We Asked 3 Cardiologists About the Best Breakfast for Heart Health and They All Said the Same Thing

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 9:50am

Is the way to your heart your stomach? To an extent, yes. Diet is a crucial component of a heart-friendly lifestyle. What you eat for breakfast is especially important for your heart, both that day and in the long term.

"Understanding how breakfast can affect heart health is important," states Dr. Lars Sondergaard, MD, a cardiologist and the chief medical officer and the divisional vice president of Abbott's structural heart division. "It allows you to actively choose foods that reduce risk factors like high cholesterol, high blood pressure and inflammation, rather than contributing to them."

He adds that this knowledge can help you adopt simple daily habits that lower your long-term risk of developing cardiovascular disease.

"Regular breakfast consumption is a powerful preventive measure by stabilizing metabolism, improving nutrient intake and managing key heart disease risk factors," Dr. Sondergaard says.

He also points out that skipping the first meal of the day is linked to obesity, high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes and poor cholesterol levels. Another cardiologist agrees—breakfast is an important meal to eat each day.

"Breakfast sets the tone for the day," says Dr. Karishma Patwa, MD, a cardiologist with Manhattan Cardiology in NYC and labfinder.com contributor. "Choosing a heart-healthy breakfast allows you to start your day off right. Over time, this influences long-term blood sugar and cholesterol levels."

That said, some breakfasts are better than others. For instance, cardiologists generally leave red and processed meats off their menus.

"When watching your heart health, ditch the bacon, sausage and ham," advisesDr. Patrick Kee, MD, Ph.D., a cardiologist, Vital Heart & Vein. "These meats are consistently associated with increased heart disease risk due to their high sodium and saturated fat content."

Other breakfasts are staples in cardiologists' homes, especially one that three cardiologists agree is heart-healthy and delicious.

The Best Breakfast for Heart Health, 3 Cardiologists Agree

Three cardiologists agree that steel-cut or rolled oats with berries and topped with Greek yogurt is one of the best heart-healthy breakfasts you can eat.

Dr. Kee describes fiber-filled oats as a "gold standard for cardiovascular health, and berries as "colorful powerhouses" of antioxidants. He loves low-fat or fat-free Greek yogurt for its protein and probiotics, which support appetite and metabolic health.

Below, cardiologists dug into each component of their top pick for breakfasts for heart health.

Rolled or steel-cut oats can lower cholesterol and blood sugar

"Both steel-cut and rolled oats are great for heart health because they are made from the same whole grain, retaining the nutrient-rich bran, germ and endosperm," Dr. Sondergaard says.

He points to the beta-glucan, a soluble fiber that forms a gel-like substance. He explains that beta-glucan binds to cholesterol and bile acids, preventing them from entering your bloodstream.

"This effectively lowers your LDL—'bad'—cholesterol levels by preventing plaque buildup in your arteries," Dr. Sondergaard says. "That same gel-like consistency also slows down the digestion and absorption of carbohydrates. This means a more gradual release of glucose into your bloodstream, which helps keep blood sugar levels steady."

Stable blood sugar is crucial for overall cardiovascular health and reducing the risk factors associated with heart disease. "Oats also contain unique antioxidants called avenanthramides, which help reduce chronic inflammation, a major driver of arterial plaque buildup," he adds.

Berries are the bee's knees for heart health

Mother Nature's candy sure does provide sweet benefits to your cardiovascular system.

"Berries are packed with micronutrients, including vitamins and antioxidants," Dr. Patwa says. "They also contain a considerable amount of fiber. Over time, this lowers inflammation and improves blood vessel function, which can reduce the risk of high blood pressure and cardiac events."

Greek yogurt is a sneaky-good food for the heart

We often think of probiotics in Greek yogurt as beneficial for the gut, and that's true—but they also benefit the heart. Dr. Sondergaard encourages people to think about the "heart-gut axis."

"A healthy gut microbiome, fostered by probiotics, is linked to reduced systemic inflammation," he says. "Chronic inflammation is a known contributor to atherosclerosis—the hardening of the arteries—and other heart issues."

He adds that some probiotic strains may help lower LDL cholesterol by "influencing its absorption and metabolism in the gut." What's more, Greek yogurt contains protein (which helps regulate your appetite and weight) and blood-pressure-regulating minerals (calcium and magnesium).

3 More Great Breakfasts for Heart Health

Oatmeal with Greek yogurt and berries is a heart-healthy breakfast. Yet if it's not your jam or you like variety, cardiologists say you have options. Here are a few more breakfasts sure to make your heart, tastebuds and belly sing.

1. Whole-grain avocado toast with poached eggs

Dr. Sondergaard says this breakfast is a great balance of healthy fats avocados), protein (eggs) and complex carbs (whole-grain toast). Combined, they help stabilize blood sugar, lower cholesterol, regulate blood pressure and improve satiety and weight management. Your taste buds won't complain either.

2. Chia seed pudding with walnuts

Dr. Sondergaard says that this breakfast is versatile, which is why it's one of his favorites. "It requires minimal effort and provides an omega-3 powerhouse that supports heart rhythm and blood flow," he says.

Chia seeds and walnuts are plant-based sources of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a type of omega-3 fatty acid that can help "reduce inflammation, lower triglyceride levels and may even gently lower blood pressure."

"Beyond that, chia seeds are exceptionally rich in soluble and insoluble fiber, providing similar benefits to oats in terms of cholesterol reduction and blood sugar stability," Dr. Sondergaard explains. "Their ability to absorb liquid and form a gel not only makes for a satisfying pudding but also contributes to that crucial gut-healing, cholesterol-binding action."

