Richard Marx had an opportunity to work with Taylor Swift before she became a global superstar, but the ’80s music icon decided against it. Years later, he is opening up about why he passed on the chance — and why he still believes it was the right call.

According to Ultimate Classic Rock, Marx recalled the encounter during a recent appearance on the Bob Lefsetz podcast. The conversation took place around 20 years ago, when music executive Scott Borchetta had recently launched Big Machine Records and signed Swift.

Marx, known for hits including “Right Here Waiting” and “Hold On to the Nights,” was having dinner with Borchetta when the record executive invited him to listen to demos from his newly signed artist.

After playing a few of Swift’s recordings, Borchetta asked Marx whether he wanted to write songs with her.

Marx declined the offer after learning how young the future pop superstar was at the time.

“I said, ‘Dude, what the f— am I going to write with a 15 year old girl?’” Marx recalled, according to Ultimate Classic Rock.

Although Swift’s career would eventually reach extraordinary heights, Marx explained that his decision was based on whether he believed he could contribute meaningfully to another artist’s songwriting.

As he explained, he wants to work with musicians when he believes he can help them in a way they cannot already accomplish on their own. At the time, he did not believe he was the right collaborator for Swift.

Marx also addressed the idea that he might regret passing up the opportunity after seeing how successful Swift became.

“When I tell that story, [people] go, ‘Oh my God, you must be kicking yourself,” he said. “And I go, ‘No, I did the right thing. Like, I wouldn’t have been any good to her, you know?”

Swift has since become one of the world’s most successful recording artists, building a career through hit albums, major tours and songwriting that has earned her a devoted international audience.

For Marx, however, the missed collaboration is not a decision he wishes he could reverse. Rather than viewing it as a lost opportunity, he sees it as a case of recognizing that a particular creative partnership would not have been the right fit.

Ella Langley made a little girl’s dream come true at a recent concert, and fans can’t get enough of the sweet moment.

Langley’s Dandelion Tour stopped in Los Angeles last week, where the country star invited a little girl from the audience at the Greek Theatre to join her in singing “Butterfly Season.” In a fan video posted on Instagram, a security guard lifted the girl, whose name was Mallory, over the barricades and placed her on the stage. Langley knelt down to speak with Mallory, who was wearing a t-shirt with Langley’s picture on it, then encouraged the crowd to “give it up for Mallory tonight!”

“I don’t know if you’ve been enough versions of yourself to understand this, but we understand growth and exciting things, don’t we?” Langley said, addressing Mallory.

“You want to help me with this chorus?” Langley continued, after which the singer and her young fan traded singing lines of the song back and forth. When the song was over, Langley told the crowd to “give it up” one more time. Then she gave Mallory a hug and said, “That’s the most precious angel I’ve ever seen.”

Commenters on the video were quick to rave about the adorable display.

“Aww she sounds very beautiful. She’s one lucky little girl to experience such a moment like that with Ella,” one person wrote.

“How can you not love Ella? Beautiful inside and out. She’s a national treasure,” added a second fan, with a third noting, “That cute little girl will never forget this beautiful moment!”

In 1980, the magic of Led Zeppelin ended following the death of drummer John Bonham, but Robert Plant had been questioning his future with the band for three years before that. After the sudden loss of his five-year-old son Karac in 1977, the Led Zeppelin frontman felt he no longer needed the band that made him one of rock’s biggest stars.

In an October 2026 interview with The Sunday Times, Plant, 78, looked back on that heartbreaking period of his life nearly 50 years ago, when he got the call that his little boy had died from a severe stomach virus.

“Well, there was no map, no instructions to Led Zeppelin, and we just carried on,” Plant recalled of how the band handled the tragedy.

“But I didn’t need the group after losing my boy,” he continued. “These musical romances are great when everything is great. When things go left of center, who wants to sit backstage for hours and hours with people you’ve been stuck with since 1968? You’re not playing cards, you’re not going to the movies, you’re just waiting. I was always looking to get away.”

Plant once told Rolling Stone that his son’s death forced him to make changes in his life.

