Mark Cuban Is Convinced These Common Jobs Are Going to Disappear— Here's How to Protect Yourself
It’s no secret that the job landscape has changed dramatically over the past few years. Between the integration of AI and the subsequent mass layoffs that have happened, Mark Cuban has more bad news for working-class America.
Jobs in AmericaAccording to a report by J&Y Law, there have been 1.2 million layoffs from January 2025 until now with more on the way. As inflation continues to batter the American public, job losses at this critical time have been especially difficult.
There isn’t much hope on the horizon of an upsurge in job creation either, even as the youngest Boomers continue to retire. Many industries that once employed thousands are disappearing. Cuban recently released a list of areas he believes will either continue to see job losses or be eliminated altogether.
Here’s his full list:
- Companies that fail to integrate AI
- Legacy media
- Traditional accounting and bookkeeping
- Retail without AI or a unique experience
- Generic middle management roles
- Legacy marketing that doesn’t integrate data science
- Customer service call centers
- Standard manufacturing assembly lines
Seeing the business mogul list your current occupation can feel daunting, but there are steps you can take to help protect yourself and your future employment. Cuban’s assessment is based heavily on AI integration being necessary for businesses and therefore employees to stay fruitful. He notes that, much like when the internet was introduced, refusing the adopt new technology can leave you behind.
How to guard against job loss:
- Acquire new skills
- Change industries
- Start your own business
- Start a side hustle now
- Move
Learning new skills in AI can help keep you relevant in your own field, but you can also change industries if you don’t want to adopt the unstable tech. If you’re young enough, going into a trade like plumbing, car maintenance and repair, and electrical may be a good move.
You may also want to start your own business or buy into an already profitable one. The quiet millionaires of today own parking garages, laundromats, vending machines, and parking lots. These will always be in demand and are surprisingly profitable.
A small side hustle can give you extra cash to save or invest, while moving to an area that needs your skills may be a viable option.

It’s true that every industry will change as new technology is adopted. If you get ahead of it now, you can protect yourself against future layoffs and job insecurity.

Coastal Scientist Who Visited All 650 Public U.S. Beaches Says This One’s the Best—and It Has Year-Round Sunshine, World-Class Snorkeling, and Sea Turtles
Coastal scientist Stephen P. Leatherman—known as Dr. Beach—has been ranking America's beaches annually since 1991, and his list has become the definitive guide for serious beachgoers. This year, after assessing 650 public beaches using 50 different criteria, one Hawaiian gem claimed the top honor: Poipu Beach on Kauai.
What earns a beach the #1 ranking? According to Dr. Beach, "This family beach is known for its golden coral sand and crystal-clear water." But what really sets it apart is how the beach is actually shaped.
According to Dr. Beach, Poipu is technically two beaches separated by a narrow sandbar. This creates two distinct experiences in one location. One side features shallow, calm waters protected by the island, making it ideal for families and young swimmers. The other side opens to the Pacific, with larger waves, more suited for active water activities. You can literally walk from toddler-friendly to surfable water depending on where you stand.

The protected side is where the snorkeling shines. The water is super clear, and you can often look down and see fish at your feet. The beach has also become known as an afternoon resting spot for Hawaiian monk seals and sea turtles, two endangered species that appear regularly. Dr. Beach emphasizes the importance of observing from a distance and never disturbing them.
The sand itself is soft and coral-hued, and you're on Kauai's dry side of the island, which means consistent sunshine year-round. Don’t worry, the beach isn't remote—there are facilities, lifeguards, and nearby amenities so you're not roughing it.
Dr. Beach's evaluations are a serious affair. His 50 criteria include water quality, sand texture, wave patterns, safety features, cleanliness, environmental stewardship, and scenic appeal. He also weighs smoking policies, accessibility, and maintenance standards. It's a comprehensive approach, which is why his rankings are found newsworthy.
Hawaii and Florida dominated his top 10 this year, which tracks with his philosophy of prioritizing what he calls "swimming beaches"—places with genuinely warm water. Beautiful cold-water beaches might exist, but if you're not tempted to jump in, they don't make the cut.

8 Hyatt Hotels That Quietly Just Got Cheaper With Points
If your travel strategy relies on maximizing hotel loyalty points, the recent buzz around the World of Hyatt program has likely kept you on high alert. On May 20, 2026, Hyatt officially instituted a massive structural shift to its redemption model, shaking up how travelers calculate their vacation budgets. The news that caught everyone’s attention was a definitive devaluation: 112 properties shifted up in category, demanding a steeper pile of points for the exact same hotel rooms. On top of that, Hyatt officially retired its classic off-peak, standard and peak pricing system, replacing it with a fluid, demand-based model featuring five distinct redemption tiers: lowest, low, moderate, upper and top.
As first reported by Upgraded Points, the updates certainly sting, but the sweeping reshuffle also quietly created a few hidden opportunities at some incredible hotels. In total, 24 properties actually tumbled into cheaper point categories. Even better, a handful of these properties dropped back into Category 4 territory, making them once again eligible for World of Hyatt’s incredibly valuable Category 1–4 free night certificates. If you're looking to book a luxury summer getaway without draining your points balance, these eight properties—including several standout drops from the official list—are suddenly a steal.

