toward the rolling hills. The Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa, located just outside of town, is well worth the short drive for its golf courses, spa facilities and sweeping Hill Country views, while the Renaissance Hotelin the Arboretum offers massive, resort-style outdoor spaces.

Where to Eat and Drink: Fine Dining to Classic Tex-Mex

Richard Casteel

The city's food scene has evolved into a thrilling new era, where innovative culinary concepts seamlessly share the spotlight with legendary Texas mainstays. For a refined evening out, the upscale scene is thriving. "If we are talking fine dining, I'd steer folks toward J. Carver’s or The Kimberly," Miller recommends. "Both of these spots have excellent craft cocktails and stellar wine lists. If you go to J. Carver’s, you absolutely have to try the Burgundy Vineyard Escargot." Watson also points travelers toward innovative, farm-to-table options like Odd Duck (pictured above) or ATX Cocina for elevated Mexican cuisine with a modern edge. "The Butcher’s Daughter brings its plant-forward concept to town and Only the Wild Ones offers a unique 'wine and vinyl' vibe," Watson adds, noting that "new projects from chefs like Johnny Curiel continue to push Austin toward national culinary prominence."

Of course, no true trip to the Lone Star State is complete without experiencing the legendary local pitmasters. "Austin’s food scene ranges from iconic to inventive," Watson notes, pointing visitors straight toward a neighborhood favorite. "For classic, no-fuss Texas BBQ done right, Terry Black’s Barbecue is a must-try."

If you're looking for a relaxed, multi-generational dinner after hitting the smokehouses, classic Tex-Mex is non-negotiable. "I always point people to Matt’s El Rancho," Miller shares. "It's a great spot for large families—just be sure to order The Bob queso dip and wash it down with a classic Mexican Martini." For a lively, upscale aesthetic, Watson also points to La Condesa, a vibrant downtown favorite or Paperboy for one of the absolute best brunch menus in the city.

Activities and Nightlife: Live Jazz, Honky-Tonks and High-Octane Sports

Ismael Quintanilla III

Austin’s entertainment scene is a high-energy mix of stadium sports and intimate historic music rooms. For sports fans, the local spirit is entirely infectious. "A Texas Longhorns game is always an unforgettable experience—the band, the stadium atmosphere and the massive drone show are hard to top," Watson shares. She also notes that catching an Austin FC soccer match at Q2 Stadium offers one of the absolute best fan experiences in the entire country. For an alternative adrenaline rush, Miller recommends tracking the PBR (Pro Bull Riding) Circuitevents when they roll through the region.

When the sun sets, the city’s nightlife shifts toward its legendary musical roots. To experience the authentic, historic soul of the city, skip the standard tourist traps and look for the classic neon signs. "If you want to experience iconic, true Austin live music clubs, I always tell people to visit the Elephant Room for a great subterranean vibe, and the historic Continental Club," Miller says. For excellent late-night jazz and entertainment, he also suggests checking the calendar at the ACL Live at The Moody Theater or heading over to Nica's on 4th. To round out a classic Texas evening, Watson suggests heading out to Sagebrushor C-Boy’s Heart & Soul for cold drinks and live music.

Outdoors: Sunsets, Scenic Cruises and Hill Country Views

Ryan Kyte

To truly understand Austin, you have to spend time on its waterways and hiking trails. For spectacular panoramic views of the entire downtown skyline and the winding river below, Watson recommends making the short trek up to Mount Bonnell, or scheduling a day hike along the scenic River Place Nature Trailfollowed by a relaxed, waterfront lunch at Ski Shores Cafe. For an urban green space experience, a stroll through the newly developed Waterloo Greenwayoffers a beautiful look at the city's commitment to sustainable public parks.

Ultimately, the perfect cap to a summer day involves combining great food with a classic Texas sunset. "There is plenty of natural beauty to enjoy around the city," Miller shares. "You can watch a beautiful sunset at The County Line on the Hillwhile enjoying some legendary Texas BBQ." For the ultimate VIP water experience, Miller suggests booking a private charter to take the cooking to the water. "Rent a boat with a captain from Austin Rental Boats," he suggests. "You can pull right up to our spot at County Line on the Lake to pick up margaritas and BBQ to go, and enjoy a sunset cruise right by the iconic Pennybacker Bridge."

Can't-Miss Cafes, Shops and Stops

The best way to kick off a summer morning in town is by tracking down a premium caffeine fix and a scenic view. For an unforgettable a.m. atmosphere, one specific lakeside destination stands out. "You've got to make a stop at Mozart’son Lake Austin," Miller says. "The atmosphere is incredibly unique, and it’s an absolute must for starting your morning off right." For travelers exploring the urban core, Watson recommends stopping by Jo’s Coffee, the home of the city's famous "I love you so much" street mural on South Congress, or hunting down Desnudo Coffee and Idlewild Coffee, both celebrated for top-tier service and exceptional roasts.

When it comes to browsing and retail therapy, the consensus points directly to a single, historic geographic corridor. "South Congress Avenue is still my ultimate go-to," Watson says. "It seamlessly blends local boutiques, vintage shops, food trucks and live music into one highly walkable area where you can easily spend an entire afternoon." While strolling the boulevard, Miller suggests tracking down a legendary local bootmaker. "Take a stroll down South Congress and stop by Heritage Boots," Miller says. "Make sure to tell Kimber that Skeeter sent you!" To ensure you look the part for a night out on the town, Watson recommends swinging by Longhorn Fashionsto pick up a custom-shaped hat or a fresh game-day outfit.

1972 One-Hit Wonder Became a Folk Rock Classic, But Singer Was Never Credited

Sun, 05/24/2026 - 6:04am

In the summer of 1972, the Godspell song ”Dayby Day” became a radio hit. The track from Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak's off-Broadway musical’s cast album spent 14 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at No. 13 on July 29, 1972.