3. Vegetable omelet with olive oil

Dr. Kee loves the idea of throwing the veggies you have on hand in with some eggs and cooking them in olive oil. He says replacing butter with extra virgin olive oil is a simple way to lower your risk of major cardiovascular events (like a heart attack and stroke).

3 Tips for Building a Heart-Healthy Breakfast

Whether the above suggestions may appeal to your taste buds or not, you can use these tips when crafting a heart-healthy breakfast menu.

1. Find foods with fiber

Dr. Sondergaard says soluble fiber (oats, berries and smart seeds) helps stabilize blood sugar, reduce cravings (and overeating) and lower cholesterol.

2. Opt for lean, high-quality protein sources

Think Greek yogurt, eggs, nuts and seeds, rather than bacon and sausage.

"Protein keeps you feeling satiated and works together with fiber to stabilize blood sugar, ensuring a smooth, consistent energy flow without taxing your arteries," Dr. Sondergaard says. "By choosing smart protein, you're fueling your body, fortifying against cravings and contributing to healthier weight management."

3. Make room for monounsaturated and omega-3-rich foods

Avocado, walnuts and chia or flax seeds all fit this bill.

"Monounsaturated fats work diligently to lower harmful LDL cholesterol, while the omega-3s have anti-inflammatory properties, ensuring your blood vessels remain supple and resilient," Dr. Sondergaard says.

He adds that these fats can help your body better absorb fat-soluble vitamins that improve your cardiovascular health.

Ella Bleu Travolta, 26, Daughter of John Travolta and Kelly Preston, Is an Absolute Red Carpet Stunner

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 9:40am

Ella Bleu Travolta, the daughter of John Travolta and the late actress Kelly Preston, is an absolute stunner on the red carpet.

John Travolta is a film legend with diverse roles ranging from Pulp Fiction and Saturday Night Fever to Grease and Look Who's Talking under his belt. Preston, who appeared in over 60 films and television shows, died in 2020 at age 57, two years after she was diagnosed with breast cancer. But her memory lives on in her daughter, whose stunning looks resemble her mother's beauty.

Ella Bleu hit the red carpet at the Fashion Trust U.S. Awards 2026 at Nya Studios West this week in Los Angeles, California, and made it clear that you don't have to show a lot of skin to be alluring. Her head-to-toe black look featured tiny black flowers that cascaded upward to her neck, while her hair was done in a chic updo.

Ella Bleu Appears in Her Dad's Directorial Debut

Back in February, the Cannes Film Festival announced that John Travolta would bring his directorial debut, Apple Original Films’ Propeller One-Way Night Coach, to the festival. But in a unique twist, his daughter will appear in the film as a flight attendant.

A synopsis of the film on the Cannes website describes the film, which is based on Travolta's 1997 book of the same name.

"Young airplane enthusiast Jeff (newcomer Clark Shotwell) and his mother (Kelly Eviston-Quinnett) set off on a one-way cross-country odyssey to Hollywood, which transforms a simple flight into the trip of a lifetime," reads an official synopsis for the movie. "Between airline meals, charming flight attendants (played by Ella Bleu Travolta and Olga Hoffmann), unexpected stopovers, larger-than-life passengers, and a thrilling glimpse at first class, the journey unfolds in moments both magical and unexpected, charting the course for the boy’s future."

These Celeb Moms Opened up About Post-Baby Body Insecurities

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 9:26am

Celebrity parents, they’re just like us. Even though they have stylists to dress them in the hottest haute couture and full glam squads to make them over before every red carpet event, they also struggle with postpartum body insecurity issues. And now two superstars are speaking out about their post-baby struggles.

Earlier this week, actress and TV host Drew Barrymoregot real on the set of her self-titled The Drew Barrymore Show. The former child star, who grew up in the spotlight, has two children with ex-husband Will Kopelman: Olive (born September 2012) and Frankie (born April 2014).

During a makeover segment, Barrymore discussed body image with a guest who recently lost 75 pounds. In a tearful admission, the famous mom said, “I so related. I really did. The other day I was walking down the street, and I’ve had two C-sections, and I’m so wrecked down there that I permanently just I can’t wear a lot of different types of pants. But the other day I was walking around, and I had this shorter shirt on, and I couldn’t keep my jacket closed, and I’m like walking around, and I was like, I don’t want anyone to see this.”

Barrymore continued, “And I just like, I so get when you have kids, and you have a busy life, and your body changes, and you get older, and things just aren’t the same. And just hearing your story, I just thought of how I felt two days ago walking down the street on a Sunday with my daughter.”

When speaking with her guest’s teenage daughter, Barrymore took a more optimistic view of her postpartum body, “You know what my daughter does? She encourages me to dress differently. And a lot of the time I feel really good.”

Drew isn’t the only Hollywood A-lister to have post-pregnancy problems. Earlier this week, actress Vanessa Hudgens shared a very real Instagram post, “That moment in post partum where your pants finally fit again.”

View this post on Instagram

Fans and friends chimed in, commiserating with their own experiences. Actress Samantha Hanratty wrote, “I think I cried when it finally happened. Some will never fit again tho,” and fellow former Disney star Aly Michalka added, “Oh man! Such a moment!”

Baby weight gain isn’t the only new mommy issue Hudgens has dealt with. The actress recently posted a photo to her Instagram Stories of her hand covered in loose hair, with the words, “And so it begins.” The mom to two (Hudgens has a son born in 2024 and a daughter born in 2025 with husband, former MLB player Cole Tucker), also revealed, with a not-so-subtle sarcasm, “Having a great hair day even with my hair loss lol.”