The Coastal and Coastal-Adjacent Southern California DropsSouthern California hotel markets are notoriously punishing on cash wallets during peak summer periods, which is why the region's category drops are making huge waves for points collectors. The first major win highlighted by Upgraded Points is the Hyatt Centric Delfina Santa Monica, which officially slid from a Category 6 down to a Category 5. Hyatt has had a very limited presence in Los Angeles' upscale beachside neighborhoods. Because cash rates in Santa Monica easily cruise past $500 a night, the ability to book this coastal property from just 15,000 points per night under the new lowest-tier pricing represents an immense value play for a SoCal beach retreat.
Meanwhile, an unheralded standout further up the coast is Hyatt Place Santa Barbara. While remaining a Category 6 property, program analysis reveals it quietly became the single biggest winner of Hyatt's new five-tier award chart rollout. Under the old system, its standard peak dates could feel incredibly steep, but its new "lowest" demand dates plummeted all the way down to 15,000 points per night. This massive drop makes it an unprecedented sweet-spot redemption for travelers looking to secure a notoriously expensive Central California coastal escape on points.
Texas and Music City Sweet SpotsSecuring elite value in fast-growing domestic markets is a top priority for travelers, and the latest category shifts cracked open a phenomenal door right in the Lone Star State.Hyatt Centric Congress Avenue Austin quietly slipped down to a Category 4. For travelers heading south to experience the live music capital's dynamic culinary scene or downtown nightlife, dropping into Category 4 means this chic, modern high-rise is fully eligible for Category 1–4 free night certificates, presenting a major victory in a city center where premium lodging commands a steep premium.
Meanwhile, Music City enthusiasts are celebrating an equally major reward. Nashville’s hotel market has exploded in recent years, frequently commanding prices that rival New York or San Francisco. That is precisely why Dream Nashville dropping from Category 5 to Category 4 is one of the most impactful adjustments on the entire list. Located on 4th Avenue North right in the historic Printer’s Alley, this hotel sits within easy walking distance of Broadway’s honky-tonks, the Ryman Auditorium, and the Country Music Hall of Fame. Because it is back in Category 4, nights can now be secured starting at 12,000 points, but the real prize is that travelers can officially cash in their lucrative Hyatt annual free night certificates here again to dodge hundreds of dollars in peak-weekend cash pricing.

International Wins: London, Macau and SingaporeGlobal jet-setters received an equally intriguing set of upgrades. In Europe, London hotel prices are legendary for inducing sticker shock, making the downward shift of Hyatt Place London City East a vital note for summer itineraries. Slipping from Category 4 to Category 3, award stays at this hip, modern Whitechapel property now start at an astonishingly low 8,000 points per night. While located outside the heavy tourist traffic of West London, it sits steps from the Tube for effortless city exploration and boasts spacious standard rooms that can comfortably accommodate three guests.
Across the globe, the world’s largest Andaz property just became an accessible luxury anchor. The stunning Andaz Macau, nestled inside the sprawling Galaxy Macau resort complex in Cotai, dropped from Category 5 to Category 4. Now starting at 12,000 points per night and fully eligible for free night certificates, it serves as the ultimate high-end side trip for anyone visiting neighboring Hong Kong. Similarly, The Standard, Singapore has plunged into Category 4. Situated right near Orchard Road's luxury shopping corridor and the Singapore Botanic Gardens, this drop provides an incredibly affordable alternative in a notoriously pricey city where neighboring Hyatt properties like the Andaz Singapore and Grand Hyatt Singapore remain locked away at steep Category 6 pricing.

The Non-All-Inclusive Mexican Beach HideawayRounding out the list of wins is a beautiful option for travelers who want a tropical coastal escape without the rigid atmosphere of an all-inclusive resort. Hyatt Centric Playa del Carmen has officially transitioned from Category 4 down to Category 3. Situated right in the vibrant heart of downtown Playa del Carmen, the property gives guests the unique flexibility to choose between the relaxed, ocean-facing Beach House section or the high-energy Downtown House quadrant.
Surrounded by exceptional local dining, boutique shopping and quick transport to regional cenotes and Mayan archaeological sites, this family- and pet-friendly hotel is a brilliant alternative to the typical massive resort strips. Best of all, because its lowest-tier redemption rate now hits just 8,000 points per night, it is so incredibly reasonable that travelers are better off saving their free night certificates for major cities and booking this Mexican beach getaway entirely on points.

1986 Smooth-Sounding Chart-Topper Hit No. 1 Before Its Collaborators Ever Met in Person
A smooth, unmistakably ’80s chart-topper climbed all the way to No. 1 before the people behind it ever met in person, setting the stage for an unforgettable collaboration few could have predicted would become a hit.
Michael McDonald and Patti LaBelletopped the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1986 with the duet "On My Own." The song’s unexpected success only added to its legend, proving that great chemistry can happen even when the artists involved had never shared a studio session.
For 23 weeks, the song remained on the charts, becoming a long-lasting favorite among listeners. However, McDonald and LaBelle never collaborated in person on the song, lending a twist to a fascinating story about its creation.
McDonald told PEOPLE Magazine in 2024, "I was telling [Patti] just the other night how it was so funny how we hadn't met. The song was recorded, and it was out on the radio."

"We still hadn't met until we had to do The Tonight Show[months later]. That was the first time we actually met and did the song together."
The singing superstars recorded their parts separately. LaBelle laid down her vocal track first in Philadelphia, and McDonald followed up in Los Angeles. The song was written by Burt Bacharach and Carol Bayer Sager and produced by Bacharach.
McDonald believes that it was for the best that he and the legendary artist didn't face off in the recording studio. "Patti's such a formidable live performer and such an artist at improvisation. And that's pretty much her thing. I don't think she sings any song the same way twice. It's always in that moment that she's creating the melody and the feel of the song. And she's very good at it."
"Ad-libbing is not one of my favorite things because I don't know that I'm that good at it. But I was kind of happy I didn't have to go one-on-one with her in the studio and try to keep up with her at the microphone!"

McDonald used LaBelle's emotional recording as a basis for his own vocals. He admitted, "I think in the end, it really gave me some ideas on how to sing the song with her at a later date."

Costco's Colorful Patio Rug Adds a Rainbow of Boho Energy to Outdoor Spaces
Not everyone's home comes equipped with an outdoor space to enjoy, so when you have access to one in your own abode, it's pretty special. And when you accessorize that space to make it feel really inviting, well, that just shows you appreciate it. Kitting out a porch or patio doesn't have to be an expensive project. Some solar lights here, a lounge chair there and maybe a well-placed potted plant are really all you need to have a mini outdoor escape.
Well, that's not entirely true—that spot could really use an outdoor rug to pull the rest of the pieces together. Because an area rug really does anchor a space, whether indoors or out, Costco has a well-reviewed option at a great price.
Nourison Veranda Indoor/Outdoor Area Rug - Sienna, $99.99 at CostcoCostco
This seven-foot-nine-inch round Nourison Veranda Area Rug at Costco is one of those versatile pieces that can work almost anywhere, whether it's anchoring an outdoor seating area, as I mentioned above or adding color to a sunroom or entryway. The flatwoven design keeps it low-profile and easy to maintain, while the subtle high/low texture gives it a little extra dimension so it doesn't feel flat or boring.
It's made for both indoor and outdoor use, which is always a plus if you like décor that can move around with the seasons, and the polypropylene material is durable enough to handle heavy foot traffic without being fussy. The serged edge gives it a clean, finished look, and the mix of orange, green, blue and red makes it feel bright and lively. Best of all, it's easy to care for, which is exactly what most people want from a rug that's going to see a lot of everyday life.