In an unusual move, lead vocalist Robin Lamont—who appeared as Robin in the religious-themed musical’s off-Broadway runs, the movie adaptation, and the Broadway show— was not credited for her work on the record. Instead, the single released by Bell Records was credited to the “band” Godspell.

“I was just starting to film the movie when ‘Day by Day’ made the top 13 in the Billboard Hot 100, and I used to listen to it on the radio when I'd wake up, because it was always on,” Lamont, now 75, told Theatermania in an interview. “I think, perhaps, that as a young actress, it wasn't the best thing for me in terms of training. I kind of thought that a lot of stuff would come easily after that, and it didn't.”

Robin Lamont explained why she wasn't listed on the song's credits

Speaking with Steve Harris of Starlight Broadcasting, Lamont admitted she felt “lucky” that Schwartz selected her to perform lead on “Day by Day,” which became “the most famous song of all” from Godspell. She then addressed the fact that she wasn’t credited on the single version of the song.

“While I was filming the movie in New York City, they did release the song directly from the cast album,” she shared. “I don't think that had ever been done before. … I don't think they wanted to highlight individuals with single records, and they really, you know, they didn't have any protocols for that, because when it was released, it was brand new.”

“I never received a penny of royalties for the vocal,” Lamont added.

RELATED: 1970 No. 1 Hit Ranked One of the ‘Top Love Songs of All Time’ Was by a Made-for-TV Band

The actress and singer shared further details in an interview with Masterworks Broadway, where she admitted she was “a little put off” that the hit record didn’t include her name.

“But from what I recall, that was the first time a song had been lifted from a cast album and released as a single, so there really was no precedent,” Lamont said. “Steve Schwartz wanted to make it up to me and had Bell Records make me a gold record, which is hanging right near my desk.”

Despite the single snub, more than 50 years after making the classic recording, Lamont said she still gets plenty of acknowledgment from fans who still love “Day by Day.”

“I am contacted on social media by strangers who want to express how meaningful the show and that particular song has been for them,” she told Masterworks. “I’m grateful that the musical has made a unique and powerful difference in people’s lives. How many actors get to say that?”

This Popular Bank Was Officially Ranked the Safest To Use in the U.S.

Sun, 05/24/2026 - 6:00am

There’s almost no one alive today who can remember the Great Depression and when banks failed, wiping out $7 billion in savings of ordinary Americans. Distrust in banks ran deep in the fabric of America for a long time after that, but today’s financial institutions are safer as long as they have certain guarantees.

The Safest Bank In America

A recent piece published by Yahoo! Finance identifies the safest banks in America based on metrics defined by the site. The methodology is extensive, analyzing hundreds of data points to provideˇ a well-rounded evaluation of a variety of financial institutions. Obvious things like being Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insured appear on the list, but modern concerns like a history of data breaches were also included.

According to all of these criteria, Chase Bank ranks top in the U.S. as far as safety. While no bank is 100% foolproof, Chase scores so high that every day Americans can feel confident keeping their money within its coffers.

When Banking Was A Gamble

Before 1933, banking in the United States lacked safeguards and guarantees. If the bank failed, someone could lose everything. That’s exactly what happened during the Great Depression.

It’s a difficult concept to grasp today because of the FDIC. We see the FDIC seal prominently displayed in accredited banks, but many Americans now don’t realize how necessary that safety net is to keeping their money safe. As long as your account holds less than $250,000, you can sleep soundly knowing your entire amount will be covered by the federal government if the bank fails.

While it’s rare for a bank to fail, it still happens. According to the FDIC website, 32 banks have failed and closed in the last decade. Our current financial crisis isn’t as dire as it was 100 years ago, but that’s due largely to safeguards.

Cybersecurity Is A Big Deal

One of the biggest threats to modern banking is cyber criminals. Banks hold an enormous amount of our data. Not only are your financial details contained within its digital walls, but your personal information is as well. We’ve become desensitized to the severity of data breaches because they occur so often, but your bank must have a robust cybersecurity framework in place.

While modern banking isn’t as volatile as it was a century ago, we still need to be diligent about where we keep our money. According to Yahoo! Finance, the number one place is with Chase.

The Song That Takes You Back, Based on Your Birth Month

Sun, 05/24/2026 - 5:12am

Listening to music is the closest we have to time travel. Whether you’re playing an old record or tuning into a radio station, there will be a song that takes you back to another time. This particular song means something to you because it piques your nostalgia. You might have memories attached to this song, like sharing a first dance at prom or hearing this song live while attending your first concert. This song could have also gotten you through heartbreaks, major life transitions, and other poignant times.

Of all the melodies that could play, there’s a song that takes you back, based on your birth month. The energy of your birth month is piqued because your birth month’s cosmic signature matches the song’s lyrics and melody. A special bond is forged between your birth month and this song. Read on to find your nostalgic song, according to your birth month.

Each Birth Month's Throwback Song

Check for the month you were born for pro insights.

January: “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” by Tears For Fears

“Nothing ever lasts forever/Everybody wants to rule the world”

If anyone is conscious of how much time they have, it’s someone born in January. People born in this month work with the Saturnian signs, Capricorn and Aquarius. They’re responsible individuals who are mindful of their time and energy, so “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” will speak to them on a personal level. January might feel a little sad listening to this nostalgic song, looking back on their lives while thinking about the decisions ahead.

February: “Africa” by Toto

“I bless the rains down in Africa”

February needs a feel-good song that brings out their quirky Aquarius features while playing into their dreamy Piscean energy. “Africa” by Toto has everything February looks for in a nostalgic song—poetic lyrics, a jaunty tune, and a catchy chorus. Even though this song is quite popular throughout the decades, people born in February cannot help but jam out. They don’t care if everyone else knows “Africa”, but nobody else understands this song’s whimsy like February does.