1953 Country Hit Ranked Among 'Greatest Songs of All Time' Released After This Singer's Death

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 9:23am

Whether you’re a country fan or not, a 1953 track by Hank Williams has reached generations of listeners since its release. The song went on to become a timeless staple, widely regarded as one of the greatest ever recorded, and saw its popularity soar following the singer’s death.

"Your Cheatin' Heart" has quit the story behind its creation and is tagged as a well-known country breakup anthem. The track became Williams' last ever recording and popular hit before his tragic death on Jan. 1, 1953, with the song being released shortly after. At the time, Williams was already at the top of his success with hits like "Honky Tonk Blues", "Half as Much", "Settin' the Woods on Fire", "Jambalaya (On the Bayou)", and "You Win Again."

Behind the music, Williams was going through issues in his marriage to musician Audrey Sheppard. The country singer was also facing his own issues, being an alcoholic and becoming addicted to morphine due to spina bifida. On May 29, 1952, the couple divorced, and Williams met Billie Jean Jones. After Jones ended her relationship with country singer Faron Young, the couple started dating and began planning their wedding.

It appeared that Williams' prior marriage still left an impact on him, as he came up with "Your Cheatin' Heart" while driving to Jones's parents' house to announce their marriage plans. The title for the track came about when the country singer described his ex as a "cheating heart" and dictated the song to Jones while on the road.

Related: 1969 Chart-Topping Track Won an Oscar For ‘Best Original Song’ 56 Years Ago Today

The track was recorded in late September of that year, with Williams having commented, "It’s the best heart song I ever wrote." Rolling Stone ranked it as one of the "best songs of all time." Sadly, the country hit gained popularity due to Williams' death before its release. On the road toward Ohio for a scheduled New Year's performance, Williams' driver found the singer dead in the back seat during their stop in West Virginia.

"You Cheatin' Heart" was released the very same month of his death and topped Billboard's Country & Western chart for six weeks. Many believed the song solidified Williams as a haunting figure who could express the theme of pain with authenticity and became a staple in country music. After the track's release, it was covered by Joni Jones and Frankie Laine in 1953. George Hamilton IV also entered the Billboard Hot 100 charts with his cover in 1958, with Ray Charles covering the track in 1962.

Ready-to-Drink Growth Is Shifting Toward Hard Tea

Hard seltzers helped kick off the ready-to-drink boom, but growth across the category has started to shift. According to IWSR data cited by The Spirits Business, hard tea was the fastest-growing RTD subcategory between 2019 and 2024, with a 30% CAGR in value and 26% by volume, albeit from a smaller base. Hard seltzers followed at 21% in value and 16% by volume over the same period, even as sales cooled from their 2021 peak.

Sun Cruiser comes from the Boston Beer Company, the group behind brands like Samuel Adams, Truly, and Twisted Tea, which has been a major player in the ready-to-drink space as it continues to expand beyond beer.

As these roll into more stores, it’s an easy one to grab for summer get-togethers, beach days, or anything where you want something cold, simple, and ready to go.

Rob Rausch Thinks Every Household Should Have a 'Fridge Knife'

In fact, the reality show's host Alan Cumming called Rausch "the best traitor" the show has ever had.

Rausch's stellar and selfish (complimentary) performance really shouldn't come as a surprise, considering the Alabama native's background as a professional snake wrangler and all-around outdoorsman. In fact, Rausch recently shared one of his best tips for self protection at home, and it comes in the form of a "fridge knife." Read on for the details.

Rob Rausch Always Keeps a "Fridge Knife" at the Ready

In a recent interview with Bustle, Rob Rausch was asked if there's anything he's tried to "evangelize" his friends to do. His reply? "Everybody should have a fridge knife," he told the outlet. "It’s a large — typically a bowie — knife that you put on top of your fridge."

A bowie knife is kind of like a mini sword: it has a guard between the blade and the handle to protect your hand, as well as sheath to keep the knife covered when not in use.

"It makes me feel safe, you know?" Rausch explained. "Once you get used to having a knife on top of the fridge, you’re like, OK, well, at least I have my fridge knife. You watch a scary movie, you’re like, Well, I have my fridge knife. It’s just a sense of security you can’t match."

View this post on Instagram Rob Rausch Just Really Likes Knives

On top of the safety and self-defense reasons, it seems like Rausch just loves knives.

"You probably will never use it," he told Bustle, further elaborating on the fridge knife. "But I can’t tell you how many times I’m like, Man, I just want to hold my fridge knife. I’m gonna go hold my knife a little bit, swing it around a couple times, put it back on the fridge."

He also shared: "I’ve never been gifted a knife and not smiled ear to ear. My dad did give me a really good knife for Christmas."

In an interview with The Cut in February, conducted over pancakes at at Malibu's Surfrider Hotel, Rausch also got to show off his love for knives. According to the article, Rausch started "spearing [pancakes] into his mouth with a knife after dropping his fork on the floor."

Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes' Business Gets Good News Less Than 1 Year After Opening

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 9:08am

Less than a year after launching their high-end steakhouse, Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes are already seeing strong support from the community.

Their restaurant, 1587 Prime, recently shared a major milestone: earning multiple nominations in a popular local awards event.

On Instagram Story, the restaurant announced: "Nominated & grateful Kansas City. We're truly honored to be nominated for the 2026 Kansas City Favorites via the KC Star in the following categories: Fine Dining | Steak | Wine Selection Specialty Cocktails. Thank you to the community for welcoming us, and to everyone who has joined us at the table."

