Since her debut self-titled album was released 20 years ago, Taylor Swifthas consistently been in the spotlight, but nothing has quite compared to the level of stardom the "Bejeweled" singer reached throughout her 21-month, 149-show Eras Tour. Although that record-breaking concert tour concluded in December of 2024, Swift's star hasn't declined—far from it.

In fact, Swift has continued to make major headlines in the time since, not only with her 2025 album The Life of a Showgirl, but also with her fairly public relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce. After various sightings at Chiefs games, on date nights and at an array of events, the couple officially became engaged last August, leading to months of theories and speculation about when and where they would get married.

On July 3, all of that chatter came to an halt, as Swift and Kelce officially tied the knot in a star-studded (but still very private) wedding ceremony at Madison Square Garden. The news of Swift's nuptials taking place in the "World's Most Famous Arena" might seem like the greatest shock of all, but a recent sighting of Swift's brand-new husband has now raised a question that will have any Swiftie in a state of disbelief.

Namely, Kelce was just recently spotted stepping off of a private jet with a large, fluffy white dog in tow, which has many now wondering if the newlyweds may have gotten a dog together. While that wouldn't be all that surprising for many couples, Swifties (and perhaps even casual fans) will know all too well that Taylor Swift has always been a proud cat person. Her three cats, Meredith Grey, Olivia Benson and Benjamin Button, are perhaps almost as famous as she is within the fanbase.

Beyond just having cats, though, Swift has directly addressed her preference for felines over canines, such as in her 2020 documentary, Miss Americana, when she jokes about her mom, Andrea Swift's, huge dog, a Great Dane named Kitty.

For now, Swift and Kelce haven't officially confirmed that this mysterious white dog is theirs, but if it is, many fans will undoubtedly be totally shocked.

1966 Rock Classic Was a Legendary Band’s First Top 40 Hit

"Happy Jack" was released by the English rock band, The Who, in 1966. Written by their guitarist, Pete Townshend, it was their first top 40 hit in the United States.

In Who I Am: A Memoir, Townshend spoke about the creation of the song. He said, “I completed and assembled demos for a number of tracks intended for The Who’s still-untitled second album. I bought a cello and played it on ‘Happy Jack,’ a nonsense song I wrote about a village idiot from the Isle of Man. This is Paul McCartney’s favorite Who song—tellingly because it was partly inspired by ‘Eleanor Rigby,’ which I thought was a small masterpiece.”

Roger Daltrey, the singer for the band, also spoke about the song with Uncut magazine in 2015. He said, “I remember when I first heard ‘Happy Jack,’ I thought, ‘What the f–k do I do with this? It’s like a German oompah song!’ I had a picture in my head that this was the kind of song that Burl Ives would sing, so ‘Happy Jack’ was my imitation of Burl Ives!”

He continued, “But listen to [Keith] Moon on that track—in those days, he was so distinctive, even from the very first night he played with us. We got Keith, this kid we didn’t know out of the audience, on the drums, and it was like this f–king jet engine starting. I was like, ‘What the f–k’s this?!’ It was such instant chemistry. Really, we couldn’t have had any other drummer. He was incredible.”

The band performed the song until 1970. A small snippet was also played at a 1982 concert after a fan holding a sign requested it. However, the band admitted that they couldn’t remember how to play the full song anymore.

The Who went on to release several more hits throughout the years, including “Pinball Wizard,” "Baba O'Riley," "Won't Get Fooled Again," and "My Generation." In 1990, they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The group disbanded in 1983, but they have since reunited for several tours. Their final tour, The Song Is Over Tour, ended in October 2025.

Color Psychologist Says Wearing This Color Makes You Appear Instantly More Confident

Whether you're trying to land a new job or headed out on a first date, it's natural to want to make a good impression with your clothes. Fit and dress code are two important considerations, but don't sleep on hue. Color psychology plays into clothing—how we feel, and how others receive us. Tapping into it can color your potential boss or main squeeze impressed by your confidence.