This particular Nourison rug style has come in many different iterations over the years, but Costco shoppers seem to really love this one.
"I am absolutely delighted with this rug," says a customer in their review. "The 7'9" round size worked perfectly in my sunroom and instantly made the space feel more finished and inviting. What impressed me most is how elegant it looks. It has the appearance of a much more expensive rug and adds a touch of class without overwhelming the room. The pattern is refined and timeless, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere."
With a review like that, this rug feels hard to pass up.
‘Game of Thrones’ Star Reveals She Was in a Cult
Hannah Murray, who played Gilly on Game of Thrones, recently opened up about the time she spent in a wellness cult. When speaking with The Guardian, she explained how she met an energy healer on the set of the 2017 drama, Detroit.
The healer introduced her to a series of classes meant to help her on her journey of self-healing. “My own experience felt highly eroticized, without anything explicitly physical happening,” she said. “There was just this charge to the energy in the room. I think there often is in these hierarchical spiritual organizations. I found it interesting that it was a primarily quite female space — the teachers, the healer — and then this man walks in, and he's incredibly confident and magnetic.”

She continued, "I hear so much, 'We need to talk more about mental health.' What they mean is, like, anxiety and depression. We're all happy to talk about that. But there's such a taboo around the idea of people who are sectioned. They are beyond the pale."
Murray is telling her story because she wants everyone to know that what happened to her could happen to anyone. “I was well educated, from a middle-class family; everything should have been fine,” the retired actress said. “I thought, ‘I'm smart. I make good choices.' Well, I made terrible choices. But it's important to understand why people do these things, rather than going, ‘Oh, they must be idiots.' Or, ‘How stupid could you be?'”
She continued, "It felt really important to say, 'I went through this.’ Lots of people go through this. That doesn't mean they are bad or f---ed up forever."
Murray, 36, is releasing her autobiography, The Make-Believe, on May 28. It goes into more detail about her experience.
As the book description on Amazon says, “As the daily costs of acting grew, from the degradations of auditions to repeating violent scenes over and over, Hannah found herself searching for something to make her feel better. One day, a reiki healer promises her a new kind of treatment, a kind of magic, and all of a sudden Hannah’s life is changed.”

“This disease is inherited from my daddy,” Jackson said during a 2021 appearance on the Today Show. “There’s no cure for it, but it’s been affecting me for years.”
The condition has increasingly impacted Jackson’s ability to tour, leading the singer to announce that his current run of shows would likely be his last major tour.

Lisa Rinna, 62, Looks Like a Different Person With Shocking Platinum Blonde Hair
Lisa Rinna, known for Days of Our Lives and The Traitors, recently turned heads at a red carpet. She showed up to a Cannes event on May 21 wearing a platinum blond bouffant. She paired it with dramatic makeup, diamond jewelry, and a colorful dress. When she posted the look on Instagram, she added the caption, “Channeling the fabulous Carmen Dell'Orefice last night.”
Dell'Orefice is one of the world’s oldest working models. She appeared on the cover of Vogue for the first time at the age of 15 and is now 94.
View this post on InstagramRinna’s bold look had fans divided. One user on Reddit said, “I’m never gonna be mad at Rinna for having fun and being experimental with her fashion.” Another said, “She’s leaning into being ‘camp’ and ‘iconic’, especially after Traitors. Always trying to have a moment. I think most of the people who love her now never watched Housewives.”

The star has always been a fan of fashion. She sat down with Vogue in 2025 to discuss her earliest fashion memories and said, “I grew up in Medford, Oregon, and we used to go to San Francisco to visit my grandmother and they had an I. Magnin there. My earliest memories were shopping at I. Magnin with my mom and just being enamored by the fashion and just the beauty in the store. Then I got my first Seventeen, Mademoiselle, and Vogue when I was 16. That really then transformed me because I would get it every month and it would be my escape into that I. Magnin world that I discovered with my mom.”
She continued, “I’ll never forget, when I was in the second grade, we moved to Oregon and I was wearing this little Izod dress that was really, really short and everybody made fun of me. I’ve always worn things that were different than what everybody else was wearing. In the sense of fashion, it was cool, but it was too much for where I lived.”
Rinna released her memoir, You Better Believe I'm Gonna Talk About It, this February. In it, “Lisa peels back the curtain on her rollercoaster career and her unapologetic approach to life, dishing on the highs, the lows, and the 'did-she-really-just-say-that?' moments that made her a household name.”
Drew Carey vs. Spencer Pratt: What Did the Actor Say About the Candidate for LA Mayor?
Spencer Pratt’s bid for mayor of L.A. is getting plenty of attention. While much of it is positive, some celebs are bashing the former reality TV star’s tactics. Most recently, actor and The Price Is Right host Drew Carey posted a scathing commentary on Threads, inciting a social media meltdown.