The recognition comes as a big win for the Kansas City Chiefs stars, who only brought the concept to life recently.

Located in the heart of Kansas City, 1587 Prime was designed to stand out among top-tier steakhouses. The restaurant aims to match some of the best dining experiences in the world, focusing on quality, detail and a bold atmosphere inspired by the city itself.

The name “1587” comes from the jersey numbers of Mahomes (15) and Kelce (87), tying their football legacy directly into the brand. Built in partnership with Noble 33, the concept blends luxury dining with a personal touch from the NFL duo.

The early nominations suggest that the concept is connecting well with locals. Being recognized in categories like fine dining and specialty cocktails shows the restaurant is not just popular, it is competitive across multiple areas.

The success of 1587 Prime comes at a time when both Kelce and Mahomes remain major figures on and off the field.

Kelce, a future Hall of Famer, is preparing for his 14th NFL season in 2026. Despite questions about retirement after the 2025 season, he chose to return, saying he was motivated and ready to compete again.

Mahomes, meanwhile, is working his way back from a serious knee injury suffered late in the 2025 season. The Chiefs quarterback is still expected to be the centerpiece of the team moving forward, with optimism around his recovery for the 2026 season.

Their partnership has already proven successful on the field, helping lead the Chiefs to multiple Super Bowl wins.

For now, the recent nominations serve as proof that the venture is off to a strong start. Less than a year in, 1587 Prime is already making noise and Kelce and Mahomes are showing they can win in business just like they do on the field.

Nestlé Toll House may be best known for its famous chocolate chip cookie recipe, but in the 88 years of the sweet treat's existence, the company has found other ways to stay relevant.

Sometimes it simply repurposes its original cookie dough recipes with contemporary twists, promoting uses like chocolate chip cookie "tacos," drops modern flavors, or adds a festive colored candy like M&M's to make seasonal releases more fun.

Now, following the successful release of its football-shaped chocolatey morsels this past fall, Nestlé is hoping for another win with its new limited-edition Milk Chocolatey-Flavored Soccer Ball Morsels andToll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with Soccer Ball Morsels.

"At Nestlé Toll House, our focus is building baking traditions that fit the culture of the moment, creating meaningful, memorable food experiences that meet people where life and celebration are happening,” Kate Boeding, senior director of marketing at Nestlé Toll House, explained in a statement on Thursday.

"Soccer is one of those moments. It’s a time of passion and shared celebration," Boeding added, noting the new releases aim to bring "the spirit of the game right into [fans '] kitchens"—and just in time for the World Cup, imagine all the festive flair you could add to your desserts!

Nestlé Toll House Kicks off Spring With 2 New Soccer-Inspired Treats

The new Nestlé Toll House Milk Chocolatey Flavored Soccer Ball Morsels are soccer ball-shaped, milk-chocolate-flavored morsels ideal for decorating soccer-themed cupcakes, cookies, and even topping on ice cream (because why not).

Although a detailed ingredient list was not immediately available, an official description shared in the April 2 press release states that these morsels are designed to retain their signature soccer ball shape even when baked, presumably with an added stabilizer such as palm oil. It does not appear to be the same recipe as the brand's classic Milk Chocolate Morsels, which are advertised as "100 percent real chocolate," not milk chocolate-flavored, but more in line with the recipe used for its Football Morsels that reviewers called "perfect," "cute and delicious," praising its "smooth milk chocolate taste."

The same can be said for the bits of sweet, milk chocolatey goodness found in the new Nestlé Toll House Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with Soccer Ball Morsels. The ready-to-bake cookie dough offers a "fresh take" on the original chocolate chip cookie with its white candy, soccer-ball-shaped morsels, for "a celebratory, sporty treat" that can easily be customized with sprinkles that match your favorite team's jerseys.

Where Will Nestlé Toll House's New Chocolatey Soccer Ball Morsels and Cookie Dough Be Available?

Both soccer-inspired Nestlé Toll House products are said to be rolling out at retailers nationwide this month.

Shoppers should expect to find the limited-edition Soccer Ball Morsels in the baking aisles at stores that carry other Nestlé Toll House products (Giant, Hy-Vee, Stop & Shop, Target, Walmart, etc.) for a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $5.79 per nine-ounce bag. The new Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough with Soccer Ball Morsels can be found in the refrigerated section alongside other ready-to-bake Nestlé cookie doughs for about $4.99 per 14-ounce package, which yields 20 cookies (prices may vary).

Geena Davis, 70, Looks Like a Grecian Goddess on the Red Carpet 35 Years After ‘Thelma & Louise’

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 8:57am

Geena Davis rarely hits the red carpet, but when she does, she packs a punch.

Davis, 70, rose to stardom in films like Beetlejuice and The Accidental Tourist, for which she won an Academy Award. She later became instantly identifiable thanks to roles in Thelma & Louise and A League of Their Own, and even tackled television with her role in Commander in Chief. Behind the scenes, Davis launched the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, which works to increase the presence of female characters in media. Not one to hit the red carpet regularly, the beauty made an appearance this week at the Fashion Trust U.S. 2026 Awards at Nya Studios in Los Angeles, California. Wearing a blue-green gown that made her look like a Grecian goddess, Davis looked every bit the movie star we know and love her to be.