"Confidence isn't just felt—it's communicated, and color is one of the fastest, most primal channels through which that communication happens," explains Michelle Lewis, a color psychology expert and certified color analyst. "Before someone has heard your voice, read your resume or shaken your hand, they've already formed an impression based in part on the colors you're wearing."

She says that when you understand color psychology and clothing, you can consciously access a process that's usually automatic. Then, you can make intentional choices to dress to exude self-assurance to others and yourself, rather than leaving it to chance.

"For confidence specifically, this matters because the right color doesn't just signal confidence to others," Lewis, who is also the founder of ColorAnalysis.com and The Color Institute and the author of Color Secrets: Learning The One Universal Language We Were Never Taught, tells Parade. "Through enclothed cognition, it can actively generate it in you."

For the uninitiated, she explains that "enclothed cognition is a term coined by researchers Adam and Galinsky. It describes how the colors we wear can influence our psychological state, so not just how others see us, but how we think, feel and perform."

"It's not just what you wear, it's what you believe that garment means," Lewis says. "Clothing carries symbolic weight, and that symbolic weight becomes part of how you inhabit your own mind and body. Color is one of the most powerful symbolic carriers in that equation."

So, what color best represents courage and determination? Is it also the best color for a high-stakes situation like a job interview, tough conversation or on-camera appearance? Below, Lewis reveals the color that can help you feel instantly more confident. Plus, she suggests a few more "power colors" to wear (along with the best hues for stressful situations) along with what shades to avoid.

The #1 Color To Make You Look Instantly More Confident, Color Psychologist Says

According to a color psychology expert, red is the color that makes you appear instantly more confident. Lewis says red is one of the ultimate power colors to wear because it signals status, authority and attractiveness at the same time.

"Those three things together are the perceptual backbone of confidence," she states.

The Psychology Behind Why Red Exudes Power

Lewis shares that there's documented evidence on the psychology of red, showing that this powerful color exudes confidence. For starters, she points to a University of Cambridge study published in Frontiers in Psychology that showed that people implicitly linked red with high-status symbols faster than any other color—and the effect held across genders and cultures.

"When you walk into a room in red, people notice the color very quickly and make immediate assumptions about you and your authority," she tells Parade.

Lewis also shares a 2018 meta-analysis that confirmed the red-romance effect in several studies. Oh, and another study published in the European Journal of Social Psychology found that people thought they were more attractive when wearing red than when wearing blue.

"Red doesn't just change how others see you," she notes. "It changes how you see yourself."

And then there's red's historical and cultural record, which is the stuff of ancient history.

"Red has been the color of emperors, cardinals, generals and sovereigns across virtually every civilization in recorded history," the color analyst notes. "Roman generals wore red cloaks in military triumphs. Chinese emperors reserved red exclusively for royal ceremonies. In the Middle Ages, red garments signaled God-given authority to rule."

Red is a powerful color to wear because it demands response, which Lewis calls its "greatest strength and its most important caveat." She explains that the European Journal of Social Psychology study mentioned above also noted that the "red effect" doesn't benefit everyone. For instance, people who don't like being the center of attention may find that red triggers anxiety, not confidence.

Ultimately, here's the truth about colors that make you look confident: It's highly personal.

"The most confident color you can wear is the one that makes you feel most fully and boldly yourself," Lewis says. "Red is the most universally documented power signal. But a person who feels genuinely alive in cobalt blue will out-project someone uncomfortable in red every single time. Enclothed cognition works both ways—the garment has to mean something to you for it to work on you."

3 Other ‘Power Colors’ To Boost Your Confidence

Red may not work for everyone, but there are other colors that project authority. You may feel more confident rocking one of these powerful colors:

1. Blue

Have you ever noticed that boardrooms and other professional and diplomatic environments are often a little bit blue—in a good way? That's by design. Lewis reports that blue projects reliability, intelligence and calm authority.

"Blue doesn't demand attention the way red does—it subtly earns it," she says. "For people who lead with their minds rather than their presence, blue is often the most authentic power color available."

2. Deep green

Deep green has a nearly unmatched ability to exude stability, groundedness and quiet authority, Lewis notes.