Referring to The Hills star as “Spencer Prattfall, Carey condemned anyone who votes for or endorses Pratt, adding, “I understand being angry/unsatisfied, but at least get behind someone competent and not some serial scammer without a soul or moral compass.”
Spencer’s supporters flocked to the post to voice their opinions. One commenter wrote, “Karen is competent? She let 25,000 homes burn down and didn’t listen to warnings from aids,” and another said, “You don’t have to hate him just to prove you're liberal. How about criticizing his policies?”
What Are People Saying About Drew Carey’s Spencer Pratt Post?Redditors chimed in with their views on Carey’s statement, with comments such as, “Drew may be right, but I wish he could at least find something that would serve to differentiate the two candidates,” and, “Spencer is grifting! What Do Other Celebrities Think About Spencer Pratt?Several notable names have publicly endorsed Pratt or contributed financially to his campaign. Former The Hills reality stars Kristin Cavallari and Brody Jenner praised their pal, Paris Hiltongave Pratt props in the comments section of an Instagram post, and Katharine McPhee and David Foster reportedly hosted a fundraiser (where McPhee sang a Spencer-fied version of “Simply the Best”).
Along with these celebs, actor James Woods has seemingly backed Pratt on several occasions, writing recently on X, “Spencer Pratt may just become a populist hero. If he stays the course by following through on his goals for the city, he will. So far, he has done brilliantly. His ambitions for our recovery from the nightmare of Karen Bass are clear, sensible, and well articulated.”
But that wasn’t the first time Woods had something to say about Pratt. Last week, the actor wrote, also on X, “Man, Spencer Pratt is on fire. And that’s no pun, ladies and gentlemen.”
And then there’s the president. According to recent reports, Donald Trumpsupports the reality star candidate. While there’s no official word from the White House, Trump told reporters, “I’d like to see him do well. He’s a character. I hear he’s a big MAGA person. He’s doing well.”
25 Popular Cars Everyone Wanted in the 1970s
If you know an automobile aficionado, they've likely expressed their love for classic cars on more than one occasion. Today, many car lovers across the country regularly gather to admire each other's vehicles at collector events throughout the year. Many of the cars are inevitably from the 1970s, a decade that produced a plethora of enviable automobiles. As our Parade Rewind series continues this month, we wanted to pay homage to 25 popular cars everyone wanted in the 1970s.
When it comes to vintage cars, many of them are like fine wine: they truly get better with time. Sure, older vehicles certainly need a bit more maintenance than newer car models, but when you treat them well and give them plenty of TLC, they can last for decades.
Parade was curious to know which 70s cars made a giant splash, so we consulted three experts for their top picks for the most iconic cars of the decade.
We spoke with Terry Shea, the Marketplace Editor for Hemmings, the world's largest online collector car marketplace; AmericanMuscle Marketing Director Paul Knoll; and Robert M. Kennedy, a car collector, auto expert and author of Mustang Unbridled: The High-Octane History of Ford's Legendary Pony Car.

Which 1970s Cars Are the Most Iconic? It's hard to pinpoint a single car that defined the 1970s, but there are certainly a few that earned icon status.
"The most iconic 1970s cars were those that struck the right balance of personality and performance," Knoll tells Parade. "Muscle cars like Mustang, Camaro, Corvette, Charger and Trans Am were not merely transportation. They represented identities. At a time when design, sound and raw engine feel meant more than refinement, there was an emotional connection to them."
Two standout cars from the decade were the 1970s Ford Mustang and Bronco.
"Early in the decade, before the first downsizing occurred, the Ford Mustang established itself as one of the most recognizable models in the world," he shares. "The Bronco was one of the early 'go anywhere' SUVs. With simplicity and off-road ability, it paved the way for many other rugged and capable SUVs."
Kennedy notes that the Mustang and Bronco evolved over the course of the decade.
"In 1970, Ford's Mustang was at the top of its game, offering economical hardtops, carefree convertibles, flashy fastbacks and big-block powerhouses like the Boss 429," he states. "By 1979, not only had the big-blocks faded away, the little Mustang II had cantered in and out between fuel crises and paved the way for the all-new 1979 Fox body Mustang."
Similarly, the Bronco changed over time and grew into a "much brawnier off-road bruiser" by the end of the decade.

What Cars Did Most People Drive in the 1970s?The classic 1970s cars that collectors covet today aren't necessarily the cars that everyday people were driving at the time.
“Muscle cars got the attention of car magazines and media outlets. However, most 1970s drivers drove sedans and compact cars," Knoll tells Parade.
The car expert says popular everyday vehicles included the Ford Pinto, Chevrolet Nova, Toyota Corolla and Volkswagen Beetle.
Kennedy explains that Americans were "still largely driven by the idea that bigger was better" when it came to cars in the late 1960s. However, that shifted when OPEC announced an oil embargo against the United States and its allies in October 1973.
"It dramatically changed the public's driving habits. Gas-guzzling V8s quickly fell out of fashion and fuel-sipping four-cylinders topped consumers' must-have lists," he shares. "Big Buicks and larger-than-life Lincolns fell by the wayside as drivers hopped into subcompact Civics, Corollas, Pintos, Vegas and Gremlins. Land yachts and muscle cars began collecting dust on used car lots. And, by the dawn of the '80s, the landscape of America's roads had transformed completely."

"Thanks in part to Farrah Fawcett's character in Charlie's Angels, Americans fell head over heels for the striped and spoilered 1976-78 Mustang Cobra II," Kennedy notes. "What they might have lacked in 'go,' they more than made up for with 'show.'"
2. Ford BroncoArtur Widak/NurPhoto via Getty Images
"Rugged and utilitarian, the Bronco helped pave the way for modern-day SUVs. It was designed for off-roading and offered a lot of utility," Knoll says.
Per Kennedy, the Bronco entered the '70s as "one of America's earliest SUVs."
"It was relatively compact in size and exuded a charm in its simplicity," he explains. "By the end of the decade, it had grown into a much brawnier off-road bruiser, having traded six cylinders and small-blocks for larger 5.8L and 6.6L V8 engines."
3. Chevrolet CorvetteJohn Keeble/Getty Images
"Chevy's feisty fiberglass two-seater has been 'America's Sports Car' since 1953," states Kennedy. "And it continues to beat the best of the rest from around the world even today. But, against all odds, the Corvette's heyday was at the peak of the Malaise Era."
Knoll adds that the Corvette earned its charming nickname for its "styling, sleek designs and powerful V8 performance."
4. Plymouth Road Runner SuperbirdBlick/RDB/ullstein bild via Getty Images
"A sister car, but not quite an identical twin to the 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona, the 1970
Plymouth Road Runner was built to win on NASCAR’s super-speedways," Shea explains. "The aerodynamics might be crude by today’s standards, but the pointed nose, slick rear glass and large wing all helped improve the Road Runner’s high-speed performance."