“I lost my boy. I didn’t want to be in Led Zeppelin. I wanted to be with my family,” he shared. “I stopped taking everything on the same day. The most important thing to me is my family and when I got off my face, I found it difficult to be all things to the people that meant a lot to me.”

At the time of Karac’s death, Led Zeppelin canceled the remainder of their tour in America, which included dates in New Orleans, Chicago, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia’s JFK Stadium.

A report from the Associated Press in July 1977 revealed that Plant immediately flew from New Orleans back to his home in England after his wife Maureen telephoned him with the tragic news.

“We were all mates. We had to give the man some space,” guitarist Jimmy Page reportedly said.

Led Zeppelin never toured the U.S. again but released two albums, 1979’s In Through the Out Door, which featured the song “All My Love” in honor of Karac, and Coda (1982). After Bonham’s death in September 1980, Plant reunited with his surviving bandmates for Live Aid in 1985, for an Atlantic Records anniversary in New York in 1988, and for a tribute concert at the O2 in London in 2007.

While the O2 concert had fans buzzing about the return of Led Zeppelin, Plant told The Times that he never expected it to be anything more than a one-off event because his Zeppelin days were done.

“That was always my plan,” he said. “The concert was nerve-racking because it could have been a shambles, and who wants that? Someone said, ‘Why does Plant turn his back on the majesty of Led Zeppelin? Why is Person A [Page] representing the power and the glory while Plant goes to bingo in the Welsh borders?’”

Robert Morin, a longtime librarian at the University of New Hampshire, quietly left his entire $4 million estate to the school after his death in March 2015. 

Known for his simple lifestyle and love of books and movies, Morin worked at the university’s Dimond Library for nearly 50 years. His unexpected gift later sparked public debate over how the university chose to spend a large part of his fortune.

Morin died on March 31, 2015, at the age of 77. He had spent decades working behind the scenes at the library, cataloging materials and helping support the university community. Few people knew how much money he had saved during his lifetime.

The university announced the gift in August 2016, surprising students, staff and others connected to the school. Morin’s will left the entire estate to his alma mater, with $100,000 set aside for specific needs at the library where he had spent most of his career, according to CNBC.

The donation was intended to support the university’s future, including student career services and library programs. However, plans to spend $1 million on a video scoreboard at the school’s football stadium drew criticism from some alumni and members of the public.

Morin was born in Nashua, New Hampshire, on Jan. 3, 1938. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire in 1961 and later earned a master’s degree in library science from Simmons College.

He began working at UNH’s Dimond Library in 1965 and remained there until 2014. His work included cataloging DVDs, CDs and music scores, helping organize the materials used by students and other library visitors.

Despite building a multimillion-dollar fortune, Morin drove a 1992 Plymouth, rarely went out for entertainment and often ate inexpensive meals at home.

His longtime financial adviser, Edward Mullen, described his daily routine in an interview with The Boston Globe. Morin would eat Fritos and drink Coke for breakfast, have a quick cheese sandwich at the library, and eat a frozen dinner at home because he had only a microwave to prepare food.

Morin’s modest spending habits helped him save a large part of his income over the years. With guidance from Mullen, he also put money into investments, including mutual funds and annuities. He purchased several life insurance policies intended to benefit the university.

Outside his work, Morin had a deep interest in reading and movies. He watched more than 22,000 videos between 1979 and 1997. He also set himself the task of reading books published in the United States during the 1930s in chronological order, excluding categories such as children’s books, textbooks and cookbooks.

The university also described Morin as someone who cared about student workers. He often sat outside the library and talked with students, showing an interest in the people around him despite his quiet lifestyle.

After retiring in 2014, Morin lived in an assisted-living center for about 15 months. During that time, he developed a new interest in football by watching games on television and learning about teams and players.

When UNH announced Morin’s bequest in August 2016, university officials said the donation would help support several important projects.

The largest planned share, $2.5 million, was set aside to launch a larger career center for students and alumni. The center was intended to help people prepare for employment and plan their professional futures.

Another $1 million was allocated for a video scoreboard at the university’s new football stadium. University officials pointed to Morin’s interest in football during the final months of his life as part of the reason for the decision.

