In 1976, Thin Lizzy had their one and only Top 40 U.S hit with “The Boys Are  Back in Town.” The song by the Irish rock band, from their album Jailbreak, peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 on July 24, 1976.

Rolling Stone ranked “The Boys Are Back in Town” as one of the greatest songs of all time, noting that the hard rock hit was “powered by the twin guitar attack of Scott Gorham and Brian Robertson and frontman Phil Lynott’s rowdy-night-out lyrics.”

But while the song ultimately marked the U.S. commercial breakthrough for the band, it almost didn’t make the cut for Thin Lizzy’s sixth album.

The band rejected the song—at first

"The Boys Are Back in Town” was written by Lynott. It was originally titled “GI Joe,” and it wasn’t initially considered a frontrunner for the Jailbreak album.

“We had demoed about fifteen tracks for what became the Jailbreak album, and we’d selected those we felt were the ten best ones,” guitarist Scott Gorham told Classic Rock in an interview. “Then our co-manager Chris O’Donnell came down to listen to the songs, and we played him all fifteen. He picked up on something we’d titled ‘GI Joe,’ but we had already rejected it as not good enough for the album. He liked it and told us that we should include it.”

Gorham continued, “We accepted his judgment, but there was still work to be done, because the lyrics were anti-war, which wasn’t really right for us, and musically it wasn’t there. However, we sorted it all out, and ‘GI Joe’ turned into ‘The Boys Are Back In Town.’”

In a separate interview with HotPress.com, Gorham explained that Lynott agreed that the anti-war theme had already been “overdone” by so many other bands. “He turned it into more of a gang song,” the guitarist said of “The Boys Are Back in Town.”

“He looked at all of us: what do we do on a Saturday night? We go out, we have a lot of drinks, try to pull the chicks and have a great time,” Gorham recalled. “And that is what that song is: it’s Saturday night with all your buddies. That’s what the song is all about, nothing more.”

Two disc jockeys gave the song traction

Once they reworked “The Boys Are Back in Town,” the Thin Lizzy bandmates still didn’t think it had hit potential.

“To us, this was a decent album track, no more. We certainly did not think it could be a single!” Gorham admitted to Classic Rock.

He explained that two disc jockeys in Kentucky began to play the album track, which spawned requests for it at other radio stations. “Suddenly it was everywhere. The States, it seemed, had fallen in love with this tune,” he said.

Even with the radio buzz, the band remained unsure about the song and didn’t even include it in their shows.

"Truth be told, we didn't even have it on the short list to put it on the album,” Gorham once told Express UK, adding that the band was playing a club gig in the U.S. when they got news from their manager: "Well, boys, looks like we've got a hit on our hands here in America!"

"And honest to God, Phil said, 'Well, I guess we'd better put it back in the set!'’ Gorham recalled. “That's how unsure we were of what was going to be a single."

Thin Lizzy’s U.S. record label, Mercury, ultimately released “The Boys Are Back in Town” as a single in April 1976.

“Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue” is about quiet heartbreak after a relationship starts to fall apart. The narrator isn’t angry or over the top; she is quietly coming to terms with what’s happening.

She can feel her partner slipping away, and instead of putting up a fight, she sits with the sadness of loving someone who no longer feels the same. Even the title plays into that feeling, using something as simple as eye color to show just how deeply the heartbreak runs.

Songwriter Richard Leigh shared the story behind the song in a 2015 Facebook post. He wrote, "The real story behind 'Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue', from the horse's mouth."

Leigh explained, "I was working on a song. The working title of that song was 'Don't It Turn My Rainbows Blue.' I liked the idea of a rainbow washing to the color blue with sadness."

"I looked down at Amanda, my dog, who was given to me years before by Crystal Gayle's producer, Alan Reynolds, and our friend, Sandy Mason. We had had the dog for a while."

He continued, "Amanda always sat at my feet everyday when I wrote. One day, when I was writing, I kept thinking something wasn't right about the song. I looked down at the dog that was looking back up at me, to get my attention to let her out to do her business. As she was looking up at me with her big brown eyes, my mind flashed to 'what about brown eyes turning blue?'"

The songwriter concluded, "I looked at her and said out loud, 'No, that's too commercial. Too cheesy.' I let her outside, and as she came back in, the line kept haunting me. It may have been cheesy, but it sure was powerful, and it became one of the 10 most performed country songs of the 20th century, according to ASCAP."

"What gave me the chill of my life was many years later, she was chasing a trash truck, and the guy, hanging off the back, threw a rock at her and blinded her in one eye. When a dog becomes blind, their eye turns blue. Life followed art, as they say. The dog that had inspired the song actually had a brown eye turn blue!"

"Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue" was the first single off Gayle's 1977 album We Must Believe in Magic. The song quickly became a hit on both country and pop radio, helping solidify Gayle’s place as a major crossover star in 1977.

As of early 2026, Crystal Gayle, 75, continues to perform and record.

Why was the Addams Family cancelled?