"From 1975-1985, the 308 GTS easily emerged as the most popular Ferrari of the era. Of course, it didn't hurt that a young Tom Selleck soon slipped behind the wheel of a bright red V8-powered GTS each week in Magnum, P.I. as the '70s gave way to the '80s," Kennedy says.

"Even as Ferrari and Lamborghini continued to rely on 12-cylinders, Porsche proved that less truly could be more," Kennedy states. "First shown at the Paris Motor Show in 1974, its Turbo Carrera arrived in America for model year 1976. Based on the classic 911, but internally known as the Type 930, it was prone to violent boost-related snap-oversteer. This quickly earned it the nickname 'The Widowmaker.'"
7. Pontiac Firebird Trans AmNational Motor Museum/Heritage Images/Getty Images
"As Detroit’s engineers struggled to regain the power lost to ever-stricter emissions
regulations and fuel economy standards, they were still able to improve other aspects of
performance, such as handling and roadholding," Shea notes. "One of the best-handling American cars of the 1970s was the Pontiac Trans Am. It became an icon due to its bold, in-your-face styling, punctuated by a massive firebird decal on its hood."

"For half a century, the Eldorado represented the pinnacle of American luxury," Kennedy tells Parade. "During the 1970s alone, Cadillac sold more than 400,000 of them. But the 1976 Eldorado was among the most coveted as it became the last factory-built American convertible until the Chrysler LeBaron dropped its top in 1982."

"This outrageously styled Italian sports car was one of the first of what we would call a supercar today," Shea says. "The Countach debuted in 1974 with a 375-horsepower V12 engine mounted behind the driver. Visibility was limited, as was getting into and out of the high-sill car, even with its exclusive scissor doors. The Countach promised 180 mph speeds in an era of fuel crises, oil price spikes and cars everywhere else with lower power capabilities."
10. Ford PintoReg Burkett/Daily Express/Hulton Archive/Getty Images
"The Ford Pinto exploded onto the scene and lit the subcompact world on fire in 1970," Kennedy shares. "Despite jokes like that, the Pinto was tremendously popular, selling over three million units across its 10-year reign as America's best-selling subcompact. In fact, it outsold the Chevrolet Vega and AMC Gremlin combined."
11. Oldsmobile CutlassBarrett-Jackson via Getty Images
"Combining luxury with affordability and comfort, the Oldsmobile Cutlass became one of the bestselling vehicles of the decade," Knoll says.
12. AMC PacerNational Motor Museum/Heritage Images/Getty Images
"The AMC Pacer was all about economy. Making its appearance mid-decade, in the wake of the first fuel crisis, the Pacer sold roughly 280,000 units before 1980," Kennedy shares. "12 years later, it would find renewed fame as Wayne and Garth cruised the streets of Aurora, IL, head-banging to 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in Wayne's World."
13. AMC GremlinHulton Archive/Getty Images
"The AMC Gremlin debuted for model year 1970. Built to compete with Ford's Pinto, Chevy's Vega and a new wave of imported automobiles, the Gremlin carved a funky niche for itself. It even offered a special Levi's edition with a real denim interior," Kennedy says.
14. Lotus EspritMike Kemp/In Pictures via Getty Images
"Following Sean Connery's final turn as 007 in 1971's Diamonds Are Forever, Roger Moore picked up his Walther PPK and slipped behind the wheel of a Lotus Esprit in 1977's The Spy Who Loved Me," Kennedy tells Parade. "The film and the car were both popular enough that he returned with two more Turbo Esprits in 1981's For Your Eyes Only."
15. Toyota CorollaBarry James Gilmour/Fairfax Media via Getty Images
"Toyota's Corolla continuously evolved throughout the '70s, always keeping ahead of its competition," Kennedy explains. "It outlived the Pinto, Vega and Gremlin. It continues today, not only having outsold its chief competitor, the Honda Civic, but even having eclipsed the Volkswagen Beetle to become the world's best-selling automobile of all time."
16. Honda CivicTranscendental Graphics/Getty Images
Kennedy notes that not all popular cars of the decade were sports cars.
"Introduced in 1972, the Honda Civic arrived in America as a simple, economical, subcompact two or four-door sedan, hatchback and station wagon," he explains.
Following the fuel crisis, demand soared and "its popularity has never waned," he states.
17. Dodge Li'l Red Express Truckphotosvit/Getty Images
"By the mid '70s, muscle cars were struggling. On the other hand, pickups continued to be big business," Kennedy reveals. "So, Dodge offered buyers a Li'l Red Truck with big performance. The Li'l Red Express offered buyers a big V8, slotted mag wheels and even semi-style vertical exhaust pipes just behind its cab. It wasn't the craziest product of the '70s, but it was close."
18. Datsun 240ZLAT Images/Getty Images
"Datsun's 240Z hit American showrooms in October 1969. As the '70s progressed, Datsun's Z cars would progressively feature larger engines as the 240Z evolved into the 260Z and 280Z by 1975," Kennedy states. "By the end of the decade, Motor Trend would even name the new 280ZX its Import Car of the Year."
19. Chevrolet CamaroBarrett-Jackson via Getty Images
"The Camaro delivered aggressive styling and V8 power, putting it on equal footing [with] the Mustang. It had the long hood, short deck design that was standard muscle car fare," Knoll says.
20. Chevrolet NovaTranscendental Graphics/Getty Images
The Chevrolet Nova was a popular everyday vehicle in the '70s.
"A versatile choice for consumers, this car provided a smooth ride and great performance while also being practical," Knoll says.
21. Dodge ChargerHugh Jane Jr./The Denver Post via Getty Images
"The Charger kept the same legacy as the late '60s model, with a more sophisticated take on the classic muscle car style," Knoll says.
22. Chevrolet Monte CarloNational Motor Museum/Heritage Images/Getty Images
"The Monte Carlo combined luxury and muscle car elements into a single package to create the personal luxury coupe category," Knoll shares.
23. Buick SkylarkDenver Post via Getty Images
"This smooth-riding car offered customers comfort over high performance, but still managed to offer good value," Knoll says.
24. Chevrolet ChevelleArtur Widak/NurPhoto via Getty Images
"Available as coupes, sedans, convertibles and even station wagons, Chevrolet sold 2.5 million Chevelles from 1970-1977," Kennedy tells Parade. "By far the most popular, though, was the Super Sport. Famously packing a 450 hp 454 big-block V8 the Chevelle SS remains popular even today."
25. Jeep CherokeeDave Buresh/The Denver Post via Getty Images
"Jeep's Wagoneer was a hit when it was released [in] 1963. But when the Cherokee debuted as a sportier two-door for 1974, it quickly eclipsed its four-door forebear, eventually leading to a second-generation Cherokee that would sell 2.8 million units from 1984-2001," Kennedy shares.

