1983 Iconic Love Song Was Originally Intended for Two Other Superstar Singers Before Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack Made It Famous

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 5:41am

What is now considered one of the most iconic love songs of the 1980s nearly belonged to two other music powerhouses.

The death of soul singer Peabo Bryson on June 2, 2026, offers an opportunity to revisit one of his most beloved songs, the romantic duet "Tonight, I Celebrate My Love" with Roberta Flack. While the pair made the track an enduring classic, they were not the artists originally envisioned to bring it to life.

The song, written by legendary songwriters Gerry Goffin and Michael Masser, was initially envisioned for Diana Ross before later being pitched to Barbra Streisand. Flack, who had previously recorded several of Masser's songs, including "After You," "Independent Man," and "Stay With Me," encouraged him to allow her to record the tune.

According to a story written by the Tennessee Jazz and Blues Society, Flack told Masser, “He said he was going to give it to Barbra Streisand, and I told him I think I can sing that.”

With Bryson, Flack recorded one of the most enduring romantic duets of the 1980s. Their natural vocal chemistry transformed the track into a timeless classic.

He told SAC Cultural Hub, "My affection for Roberta goes back to when she would seek me out to do anything with me.  I mean, I was no one, and she was adamant about seeking me out."

"She’s a nurturer, a teacher by nature. After twenty minutes with Roberta in a room, you feel like you can conquer the world. She’s one of the most inspiring human beings I’ve ever been around."

"Tonight, I Celebrate My Love" was included on Bryson and Flack's duets album Born To Love in 1983. The song would skyrocket to No. 16 on the Billboard Top 100, remaining on the charts for an astonishing 29 weeks in 1983. Additionally, the song reached No. 4 on Billboard’s U.S. adult contemporary chart.

The Telegraph included the tune on their list of one of the 50 Best Love Songs of the 1980s. The soap opera Days of Our Lives used the song to soundtrack the romance of one of its most enduring supercouples, Bo Brady (Peter Reckell) and Hope Williams (Kristian Alfonso), cementing its pop culture success.

With Peabo Bryson having died at age 75 from complications of a stroke and Roberta Flack passing away on February 24, 2025, following cardiac arrest, "Tonight, I Celebrate My Love" now serves as a lasting reminder of their remarkable musical legacy.

While spring is all about those first buds pushing through, summer is when plants are fuller, brighter, and ready to be enjoyed. Even though most of the growing happens outdoors, it doesn’t take much to bring that energy inside. If you’ve been looking for an easy way to add seasonal charm to your space, the Mainstays Strawberry Ceramic Vase is a fun option.

Just $11 at Walmart, it’s perfect for holding garden clippings, grocery-store bouquets, or even standing alone as a decorative accent, instantly freshening up a countertop, coffee table, or nightstand. It also taps right into the strawberry craze that’s everywhere this season, from kitchen decor to table settings, adding a playful, on-trend touch to your home.

Crafted from durable dolomite ceramic, this vase is shaped to resemble a plump, freshly picked strawberry, complete with softly rounded contours that mimic the natural curves of the fruit. The surface is dotted with seed-like indentations for added texture and realism, while the glossy finish gives it a polished, almost candy-like sheen.

A wide opening provides enough room for a small bouquet of fresh flowers, dried stems, or faux arrangements, while the sculptural silhouette keeps the vase visually interesting even when displayed empty. It can also be used to hold everyday items like pencils, pens, or makeup brushes. Measuring approximately 6 inches tall and wide, it has a compact yet substantial presence that feels eye-catching without taking up too much space on a table, shelf, or countertop.

Its whimsical design taps directly into the ongoing fruit-decor trend, making it an easy fit for styling moments that feel playful but still intentional. It works especially well in cottagecore kitchens layered with vintage-inspired linens, farmhouse wood accents, and fresh florals, or in grandmillennial spaces where patterned wallpaper, chinoiserie, and collected ceramics already set a nostalgic tone. In more retro-inspired interiors, it pairs naturally with chrome details, bold color palettes, and kitschy accessories, while in colorful maximalist homes it blends right into layered shelving, mixed textures, and statement decor vignettes.