"In my own production work dressing executives and public figures on camera, deep green consistently builds audience trust and loyalty while feeling very present," she states. "It reads as someone who has nothing to prove and nowhere to be but here."

3. Purple

Lewis describes purple as "the power color for the person whose authority comes from vision and depth rather than hierarchy or status."

According to her, purple signals spiritual intelligence and unconventional thinking.

"The color historically reserved for those whose power transcended the ordinary," she adds. "In contemporary professional contexts, [wearing purple] deliberately communicates that you operate at a different level of thinking than most people in the room. It's a quiet but unmistakable signal."

The 3 Worst Colors To Wear if You Want To Look Confident

Now that you know how to dress for confidence using color psychology, it's worth noting a few hues that may not exude confidence.

1. Washed-out or very pale versions of any color

Lewis notes that these colors are the "most consistent confidence underminer."

"It's not because the hue is wrong but because the lack of saturation reads as uncertainty," she explains. "A pale, faded color signals someone who started to make a statement and then thought better of it. Saturation carries conviction; its absence suggests the opposite."

2. Yellow

Lewis notes yellow is best left at home if you're trying to dress for confidence in a professional context. She points out that a 2014 SAGE Open study painted a room in a yellow hue, and most students felt restless or overly excited in it.

"Yellow also connects to aposematism—the biological warning signal hardwired into human perception, meaning its brightness triggers alertness in the people around you rather than the settled authority you're trying to project," she explains. "In a high-stakes room, a color that makes nearly two-thirds of people restless is not your ally."

3. Orange

Orange has its place, but it's a tricky one with confidence.

"It's one of the most socially connecting colors in the spectrum, and that's precisely the problem in high-stakes confidence contexts," Lewis states. "Orange invites people in. It doesn't signal that you're the one leading. For networking, it's a genuine asset. For commanding a room, it is a challenge."

38 Years Ago, a $1 Million Challenge Tried To Settle One of Music's Biggest Myths

Elvis Presley died on Aug. 16, 1977.

But for years afterward, a surprising number of fans refused to believe the King of Rock 'n' Roll was really gone.

The "Elvis Lives" phenomenon became one of pop culture's most enduring conspiracy theories, fueled by alleged sightings, tabloid headlines and rumors that Presley had staged his own death to escape the pressures of fame.

By the late 1980s, the myth had grown so widespread that it inspired one of the most unusual promotions in radio history.

On July 14, 1988, Nashville radio station WYHY, known as "Y107, The Outrageous FM," announced it would pay $1 million to anyone who could bring the real Elvis Presley to the station for a one-hour exclusive interview. The promotion's goal, according to the station, was to either persuade Elvis to come forward—or finally put the rumors to rest.

Of course, no one ever claimed the prize.

Instead, the contest became another chapter in the legend surrounding Presley, whose reported sightings only seemed to multiply after his death.

Fans claimed to have spotted him everywhere from airports and restaurants to grocery stores, while tabloids regularly published grainy photos and sensational headlines suggesting the music icon was secretly living under a new identity.

The fascination became so widespread that it extended far beyond fan circles. In 1988, Tennessee medical examiner Dr. Charles Harlan publicly reiterated that Presley had, in fact, died in 1977, responding to the persistent rumors that continued to circulate more than a decade later.

Psychologists have long suggested that conspiracy theories surrounding beloved public figures often emerge because fans struggle to accept an unexpected loss. In Presley's case, his larger-than-life persona and sudden death at age 42 made him the perfect subject for speculation, with each new "sighting" reinforcing the legend rather than ending it.

Today, nearly five decades after his death, the "Elvis Lives" myth remains one of the most celebrity conspiracy theories ever created. Of course, the million-dollar reward was never collected.

I Tried 12 Hippeas Flavors—Here's the One I'd Buy Every Time

While shopping for snacks, I always try to pick up a mix of my favorite treats and some healthier options to strike the right balance. Plenty of brands aim to create healthy alternatives that are equal parts nutritious and delicious, but sadly, many of them fall short on the latter promise.