Is CVS Open on Memorial Day? Here's What to Know
Memorial Day weekend often comes with last-minute errands, forgotten cookout supplies and unexpected pharmacy runs. That is why many shoppers start searching for information about CVS' Memorial Day hours ahead of the holiday. Whether the need is sunscreen, allergy medicine, snacks or a prescription refill before traveling, CVS is one of the most convenient stops during a busy holiday weekend.
CVS stores carry much more than medications. Most locations also stock groceries, beverages, household essentials, beauty products and seasonal items, making them a go-to option when larger stores are crowded or closed. Since holiday schedules can vary, shoppers should confirm details with their go-to location before heading out.

Yes, most CVS locations are open on Memorial Day. However, hours can vary by store.
In many cases, the front retail portion of the store remains open during regular business hours while pharmacy counters may close earlier than usual. Some MinuteClinic locations may also operate on reduced schedules.
Shoppers who need prescriptions are encouraged to check ahead, as pharmacy hours may differ from the retail store schedule. CVS offers an online store locator that allows customers to verify local hours and services before visiting.

What are CVS' Memorial Day Hours?CVS Memorial Day hours vary by location. Many retail stores remain open on their normal schedule, from 7 or 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., while some pharmacies and clinics may operate with modified or reduced hours for the holiday.
Some 24-hour CVS locations continue operating around the clock even during Memorial Day weekend, making them especially useful for emergency prescription pickups or late-night errands. Pharmacy counters, however, may still adjust hours even inside stores that remain open all day.
In addition to prescriptions and health products, CVS is a popular stop for holiday convenience shopping. Customers can typically find beverages, chips, condiments, paper goods and other quick essentials without making a separate grocery trip. Beauty and personal care items are also widely available, along with photo printing services at many locations.
Since schedules can differ from one city to another, checking online before leaving home is the safest option. Calling ahead can also help avoid surprises, especially for shoppers needing pharmacy assistance or MinuteClinic services during the holiday weekend.
For many customers, CVS remains one of the most reliable retailers open on Memorial Day, especially when unexpected needs arise before celebrations begin.

My Chef-Husband Cracked the Code to the Best Creamy, Tangy, Never Ever Mushy Potato Salad
Potato salad is the ultimate summer side. If you're hosting a BBQ, pool party or potluck and don't have creamy tater salad on the menu, you're doing it wrong.
I grew up loving my Aunt Maureen's version so so much. To me, there was no topping hers, and it was all because of the dressing. It was thick, luscious, tangy, mayo-based and so good I wanted to lick it straight off the spoon.
Years later, when I asked her for the secret to her potato salad, she told me Miracle Whip and pickle juice. I must admit that I almost went straight to the store to buy the sugar-laden salad dressing, but instead, I asked my chef-husband, Luke, what was in his favorite potato salad recipe.
"NOT Miracle Whip," he replied. (No shade, Aunt Mo, I still think yours is the GOAT.) "I prefer a potato salad with crème fraîche, mayo, mustard and beans—fresh fava beans or similar," he said.
Clearly, my next question was, "Can you make it for me?" Here's what happened when I followed him into the kitchen to do just that.

Kelli Venner
Given that Luke is a chef, he has an unfair advantage, ingredient-wise. He was able to get his hands on these beautiful Magic Myrna potatoes, which are a type of fingerling potato from Alaska with a creamy, buttery texture and reddish-yellow skins. If you can't find them near you, regular fingerling potatoes or baby red potatoes work too.
He also had some fresh pre-shucked fava beans from his restaurant that he added for a nice pop of freshness in the potato salad. Scallions and fresh dill were added to the mix and for the dressing, he reached mayo and mustard, along with a tub of crème fraîche (his favorite potato salad binder), cornichon pickles and some apple cider vinegar.

How to Make My Chef-Husband's Potato SaladThe first task Luke assigned me after a brief demo was peeling the potatoes, which is no small feat when the potatoes are this small! Honestly, this was the most labor- (and time-) intensive part of the whole recipe but he kept reassuring me the work would be worth it.
Peeling itty-bitty fingerlings for potato saladKelli Venner
Once the potatoes were peeled he placed them in a large pot of cold salted water. "This is how the French do it," he said, "the way I was taught."
I immediately realized I'd been making potato salad wrong my whole life, plopping the spuds into a pot of boiling salted water but Luke told me if you add them to a pot of boiling they'll absorb too much water, break down and lose their integrity—resulting in mushy potato salad. To cook the potatoes properly, he slowly brought the potatoes to a simmer for about 15 minutes, then tested them with a fork to ensure they were tender.

Then he set about chopping some scallions and dill and added this to a bowl with the fava beans. He also came back with a little container of homemade tartar sauce he found in the fridge saying that would be our base because it already had briny potato salad-worthy ingredients like capers, pickles and vinegar mixed in.

Luke added a couple more spoonfuls of mayo, mustard and crème fraîche to the tartar sauce, then gave that a mix and threw in a few douses of hot sauce for a kick.
"Only add the wet mixture once the warm potatoes are in the bowl," he tells me, "not before the potatoes go in or it will pickle the beans." After slicing the potatoes, in they went followed by the dressing.
The makings of the perfect potato saladKelli Venner
His final tip was to start light with the dressing. "You can always add more later but it's hard to make potato salad less wet," he tells me. After a few good stirs and a bit more dressing, it was finally ready.