Psychologist Shares 10 Unexpected Signs of High Intelligence Most People Completely Overlook

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 5:23am

When you think of "high intelligence," you may think of the Harvard graduate who went on to receive a Master's from Yale and a Ph.D. from Princeton. Highly successful tech founders and CEOs may immediately come to mind, along with your straight-A+ high school valedictorian.

But one psychologist says resumes, pedigrees and report cards don't necessarily signal brilliance, let alone a high IQ. So, what does it mean to have high intelligence?

"High intelligence means quickly grasping complex ideas that others struggle with," says Dr. Sanam Hafeez, Psy.D., a neuropsychologist and the director of Comprehend the Mind. "It's the ability to connect dots across different fields and see patterns nobody else notices."

Now, naturally, these qualities and abilities may have helped a highly intelligent person in your class ace college-level physics as a high school freshman. However, such quick-wittedness isn't just about getting every answer right on a test.

"Smart people often ask better questions rather than just knowing more answers," she adds. "At its core, it's less about what you know and more about how fast you can figure things out."

It turns out, asking great questions isn't the only surprising thing about astute people. Dr. Hafeez shares 10 unexpected signs of high intelligence that most people completely overlook. She also discusses why we're often so taken aback by some of these clues that people are off-the-charts smart.

Why Are Some Signs of High Intelligence Surprising or Unusual?

Fotografía de eLuVe/Getty Images

A lot of the surprise around signs of high intelligence stems from our expectations.

"Many people assume intelligence looks like acing tests or knowing obscure facts, but it often shows up in quieter, stranger ways," Dr. Hafeez points out.

For instance, she reports that highly intelligent people often overthink simple decisions or feel stuck when they have too many options. We can mistake these traits for indecisiveness or laziness, but they can surprisingly be signals of complex brilliance.

"They're also more likely to question things everyone else accepts without thinking, which can come across as difficult or contrarian," she notes. "The brain wired for deep thinking doesn't always fit neatly into social expectations, so its strengths can easily be mistaken for flaws."

10 Unexpected Signs of High Intelligence, According to a Psychologist1. You talk to yourself

Real talk: "Most people might see this as odd or even a little unhinged," Dr. Hafeez states.

But she says that this is a sign of being very bright, one that can sometimes be mistaken for loneliness or anxiety.

"It's actually a sign of intelligence because verbalizing thoughts helps the brain organize complex information and self-regulate more effectively," Dr. Hafeez adds.

2. You're messy or disorganized

Dr. Hafeez reports that we're often conditioned to link neatness with discipline and smarts. When someone's space looks disheveled, we can peg them as lazy or careless. But she says it might be a sign of high intelligence.

"A cluttered environment often reflects a mind too engaged with ideas to prioritize tidying up. Research even links messy desks to creative thinking," the neuropsychologist shares.

Related: These 7 ‘Annoying’ Habits Actually Signal Intelligence, Psychologist Says

3. You worry a lot

Worry is typically seen as a weakness or a flag for low confidence. However, Dr. Hafeez reports that it might be a superpower.

"Highly intelligent people can vividly simulate future scenarios and risks—the same mental horsepower that solves problems also imagines everything that could go wrong," she tells Parade.

4. You're a chronic devil's advocate

People may find this quality annoying, to be honest.

"Constantly arguing the opposite side looks like contrarianism or being difficult," Dr. Hafeez states. "People mistake it for attention-seeking or stubbornness."

Yet, she says people who are unafraid to argue are often stress-testing ideas in real time.

"Highly intelligent people can't help but probe the weaknesses in any argument, including ones they actually agree with," she shares.

5. You forget basic things constantly

You may feel better about not knowing where you put your keys or phone after reading about this sign. Dr. Hafeez shares that this habit can seem like the opposite of being sharp. It's often labeled "absentminded" or that it could signal "early cognitive decline." And while, yes, it can be those things—and discussions about your cognitive health are good to have with a doctor—forgetting basic things can also be a surprising sign of high intelligence, she adds.

