When the FIFA World Cup kicks off this summer, it will feature 48 national teams playing in a whopping 104 games from June 11 through July 19, 2026. While you could watch all of these games from the comfort of your couch, I think soccer is best experienced with other fans, whether that’s at a game or at one of the hundreds of pop-up events taking place around the country. 

If you’re looking for a fun-filled soccer event to watch a game, play the beautiful game, potentially meet iconic soccer players or even win tickets to a FIFA World Cup Match, keep reading. While I can’t list every event in the United States, here are some of the best free options in the 11 host cities.

The CTR

Those who live or are traveling to the deep South for a soccer game will find The CTR in Atlanta a great home base for the FIFA World Cup. The central hub for fans opens June 12, with free watch parties throughout the tournament, in an air-conditioned atrium (a big bonus compared to the outdoor watch parties). Between matches, head to the ATL Cultural Marketplace, where small businesses from around the city are gathering in one spot in CTR Plaza, or to the official FIFA merch shop inside The CTR. Additionally, no one is going hungry with plenty of food options, from fried chicken to Latin cuisine inside, plus the state’s largest bar slinging drinks. 

Boston

Boston soccer fans will want to head to City Hall Plaza for some of the best World Cup action in the city. The official FIFA Fan Festival will take place over 16 days, from June 12 through June 27, showcasing many of the Group Stage matches. Besides the soccer games, fans can expect a showcase of Boston’s best flavors through a curated food and beverage program. There will also be a Cultural Showcase with performances from local artists, plus nightly DJs to keep the party vibes high. Fans who want to attend should register in advance.

Dallas

One of the more unique fan events happening in Dallas is from Men in Blazers, the largest soccer-focused media group in the country. On June 12th, the organization is launching “Match Day Live,” and it’s coming to Dallas on July 14 at 11:00 am, just before a semifinal game. While the exact location is still under wraps, this free event is set to be one of the most fun of the entire World Cup. Match Day Live promises the hype of College Game Day’s college football atmosphere with a distinct soccer twist, featuring celebrity guests and a massive penalty kick activation where fans can win tickets to matches.

Houston The Houston Fan Festival will feature live music, watch parties, and more.

FIFA Fan Festival ™ Houston

The FIFA Fan Festival Houston will be one of the longest free fan events during the World Cup. The festival will be located in Houston’s East Downtown neighborhood, and will be open every match day starting 90 minutes before games kick off. The event will have nearly 20 local restaurants serving match-day eats, plus live music from local bands and musicians. And when you’re ready for your own match, head to Armamco Arena to play a seven-on-seven pick-up game or Houston Hall for interactive attractions from the Houston Rodeo and the Houston Livestock Show. 

Kansas City Fans can enjoy watch parties and more at the FIFA Fan Festival in Kansas City.

When I think of Kansas City, my mind goes to BBQ and football, but this summer, the other type of football (soccer) is taking over the Midwest town. For 18 days across June and July, soccer fans can head to the FIFA Fan Festival Kansas City at the National WWI Museum and Memorial. The fan fest can host up to 25,000 fans at a time, making it an electric destination for soccer fans of all ages. Besides watching the games, fans can expect concerts from some of the biggest acts like Sheryl Crow, The Chainsmokers, Flo Rida and The All-American Rejects. Access to the Fan Festival requires registration, and you’ll have to pick a preferred date upon check-out. 

Additionally, at Sporting Park, soccer fans can enjoy Kansas City’s “Soccer Capital Summer,” with watch parties and concerts. Fans can also take part in various soccer challenges, e-sports tournaments, and a make-your-own trading card pop-up. This is also free to attend, though you must register through SeatGeek before arriving at the park. 

Los Angeles

Los Angeles will be an epicenter of World Cup fun, with watch parties and pop-ups around the city. Two of the biggest free parties that are happening are at the Official Fan Zones and the U.S. Soccer House. Fan zones will be open around the city, including at The Original Farmers Market, Stonewood Center, Los Angeles Union Station, Hansen Dam, Venice Beach and more. While not all of the fan zones are free, many of them are and include watch parties, games, giveaways, and more. 

Over at Venice Beach, U.S. Soccer House is opening its doors starting June 11. The immersive fan space will feature everything from watch parties and live podcast recordings to meet-and-greets with soccer players. To gain free entry, you do need to register in advance with US Soccer’s Insiders program. 

Miami

Miami has always been a hot spot for soccer fans, but with the World Cup, the city is heating up even more. The FIFA World Cup festivities kick off on Thursday, June 11, with an opening match watch party featuring a concert from Carlos Vives. Then throughout the tournament, the Miami Beach Bandshell will host watch parties just steps from the beach, along with watch parties for the Bronze and World Cup Final Game at the Sand Bowl. 