My Honest Thoughts on My Chef-Husband's Potato SaladI'm never eating potato salad without beans again. Favas FTW! With every mouthful of creamy potatoes, there was a crisp bean pop that worked so well with the tangy dressing. I also got bits of pickles, capers and those fresh dill fronds with every enjoyable bite, making me reach for a second (and yes, a third) helping.
The best part about Luke's potato salad was that it was even better the next day, although I'm shocked we had leftovers TBH. This dish is a total Memorial Day or summer BBQ side dish flex. Show up with this elevated take on potato salad and watch as the compliments roll in.

Top Tips for My Chef-Husband's Potato Salad1. Peel your potatoes. "It's better to peel the skins off so they're more porous when the warm potatoes come out and soak up the dressing better," Luke tells me, adding that potato salad is more enjoyable to eat and has a better texture when the skins aren't slipping off mid-bite.
2. Simmer those spuds. I already touched on this one but it's arguably Luke's #1 tip when it comes to making the best potato salad and will have you winning all the potluck wars this summer. One more time for the people in the back: Start them in cold water and simmer (don't boil) your potatoes!
3. Use what you have on hand. Don't have crème fraîche? Go with a half mayo half mustard blend. Can't find fava beans? Try haricot vert, wax beans or any other fresh beans from the farmers' market. Not into dill? Microgreens, basil and cilantro also work well in potato salad. You could even throw in some hard-boiled eggs for extra protein if you like.
Gen-Xers Will Love This Nostalgic Detail About Disney's New Muppet Coaster
For 27 years, the iconic guitar neck on Sunset Boulevard pointed the way to a high-speed, late-night race across Los Angeles with the legendary rock band Aerosmith. But starting May 26, 2026, Walt Disney World is officially turning up the volume on a brand-new, hilariously chaotic era. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets is ready to launch, completely swapping out the original 1999 storyline for a fresh, multi-sensory adventure featuring pop culture's most beloved puppet band: Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.
The premise of the ride marks a brilliant return to classic Muppet storytelling. The Electric Mayhem is slated to perform a massive, one-night-only concert across town, but in true Muppet fashion, the band is running drastically behind schedule. With time ticking away before the curtains rise, the rest of the Muppets crew has to step in, stall the stadium crowd, and find a way to get the band to the stage. Naturally, the only logical solution to beat the clock is packing into a sleek, newly redesigned vehicle known as the Lengthy Immediate Motion Object (L.I.M.O.) and blasting from zero to 57 miles per hour in a matter of seconds.
"The piece that sort of helped put it all together was knowing that the Muppets had this house band, the Electric Mayhem, and that would bring the rock concert element in," shares Dani Iglesias, Creative Director at The Muppet Studio. "But in order for it to feel Muppet-y, it needed some chaos. So the idea of them being late to their concert and their friends trying to step in and stall and help and do what the Muppets do best, which is take care of each other and try to help the show move forward, gave us that little tiny piece that justified needing to go all the way across town at a very fast pace."
Inside the Nepo-Hire of G-Force RecordsWhile the core ride track and intense inversions remain intact, the physical infrastructure of the attraction's queue and pre-show spaces has been given a complete narrative overhaul. Longtime fans of the ride will notice that the iconic "G-Force Records" moniker is still permanently stamped into the studio’s architecture—but the fictional history behind the label has been hilariously rewritten to fit the Muppet universe.
According to the updated lore, G-Force Records is now owned by J.P. Grosse, the wealthy, no-nonsense uncle of Scooter who originally owned The Muppet Theatre in the classic 1970s television series. Naturally, owning the studio means J.P. put the "G" in G-Force—and he wasted no time setting his favorite nephew up with a comfortable corporate gig as the studio’s manager.
"The thing that unlocked it for us is knowing G-Force Records is literally stamped into the architecture of this building. So that was not going away," Iglesias explains. "So instead we leaned into it and we gave G-Force Records a whole new history. It's now owned by J.P., Scooter's uncle from The Muppet Theater in The Muppet Show, and he puts the G in G-force. It only made sense that if Scooter's uncle owns the record studio, of course he's going to hire his favorite nephew to sort of manage everything. So you'll also see him as employee of the month every month."

Diva Cameos and Nostalgic Easter EggsAs guests wind through the hallways of the record studio, the space doubles as a massive, interactive museum dedicated to Muppet history. The walls are lined with fictional album artwork, vintage posters and clever memorabilia that trace the decades-long legacy of the studio's recording artists. The pre-show media space itself has been entirely refreshed to rotate through five distinct storylines and tracklists, meaning the onboard musical experience will change depending on which limo you board.
The star-studded pre-show features marquee appearances from classic characters, including stage manager Kermit the Frog trying his best to handle production from the wings, and Miss Piggy stepping into the spotlight as the ultimate 1970s diva songstress a la Stevie Nicks.
"I love her because while she's trying so hard to project that she is this incredible actress diva superstar, there's a vulnerability there that she lets everybody really think that she's super famous and super glamorous," Iglesias says of Miss Piggy's role. "We can all kind of see ourselves in that aspiration. So her storyline in this is that she's stepping in to help stall for the electric mayhem until they can get there, doing what she does best, which is be magnetic."

The Unsung Hero Keeping the Chaos TogetherWhile younger riders will delight in the high-energy soundtrack and appearances by modern guest artists like Kelly Clarkson and Questlove, Gen-X fans who grew up on the original 1970s and '80s incarnations of the franchise will want to keep their eyes peeled for a deep-cut character cameo in the queue line.
Yolanda the Rat—the famously sassy, no-nonsense character who has spent decades putting up with the erratic whims of the Muppets—is officially running the day-to-day operations of the studio. While her voice echoes over the G-Force Records PA system making frantic studio announcements, eagle-eyed fans can actually see her tiny, frantic touch on the physical space around them as she sweats the details to keep it all together.
"The Muppets are not great at their jobs and that's why we love them because they're doing their best, are so determined to thrive," Iglesias shares. "But they're not always great at it. So if you're paying attention, Yolanda the rat is making studio announcements at G-Force Records and you'll also see that she's in progress in designing the museum gallery case in the queue. So you'll see little post-it notes of sort of her notes to self as she's trying to wrangle the chaos of the Muppets that are in that case. It's very silly, but just a little rat-sized tiny thing."
Ultimately, Yolanda serves as the perfect unsung hero for a ride built entirely on surviving creative pandemonium. Whether you are a die-hard Muppet enthusiast searching for hidden studio notes or a thrill-seeker ready to experience the newly remixed audio tracks, the updated attraction proves that even after nearly 30 years, Sunset Boulevard still knows how to rock.