Nancy Guthrie News: Detective Worries She Had Medical Emergency During Kidnapping Ordeal

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 8:40am

A new perspective is emerging in the case of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, as Brian Martin, a detective with the Fort Wayne police department, suggests Guthrie's kidnappers may have underestimated her health in the days surrounding her disappearance. The insight adds another layer of complexity to an already troubling investigation, raising questions about whether those responsible fully understood her condition—and how that may have impacted what happened next.

During a sit-down with NewsNation's Brian Entin, Martin shared his take on what he thinks likely happened—and the motive behind the apparent kidnapping.

"What really bothers me is we're dealing with an elderly female, who's not living, by all accounts, she's not living an at risk lifestyle. It would appear to me that this is potentially driven by something monetary. They were hoping to get some kind of monetary reward or gain from doing this. That bothers me," Martin told Entin.

"And what really bothers me is that they underestimated Ms. Guthrie's health," Martin continued. He goes on to speculate that the kidnappers probably thought they'd hold on to Guthrie for a couple of days, get their money, and then "leave her in a Walmart parking lot."

Martin says that what "scares" him is that Guthrie had some sort of health-related emergency during the "incredibly stressful" ordeal.

Guthrie, 84, has been missing since Sunday, Feb. 1. Her family has said that she wasn't in great health. Guthrie had a pacemaker and took blood pressure medication as part of her daily routine.

51 Years Ago Today, Iconic Sequel Won Best Picture at the Oscars

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 8:24am

Fifty-one years ago today, a sequel changed Hollywood forever. The Godfather Part II, directed by Francis Ford Coppola, won Best Picture at the Academy Awards, becoming the first sequel in film history to take home the top prize.

The landmark victory at the 47th Oscars in 1975 proved that follow-up films could be just as powerful, and even more ambitious, than their originals.

Released in December 1974, the crime epic quickly became a cultural force. It earned 11 Oscar nominations and won six, including Best Director for Coppola and Best Supporting Actor for Robert De Niro. Today, it is still widely seen as one of the greatest films ever made.

The Godfather: Part Ii, poster, Robert De Niro, 1974.

Unlike most sequels of its time, The Godfather Part II did not simply continue the story, it expanded it in a bold new way. The film tells two stories at once. One follows Michael Corleone, played by Al Pacino, as he leads the Corleone family in the late 1950s.

The other shows the early life of his father, Vito Corleone, portrayed by De Niro, from his childhood in Sicily to his rise in New York.

This dual timeline was a risky move, but it paid off. Director Coppola once explained his vision, saying he wanted to show “the ascension of the family under Vito Corleone with the decline of the family under his son Michael.” That creative choice gave the film emotional depth and helped set a new standard for storytelling in cinema.

The movie also featured a strong ensemble cast, including Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton and Talia Shire. Together, they brought to life a story about power, family and betrayal that still resonates today.

At the 1975 Academy Awards, The Godfather Part II made history. It became the first sequel ever to win Best Picture, an achievement that still stands out decades later. It also earned awards for Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Original Score, composed by Nino Rota.

The film’s success was not just about awards. It was also a box office hit, earning around $93 million worldwide on a $13 million budget. While it did not surpass the original film’s earnings, it became Paramount Pictures’ highest-grossing movie of 1974.

In 1997, the American Film Institute ranked it among the greatest films in U.S. history, and it was later preserved in the National Film Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

The film also boosted the careers of its stars. De Niro’s Oscar-winning performance as young Vito Corleone became a defining moment in his career. Meanwhile, Pacino’s portrayal of Michael is still seen as one of the greatest performances in film history.

More than five decades later, the movie’s themes remain powerful. It tells a story of success and loss, showing how the pursuit of power can break even the strongest families.

Major Jenna Bush Hager News Accidentally Slips Out on 'Today'

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 8:21am

A surprising bit of news slipped out on Today when Craig Melvin appeared to casually reveal that Jenna Bush Hager has a cameo in The Devil Wears Prada 2. The moment, which unfolded during this morning's live segment, quickly caught viewers’ attention as Melvin seemingly let the detail slip before it had been officially announced, sparking excitement and curiosity about Hager’s role in the highly anticipated sequel.

While discussing the highly anticipated new movie, set to hit theaters on May 1, Melvin revealed that Bush Hager has a part in the film.

"By the way, you know how that movie’s going to be good? You know how I can tell? JBH is in it," Melvin said on air. The cameras then panned to Hager, who looked genuinely surprised.

"I don’t know that you were supposed to drop that bomb..." she replied.

“This is live. You cannot tell Craig anything," Savannah Guthrie joked.

"I thought it was common knowledge!" Melvin said, to which Al Roker replied, "It is now!"

Bush Hager didn't share any further details about her apparent cameo in the film, and it's unclear how big of a role she has.

The Devil Wears Prada sequel was first announced in July 2024. Much of the original cast, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt, will reprise their roles in the film, which is being released 20 years after the original.

I’ve Stayed at All of the Best Hotels in St. Barth and These 7 Are Truly Worth Booking

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 8:10am

There are islands you visit for beaches, and then there’s St. Barth, where the hotel practically defines experience.

I’ve stayed at all seven of these properties over my many trips there over the years, some on romantic escapes, some on research trips, some simply because I needed to desperately unplug somewhere beautiful. What makes St. Barth different from other Caribbean destinations is that the island knows exactly what it is. It doesn’t try to be all-inclusive or overly produced. It’s intimate, polished and chic, luxe with a casual feel, and always relaxed if you know where to stay.

Rates tend to peak during the winter high season, especially around the holidays or what’s known as Festive Season. But prices become more friendly in April and May, both of which are some of my favorite times of the year to visit. The weather is still spectacular, the island feels less intense, and reservations are easier to secure. St. Barth has also quietly become more of a year-round destination than it once was, with many travelers now visiting in the summer for even better value and a softer energy.