New York and New Jersey 

Across New York City, Fan Zones will pop up in all five boroughs throughout the FIFA World Cup. The action kicks off in Queens from June 11 through 27, when fans can enjoy entertainment and games, along with watch parties inside Louis Armstrong Stadium at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Other official Fan Zones take place throughout the tournament, but the biggest one is in the heart of Midtown Manhattan at Rockefeller Center from July 6 through July 19. The official Fan Village will include live match broadcasts around a temporary pitch covering the iconic skating rink, the free Legacies of Champions exhibit at the FIFA Museum and more.

Philadelphia Fans can enjoy local restaurant pop-ups at the FIFA Fan Festival in Philadelphia.

For the ultimate World Cup experience, head to the Philadelphia Fan Festival. This is the only host city Fan Festival open every day of the tournament. The free event is located in East Fairmount Park, featuring concerts and performances from community groups, a massive lineup of local food trucks, watch parties, a craft market, games and giveaways. Fans who want to attend need to register in advance, but entry is free. 

Seattle

Soccer fans looking for some World Cup fun in Seattle have four major options. The first is the Seattle Center, where the free, family-friendly Let’s Play SEA ’26—World Soccer Fan Celebration takes place. Inside The Armory, families can enjoy watching matches on a big screen, with no need to worry about the city’s unpredictable weather. Pacific Place and the Seattle Soccer House are where fans can watch matches on a four-story, LED screen surrounded by other fans. At Waterfront Park, World Cup fans can enjoy games and free activities that highlight the spirit of Seattle. Finally, at Victory Hall, the Seattle Mariners are hosting Seattle Match Day Live, where you can watch games on a 23-foot screen, complete with live music and DJs, food trucks and local beer.

San Francisco  Fans can enjoy some wildlife spotting alongside soccer games at Soccer with the Sea Lions.

PIER 39

San Francisco is hosting watch parties and free events around the city throughout the World Cup. One early game not to miss is the United States versus Paraguay match on June 12, which you can watch at Thrive City at Chase Center, though more games will be played here throughout the tournament. Additional watch parties are scheduled throughout the event at China Basin Park at Mission Rock, Yerba Buena Lane, The Midway and The Crossing at East Cut. Additionally, PIER 39 is hosting Soccer With The Sea Lions, where soccer fanatics can enjoy games on an outdoor screen at the Bay End Stage at PIER 39.

In 1978, Gerry Rafferty released what would become his biggest hit with “Baker Street.”

Written by the Stealers Wheel alum for his solo album City to City, the song is known for its iconic opening saxophone riff. “Baker Street” hit No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in June 1978, making Rafferty a radio star that summer.

The sax riff, performed by Raphael Ravenscroft, remains legendary. Stereogum described it as “big, volcanic, slightly ridiculous,” and “the monster hook that everyone remembers.”

But in the last minute of the song, there’s a searing guitar solo that comes out of nowhere. Forty-eight years later, the guitar work is finally getting the credit it deserves.

In May 2026, Rolling Stone ranked guitarist Hugh Burns’ cameo on Rafferty’s “Baker Street” among the greatest guitar solos of all time

“For its guitar solo, session vet Hugh Burns was saddled with the tough job of coming up with something that might match the grandeur of Raphael Ravenscroft’s towering sax solo, and he nailed it with a soaring, crystalline performance that perfectly echoes the mood of the sax,” the outlet noted.

Burns, an esteemed studio musician who worked with everyone from Paul McCartneyto Pet Shop Boys, once told The Atlantiche considered “Baker Street” to be one of the greatest songs he ever played on.

“I regard it as a great good fortune that I was able to meet and contribute something to Gerry’s music,” Burns said, noting that it was Rafferty who came up with the blistering guitar riff.

Burns added that once the guitar solo was down, Rafferty asked him to “have a go at what obviously became very famous, which was the sax line.” The two musicians ultimately agreed that part of the song would be better played on the saxophone, which paved the way for Ravenscroft’s iconic sax work.

Nearly 50 years later, “Baker Street” remains an enduring anthem that has inspired other musicians. In a 2019 interview with French magazine L’Obs, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash named Burns’ “epic” “Baker Street” jam as one of his favorite guitar solos of all time, according to Far Out magazine. The song ranked alongside Manfred Mann’s “Blinded by the Light” and Led Zeppelin’s “Whole Lotta Love” as one of the three songs that had the greatest impact on the guitar legend.

Every successful band has a defining moment, and for The Hooters, one beloved 1986 hit reshaped their future.

The Philadelphia-based music group was comprised of members Andy King, John Lilley, Rob Hyman, David Uosikinnen, and Eric Bazilian. Founded in 1980, they recorded their first LP, Amore, by 1983.

That same year, Hyman and Bazilian were called upon by a mutual friend to help a fledgling performer with her debut album. That artist was Cyndi Lauper, who was writing and recording what would become the LP, She's So Unusual.