The 4 Birth Months Who Were Born to Leave a Lasting Legacy
Contrary to popular belief, we weren’t all coded the same way or to live out the same legacy. Some of us were born to initiate, others to give continuity to other people’s work, and others to leave a fate that outlives us. The astrological imprint of every birth month gives clear insight into those of us who are meant to build something that will impact future generations. These birth months carry a specific, unique type of energy that combines two zodiac signs. While those born in these birth months often feel enormous pressure to succeed, they are also blessed with the strength to overcome even the most immense obstacles.
Read on to discover which four birth months are most likely to leave a legacy behind, according to an expert astrologer.
Which Birth Months Are Meant to Leave a Legacy? The legacy-oriented birth months are January, May, July, and December.
January: A Legacy of Free ThinkingAs the birth month most closely associated with the concept of time and the transition between “the old and the new,” January is all about adopting a fresh mindset. Uniting traditional Capricorn and futuristic Aquarius, people born in January are connected to human evolution. Ruled by Saturn, the planet of time, these individuals are tasked with preserving ancient knowledge while opening the door for new ideas to be born.
The legacy of these strong and intelligent individuals is a commitment to free thinking, because without it, positive change can’t occur. Far from easy, their legacy journey involves returning to core principles while challenging themselves intellectually. The resistance they often feel to adopting new ways of thinking comes from their inclination to honor their roots. But once they can objectively distinguish the useful from what feels irrelevant, they play the role of intellectual free thinkers who encourage others' evolution.
EXPAND: The 4 Birth Dates That Are Destined for Karmic Relationships
May: A Legacy of ConnectionWhat would the world be without connection? Thankfully, May-borns have the task of avoiding that from ever happening! Combining communicative Gemini with stable and reliable Taurus, this is the birth month that creates the channels for information to be shared, absorbed, and fully processed.
Individuals born in May love to communicate with others in a wide variety of ways, via their words as well as artsy creations. They fully understand that connection isn’t just about speaking—for them, true connection involves engaging all the senses. In many ways, their legacy is about bringing awareness to the sacred link between the mind and the body. It is when honoring this link that we can fully connect with others, our environment, and even the messages our soul sends our way. While the legacy of those born in May may be invisible and intellectually abstract, it is infused in our everyday lives and experiences.

July: A Legacy on AncestryNostalgic and captivating, July is a profound month that is all about getting in touch with our deepest feelings. Bringing together the Moon-ruled sign of ancestry (Cancer) and the keeper of light (Leo), July natives often focus on illuminating the past. People born in this month feel intensely and passionately, often reminding others of the legacy left by those who have passed but are still with us in spirit.
They're living reminders that without those who paved the way, we wouldn’t be where we are today. People born in July are strongly connected to their lineages and often build on what their ancestors created. They often follow their family’s path and provide continuity to their life's work without feeling like they are missing out. By preserving ancient knowledge, they pave the path towards a brighter, more connected future for those who come after them.

December: A Philosophical LegacyMany history books may have been written by December natives! Bringing together philosophicalJupiter and diligent, Saturn-ruled Capricorn, December is a birth month of big ideas and strong will. People born in December are old souls whose wisdom centers on approaching subjects no one has even thought to ask about. These fascinating individuals are aware of themes that are universal, ancient, and applicable to the collective.
How did society develop a certain way, and how can it function better? Only a December Sagittarian or Capricorn may begin to passionately answer such a question. Their legacy—connected to knowledge, ethics, morals, and culture—is about the transmission and preservation of ideas and concepts. Spending time with a December-born is never boring, as they are all walking encyclopedias who take their role of teachers and mind expanders quite seriously!

‘70s Music Icon, With 2 No. 1 Hits Including Duet, Turns 82
Patti LaBelle is celebrating a big birthday. The music icon, known as the Godmother of Soul, turns 82 years old today. LaBelle was born on May 24, 1944, in Philadelphia, PA. She shot to fame in the 1970s as part of the trio Labelle and later became known for her work as a solo artist.
The group LaBelle hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with the massive disco hit “Lady Marmalade” on March 20, 1975. The song, known for its suggestive French lyrics, made Labelle one of the hottest girl groups of the era. LaBelle scored a spot on the cover of Rolling Stone, where they became the first Black vocal group on the front of the famous music magazine.
“We were groundbreaking, and it was an honor,” LaBelle told The Guardian in an interview. “It was showing other Black women that they could do it. But we weren’t trying to break a record, we were just being Labelle.”
A decade later, Patti LaBelle hit No. 1 again with "On My Own,” her love ballad duet with Michael McDonald. The singer LaBelle also had hits with the songs “Only You Knew,” “New Attitude,” and more.
LaBelle has been called a music diva and a legend. She once told Oprah Daily she preferred to be known as “OG…Original gangster.” She also revealed she had an alter ego named Priscilla.
“She is a mess,” LaBelle told the outlet. “I am a Gemini; I have so many personalities. I never know when she's going to show up and show out, and a lot of times, she shows out—and then, the next day, I feel bad for the person who had to deal with Priscilla, because she's a witch with a capital B, and I can't help it.”

LaBelle has embraced aging, even in the competitive music industry. She celebrated her 81st birthday last year with a show at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, as part of the Queens Tour, with fellow R&B legends Gladys Knight, Chaka Khan, and Stephanie Mills.
According to People magazine, LaBelle told the concert crowd, “I have so many people who are afraid to say how young they are. Don't be scared. 81 is wonderful, okay?"
The singer began to cry as she looked back on her career alongside her fellow female legends. "We are such hardworking women," she said. "I've been doing it for 65 years, and to still have people come to see our show, we are truly blessed."
As for her biggest career highlight, LaBelle told Philadelphia magazine it came during a special performance in the mid-1990s. “I once sang ‘Over the Rainbow’ for Coretta Scott King, and I gravitated — I was flying,” LaBelle shared. "I don’t know what happened. It was a moment that I could never explain. I literally flew.”