March: “Purple Rain” by Prince And The Revolution“I only want to see you bathing/In the purple rain”

Those born in March look for powerful, evocative ballads. March babies are a mix of sensitive Pisces and fierce Aries, so they’re ultimately drawn to songs that tug on their heartstrings. “Purple Rain” will transport March to another time, especially if March is still pining over a lost love. Prince’s rawness and vulnerability might bring a tear to March’s eye. As the song swells with emotion, March will be overcome remembering their greatest heartbreaks. Although, but “Purple Rain” also provides the emotional release March looks for.

April: “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor“It's the eye of the tiger/It’s the thrill of the fight”

April’s rising up, straight to the top. All April-born are tough as nails thanks to embodying Aries’ fierceness and Taurus’ determination. They naturally gravitate toward classic rock, so it’s no wonder that “Eye of the Tiger” immediately stands out to them. The riveting guitar riff and empowering lyrics will get April up and moving. April might fondly recall how they overcame obstacles or won a hard-earned fight, as “Eye of the Tiger” brings them back to going the distance.

May: “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’” by Michael Jackson

“I said you wanna be startin' somethin'/You got to be startin' somethin'”

Listening to music is May’s way of escaping reality just for a moment. They have an ear for good music that evokes feelings and memories, thanks to being co-ruled by Taurus and Gemini. Even if they have many favorites, Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Something” always takes them back. Jackson’s high-energy and rhythmic lyrics transport May to another time. Plus, this feel-good song will help May feel rejuvenated and energized, which is exactly what they need when they’re feeling nostalgic.

NEXT: Which Beatles Song Matches You, Based on Birth Date

June: “Livin’ On A Prayer” by Bon Jovi

“Whoa, we're half way there/Whoa oh, livin' on a prayer”

June lives for the fight when that’s all they’ve got. Individuals born during this month embrace Gemini’s and Cancer’s love for feel-good stories that resonate with their own personal trials and triumphs. “Livin’ On A Prayer” will always bring them back to the trials and triumphs they’ve experienced throughout their lives. June can even play this song when they need a boost of strength to get through current obstacles. Either way, “Livin’ On A Prayer” will remind June to hold onto what they’ve got.

July: “Summer of ‘69” by Bryan Adams

“Those were the best days of my life”

July birthdays love listening to music when they feel nostalgic. Their sentimental Cancerian heart and expressive Leo-like passion are attuned with the vibration of music. Instead of gravitating toward a love ballad or sad song, July should play “Summer of ‘69” when they’re in the mood to reminisce. Even if they didn’t live through the summer of ‘69, they will still think about all the summertime fun they had as children and adolescents. Listening to this song might even inspire July to plan something legendary this summer.

August: “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake

“And here I go again on my own/Going down the only road I've ever known”

People born in August ain’t wasting any more time, thanks to being a mix of passionate Leo and productive Virgo. These individuals share hardworking, determined spirits, as reflected in “Here I Go Again” by Whitesnake. Although this rock song starts slow, it packs quite a punch. The emotion behind Whitesnake’s hopeful lyrics will bring August back to all the times they walked the lonely street of dreams. August will feel validated listening to this jam, since “Here I Go Again” represents August’s strength to keep going despite all odds.

September: “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” by Whitney Houston

“Yeah, I wanna dance with somebody/With somebody who loves me”

Romantics share September birthdays, since this month is home to caring Virgo and loving Libra. People born during this month often reminisce about their greatest loves and heartbreaks, so they’ll feel called to “I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)” by Whitney Houston. Maybe September heard this song in a hit romcom movie, or they could have played this on repeat before going out on a first date. Regardless of how they know this tune, September will always be especially fond of this heartwarming pop song.

October: “Love Is a Battlefield" by Pat Benatar

“We are young/Heartache to heartache/We stand”

No promises, no demands for those born in October. People with this birth month want the romance of Libra and the passion of Scorpio mirrored in their music, so they’ll be drawn to “Love Is a Battlefield”. Listening to this song will take October right back to all the times they fought for love. They might remember how hard they fought to win someone over or to get through a heartbreak. Either way, October will be completely immersed in their memories as they listen to Pat Benatar’s hit song.

November: “Where’s the Party” by Madonna

“Where's the party (where's the party), I want to free my soul”

Individuals born in November just want to have fun. After being driven by their tenacious Scorpio, November’s exuberant Sagittarius side is dying to come out. Their hardworking attitude and desire to cut loose is perfectly represented by “Where’s the Party” by Madonna. November can relive their party days any time they listen to Madonna. Tuning into this hit pop song will remind November to slow down, make the good times last, and let their hair hang down.

December: “Father Figure” by George Michael

“I will be your father figure (oh, baby)”

All December wanted was a seductive melody to complement their confident Sagittarius spirit and authoritative Capricorn mentality. People born in this month are powerful individuals, so they’ll feel like they’re in their prime while listening to “Father Figure”. George Michael’s slow-moving song will completely hypnotize December and bring them back to just how all they ever wanted was to be something special, something sacred. December ought to play this song when they’re feeling nostalgic and sensual.

Nobel Prize-Winning Songwriter Behind Some of Rock’s Biggest Classics Turns 85

Sun, 05/24/2026 - 5:11am

In 1941, a future Nobel Prize-winning songwriter who would help reshape rock and folk music was born in Minnesota on May 24.

Eighty-five years later, Bob Dylan remains one of the most influential figures in modern music history, transforming popular music with poetic lyrics, restless reinvention and songs that still resonate generations later.

Related: 1965 Hit Ranked Among ‘Greatest Songs of All Time’ Became a Rock Breakthrough

Dylan emerged as one of the defining voices of the 1960s after moving to New York City in 1961 and immersing himself in the city’s folk music scene. Early classics like “Blowin’ in the Wind,” “The Times They Are a-Changin’” and “Mr. Tambourine Man” quickly turned him into the voice of a changing generation.