According to American Songwriter, Hyman worked with Lauper on the tune "Time After Time," and the pair helped with the LP's arrangements, played instruments, and provided backing vocals.

“I was so happy when Rob wanted to write together,” Lauper told The Wall Street Journal. “We started by putting together a list of song titles. I thumbed through a TV Guide magazine. One movie title seemed good, a sci-fi film called “Time After Time” from 1979. I never meant for it to be the song’s real title. It was just supposed to get me thinking.”

The wild success of the song put a renewed focus on The Hooters. They were signed by Columbia Records, and Hyman and Bazilian left the City of Brotherly Love for a trip to the Poconos to focus on writing songs for their second release, Nervous Night.

American Songwriter wrote, "One night, the pair started having a conversation about why some melodies work and others don’t, and that led them to devise the chorus melody for 'And We Danced.'"

Bazilain told author Jim Beviglia in the book Playing Back the ’80s: A Decade of Unstoppable Hits, "We came back with 15, 20 different song ideas. And we played them all for Rick Chertoff, who was producing the record. ["And We Danced"] was the last one we played him, and he was like, ‘That paid for your trip.’”

"And We Danced" just skimmed the Billboard Top 20, peaking at No. 21. The song's popularity ushered in a new era for the band, and Nervous Night spawned two other hits, "Day By Day" and "All You Zombies."

By July 1995, The Hooters opened up the Philadelphia portion of Live Aid. They were introduced by Chevy Chase and Joe Piscopo. Additionally, they were among the lineup of performers for Amnesty International's historic "A Conspiracy of Hope" benefit concert in 1986.

The Hooters continue to tour and record music, 41 years after their breakout hit.

If you have a winter getaway booked to escape the cold a couple of seasons from now, you might want to double-check your confirmation email. In a surprise deployment shakeup, Norwegian Cruise Line has canceled an extensive block of scheduled voyages aboard one of its newest flagship vessels, Norwegian Viva.

According to initial deployment data tracked by CruiseMapper.com, the cruise line quietly rolled out a first wave of cancellations affecting departures between November 1, 2027, and January 23, 2028—including the ship's planned Transatlantic crossing from Lisbon down to San Juan, Puerto Rico. Following that initial shift, NCL officially sent a second notice directly to booked passengers and travel advisors on June 1, 2026, extending the cancellation block a massive seven months further to cover all scheduled seven-night departures from San Juan through July 23, 2028.

The ship was originally slated to operate its winter and spring programs out of Puerto Rico, offering roundtrip itineraries throughout the Southern Caribbean. However, NCL is pulling the ship from those routes entirely and repositioning it to PortMiami in Florida instead to run shorter getaway cruises to the Bahamas.

In the letters sent to impacted travelers, the cruise line explained that itinerary changes are required from time to time to "optimise operations in response to changing port availability."

While NCL is offering a full refund and a 10% future cruise credit, unexpected changes like this still mean ruined vacation countdowns, wasted PTO planning and the headache of scrambling for replacement flights. NCL is also directing displaced guests who still want to sail out of San Juan to sister ship Norwegian Prima, which will be running similar roundtrip itineraries during that timeframe.

Reflecting on the realities of modern cruise scheduling in the r/NCL Reddit community, one traveler summarized the collective sigh of the community perfectly, noting simply that this sort of news is "Well this is upsetting…"

While a three-month block of cancellations is a major disruption for anyone holding a ticket, industry veterans note that these sweeping corporate pivots are a standard part of the global cruise business. Routes are routinely optimized to make room for high-stakes operational updates—such as private full-ship charter contracts, routine shipyard maintenance or even a strategic play to lock down highly coveted, permanent weekend docking slots in a massive cruise capital like PortMiami.

Another regular traveler in the NCL forum urged impacted passengers to stay flexible, pointing out that unexpected itinerary changes are simply the nature of cruise travel today and "Happens all the time."

On June 5, 1965, Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music soundtrack began what would become a remarkable 70-week run atop the U.K. album chart. The album's success wasn't limited to Britain. In the United States, it reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spent an astonishing 109 weeks in the Top 10, setting a record for soundtrack albums.

More than six decades later, the album remains one of the most successful releases ever to appear on the Billboard charts. In fact, it still sits at No. 2 on Billboard's Greatest of All Time 200 Albums chart.

The American Revolution is chock-full of famous names: Benjamin Franklin, Paul Revere, Thomas Jefferson, Alexander Hamilton, etc. But there are some figures who are not as well known—even though their influence was significant. Mercy Otis Warren, for example, was a published poet, political playwright and pamphleteer during the American Revolution. She was influential in the retelling of the history of the war, and kept correspondence with prominent figures of the time, such as Samuel Adams, John Hancock, George Washington and Jefferson. But she didn’t just write about politics, and our quote of the day is her insight into what can cure low spirits: a good friend.