A few years ago, I got on a chickpea kick and started trying different brands that offer foods made with chickpeas. As a picky eater, I was pleased to discover that most of the chickpea products I tried weren't offensive. In fact, they were quite delightful.

So when I stumbled upon Hippeas, a brand that makes snacks with chickpea flour as one of the main ingredients, I was almost skeptical. After all, how can a cheese doodle or a tortilla chip actually taste good and be better for you? After trying a few of the brand's products, I was hooked.

Over the years, Hippeas has added a number of different flavors and products. Most recently, the brand released its Protein Crunch line, which features puffed snacks that have 8 grams of plant-based protein per 1 ounce serving.

As a longtime fan of the brand, I was excited to put the new products to the test and was curious to see how they measured up to other flavors. So I enlisted the help of my husband and set out to explore the different snack varieties the brand has to offer. Here's how the taste test went.

Are Hippeas Chickpea Puffs Healthy?

The Hippeas website says the brand's products are "packed with plant protein & fiber."

"We're all about Zero Snackrifice! No cardboard snacks here, our snacks are packed with Far Out Flavor so you don't have to choose between taste and eating better," it reads.

So, how healthy are Hippeas snacks? We asked registered dietitians Nichole Dandrea-Russert and CandiceKnauerto weigh in on their nutritional value.

For starters, Knauer says chickpeas are a "nutrient dense legume naturally rich in both fiber and plant based protein."

"Since chickpeas are the first ingredient in Hippeas, they're able to provide both of these nutrients, something many traditional snack chips can't offer. The combination of fiber and protein may also make this snack a bit more satisfying than chips made primarily from refined starches," she says.

Dandrea-Russert adds that plant-based snacks are great to keep on hand to "help bridge the gap between meals, support steadier blood sugar levels and reduce the likelihood of grabbing less nutritious convenience foods when hunger strikes."

Of course, you're not eating a handful of chickpeas when you're snacking on Hippeas, so the nutritional benefits are certainly limited.

"Hippeas provide 8 grams of plant protein per serving, which is a nice bonus compared to many crunchy snack foods. However, they contain just 1 gram of fiber per serving, so they're not nutritionally equivalent to whole chickpeas or other minimally processed legumes," Dandrea-Russert says.

Overall, Hippeas are a healthier alternative to many other packaged snacks.

"While Hippeas are still considered a processed food, they can be a more nutritious option than many conventional snack chips," Knauer, the founder of Firstline Nutrition, says.

How Many Flavors of Hippeas Chickpea Puffs Are There?

Hippeas currently offers 13 flavors of snacks. That total includes the following varieties:

How I Tested the Flavors

Along with my husband, I tested 12 different flavor of Hippeas over the course of two weeks to compare flavors. We took notes on the flavor, consistency and freshness of each snack and compared notes to compile our list and determine which flavors we liked the most.

When Hippeas sent me their Blazin' Hot chickpea puffs to try a few months ago, I was a bit nervous. I'm not a fan of hot foods and I was right in my suspicious that these were going to be quite spicy.

My husband typically enjoys hot foods, so he was excited to try them, but even he thought they were a little too hot. As he described, the heat starts to linger after you have a few of them, and not necessarily after having just one. Still, if you have a high tolerance for heat, you'll probably like them.

I'll be honest, I have a strong aversion to pickles, so I already knew before trying this one that I wouldn't be fond of it. The smell is quite strong when you open the bag and you can almost taste the pickle flavor, even if someone next to you is the one eating the puffs.

As expected, the puffs were tangy and pickle-flavored with a slightly sweet aftertaste. My husband is more adventurous with flavors than I am, and he said the pickle taste grows on you with each bite. He described it as being similar to other salt and vinegar snacks where the flavor is strong at first, then subsides and leaves you wanting more.

10. Hippeas Cheddar Vibrations Protein Crunch, $17.99

For years, the Nacho Vibes Hippeas puffs were my favorite product from the brand. Unfortunately, you can't find those anymore, but I was excited to see how this new product compared.