In 1965, Dylan shocked portions of the folk world when he embraced electrically amplified rock music, releasing landmark albums like Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde. His six-minute anthem “Like a Rolling Stone” became one of the most celebrated songs in rock history and helped redefine what popular music could achieve artistically.

Related: 1965 Bob Dylan ‘Diss Track’ Named ‘One of the Best Songs Ever Written’

Though Dylan never scored a No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100 as a recording artist, his songwriting became enormously influential across the music world. Artists including Jimi Hendrix, Adele, Johnny Cash, George Harrison, Guns N' Roses and Peter, Paul and Mary all found success recording his songs.

Over the decades, Dylan continued evolving creatively, exploring folk, rock, country, blues and gospel music while releasing more than 40 studio albums. His accomplishments include 10 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, the Presidential Medal of Freedom and the 2016 Nobel Prize in Literature, awarded “for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition.”

Dylan has also been inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, while five of his songs were named among the Rock Hall’s “500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll.”

Even after nearly seven decades in music, Dylan’s influence continues to ripple through popular culture. His life and career recently inspired the Oscar-nominated film A Complete Unknown, introducing his story and music to a new generation of fans.

Though his voice, style and persona have constantly evolved over the years, Dylan’s legacy remains rooted in the same thing that first made him famous: songs that challenged conventions, captured cultural change and reshaped what popular music could say.

15 Free Things You Can Do at Walt Disney World Without Entering the Parks

Sun, 05/24/2026 - 5:10am

I adore Walt Disney World Resort’s Orlando theme parks.

But one of the things I love most about the parks is the unique Disney universe they’re part of: the beautifully themed resort hotels, waterfront promenades, thrilling transportation options and walkable dining and entertainment districts. And best of all, much of it is completely free.

For the past several years, my family has made a point of vacationing at Disney and savoring all the free and low-cost amenities outside of the parks. And there are plenty: from scenic riverboat rides to outdoor movie nights and spotting giraffes and zebras, there’s a lot of Disney magic that can be experienced on non-park days.

Here are some of my favorite free things to do at Disney World—no park ticket required.

1. Ride the Disney Skyliner The Disney Skyliner is a fun, efficient and free way to travel around Walt Disney World.

Photo by Harrison Cooney, courtesy of Disney

A modern tribute to the original Disney World Skyway, the Disney Skyliner is a state-of-the-art gondola system that transports guests between Disney's Hollywood Studios, EPCOT and four Disney resort hotels in colorful, character-themed gondolas.

The Skyliner itself is an attraction. Some of my favorite must-dos include soaring over Hourglass Lake, catching aerial views of EPCOT’s France pavilion and stopping at Disney's Riviera Resort to admire the resort’s large-scale mosaic murals depicting scenes from Disney’s Peter Pan and Tangled.

2. Spot Wildlife at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Visitors are welcome at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, where giraffes and zebras can be seen roaming the savanna.

Photo by Harrison Cooney, courtesy of Disney

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge has long been famous for its Savanna View rooms that invite guests to observe free-roaming animals like giraffes and zebras from their balconies, but you don’t have to stay at the resort to see the animals.

Anyone can visit, and some of the best spots to observe animals are from the shaded verandah at the Arusha Savanna Overlook at Jambo House and Pembe Savanna near Sanaa at Kidani Village. For a meal with unforgettable views, book a table at Sanaa; not only is the Indian-style bread service incredible (with five varieties of warm naan), but the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the savanna make the experience unforgettable.

3. Go Fishing at Disney World Resorts With your own gear, fishing is free at Disney's Port Orleans Resort - Riverside.

You can fish for free at Disney World if you bring your own fishing gear. The best spots are the Fishin’ Hole at Disney's Port Orleans Resort–Riverside and the fishing dock behind Meadow Trading Post at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.

If you didn’t bring a rod and reel, don’t worry: both locations also offer inexpensive rentals and bait. And while it may cost a little extra, I highly recommend the guided fishing excursions: one of my family’s best fishing experiences was a pontoon excursion from Fort Wilderness where we caught more largemouth bass than I ever thought possible.

4. Spend an Evening at Disney’s BoardWalk Disney's BoardWalk is a walkable waterfront promenade with boutiques, dining options and free evening entertainment.

Inspired by seaside boardwalks such as Coney Island and Atlantic City, Disney's BoardWalk comes alive at night with a waterfront promenade of shops, restaurants, midway games and free entertainment.

From Thursday through Monday evenings, you can catch street performers entertaining crowds along the boardwalk, completely free of charge. During a recent visit, we saw an a cappella group singing classic hits, a magician performing mind-reading tricks and acrobats jumping on trampolines and balancing high above the crowd.

5. Visit Horses at Tri-Circle-D Ranch Discover elegant horses at the stables at Tri-Circle-D Ranch at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.

At Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, Tri-Circle-D Ranch is home to more than 90 horses, including the majestic horses that can be spotted on Main Street U.S.A. in Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

Anyone can visit, and animal lovers will appreciate the breeds ranging from Clydesdales and Percherons to Arabians and Appaloosas. My kids especially loved learning each horse’s name and seeing the Dragon Calliope: a horse-drawn musical wagon originally purchased by Walt Disney for a Disneyland parade in the 1950s. Pony rides, horseback riding and carriage rides are also available for an additional fee.

6. Resort-Hop on the Disney Monorail Disney's Monorail is a free and fun way to resort-hop to some of Disney World's most iconic resorts.

The Disney Monorail has been transporting guests around Disney World since 1971, and it still feels thrilling today. Because the free transportation system connects directly to several of Disney’s most famous resorts, it’s also one of the easiest ways to plan a family-friendly resort-hopping day.