"The brain actively filters out low-priority information to preserve bandwidth for deeper thinking," she explains.

Related: 7 Habits of Highly Empathetic People Who Easily Get Drained in Crowds

6. You feel deeply uncomfortable with vague answers

Dr. Hafeez says that most people accept "good enough explanations." But highly intelligent people are not most people.

She points out that others might think that people who won't settle for vague answers are "difficult" or "overly demanding." However, that doesn't change the fact that this quality can be a sign of being a deep thinker.

"A mind trained to find precision naturally rejects ambiguity," the neuropsychologist notes. "It's the brain refusing to file incomplete information as resolved."

7. You get irrationally annoyed by inefficiency

Frustration over small inefficiencies can come off as impatient or uptight. People who get annoyed by slight incompetence can get accused of having control problems or low frustration tolerance. Surprisingly, though, Dr. Hafeez says there's a reason highly intelligent people have these reactions.

"It's a sign of intelligence because your brain has already computed the faster, cleaner path," she points out.

8. You find it hard to hate people you understand

This one includes people who have done you dirty.

"The ability to model another person's entire history, psychology and circumstances well enough to dissolve your own anger is an extraordinarily advanced cognitive act," Dr. Hafeez explains. "Most people never get past the surface of someone who wronged them."

9. You can feel the mood of a room

High emotional intelligence and "book smarts" can go hand in hand.

"Being able to feel the mood of a room reflects an unconscious processing of dozens of micro-signals simultaneously," Dr. Hafeez notes.

She clarifies that some of these "micro-signals" might include posture, breathing patterns and spatial positioning.

"Your brain is running a social algorithm faster than your conscious mind can keep up with," she explains.

10. You find yourself mentally finishing other people's sentences and being right

You might be a pro at Mad-Libs IRL, but Dr. Hafeez points out that this sign of high intelligence can come off as impatient or arrogant.

"People mistake it for poor listening skills or an inflated ego," she explains. "It's a sign of intelligence because your brain is constantly building predictive models of how thought patterns unfold. You're running a parallel simulation of their reasoning in real time."

She shares that this skill is also what drives strategic thinking and deep comprehension.

Final Takeaways

The signs of high intelligence can often be mistaken for negative traits rather than cognitive strengths, which is also why they might be surprising. Here's what a psychologist wants people to know:

  • High intelligence involves the ability to grasp complex ideas quickly. Dr. Hafeez says that highly intelligent people can notice patterns and connect dots like no tomorrow, including complex problems that other people struggle with. They may also ask questions rather than assume they already know all the answers.
  • The signs of high intelligence are surprising. High intelligence isn't just about straight A's or degrees from certain institutions, even though many people assume it is. Sometimes, it can be perceived as being "difficult" when someone asks questions. Highly intelligent people may overthink, especially when faced with too many options, which can make them seem indecisive.
  • There are many surprising signs of high intelligence that people overlook. Some include talking to oneself, disorganization and forgetting basic things.

1979 Soft Rock Classic Inspired the Opening Line of No. 1 Hit Breakup Anthem Five Years Later

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 5:01am

In 1979, The Babys had a major radio hit with “Every Time I Think of You.”

Written by Jack Conrad and Ray Kennedy, the pop ballad about the power of love was the lead single from the British rock band’s third album Head First and featured dynamic dueling vocals by John Waite and Myrna Matthews.

“Every Time I Think of You” peaked at No. 13 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1979, but the success came near the band’s end.

In an interview shared on music historian Michael Cavacini’s website, Waite noted that The Babys were “at the end” of their run by the time “Every Time I Think of You” came out, largely due to issues with their record company.

“We had huge success at first – really, really big. You could not turn on AM radio and not hear ‘Every Time I Think of You,’” the singer recalled. “And you couldn’t turn on FM radio and not hear ‘Head First.’ And they were both on the same record. I’ve never seen a record that successful till maybe The Police, but it was absolutely gigantic. We were touring with big bands, we were all over the TV, all over the radio, but then Chrysalis told us we weren’t selling records…and it just stopped everybody in their tracks.”

The Babys broke up in 1981, but Waite said the band’s doomed history had a romanticism to it.