As a seasoned travel writer who’s visited the island countless times, I also know that each hotel has its own unique vibe; so if you’re planning a trip, these are the hotels I genuinely recommend depending on what kind of experience you’re looking for.

Best Overall Resort: Rosewood Le Guanahani St. Barth

Courtesy of Rosewood Le Guanahani St. Barth

If you want a hotel that will please everyone, families, solo travelers, couples, friend groups and spa-seekers, Rosewood Le Guanahani is the one I recommend most often.

Set across a lush peninsula with picture-perfect access to two beaches, the property’s size feels expansive without ever feeling overwhelming. It’s also one of the most versatile stays on the island. Families gravitate here for the space and thoughtful activities and programming, while others appreciate the refined service and beautifully designed rooms, suites and villas.

The accommodations are a big part of what makes the experience feel so complete. Rooms and villas are designed in a breezy, residential style that reflects the island’s French-Caribbean spirit, with soft color palettes, vaulted ceilings and private outdoor terraces that invite you to spend as much time outside as in. The larger suites and villas offer a true sense of privacy, often with pools, gardens and generous indoor-outdoor living spaces that make it easy to settle in for a longer stay. Thoughtful in-room touches include plush bedding and well-stocked minibars, while luxe EviDenS de Beauté toiletry products add another elevated detail.

What surprised me most on recent stays is how much the resort has leaned into culture. Through its partnership with Artists of St. Barth, the property now feels like a living gallery. Works by artists such as Roger Moreau, Jean Martin, Karolina Karlsson and Michael Gramm are woven throughout the space, and curated experiences offer a deeper look into the island’s creative scene.

The culinary program is also a highlight. At Bar Mélange, I had one of the most interactive and informative cocktail classes I’ve ever taken and was able to try fascinating drinks like a white negroni. The bar also doubles as the host of a memorable dessert experience from Executive Pastry Chef Julien Boury. Called “World of Desserts,” it’s a multi-course tasting that traces his personal and professional journey, from classic French techniques to bold Caribbean influences.

Best Eco-Luxe Retreat: Manapany

Courtesy of Manapany

If you love the idea of St. Barth but wants something that feels grounded and low-key rather than flashy, Manapany is it.

Conveniently set on Anse des Cayes for quick access into the town of Gustavia, Manapany is one of the most sustainability-forward resorts on the island. It runs largely on solar power, sources thoughtfully, and leans into eco-conscious design without sacrificing comfort. You feel connected to the landscape here in a way that is rare on an island known for gloss. As a bonus, you’ll also casually see turtles all around the property; one even climbed over barefoot toes at lunch.

And this is one of the things I love most about Manapany—it feels both barefoot and elevated at the same time. Spaces are open and breezy, you’re just a few steps from private beach chairs with a palapa umbrella, and the overall palette feels soft and natural. It all creates an atmosphere that encourages you to slow down, yet the service is polished, and the beach views are prime.

Pro tip: Ask about the hotel’s recently launched guided nature hikes and meditative walks led along hidden trails and panoramic coastal paths around the island. Manapany also has very yummy, you’d-swear-you’re-in-Paris pain au chocolat that should not be missed at breakfast time.

Most Private & Romantic: Le Toiny

Courtesy of Le Toiny

Le Toiny is where you go when you want to disappear as a couple (or even solo if you’re in need of some self love).

Tucked away on a quiet, more rugged side of the island, the hotel feels intentionally removed from the social energy of St. Barth. Every suite feels like a palatial private villa with its own pool, which means your stay unfolds entirely on your own terms.

The real standout here, though, is the beach experience. Getting there requires a short ride down a steep, winding road by safari-style jeep. When you arrive, it feels like your own private stretch of sand. Lunch is served at the adjacent Beach Club where you can often find a DJ playing chilled out house music with the ocean just steps away. The entire scene feels blissfully untouched and magical in its own way—it’s my favorite place on the island to linger for longer lunches, rosé and magical views.

There’s also a beautifully curated on-site boutique, filled with fashion and accessories sourced from around the world. It’s the kind of place where you find something unexpected and actually want to wear it that night.

Best for Shopping & Harbor Views: Fouquet’s St. Barth

Courtesy of Fouquet's St. Barth

Perched high above Gustavia, Fouquet’s St. Barth (previously known as Le Carl Gustaf) offers some of the best vantage points on the island.

From the moment you arrive, the views of the harbor set the tone. Yachts drift in and out, the light shifts throughout the day, and everything feels quietly cinematic. At the same time, you’re just steps from the center of Gustavia, where boutiques, restaurants, and cafés line the streets and the people watching is truly unmatched.

This is where I stay when I want to be part of the energy without being fully in it. You can spend the morning and an early lunch at Shellona, the property’s beach setup on Shell Beach, wander around nearby for shopping, return for an aperitivo overlooking the harbor, and head back to your cottage-style room, watching the sunset from your terrace.

Rooms are bright, airy, and designed to maximize views, with a breezy, coastal palette of whites and soft neutrals, natural wood accents, and clean-lined furnishings that keep the focus on the landscape. Many of the cottage-style accommodations feature private terraces or plunge pools, along with thoughtful touches like indoor-outdoor living spaces and oversized bathrooms that feel both modern and relaxed. It’s a stay that feels both social and serene, which is not always easy to find in St. Barth.