My favorite stops include the delightfully zany tropical tiki bar Trader Sam's Grog Grotto at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort (kid-friendly until 8 p.m.), afternoon tea at the Garden View Lounge inside Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa and breakfast with Disney characters at Chef Mickey's inside Disney's Contemporary Resort.

7. Watch Fireworks From a Resort Beach Disney's nightly fireworks displays can be seen from many Disney resort hotels, including BoardWalk Inn at Disney's BoardWalk (pictured).

Photo by Bennett Stoops, courtesy of Disney

Watching the nightly fireworks from a Disney resort hotel is one of Disney World’s best-kept secrets.

My two favorite viewing spots are the beaches at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground and Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. For an elevated view, head to the terraces at the new Island Tower at Disney's Polynesian Village and Bungalows. The best part is that the resorts pipe in the synchronized soundtrack from the Magic Kingdom, making the experience feel truly immersive.

8. Sing with Chip 'n' Dale at a Campfire Sing-Along Chip n’ Dale dance with guests at the nightly Chip 'n' Dale's Campfire Sing-A-Long at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground.

Every night at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground, there is one of the most charming (and free!) character events on Disney property: Chip 'n' Dale's Campfire Sing-A-Long, featuring a musical program led by a guitar-playing musician and an extended visit from Chip n’ Dale, who dance and interact with everyone.

The evening includes campfires and marshmallow roasting (you can bring your own materials or purchase S’mores kits there), followed by a Disney movie under the stars.

9. Take a Boat Ride Around Disney World The Sassagoula River Cruise is a scenic boat ride that transports passengers from Disney's Port Orleans Resorts to Disney Springs.

Photo by Olga Thompson, courtesy of Disney

Disney’s complimentary water taxis and ferries are among the most relaxing ways to get around Walt Disney World Resort.

One of the most scenic rides is the trip between Disney's Wilderness Lodge and Disney’s Magic Kingdom; another family favorite is the Sassagoula River Cruise that connects the resort hotels along the river to Disney Springs. From Disney’s Port Orleans Resorts, the leisurely route winds past the Treehouse Villas at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and feels like a cruise through the Louisiana bayou.

10. Play Lawn Games at Disney Resorts A European-style bocce ball court can be found outside Disney's Riviera Resort.

There’s something refreshing about playing lawn games while on vacation—especially when the setting is a world-class Disney resort hotel. Many Disney resort hotels offer complimentary lawn games for guests and visitors alike, from giant chess sets and oversized Connect Four to cornhole and bocce ball.

On breezy summer afternoons, my family’s favorite spots for outdoor games are Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, Disney's Old Key West Resort and Disney's Riviera Resort.

11. Watch Disney’s Electrical Water Pageant The wraparound deck at Narcoossee's at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa is a great viewing spot for Disney's Electrical Water Pageant.

Photo by Kent Phillips, courtesy of Disney

The longest-running nighttime entertainment in Walt Disney World history, Disney’s Electrical Water Pageant has delighted guests since its debut in 1971.

The parade features dramatic music and a procession of huge glowing floats that travel across Seven Seas Lagoon and Bay Lake each evening. My favorite viewing spot is the dock at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa, though the view from the wraparound deck at Narcoossee's is particularly spectacular if you’re dining there.

12. Dance to Free Live Music at Disney Springs Disney Springs offers free nightly concerts on multiple outdoor stages.

Of all the live entertainment options at Disney World, the lineup of free nightly offerings at Disney Springs is robust.

The massive outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment complex hosts outdoor performances each evening across multiple waterfront stages and venues. I’ll never forget watching flamenco guitarist Nicholas Marks get the entire crowd dancing during a high-energy outdoor performance. Another favorite spot at Disney Springs is Raglan Road Irish Pub and Restaurant, where Irish dancers and bands perform nightly.

13. Watch Free Outdoor Movies at Disney Resorts Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge hosts outdoor movies each night with the option to roast marshmallows (pictured).

Photo by Harrison Cooney, courtesy of Disney

Weather permitting, every Disney-owned resort hotel at Disney World hosts free Disney movie screenings under the stars each night. Whether the films are shown beside a pool, on a beach or lawn, they’re a wonderful way to spend an evening after a long day.

Two of my favorite spots for outdoor movies are the lawn outside Disney's BoardWalk Inn and the pool areas at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge. The Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort also hosts free nightly movies on its beach. The movie schedule rotates and is different at every hotel; for schedules, check with each hotel’s front desk or call (407) 939-2273.

14. Visit Disney’s Water Parks for Free on Arrival Day Guests staying at a Disney resort hotel this summer can gain free admission on arrival day to Disney's water parks: Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and Disney's Blizzard Beach (pictured).

This summer, guests staying at a Disney Resorts Collection hotel receive free admission to either Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park or Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park on their check-in day.

A popular offer that debuted in 2025, this year’s deal is valid from May 26 to September 8, 2026, and includes admission for every guest listed on the reservation. It’s a valuable benefit for families and multigenerational groups, and both parks offer something for everyone, with everything from lazy rivers to towering water slides.

15. See Glassblowing Demonstrations at Disney Springs A master glassblower works with glass over an open flame during a free demonstration at Crystal Arts by Arribas Brothers in Disney Springs.

At Crystal Arts by Arribas Brothers in Disney Springs, visitors can watch master glassblowers transform molten glass into intricate sculptures and keepsakes during free daily demonstrations.

On our last visit, we stood mesmerized as an artisan carefully melted, spun and shaped a series of delicate glass roses over an open flame, perfecting each petal by hand. If you purchase an item, you can even request custom engraving or personalization by one of the artisans.

It’s moments like these that my kids still talk about, and a reminder that some of the resort’s most magical memories can happen beyond the parks.