Morin made only one specific request about how his estate should be used. He directed that $100,000 go to Dimond Library, where he had worked for nearly five decades.

According to the university, the money would provide scholarships for students working through work-study programs, help library staff continue their education in library science and pay for renovations and upgrades to a multimedia room.

The remaining money was largely unrestricted, meaning the university could decide how to use it. Morin’s financial adviser said he trusted the school to determine where the funds would do the most good.

UNH President Mark Huddleston praised the donation in a statement, saying, “Bob’s demonstrated commitment to UNH through his philanthropy is tremendously inspiring.”

He added that the gift would allow the university to address several priorities.

However, the decision to spend $1 million on the scoreboard became the most debated part of the gift. Some alumni argued that the money could have done more for students if it had been used for scholarships, research or other educational needs.

University officials defended their approach by saying the money was being used to support the school’s priorities and new opportunities. They also argued that the scoreboard could bring in advertising revenue.

Morin’s gift remained a major contribution to the University of New Hampshire, reflecting the savings he had built over a lifetime of work.

Johnny Cash’s accountant used embezzled money to buy property across the country, and Cash and his wife, June Carter Cash, made him sign all of it over. They then sold everything except one ranch in Bon Aqua, Tennessee, according to Smithsonian.

Cash bought the 107-acre ranch in 1972. “For me in ’72, it was love at first sight,” he wrote in his autobiography, Smithsonian reports. He called the farm “the center of my universe,” a place to rest, read and write songs, according to Clarksville Online. An antebellum house stood on the land, and Cash planted the magnolias in the front yard.

Cash also turned a general store on Old Highway 46 into a small venue, Clarksville Online reports. He played free “Saturday Night in Hickman County” shows there, and his daughter Cindy Cash said the family advertised them with only a poster on the door, per Artnet News.

Cash later sold the store and was turned into a recording studio, Clarksville Online said. The farm sat vacant by 2015, according to Wide Open Country, and the store was close to collapsing.

Brian Oxley, a collector of Cash memorabilia, per USA Today, had discovered Cash’s music about three years before he bought the ranch. He found a VHS tape of a 1975 show at the store, held to mark 20 years of Cash making music, Artnet News reported, and he bought the 107-acre ranch in 2015 for $895,000. He and his wife, Sally, also bought and restored the general store along Old Highway 46.

The Oxleys opened the property to the public in August 2016 as the Storytellers Museum and Hideaway Farm. The farm still held Cash’s last car and an arbor he built for his family, Artnet News said, and the museum showed guitars, letters and photographs. “We want to make this more of an experience than a museum,” Oxley said.

Just like Cash’s Bon Aqua farm, another country star’s Tennessee property also became a destination. Loretta Lynn bought a Tennessee house in 1966 and got an entire town with it.

She was joined by other future A-list celebrities, including Kathryn Newton, Willa Fitzgerald, and Jonah Hauer-King. It also included formidable actors, including Michael Gambon and Angela Lansbury, and it was adapted by Heidi Thomas, who is best known for creating Call the Midwife.

Little Women is a story about the March sisters, Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy. Set during the American Civil War, the sisters live in genteel poverty due to their father serving as a wartime chaplain, but it doesn’t stop them from living their dreams. The story takes them through young womanhood, pursuing passion, ambition, and their own happiness, although that also brings heartache and grief.

At the heart of the story is compassion. The sisters learn the values of family loyalty and self-sacrifice. It’s a timeless story that was based on some truth, with the four sisters being based on Alcott’s own life and her sisters. At first, Alcott didn’t intend to write a story about women and for women, but her own family needed the money, and so she created the fictionalized story of her own upbringing.

There is plenty of time to watch the three-episode miniseries before it leaves the streamer on Nov. 1.

Authorities in Scottsdale, Arizona are blaming the weather on a freak accident that killed a tourist on Friday, October 16. Rogério Renato Mateucci, 55, was struck by flying debris from the roof during a group walking tour of Frank Lloyd Wright‘s historic Taliesin West home.