It was a very, very good band,” he told Classic Rock Revisited in an interview. “We went astray at the end. … It just became a fight between the record company and the band.  It had a strange beauty to it as there was something about being really great and having fate hold you back.  There was something dark about it like it wasn’t meant to win.  I kind of dig that.  It is a romantic story.  It had its time, and it was ahead of its time.”

Five years after the success of “Every Time I  Think of You,” Waite pulled the title of the song for a solo tune that would become his biggest hit. The song, titled “Missing You,” appeared on Waite’s solo album No Brakes and opened with the line “Every time I think of you.” The song hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 in September 1984 and made Waite a solo superstar.

RELATED: 1981 Rock Duet Became the Biggest Hit Ever for Both Artists

Waite once revealed that he wrote the lyrics to  “Missing you”  in 10 minutes.

“It came out of nowhere,” he told Songfacts. “I used a line from a Babys song, ‘Every time I Think of You," which was a Babys song, just to get me started. And then I sang the whole first verse, bridge, and chorus without stopping. Then I had to stop, I was so overwhelmed. I stood back from the mic and I couldn't speak. Then I just rolled the tape again and got on with it.”

“That's why I don't go to songwriting too often,” he added. “I wait for it to be the last minute, because it just builds up. It's like turning on a faucet. I mean, ‘Missing You,’ the lyric took about 10 minutes. And half the Babys songs were written like that.”

Waite told Cavacini that when he wrote the “Missing You” lyrics that started with “Every time I  think of you,” he felt like he had come full circle.

“It knocked the wind out of me,” he shared. “On the demo, I actually choke after the first two lines of the second verse and then I keep going,” he shared. “But I knew…it was as if it was channeling through me. It was what I had been looking for. I had probably been looking for that song since The Babys. It was just the right song for the right time.”

A Legendary Six Flags Roller Coaster Is Finally Making a Comeback

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 4:10am

There is nothing theme-park fans love more than a legendary comeback story—especially when it involves a record-breaking ride that defined generations of summer vacations.

In a major nod to its history, Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, has officially announced that its massive dual-track wooden roller coaster, American Eagle, will return to its iconic side-by-side racing operation. For the first time in nearly a decade, both sides of the colossal wooden structure will run simultaneously, reviving the head-to-head competition that made the ride a global fan favorite.

The grand return is a cornerstone of the park’s upcoming 50th Anniversary Celebration. For decades after its initial debut in 1981, American Eagle was the ultimate signature experience at the park, drawing massive crowds who lined up specifically to compete against rival riders on the parallel tracks. Bringing that original, simultaneous operation back online is a deliberate effort to blend retro nostalgia with high-speed thrills.

“American Eagle has been a classic of Six Flags Great America for more than four decades,” John Krajnak, Park President of Six Flags Great America, said in the announcement. “Bringing back racing is a meaningful way to celebrate the nostalgia guests remember while delivering the kind of thrilling, shared experience that defines our park today.”

A Living Legend Back at Full Throttle

For genuine roller coaster enthusiasts, this isn't just a slow-moving historic piece; it's a high-speed powerhouse that still holds major weight in the theme park world. Even after 45 years of operation, American Eagle proudly stands as the tallest, fastest and longest racing wooden roller coaster anywhere on the planet.

Because the attraction utilizes a unique twin-track engineering footprint to send two full trains hurtling through space at the exact same time, it delivers a deeply interactive, competitive experience that modern steel coasters rarely replicate. The revival allows longtime park loyalists to relive their favorite childhood memories while introducing a brand-new generation of thrill-seekers to the friendly track rivalries of the 1980s and '90s.

The side-by-side racing experience anchors a broader 50th-anniversary lineup across the 300-acre property, which features 17 roller coasters alongside nostalgic entertainment, milestone-exclusive food and beverage offerings, and special events.

If you're looking to map out a trip to check out the coaster's big return, the park has even extended its early-season ticket promotion through June 7, slicing up to 50% off park passes and tickets to help families lock in their spots before the midsummer rush.