As the National Women’s History Museum reported, Warren was born on Sept. 14, 1728, in Barnstable, MA. She was the third child of 13, and gained a love of politics from her father—who was an attorney elected to the Massachusetts legislature—and a love of history from sitting in on her brother’s school lessons (since girls weren’t allowed to receive a formal education at the time). She educated herself with books she had at her disposal, and ended up marrying James Warren in 1754, who was also politically active, which meshed well with her own ideology. 

She was a Patriot, and criticized British taxes and policies, even writing satires making fun of British officials. Warren supported the Boston Tea Party and any boycotts that came along, urging other women to do the same. And if it weren’t for the women leading the charge on boycotting British goods, the American Revolution wouldn’t have been as successful as it was, per History.com.

She kept a written history of the Revolutionary War for 30 years, which turned into her 1805 book History of the Rise, Progress and Termination of the American Revolution. It was the first nonfiction book published by a woman in the United States and is one of the earliest first-hand recollections of the war, according to the National Women’s History Museum. Jefferson even ordered copies to be made for himself and his cabinet members (he was president at the time), writing to Warren that he anticipated her account “will furnish a more instructive lesson to mankind than any equal period known in history,” per Sudie Doggett Wike’s book Women in the American Revolution. 

With such an interesting and inspiring background, it makes sense that Mercy Otis Warren was well-rounded enough to not only write about political causes, but also plays and other poems. And today’s quote features her insight into what the simple, yet effective, “balm” of life is: friendship. This was true in the 18th century and is still true today.

Fox's beloved show Brooklyn 99 was a police, procedural sitcom that ran from 2013 to 2018. The show was met with critical acclaim during its five years on air winningGolden Globes, Critics Choice Awards, and Emmy Awards. The Washington Post called it "one of the funniest, most important shows on TV" and long after its series finale it has remained a staple in many households.

In Season Five, the 14th episode of the show is called "The Box" and features guest actors Sterling K. Brown and Romy Rosemont. The show is what's known as a "bottle episode" meaning it is filmed with an extremely limited set and cast in order to cut costs. Bottle episodes are a strategy by production in TV to save time, labor, and money by pulling the story out of a "bottle." This allows them to then subsequently allocate the saved budget towards bigger things and production values.

"The Box" takes places over one night in the Brooklyn precinct with Jake (Andy Samburg) and Holt (Andre Braugher) interrogating a dentist (Sterling K. Brown) who is the main suspect behind the murder of his business partner. The interrogation takes several unexpected turns when the dentist is able to predict their interrogation strategies to deflect all accusations and even trick the pair into making blundering mistakes.

The episode of Brooklyn 99 was met with high viewership, massive ratings places like The A.V. Club, and widespread, critical acclaim with many considering it to be the best of the entire series. Vulture wrote of the episode:

'The Box' gets far with a simple, but effective, structural approach to its interrogation. A lot of the first act has Jake and Raymond sequestered together as they formulate theories and bounce off of each other before they let Davidson into the equation. Holt is also eager to get his hands dirty again as he misses this aspect from his detective days, and Peralta knows an interrogation works better with two people so they can get some sort of Rush Hour/good cop, bad cop dynamic going on."

For his performance in the episode as the dentist Phillip Davidson, Brown was nominated for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.

More than three decades after becoming a breakout personality on MTV's groundbreaking reality series, The Real World: Los Angeles, Jon Brennan is making headlines again—but this time it's for his music.

After years spent driving for Uber in Nashville to make ends meet, the former reality TV star has found unexpected success on the country charts, proving it's never too late for a second act.

"I did give up [on my dream] about 20 years ago, and I regretted that decision," Brennan told Peoplein an interview published Thursday, June 4. "So now I UNgave up. I've been back at it full-time for five years in Nashville, and everything has changed, so I'm relearning the ever-changing music business. There is something in my soul that is very attached to music. I missed it. I missed making it, and there was a void in my life."

Brennan's latest single, "Tell Me That There Ain't a God," has been climbing the Country music charts since its release, reaching No. 10 on the American Country Network chart in March. The song recently broke into the Top 50 on the MusicRow chart.

"I wasn't sure I had the confidence to survive the possible rejections again, but my desire to create and perform music overshadowed those doubts, so here I am again," he told People. "Also, my father passed away seven years ago, and he loved country music and is the reason I learned to love it. So I won't quit, not ever again."

Find the “spangram.”

• The spangram describes the puzzle's theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. It may be two words.
• The spangram highlights in yellow when found.
• An example spangram with corresponding theme words: PEAR, FRUIT, BANANA, APPLE, etc.

Need a hint?

• Find non-theme words to get hints.
• For every three non-theme words you find, you earn a hint.
• Hints show the letters of a theme word. If there is already an active hint on the board, a hint will show that word's letter order.