Short-Lived ‘80s Sitcom, Ranked Among ‘Worst TV Spinoffs of All Time,’ Ended 43 Years Ago Today

Sun, 05/24/2026 - 5:05am

On May 24, 1983, Joanie Loves Chachiaired its final episode—after a very short run. The ABCsitcom, a spin-off of the hit series Happy Days, aired from March 23, 1982, to May 24, 1983, on ABC, for just 17 episodes total.

Starring Erin Moran and Scott Baio, the Joanie Loves Chachi spinoff followed the musical pursuits of Happy Days characters Joanie Cunningham and Chachi Arcola in Chicago. Luckily for the actors, Happy Days left the door open for the characters, who slinked back to Milwaukee after their disastrous run in the Windy City.

Rolling Stoneonce ranked Joanie Loves Chachi one of the worst TV spinoffs of all time, right alongside The Brady Brides and Joey.

“Garry Marshall's Happy Days has given the world some of the very best TV spin-offs; it's also given us this, the absolute nadir of taking people from shows you loved and putting them in shows you loathed,” the outlet noted. “The show tried to sell us on Erin Moran and teen heartthrob Scott Baio relocating to Chicago in the mid-Sixties and trying to make it a singer-songwriter duo — a concept that allowed for all the Moran-Baio singing duets you never, ever wanted to hear.  …Joanie may have loved Chachi, but nobody loved this musical disaster.”

Joanie Loves Chachi started off strong. Fueled by the success of Happy Days, the four episodes the spinoff series aired in its abbreviated first season were ratings hits, according to MeTV.

But for its second season, the network moved the show to Thursday nights. Up against the top CBS hit Magnum P.I., Joanie Loves Chachi sunk to No. 70 in the Nielsen ratings before ABC put it out of its misery.

Baio once reflected on the demise of the series, telling the AV Club, “Joanie Loves Chachi doesn’t really count as being my own show, it was such a fiasco. People weren’t all there, and… well, whatever.”

“All the Happy Days people had written the first four episodes, when the show got picked up for series, but then they left to go back to Happy Days, and we were stuck with new writers who didn't know us,” the actor explained. “It just sort of all crumbled and fell apart. In retrospect, if given the choice again, I would not have done that show. ...If I had to do it all over again, I would've waited 'til Happy Days was over until I did anything else.”

In another interview, Baio admitted, “I regret doing Joanie Loves Chachi because, you know, it’s very exciting to have your own show, but if I wouldn’t have done it, I could have done anything I wanted…after [Happy Days].”

Moran, who died in 2017, once admitted she didn’t really want to do Joanie Loves Chachi either. “I liked working with the people. But I didn’t even want to do it,” she said, per The Guardian. “I wanted to stay on Happy Days.”

Joanie and Chachi ultimately got married on the Happy Days series finale in 1984.

Why This Is an Incredibly Exciting Year for Theme Parks (and You Don't Need a Lightning Lane to Enjoy It)

Sun, 05/24/2026 - 4:10am

Memorial Dayweekend officially marks the start of the summer theme park season across the United States, and the collective excitement on the ground is entirely palpable. This year, the landscape is shifting into high gear as massive regional and national properties roll out a wave of highly anticipated expansions. Thrill-seekers are tracking record-breaking coaster debuts, including Tormenta Rampaging Run at Six Flags Over Texas, while immersive dark rides like the highly anticipated Night Flight Expedition at Dollywood are pushing the boundaries of regional storytelling. From the highly anticipated arrivals of Looney Tunes Land at Six Flags Magic Mountain and Universal Kids Resort in Frisco, Texas, to the expansion of year-round immersive spaces like Universal Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas, Netflix House and Mattel Adventure Park, "experiences" have officially become the primary currency of modern family travel.

Showing just how central these attractions have become to the way families spend their vacation days, global attendance is currently on track to reach an unprecedented milestone. According to data tracked by the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), global theme park attendance is projected to reach nearly 1.2 billion visits this year, representing a strong 8% compound annual growth rate.

To break down exactly what's fueling this monumental shift and how regular families can navigate the high-demand summer season, we spoke with IAAPA President and CEO Jakob Wahl. "There is a competitive element between the parks, but it's less about the biggest and the best," Wahl notes. "Yes, there will always be the record-breaking elements, but it's more about innovation and differentiation."

Read on to discover how major parks are changing the way they build rides, why resorts are replacing traditional beach trips and how to maximize your ticket value this summer.

The Multi-Generational Sweet Spot

"One of the big trends in this industry is that you see many parks investing in attractions with big roller coasters, which are able to be experienced by different generations," Wahl notes. "Many park operators and suppliers have invested a lot into building roller coasters that are thrilling, but which at the same time can be experienced by younger kids."

For parents, this design shift solves a massive vacation headache. Historically, families traveling with mixed age groups faced a constant logistical puzzle: one parent waiting at the exit with a toddler while the other took the teenagers onto an aggressive, high-intensity coaster. The new era of ride engineering is explicitly designed to bridge that gap, delivering high-tech thrills that don't isolate younger riders.

Wahl points directly to premier domestic headliners in Orlando as the golden standard for this generation-spanning design philosophy.

"Hagrid's here in Universal Studios Orlando is a coaster which is very thrilling for somebody like me who has done hundreds of coasters, but at the same time my five-year-old is super happy on it as well," he shares. "Mission Guardians of the Galaxy at Disney is the same idea. You have something which really appeals to the broadest range of guests because ultimately that is our target audience—because we want to offer something for everybody."

Ditching the "One-Day Trip" for Full-Scale Resort Ease

This emphasis on family inclusivity is also changing how long people spend at the gates. Across the country, regional and national properties are aggressively transforming into comprehensive, all-in-one vacation destinations that offer immense convenience for parents trying to manage logistics.

"We see what used to be a one-day trip often turns into like mini vacations where our members' attractions—it can be zoos, amusement parks, museums—where they offer accommodation, where they offer special experiences which go beyond what used to be a half a day or a one-day trip and making something very special," Wahl explains.