Netflix Removes Chart-Topping Mammoth Binge-Watch Despite 2.74B Hours Watched

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 4:00am

One of the best shows on Netflix has to be a Showtime masterpiece. Shameless, which ran for 11 seasons, has been one of those guilty pleasures that we just couldn’t get enough of.

Sadly, the run on the streamer is coming to an end. What’s On Netflix has announced that it’s one of the five major licensed shows leaving before the year is out. The good news is that there’s still time to binge-watch the mammoth series, as there are 11 seasons to get through.

Based on the UK series of the same name, Shameless ran between 2001 and 2011, bringing a story of a family completely unapologetic and wild. Frank is a single father of six, who spends more of his time drinking than looking after the kids, leading to the children having to raise each other. Of course, that means running scams, committing petty crimes, and taking after dear old dad.

All 11 Seasons of ‘Shameless’ Are Leaving Netflix

After years of the Gallagher family wrecking havoc for all, Shameless will leave Netflix on October 11, 2026. This is just before Gossip Girl also leaves the platform.

The decision is surprising when you consider the number of hours that people have logged with this epic dysfunctional family. Between 2023 and 2025, 2.74 billion hours were counted, and considering there are 134 episodes, it’s clear that fans are not done living the drama and the craziness.

Cliff Lipson/Showtime

‘Shameless’ Doesn’t Have Another Streaming Home Yet

Nobody knows where the Gallagher family will land after leaving the streaming home they’ve known for years. It’s far too early to tell, as there are sure to be bidding wars and negotiations to land this one.

HBO Max is the most obvious home for it, as the Showtime series was a Warner Bros. production. That doesn’t mean it will definitely go there, as Warner Bros. is a fan of licensing its content out. For example, after leaving Netflix, Supernatural went to both Peacock and Prime Video.

Dunkin' Debuts New Limited-Time Menu Item Nationwide — And It's Based on One of the Most Beloved Summer Treats Ever

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 4:00am

Dunkin' just revealed its 2026 summer menu, and the lineup includes sweet sips and brand-new treats. One of the most unique new additions, perhaps, is a special doughnut flavor inspired by one of the most iconic summer treats of all time: the Bomb Pop.

The café chain's twist on the ice pop, the Rocket Pop Classic Donut, features a "yeast shell filled with cherry, lime, and raspberry flavored 'Rocket Pop' buttercream, topped with blue icing and a stars & stripes sprinkle blend." (The Original Bomb Pop, first introduced in 1955, is a rocket-shaped frozen treat known for its instantly recognizable, iconic red, white, and blue design with cherry, lime, and blue raspberry flavors.)

In addition to the sweet snack, there's also a duo of savory choices joining the menu for the season: the Golden BBQ Hash Brown Wake-Up Wrap with bacon, egg, and American cheese wrapped up with three hash browns and Golden BBQ sauce, and the Golden BBQ Loaded Hash Browns, a bowl of nine hash browns drizzled with a sweet and tangy Golden BBQ sauce and topped with crumbled bacon.

For a budget-friendly dining option, Dunkin's $6 Meal Deal is perfect. Customers can get any two Wake-Up Wrap sandwiches and a medium hot or iced coffee, 14-ounce or 24-ounce, for just six bucks (because in this economy, we need to stretch each dollar).

Elsewhere on the seasonal menu, the eatery is promising a totally pink summer, debuting a collaboration with Mattel's Barbie that "brings its signature color to life in new ways all season long."

"To kick off the season, Dunkin’ is teaming up with ultimate pink icon, Barbie, to introduce
Barbie Pink Strawberry Cold Foam – a limited-time topper that adds a playful pink finish and sweet, creamy strawberry flavor to a variety of iced beverages," a press release shared directly with Parade announced.