Scottsdale police spokesperson Aaron Bolin told The Fresno Bee that debris from the roof was shaken loose due by strong wind gusts and that Mateucci, a beloved university president from Brazil, was killed instantly when a piece struck him in the head. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.

Mateucci, the rector at Pontifical Catholic University of Paraná, was visiting the famed home while in Scottsdale to participate in meetings at Arizona State University, alongside 40 other private university leaders. ASU spokesperson Jerry Gonzalez told the outlet that after the meetings ended on Friday, Mateucci went sightseeing with others at Taliesin West.

Vidal Martins, a colleague of Mateucci’s who was in town but did not take part in the tour, told The Fresno Bee that he learned of the tragedy from a co-worker who was at the scene. She called him frantically, explaining that Mateucci was bleeding heavily, but five minutes later, he said, she called back to say that efforts to save him had failed.

Martins told The Arizona Republic that the acrylic material hit Mateucci, at a “velocity” so “great” that he had no time to duck out of the way and that they believe his death was “instantaneous.”

Brazilian outlet g1 PR reported that though an investigation is ongoing, police are treating the incident “an accident related to weather conditions.” Authorities say wind gusts of up to 32 miles per hour were measured in the area on Friday.

Taliesin West has closed to the public indefinitely, according to The Modesto Bee. Wright, among the most celebrated architects in American history, established the site as his winter home in 1938 studio. The National Historic Landmark attracts over 100,000 visitors per year.

Quarterfish found themselves with a hit in the 1980’s, but the band found success with the previous track once changing it to a power ballad under a new band name.

No one expected “Harden My Heart” to climb the charts to No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 when Quarterfish re-released it as a power ballad on their self-titled debut album in 1981. This was because the track had already made the rounds at the start of the ’80s under Quarterfish’s predecessor band, Seafood Mama.

Seafood Mama broke up at the start of 1980, with married couple Marvin “Marv” Ross and  Sue “Rindy” Ross moving ahead with working on a new album with no band or band name. The album took over a year to record as the couple found new band members and came up with Quarterfish thanks to a book of Australian slang words. Their band name was in reference to how newcomers were called “one quarter flash and three parts stupid”.

“Harden My Heart” was written by Marv with no real backstory or truth behind the story told in its lyrics. Rindy sings about finding the strength and courage to leave her partner, becoming determined not to become “squishy” about it.

According to an interview with Rediscovery the ’80s, the song’s story was completely made up, and a friend gave him the title.

“A friend of mine gave me the title. I came up with the lyrics very quickly. The title came first, and I don’t really remember how the rest came about. I usually write the music and words simultaneously. It wasn’t a personal story – just made it up,” he explained.

The original track was recorded in a basement in Portland and sold thousands of copies. It also became a big reason why they were signed to Geffen Records.

“The chords are simple but voiced so as to make it sound more complex than it is. The whole song is really the groove which we called a shuffle in those days. Rindy came up with the sax line. The whole thing was written in less than a week and recorded in our basement for the Seafood Mama version,” said Marv.

The power ballad version of “Harden My Heart” was re-recorded at Record Plant in Los Angeles, with Marv once commenting that it had a better guitar solo and sound quality. Rindy’s saxophone solo also contributed to its star power and popularity, as well as her being one of the rare few female lead singers at the time.

“The sax parts usually come last. Sometimes I have a vague idea of a melody that Rindy refines, but usually it’s her creation, her melody. She has a gift for coming up with hooky, powerful sax lines,” said the songwriter.

When it comes to power ballads, Louder Sound included “Harden My Heart” on its list of greats that were the “most heart-stirring” and “most life-affirming” of all time.

Tim McGraw was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame — but it was his appearance that had fans talking.

The “Live Like You Were Dying” artist, 59, posed on the red carpet with wife Faith Hill and their daughters, Gracie and Maggie, on Sunday, October 18. He donned a dark red suit with a black bowtie and matching cowboy hat and was moved to tears while accepting his award.

“There are not enough words in my vocabulary to express the emotions during the HOF ceremony last night. The first word that comes to mind is gratitude. I am so grateful for country music and what it has given me in my life,” McGraw shared via Instagram. “Everything good in my life has come from this music we all love. I am so incredibly proud of my family, my team and my friends old and new who were on hand to celebrate the incredible experience of last night.”