By packaging lodging, diverse activities, high entertainment value and dining into a singular resort, parks have created a highly predictable environment that takes the guesswork out of vacation planning.

"They combine convenience, variety and predictability with high entertainment value at the same time where you know that the whole family will enjoy it," Wahl says. "You know that there's something for the grandkids, for the kids, for the parents, [and] for the grandparents—that everybody can have a good time together," Wahl notes. "It's a pretty safe thing to book because you know what to expect and [the service you will receive]… because it's kind of a resort approach where you go somewhere to experience something."

The Hidden Power of Immersive Storytelling

To successfully compete with digital devices and the endless pull of television screens at home, modern park builders are heavily leaning into powerful intellectual properties (IP) to create positive, high-energy environments where families can completely unplug from the daily news cycle.

"Guests today are looking for deeper, more meaningful experiences once again where they forget about everything else," Wahl says. "And this is where storytelling comes into play. This idea of experience something, of diving into a themed story with music, with environment, with the right food and beverage, where you again forget about all those Fox News, CNN, everything which bombards you every day, but where you dive into that experience."

Wahl points out that this intersection of the virtual and physical world is triggering massive global collaborations, such as Merlin Entertainments partnering with Minecraft to bring the digital game into physical theme park spaces, echoing the massive success of Universal’s partnerships with Nintendo.

"Combining the entertainment gaming world with attractions is exactly the response to that," Wahl adds. "We are [about] real-world emotions—where you see laughter, scares, [and] the joy of others," Wahl adds. "And I think that is something which is just very, very important to understand [in terms of] what we are able to do for people."

How to Navigate the "Premium Era" on a Budget

As parks introduce premium skip-the-line passes, up-charged seasonal food festivals, and exclusive VIP experiences, the conversation around the baseline cost of a family vacation has never been more prominent. While the industry has shifted toward a more premium model, Wahl notes that the financial reality of a summer visit ultimately comes down to early planning and smart scheduling.

"Quality remains long time after price is forgotten," Wahl states. "Yes, some attractions ask for higher prices, but I think ultimately when you look at them, they offer a very good value. The attendance numbers of the parks speak for themselves. But ultimately, I think it comes down to planning and prioritization because guests who are flexible with timing can take advantage of advance ticketing, they can focus on core experiences—that can absolutely create a meaningful visit at a more accessible price point. There are shoulder seasons, there are other offers in the market, so that is something where planning is really, really helpful."

Insiders point out that leveraging seasonal promotional deals, such as Disney's Cool Kids' Summer promotion—which offers two complimentary theme park days after booking a four-night package—proves that families who are willing to navigate the peak summer temperatures can secure immense value.

"With any attraction, it’s important to understand what’s included with your ticket," Wahl advises, pointing to iconic properties as a prime blueprint for maximizing value. "At Magic Kingdom, your ticket gives you access to world-class entertainment, immersive experiences and classic attractions at no additional cost. Add-ons like Lightning Lanes to skip the line, photo pass picture downloads and table service dining can enhance your visit, but aren’t necessary to enjoy a practical itinerary and experience the highlights of this classic theme park."

Weather can easily throw off even the best-laid summer plans. Sometimes it’s heatwaves that keep you inside, while other times, it’s surprise showers or roaring thunderstorms. Normally $30, Amazon has a 20%-off Memorial Day weekend deal on the LEGO Creator 3-in-1 Hummingbird Set, which brings the price down to just $24. With 312 pieces, this set leans into bright, summery colors from the very first build. The blocks come in a mix of lush greens, turquoise blues, fuchsia pinks, orchid purples, and sunny yellows, along with clear, almost glass-like elements that give each design a more dynamic, motion-like feel.

The main build starts as a hummingbird suspended mid-air, hovering above a flower as it drinks nectar from the center. It has an airy, in-motion look that makes it seem a little more lifelike and eye-catching than other builds. But like all LEGO Creator 3-in-1 sets, it doesn’t stop there. Once you’re ready to switch things up, you can take it apart and rebuild the same pieces into two completely different designs: A tropical fish gliding through a colorful reef or a butterfly resting among blooming flowers.

The pieces come neatly sorted into separate bags, and the fully illustrated instruction booklet clearly walks you through each step, making the set easy for builders ages 8 and up to put together. Once finished, any of the three designs could double as decor, adding a pop of color and a nature-inspired touch to a desk, shelf, or table. Whether you’re a master at LEGO or a newcomer looking for a relaxing, low-pressure hobby, it’s a build you can ease into and actually enjoy the whole way through.

Planning workouts around holiday schedules often leads to questions about access and timing, especially for large national chains. Many members search for details on Planet Fitness Memorial Day hours or wonder if Planet Fitness opens on Memorial Day before making plans for the long weekend. Because hours can vary by location and franchise ownership, it is important to understand how the gym typically operates during federal holidays like Memorial Day.

Yes, most Planet Fitness locations are open on Memorial Day. However, specific hours vary by club, as many gyms are independently operated. Some locations remain open with regular hours, while others may close earlier than usual.

In general, Planet Fitness does not treat Memorial Day as a full shutdown holiday. Instead, it is more common to see modified schedules rather than complete closures. This means members can often still access equipment, cardio machines and strength training areas during part of the day.

Because policies vary, the most reliable option is to check directly with your local club. The official Planet Fitness location finder provides up-to-date details for each gym and confirms whether a specific branch is open and what its holiday schedule is.

This Disney Villain Was Ranked More Evil Than Scar and Maleficent

Sun, 05/24/2026 - 3:00am

Disney may be known for its magical heroes and happy endings, but the villains are often the characters fans remember most.

PixlParade took a data-driven approach to ranking Disney villains, analyzing their crimes and actions based on how severe they would be in the real world.

One villain stood far above the rest.