Best for First-Time Visitors: Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa

Courtesy of Le Barthelemy Hotel & Spa

For a first trip to St. Barth, Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa makes everything feel easy and checks all the boxes.

Located on a calm, swimmable stretch of beach, the hotel offers that quintessential Caribbean setting without complication. It’s polished but approachable, with a layout that’s easy to navigate and a sense of ease that helps you settle in quickly.

Rooms are modern and comfortable with French flair, and the spa is one of the best on the island if you’re looking to build in some downtime. It’s also located in Grand Cul-de-Sac, an area that’s exactly right to get to everything for your first time when you’re still figuring out the rhythm of the island.

What elevates Le Barthélemy beyond a strong first impression is how much there is to discover once you’re settled in. The hotel continues to evolve its culinary and experiential offerings in ways that feel thoughtful rather than overproduced. At Abyss, its more intimate dining concept, the “Four Hands” guest chef series brings in globally recognized talent for collaborative dinners that feel special but still relaxed. Looking ahead, a new stargazing dining experience will take that even further, with private tables set on the sand and zodiac-inspired cocktails to start the evening. For those craving a deeper reset, the Quiet Villas Collection introduces a more intentional way to unplug, with options for digital detox, guided wellness, and a slower, more immersive stay. It’s this balance of ease, thoughtful programming, and understated luxury that makes Le Barthélemy such a strong choice for first-time visitors.

Best Value Luxury: Tropical Hotel St Barth

Tropical Hotel Website

Value in St. Barth is relative. Is the island one of the more expensive spots in the Caribbean? Sure, but in my expert opinion, it’s matched well by the experience and quality. Still, when it comes to finding value, Tropical Hotel delivers it in a way that feels smart and stylish.

This is a smaller, design-forward property with a younger, more relaxed energy. It doesn’t try to compete with the island’s largest resorts. Instead, it focuses on atmosphere, thoughtful contemporary design, spaces for connecting with other guests, and a location that keeps you close to everything you need. You’re also just steps from Nikki Beach, which adds an easy social element when you want it.

The design is part of the appeal. There’s a retro sensibility throughout, with palm and tropical motifs, warm tones, and playful details that feel intentional rather than kitschy. The pool and surrounding tropical garden create a central gathering point, where the energy is social but never overwhelming.

Rooms are vibrant, contemporary, and well-designed, with a clean, modern layout that still feels distinctly of the island. It’s the kind of place where I felt like I had discovered something slightly more under the radar, even if others are starting to catch on.

Great Wolf Lodge is Launching Its First-Ever Season Pass—And the Price is a Steal

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 8:10am

For parents currently staring down the barrel of a three-month summer break and wondering how to keep the kids entertained without a triple-digit bill every weekend, Great Wolf Lodge might have just provided the ultimate travel hack.

The resort brand, famous for its sprawling 84-degree indoor water parks, has officially announced a brand-new Season Pass program designed to turn their lodges into a reliable summer hangout from May 1 through August 31, 2026.

The math on this one is particularly compelling for local families. With standard day passes often starting around $50, the entry-level Limited Pass—priced at just $90—pays for itself before your second lunch break.

This version is the perfect "beat the heat" hack for those with a flexible schedule, as it covers admission every Monday through Friday. While there are a few logical blackout dates for the major holidays like Memorial Day, Juneteenth, and the Fourth of July, it offers a consistent, climate-controlled escape for the vast majority of the summer.

For families who don't want to check a calendar before heading to the slides, the Unlimited Pass starts at $300 and offers total freedom with no blackout dates, including weekends.

Whether you’re heading to the lodge for a full day of high-intensity waterslides or just a quick afternoon in the lazy river and wave pool, the pass effectively turns the resort into a private club for the season. Beyond the water park itself, the pass provides easy access to the lodge’s onsite dining and the complimentary daily activities that make the brand a staple for the elementary school set.

Beginning April 9, these passes will be available for purchase at any U.S. lodge, and given the proximity of many locations to major hubs like Boston, Chicago and Dallas, they are likely to become a hot commodity for the "drive-to" vacation crowd.

It’s a strategic move that mirrors the subscription trends we’re seeing across the travel industry, focusing on giving families a way to "automate" their summer fun. If you’ve been looking for a way to guarantee a splash-filled summer without constantly refreshing your budget, this might be the smartest investment you make before the school bells ring.

1971 No. 1 Classic Sitcom, Ranked ‘Best TV Show of the ‘70s,’ Ended Its Nine-Season Run 47 Years Ago Today

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 8:09am

All in the Family ended its original run 47 years ago today. The iconic CBSsitcom, which aired from Jan. 21, 1971, to April 8, 1979, dominated TV ratings in the 1970s.

All in the Family was the top-rated show on U.S. TV for five years that decade, according to The Television Academy. During that time, the show won four consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Comedy Series. In 2025, TV Line ranked All in the Family as the best TV show of the 1970s.

The comedy series followed the Queens, NY, working-class Bunker family: Archie (Carroll O’Connor), Edith (Jean Stapleton), Gloria (Sally Struthers), and Mike "Meathead" Stivic (Rob Reiner). During its run, several spin-offs were produced, including Maude, Good Times, and The Jeffersons.

The final episode focused on Archie and Edith Bunker

The final All in the Family episode aired in April 1979, months after Struthers and Reiner exited the series under the guise that their characters had moved to California. Titled “Too Good Edith,” the episode was set around a St. Patrick’s Day party, with Edith hiding a serious medical issue from Archie before it landed her in the hospital.

The final scene of the original series featured a rare, emotional conversation between the sitcom couple, during which a tearful Archie told his wife, "I ain't nothin' without you."