Guests can choose from an extensive line of sips to enjoy the Barbie Pink Strawberry Cold Foam with, including:

  • Double Strawberry Daydream Refresher: Strawberry Dragonfruit flavors blended
with oatmilk and topped with Barbie Pink Strawberry Cold Foam for a double-berry
    twist.
  • Ultimate Pink Daydream Refresher: Pink Pineapple flavors with oatmilk, finished
with Barbie Pink Strawberry Cold Foam for a smooth, creamy sip.
  • Pink Mango Daydream Refresher: Mango Pineapple flavors mixed with oatmilk and
finished with Barbie Pink Strawberry Cold Foam for a bright, fruity flavor.
  • Pink Cherry Daydream Refresher: Black Cherry flavors combined with oatmilk and

  • Strawberry Cloud Matcha: Creamy sweetened Matcha with vanilla flavors and topped
with Barbie Pink Strawberry Cold Foam.

coffee milk and vanilla flavors, topped with Barbie Pink Strawberry Cold Foam.

The collectible includes a Liberty Head Nickel minted in 1912, the same year that the Titanic sank. It’s a genuine U.S. coin, which means it’s not a replica. One shopper gave it a five-star review, writing, “love it!” It’s easy to see why. The coin comes in a sealed acrylic display case, which makes it perfect for gifts, particularly because of its sentimental inscription. It reads: “Few 20th-century events are remembered as vividly as the sinking of the Titanic, the largest ship of its time. On April 14, 1912, more than 1,500 people died after the British luxury liner struck an iceberg and sank in the Atlantic in less than three hours.”

'Queen of Noise' Turns 76

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 3:49am

On June 3, rock pioneer Suzi Quatro celebrates her 76th birthday.

Long before women fronting rock bands became commonplace, this trailblazer was breaking barriers as a singer, bassist, songwriter and bandleader. Her string of 1970s hits included "Can the Can," "48 Crash," "Devil Gate Drive" and "The Wild One," while her role as Leather Tuscadero on Happy Days introduced her to an entirely new audience. Today, she remains an active performer more than six decades after first stepping onstage.

Quatro has never been shy about the impact she made on rock music. In a 2012 interview with the Detroit Metro Times, she reflected on her place in history, saying, "I was the first to be taken seriously as a female rock 'n' roll musician and singer. That hadn't been done before. I played the boys at their own game."

She continued, "For everybody that came afterward, it was a little bit easier, which is good. I'm proud of that. If I have a legacy, that's what it is. It's nothing I take lightly."

Born Susan Kay Quatro in Detroit in 1950, she grew up in a musical family and joined her sisters' band, the Pleasure Seekers, as a teenager. After moving to England in the early 1970s, she found success as a solo artist and became one of the defining figures of the glam-rock era, even if she later insisted she saw herself simply as a rock-and-roll performer.

One of the most famous parts of Quatro's image was her trademark leather jumpsuit. In an interview for the BBC documentary Queens of British Pop, she recalled the moment that look came together before "Can the Can" was released.

"When it came to getting an image together for the first photo shoot and for the stage clothes … Mickie said, 'Okay, now we need to get all this together. What do you want to wear?' And I said, 'Leather.'"

When producer Mickie Most argued that leather had already been done, Quatro famously replied: "Not by a woman."

That confidence has remained a hallmark of her career. In March 2026, while promoting her album Freedom, Quatro told BBC Breakfast that she still performs between 60 and 70 shows a year and has no plans to retire.

When asked if she ever thinks about slowing down, her answer was simple: "No."

She added, "It's so much in my blood. When you've been doing it all your life, I don't know what I would do if I didn't have that outlet of going up. That for me is the happiness."

Even after selling more than 50 million records worldwide and influencing generations of artists, Quatro says she still feels a touch of nervousness before every show.

"Every time I go, I hope they like me tonight," she said. "And then the magic happens."

More than 50 years after "Can the Can" made her an international star, the woman Classic Rock Magazine dubbed the "Queen of Noise" is still doing exactly what she loves: getting onstage and playing rock and roll.

Quote of the Day: At 85, Neil Diamond Proves You Can Survive Hard Times

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 2:34am

There are some things in life we never get to choose: the diagnosis we didn't see coming, the door that slams shut in our face, the loss of a loved one. But as they say, the final stage of grief is acceptance—coming to terms with the new normal.