It certainly has a nice cheesy taste, but it's crunchier and thinner than the other puffs from the brand. To me, the crunchiness lends it a bit of a stale taste versus the light and airy texture of the other puffs. Even so, it's kind of addictive.

Overall, I prefer the other puffs since they taste fresher, but I do appreciate the added 8 grams of protein.

9. Hippeas Pizza Party Protein Crunch, $15.83

Part of the new Protein Crunch collection, these Pizza Party Hippeas puffs have notes of cheese, tomato and Italian herbs. I first tried them a few months ago, when the brand debuted them.

Similar to the Cheddar Vibrations puffs, these ones are also crunchy, which lends them a slight stale taste. But overall, they're a nice snack with a pleasant pizza flavor. In fact, the pizza flavor could be turned up a bit more to make them even better.

8. Hippeas Chickpea Puffs Jalapeno Cheddar Blaze, $3.28

I'm not generally a fan of spicy flavors, so this one was a bit much for me. However, my husband really enjoyed it.

As he described it, you definitely taste the heat immediately, but it grows on you. Since he has a higher tolerance for spice, he said the heat wasn't overwhelming and he appreciated the little kick of flavor.

Both my husband and I appreciated the refreshing lime taste of these tortilla chips. They're nice and crunchy, for starters. They also have a bit of a spicy cheese lime taste that lingers in a pleasant way. Still, they're not too spicy.

Ranch fans will love these bite-sized chickpea puffs. Compared to the ranch tortilla chips, the ranch flavor is less pronounced. With these puffs, the cheese flavor is stronger than the ranch. Still, these have a nice flavor and they're extra light.

My husband is a big fan of Cool Ranch Doritos, but I don't buy them all the time since I try to find healthier alternatives. Luckily, this tortilla chip won his seal of approval and he didn't feel like he was missing out on his beloved snack. In fact, he said it satiated his cravings without leaving him feel sluggish like some highly processed snacks do.

As for flavor, it has more of a kick than Cool Ranch Doritos and the ranch taste is more noticeable. Still, it's light and not overwhelming.

4. Hippeas Chickpea Tortilla Chips Nacho Vibes, $19.68

I grew up loving Nacho Cheese Doritos, and still enjoy them every once in a while. However, I've noticed that Doritos don't quite taste the same as they once do. More often than not, they seem stale, and the flavor isn't as vibrant as it once was.

Hippeas offers a healthier alternative in the form of this chickpea tortilla chip that has a great crunch. Since it's so crunchy, it's definitely chewier than Doritos, but not in a bad way. In fact, the extra bit of chewing made me feel more full. The cheddar taste is pleasant and subtle without being overpowering. It's kind of like a happy medium between a plain tortilla chip and Doritos.

3. Hippeas Cheezy Does It Puffs Cheddar Pops, $3.69

Heading into this taste test, I was already a fan of these cheesy puff balls. After trying several other flavors, they still remain one of my favorites.

The bite-sized puffs are made with a mix of yellow pea flour, chickpea flour, rice flour, corn flour, avocado oil and other ingredients. Similar to the larger puffs, they're soft, light and airy. The cheesy flavor is just right without feeling tangy, and it doesn't leave any orange powder on your fingers like some similar snacks.

One practical thing to note: They're great for grabbing by the fistful, but not ideal when you're on the go since they're not as easy to grip as the bigger puffs.

2. Hippeas Chickpea Puffs All Dressed Up, $3.28

This was my husband's favorite Hippeas snack that we tested, by far. It has a mix of sour cream and onion, barbecue and salt and vinegar flavors. While chowing down on the puffs, he said he could easily have eaten the whole bag by himself.

With several strong flavors competing at once, it could easily be too much. However, the puffs have just the right balance of flavors, and none of the individual flavors overpower each other.

Sometimes, simpler is better, and this was hands down my favorite flavor for its simplicity.

The puffs are incredibly soft and airy, and the white cheddar taste is spot-on. It's authentic without feeling artificial, and makes you want to scoop up any extra crumbs that fell to the bottom of the bag. There's no aftertaste, either, which is great.