He continued, “And to top it off to have Randy Owen of Alabama to be the one to induct me and put the medallion around my neck. To hear Parker McCollum, Lady A and Lainey Wilson sing my songs, I am forever thankful to them. And most importantly, to you guys, the fans. Without ya’ll, it wouldn’t even exist. So much to say. So many thank yous, so many I love yous, that I owe so many folks. I am so incredibly fortunate.”

However, fans could not help but point out McGraw’s crispy tan, as some used his own lyrics to call out the artist’s new look.

The “Don’t Take the Girl” artist became the 159th member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

It’s been a wild couple of years for Mötley Crüe frontman Vince Neil.

After suffering a major stroke on Christmas in 2024, Neil was told by doctors he might never walk again. Mötley Crüe was forced to postpone the Las Vegas residency they had scheduled for Spring 2025. But by September of that same year, Neil was back in business and the Crüe was onstage in Sin City. Now, the ’80s band has announced another Vegas residency, including eight shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace in March and April of 2027.

The band is scheduled to play eight shows at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, beginning March 19 and ending April 3.

Mötley Crüe’s S.I.N. Remaining tickets will go on sale Oct. 23.

As Neil explained during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk (per Blabbermouth), he didn’t initially realize he had a stroke when he woke up unable to move.

“It was Christmas night, and I went to sleep,” he recalled. “I woke up and I couldn’t get out of bed. I’m, like, ‘What’s going on?’ And my left leg wouldn’t work, and my left arm wouldn’t work. So I had to get help out of bed. I couldn’t push myself up to get myself comfortable in bed. And I had to have help. And slowly but surely, the sensation came back in my legs. And I had to learn to walk again.”

‘I went from a wheelchair to a walker to a cane to — I can walk now, but for five months it was just off and on, not knowing what’s gonna happen,” he continued.

“The doctor said that I probably wouldn’t be on stage again. And I was, like, ‘No, man. I can’t do that.’ And so I just tried. I worked my butt off to get back in shape to go on stage. And I was really sad to have to cancel those shows, but I just wasn’t ready yet. I wasn’t ready to be back on stage yet. It was really sad, but it’s really worth it now, ’cause I can get on stage and sing and all that good stuff.”

Two days after the death of US Airman Ian Patterson—who fell to his death before the UTSA football game on Saturday, October 17—a GoFundMe has been launched for his wife and children.

Patterson, 54, was attempting to rappel from the rafters during a demonstration in front of a stadium full of college football fans when he tragically fell to his death.

“On the evening of October 17th, what should have been a proud, patriotic, and fun experience turned into a horrific, earth-shattering event when my sister Niki Patterson and her family lost Ian Patterson in a manner no wife or child should ever have to experience,” the fundraiser states. “The details of Ian’s highly public and extremely traumatic death are still under investigation. Our hearts are broken for Niki and her two young boys following the tragic loss of Ian, a beloved husband and father whose life was taken far too soon.”

Ian and his wife, a stay-at-home mom, shared two young sons.

“Niki has dedicated herself to raising and caring for her family. Ian was their primary financial provider, and she is now facing the challenge of supporting her children while grieving the loss of her partner,” the GoFundMe continues.

The fundraiser, which has a goal of raising $70,000, explains that the funds will go towards easing “some of the financial burden of rebuilding a life without their husband and father.”

Patterson began his career as an Airman Basic in July 2011. He was a Tactical Air Control Party instructor assigned to the 6th Combat Training Squadron, Detachment 2, Joint Base San Antonio, Texas, according to Nellis Air Force Base.

“This tragedy is felt deeply across the 57th Wing,” said U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. Scott C. Mills, 57th Wing commander. “Tech. Sgt. Patterson and his service mattered immensely to our wing, and to the family, friends, and teammates who had the privilege of knowing and serving alongside him. Our team is now focused on standing beside Ian’s family, loved ones, and fellow Airmen as we navigate this profound loss together.”

As of publication, the GoFundMe has raised $50,000.