According to the study, Judge Claude Frollo from The Hunchback of Notre Dame is Disney’s most evil villain.

Unlike many classic Disney antagonists, Frollo’s cruelty feels terrifyingly realistic. His actions are fueled by fanaticism, prejudice, and a complete lack of empathy, making him one of Disney’s darkest and most chilling characters ever created.

The study also explored Disney’s more misunderstood villains, including Hades and Maleficent. While their actions are still villainous, their stories are rooted in betrayal, resentment, isolation and heartbreak, showing how Disney villains have evolved from simple "bad guys" into far more layered and complex characters over the years.

From Scar and Ursula to Maleficent and Hades, Disney’s villains continue to fascinate fans because they reflect both the darkest and most human sides of storytelling.

Quote of the Day: Gary Sinise's 11 Words on Finding Your True Purpose Are Exactly What Memorial Day Is About

Sun, 05/24/2026 - 2:47am

Gary Sinise has never been just another Hollywood actor. The Forrest Gumpstar is so much bigger and brighter than any red carpet spotlight, box office record or award nomination—he's someone who reminds us what it truly means to serve. And while his acting roles will always live in our hearts, the work he's doing off camera has transformed countless lives and families.

Born Gary Alan Sinise on March 17, 1955 in Blue Island, Illinois, he grew up the son of a film editor and a homemaker. The oldest of three children, he loved baseball and music way more than school. He wasn't the model student—but he had heart. His drama teacher, Barbara Patterson, saw his potential and pulled him aside one day to tell him he should audition for the school musical—West Side Story. And just like that, he discovered his passion for acting, changing the course of his life forever. In 1974—at just 18 years old—he co-founded Chicago's legendary Steppenwolf Theatre Company with two friends.

🎬 SIGN UP for Parade’s Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬

The next two decades were a steady climb. By 25, he was Steppenwolf's Artistic Director and won an Obie Award in 1984 for his off-Broadway direction of Sam Shepard'sTrue West with his old friend John Malkovich. He'd also earn the first of four Tony Award nominations for his performance in The Grapes of Wrath on Broadway. By the early '90s, the Illinois native wasn't a household name yet, but he built a steady career that was deeply respected by artists and critics alike.

Then came Forrest Gump. As Lieutenant Dan Taylor, Sinise delivered a performance that struck a deep, permanent chord with the American public. Lt. Dan was arguably the first modern movie character to give '90s audiences a raw, unfiltered and deeply empathetic look at a soldier's harrowing journey—from military service to life-changing injury to physical recovery to the emotional wounds that last a lifetime. The overwhelming response he received from real veterans gave him something so much bigger than his Oscar nomination—it opened his eyes to a community of heroes who needed a champion in their corner.

You see, just months after Forrest Gump hit theaters, Sinise was invited to the Disabled American Veterans national convention—and when he walked into the room, every single veteran rose to give him a standing ovation. The actor spent the next 17 years quietly showing up for our heroes through USO tours, hospital visits and trips to Iraq and Afghanistan—all on his own time and his own dime—before founding the Gary Sinise Foundation in 2011.

Playing the role of Lt. Dan would forever change his life—and it'd also change the lives of countless servicemen, veterans and military families across the country. In just 15 years, the foundation has raised more than $300 million for Gold Star families, veterans and first responders.

Sinise also fronts the Lt. Dan Band, which has played nearly 600 concerts for American troops around the world. He's gifted more than 100 mortgage-free smart homes to severely wounded veterans. And every year, he brings the children of fallen heroes to Walt Disney World through his Snowball Express program, giving them a week of pure magic in the middle of unimaginable grief. That barely scratches the surface of his foundation's incredible work.

Over the past three decades, he's proven that the greatest way to lift yourself up is by uplifting others. Gary Sinise is a powerful example of what Memorial Day is truly all about—and that's why he's today’s quote of the day.

Quote of the Day by Gary Sinise

Parade/CanvaPro

"I found that the more I gave, the more I healed."

We all ask ourselves one big question—and probably more often than we'd like to admit. What am I really here to do? What's my purpose? It can sit heavy on our hearts—especially when life gets overwhelming with work, family and everything in between. But sometimes, the most beautiful answer is the one we never saw coming. And that's what makes Gary Sinise's quote so perfect. He's saying that it wasn't awards, Hollywood paychecks, fancy cars or houses that made his life better—it was his decision to give back.

Deeper Meaning of Gary Sinise's Quote—When You Help Others, You Help Yourself

It's such a simple idea, but it's unique in that it goes against almost everything we're taught. We're told to put ourselves first—to rest, recover and restart. Of course, self-care is important. But Sinise is sharing a deeper truth—that helping others is often the starting point for our own healing journey.

It reminds us that we're not as broken as we thought—that we have purpose and that we matter. Our hearts, our words and our help not only make a difference, but they also create a human connection that makes us feel less alone.

And you don't have to be famous or start your own foundation to make a difference—there are so many ways to volunteer in your own community. Websites like AARP's Create the Good—or even a quick Google search—can connect you with local organizations that would be grateful for your help.

This Memorial Day, as we honor the brave men and women who gave everything for our country, Sinise's words become so much more than one man's wisdom. They become an invitation. Because the best way to honor the heroes we've lost isn't only in moments of silence or flags placed at gravesides—it's in how we show up for the people they left behind—and for each other—every single day after.

More Quotes From Gary Sinise
  • "While we can never do enough to show gratitude to our nation's defenders, veterans, first responders and the families that serve alongside them, we can always do a little more."
  • "Freedom and security are precious gifts that we, as Americans, should never take for granted."
  • "Careers, like rockets, don't always take off on schedule. The key is to keep working the engines."
  • "We each have a purpose in life, and if we're serving and following that calling, then even difficult times can turn out all right."
  • "Life can end at any time. That's why we all need to make the most of each day."