When you're eating an individually portioned bag, you can sometimes feel like you're left wanting more. But this portion was quite filling and I was totally satisfied.

I've been a fan of Hippeas snacks for years, but hadn't ever tried all of the flavors before. After this taste test, I'm thoroughly impressed by how much the brand has expanded. I'm still a creature of habit, so the simpler flavors are my favorites, but the brand is doing a good job of creating healthier, adventurous snack options for consumers. 1982 Radio Hit, Named One of the Top Heartbreak Songs of All Time, Remains a Brutally Honest Classic

The early ’80s airwaves were a wild mix of stadium rock anthems, new wave, and the rise of synth-pop and sleek R&B.

However, one singer and songwriter stood out to become one of the most emotionally enduring heavyweights of the decade. His 1982 hit was recently named one of the Top Breakup Songs of All Time by Billboard Magazine, proving its worth during a time where turning on the radio meant hearing a masterclass in heartbreak.

Decades after its release, Joe Jackson's "Breaking Us in Two" still perfectly captures the melancholy of a crumbling relationship, blending a catchy, piano-driven melody with lyrics that cut straight to the bone.

It ranked at No. 47 on the list. It landed squarely between Lizzo's 2017 smash "Truth Hurts" at 48 and The Supremes' 1966 hit, "You Keep Me Hanging On," at 46.

The song hailed from Jackson's 1982 LP Night and Day. It was released in January 1983 and peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Top 100 in March.

"Breaking Us in Two" was the third of three charting singles from the album. The other two were the hits "Steppin' Out" and "You Can't Get What You Want."

What made the song, and the entire Night and Day album, so interesting was Jackson's choice to ban guitars from the studio completely, according to Songfacts. Instead, he used pianos, synthesizers, and heavy percussion to build the music. "Breaking Us in Two" gets its unforgettable sound from a beautifully played piano instead of a guitar solo.

Jackson's heartbreaking lyrics include lines such as "Don’t you feel like trying something new. Don’t you feel like breaking out, or breaking us in two?" These words perfectly capture that painful moment in a relationship when you realize the other person is already halfway out the door.

Jackson explained to the magazine Classic Pop, "By the time I got to Night And Day, I was just doing my own thing, not really caring about what anyone else was doing. They were absolutely what I wanted to do at the time, but I think they were just a little bit contrived in terms of being the right sound for the time. There’s a fine line here – I wouldn’t say they were phoney or anything, but, yeah, that’s the most I was influenced by the general vibe at the time."

The vibe meant making music videos that were a staple of getting a song noticed by the public outside of radio. Jackson wasn't a fan of the genre. He believed, at the time, that the medium and outlets like MTV were having a "negative effect on music," per a statement reprinted by Songfacts from the book I Want My MTV.

"I believed MTV was beginning to have a negative effect on music," he said in the book. "I'm well aware that refusing to make videos accomplishes nothing whatsoever except, how should I put this, to make my next record less successful. It damaged my career, and it never fully recovered."

Joe Jackson is currently promoting his 22nd studio album, Hope and Fury, released in April 2026. He is on a major international tour that kicked off in North America.

1973 Road Trip Anthem, a Delayed Hit, Ranked Among the 'Top Hard Rock Songs' That Defined the ‘70s

In 1973, the Edgar Winter Group released a monster of a hit – and we’re not talking "Frankenstein.” The song was “Free Ride,” and it had a bit of a delayed ride up the charts.

Written by Dan Hartman, “Free Ride” featured a funky guitar rhythm, catchy keyboards, and upbeat lyrics about freedom and adventure on the open road. It became one of the band’s signature songs, hitting No.14 on the coveted Billboard Hot 100 in October 1973.

Ultimate Classic Rock ranked “Free Ride” among the top 50 hard rock gems that defined the 1970s. The outlet noted, “Coming off a surprise No. 1 with the instrumental ‘Frankenstein,’ Edgar Winter Group wasted little time issuing a follow-up single in 'Free Ride' that reached No. 14. Written and sung by Dan Hartman…’Free Ride' tapped into the soul music he was drawn to in the '60s. His Winter Group bandmates give it some edge.”