Few people understand that journey better thanNeil Diamond. Born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1941, he discovered his passion for music at 16, after watching folk legend Pete Seeger perform at a summer camp and seeing other campers play their own songs. The same year, he got his first guitar as a birthday gift and began taking lessons. Almost immediately, he started writing his own songs.

A few years later, he left a pre-med path at the prestigious New York University to write songs for $50 a week in New York's legendary Brill Building. His big break came in 1966, when he wrote "I'm a Believer."The Monkees recorded it and it became a No. 1 smash. The timing was perfect, because Diamond was reluctantly stepping out as a recording artist himself.

Throughout his incredible career, Diamond has given us hits like "Sweet Caroline," "Cracklin' Rosie," "Song Sung Blue" and "America." He's sold out stadiums across the globe for half a century. He's a member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame—and a recipient of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In other words—a living legend.

But in 2018, after 50 years on the road, Diamond stepped away from touring following a diagnosis of Parkinson's disease. For a performer who lived to be onstage, it was a devastating blow—and by his own admission, he spent years unable to truly accept it. Then, slowly, something shifted. And that hard-won acceptance is exactly why Neil Diamond is today's Quote of the Day.

Quote of the Day by Neil Diamond

"This is the hand that God's given me, and I have to make the best of it, and so I am."

Parade/CanvaPro

I love this quote because it sounds simple, but it's so profound. He's saying that accepting the hand you've been dealt is the start of change. If you're going through a terrible time, it's natural to feel overwhelmed by the pain and struggle to come to terms with it. But once you've acknowledged a reality you can no longer hide from, you can start fully living your life again.

Deeper Meaning of Neil Diamond's Quote—The Power of Acceptance

Diamond shared these powerful words during an April 2023 interview with CBSSunday Morning's Anthony Mason, choosing to be completely honest and vulnerable about what he was going through. "In a sense, I was in denial for the first year or two," he said. "When the doctor told me what it was, I was just not ready to accept it."

But over time, he began to. "This is the hand that God's given me, and I have to make the best of it, and so I am," he added. For anyone facing a devastating reality, his words are a gentle reminder that there's strength in making peace with your pain. And that's the start of finding happiness again.

More Quotes From Neil Diamond
  • "I find that I like myself better. I'm easier on people. I'm easier on myself."
  • "And the beat goes on—and it will go on—long after I'm gone."
  • "I've come to accept what limitations I have and still have great days."
  • "I'm an imperfect emotional being, trying to figure out some way to give some kind of substance and meaning to my life."
  • "My songs tend to reflect myself, my life and my attitude about things to one degree or another."

‘South Park’ Creators Reveal Why They Made Trump the Ultimate Antagonist This Season

Wed, 06/03/2026 - 12:30am

South Park creators TreyParker and Matt Stone revealed why they gave President DonaldTrump such a large role in the most recent season of the animated comedy. The duo opened up during a video spot for the 19th Television Academy Honors.

“We’ve always known that our job was, we’re supposed to be the joker. You need that. You need someone just making fun of things,” Parker said. “It’s a great thing to be able to be. And unfortunately, right now, we have a president who thinks his job is to be the joker.”

Stone added, “And so that’s why we dove into the [27th and 28th] season and actually put Trump in there and Jesus and started talking about Christian nationalism and all that stuff. Because we had to let people know, for better or worse, if you like it or you don’t, it’s like, this is us, ok? No one’s telling us [what to do].”

Since South Park premiered in 1997, it has been the subject of many controversies.

“For 30 years, you’ve always had some group trying to tell you what you can and can’t say,” Parker said. “And that group has changed. That group has been liberal. That group’s been Republican.”

The adult cartoon took a two-year hiatus until July 2025, returning with one of its most political seasons yet. The first episode of Season 27 established Trump as the antagonist, portrayed in bed with his lover, Satan.

The South Park creators aim to push back on current events. In a New York Timesinterview, Parker claimed, “politics became pop culture.”

“It’s like the government is just in your face everywhere you look,” he said. “Whether it’s the actual government or whether it is all the podcasters and the TikToks and the YouTubes and all of that, and it’s just all political and political because it’s more than political. It’s pop culture.”