The Bunkers returned, but Edith’s appearances were short-lived

In the fall of 1979, the All in the Family spinoff, Archie Bunker’s Place, made its debut. Set at Archie Bunker’s Astoria, Queens bar, the continuation ran for four seasons and ended in 1983. Stapleton’s Edith Bunker made very few appearances, and the character died off-camera at the beginning of Season 2.

The move to kill off Edith came at O’Connor’s suggestion after Stapleton made the decision to step back from the sitcom. Show creator Norman Lear planned to focus on storylines set at the bar, with Edith never seen.

In an interview with the Television Academy Foundation, O'Connor said he hated the idea. "I said, 'Jesus Norman, that's crippling the show. I think Edith must die,'" O'Connor recalled. “He said, ‘I don't want that.’”

O’Connor sent a message through CBS Television vice president Robert Daly. “Tell [Norman] I can't do this show with a non-existent Edith," he said. "We'll have to write a show in which she dies, and that should be the start of the new season, and then go on with Archie without her.”

O’Connor won an Emmy Award for the two-part episode “Archie Alone,” in which viewers learned that Edith died in her sleep.

Lear explained Edith’s demise in a 1980 interview with The New York Times. "Jean Stapleton wanted to pursue other areas of her career," Lear said. "We had to examine the options. In my opinion, Edith Bunker would simply not get a divorce. That was especially true of Archie Bunker, nothing could diminish his need of her. So death was the only option."

43 Years Ago Today, David Copperfield Made the Statue of Liberty Vanish

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 8:05am

In 1983, illusionist David Copperfield pulled off the unthinkable: he made the Statue of Liberty disappear.

On this day, 43 years ago, Copperfield was the star of a CBS Special titled The Magic of David Copperfield V: The Statue of Liberty Disappears. Hosted by Knots Landing star Michele Lee, the pinnacle of the event was Copperfield performing his now-legendary illusion, making the Statue of Liberty vanish before a live television audience.

Medium revealed the secrets behind the astonishing trick and explained how easily it could have gone wrong. As the illusion was performed live, he claimed he would not utilize any camera tricks or editing. Copperfield had to rely on his carefully researched timing, stage design, and misdirection of the audience to pull off the illusion flawlessly.

The trick was completed after Copperfield raised a giant curtain hiding the statue from the audience's view. Then, he lowered the curtain, and the statue was gone. For dramatic effect, spotlights pointed to the empty place where the Statue of Liberty once stood.

The website explained, "The answer is simple: he moved the audience, not the statue. The platform where the audience was seated was actually a huge turntable that rotated slowly while the curtain was up. The statue did not disappear, it was just hidden behind one of the pillars that supported the curtain."

It concluded, "The spotlights were also mounted on the turntable, so they moved along with the audience. The whole illusion relied on the fact that the audience did not notice the slight movement of the platform, and that they assumed that they were still facing the same direction as before."

The illusionist shared an Instagram Reel explaining why the success of this particular illusion was so important to him. The reasoning behind making the iconic American touchstone disappear was actually a metaphor for Americans not taking their freedom for granted. The trick was an homage to his mother, Rebecca, who emigrated via Ellis Island.

Copperfield enlisted screenwriter Frank Capra of the film It's a Wonderful Life to help write the script for the television special. Additionally, in the Instagram Reel, the illusionist said that he had to get permission from the seated President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, to perform the trick, as the statue is located in a national park.

To ensure he understood everything about the statue's exterior and interior, Copperfield prepped by sleeping in the statue's base for weeks. The statue is 305 feet tall and weighs 62,000 pounds, so making it "disappear" required not only Copperfield's talents but a team of experts and technicians who worked almost one year to ensure the trick went off seamlessly.

"I'm so lucky it worked," Copperfield stated. The magic trick was subsequently recorded by the Guinness Book of World Records for "the largest illusion ever staged."

NYC’s Most Impossible Reservation Just Opened—But Only for One Night

Wed, 04/08/2026 - 8:05am

If there's one thing money can't buy, it's a reservation to New York City's most exclusive restaurant: Rao's.

The iconic Italian hotspot is notoriously impossible to get into...until now!

Marriott Bonvoy and American Express have teamed up to recreate the Harlem staple inside the JW Marriott Essex House for one night only, giving diners once-in-a-lifetime access to one of the world's most exclusive dining rooms.

"Rao’s is a special and intimate dining experience that has been passed down for generations," Ron Straci, Co-Owner of Rao's, said in a statement to Parade. "Creating Dinner Rush with American Express and Marriott needed to feel like a true extension of our own table. The experience honors the spirit of Rao’s while opening our table to a new circle of guests."

Dinner Rush will feature a table-for-table recreation of Rao's and offer a multi-course dinner featuring signature Rao's dishes.

"From the start, Dinner Rush, presented by Marriott Bonvoy and American Express, was about opening the door for our Card Members to a table that’s almost impossible to get, and for us, that had to be Rao’s," Jon Gantman, Executive Vice President - Cobrand Products & New Product Development at American Express, said. "It’s one of the toughest reservations in New York, with decades of history behind it. Pairing it with JW Marriott Essex House—another New York institution and a Central Park landmark since the 1930s—gave us the perfect backdrop to recreate that magic for one night."

Beginning April 8, hopeful diners will have the opportunity to text 917-540-2868 to sign up for a chance to attend Dinner Rush. Tickets ($300) can be purchased on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Marriott Bonvoy American Express Card Members will have exclusive access to purchase tickets on April 13.