"Free Ride” was the first single from the 1972 album They Only Come Out at Night, but it was overshadowed by “Frankenstein,” the Edgar Winter Group’s iconic chart-topping instrumental. It was re-released after “Frankenstein” went to No. 1.

In an interview with Vintage Rock, Winter recalled, “We thought ‘Free Ride’ sounded like the radio hit, but when we released it, it went nowhere. We released a few more singles, but then when we released ‘Frankenstein’ as a B-side to ‘Hanging Around,’ it started to get underground FM airplay, then AM picked it up, and they were editing it, it just exploded, and it made it to Number One, which was unheard of for an instrumental, really. Then ‘Free Ride’ hit as well.”

“We thought “Free Ride” was going to be the hit, never intending for what we called at that time, 'The Instrumental,' to even be recorded,” the music legend added.

More than 50 years later, “Free Ride” remains a rock radio classic and an unforgettable memory of Hartman’s talent. Speaking withGoldmine magazine, Winter gave Hartman, who died in 1984, full credit for the song.

“Every time I sing it, I think of Dan,” Winter, now 79, said of “Free Ride.” “It was his song; he had a version of that when I met him. I never claimed any writing credit, even though I came up with the end: ‘Yeah yeah yeah yeah,’ you know, that part. I kind of added that as a gospel kind of reprise and using the synthesizer with the ‘shewwwwwww,’ you know, the free ride kind of sound.”

“When I hear that song, it reminds me of when we were kids, when we were on the road doing the Southern club circuit,” Winter added. “‘Free Ride’ reminds me of a song you hear in the car, when you’re riding in your car and the radio, it’s that kind of song.”

"I was a pretty young girl, so I fell into the modeling thing, and I did Playboy, so then the rock stars came a-hunting, as I like to say," she cracked.

Her personal life soon became the stuff of rock-and-roll legend. Over the years, Buell was romantically linked to Todd Rundgren, Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Jimmy Page, Iggy Pop, Elvis Costello, John Taylor and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, the biological father of actress Liv Tyler. Rundgren, however, signed Liv's birth certificate and raised her during her early years, a decision Buell has said was made to protect her daughter while Tyler battled drug addiction.

Despite the mythology surrounding those relationships, Buell has consistently rejected the "groupie" label. Speaking with New York Magazine in 2011, she said, "I consider 'groupie' a sexist term, and I think it's misused. I was a free agent. I was a very independent, successful girl. I made my own money, I bought my own airline tickets. When I got a paycheck, I went to Bergdorf and I bought my own clothes. There were no rock stars buying me my clothes."

Music, she says, was always the real dream. Keith Richards encouraged her to start a band, while Ric Ocasek produced her first EP and his band The Cars served as her backing band on several tracks. Duran Duran's Taylor later assembled the musicians who would become the Power Station around one of Buell's projects before Robert Palmer eventually stepped into the lead singer role. Buell went on to front several bands of her own and has continued releasing music into the 21st century, including her 2011 album Hard Love.

Looking back on New York's creative explosion in the early 1970s, Buell described a scene where musicians, actors, artists and writers all shared the same spaces. In a 2009 interview with Juice Magazine, she recalled, "On any given night, there would be Jane Fonda in one corner, Alice Cooper in the other corner, [Andy] Warhol in another with David Bowie thrown in. It was just different because it all mixed and meshed together."

Her 2001 memoir, "Rebel Heart: An American Rock and Roll Journey," became a New York Times bestseller, allowing Buell to tell her own story after years of tabloid headlines. Even Cameron Crowe's Oscar-winning film Almost Famous bears traces of her legacy, with Buell serving as one of the inspirations for the film's backstage world and the character Penny Lane, which earned Kate Hudson an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe win.

Today, Buell continues to perform and proudly embraces the identity she feels best defines her. As she told New York Magazine, "I am a rock monster. I am a rock-and-roll machine, and I don't have an expiration date."