Despite good ratings and airtime in prime-time TV slots, the Addams Family was cancelled for at least a couple reasons—the first being the exciting arrival of new color TV shows in the market. The Addams Family aired in black and white for both of the original seasons.

Actor John Astin blames the cancellation, in part, on the arrival of the original Batman TV show in January 1966. Batman, starring actor Adam West, aired in color and also inspired a ton of new superhero excitement and energy.

In the interview with the Television Academy Foundation, Astin says Batman was slotted opposite The Munsters, a show about a family of monsters, which hurt that show's ratings. Astin says he believes the network ultimately decided The Munsters and the Addams Family were the same kind of show and let it go.

Astin also says the president of the network "had a slightly different sense of humor" than the Addams Family showrunners.

The "Monster" has twirled its final rider. After 56 years of spinning families in circles, Cedar Point has officially retired the 1970s classic. The ride, which sat near the back of the park by the Gemini, was removed this week because it simply "reached the end of its serviceable life," according to park officials.

The #1 Outdated Beauty Rule To Stop Following, According to a Celebrity Makeup Artist

When you watch a TV show or a movie, the actors are typically all dolled up with a full face of makeup, but D’Amelio Ventre says going overboard with your makeup routine in everyday life isn't necessary.

"One outdated rule I still see a lot is applying a full, thick layer of foundation across the entire face for an even, 'perfect' base," she tells Parade. "This made sense years ago when full coverage was the standard and formulas weren’t as advanced."

"Today, that approach can actually make the skin look heavier, more textured and less refined. Applying one thick layer all over tends to sit on top of the skin rather than blending into it," she continues.

Instead of overdoing it, a more modern approach to foundation involves applying a thin layer across the face then using concealer to cover discoloration or blemishes.

"This creates a finish that looks like real skin, but elevated," D’Amelio Ventre says.

Why Makeup 'Rules' Are Changing

A solid skincare routine makes makeup application infinitely easier. With that in mind, there's been a shift towards more natural, glowing skin in recent years versus caked-on makeup. D’Amelio Ventre describes the trend as "skin-first beauty."

"Clients are coming to you to elevate their natural beauty, not to mask it," she explains.

Plus, thanks to beauty vloggers and social media, more women are becoming increasingly educated on the ins and outs of makeup application, so their techniques have improved.

"People understand skin prep, layering and product placement on a much deeper level now," D’Amelio Ventre says.

Applying too much foundation isn't the only outdated makeup rule D’Amelio Ventre wants women to stop following. These are just a few others that have come up in her conversations with clients:

2. Using highlighter that’s too icy or textured for the skin
3. Believing that "matte equals flawless” instead of recognizing that matte makeup can look flat and dry when used in excess

4 Common Makeup Mistakes That Can Age Your Face

Most of us use makeup to enhance our natural beauty, but there are a few common makeup mistakes that can unintentionally age your face. These are the most common ones D’Amelio Ventre has encountered:

1. Layering heavy products without allowing the skin to show through
2. Over-powdering, which emphasizes lines and texture
3. Using formulas that are too dry or too thick for the skin type
4. Not adjusting application techniques as skin changes over time

Most importantly, D’Amelio Ventre says one of the biggest mistakes is not prioritizing an age-appropriate skincare routine.

"Makeup is only ever going to look as good as the skin underneath it. Clients who are consistent with skincare and regularly see an esthetician or dermatologist will always get the most beautiful, seamless result," she says.

• Start with a lightweight base and build only where needed: "Apply a thin layer first, then go back in and perfect specific areas rather than overloading the entire face," she says.

• Prioritize skin prep: "Hydrated, well-maintained skin allows makeup to sit better, blend better and ultimately look more elevated," she says.

The conversation around Brittany's dating life comes amid her ongoing divorce from Jax, who announced his exit from the show in July 2025. While the group has largely supported his efforts to work on himself, not everyone is convinced. “He’s gone through this journey or whatever, but I don’t think he’s actually changed,” Zack said. “Even up to today, he’s still doing the same behavior with Brittany, and we’re hearing about it and seeing it.”

He added, “We want the best for him because we want him to be better for Cruz. We want him to be a better dad. But it’s like, how can we like what you do better when you’re still doing the same behavior?”

Today, the companies announced a massive partnership to bring Amazon Leo—a new high-speed satellite network—to hundreds of Delta aircraft, effectively bringing home-office speeds to your seatback.

Starting in 2028, Delta will begin installing this next-gen tech on an initial fleet of 500 aircraft. On April 8, 1973, Charley Pride scored another major milestone when “A Shoulder to Cry On” climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

Written by Merle Haggard, the track became Pride’s 11th chart-topping country hit and further cemented his dominance during one of the most successful runs in country music history.

Apple TV+ officially renewed the series for Season 4 in January 2026. Notably, the announcement came before Season 3 even premiered, which is a strong signal of confidence in one of the platform’s most beloved shows.

What does all of this mean for Shrinking Season 4? Here's what we know. 

At the moment, there’s no official premiere date, but based on the show’s past release schedule, early 2027 is a likely window. Fans may have a bit of a wait, but the early renewal suggests the creative team has time to map out what comes next.