More than 50 years after first arriving in New York with dreams of becoming a singer, she's still proving there's much more to her story than the label that made her famous.

On July 14, 1964, the Rolling Stones reached the top of the UK singles chart for the first time with "It's All Over Now," the first of what would become eight UK No. 1s. But the track had been written and recorded months earlier by someone else entirely.

A Song They Grabbed Fast

"It's All Over Now" was written by soul singer Bobby Womack and his sister-in-law Shirley Womack, and first released in 1964 by Womack's group the Valentinos on Sam Cooke's SAR Records label. During the Stones' first North American tour, the band heard the song and, just days later, cut their own version at Chicago's famed Chess Studios. Guitarist Keith Richards later recalled laying it down at the legendary R&B studio.

The Writer Was Not Happy, at First

Womack was furious that a British band had grabbed his song so quickly. It took Sam Cooke, his mentor, to calm him down, telling him to wait for the royalty checks to arrive. When they did, Womack changed his tune completely. He went on to offer the Stones more of his material, and two decades later he played on their 1986 album Dirty Work.

Six decades on, the band is still going strong, most recently with a new album this summer. But it all started with a borrowed song and a songwriter who came around.

Brooke Shields’ 'Blue Lagoon' Co-Star Reveals the Wild Way Their Director Tried to Push a Real-Life Romance

It's been 46 years since Brooke Shields starred in the movie The Blue Lagoon with Christopher Atkins.

The cult classic film, about shipwrecked teens Richard (Atkins) and Emmeline (Shields), who fall in love while trapped alone on a tropical island, heavily showcased the young actors’ onscreen chemistry. But the director of the movie wanted even more.

During a recent interview on the Media Path podcast, Atkins, now 65, recalled working with Shields, who was 15, three years his junior when they made the 1980 movie.

“She was great,” Atkins recalled of the actress and model. “I can't say enough good things about her. She was great. She turned 15 on the island. I mean, we kind of had a little romance in the beginning. And the director wanted us to have romance so it would show up on film.”

Atkins recalled that the film’s director, Randal Kleiser, tried to push a romance between him and Shields, and actually went to great lengths to do so.

“He actually…I first got there, I lived on a ship because I had no place on the island. So I was in a ship for two weeks offshore,” Atkins shared. “He had put a picture of Brooke over my bunk on the boat so I would look at her every night before I went to sleep so I would fall in love, so it would show up on film. And yeah, we did have a little a little romance and everything on the island, but it was very innocent and sweet and yes, of course, I was very protective of her and a lot of these things.”

Atkins previously spoke about the attempt at an off-camera Blue Lagoon romance in an interview with Woman’s Day.

“Randal, our director, wanted us to have a ‘puppy [love] romance’ to get a real vibe for the movie, so he cheekily taped a photo of Brooke over my bed,” he said in 2025.

It was Shields, especially, who wasn’t having any of it.

“They wanted us so desperately to fall in love with each other,” Shields recalled on an episode of her Now What? podcast. “I did not react well being forced into feeling anything. I hadn’t even kissed anybody by that age.”

She also wasn’t thrilled over wearing "little strips of clothing," and worse, the nude scenes that featured Atkins.

"I was like, 'Oh God, why do I have to look at this?'" Shields said. "'I've never seen one of those before, and I'm not going to start now!'"

Atkins auditioned against 4,000 other men for the starring role in The Blue Lagoon. Despite his lack of film experience at the time, he ultimately landed the role because Kleiser liked his look in a loincloth.

“[He] said I had the right look and physique,” Atkins told Woman’s Day. “Randal envisaged a tanned Adonis with blond curly hair.”

Casting the popular Shields was a no-brainer. Not only was she one of the top teen models at the time, but she already had acting experience in the moviesPretty Baby, Wanda Nevada, Tilt, and more.

Years later, Shields shared that she was bothered by some aspects of The Blue Lagoon.

In the 2013 documentary Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields, she accused the movie's producers of trying to exploit her as a young teen.

"They wanted to sell my actual sexual awakening," Shields said. "The irony was, I wasn’t in touch with any of my own sexuality."
